Chaotic service

By McPidd |

We were asked to wait in the lobby until a table became free, we were advised it would be 10 minutes maximum. We sat in a soul-less area with a couple of chairs and after 20 minutes we were still there. We noticed other couples coming in and being seated straight away so went and asked the hostess if there was a table free yet as we had noticed other people being seated straight away. She had the good grace to look embarrassed, she had completely forgotten about us! She seated us at a table with the worst wobble ever, the waitress was pleasant enough but a bit distracted. We ordered drinks and a meal, the meal arrived five minutes after the meal, but only after we reminded her of our order. The food was fine but overall I wouldn't recommend.

Terrible service and bad food

By P0tts1948 |

It’s our last day in San Francisco and we wanted a nice breakfast before a bus tour and then a flight home. I ordered French toast which took ages to come. Non commits staff and when my food arrived it was cold and had obviously been sitting around for a while. My daughter had a cooked breakfast which didn’t look great but she ate hers. I sent mine back. A guy in a neighbouring seat offered to share his fries with me. So kind.

Dinner and a beer

By Traci M |

Very good Bartlett burger with gorganzolla and grilled onions. The IPAs were very good too. Calamari appetizer was okay but not anything special though the sweet and spicy dipping sauce was excellent. We would definitely return here. Cool Pub atmosphere!

Variable food, Good service

By Alex2607 |

We dined here for dinner. The buffalo cauliflower to start was full on. The nice tempura califlower was totally drowned by the buffalo sauce, disappointing. The serve was large. The Turkey Club Sandwich was also large and packed with Turkey. The fish and chips was pleasant but the serve was small. The service was good.

Disaster level service

By NeilByrne |

Hard to try to describe the experience of Bartlett Hall other than to say it was the worst service experienced during our trip to San Francisco. First of all we called in for breakfast having being recommended it by our hotel Reception. I had asked for a breakfast burrito without any dairy or eggs however it inevitably arrived with eggs. No big deal, we sent this back and had a fresh one made for us. The service on this day was fine so on day 2 we thought we would try it gain. This is where the fun started. Owing to having no waiting staff we seated ourselves. When I asked a passing member of staff if we could see two menus he took the unusual step of walking around behind me to talk to the back of my head before I was pointed over to the bar where I eventually place our order. Having paid for two coffees which never materialised I asked same personality if we could have the self service coffee machine refilled. This time I was met with a shrug of the shoulders and ignored as he walked on to gesticulate with one of his colleagues. I complained to the bar tender who was having to double as a waiter for the morning and was told that there had been an electricity outage and there would be no coffee. Probably sounds like a small point but I dont understand why the charge people for drinks they know they can't provide and then shrug their shoulders when customers ask for them. Take my advice, there are lots of good diners around the Union Street area. This is not one of them.

Great Happy Hour Spot

By J4Justice |

Went to Bartlett Hall during Happy Hour. Beer (I had the IPA) was very tasty. I would highly recommend it. Also had the Buffalo Cauliflower which was VERY good. Portion size was large enough to make it a meal for one. Great atmosphere. Loved the bar. Not a "sports bar", but they do have TVs. Great place to relax and enjoy some great craft beer.

Early start with family

Just round the corner from our hotels , large choice for breakfast but make sure you are hungry huge meals , prompt service

Stumbled upon a gem

By goddo555 |

Really enjoyed my solo dinner here. Was keeping an eye out for somewhere and literally found this out of nowhere. The best part was it’s also a brewery - my favorite venue. Their beers were solid without being spectacular. Good service, nice ambience. All round good vibe. Came back for breakfast the next day.

Hidden gem

By Family4Perth |

Popped in for a meal on our last night in San Fransisco and were very pleasantly surprised. Menu was small but had a good range and food was excellent and reasonably priced. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable on the beer they brewed in-house, which was also very nice. The bar looked quite small from the street but was surprisingly large with an extended back section with tables and comfy booth seating. Good ambience as well.

Beer & nice casual spot

By Kerryloves2travel |

Great spot for beer & burger or sandwich right off Union Square shopping. Nice atmosphere. Now that Lefty's has closed we were stumped where to meet the guys for lunch & take a break from shopping. This spot was perfect. Old school SF feel. Sweet potato fries perfect with a beer. Club sandwich ( which I split) was perfect lighter lunch.

Good american bar with sports tv's - staff very good and friendly

By cegaservices |

Food was good - I had fish and chips. Many types of beer and a varied menu. Location is good and place filled with families and happy people.

Good gathering place

By Scissorkickers |

I can see how this place is considered a great meeting place for drinks etc. I thought the food was average. Cauliflower and fries were popular. I had fish and chips and they were good but not in my top 5 I’ve had. I would go back though.

Fantastic food in downtown.

By David H |

I stopped here for a dinner. The atmosphere was nice although I ended up getting my order to-go. The fish and chips were awesome. Tasty fish, a bit greasy, but with nice breading. The fries were battered and really good. Thier tartar sauce tasted homemade and was good. The bread pudding was wonderfully dense with a nice caramel sauce and ice cream. Really a very nice and filling meal.

Nice service at the bar

I had the fish taco and a white Russian, and I was very happy! Service was great and I would recommend

Great spot in Union Square

By Shimmergrl |

A great spot near my hotel for a good beer and bite. I had one of their guest beers, which was delicious and a bowl of clam chowder, which was very tasty. I sat at the bar, so can't speak to table service, but the bartenders were pleasant and attentive. The ambiance was soothing and comfortable, too.

Horrible service!

By RaquelSanJose |

We stopped by to meet my cousins who were having lunch. My boyfriend and I each ordered a drink far before my cousins ordered their food. I waited 15 minutes for my drink; my boyfriend waited 30 minutes, then complained. The waiter was very rude and accused him of changing his mind, then got a manager. The manager's English was not very good and he didn't seem to understand the situation or how to handle it. It was a very frustrating experience.

Good food near theaters and Powell St. BART

By Jeffrey D |

4 retired former work partners got together for a casual lunch. We each were able to get to the restaurant via public transit - MUNI or BART. Very convenient. The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice and casual. Service was really nice and relaxed, but attentive when necessary. We stayed for nearly 3 hours without a hint of pressure to leave. The food options were varied and the dishes we ordered were all very good. Portions were generous.

