Stylish and excellent Mediterranean food and vibe

By TechnoProf |

A place with character and clear distinctive food offering reflecting creative Mediterranean food styles but with Turkish and Lebanese specialities. With outdoor and extensive indoor dining you will still need to book. Salads and inventive meat and fish dishes with unusual flavours . So good I went twice. Not to be missed.

A bit of the Mediterranean in downtown San Francisco

By pchas |

My sisters and I visited this new Mediterranean dining spot in the heart of downtown San Francisco for a late lunch and were very pleased. I had the lamb kebab sandwich. Very flavorful and also very juicy, which makes it a bit hard to eat with decorum, but worth the effort. The sandwich comes with your choice of one side--crispy new potatoes, bulgur wheat or mixed greens. I had the crispy new potatoes which were very good--outside crispy inside creamy smooth. At $17, the price is a bit high for the portion size, but the overall quality is very good. The wine list is heavy on Mediterranean wines, Greek, Turkish and Italian. Two pours are offered, a 3 ounce and a 6 ounce. I had a full-bodied Italian red that was a perfect accompaniment to the lamb sandwich. We did not have dessert. Entrees were a bit slow coming from the kitchen considering the restaurant was mostly empty. San Francisco is a seaport, so the restaurant should have more seafood offerings. An olive oil broiled salmon and a prawn sandwich are the only seafood on the menu. I originally ordered the salmon, but they were sold out. A fish of the day would be a welcome addition, as would a soup of the day. It was a cold day when we ate there and soup would have hit the spot just right. On the whole we enjoyed our visit to Barcha, and intend to return again.

Fantastic food, reasonably priced; very slow service

By MNWorldTraveler |

All of the appetizers are tasty and good for sharing. Shrimp was particularly good. Nice vibe and convenient location. The problem is the service. I’ve been here several times for work dinners and it is consistently slow. This last time, I had to go find a server to bring me my check.

Unique Mediterranean eatery

By t w |

Unique appetizers- duck meatballs - delicious!!! Croquettes, hummus and more. Great red snapper and beef kabob!! Fun, vibrant atmosphere. Call for reservation or go early.

Very good. Stylish and high quality food- convenient to FiDi hotels

By SFTRVLR |

Overall we had an excellent experience at Barcha. Delicious mediterranean food. Hummus was good and the pita was excellent- two must-have's at any Indonesian place! Beef dumplings were really delicious and the steak was good but a bit fatty. Service was top notch and they helped to celebrate a family birthday. Really huge and nice patio with great decor so it still felt like a themed area- not a non descript patio. The location is a bit odd in the midst of skyscrapers and office buildings, but Barcha establishes a nice decor. I was happy to see it quite busy on a Saturday night, as restaurants in business districts have had a very hard time during COVID. Definitely will plan to come back here someday.

Very good food, delightful service

The food in this Turkish restaurant was fresh and tasty and lots of options. But the service was what stood out. Our waiter, from Istanbul, was very attentive and offered options to make a gluten free meal work beautifully.

Easy and Delicious Mediterranean Dining at Barcha, San Francisco

By Janet C |

Barcha provides a casual atmosphere. The seating is comfortable; the service is attentive; and the food is delicious. By 6 pm, the rush hour traffic has cleared out, and it's easy to enjoy a dinner at one of the sidewalk tables. You can make a meal from the extensive selection of mezze, which includes flatbreads, humus, olive oil poached tuna, patatas brava and potato and sheep's milk feta croquette. Or the salads, which feature a lovely kale Cesar salad with the usual add-ons. The sides include cauliflower with shaved red and green peppers, quinoa, new potatoes and Persian rice. We didn't touch the entrees, but you should. The food is consistently reliable in its freshness and taste, and the wine selections perfectly compliment the food. Bon appetit!

Amazing!!

