On Par!

By Joseph R |

The steak is very good, no arguing about that question. There is, however, no significant discerable difference from the other reputable steakhouses. Del Frisco's, The Capital Grille, Morton's, Butcher and Singer all are on par in the same category. Great location in the Rittenhouse Square area. Close to nearby coffe shops, shopping (in general), and a gazebo-laden park area to walk off your dinner.

Best Steak I've Ever Had

By Sydney W. |

I'm not much of a seak person, but this was the best one I've ever had in my life. I am very specific on how I like my meat cooked, well-done, and they did it perfectly. My family also got the sliders, cheesesteak, and fish; everybody absolutely loved their meals. The service was positively amazing, our waiter was funny, nice, and quick. The hot fudge cake is a must: it was delicious!

Horrible experience- unusual for a Star restaurant but no one cared

By simmie17 |

We did not eat here as service was awful and walked out. This is to alert others. We were first given an awful table and asked to move. Out server was rude and insolent and could have cared less about us. I saw how other servers were treating guests. We walked out, telling the manager how awful the service was, and she could have cared less. I never experienced this before at a Star restaurant.

Dined at Barclay Prime with friends whom lived in the neighborhood.

By Bill V |

I would consider this restaurant close to a 'Five Star" winner. The facility was beautiful, the service staff was outstanding, and the food was excellent. At our friends suggestion we both had the "Tomahawk" steak which was really, really wonderful. We look forward to another visit!!

Great steaks but used to be better

By Peterson J |

Spent a lot of money on a dinner for three with a good bottle of red. Hadn’t been back to Barclay Prime in over a decade. Food was still pretty good, but I remember it to be better to be honest. Also they no longer offer the selection of steak knives to chose from. Apparently they kept being stolen and it cost them 30k usd to replace every year. I get that - but it was a clear differentiator and made the place feel special amongst other things. Now it’s just another steak house. Very good still, but no longer a standout.

AVERAGE

By NIONIOSAthens |

The place is dark , at a point that you cant read the menu. The menu itself small with limited selection.Had a l portion of king crab leg that was very small at 29 usd, and a tuna tartar so spicy that covered the taste. The tomahawk for two was just average but for 130usd it should be super. They should focus on the food more and not on the different types of knifes they offered... The Del Friskos was by far better.

Good but not five stars

By Charles V |

We trace extensively and I always strive to find the best in each local area. This restaurant has good food but not fantastic the wine list looked to be a 5 times multiple which I find too high and the waiter was just a bit shy of ignoring us. At this price point which we eat in almost daily I have higher expectations that what we produced. This said we may revisit next trip just to confirm and hope that they are able to rise to the occasion.

Best steakhouse in town

By Philly Food Phanatic |

I always come here when I’m in the mood for a steak. I love to go with a few people and share the butter poached lobster, a steak and a bunch of sides.

phenomenal great steak

By rsan100 |

Great ambiance - traditional steakhouse feel. The steak was extremely well aged and tender. Went with a couple of clients and everyone felt special.

Great food, great service.

By marcvtec |

We came here for my parents anniversary and they did a great job. We tried the 32 ounce tomahawk steak and it did not disappoint. Some of us also had the Dover sole, which was the best I have had outside of France. The desert was also incredible. The restaurant was also very sensitive to our allergies and took very good care of us all. Looking forward to our next visit at Barclay Prime.

Prime Steak, Excellent Service, Comfortable Environment

By Tracy M |

So, let's get the sticker shock out of the way. Yes, you will spend a wade here! So not the place you'll visit a couple times a week, but well worth a visit. Our server made our meal so nice. She was friendly and engaging. We had great conversation with her. The food is outstanding and should be at this price. The Bone in Filet Steak was very good, just as I orderd and very delicious, so tender! The rest of the table orderd Roasted Chicken, NY Strip and Salmon, truffle mac and cheese & Tater Tots for side. Everyone enjoyed their food and commented that it was very tasty. The dining room we sat in was not overly masculine and heavy wood grain. It was more a collison of a library and the 70's, with a touch of the Bardy Bunch, really neat, enjoyable and a tad funky.

Excellent service and very good food

By Nancy G |

First of all, our server Mellisa was wonderful. Smart, funny and helpful. The wine we chose, an Australian Chardonnay was wonderful, and reasonable at $70 per bottle. My husband and I split the wagyu sliders to start. They were wonderful. I had a soft shell crab special of the day next. It was tempura covered. It was good, but a bit expensive at $24. My husband had the wedge salad, which was very good. We had two sides with our main plates - the mushrooms and creamed spinich. Both very good. I had the scallops appt as my main. They were extraordinarily good. My husband had the lamb loin. It was done perfect. Our only complaint was that the coating was very salty. The ambiance of the dining room was very nice. A nearby foursome had a toddler with them however who screamed quite loudly and very often. Note to other diners: please leave young children at home. It really was disrespectful to fellow diners.

Best of the best

This is fine dining at its very finest! The staff is the most professional and the best I have ever had in any restaurant. The food is perfect and the portions are generous!

Great Experience

By mike4867 |

I really enjoy the upscale atmosphere with a casual twist. Jeans are just as welcome as suits. The setting is luxury, yet comfortable. The food is good, as well. Pricey, but well worth the total experience, the bartenders are top notch and this place is sure to bring a sense of nostalgia.

Unique steakhouse - best in philly

By Gophillies20 |

One of the only non-chain steakhouses in Philadelphia. The result? Perfect service and delicious cooked-to-perfect steaks. Atmosphere? Perfect! Go.

A Wagyu Wonder

By Lori G |

My oh my! First time to have wagyu and it's well worth it. Hopefully I never find myself requesting my last meal, but if I do, it'll be the Wagyu New York Strip from Barclay Prime. Also had the truffle whipped potatoes and mushrooms. Amazing! The service was impeccable. Our server was Jessica Hahn and she was fabulous. It was our anniversary and they even brought out a dessert with a Happy Anniversary in chocolate syrup on the plate. Be prepare to make a reservation ahead and if you order Wagyu, be prepared for a big price tag. It's worth it though. You can dress up super nice, business casual, or even all the way casual. I think business casual is best.

Casual elegance

By DBLJAM |

We started with cocktails in the bar and they had top shelf liquors. We had rum old fashions. The tables were large with comfortable deep seating. Atmosphere was very nice and the service was fast and attentive all night. Seafood tower was fresh and varied. Order the caviar separately. We had 2 different steaks and a fish. Everyone was very happy with the cook of their entree. Sides were equally well prepared. Steak sears and temps were perfect. The cellar has some unique choices and better bottles were not over priced. Even the desserts were interesting. We had a great time dining.

Best Steakhouse in Philadelphia

By NSL14 |

The steakhouse has both great steaks and marvelous seafood. I had rack of lamb which was outstanding and cooked perfectly. My wife had their jumbo lump crabcake lemon aioli which she said was wonderful. I had a lobster bisque first which was outstanding and my wife's baby beet salad was fresh and first rate. All the food was beautifully seasoned which you don't get on every dish at a meal, even at top restaurants. The service was outstanding. I hate service staff that hovers. They didn't, but were there every time we needed them. I also don't like service staff that interrupts repeatedly to find out if everything is okay or that clears the table before everyone is done. No problems on that account either. It was a special occasion for our dinner and the restaurant gave us a wonderful complementary desert surprise. Barclay Prime is one of the outstanding locations in the US for steaks and seafood. I don't say that lightly.

Anniversary Dinner

By Paul S |

My wife and I visited Barclays Prime on Sept 24th to celebrate our Anniversary. The dining room is beautiful. The entire experience was memorable. Our drinks were great; the service was fantastic, and the food was delicious. My wife had lamb chops and I had the ribeye steak. All in all it was a wonderful night. We will be back.

A fabulous evening with awesome food

By 302seetheworld |

My son wanted steak for his birthday dinner so off we went to Barclays Prime for the wagyu beef. My favorite part was the wagyu cheesesteak that we got to split as an appetizer for $95. (It’s normally $120 but we got it without the half bottle of champagne that comes with it.) We each had different cuts of the wagyu beef and while both were excellent, I liked the NY strip better than his filet. The mashed potatoes were incredible and the broccoli was tasty in the garlic sauté. My son’s flourless chocolate cake made a perfect birthday cake even though he ended up eating most of my delightful cheesecake as well. Kudos to the sommelier for suggesting the perfect bottle of South African wine to set the flavors of the meal off perfectly. And our waiter was perfect. Friendly, attentive but he didn’t stalk. The only reason it’s not five stars is that the drink I had in the bar while waiting for my son to arrive didn’t taste anything like a cosmo, was served in a hurry, after it took forever to get someone to come to the table. It started the night out in a downer place but once we got to the dining room all was forgiven. We will be back. I’m craving the cheesesteak already.

S.A.D.

By pookala |

S.A.D. = Such A Disappointment. Last year, I had a wonderful meal at Barclay Prime. It was a 4 1/2* review. Feel free to read it. This past weekend, regretfully, the only part of my meal that I enjoyed was the warm popover with butter. So while the music wasn't overwhelming (thank you), the food was average. Our steaks, both filet and sirloin were not great quality, tough(!) the sides of whipped potatoes and creamed spinach were rich with lots of butter and cream but not that tasty. The hamachi crudo app had an avalanche of crispy whatever on top to make up for the paucity of fish. Desserts were okay but nothing special. Lastly, our server was bad. Cold, uninformative and argumentative. This would have been a three star review but our front of the house experience was so dismal I took away another star. By the way, management, you might want to remind the reception desk to say good night to guests upon departure. It's only good manners. Bill for 4 with 4 apps, 2 sides, 4 mains, 3 desserts, 3 glasses of wine, 1 cocktail and 1 beer? $530. So at approximately $130 per person I'd have to describe this meal as poor value for the money.