Service was literally non-existent

By KRBren |

Last Saturday we wanted to get drinks and food before seeing a show at the Curran Theatre around the corner. Although I made a reservation and arrived early, I didn't feel like the staff wanted to serve us at all. We were seated and waited about 10 min before someone came to the table; it turns out this person was just bringing water glasses and didn't ask about ordering food or drinks and he promptly disappeared. We waited another 15 min, then asked the hostess to help as we hadn't been approached for ordering yet. She said she would find our waiter but on one ever came by. It honestly made me feel super awkward to be sitting in a restaurant full of staff and to have them all ignore us. After sitting there for 30 mins total with no drink order in and no sign of a waiter, we decided that Bartlett Hall did not want our business and left to find somewhere that did. We ended up around the corner at a Tapas restaurant even closer to the theatre.

Nice beer and happy hour menu

By Lorne S |

We stumbled on this place across from our hotel. Found happy hour beers and snacks. I tried two of their own brews, a double IPA and a porter. My guest and I split fries and pizza. 23 bucks for it all. Nice service. Recommend

Good for Breakfast

By MattZ |

Pretty standard breakfast menu with fair prices. Tasted decent. There was only one server working, but he was working his butt off. Hope management takes notice of his hard work. Didn't come here for a drink but the ambiance lends itself nicely to a cocktail or two in the evening I would imagine. I would recommend this place.

Brew Pub

By riny |

Bartlett Brewery Hall is a large brew pub centrally located in downtown San Francisco. They have a selection of house brews as well as other beers on tap. The service is friendly.

Was attracted by the busy pub like atmosphere. Disappointed.

By Charles J |

From the street it looked very interesting, dark panelling, long bar, plenty of tables and stools. Drink prices were an absolute rip off and the barmen appeared not interested in serving the customers. Would never go back. Sorry.

Good place for a quick lunch

By too_few_trips_1 |

We had a good lunch at Bartlett Hall. The menu has a good range of salads and sandwiches as well as a few larger entrees. I had the fish and chips and enjoyed the dish. Service was prompt.

Unreliable - Unprofessionally Managed

By Bardia A |

Received a call couple of hours before our 2.00 pm lunch reservation from Bartlett Hall, letting me know they could no longer honor the reservation. The reservation was made over a week in advance for group of 5 with 2 youngsters. The reason for cancellation: A party that same evening for which they had decided to cancel our lunch reservation. When asked why they had accepted the reservation knowing they had a party that evening, they blamed "open table" for taking the reservation. When I inquired what had prevented them to notify me sooner, I was told something about their staff vacation schedule. There was no remorse, no apology, no acceptance of any responsibility, no options, no alternatives, no offers. Pretty much a "feel free to take your business somewhere else, we don't care that much" attitude around the whole cancellation. We did. I suggest you do as well.

Fun atmosphere

By ddsanders123 |

Good pizza and fun atmosphere. Not loud and super close seating like other place. Very relaxed and casual vibe.

Excellent Food Though a Little Noisy

By MikeKWisconsin |

We knew that Perbacco was highly rated on TripAdvisor, and that is exactly what we found. The service was excellent as was the food and wine. Dishes are prepared in unusual ways, but everyone at our table was amazed at the quality. This was a special occasion during our visit to San Francisco, and we will be back.

The impossible burger

By Elizabeth Leah K |

Central location, spacious pub-diner with good service, yummy food, especially loved The impossible burger and very reasonable pricing. We were here for a reunion of small group of old friends, some with young kids, it was a great setting where people could eat, talk, hear each other, mingle - great experience all up.

Chilled and comfortable

By Oceanus |

Lovely place for a drink, not too loud, great table service, friendly staff, foods good, beer selection good, very comfortable seating, non of this hard bar steel nonsense ! This was my favourite place to have a few nice ales in a relaxed atmosphere.

Great bar and food

By Susan P |

We were a party of 10 that went on a Wednesday night. The place was packed. We sat at a long high top table in the bar area. We got excellent service. We were all drinking something different and wanted more at different times. That was no problem for our server. The burgers were great.

Pleasant breakfast

By PamAlbury |

I had fruit salad and croissant with juice and my partner had the eggs, bacon and potatoes plus coffee. All good and quick service. Pleasant decor.

Cool place

By Reslimpan |

Nice place with a pretty cool atmosphere. They brew their own beers on the premises and the IPA currently on tap was really good. I had the cubano sandwich, big serving, the novelty for this particular cubano was the focaccia bread. Great bar and outstanding service from the bartenders.

Meh...

By ilovetotravel1995 |

Just ok. There’s a lot more restaurants to choose from in San Fran. Very loud. Ok service. Ok food. We didn’t use the bar service but it looked extensive. My husband had the flank steak said it was nothing special. I only got a salad because nothing seemed to impressive to me. Overall we felt like we wasted a meal here. We are foodies so we wanted some flavorful and different pub type food. We didn’t find it here.

A Very Happy Happy Hour

By Macsterauburn |

We happened upon Bartlett Hall when we were looking for somewhere to kill time while waiting for friends to join us. We sat at the bar intending to have a quick drink and leave. However, the Happy Hour menu looked too good to resist. We tried the sausage appetizer pizza and almost ordered a larger one, it was so good. The cinnamon cider cocktail was just like drinking a slice of very good apple pie. It wasn't just the food that kept us there for over an hour. The bar staff was friendly and entertaining. We enjoyed watching the mix masters create the cocktails. We enjoyed ourselves so much, we went back for dinner the next night.

Great Breakfast

By NaughtyBri |

Great breakfast, I had the French toast and my girlfriend had pancakes. Cool bar with TVs, good place to eat and pretty cheap! Staff friendly.

Great friendly bar

By Jim W |

I was in town by myself and was very pleased to stumble across Bartlett Hall for a few drinks. The service was excellent and company was great. I thought it had a great atmosphere and really enjoyed myself there - I made friends, enjoyed the live music and just had a great time. Beers and wines were very good; I didn't try any food.

Comfortable bar, good food.

By Ross W |

I have eaten here every time I have been in SanFran. I always feel welcome. Love the couches and fireplace in the front of the bar.

decent beer selection and food

By Mike D |

A big group hit them up on a Thursday night and we were able to be seated together. The server was friendly and the food was good pub fare! It met all expectations.

