We recently walked into Barra Rossa for dinner well before our play at 8pm. I had been on Open Table to make a reservation but with the weather as bad as it was I decided not to in case we didn't have time for dinner before the show. Upon arriving at 6:10, we walked in and asked if they had any availability for 2 people, the one host wouldn't even look at us but looked at the other host and says to him, no way. So the second host told us they didn't (even though there were plenty of tables available) and that we could sit at the bar as the full menu was available there. We decided to sit at the bar since it was pouring outside we didn't want to venture any place else. Once we sat at the bar, Megan, the bartender took excellent care of us and we realized the host really did us a favor, because Megan was the best! But after I sat at the bar, I pulled out the Open Table app on my phone and was able to make a reservation for 6:30, there was availability all the way up until our show time. Why didn't the host have the courtesy of saying, that they had nothing at the time but would at 6:30! Just very poor customer service. The food was excellent, we shared a pizza and a tomatoe/mozzarella salad with a cup of soup. Everything was hot and fresh. If we go again, we will be sure to look for Megan at the bar!

We hadn't been here for awhile. It used to be a favorite because of their interesting and very tasty salads. But we were disappointed in some sandwiches and moved on to other places. Today we gave them another chance, and for the first time had the soup. The minestrone was excellent. We had the chopped salad, which was OK but not memorable. I'd say the same for the pizza that we shared. I think we'll go back--perhaps to pair the soup with a different salad and pizza. Service is excellent, by the way.

Barr Rosa was spotted on one of our walks down 10th ave, we decided to try it as it had many vegan options, it was pretty good and the service was great, we ordered drinks and mushroom ravioli and a vegan margarita pizza 🍒 3/5 cherries

Recently visited and had the lobster and ravioli which was excellent. Our server Julia was spot on.

Good food, good service, good beer and wine - all at a reasonable price. Arancini appetizer was scrumptious. Chicken parm was very good - though like most places needed more red sauce which the waiter happily delivered.

We ate here before going to a show at the Walnut Street Theatre. If you show your tickets, they will give you 10% off your order, which was very nice. We all really enjoyed our entrees. We did have to ask for bread and were disappointed that their slightly above average prices did not include at least a small salad with the pasta. Our waittress was very accomodating and sweet. I was mildly annoyed that the restaurant was hot (it was in the 80s today) and they would not turn their air on for their many paying customers. Service, however, was pretty quick.

We had lunch Sunday. Everything tasted great. The meatballs tasted like moms. We will be back soon! Also, try the canoli.

Food was very good. Veal chop was tasty and tender. Eggplant parm was very good. Salad was excellent. Prix Fixe dinner a good value.

The place is very well decorated as a bar to chat and eat something. We went for a late lunch, between 2 and 3pm, and we had Burrata, truffle oil fries, pear&blue pizza, the cheese was a bit strong, there was no good balance with the pear, mozarella and dough. My husband ordered grilled filet mignon and it was ok, garlic bread and shrimp up large. The place is nice, Pub-type with lots of decoration, lots of details and a relaxed atmosphere. The food was nothing special, very average, I don't think we will eat again.

We went to this place as business meeting. During lunch they offer half prize on evrry pizza so we thought would be a good idea to check the place out. Staff is very friendly and the interior are great. Pizza was really salty. We ordered many types. The margerita doesn t really have a taste. It is a great place but maybe avoid pizza

Ate here last week after seeing Annie at the Walnut Street Theatre (right before Christmas). We ate upstairs which was a perfect setting for a holiday meal. Everyone loved the food. I loved my ziti with alfredo sauce. There is an upstairs and a downstairs. Not sure if there is an elevator. The downstairs is more for people coming in to grab a slice of pizza. The upstairs is a wonderful place to have a relaxing meal. Highly recommend it. It was one block from the Walnut Street Theatre.

I ate here with my family Saturday 1/21 for my birthday. The restaurant was pretty quiet for a Saturday night in center city, which was a little surprising. Our waitress seemed a little frazzled or overwhelmed. We were a party of 7. She forgot my meatball appetizer so it literally came out 5 minutes before my food. It was pretty good though. Everyone else liked there food for the most part, so the taste wasn't an issue nor was the quantity. l had to ask for things repeatedly like lemons, paper napkins, straws, small things but annoying. So after we finished dinner and dessert, we were just sitting at the table talking and there were no other guests in the area at this time so it was pretty quiet, a MOUSE ran across the floor. That ruined everything. At that point we left immediately. We complained on our way out and I was given a $25 gift card. That is completely unacceptable. I will not be returning to this restaurant ever. I understand that restaurants may have pests but under no circumstances should they be running across the floor during or after dinner.

My fiancee and I went on a wander from 12th and market looking for an "Italian". After some time we stumbled on this perfect choice. From the Prosecco and strawberry cocktail we were hooked. The olives were lovely. A real mix including the velvety crunchy ones I love! My fiancée had a vegetarian pasta dish. Based on pesto I believe. She loved it. I had a great pizza and washed it down with draft Peroni. Ambience was great, some nice music but not too loud. Our waitress was attentive but not in your face. All in all a great choice. If we are ever in Philly again we'll be back.

We decided to try Barra Rossa as a new brunch alternative before a show at the Walnut Street Theatre. What a disappointment. We waited 5 minutes for our coffee to be served. My husband had the omelette and I had the short rib hash. My husband said the omelette was not the worst he had had, but not the best. The short rib hash was terrible. It was billed as poached eggs over a hash of short ribs. What I got was something else. The eggs weren't poached; the yolk was hard and not running. The "hash" was dry, shredded, tasteless short ribs piled on top of the same fried (?) potatoes my husband had with his omelette - not what I would call hash. On top of that, we didn't see the server again until we had sat for 10 minutes after finishing our meal. With so many other pre-theater options in the area, we won't be here again.

This is the fifth year we have celebrated New Years at this restaurant. The staff is always friendly and the food is great. I love the pear salad, and the olive appetizer. It should be on one "to do" list when in Philly.

Had the Chicken Abruzzi. It was tasty and served quickly. The wait staff was friendly and informative.

We ate here because of the proximity to Walnut St theatre and the menu could accommodate gluten free. Per the waiter’s suggestion we ordered salads and entrees. Well after an hour, half the table was served and after another twenty minutes and a lot of asking the waiter for our food the manager came over and said the rest of the meal was coming and it would be comp’ed. We didn’t want free food. We wanted to enjoy dinner with friends. Food was mediocre, not particularly hot (so after all that wait why was it lukewarm?) and just a bad experience. Needs some serious management help. And by the way bathrooms were really bad. No water pressure, no towels, no toilet paper.

I was drawn to the large gluten-free menu. I met a friend for lunch I had not seen in years. We sat upstairs and chatted for 3 hours. Our salads (his with salmon, mine with chicken) were delicious. I am looking forward to returning.

Finding an Italian restaurant with lots of gluten free options other than just one kind of pasta and maybe a roll can be a challenge. I found this place using a gluten free search and we finally ate here last night. It should become a fairly regular place for us to eat. They have a fairly lengthy gluten free menu including lots of pastas and the waiter was very helpful in pointing my wife in the right direction when there was any doubt. We had the appetizer where you can select up to 2 meats and 2 cheeses and it comes with an assortment of olives. Simply amazing! I had the fried mozzarella appetizer and was afraid that there wouldn't be any room for the entree. The coating of the cheese was very good - not greasy, not overly thick so that it made it impossible to taste the creaminess of the cheese. I had the meat tortellini entree and it blew me away. It can be a challenge to find anything other than cheese filled tortellini at times, so I scarfed down every bite. I barely had any room for dessert, but they fortunately have mousse shooters...I had the hazelnut one that had some cake at the bottom of it. Prices were not very high at all for the quality of the food. It seems like a great place to go before or after a show and there is a parking garage right next door and another one just a block over. I think they offer a valet parking deal on Mondays.

Stopped in for dinner before theater at The Walnut Street Theater. Friendly service, nice size salads, reasonable wine prices and a small discount on the bill for going to the theater. What more could you ask for!

