Currently on the last Friday of the month, The BeachChalet has Parrish De’Andrea singing Frank Sinatra, and he sings as if Frank hasn’t “left the building!” He looks like Frank n his younger days. Instead of singing New York Nee York, he sang I Left My Heart In San Francisco, and ran it parallel to Tony Bennet. The food is good, the beer is good, good bar. Service is good, and they are happy tonight.

On Thanksgiving day, as part of a group of 20, I had a great meal at the Beach Chalet: Lamb shanks and polenta. Our group had a printed menu that seemed to be made for us, so I don't know what options the rest of the diners had. We had a choice of fish, the lamb, a traditional turkey dinner and steak. Plus several appetizers. The lamb was outstanding; the turkey dinner so-so. The halibut was also very good. The appetizers were creative and delicious. But the pumpkin pie was SO salty, I had to give up after just one bite. The white chocolate cheese cake was a welcome and tasty alternative. The view cannot be beat on a sunny day, which is not always the case down by Ocean Beach. So, I recommend trying the place but maybe ask the staff what is good on the menu the night you eat there. The restaurant is on the second floor of a historic building that includes a visitor center for Golden Gate Park and 4 walls of WPA murals of scenes in old time San Francisco. Also on the first floor is another more casual restaurant with the city's only beer garden, the Park Chalet..

My brother and I went here on my last night in the Bay Area before returning home, and it was amazing! The beer brewed here is as good as any, and the food was phenomenal - the service too. I will definitely go back when I return.

Excellent service! Recently reopened - the staff was very motivated to make our experience great! Food was prepared well and delivered promptly. Great atmosphere and view. Our first time, I know the property has a rich history.

[THEY OVERCHARGE FOR TIPS: CHECK YOUR BILL BEFORE CONFIRMING] I organized lunch with my friends at this restaurant. Location is really nice. Food was decent (nothing exceptional). We were a group of 8 and eventually I paid the bill for all because they didn't accept 8 different cards. We decided to leave 20% of tip. Total was USD 288 + SF mandate (6%) + Taxes (overall about 9.14%) = 331.61. The payment was made online with a QR code. I believe that everywhere tip are applied at the total (pre any taxes), but unfortunately we resulted in tipping them USD 10 more. It's not about the USD 10, but what if they had done this mistake with all their clients? I email them explaining but their inbox was not working. I called the restaurant asking for an email address so I could have explained the issue: the person that responded said unfortunately that's the only email they have. I asked to speak to the manager and she said she was the manager. The only option for me was to go there and show them the receipt. I told them I had an email receipt and I didn't swipe my card into any cards reader, and that live 40 mins away. She insisted that the only way was for me to go back there. I gave up, telling her they overcharge clients as they apply tips to wrong amount and I told I was gonna tell everyone. Before hanging up the phone on me she said: "I am sorry you don't have 10USD to spare". Lady, I decide how to spend my money, I would have rather teared up a 10USD bill than giving it to you.

I went here with my ex wife and her girlfriend on Monday late afternoon. We had a couple of beers and a few margaritas made by the beautiful and talented Sophia god bless her. We then had the Salad during happy hour which was delicious and great value! The special prime rib dinner on Monday starts at 5 Pm, go for the bigger cut you will not be disappointed, mashed/baked potato is included Mmmm hmmmm! My wife’s girlfriend had the Clam (Chowder) which she said was just like my wife’s at home! She licked it clean! My prime rib steak was a few minutes late arriving which was fine by me, I didn’t even notice! But the manager walked by and heard about this and offered me s free dessert for waiting , I think his name is Fernet! Anyway 10 out of 10 all round , we will all be back!

Food was good. I would add ambience would certainly elevate experience I would absolutely come again but interior feels like you’re not interested in customer

I’ve been to Park Chalet several times over the past couple of months. The setting is unbeatable—whether you’re upstairs soaking in ocean views or downstairs enjoying the pet- and kid-friendly vibe in the sun or shade. The bar is great, the service is stellar, and every single time we’ve visited, we’ve had the incredible luck of being seated with Andrea. Andrea is a gem. We actually first met her years ago at M.Y. China, and by pure chance, she’s been our server at Park Chalet every time we’ve come. She remembers us, she’s attentive without hovering, and she genuinely elevates every visit. No matter what’s happening with the food—and there have been some hits and misses—Andrea always makes things right. Her level of care and professionalism is rare and deserves major recognition. As for the food: the beignets are solid. The smoked salmon Benedict could use a crunchier base (the bread’s a little too soft). The regular eggs Benedict comes with pork loin instead of ham, which doesn’t appeal to me, so I haven’t tried it. I did try the Park Benedict but didn’t realize it came without meat, so I added bacon on the side. It was okay overall. The clam chowder was decent, though I wouldn’t go for a full bowl. Fish and chips were just alright. A consistent issue is that the fries are cooked in the same oil as the fish, so they taste like fish no matter what you order. And the coleslaw—well-prepped, fresh, but completely bland. Just a touch of seasoning would make a world of difference. That said, the BBQ sandwich was a standout—flavorful and satisfying. My friend enjoyed the corned beef hash, the huevos rancheros, and the lobster and shrimp, though the presentation on those plates could’ve been cleaner. This place has real potential to be a five-star experience. The vibe, drinks, and especially the service—shoutout to Andrea—are top-tier. If the kitchen stepped up its seasoning game and cleaned up a few preparation details, Park Chalet could really shine.

My hosts chose this venue after a sunset photo shoot. Was not disappointed. Enjoyed their blonde beer with complimented the perfectly cooked fish and decent fries. The fish was not over battered like so many establishments which made up for the small portion

We had lunch at the chalet. Beautiful settings, good food (I would say average good) but very expensive. The lobster roll for 26.65 plus tax was really small. Staff was very friendly and service fast.

We were very disappointed with our meal at the Beach Chalet. Friends who live in San Mateo suggested we meet here for a meal followed by a walk on the beach. Clearly, the location of the restaurant is the main draw, and the ambiance/ view was lovely. But our meal was subpar. We both ordered the eggs benedict with crab/ shrimp cakes and potatoes. Neither my husband nor I tasted any crab at all, and I had no shrimp whatsoever. The cake tasted like fried bread crumbs. The potatoes were soggy and the coffee was weak. Perhaps other menu items are better, but our choice was such a disappointment.

