Barra Barra Saloon is the neglected middle child of Old Town San Diego. Next door is the much more beloved first child, Casa De Reyes Restaurant: popular, energetic, people packed, live music, surrounded loving aunts and uncles, I mean cute little touristy shops, fun, beautiful and very successful. Barra Barra Saloon is actually owned by the same people, the menu is nearly identical to Casa De Reyes, and the food is just as good. Since Barra is less busy, there is usually no wait to get a table and the waitstaff are far less busy and therefore give you lots more attention. Ambience isn't as a epic as her older sister Casa De Reyes, but it's still nice enough. $23 3 Item combos are fantastic, no matter what you choose. You'll be stuffed! Give Barra a chance, especially if someone one in your group is "hangry" and must eat immediately.

Love this place. Eat there everytime in town. I have tried many thinhs on the menu but my favorite is getting the 3 enchiladas with 1 beef machaca, 1 chucken suissa, and 1 pork. Kids eat free too!

Great atmosphere cute patio great ambience amazing house margaritas, ordered the combo fajitas the chips come with a black bean dip and gray salsa

Excellent place for dinner. The kids eat free here with a paying adult meal. The food was delicious and the prices were great. The wait staff was amazing and super friendly. Loved it and will come back next time we visit.

Food was amazing!!! I recommend the pork tamale and flat bread taco!! Might be the best I’ve ever tasted!! Staff was so friendly! Would come back!!! First and Last stop on the trolley tour! Worth the walk through the historic state park.

I remember taking a tour from Los Angeles to San Diego in 1982 or so and we stopped for lunch at Barra Barra. I had forgotten about that until I visited again. I was staying at the Cosmopolitan Hotel and was given a coupon to BARRA BARRA and it ended up to be a wonderful meal. I am sure this place is crazy on Friday and Saturday nights but it was quiet and pleasant on a Sunday nigh. Just what I needed. The décor had the feel of old Mexico and service was great. I had the combo platter with 1 cheese tamale and 2 cheese enchiladas. You can request healthier sides to replace the refried beans and rice so I requested the black beans and corn salad. They did give me refried beans by mistake but did bring the black beans. It was a pleasant and quiet meal. Just what I needed after a couple of days of sightseeing. My friends had been to Old Town recently and had even recommended BARRA BARRA.

We sat in the patio, and has a great view of the courtyard of Old Town San Diego. We arrived on a Tuesday night, and it was Taco Tuesday night, Joe Pags from San Antonio would be proud. The special on Taco Tuesday has tacos for $3, $4, or $5. All were served on a plate and resembled a chalupa. They were soft tacos and you had a variety. $3 Taco was probably one of my favorites, the black and fish, the $4 Taco was the Colorado chili (it was way too salty, and therefore not very good), $75 Taco was he pineapple shrimp. Which was very flavorful but not a ton of shrimp. Kind of hard to get a lot of shrimp in a little taco. The frozen margarita did not seem to have a lot of alcohol, which I prefer. But if you're looking for a stronger drink then you may want to choose a different variety. This was part of the taco Tuesday $5 Margaritas apparently. As my friend put it, the waitress wasn't really big on questions. And that was the only drawback which was very minor considering you're in a Mexican restaurant on taco Tuesdays. Not too hard of a choice. The current restaurant right across the alley apparently is a little more fun, but this place was definitely well worth the visit. I understand they're identical menus and just different restaurants run by the same company.

Even though we are tourists to San Diego, when we travel we try to look for the restaurants the locals frequent, and this is one such place. Laid back and filled with friendly customers and waitstaff, we are glad we found Barra Barra! My husband had a carne burrito, and I had a chicken burrito, ($16 each) and they were both filled with LOTS of perfectly seasoned quality meat. The beans and rice sides were plentiful and delicious! The guacamole was great, also! We highly recommend Barra Barra!

Food here was much better, their competitor which was much busier served terrible food. Fajitas were really good, seasoned well, plus they have a combination meat variety which is a nice change, good horchata, burrito was very good and seasoned well. Warm by the fire heaters and pleasant service. People try this place before going to the cafe on the main street - there is no comparison. Will certainly return.

When eating in San Diego's Old Town, it is easy to begin thinking every restaurant has the same dishes. We were pleasantly surprised to see banana leaf wrapped entrees on the menu at Bara Bara! We shared a wrapped pork dish, cream of corn soup and a pitcher of margaritas! We dined outdoors and left filling full and happy.

Had lunch with a group of 14, seated right away with reservations and service was fast. Lunch specials were reasonable price. Service was friendly. The chips were warm and fresh. The bean dip that was served with chips was excellent. My drink was never empty and food was delicious and hot. Recommend this place

The restaurant is a little aged and beat up. The food was mediocre. The service was very nice although drinks from the bar took a long time.

We first went to this restaurant in Old Town San Diego several years ago when we visited. We loved it so we wanted to go back on this trip. The margaritas were delicious, but my hubby and I shared the fajitas, and they were the best fajitas we've ever had! Like EVER! We got the combo with steak, chicken, chorizo, and pork. I only ate the steak and pork and they both were to die for. The steak was seasoned well and cooked perfectly and the port was tender and juicy. Also, the presentation was so beautiful I almost didn't want to eat it! There was plenty for both of us, and in fact, we couldn't eat it all. The staff was very friendly and made us feel special by asking where we were from, how we liked San Diego, etc... We plan to go back every time we visit San Diego!

The shrimp fajitas are my recommendation! Beautiful garlic flavor with a plate full of beans, rice, guacamole and sour cream. Cold beverages from Aquas Frensca, Soda and of course the favorite of many the margarita. Continuous chips, salsa and beans made fresh and handmade tortillas by a cute little lady behind a glass surround barría. Enjoy!

Lovely location in Old Town San Diego. Wait time on a Friday night was only 30 minutes with text messaging to let you know when your table is ready so you can stroll Old Town while waiting. The mixed appetizer served three of us. Fajitas were perfection. The 'build your own' entree gave a number of choices. I had the white corn tamales and chicken enchiladas served with re-fried beans and rice. Only reason I didn't give it five stars was b/c my meal was cold when it arrived at the table. Our server was great - took it back and it was returned piping hot in under 5-minutes w/ no 'attitude' other than "I'm sorry it was delivered cold." It was delicious and just enough for a smaller appetite. Guacamole was obviously freshly prepared and they didn't stint on the amount.

We headed to the Old Town for a walk and got hungry. We had chosen Barra Barra because it looked so beautiful. All were just like in the old time. Good Mexican food, friendly staff.

First time eating at this restaurant. We ate outside on the patio. Atmosphere was great with a view of old town. I had the chili Colorado and my daughter had the Chimichanga. Both were great and the margaritas were good too.