More than an up market steakhouse

By sweetiesPennsylvania |

A Stephen Starr restaurant on Rittenhouse Square, dark bar and sleek modern dining room.Starr formula in full view;Good Service,Popular relatively simple dishes expertly prepared ,high prices and a few gimmicks, like being offered a selection of knives with which to eat one’s steak.Ambient aroma of caramelized beef fat.Tomahawk ribeye and rack of lamb superb and cooked as ordered.Very good options outside of the typical steakhouse repertoire including grilled salmon, yellowtail carpaccio, oysters and salads.Extensive choice of wines and cocktails.Would never have predicted I would like it.I did.

Great service, food, and ambiance

By Larry S |

Beautiful restaurant with incredible menu--lamb chops were truly excellent. Service also superb. I felt cold inside the restaurant even with a sweater, and the seating was a little more appropriate for a lounge than a sit-down dinner (had to lean forward a lot), but overall, great experience.

Barclay Subprime

By Ian C |

Excited to dine at Barclay Prime via reservation 1-month in advance. Both of us ordered medium-well Ribeye, augratin potatoes, and glazed corn. Doneness of steaks was inconsitent, with mine thoroughly cooked and hot, perfect color, juiciness, and internal temperature. My girlfriend is currently squirting hers our the rear as I type this. I can hear it happening. Anyway, her steak was completely cooled in spite of being served the same time I was. Corn was delicious, potatoes were good but I've had much more savory at home via Pioneer Woman's recipes. BEST ESPRESSO MARTINI ON EARTH. Cocktails are really good. Banana creme brulee was a perfectly rich custard with burnt creamy layers of caramelized sugar. Choco cake sauce was truffly/mushroomy.

GREAT STEAKS

By Robert R |

this is like a theme i always feel like i am rating expensive Steak places and this is a great one ...flawless in service and taste ....

Overpriced with hit and miss service.

By JDMi |

While the food at Barclay's Prime is fine, it doesn't overwhelm you - especially considering the very HIGH prices. The service, however, was very slow and poor. We waited over 15 minutes just to order our pre dinner drinks and the service did not improve much from there. There are too many other good steakhouses for me to ever return to Barclay's.

Great service, food & atmosphere

By Traveler724365 |

Always great to dine here, never had an unpleasant experience to date. Friendly customer oriented & quality details like every dining location should have! Most places will fluctuate (Good days & bad days) providing quality food, service & ambiance but here it has always been dependable & exceptionally good! Thank you!

Amazing food and service!

By Frankie01225 |

We are your typical foodie who eats at all the top restaurants in the United States. I came into Barclay Prime with high expectations and they delivered! I'll highlight the service and the meal, as well as, we will be back again! Dinner for two will run $400. Chris our waiter was great for service truly excellent. We had the Hamachi Crudo (yellow tail and avocado) with Seared Diver Scallops to start. I would say both these appetizers are a must, they were delicious. For the main course we went for the dry aged ribeye and the 3 lbs lobster which was excellent. If I had a little extra to spend probably would have went for the Wagyu. Sides we had the roasted carrots with mashed potatoes. Just a perfect meal all around.

worth it

By lupusdr |

service 음식 서비스 와인 모두 훌륭함 비싸지만 값어치 있음. 유럽의 왠만한 미쉘린 식당보다 맛남. 만석에 다들 얘기하느라 그리 조용한 분위기는 아니지만 대화는 가능함. food wine all second to none as far as i know. better than michelin stars in europe. worth the price. caveat is not that quiet since all seats are full and everybody was talking somehow.

Amazing Wagyu Selections!

By Nicole K |

Outstanding restaurant for steak, cocktails, and anything with Wagyu. The Wagyu cheesesteak was out of this world, and the service was excellent. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu!!

Spectacular

By Frank T |

Food atmosphere and service spectacular. This was not my first visit and won't be my last. Steaks and sole are amazing, raw bar and salads on point. The bread service is dangerous, you could go just for that.

Couldn't tell you, never got past ordering the bottle of wine!

By Patricia L |

We were very excited about eating here for our stay in Philly for our Anniversary. We are definitely lovers of steak and even have our own dry ager!. But, it's always better when professionals dry age and cook the steak for you. We had made a reservation about a week before and showed up right on time if not early. We were seated very quickly and a waitress came by shortly after and took our drink order. We were planning on ordering some oysters and a salad before some very expensive steaks and so ordered a bottle of wine (definitely not the most expensive - but a bottle nonetheless). The seating was outdoors and was nice, but we waited and waited. There were maybe 10 outdoor tables but only half were full, we waited for over 20 minutes and then just left. We would have spent lots of money, we left spending no money. We went next door and spent a quarter of what we would have spent there but the food was good and we left full and satisfied and with more money in our pockets. Food can only be enjoyed if you are there to enjoy it. It seems like some of the staff does not get this and also does not care about making money...would have been a very large tip!

Benjamin Franklin's Favorite Steakhouse

By Merlin C |

There are better steaks in the world and there is better service somewhere and probably a nicer setting exists in some far off land, but you will be hard pressed to find those things. I came here with my dad and brother. We shared three different cuts and they sliced them for us and presented the entire meal on a cutting board with all our sides. Everything was phenomenal. Highly encourage you to the bread basket hard. In regards to the price: excellence does not come cheap, nor should it. If you are willing to spend the money and eat and drink like you're Gregg Popavich visiting town for a Sixers game then please come here and enjoy. If you're trying to save money--why are you visiting the nicest steakhouse in Philly? Old Ben loved this place and you will too.

No wonder they were rated best steakhouse on Pennsylvania

By Bill M |

I like steak. My doctor does not necessarily like that I like steak. I have been fortunate to dine in some great steakhouses over the years. Boston, Providence, Baltimore, Kansas City, Dallas, Montreal, Orlando to name a few cities. Having experienced Barclay's i can definitely say the proof is on the plate. There may be more elegantly appointed venues, or more traditionally clad staff, but the quality of the service, and the exceptional food, make this the place for steak in Philadelphia. Pricing is comparable to the better known chains so why go to them. This is the steak, and steakhouse that will be the standard against which I judge all others.

Amazing service

Amazing service & steaks are the best in the city. The staff is very attentive. It is fine dining at its best

Fabulous Bday Dinner

By Christopher J. Lopatin Sr. |

What a fabulous Birthday Dinner for my wife. The steaks were excellent!!! Cooked perfectly. I had the New York strip Med/Well it was delicious. My wife had the Ribeye also cooked Med/Well cooked perfectly. We shared the Oysters on the half shell. She also had the Crisp green salad that was very fresh. The only reason I gave them four stars and not five is because I asked for the loaded baked potato and I was informed by our server that they didn’t have any more baked potatoes. It was a little disappointing seeing how that’s my favorite go to is the baked potato with my steak. Speaking of the server, he was excellent and I mean fabulous. Gabe was wonderful to us. Fast and timely with everything. He kept our drinks full and the food rolled out with perfect timing one dish after the other. The atmosphere was was laid back like sitting in your living room very relaxing but still had an upscale feeling at the same time. The lighting was nice for a romantic Bday dinner with my beautiful wife. We will definitely be revisiting Barclay in the near future. As for prices I felt very reasonable for the quality we received all the way from the entrance to the exit of our dinner. Bravo Barclay you made it an impressive Birthday dinner for my wife and myself. Thank you and again thanks Gabe you were fantastic

Nice experience

Certainly not cheap but we had a delicious melt in your mouth steak. Truffle Mac and cheese also very good. Nice evening out for a special occasion in a pleasant atmosphere and service.

Love this restaurant

By Lauren H |

There are so so many places to eat in Philadelphia but this is hands down one of my very favorite. It's a classic. The restaurant front is modest and you may walk by it if you're not careful. The small bar and surrounding area is dark and cozy. The floor leading into the dining room is black and white titles, every time we visit this sticks out to me because it's simple and clean and a contrast to the dining room. No matter how many people are in there it's always buzzing pretty loud but you can never make out someone else's conversation. It looks like a modern library with shiny wood bookcases, beautiful marble accents, if you look up past your server you see the huge glittery dimmed chandeliers and intricate moldings; its lovely. The service is always amazing - knowledgeable, curtious, and they all work well together. The food lives up to every expectation. My husband loves steak so that's what we get as our entrees, most recently had the porterhouse steak cooked perfectly medium and delicious - needs no additional seasoning. The mashed potatoe side and fried artichokes were great but NOT to be over shadowed by the most amazing popover you'll ever eat, seriously ask for 2, and don't share. Even the butter is better than regular butter. We also had the lobster bisque, scallops, and tuna & watermelon salad for apps - I'd recommend all of them. They also have a really nice wine list and you can get some 1/2 bottles, and the have Cakebread chardonnay which might not go with steak but it's one of my favorites! Also if you have room to splurge you HAVE to try the cocktail that is like an old fashion but served in a martini glass, it was amazing but I can't remember the name, I do remember it was $28. It's only a special occasions spot for us but it's a real treat to dine here, from the food & drinks to the atmosphere to the service, never disappoints! Our favorite steakhouse anywhere.

Simply Magnificent

By PhillyShaney |

I think many would agree that Barclay Prime is one of the best restaurants in Philadelphia! I am known to enjoy a fancy dinner and this one has been long overdue especially with the pandemic intruding on dining out indoors over the past few years! The highlights were ‘EVERYTHING’! From start to finish! The service The drinks The food My recommendations are: The Truffle Mac & Cheese and Scallops-both were exquisite! What more is there to say-having a night out at a premier restaurant in the City is what great memories are all about!

