GREAT food and service

By Laura |

I attended a special event at Barbuzzo in September. Their special event space is actually on the second floor of the restaurant. OMG, what a spread. Everything the staff was serving was amazing. Ginormous meatballs, arancini, bacon wrapped dates, etc. I didn't make it to the charcuterie area (it wasn't just a board) until late in the night, but I'm so glad I did. Quite possibly, the best charcuterie I've ever had. For the night, I stuck with the blood orange margarita. It was pre-made for efficiency, I assume. But still very good!

A nice dinner while in the city for a getaway before Christmas.

By Daniel B |

Went out for an early dinner with my wife; didn't have a reservation but we were seated right away. Wife ordered a Philly Negroni (which she loved) while I stayed with the IPA selection they carried. We started with the Arancini, our second course was the Stuffed Meatballs, and we finished off with a pizza to share. Everything was prepared excellently and our server brought it to us hot and tasty. Very nice atmosphere and it seemed like the staff was having a good night at work too. Would recommend this restaurant if the menu is what you are hungry for; server we had at the Reading Terminal Market for breakfast recommended this restaurant over El Vez when we told her what we were looking for and I'm glad she did!

possibly best pizza in town

By PeachtreeCorners2013 |

We enjoyed dinner here. There is a gastro pub feel here, nice contemporay and informal. we ate inside but the previous day had many diners out front. Busy place with electricity. Even though the menu has many different choices, the pizza was the highlight. Crust was thin crispy--overall the pizza was wonderful.

Overated

By pearlmiriam |

Went for the marrow bones. They were a real disappointment. Long and skinny with hardly and marrow. Was very noisy. Slow service. Not great food.

PERFECT

By Yunah K |

best brussel sprouts salad & truffled egg pizza - truly incredible flavors. their outdoor tables have a great atmo- but i hope their heat lamps keep them going through the winter.

Great restaurant with fresh food

By Bissy2002 |

Sat outside and had a tasty salad with watermelon and feta. My husband and our friend had the hanger steak, delish. Friendly staff! Located on busy downtown street but we sat outside and it felt really cozy. Prices are absolutely fair.

Compact space, too crowded for comfort !

By Pradeep Kaushal |

We had gone for dinner. After a long wait, the space offered was very cramped. Except Pizza , the food choices were not impressive. Couldn't enjoy the evening.

Still dreaming about the mushroom toast

Still dreaming about the mushroom toast. Small restaurant with low lighting and trendy vibe. Food was fun to share. Absolutely Delicious. We waited an hour for a table and would d

Great food! A small place

By Kelvin C |

I went there for lunch with a colleague. It is a hole-in-the-wall kind of restaurant, so the seats are a bit tight, and a bit noisy. But the food is wonderful with a balanced tasted. I had the grill chicken breast, and it was done perfectly. They are also very accommodating when it comes to food allergy/dietary restrictions. The menu is not that extensive, but you will find a nice bite.

Great food and fun drinks

By Claire G |

A friend chose Barbuzzo for our lunch date and I am SO glad she did. It was really lovely, the food was amazing - unusual options (pizza with fingerling potatoes - yaaasss) and the cocktails were varied and not overpriced. It was a beautiful day, so we sat outside, the service was really good even though we were outside of the main restaurant. For a fun lunch / dinner date I would totally recommend Barbuzzo and I look forward to going back when I am next in Philly.

Good, but expensive

By grouse2017 |

The food was great, but expensive. The restaurant tables are crowded together so you feel like you are part of many other conversations. Even with all of that, we enjoyed ourselves.

Cosy restaurant with good food

By TravelChicDr |

We went there for dinner and had a seat inside. It was rather dark inside but not disturbing. The staff was kind and friendly. We could watch them cooking behind the bar which was interesting and enjoyable. The food was good; especially the pizza and the paella. I liked the place and the food very much; strongly recommend

100% Avoidable Bad Experience

By Ed B |

Had dinner with a friend several weeks ago. We had a rather unfortunate and 100% avoidable bad experience concerning the table directly next to us. I asked our waitress for some help and she said there was nothing she could do. I asked the hostess and she said there was nothing she could do. Neither offered to bring out the manager. I wrote an email the next day (Dec 6) explaining what had happened but got neither acknowledgment nor response. I reached out to both owners (Valerie Safran and Marcy Turney) via their social media but didn't get any response from them, either. I resent my email to the restaurant on Dec 23 but still no response, no acknowledgment, nothing. I resent a third time this morning. The only possible conclusion you might draw from this is that apparently when you have a popular restaurant in a popular part of the city, you don't have to give a crap about customer feedback or someone relaying an unfortunate and 100% AVOIDABLE bad experience at one of your restaurants.

Wonderful Dinner

By Susan D |

Had a delightful dinner on our recent visit to Philly. We shared several dishes that we'd rate in the excellent category. They include the sheeps milk ricotta, the beet salad and the pan seared gnocchi. And, of course, the salted caramel budino was yummy. Restaurant can be busy and noisy but service was excellent in spite of the crowd.

Late Night

By fiamma11 |

Two years since our last visit, this time we had dinner at Barbuzzo after the opera, so it was late night offerings. The food was as good as I remembered, so happy to have another budino (divine), the wait staff was very friendly and helpful. It was a bit noisy for my ears, but you can be certain, I will return.

Amazing

By Matthew H |

Such a great place! Had the mezze platter for lunch, and everything on it was amazing. Variety was nice as well. Will likely return next time I'm in the city.

Happening spot with good food and drink

By Jade G |

This place was packed at 7pm on a Thursday so right from the start it had great vibe. We were seated in the back and it was a little hot because of the pizza oven, but that just made the Rose sangria extra refreshing. We ordered a couple of pizzas (margarita and the mortadella & potato which was delicious) and the branzino (my daughter was in love with this dish). The only bad part of our night was our waitress was not very friendly or helpful. We have one very picky eater and she was pretty annoyed at his questions/requests which honestly were not that difficult. Thankfully everyone else was very nice. All in all I would go back and request a table in the front.

Excellent food but very busy

By MadCat42 |

It is good. Barbuzzo was not as packed as the other restaurants but it would not stay they way long. We managed to seat at the chefs table. We had the Brussel sprouts, octopus and braised rib. The Brussel sprouts we good although my wife prefers bacon. The octopus and braided ribs were excellent. The octopus was not rubbery and had a nice olive based accompany. The braised ribs were tender and delicious. It was a good meal especially in light f not having a reservation. In the future, I would get a reservation.

Disappointed this time

By SanD1234567 |

Had eaten here before long time back (3 years ago), so wanted to come back while in Philly - sadly didn't measure up. Margherita pizza was awesome (10/10) But the grilled octopus (in salad base) tasted like chicken (5/10). Worst culprit of evening was the dessert 'tiramisu' which was heavy and mashed up (no layering), deserving a poor (3/10) rating.

Fabulous

By Elena k |

Not that Barbuzzo needs another gushing review, but I just can't help it. Every single thing we had, from appetizers to desserts, was incredibly well presented, and tasted amazing. By far the best restaurant I visited in the last few months.

Love the Small Plates

By barfoot164 |

Great place that you really want to make sure you have a reservation. We sat at the counter to watch all the chefs prepare some great dishes. If you like Mediterranean small plates....your going to love this spot. And its so close to all the fun of center city....we went there before a Kimmel Center performance....a relatively short walk.

A great find

By William W |

In town for one night we found this place close to our hotel based on convenience and previous ratings. Cozy, jammed and great vibe characterize Barbuzzo. We've already told our Virginia traveling friends about Barbuzzo and we just left a couple hours ago. Service was spot on, ie informed, professional, attentive but not overly so. Food was exceptional. Try the beet and kale salad - truly outstanding. Do yourself a favor and try Barbuzzo when in Philadelphia next.

Great Food, Tiny Space

By the petal p |

First Visit Review: We only happened upon this restaurant because we wanted something close to the Academy of Music. We read the menu and liked what we saw. Yes, the menu is limited but we liked the variety of it. There are offerings for vegan/vegetarians which is important for my friend. I had the soup-of-the-day which was a tomato based vegetable soup--it was full of flavor with not too well-done or soggy veggies. It came with a nice bread. My friend had the veggie burgers which came loaded with slaw atop it and a side of chips. I had the homemade ricotta with fig reduction. The dipping bread was grilled baguette slices, perfectly done. This meal was fabulous. The only down side is that it is extremely small inside and since it is wintertime, it made for difficult navigation for xmas shopping bags and coats/hats/scarves. I don’t mind sitting close to other diners, but this was beyond close--it’s tiny. I must say, however, we both enjoyed the food immensely, and I commend the waiters for navigating such a small space.