This is in Old Town San Diego right by the Museum Tour facility. It is a great stop for some good authentic eats. They have some great appetizers. Also, very good soups and main dishes. I don't believe that you would be disappointed.

We went during Happy Hour on a Monday. I had a decent margarita for $5. It was a good size and tasted good. We both had the Happy Hour tacos (chicken, pork and vegetable options on Indian flat bread) and split a salad that was enough for the two of us. Nice ambiance with great bouncy Mexican music. We were greeted at our table with a fair sized basket of chips and both regular salsa and a tasty black bean dip both of which were replenished upon our request. Got away for under $24 not including tip. Only negatives were that there was only ranch or Caesar dressing for the salad, the menu selection list wasn't as extensive as we'd have liked (e.g. they had a chilli relleno with cranberries and raisins but not a regular version), and the tables' bases were large and didn't easily allow your feet to be in front of you normally. The bathroom could have been cleaner, too. All that being said, you could do a lot worse and spend a lot more elsewhere, but you probably don't want to go here for a special occasion. We'd go again but also would probably see what else is available...and there are lots in the vicinity.

The food was very good. The server was nice and efficient. The restaurant is very nicely decorated. There is plenty of seating indoors and a lot of seating outdoors.

My husband & I stopped here for dinner during our recent trip to Old Town San Diego, Despite it being a Friday night, they really weren't all that busy so we were seated right away. I highly recommend the Pork Tamale & the Carne Asada tacos (2 item combo), you won't be disappointed! My husband had the Carne Asada tacos & cheese enchilada (3 item combo) but never commented on the enchilada...........probably because the tacos were the BIGGESY we've ever had! It wasn't because they were on a regular sized tortila, it was mostly because they were filled with so much meat! I liked the tamale because the pork was spooned over top so the entire tamale was very moist. Oh, and beware the Spicy Mango Margarita.........it truly is spicy, but very good!

Service-slow. Young kid who seemed like his first night. Took forever for drinks, food, check. Food- Mediocre at best. Bland to the max. Had two large ($11.00) of the "best margarita" in San Diego and mostly mix, little tequila. Never felt a thing. Never again.

Great food and atmosphere. I loved how great the service and food was. Amazing. I will definitely be visiting here again.

We had the large $11 house margaritas and the 3 item combo. The margarita was tasty. There was salsa and delicious warm bean dip for the deliciously seasoned tortilla chips. The fish taco on Indian flatbread, the chicken taco also on the flatbread and the beef enchiladas were delicious, as was the beans and rice on the side. The chicken tamales were a complete dud. The "tamale" was a solid brick 2.5" thick of masa with chicken, sauce, and cheese on top. I have eaten a LOT of tamales, made a LOT of tamales and have NEVER seen one presented like this. Once we FINALLY had service, it was attentive. There must have been some confusion over who had our table because our server visited the adjacent tables several times before inquiring if our order had been taken yet. Our server even came out to the front as we left to return my iPhone (and credit card in the case!) to me!

Ate here with my wife while on holidays in San Diego. Nice setting, felt quite authentic with being set in the old town. Waitress was pleasant and helpful when we made enquiries about certain items on the menu. Food was nice, no complaints at all. Recommended if you like Mexican cuisine.

Enjoyed a casual work function here. The food was good. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It is located close to the trolly stop in Old Town Dan Diego.

This was such a treat - authentic delicious food, great drinks and good value. The menu included traditional items but also had interesting specialty items. The atmosphere was quaint and the service was good. Highly recommend if visiting Old Town.

We were seated on the patio and forgot about. People that came in after us already had their food and no one came to take drink order yet. When seated at the table, there was watered down soda on my seat, alot of it. Food came and it was kind of dry, and did not taste like what I expected it to, being in Old Town. Nice patio with heaters and outdoor fire pits.

Excellent Mexican restaurant that has large and well-kept indoor and outdoor spaces. The friendly and kind staff presents themselves with beautiful and typical Mexican clothes. I took the chicken with cream of beans, cheese and avocado (chicken mole) and I found it very tasty (rightly spicy). Be careful with the portions which are very generous. For dessert I had a coffee pudding with cream and cherry (flan) which was truly exceptional to say the least!! Fair prices and average for the area. Super recommended! Well done! 👏👏👏👏👏

We stopped here on the Trolley after a day long tour and were able to get right in. Chips, salsa and black bean dip were all very good. Seafood fajitas were excellent but huge huge servings. Having enjoyed the chips, salsa, bean dip and of course a house margarita--could have easily shared the huge meals. Great service & good prices.

Food was good. Nothing special. Waitstaff acted Ike they didn’t care if we were there or not. Won’t go again, to many other choices out there.

Good authentic Mexican food. Good service and prices were reasonable. Children eat free with each paying adult. Fajitas were really good.

The armadillo shrimp with the crisp bacon and stuffed crab was excellent. The margaritas was excellent also. Fast service and good food.

In addition to a great location in the heart of Old Town, this cafe/saloon serves good food in an laid back, casual atmosphere. One of my private marks for a good restaurant are the clientele; here for Mexican fare the majority of the patrons were Spanish speaking. Also, they have private function rooms so it's possible to have a private dinner or lunch meeting here.

Great to have a quiet dinner for two or bring the family is a place that can fit a few different settings and events to celebrate. The food was very good and the service great.

We used our discount San Diego restaurant gift cards at this restaurant with a group of seven. Everyone was very happy with their food. Margaritas were DELICIOUS! Nice ambiance and fresh air throughout restaurant. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was the delay in being able to pay our check. Apparently you can't get the advertised "free children's meal" if you use the discount card from Costco. This created a long delay. But food was great!

I love it. The food was delicious and the service was good. I definitely will visit it again next time when I visit San Diego

This is a great mexican restaurant in Old Town. Just outside the louder and crowded Fiesta de Reyes area of Old Town, I think this is a better setting for a more relaxing meal. Ouside patio is very nice and shaded. Food is delicious and so are drinks (very good Margarita and I'm not the biggest Margarita fan). Best of all is kids eat free when adults take an entree. That makes this, a terrific deal!

Quick and friendly service at this restaurant conveniently near parking lot. We were seated within 5 minutes without reservations. Our orders were taken promptly and we received the food within 10 minutes. The chicken fajitas were served sizzling! It was served with a chunky guacamole, pico de gallo, refried beans, Spanish rice, warm tortillas. We could hear the live band playing at Fiesta de Reyes, nextdoor, across the pedestrian path. So luckily, Barra Barra was not trying to play their own music too. Food: 5 | Service: 5 | Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Chicken Fajitas

My wife and i are big fans of Barra Barra in Old Town, and go there every time we are in town. The service, drinks, and food are always great! This last time we had our usual guacamole, along with a margarita, tequila, and a great draft beer. It is a tradition we wont be abandoning.