Our first night in San Fran and we happen upon this place. I called ahead to make sure we didnt need a reservation, and William was so accomodating. He squeezed us in at 5:30. Thank you!! The food was delicious and the service even better!! We tried the croquetas, octopus, lamb meatballs, shrimp, Shashuka, turkish flatbread. ALL of it was full of flavor and awesome! they owner found out we were there for our 11 yr old twin daughters birthday and sent out two desserts with candles. So thoughtful! What a perfect way to start out our San Fran vacation!!

When you feel absolutely welcome you definitely come back.

Excellent service, great food, friendly. We arrived almost at closing time but we were welcome and reassured that we would be serviced without rush. A real customer centric behavior.

Delicious and delightful

By Adrienne R |

Went for lunch with my husband. Barcha has a light airy feel and had a very relaxing inviting feel. We started with the chicken croquettes and hummus which were delicious. The chicken had a light honey sauce with mustard seed and finely sliced red onion. The meat was pieces rather than pulled and was beautifully cooked. The hummus was beautifully presented and very tasty. The flat bread was a little different in that it was soft and had olive oil already on it. My husband isn't a really big fan of hummus but enjoyed it. We shared the "plate" and could have had only that as it is a large portion. We chose the lamb and turkey selection - lamb chunks on a skewer and turkey sliced off the grill. The whole meal was fresh, colorful and very tasty. I had the Moroccan mint tea to which fresh leaves had been added. Service was friendly and attentive without being invasive. Definitely will go back

An Amazing Shared Plate Experience!

By Paul S |

So a vegan, a pescetarian, and 2 meat eaters walk into a bar ... well at least they walked into Barcha and loved every minute of it! Dinner with a group of old friends, shared tapas plates, and great wine. A fantastic evening all round. The octopus, the tuna, the prawns, the ratatouille, the hummus, the mashed potatoes and the salads were all delicious! None of us left hungry and if we weren't all from different cities, I'd say we'd be back SOON. Next time we're together in San Francisco we'll all head back to Barcha!

Okay lunch but overpriced

By meintsm |

I went here for lunch today. The interior is nice and the place is busy and noisy. But it's to be expected in the FiDi for lunch. I had the shawarma sandwich which was good, nothing exceptional. Having live in Detroit which has limitless shawarma places I am used to there being pickles in the sandwich. They were on the side here and not enough to make it through the sandwich with each bite, so that was disappointing. The price is over priced but I knew that when choosing lunch place. All in all an okay place I would give it 3.5 stars but no half stars in review. I downgraded instead of up on the basis, I saw the humus plate (bowl) was 8.00, way overpriced.

Upscale Mediterranean

By Bruce C |

I went with 6 colleagues to this ‘fancy’ Mediterranean restaurant. It is worth exploring the menu first - in the end I think the Braised Duck Kabsa and the Shakshuka were the entree hits. I highly recommend the Meeza platter and the spiced dumplings as appetizers. The Meeza platter is an assortment but the portions are small enough to that it serves 2-3 at best. But it was very different (in a good way) than the generic platters in most Mediterranean restaurants. I also give 5 stars to the Brussels Sprouts. The service was terrific and despite the crowd, we never felt rushed.

Nice mediterranean restaurant in the financial district San Francisco

By Kenneth L |

Solid mediterranean restaurant with lots of space for parties. Went there on a Saturday night which is quieter than on weekdays. Enjoyed the food and service and look forward to returning

Very good Good and service

By happyhok |

Really love the food spread ! The service is great too. Went during lunch time and it was crowded but nevertheless the service and food was great! Is just at the Salesforce tower and west area.

Decent, nothing too special, kind staff but a bit unprofessional

By marrei |

Looks like a restaurant happened by coincidence, the food is decent, the atmosphere as well, but there's nothing too special about it, you can have a nice evening but then forget about it Everything is a bit too casual, the bathroom was ok but not too clean, if the prices were lower it would be a perfect place for a causal dinner

Awesome in every way!