Exceeded expectations twice

By Familylove24 |

My family of 4 dined at Barclays Prime in both September of 2016 and again this month (Feb 2017). We found the resteraunt from trip advisor reviews and were not disappointed. The ambiance is great with comfortable chairs and sofas to sit on while you are dining. Dim lighting is nice too. Romantic if you are looking for that but not overly so- lots of larger groups dining too. Service was spectacular but not overwhelming. If we needed anything we received it promptly. Food was amazing! From the pop over rolls to the truffle pasta to of course the steak - everything was amazing. We used the valet parking 1 block up. Expensive but worth it. Not sure what else to say except it was money well spent and I can not wait to go back again!!!

an excellent surprise

By Rodrigo S |

time to time we choose random restaurants to try new experiences , today Im really glad with our choose, the lamb and filete mignon were awesom, good wine list but the cherry top was the attention, thanks to Mat Tonelli for a wonderful evening,

Disappointing and Overpriced Steak House

By larryderm |

We hadn't been here in many years, and I guess with good reason. The food is exorbitantly priced with baked potatoes at $15 as an example. The crab cakes were mediocre, and the filet at $45 was yuk. A baked potato was $15, even if large. The waitress was supercilious and demeaning. Not having salt and pepper on the table is uncalled for. Charging four dollars for steak sauce, even if the charge was removed from the bill on complaint, is insulting. Definitely not worth a second visit for high prices and mediocre food. Maybe, we missed the charm that was supposed be part of the deal.

Excellent

Excellent restaurant. Nice place, decoration, service and food. There is nothing bad to say. Excellent in the essence of the word.

Steak and So Much More

By Jason E |

I have been enjoying the fine cuisine at Barclay Prime for just over a year now. I met a great mixologist (Ruben) at Parc who informed me he was heading to Barclay Prime. He told me to stop in, as I had never been there. I am so glad I did! The food here is absolutely incredible! Mouth-watering steak, cooked perfectly every time. From the seasoning to the light crust, I have to say, Barclay Prime is the best steak in the city. The sides are just as delicious. Ruben has often made recommendations, including my favorites, Potatoes Gratin and the crab cakes. I often sit at the bar for dinner, and by doing so, I have learned more about wines, spirits, and food. Ruben has always gone out of his way to make me and my friends comfortable and well-attended to. The service here is exemplary. All of the staff at Barclay Prime are kind and welcoming and that, along with the great food, makes Barclay Prime one of the best restaurants in Philly! Ruben, Eddie, Darby, Bill and so many others are a testament to great service, and a dining experience you won’t soon forget. Be sure to check it out!

Second visit, did not disappoint

By Karen C |

This is a true five star restaurant in terms of price, décor, service and most of all, quality of food. It was our second visit, made even better as we had another couple join us (these places are just more fun with other people included). The décor was unusual and very comfortable. The main dining room looks somewhat like a giant living room with many sofas, comfy chairs and tables. Even the unisex bathroom is interesting. (The stalls are private, but the sink area is the same for both; think of the office bathroom in Ally McBeal, only fancier). The wait staff does an excellent job describing the menu and specials. It is a little dark, and some of us were using the flashlight feature on our cell phones to see the menu. Each couple shared a salad, and we each had some kind of steak, as that's what Barclay Prime is well known for. The steaks did not disappoint. They were prepared to perfection, each grilled to the requested temperature (medium rare was truly medium rare, not raw nor medium). Also, we each got to choose a custom knife, Granted, it's just a gimmick, but it's an enjoyable one. The NY Strip Steak was, well, perfect. The guys finished off their meals with a fine port, and we women went for dessert. If you're going to have calories, the desserts there are well worth it. I don't remember exactly what I had, but it involved chocolate and was worth every bite. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable meal, well worth the cost!

Delicious Aged Beef!

By John P |

It was our first time to Barclay Prime. It is incredibly dark inside, which, to me and my husband, was annoying. However, the host station was manned with lovely people. We were seated at what appeared to be a great table. My husband was seated against the wall, which he said was quite comfortable (as he suffers from a disc condition). However, I sat in the very avant-garde seat. It was great for about 20 minutes. Then, my back began to hurt and it was no longer comfortable. The waiter was attentive. The food was very good. However, comparing to other steak houses in the area, I would not rate it as high on the service level. For the price of dinner, I just have come to expect nothing less than superior service.

We had a wonderful meal. Glatt

By SMKRVA |

We had a wonderful meal. Glatt kosher steak is a real treat that we can’t get in out hometown. Bronzino was delicious. Spinach, shoestring onions and broccolini.

Amazing Steak!!

This was by far the best steak I have ever had. Went for my birthday an wow can't wait to go back. Extremely nice decor and all the food was better than expected!

Consistency has amazing service and food

Amazing dinner with excellent service. This is easily the best steakhouse in Philadelphia which has many great choices and also one of the best in the country.

Great Food, Great Service, Great Atmosphere

By Dwight F |

We chose Barclay Prime as the location of a send-off dinner for our Son who is entering the Navy. We had eaten here once before in early 2016 and were quite impressed. Where to start: Everything from our server Eric first greeting us, to the final desert course was truly excellent. Service was attentive without being over bearing. We lingered over our meal in conversation and did not feel rushed by management even though the restaurant became quite busy. They even included a "Good Luck" desert for our Son as a token of the restaurant's appreciation. The food: The steaks were awesome! Two of us had the dry aged rib eyes, one a filet and I ordered the Wagyu top cap. Additionally, I ordered the 3 lb. butter poached lobster for the table - indescribable! Of particular note was the restaurant's willingness to accommodate my Daughter-in-Law who suffers from Celiacs Disease. A separate menu was provided to her, which include most of the main menu items. Truly considerate. I look forward to my next visit to Philly and to Barclay Prime!

SLOW

By bazoogler |

The drinks and food were exceptional (except for the lobster) but the service was slower than I remember which really ruined an otherwise nice Saturday. Everything from the seating to the apps to the meal and desert were way too long of a wait. Steak was great and cooked perfectly.

Awesome But Pricey Meal

By Ok Connie L |

Met friends for dinner. Nice Decor, comfy seats and low lighting. Service was wonderful but not intrusive. The four of us shared three entrees. For Starters we had the lobster bisque. It had nice pieces of lobster. Complementary popovers were awesome. We shared the lobster in butter, lamb chops and wagyu filet. Everything tasted great. We were full so we only shared one dessert was was good. Two bottles of red wine. The second was better - I think it was called Tilley from California. Wonderful Dinner from start to finish. Only downside was the bill. Very expensive.

Fantastic

Absolutely will be back to this great restaurant. Everything about it is great. Ambiance, comfort, food and service. Try it!!

Expensive, good food, nice ambience and great service

By karen m |

This is a very nice restaurant for a nice dinner with your honey or another couple. Beautiful area, close parking and wonderful service. The food was good..it is steakhouse with a variety of sides. Pricey but nice for a special dinner out

Amazing Dinner with Family

By boniwolf |

The dining area is absolutely beautiful. Our waiter was a class act and the food was off the charts flavorful and delicious. We started with the Wedge with iceberg, neuske bacon, point reyes bleu cheese and it was perfection followed by the Rib Eye (prime 40 day dry-aged). It was so big I split it with my daughter and her dad had the New York Strip and requested it to be served Au Poivre (only an extra $4) Everything was a 10.

An outstanding experience

By deba g |

I would consider the top 3 places in the country to dine in. Amazing and out of the world experience, both in quality and ambience.

Might be Better with Smaller Group

By Tiffany C |

This is our 7th or 8th visit to Barclay. It is our number one, favorite steak restaurant in Philadelphia. This past visit, we had our largest party, with a table for 10 adults. Two of our friends, were eating at Barclay for the first time. Unfortunately, 3 of us had steaks that were overcooked. We always order medium rare, and typically the steak is cooked exactly medium rare. I used to think that chefs would prefer to undercook a steak because it is easier to take it back and cook it longer, but you can't undo an overcooked steak. I was thinking that there were just too many steaks trying to be cooked at the same time, and some of us just ended up with overcooked steak. All of our other food was good, and the service were perfect as usual. We were in the restaurant for over 3 hours though. It took way too long from entree to dessert (about an hour) in between. Not that I like to feel rushed, but we were literally sitting with nothing in front of us (no dessert menus) for over 30 minutes. Definitely not our best visit, but we will still go back because I know Barclay can do better!

It's Been Too Long

By cjbesq |

It has probably been 6 or 8 years since we last dined here. I'm not sure why that is, but I can guarantee that won't happen again. What an incredible experience we had. The food and service were top notch and the ambiance is still very nice. Our server, Erin, was excellen - a real professional. She was both attentive and helpful - making some wonderful recommendations. Our party of 4 shared appitizers and mains - creating with Erin's advice and assistance - a steak "tasting menu." which included a Japanese Waygu steak, 2 American Waygu steaks and a dry aged ribeye. It is the first time in my life that I thought a dry aged ribeye was only "eh." In fairness, had I only had the ribeye, I would have thought it was delicious. However, when up against a Japanese Wagyu Olive Striplion and an American Waygy rib cap, the ribeye was bottom of the pack. I believe the Olive Striploin was the best steak (probably the best piece of meat) I have ever had in my life. Erin said she sometimes calls it "meat butter." That's not far from true. It will certianly not be years before my next visit.

A 70 th birthday celebration.

By 209dhg |

We celebrated a family member’s 70th birthday there. A fantastic experience. Our part ranged in age from 13 to 71. Everyone was able to find menu items to eat. Gabe our server did an outstanding job. The food was exquisitely prepared. We spent almost three hours there. Staff from the hostess stand to the sommelier were exceptionally polite and helpful. Kudos to you all.

Amazing Steakhouse and Experience!