This place does not disappoint. This is the second time coming here on vacation, and it is always great. We were there for Taco Tuesday and had tacos $3-$5. There are a variety of choices, the fish taco, pulled pork, and vegetarian tacos were delicious. They have a few vegetarian options. Our friend ordered a chicken quesadilla, he loved it. Theu have great guacamole as well. The service is great and their Jamaica juice is a must try. Two tacos are filling for a big eater. You must stop here!

Went for a family dinner as wanted to try Mexican. The margarita drink is good. Tapas was ok only. Paella a bit of soggy side but taste was alright. Kids portion kind of small.

We stop here every time we are in old town. We have never had a bad meal and kids always eat free! The soup is awesome and so is the salsa!

Poor service and mediocre expensive food. The hostess was nice but after that the experience was less than impressive. The waiter was inattentive and seemed a bit put out that he had to wait on me. Perhaps because I was a single and didn't order extras. I was ignored for at least 10 minutes even though waiter kept passing by. No menu, no water, no recognition I was there. He seemed much more attentive to a couple seated after me - told them about happy hour specials and served them promptly. They ordered drinks and appetizers so perhaps he felt that table was more worth his time. Once he did come over, he apologized for the wait but then continued to mostly ignore me - it took forever for him to bring water and later took forever for the bill and then for him to bring back my credit card. The rest are aunt was not busy at the time. I ordered the shrimp fajitas, no bell peppers and requested they use as little oil as possible in preparing them - I asked they be "dry". I asked for corn tortillas. The waiter verified corn tortillas. When my fajitas came they consisted of 5 medium sized shrimp and onions swimming in a pool of oil and covered in so much garlic that I thought it was cheese. No bell peppers so that was a plus. Even after I scraped the garlic off all I tasted was garlic. I like garlic, but even after scraping it off I ended up with a rumble tummy due to the vast amount of garlic and oil. My fajitas came out with flour tortillas. I was able to get the attention of the hostess, since I didn't know when I might see the waiter again, and she very kindly switched them for corn tortillas. The small amount of Guacamole, rice and beans served with the fajitas was okay. The complimentary chips, salsa and bean dip was the best part of the meal. I had water to drink and my pre-tip bill was $25. I know at least 3 other Mexican restaurants in the area where I would have gotten a great meal and great service for less money. I wont be back.

I could've expected it that at such touristy place, everything would be a little over the top. The restaurant just didn't feel genuine. The food wasn't genuine either. My fajitas had big chunks of dry meat with just a few slices of paprika and one spring onion. Rice and beans were OK, but the overall flavor was bland. The plate came with only two soft taco, which of course forced me to eat the rest without. I am sure that there are better places in town that serve better.

We had the chicken tamale, chicken enchilada with mole, fish taco and guacamole. The mole sauce was delicious and the food was very good. The “beat margaritas” were excellent. Nice outdoor patio too.

On our tour to old town saloon we decided to have dinner. It was a pleasant evening so we decided to sit outside in open. Food was delicious and value for money, we ordered fajita chicken sizzler, chicken mole corn, stuffed salmon with crab and pizza of children menu. Size of portion was large and we found difficult to finish. Restaurent was children friendly and one children below 10 was free. Margarita was good, size was small. House red wine was good. Worth visit a repeat.

Sat outside on a busy Sunday afternoon. The portions are huge and the food was lovely, must agree the margarita is the best but dangerous in the sun! All the staff we dealt with were really friendly and would definitely eat here again if in the area.

We had a wonderful time and they treated our four year old daughter so nicely. Prices are wonderful and the food is amazing. We love going here and it hasn’t been our first time either. The manager is really nice and made our daughter a pretty paper flower because she was so well behaved. They truly make it an experience worth going back for over and over again. Always so clean too.

Visited San Diego old Town with my wife. We were welcomed by a Mexican lady. Service was quick and efficient . Our waiter was Daniel, and he took care of us in a very nice and professional way. Food was generous and really nice, but I think too big of a portion. Saw most of people taking doggy’s bags. I will recommend you the Nachos and margaritas.. really nice. Will come back . Thanks Daniel and the team

Sparse dining menu and food was okay. There’s better Mexican food in San Diego. Hard to get our otherwise attentive server’s attention when we were ready for our check.

Great food, great "house" margaritas, great staff! They are located in the center of Old Town San Diego. They have inside and outside tables and a patio bar section, as well.

Very authentic Mexican food: Gillian our waitress was awesome: explaining all the drinks and meals: we shared an appetizer sampler with margaritas and buzzing burros : food was perfect!! Sat on the patio: we will be back!!

We were a large group (11), yet the restaurant provide quick and efficient service for us. All food items were excellent, with generous portions. I particularly liked the carnitas and the flour tortillas. Those that had margaritas consistently commented on their excellent quality. Overall, we had great food and great service.

The food was very tasty and the service was excellent. I was seated quickly and the server was right there to bring me a refreshing margarita. I had a very nice experience.

We sat outside on the patio under the tree. The birds flying around were quite the entertainment. Ordered the house margarita and sampler platter...enough for 2 of us to share. Our server was attentive and friendly. Food was delicious, particularly the potato flautas and sea bass ceviche. Yum! Seats were comfortable and restaurant was clean. We were happy we chose this restaurant as there were many in the area. This being next to the Bazaar Del Mundo shopping area.

Old Town San Diego is such a fun place to visit! Restaurants are a wee bit limited, and it can be busy, but Barra Barra will take your number and text you when your table is ready. It's a large place with indoor and outdoor seating. There are heaters and a large fire pit outdoors for when it's chilly. 10 of us had a variety of food and drinks and everything was truly excellent: shrimp fajitas, tamales, paella, tacos. The portions are huge! Complimentary bean dip and salsa and chips. Our favorites were probably the blacked fish tacos and the carnitas tacos. The spicy margarita's, especially the mango spicy margarita are DELICIOUS. Strongly recommend!

Saturday night dinner with family....we have walked past this place many times and decided to give it a shot. Salsa had some kick...but after that - not so hot. Food was luke-warm, rice and beans on Carne Asada platter were cold....but meat and tortillas were hot; really? Service was pretty good and price was less than we figured....but food was worse than we figured. I think we will try another place.

We had high hopes for this restaurant which seemed like an authentic Mexican restaurant. We were here in the evening and just wanted something small. My husband ordered a pulled pork taco and I had deep fried ice cream. The complimentary chips were amazing! The best I have ever tasted. We should have stopped there. My husband's taco had so much sauce on it that it had leaked all over the plate and was practically swimming in sauce. He didn't even finish it, and it was a small taco. It was not very good. I had the deep fried ice cream which did not taste deep fried at all. It was just breaded ice cream. Hard as a rock. But still, ice cream is ice cream and it tasted ok but was not deep fried. Do not recommend.