Just steps from ocean beach you can find this place perfect for a snack. We went there during the happy hour and the food is good, the service is excellent this place has parking. I just give three stars because we consider that the kids many is a little bit expensive compared with other restaurants. Also, this time we were seated at the restaurant on the top level and had a super strong smell to fresheners. But so far was good.

I like the Beach Chalet. It has everything that I look for in a restaurant. The food is good to very good, the drinks are just find, the view is fantastic and the parking is easy. Always a relaxing place to go or to take guests.

Greeted nicely, didn’t have reservations but seated promptly by window. Food too dense to see anything though. Butternut squash soup was excellent as was the burger 🍔. Service was very personable and restaurant was busy with live music.

We went to the Beach Chalet for a microbrewery experience near the waterfront...and this didn't disappoint! The building was excellent; definitely an old beach building décor. The decorative tile murals in the building were very interesting to spend some time looking at. The restaurant was upstairs, after going through the general public plaza area. I ordered a baked sole dish, and was very pleased with the dish...the fish was flavorful, not overcooked, and prepared as a dish very well. And, for the beer lover...the sampler here was a fantastic deal! 7 4 oz. samplers for a very reasonable price. On the whole, the beer here was solid, and complemented the meal. Be prepared, though, that if you need to use the bathroom, you need to go back downstairs from the restaurant to the general public area. Although separated from the beach by a quite busy road, there are still very much ocean front views to be had here; we were fortunate enough to be seated along the window, with gorgeous views. Overall, we very much enjoyed our meal and experience here, and wouldn't hesitate to return.

We finished our visit of Golden Gate park with lunch at the Beach Chalet. The Beach Chalet provides a broad menu and their own beer, but its location across the street from the beach is its most prominent feature. I can see why reviews saying a visit at sunset is a special treat. The food, especially the chowder, was good and service was attentive.

The outlook is fabulous even when pouring with rain, the restaurant staff exceptional and the food wonderful - thoroughly enjoyable experience. My friend from Los Gatos will be back. The young man at reception could do with extra training regards attitude and presentation He had music too loud, and was slouching in his chair. The restaurant staff were of a completely different calibre, well done!

Went there to have A snack and beer after 8 miles Walk trough Golden Gate Park - very nice food, staff and prices were surprisingly low - nice view over the Ocean Beach highly recommendable

It was our first visit to the Beach Chalet Brewery and Restaurant. I made reservations for a Saturday at 11:00am, and I mentioned to the Hostess how busy it was, and she said it was getting there. They are usually busier. When we left at 12:30pm, it was very busy. We also got the last seat by the window. So be safe and make reservations for the weekend. Our waitress was very friendly and professional. The food was very good. I had the Beach Chalet Breakfast, which was 3 eggs, potatoes a meat choice and toast. I asked for no meat and extra potatoes and received them. It was also a nice surprise as the potatoes had some minced garlic mixed in. It was very good. My friend had the Vegetable Frittata with salad on top. It had mushrooms, spinach, cauliflower, potatoes and some other vegetables, and my friend really enjoyed it. I had a taste and it was good. It was a foggy day, so bring a jacket, or sweater. The fog certainly did not deter the cyclist, and fellow beach enthusiasts. Also there is a wonderful mural in the entrance. Definitely worth a look. If you go, I hope you enjoy it.

Went to Beach Chalet since we had spent a few hours in Golden Gate Park and we were getting a bit hungry. This was close by and really the only option. We got an order of fish & chips and calamari to share between my wife and I. Food came quickly, but was a bit greasy. Given the prices, was hoping for much better. Server was non-existent after taking our order; food was delivered by kitchen staff. Likely won't return and will wait to find much better food options outside of the GGP area. $70 for a mediocre lunch.

Part of San Francisco history, this place has beautiful art and sculpture in the bottom part of the building with the restaurant on top, overlooking the ocean. They have great beer and wine and delicious food, but it is a bit expensive. You are paying for the view and the experience. We bicycled through the park and this was our mid-way treat. Others mention it is crowded, so go there between lunch and dinner. It seemed that the waiters were old timers, had been there forever, very experienced.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in SF. The upstairs dining has awesome views of the ocean, and the seafood selections are huge. And delicioooous. The downstaris patio restaurant is also great. There's often live music and there's delicious food. The lobby has great iSF Historic information - especially about the Golden Gate Park.

Had lunch and the view and service were excellent. I had the beer sampler which turned out to be 8 four once pours of every beer they produce. The cost was $14 but that turns out to be fair for the experience. My wife had the fratata and I the burger. Her dish was the better. After we went down stairs and looked at the WPA murals which are so rich in history. We later walked along the beach to finish our experiece. A very nice day.

This is well worth the frustration of limited parking. It is absolutely necessary to come with a reservation. Reservations can be made online. Seating is on the upper level of the building providing a wonderful view of Ocean Beach (the west end of Golden Gate Park) and the Pacific Ocean. Accessable by elevator or stairs. After a good meal, the lower level is rich in Depression-era WPA paintings.

I had lunch at the Beach Chalet Brewery - it was not too crowded, yet we were seated by the other side of the restaurant so we didn't have a view on the sea. The beers are good, and I also liked the salmon dish I had for lunch. It was served with white bean and corn stew which I found rather original. Food tasted good but not very special. I did like the meal though.

Excellent food and good service. The oysters were fantastic. The clam chowder was delicious. Good wine list. Right at the edge of GG park. There is a patio for more casual dining, a little market and a sit down restaurant upstairs. Everyone will find something to suit them at this restaurant and landmark.

Two couples for lunch on a weekday. no wait for table. We had buttermilk fried calamari to start. Then fish+chips, lobster roll, seared ahi sandwich. Service was slow. Food served hot, tasty. Yes you can look out at the ocean. The restaurant is housed in a historic building. But very pricey for what you get.

Lovely restaurant to watch the sunset over Ocean Beach. The Salomon with purple sweet potato mash was delicious and I recommend the homemade pie of the day for dessert. There was only one vegetarian option I could see on the menu and it is quite pricey but worth it for the location. I’d say this is a must if you’re only in San Francisco once!

Located right on the great highway at the beach this restaurant has one of the best views in town. I went with the crab Benedict and it was awesome.

