Great atmosphere, love the appetizer boards and selections. Amazing hamburgers. Good selections of cheeses and beers

The absolute best spot in Philly by far. Great service, food, drinks and atmosphere. You are missing out if you do not stop by for a whole meal of food. The nicest owners in the world. Can't wait to go back.

I really enjoyed it. it has really nice food and its reasonably priced. The drinks where very good as well. I don't know how I feel about dinner dinner but really did like it.

Saturday brunch al fresco. Service was pleasant and food was good. Trendy and busy but quaint. But the bacon was the best cooked just right!

A cozy place with plenty of street parking. Large beautiful windows that look out over the nice Philadelphia neighborhood. Another wonderful place by Tom and Peggy. I cannot say enough about the brewed in house beer let alone how good the food is. Staff is VERY friendly and attentive. It is worth your best effort to visit Bar Hygge and....... Stay Cozy, Gus

This place offers a nice array of options for eating and drinking - some original beers made on the site, and a good variety of wine and beer from elsewhere - and some finger food options that are delightful, or some serious dinners if you prefer, with rotating offerings by the season. It draws families, yuppies, old timers, and is open from 4 PM to 12:30 AM daily. No TV sets. This is not a sports bar. Kids menu starts at 4, full menu starts at 5.

We stopped in for a drink and some apps, sat at the bar. Really cool place, cozy vibe. Bartender was very attentive and helpful. Ordered the old fashion, was fantastic. My husband ordered a martini that was good but was literally two sips. It was a normal sized martini glass and only half full... for twelve bucks it was ridiculous. We ordered a second one thinking the first was a joke or a mistake but it arrived as the same half pour. I know it's a beer place but c'mon. Fried green tomatoes were delicious and the fries were super crispy and cooked to perfection.

I wanted to like this place because my discerning son recommended it and I love Denmark. It's a nicely designed place and very pleasant surroundings, but not the food. Had brunch the other day with family. No one particularly loved their dishes - my egg sandwich was overly creamy although the everything muffin was tasty. Pancakes were not tasty - I'm not sure I've ever said that before. Coffee was a little stale/old and water was warm. The beer menu looked intriguing so I'll be back to try that out, but probably go somewhere else for brunch - with so many choices in downtown Philly,

The interior of this place is just so cozy and inviting. The happy hour is good. The food is good and the in house craft beer selection is very good. The cocktails are well crafted and flavorful.

What an incredible experience. The beer is adventurous and amazing. There is a large variety of styles that should suit most palates. The boards are tapas style servings of flavorful eats. You have to try the grilled corn (we ordered a second round). Incredible service from the staff and the owners. Stu is proud of the beer and experience bar hygge has created, and it shows! We even got a quick tour of the brewing operation and tasting of the many beers. Philly is lucky to have places and people like this.

The atmosphere is relaxed, cozy and trendy all at the same time. Our waiter Daniel was pleasant and efficient while not being intrusive on our conversation. That's a high-five feat ! The food, ahhh, the food was sooooo good. Loved it. Everything we ordered was mouth watering delicious. It was served hot, well seasoned and in good sized portions.

We had a fabulous brunch at Bar Hygge. Brunch menu was mostly breakfast dishes and a burger option. Everything was delicious. Service was excellent. Atmosphere was cozy and eclectic. Would definitely return to try the lunch or dinner menu.

This cozy (yes, it's in the name) bar-restaurant is in a charming area of Fairmount. We were warmly greeted upon arrival and seated in a comfy side room with plush chairs and sofas. Like being in a living room. We thoroughly enjoyed our beers and dinner. The highlights? The service is stellar, the beers are great (especially the Phoebe), the fries are perfect and the vibe is great. Menu has lots of vegetarian-friendly items. Recommend.

