Excellent food and drinks

Went to celebrate Rugby world cup win 2015... post game thank god when the crowd had left. Wonderful lb burgers and selection of beers and mixed cocktails.... Dog friendly too!

Tino Pai !!! Great evening of casual dining - with a drink or two

By Knikkers |

A fab Kiwi find for New Zealander's holidaying in Pacific Beach!! We enjoyed a really great casual meal of burgers - and a totally delectable appetiser of Kal Maori (Tempura Fried Calamari!) ... but this was no usual calamari - it was the best we have ever had!!! In fact I want a basket of it right now just thinking about it ... We absolutely recommend the Vodka Drink and the Rum Drink ... Love the names of the dishes on the menu too - it always adds an element of fun when you are ordering a dish with a quirky name ... my Dirty Jerz was great! Go the All Blacks!!!!

Great service, great food!

By Crispy1001 |

Stopped here for lunch and we both went for the burger with a side of fries for me, and sweet potato fries for my better half - absolutely delicious! Staff were very friendly! Lovely to sit outside and just watch the world go by!

Really good!

By Aquaholchick |

Loved the cozy atmosphere. We shared the Maui Waui and a soft pretzel both were amazing!! The staff was friendly and the food was served fast!

Summer vaca

By Jenifer F |

We tried to grab a sunset (too cloudy) but that did not damper the meal! Great beer...hefeweizen, amber, cream, and pilsner. Great burgers (including the black bean patty). Chad rocked!!

Bargain Mimosas and Quintessential Beach Food

By Kelly C |

We stopped by here after a Sunday hike at Torrey Pines. We had never been here before, but WOW, we were pleasantly surprised. There were a few patrons on the patio that we telling us that the "math just makes sense to come here". We weren't sure of what they were talking about until we went in. BARGAIN MIMOSAS! Starting at 10am, they are $1, increasing $.50 every half hour until 1pm. What a perfect Sunday! A little healthy exercise followed by great drinks, and great food. I had the Breakfast Blunt, which was a great rendition of a SoCal breakfast burrito. My wife had the breakfast sandwich, which was also amazing. And who doesn't love tater tots?! We will definitely be back. I highly recommend this to locals and tourists alike. The staff was great (courteous, friendly, knowledgeable, etc).

Really good food!

By Jlc304 |

On first glance, I was expecting pretty standard bar-type food. I was very pleasantly surprised at how much this place surpassed my expectations. I had a teriyaki chicken sandwich with pineapple and some sweet potato fries, and both were absolutely delicious. They also have a pretty good beer selection, which just made everything that much tastier. I would definitely recommend/go back here.

Burgers, beer, beach!

By Maggie C |

This is such a fun little beach bar just one block off of Pacific Beach. Great cocktails, good food, nice servers and bartenders! This was a perfect stop before or after beach time. Good burgers, tasty fries and calamari... great bar food... and drinks! (Beer, moscow mules, bloody marys...)

Good burger, good beer, what more do you need?

By CancanUK_10 |

Had a great meal here with my husband while on our honeymoon in San Diego. The burger menu was very interesting and different (eg lamb burger, pesto burger) and when came the burgers were delicious, with a great home cooked feel. The beer menu was also great, so my husband who loves American craft beer was in his element. Our server (sorry cant remember her name) was really friendly, answered all our questions and even didn't charge my husband when he ordered a beer it turned out he didn't like. That's what I call service! Overall, excellent gourmet burger evening!

Bare Back Grill - a Fun Pub in PB!

By Larryrutkowski |

Back Bare Grill is a Fun little Grill & bar on Mission Blvd in PB! Only a block from the beach. It is a good place to grab a good burger and cool special cocktail in the area. And is of much better quality & experience then the neighboring pubs. Every day, they have a burger special. Plus Great Giant Pretzels and good sandwiches and salads. Enjoy!

Beat the Clock

By vagabondginger |

The weekend breakfast has an interesting special called "beat the clock". At 9am the mimosas are $1 and they increase by 50 cents every 1/2 hour. I sat at the outside bar overlooking the street and it was all locals who were there early like I was. I was able to order an ala carte breakfast of just eggs and bacon, but fellow patrons had come good looking food on their plates. We all were enjoying the mimosas. Cheap but good breakfast for me.

Best Burgers!!

By debikc4 |

Everything is organic here, it is a little sports bar off the board walk and walking distance from the beach and from our hotel. We got to San Diego on a Sunday so this place was packed watching the football games. Need to try this place you will not regret it!

Great burgers and fries

By CariC40 |

The burgers here were really good as were the fries and onion rings. The place was very crowded when we went, and seating is limited. Tables are very close together with little room for walking in between, and it is very loud (that's what earned it a 4 rather than 5). There is no kids menu, but our little guy is always happy to just be served a giant plate of fries. We didn't try the beer, but it looked like a popular place to go for beers, so they're probably pretty good.

How did they improve the classic cheeseburger?

By Michelle C |

I never thought the cheeseburger could be improved upon but I was wrong! This was mouthwatering delicious! A light rye bun, a house made cheese... serious?! Garlic aioli sauce.... heaven! And the price is right!!!

Pricey...not my favorite...

By diane12751 |

On the plus side, the atmosphere and proximity to the beach was great and the service was good. On the minus, the prices were high...$12-13 for a burger without fries. We opted for a salad of mixed greens with strawberries, candied walnuts and feta cheese for $10. Portion size was about half of what I expected, very few strawberries. The flavor and taste of the salad was good...just not enough.

Good Food

By Concertgoer54 |

Good food here for a decent price. The fries were a little pricey at $5.00 for a small order. The biggest problem I had with this place is that they charged you for getting ranch dressing for our fries. When you are paying $5.00 for an order of fries why would you charge for a couple of sides of ranch. Almost nobody else charges for that. The service was good.

Super

By Diabolik79 |

the best chicken sandwich eaten in my life!!! Amazing I hope to come back soon in this place! See you

Lamb Burgers!

By Pegeen B |

Lamb burgers cooked to perfection along with changing list of craft beers on tap; fun interesting clientele ; quick service even when busy if you stick to the buyers and bar food; YES order the lamb burger with the egg -- just makes it even juicier.

Hearty food casual surfer eatery

By KIM |

The fish and chips is really good. Crispy batter with tender cod fillet within. They also serve New Zealand style burgers which you can order with buns or wrapped in ice berg lettuce as a non carb variation. Bare Back also stock a good selction of craft beers freash by the 1/2 or 1 pint. Reasonable prices with good portions...you won't leave hungry!