I had a big lunch so I wasn't that hungry; but I was thirsty. I ordered the mixed olives & cheese. Both were very good & reasonably priced. I had to track down the waiter for an iced tea refill. Needing another refill wasn't performed by the waiter even though he passed by my table at least a half-dozen times. I'm Unlikely to return.

We made a reservation for dinner before a show at the Walnut Street Theater; glad we did as the place was full. We were seated upstairs in a nice quiet booth. The service was excellent--attentive & efficient knowing we had a time limit. The restaurant was offering a pre-fixe dinner inspired by the theme of the musical we were seeing; so we went with that. The food was delicious & exceeded our expectations. Will definitely go there the next time we're in that area.

This was dinner on Day 2 of my short trip to Philadelphia. First time ever in Philadelphia so I wanted to have dinner in Center City. Someone recommended Barra Rosa when I asked about Italian restaurants. Food was delicious (Chicken Parmesan). Dessert was good too. I don't remember what it was called but it was basically gelato in a small glass and I had the one with Oreo. Hands-down would visit again if I'm ever in Philly again.

Very nice family-owned Italian restaurant with a great menu offering a nice variety of eats to enjoy before or after a show, or anytime you find yourself in the neighborhood. The wait staff seemed more than a bit unattentive, and the restaurant was not at all busy during our visit, so they couldn't use that excuse. We were pretty disappointed after they brought at least a dozen different meals to our table, none of which were for us. It's not too tough to get this stuff right! I'll readily admit that the chefs did a great job, and when our meals actually did arrive, we thoroughly enjoyed them. So, perhaps a little more effort in the training department by management, and they'd really have a 4-5 star eatery here!

Barra Rossa is a good place to go before the show and serves good and tasty food. It is a stones throw away from numerous hotels and right down the street from the Walnut Theatre. I enjoyed the gnocchi and my girlfriend enjoyed their seafood linguini. Both dishes were tasty and were of good portion. I recommend this place for a pre show meal.

We are doing a tour of the East Coast, Philly was our next stop. We stumbled on the restaurant during the day (looked through window) whilst walking about. Not wanting to venture to far from the hotel we decided to head down there for dinner. We were seated in a booth and had a lovely waitress wait on us. She kindly bought us water and bread. We had spaghetti meatballs, penne ala vodka and the kids had a pizza each. The food was delicious (clean plates all round). The price was great aswell. I would reccomend this restaurant to anyone heading to Philly. Thanks guys for a lovely experience.

Daughter made reservations through open table and was able to find a open table early in the day as we desired. Fancy Pizzeria with a dining room upstairs. Nice ambience & great for family style dinning with friends or family. The bread is hot and made on premises. Menu prices were reasonable!

Barra Rossa was an excellent Italian restaurant! It even had a huge gluten free menu. The manager, Jim, made our visit wonderful! The service, the food, the prices, and atmosphere made you feel like you were in your friend's Italian home. Tasha, our server, was friendly, knowledgeable, and competent! She answered all our questions and provided superior service. As an individual with Celiac's Disease, I was blown away by the food selection! I had gluten free bread, olive oil, tomatoes, mozzarella and basil, a variety of olives, gluten free vodka cream sauce pasta, AND gluten free tiramisu mousse! Please check out the Barra Rossa website for all the selections. This restaurant far exceeded my expectations! Again our experience started and ended fantastic due to the manager, Jim. At the end of our meal. I felt like Jim was part of our family! This restaurant is a must to visit.

I was a first time visitor here and had dinner with friends before a show at the Walnut Street Theatre. The ambiance upstairs is quiet and elegant and the food was authentic Italian and excellent! The beer selection is very eclectic and they serve pitchers! Will go back again when attending the theatre l!

I can't wait to go back! This was my first visit to Barra Rossa, however it will not be my last. We stopped for lunch before a show at the nearby Forrest Theater thinking it was a typical Italian restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised! Our waiter Michael "Cabbie" welcomed us and took the time to explain the menu and provide us with water while we reviewed the menu for drinks and food. After a few minutes he returned to take our order. When I commented that I was still deciding because there were so many delicious looking options, he took the time to ask a few questions and then made several suggestions to help me. I had the Grilled Chicken Sandwich and my sister had the Portobella Mushroom sandwich. Both were absolutely wonderful. As any good waiter would do, Cabbie encouraged us to have dessert, but he was not at all pushy. We both had Tiramisu, which I believe is made in house. It was equally delicious as our sandwiches; our total bill was under $40.00!!! The service could not have been better and the food topped all of my expectations. We will definitely be visiting again, but the next time will be for dinner as the offerings all looked so good. Bottom line....We will be back and we will be telling our friends. Thank you Cabbie for a delightful experience.

The food was delish - the waiter was adorable, friendly, fast and knowledgeable about the menu. Burrata and Steamed muscles were wonderful, Gorgonzolla Gnocci and Chicken Parm very good. It was too hot inside to stay for dessert or coffee or even another cocktail. There is no Air Conditioning here !! Last summer same thing !!! Get take out !!

I reserved a table for a group of work friends for dinner. They were very accommodating when more people than we expected showed up. We got a large table upstairs. The service was fast and the food was great. They offered a wide variety of Italian food. Everyone enjoyed their food. I would recommend eating here for a casual meal.

We decided to have a pretheater dinner but we’re a bit tight on time so looked for a close dinner option. Bella Rosa was perfect. We had 6:30 reservations and were just on time and were seated immediately. We had the bruchette and meatball appetizers to share. Both were exceptional. For dinner I had simple zttti and meatballs. The pasta was aldanti and the gravy and meatballs were great. Our friends had the chicken special and the scallops and both raved about the flavors. The house wines and speciality drinks were great. We will definitely frequent Bella Rosa again in the near future.

We didn't eat here so this review doesn't cover the food. It could be amazing, it could be average. I'm giving this two stars because we walked in at about 7:30pm on a day that was 90-plus degrees out it felt hotter there then it did outside. Waiting for a table my kids were sweating in their chairs, so we left. It was packed, so it must be good, but I think between the heat, the ovens, and the crowd the lack of sufficient A/C made it highly uncomfortable.

Walked past on our way from Independence Hall to our hotel. Like the look from the outside and went in. Glad we did. Service was fantastic, masks and social distancing to be sure. Wonderful bar (old fashions and Mai Tai). We had the vesuvio pizza with extra peppers and were not disappointed. Really worth a visit and good value.

Went there for lunch before going to the theater. What a nice surprise. Lunch was delicious, large portions and inexpensive. I had an eggplant Parmesan sandwich. The eggplant was prepared to enhance the taste. The roll was very tasty. The sandwich came with fries. We shared a pear salad. Everything was very delicious and our lunch was very cheap. I should also mention the excellent service. Our waiter was friendly, helpful and attentive.

Have eaten here twice now and had a great experience both times! They have a separate gluten free menu that they're happy to bring when you request it. Many pizza and pasta options, as well as regular entrees are available in GF. The GF pizza topped with clams, bacon and peppers is to DIE for (one of the best GF crusts I've ever had)...as is the penne pisello (prosciutto, peas, cream sauce). Will definitely be going back!

have always given a good review of this place but disappointed on our last visit. our server Lisa was very good. friendly, knowledgable, and on top of things, but things changed shince our last visit. first, they got rid of the 1/2 and full carafes of wine. so it is a glass or a whole bottle. we have always rated their calamari the best anywhere-not lst night! overdone, rubbery, and a smaller portion that we usually get! my wifes pasta dish was to die for as usual, but i had a steak salad and although is was good, i thought the portion was a bit small for the price! ok guys, you have a gold mine here--LETS NOT SCREW IT UP!

We chose to eat here for the gluten free pasta options. The food was very good and it came to our table quickly. We had to ask our server twice for silverware and three times for a second bottle of Pellegrino. Next time we’ll get take out.

Stopped for quick lunch. Seated quickly. Server recommended great salad with beets, pear, goat cheese and added salmon. It was around $10 and salmon additional$8. Eggplants parm with truffle fries was $10. Servings was large and taste phenomenal. We will return. Right across from Jefferson university hospital and wills eye. Menu had many options.