We loved the historic location. The food was ok. It was pricey. The waitstaff felt a little less than concerned with us. We had drinks and appetizers and moved on.

We sat outside and shared crab-stuffed salmon with corn tortilla at Barra Barra Saloon. There was food from a previous diner's meal stuck to my place mat, so I flipped it over and was delighted to find the other side looked clean. Service was friendly but we often didn't see servers when we needed them. The price was lower than we expected considering we were in Old Town. We really enjoyed the festive atmosphere around our table. Overall a good value.

I love Mexican food, and Barra Barra completely filled my tummy! As usual, I got nachos and they were delicious. Salsa and guacamole were really good too!

At here after a long day. The atmosphere was very relaxing. We were served freshly made tortilla chips and I must say they were the best. I had the pork carnitas plate and it was outstanding. Highly recommend.

We always visit this place when in Old Town. The food is excellent. The portions are huge and there are lots of choices. The prices are excellent. The margaritas are great! It also has a nice atmosphere and you can sit inside or outside on the heated patio

After an hour or so walking round old town we stopped in here for a drink and ended up with compliment you nacho's dips and a Barra Barra Quesadilla along with a few beers and some nice conversation. All of the staff were attentive and knowledgable and really friendly and made sure we had a nice time here.

Decor amd setting was lovely. Food and service mediocre. Ordered taco salad with chicken. 3 small bites of chicken in the whole thing. Arrived with no dressing. Had to ask for it. My companion ordered quesadilla with chicken and grilled veggies. Lots of chicken, but veggies served as a separate dish instead of being put inside of quesadilla. When we arrived, waiter took order from tables around us, but kept walking past us. Had to flag them down. Too bad this left us a bit disappointed with the whole experience. Margarita, however, was delicious.

For a touristy spot I was pleasantly surprised. The $7 Margarita was a stiff pour, the black bean dip that comes with the salsa and warm chips was spicy and really good, and all out meals were excellent. Carne Asada portion was huge and super tender and delicious. The Armadillo Shrimp were large and very tasty, They come with a creamy tasty dipping sauce too. Prices more than fair and really big servings for leftovers! Will definitely return next time I visit.

Mexican food for people who don't like Mexican food. Margarita was a disappointment as well. Better choices around the perimeter of Old Town.

We planned to go to another restaurant in Old Town, but the wait was long. We checked in at Barra Barra, were told it would be about 20 minutes, but 10 minutes later we were being seated in a beautiful outdoor garden. Reminded me so much of being in Mexico. Loved it! Service was quick and gracious. Our server was very nice and accommodating. My husband had Carne Asada and I had a fresh tamale and Indian fry bread taco with pork carnitas. All was excellent, served hot, and was plenty of food!!! House margarita was great and kids eat free everyday. My daughters burrito was perfect size for her and was served with a small salad. I'm so glad we went here and if and when we return to San Diego, this will be top of our list to eat at.

I popped in here for a quick lunch while visiting Old Town. The service was fast and friendly. I ordered a house margarita which was very good, and surprisingly large given that I had only ordered the regular size! I had the sampler plate which was absolutely huge. I couldn't finish it but enjoyed it.

We haven't found a better bloody Mary in old town yet! Garnished with pickled green beans and served alongside a basket of warm crispy chips and steaming black beans and salsa! Yum!

First, this particular restaurant is located in Old Town San Diego and not La Jolla. Stopped here after strolling through Old Town located at the edge of the Old Town Historic State Park. I saw they had flat bread taco's for $3.50, so thought I would check it out. I ordered one pork and one chicken flat bread taco. They were both fantastic and plentiful amounts. Meal came with great chops and salsa as well as warm black bean dip. I ordered the happy priced margarita for $5, which was also fantastic. The atmosphere was fantastic on the terrace for the outdoor seating. To get 2 tasty margarita's (I was walking) and 2 heaping taco's with plenty of meat and taste for $17 plus tax and tip is nothing less than incredible. Good place to people watch people strolling by Old Town as well. I will come back here again when in town, no doubt. Not sure about any other menu items, but I really enjoyed what I ordered.

Looking for a satisfying Mexican meal but did not find it here. The food was almost universally subpar and high priced for what was served.

Enjoyed lunch on the patio at Barra Barra - you have to get the guacamole - best ever in a restaurant. i had the chicken green mole - i'd never had green mole - it was delicious but too much skin on the chicken (would have preferred skinless breast/leg). My companions enjoyed their fish taco and enchiladas. Very friendly service.

This is one of those hidden restaurants in Old Town San Diego. With so many restaurants to chose from in Old Town, you can miss it. But check them out anyway. The portions are quite adequate and "House" Margaritas are the best! They have a good selection of meals to chose from. Tuesdays are "Taco and Tequila Tuesday." They have both outside and inside seating.

After an amazing time visiting all of the historic building in old town, we ran into this restaurant. Best decision we made was to sit down here for lunch. The overall ambiance of the area was friendly and warm. The servers were welcoming, the time between ordering and getting your food was quick, and most importantly the food was OUTSTANDING! But make sure to save room for desert as well! This place is definitely worth stopping by if you have the chance.

Lovely, atmospheric restaurant with good Mexican food. I had the combination plate (taco, enchilada and tamale) which was excellent. There is a variety of tacos, etc. to choose from. The meal comes with rice and beans. The minute you sit down, they bring basket of home-made tortilla chips and two salsas, which I appreciated. There are many restaurants to choose from in Old Town, but this is the first one I came to and I was hungry an it was a good choice. If its a cold day, ask for a table or booth by the fireplace.

Very accommodating wait staff and super friendly. One of the few restaurants in Old Town that will let you bring your dog on the patio. Food is decent and the drinks are great.

My wife and I took the winery train tour (which was fantastic) it ended in old town at 7pm. We stopped at Barra Barra Saloon (2min walk from tour end). We sat outside at night they had gas heaters going to remove the chill in the night air and add a nice flare. Food in SanDiego can be very expensive. I was very impressed with resonable pricing at Barra Barra. The Mexican food here was great! Food portions are generous with a friendly and attentitive staff to go with it. I had two of their house margaritas (Im a big fan). My wife and I enjoyed the food, the atmosphere and my pocketbook enjoyed to resonable pricing. If you enjoy Mexican food then go here. This is a hidden diamond. Go to old town and go to Barra Barra Saloon. You wont be disappointed.