At this old restaurant across from the beach in San Francisco on the edge of Golden Gate Park, you really feel that the staff value clients and that the kitchen staff also want to make sure you enjoy yourself. I once again had the buttermilk fried calamari and delicious crab cakes and my companion ordered the leek and corn soup with rock shrimp and fish and chips. Ingredients were very fresh and the dishes well prepared. The host made sure we could have a table with a view of the ocean and our waiter was very attentive. A delightful meal.

Check my other reviews – I don’t give out a “5” easily. Beach Chalet has it all. Free parking in its lot, ocean view, great service, reasonable prices. The four of us were very pleased with our meals. Thinking about the crab melt sandwich makes me salivate still now. BTW: The building is shared with the Park Chalet, when in the past we’ve had equally fine dining experiences.

There is one sign in the lobby saying to protect your person items. No verbal mention of just how seriously you should take this. Our rental car was broken into and robbed around 6pm on Sat night with tons of witnesses around and parked right next to the walkway leading into the restaurant. A member of our party noticed this as we sat in horror right next to the beautiful window view. Another friend yelled call 911 to the person working the front desk and from our best knowledge in speaking with the police, he did not call. Policec said it is best for the place of business to make the 911 call as the responders will get the exact address immediately. I instead called and described what was happening when a gun was pulled on members of my party who ran out of the building trying to scare off the robbers as well as one good Samaritan jumping in a attempt to help as well. Clearly they backed off. They made off with 7 suitcases. Thank God no one was hurt and the only things lost were elections and jewelry. The police officers that responded were wonderful and apologized saying this is sadly a common occurrence. Not sure why this place of business would not have security cameras knowing this or why they don't take a more aggressive approach in warning their patrons. The place looked gorgeous and our drinks were very good. Never did get to eat our meals which they were kind enough not to charge us for...just be aware- DO NOT leave anything of value in your car, particularly if you have a rental. I don't write this to trash the place despite my lack of enthusiasm to their response of what happened to us but to warn all of you reading just how dangerous this area is. Another car from our group was also broken into at the beach about a block away. Leave your valuables in your room/house and Uber over.

Very crowded so go on the fringe of operating hours. Good food, service and beer. Get one of their growlers, its a keeper.

Lunch was delecious: an appetizer of seafood deviled eggs topped with shredded crab, followed by an outstanding Crab Louis salad, and finished with a simple dessert of vanilla icecream drizzled with chocolate sauce. From our window table we had nearly a 180 degree view of the sweep of beach and ocean across the road. Inside, on the main floor (below the restaurant and now named the Visitor Center), the walls are a continuous mural of 1930's artwork, the result of a WPA funded project to support American artists (in this case, artist Lucien Adolphe Labaudt ) and San Francisco depression era history. I didn't try the beer but I understand it's good.

If you get a chance stop in and have a drink and a seafood appetizer, you will not be disappointed!!

Wonderful meal where our group was able to get a private room looking over the ocean. Delicious food and great service.

I have always been suspicious of restaurants that have a great view. This place is a perfect example. Beach Chalet restaurant is located on the second floor of a depression era building with great WPA murals, on the western edge of Golden Gate Park. It is a comfortable setting with terrific views of the beach and ocean across the street. The service is good. However the food is awful. We ordered clam chowder, fish and chips, and roasted broccoli. The clam chowder did contain clams and potatoes but was overthicked to the point of gloppiness and had the overwhelming taste of fennel. The fried fish was served in an almost overflowing pool of grease, the soggy coating immediately slipping off the meat when I attempted to cut a piece. The broccoli was so over -salted to the point where it was inedible. So, not so good. I would like to point out that there is a restaurant downstairs in the same building where we eat lunch occasionally. It was closed this day because of the weather (?). It also a lovely room, but with a view only of the garden. The food is considerably better and the prices more reasonable. A far better alternative I think.

We went without reservation and could eat without problem. The service was friendly and attentive. The food proved tasty, although the price is somewhat high. The best, without a doubt, the ocean views, which make the experience worthwhile. Ideal for a relaxed meal with good company.

Went here for a birthday dinner. The food is just so-so! And super expensive! $8.00 for a lemonade!! Youu are really paying for the view!

Great restaurant and great see view from the first floor ! Food was fantastic, we had the fish n chips and steak dish, both cooked beautifully, just right ! The house beer is absolutely fantastic as well : ) So nice, with a guava taste I would say, absolutely gorgeous, very special, we sure enjoyed it !

Iconic place right on the beach. Terrific happy hour drinks and menu 3-6pm. Food was excellent, recommend the $10 hamburger and beer. Cocktails were lovely also. Sit at the bar or table service apply. Fantastic views of the fire pits and beach. Take a jacket it was windy and cold. Do the headland walk up past Cliff house for more great views. 5 and 5r bus from Powell st and market will get you there. Great day was had but don’t swim the water is treacherous and freezing.

For tourists and lovers of all things ocean - this is your spot. Even if lunch is not a 5 this restaurant has an amazing view and is “soo...San Francisco.” Not all selections are a home run but the calamari gets kudos. The ahi salad was a good choice if not off the map; the clam chowder a little heavy on the potatoes and light on the fish. The service is good and the restaurant is accessible. Am likely to return here again and again particularly when taking advantage of an exhibit at the de Young Museum - an all time favorite attraction!

This is a nice place to have a quick lunch prior to visiting the park. While service was rather slow, the food was good and the prices were decent for San Francisco.

This landmark has the best ocean view and parking in the city, in sunny or foggy days. The extensive menu and drinks appeal to a broad palate, highlighting Northern California’s Dungeness in their version of crab tartine or carbonara, both $28. Calamari has a crisp light crust and tender flesh ($14). Truffle fries ($10) are delicate strips redolent of truffle oil and cheese shaving. If only these starters were salted less to be more palatable like we remember it pre-pandemic. When asked the usual query about our apps, I said it was too salty, but I could take it. “Duly noted,” server said. He returned with an explanation: The aioli had some kind of condiment that kicks up the saltiness. No, they don’t sprinkle salt at the end, he said. Service was fast and solicitous as in past visits. Can’t beat the sight of the majestic Pacific over a Lavender Lemon Drop, but best remind the server to go lightly on the salt to savor the experience Beach Chalet. Or skip the apps and go straight for the mains.