They have a nice gluten free menu. The house cab was good. We started with the olives and then five cheeses. A good mix but not the best quality..good but not great for cheese lovers. My granddaughter had a gluten-free pizza and my wife and I shared a margherita pizza. We are not big eaters so it was enough. Most people would want a pie for themselves. Service was good. The bill with tip was $98..with 3 glasses of wine.

Passed this restaurant on my way back to my hotel. We returned here for lunch. We were very pleased to find a varied menu, great service, and great food! Emily was our server, and gave us helpful suggestions. She replaced my iced tea several times. There were many traditional and innovative entries on the menu. We'd like to try several more. Our lunch was well served, hot and very tasty. Would be very glad to return here any time!

Nice service, not too loud and great food. What's not to like? It's right near the Walnut Street theater so great place to go before a show.

Great wine selection!! Had The minestrone soup, Pear and Bleu pizza and calamari. All excellent and would recommend.

We saw a show at the Walnut and a block away was this wonderful restaurant. We met our vegetarian son there and had a wonderful meal there. My wife's meal was delayed because they mistakenly had pepper in her dish and she is allergic. The waiter noticed it before delivery and did not present it. They were quick with a safe replacement. At the end of the meal the waiter comped our coffee and dessert! They also invited us to take our time sitting around as it was raining outside. Great beer and wine selections!

Great bar. Excellent Moscow mule. Good pizza. Pasta done al dente! Good service. Window for people watching.

That is the only good thing I can say. Let me also preface this with I am in the customer service industry for well over 20 years. It takes a lot for me to be annoyed or write a negative review. Arrived for reservation and sat promptly. Told by host that it might be a minute for server because had just sat another party of 6. It was 10 minutes before we saw anyone and that person just dropped off some water. Server finally came ordered our drinks. Sat for another 15 minutes before those arrived. Server then told us that the bottle of wine we had ordered they were out of. No suggestions on any other options, just stood there. One of us had ordered a Peroni beer it was flat. Like not even one bubble flat. 5 minutes later able to flag server, told him beer was flat and his response was “ yeah our peroni is usually like that”?!?! Then don’t serve it. Told him we had theater tickets and needed to be done by 6:15, (we had plenty of time we thought) there was ZERO effort to be efficient, at one point I ended up getting up from the table to find him. I ordered a second drink, it never showed up. The temperature in the restaurant was somewhere between 80 and 15000000 degrees. Server stopped by once during the entire meal. I keep referring to him as Server because he never told us his name. Probably because he is horrible at his job. If you want to enjoy a nice family dinner before a show, definitely don’t go here.

We ate at Barra Rosa before seeing Annie at the Walnut Street Theater. Our party included both adults and children. The kids split mozzarella sticks and enjoyed their pizza and pasta menu choices. The adults shared a variety of different menu items. We started with the butternut squash soup - it was so rich and delicious - definitely our favorite choice of the night. We also ordered two different salads which we really enjoyed. We also had the brussel sprouts, gorgonzola gnocchi, and the pear white pizza - we thought all of our selections were good choices - everything was prepared as we expected. We ended with orders of cannoli, tiramasu and mousse - all were nice choices to end our meal. If you're looking for a cocktail - I would highly recommend the lemonade martini - a crisp, refreshing cocktail - I loved it!

Delightful atmosphere, excellent wood fired pizza, and very attentive staff. I met several people for a business dinner and thoroughly enjoyed the food, craft beer selection, and atmosphere. Excellent.

We stopped here before a matinee at the Walnut. They do offer a 15% discount for subscribers, BTW. The corner location is convenient and seating was good. We just wanted a small meal, so the sandwiches were generous with great fries! The Portobello panini was better than the Roast Pork Panini, priced at $11 and $12 respectively. The mushroom was sauteed and not dried out, with a yummy cheese. The pork, on the other hand, was dried out and had large pieces of stringy broccoli raabe which I could not chew at all -had to pull it out of my mouth!! It was a 4 inch long quarter inch thick stem which I would have cut out before cooking if making this at home. The fries were the best part of the meal! Crispy with, I think, a Parmesan coating.

Lovely delicious meal. Staff happily accommodated our large group on last notice. Right across street from College dorms and short walk from city center. Pizza was yummy and everyone enjoyed their choices.

The service was terrible. From having to ask for silverware multiple times to having bread and salad served before drinks. Food and drinks didn’t make up for the bad service. To the Zinfandel being sour and the pizza crust tasting like cardboard, it was a mediocre meal at a hefty price. Many other better options in the city.

I visited for a late lunch while downtown for work with a friend. She loved the look of the meals in the window of patrons dining. We wanted a relaxed lunch spot for her birthday. We were greeted promptly and seating was by the window. The layout is perfect and easy to navigate. Our server was very sweet but very busy. We started with zuppa del minestrone which was a light broth full of delicious veggies. The beans were so soft which means cooked to perfection. I had a pear salad chock full of Gorgonzola cheese, candied walnuts and delicate pear slices. The house vinaigrette was light and great. The arugula was plentiful so absolutely order this salad confidently. The spaghetti and meatballs were made slightly spicy in the sauce by request. That was a big plus. Overall a great meal. The highly rated grilled chicken piccata was a bust. The grilled chicken was definitely a lunch portion as it barely made a 3oz serving of protein. The lemon parsley butter had absolutely no taste at all. The overall dish was bland as could be. I should have tried the vodka sauce. There was no bread served which made me terribly sad. No cheese or hot peppers were offered with two pasta meals which seemed super odd. Half our meals went home with us because the portion sizes were really nice. Lunch was finished with dessert. Order the cannoli it was decadent. The shell was crisp and filled with an amazing mascarpone cheese most likely ricotta added in and mini chocolate chips. Double yum. The tiramisu mousse was not good at all. The server took it off the bill thankfully. The menu was filled with pizza choices of all varieties. The wine list is extensive to say the least. The bar looks fully stocked as well. I may go again and try dinner. Parking is tight so be prepared.

marinara sauce on pizza very good. white pizza came out a little cold. bread brought to table w/olive oil for dipping was very good.

Our waiter was very pleasant but he was struggling a bit to provide good service. He forgot to bring our second drink order, he had to be asked to fill water glasses, and overall he seemed to be frazzled. But again, he was very nice. We surmise it must have been his first night. The food was just okay. Nothing great. It it a decent place to grab a drink and some bar food after work but we are not sure I we would return again for dinner.

Visited this restaurant for take-out. We called our order in and the order was ready in the time given over the phone. We have pasta dished and both the ziti and crab pasta dishes were delicious. I would recommend this location for dinner.

I was in between appointments and needed to grab some lunch. Given that it was cold and snowy out, I was obviously looking for a place to eat where I could be comfortable at a table on my own. I figured I would give Barra Rossa a try, as their prices weren't that much more than eating at a fast food place. I had the meatball parmigiana sandwich, which came with either fries or a salad. The food came quickly and it was really good and quite filling! I followed up my meal with a warming cup of java and I was on my way! The servers and hostess were all very welcoming and nice and even though I was there at around 11:30-12:00, it wasn't overly crowded, which I was glad about (then again, a lot of people may not have made it into work due to the snow). At any rate, I would suggest Barra Rossa for a delicious lunch!

Came last year at this time to celebrate birthdays, asked my daughter where she wanted to go this weekend (again for our birthdays), a resounding "Barra Rossa!" been dreaming about the pastas and the best anywhere cheese plates. looking forward to celebrating in a cozy yet festive setting with great food.

I ate lunch here and loved it! I had cheese and prosciutto as an appetizer. The selections were large and very tasty! I had the Special Red Pizza as well and it was amazing! Highly recommend this place.

Had dinner with my wife and daughter....server was clueless about menu..asked for an Amstel Light and she said " Whats that"?..are you kidding me? Settled for a Stella which was warm....server forgot to bring ice and lemonade..when she presented check, she remembered this......pizza was good, but not at $18! Second time here, but the last time I will visit this place..too many other better restaurants in Philly

It has been a while since our last visit but happy to report that Barra Rossa is as good as ever! Enhanced by gracious service and an extensive enticing menu, the food is as good as ever and the choice of wines sure to please any palate.