Not what I expected

By Brewstar_54 |

Nice enough place, food was American sport bar style. Interesting that you are directed to book, which I did, but when I arrived there was no reserved space for me and I got wedged between mad sports fans in the middle of the bar. Good to watch the game, just not what I was expecting based on what I read here

Lunch at the bar

By sarivergirl |

Had a burger and fries here before catching a flight ... food was well prepared and the bar is really nice. Bar tenders were friendly but not very attentive. TVs were tuned to sports and it has a nice ambiance. I missed breakfast but the menu looked appealing.

Great escape after touring the city or shopping

By Luko V |

I have returned to Bartlett Hall after a year time. It was good to see that this pub has kept the same vibe. This is a pub...dont expect something else. It has great selection of American brews and food is awesome. It is a great escape from the city busy streets after touring or shoping. You quickly get back to normal after exhausting walkings. I have not been here in the evening but certainly it is a great place for a quick bite and few beers over lunch.

Great experience!

By Katie M. Wood |

Great place to eat! The staff was friendly and welcoming, loved the feel/ambiance of the place, and the seating was comfortable. The food came fast and was tasty; good amount for the price.

Great foot and atmosphere

By Christy N |

This is an older building for a lot of character. Our waiter was friendly and seemed to enjoy his job. The food was excellent and fast. I had the chicken breast sandwich and it was thick, juicy and came with the best crispy French fries ever. Definitely would go back when in SF again.

Lovely atmosphere

By SCORPIO67 |

Went here for a couple of drinks, nice atmosphere met some really nice people. Was busy, serving food which looked really nice

Affordable Breakfast

By Diana Z |

We stayed at a sister hotel of the Bartlett Hall and were offered a breakfast deal for $7. Opted for pancakes and juice which were served fast. It is more of a bar atmosphere with large screen tvs dominating the space, but the food was fine.

Cool bar setting with nice small plates

By LucyPorky |

Fresh squeezed grapefruit juice and I'm home! Stopped in for small plates and cocktails several times during our stay in San Fran. Nice staff and I enjoyed getting to know some locals that highly recommend Bartlett Hall. We never had the opportunity for a full dinner, but were pleased with our experience.

Good value happy hour

By Brisbane_Catlady |

We popped in here after it was recommended to us. We arrived for happy hour where there was a good selection of drinks and food included. We sat at the bar and the service was great and there was a good atmosphere with a number of after work drinkers. We enjoyed it that much, we popped in a couple more times as it was close to our hotel.

Very decent brunch

By GarrenB |

I dropped in for a few beers and a sandwich. The bar itself is really lovely and has a really chilled vibe. Their own draft beer was great and the food pretty decent too. Not the best chicken sandwich but still pretty good. Regretted not opting for the burger. It looked amazing. Would certainly return.

Limited selection of beers

By Jett Streamer |

For a micro brewery / craft ale bar and gastropub, the selection of beers and food were disappointing. There were very few non- “IPA” style beers and they had run out of 2 of their most popular, The menu is also not very inventive.

Ace beer ace food ace service!

By Will N |

Title says it all. Atmosphere was amazing along with the food and service. Steaks cooked to perfection and seafood pasta was beautiful. Beer selection is great as well. Great value and a must visit.

Lively downtown beer hall

By GeneseoSupremo |

Not a traditional beer hall of course, but a San Fran style that has a lot of good things going. Came on a very busy Monday night and had good service, solid appetizers and a couple of good beers. Good looking place with energy and good feel. Enjoyed it.

Food poisoning

By Billy M |

Not a lot to say other than 2 of us out of 6 people had food poisoning after eating the chicken sandwich. And some others didn’t feel great after the burger. Either poor hygiene or bad meat.

If you like to see what your eating try somewhere else..

By claire Lloyd |

We called here on the 1st night of our holiday after looking at reviews. What we found was dark and dingy with over priced poor food. Yes there was plenty of food on your plate but all of our meals had a burned taste to them and food came out that quickly it couldn’t have been made to order. We all left most of our food and didn’t return. Tables lit by 1 small candle needed to use light of mobile phone to see the menu. We should have left at that point. No idea if food was slightly burnt as couldn’t see it properly in the light.

Fun bar atmosphere, good for drinks

By Sharmistha Ghosh Das |

Although we went into Bartlett Hall for brunch, the place has a vibe that almost resonates with a sports bar. The drinks are good. The pizza and burger are standard. Worth a one time visit if you are staying near Union Square.

Hopping place

By David C |

Came on a Thursday night and it was packed. Great food and beer. Service was good despite being busy.

Reception dinner and party

By 62cody |

They closed for a private event and we loved it. Fun place for a reception. The bar and wait staff were in the ball. Great job.

Great place for a casual dinner

By koolD187 |

Great choice of drinks and causal food Not a very extensive menus but you have good choice of casual food Location is great especially if you attending a conference at nearby places like HILTON

Nice relaxing dinner and drinks.

By PJI_NY |

We visited while in town with our Tradeshow for the week. It came recommended from others from prior night visits. We were a group of 5 and easily says and had great service, food and drink. Our server was great and attentive to details and keeping food available and table cleaned and watered. The selection of food was great, we started with 3 appetizers highly recommended followed by dinner and mostly beers. The selection of beer was nice and not too overwhelming.

over priced but tastes good - I did takeout

By LLLLLNNNNN |

Took the portobello sandwich - I liked it but it's pricey at over $17. The fries that came with it were crispy outside soft inside - nice. If you don't mind the price it can be a good choice.

Surprising in a nice lively place

By MRich700 |

Very casual with good local beers. We had burgers that were very tasty and not too traditional (Brie and Gorgonzola). The Alfredo pasta were also very good. Not too cooked. Good place to go to.

Bartlett Hall - Perfect beer and cocktail bar

By BeLu London |

This does not seem to be like a hotel bar, with its own character and charm. Close to Powell Street Station and the hustle and bustle of San Francisco Bay. Bartlett brewed beers are well worth a pint or two, strong and reasonably priced. My favourite was the winter beer. They do cocktails too and real American snacks and light meals. Good for the tourist traveller wanting a proper American bar that is not too expensive. Live sport TV’s and very friendly and attentive service at the bar seating. We will definitely return on our next visit to the bay.

RLI Inauguration Celebration

By William B |

Bartlett Hall was a great match for our 50 +/- people who attended our presidential installation. The layout was perfect for our needs with a large area off from years bar scene. Appetizers included an assortment of sliders, calamari, Margarita pizza, and cookies. The service was great, would recommend to others.