Incredible

By Laura B |

This place is incredible. We come back to eat here time and time again. The uovo pizza, beet salad and budino are our staple, but the seasonal menu keeps us coming back for more. More importantly the waitstaff are amazing. Shane was our waiter tonight and he was the whole package, helpful, thoughtful, attentive and hilarious. If you go, order a lot of food, it’s all amazing, and ask for it to be served by Shane, you won’t be disappointed.

Great but noisy

By Robert R |

Really great appetizers and mains and a strong cocktail and wine menu. Typical of Philly when you try to put a restaurant in a small space there's going to be a lot of noise and conversations were not easy or private. Nice to see an outside option as the weather warms but be prepared if you sit inside. The menu states there are small plates but some of them, such as their version of paella, is a meal unto itself. Great food overall and would return

Hip tapas in downtown Philly

By daigdude |

On a rainy Monday evening, the place was packed. Creative menu, served family style, our party of three has a fun dinner. Among our taps we ordered the risotto balls, trout, Oyster mushrooms,... forgot the rest - all very good though. Great friendly service to boot!

Burnt pizza.

By fromkc10 |

Pizza was charred and when we told the server she said that is it was supposed to be this burnt. Wow. Look at the picture.

Big treasure in a small place.

By cicnavi |

Space is tight, but very much worth it. Tried a couple appetizers and a few plates. All delicious. Didn't get a chance to try the pizza, but they looked the part.

Great food, excellent atmosphere

By Jeremy V |

We came here for a late dinner after a musical at the Walnut street theatre. The pizzas were excellent and we also really enjoyed a pasta dish and the arancini. We found the desserts to be amazing, particularly the tiramisu but also the salted caramel budino. Nice intimate yet vibrant atmosphere as well.

Fantastic

By chud605 |

Place was crowded. Sat at the bar which was a concern, but the bartender, Dominic took care of it all while banging out drinks for the whole restaurant. Pizza was fantastic and we had two salads. Definitely a place to return to.

Very tasty tapas style dining

By aorw85 |

Excellent Mediterranean and Italian tapas. Rather tight accommodations and only one restroom, but the food and cocktails were worth any minor inconvenience. A little pricey, but on par with the neighborhood and quality!

Nice little restaurant

By carlos_manuelsr |

Place is small with a warm ambience and decoration. Staff is very kind. Service on the other hand was good but sometimes they kind of forgot us. We felt a little ignored. Food was tasty. Very thin and delicious pizza.

A fun time

By Nikos T |

Food is very good. If the weather is nice (was when we were there) you can sit outside, and enjoy the atmosphere even more.

Most incredible combinations of flavors!

By creativecrew |

Truly the best meal I remember! Colleagues were very impressed with the unusual ingredients and blurts of flavors! Meals are meant to be shared. Our server, Lauren, had fantastic recommendations on several pizzas, a beef and chicken entree and the Brussels Sprouts salad.

Almost perfect !

By Tony C |

We decided to stop by this restaurant based on previous reviews. We made a good choice ….it was so good. Pizza, Salad, Pasta and a Tiramisu to finish; everything was delicious. I recommend and will return if I come again to Philadelphia.

Food was awesome

By mitchrappsdaughter |

Went here with my parents and boyfriend and luckily everyone approved (they're hard to please). The food was delicious, the atmosphere was dark and a bit noisy, but that's to be expected on a Saturday night. Will definitely go back again!

Barbuzzo - Bountiful 13th Street Bistro

By Captkerk |

We love wandering along Philadelphia's 13th street with its charming boutique shops and street chic bars and restaurants. Barbuzzo has that warm and inviting look that draws you in and makes you wish you lived next door so you could be a regular. We arrived for an early dinner on Superbowl Sunday as we had plans to watch the game. I had just opened but was filling up fast so our timing was right. If you plan to visit at normal dinner hours a reservation is recommended. It's easy to feel like you have been transported to a quaint town in Italy upon entering with it's tasteful minimalistic design. Tables are pine, the decor distinctly rustic and firewood is neatly stacked in the rear wall to fuel the wood fired oven. Pizza's coming straight out onto tables gave it a casual dining family feel. We opted for more creative fare as they have designed the restaurant to provide an experience - both social and foody in nature - by developing a creative and unique menu that definitely delivers. We started with two old fashioned cocktails and some olives. The drinks were crafted with just the right balance between rye, maraschino cherries, and peychaud's bitters. The olives were plentiful but a tiny bit disappointing as the fresh green olives did not deliver the crispness expected. Next up was steak tartare and shaved salad. Both were amazing and we got the sense of a chef with a gift of getting the best from a simple formula of fresh ingredients and subtle flavors that stand on their own. From there we ordered a few glasses of Gavi, meatballs, octopus, and the fideua. Again, each was superbly balanced on the palate with the Fideua standing out as a triumph in culinary genius with its mussels, shrimp, chorizo, braised pork, sofrito and roasted shrimp on fine noodles instead of rice. Every ingredient was additive, nothing was overpowering and every mouthful was pure bliss.

An amazing meal!

By tmarmar6 |

We are so happy to have stumbled upon Barbuzzo when looking for a late night dinner. The Fiore di Zucca and Salsiccia pizzas were out of this world. Great cocktail list and fantastic service. We had a small outdoor table that was perfect.

Order the Braised Short Rib

By see_snow_34 |

Aside from the fact that I was sitting on an uneven table (due to bad sidewalks) and literally an arms length from a parked car, the Braised Short Rib was fabulous!!! The polenta was creamy and the walnuts really added a nice crunchy texture!! It was well worth sitting crooked!!!

Simply a brilliant place with amazing food

By Matty May |

Went here after walking around trying to pick a restaurant and I can honestly say that this is one of my favourite ever restaurants. I sat, first time, at the bar by the kitchen, so we were able to watch the chefs cook the various options which was great fun! When our food arrived, it didn't last long as everyone was delicious! The squid was extraordinary and the brussel sprouts were on point and really flavoursome, the pizza was one of the best I've tried.....everything was some of the best I've tried being truthful!! The choice of beers was really good and we had a great time just relaxing, escaping lifes stresses, eating great food and drinking a couple of beers! The staff are also brilliant, polite, helpful, friendly and also very knowledgeable. I cannot recommend you go here enough! I'm just hoping you'll be in London one day!

Impressive restaurant & bar!

By Z-FamilySD |

This is another one of Philadelphia’s hidden gems! Food and service are impressive. Everything is really fresh and delicious. It has an open kitchen and bar on the left side of the restaurant and table seating on the right. They offer a full bar with a super talented bartender. Also an excellent selection of interesting wines! Would not recommend for young children though. This restaurant-bar is definitely worth a visit!

Great restaurant

By TK-Princeton |

The food is in smaller portions and meant to be shared. Everything was delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Barbuzzo

By Swalme |

The food was great. We had the meatballs and the Fideua, salted caramel budino with the espresso. I didn’t care for the cocktails, next time I would stick with the wine. Also, the waiter was not friendly or engaging. Being the only African Americans at the restaurant on 9/14 @ 5:00pm I didn’t get that warm and welcoming feeling that so many other patrons around me seem to experience. Maybe it was the waiters disposition or something else.

Bravi, davvero una bella sorpresa!

By SimoO. |

After eight days of American cuisine, we came across this restaurant located a few meters from our hotel and entered with the resigned spirit of those preparing to eat "Mediterranean cuisine" on the other side of the ocean. Seismo were pleasantly denied: salad with tomatoes and delicious stracciatella, and also excellent pizza Calabrese. Also, great attention to the customer (fresh water as soon as you arrive, bottle always full on the table, fast and courteous service) and average bill. Andateci con piacere!

So Very Good

By elandja |

This place specializes in Mediterranean/Italian and great cocktails. The place is small so a reservation would be ideal --we were able to get five at the bar. We started with cocktails which were excellent. We shared salads, tortellini and pizzas and then the most amazing dessert the caramel budino -- an incredible little mini trifle like concoction with dark chocolate crust, vanilla bean custard and salted caramel -- it alone is worth the trip.

