I wish it was a better experience.

By Vaylene R |

For others it might have been a better experience. We were there with a large group. It was a business dinner and there were 23 of us. We had a reservation on the main floor that wasn't met. Our server was good but they had her maintaining too many tables. It was suppose to be drinks and appetizer's and we settled on drinks. We were then taken upstairs and we had a corner reserved and they didn't follow through with that. We were crammed at 2 tables. The food and service were slow. We left before the desserts were being served and ended up grabbing a bite to eat elsewhere. They were helpful in the bill department and discounted some for the experience.

I had the chance to try this wonderful restaurant ! Mr. Avelar, the manager, and all his team members knows how to make you feel welcome and to make sure you have an incredible experience at Bazaar Meat. My server Maya was a great guide to help me navigate trough the menu, her recommendations was also on point. The food his obviously exceptional (the foie gras and corn soup is a must try) Every team members offered a flawless performance.

Absolute pleasure!

All staff were exceptional! What an amazing level of food, service, presentation—so impressive on any scale, but especially notable in a restaurant of this size. Attention to detail was impeccable. And the food? Lived up to my very high expectations! Fantastic!

Awesome night at Bazaar Meats!

Outstanding service, amazing atmosphere and superb food! I really appreciate the detail and dedication that goes into the production and delivery of the food and drinks!

Didn't even get to eat

By Josh Y |

Extremely frustrating experience. Made a reservation to celebrate my wife's 30th birthday. We waited 45 minutes past our reservation time and eventually had to cancel and go somewhere else so we could still make the show we had planned for later. Don't trust this place with any kind of special occasion.

Beautiful Setting and Ambience, Great Service and Delicious Spanish Tapas

By Dr Wendell W |

What an incredible dining experience! Your entire staff was friendly, enthusiastic and helpful. Our main server was Jessica who was superb. She gave us the lay of the land, and how to best enjoy our Tapas style dinner. She also cut and served many of the shareable dishes. The cocktail was small and okay, but the wine selection was vast ~ we enjoyed the Spanish Pegasus Zeta and the Granbazan which really complemented the dishes. On to the delicious food … the Bison carpaccio was a great start. We enjoyed the Chicken croquetas with bechamel, as well as the grilled gem lettuce. The Washugu strip was good, but the star was the Quarter Suckling Pig which was incredibly juicy with light crispy skin. They gave us complimentary Gazpacho which was so refreshing as well as tow desserts. The restaurant is relaxing, and gorgeous with beautiful lighting and glass artwork throughout. This was an incredible experience. We also so admire and support the dedicated hard work of Jose Andres and his World Food Kitchen.

Not What I Expected

By miamiair |

I had heard a lot about this place, so gave it a try. The restaurant itself is on the second floor, so you go through another establishment to get to the elevators. Extensive wine list. We tried some appetizers, but they mere pricey for being less than bite size. The service was excellent. We ordered ribeyes to share, great taste and tender, but not warm. The deserts were excellent, it was an assortment of little pies. The manager came by and was very effective at ensuring customer satisfaction.

nothing bizarre, just fun at the bazaar, jose does it again..

fun nite, great looking place, lively, business casual is good. Menu is part basic and part gastronomy. Fun drinks, great menu. Small tasting menu, regular tasting menu, and regular menu to choose from. Good combo of items. Service decent. we did large tasting menu, only issue is some of the items came quickly and a few out of order on the menu. Some items simply outstanding, some good and none terrible.

Fantastic!

Outstanding Restaurant Week Experience!

By Isabel1958 |

Incredible experience from the top notch service to the excellent, creative food. Restaurant week is a great opportunity to experience this wonderful restaurant from renowned chef & philanthropist Jose Andres. The coffee rub hanger steak was absolutely delicious & very tender. Appetizers & sides were also great & the buttered potato purée was to die for-worth the splurge!