Great Micro Brewery

By Mike M |

No matter what you taste, Dark Beer or Light beer they make it all, Great food great atmosphere. Staff was very friendly.

Breakfast

By Christoph R |

they do serve breakfast and have deals with several hotels in the neighborhood. a very generous regular breakfast is around 8$ and worth every penny!

Good food and pleasant pub atmosphere

By I7990PRdonnat |

Good food and pleasant pub atmosphere but not so noisy that one could not have a conversation at the table. Our waitress was lovely, when she got to us, but we felt that she was a spread a bit thin.

Good food, poor service

By Intrepidkart81 |

Visited here on the 22nd of July 2023 after searching for some ‘gastro pub’ type food in or around union square. Upon entering the venue, we were met by shorter guy who showed us to our table and proceeded to tell us that the menus were on our phones (I just about made that out as my partner didn’t). When trying to view the menu, we had to enter a mobile phone number, but it had to be an American number and we were from the UK. We stopped one of the waitresses and she was very helpful and said just to enter a random number as they have this all the time with guests from outside the US and I also asked if I could order online and still pay in cash and she advised that we could no problem. We ordered our food and both myself and my partner were pretty pleased with our choices, I had the Bartlett Burger and my partner had the meat pizza. We continued to have a few drinks and then asked for the bill. I asked the shorter waiter if I could pay in cash and he proceeded to get my bill for me. On giving me my bill, he decided to stand by the table as I looked out the money and when I handed him the money, he asked me if I wanted change and I said yes (hoping that he would bring the change back and then I would decided how much of a tip to give) and he then proceeded to ask how much change I wanted in a rude manor (obviously he was expecting the remaining money as a tip). Once I had told him how much change I required, he proceeded to serve other tables with drinks and then decided to disappear into the kitchen area. Whilst in the kitchen area, he proceeded to make fun out of the value of the tip we had given (my partner could see him from our table) and then he re emerged from the kitchen without any change (so he was obviously expected all of the remaining money as change) and then proceeded to walk towards the till at the bar to get out change. He handed me my change that I had asked for and didn’t even produce a smile and just simply grunted. Upon leaving the venue, my partner decided to speak to the bar tender (he was very pleasant) and said that she had felt very uncomfortable with the waiters actions and the bar tender said he would let the manager know. What a real shame as I really enjoyed my few pints of beer that I had and we both really enjoyed our food and would have been back, but the actions of the above employee really spoiled our visit.

Good Happy Hour Food and drinks

By Yorkie_Traveller |

Came in here a few times over the course of our stay in San Fran. First couple of times we just sat at the bar, happy hour drinks were excellent value and the happy hour food was good too. The first time was a weekend and it was busy with everyone watching sports, but mid-week was much quieter. Also had some food with friends (not at the bar) which was good too.

Cool atmosphere, good food, poor service

By Steelangel |

We found this place right around the corner from our hotel. It’s a very cool microbrewery atmosphere, but I have to echo previous complaints about service. Part of our order never materialized and the rest of the food took a long time. I liked how you are able to sample their beers.

Quick lunch

By T G |

We were going for a big dinner, so We wanted to catch a quick lunch to hold us over. I shared a hamburger and fries. It was good meat, but nothing special. I would give it a 3 1/2:stars, but since our server was great, I gave it a little higher. They don't have a huge selection, but the pubstyle restaurant was kind of fun. We sat at the high table tops in the front.

OK, “mais sans plus”

By Eleni K |

This restaurant is very well located near the Union Square, and one could have a meal or a beer after work, shopping or sightseeing. The decoration is american style all day restaurant, and the food alike. Quality is ok, but nothing special, where as the service is bad: not very friendly, and they mix up things.

Rude staff,dreadful service and overpriced.

By Traveller O |

I happened to be in SAN Francisco with work colleagues and found ourselves in Bartlett Hall. The bar seemed ok at first. We were directed to a table at the side of the bar and were given menus and water. After about 10 minutes I decided to just go and get my own drink from the bar as I was only having one drink. When I returned the waitress have finally turned up. One lady asked about house wine and was snapped at by the waitress and told to look at the wine list which we didn’t have! The waitress went and got one and continued. Halfway through taking drink orders one of the party asked if it was ok to have separate bills as nobody had cash. At this point the waitress stormed off out of the bar without saying anything and did not return for 10 minutes at least without any explanation! Everyone was confused so went to the bar. We then sat on sofas by the fire with our drinks only to be told we couldn’t sit there as we had got drinks from the bar. We explained we had tried that but the waitress stormed off and was now back but ignoring our group. It became a unpleasant experience and although I appreciate separate bill may involve a little more work surely this is part of working as a waitress in a bar????? Cut to the chase I will never set foot in this bar again as no apology was offered by anyone. Dreadful service and no customer service.

Ok food, very poor service

By BTEFan |

Visited with family on a busy Saturday. Food was okay (nothing special), service was really bad. Sat for 15 min or so before a server came to take drink orders. Food came out in basically random order, first one of our party’s entree, then appetizers, then the rest of the entrees more or less at random. Completely unapologetic, server said “we’re busy”. There are better places close by.

Best french fries in San Francisco

By Salvador S |

Everything is really delicious, I believe they have the best hamburgers in the city. I had a really good steak and buffalo wings. But the true star are the french fries. Best fries I've ever tasted. Really nice place with classy pub ambiance and friendly staff, they could be a bit faster, but that's ok.

This spot!

By Duchess of Weird |

Went for dinner and beers and then for breakfast the next morning. Being a guest at the Bunkhouse Hotel gets you 10% dinner and drinks and 20% breakfast. The food was fantastic and they were able to swiftly and with ease correct an issue with breakfast; they forgot the eggs in the dish. Fantastic staff.

Exceptional

By John H |

Wonderful time with friends and family. Strong beer selection and good food choices. Pizza was great for the kids! Would definitely go back.

Awesome

By pswise |

in SF for a couple weeks...stay near Union Square, and DEFINITELY visit Bartlett Hall...the staff are spot on with everything, the food (truffle fries, burgers, fish) is perfectly done and so quick to the table...generous drinks, can't say enough positive about this place...check in with Harry, a really cool guy that will absolutely take care of you...a gem in a city of not gems!

A weary travellers paradise

By dcurtise |

First stop on first trip to San Francisco and the beers hit the spot with excellent, fast service. Nice feeling about the place, very comfortable, lots of smiling customers and staff which is a good sign. Although we didn't eat the menu was very tempting.