Valentines Day Dinner Upstairs

By francis v |

We ended up in town on business Valentine’s Day without a reservation but was able to find a spot at Barbuzzo on Opentable. The food tasted great. Cocktails were average to below average. My overall impression of the place was that it’s a mismatch of things for example, Barbuzzo is pricy and the food is good so you get what you pay for there, but then the cocktails are blah and music is loud and most of the tables upstairs are shared communal style tables. Even if it’s Valentine’s Day I don’t want to pay 65/head plus drinks and tip to sit at the community table. Head scratcher. Service was very good though.

Very tasty food in lively atmosphere

By CVTravelers |

My wife and I made a reservation and we were glad we did as the restaurant was packed. The restaurant and bar are in a tight physical space and as a result the restaurant is very loud. It is difficult to hold a conversation due to the noise level. The food and cocktails were really excellent. We enjoyed sharing three plates (arancini, roasted carrots and gnocchi) and found all the flavors to be unique and well seasoned. We noted other nearby diners doing essentially the same thing - - sharing two or three plates. The plates are served as the food comes out of the kitchen so there is no particular order or timing - - free flow kitchen is what I believe they call it. We would happily return and assuming you are OK with the noise level, we would recommend you dine there as well.

Very good restaurant! The portions are small (specially for the pasta) but absolutely tasty!!!! Very good taste My daughter And husband got the pizza which was good and tasty as well

Innovative, delicious food

By Brian C |

We read Yelp reviews to find this (sorry, TripAdvisor) and were not disappointed. We were in town for just a night and loved everything about Barbuzzo. Our server was a handsome bodybuilder in shorts, starting the evening off right. Our drinks were good and speedily delivered (it helps that the place is small enough that everywhere is just a few steps from the bar) and the ambience was nice (rough wood, waterfall marble countertops, etc). The food was also terrific. We started with the whipped ricotta with fig vinegar and spices - delicious! We then had the Spanish octopus (better even than in Spain!) with it's softly cooked flesh and tasty greens. The melon salad with prosciutto was unusual due to the basil, mint, and rocket greens but in a good way. The last plate was trufoli pasta with pork ragut and broccoli rabe. The last was controversial since my husband instantly disliked it but I thought it was unusual and savory. We finished with the caramel sea salt budino which was amazing. For four plates, four cocktails, dessert, and a 20% tip we walked out paying $175 - not bad! In all, it was a terrific meal and we would recommend it highly to anyone.

Inconsiderate management, take your business elsewhere

By southbound123 |

Most restaurant experiences are good to great. Unfortunately, about once a year I have a really bad one. We had a 7:15 reservation on Friday night. Walking to the restaurant up Sansom St we encountered a street closed for construction. We made the long detour around to the restaurant. As the time reached 7:30 I called to let them know of the situation and that we would there shortly. Pat Moran, the manager, said that since it was now 15 minutes past the reservation time, he couldn’t hold the table any longer. I told him I would run to the restaurant. Arriving one minute later I found him giving away my table. He stuck to his “policy” in spite of my phone call. He offered no apology, and no offer to seat us next. In fact, he really just wanted us to leave. I asked to speak to the owner. Pat took my name and phone number. Five days later I still haven’t heard from her. Who knows if he even gave her my message.

Delicious food

By Blovesfood |

We made a reservation about a week in advance. The service was fabulous, table was ready when we arrived, and the food was fabulous! We had the gnocchi, stuffed meatballs, and the burino dessert. All were fabulous! One critique- the evening time is dark in the restaurant and the menu is not a faint font that requires phone flashlight to read. Restaurant management might consider making the food menu font bold like the drink menu and increase the font so it's readable for all ages and visual abilities.

Come for the Budino Jar, come again for the Meatballs!

By Brads P |

I came here to try the Budino Jar which is a magical dessert with caramel, vanilla bean, sea salt, dark chocolate, cream, and I think crack.... We also had a few mains which were also very delicious. The meat balls in a sweat tart red sauce and then the gnocchi. They also have an impressive selection of craft beer and a huge wine selection, and also craft cocktails. I suggest you sit at the kitchen counter and watch the chefs.

Delicious and fun atmosphere

By Suzanne M |

Cannot go wrong here - food is fantastic. We shared pizza, pasta and whipped ricotta. Cocktails are fun as well. Highly recommend and great before a show.

Molto bene

By ElainaNewYork |

The food here is prepared perfectly. You really need to make numerous trips here to try everything. Really. Monday night, the place was packed. From what I hear it is packed every single day. Make a reservation. The chefs cook right in front of you, so you know it’s fresh, hot and well made. Try the octopus, every pizza, any pasta dish, all the side dishes and all the desserts. I know ! we still have a ways to go to try everything, butwe’re getting there! The budino(salted caramel chocolate w/cream dessert) is a must, so keep a bit of room open for that.

Don’t miss a dish

By Karl F |

We were told to share the small sized plates since they do not always come out of the kitchen at the same time. We put two appetizer orders in & we’re still deciding on entrees. The mussels came & were delicious. The took our entree order. We waited a long time for our next dish, steak tartare, a special appetizer. When we inquired, they had forgotten it & they were now sold out of it. They made good by comping us another dish of our choosing & since the had ruined the mood of our birthday celebration, we asked for the desserts to be comped too. Will give them another try since the dishes were very good.

Cozy Restaurant but Great Food!

By JRM |

Dined here October 9. Very cozy tables (a diner's hair at an adjacent table kept falling over the seat onto the side of our table) but the food is outstanding. The pera pizza is one of the best pizzas I've ever had, and the whipped ricotta, mushroom arancini, and octopus (all common dishes these days at a lot of restaurants) were better than most places. The service was very efficient and professional, and our server gave several solid wine recommendations.

Best food you will find

By John M |

This is one of our favorite restaurants in Philadelphia, or anywhere. Many places design wonderful-sounding menus, but few have cooks good enough to put the chef's creations on the plate so well, so consistently. Congratulations to the first-rate kitchen staff. The room is busy and quite noisy, but don't let that deter you - the food is just so good. We began with roasted marrow bone and smoked trout tartine appetizers. Bone was very good; tartine was spectacular. Reading the dishes components, it might seem like an odd combination, but the flavors, colors and textures marry perfectly. The secret is the cold-smoked trout that is served raw - sashimi-style. The tasty fillets were so moist and tender compared to cooked. The house-made charcuterie was next, and it was amazing. We could not decide which was best - the veal pate, pork rillete, Calabrian sausage, or pancetta. Beautifully presented and all perfectly delicious. Was also tried the beet and goat cheese salad, which was great. They somehow made even the kale in it taste terrific! Grilled octopus and seared bronzino were our final course. Both were gorgeous and tasty. The contrasty, black "burnt bread sauce" on the plate around the fish was really unusual and delectable - not char-smoky so much as earthy and deep, reminiscent of black beans. In all, Barbuzzo is a triumph of restaurant competency. Just what I want when dining out - things I wouldn't think of doing, prepared better than I could possibly do at home. Price was modest considering the quality.

Amazing food, impeccable service

By Marcio Nogs |

The place is quite nice, service was impeccable. The restaurant recommends two choices per person. If you have a small apetite and are considering a pizza, for two persons 2 sides and a pizza can be enough if you're willing to go for desserts. Of everything we had, the Wood Oven Roasted King Oyster Mushrooms and the Pera Pizza were the best. The pizzas are Napolitan style, very well made.

Just ok

By Lainieduke |

Food was good, the amount of steps to get to restaurant was difficult for my 85 year old mother, and myself as I have a bad back. The bartender refused to make my mother a whiskey sour, said he didn't have the ingredients which I find hard to believe

I so wanted to hate this place but could n't

By Rob H |

When the opening words from the waiter are " Its an Italian Tapas restaurant" I so wanted to laugh and discuss, but just said oh ok. Next came the explanation of the draft white wine " it adds a bit of fizz" he explained confidently.. any way what transpired was a great experience.. lovely table in the window, nice wine ( I forewent the draft option and went for traditional bottle dispensed), good meatballs & pasta.. A very nice meal indeed.. well done Barbuzzo . That told me !

Tasty dinner, lively place!

By Murray52 |

Enjoyed yummy peach crostone, nice wine, steelhead trout and tufoli at this packed restaurant on a Monday night.

Good drinks, good food

By ZiggyPG |

Happy hour and dinner at Barbuzzo’s. This is a very cute, but very small place. It is popular and busy. I’d recommend the artichoke & mushroom arancini and maybe a flatbread. Several creative, delicious cocktails.