What a wonderful view to enjoy a wonderful meal. Service was good, welcoming. All servers had masks on in may 2021. My daughter and I went together and we shared the ricotta beignets, the burrata on sour dough and the crab Benedict. The beignets were a large plate full of small balls of fried deliciousness served with honey. Not light. the ricotta in them made them a bit heavy, but still delicious. Get them to share for a group. The Crab Benedict was the absolute start of the morning. Crispy, and rich without being heavy and greasy. We were disappointed in the burrata. The burrata was creamy but bland. It needed salt. The bloody mary was good but not great.

Service was a little slow but they were crowded. I had the lobster roll. Cole slaw was good, not too much mayonnaise. Homemade chips were yummy. Lobster was seasoned well but there was hardly any of it, it was all bread.

We met a friend here for lunch, having never been before. We had a table right by the window with a fabulous view over Ocean Beach, worth coming here for that alone. Service was prompt and attentive. We all had seafood options, everyone ate well. The Beach Chalet is not fine dining but the food is good and value for money, nice atmosphere too. Don't miss the WPA era murals in the foyer downstairs, another hidden San Francisco gem.

Nice waiter SoSo food Hostess very disrespectful keep hovering wanting us to hurry and go Was a birthday Never again Is this how you treat dinners

This restaurant was part of a visitors center. It’s situated right at the Pacific Ocean side of Golden Gate Park. It’s upstairs and has the most unobstructed magnificent view of the Pacific Ocean. However, I took a look at the menu and quickly noticed the higher prices for a typical lunch dish. A swordfish sandwich was around thirty dollars. In relationship to Fredericksburg, VA, that’s a lot of inflationary pressure. I would think San Francisco would want to try something to counter the inflation.

We where seated quickly but things quickly unraveled from there. Server ignored us about 20 min before taking our drink orders, then seamed confused that we where ready to place our food order at the same time. Appetizers arrived after the main entree with no apology, expo runner unwilling to take them back. We had to wait another Five minutes to get utensils to eat with, by then the food was cold. Neither the server or manager willing to make the situation right. Watched the couple next to us wait Ten min for utensils to eat their dessert with.

Appetizers were very good, everyone's entree was delicious and generously portioned. The art work on the walls downstairs depict the history of the area. Oh, and the view is awesome...overlooks Hwy 1 and the ocean.

Very nice hangout great ocean view . . Great food. Great service reasonably prices considering the location.....beautiful view of pacific. Great good and our server was so elegant. Great job

Nice way to end a full day at Golden Gate Park. Great view of Ocean Beach (nice that we were offered a few seat options). Food was delicious...tasty and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We had Cioppino and crab carbonara. Had we had longer stay in SanFrancisco, we would want to try something else on the menu which we would expect to be equally as good. We had originally planned to go for happy hour, but the menu is only good if you sit at the bar (wish this was indicated on the website)--it would have allowed us for better planning regarding when to go. We ended up with dinner, though was very good...a sunset view at a later time would have been our choice. There was live music playing...we found a little too loud had we been there for a special date.

They have far too many thefts for tourists. Diner beware, they will profile you and break into your car and steal your items. Food was good but would suggest leaving literally nothing in your car and leaving it unlocked. We went to tell the manager about the car being broken into and the manager turned around and walked away, before we could tell the hostess that our back window was shattered and luggage stolen she so kindly pointed out there are no cameras and that it happens daily. If a restaurant truly cared about their patrons - they would have security cameras.

We went to Beach Chalet for a birthday dinner celebration, one guest ordered a vegan plate, which she has done a number of times there. This time, the wait person returned to say he would not make a vegan plate...not that he "could" not but would not. We were shocked bit the wait person went back and talked to another chef, who said he could make it. So she ordered a small salad and a side of veggies. The salad was perfect. But the side of veggies turned out to be a teensy portion of overcooked mushrooms, about three spoonfuls worth and a chunk of broccoli drenched in butter (not vegan). Didn't seem like their best night.

First time here in YEARS! Celebration with friends, 8 friends as a matter of fact and plenty of room for one of our guests who was in a wheelchair. The remodel is beautiful with plenty of windows to enjoy the the view. With the new remodel, there is no real buffer for the noise level, which was so high, we could barely hear our own conversations. Food was good, but way overpriced. Gee $8.00 for a bottle of coke ! I had the Butternut Squash soup, which I had to send back 2x because it was barely warm. Plus the Truffle Mac & Cheese, also barely warm. A Cup of Tea and a Latte, all this with the many taxes and tip was $52.00. Sorry Beach Chalet, I won't be back. The service was also nothing spectacular.

Stopped by during a hike and quickly loved the location. Getting seated was not an issue, however realized we had a wait due to limited staff. Ordered the stout and waters. After quite a while the food was served, the fish tacos had a strong fish smell and was not fresh. The best part of the meal was thr location. Will not go back

Wonderful Ocean Beach views from this unique 2-sided restaurant. We chose the Beach over the Park and enjoyed every minute. Excellent San Francisco service and tasty options. Lunch on Thursday heading north and again on Friday heading back south. Appetizers are our favorites - crab cakes especially.

We enjoyed gorgeous views and good food on this visit. The dining room looks impeccable. The service was ok; I think they might be understaffed. The brunch included a live pianist. We enjoyed our fish and chips, Brussels sprouts, farro, and eggs Benedict. The food wasn’t epic but solidly good. Of course, you pay more for the stunning views of the Pacific. Parking is limited, but we lucked out and got a spot after waiting five minutes.

The service was exemplary. The food was outstanding. I had the daily special which was a pork shoulder braised & served on bean it was very good. The clam chowder with bacon was very tasty. If you come here Ocean beach is across the street. It’s very pretty but you cannot swim in it due to deadly currents. This is a solid food choice after visiting the Golden Gate Bridge, Fort Point, the Disney Family Museum, or Sutro bath ruins/ Cliff House.

The Beach Chalet is a busy, friendly eatery across the road from the beach at the end of Golden Gate Park. Service when we were there was a bit slow, but it was a busy Saturday. The hamburgers were excellent, though the fries not quite hot enough.

After walking through the gardens at Golden Gate Park, we stopped for lunch at the Beach Chalet. It has a stunning view of the beach and the food was yummy. Great and friendly service.

Fast service, too fast (the bill arrives before you even ask for it, no time to enjoy it). Very expensive: $60/person for 2 dishes and a drink! Really unpleasant receptionist at the meeting Special request not taken into account

My husband and I have been here MANY times, practically every time we are in San Francisco. We have taken many relatives here as well, and they love it! We were there a couple of days ago, and we sat right by the window watching the waves coming in and the surfers The beer is very tasty, and it is brewed here. The food is very delicious. We like the seafood, and others like their burgers. The best part though is the view!