Good brew and good tv-setup

By aaa293 |

During the soccer world cup it was a very nice place to watch the games including the baseball games at other times Brews are very good although the are a bit too high in alc% for my taste

Poor customer service

By John S |

Stopped in to watch a game with friends. Wasn’t busy, but the staff refused to change to channel to a game we asked to watch. They said others might be to watch baseball later. So we moved on. Seemed strange behavior for an empty sports bar with 5 TVs.

If it wasn't for tourists they would be out of business.

By Michael E |

Mediocre service, overpriced and watered down drinks, obnoxious, even rude and inconsiderate staff. Locals know to go elsewhere - it is the tourists that keep this place in business.

Very Good Food - Good Service

By Neil F |

Went to this restaurant with my son. Arrived about 7:00pm. Had to wait for a short time for a table for two, but we could either wait at the bar, or in a side-room. We waited in the side-room, which was very comfortable. We didn't have to wait long before being shown to a table at the back of the main room. It was very busy. Our drinks orders were quickly delivered to our table, and our food orders didn't take long, either. The food was very good, and well presented. The furniture was comfortable. The service was good, maybe a little less so than some other places, but still good. The food was quite reasonably priced, so, all in all, quite good value.

Cool beers

By Nial M |

Perfect place to stop for a few beers after a day exploring the city and to try some authentic American beers. Happy hour prices really good. And the staff were so friendly and great to chat with.

Not bad

By Deemcbee |

This place was rated well but I’d say it was just okay. I called ahead to see about dress code and if it was an appropriate place to take our teenager for dinner with us, they said no code and appropriate. It was laid back and appropriate, but I’d rethink taking a teenager along for dinner. It was very loud, and there were already folks who were intoxicated although it was still quite early, but it is a pub style restaurant so I can understand that. Wings were delicious but Caesar salad was way overpriced for quality, not worth the price. Our particular server was very good. I’d say union square is a bit difficult to find a family restaurant (other than a diner or fast food) that has more upscale food yet no dress code. Hard to find an “in-between”.

Good beer.

By hotwort |

Good beer! The food seemed a little pricey, but the beer selection was good, not cheap, but not $10 either.

Late night fun!

By MrsMiller11 |

My husband and I stopped in here because we heard the music from up the street. The guy playing was so good...wish I could remember his name. In any case, the ice cold beers on tap and the music kept us here for a few hours. Would definitely return.

Worst Server Ever! Needs to be FIRED!!!

By clsummers |

A friend and I are visiting the city and just had dinner there about an hour ago. The server was rude, disrespectful and condenseding! I asked if the buns on the burger were toasted or not and he was just downright rude. He started talking about he never heard of a restaurant that didn't have buns! First off, that wasn't the question I asked. Secondly, the tone and disrespect were grossly uncalled for! At the end of the meal, he asked about paying my bill, which I had already done to avoid dealing with him. When I expressed my concerns about how he spoke to me earlier, he apologized in a flippant manner and began being rude again. I wish I had gotten his name because he deserves to be fired! He lack customer service skills and has an I don't care mentally. Save yourself the headache and don't ever go to this restaurant with rude and disrespectful servants who don't care about the job, the customers or the business!

Good food just off the crowded Union Square

By LAtraveler2CA |

This is a cute little Gastro pub with a nice atmosphere. I sat at the bar and ordered a delicious kale salad for lunch. It filled me up and was fresh and delicious. Nice little spot to get away from the throngs of people around Union Square

Dinner and Drinks

Brewery, beer hall and an excellent, cheap breakfast

By FormerCaliBoy |

Bartlett Hall offers early morning breakfast, lunch, late night food and a nice selection of craft beers. I came in for an early morning breakfast on two mornings. My hostel offered a discount voucher for Bartlett Hall which included a selection from four breakfast dishes including coffee or juice for $7! On both visits, I ordered the Classic (two eggs, bacon or sausage, and home fries). A self-service water station was available at the bar. The breakfast special was a great deal and a nice hearty option to start the day. They offer free Wi-Fi, clean restrooms and you could even peak into their brewing room. The staff was efficient on my visits.

OK beer but pricey food

By Nathaniel Street |

Had a beer flight and the beers were OK but not great compared to other microbreweries in the city. Had a pretzel starter and was disappointed. It was small, expensive and over-salted.

Fun casual

By Global659383 |

This is a casual restaurant with a cool vibe. The menu was not a huge selection but the food was good. It’s a microbrewery so of course their beer is great. It was crowded and loud when we where there. Overall a good place for a casual bite and socializing.

Solid hostel option for a short stay in the city

By Ben T |

Basic but everything that’s needed, solid option for a short stay in the city. Room was decent, no fridge or iron but it’s a hostel so that’s part of the package. The attached bar is actually really good and food was reasonably priced and tasty.

Gastric Pub Food

By travelernottourist |

We had a table for 7 which enjoyed beers and dinner. Apps were chicken wings and buffalo seasoned cauliflower, which was surprisingly good. My burger was delicious and cooked to perfection. Fries hit the spot. Salads were a hit too. In general we were all happy with the food and drink and good company. Table was a high top with stools so for some this might be an issue.

A very pleasant surprise! Great seafood pasta!

By SLOJon |

We went here expecting to enjoy some beer and burgers in a casual atmosphere. We got more than we were expecting — it was a very pleasant surprise. Upon entering, it seemed quite noisy, but that soon got converted into high energy, in a good way. We enjoyed the atmosphere. My wife ordered wine and I ordered one of their specialty cocktails — the Big Alma. It was excellent. For our meals we had the Frutti di Mare Pasta and the Grilled Chicken Sandwich. The sandwich was excellent but the seafood pasta was outstanding — shrimp, mussels, salmon on a bed of perfect pasta in a light sauce. It was delicious. I’d go back just for it. We finished with a very good New York Cheesecake and coffee. Our service was excellent from start to finish. We will readily return.

Fab!

Happy hour was great! Brilliant prices for the food and wine. Just perfect after a long day sightseeing x

perfect menu, something for everyone

By Diana B |

Our family of four struggles often to find a menu to suit everyone's needs and Bartlett Hall was perfect for us. Something for everyone, close to our hotel, on Open Table so we didn't have to wait in line. Would eat there again.