Excellent

By Rita D |

Packed but worth the wait. Was in town for AISTech Show. Tried Sunday but 3 hr wait. Tonight we sat at the bar by the chefs. They were fascinating to watch. Very good team. We had a cheese board for appetizer. We also had 3 dishes-grilled skirt steak, tufoli & 1 more with squid ink pasta and shrimp (Sorry cannot remember the name) all were awesome. Sorry I didn't order the short ribs after watching them cook it, it too looked awesome. Would recommend a reservation for groups larger than 3

Delicious and Excellent Service!

By smischal |

We ate here for lunch and omgoodness! Small restaurant so I would recommend reserving a table. We ordered the butternut squash soup, salsiccia , and the orecchiette. The pizza was divine and the pasta was awesome!

Cozy Atmosphere, amazing food!

By Aprilmcarroll |

We were looking for a place to eat and suddenly smelled this amazing aroma coming from the outdoor seating area and headed right in. Friday night around 930. We were seated right away. Small restaurant with full bar. Exceptional service. The food came out quickly. The whipped ricotta was delicious! We also had the Margarita Pizza that was perfect!

Amazing Italian in Philadelphia!

By Charlotte W |

Such a nice spot for dinner! It's sharing plates and Pizza, we decided on the meatballs, a pizza and salad to share which was more than enough food for us, delicious and reasonable priced! Great service, would deffo recommend!

Great food

By Autumn M |

I like the outdoor food set up with separate booths. The spicy sausage pizza was outstanding. The gnocchi was delicious. The tiramisu and caramel bondi were so good. The sangria was ok.

Cozy, Hip, Dining Experience

By NoSocDoc |

This small restaurant was crowded, even for an early dinner. The food was very good and watching the kitchen staff working flawlessly in a small open space added to my enjoyment of my meal. I almost returned for a second visit during my stay in Philadelphia.

Nice

By Khondker_Islam |

At last the sun showed his face through the clouds today. For the past few days, the sky was cloudy and shed his tears off and on like a kid. So, I decided to take a stroll to have some fresh air. The streets around the hotel was full of people. Recommendation for this restaurant was made by our hotel receptionist. The restaurant was full of people. It was very noisy. The decoration was nice with dim lights. I just took a seat on the bar without waiting. The bartender was very attentive and helpful to explain the menu and the way the food was prepared. I started with Arancini.. it was good and appetizing to start with. The roasted carrots were little overdone, but were tasty. Loved the grilled octopus... that made my day. I was too full to order the dessert. The service was fast. Love the presentation of the meal. I wish they were little more seasoned. The pice of the food is $$. Love to come back soon.

Pretentious

By Arne1984 |

To be fair: the food is rather good and not too expensive. But: the service was not top-notch — at all, with unfriendly waiting staff and my partner getting his meal 20 minutes after I did (apparently, “that’s the concept” — oh really?!). My advice? Pick another place to have a nice dinner and avoid this pretentious restaurant.

Delish

By Dana S |

A friend recommended this place and it did NOT disappoint! It’s Mediterranean tapas. We tried 6 dishes and loved every one. The server was friendly and knowledgeable. Would definitely come back!

Great pizza

By Alexander G |

Great food and friendly service! We had the fungi pizza and it was delicious. We sat outside which is save and nice to enjoy a warm evening

Very nice

Pasta was very good, the mix in it very interesting, but, really too much oil and just a bit too much cooked, otherwise, it's very good restaurant, nice place.

Great Food Worth Every Penny!

By brothernot |

Everything was absolutely delicious. Not cheap by any means, but great food isn't cheap. We were out for dinner celebrating my sons BD. My daughter in law placed the entire order. We had a couple of pizzas and shared a few appetizers. I can't tell you exactly what we had but nothing was left on any plate. Drinks were perfect! The service was not so good, yet we didn't sweat it. Maybe they were a bit understaffed. Looking forward to go back! Thanks.

maybe a 5 the next time

Went there on a Sunday evening early at 6 and it was packed to the gills. My drink of choice was a 'French Farmer cocktail' which was very delicious...made from Prosecco and French St Germain Elderberry liqueur..... There is nothing served like olives or bread while waiting.... so, to start we had a cheese board with very fine cheeses and seeded flatbread....Then I had the Catalan fideua paella, and it was absolutely delicious. I took half of it home. There are 2 exceptions on the menu of small plates, and this is one of them....it is regular size.......The food was really outstanding and the service very courteous and timely, but the limitations of the space are not what you dream about. We sat at the first table for 2 as you come in, behind the barrier, and there were 4 people right next to us to the right against the wall, and the large window behind me. At times the heat was very unpleasant. While serving the next table, the waiter had to pass us with acrobatic movements which was annoying and disruptive. ... There also had been some difficulty in modifying our reservation prior to coming up from De, which prevented us from bringing another couple at the last moment, which I can understand, but it turned out 2 tables near us remained empty while we were there.....we had been told, if you come at 5 you MUST relinquish the table at 6......doesn't show much business sense to me.....Maybe I can give 5 stars next time.

Defn Worth a Visit

By Michael M |

We were here fir a private party in the second floor so I can’t tell you about the full menu. But if what we had was representative you will not be disappointed. We shared a range of starters all of which were excellent. For a main I had the rigatoni. It was very well done. Hearty. Substantial like real Northern Italian cuisine. Oh and save room for dessert. They are killer. . .

Great Food and atmosphere

By dewitteseep |

We had a lovely meal - everything we had we shared so that we could taste as much on the menu as possible all divine. My only comment would be that although the service was good it was quite fast and could have been slower in order to make a longer meal. But really had no complaints.

Great Italian experience

Great eating experience with authentic Italian food and a good menu selection. The service was prompt and knowledgeable about menus.

Superb wedding venue

Flew in from the UK to attend the wedding day and celebrations of my girlfriends daughter and her fiancée The whole day was orchestrated by the delightful Jess and her staff, the food, bar service and every other request was meticulous Congratulations to Kayla and Dave My thanks to all at Barbuzzo for a great day

Barbuzzo is always delicious so I was extremely disappointed when I recently dined there and my butternut squash arancini balls were frozen

By Mark G |

First time here. Enjoyed our evening. Shared plates were good and we tried a bunch of options. The cheese plate was excellent. The stuffed meatballs really hot the spot. We shared a couple other dishes too and everything was excellent. Very loud place the night we went. That was the only real issue. I’ll be going again.

Definitely a keeper

By Lisa B |

Very lively restaurant. Wait staff was very welcoming, if maybe a little overworked. The food and drinks were great. We started with the kale and beet salad, which was a generous bowl and extremely good. We also ordered a whipped ricotta appetizer, which was also very generously sized, with 4 large pieces of thick bread and a large mound of whipped ricotta with the dressing in a well within the ricotta. We also ordered a mixed drink and craft beer, both of which were very good. We finished with the Calabrese pizza, which was also very good, although there was something sweet on it here and there, which I think could have been left off. We'll keep this restaurant in mind, for sure, when we return to Philadelphia.

A wonderful meal

By randallg522 |

I thought this restaurant was excellent. I had mussels in a white bean sauce/stew that was fantastic, and something I would never have thought of. My partner has the seared gnocchi that melted in his mouth. Both he and his cousin had the beet salad, and both said it was the best they'd ever had. I also had the cauliflower pizza (I shared). It too was delicious. It was a real culinary experience and I would definitely go back if I'm ever in Philadelphia again.

The best wood oven Margherita Pizza in Philly!!

By Seth R |

The best wood oven Margherita Pizza, hands down!!! We walked searching for the perfect pizza in Center city and I truly believe the flavor, the freshness and the ambiance doesn’t get better than Barbuzzo Restaurant!!

Best Salted Caramel Dessert

By Nicholas C |

Apparently the best Salted Caramel dessert in town....be amiss not to try it. Starting with pizza, just mushroom and parma ham and it was the goddamned best pizza I think I have ever had. They use a super hot wood over than cooks it in seconds..... As for best salted caramel dessert, WOW...that was Lush with a capital L......heaven on a plate...

Intimate great restaurant

By RCUrb |

Another lively small restaurant were locals frequent for great Italian. Reservations are a must and the food is wonderful. Salads, pizzas, meatballs, and desserts were all fantastic. Nice reasonable selections for bottles of wine, and friendly efficient service make this place a hit. Would love try everything on the menu.