This restaurant is located in old town near a variety of other Mexican restaurants. It offers covered outdoor and indoor seating and bar area. The restaurant is quite large so you can find several different areas to sit. The service was attentive and the food was great. We had the fajita platter and tacos which were good size portions and included chips and salsa. This was a very nice place with Mexican decor close to the center of action in old town. A must try!

Lots of food. I had 2 fish tacos with rice and beans. Excellent service and food. My wife had a combo plate. Lots of tortilla chips. Enjoyed it much.

We were planning on going to happy hour here and were very happy. Nice margaritas, delicious and big happy hour tacos on great indian Flatbread, and super friendly help. The manager went out of his way to entertain and reward the good behavior of the little kids behind us.

Good service and food. Nothing spectacular but it was a good deal. Baja tacos probably the best with enchiladas a close second. Large and very good margaritas and decent sangria. Park over at the SD&G lot in the weekends as parking always a problem in Old Town.

There were 6 of us - 2 children and 4 adults. We were sat at the back of the restaurant so we were totally forgotten. Once service arrived and we placed the order the drinks arrived slowly. Then the server kept coming back every two minutes to find out if we wanted more drinks. The answer was - we were still drinking the first ones and were very hungry so were looking forward to getting the food. Especially the kids. We ordered a second batch of drinks, then a third and then after an hour of waiting for food we asked when we could expect our food. A manager was sent to tell us that they had had a large party so our food was delayed and apologized. My husband and I ordered salads - so how long would it take to make those. At any rate, the food arrived and it was inedible. The salads did not contain the ingredients it described. This will be remembered as the worst dining experience of our lives and we eat at a lot of places all over the world.

barra barra is very nice .it is maxican food . some food is spicy but good taste .it located in maxican area .

Had a really nice meal here - enchilada, taco and tamale combination. Was concerned it may be a very touristy place but the food tasted very authentic, service was very good. And kids eat free which is a nice feature. I would eat here again. They have a nice patio which provided a very relaxed atmosphere.

We dined at Barra Barra and were so impressed by the freshness and authenticity of the cuisine that we are still craving it. This restaurant is in the heart of the Old Town section of San Diego and makes a great destination for tourists. There's ample street parking all around. Don't miss the fajitas here. Awesome!

Beautiful location in the Old Town historic area. A lot of outdoor seating, and it's almost always the ideal weather for that in San Diego. The black bean dip they bring with the chips, to eat while you wait for your meal, is AWESOME. I could have sat there and just ate a big bowl of that. The enchiladas were very good, and the combo fajita plate was enough to feed 3 or 4 people (chorizo was outstanding.) Good value, indeed. Had the service been exceptional, this would have been a five-star (not that it was terrible, by any stretch), so let's call it 4 and a 1/2.

The food was interesting and delicious! Fidel gave us the best service!!! Right in old town San Diego.

This was restaurant was hard for me to rate. if I based it on Happy Hour food only, I would have rated it higher, however, as it was happy Hour I must include the margarita in the rating. This was easily the worse margarita we have ever tasted - lukewarm and tasting only of bad margarita mix. I don't expect the best drinks during Happy Hour but they did themselves an injustice by serving the drinks we had. Now to end on a happy note - the Indian Flat Bread Tacos were to die for and so were the Soft Corn Fish Tacos.

The restaurant was very crowded on Friday night. The service was a little bit slow. They served us very authentic Mexican dishes. The margaritas costs only 6 usd. Margaritas in shaker is only 9 usd.

Stopped by for a drink on a hot day and ended up with a couple margaritas. Facilities clean and bar tender attentive.

We were looking for something to eat early evening in the Old Town when we stumbled across Barra Barra and found they had happy hour from 3-6pm on select drinks and food. Shown to our table quickly and efficiently and drinks were ordered and arrived very quickly. We opted for the Indian flat bread tacos which were delicious. They also served free corn chips with salsa and refried beans. Excellent service and value for money regarding happy hour but I cannot comment on the main dinner menu.

The complementary warm fresh chips, salsa and bean dip were delicious with just the right amount of spice. Our server Gabriella was attentive, cheerful and efficient. The kitchen runner who brought the food put was good too. We had the chicken fajitas with flour tortillas and the carnitas with corn tortillas. Everything was fresh, hot and delicious. We dined on the shaded patio and enjoyed the Mexican music and breeze. The prices were not bad. $48 including 20% tip for two meals and two soft drinks. The only concern I would have is that this is a dog friendly patio. We never saw any but it would have put me off. There was a smoker but he walked on or it could have been an issue. Great food. Great service.

This was a mixed experience. Outdoor seating is nice but we were swarmed by sparrows swooping in for every empty plate. The service was friendly. I really loved the Salsa, chips and black been dip. I didn’t like the fajitas. They had inedible corn shells (only two for a huge plate of meat). The chorizo and chicken not very good - the carnitas were excellent. I thought the guacamole was too runny.

After walking around Old Town this was a quiet early afternoon location. I had plenty of great food but had to save room for the fried ice cream. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it.

This place is well worth the trolley ride. Not only can you enjoy the views of Old Town from the expansive patios but the food is really good too. Service can be a bit of a hit & miss affair but it was great this time. The menu looks expensive at first glance but it'll look like a steal when you see the portion sizes. We were three big eaters & not one of us could get close to leaving a clean plate! We had the fajitas this time but we've not had a poor meal here on any visit.

The truth I didn't think I would like Mexican style cooking but persued by three friends I went under the vines outside on a boiling 90 degree day, incidentally Mexico's indepence day. All staff in Mexican dress. I was wrong yet again! Perfect ambience in a full restaurant. My three friends chose differently to me, I had Milanesa de Arrachera (tender breaded skirt steak with pinto beanbs, panko and Mexican spices and bandero condiment). It looked great and tasted great as did my friends dishes. Not above a 15 minute wait, nothing too much trouble followed by a lady who I took to be the owner (she looked fabulous in her Mexican dress. She looked like a lady from a John Wayne western) thanking us for being there and was all ok. Yes thank you in was perfect and not expensive for San Diego. Thank you Team Barra Barra.

Stunning setting in Beautiful Old Town. Really is the jewel of San Diego. A beautiful place made even better by the staff and friendliness of the locals. We did not eat in Barra Barra but other peoples food looked fantastic! We just came in to have a drink and sample a traditional margarita. For $6, you can get a traditional Mexican margarita. It was absolutely to die for. Strong, but stunning flavour, and at $6 they are cheap compared to most other places in San Diego. You get a lot of drink for your money too. They don't skimp on the Tequila! The bartender was very welcoming and friendly, as was the whole atmosphere of Barra Barra and Old Town in general. Lovely place to visit, don't miss it.

Visiting old town, first time in 10 years, margaritas were fine, food was ok, have had better, nice setting a shame really.