Great burgers

By Crusty1967 |

Best burgers of our trip through CA so far. It was a lively Saturday evening but we were seated straight away and enjoyed the Average Joe cheeseburgers and local Pilsner very much. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Outstanding

By jacq920 |

Our meal and beers were outstanding. I had the turkey burger which was delish. The fries are the best I have ever had! Everything is all natural and homemade. Many of the beers on tap were local or organic. So glad we found this place!

Pacific Beach Jewel

By Robyn P |

We live in Vancouver and were vacationing in San Diego. I had purchased a groupon before we left to try the Bare Back. Boy did we enjoy it. I eat gluetin free and the buns they have are great. The burger and salad I had was delicious. The service was excellent. Friendly staff. We will definitely be back.

Great spot for a burger and a beer!

By 87Twins |

We hit this place for lunch right when we arrived in Pacific Beach. Its a fun place with great California girls working there and a fun and friendly environment. They serve some microbrews from California and have a great selection of burgers and salads.

Yummy burgers!

By ArizonaChrisAmy |

Fun open-air place with flat screens to enjoy various sports. First time had ahi salad which was good. Next time I had the Kiwilango with blue cheese, jalapenos and aioli and BBG sauce. Outstanding! Their organic, grass-fed beef made for wonderful burgers. Husband got the Queenstown Fave both times. Son got Dirty Jerz- a chicken sandwich both times. We got an order of the shoe string fries and an order of the sweet potato fries with crumbled blue cheese. Both were delicious. They have a great selection of craft beers and different flavored mules. I can recommend both the Raspy Mule and Bartender's Choice Mule. Service was great.

Great burgers, wait staff SO friendly, wish we had discovered it earlier in the week.

By chandler56 |

We had their basic burgers and some craft beers. Our waitress suggested ordering half and half when we each preferred a different kind of fry! Love the open air dining! Too chilly to be on the patio, but can still enjoy the air while dining. Friendly staff!

Great food, great atmosphere

By lchilds72 |

We took our family, including three teens, and had a great time. My husband and I enjoyed the drink specials while all of us had wonderful food. The Cobb salad was amazing. Service was spectacular. Great place to eat, hang out and watch the game and still enjoy really great food.

Excellent burgers! and really good service.

By Ellen M |

The burgers are 100% grass fed organic and they have a fantastic variety of toppings. They even had a gluten free bun option.

Very friendly

By TPayne |

Great food, service was quick and the servers were very friendly. A fun location only one block from the beach.

Great burgers, friendly service

By PennsylvaniaKat |

Visited here on the recommendation of friends. What a find! It is an institution of sorts in this town. Small with open-air and outdoor seating with the best burgers in San Diego. Great and friendly service from Adam. Can't wait to return. Do not miss when in town!

Can't fault it

By John M |

Having looked at the reviews we thought we would try it. Not cheap, but excellent quality and service. Thanks Adam for being a great server. Made good suggestions so we didn't over order. 1 beef burger and 1lamb burger, both absolutely gorgeous, served with a few crisps so we had thick chips and onion rings as a side, perfect. Would definitely return if we are back in the area.

Great Food and wonderful customer service

By Rebecca H |

We really enjoyed our meal here, huge selection of burgers and plenty of beer to choose from. The burgers were fantastic quality and so were the sides. I had a range of vodka mules and the sangria both were very tasty. The service was really kind and attentive. We would return again 😉

New Zealand in Pacific Beach

By gzau |

Bare Back gril is a New Zealand themed bar/restaurant in Pacific Beach. It is located one block from the beach. The staff is friendly. We had the NZ meat pie and fish and chips and both were good. Recommended.

Pleasant Atmosphere and Hearty Food!

By NayNay_Carlos |

Burgers were tasty, thick and delicious. The fries were thin, well flavored and excellent. Outdoor patio was lit, warmed at night and in a pleasant atmosphere.

Great place just down from the Beach

By ros_C16 |

We popped in for a drink and after reading the brunch menu ordered some food. The avocado toast was outstanding, probably the best I’ve ever had. So tasty and loaded with healthy veggies and greens on the side. The breakfast burrito was fab too. Can highly recommend.

Great burgers but terrible chicken nuggets from the kids' menu

By editamartone |

We rated only three stars because of the food that came from the kids' menu. We loved the burgers but hated the chicken nuggets that we ordered for our two kids. The chicken nuggets that we ordered were really questionable. They tasted like fish fingers and store bought lowest quality frozen chicken nuggets- very surprising for a restaurant that makes such great burgers. One recommendation would be to take the chicken nuggets of the menu or make your own!

Time tested tastiness!

By Breffni B |

This place never disappoints. The flavors are unique and delicious. Never can get enough of the wasabi aioli. They have a lunch deal right now where you can get a burger or sandwich, fries, and a drink (yes even a beer) for $12.95. Bargain. Enjoy!

great food

By mcarter17 |

make sure you try the sauces for the burgers and fries. awesome!! fun atmosphere and great time . the staff were very kind

Great food and atmosphere

By joburglaura |

Thursday night was slider night! Great way to try a variety! Nice vibe - good food! Service quick! Very friendly.

Good family option

By JOdintz |

We are in town for a family vacation. Bare Back Grill caters to all types of eaters. Food was delicious (tater tots to share was a huge hit). For adults, there is a great selection of beers and cocktails. Very low key and a great option for a family meal. Excellent service.

Yummy food. Nice beer list. Decent service.

By TankerT |

If you're looking for some local beers, and a good burger, this could be your place. Family friendly, and prompt service. Not too far from the beach. We were here off season, and they were busy. So, likely very busy when more tourists are in town.

OMG, Burgers to Die For

By Michael M |

I'm kinda a burger fan, and like to post about the best. This place is one of the best. I had a perfectly cooked medium Guac burger with all the fixins that you really couldn't beat, other than the $12 price tag. My wife had a blue cheese (pictured on their website) and she was raving about it. We both ate half and zapped the leftovers for breakfast. FF were perfect. I would definitely return to this place. Plus great draft beers

Organic and good!

By BobbiJG |

Hotel staff recommended this spot - and it was great. Burger prepared perfectly and decent beer selection. Quick service, local and clean. Open air and fun little spot with surfing in tv’s. I would come back here for sure.

Much better food than places right in beach

By eileen i |

We stopped just for drinks after wasting money on food at another place. We just ordered pretzel which was good but could see all the other food being served and all looked amazing. It’s just in block in front beach with lots of people watching and definitely will be back on our next trip.

Great Burgers and drinks, but pricey

By Kimberly85044 |

We rented a beach house in Mission Beach and wanted to grab an easy dinner. We chose this place because my inlaws are Vegan and they had veggie burgers. The food was great, but pricey. A regular burger (without fries) was $10. I had an Ahi Salad for $15ish. The drinks were also a little pricey, but good. We had kids with us and they had kid sliders. I could have probably divided it and given each kid a slider...the meals were to big for my 6 year olds. The atmosphere was more bar like than restaurant, but it was fun and food was good.