By Marie R |

Love this place! Food is spot on perfect. Service is great and ambiance is exceptional. Doesn’t feet better than this. A perfect meal every time. Recommend 100% for business, special meal or just a extra special mid week treat.

Nice Mediterranian cousine in a relaxed atmosphere

By Mira2009umit |

Good food in a relaxed atmosphere. The appetizers are so tasty and plentiful that you may even want to skip the main course. The wine selection is a bit weak but they compansate it with their beer selections. The service was great, the prices were very moderate and the hostess was so friendly and pleasant that I will definitely go there to see her once again.

Good food but service lacked

By MuseumMom57 |

I made an Open Table reservation at this busy spot for a business lunch. We arrived on time and were told our table would be ready in a minute. We waited five minutes and went back to the hostess - she apologized but said the guests were lingering. All this while, there were tables available outside - we asked if we could simply be seated there, which we were. We were finally able to order and our meals were served - it was a busy day so some waiting was not unexpected. However, it took some time to secure our check at the end. Good food and ample amounts - they could try to manage the popularity a little better...

Yum in The City!

By Matt D |

We had a WONDERFUL dinner on the patio this past Friday evening . Service was wonderful! Our waiter gave us great suggestions. Our food was outstanding!

Great Mediterranean food

By Sushar |

Barcha serves great Mediterranean food at reasonable prices (for SFO). The Hummus, Ratatouille and Falafel are all delicious. The service is good considering they are always busy and they have plenty of seating space inside and outside.

Delicious take out

By Scott95401 |

I needed a quick takeout meal in between meetings. Barcha made me a lamb kabob sandwich (actually a wrap) in about 10 minutes. It was one of the tastiest sandwiches I've ever had -- the lamb was amazing, and wonderfully spiced. The restaurant looks nice as well. The only drawback was the price -- relatively expensive.

Energetic, happening place-great food

By Jill H |

Very flavorful food, and attentive staff. Near the financial district. The owner, Kais Bouzidi, grew up in France, in a family of restaurateurs and began his career in the restaurant industry at the age of 14; his executive chef has 20+ years of chefing experience. You can tell! It also was a 2016 OpenTable Diner's Choice Award Winner. While crowded on a Wednesday evening at 6pm, our meals were delivered promptly, the service was attentive, the food excellent, with lots of small plate appetizers to chose from for the table, along with generous main courses. Good wine list.

Excellent quick service especially for a group...

By leroyk |

We had a group of 6 for a team lunch. They were able to get us in and out under an hour. Nice. Food was excellent. Staff was great. Recommend.

mediocracy

By Zack M |

uptight, this place is trying way to hard for mediocre food if the managers paid a little more attention to their attitude and less of how many times the server comes to the table it would be a better experience less is more, unobtrusive service doesn't exist here hurried not a happy fun place

Excellent food and great service!

By blondiemurc |

This restaurant is delicious and surprisingly, reasonable priced (lunch). For the starters, try the Falafel and the Chicken Croquettes. They were both cooked perfectly with a mix of great spices and flavor. For the entree, try the Slow Roasted Berkshire Rosemary Pork - it was delicious - or for something lighter, the Chopped Salad was also very tasty. The other thing I really liked about the restaurant was the fact that the kitchen is completely open so you can see how your food is being prepared. In addition, every member of the staff I encountered was super friendly. I would highly recommended this restaurant.

Middle eastern interior with a great outdoor patio too. Love the oils!

By chicago90Phoenix |

Eating outside in SF at night in November without a jacket or heater is simply amazing. I was drawn to the interior of this restaurant's interior lights and décor. Try the appetizers and a tall beer at happy hour.

Not as italian as it seems

By Friedrich42 |

Seating outside in January without gaslamps is not a good idea. In Addition Service took Long, and italian Food was not italian.