Went for lunch on a Saturday and we were seated upstairs by ourselves , though there were still available seats on the main floor. Nice decor and limited prix fixe menu choices. The Montepulciano house wine did not leave any lasting impression and the veal chop was undercooked. Amiable service always on the run!

We started with an order of calamari to share. It was wonderful - light, crispy coating and perfectly cooked with two dipping sauces. The pizzas had crispy crusts with just the right amount of chewy centers. The Mushroom and Buffalo Chicken were both outstanding. The grilled pork panini was also delicious. Highly recommended!

Food is OK at best. Lacking some flavor. Would not go out of my way to eat here again. Service was reasonable, nothing remarkable.

Barra Rosa is conveniently located near the Walnut Street Theater and they offer a discount if you are season ticket holders. Their website is also not very good and does not show their menus effectively. If you are looking for the dinner menu, you need to go under the lunchmenu, if that is offered to you on the main page. I was only able to view the catering and restaurant week menu. The restaurant is lovely, however the service and food are only average. The food runners had no idea what food belonged to what table. We were offered food for two different tables prior to receiving our own. The appetizers and olives were the highlight of the meal. The entrees were overpriced for what we received. I ordered the grilled chicken picatta and it was flavorless. The meat was grilled and dry. It did not have any of the flavor from the picatta sauce. Not sure I would go back there again, even with the discount, unless it was appetizers only.

My parents and I always have gone here and loved it until yesterday. I ordered a veal dish and it came out very thick and tough not pounded out. The breading fell right off. I also asked for my side of pasta on a seperate plate. My Mom also asked for her pasta on a separate plate but when the entrees came out they were plated together. The waiter even commented I told them that you wanted it separate. My Dad asked for coffee and it took quite awhile to get it. When we ordered our drinks the first two selections were not available. I asked to speak to the manager who said he was a bar manager. That is the way the veal is served so basically too bad. My food was inedible and service sucked. The salad we ordered came with Bleu Cheese and when we got it there was no Bleu cheese. Took forever to get it to us. Maybe they changed hands lately but overall it was terrible and a waste of $185.00

We had asked at the hotel about finding a local pizza place. Unfortunately, there was a fire in a nearby building that created closed streets and a general mess. We were on foot, so kept walking and ended up at Barra Rossa. I'm so glad we found this gem. We got our pizza and shared Pasta Pinoli. The food was excellent. Our server was terrific, helpful, knew the menu and was very cheerful and attentive. The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed.

My family and I were in the mood for some good Italian food. Boy did we come to the right place. Atmosphere and staff were friendly. Restaurant was clean, and service was great. Oh yes! I forgot about the food! Absolutely worth it. All four of us loved our meals. I highly recommend Barra Rossa!

Stopped for lunch. Had salad and pizza. Salad a very good size. Pizza was very good. Sat at the wine bar bartender was excellent. Had some nice glasses of wine. Will be back for dinner.

Took my family into city to see show and had lunch here. What a nice experience. Food was really good, service impeccable, and an overall nice time. most of all, family really enjoyed. came back to city 2 days later and went back again for dinner. It was incredable! only problem was that it was so hot in there on second visit. not sure what was going on! but overall a great place at reasonable prices and great service!

A friend and I went for dinner on a Sunday night before the evening show at the Walnut Street Theater. The meal was delicious and extremely reasonable for center city Philly! I had the Eggplant Parmesan (one of my favorites dishes) and my friend had the salmon salad. The eggplant parm was delicious - a nice portion, tender and juicy with a nice crust and melted Parmesan. The sauce was very good and plentiful. My friend's salad was delicious with varied greens and a decent portion of salmon cooked just right - juicy and nicely seasoned. The wine prices were reasonable with a choice of two sizes by the glass. Service was very good and prompt. We're glad to have a new find for lunch or dinner because we go in to center city frequently for shows and other affairs.

As Walnut St Theatre subscribers, we always go to a nearby restaurant before the show. Barra Rossa is supposed to give a 15% discount. I don't know if the servers are fully trained on how to calculate the discount but we received less than a 10% discount on our food bill. I had asked for the check to arrive with our dessert but we were still waiting for the check 15 minutes before the start of the show. Obviously we could not address the discrepancy in the bill at that time. Our dinners were well prepared and our server was very pleasant but attention to detail is lacking. I even had to ask for a spoon after we received our cappuccinos. My husband used his iced tea straw to stir his sugar. Eventually she brought 1 spoon for both of us.

I took several co-workers out to dinner at Barra Rossa while we were in town for a seminar. The food was delicious, the drinks were great and the wait staff was attentive and polite. I wouldn't highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to have a nice meal at a casual, but classy location.

I joined a friend for dinner who eats here often and loves it. It was a nice choice - great service and very good food at reasonable prices.

It was our first visit to the restaurant and we were favorably impressed. The food was scrumptious. ..raspberry chicken salad, salmon sala, sausage and peppers, tuna panini. All were very tasty and we all said that we would order again. . Service was goo and friendly. We plan to return.

Had dinner this past Saturday and while we were happy with the food, we were turned off by the fact they brought us our apetizers after the main course.

We ate here with our grandsons while we were in Philadelphia. The food was OK and nothing better. The crab and linguini pasta had no taste at all. The rest was OK at best.

Had a grand Saturday lunch. Beautiful bruschetta with goat cheese. The best margherita pizza. Pasta was perfect. Their gelato with pound cake and berries was amazing!

After a long day of touring, we settled on Barra Rossa because of many vegetarian choices. Delighted with the service - our waiter was prompt, helpful, and personable. Switched us to a booth when we asked. Started with a wonderful zucchini fritti - thin strands of perfectly fried zucchini; large portion too. But, the mains left much to be desired. The panzanella salad was bland and the dressing was off-flavor, a mix of sour and bitter. The penne pinoli was very bland as well, almost flavorless, despite the sun-dried tomatoes, spinach, and pinoli nuts. Not a hint of garlic. Needed to salt everything. Would choose somewhere else, but would love to take the server with us!

Nice location out of the madness of the busy main roads of center city, but close enough to it. Walked from the convention center and it took maybe 15 minutes. The food was nothing spectacular though. My daughter order the penne with butter and there was maybe 20 pieces of penne in a small cup. I really am not sure how they expect that to even fill a child. Server was nice and pleasant as well as the hostess.

Nice cozy atmosphere, my husband and I Enjoyed the calamari, very tasty! Butternut squash soup was good but a little watery, sausage and peppers was good with a salad, Service was very good and prices ok, would recommend.

The food was delicious! It was just not enough, I was still hungry🙈 staff was very friendly and we got free water! Best restaurant in Eisenhower Avenue!

Had a so-so experience. Appetizers were very good - meatballs and fried zucchini. Booth table was very sticky. Main courses - Scallops some what dry,Gnocchi OK and a type of lobster tortellini was pretty bad - no lobster taste - could not tell was the sauce tasted like. Looked like we should have tried other main courses and Pizza. We liked the atmosphere and need to try again.

We chose this restaurant because we were seeing a show at the Walnut Street theater and it was close and well reviewed. We will never go back here and it wasn’t because of the food (it was just okay—pasta a bit over cooked, sauce a bit watery) but because of the service. Our waiter was fine but unfortunately we left our credit card there, which we realized the following day after we were already home—in another state. This was a Sunday. We immediately called the restaurant, who did have the card. Relieved, we asked them to mail it to us, gave our address, and offered to pay for the mailing. We were told no problem, they would take care of it. By the following Friday, we still had not received the card, so called the restaurant back. Guess what, they still had the card. Once again we were assured they would get it in the mail. By the following Wednesday, still no card. Called back again and you guessed it, they still had it. At this point we told them to forget it, we would cancel the card and get a new one because we did not trust that Barra Rossa would ever mail it to us. Very disappointed in the service as no one really seemed to care.

From the initial phone reservation call Barra Rossa's staff conveyed great customer service that continued to the end of our dinner. Staff efficiently serviced our large group and offered helpful advice regarding menu items. Our appetizers, pizzas and salads were all tasty and enjoyed.