Great Food, Great Price, Great Ambiance

By dynamicmiss |

My husband and I were staying at a nearby hotel and came here for dinner. The burgers and craft beers were amazing! Great staff also!

Very good beers

By Gianpiero M |

Very nice place with an excellent choice of beers. You can choose between several pilsners, pale ales and belgian style beers. I did not eat but menu looks interesting and comments of people having food were very positive expecially on burgers

Average burger joint. Nice atmosphere and local.

By Arod01 |

We were excited to try this out as burger selection looked amazing. Location is great and convenient. We picked out burgers and they both came our wrong, too difficult to find our original server to change and we sucked up the $4 price difference. The burgers were also very DRY. Probably won't go back to a burger place and pay nearly $100.00 for what we got.

New Zealand Treat

By Mike M |

First time for me for the two Classic New Zealand Meat Pies and Chips and they were a tasty treat that I would recommend. We sat at two of their outdoor tables to do some people watching and enjoy the beautiful San Diego weather. Polite, efficient and friendly wait staff.

Great burgers with healthy ingredients

By Mike4mula |

I tried out Bare Back Grill last night and was treated to some great food. All meat is 100% organic, all buns are baked daily locally, and all vegetables and produce are from local suppliers & producers. They had 8 beers on tap and 6 were local brews, and one was from Chicago. They also had bottled craft beers from New Zealand. I had the Hogs & Heffers burger (bacon burger) with sweet potato fries. Outstanding and cooked to perfection. The fries were topped with blue cheese, and there were too many for me to finish. Atmosphere is beach funky, and can be loud due to echoes, but the food was great, and the service was excellent.

Food better than bar food

By Susan C |

I did not expect the food to be so good here with it being a bar, but these burgers were possibly some of the best burgers my husband and I have ever had. I got the Patti M'Melt and he got the burger of the month which was a stuffed turkey burger with cranberry and apples. The bar was a cool atmosphere right by the beach. This is the perfect place to stop for a beer and burger after spending some time in the sun.

A great spot for locals and tourists

By billbyrne |

Craft beer + great food + great service = smiles all around. This place has become a rock-solid go-to for me in the last couple of years and a spot in North PB that more people (from locals to PB tourists to 'real' tourists) should enjoy. For visitors / those here during the day, the location is right off the beach and you CAN bring your kids in here for lunch, as well as 'come as you are' if you're in your boardshorts and a hat. Ample seating and a small outdoor patio (which you can eat on too) if you want to people watch or get some sun. At night, it's more of the same, but better. Bare Back is a great place to jump off your night with some grub or spend a few hours at while catching up with old and new friends. It's casual, but not a 'dive' in the sense that it's trashed, smells dank or there's a bunch of crap all over the place. You can bring your folks here for dinner, a date with a nice young lady or just hang out with the fellas. There's always a friendly vibe and room to walk around without it having that empty feel. The later it gets, the more people are there for drinks than food, but they do serve pretty late into the night. It's not a 'sports bar', but there are TV's showing whatever popular games are on and usually a surf video or two. Tables free up quick and it's well worth the rare, short wait to get seated. The craft beer list rotates as soon as one keg runs dry (which is awesome) and there's something for everyone on tap, including Bud Light if that's your taste. For those into craft cocktails, they have those here too and their version of the Mule (served in a copper mug) seems to be a favorite among many. I'm a beer guy though and they definitely come through in that department. And while people rave about the burgers, the Dirty Jerz chicken sandwich is usually my go-to on the menu. Small outdoor area that's also dog friendly.

Kiwi fun in Pacific Beach

By Alison B |

Walked in for lunch today 05March Thursday. Friendly welcome to sit anywhere. A few small tables and some communal benches. Also bar and small outdoor area. Was attracted because I like all things "Kiwi". Both servers were friendly and efficient. Lunch crowd was mostly 20 something with a few older tourists. I had the special Queenstown burger, fries and a beer $13. Husband had the fish and chips and a beer. Burger was ordered medium rare and was really, really good. Fish served with steak fries and the haddock was moist and tender. Batter was slightly soggy and tended to fall apart but tasty. Victoria Pilsner was very good. The menu is inventive and varied. Organic meats and vegetables and locally sourced. Fabulous Moscow Mule menu also.

Homemade buns and Grain feed beef and great local beer!

By MandRSanchez |

We ate here as a quick bite with our little ones. Not a kid friendly place but if we didn't have the kids would definitely be enjoying this place! Our waitress was nice and the burger was Awesome! It's served on a homemade bun and the beef is premium grade "really good"!! A little pricy for a burger but you get what you pay for!

Very good burgers & fries

By John P |

This is kind of a hipster haven in Pacific Beach. I had the best Pattie Melt I've ever had in my life and I am a Pattie Melt aficionado. Great fries and cold beer.

Best Burgers and Saturday Mimosa Deal that can't be beat!

By Aboardinpa |

We stayed in Pacific beach for 3 nights and went here twice for lunch and again on Saturday morning for mimosas- 50 cents each at 10 and they increase price by 50 cents ever half hour for a few hours! Amazing wasabi mayo, fries and burger options. I'm not a beer drinker but they have many on tap to please a wide range. Fun atmosphere with inside and outside seating options. Wish I had a Bare Back Grill where I live!

Loved the food and service!

By Mark E |

Small place near ocean. Was told they have great food so went for breakfast. Was not disappointed. They have a small patio outside if you have dogs which we did. Great selection of breakfast foods. The best for me is that they have tater tots! Outstanding. Hope to return soon.

Mmmm good!

By InquisitiveTessa |

This is a great burger place, even if you're ordering the chicken variety (aka, Hot Chicks). We've taken out of town friends there last Sunday and today and everyone has left happy each time. My friends have had different burgers: Queenstown Fav (after the original Fergburger, if you've been to Queenstown), Hogs & Heffers, Patti M'Melt and the Hot Chick Meso Tasty. Last week I had the Bare Lil Lamb minus the BBG Sauce (because I'm highly allergic to tomatoes) with a gluten free bun and it was delish. Today I had the Lambalicious without a bun and that was a crazy good meal without the bun...I'm sure it would be yummy with a bun. We had a small order of steak fries to share at the table (for 4 people both times) and it was plenty for us. The atmosphere is very casual and relaxed. It's an open-air restaurant so you feel like you're eating outside even when you're inside. There are tv's throughout that have surfing going on so you definitely feel like you're at the beach (it's only a tenth of a mile away at the most). It has a bar, so you can get local beer and others on draft as well as a few cocktail choices. Service is great...all the staff are friendly. And the food is Mmmm good!

very disapointing

By yojo2015 |

Food was dry and not worth the price. i would really recommend going somewhere else. there are a lot of other places around with better food and better prices. Oh and customer service wasn't that great either. they tried to charge us for drinks we didn't order and wouldn't believe us and then they gave our credit card to someone else.