This is our 4 visit to Bara Bara while visiting San Diego. We love it here. The food is always great and the service is good. Its a plus that kids eat for free as well. My kids are already asking when we can go back.

I love Mexican food but honestly at most places it's the standard offering. But Barra Barra is a step above what you'd expect. If not sophisticated dinning it does offer a refined version of Mexican food. There are lots of interesting choices on the menu and the presentation and preparation of the food is excellent. Yes, inevitably everything will come with beans and rice but they are staples of the cuisine and delicious. The portions are very generous. The setting is upscale Mexican but also relaxed and romantic. You can eat inside and out. Service is excellent and the waiting staff wear National costumes which adds to the charm of the restaurant.

Most things in Old Town are a little touristy & so, unfortunately, I think some authenticity is lost because of business/catering to crowds. That said, we were in walking distance of this restaurant and liked the look of the patio/space. The patio is really nice, shaded, and great for people watching. The wait staff was friendly, but clearly short-staffed. That is okay, we expected to be patient & our waitress was doing a great job juggling everything. The food was decent, we had the ceviche which was mediocre. The seafood enchiladas were tasty although they only gave us 2 corn tortillas. They did bring out 2 more when we asked although it took some time. Drinks (skinny margarita & spicy margarita) were delicious and quite large! Overall, the patio/space is great (expect it to be busy!) and some patience is required. I think everything is probably a bit overpriced for the quality in Old Town, but the meal was decent/filling & drinks are very delicious.

Visited the Saloon as the Margarita's had been recommended and they were great. Really lovely bar/restaurant. We only stayed for about an hour as we had limited time but could have easily spent the whole evening here. Service was good. Great place to visit.

Went to the resraunt with friends and family members. Had a great taco and enchilada with beans and rice and salad. The staff was very nice and on top of things going on.

stopped here for dinner.huge menu with alot of really great choices.great atmosphere and very friendly people.service and food here were really good.

Service was painfully slow, however it was a really busy Friday night. Food and drinks were delicious tho - so I'd like to go back again for table service. 4 of us sat at the bar because of the 25 minute wait for a table. We had to ask for drinks not to mention chips and salsa, so that was annoying but when it did come, all was delicious. Chips were thin and HOT, so yummy! House margarita was also top notch - good pour excellent taste. In our group we had Civiche, Queso Fundido, 2 types of Tacos, Enchiladas, Beans and Rice. Everyone really enjoyed their food. Will go back again!

We stopped off here for a couple of margaritas & light snacks during happy hour & left full. We ordered the Nachos & tacos for kids & the portion size was huge. Server knew what was Gf for myself. Overall a good visit.

Best Mexican food in San Diego...we tried several restaurants in the area and this by far is the Best. Fresh chips and salsa great happy hour prices with food specials. Dinner was great ... Don't forget the margarita..delicioso!

We tried this restaurant last year and it has become a family favorite! Delicious Mexican Food! Favorites include the carne asada plate, Barra Barra appetizer sampler. I love how they serve chips, salsa, AND a black bean dip as soon as you're seated. The chips are served warm from the oven and the salsa and bean dip are so tasty. We've tried several items from their vast menu and have not been disappointed yet! Their mango sea bass ceviche is a MUST! Very generous portion comes in a large bowl and can easily be shared by 2-4 people. Margaritas are great! Desserts too! We tried the churros with cajeta & chocolate on our last visit a few days ago...heavenly! Ask to sit in the outdoor patio so you can enjoy the sites of Old Town as you dine. The restaurants in Old Town can get very crowded including this one, but the line here is typically not as long as the restaurants in the Fiesta de Reyes Plaza. And this restaurant is worth the wait for sure!

Located in Old Town on the main plaza, this restaurant offers pleasant outdoor seating under an old arbor. The location and atmosphere are very good. We tried the quesadilla with shrimp along with soft corn tacos. The portions were large and the food quite tasty. It reminded me of some great restaurant experiences that I have had on trips into Mexico. I found the prices to be high, but you expect that in a tourist area.

We visited San Diego old town recently. Nice evening with Christmas atmosphere and many Mexican attractions. We visited Barra Barra restaurant for dinner. Service was very good as well as food and margarita. Servings are huge - impossible to finish. But very tasty and we enjoyed it. I can only recommend this restaurant. For sure - will visit again when in area.

We had a table outdoors on the patio and all ordered fajitas. Service was prompt and friendly, the fajitas were hot and tasty and the "best" margarita was inexpensive and good. After dinner we were able to stroll old town and window shop and people watch. On a comfortable evening in August.

My husband and I dropped in to Barra Barra Saloon in Old Town San Diego for some Mexican food and had a great meal, a delicious margarita and fun conversation with our wonderful server, Manny. I recommend this restaurant and you may have to take some of your food with you. Huge servings!

Less crowded than in the plaza. Great chips and hot bean dip ( heat hot) drinks are good not fabulous but nice atmosphere. Did not eat here so I can't really comment but it looked and smelled terrific.

Barra Barra is a restaurant that sits on the edge of Old Town San Diego. We are really glad that we came here! Service was great and we really enjoyed the 5$ margaritas during happy hour. They provide chips and salsa (pretty standard at a Mexican restaurant) and they were pretty good. They had a lot of inside seating as well as outdoor seating, and I would return here if back in the area.

Stopped here after walking around Old Town. the staff were very friendly and helpful. Had a couple of beers before a great mexican style feed. Would definitely go back.

Visited on a Sunday afternoon after a one hour walk around or town park. One of our group of seven made a recommendation and they were right! We were able to be seated right away even though not all of our party was there yet and we got a nice table outside. Often restaurants in a “tourist zone” are over priced and not very good quality. Barra Barra is neither. We had a pitcher of beer and the food was terrific. I had the Carne Asada burrito as recommended and it was delicious! Would definitely recommend!

We sat out on the lovely patio to have cocktails and guacamole. I loved the bean dip and salsa that was with the homemade chips! I had the large jalapeño infused margarita with a spicy salted rim. Raul was our waiter who gave us outstanding service! One cannot ask for a better location, drink and service. I wasn’t very hungry so a meal just wasn’t an option for me.

Great tacos . The food is great and love the outdoor seating. The service is prompt. The Bloody Mary in the old town is one of the best.

Great draft beer, chips, salsa, and warm black bean dip.; would return for more of that! Beyond that, however, spells culinary disaster. They don't even know how to make rice. The meals are a big mushy mess of fail.

While visiting Old Town, we stopped in to Barra Barra for lunch. It helps that it was a beautiful December day and we could sit on the patio. The service was great, the chips fresh and salsa just right. Fresh guacamole and a couple of Cadillac Margaritas topped it off. We had veggie fajitas and potato flautas...wonderful. We rode Amtrak down from San Clemente and the train station is a short walk to Barra Barra. Check them out!