My friend and I did a mural arts bike tour from Fairmount Bicycles. Our tour guide (Rebecca) recommended Bar Hygge when I asked about a local beer garden. She said if you want good beer and good food try Bar Hygge. She was right! I had their IPA and really liked it. We really enjoyed the brussel sprouts and chicken bites too. Perfect sized, yummy $2 small dessert to boot!

From the ambiance of the restaurant to the cocktails and charcuterie boards, everything was great! They brew their own beer which makes them very unique. Plan to go back here many more times

Found this spot looking for the location of Techne Microbrewery. Same place! Wonderful small plates easily shared tapas-style, great hamburger and excellent beer-- perhaps the best microbrew in Philly. The ambiance is hard to describe: comfortable over-stuffed chairs and couches, tables of various styles, and corners of the restaurant to meet any mood. Wide windows open onto the street. In a neighborhood that has become quite the hipster spot. Like all of Philadelphia, hard to find a place to park but easy to get to by public transit, walking from Center City or Uber. Not to be missed!

I decided to try it out after reading good reviews/recommendations on beers sites for Philadelphia. It opens early-ish (10:30am) for Saturday brunch, and has beers available. It seems to cater just its own brews; I tried a couple which were OK, nothing wrong with them, although not outstanding. The brunch offerings are good value and good quality. Service was very good. My only slight niggle might be they do not offer beer tasting flights (a little odd as they focus on their own brews). The ambience is good; no TV screens, background music that is not too loud. I would definitely visit again if in the area.

In no particular order: The setting is very well designed and unique. The food is amazing. We tried many different items from starters through dessert, and every one was perfection. We are still talking about the homemade "tastykake" ! The bar manager is very knowledgeable and creative. It is obvious throughout that the owner knows his business. We cannot wait to return.

We were in town for a conference and we stayed at an AirBnB a few blocks away. We stopped in near the end of the night after being on the road all day and the staff was friendly and the beers were nice. The kitchen was closed so I can't share anything about the food.

We stopped in for a drink and appetizers after visiting some sights. I had a "Winter Spice" gin and tonic that was made with some sort of blood orange flavoring and it was excellent. The beer drinkers liked their choices, too. We had a plate of spicy carrots and another hot appetizer and they were delicious. Would plan to go back for a full meal next time we're in Philly.

Great beer, great food, great space, great service! We stopped for a quick dinner before a concert. We got stuffed on an assortment of awesome appetizers plus great bill, and enjoyed getting a bill for under $50. Love Bar Hygge!

Surprisingly great place to eat early with kids in tow. Owners are particularly aware of the neighborhood's high child content, and designed the restaurant and brewery to accommodate all family types. I felt at ease ordering heavy apps and the fantastic daily cocktail here after nursing my daughter. Special nod for very cool vintage decor. Order the full-give selection "board" for a nice light meal for two.

This brewery in my hood was viewed as a great spot initially, but after going there and wanting to love it, I couldn't even find myself liking it. The beers are small in volume but big in price, $6.50 for a 13oz beer that is really a 10oz beer, thanks to a poor pour from the bartender. I like beer and if it's expensive, I want some quantity. Also, I like IPA's and this place was out of IPA's - say what?? Also, my friend ordered a cider and got one but upon his next request for the same - they ran out. The food is quite expensive as well - $17 for a burger that was very average at best, along with other over priced food things. The place is loud and I guess with so many other options in the hood, why would I go back to a overpriced poor pour of a brewery. I live so close and wanted to like it but left not wanting to go back. Disappointed for sure........

Outstanding brunch today, food delicious and fresh, service outstanding, so much fun and can’t wait to go back! Avocado toast was perfect, burger was insanely yummy that my husband ordered, eggs Benedict looked super. Oh… the rose… superb!

We went here with my brother in law and sister in law. They used to live right above it and now live a few blocks away so they are regulars. The menu had a bit of everything. The lavender cocktail with the coriander spiced rim was absolutely delicious. We split a bunch of things for the table. The pickled patty pan squash and fennel was weird but good weird. Bread was awesome, fries were thick cut but crispy and not overly salted. The Manchurian cauliflower was tasty but would have been better had they been battered then fried. The chicken bites appetizer with fried pickles, peppers and 2 aiolis were some of the best chicken I've ever had. If you're in the area stop by, especially during happy hour.