Love this place! Come back every time we're in town.

By Kristin T |

Great little sports bar with yummy burgers and fries and good drinks. We love the open windows and outside seating. Great after the beach when you are starving and need a cold beer. Easily accommodates kids and families.

OH MY! The best burger ever

By crosscountrytraveler |

Excellent!!! Loved everything about this place. Nice atmosphere. Friendly waitstaff! This place just raised the bar as to what a great burger should be!! It was a hard choice and I was not disappointed in the least but I have the feeling I would have loved any of the burgers on the menu. Oh, and I forgot to mention. These burgers are huge!!! You must try the foccacia bun.

Stick with the burgers

By Patricia B |

The Patti Melt was the best burger that I have ever eaten. They also have a burger named Joe Average (or Average Joe), and my husband says that the name should be reserved for the grilled bird sandwich which he thought was just average. Can't beat the sweet potato fries though!

Great Sunday Fare

By John B |

We visited this very friendly pub around 10 am and enjoyed our visit. The feel is New Zealand meets US. Standard fun fare for lunch and breakfast and some down under stuff like Lamb Burgers and Queensland Beef Burger. All really good and well prepared. Fun and friendly place in a great location.

Closed for renovations

By LBJ66 |

This restaurant is closed for renovations. Was excited to eat here and drove there and searched for limited parking only to find they were closed. Very disapointed. Website did not say they were closed. Bad business.

Perfect burger place

By simon o |

Organic meats, tasty small salads and great beer. We ate thier three times in a week and it was consistently good.

Good burger, poor value

By cetecea |

My husband and I truly appreciated the volume and the choice of music. Most restaurants like this play the music so loud that you can't enjoy a conversation while dining. We thought that the Guajo Loco was tasty and had a great heat. The Pollo Parmesano was disappointing. Both were the same price of $12.9.For that we expected more than the burgers (which were not large,) three small pickle slices and some potato chips. When we returned home, we both enjoyed a large salad to satisfy our hunger. Most of us work very hard to ear our pay.Paying these prices for so little food is not a good value and does not leave me satisfied or content.

Mission street gem

By Leslie D |

We found this restaurant while walking down Mission looking for lunch. It was Sunday midday and the Charger game was just coming on TV and most restaurants had a huge wait. The large windows were open to the street and we could see a few empty benches available. The inside was more sports bar than restaurant, but we ordered wings and chopped salad and we're pleased with the food. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a restaurant within walking distance from the beach.

Yummy!

By JoyNCH |

Went with my husband and 8-yr old daughter. All of our food was flavorful and delicious; I got the steak and chips - so good!! They also had a good selection of tasty items for those who didn’t want tacos or burgers, which I found to be hard to find along Ocean Ave in Pacific Beach. We were attracted to this place because of the location to our hotel, and for its upscale, but laid back, look (it looked different from the typical bar/restaurants in PB, meant to attract college kids). I liked the ambiance inside, but wasn’t crazy about the table layout. I felt it was hard to find a condo table for 3-4 people without having to sit at a bar table or share a table with another group.

We shared a great hamburger

By Laurie48 |

We went to the Bare Back Grill with 12 people. We were able to get a table that just about seated everyone. Service was efficient and our party of 12 ordered many beers and a variety of menu items. Our hamburger was ordered on the medium rare side and it came that way and was juicy. We will return. If you get there early and have a party they will take a reservation for you and when a large table is ready you can be seated. There is also an outside area to sit and order.

Really Good Exotic Burger

By TorpedoKonrad |

Bare Back Grill makes really really good exotic Burgers, there not the usual burger, its more like another style of burgers. But i like it because every time the same burgers is boring. So i went there to try an exotic burger :) and i was not disappointed. Nice and quick service. You have a great choice of burgers you can take and, thats what i liked the most, if you take a burger with cheese, you can choose between 5-7 cheese sorts. Also the beer selection is very good. So for me not the best burgers in San Diego, but a really good alternation to the regular burgers. Before i forget it, its 20 seconds from the beach, so you can go from the beach there to take a small lunch.

Great Quality Food

By Exploration729404 |

Went here for my wifes birthday dinner. Service was amazing, food was A+ Quality kudos to the chef! Went in arround 7pm, all sit down tables were taken. Theres very few inside tables for familes, bar stool like seating at the bar and along the back wall by were we were. Prices are decent for the quality of the food, two meals with drinks came out to about $50 with tip. This is more for your fine dine meal though. Service was A+ Meal correctness and quality was A+ Ordered a lamb burger cooked med rare and it was done to perfection which usually is always messed up when ordered like that. Wife ordered a vegie burger and she said that was cooked perfect too. I would definetly go back here and order the same thing, that flavor was amazing and will be remembered. If you're in the area definitely stop by and enjoy!

Great find

By Nikked |

Burgers are delicious and have a good variety to choose from. Good atmosphere. Offer a variety of beers.

Loved the Meso Tasty Grilled Chicken

By mjr1207 |

Three of us split two sandwiches and sweet potato fries. We had the Meso Tasty and the Cluck and Squeal. Both were good but the Meso Tasty was excellent! Service was good and atomosphere was fun.

One of the best Burgers I have ever had!

By Chris T |

Popped in here for lunch....as recommended by friends. We both opted for the same burger which we don't normally do. They have a lunchtime special which included fries and a beer. The burger itself was one of the best I have had. It was strange that it didnt come in a normal burger bun, but that just made it more intriguing. The meat was sooooooo good. Couple that with the cheese, pickle and sauce and WOW... a taste sensation. Sometimes a gourmet burger can be quite sloppy....not this! Perfectly cooked and served. If you want a great burger....visit here

Surprising high quality, delicious lunch!

By Leslie D |

Little corner restaurant in PB with outstanding food and service. My husband enjoyed a burger with bbq and pineapple. I had delicious fish and chips. Reasonably priced too.

Very Good restaurant in PB

By bubfn |

We ate here several times while in the area. We ate lunch here as well as dinner/happy hour. The food/drinks/service were great. I recommend it to others and will for sure go back!