By EricDiaz007 |

Barclay Prime is my favorite Steakhouse in Rittenhouse Square, Philadelphia, although the prices are not for the faint of heart. If you have been to Peter Luger's in New York City, you will love Barclay Prime. When you enter and are greeted by the host, get ready for the experience of a lifetime. As you sit to review and contemplate the menu, the very knowledgeable wait staff has excellent suggestions depending upon your preferences and can pair the proper wine, with the in-house sommelier's recommendations. The waiter comes to you with a box and asks you to choose a weapon for the evening, a steak knife from various artisan's worldwide, each representing a different country such as Germany, Argentina, Japan etc. The will cater to you hand and foot even cutting the steak, in my case Wagyu in a butterfly pattern that offered an excellent visual presentation. I have had too many choices to recommend one but stick to the Wagyu Steak and you will not go wrong. Have taken clients and will continue to frequent this restaurant when in town for meetings.

Very Fancy

By CaitL |

This was one of the fanciest meals I have ever had. The restaurant was fabulous about my gluten allergy. I got the lemon fish (I forget what kind, doesn't matter it was great) and their GF chocolate cake. The best part was we got to pick our own steak knives from around the world ( soooo extra but sooo cool).

*****4 1/2 Stars*****

By pookala |

Just experienced a wonderful pre-orchestra meal in Barclay Prime's comfortable yet chic mid century dining room dripping with oversized crystal chandeliers. It's a modern American romantic atmosphere done well. If management is reading this review please, I beg you, turn down the music. The steaks are the obvious stars. My husband loves their filet with the peppercorn sauce; personally I prefer their New York 14oz strip steak with no sauce at all, the flavor is that perfect. Our party of four had a kale salad (disappointingly too much lemon with not enough other flavors or textures to cut through the swamp of citrus), lobster bisque, and 2 wedge salads. We also decided to share an order of cacio pepe pasta served with truffles, which was spectacular and worth its cost. Sides were a little disappointing. I'm just not a fan of their creamed spinach, I think its too heavy on the cream & the spinach flavor doesn't come through. Butterball potatoes were fine but not exceptional and the accompanying aioli sauce, was to my mind, overkill. We split two desserts, a vanilla lemon creme brulee and a black tie parfait. Both desserts were good and rich enough for sharing. Portions are large with lots of choices for those who would prefer seafood. There can be a hefty price tag at the end of the night; but I think you could easily skip the appetizers, have steaks and a side, split a dessert and you would have an excellent meal at a more affordable cost. Service is professional and efficient without being cold. We had a problem with one of our cocktails and discreetly mentioned this to our waiter, just said it was unbalanced in flavor. He removed it from the bill without our asking which is one of the best ways to ensure your customer's satisfaction and a return visit.

The best steakhouse, ever.

By jlynjack |

Forget Peter Lugers, this is the best steak house ever. Don't even question the choice on where to eat tonight. Eat here. I had the 20 oz bone in steak, perfect, the scallops, delectable and a bite of the cheesesteak, heaven. You won't regret a thing.

Amazing....and expensive

By Jim K |

Was in Philly for the Flower Show and was able to visit with my niece last minute. We met for a drink and decided to go to Barclay Prime, arriving just after 9pm on Sunday night. The décor is retro-chic and the place was nearly full. We were quickly shown to our table and settled into our low, comfortable chairs. We ordered two specialty cocktails while we scanned the menu. Our creatively concocted drinks arrived and we ordered a custom seafood platter, split a chopped wedge salad, and the 50-day-aged, 50oz Tomahawk, Pennsylvania Beef, Rib-eye, to share. We also ordered a bottle of one of the cheaper wines on the overpriced list. The seafood arrived and the mix of east and west coast oysters was fresh, plump briny and delicious. The lobster was firm and sweet and the make was luscious. After our salad the AMAZING 50oz steak arrived, perfectly rare. The steak was well marbled with slight gamey flavor from the aging. Delicious, we ate 2/3rds of it with my niece taking the remainder of the steak and sides (mac-and-cheese and roasted Brussel sprouts, both delicious) home. The service throughout the meal was terrific with our waited both charming and hilarious. Definitely a place to celebrate something special.

Steak Night

By MEspree |

Very disappointed.... keeping brief, ordered Medium Rare and got a dry medium steak. Offered to re-cook but timing with date nix offer to waive charge insult... learned my lesson. Never again

Overpriced. Salty food. Not worth it.

By Justine Paraico |

We went here for a dinner date on our trip to Philly at around 9:30 PM. Called the restaurant for reservation and they got us a seat after maybe 30 mins or less (which is good) cause we called late too. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice, very cozy and sort of romantic but it could get really loud in there when it’s packed. Giving it 2 stars for the ambiance and for the very nice staff. However, the food was bad. The only thing I liked there is the complimentary warm popover with butter (Lol seriously). Everything else was too salty, we had lobster bisque, steak, chicken, brocolli and onion strings and they were all salty. Steak was too dry, the brocolli was burnt. It was just really bad. Never going back to that restaurant again.

Solo dining

By Teri R |

Excellent service and food. I dined alone and let them know it was my birthday. My experience dining alone is not always pleasant but this staff went above and beyond. Even brought me a small surprise treat for dessert.

Overpriced, overrated, disappointing

By Rosetwig |

Two couples arranged dinner, planning a special event celebrating the birthday of one of us, and a return to fine dining after the pandemic. Sadly, there was nothing special but the prices. Even so- so food can be made delightful by gracious service, but we waited 30 minutes before anyone even took the appetizer order. The fresh oysters were outstanding, tater tots a fun side and the truffle Mac and cheese delicious. But the steaks were so overly crusted in their signature char seasoning that the taste of the high quality beef was obscured. In the end, it was Ok, but when dinner for 4 is well over $600, just Ok doesn’t cut it. As for the celebration? The waiter muttered Happy Birthday as he handed us the check.

Attentive To Detail

By Von1234 |

Very good food, had the Filet Mignon could cut with a fork if you wanted to. The waiters and waitresses made sure your glass and plates wee taking care of. I went there 2 nights in a row. They remembered my name from the previous night. I took Lyft down there which was not a problem but taking Lyft home was a problem both nights. Each night the drivers had a problem of locating the restaurant. I received a call from drivers of my location. I had to actually had to give a discription of the building. Since the restaurant is a bit bold with gold, the drivers could locate me.

Best filet mignon!

By BruinsFanNJ |

I have had plenty of filet mignon some good and some so so and there are bad ones out there. This place served the best filet mignon I have ever had. The salmon was very fresh. The side dishes can be salty. Desserts were okay. Service was excellent.

It's a steakhouse so order the steak.

By emistruth |

Barclay is a beautiful space, tastefully decorated and inviting. As I try to eat as little meat as possible when I ordered the scallops which were recommended by the server. They were slimy and tasteless. My daughter ordered the 60 dollar Dover sole which she loved but was very salty and decidedly unlovely. My 13 year old son's filet was absolutely delicious, as good as Jeff Ruby's Precinct in Cincinnati which is the best I have eaten. If I ever return I will have to eat beef and avoid the non-meat alternatives. It's quite pricy as well. The least interesting Steven Starr restaurant in my opinion.

No better restaurant

By Zinzan6 |

My wife and I were staying in the city for one evening and our concierge recommended and booked the restaurant stating it is the best steak restaurant in the city. We arrived around 9, seated immediately and immediately felt at home. The wait staff were a great balance of informal and formal, offering recommendations and chatting about the city. We had the steak and the lobster, and the concierge was true to his word. Days later my wife and I are still talking about how good it was. The restaurant is beyond criticism. I'd put this in my top ten ever and am already working out how I can get back to Philly, just to visit the Barclay Prime. I'd confirm a booking here before booking a hotel room. Treat yourself and book at the first opportunity.

Trendy and Classy

By Car Fi |

Beautiful ambience and decoration. Classy, trendy, inviting. Menu is precise and above average. The quality of the aged meat is remarkable. Quality of the service is second to none. Wine list is also well above average.

Crab Cake snob meets her match

By Barbara E |

You don't have to dress up for Barclay Prime, but we did, and it just made our dinner that much nicer. I had a crab cake which rivaled any major work of art & my partner had lamb, which effectively silenced all conversation for a few minutes as he savored the layers of flavors his seemingly simple dish contained. The waitstaff was excellent. The wine list was lengthy and nuanced. And the atmosphere is just what you'd look for in a fine-dining steakhouse - I know some of the online photos show a bright, animated space, but at night, the lights are low and the room glows. We'll definitely visit them again.

Phenomenal Foodgasmic Experience!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By Trek62764649187 |

I dined there last evening, a Monday at 7:30pm. It was opulent but not decadent or pretentious in decor. My employee New Year's dinner, a table for 15, was held in the main dining room, I think. Now for the real scoop. I had 2 Pink Dove cocktails. Everyone had a variety of drinks, wine and even mocktails. We shared & tasted others' choices. They all were tasty and POTENT while not making you pass out or stupid drunk. APPETIZERS: *Black Truffle Wagyu Cheesesteak-YUUUUMMMMMILIOUS!!!!!!! *Raw Bar with Oysters, Shrimp, Tuna and other delicacies I didn't know but many enjoyed. *BUTTER POACHED LOBSTER- FOOOOOOOOODGASM!!!!!!!!!!!! *Cesar salad- was light yet rustic and flavorful with chunks of fresh ingredients *Hot Baked Rolls with creamy whipped butter- crispy, flaky, light, wonderful ENTREES: Chilean Sea Bass Ribeye Porterhouse Bone Marrow Mac&Cheese, creamy potatoes, light crunchy string onions, fresh sauteed mushrooms............. I'm not gonna lie, we all became GLUTTONS and GOURMANDS. It was all so very decadent and delicious. It was special, a true upscale dining experience. Most of us, including myself, were stuffed and said no dessert......BUT then the banana creme brule, the white orange cloud of fluffy sweetness, the silky smooth chocolate mousse with cherries in the center and the pecan cheesecake came out?!?!?!?! We all passed around spoons and plates and went for it!!!! What the hey, you only live once and most of us besides the generous owners were ever going to visit this place again, so we all ate like it was our last meal on Earth. Actually, it tasted like a meal with friends in Heaven. GO TO THIS RESTAURANT AND INGULGE YOURSELF IN A ONE OF A KIND EXPERIENCE.