Good for breakfast

By opticook |

Many of the table were high with stools. There are only a few regular height tables and a few booths. Lighting inside is on the dark side. Breakfast was very good.

Good food, great atmosphere

By Samwalkerpi |

We eat here twice the portobello sandwich with fries is gorgeous. The drinks are quite expensive but it is central San Francisco. This place is dark and very noisy so not the place if you want a quiet drink or a romantic meal. The service is fast, and although the Place is nearly always full, the staff seem to always find you a table.

Great beer selection

By swedensm |

If it's a decent selection of interesting beer you are looking for then this is your place. It feels like a sports bar, TVs everywhere. The service was OK, but only OK. Not far from Union Square.

Trying to be an english pub

By silviaabarca |

My husband and I went for dinner after a sightseeing day. It looked nice for having some drink, dinner and rest. I ordered a fish and chips and he did for a hamburguer after waiting for soo long to be attended (about 20 min). When the food finally came to our table after a long while (about 40 min), the fish and chips was cold and the appearance of the plates were not very appetizing.

Great beers

By henalv |

During a city walking tour we found this place by chance. During rhe thursday afternoon the bar was calmly with soft rock/soul musik. The beers we drank were great espesially their own IPAs .

Very Nice

By frogwelder1 |

My family and I ate here first day in San Francisco we enjoyed staff is friendly and helpful. Some Gluten Free food just make sure when you order

Best in the area

By Denise A |

We were in the area shopping and this was a warm cozy spot to pop into for a bite and a drink. The cauliflower was fantastic and the drinks were great- wouldn’t have the calamari again but my husband liked it. A bit disorganized in the service department but friendly enough

First meal in San Francisco

By theoraclesboy |

Just arrived from the UK, found this lovely restaurant close to our hotel and settled down to a very nice meal and a beer. Good food, clean establishment, waiter a bit slow but got involved eventually.

Californian Road Trip: Day 13

By Claire K |

What a beautiful restaurant-lovely high ceilings, a long bar, a great menu & friendly patient waitresses that didn’t mind waiting when I couldn’t make up my mind. I had buffalo cauliflower & I swear it was the whole vegetable-tasted fabulous & plenty of it!

Nearly there but could do better

By Neil M |

I would recommend it if in the area for drinks and food. The food is good but some overpriced for what they are. Ok selection of beers. Surround is nice with Tv's and sports. Main comment is serving staff need to cheer up and smile more as it didn't feel exactly welcoming.

Impossible Burger!

By TravelLeigh10 |

Nice spot for lunch / dinner. The Impossible Burger is just that...eats like a beef burger but it's all plant-based. It's a bit on the expensive side ($21, including fries) but it is San Francisco after all. Full bar and beer on tap.

Great place!

By Scubbs |

This is an exceptional place to relax and unwind with a drink after a long day of touring the city. The staff is so nice and treat you like Kings and Queens.

Very poor value for money

By Ron G |

We stopped in here on our arrival to San Francisco. We ordered 2 beers and fish and chips. The beers were $9.00 each for less than 1/2 pint. The fish was obviously frozen, and was a very small portion. The fries were okay but again a very small portion. The service was okay, but the bill was close to $60 without the gratuity. All in all very pricey for less than average food. By comparison 2 32oz beers at the White Lion pub attached to the Beresford Hotel cost $10 for both.

Great Happy Hour

By Neil H |

Visited here on our first day in San Francisco, it was during the happy hour 3-6pm. Great prices for beer and wine , the beer is all their own brews and very good. A few food items on the happy hour which were also good. Once your server realised you were there they were very attentive. We visited for drinks after sightseeing every day during our trip.

Good place for a fair price

By Malin S |

We chose this hotel because of the fair price and so we didn't have high expectations. Once you get there, don't be fooled by the quite simple looking front desk and hallways. Our room was nice, clean and cozy. The location is great, just by Union Sqaure. There is also a "starting point" for two of the cable car lines, Chinatown, a Macy's (and several other stores), a Chipotle and a Starbucks really close by. We actually walked from the hotel to Pacific Heights, City Hall, Painted Ladies, Chinatown and back to the hotel all in half a day. Bartlett also has a restaurant next door which offers nice food, including breakfast.

Good Beer and Food

By Jordan H |

Came here because the hotel we stayed in owned this restaurant and was recommended. They brew beer in house and had the flight to try all of them and all off them were pretty good! Had a pizza and meatballs and both were really good! Nice restaurant and good atmosphere and had a great service from our server! Would definitely come back here to try more of the food!!!

Easy to get into lunch spot

By CaliforniaDJ |

Great place to grab casual food - came here at lunch had the burger and fries. Huge portions and could have easily share with my colleague. The burger was juicy and delicious - huge fries were perfect. Looks like it would be a great spot to also come later in the evening for drinks and food - very casual - not too expensive

Do not go there

By Norma L |

This restaurant was recommended for breakfast by our hotel. We are a party of 7. When we got there we had to find our own table. There was a whole section closed off. We could not find a big enough table so we asked one of the servers who said she will find one. While she did, we waited at a bar area. Another server came to us and was very rude. Yelling at us and telling us to move from that area because he needed that area to work. He could not tell us where to wait and the other server kept going around tables and never came back or found a table for us. We left and never came back to this restaurant. Go to Honey, Honey Restaurant instead.

Great food & service

By Spanna66 |

Conveniently located, this place has plenty of seating both at a large bar, as well as many tables. We sat at the bar and the staff were friendly and helpful. Food was delicious and they have generous serves. I recommend the burger.

Great sweet potato fries

By Jo T |

Called in for a glass of wine and it was so nice. Ended up having 3 and sharing a portion of sweet potato fries. Which were exceptional. So crisp. Loved it

Annual Visit

By sam101645 |

Five of us guys annually make a trip to the City as a Holiday tradition. We start at Bartlett Hall where the drinks and happy hour appetizers are always good. They also let us play liar's dice while enjoying the place. Convenient to Union Square and always fun. It starts to get busy and energized around 5pm. Would visit more often if I lived in San Francisco.

Cozy and comfortable place for dinner with friends

By Cathy S |

Came for dinner on March 16th. Part of 4, had Steaks, Salmon and Pizza. Everyone was happy with their meals. Server was attentive and friendly. Would come here again.