Nice Mexican restaurant to go to in Old Town. We went there after the famous popular restaurant nearby “Casa de Reyes” was fully packed. Had a great experience there, not regretting going to this place instead of the others, loved the combo chicken enchilada with porc carnitas. Seating inside and out.

San Diego is known for great Mexican food but it isn’t at Barra Barra. The chips and salsa were good but it ended there. We had queso fundido appetizer and the tortillas were awful — dense and gummy which means my fajitas were also a waste of $$$. The food lacked flavor altogether. We had eaten across the street at Guadalejara the night before and their tortillas were light and fluffy, full of flavor. Neither one of us ate more than half our meal. We won’t be back.

Barra Barra is a fun place to eat. They have excellent food and the staff is great. Old Town is a great place to get together.

While visiting Old Town, we stopped in Barra Barra to grab a snack and some drinks. The nachos were the best we have had and the margaritas were not too shabby, either. Our server Adrianna was very nice and very quick. I would suggest you stop in and take a load off while touring Old Town.

Kids 10 and below eat for free for each accompanying adult We started off with free nacho appetizer - the bean and salsa dips were tasty. The fajitas were big servings - ideally shared between two or even three people if you order other things so you can try more. Their pozole was yummy too and the service is great :) We all had a great time.

Stopped in for a couple of Margaritas and Nacho's and we were happy. Great service, fast and delicious food and a great spot in the shade to relax and recharge.

We shared the chicken fajita dinner and had the happy hour margaritas. Everything was very good. I would recommend eating here again.

If you like Mexican food, you’ll have plenty to choose from here - the menu was huge! It’s located in Old Town, which is a very small and charming area of San Diego. The food tasted good with lots of vegetables. Got chips with salsa and beans as appetizer.

Nice spot for lunch or snack in historic Old Town. We sat outside amid lots of flowering plants and a beautiful old tree. After a big breakfast we just wanted a snack so we ordered appetizers. We each ordered one but really I think they were meant to share. I had nachos. It was a huge platter and had some black beans in it which was good. Enjoyed it. My husband had a quesadilla which was also huge, more a dinner size. Food was good, staff were friendly. Beautiful spot to sit out on a nice day.

Would have given this place a 5 because the food was delicious, but who serves a fajita platter with only TWO tortillas? They start you with chips, salsa and a black bean dip. The bean dip was addictive. We shared a vegetable fajita platter- it was big enough for two to share. It only came with two tortillas and to get more was an additional cost. Of course we paid for additional tortillas, but had to wait while the food got cold. Wish we the server would have explained the portion size to tortillas ratio when we ordered. The table next to us had the same problem and had to order more also.

First the good news: we were seated promptly at a nice outdoor table. Wait staff was friendly. The black bean dip that accompanied salsa and chips was unique and very tasty! Portions were huge. The appetizer sampler could easily feed three. The mango sea bass appetizer was superb (you have to like raw onions tho) Now the downside: we asked for a coffee and three waters. We only got two waters. Chips and salsa arrived with no napkins or utensils. We asked for napkins and were brought a stack of cocktail napkins. Our meals arrived - still no utensils or dinner napkins. We had to ask again for those. The Chicken mole verde was drowned in a very odd type of mole sauce that was extremely salty. The chicken was somewhat tasteless. I should have asked a lot of questions about mole verde - it was unlike any molei’ve ever had... The appetizer combo plate was literally stacked with an assortment of appetizers. Anything that had large tortilla chips was soggy from the mixture of sauces. Many of the items were very salty. We asked for two checks bu were brought a single check... P.S. don’t go here expecting to be able to order a light lunch. No item had small enough portions to fit that bill. All meals (excluding appetizer) were huge and $17-$20.

The margaritas are outstanding. They offer a great selection of Mexican food and also a good selection of items for vegetarians. The chips are epic!!!

Came here to experience Mexican food and it was good but we were hoping for more. Key then is to manage your expectations when you visit Bara Bara. We had great margaritas and starters but the main were not good.

We stumbled upon this place in our walk around Old Town San Diego. We were seated right away. When our waiter came over he asked us to switch to a different table since they needed our table for a large party they were getting ready for, we were happy to accommodate and for our trouble he comped us fresh guacamole. The carne asada platter was great with flavorful meat and fresh tortillas.

I’m a die hard. Refuse to go into the Plaza now that Bazaar Del Mouno Casa de Pico was forced out. Right across from the entrance is Bara Barra my new old town favorite. Don’t pig out on the chips a hot bean dip you won’t be able to eat the huge meal portions thrust serene. Good goof fair prices for a tourist spot.

We enjoyed a nice meal for dinner while in San Diego. Good food and fun decor. Great place to take kids as they have good menu for kids and we (the adults) enjoyed our food too, going with the popular choices they offered.

Welcomed stop after exploring the old town, friendly service and great drinks, sit back and soak in the atmosphere, you could be in Mexico.

Fun place and local feel. All the drinks we tried were the best of the SD visit. Food was good and priced right. CHIPS AND DIPS ARE WORTH THE VISIT. Attentive staff and more than willing to make suggestions on what to see and when to go.

Terrible service, they gave us a 35 minute wait and that's fine, they sat us down and we waited about 20 minutes and the staff was serving other tables and offering chips and salsa to people who were arriving after us until we got angry and complained to the manager and we leave the place

We were seated quickly by a friendly host. Chips and salsa were brought to us immediately. The chips were very good and my wife enjoyed the salsa. We ordered the fajitas and they were hot and good. The only problem we had were the birds walking around and jumping up on empty tables. Had I seen the birds before we sat, I wouldn't have eaten at the restaurant. I didn't like the idea of eating and watching for birds. If you can handle the birds, the food is good enough.

The place is cute. Waiters dressed in a typical mexican outfits, which gives you a nice vibe. The food was ok, rice was overcooked and lacking salt. Margaritas were very good. Prices reasonable plus kids eat free.

This little restaurant is located in the historical area of old town San Diego. It’s towards one end & away from the busier touristy areas. We just happened to see it & went in for a quick bite to eat. It’s very nice, the wait staff is excellent, & traditionally dressed for the period, which was fun. The portions were more than ample, reasonable price, and very picturesque. Indoor & outdoor seating.

Been to both Casa Guadalajara and Cafe Coyote nearby - which were also good, but Barra Barra outdid them both surprisingly for me. Although tacos here are not street-style exactly, the freshness and quality of ingredients won me over. On a minor note, the salsa here was the most flavorful I've had anywhere.

Surprisingly good… I haven’t been to old town in 1000 years and decided to stop for a margarita and a bit of food. Both the marg and the guacamole were exceptional. They were enhanced by a nice patio experience and really attentive, friendly service… so glad I came.