Dinner with Friends

By Karen |

The atmosphere is wonderful. However, the restaurant seemed understaff last night. Only one bartender for the bar and fully occupied restaurant, a longer than normal wait for drinks in both the bar and restaurant. Never had a Bloody Mary not made with tomato juice, celery stalk or olive. Waited more than 20 minutes to put in appetizer and dinner order. Lobster bisque soup and colossal jumbo shrimp were okay. Loved the side dishes, bread and of course the steak. Steak cooked to perfection. Desserts over priced and again had to wait long for coffee and after dinner drinks. Total price of dinner in no way worth the food, drinks, desserts and lack of service.

Delicious and comfortable dinner for 3

By cob2 |

... on an early Tuesday evening. We started with the chopped salad and entrees of butter poached lobster and tomahawk ribeye(split bt 2) with sides of roasted broccoli and Kenneth Square mushrooms. Companions enjoyed the beef ( not for me). I had the lobster,3lb shelled and delicious. Portion was generous enough for leftovers. Jeff was attentive and friendly without the stuffiness one might expect. In fact, everyone we encountered was low-key knowledgeable and welcoming. Would return again!

Great experience

By Dallas D |

Came in with a friend and started with cocktails in the lounge area. I had the Dixie Howl which was great. After being sat our server arrived and went over the specials and we ordered a bottle of wine. We started with the colossal shrimp cocktail, and the cheesesteak. For our main entree we opted for the special which was an aged tomahawk ribeye. For dessert we had cinnamon roll bread pudding. The cheesesteak was phenomenal and well worth the price tag. I’ll be stopping in just for that on my next visit. The ribeye was delicious all on its own and was perfectly complimented by a dry red wine. Overall, the service, food and atmosphere were all phenomenally. There is only one restroom though, confused me a bit.

Delicious food in a great atmosphere

By KWF123 |

If you're looking for a sophisticated yet comfortable restaurant with a warm, clubby feel and the most delicious food in a great location - this is for you. The interior is dark but in a soothing, welcoming way and the modern take on a gentleman's club/library feel adds to the atmosphere. The service is excellent and the food really delicious - and don't be fooled by the fact that it's known for the best steaks around because the menu has many other non-bovine choices.

Amazing, must visit

By RayHigdon |

I'd heard of this years ago and been wanting to get there ever since. Yes, had the $120 cheesesteak and it was awesome! I have to also say the service was incredible and honestly just as good as the food. Great job!

EXCELLENT

By David G |

One of if not the best steak house I ever ate at. From the hot popovers to the filet Oscar Style the food was outstanding. The service was also outstanding.

Parker says "Upscale, dark, overpriced, delicious steakhouse."

By Parker Sturbridge |

I'm back and forth about this place, and would excuse (or not even mention) some minor things, if not for the exorbitant prices that they charge. We arrived a minute or two before our scheduled reservation time, but for some reason, still had to wait about 10-15 minutes for a table. The place was elegantly decorated, dark and very much "the steakhouse". Our waiter was incredibly friendly and informative, but tough to find most of the time. We ordered lamb and some filet's, both of which were quite delicious, but lonely on the plate. Wine was ridiculously priced, so we abstained. The $130 Philly Cheese steak (which our taxi driver chuckled about) is just plain absurd. I kept reading it over and over, trying to justify that. I know that Wagyu beef is expensive, but "truffled Cheese Whiz" just makes me laugh. Bottom line: Great place to eat and max out your credit card.

Barclay Prime- The Best Steak. Period.

By Joseph D |

Barclay Prime is a wonderful dining experience. I go at least once a year -- a special trip to Philadelphia to have a birthday dinner at Barclay Prime. The serve the best steak I have ever enjoyed. Excellent cuts, cooked to perfection. The wait staff is friendly and professional. And the restaurant has very low level lighting which makes it seem extra special. The only problem is that the dinner is so good, there was no room left for dessert. Nice problem to have I suppose.

Excellent service, amazing food

By mlsearles |

From the minute we sat down, our server was professional, friendly and upbeat. She made great recommendations, didn’t rush us and was attentive but not overbearing. The popovers were amazing, the sea bass, filet, Caesar salad, Brussels sprouts and su gratin potatoes were all delicious! The chocolate opera cake topped off the evening!

Amazing Dining Experience!

By Michael W |

This is a must if you are in town. First, the place is simply stunning. From the amazing bar and awesome bartenders to the incredible dining room you cant beat the experience. The servers were amazing too. The food is all first class. Maybe the best Caesar ever. The ribeye and strip were also amazing. Great wine list too. All in all, can't really say anything but great things. Next time in town, I will be there for round two!

The perfect stake.

The Best stake house in Philadelphia. Great wine program, amazing food, perfect service. Always enjoying everything about this place. Tenable you for keeping it up.

5 star meal

By M&K |

I took my beautiful wife to Barclay Prime this weekend. We shared the American Wagyu filet, lobster, and creamed mashed potatoes. For dessert we shared the 3 piece cookie with vanilla ice cream. This is the first time we tried Wagyu. It is expensive, but worth every bite. We asked to have it cooked between medium and medium well. It was closer to medium, and perfect. The lobster was about 1 lb. of the most delicious lobster I have had in awhile. Granted, I did have 2 Amstel Light's prior to the Lobster. But still.....mmmmmmmmm The creamed mash were a pleasant surprise. They used Yukon gold potatoes, along with parmesan cheese and truffle butter. We know this because we looked up the recipe, so we could make it ourselves very soon. Our waiter was top notch as well. If I had to make a minor complaint, it was the seating was tight. A person over 6 foot would have a hard time sitting in the front area where we sat. Looking forward to another trip here in the future.

Outstanding! Exceeds Expectations

By Suzanne C |

Came here for a business dinner. My company loves steakhouses, so I have been to a lot of steakhouses. It was so delicious. The side portions are small and it is expensive. However, I would bring my husband and pay for it. It was worth it. The popover rolls was like eating dessert. The dry aged NY Strip was delicious. Order 2 of the cauliflower sides, and 2 of the gnocchi appetizers-You will thank me. Also, the tater tots are home made. They were delicious, and I don't like tater tots. Went on a Wednesday night, and it was packed. Such a surprising great night. I am going back!!

Disappointed

By wgottlieb48 |

Even though Prime is in their name, not all of their meat is prime. The rib steak and filet mignon were tough. Waiter was condescending and ineffective. Spend your money elsewhere.

Excellent Bar area and Private room for meetings

By Kenneth Pages |

I was able to check out the bar area prior to my business meeting in their private dining space. I recommend both! The bar is bespoke and intimate - 5 or 7 seats as I recall but comfortable. There are also lounge tables if not enough room right at the bar. Drinks are carefully crafted and there is a menu that featured some delicious and perfectly shucked oyters. The bartenders were friendly and engaging but not intrusive. As for the private dining area it is spacious for about 20 guests or so. The staff were excellent. Able to provide service while the presentaion was going on without interrupting or being overly distracting. They were also attentive about things like assuring wine and water were kept up with rather than letting glasses languish as can so often happen at dinner programs. If you recieve an invitation to an event here you should go!

Would come here again and again

By Teresa |

We usually meet friends in the city for dinner around the holidays. Barclay’s always make the top of list. We have been here a handful of times and will always come back for the aged steaks, the swanky ambiance and pleasant service...oh and the pop overs!

Amazing.

By JnSnMnC |

I have been here a few times in the last 6 months & it has been outstanding each time. Ambiance is dark & comfortable. Great music. Exceptional service. Food is other worldly delicious. The Barclay Prime Cheesesteak is a must. It is an experience. Do it! I recommend the bone-rib eye, Kennet Square Mushrooms & the Mac n Cheese. You will not be disappointed!!!

Giving up on Starr’s mediocre dishes

By Dougmg |

I am not going to another overpriced Starr restaurant. Very very expensive while the dishes are mediocre to fair. Each restaurant I have visited is similar. Beautiful setting, very expensive, and mediocre dishes. Yawn

Fantastic as always

By EWMIMIKE |

Barclay Prime is a favorite destination for a bunch of our college friends ... the service is always perfect! The appetizers are equally perfect... steak steak steak!!! Absolutely wonderful! I really like the atmosphere here too... it’s smaller and much more intimate... great place to gather to enjoy a great well prepared steak professionally served... may be the best steak in the city! I also enjoy the bar as you walk in the front... classic city bar! A must stop!

Amazing find in Philly!

By Anthony Kjenstad |

Found this place by actually searching of the best cheesesteak in Philly. They have a $140 option paired with Champagne that looked amazing so we booked a spot! Full intentions of doing the cheesesteak but by the time we hit this place we had already done a few other places we we pivoted to other choices on the menu. Thoroughly impressed with all things. Menu is little but with lots of selections. They specialize in high end steaks offering many choices go Wagyu. From the bread(puffy pastry) to the salad to the final steak all things were top notch topped off with great service. Both the waiter and the Wine Somm did a great job. If there is a negative the wine prices were a bit pricey but found a gem in a Paso Robles GSM from Booker. The plus side to the wine list and probably why the prices are higher is the wines are aged properly. The GSM was a 2017 and it was drinking great. Love the experience and would definitely say it was my top experience in Philly food wise!

Best restaurant ever .