After a COVID-related hiatus, the Beach Chalet has reopened. My spouse and I had a very fine meal there yesterday and were pleased with the changes that have been made. There has been an extensive (and much-needed) renovation, making the whole facility look new and fresh. The tables are well-spaced for social distancing, and it appears that all required health precautions are being taken. There is also a new chef, and the menu has been slightly revamped. Prices are still a bit on the high side, but that's to be expected in a venue with a spectacular ocean view and a gorgeous lobby with WPA murals. We had an order of mussels with a wine, cream, bacon, and herb sauce. Excellent. We also had an order of fish and chips that used local cod. The fish was fresh and flaky; the batter was thin and crispy. The fries were nothing spectacular, but there was a very tasty coleslaw as well. Our server was extremely helpful and friendly. He made sure that, per our request, the fries were delivered hot from the fryer. There's nothing like being cold to take an order of mediocre fries into the realm of the truly awful. Overall, we both enjoyed out lunch here and look forward to our next visit.

After aimlessly driving around looking for a place to eat we stumbled upon The Beach Chalet and couldn’t have been more impressed. The food was amazing and the service was fast even though it was a busy Sunday. The best part about the restaurant though is the amazing view! Would highly suggest this spot for any meal if you’re from out of town and looking for a cool place to eat.

Enjoyed a lovely dinner here, seated straight away by the window for the view. Ordered the strawberry guava lemonade and beer sampler which were goid value. For our entrees had the pork schnitzel and fish and chips, food was cooked well but do think it's overpriced for what u get. Also had the mini caramel pudding which was bit disappointed with the flavour as didn't match the description. Waiters were friendly and efficient.

Great views, hard to park, braised short ribs was a chunk of chuck roast. Crab cakes = one crab cake. Service was slow and unattentive. Small portions over priced.

i have made the Beach Chalet the "go to" restaurant when I have friends visiting from out-of-town or out-of-country. Recently I hosted 8 adult friends and a 2-year-old child who were visiting from Europe, and I invited them to dinner at the Beach Chalet. First we tried the "sample selection" of all the beers brewed, which everyone enjoyed immensely. The food was, as always, fabulous - and much better than any restaurant within three miles. The seafood was greatly enjoyed by my guests, as was the steak - the steaks being superbly cooked and so delicious. Desserts were great and the service was outstanding. And, of course, the view of the ocean was magical.

Other than the view, which is spectacular, and the band that plays outside, everything else about this restaurant is abominable. The place itself is extremely loud and the diners are packed in with tables right next to each other so you have no privacy at all. The worst part, however, is the food. To say the food is bad is an enormous understatement, especially at the upscale prices they charge. I got the fish and chips with cole slaw. The fish was soft and tasteless, the fries were mushy, and the cole slaw was the worst I ever had-- totally bland. My girlfriend had a lobster sandwich, which, believe it or not, was even worse! It didn't even taste like lobster. I think it must have been some kind of fake seafood. So here's my suggestion. Bring a picnic lunch, sit outside and listen to the band, and then take a walk on the beach. Avoid this restaurant like the plague. It's a total tourist trap!

We got a table over looking the Pacific Ocean for the final dinner of our family holiday. We watched the sun set over the water as we drank cocktails and their brewed on site IPA. All very nice thank you. The food and service was excellent too. Personal favourites were the honey roasted chilli brussel sprouts (huge starter portion) and the crab carbonara.

Absolutely loved this place with amazing views of the beach and the staff were super friendly. Good was delicious and we really appreciated getting a table without a reservation. Looked like a busy place too. Very reassuring to see a security guard outside on the car park too. Nice touch. Highly recommend a visit here.

The three of us had a great meal overlooking the sun setting on the Pacific. Good choices for vegetarian . The food arrived well presented and really hot. Would come back here

We came here as a family as some had never seen ocean beach. We made reservations for 12:45 and were promptly seated. Some of us ordered breakfast, others lunch and found the food to be ok, probably 3-5 dollars higher than what would likely be charged elsewhere. Views of the beach were pleasant. It was only after getting our food that we had an inordinate wait to get our servers attention for check and doggie bag. This is a good touristy place.

Had amazing experience here food was delicious and the service was great. My wife and I stopped in for an early afternoon snack and had the Bodega Bay Smoked Salmon . It was amazing. Strongly recommend this dish.

Love to go to the Beach Chalet and have a meal when we are in SF. It's located right on Ocean Beach...it has tons of FREE parking...and the food and service are always good. Went here on Father's Day and you'd think it would be a mess. No reservation? No problem...sat in 2 minutes. Great server, tasty food. Another great meal experience. This place is so easy to get to and is so stress free it should be mandatory for tourists who are probably exhausted of paying tons for parking, walking for blocks to find their restaurant and having expensive, not so great meals. Try Beach Chalet...you'll thank me for the recommendation.

We first visited the Beach Chalet in 2007 and really loved the ambiance and food. So when we knew we were going to SF this October 2023, we definitely wanted to go back and revisit this restaurant. There was a scallops dish my husband had enjoyed on our first trip which they do not serve anymore. BUT the food was still delicious as we each had a different soup and split the fish 'n chips. I was concerned about break-ins as I heard it's bad in the area (and for me there was just a general unease about the safety of the area) but there were cops sitting in a patrol car in the parking lot and lots of people and families milling about. Plus where we sat, we had a great view of our car and so any concerns I had were put to rest. The staff was very friendly and attentive and the restaurant was pretty busy for a Friday lunch.

I absolutely loved the food the first time I came here a year ago. I absolutely loved the lobster mac and cheese. Even the Brussels sprouts were amazing. I had to return on my trip last month. The quality of the food was a complete 180. The crab cakes were tiny and tasted like they belonged at Long John Silver. The lobster mac and cheese, which was the entire reason I went to the restaurant, was mushy and had absolutely no sauce. Wanted to flag down a manager but couldn't get anybody's attention. I don't know if management had changed between my first and second visit, but this is probably some of the worst food I've ever had at a nice restaurant.