Nice environment, good food, attentive service, a-bit pricey

By Edward-A A |

Have a dinner with my colleagues in a weekday in March. Surprised that the restaurant is not busy (there are lots of empty tables throughout our 2-hour dinner) but anyway we still have an advanced reservation. There is a one-page menu consisting of starters, salad, entrees and sides. All of us try a few starters and swordfishes, which are of great quality and reasonable size. There is also an one-page alcoholic menu that is of reasonable price and another small book of alcoholic menu that offers higher-quality but more expensive wines. The desert menu is also great.

Very good/ unique

By MSYMd |

Met another couple for dinner. I had the Kebab which was good but doesn't come with other garnishes. My wife had the lamb which was very good. The appetizer peppers are very good as well.

Happy Hour Heaven

By GGPohl |

We stopped by looking for good food and drink at 430 pm and got excellent small dishes and superb service. The lamb meatballs with feta and tomato are out of this world. Ratatouille and Mediterranean sausage were also great snacks.

Terrible experience

By Benwill79 |

The food is terrible, this is a strong avoid from me. There are so many better options in San Francisco

Great new meditteranean restaurant in San Francisco

By Veronica H |

The place is well located between the Financial District, SoMa and even Union Square. The restaurant is modern Mediterranean/Middle east décor. The menu has sandwiches, salads and a couple of main courses. I had a veal wrap that was excellent, someone else had the lamb wrap and one had a salad with prawns. We also split some humus and ratatouille for an app. The food is very plentiful and absolutely delicious, the wraps include a side order of your choice like roasted potatoes. They also have a full bar and good wine list. It's a fun, lively place with reasonable prices and very good service. I would recommend you make a reservation for lunch as it gets very busy.

Outdoor dining in November

By Expert Traveler |

I conducted three business meetings here during a very busy conference week. We were able to dine outside in November, there’s heaters to keep you warm if there’s a breeze. The overall experience was excellent. The service is good, the staff is friendly, and the food is tasty. It’s easy to eat healthy here and you don’t feel guilty about your meals because they’re so healthy. During the course of the week we probably had every appetizer on the menu. Each were equally great. The food, the flavors, the sauces, it’s just also incredible. I really enjoyed the dining here. Great job

Fun lunch place

By Mary G |

Make sure to make a reservation because it gets crowded at lunch. Service was very good and meal was excellent. Their small wine list was nice.

Barcha Delivered

By Wayne M |

Our small group of business colleagues ate at Barcha as an alternative to the common options such as steakhouses. Every was pleased with the presentation and flavors of our meals. I had lamb shoulder which melted in my mouth. Servers were attentive and the causal atmosphere was quiet enough to hold a conversation. Great neighborhood dining experience.

Great Food Better Service

By bryan_513 |

Barcha was a great experience. If you are with friends or colleagues, order as many appetizers / small plates as possible and share around the table. There are too many amazing options to choose just one! Our server, Dennis, was excellent. He was helpful in selecting dishes and also making recommendations for our visit to SF. We were also able to make reservations on Saturday night, which just added to the great service.

Enjoyable food, good service

By bardsf |

I had driven by Barcha maybe 2,000+ times and had often thought of stopping in for a small bite or a glass of wine or both. The other night, our group of four enjoyed ourselves and the food. Service was very, very good (tres bon). Alan is an excellent waiter. We had scallops, Shakshuka, large prawns, the rack of lamb, octopus (you know me by now), hummus, falafel, and more. All dishes seemed to arrive at the right time, in the right order. My friends were a little puzzled by the Shakshuka so mostly stayed away -- which meant all for me of the savory, spicy dish complete with the fried egg on top. In a word: fantastisch. Okay, okay, I am mixing languages. But we do live and work and eat in the Bay Area, so read elsewhere if you must. If I have any complaint, it's the price on many items. Too high in my view, especially the wines. Will return. -- workingman's gourmand.