On a recent visit to this majestic city I had the pleasure of a cool evening walk up Fairmont, with its array of cozy restaurants that have sprouted up on either side of the Penitentiary. Bar Hygge nailed it on our night out. From the window side table for great people watching to the industrial steam punk fixtures and old brick walls, it was as cozy and inviting as it was trendy. This is a true hometown gastro brewpub paying homage to classic Danish socializing. We shared a "board" choosing some local sheep and goat cheeses, each attributed to its nearby farm of origin and followed that with a flavorful skirt steak with cauliflower. Our server was on point with beer suggestions and menu walk thru. A great addition to a city that loves food. About $80 with drinks and worth it

We ate here before a concert at Union Transfer recently. I was excited to go to Bar Hygge as we have danish family and love the 'hygge'. The house made beers and on tap wine certainly were terrific as were the staff. I would have appreciated some Danish options on the menu (open face sandwiches come to mind!), but instead the menu only offered standard tap room staples. It would be terrific if Bar Hygge offered some Danish food options, we'd come back for that, most definitely.

Been there twice. On a weekday afternoon when the kitchen was on the bar menu. My wife and I each had a super burger and some of their own beer. We went back again on a Saturday just after noon. They do a great ala carte brunch on Saturday and Sunday. There were three of us, and we had a great meal again. Very friendly staff, super food, craft beer, and a fair price. Keep it going!

We really had a great dinner here. Their boards are the way to go with 3-4 items such as the charred octopus whic we loved. Sharing a few things and splitting the burger as well we had a little room left for dessert. . Our server was very helpful and knew everything on the menu. Dessert was superb as well. Good selection of craft beers and wine helped wash everything down.

Really impressed. Went on a Saturday, mid afternoon for drinks and an early dinner with my wife and a friend. Lovely vibe, very cool and chill. The beers, all brewed on premises, were all excellent. Different sizes, no complaints at all from us. Service was friendly and attentive, and the menu switched up mid visit. There was a limited almost snack menu between lunch service and dinner starting. So we started with the hooked up frites, which were absolutely tremendous. Fries were yummy, smothered in house made smoked brisket, home made whiz, and thin onion rings. Really original, really different. As we snacked, the dinner service began at 4:30pm and we ordered again. We had one of the boards, a delicious combo where we got to choose the crispy brussels, some delicious cheese and really yummy pork rillettes. The breads were great as well. They were a new addition to the menu and I'm glad we snagged them. Both my wife and I ordered the pan seared skirt steak under the recommendation of our server - really well prepped and delicious. The entrees took a little while, and our server was super sweet and brought us over some more bread and another order of the brussels and cheeses because she felt bad. Very unnecessary but a lovely touch. We enjoyed everything immensely, and will absolutely be back. Awesome new spot.

Never have I been to a place where you go in at 8:30 pm for drinks, and they allow you to take one of their tables outside to do so. Major points for that. The lavender tea seasonal punch was great, but the real star was the pineapple upside down cake... I’m still salivating thinking of that dessert because it was just like my grandma used to make. Can’t wait to go back to this gem!

Evening drinks with a few quick bites. The service was excellent and friendly. Busy for a Tuesday night with a lot of people having fun. Felt a lot like a tapas bar.

This place is very good for a lot of reasons. Starting with the name Hygge which is a Scandinavian term that means taking the time to enjoy life's simplistic pleasures like nature, food, spending time with loved ones, etc. The decor has a Scandinavian feel as well - lots of wood, but with a clean cut look. This restaurant is new age American though with very unique dishes like reuben style tongue. I didn't try it, but my husband said it was very good. This was part of the Hygge boards where you can choose one, three, or five items. We also got the braised pork belly I believe with a bourbon or maple glaze, and a apple tart stuffed with cheese and nuts. The owner was even walking around to make sure that everyone was being taken care of. We had a short conversation with him - very nice man dedicated to the success of his establishment. We definitely will be returning for Sunday brunch which also looks amazing!