Sweet Potato Fries

By LAFUN |

This is a New Zealand style cafe, and about a block from the ocean. They have about 10 burgers to choose from. Of course, I got the spiciest (Kiwilango) which wasn’t spicy and needed to have extra hot sauce added (shocker). Their sweet potato fries were the best part, with blue cheese on top. (Here vs. their other restaurant you have to ask for dipping sauce, which I highly recommend. One is like a roasted red pepper and the other one is a wasabi one.) Overall, for unique style burgers that have different options for your taste buds, I’d say this is your place. Plus there have BIG steins of beers for $5 on happy hour (if you like beer). What to order: Kiwilango, add extra jalapenos, and extra hot sauce, with sweet potato fries, and maybe a side of avo? 😉 #avocadooneverything

Great bar with good vibe!

By Cbush44 |

We visited just for drinks, after leaving the bar across the road for bad service it was great walking into Bare Back. The bartenders we're all nice and attentive with good customer service. We also had the E legal dessert. It was amazing, best dessert ever. We were only upset we ate dinner somewhere else otherwise we would of had a burger.

Fun easygoing burger joint

By Samantha S |

This place has pretty good food and is located right on Mission Blvd. They have pretty good beer on tap and good burgers. I really like their steak plate too - it comes with shoestring fries and a little salad. My friend also LOVES the lamb burger if you're inclined to eat lamb.

Great Burgers

By Bajajurel |

Very good burger, good selection of local craft beers, and good service. Open air feeling with view of strollers on Mission Blvd.

Great bar/grill with a cool name

By Keulio |

I visited Bare Back thanks to the staff at JRDN. I was a little unsure because of the name, but went anyway. The name is due to its New Zealand roots, and they have a sandwich named on the menu called "Wake and Bake" which is a slogan found on their tshirts. They specialize in "mules" and pretty much have combinations you haven't heard of. This is a great spot for some pub food or some unusual cocktails. Staff is very friendly and prompt.

Great food and beers on tap!

By jkabks |

Been here twice now and the place never disappoints! Beer selection is always great and the food is good quality!

Staff were awesome

Went for a quick dinner and was really happy with the food and service. Great place to take the kids (tween age). Wait staff were always topping up drinks and making sure everyone was happy with the meals!

Best burger in San Diego? I hope not!

By retired43 |

We got a recommendation from someone who works in the area & his co-worker's eyes lit up when the restaurant was mentioned so we were really looking forward to it. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! The fries were luke warm. The burgers were so so. The bread was ok. Nothing comes with the sandwiches unless you order the lunch special burger, fries, beer. One of us did but when the meals came they all had fries & we were charged the extra price even tho the other 2 eaters had water to drink. They adjusted the charges but wanted to argue about it. All in all not a very good experience.

Fun Grill

By KaerynK |

Very busy, noisy, but fun place. College and beach hangout. Terrific burgers. Not for the older crowd, per se -- bench seating. very noisy, crowded. Not a huge menu, but everything they served was good.

Best burger ever!!!

By dopplerdog |

Stumbled on this place by accident and had to share it with all. If you check out the website, what you see there is "really" what you get. I had the Kiwilango burger and it was packed full of flavor, beginning with the organic beef. Juicy, hot, made to order, fresh. Did I say juicy? OK, I'm in Texas but can guarantee if I ever get back to San Diego, this place will be the first restaurant I go to for lunch or dinner. The place has a lot of character, is small, perfect people watching perch and gets it gets crowded with locals - that's always a good sign. www.carebackgrill.com

Fun Find!

By Cindy Y |

We happened upon this place by chance and it was a tasty meal served w/a fun presentation. Food was delicious and plentiful. Drinks were strong - maybe a tad too strong but they did bring some additional juice to mix it down. Service was attentive and made excellent suggestions. Two thumbs up!

Fun place to eat!

By SillySable |

The reviews were accurate! The food was very tasty, the atmosphere was fun, the service was good! It was neat to see surfers on the TVs, but the music was a little too loud. It's nice to be able to talk with your family/friends, but the loudness of the music made that quite difficult. But, still highly recommend!

Nice dinner place . Good ambiance and good service ! We had a hamburger, turkey chili and chicken pot pie. Free pint of beer too !

Awesome Fish Tacos

By haakonh319 |

I had a half hour to kill while waiting to get a haircut, came in here and had some amazing fish tacos. They hit the spot perfectly, great service too.

Great food

By Felicia S |

Great food ! Customer service was great and our waiter was super knowledgeable and kind to us. We even came back for a 2nd day. I can’t remember if his name was Christian but he was so nice to us and recommended some great food choices.

Huge burgers

By Andrea S |

The burgers are delicious and huge...kinda hard to fit in the mouth....but that is a good thing. We got a small order of the sweet potato fries and it was large...glad we didn't get the large as it was perfect for 3 hungry adults

Delicious Burgers with Great Buns!

By Lynn M |

Used a Living Social coupon to try this place out and we were glad we did. We are always on the look out for a good burger on an outstanding bun. Bare Back delivered. Burger was pricy for just a burger; french fries were extra. With that said, I would go back when in Pacific Beach again. I had the Kiwilango and husband had the Queenstown Fave. We both liked mine the best. Fries were seasoned perfectly and one side order was plenty to share. Located on the main street with "garage door" type windows, which were open. Seating is at high bars or picnic tables. Wait staff was friendly and efficient.

Not worth the money

By MillerInman |

Took forever to get waited on when you are older. The young cute girls who came in after us were given exceptional service by the young waiters. Told the waiter I couldn’t have cheese so the burger was just ok but ordered their sweet potato fries and they have cheese all over them so had to pick through them and only ate a few. My husband’s burger was soaked in mayo and mustard and even after he wiped it off the bun was still soaked and he didn’t like it. His regular fries were so peppery that those didn’t get eaten either. The waiter did come back and asked how it was and my husband said fine, so in their defense they couldn’t have made it right. But the bill came and it was over $50 for 2 burgers/fries one pop and one ice tea.

Save your money

By iamstarving |

I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Sanitation is questionable, service is bad, burgers are ok, fries are too thin and dry. I sincerely hope san diego has better burgers to offer to the community. I would never go back there.

Mouth watering lamburger.

By travelguyxyz |

In addition to some the best beef hamburgers around, the Bare Back has a truly scrumptious lamburger with a few special sauces and add-ons. The sweet potato fries are excellent.

Called in here for dinner after quickly unpacking. Great staff and really tasty food. Lots of great burgers and fantastic choice of beer.