Anniversary dinner

By Culture Vulture 60657 |

We let the restaurant know we were celebrating our anniversary. Every single person. wished us "Happy Anniversary", from the hosts who greeted us, to the waiter, to the busser. Multiple times, even. It was our first visit to Bazaar Meats, tho we had been to Bar Mar downstairs. Upstairs is quieter, darker despite big windows with river views, and smaller. It' a comfortable space. I ordered a rum cocktail to start; it was a well balanced drink, just delicious and potent. To eat, we ordered patatas bravas, the grilled Gem lettuce salad, shrimp w/ garlic sauce, octopus and tournedos Rossini. The shrimp came first, accompanied by 4 triangles of crisp pan de cristal, followed by the salad, then the octopus and the tournedos together. The tournedos was room temperature and came sliced into 4 pieces to share with unctuous foie gras atop and in a pool of excellent silky Perigord sauce. The tournedos and the salad were the 2 stand-outs. Just delicious. We never got the potatoes, so when they had not arrived by the time we finished the meat dish, we cancelled the order. The meat was a plentiful portion ($90), the other dishes were rather skimpy. The kitchen is enamored of molecular gastronomy: there was a globe of parmesan espuma atop the salad which was both pretty and tasty. The hard round globe of coconut "floating island" you had to crack open with a spoon; that didn't work so well and did not have much coconut flavor but the pineapple beneath it did, while the rum sauce was a bit overpowering and icy cold. They brought an extra vanilla bean ice cream dessert with "Happy Anniversary" spelled out in foam which they torched tableside before it became visible. Cute touch. Service was good, friendly and competent. It's also a leisurely affair. The waiter asked us to order our entire meal at the beginning because the steaks take up to an hour to prepare. Food comes from different kitchens, so may not arrive in the order you'd expect; we got the shrimp before the salad and the octopus came at the same time as the tournedos. It's an expensive outing. Dinner for 2 with only one cocktail and no wine, came to a little over $200 with tax but before tip.

Over rated

The food tasted delicious. But a $200 ribeye was half fat. That was disgusting. Potatoes straws were so hard they were inedible . Then we were all just starting our dessert when the waitress whispered to our host that they needed the table after waiting 1 hour for our food. Also our review was taken off TripAdvisor

Go. Now. Best meal and service.

By heatherjaye |

Go as soon as you can! A friend suggested and I went last night. More delicious than I could imagine. Brought my bestie back tonight and as amazing. Service is impeccable. Susie (hostess) couldn’t be friendlier and remembered ny name 2nd night. Edward, my server at the bar, had a hand written note waiting at my seat to thank me for coming back. Top notch in every way.

Steaks from Spain, Argentina and Brazil

By Taylor B |

Bazaar Meat is a special place. Proof that there always is room for another steakhouse in Chicago is Michelin-starred chef Jose Andres' industrial chic creation with an extensive menu of steaks from Spain, Argentina and Brazil. Andres was named as one of Time magazine's "100 most influential people" in 2012 and 2018. And he was named "outstanding chef" and "humanitarian of the year" by the James Beard Foundation. He also has locations in Las Vegas, Miami Beach, New York City, Los Angeles and Washington D.C. Andres' Chicago location is at 120 North Wacker Drive in the Loop. Talk about a busy neighborhood. Open from 4:30 to 11 Tuesday through Saturday, Bazaar Meat offers a South American and Basque-inspired touch to fine dining. I started with marinated olives, bagels and lox with dill cream cheese and salmon roe and a bowl of Maine lobster bisque with buttered lobster and chives. For my entree, I chose a classic tartare/beef sirloin with Savora mustard, egg yolk, hp sauce, anchovy and shiso tempura with roasted carrots and fried potatoes with spicy tomato sauce and aioli. For dessert, I couldn't resist a key lime tart with key lime cream, toasted meringue and graham cracker.

Simply Amazing

This was an amazing meal. I wanted to go to RPM Steak, but they don't accept single reservations, so I said screw it and went to José Andrés's Bazaar. Meat They don't mind taking a single diner's money. I was in the mood for steak, but as José is known for pork, I considered the secreto, which is one of my favorite cuts of pork. I have it shipped in from Spain to cook at home, and I was wondering how Bazaar prepares it. But I opted to go whole hog . . . well, 1/4 baby hog. I went with the suckling pig. The meal started with two gazpacho shots. I love gazpacho and make it often, and I've had a lot of gazpacho in Spain, but this was the best I've ever had. Next was the patas bravas. Subtle and smoking, they were outstanding. The star of the show was the suckling pig. They have a special oven just for the pig. It took 45 minutes to cook it, then they brought it out for my inspection before cutting it up. It was tender, flavorful, and sublime. It came with a bib lettuce salad that was very very good. This was a truly amazing meal, so thank you, RPM, for refusing my reservation.

Very good, but some issues

Went on a Thursday night with a 7:45 reservation. I had been to the Las Vegas location and really enjoyed it so wanted to try the Chicago location. Different vibe, LV is interior, darker, a higher level of class. This location was bright, a lot of windows, tables closer together, livelier vibe. Our server Eas great. We ordered cocktails and starters. This was the first issue. One of the starters came out immediately. But drinks didn’t come for maybe 5-10 minutes followed by starter number 2. We then ordered the octopus, stuffed piquillo pepper, pork secreto and one of the ribeyes. This was a little miscommunication. The first 3 items came all at once and we thought the steak would come as well. We also didn’t realize that the ribeye came with 2 additional sides. Maybe we missed that on the menu and maybe we should have been told. Had we known we would have ordered differently. Everything granted great. The secreto wasn’t as good as the LV version. In LV I remember there was roasted fruit whereas this had a chimmichurri. and the pork itself wasn’t as succulent. I thought the US wine options were a limited and at about a 2.5x markup. So overall it was very good. The pace of the food was a little off and we didn’t realize sides some with the steak.