You know how upsetting it is when you have to constantly stop eating and interrupt your conversation to get the attention of your waiter? This was our experience at the Beach Chalet. FIVE times we had to put our full effort into trying to get the attention of our waiter. We went in New Year’s Day 2022 for brunch. There were two waiters in a section with only three tables with people, so they were NOT busy. Our waiter spent all his time at the bar, presumably chatting with the bartender. He would occasionally come near but would refuse to make eye contact or even look at our table to see if we needed something. He never checked back after the food arrived, which was a problem because the food was brought out cold. My crab melt had cold, rubbery cheese on top (you can kind of tell from the photo that the cheese has solidified) and my fries were warm in the middle of the pile but literally cold to the touch (like if they had just come out of the fridge) along the outside of the pile. Ten minutes passed with me trying to catch him to ask him about the temperature before I just decided to eat it cold; we were trying to have a nice meal for New Year’s Day). My husband had to ask this waiter to refill his coffee three times (the cups are tiny). The second time he corralled him over to our table and asked for a refill, the waiter went back to the bar and NEVER came back with coffee. This is no truck stop diner by any means, but at least at a truck stop they check in on your need for coffee and usually check back after the food is served. Our brunch for two was over $100 so I expected better than cold food and neglectful service. Maybe the whole staff was just hung over from my Eve, but I thought this was a local fine dining restaurant, but apparently it’s just a tourist trap where they don’t care about repeat business. When we left, we passed our waiter, another waiter, the bartender, and the host. Nine of them said goodbye, or thank you, or even made eye contact (and none of them looked too busy to do so). The view was lovely and the live piano music was nice. Aside from those two things, the only bright spot on this awful experience was the first floor host who was very friendly and welcoming. Everyone upstairs just created a terrible atmosphere and our meal was quite literally ruined by the indifferent, neglectful service we received. Very disappointed.

This was a first-time experience at Beach Chalet Restaurant. As it seemed quite pricey for breakfast/brunchtime I chose the mid-priced item of House-Cured Corned Beef Hash with Poached Farm Eggs and was not disappointed. With a sweeping view of Ocean Beach it was an enjoyable dining experience indeed.

We decided to go here for brunch and it was one of the most memorable meals I have had in my entire life. We shared a dungeness crab bisque which is in season in December and it was incredible. We are still talking about the high quality of the crab, seasonings and meticulous care of the cooking preparation of this dish. We also had crab and florentine cakes and a guava lemonade and we were impressed and satiated. Romantic view of the ocean and a lovely meal, what more could you ask for.

The historic building with the Diego Rivera mural is the perfect place to hang out and enjoy drinks and a meal overlooking the ocean through a wall of glass. The food was good. I ate there twice during a trip to SF. The first time I was somewhat impressed by the food (I had the lobster roll). The second time, not so much as the $49 steak was quite small and gristly. I could have sent it back but didn't. The waiters are very welcoming and polite. The menu has a lot of choices.

Having taken public transport from the Mission District down to the Great Highway with a view to walking back through the Golden Gate Park we stumbled across this place and decided to make a pit stop. It is quite an amazing place and the ground floor wall murals are excellent. It is a popular spot and obviously brunch here appears to be a must do. However, we only wanted drinks so sat at the bar. Service was good and it was a great place to chill for a while

We've been here numerous times for lunch and have never been disappointed. The boys like the burgers, I, the fish and chips or salads.

I recently visited the Beach Chalet with a friend for a nice seaside brunch. Our table was perfect and we enjoyed the beach view as the fog cleared and the sun came out to reveal blue skies. The service here is very professional - quite formal - and the politeness and properness was sort of refreshing. We shared a fruit plate as a starter and it was the fruit was fresh and tasty. I had a vegetable fritatta for my main course and it was also savory and well presented (though I can't say it "wowed" me). What you really go here for is the view and the location. Be mindful that on a weekend, the parking lot fills up so you may need to street park around the corner (which was easy enough). I like this place...the view alone makes it worth the trip.

Beautiful view, but nothing like it was when it first opened. Calamari still good, but smaller amount without the extras. All of us weren’t so impressed with our dishes. Other goodies the large tater tots & the mimosa Prosecco. We got there early with reservations & the food came out slow. Waiter forgot the clam chowders, a glass was dirty, & another glass had hair in it. Would’ve ordered beignets but was worried the quality wouldn’t be good or it would take too long. Bummed cuz I used to love this spot & the location!

I have to say that when this place was a dive bar in the 1980s I never got ripped off nor was my car ever broken into. But recently we were overcharged by $70 for two lunches (looking at you, Victor!). When I discovered this I called Beach Chalet and after several calls finally received a voice message from someone who refused to leave a direct number--the second time after I returned the call and asked for a number. I had to go to Visa to get things settled. Decent food, good views, but their lack of interest in solving what was a pretty clear case of employee misconduct is really pathetic. Any reasonably well-managed restaurant would not drop the ball on this.

Great selections of food and drinks. Friendly service. We had a large party of 12 and we all had great food, great service and plenty to drink. Very nice.

West coast trip and this was our first night out for dinner. Went here for the location but the weather did not cooperate. Wendy and foggy and this was a hike by uber from downtown. We split many of their apps and none were all that great in my opinion. I got the trout stuffed with crab and again pretty mediocre. No one raved about their meal. Service was very good and an interesting restaurant with a great location in good weather but the place was not hitting on much the evening we went

Nothing to complain about here! $28 for a plate of grilled swordfish, mashed potato and asparagus. Great view over the water. Friendly service and food was great!

Very busy spot on the Great Highway. Made reservations a month in advance and was excited to enjoy my birthday with friends. We arrived and were missing one in our party and they wouldn't seat us until she arrived. Turns out a broken down car prevented her from getting there and delayed our seating by 15 minutes. Service was good, food was good. Disappointed because brunch goes until 3 and we had reservations for 2PM and I had been told we could order lunch or brunch. When finally seated we were told we could only order lunch. Also we were just finished up and had not paid the check yet but the manager advised that a large party was arriving and we would need to move to the bar area if we were staying (he would buy a round of drinks) but I felt a little put out as they delayed our seating and we were literally just putting our forks down when asked to relocate. They put together a nice high top for us and did buy drinks but I did feel a little put out by this as I also spent quite a bit with drinks and food for the table.

Enjoyed a wonderful lunch with views of the ocean. Our server was warm and welcoming and made us feel right at home. Food was excellent! Would definitely recommend and will definitely return!