Blown away

By April Aurora |

My husband, son and I went to Barcha for lunch. I have not eaten much Mediterranean food, so I am always nervous that I am not going to get what I should, but I do not think that you can go wrong here. I got the the Kabsa Rice Plate with grilled shrimp. It was absolutely delicious. I shared with my son and he loved it too. My husband got the Shawarma sandwich with toasted chicken and my son got the Heirloom Tomato Salad. The spice level was not high. I have to learn how to make rice this way! It is a very busy and crowded place - not uncomfortable, but do make a reservation. I highly recommend this place. It was a highlight in this city of great food.

Barcha is Terrible - Skip this one

By JoAnn M |

Terrible ..too many better restaurants to spend your money. Nothing good to say about this Barcha. As soon as we were seated we knew it was a mistake. We wish we had picked out a better place to enjoy a meal with friends.

Disappointed

By rakesh p |

We went to this place yesterday. When we made the reservation we were told that 25$/person no show charge will be taken for no show. Agreed. We reach at 730. At 8 the staff comes and tells us that the kitchen is closing. Why the hell did they not tell us that before when we made the reservation. The ususal time is

Kale Salad? What? YES!!!

By Todd N |

Great Mediterranean place. The kale salad is the best I've ever had. Even if you don't like kale. Other things are tasty as well. I was told to get the hummus because it would be the best I've ever had; thought it was fine.

Tapas Means Small Plates, Not Small Prices

By Midlifetrippin |

Four of us dined at Barcha last night. The location in the financial district is easy to find and offers both indoor and outdoor dining venues. The interior is attractive, if a bit tight. Reservations lead to immediate seating in a full restaurant. Service was appropriately quick. Ordered bottled water while we chose wine from an overpriced, yet interesting, wine list. Representation from Israel, Lebanon, Greece, and other lesser known wine regions. Of course, there was also some Spanish and Italian wine offerings. Opted for an Etna Rosso from Sicily that is a very good wine, but as above, overpriced. After wine, we moved right into the tapas offerings with Hummus, English Pea Falafel, Smashed Avocado with Poached Egg, and Beef filled Dumplings. All of the dishes were good, but the serving sizes left much to be desired. Once these were eaten, we moved to entrees and chose an Eggplant with Goat Cheese dish, skewer of beer, and a half chicken. These offerings were larger as you would expect with an Entree, but the pricing was also significantly more. A half chicken at over $30 is expensive, regardless how good it is. In this case, it was good, but nothing special. Finally a couple of after dinner drinks and the final bill was delivered at over $300. Just check out my other reviews and you will note that I like nice places and don't mind paying a fair dollar for them. In this case, the costs simply is not justified by the pricing. One additional note on the service. While attentive, not great. Lack of knowledge, inability to open the wine bottle, and after buying bottled water our water poured over with tap water;. Final analysis: Nice location and food, but not worth the expense. Would hope that Barcha reconsiders it's pricing structure

Booking mix up

By Milliec |

I phoned up in November to book a business dinner for my boss for a business trip to San Francisco this month. The booking was for Sunday 12th Jan for him and a group of his clients. I checked twice when I made the booking that the details were correct and at not one point was I told the restaurant doesn’t open on a Sunday. Needless to say it was very embarrassing when his clients arrived at a closed restaurant. I called today to complain and spoke to the manager, Suzanne who was very off hand, told me I should have Googled the opening hours and then said she couldn’t understand my accent - I have a London accent! I had to ask for her name 4 times before she agreed to give it to me so that I could escalate the complaint further. In all the years my boss has travelled on business to SF this is the first time we have experienced such poor customer service with a restaurant.

meh....boring waste of time

overpriced pretentious servers are not even happy working they seem like robots mediocre food I could get better for half the price

Lovely concept, poor execution

Basically it is a high end kebab shop wearing a Mediterranean skirt without the breadth or depth to justify the prices The location is great The decor is delightful The salads are amazing The reception staff would have been more welcoming if she stabbed us with a fork on arrival Prices are very Manhattan Tables are very close to each other so impossible to talk Lacks the warmth of a Bay Area restaurant Need a change of reception staff Prices at