Just popped in for a jack n' coke and fell completely heads over heels in love with the black dean dip The bar is actually very good - but a lil small and dem drinks were great. While we didn't get a change a chill out on the patio ...the patio is stellar ..especially during sunset

My Latina wife and I are rather selective about Mexican food and realize that tourist locations like Old Town San Diego can hold many disappointments. Nonetheless, we were encouraged to see this place very busy on a Labor Day Saturday and decided to give it a try. At first, the staff was a bit slow in bringing service but after catching the attention of the extremely professional manager Tim, we enjoyed a first class meal in this wonderful porch setting. For starters, the red sauce was excellent and the black bean dip was the best we have ever had (including in Mexico). I ordered the three-item combo of blackened fish taco (very generous slab of slab of fish), shredded pork tamale (thoughtfully unwrapped beforehand for me with sauce on top) and cheese enchilada. Not only was each of these dishes very tasty but they also scored big points on the simple things, like rice. My wife had a big bowl of excellent menudo and a very large bowl of ceviche. The ceviche comes cooked in lime sauce but has many small chunks of fresh fish interspersed with mango - very novel and tasty. Don't let this restaurant name or its touristy location fool you - this is a full-blown Mexican jewel that would do well anywhere in town!

Any time we are craving Mexican food we come to Barra Barra. The atmosphere is fun and the staff is very friendly. The food is delicious and so are the drinks.

Great food, old town flavour, Waiters dressed in traditional costume. Great hospitality and warm fires.

This was an unexpected surprise. We were told to meet some folks here as they chose the spot. Walking inside it was very nice and enjoyable to look around. The wait staff was very friendly and provided great service. The food came quickly and all 7 of us enjoyed our meal. No issues, you won't be disappointed if you go.

Old Town San Diego is a bustling Mecca of tourists on weekends, especially at the start of summer. So when you see a restaurant in a great location that's not all that crowded, you jump on it, right? Not so fast. First of all, I can't say anything but great things about the service. My lady friend and I were immediately led to a table by the hostess, and out server was a sweetheart. But things went slightly south after that. Our drinks from the bar took forever, arriving about the same time as our entrees. And the bartender should probably put his training wheels back on. My friend's Mojito was so sour with lime juice her face puckered up and we had to return it. And the yellow corn chips looked and tasted like they came from a bag of Doritos. Can't complain about the food. My enchilada/tamale combo was pretty good. My friend ordered a Mexican Cesar Salad sin carne, which was understandably bland. That said, she guzzled down her replacement Margarita, although it was served in a traditional water glass instead of the traditional, wide-brimmed serving. Maybe the cantinero was upset that we didn't order appetizers first. Overall, the food at Barra Barra was good, although the beans and rice were dry, as were the two paper towel machines in the men's room. Impressed? Not really, except for our server. She should quit and apply at Casa Guadalajara.

Went for lunch after spending a day at Old Town. We were seated quickly and had immediately had a server bring us chips and frijoles and salsa--all were excellent. Had carne asada negro with the healthy choice side (veg black beans and a corn salad) which was very good. Husband had carne asada and really enjoyed it. Attentive server made sure we didn't run out of things. Only frustration was no lunch menu so prices were the same as dinner prices.

Was looking for a Mexican place as I had heard San Diego does good Mexican food. Was passing by this place and the server said the happy hour deal was still on so I thought I’d give it a go. I ordered a flat bread chicken taco only $3.50 and the house lemon margarita that was also on a happy deal at $5. Both were really delicious. They say that the flat breads are made fresh that day & you can tell they were. It was also a generous portion and didn’t disappoint. They also give you free warm tortilla chips with 2 dips and refilled when empty! I also got a complimentary desert which made the night even better! My server Fidel was very attentive. Would recommend!

Right next to Fiesta de Reyes, but a much quieter environment. The food was good and great places to people watch!

Came to Bara Bara for dinner while visiting Old Town. We were really happy with the kids eat free offer and the menu for the kids were not too bad. Not super fancy but what the kids wanted. The adult meals were great and large portions so we all left happy. The wait staff was excellent and the option to have diner on the covered patio really sealed the deal. Nothing better than having dinner outside on a nice San Diego night.

Out of all the restaurants and bars in Old Town San Diego, Barra Barra has the absolute best house Margarita. I mean seriously, this margarita is thirst quenching and delicious. This restaurant is on top of my list whenever I’m in San Diego. The food is also delicious, and they have a great kids menu as well. Do yourself a favor and check out Barra Barra, and try the house Margarita.

The food was 5 star-- delicious! It started with the homemade tortilla chips, delicious black bean dip and salsa. We could have made a meal out of just those! The reason I didn't give 5 stars is because we went through 2 whole baskets of chips and dips, and could have had a 3rd because the service was fairly slow, although everyone was very friendly. Thankfully we were not in a hurry. The atmosphere was lovely, and we were happy to have chosen this restaurant in the Old Town San Diego area.

We found Barra Barra by accident coming from the parking lot and boy am I glad we did! It was early, before noon, and they were ready to serve! Plenty of friendly staff and support that we never waited for anything! The chips were fresh and hot and the salsa was what I remember my friend Maria from Mexico making! It was so good!! The beans with the chips were packed with flavor, mostly black beans. Of course we had brunch margaritas and they were tangy and delicious! The food was spectacular! I had the nachos with carnitas and they were hands down the best nachos I've ever had! So much cheese and melt in your mouth carnitas, I'm craving them now!! Hubby's Oven Roasted Relleno was amazing! No coating, which he loved, and a magical sauce mixed well with the roasted pepper. We'll definitely be back when in the area and highly recommend Barra Barra!

We have been in this place visiting the old town. The restaurant in itself is very impressed but food is averaged nothing special. Kids eat for free with a paying adult.

We sat at the bar at 4 pm for drinks & appetizers the bartender was not very helpful and seemed to be bothered when we asked questions about the food & the drinks. He was just as rude & unfriendly to the waiters & waitress staff as he made there drinks.

Taco Tuesday runs from 4pm till close. The prices are great, the tacos are a good size, and the chips and salsa are really fresh. As a bonus, there's a rack of local hot sauces you can try. It's inside by the bar.

If you visit this place any time other than a weekend or holiday, you will be very happy. Best Crab Stuffed Salmon found anywhere! $7 Margaritas any day, any time. Very friendly staff! Take Green Trolley.

We went to Barra Barra twice for happy hour. Great margaritas and tacos. Plus they give you complimentary tacos and salsa. Nice atmosphere with great service.
Good food.
We had a very nice dinner at this place. The food was delicious and well prepared. The staff was very friendly and helpful. A great restaurant in old town.