Group meeting after the meeting

By McKimi |

Our group of six couples gathered here the first evening of our business trip to San Francisco. We called ahead for reservations, hopeful to catch a view if a big screen during NBA playoffs. This worked well, with space still conducive to table conversation. Their craft beers were similar to those we’re enjoying back home in MN. Menu pretty typical for city sports bar. Loved the buffalo cauliflower off the appetizer list.

Love This Place!

By Susie F |

This was a little bit of an unexpected gem! Truly great food and cocktails, I mean super yummy and the drinks were perfect! The staff is friendly and hip and make you feel so at home and well cared for. If you are staying next door at the Handlery Hotel this is a must for a late night cocktail after dinner.

Great beer selection, large portions

By CindyLu's Nana |

Dropped in for a quick meal before bed. The sandwiches are large, my friend and I could have split one and been happy.

Sports bar, lots of beers, good cocktails -- noisy

By shewolfe |

Stopped into Bartlett Hall on a Saturday for dinner with my kids before the theater. There are TV screens all around the place for watching sports. They make their own beer and you can sample lots of different styles of beer. The cocktail and wine list are extensive. The dinner menu is not huge and is full of classics. The Cesar salad was terrific and the Mac and Cheese if HUGE but good. The fish and chips was just okay and needed a good dousing with salt. All in all, I'd say stick to the pub food, have some drinks and go with a crowd. It's not really a family restaurant but its convenient and had decent service.

Good brews

By Ronn B |

Stopped in after long day of walking in SF. Really good selection of in house brewed beers. Had a very good burger to go with an IPA and was not disappointed. Bartenders attentive and on it! Will be back on next trip.

Good for drinks but bypass for breakfast

By shaynescott |

Called in Monday nights for drinks after dinner, sports bar environment with multiple screens. Good selection of beer and whiskey, friendly atmosphere and good bar staff. Because of this thought we would try for breakfast Tuesday morning. It was a mistake. Wife has pancakes & I has toast. The toast was cold and pancakes were OK. Wife requested a pot of tea and after being served green tea we requested black tea only to be told they had run out, no offer to take the tea back and it was not even hot. Service was just OK and when paying I gave $105 expected change of $80 once I covered the suggested tip, they took the more than the suggested tip without asking. Won't return even for a drink now

Nice bar

By Daniel J H |

Nice bar in San Francisco, has a cozy atmosphere, nice staff and a good drink selection. I didn't eat a meal here but I did order the fries and they were really good.

Nice food anonymous service

By M D |

First of all the food is really good and credit to the kitchen. BUT You must get your phone to find the QR code. SOULLESS. Then you try and order if your phone connected. Such a shame a good kitchen is let down by front of house. The steak arrived with a steak knife but no napkin or cutlery. Finally a member of staff brought them. So it's simple decent food and this kitchen deserves credit but a sadly lacking front of house. You wait for a table. The bar staff won't serve drinks while you wait despite their colleagues stating they do. Shame.. the chef deserves better but if you work by QR code don't get too disappointed by the inevitable anonymity of it all. This place could be so much better in terms of service.

Great start to our holiday!

By johnnoall39 |

Our first time in San Francisco and we consulted this very app to see where was good to eat. After a long day we decided we didn’t want to travel far and ventured just across the road to Bartlett Hall. For a Monday it was full and the atmosphere was great. After a scan on the menu which all sounded fantastic we both decided the burger was for us. It was delightful! Perfectly cooked and a great sized portion. Unaccustomed to American service we weren’t sure what to expect but it was brilliant, everything came in a speedy fashion with making us feel rushed! Only here for 3 days but would happily go again!

Ok overall, but not a great dining experience

By qpofg |

Food is reasonable but quite expensive, avoid on busy nights such as Friday as the noiss from other patrons will make it hard to have a conversation.

Average food and atmosphere

By Martinianyone |

Cute place, service was okay, friendly but not very attentive. Restaurant had a cold draft coming from somewhere possibly the kitchen. The burger and the steak were average, sweet potato fries were a disappointment (they were soft, not fried enough I guess), the regular fries were good. Home brew beers was good.

Worst. Service. Ever.

By Chris B |

I come to SF for work a couple times a month. I’ve been looking for a regular place, so I have Bartlett Hall a try (for brunch). The waitress was incredibly rude. I ordered OJ, which came in a tiny glass...no water was offered. My food arrived quickly, but I wasn’t given silverware (my waitress was no where to be found), but a passing employee had pity had got me silverware. I ran out of orange juice, but no water offered. The food was good, as soon as I finished the waitress slapped my ticket down without a word. I was parched, saw a pitcher of OJ on the bar, so I poured a swallow...then the waitress scolds me because there aren’t free OJ refills. 🙄 the place seemed cool and the food was good, but the service was awful.

Poor service

By Deborah R |

The food is good, came quickly, but the server is extremely rude. They throw the plates in the table and seem to want go home. They told the kitchen was going to stop in 10 minutes although the place closes at 01:30 am and it was only 22h.

Great atmosphere and good food

By EmmaC2402 |

Loved the music and excellent food here. Has a really nice feel and would definitly recommend. Think we will go back while we are here in SF. Loved the burger and the club sandwich. Fab. Wish there were more cocktails on the menu though

Great atmosphere

By Peter W |

Great beer selection and a welcoming atmosphere make this place a winner. It is also an easy 2 minute walk from the Hilton.

Excellent value for money - a hidden gem!

By mardimichels |

I spent ages looking for reasonably priced accommodation in San Francisco and had a provisional booking at another hotel *in case* I couldn't find anything else. I had my eye on the Bartlett for a few weeks but prices were not better than the place I had already booked but finally a couple of weeks before my trip I came across a deal for $130USD per night (all in) for a queen room with a private bathroom. When I arrived I was blown away at how great everything was - I honestly was not expecting the place to be as good, for the price. What I loved: 1. location - close to everything, walkable but also lots of transit options 2. neighbourhood felt relatively safe (compared to other parts of SF) 3. my room was super clean 4. my room (712) was super quiet. I never heard any other guests/ Tvs etc... Slept so well! 5. bed was very comfortable 6. fridge in room (I was there for some cooking demos so I needed a fridge for my ingredients - so handy) 7. windows that actually opened. 8. room was very spacious 9. unlike other reviews, I found coathangers in the closet space 10. knowing there were no hairdryers in the rooms, I emailed ahead to request one. As soon as I arrived and checked in, they brought me one to keep for my stay. 11. bathroom was clean and products (in large containers on the wall - I appreciate the low-waste choice here as opposed to tiny packages every day) were good. Water pressure was a little low but on Floor 7 of an old building, it's to be expected. 12. LOTS of power outlets to charge devices etc... 13. there is a ceiling fan in the room which I expect in the summer is very useful. 14. wifi is free and was fast. 15. I didn't eat there but there is a pub in the building which is a nice place for breakfast or a drink (quieter in the mornings or afternoons) 16. I didn't use it but there was a small kitchen on Floor 2 that looked to be a nice place to prepare/eat some meals (for the dorm rooms) 17. there are (pay per use) washing machines and dryers on Floor 2