Mediterranean Food w/a grest patio

By Nicole T |

Unsure why someone said this was Italian food, it is not. It's Mediterranean, mostly Turkish. The service was friendly and professional although a little slow. The food was excellent. Tried the Muhammara (the flatbread was delicious) the lamb meatballs, the Sea Bass, the Lamb, and the Duck. All were excellent, especially the Sea Bass. Others had the Croquettas, Jidori Chicken, the Baklava ice cream and Chocolate pot de creme and said they were all very good. Will definitely return.

Decent Mediterranean style dinner, particularly for larger groups

By Moleseyboy |

We visited Barcha for a post-work bite to eat and a glass of wine. The food was decent, freshly prepared and tasty. In the event, I had a couple of gin & tonics to wash it down. For three of us, the bill came to nearly $200 which struck me as steep for a few tapas like dishes, some hummous and flatbreads. However, it was very convenient, the service was friendly and the setting comfortable.

Tasty!

By willemb89 |

A coworker was raving about Barcha so I decided to give it a try. I’ve to admit, the food was absolutely great, especially the duck dish.

Good food, but few vegetarian options

By Rob R |

The shakshouka was delicious. Service was good, if a little slow. The restaurant is described as having vegetarian options, but they were very limited. A fellow diner had to choose a couple of appetizers because of a dearth of vegetarian entrees. Like most restaurants, it was quite noisy, challenging for a hearing-impaired individual.

Nice but pricey lunch

By SLDSanFrancisco_CA |

I met a friend for lunch - definitely book ahead, this place is packed. It was so loud inside that luckily they were able to seat us outside. I had the heirloom tomato salad, which was nice, but there was WAY more arugula than anything else. I added falafel, which tasted good but arrived with 4 small falafel - a bit expensive for the price. My salad ended up being well over $20, which for me is just too much for lunch.

Good Mediterranean Food

By Samosababa |

Barcha means plentiful in Tunisian and that was certainly the case at our first dinner at this 11 month new Restaraunt. We started off with 8 appetizers the Labneh, Shishito peppers, Crushed Avacado, warm Ratatouille, Hummus, Bazlama, lamb meatballs and Merguez sausage. We ordered some of the appetizers again as we enjoyed them and was easy to share amongst the 6 of us. For entrees we had no appetite so we had the Lamb Shoulder Tagine with a side of Biryani and Eggplant &Potato Brik. For dessert we shared the Lemon Tart which was not very good the only disappointment in the whole dinner. Barcha celebrates its a one year anniversary on Nov16 and will have a big party and some new dishes and we are looking forward to a revisit

Mediterranean Small Plate Experience

By KarenandDale |

The atmosphere was very nice. The service excellent - Noah was great and made good recommendations. This is a made for sharing place. Only 5 entrees on the menu the rest small plate menu. We had about e writhing on the menu and all the food was good. Thought it was very pricy for some of the small plates. Otherwise food was very good!

Great restaurant!

By RSH611 |

We had dinner here, we were six people. Drinks and Appetizers were amazing. Lamb meat balls, hummus were great! Main dish of Tuna fish was great, must try. On side crisp potatoes is also very tasty. Cocktails are great too. All in all, great restaurant and reasonably priced. Service is very good.

Outstanding Eclectic Food

By Explore796204 |

Fabulous tapas with a Turkish bias - tried all the mezze with Turkish wine - liked the Manti, Croquettas, and Autumn salad the best.

Good night out

By NFitzdelfini |

We visited Barcha on our first night in the US. It was a great start to our holiday, a busy place, fun vibe, good food and wine, and an interesting cocktail list. Would definitely recommend for an easy, casual night.

Good but pricey.