Friends took us here tonight, saying it was a great seafood restaurant. The menu was very short on seafood, plus a few other items. My wife's trout was very good, but my salmon was dry, and my friend's steak had so much gristle she considered sending it back. Service was slow, and the glass of wine I asked for arrived just as I was eating the last bite of my dry salmon. The place was packed, so it appears to be popular, but I don't see why...

I love the location and murals on the ground floor. Our lunch was highlighted by the craft beer that they brew. Our server was so good and helpful. The burger was just average and the bun was soaked through and was too small for the meat. Crab cakes were nothing exceptional. The fish soup was a disappointment- too much flour which caked on the surface and not much seafood. Chicken sandwich was nice with a tasty rub on it. Maybe a bad day but we have had better meals in the past.☹️

Located at the end of Golden Gate Park overlooking the beach and ocean. We ate here for lunch. We did not have a reservation, so we had to wait approx 20 mins for a table. As they brew their own beers on site, we used this time to try their "Sampler Set" of 6 beers. $16 a set and very nice too. We both had the Clam Chowder Cup to start. I had the burger for main and Barb had the lobster sandwich. Too full for a desert. All very nice indeed. Washed down with some lovely beer. The location is lovely - watching the waves break and the surfers. We really enjoyed our lunch here.

Have eaten upstairs at the beach chalet for more than 20 years. Food is good, beer is great, views are incredible. Today was only the second time I’ve eaten at the patio downstairs in back. It’s convenient to take children or a dog to the outdoors or covered patio area. It’s the same kitchen and the food was fine. The service was abysmal. We waited 18 minutes for a waiter to come take our order although he was at an adjacent table and I signaled for him several times.

We stopped in for a quick lunch. It was a rainy weekend so I felt like having a bowl of clam chowder. I ordered the chowder in a bread bowl. The sourdough bread bowl ($11) was super fresh and filled with a generous portion of delicious clam chowder. It wasn't chock full of clams but the consistency and flavor were good. My wife had the baby iceberg salad ($12). An iceberg wedge topped with bacon, Pt. Reyes blue cheese (yum!) and tomato cucumber relish. The Beach Chalet has a nice but laid-back atmosphere. The server was kind and timely. The view was great. Observing some of the other dishes passing our table, I have it in my plans to stop in again for something more substantial.

The only reason why we go to the Beach Chalet is because there are no other options nearby. Things we dislike and reasons why we won't go back: *You have to wait over 30 minutes before your drink order arrives to the table. *The food is average and portions small (more potatoes than fish, a chicken salad that has practically a few shreds of chicken over it, the list goes on) *It is incredibly OVERPRICED *The service is bad *The experience is mediocre

We ate here one evening in later April 2019, this was a last minute pick on the way back to our hotel in Daley City after taking late afternoon pictures of the Golden Gate bridge. From the outside we had our doubts when we drove up, but the restaurant (on the 2nd floor of the building) is lovely inside. We ate at a table with a fantastic view of the beach and sunset.. the service was very good and the food tasty and great quality. My wife and I shared a burger (we are British and most US portions are too much) - our son had the Chicken Carbonara. We were all happy with the quality and quantity of the food. Desserts were also very good.. Strawberry and Rhubarb tart with ice cream is not a combination I have had before but was delicious. The onsite brewery beers are great - I had an IPA which was just the right balance of smooth but bitter. The sunset was an added bonus.. we happened to be here on a gorgeous night with the waves crashing onto the beach, and not a cloud in the sky.. superb location when the weather is right.

This was my first time to The Beach Chalet Restaurant and I was not as pleased with the Service or food quality. Wanted a window seat which many were emptied and was told those were reserved, but we did get a nice window seat after asking multiple times. After 2+ hours no one came to the other “reserved” seats by the window. Fish was ok but not great and fries under the fish were a bit greasy. Overpriced for the meals in my opinion. The views were amazing of the Sunset that was happening. Otherwise it was a great parking area with bathrooms in that area.

We enjoyed our last night observing the sunset with a wonderful dinner. Our waiter was excellent. I had the special of the night, their version of cioppino. It was delicious. The beer from their brewery was on point as well. Thank you for a wonderful ending to our vacation.

Stopped here for lunch after a long walk through Golden Gate Park. I don't know if their menu changes seasonally, but I ordered the organic chicken (I think it was a half-chicken) and it was fantastic. Came with mashed potatoes and au jus and it was honestly the best meal we had in San Francisco during our trip. Tables were kindof close together, so be ready to get comfy with your neighbors. Service was fine. But man, that chicken.

The venue is iconic and the view if the beach and ocean are nice. But for me, the food is a priority. Unfortunately, the service, price and views don’t make up for the so-so food. An alternative is the Park Chalet just downstairs in the same buidling.

Outside of the Cliff House this is really the only place to eat at Ocean Beach with a great view. The building is a historic building with great WPA murals on the ground floor-worth looking at before or after your meal. The Beach Chalet is the upstairs restaurant and Park Chalet is the downstairs restaurant. I have eaten in both and I think the prices at Park Chalet may be lower. If it is a nice day you might want to opt for Park Chalet and sit outside but then you won't have the ocean view. I usually stick to the chowder and fresh oysters because those are my favorites. However, I like the fish and chips and the portion is so generous that we often split it. The food can be a bit pricy but the portions are generous and I would recommend splitting dishes.. The last time I was there the restaurant had posted a huge sign at the door warning visitors about car break ins and advising people not to leave anything valuable or visible in their cars. Unfortunately San Francisco is having an epidemic of car break ins and I'm glad the restaurant has put up the warning sign. If you do drive to the restaurant please heed the sign.

Classic American restaurant menu. Salads and fried dishes as well as Burgers. Cod fish and chips with a decent aioli. Surprise: we pay a lot for this view upstairs of the ocean... until the manager lowers the curtains... because the sun coming in through the windows will disrupt his air conditioning!!!... We tells him that we come to enjoy the view (in front of the embarrassed waiters)... whatever, this gentleman leaves with his remote control and invites us to lean over to see the beach under the blinds... distressing. .. and too expensive if you only have to come to this address in bad weather 🤣

Our son brought us here to have lunch after a nice drive down the coast. We were lucky to gat a nice table by the window, with that amazing view over the beach and the ocean. All three of us had cioppinos for lunch, with some garlic bread to share. There must have been a half a crab in each, plus mussels, clams and prawns. A very messy experience shelling everything, but hugely enjoyable and very, very tasty.