By Mahamadou S |

Starting from the Host to our great server Mat. We had the best experience ever. Mat went above and beyond to make this visit special. It was my birthday and he brought us a cake. The service was great. The food was good too. Anytime I needed something Mat was right next to me and just ready to assist. I can keep going on. I worked with hotels and restaurants for years. But never had this great experience before. Thanks again Mat. We will definitely be back

Excellent restaurant

By ABD119 |

Overcooked steak was replaced on 3 minutes by a perfect one. This place has amazing service. All dishes were delicious

Amazing

By isa081 |

The atmosphere has such a cool vibe and the service is top notch. The drinks were delicious and there are fabulously unique touches like choosing your own knife from a superior selection of exquisite quality knives. My husband is a chef so we particularly enjoyed that special touch. And then the food. Absolutely top notch. The wedge salad was delightful and the filet was utter perfection. I don’t have a single negative thing to say about this fabulous gem!

Great dinner!

By Barbara E |

My husband, sister, and I had a great dinner at Barclay Prime. We did try the $120 cheesesteak and it was very delicious but not worth the money. It had a very savory flavor and it was a considerable size, which is great for sharing. We also tried the lobster bisque, Hamachi Crudo, toasted chicken, sea bass, truffle Mac cheese, potato gratin, etc. All of these dishes were also delicious but not unique in any way. I guess I was expecting more for the prices. The complimentary cheese pop overs very great. The dessert selection was nice and we enjoyed the peach crepes. Overall this restaurant would be great for an intimate dinner or dinner with friends.

Dissapointing

By Carlos R |

Visited the restaurant with family of 6 and the service was about average. Decided to share a steak with my son as the stated weight was 18 oz, based on experience we all know that it gets smaller but not that small. In top of that they use the method to crust the steak but they went to far and had a burned taste rather than a crust. Will not go again.

Great restaurant

By JAD423 |

By far my best experience in a Philadelphia restaurant yet. We had the seafood sampler for an appetizer, which included oysters, lobster tail, tuna tartare and shrimp the size of bananas. The steaks for second to none. The sides were family style with plenty to choose from. Try the tarot tots and mac and cheese, awesome stuff. You get to choose your own steak knife which is a unique experience. Several craft beer options, deep wine list and cocktail menu was impressive.

Unfortunate all around

By Kirianas123 |

Wanted to celebrate with a glass of champagne with my spouse. Not going for dinner, just sat at the bar. Got there around 5:25pm on Mar 17, Saturday. Fine service from older gentleman bartender. However, when we flagged the second bartender (dark facial hair) for another glass, he did not offer new flutes. Rather, he refilled both glasses, including mine which was still 1/2 full. Odd. Then when we got the bill they charged us for a full glass. I reminded them when the bill came and the older bartender immediately took off a glass of our bill as he should have but did it in a passive aggressive way while offering no apology. We then audibly heard the other bartender say to him “it’s Saturday” while pointing at us. Not sure what that meant but it was followed by several stares from the younger bartender that were rude and awkward to say the least. Completely surreal experience from a place that suggests to be something else. We won’t be back and won’t bring clients here either.

Amazing

By LilLaurs11 |

This has to be my new favorite restaurant. We were unable to get a reservation last night so we had to sit in the front area which was honestly terrific. It was quiet and intimate with great service. The bread was the best bread I have ever had at a restaurant. We each loved our orders of the sea bass and the filet mignon. The steak was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. And the dessert left us speechless. I love ordering the cookie skillet dessert at restaurants but this cookie skillet not only had chocolate chip but a trio including the most delicious sugar cookie and oatmeal raisin cookie. Beyond amazing meal and can't wait to go back.

Absolutely the best !

Have been to all the highly rated restaurants in Philly. This is by far the best. Food Ambience Staff Over the top for a special birthday dinner for my wife. Our waitress Erin was tremendous. The place is special. Had the ribeye could be one of the best ever ! Highly recommend for that special dinner. Great wine list Superb!

High style

By Ron J |

When you are done shopping or spending time in the park skip Parc and try Barclay Prime. The best Place in the city to sit back, relax, have a drink, and something light to nibble on. Quiet and great for conversation. Great views of the park from a warm wood paneled lounge. If your thinking dinner, you’ll need a reservation. Not inexpensive but worthy the price. Dress appropriately.

Best steak ever!

By OFBDF |

Barclay Prime Was unique as soon as you walk in the door! It’s has a prestigious feel about it and the waitstaff was amazing! My wife and I enjoyed every minute of our meal. The lighting was warm and relaxing! I had the Wagyu ny strip, melts in your mouth! Flat out amazing! My wife had the filet, she has been known not to finish any meal when we go to dinner. But this time I almost got the German knife she picked in my hand, when I asked for the last piece! Lol Next trip back I’m getting the cheese steak for sure! Trust me, there will be a next time!!

Barclays Prime

The food is awesome! Service was exceptional and not over intrusive. The filet was tender and flavorful. My husband had the butter poached lobster and tho on the pricey side, was excellent!

Good enough to return, but make a reservation

By Toño N |

We were six, three grandchildren my son one of my sons-in-law and I. We were in search of a good steak restaurant. I found on the internet that Barclay was selling a 50 oz. Tomahwak Ribeye and this excited us. The first downside (not highlighted on their website) is that we had no reservation and were accommodated in a poorly lit drinking area. We immediately told the waiter that we wanted the Tomahawk and to our surprise they were exhausted. However from the outset the waiter's attention was very detailed and his subsequent recommendations were very good. We changed the Tomahawk by two spectacular Porterhouse 32 oz each. The accompaniments were up to the meat but the bread was another very tasty detail, made of croissant dough and with a very own flavor.

A bit off compared to other visits.

By Jay1012013 |

The service is still excellent! we were there this past Saturday night celebrating an early Valentine's dinner. We have been here several times and always found the meal to be outstanding, this time was different. The apps were still great as was the baked potato but the steaks, (a porterhouse and a bone in filet) were nothing like they were in the past. Both were lacking the great flavor and both were slightly over cooked. The meat was tender, just not flavorful. They could also do a little better with their wine prices. Charging $190.00 for a bottle of $50.00 wine is a bit excessive. Every wine I knew was priced with equally high mark-ups.

Dark and Clubby

By jgmjr |

This was a rather quick solo dinner at the bar before a Philadelphia Orchestra performance. I asked the Rittenhouse Hotel concierge for a good place for a nice meal, solo, near the hotel and on the way to the Kimmel Center. I didn't want a "Happy Hour" place filled with noisy "suits". He immediately suggested Barclay Prime. The caveat is: I'm not a red meat eater- but I checked the menu out ahead of time and, like most decent steakhouses, there were a few fish options, including a crabcake which is just about my favorite food. The atmosphere was exactly what I wanted. The bar is small, about 7 or 8 seats, and most everyone sits at bar tables, so there's no crowd looking over your shoulder. It's dark, luxe and woody, just as you'd expect a steakhouse to look. The food? Well, the crabcake (actually 2 mini-cakes) was OK, but I must admit, I've had better. I asked for a side salad and got their $15.00 chopped salad- good enough, but way more than I needed. I should have checked the menu before agreeing to that! Excellent service from the barkeep, delightful smoky atmosphere, well prepared drinks and decent, but not 5-star, food. The downside is, this is an expensive place! An appetizer size crabcake plate, a salad, 2 drinks and a dessert was about $110.00 with tip. Take that as you will.

Exquisite Dining!

After receiving a nice welcome from the hostess Maria, I entered the main dining area and it was elegant and well designed. The table setting was lovely and the seats were plush. The overall atmosphere was beautiful with sensational music playing in the background. The staff was spectacular, especially, my server Darlene. She was very attentive and very professional in providing outstanding service to me. Ian, also, helped increase my dining pleasure by both attending my table periodically and when he packaged my "to go" food items. A warm greeting and personal assistance came from the Manager Alex Tominski. The food was magnificent! The chop salad was delicious. My 32 ounce Porterhouse steak was cooked to perfection and the corn, I love, was fantastic. I plan to dine here at the Barclay Prime on a regular basis because, alone I sat at my table and I was in an eating paradise.

Excellent Steakhouse in the heart of Philly

By Gary M |

If you are a steak lover, this is the place. This is a top shelf steak house. The service was phenomenal. Their popovers are amazing prior to the meal. Fine cuts of meat and lots of little touches which make the meal. They also have seafood on the menu for non steak eating guests. I particularly liked the waitress giving us a selection of various steak knives to use. That was a first. Well worth a visit for steak lovers.

It was tasty.

Having just got off a flight from London and suffered excruciating queues in customs and then also queuing to leave the airport with our bags (why?) we were feeling a little "bruised" on arrival at the restaurant and possibly not that hungry. Nice ambience..dark entrance bar with some tables ..we were taken thru into a dim space surrounded by modern shelving with a smattering of books around the walls. Tables are close together. We shared a lumpcrab cake, butterball potatoes with aioli and the shaved brussel sprouts which was DELICIOUS and just what we wanted. My dirty martini was excellent. Wine list has too high a mark up which is a shame as the williamette wines I'd have liked to order but with the exchange rate and the mark up I just couldn't do it. Wine is approx $17 a glass and a cocktail is $15. People around us seemed to be eating ALOT of food. The salads looked huge and the steaks which followed looked gargantuan. Nice waiters. Good service. I didn't like how cramped the tables were as whenever the tables on either side were served or were shown knives to choose from a (what?) it intruded on our space. Wine list pricing despite the exchange rate I thought was unfortunate hence the four stars. I know how much that wine costs a bottle and the mark up was way off. So my tip is go..enjoy..drink lots of water(!!) . Ps? The cheese gougere the size of my fist instead of bread, warm from the oven was DIVINE and I shall remember that for a long time. Loved that.

Wow!

First time at Barclay Prime and I am definitely a fan. Great ambience (romantic and intimate vibe) Great service. Great food and drink. Lobster bisque is outstanding! One of the few restaurants in Philly that provide you with both a great meal and great experience!

Great Business Meeting Locale

By amlash |

We had a large group meeting at the Barclay for dinner. The food was excellent, as was the service and ambience. The only drawback with the wine list was super overpriced.