Busy place, especially during football game

By AKiwiandACanuck |

We went on a night when Ohio State were playing a game…..and got lucky to get a table for four. Service was as expected, functional and friendly. Quality of food was good. We complained that the amount of vinegar on the fish n chips…and got a very poor apology… Overall….the experience was OK, nothing more.

Nice bar setting with a cozy fireplace

By LindaAZ2 |

My husband and I both loved some of our food choices more than others. We ordered burgers and the fish tacos and they were both very tasty. The po' boy sandwich and the margarita pizza were just okay. Dinner was very crowded but we didn't have to wait.

American style bar

By 01649409 |

Nice typical american style bar with tv screens broadcasting sport events. It is also a brewery where you can taste their own beer and eat the classical burgers. We stayed here twice during our visit in SF and were not disappointed

Shocking service

By KDP |

Myself and a few friends went to Bartlett Hall on a recommendation and had high hopes for a lovely evening of drinks and a catch up. From the off the staff seemed put out that we had a group of 9 of us and complained that we sat down before they gave us glasses for water. We decided which drinks we wanted and another girl came to take our order. We asked if it was possible to have separate bills before we ordered. The girl threw her hands in the air and literally walked out of the bar! No explanation, just left and went out into the street. We were stunned and didn’t know what to make of it. I along with a few others decided to leave then and take our money elsewhere, and I can say with certainty I will not be going there again.

Good for hangout!

By kikokicks |

As I was a guest of Herbert Hotel, the front staff recommended me this place because the restaurant offers 10% discount. Restaurant has its own beer brewery! Try their pale ale. Also try their signature drink Yerba Burma. One of the bartenders, Michael, is friendly, and will try to make you off-the-menu cocktails. He makes a good gin and tonic (gin made from Alameda)! Their chicken wings (Jamaican Jerk style) are sumptuous and tasted like Filipino adobo!

Good for a drink

By towosi |

Nice and cozy bar, good selection of beers, even bavarian style wheet beer. Nice music too, relative fair prices

Great Atmosphere

By buffie46 |

Ate here 1st two nights in San Francisco, we weren’t that hungry so had the Chicken Wings (spicy) & fried Sweet Potato Chips, both tasty, husband had the Porto beer & I had a glass of Langetwins Zinfandel, a very smooth, full bodied red. We repeated this food a drinks on the 2nd night...why change when you’re on a winner?

Nothing special but nothing bad

By Mark D |

Fairly typical modern style craft beer pub type bar. Beer is fine but expensive, not pints, food range is the usually pub menu. Ate here on Xmas eve, served pretty quick, hot standard fare.

early dinner was absolutely wonderful

By darrell w |

"Cool" place. Very relaxed during happy hour with food and drink specials. Having flown in from two time zones East, we wanted a pick me up early dinner. Although the neighborhood could use some clean up, we felt safe as we left Union Square in search for a casual place to recover from the flight. Could not have been happier.

Nothing special

By Valentina L |

We went there for breakfast and really didn't love the coffee or the pancakes. No gluten free options, so wouldn't go back. But maybe for dinner it's great, I don't know :)

Lunch

By John_Allwright |

Wow we had lunch there the staff are very friendly, there is a good selection of ales and great food highly recommended.

The bar staff was absolutely disgusting to us.

By rpage94 |

Me and my colleagues who spend around 12 nights in a month in San Francisco usually come to this bar For dinner. Last night the service was beyond poor so we decided to only pay gratuity on our dinner and not our drinks. Now the bill was $80 for food and $120 for drinks. We paid $12 (which was a suggested gratuity for food and the bar man is lucky he even got that.) Next thing he turns to us and says ‘$12 tip seriously?’ We responded saying we didn’t feel his service was adequate and therefore didn’t deserve the tips. He then proceeded to say to us ‘next time your food might taste a little funny’ i told him how dare he threaten us and he proceeded to say f**k off Back to London whilst patronisingly blowing us kisses and waving good bye. Absolutely horrendous. I’m more than happy to pay a tip but let’s not forget that tips are extra and are earnt. Don’t just expect them because your on a low paid job.

Breakfast

By Christoph R |

so far so good... breakfast is fine but somehow much more expensive compared to my last stay. not cheap anymore for 16$

Forgettable

By sfimporter |

We came for Sunday brunch before heading to the Metreon to catch a film. The food was tasty, but service was lacking. I had ordered coffee and what was delivered was half a cup. For a refill, we had to grab a random waiter because ours was MIA.

Pub feeling

By Matt S |

I had a good dinner here. Bartlett Hall, despite the exterior, has very much a pub feeling inside. Being in the peak of dinner time during the summer, it was packed when I walked in, but was able to get a seat along a wall counter. This counter was wide enough to hold a dinner plate and drink, which was good enough for me...I was additionally able to work on a laptop while here. There was a decent beer selection, with a couple of their own on tap. I'm not sure if they brewed on site or not, but their "own" options were decent. I ordered a seafood pasta dish; the plate was large and hearty, and generally tasted good, although a couple of the fish options were a bit overly "fishy" tasting for my liking. Overall, not a bad place for a bite to eat and a beer; it does get busy, and loud, but it's not a bad place to go.

Best Burger in Town!

By Kate N |

Loved this restaurant! Very cool atmosphere! Loved the cocktails, but the main show is their burger! I was full but could not stop eating it! Job well done!

Gastropub Lunch

By KindHeartedPorcupine |

With no prior reservation, a group of 7 of us were seated quickly for an early afternoon lunch on a recent Monday. Fast, attentive service, very good food, decent bottle of house branded Syrah. Kale salad was delicious, others ordered fish and chips, fried shrimp, hamburger, sweet potato fries, all very pleased with choice of restaurant and food served.