AMAZING.

By Enrique L |

Get the whipped ricotta and a pizza - uovo or campirese are the best. Dip the pizza in the ricotta… thank me later. BEST service - Alex was great. Very cute spot, kind of hidden. Also, a little bit loud so be prepared for that. Dark and nice too. We also ordered the gnocci - they were amazing, a flavor I had not tried before. 10/10.

Divine dining in cozy, intimate space

By The Wanderer |

We had a DELICIOUS dinner at Barbuzzo! We were recommended this restaurant by some of our friends who frequent the Philadelphia area. The food is divine. Reservations are a must. We arrived at 7 PM on a Saturday night for our reservation and the restaurant was in full swing. Patrons were dining out front as well. I was happy to be inside. The decor is intimate with dim lighting and wood/metal details. To drink I tried the French Farmer. It was so delicious I got a second! For an appetizer we had the fava bean arancini and for dinner had the trofie pasta and gnocchi. Their pastas are made in house. Was the fluffiest, lightest gnocchi we ever had. Portions are a bit smaller than you’d expect, but very rich and flavorful. Definitely meant to be savored. The only reason I did not give this restaurant a 5 star rating is because the restaurant is a little bit cramped. Our table was merely a foot away from the one next to us, but it wasn’t much of a bother except to get up to use the restroom. Even our waiter had to shimmy between the chairs carefully to check in on us and take our orders. Overall, the ambiance was lovely and I’d definitely go back!

Unique dinner experience in philly

By SingaporeJD |

We picked this place off Yelp 4.5 stars and it was a great choice. The portions were modest but tasty to hell!!! The bone marrow sausage, the charcuterie board and the spare rib was excellent. The strip steak was divine with some great sauces and accompaniments. The charcuterie board was well put together with delightful pork rillette, aubergine pickle and aundille sausage. Fantastic and the highlight. The tiramisu dessert topped it all

Quintessential

By Jensoid |

This was a quintessential evening of unparalleled noshing and service. The only tiny knock was when we arrived at 5pm on the dot to start our evening, the host asked us if we had a reso. He seemed a bit irritated that we didn't and pointed that we could sit at the bar or in front of the chefs. A smile and "welcome" would be nice, we didn't know or even thought they would take a reservation for two. Anyhow, let's move on shall we? We hopped up to the bar, no surprise there for us, and met our tour guide for the evening Adam. Note to owners, he is a gem to your restaurant, an excellent mixologist and server. His demeanor, even under pressure, made the evening memorable, enjoyable and wanting to go have a beer with him when he wasn't working. Adam, thank you so very much for creating a dining experience we will talk about for years. I asked Adam if he would steer me through the evening's menu, he checked allergies and away we went. Starters: Ricotta (12) and Albacore Tuna Crudo (14). Ricotta: arbequina olive oil, fig condimento, sicilian oregano, sea salt, grilled french country bread. Would order every single time if we lived in Philly and had the pleasure to dine here often. Subtle, velvety and crunchy comes to mind. One of the best appy's I have ever had. Albacore: beautiful presentation, like a work of art actually. It was a simple dish, not much volume to it. Glad we tried, but would probably pass on it in the future. Cocktails: Basil Lemonade (11) and Sanguinello (11). Basil: titos vodka, housemade lemonade, torn basil leaves. Refreshing, tartish and crisp. Sanguinello: vodka, blood orange puree, chambord, lime. Upscale screwdriver on point. Pre-Din Din: Roasted Beet Salad (11). Goat cheese, orange, tuscan kale, pistachio pesto. I love beets, they complete me and remind me of my childhood and Scandinavian roots. This was/is comfort food for me and Barbuzzo delivered in spades. Dinner: Fideua (25) and Heritage Breed Pork Loin (21). Paella: catalan noodle paella, mussels, shrimp, chistorras chorizo, braised pork, sofrito, roasted shrimp noodle, garlic aioli. I'm in a paella mode at the casa. I enjoy making it, it's communal and it has taken me awhile to nail it. This was a personal size, which is perfect since Suzie is shell fish intolerant. For these chefs, a different take was in order. Omitting the Bomba rice for noodle's. It works. There was an abundance of Shrimp and just the right amount of mussel bites. Rich, hearty broth rounded out the dish and the noodles was a tasty twist to the rice. Pork: heirloom bloody butcher polenta, fiero radicchio, royer mountain, garlic scaper salsa verde. What works so well here is having the pork served at the right temp. Which they did without much fuss. Polenta sounds narly, but it certainly isn't. Not grainy, but smooth and worked well as a bed for the pork to lie on and the salsa verde added additional notes of garlic to the dish. Desert: Lemon Olive Oil Gelato (8). Perfect palate cleanser after such a flavor flave bomb of food. Wines: Pinot Grigio, Alois Lageder Alto Adige, 2017 IT (B:62), Glasses of Gruner Veltliner, Von Kise, 2018 AU (G:12), Glasses of Cabernet Sauvignon Saveurs du Temps, 2106 FR (G:12). Adam was also apparently a sommelier. He was able to steer us to the right wines for our dinner. Personally, a $100 bottle of wine to a $20 bottle is lost on me. The spouse drinks red, I drink white. He took this under advisement and served up tastes and before I knew it, I was ordering a Pinot I would never order and Suzie delighted in her Cab. We like to hang out, eat a bit, visit and have a few cocktails and stay awhile. We did just that. At no point did Adam make us feel like we needed to leave. He was our host for the evening. The wait staff which came to pick up their drinks were equally accommodating and friendly. The restaurant is intimate, romantic and extremely busy. The place was full by 5.45pm and apparently they take reso's for two. Skip that. Pull up a stool and visit with Adam or sit with the Chef's bar. They have traditional pizza's, pasta's and salads. Our only wish is they had a location here in Austin, Tx. This visit goes to our top 5 dining experiences we have had. PS, I'm making Paella today, thanks Chef Marcie for the push to do so, Suzie has been craving it since she couldn't have a bite of mine.

Brunch with Girlfriends

By Kerry Ann D |

I went here with some girlfriends for brunch and it was delicious. Everything we got was a good portion and tasted amazing. The atmosphere was neat too.

Good food, but loud

By Speaker77 |

Visited later on a Monday night, and was surprised that the restaurant was packed at 9 PM. They offer a Mediterranean small plate/ shareable menu, along with wood fired pizzas, but it’s not a large menu. Pizza was delicious, and my wife enjoyed her pasta entree. When busy, the seating is somewhat cramped, and it was loud enough to make conversation a bit challenging. Restaurant is part of the Barbuzzo/Lolita/ Jamonera group on 13th Street - while Barbuzzo was good, we preferred our meal at Jamonera. Would go back, but would also consider other restaurants first.

Glad to dine outside but street noise was significant

By Mitchell S |

Was looking forward to the peach and cucumber salad but the peaches were not quite ripe and the cukes had no taste. With better ingredients this could be a great summer salad. Roasted beet salad was above average. The surprise hit was the Pan Seared Gnocchi. Try not to sit near a bussing station. People clearing tables sounded like they were throwing dishes into the plastic bins. It was that loud.

Lucky us

By Ray S |

We did not have reservations but decided to try our luck dropping in. We were seated as a reservation did not show. The drinks menu offers a a variety of temptation, just as the dinner menu does. We shared our entrees-the skirt steak and the gnocchi. Both were delicious. We also shared two desserts-the Budino and the tiramisu. We found the Budino to be light years ahead of the old standard. Highly recommend Barbuzzo for a gastronomic adventure.

American Italian fusion restaurant with excellent food

By Alexander H |

This restaurant is small but has additional rooms for larger groups. We have been there with a large group of people and it was really exceptional! The service was perfect! Drinks at the bar with appetizers: Kind of sushi on bread with a wide variety of beers and wine. The main course was consisting of some plates to share, American Italiean fusion style. Just excellent what was offered. Then followed by a main course. I had a nice fish. Overall I can really recomment this restaurant. One of the best I had in the USA.