Gracious host Nicholas Longobardi oversees a bustling yet low key Italian bistro with well prepared entrees, creative and perfectly cooked wood oven pizza, and beautiful dessert options, several made in house. Parking, theater, and shops both earthy and fashionable all around. About six blocks from city hall and a neighbor of the Thomas Jefferson University Medical Campus. Casual yet classy.

The menu was quite varied, and the cheese selection for an appetizer was excellent. No one in our party really loved any of their entrees.

I have to say even though they don't primarily serve vegan food, the one vegan option that I chose was sooo good. I had the vegan mushroom ravioli with pesto and it was to die for! The homemade limoncello was so good and the olive appetizer was also to die for! I would highly recommend this place to any Vegan who wants to have options for non-vegan friends and for fantastic vegan food as well!

There were hardly any People in the restaurant but still the service was extremely slow The food was ok but due to the service i Can only give it 3 (should have been 2,5) Thomas

OMG this place served the worst lunch I have ever had in Center City. My son and I ate here since it was so close to Jefferson Hospital. There were only 8-10 people sitting upstairs when we got there and yet the server took almost 25 minutes to bring us 2 sandwiches. We ordered the meatball and chicken parm sandwiches so that we could share them. They had absolutely no taste, in fact they were covered with so much cheese, there wasn't any meat product on them. The fries along side the sandwiches must have been leftovers from yesterday as they were gross. These 2 sandwiches cost me $23 and it was the worse meal I had ever had. Don't believe these people who are bragging - they are probably the servers who need their jobs.

We went with another couple for a light meal before the theater. We were seated promptly and the server (Steven) was very helpful and attentive. We ordered the large pear salad for the table. My wife ordered the large panzanella salad and a vegetable calzone. I opted for the ravioli pomodoro. Our carniverous friends had the braised meatballs and a fried calimari appetizer. All were delighted with their dishes and I concluded that the ravioli was among the best I've had anywhere. The place is fairly quiet, a big bonus that allowed us to comfortably converse and catch up.

This was the first time eating here. The food is amazing. Gorgonzola gnocchi was out of this world. The restaurant was sweltering hot and it really took away from our meal. We had to skip dessert and get the check because we were sweating so badly. I hope the air was broken because I would love to come back and enjoy my experience.

Central and very handy, we chose it for its gluten-free confidence. Our meal was great and the wine excellent if a bit on the pricey side.

Lots of good things about this restaurant like the ambiance and location. The wait staff was superior. However the food is definitely just average. The restaurant is on two floors and we wished we asked to sit downstairs.

Food location on the corner and not many other bars in the area . Food also available. We just had wine. Nice music. Service reasonable. Prices ok. Recommended.

Fantastic food with terrific service! My family of four (wife and kids) were pleasantly surprised by the quality of dishes. Mussels were perfectly prepared as was the calamari with fried yellow peppers mixed in (nice touch). The "Special Red" pizza had plenty of everything and with a Caesar salad, we were left completely satisfied!! The waitstaff was very friendly and accommodating to the family and offered up a good selection on the kids menu, not just chicken fingers! The Manager went out of his way to check on us during the meal to make sure we were enjoying ourselves and he even came outside before we walked away from the restaurant to thank us again for coming. If you're in Philadelphia, make sure you find your way to this very cool and very tasty spot!

The GM (Joseph Kakley) is a man child that will threaten to "slap the sh!t" out of you if you don't like his terrible meatballs. My wife left an honest review while we were still dining. The meatballs were tasteless. Bland. Canned sauce, boxed noodles. Anyone could do better at home. During our meal, I had a drink spilled on me from the level above, which honesly I couldnt have cared less about if i didnt have to argue to get a subpar dish removed from the bill. Before he came over, we had already made a reservation for New Years Eve. One bad dish doesn't ruin a restaurant from me but being threatened by the GM does. The GM thought it was appropriate to come accost my wife about leaving said review which came across as rude an unprofessional and honestly embarrassing to do infront of other customers. Tableside he told us we "shouldn't come back if you don't like the food" immediately after I explained to him that my dish, the drinks, and atmosphere were fantastic. He made more smart remarks as we left to which I told him I'd be writing a separate review mentioning him by name. Then he (and a cook) proceeded to follow us out of the restaurant and down the street threatening us in front of two police cars. If you can't take honest criticism, you shouldn't be putting any of your terrible recipes on the menu. Our waitress was lovely and service was quick, if not for the sensitivity man baby running the place I would happily return.

I enjoyed going to this establishment for Happy Hour! Great Menu and they also have Vegan options as well! The service was attentive and the offerings I chose was the calamari and meatballs. The calamari was done well..the meatballs could use some seasoning! I recommend the Jefferson Lemonade..well done! Overall, a great experience!

We were very pleased with the food and the pizza was 1/2 price when we visited. It was mid afternoon when we came, so the kitchen was fast with our order. It can be a neat place to hang out.

Great spot before or after theater. Sat at bar with friends. Best white pizza with truffle oil. Devoured! Perfect moscow mule in obligatory copper cup 😉. Terrific & funny female bartender. Plenty of menu choices. Will definitely return!

Stopped in as I was just passing by. I was pleasantly surprised at the great stuffed rigatoni and friendly staff! I would definitely stop here again!

Website photos of the interior are misleading. The actual interior is marginally clean and absolutely unappealing. Not sure why they call themselves a ‘wine bar’? Their wine selection is abysmal. Bar and table service was SLOW. Food was just ‘ok’. You can safely skip this restaurant. There are so many better choices just a stones throw away.

Had dinner here the other night. They have a very good range of GF pizzas and pasta. When my pizza came out it had the wrong toppings (for some reason the non-GF four cheese pizza has different cheese than the GF pizza?!) but the waiter Steve, was super-friendly and got me a new one in no time at all. When he heard I was GF, he even offered to have the kitchen bring me some special bread for the table. Good prices, nice ambience, great service, well-located on Walnut Street. I will definitely return the next time I am in Philly.

Had dinner there on a Sunday night. The place was almost empty yet the wait for the food was long. Had to ask for bread for the table. Just a few small pieces of bread. $20 antipasti and very expensive plate of spaghetti and meatballs which cost half the price in our town. Our waiter was filling in as a bartender, so he had to be called over to our table if we wanted anything. The other waiters kept their eyes focused on the floor or their phones. Not worth the visit.

My husband and I had lunch here and it was very good. We each had a sandwich but the pizza looked very good also.

I very much recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a nice dinner out, whether it be with friends, family, a date, it's great for all occasions! The atmosphere is very nice and our waitress was great. I would recommend making a reservation, especially for a weekend, as it's a bit small in the dining room, although there is an upstairs that we weren't in so I'm not sure what is up there. The food and drinks were reasonably priced and excellent. I had the filet with garlic mashed and a mushroom sauce and I would definitely get it again. We also shared a carafe of sangria that was a great price for how much you got. I would go back!

Excellent service. Great gluten free pizza. Excellent fun drinks. Keep in mind that this is a popular place to go before a show so reservations are a good idea.

We loved everything about Barra Rossa, from the service to the food. We get spinach and artichoke dip everywhere and theirs was by far the cheesiest and most delicious. Our pasta dishes were all wonderful as well. We would highly recommend this restaurant!

Had a great meal. Reasonably priced for Center CityGreat Service and just 1 block from the Walnut Theater.

This restaurant is excellent for a center city dining experience especially if you're going to the theater. They have a wonderful Prix-fixe menu that has a great selection and is reasonably priced. Good atmosphere and vibe. The management and Waite staff are very accommodating and attentive to their customers needs.

I asked the server if the pizza was large enough to share, as my husband and I planned to share a salad and a pizza and then have dessert. We were told they were too small to share so I ordered a white veggie pizza and my husband had the red pizza with sausage, meatballs, and pepperoni. Each had 8 slices, so we really should have ordered one pizza and one salad. For dessert, I had the cannoli and my husband had the cheesecake. The food doesn't compare to pizza and desserts in Italy, but we enjoyed our dinner and would certainly return as we are Walnut Street Theatre subscribers.