Lovely

By sm0llyg |

Date night? This IS THE place. Quiet and romantic. The menu has lovely variety and the service is impeccable! Our server, Jessica, was knowledgeable and caring The steak was done to perfection and the suggestions to try were perfection

Amazing Dinner

By Harve920 |

If you're looking for a delicious steak dinner in a chic, modern atmosphere - look no further. The food surpassed our expectations, and the service was top notch. I highly recommend Barclay Prime. Perfect spot for a romantic dinner date!

It is pricey, but for a reason

By jpm3x |

Fantastic steak. Might have been the best steak I have ever eaten Fabulous mashed potatoes Excellent oyster platter Honestly, just a fantastic evening of food. But it comes with the city price.

Amazing Steakhosue and so much more!

By MSA |

Barclay Prime is one of my favorite restaurants! The food is phenomenal. Especially love the Hamachi crudo, dover sole, scallops, chopped salad, wedge salad, filet mignon, NY strip, tater tots, truffle mac and cheese and the warm cookie for dessert. The wine selection is first rate and the sommelier makes great recommendations. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed and the service is always impeccable. Highly recommend this for special occasions - personal or business - they set the bar really high. Always have a fantastic experience at Barclay Prime!

Fantastic

By Alizeh HR |

We had a lovely dinner here this past weekend. The steaks were perfectly cooked (they even waited until my husband came back to the table before serving), the wine was lovely, the appetizer (artichokes) we're incredible, the service was impeccable, and the ambience was romantic/classy. The prices are very comparable to del Frisco's. We wish they had this restaurant in Manhattan!

Simply Excellent!

By arissalovesart |

We loved everything about this restaurant-- the decor, ambiance, friendliness of staff (hostesses, manager, server, busboy), food quality, portion, and variety, location, etc. Overall excellent!

Great place for a special dinner

By gregsmom |

Everything was wonderful. The service, the food, the ambiance - all were perfect. The steak we liked best was the Idaho 8 oz. steak. The truffle mac and cheese was great as were the scallops. The banana creme brulee was my favorite dessert. It's expensive, but for a very special experience, it's a great choice.

Fabulous steak dinner.

By Wendy R |

Dined here on my first night staying in PHL. In a lovely location opposite Rittenhouse Sqaure. Very upscale restaurant..inside was dark and classy. Waiter was helpful and chatty. Ordered NY strip Wagyu as never tried before. A selection of steak knives are presented to you for choosing before meal arrives all with interesting names. Food and service was good.

Not the best for expensive Restaurant

By Bill Flocco |

Ok so I've been here twice and both times the steak there is just average. My take on Steak is if I'm paying $50-$70 for a steak dinner it better blow me away. This place doesn't do that for me. I can buy steak at grocery store grill at thome and exceed the flavor from Barclay Prime. My daughter loves this place and is her pick for birthday dinner so i go, but really for $500 I can go to much better places and have great meal. Place is nice, service is good but food just average for the money!

Great food. Trendy atmosphere

By foodexpert20122 |

Food was excellent. Ambiance cool and trendy. Service very good. I had the sea bass which was phenomenal. A bit spicy yet very tasty. Highly recommend. We also had hamachi and scallops as appetizers. The best on the menu. Our server was right! Would come back here.

Excellent steaks and seafood

By Anthony F |

Had a business dinner and it was an excellent setting, the dinner was paced well, the service very good, the food exquisite. Wine list extensive. I plan to return and have one of the Wagyu selections on my own dime, just have to see if they are worth the price. The appetizers, the sides, the entrees were all excellent and perfectly prepared. Parking in lot around corner is convenient and less expensive than the valet parking.

What a steakhouse should be all about!

By From the Bay! |

I made reservations for us (me and two high-school classmates) at the "best rated" steakhouse in Philly. I've got to admit, we were not let down. Barclay Prime was just what the "guys" needed on a chilly winter Saturday night. The service was excellent, the menu had plenty of options. We started with oysters (fresh options from both coasts), and moved on to the "wow-classic" iceberg salad, before really enjoying our entrees. I opted for the Waygu filet mignon, while another had the ribeye, and the other rack-of-lamb. The wine list, and selection was also of top quality. "Yes" next time I visit Philly, I'll be back to Barclay Prime!

Classy. Delicious. STEAK

By ilovecorndogs |

I bit the bullet and had the american waygu - was NOT disappointed. Every bite was like butter - VERY impressed. Best piece of steak Ive ever had. Really fun to choose your knife as well - surprised I done see this at more restaurants. The brussel sprouts side is also incredible - but the mac and cheese, not great. Turbot fish - best in class as well. This place is NOT cheap, but you get what you pay for. $400 for a nce dinner for 2 with a bottle of wine and some beers...a good celebration place.

Perfect special occasion restaurant

By SThompon4384 |

Only a few miles away from home Barclays consistently delivers whether it's dinner for a special occasion or just stopping by for drinks with friends

Classy with fantastic meals

By Damir R |

What more to ask?! I am sure I’ll come back to this fantastic restaurant as soon I visit again this great city of Philadelphia. Every single meal was so tasty and the steak came as the apex of the evening. Desserts are also excellent. Waitress was very professional.

Cozy Steak Dinner

By Bill W |

I was very impressed with this restaurant! Cozy, dark but lively atmosphere. Server was excellent! Went with the Porterhouse and it beat out the same same cuts I've gotten from Del Frisco's and Butcher & Singer (which are awesome as well). Had the Smoking Gun (whisky cocktail) which was excellent. Tuna app was also top notch. As other reviews have stated they are a little heavy on the salt. Figure about $150/person for 3 course (w/ side) and a cocktail. It's a little on the pricey side compared to the other big name steakhouses but you can't argue with the level of service or food!

Fantastic

By David G |

Fantastic - Celebrated 30th anniversary and the food and service didn't disappoint. Excellent service and the food was outstanding. From the appetizers to the steaks and finally to the dessert everything was spot on. Their signature popovers were out of this world. Can't wait to go back.

This Philly Steakhouse is Amazing!

By Lisa Cott |

Best steak house experience I've ever had. Amazing filet mignon that I split with hubby. Daughter and SIL shared a rib eye. both were delicious, tender, flavorful and perfectly prepared. side Caesar salad that we split, along with the Mac and Cheese were both outstanding. Popovers were the best. We enjoyed the Rossi del Rossi from Montalcino which was an excellent pairing. Enjoy!

best steakehouse in philly

I had a newyork strip The wife had a rack of lamb was excellent. only problem was loudness. service great.

One of the best meals

By Ferzeen P |

Recently stopped in for a solo dinner on a business trip. Loved the vibe! Jessica was a fabulous server who made eating alone a less painful experience. Had the tuna tartare, 8oz filet Oscar style and rocky road brownie. All my wines were paired perfectly for the courses. Will definitely be back and was worth every penny!

Special evening out

By Kristin |

My husband & I were in town visiting my sister & her boyfriend and celebrating our wedding anniversary. We walked around Rittenhouse Square, enjoyed the scene & headed to Barclay Prime. We started with their lobster bisque ~ nice chunks of lobster in the soup paired perfectly with fresh popovers. We followed with filets & lobster which were melt in your mouth delicious! We also had their truffle mac & cheese, tater tots & snap peas. We ended the night with the highly suggested s'mores dessert which was omg good. The service was impeccable! The ambiance was lovely & indulgent.

Great food and service.

By James |

Amazing food every time. The popovers are to die for. Steaks always prepared to perfection. Last visit, I had the Dover sole, which was the best piece of fish I’ve ever had. Wait staff is highly professional, attentive but not smothering. Highly recommend.

one of the best dinning experiences

By RicardoCub |

Excellence all the way: service, menu, ambiance. One of the best meals I've ha and not just because the Tomahawk we ordered was perfect or my wife's filet mignon was delicious. The wine list offers you great choices within every budget. The side dishes are splendid. We started with a Tuna tartar and then moved to the steaks I've already described. For side dishes we chose the Idaho baked Potato and the Jumbo Asparagus, finishing up with the Market cheesecake and great espresso. if I am lucky enough to return to Philly, I will certainly visit Barclay again!

Not the same experience

By Pcosby |

My husband and I returned to Barclay Prime after several years but we were not as impressed as we had been. The server was nice but he was not overly attentive. As other reviews have said, the restaurant is known for its attention to details but we did not feel that this visit. The food was good, of course! We had oysters, ahi tuna, chopped salad (I got mine with the truffle vinaigrette which was delicious!!), wagyu beef, crab cake, spinach, and asparagus. We had leftovers which I asked to have wrapped. The server took them but never brought them back. There was a decent size piece of beef left and a 1/3 of the crab cake that were wasted. We were there for 2 1/2 hours and rather than feeling like an experience, it just felt drawn out. I hope it was just an off night because I have always held this restaurant in high regard!!

Excellent steak and tuna tartare but pricey

By Kzroo |

The food here is excellent. Very well done and nicely presented. Service is good. There’s a nice atmosphere and good buzz. The one draw back is the prices - significant for food and wine. I’d think twice about returning regularly.

Great food, good service

By GreatProphetZarquon |

Great food. Best lobster bisque I’ve had in a long time, Philly cheesesteak simply awesome. Seating comfortable and (just) far enough apart, though dining room noisy due to large groups. Service generally good but too many interruptions to check that everything is ok (I’ll tell you soon enough if it isn’t) and a lack of the discreet attentiveness that marks out the best establishments.