Superb Anniversary Dinner

By Rose B |

While visiting, saw a chance for Mediterranean food and decided perfect for our celebration. We were not disappointed. We had a Sunday evening reservation and were seated within minutes. We began with the bone marrow appetizer. Very original and tasty. One bone apiece. Zesty radish salad accompaniment. My husband said the meatballs were the best ever - he loves lots of tasty spices. They were tender, lots of sauce and creamy cheese filling, and just a tad spicy for me. My husband loves octopus, but I didn’t think I would try that dish. When it arrived it was so beautiful and so tasty that I would have it again. The dish is very original with the octopus just barely crispy outside but very tender. And just for good measure we sampled a Fico pizza to take back to our hotel. Who knew fresh figs belong on pizza? So delicious. I must mention the very attentive, superb service from the server. She knew the dishes, their preparation, and offered helpful suggestions both for wine and menu selections. And an empty dish never set on our table for a second before it was whisked away by staff. Just one word that’s not a reflection of the restaurants standing, but is merely environmental. If you are not used to city dining, this is a compact dining area that can become very noisy with happy, conversational diners. But enduring the noise was well worth the excellent food.

Highly recommended!

By Frolichhaus |

Excellent after theater venue! Started with valpolicella wine and cheese board. The wine and cheese selection with accompaniments were very good. Appetizers were the beet salad and Moroccan carrots both of which were excellent! Our further selections were the Arctic char and the beef cheeks. Both were superb. This was a very pleasant dinner and with excellent service.

Lively place with good food

By TathianaKarine |

The restaurant was walking distance from our hotel and quite full on a Wednesday night. They were very gentle to squeeze us in without a reservation (I would recommend that you have one). Pizza and food was great though we missed having more kid friendly options (just because my daughter is not into sophisticated flavors ).

Not for family

By Aam A |

This is an expensive and trendy place. Ambiance is great for date nights but my family did not care for the candlelit warm seats close to the open-fire stove. Pizza was good but only available in personal pan size. Pasta agnolotti was a minuscule portion for $19, more tapas size than an entree- picture attached. Ton of fancy ingredients such as “hen in the woods” (a fungus), sheep cheese, etc. but the combined taste was underwhelming. Definitely not a $$ place, I would definitely rate as $$$.

Dinner @ Barbuzzo on a chilly Sunday night.

By os2warp |

Not too far from our hotel, the hilton garden inn. Good location & atmosphere. A bit small & tight. Good tasty dishes, limited menu & wine list. Attentive service and average value. No wait time since we had a reservation and it was a cold Sunday evening. Try not to sit where the tables are just next to the stools facing the line cooks, because every time you turn your head towards the cooking area you'll be looking at the butts/rears of the other patrons sitting on the stools. Lastly, every staff person in the cooking area must wear hair nets. None of the 4 had anything covering their hair and head.

Knocked it out of the park!!

By Rachel S |

We were here for a special function. The food and service were beyond, beyond!! Constant glow of served food. Table full of self serve deliciousness. Then came the served entrees . And dessert. Of course, the biding is a classic favorite! Wait and bar staff the best!

Great unique menu dishes and service.

By foodnut003 |

The menu is different (small plates), but the items are really good. Suggest the grilled octopus. Wait staff are very friendly and helpful.Tables are very close, however, and noise level is high.

Delicious wood fired pizza and excellent staff!

By Claire |

Loved the food and overall experience. I sat at the bar and ordered a Calabrese wood fired pizza at the recommendation of Christine, a bartender. It was fresh and amazing. I ate at 5:30 and the place became packed by 6:30. They have indoor and outdoor dining. Great staff and food!

Great service & dessert

By xopaninixo |

The restaurant was great! I was seated even though my party wasn’t there yet. The seating was excellent because my party & I was seated a bit more in the restaurant rather than near the entrance. The server was attentive. Meatballs was amazing. Who knew the beet salad was so good! The desserts was delicious!

Service is bizarre

By Kenny |

Don't really understand what's up with the service at this hotel. Everyone seems like they hate working there. They seem unable to handle takeout and almost look down on you for doing takeout. It took forever to get someone to help with a takeout meal. Only redeeming quality is the salted caramel budino which is why the rating is at 3 stars and not 1. Still the best dessert in Philly, though with Van Leeuwen opening down the block that may be no more.

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE at Barbuzzo.

By Yuv |

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE at Barbuzzo. Me and my girlfriend traveled from New York for a day and a half in Philly. After having a dinner, we were walking around and found this seemed to be nice place, then decided to go inside for a drink. We stated nicely that we noticed the happy hour sign outside and therefore decided to come in, then after a few minutes got a table. We asked for the happy hour menu and received it. After asking for two Sangarias and french fries, the waitress said: "I'm sorry but I can't offer you drinks, I'd be happy to serve you dinner if you like". I responded "thank you but we just had a dinner, I don't understand, should we ask for drinks from the bartender?" She replied "no, I'm sorry, we can offer you just food". "I really don't understand, we came in because of the the sign, and we stated that to to hostess, are you run out of drinks?" She replied that according to the owner we just had enough drinks and he told her not to take any order of drinks from us. Our response was total shock, we never experienced something like that before. It was also funny because the last drink we had was 3 weeks before then. We left the place immediately.

Amazing Dinner

By David M |

One of the best place in Philly, we went by couple and the environment is really an American pub and the food is so good. We highly recommend this place for a dinner or even for a happy hour.

Terrific Group Dinner

By Terry L |

Our group of 20 people had a wonderful special event at Barbuzzo’s events space. The staff was upbeat and normative. The drinks, appetizers, entrees and desserts were all terrific. The pace of the meal was comfortable. The seared shrimp appetizer with polenta, feta and tomato was wonderful. The seared salmon entree was perfectly prepared. The salted Carmel nudities was a perfect dessert.

delicious!

By harbrsl |

My friend did me a favor by recommending this place. I wasn't even hungry when I came in because I had a late lunch and yet I ate every bite! The gnocchi with guanciale was so so good! I did take issue with the ratios of mushrooms to gnocchi and the waiter agreed with me. Still, the dish was so good! I loved the broth and the texture from the greens. I would have licked the bowl if I could... I'd heard so much about the salted caramel budino. It's no joke. That is one stupidly delicious dessert. Ate every bite. Got a great wine pairing recommendation from my waiter. The space was cool with all the wood. All in all, a great experience but docking a star was for my ratio comment.

Perfect place to stop before a show, or for any reason

By irishmist1 |

This is a great place to grab a bite before the theater. We stopped in before a show at the Academy of Music and were lucky enough to grab a seat at the bar, despite not having a reservation and it was a busy Wednesday night. Loved the view, being able to watch all the delicious dishes being prepared. We wanted to sample every one of them! We started with some shared apps. The Butternut Squash Arancini (rice balls) were great, very light and delicious. The Sweet Potato app was good, but not my favorite. I think there are better choices on the menu. We then shared the Tagliatelle with Duck Leg, and that was also excellent. None of these dishes were heavy or overly filling, and that would have likely been enough for us. But the pizza looked excellent, so I wanted to give that a shot. So we ordered a Margherita pizza, to eat a piece here and then take the rest home. And it did not disappoint. The service was pretty good. We had plenty of time to make our show. The waiter checked on us frequently (until we wanted the check and to leave. . .don't you just hate that?). But all in all he was good, and made good suggestions on what to try. We'll definitely go back here for a pre-theater dinner.

Simple and delicious food

By John D |

Was recently visiting Philadelphia and stumbled upon this restaurant. Was a good sign to see such a full restaurant. The food was actually prepared in front of me which was a pleasant surprise as I had alot of fun trying (unsuccessfully) to recreate what I was served that evening. Would highly recommend for a tasty meal when in Philadelphia.

Trendy Center City Eatery

By Howie |

Barbuzzo is a popular spot. Prices are average, but the staff is pleasant attentive. The food itself is okay; the focus seems to be more on the presentation than the flavor. A favorite ingredient of the kitchen is salt. The appearance of the plates is above average, the atmosphere fine, the staff pleasant, but the food itself is average.

Authentic Italian Pizza

App-butternut squash balls, yummy. The scallops and pasta are divine. The autumn salad is fresh but lacking in flavor. Coaatatmosphere.

Great food, great service.

By NJ_Ram |

Took my girlfriend there for a milestone birthday. Ordered cheese board as an appetizer which was very good. I ordered the Bay Scallop Bucatini and my girlfriend ordered the Caciovallo Stuffed Meatballs, of which both were very good. Had the Tiramisu for dessert which was very good. Note the atmosphere is rustic and cool, but close seating can make it crowded. Overall we had a good experience.

Hold up to the hype!