By Chris F |

– I have been to Barcha twice this past month and had different experiences on each visit. The first visit was a business lunch and I was taken to Barcha restaurant for the occasion. We sat outside and it was comfortable with the heaters above us over each table. Lunch was really good with us ordering the Ahi Tuna Tartare and Turkish Manti dumplings to start off with and share. For my entre I had the Shawarma (veal & turkey) wrap that came with a salad. It was excellent and service was great too. On my second visit, I took my wife and were seated indoors. The tables were incredibly close and the place was packed. I was really surprised (seriously) that this was not against fire code. We ordered the Chicken & Manchego Croquettas to start and share. For the entre order, my wife had the rice place with chicken and I ordered a similar dish as before (the Shawarma wrap and salad but with chicken). Our starter came within 5 minutes but then our entre order was lost. We had waited an additional 40 minutes to before getting our entre order. The server was not around very much so it took a while to find out about our food. My wrap was good ($22) but my wife thought the rice plate was somewhat boring for $24. Our bill came to $65 and went to $75 with the tip. The second visit didn’t do if for me given the price of our $75 lunch and lack of space. I don’t think we’ll go back.

Crisp flavors

By flatfootfoodie |

Went to Barcha for a work lunch and was quite impressed. The food was fresh and flavorful at a price that didn't break the bank. I loved the modern twist on some of my mediterranean favorites. The decor is hip, casual and upscale with cool Moroccan ceiling lamps and friendly service. I will definitely be back.

Excellent food

By LarsieB |

Recently we ate at Barcha during our stay in San Francisco and were thoroughly impressed by the food that we ordered and ate. We arrived at the restaurant on a weekday evening around 6.30pm and there was about a 15-20 minute wait time, so we ordered some drinks and had these whilst waiting which was just fine to do. The dishes that we ordered and loved were the Hummus, Spicy Pork Turnover, Chicken Croquettes, Grilled Monterey Bay Calamari, Chickpea Falafel and Bazlama. All of these dishes were excellent and were shared amongst the four of us. For dessert we also ordered the Baklava and Meyer Lemon Tart these two desserts were okay but nothing amazing. We had two waiters serving our table, the main server was okay although we found him a little unfriendly and distracted, but the other server who seemed to be employed to refill our drinks and take away the dishes was extremely nice. Definitely try Barcha if you have the opportunity.

Fresh!

By GL726 |

Came here based on word of mouth recommendation. Very good! Had the beef filet kabobs which were quite fresh and prepared well. Not too noisy as some downtown restaurants can be, which is a nice surprise.

Fun party dinner

By c263 |

Seven of us dined last night at Barcha and if you are hungering for Square One, Joyce Goldstein's Middle Eastern inspired fusion restaurant of the 80's, consider dropping in here. You fortunately will not be served cinnamon in everything, but there is plenty to satisfy your desire for food if that region. The slow cooked lamb preparation could have come from Joyce's kitchen, same for the hummus, but there is much more on the broad list of appetizers to thrill you. To sample the much praised appetizer list we ordered all of them! Best of all are the chicken croquettes, followed by the Middle Eastern version of guacamole. Definitely skip the beef tartare, the kitchen needs to get another recipe. In main courses the chicken was fine, but he swordfish was over cooked. Everyone loved the place. Go with a gang and have a good time.

Try the semolina cake for dessert!

By nuyu2013 |

Ordered rotisserie chicken, grilled beef kebabs, swordfish and all was excellent. The dessert was very very good--have it with mint tea! Restaurant is located just off market street. Meat is not halal.

Over-priced, but good food

By Moleseyboy |

The food is good, but the service is over-bearing and the prices are way over the top for the quantity and quality. It trades on convenience and expense-account diners.

Exquisite

By Sam H |

I had dinner at Barcha in 2018. It was an excellent experience as the food was really well flavored. I had the lamb meatball, the muhammara and an adana kabab. All of them were excellent and the service was mostly attentive though it could have been better. I recommend the restaurant for a good Turkish culinary experience.