Italian eatery with a definite flair. The crew was superb and the food was quite good, to say the least. Prices for Philly a little on the high side but that seems the way it is. Both had the squash soup, which was fantastic, along with a salad. Excellent salad but quite small, even for lunch. Worth the stop if you can.

We took our young grandkids (3 and 4) after the children’s matinee at Walnut street theater. We had a nice lunch and was good. With the confusing in checking out we forgot to claim the 15% off with our theater stubs. We went right back and talked the the manager who was standing alone at the register and showed him our stubs. “Sorry you checked out...TOO LATE and I can’t help you.” He was rude and unhelpful. We visit the theater often...it will be a long time before we go back to Barra Rossa😐

Comfy, friendly, tasty food, convenient to theaters.Professional type staff, reasonable prices. Next door to a parking garage which makes it ultraconvenient for city visitors and theater goers.

A Very Very Very Bad Experience with the managers treated bad about the $20 lunch during restaurant week. We arrived let but informed we would be running late and once we arrived my diabetic blind nephew and I the manager tried telling us ( after we was told no problem about the lunch price)that we had to chose the $40 dinner my nephew explained that was right he then okayed it and let the kitchen prepare our food. I right away notice we were being watch by the whole staff, I looked up and notice as I felt their stare in their comings and goings. To make the long ordeal short once we got the bill it said $90- the stating manager sent another guy he said was the manager, this guy came speaking loud and hostile to us As I tried to get a word him to defuse he demeanor he would so I held up the menu to avoid speaking with him and he knocked it out of my hand yelling don't F--ucken put that in his face!!!! Then I and my nephew address him why he came over to us and I asked him why he cursed at me keeping come and trying to calm my blind nephew down his answer first was denial then he didn't care to I shouldn't be so sensitive he later called the cops on us I told him this will be reported!!!!

I just loved this place. Food was outstanding and the service was great. A true Italian place with a very good menu to choose from.

Mussels OK pizza not really Italian. Restroom dirty. Price for meal person from 30 dollars onwards.

House rose was very good, bartender was quick and helpful. Just in town for the afternoon going yo Walnut Theater very close by

Visited for lunch yesterday. Sounded better than it was. Tried arancini, minestrone, beet and cheese salads. Meatball Parm. Ice teas. Arancini lacked flavor, and taste. Eeeehhh. Minestrone OK. Salads good, but dressing added..way to much. Should have been "on the side". Not everyone likes a lot of dressing. Suggestion-Let the customer do it. Probably should have requested that. Meatball parmesean average, lacked flavor. Roll excellent. Server was very good, but was hurried by a large group, server was without "extra help". Not her fault, but took away from other customers. Ice tea barely tea. Very weak. Wanted pizza, but did not look good based on what we saw. But, to be fair, we did not try. If you want good pizza, drive to West Chester-Iron Hill Restaurant.

My 11 year-old son and I had an early dinner here on a Saturday night. We'd been tourists all day and probably looked a little tired but we're clean and polite and he's well-behaved. I feel like we were immediately judged however, as we were walked past perfectly fine empty tables and booths and seated at a high top directly next to the bathrooms and kitchen. That did not make me feel good about our experience. The food was fine, although I ordered a caprese salad with added grilled Portobello and the mushroom was cold. "Grilled" implies warm to hot, not "right out of the fridge" cold. His food was fine, and the service was quick - maybe because they wanted us out of there before the place got full? I won't be going back.

Having been here before and being in town, we decided to come here for a late lunch. A salad and pizza were ordered. The salad seemed to arrive within minutes of ordering. It was a large mixed greens and tomato with peppers , cucumbers and a vinaigrette with croutons. A margarita pizza was also ordered to split. For $9.00, the salad will be skipped next time. Not that it was bad, (it was good) but at that price s should have been larger and have more items in it. NOW the pizza. Having been to Italy and having the BEST pizza in Florence and Sorrento, this is a close second if not tied for first. We heave searched for a similar tasting pizza in Florida, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York and it remained elusive. We have finally found it. The only improvement would be the size. Go here, and enjoy. Plenty of parking in area garages near by.

Great Italian food selection and nice bar. Highly recommended as a pre-show go to in midtown Philadelphia. Good menu and very attentive staff.

We stopped here Sunday on our way out of Theater, so glad we did. This was our first visit to this restaurant but certainly won't be our last. Food and service were excellent! Great Italian dishes!

We had dinner before a show this week, around 5 pm on a Tuesday. There were some really fantastic parts of our meal: our server was fantastic, friendly, and attentive. The appetizers (deep fried asparagus and meatballs) were especially delicious - the ricotta served with the meatballs was out of this world! As far as entrees go, the chicken parmesan was very good. For dessert, two of us had mini mousse cups - also really good too. The location, less than a block from the Walnut Street Theatre made it a really easy place to have dinner, and the ambience is really neat. Unfortunately - there were a few not-so-fantastic parts: It was a very warm day, and the windows were open, presumably to let in a breeze, but resulted in a hot dining room, despite the air being on. It remained rather uncomfortable, especially for someone that minds the heat. The scallops, while in a really tasty dish, were tough, and the personal pizza was somewhat bland. The final thought? I’d go back again for sure - could very well have been just an off day, and there were enough positives to recommend it.

We stopped here after our show at the Walnut Street Theater. We received a discount after showing our theater tickets. We had eggplant parm and tried this arancini appetizer. The eggplant was sliced thickly. I like it that way so it was a pleasant surprise from the thinly sliced stuff I've had at other restaurants. The arancini tasted fine but it was a little pasty. The arancini I have had at other restaurants clearly had grain of rice visible and for texture. These were breaded paste balls that tasted fine but stuck to the roof of your mouth like peanut butter. I wouldn't order them again. I don't live in the city so city prices take me aback a little bit. I feel the prices were a little high but the food tasted good and service was quick.

My husband and I had dinner at Barra Rossa after seeing a show at the Walnut Street Theater (only a block away). The restaurant is a nice little Italian restaurant with a large bar and a mixture of booths and tables. The menu consists of antipasti, salads, pizza and entrees. My only complaint with the restaurant is that everything is ala carte. Personally, I think if you are paying $20-$30 for an entrée, you should at least get a small salad or cup of soup with it. Bowls of soup were $6 each and salads are $8-$9. My husband had the minestrone soup ($6) and the seared scallops ($26). He enjoyed both of them. I started my meal with the Pear Salad ($9). It was a large salad consisting of arugula, sliced pear, candied walnuts and cheese. I was disappointed because it was basically a heaping bowl of arugula with a little of the other ingredients. I could hardly taste the dressing, the salad was very dry. I then had the Crab and Linguini ($19) which was excellent. The dish had a large amount of lump crab meat in it and was very tasty. The menu had a large variety of pizzas on it. I think if we go there again, we will just have pizza and beer. The restaurant also provides either a 10% or 15% discount to theater goers.

The quaintly decorated restaurant is staffed with wonderfully courteous servers. I was tight on my lunch schedule and the bartender agreed to do all she could to get me in and out in a half an hour. She delivered on her promise and I was back to work and on time for my meetings. The tuna Panini was delicious. It's nontraditional in that it does not use mayonnaise but rather olive oil. A nice vinaigrette with a leafy green salad made for the perfect lunch. Recommended.

This isn't a place that jumps out at you even though it's at a busy corner. It's tucked next to a parking garage, and isn't much from the outside. Inside though the staff is friendly, the food is good and the happy hour specials are delicious. They have an upstairs bar area and meeting rooms too. I had the veal tenderloin special, and it was excellent.

We’re really disappointed with the food. For the price we expected more. We ordered mussel for appetizer and the crab linguine for the entree. The flavor is good but the seafood didn’t taste fresh. One of the cocktails Inga’s night out was ridiculous. It was literally one sip like a shot with tons of ice. Although the service was fine, there were 2 incidents. The waitress spilled the sauce onto the ground while taking the plates away but since I was sitting on the aisle side, the sauce splashed onto my jacket. Then a waiter was cleaning the table diagonal to ours, he was using a spray which sprayed onto me. Overall, very disappointed.