Delish Sunday brunch in Pacific Beach

By Missy L |

We have visited Bare Back for brunch several times and we keep coming back for the great food and the Sunday mimosa that start at $1 at 10 a.m. and go up in price 50 cents each hour. On our most recent visit I enjoyed the Crabby Bennies (crab cake benedict) which had a lot of crab topped with perfectly cooked eggs and a lightly spicy chipotle hollandaise sauce. I didn't remember from previous visits that the benedict started with an English muffin but this time it did. It didn't add much to the dish so I scooped the crab cakes and eggs off which were just fine on their own. The dish comes with a side of tater tots which seems odd for a breakfast but turned out to be a yummy addition. My friend had an absolutely delish plate of tater tots topped with biscuits, fried chicken, eggs and gravy. It was a gut-buster that is worth the calorie content! The breakfast menu has changed recently (probably during the spring remodel) and the shrimp and grits that I loved is not longer offered on the menu. We love this neighborhood favorite where the servers are fun and friendly and the food is always excellent. The restaurant has a small patio where you can relax and enjoy the sweet ocean breeze, and the front of the restaurant facing Mission Boulevard is generally wide open so that you can enjoy the street scene. This is a very casual place so drop in any time and bring an appetite.

Yes it is the Best Burger

By RC K |

Some of the combinations on the burgers may look strange, but they work. The amber house draft was also very good and reasonably priced.

too full!

By Lynne J |

Had a great meal on St Patrick's day in this small restaurant - super great staff and too much food for us to handle but well worth the visit! Great meal!

Seems to have changed management and cook. Not as good .

By Holli M |

This used to be a fav of ours but last year started to change. This year(Feb 2018) was very inconsistant. The burgers where not great all ordered the same ones some had to much mustard while another had no mayo others had it ozzing out. Just not the quailty it used to be. Plus the price went up for less quality

Great chow!

By pbhomey |

I live in PB and I like to eat at many local restaurants, and this one, is one of my favorites! Great burgers and New Zealand favorites.

Quality cuts of meat on offer

By GlobalGrappler |

Went to Bare Back my first night in San Diego and managed to get myself a healthy feed after training, and ended up back here a couple times during the month too.

Great burger!

By Pascal R |

I lived in san diego for 3 months. Just loved the food there. Organic NZ beef, very tasty and fresh. In my opinion the best burger in san diego. Good value for the money. Friendly and helpful stuff.

Great food and happy hour!

By madams617 |

Found this place near our hotel whe staying in PB - showed up in time to take advantage of $4 well drinks for happy hour...the better find, though, was the $4 food specials. We had their chicken tenders with a house-made sweet/spicy sauce. Chicken was crispy and the sauce was to die for! I would have bought a bottle of the sauce if they sold it. Also had a bulleit whiskey mule that was mighty tasty. Decor was nice, service was friendly, and great for people-watching. Definitely recommend this place, as well as their sister property Queenstown Public House in Little Italy.

Excellent Food!

By Laura |

Every year when my family and I visit PB, we always have to eat at the Bare Back. They have the BEST french fries!

Surfin Burger Joint

By Bill J |

Near the San Diego beach with surfer video, great Queenstown Fave burger, lots of great craft beers, and friendly staff. Locals hung out here as well as visitors from the lower 48. I think a big group was here for a pro football game.

Excellent food

By myroes |

We had take out burgers and fries. $34 for two - yikes! But very tasty. We got one large fries between us. Too generous. We would have been fine with one small between us.

Excellent burgers

By Ryan F |

Had the smash burger and sweet potato fries. Great service and excellent food by the boardwalk. What more could you ask for

So good we went back the next night!

By Paul A |

The food here is very good quality - but the service is even better. I couldn't decide what beer to have, so I was brought three types to try free of charge. The wine was top notch (try the Sauvignon Blanc). The servers had a real interest in the customers and made us feel very welcome - so we went back for a second night. Thank you!

Tourist spot

By Patricia F |

Great friendly service, a little pricey but a nice vacation stop for lunch or dinner. Just steps away from the Ocean. Also serves alcoholic drinks. Nice gathering place on the patio.

Great everything

By TomSawyer81 |

We visited Bare Back twice in a two-night stay in SanDiego - it was that good! Great burgers, great sweet potato fries, great selection of beers, great sounds and awesome service! If you are in the Pacific Beach area, just go!

Great local bar with awesome burgers.

By zvelivis |

My girlfriend and I got into PB late and wanted to grab a beer and some food. As I was checking different spots on yelp we had just walked up to Bare Back. They had a great beer & burger selection. We were seated promptly and our waitress took our drink orders. I wanted to try the flight and it was a good call. I enjoyed all of samples. I had a burger and really enjoyed it. My girlfriend had an order of chicken fingers. They had a spicy sauce on them which she didn't care for but I thought it was pretty good. I think she was expecting them to be plain. Two of my cousins live in PB and they agree its a good locals bar.

Pleasant spot for beer and burgers or fish

By Jeanne J |

We had one of the draft beers, skipped the stein special of the day. Dinners came on wood plank plates. We were there for the fish and chips. The cod of the online menu was now haddock which was nicely cooked and tasty, and slightly pricier than online. Fries were thick cut, tasted like potato. Calamari was plentiful, lightly coated and delicious. Two of us had burgers, the basic one and a bavon burger with avocado. These both disappeared swiftly. Burgers came with potato chips. TV had football but wasn't loud. Garage door type windows would be nice on a warm day but we were there on a chilly rainy evening. Service was attentive.

Closest thing to Fergburger in San Diego

By Dan S |

Probably the best burgers in town and right next to the beach. Great mules and craft brews on tap. Great stop after a day on the beach in PB

Excellent burgers!

By Frida P |

We visited Bare back grill on a regular wednesday evening and the place was almost full. Given the quality of their food, I am not surprised. I agree with previous reviewers, their burgers are awesome!! I had a Queenstown Feve for $12 (avarage price for any burger) with sweet potato fries and it was delicious! Good sortiment of local beers on tap as well ($7 for regular size). Definitely recommended is you´re a burger freak !

Great Burgers!

By Sallyandmalc |

Lively and comfortable atmosphere, attentive service, great selection of beers to try. The PATTI M’MELT comes highly recommended. Kids loved it here too.

GOOD IF YOU LIKE ORGANIC MEAT

By sunnycj |

My husband and I were not impressed with this restaurant at all. All the burgers are organic and you definitely pay the price-$15 for just a burger and a side of potato chips. Appetizers were pricey and the selection is just not there.. We had a drink while looking at the menu and ended up leaving and not eating there due to price. We went to Duck Dive next door and had a great meal for less.

Fun atmosphere and variety of foods

By thilokoenigsberger1 |

Nice bar/ American Restaurant with nice variety of burgers and a great rotating draft beer selection; The venison burger was really good, also liked their sweet potatoe fries

Hamburgers with a Kiwi Flair

By MN_Traveler55372 |

The Bare Back has a New Zealand theme to it. Lively atmosphere with good music -- but not blaring so loud you can't talk. Service was very good. Food delivered hot and fast! Hamburgers and fries were on our menus for the evening. Lamb hamburgers aren't found everywhere. Thought they might be a little dry, but couldn't be more wrong. Great flavor. Very juicy. Nice selection of local beers and very reasonably priced!