It's a restaurant with a tame brewery in house rather than a brewery with food. But very decent beer, and a very good bar menu.

Stop in to check out the place after hearing out it from others. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The 3 different micro brews we tried were wonderful. we also had an appetizer with local blue cheese and their homemade bread, SO delicious. Next time we'll stay longer and have more.

I had read that this was one of the better beer establishments in Philly and was not disappointed on that account-- they had a wide selection of styles of house brews and a small assortment of guest brews. If you want 100 options from all local breweries this is not the place. If you want something you may not get elsewhere read on. Food menu was smaller but very good options and something for all tastes. You can get sandwich, entrees or a Danish version of tapas. Service was spectacular and the environment was cozy. Hygge is Danish for Comfort. Mission accomplished. To top it off the prices all reasonable. Wow.

Huge disappointment... Although beer and service were good, a couple of big plastic pieces in the patty of my burger ruined the dinner. I will stick to drinks next time...

This has become our go to spot for brunch. You can't go wrong here! The menu is extremely tasty and the Danish Bloody Mary is on point whether or not you are suffering from a hang over due to a night of partying 😉

Really great brunch. The staff were incredibly nice and helpful. The manual had several delicious dishes. Light and clean.

Very nice early evening spent here. A nice selection of beers and an eclectic bunch of appetizers. I enjoyed everything. Pleasant atmosphere as well. Only challenge was parking!

Great place, wide selection of good beer and nice cocktails. The best “hygge” part is getting a tray with several small dishes. All the food was really great. Outdoor seating and a number of little huts on the sidewalk that fits a group.

Menu offers were enough to it seems the chef had the time to considerate each menu items before he/she sent to the customers. As a results, our food and presentation was great. Everybody in our party loved the food. Great beer selection; some of the items were brewed there.Service was top notch. Facility was very cool. Cool customers. We liked it a lot. We’ll planning to go there next week.

We come here every single week maybe even twice to eat and it's absolutely amazing this is the first time we had breakfast and we have been looking for a good breakfast place and we found one! I personally do not like breakfast food but I love this!! Overall if you are passing by I would definitely drop in

Came for brunch, liked the sofas. Very limited vegetarian options - the only non-sweet option ($11 blueberry cornbread with donut glaze is a meal?! even kale/sweet potato salad with honey vinaigrette is too much sugar for me in the morning) - was a curry chickpea and spinach salad. The fried chickpeas were a bundle of salt and I couldn't stop coughing. The waiter tasted and agreed the batch was entirely too salty - yet brought back a plain salad, with the same chickpeas on the side, suggesting I add them when I wanted a 'pop of salt.' I ate the salad and left the chickpeas - essentially paying $11 for an overpriced medium spinach salad. As a vegetarian, protein in a meal is important, and I was surprised at their "remedy," and that they still charged full price. Can't say I'll be coming again, nor will I recommend this place to others.

We walked into Bar Hygge on a rainy Wednesday and it was packed. Fortunately, we got the last table so our night turned out to be a very good one. They don’t have a big menu but they do have some very interesting options, like the Shrimp “Po Boy” Sandwich and Grilled Cheese with Brie and Broccoli Rabe, and the Gin Infused Tomato Soup. For dessert we had the small, but delicious Pineapple Upside Down cake. We also had some very good beer and wine. Service was great too.
Terrific new micro brewery and gastro-pub
Changing menu keeps this place interesting and adventurous. Great beers made on site, and other choices too; choice of snacks or meals to fit your budget and appetite. Just opened, but getting a good turnout and measuring up well!