Stopped in for lunch after doctors appointment. What a find! We shared the meatballs with fresh ricotta, some of the best I ever had, marinara sauce delicious. The portobello with lump crab & basil olive oil was wonderful, and it was lump crab. The capresse salad was fresh and the mozzarella fabulous. Casey our server was attentive, checked on us often and brought us additional ricotta. Lastly, the Rose’ paired perfectly with all courses.

This is very near our hotel. We had Malbec wine. Very pleasant Batman. Busy but not packed. Old fashioned interior with large windows. Didn’t eat but other reviews say food is good. I’d come back.

Although always busy as a spot for a pretheater meal, Barra Rossa should not be overlooked as a destination casual source of great neighborhood Italian food. At a recent dinner we sat at the bar and were given outstanding service by a very busy, friendly bartender. A grilled salmon dinner salad featured an ample-sized filet of Atlantic salmon, grilled to perfection, atop a bed of spinach, roasted peppers & artichoke hearts. Clearly the best size-to-price portion of salmon around! (The sun dried vinaigrette dressing needs some fine-tuning, however.) Another entree of penne in a vodka rosa sauce with sun fried tomatoes was delicious, and a white mushroom pizza was generous with the toppings but the crust came up short in flavor and texture. Overall a delightful dinner in a friendly, attentive restaurant - clearly worth a return visit.

My daughter and I come here before our Sunday night shows at the Walnut Street Theatre. The food is consistently good and the service is as well. We can't seem to get past ordering the Ravioli with Pesto it is so delicious. We also order the Caprese Salad and it would be nice to have just a little bit more on the plate for the price. We always enjoy our meal at Barra Rossa.

Thanks to the staff at Barra Rossi, my husband and I had a nice pizza and wine break in less than an hour. (Our daughter was in a nearby hospital and we needed to get back.) The pizza with sweet Italian sausage and broccoli rabe was excellent and the house Pinot Grigio was very good. There was also a reasonably priced fixed price meal that would have been nice with more time available. It was a Sunday night and very quiet, soothing for us.

Heard good things about this restaurant and we were not diappointed. Had portabella mushroom with lump crab meat drizzled with a basil oil. It was excellent. Great place for those who eat a vegan diet.

Dinner on Mother's Day after Wharton graduation. Had reservations and had to change, called and the staff was more than accommodating to change, booths upstairs are very tight . Ordered pizza fru fru for a starter, was under cooked for our liking. Meatballs were good, seared shrimp wasn't seared or grilled at all, but very flavorful, great on the crostini. Entrees were the average... Seared tuna seemed like a frozen tuna filet, although the salad it was served over, with a variety of olives was enjoyable. The tortellini al carne was a heavy mess

The staff was efficient, maybe a bit too efficient. We ordered soup, salad and a pasta meal. My partner and I shared the salad and the pasta, as it was lunch time. The soup was tepid and I waited a moment to see if the server would check back to see if everything was OK. She did not, so we ate the soup as we had a show to catch at 2:00. When the server picked up the soup bowl, I told her it tasted good but was not nearly hot enough. She said she'd report that. The chop salad was mediocre and I wouldn't recommend it. They split that in the kitchen but we were told they couldn't split the ravioli dish in the kitchen, not a big deal in itself but we had to make do with the dishes on the table. When the server came we asked for bread. She brought 4 small rolls. Apparently the customer needs to ask for bread there. I had a glass of wine. It all came to $74 which was expensive for lunch. While we were eating the soup, the salad was served, while we were eating the salad, the ravioli was served but we asked for it to be brought back in 10 minutes. They must not have put it under a heat lamp because that, too, was tepid. From other reviews I've read here, it looks like management has some work to do to get this place in shape.

Barra Rossa is by far one of my favorite restaurants in Philadelphia. I stumbled upon this restaurant when I went to see a show at the Walnut Street Theatre and this was right down the street. My family loved it! I came back during restaurant week with two friends, we all loved it! I then noticed how they can accommodate their menu for gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan diets. So I decided to have my birthday dinner here with about 12 people and we got a private room. The dinner was amazing, and Nick, their events coordinator was so great to work with. Fast forward to about 3 years after my first visit and I just had my wedding rehearsal dinner there with about 45 guests. We had a whole room to ourselves and again, Nick as so great to work with and dealt with my many questions quickly. The table arrangements for the large of a group was a bit strange for a dinner party but we made it work and knew about that ahead of time. I can't say enough good things about Barra Rossa and can't wait for my next visit!

This is our “go-to” dinner restaurant when attending plays at the Walnut Street Theater. The food is consistently delicious. Service is always helpful and pleasant. Our group of eight has very different tastes and yet we all find food that pleases us. The zucchini appetizer is beyond delicious. And to make the night even better .... discount for theater-goers. I’ve told many people about Barra Rossa.

"You got it," our perky server said, as she efficiently took & completed our brunch orders, which arrived quickly, hot & delicious. The omelets were bulging with fresh ingresients & the pasta perfectly cooked & with Ella Fitzgerald singing in the background, brunch here was the perfect choice before a matinee at nearby Walnut Theater.

This is a terrific restaurant in the heart of the Theater district in Philly. I picked it because it was in walking distance to the Walnut Theater. Great Italian food menu, good wine list, and great service. Portions were huge and very reasonably priced!

Food is amazing! Chicken parmigiana comes with FRESH fettuccine! The pickle pizza was surprisingly delicious! Who would have thought.

A very good restaurant. We went there to have a salad.Clean and value for money. Ceasar salad was nothing special but the salad with dry tomato and blue cheese was amazing.portobelos with crub a very well coocked and tasty choice. I recommend this place.Definetely will visit again.

We went here for a quick lunch one day while visiting my Dad in the hospital across the street. The food was awesome! It was a really bright spot in an otherwise not great day. I can’t recommend this place enough. In fact, it was so good that we went back to get some take out a few days later. My husband had the Chicken Parmesan and he said it was the best he had ever had. So of course I got that the second time and he was right. Utterly delicious. I had the Vodka Penne and it was one of those meals that ever bite makes you happy you got it. Mom had the four cheese pizza which was delicious as well.

Nice little spot in the city right across from Jefferson...pizza was excellent, crisp, hot and just the right amount of sauce ( arugula and prosciutto)...roast pork panning presented well with a side salad and delish dressing...sandwich was hot and good...service was attentive...

Delish place and the service was outstanding!! The girl had incredible gluten free bread and pizza - the best I've ever had. Guys love their veal parm, shrimp and scallops and the kids all devoured their pizzas and desserts. Absolutely a must go!

I loved the grilled salmon salad and husband's tortellini was great. The bartender helped wait on us and was attentive and friendly, with good recommendations for food. Great atmosphere, loved the decor. A wonderful find.

I was in town for a business meeting in downtown Philadelphia. A friend and I were seated at the bar for dinner. I was a bit surprised to see a “homeless appearing” (unfortunately there are many in the area) individual roaming inside the restaurant and more surprised when he got very close to me asking for money. Afterwards I realized that I had been pickpocketed by a pro, inside the restaurant at its bar. To my chagrin the host seemed bothered to be troubled with calling the police or being helpful the least bit. Philadelphia is out of control but there is no excuse for what I experienced.

Nice bistro, Italian style. Stopped for lunch, had a delightful glass of Portuguese Rose, and had a little trouble deciding what to order. Casey was a big help, and we settled on the meatballs and ricotta, portabellas with crab, and a caprese salad. Meatballs were delicious, crab/portabella decent, and caprese was authentic, world class. Can't wait to get back with some friends. Service and food was first rate.

This restaurant was recommended by a local when we asked for a good Italian option. It was a bit pricier than we had anticipated, but the quality is worth it. If you're looking for authentic Italian pasta dishes, this is a great space. Set on two levels, the space is really well designed and laid out and the atmosphere is lively and friendly. The staff are really friendly and the menu is one where you know you're spoiled for choice. A great experience.