Great french toast, but no view.

By cwt |

The french toast is excellent, probably the best I've had anywhere! Service was good. I wish they opened earlier for breakfast. Located on Mission Blvd., so no view of the ocean.

Delish!

By Kim D |

We popped in here for a very early dinner. What a neat place. Happy hour was just starting and our server pointed everything out that was reduced price. He was a really neat guy and very friendly. We got chicken sandwiches, onion rings to die for, and my son got the chili with the chips. So good, we wish there was a place like this close to home! Will definitely return if I'm in the area again.

Tasty menu

By BillandStef |

When you really want to enjoy a burger, a very good option. Along with different fries, beer selection, and friendly staff. Can get very loud though, so be prepared.

Great meal!

By Curiosity722100 |

My meal was fantastic . Family agreed . Friendly staff , quick service , fresh food . 3000 miles away now, but when I return I'm heading straight there , and their queenstown restaurant !

Good, cool deal

By DrPandV |

Popped in for an early dinner and a beer. Top guy served us. Very friendly, and the food was good (maybe fries rather than chips with the burger, but hey?). Good beer selection. We say “yes!!”

For bar food, good!

By JBHmom |

For a bar, the food was organic beef and the moscow mules were great! We went there twice - and we would go again!

Great Place, Great Service

By Jerelissa |

On a recent visit to San Diego with another couple we had the pleasure of visiting Bare Back Grill twice, once for drinks in the evening and once for lunch. Both times we were very impressed. Both times we were immediately put at ease by the very knowledgable and professional bartender/manager/waiter (he was there late night the night before and back again to serve us during lunch). He obviously had a passion for what he did and was excited to tell us about their beer selection, new cocktail mixes, and the burger creations (all grass fed, local, organic beef) they had. The nigh life has a very chill ambiance where you could either sit down and have a conversation over drinks or get drunk with friends at the bar (probably end up spinning their drinking wheel game). The lunch we had definitely held up to the high standard they claimed. Perfectly cooked with fresh flavor and combinations of toppings that were thought through well and matched perfectly. Would love to go back if we are ever in the area again. I definitely recommend it. PS, forgot to mention. The restaurant is a block from the Pacific Ocean.

Great sweet potato fries!

By Rebecca M |

Had dinner here while visiting San Diego, busy beach bar with a laid back vibe. They had good drinks, including a fresh take on a Moscow mule which was delicious. They also had the best sweet potato fries I've ever had! Good service, we would go back!

Great selection of beer & food

By Erik |

Dropped into the bare back grill for a few sun downers, before going for a walk to the pier to see the sunset, great selection of beers during, the staff are very attentive & helpful. We had a very tasty cheese burger with organic beef, beetroot & jalapeno & the chicken tenders with the sauces on the side.

MMMMMM!!

By Cheryl W |

Best place to eat in Mission Beach. My husband had the Big, Bare & Dirty burger, it was cook perfectly! I had the french fries with the steak and mushrooms on top- oh my, it was delicious! The wasabi sauce they have has the best flavor too! They have several local beers on tap which is a bonus~ It was pretty busy when we went but the food came out very fast!!! Customer service is the best!! It's a small place but the food is amazing!!

Great hamis

By Schrag |

We very much liked the hamburgers and would go back soon again.....service was outstanding and fast. Good beer and wine. Enjoy it

Tasty and fun

By Sarah T |

The food, staff and drinks are great. Our favorite place we visited.... 3 times... During our PB trip. Highly recommend!

OMG love these burgers

By TannyCat |

I'm no burger expert, but I do know that when I am involuntarily making "mmm"ing noises at every bite that something good is going on. Maybe for fanatics it's not the best burger, I don't know, but I would eat here time and time again. Bring it to London!!

Picky eater

By Morgan B |

My husband is super picky about how his food is cooked and what is on his burgers! The burgers here cannot be beat! Cooked to perfection and absolutely amazing. Sweet potato fries are delicious!

Awesome food with a fun atmosphere

By Denise D |

We spent the day on the beach and wanted to eat fresh, healthy food for dinner. I had a tasty mahi mahi sandwich-maybe the best I've ever had. It's a great atmosphere too with reggae music and surfing videos.

Yum, perfect burgers.

By Elizabeth A |

Im a bit of a burger snob, and I really liked the Pesto and Pepper Chicken burger. Im not really a pepper person, but it was perfect with the pepper. Im glad I took the risk. Highly recommend.

Delicious and beautifully presented food!

By Freedom60158557976 |

Walking distance from Pacific Terrace Hotel. Casual atmosphere with wonderful food and friendly service. Beautiful presentation of our meals! We will definitely eat here again on our next trip!

Great Ambiance and Energy - Great Food!

By The_D-man27 |

Used a Groupon and enjoyed an amazing burger while my wife noshed down an equally amazing ahi tuna salad. Huge portions and great selection of craft beers and wines. Casual, communal atmosphere with long share tables to meet the dining neighbours - the place was buzzing on a Sunday night with a ton of energy. Service was great and overall great value - will definitely return.

Unbelievable!

By Melissa B |

Stopped in for lunch and had one of the best burgers we've ever had! Great service, great prices, and terrific food!

Fun restaurant!

By Camille H |

Great food, fun atmosphere! Not your typical burger place. Higher end ingredients but not intimidating. We went on a busy Saturday afternoon. Service was a little slow but staff was friendly even though they were busy!

The burgers!!

By Monika G |

If you want a hamburger, this is the place. Add some sweet potato fries or onion rings, and you are set! The Bug Bowl salad was pretty tasty too, and the shrimp on it were perfecto! My husband had a grilled cheese with tomato soup, which was pretty good too. We recommend the "Rum Drink", and they have a full bar for other options. I would recommend for a family, but only until maybe 10pm as the restaurant can easily change into a bar scene. Good service and good food at a decent price.

Dinner

By MatthewJPeacock |

Very busy for a Wednesday. Food was good. Loud atmosphere. Service was ok but felt hustled and pressured to make a decision on our food order. Please give this review and photos a helpful vote.

Somewhat of a Family Restaurant

By PhilS85622 |

This is a New Zeland themed beer and burger joint. It is family friendly but is tight between tables so toddlers have tough time running around. Food is ok for a beer and burger joint. The BBC sauce might be too sweet for some tastes...Ditch it if you like tangy sauces.