By sammymadison |

Came here after reading several reviews as well as recommendations from locals. The reviews and recommendations were spot on. Barbuzzo is a hip, scratch kitchen Italian restaurant. It is located in the middle,of a fun young hip part of town. I tried the meatballs and the gnocchi and both were home runs. Go,try, and enjoy!

Great find

We had an odd 3:15 reservation pre-Kimmel Center on a Sunday afternoon and everything went very well. Our server, Christine was outstanding as was our sausage pizza and shared salad. We hadn't been here in several years but we'll certainly be back sooner when in the area.

Ash bottom crust margarita pizza and excessively burnt rim

By venkatesh4415 |

Ash filled margarita pizza and burnt crust. Took 2 takeout pizza and didn't check them. Was horrible to taste as it bottom of the pizza had lot of ash along with burnt rim crust. One of the pizza had sauce which was falling liquid. Really disappointing.

Great food, fun atmosphere

By RockyG225 |

I dined here with my wife and two grown daughters on December 23 after seeing the Nutcracker at the Academy of Music. We wanted a place within walking distance. I had heard of Barbuzzo, but did not know much about it and I was not familiar with the 13th street area. We loved it. The atmosphere is hip and vibrant, but friendly. It’s bustling, but not over-crowded. Service was prompt and the food was delicious. This is the place you are looking for. The menu is described as Mediterranean small plates, but the offerings are broader than that. They have small plates, but they also have great pizza and pasta. We ordered a variety of items. We started with Mediterranean olives and the sheep’s milk ricotta snacks. Delicious. We had sides of Moroccan carrots and pan seared Brussel sprouts. Tasty and interesting. We tried two pizzas, the margherita and the pera, both really good, but with the pera (made with red Bartlett pears, Gorgonzola and prosciutto) being the biggest hit. We also had fideua, a Catalan shrimp and mussel paella with pasta instead of rice. Our last dish was the Farfalle Gigante with braised beef cheek. Every dish seemed better than the last. Of course we ordered way too much food, but we enjoyed it all. Highly recommend. We are all looking for a reason to go back!

Warm Water and Dark Place

By APLING |

I had a high expectation after reading good reviews, and also visited another restaurant on the same street where they served excellent food. This restaurant was dark and noisy (just like another one) but just darker. We saw many people using phone light to see their menu (young and old). Seating process was nice and quick. The server brought us a menu promptly, but that was the end of the good part. Water was very warm and we had to sip the warm water while waiting for the server to come back to take our order for about 15 minutes! Food was very average. Food wasn't bad to be fair, but just nothing memorable. The server was not very friendly and they forgot to serve us a salad we ordered. Overall, Barbuzzo just did not meet our expectations.

Super rude place. First everyone

By Oxi |

Super rude place. First everyone ignored us standing by the host stand. Then when we asked if anyone will seat us the servers standing chatting at the bar just waved us off and said the host will be with us as soon as he can. When we got seated the server was rude too, we ask him a question he says no and walks away. We ask about a drink he doesn’t even give a chance for everyone to order and just walks away. The worst experience we had. Only when the time came to pay the server suddenly decided to play nice and ask if we like everything. Too late. Poor hospitality, you need to learn how to treat customers.

By kaenhu |

Just came here to try the famous budino. We were seated at the bar when we told them what we we came for and this was great since the place was packed. The budino is indeed as great as everyone says. Our service was just average. Our server got our order, brought our food, we paid, we left. No TLC of the customer here, I felt a bit like I was buying french fries at a ballpark concession stand. Might come back and try the food here. Probably would bet better customer service.

Great Food, Wonderful Experience

By jennygirl57 |

We visited Barbuzzo on a rainy Sunday after seeing a show nearby. Arrived promptly at 5 as we had reservations. The restaurant filled up quickly, so reservations are recommended. Small, intimate space. Only complaint is that the tables are minuscule. Seriously tiny. We conversed with friendly couple at adjacent table, we were seated so close. Glad they were friendly The food is top notch. Locally sourced. We started off with cocktails (basil lemonade for me. Refreshing!) The server (attentive and professional, but I forgot his name. Sorry!) suggested 2 plates per person. Excellent advice. We started off with the roasted beet salad with kale and pistachio pesto. Delicious. Continued with funghi pizza, just perfect. Pizza was served with oil and oregano to add. We shared the Spanish octopus and porcini crusted hangar steak. Accolades! Perfectly sized to share. The dessert which others had highly recommended: budino. My, oh, my. Salty, caramel, chocolaty, creamy perfection. We will definitely return. So many other items on menu enticed us, so we will return to try them. Also, to get the budino again.

Great food overall

By em-2115 |

I ate here after arriving in Phily on a Saturday evening at 10 pm. To my surprise, the place was packed, and I had to sit at the chef’s counter. However, the food was amazing! I tried a little bit of everything on the menu, but the pastas here were the best. The pasta is not too soft and a little bit chewy. I would also suggest their tiramisu for dessert. Overall, this restaurant serves food in small plates, and although each were slightly expensive, I enjoyed every bit of it.

Great brunch overall

By ecotait |

Easy to get seated, very nice staff. We started with the rolled oats -- very tasty, fresh, good combination of flavors. I had the Brioche French Toast -- it was delicious. My husband had the pizza -- overall, pizza was okay, but there was too much sauce on it. The crust was good though.

Wonderful restaurant!

By TravelingAnts |

Excellent food and very reasonable value. I highly recommend the Bronzino and the staff were lovely. Sit outside and experience the Philly nightlife!

Food & cocktails were great

By Walaitswendy |

The food & cocktails were great. I had stuffed grape leaves, meatballs, gnocchis, and a drink. Everything was yummy and very fresh.

Not for me.

By Henke_dk |

The restaurant is centrally located and you can eat both inside and outside. I had the restaurant recommended. They serve classic Italian food, pasta and pizza. The food is served in small portions and it is fine but in terms of price it is expensive. The food tastes quite good Service was not ⁇ good, there was poor attention and where one did not know the menu ⁇ well. The place cannot be recommended for the Award.

Excellent!!

By Heather E |

Excellent food. Wonderful atmosphere. Top notch service. Meatballs, beet salad, and pizza were great. Octopus was outrageously good.

Magnificent, Memorable Mediterranean Meal!

By RobArmstrong421 |

On a recent visit to my former home city, Philadelphia, a friend recommended that I eat at Barbuzzo (self-described as a Mediterranean kitchen and bar) at least once. It's one of a cluster of fantastic restaurants that line 13th Street in Philly's gay neighborhood, close to theaters, gay bars and nightlife. I had eaten at El Vez, Lolita and Jamonera, all within steps of Barbuzzo, and all of them exceptional. Having lived in Spain for six months my junior year in college--and being half Spanish myself--I have always loved the cuisine of Spain and the rest of the Mediterranean , including French, Italian, Greek, Turkish, Israeli, Egyptian and Moroccan food. The menu at Barbuzzo offered so many appealing and adventurous starters and entrees, I had a hard time choosing. I'm Type 2 diabetic and on a plant-based diet currently that allows almost any animal protein, but limits carbohydrates (including a lot a vegetables considered healthy) and dairy. Given my only dairy options are sheep's and goat's milk along with cheeses made from them, I opened with the Sheep's Milk Ricotta. The scoop of it with Arbequina olive oil, fig condimento, sicilian oregano and sea salt was unexpected and incredible. The grilled french country bread (I enjoyed every slice in spite of my carb restrictions) was unnecessary since I ate most of it with a spoon... Amazing. My main course was Fideua, a Catalan noodle paella. Mussels, shrimp, chistorras chorizo, braised pork and sofrito over roasted shrimp noodles in a garlic aioli... It was savory, light and intoxicating. Totally unlike a traditional paella a la valenciana. I finished my experience with the strawberry rhubarb with goat cheese ice cream and almonds and one of the biggest capuccinos I've ever had the pleasure of drinking. I would enthusiastically recommend this place not only for the food, but the impeccable service. My server recommended a better wine for my meal than I had chosen myself--and her choice was perfect. The atmosphere is subdued and romantic. And despite the open kitchen, the indoor temperature remained more than comfortable. The people at Barbuzzo are doing everything right. I hope this place is around for years to come.

Post Flower Show dinner

First time here. Arrived just as it was opening at 5:00. Friendly staff, very good food and nice atmosphere. Had the beet-kale salad, sun chokes and Brussel sprouts as apps and the meatball plate and a pizza. All were very tasty. Pizza crust in center could have been a little more firm. Nice beer and win3 selection.