Do NOT eat here under any circumstances

By Maria S |

We dined here in mid-November, and I’ve waited three months to write this review to see if I’d be less mad about the experience we had here. I am not. I’ve lived in Chicago for nearly four years. My fiancé grew up here. We have been fortunate enough to dine at some of the best restaurants in Chicago, and we both agreed this is one of the worst meals we’ve ever had in this city. Don’t get me wrong, the decor is beautiful. That’s how they suck you in. We certainly sat down with high expectations and, after reading stellar reviews, we were ready to be blown away. Disappointed is an extreme understatement. We dined here with another couple, and we walked out of this restaurant embarrassed that we had suggested this place for dinner. Not only is the food insanely overpriced, but the quality was seriously mediocre. The steak we ordered was tough and fatty. We ordered it medium well, and it came medium rare. The couple we were dining with didn’t even eat their steak. I knew they had to be hungry, because the previous four dishes we had ordered were so tiny, they only allowed for each person to have quarter-sized portions of food. The bill was four digits, and we all left hungry. On top of that, the service was mid-tier. Also, there is NO bathroom upstairs. You have to take the elevator down two floors to the basement of the building. If I’m dining at a world-class chef’s restaurant, I’d certainly expect for there to be a restroom that isn’t essentially a parking garage bathroom. I’m giving this place two stars solely for the fact that the tartare was amazing, and the chocolate banana soufflé dessert was out of this world. The saving grace of this whole experience is that we didn’t dine here with anyone from out of town. I would’ve hated for this to be someone’s first experience eating out in Chicago, as it’s certainly not reflective of all the incredible restaurants we have here. I’d choose McDonalds over this place. We will absolutely not be back, and we would never recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Bazaar Meat should be considered for a Michelin star.

Chef Jose Andres' restaurant deserves a Michelin star. The menu, ambiance and customer service are well deserving of recognition. We made an early dinner reservation so we were able to enjoy the nice decor and quiet environment all to ourselves for a little while before the crowd trickled in. I would suggest reserving a table by their floor to ceiling glass window with the view of the Chicago River. Very romantic. Our server was very helpful with the menu and his recommendations were amazing as well as some of the other appetizer and entree options. We enjoyed the not-so-typical- onion soup consisting of apple, brioche, foie gras presented "cappucino" style. We also were complemented with a very instagrammable Patatas Bravas. The foieffle was a "snack" to go back for - air waffle, foie espuma, peanut butter and honey. I loved my Spanish Octopus and my husband feasted on Wagyu beef. Other interesting selections on the menu included dragonfruit ceviche (with tuna), Japanese eel taco (bbq), and peruvian potato, sea urchin and huancaina espuma. For those that love foie gras, they give a very generous helping. For the liquor connoisseur, the cocktail and beverage menu is extensive. The staff were friendly, courteous, well trained, and professional, which of course makes all the difference. I will definitely go back and perhaps try the eel tacos or the sea urchin, or...the next time I visit Chicago. Que aproveche!

Excellent

Wonderful experience! We went here after becoming discouraged by the menu changes at Bar Mar, which has devolved from a Jose Andres mainstay to a glorified Gibson's. Bizarre Meats retains a number of the original Spanish dishes Andres presented at Bar Mar, plus an array of very expensive beef preparations. The appetizers are fabulous; fried cream croquettes are a must have. I had the grilled squid, which remains the best I've had in Chicago by far, and the pork. It's expensive but wonderfully prepared and sauced. The grilled chicken my friend had looked beautiful. Desserts are small offerings at a great price. The chocolate tart was exceptionally good. Wine list is excellent and reasonably priced (as these things go, at least). Service was extremely good. Will definitely go again.

Amazing meal!

One thing to know going in (and it is like this at the other Bazzar Meats as well), your meal is going to take a while. This is not a hurried experience. They take their time, don’t rush any courses and expect you to enjoy your evening. I see comments on here about how long or slow it was, this is partly intentional to relax and enjoy your meal. If you are in hurry, maybe this isn’t the place for you or at least let your server know. This was our first trip to the Chicago location and it was fantastic. There were some issues with the building heat (they are in a high rise) and they let us know when we go there and they made up for it with some free apps and desserts. They strive for very high customer service. We had a few apps, salad, wagyu steak, sides, cocktails (wow - they are amazing) and dessert. Everything was fantastic. We were there a little over 2 hours, again - enjoy the evening with amazing food, service and company.