Burgers are best after a day at the beach

By Amy S |

A very generously sized burger really hit the spot after learning how to surf at PB. Really crispy fries & there was a great burger, fries, & beer lunch special.

Outstanding burgers, restaurant pricing

By jpicunko |

In a cramped generic faux surf shack setting Bare Back delivers outstanding burgers at restaurant prices. Is it justified? Yeah, I went back again on my San Diego trip. I thought it was one of the top five burgers I've ever had. Fresh ingredients, juicy mouthwatering burgers. Just don't expect much ambiance. It's not a bar and not a restaurant. Hard to relax and enjoy a nice long meal. Some of the seating when it's busy is fairly uncomfortable stools or shared long tables. So go there for a quick indulgence bite. Don't bring a family of seven.

Delicious

By Maryanna B |

Very good food. I had the Soup and Sammie, which is tomato soup and a grilled cheese California style. It was delicious. My husband had the steak and chips and it was cooked perfectly. Great place!

Beer cheese soup was off the hook.

By LP C |

Stumbled upon this restaurant by accident and was glad we did. on a very busy Friday night we were able to get seating that was dog friendly on the patio. We had just salads, soup and fried chicken. All of which were delicious. The soup was especially so, as I would recommend you try the beer cheese soup and baguette.

Excellent food, bubbly beers, and great atmosphere!

By BobbyBleus |

Try their burger of the month. You won't regret it! Try their drafts. You won't regret it! Stop by before, during, or after a long day on the water and you WILL NOT REGRET IT! For example, this month's special burger was infused with cheese, pesto, and bacon OH MY! Add crispy fries and a stroooooong Stone IPA on tap - delish'!!!!

BEST BURGER KIWI STYLE

By 1baggo |

this was the first time I had been there but it wont be the last. I had a great time talking and watching people go by. the front of the building opens up for an open feeling. the place is clean, the food is great. try the New Zealand style lamb burger. I had the "hogs & heffers" with the lamb. IT IS GREAT!!! this one of the best burgers I have ever had. the onion rings are very good but need more onion. the burger is huge so go hungry. the place was packed but you can still talk. the lighting is low and so is the music. I was very surprised and very happy. if you have ever been to New Zealand or want to go, this is it.

Gaslamp Location

By TravelerRob64 |

We went to the Gaslamp location. Good quality and value. Great selection of craft beers on tap. Chef at this location is really good! We loved the $3 pint specials and the $5 food specials. Great option if you don't want the bother of a fancy resturant.

An enjoyable meal

By Ann W |

We walked into this restaurant in Pacific Beach without knowing anything about it. We were greeted the second we walked in. The open air seating within the bar/restaurant area made it fun, as the evening weather was gorgeous. The service was outstanding! We had a lamb burger and wake and bake swordfish sandwich. Both delicious.

Great Food

By Mary R |

Visited with work colleagues from out of town. Food was great but seating was a little more casual than expected. Also, several in our party requested medium well or well done hamburgers and for rare or medium rare. But the rest of the food was great.

Creative and Well Done

By bbradshaw_26 |

I was at Pacific Beach and decided to look for food nearby. Ended up at Bare Back Grill a couple of blocks away. Trying to be healthy so ordered a strawberry spinach salad and a grilled chicken cluck and squeal. Salad had a very light sweet dressing that was just perfect. The chicken sandwich had so many flavors going on and ALL GOOD. Delicious! I'd order a second one now if I wasn't so full! Great find! Go check it out!

Great Atmosphere in Pacific Beach

By 499kiwi |

Excellent food, New Zealand themed restaurant in Pacific Beach...right on Mission Blvd. Great burgers with a variety of options, plus NZ style fish and chips.

Big burgers!

By Fred E |

We visited for dinner and sat outside. Busy place and not a lot of room, but very good food. Burgers were delicious and cooked perfectly. Lots of beers and specials, too!

Best burger in a very long time!

By redpurplenteal |

We went on a Sunday afternoon and although it was packed, they found a place for us to sit right away. The food service was good and the burgers were excellent! The burgers do not come with fries so we got a small order of tater tots. Both the burgers were more than enough by themselves and the small order of tots were not small, but they sure were good.

Still one of the best burgers

By Tom P |

I haven't been to pacific beach for a couple of years, and there seem to be a lot more burger joints, but I still think Bare Backs has the best burger, fry, beer combination. The service was friendly and quick. Not much has changed in the past years, and thats a good thing!

Great burgers, great beer

By SteveFromBoulder |

A great IPA, a fantastic burger, shoestring fries, and great service. They feature organic meats, and the overall quality was outstanding. If you're in the mood for a burger, give this place a try!

Great burger

By peege04 |

Casual dining with a "kiwi" twist. They emphasize burgers and claim top burger in San Diego. The burger was excellent. Made with all organic ingredients. Service fast and friendly.

Once, Twice, Three Times a Hit

By Cat W |

Went here without reading RVs first as local to our holiday rental and liked look of menu. Great atmosphere on loud side but not intrusive. Staff friendly and attentive. Burgers very tasty and calamari starter also tasty and a generous portion. Hasn't disappointed so far so imagine we will return.

Nice place!

By Linnea N |

Really nice place with a great atmosphere, super friendly staff and great burgers! I had the tuna burger which was delicious.

Organic options and delicious!

By PetenSue2014 |

We went to several places to eat while visiting Pacific Beach and La Jolla and we can honestly say this was our best meal.

Super sliders!!

By Victoriawingell |

Having travelled from England, this was our second stop and wow we went there twice easily the best eatery in San Diego ! Jamie Oliver could learn a thing or two. The sliders' cooked medium were simply melt in the mouth, the girl friend had chicken and This is also epic. go for sure!!!

Pub food with Character

By Eric B |

Picnic tables and high top tables, sports bar TVs everywhere with some showing surfing porn. Good but not great beer selection. Very good burgers cooked properly, made of quality meat. Fun selection of ingredients! Pretty loud on Saturday night. No problem finding seating.

Great burger place

By gzau |

Bare Back Grill is on the northern edge of Pacific Beach. It has a New Zealand theme and features burgers, chicken, fries etc. Their fried calamari is very good with a light batter. I also enjoyed their fish and chips with the big piece of cod. It is crowded inside but service was reasonable. Pretty good place for a burger and beer.

Great Burgers at the Beach

By Vacationers62 |

Bare Back always has great burgers, and the fries are irresistable! If you like lamb, there's a lamb burger on the menu. Their buns are baked there and are delicious. The only ingredient I don't care for is the BBG sauce, but you can skip it! The garlic aioli at the table is awesome. On my last visit I tried one of their signature cocktails (Blood & Smoke) and it was UNBELIEVABLE! You can't go wrong here!