I ordered spaghetti and meatballs and figured with a $24 price tag it should be pretty decent but was met with tasteless, soggy meatballs, boxed spaghetti noodles, and a bland (probably canned) marinara. If it had been half the price I wouldn't have been bothered but that is quite a bit of money for some REALLY mediocre food, so as we were sitting I left an HONEST google review and mentioned that the food was unimpressive but I did like the drinks and the atmosphere and had even made another reservation for a few weeks out, DESPITE not liking the food, because I really did like the place and the atmosphere, the waitress was lovely and the service was very fast. However, when the check came, we politely asked the waitress to take the spaghetti off because it really was not worth $24 and there was also some kind of leak from the upstairs that kind of killed the experience. She said she'd bring the manager over and Joseph Kakley agreed to take the meatballs off the tab, but not before berating me for leaving a FAIR AND HONEST review because that is "his personal meatball recipe" and apparently I'd hurt his feelings. First of all, how weird is it to read my name on my bank card and match it up to the review and then APPROACH me about it in front of other customers because your fragile ego was hurt. Secondly, most people would read honest criticism and try to improve but this guy and one of the cooks LITERALLY followed my husband and I out of the restaurant and made an absolute embarrassment out of themselves trailing us down the block and threatening to "slap the sh*t out of us." All because I said the meatballs needed some salt? How fragile can you possibly be?? I genuinely hope the owner of the establishment reads this review because if this was my restaurant and my general manager (and cook!!!) were behaving this way in front of customers (who had every intention of giving the place another shot right up until this happened!), I would be LIVID. I've never been disrespected like this ANYWHERE in Philly and I will be telling this story to anyone who will listen because no one else should have to put up with what we did tonight. I might check back in a month or so and see if this loser's name is still on the business cards. If not, I would be happy to try it again, but definitely not as long as Joseph Kakley is "in charge" (in quotes because it seems to me he can't even manage his own feelings, let alone an entire restaurant). Overall, I would have had a better time and better food and spent less money at Olive Garden. That is just sad, and I implore this place to do better because it really could be a nice spot.

Great menu! Friendly and professional service. Only downfall was the cleanliness of he venue and crockery.

My family and I had a very lovely dinner the other night. We were a party of three. Two of us had the chicken abruzzi and the 3rd had spaghetti and meatballs. We all enjoyed what we ate-my son-in law cleaned his plate while my daughter and I did our best to finish the very large portion. While I thought my chicken was very tasty, were I to order it again I would ask for a lighter hand with the sauce-it seemed a bit overpowering, but certainly not sufficient to do anything to cause me to dislike the dish. Dessert was a shared piece of delicious very light lemon cake. I have noticed that most restaurants do not routinely serve bread with meals these days. While I am sure we could have requested some, I think some crusty Italian bread would have been great to dip into the tasty sauce. All in all, I would recommend this restaurant for a nice informal dinner. On another note. our server was extremely competent and pleasant.

Sunday night in Philly was very busy. Looking for an Italian near out hotel (Holiday Inn Express) and Barra Rossa was a short walk away. Food and service was excellent despite it being very busy.

Husband and I have eaten here and reviewed several times as we are subscribers to the Walnut Street Theater on the next block. Food has always been good and the prices are reasonable. We made a reservation to enjoy a nice pre-Valentine's dinner after a show, early enough (5PM) that the restaurant was only barely filled. However...much to my disappointment this time was a let-down and will be our last. Our server Lisa was less than attentive. She didn't write down our order, and I was surprised that she came back when we were on our second course to ask me what I ordered again. Our entrees were served quickly after...so quick that my Salmon was not cooked. When I didn't want to take her up on the offer to "reheat" it, the manager Nick L. eventually came over. He offered to have a new dish prepared but by then my husband was finished his meal. Not wanting to wait, I declined. After having to flag Lisa down (she was avoiding our table at this point) she came back eventually with the bill and said, "I took your salmon off the bill". Did you....? I should hope so...I didn't get to eat it! On our way out I attempted to convey our disappointment to the manager Nick that they would have even considered charging me. He was very indignant and hostile. In a very poor display of customer service he asked what I wanted from him, he did his part and offered to get me a new dinner. I replied that I wanted nothing but expected better customer service...his response was, "I've done all I'm going to do then, so I guess you got what you wanted and I think we're done here." I have never encountered such a lack of professionalism in the service industry than with this person. His attitude was one of “we messed up, oh well, too bad for you”. Barra Rossa needs to be reminder food and value means nothing when your service is sub-par. Plenty of other choices out there.

Fantastic restaurant & wonderful waiting staff. We started with antipasto , excellent mortadella & Parma Hall , Gorgonzola & goats cheese, I then had scallops with risotto & my husband had limp crab with linguine. The food was freshly cooked & very tasty. Bottle of Pino Grigio was chilled & delicious. Finished our meal with Limincello. Excellent food, surroundings & service. Definitely recommend & would return

Once again, we tried this restaurant after the theater. The cocktails took forever, even though the bar was nearly empty and the tables far from full. What the bartender was doing is beyond us. The chopped salads could have been more interesting with Acme leftovers. The pastas were adequate and definitely not exciting. A most disappointing experience,

I worked with Nick to plan our wedding welcome party for 100 guests on a Friday night at Barra Rossa. I used to plan events professionally so I have a really high standard when it comes to customer service when planning parties. I spoke with and visited about 10 restaurants which were our top choices around our wedding hotel and Barra Rossa was by far the best choice. Nick was incredibly responsive, friendly, flexibly and provided so much help in the planning process. Let me preface this by saying some of the restaurants I visited spoke to (famous Philly spots) were a nightmare to deal with. They took a week to reply or didn't write back at all when you're asking them to take your money. Nick was the complete opposite, a professional during the entire process. The event itself went off perfectly. We were a group of 100 high maintenance New York City people who I something think that complaining is a sport. Not a single person has anything bad to say, everyone was raving about the food, the service and how friendly the staff was. We booked out the entire top floor and Nick set it up perfectly with both bars open, plenty of seating, food throughout the giant space, coat racks and checked in throughout the night. He also went above and beyond to provide special food for one of our guests with deathly food allergies as well as one kid who is just a pain when it comes to eating :). We had an open bar, top shelf booze, a ton of food that was spread throughout the evening and had more than enough space for 100 people to party. I would say about 50 of our guests had so much fun they stayed late after the party was open and kept drinking on their own tab. If you're looking for a beautiful event space with great F&B packages, don't hesitate and book here. This was the best bang for your buck around Old City/Center city. Thanks again Nick, we had so much fun!

We enjoyed meeting up with family and enjoyed our lunch in the city. Service was good and we each had a delicious lunch. We would go back.

Fresh salad options. Good Italian crust pizza/ingredients. Upstairs or downstairs seating. Pizza and salad for 2 with tip was about $35. Right next to Jefferson Hospital.

NEVER ORDER FOOD THAT WILL BE DELIVERED FROM HERE!!! Staff is okay with allowing prepared/ready food sit on pick up counter for over 40mins until driver picks it up for delivery. Lastly, awful customer service... no sorry for the inconvenience or cold food was given.

Stopped in after seeing a play at the Walnut St. Theater on a recommendation of a friend. It was busy but the girl at the front was working very hard getting people seated. We got a table upstairs - she asked us first if we were OK with going up the steps. Our server was very good, and the food was outstanding. We had the calamari and the Caprese salad for appetizers. I love calamari and this met the challenge. I had the ravioli alla nonna and loved it. My wife had the gorgonzola gnocchi which she loved. We will definitely return.

I ate an early quick dinner here at Barra Rossa in February 2017. I had two slices of vegetable pizza for a total of five dollars. It was absolutely delicious.

The place is a fun and fast paced place. I did go on a Friday evening. We sat at the bar since we did not have reservations and this was a spur of the minute dinner. The mussels were okay. The spaghetti and meatballs were okay...needed more sauce and I should have asked. The dish my son had was okay but better than mine. The salads were good and the bread very good. The bartender was very good considering how busy he was. It almost seemed that they might have been short handed that night but it did not cause any problems. The pizza looked very good and many people were having it. I feel like some dishes are better than others and people come back for those. I would go back.
Delicious dinner before a show!
Great place to have dinner before attending a show at the Walnut Street Theater. Easy parking in a garage nearby and walking distance to the theater.