Birthday Dinner

By April Z |

My boyfriend and I came here for his birthday. We had heard about the $120 cheesesteaks and wanted to try them, so we decided to come for an entire meal. The ambiance is quiet and dark, but your eyes get used to it pretty quickly. We were seated at a table with couches which were nice, but toward the end of the meal our backs hurt. They don’t offer great lumbar support. The champagne that came with the cheesesteaks was great, if you don’t want it the cheesesteaks alone cost $95. The cheesesteaks are worth a trip alone. They are bursting with flavor and warm and gooey from melted cheese. So delicious! For our entrees, we ordered the jumbo crab cake and the 20 oz MY strip (medium rare), and 2 sides: potato gratin and Brussels sprouts. Before your entrees came out they bring out hot and crispy popovers that have a hint of cheese and herbs. We asked for a second round for our entrees. Our waitress also brought out a box of knives which we could choose from for our meals, which I thought was a cool touch. The crab cake was good and had lots of crab meat, but my boyfriend felt the salad that came on top didn’t go well with it; I thought it was fine. The steak came out a bit too rare. We were surprised that it was so rare because my boyfriend loves rare steak and it was a bit too much for him (I prefer medium well). The sprouts and gratin were great though, and there were leftovers for the next day. Lastly, they brought out some gingersnap cookies and a little piece of chocolate cake that had happy birthday written on the plate for my boyfriend, which was also a nice touch. Overall we enjoyed our meal, we were just surprised by the steak.

Amazing all around

By Lorna M |

The ambiance, service was over the top. The food, very expensive and meh... Lobster Bisque-amazing Brioche bread-delicious Chilean Sea Bass was delicious but the sauce it was sitting In reminded me of cream of mushroom soup in a can. Lackluster and ruined the dish. Servers work above and beyond to please you. Just didn’t do it for me.

Okay but not good

By Nitrox J |

I had a reservation but the Restaurant was over booked and they sat me in the bar area behind the reception desk. I wish Barclays Prime would have mentioned this when I made the reservation. I would have went somewhere else. I did not enjoy sitting in the dark dingy bar area. My NY strip was cooked to perfection however there was no seasoning on the steak. I would have liked salt and pepper. The potatoes au gratin had very little flavor. The potatoes were cut paper thin. I even found them slightly undercooked. I recommend reworking your recipe with thicker slices of potatoes and choose a tastier cheese sauce. The waiter provided excellent service. The chocolate tart was delicious; however, Based on my experience I do not recommend Barclays Prime.

Fine Fine Steaks!

By UncleDave35 |

Last year we enjoyed this wonderful steak house, when I enjoyed their AGED ribeye. The was the best steak ever I consumed. This year was torn because they also had prime double thick bone in lamb chops and I was unable to resist. I was not disappointed. I do not know what they seasoned them with but the flavor was exceptional. My Sweetie had her filet which she could have cut it with her fork. However she used her knife which is proper. The salads were perfect as were the baked potatoes. If you're steak hungry, this is the place to go in Philly.

Philly weekend

By MandD5 |

We were in town for a Mets-Phillies game and decided to try this place out. Everything was excellent. I had the dry aged ribeye and my wife had the ribeye cap. We also had oysters, diver scallops, creamed spinach, crème brûlée , and cocktails. Our server Matthew was friendly, very helpful, and efficient. Will definitely return when in the area

Phenomenal experience

By justlis67 |

Ambiance, service, expertly prepared and presented food ~~ what more could we ask for? Our waiter was attentive and engaging, especially so with my 10 and 12 year-old niece and nephew. The Wagyu Ribeye was tender, seared just-so, and melt-in-your mouth. My nephew devoured his Caesar salad and lamb chops, and niece "loved" her filet. They enjoyed the baked cookie with ice cream, and I indulged in a scoop of refreshing pomegranate sorbet. We had a great time!

Review of Barclay Prime

By TattooedSouvenirs |

Barclay Prime is elegant and top tier. I highly recommend making a reservation, as the restaurant was busy for a Wednesday evening, but using OpenTable makes this easy and convenient. I was greeted by a friendly host who welcomed me for my first dining experience with them and checked my coat. The original table I was seated at was in the corner and uncomfortably close to other guests and the server station. A huge thanks to the server for recognizing this and offering to assist in changing tables. The second table was much better, allowing for me to relax and enjoy the dining experience. I ordered the Chilean Seabass with sides of asparagus and truffle mac and cheese. The food was absolutely delicious. The carrot sauce for the fish was creamy with a hint of spicy, the mac and cheese was rich and savory, and the asparagus had a slight char to it with a light citrus flavor. My husband ordered Wagyu Filet Mignon with a side of truffle mashed potatoes. The meat was cooked to perfection and tender enough to cut without a knife. The mashed potatoes were light and fluffy, almost melt in your mouth. Upscale. Delectable.

Perfect, Just Perfect

By _VictoriaRob88 |

I had not been here for about 8 years or so but, my goodness - it did not disappoint! Every single item from drinks, to starters, to entrees, to sides is prepared absolutely perfectly. Allergy conscious. Service is top of the line! Thank you for a lovely night.

Awesome Food

By Madhukar K |

Food is phenomenal! I know the prices are super high but its all worth. Everything tasted so fresh and exceptional from pop-overs to the sides.

What you’d expect overpriced food

By thelangernj |

The wine list is solid, but the prices are as you’d expect, pricey. We came with 7 and were seated quickly. We enjoyed a magnum while we browsed the menu, but we were onto a second and third bottle before our orders for entrees was taken. The entrees were solid, but these restaurants are simply aggregious when the side prices for simple veggies gets into the mid teens This is not a place to go we’re not if you want value. Overall good meal, but the tab is well, over the top.

Birthday Celebration

By Flemming S |

We had the pleasure to dine at Barkley Prime and our experience was a great one. Our waiter Eric did excellent job and complimented the excellent food and provided great wine and cocktail suggestions. We are going back and it was worth the drive from Bel Air MD to have a great dining experience. Hats off to Barkley Prime you exceeded your fine reputation.

Falls Short

By janetu460 |

The bartender was nice but we ordered gin and tonics and asked what the tonic water brand was. At a place and price like that I thought it would be Fever Tree or Qtonic but no, it was Canada Dry. Seemed strange when other less prime restaurants use the best ones. Hostess was very nice and professional and set the tone. Then we went to our table and the waiter arrived. He was nice but kind of like the Canada dry. He was just a friendly guy with none of the extra professionalism that I thought would come at a fancy overpriced restaurant. The drinks took about 25 minutes to arrive and the candle went out which I placed at the end of the table to be seen. No one came until about 20 minutes to relight it. Not very important but again, little things at a place like that should be attended to or I should just go to a local casual place. The steaks were done as we ordered. I wish there were more just steamed vegetables because the steaks are rich and most of the sides are as well. A few tablespoons of sauce for the steaks cost $4.00. I think that should just come with the meal. The waiter was attentive to our time concerns and he gave our birthday person a piece of cake to take home. He was very kind but overall in terms of a five star restaurant, I would say it was a strange mixture of folksy, nice, corn syrup tonic water , high prices, great steaks, dry popovers , great chocolate candy, attentive waiter at times and slow at other times...maybe just "it was fine" but once was enough.

Good stakes and seafood

By Roberto D |

My daughter, son and me had a great experience in this cousin atmosphere, the meat and sea food was first class as was the service.

Expensive but the wagu ribeye is spectacular

By FinnRuns630 |

The wagu ribeye steak melts in your mouth. Every bite is a savory treasure. Best steak I have eaten in 65 years. The service was excellent. This restaurant is for a special occasion/ celebration and worth the price. The food makes your mouth happy!

Comfortable streak house

By 2travelingscientists |

I am normally not a steakhouse girl preferring fish and modern decor, but this place was fantastic! The room was light , modern, yet classy comfortable. The kale salad was one of the best I have had in a while. I ordered the petite filet, broccoli, and macaroni and cheese and it was marvelous! The staff was great. A very good experieince!

Really nice time

By AKaison |

I went with a friend they never been before and was curious to.try out the aged steak. It was my third time there but each time it was the best. Melissa was extremely helpful and gave us great recommendation I must return for some lobster bisque but maybe to go Oh!! And for another strawberry marshmallow

Perfect!!

By GWsugar |

Our first visit to the Barclay Prime was fabulous. It was a very crowded Saturday night and the service we received was as if we were the only guest there, outstanding. We have been to our share of upscale restaurants and my hubby says the Chilean Seabass was the best he has eaten. I had the filet which was excellent as well. The delicious Caesar salad was enough for three people and the popover bread was delightful. The fantastic end of a great dinner was Dessert. We had the most remarkable peach cheesecake and the freshly homemade banana sorbet was amazing. Do I need to say, “we’ll be back?”

Best porterhouse ever!

By Leonhkny |

Recommended by our hotel as the best steakhouse in Philadelphia. Barclay Prime is at the ground floor of an upscale residential building at the southeast corner of Rittenhouse Square. Unlike traditional wooden setting, decor is modern. Menu is a splurge version of meat and seafood options. Oyster is fresh from Chesapeake Bay. 35-aged porterhouse is juicy, tender and optimally seasoned. Truffle mac and cheese is rich and creamy. Banana pudding creme brulee is a decadent finish of the feast. Service is top-notch and price pretty reasonable. Reservation is a must at anytime.

Classic steakhouse

By wander1 |

This is a high end, prototypical steakhouse. Servers are knowledgeable and attentive, wine selection is very good and steaks and side were all very good (rib eye for me, filet for herself). The server timing is good and you are not rushed at any time. We often wait to get out appetizers before ordering the mains and here you don't have to do that, they'll take care of. Prices are high but not out of bounds for this level of restaurant.

Excellent ambiance, very good wine selection, amazing steaks: special place

By TravelChicDr |

The atmosphere was first class, the service was very professional and courteous. They had a large selection of wines. The Brioche bread was to-die-for...Seafood looked nice but we chose to go for meat; beef carpaccio, mini burgers and filet mignon-all were very tasty and cooked as ordered. The interesting thing is that they make you choose your knife ! The sides were OK too but I really do not get to charge extra for sides while the every single meal in the menu was already expensive. The dessert was also delicious. Overall; it is a special restaurant with excellent steaks, though really expensive and I consider it as a one-time experience...