Lunch with a business colleague

By 655Denis |

Dropped in for a quick lunch time meal and meeting and the place was humming, I understand that is regular for lunchtimes. I had some sort of combo plate of lamb and shrimps - very tasty and I could not eat it all. Thoroughly enjoyed and this is a place to go back to and try other things. A bit noisy with everyone talking over each other so if you want to have a business meeting, maybe in the evening when it is quieter.

LOVE this Mediterranean Food Restaurant

By Kesslane |

Delicious! The Turkish bread and labneh were scrumptious, the shwarama sandwiches were great. Wonderful service and nice ambiance.

Excellent mezze plates

By Rajan M |

We had dinner here on Valentine's Day. This is a Mediterranean-styled restaurant - food from the entire region, i.e., Turkish, Moroccan, Greek, Lebanese (but not as much Italian or French). The mezze plates were fantastic - I would go back here specifically for any of them. The entrees were surprisingly disappointing. Because this was Valentine's day, they offered a prix fixe menu - was fairly impressive and extensive ; Nice decor with a cool-ish vibe,

Delicious and attentive

By Calidiva50 |

At the suggestion of a friend, we went pretty much around the corner from our Market Street office to Barcha. She was able to get a reservation at a high top. Wonderful waiter who too care of us with the right amount of attention. I ordered tomato soup and chicken shwarma with side salad and he suggested that I could have soup and shwarma so I did that. My friend had the orzo salad with lamb. She had this before but enjoyed it so much that she had it again. My lunch was delicious! ! Soup was dairy free yet hearty with a drizzle of oil. Sandwich was crispy on the outside and extremely flavorful. There is probably a ton of salt but you gotta live right? We had the Meyer lemon tart which was a good way to finish the meal. The crust of the was a bit thick for me and the portion could have been bigger. Filling was perfect. Definitely coming back soon!

Surprisingly Noteworthy

By BTBELP |

The atmosphere was not much (although given better weather, sitting outside would have been better). The staff was friendly and efficient. The menu needs some consultation despite as another review mentioned it looked like just another kebab shop. What was served however far exceeded my expectation! Great pumpkin side soup served with a Chicken Shawarma that was truly delicious and unlike any I have ever had. It was wrapped in a flatbread rather than a pita and was delicious. The soup was also note worthy. I would certainly come back!

Very good food and service

Very tasty. Loved salmon appetizer. Also like the chef's special but I would not order the "classic" again. I think this is a great place for lunch and it is not too expensive.

Service a 10, food…

Service was great, but was a little disappointed with the lack of more vegetarian options. The meat dishes looked great, but I opted for the farroush salad which was actually quite tasty. The hummus bowl with cheese was pretty, but was a strange combo. The adds muted the hummus. The falafel was a bit dry and bland. Overall it was just ok. If not for the great service I’d probably rate closer to a 3 star.

Very enjoyable.

This lovely restaurant is located near the new Salesforce tower, which is a quiet neighborhood at night. The decor evokes a blend of Mediterranean styles (Moroccan lanterns, Venetian mirror) but in a contemporary manner. Many of the tables are set along large windows, some also offer views of the kitchen flames or bar, which had a great ambience in the evening. The cocktails were delicious, as was our chosen carafe of Spanish wine. Our food was tasty, and our plates nicely presented. To start, we enjoyed sharing the manti, gulf prawns and lamb meatballs, hummus and muhammara. Our single complaint was that the ‘bread’ presented with the mezzes was rubbery and unsatisfying to use with the dips. After a chopped salad, we semi-shared the Shakshuka, Jidori Chicken, and two orders of Grilled Spiced Rack of Lamb. While tasty, among our group we felt the seasonings could have been even stronger! The service was great, welcoming and responsive. We lingered at our table, talking, too full to enjoy dessert or coffees, but the menu was tempting. Next time.... Note: While this area is probably very active daytime, in the evening it wasn’t bustling. The positive part of that was finding free street parking.