A cozy-little restaurant with good food!

As my title says this is actually a little cozy restaurant of Philadelphia with great food. They have some outside sitting arrangements too...but one should still make reservations before going.

Went a little early as we knew that it would be crowded as we passed it several times earlier on our trip. Catherine helped us make selections...pizza, meatballs and salad...tapas kind of menu...smaller portions but very good on the flavor!!! My girlfriend and I totally enjoyed our visit!! Thanks!

Lovely Italian-ish Bistro

By David B |

The bar seating area consists of a smallish bar and a larger "chef's counter," where I sat and watched everything prepared. Great value, good-sized portions, and buzzy ambience. I was told it's woman-owned and that they have some other places. The stuffed meatballs for $12 could be a meal on their own. Great service. Go!

Great place in town with lovely food and friendly staff.

This place has table on the street, as well as a large restaurant. The food was great. Watermelon salad with feta was light and delicious. The pizza was excellent, as were the arancini and the potato skins. A real standout lace, and a great place to go with friends or family alike.

Unfriendly, Not a good evening

By Japando |

Driving through Philly we stopped for brunch with my wife, our teenage daughter and friend. We parked and Walked to Zavino . unfortunately it was closed for the day and because my crew was hungry we stepped next door to Barbuzzo. The person that greeted us was rude and despite having only half of the tables occupied he offered us the counter seating. The girls asked to stay “we are hungry” and therefore we agreed The food was very average. Our server Christine was friendly The budino was very good ( the highlight of our meal). We will not return to this place The host was arrogant and clearly has an issue with people that are not Caucasian.

You must eat here!

By nicisullivan |

We went to Philadelphia for a five day vacation and ate here three times!! We ate something different each time (octopus, pizzas, olives, bone marrow, short ribs) and drinks (loved their sangria and beer), and had their fabulous desert (thank you to the manager!)...great atmosphere and service! Highly recommend!

Hipster Italian Dining Spot

On a Saturday night, we experienced close quarters, but great service, innovative and good quality food, as well as great drinks. Reservations are a must, unless you are OK with eating at the bar. Be aware: at least on the weekend, it's really buzzy.

How do they continue to do a great job?

By Karen M |

Stopped in (of course with reservations) on an early Sunday afternoon. We sat at the chef's table started with drinks and wine and had two apps, arancini and copa and olives and both were very good. Both had pasta dishes, husband had a pork ragu in tomato sauce and I had the nero pasta with shrimp which was excellent and perfectly prepared. Of course finished with the budino which I forced down because I don't like to leave without having one. We have been coming here since it opened and I think it gets better every trip. Cannot say that about many places today. Great job to the whole team. Did I mention it takes us over an hour to get here? Not a problem though for greatness.

Great food, service needs a little work

By BobMyr |

Our table ordered papas fritas, focaccia, gnocci, 2 types of pizza and steak. Everything was cooked to perfection and each plate had a unique culinary twist. I highly recommend Barbuzzo for the food. The service, though, did not match the quality of the food. The hostess and waiter were not very enthusiastic: the attitude of both was pretty much "just trying to get by."

A fabulous find!

My wife and I happened upon this place on a Saturday evening. The food was excellent - some of the best pasta I have ever eaten and the salad was excellent too. Plan on a wait Saturday night but well worth it!

Great food and service

By Stefano L |

Very good food, not the traditional Italian but a revisited version. Pizza was very good as well as the pasta and tiramisu. It was very busy on a Friday lunch, a bit too much noise but the service was quick.

Excellent sidewalk happy hour specials!

By Mloeser15 |

Great sidewalk happy-hour dinner. Whipped ricotta and the arancini were delicious with 1/2 price drinks! Enjoyed sidewalk dinner.

Good but not outstanding - fair prices

By Harmonicaharold |

This place is popular because prices are fair and the food is good. Service was friendly and professional. Reserve in advance.

Excellent food and atmosphere

We had a great dinner at Barbuzzo. Great food and atmosphere. Sit outside if the weather is nice. Will definitely be back next time we're in town.

Fresh and delish

We were able to grab dinner at the counter last minute after arriving in Philly for the weekend. My daughter and I enjoyed our meal and the friendly staff.

Small plates and pizza

By Brendan S |

Barbuzzo combines a few types of food. It's loosely Mediterranean, with a bunch of "fancy" pizzas and craft beer selections. The pizza was heavy on the cheese, and was about the right size for one person. The restaurant decor is dark with a lot of wood and it's a pretty good atmosphere although the tables are very close to each other.

A great night escape for a healthy treat in Philly

By Scarlet Cavallo |

What a great place, excellent location with delicious food and a very palatable choice of wine to pair their dishes. It was a mental trip to Spain once I tasted my yummy fish. Deserts there might be worth trying them but the fact that they are right in front of an ice cream place makes it super tempting to escape it. 😋 Hey! Best of all, the kitchen is open until midnight. At least I had my food at 11pm. 👌

Just what we needed arriving in Philadelphia

By AmazingWAMA |

We arrived in Philadelphia late and walked around trying to find a place for dinner. Many places were fully booked with waiting times blah blah. Then we waked pass Barbuzzo and they immediately had a spot at the bar for dinner. Awesome! Both food, cocktails and service was fantastic and we would happily go again. Highly recommend! :)

At the bar

By Pappy F |

Well only went in there because it was so cold outside - you had two colleagues one from Australia and one one France - could only find space at the bar and were offered to eat there. I am a low carbs type of person - was told they did not cater for me so dived in with what was there. Had arancini balls, the butternut salad (not) but it was amazingly delicious, meat balls and gnocchi (that was great ) stayed had a few drinks and was well looked after by the bar an. I only write reviews of places I really like - so enjoy !! The farms helped with the candles and all !! Thanks

Good food

By Forever_Pink9 |

Dined here recently with my husband. The food was good. We had a fresh tomato pizza that was outstanding. The meatballs were also very good..could have been served hotter to make them outstanding. The shrimp & spaghetti dish was not a favorite of mine but it wasn’t bad. The shrimp was well prepared and very fresh. The restaurant is very small if you have never been. Depending on the people next to you it can be slightly uncomfortable (the girl next to me was so loud it was hard to focus on my own conversation). The wine list is nice but there glass and bottle. The budino dessert was different and light. This place is definitely worth a try if you are in the neighborhood....but you need a reservation!!!!

Busy Sunday evening

By Plucas1234 |

We snagged a 7 pm reservation via Open Table. Very crowded, but nice vibe to the place. We order pizza, and an order of meatballs, Pizza was very good, Meatballs were delicious. Glad we went.

Most incredible combinations of flavors!

By creativecrew |

Truly the best meal I remember! Colleagues were very impressed with the unusual ingredients and superb blurts of flavors! Meals are meant to be shared. Our server, Lauren, had fantastic recommendations on several pizzas, a beef and chicken entree and the Brussels Sprouts salad.

Just too crowded

By jay170 |

The restaurant has great atmosphere but is just too crowded. Tables on top of each other! This also makes it very noisy when busy. The food and service were good tho- the mixed seafood very tasty

Very Happy Surprise!!!

By Adam D |

The place was packed and we didn't have a reservation but the chef's counter was available. We got to watch the food being prepared and it was like a show. The service was fast and the food came out super quick. Sorry no photos the food looked way to good so we dove right in. The Mushroom Arancini, was AWESOME, probably the best thing we had in Philly. The Pappardelle and Casarecce entries where great and the Salted Carmel Budino for dessert should NOT be missed. Great meal end-to-end.

Great!

We had a really delicious meal here. It’s a little pricey, but the homemade pastas and the fresh seafood definitely make it worth a visit.

Not Your National Chain Restaurant

Creative menu, superb service, knowledgeable wait staff (especially with wine selections), adequate portions. Selections designed to share. Reasonably priced. A real gem.

Excellent

By LouWanders505 |

Unfortunately our visit didn't get off to the best of starts. The guests on the table before us refused to vacate the table after they had paid, despite the host explaining he needed the table back! It was so busy that we were left waiting in the doorway as there was no space in the bar. The host was so apologetic though and gave us complimentary desserts to make up for something that was entirely out of his control! This aside, we had an excellent experience. The staff were really friendly and offered some great recommendations on what to order. The food was brilliant, the pizza's particularly went down a treat! Would definitely recommend, just be aware that they will require the table back!