I had eaten here several times before. I enjoyed the Clam Chowder, but I thought that the Caesar Salad needed homemade dressing, the dressing was lacking. My friend ordered the crab melt and she seemed to like it. Of course, the view of the Pacific Ocean is spectacular!

The prices are high—$23 for fish and chips, $32 for a Lobster/Shrimp Roll—but the price for their EXCELLENT CALAMARI is amazing at only $15 for a generous portion! The Calamari was excellent! My daughter loved her Lobster Roll. Her friend's fish and chips were average. My Clam Chowder in a Bread Bowl was average in taste and quality, but very small for the price and definitely smaller than restaurants of less caliber. The bread-bowl bread was tough and day-old at best. Definitely do NOT sit next to the windows in the afternoon from 1:00 p.m. and onward!!! The sun shines so brightly and its rays are very hot through those beautiful and big windows!! The window-shade for each BIG window can be lowered, but it will block the view for many people when only one table's customers want one window's shade drawn. I typed this in 2019 and thought I sent it. The prices are the same.

We were told it would be a 30 minute wait on Saturday. After 40 minutes, we were told it would be another 20 minutes since we didn't have a reservation. After an hour we were told we would be the next party-of-four but then watched two other groups of four sat. Finally, the staff agreed to push two bar tables together. The waiter then didn't greet us for another 15 minutes. When we shared our disappointment, his reply was "it happens". Overpriced, average food with poor hospitality. If you're visiting from out of town like we were, there are plenty of better places to enjoy.

A very dirty restaurant. I was disgusted just looking around but we were hungry and there's nothing else in the area. Getting off the elevator there was a stinky filthy barrel by the bar. Our server was nice but I will NEVER eat there again.

If you’re looking for a great food, beautiful view and second to none service then you have to go to Beach Chalet restaurant. For starter I recommend the Ceviche Trio Sampler. Also, I recommend the salmon plate with white wine. Over all I had a great experience and memories for life.

Went in early December with my spouse, my cousin, and her wife. Requested and received a table with an amazing view of the ocean. Our party enjoyed the oysters and deviled eggs; I had the Dungeness Crab Carbonara for my entree. I had previously eaten a crab carbonara made with "blue swimming crab" at another restaurant and the Beach Chalet's version completely blew it out of the water. No comparison between true Dungeness crab and anything else. The four of us had a lovely time and I also enjoyed my whiskey mule made with local Redwood whiskey.

The view on a clear day is beautiful. They gave us a lovely table by the window. Service good. Food: Brussel sprouts are by far the best Ive eaten. A touch of balsamic glaze was perfect. The warm sourdough and butter was really good. Crust perfect. Clam chowder was fair. Too milky for my taste. Lemonade was good. Was a little expensive but given the view it was worth it.

It is a bit pricy, but the food tastes good. The waiters were less pleasant. First it took quite some time to take the order, while only half the tables where used. The view made this less important. At the end something strange happend, the waiter started demanding a higher tip. There was a tip, but he did not like it even though the service was not very quick. It became a very unpleasant situation.

You’re paying for the view of the beach and ocean. Unfortunately there aren’t a lot of options and Cliff house is also pricey. We asked that the chicken wings be extra crispy and said to please make sure - because we’d send them back. You guessed it. When dishes finally came out the wings were flabby. Sent back and they came back crispy but after we’d eaten our other food. That was the crab and shrimp Loui salad - decent, and some fries. Not the most exciting menu. Toilets are downstairs and smell bad - old plumbing.

We have been to the Beach Chalet Restaurant a few times in the last month. We had Sunday brunch one time and a late afternoon lunch the other. The food there was quite good in spite of it being a little on the touristy side. They have a nice variety of items on the menu, with focus on fish and seafood items. We have had the seafood Benedict, hash skillet with egg and potatoes, chicken sandwich, fried calamari, Caesar salad, green goddess chicken salad and crispy Brussels sprout appetizer which was to die for. The service has been very good on both of our visits. Also, there is a large lot for parking with additional overflow parking across the street by the beach, which is a plus. The weather can be hit or miss for people visiting, so dress in layers and don’t expect a clear view of the beach everyday.

We popped in here for a quick lunch, unfortunately we arrived at a very busy time, but our food was delicious when it came, just had to wait a wee while for it.

We always enjoy a table by the window, looking at the waves rolling in and the ships entering the bay. The food is always fresh and the servers attentive. We had calamari fritti and clam chowder as appetizers and trout with crab and halibut as main dishes which were perfectly done and accompanied by very good vegetables.

This is the kind of place people will drive by without noticing its okay to go in. An old rustic building right across from the Pacific Ocean and beaches. We decided to eat upstairs and were met by a very cordial young lady who sat us down within five minutes. The bar was big with an ample supply of beverages. The dress was beach casual and the views were wonderful. Food selection was abundant with a lot of good seafood plates. Staff and waiter were professional and helpful. Really enjoyed our early dinner and ambiance. Definitely worth the time.

After a day walking around Golden Gate Park, this is a good place to end, but probably not worth seeking out. The beers are good but forgettable and the food average and overpriced. The glass roof, while nice, also means the back room is extremely hot too. There were a lot of beautiful doggos there, do if you have a canine friend (or just enjoy petting them), that's definitely a plus!

We arrived on time for our 12:30 reservation on a Sunday, but had to wait 10 minutes to be seated. Our table was right in front of the window so we could enjoy the beautiful view of Ocean Beach on a bright, sunny day. It was fascinating to watch the para-sailers glide over the waves. Service was slow. Our water glasses were filled right away, but it was a while before the waitress came by. We gave her both our drinks and food orders right away to avoid any further delay, because we were hungry! My daughter ordered the beer flight, which was nicely presented and described by the waitress, but the beers weren't very cold. My spinach Eggs Benedict dish was delicious and hot; my daughter said that her crab melt sandwich, which was quite expensive, didn't actually have much crab. My husband enjoyed his fish-n-chips. Conversation was really challenging because the room was so LOUD, and the party of 4 next to us were screaming loudly and ordering many drinks; we were grateful when their food finally arrived, because that shut them up for a while. It was a rather costly lunch, $120 for 3 of us, so this is more a special occasion place for us; however next time, we'll visit on a different day of the week to hopefully avoid some of the shouting crowds ! The ground floor of this historic building has a few exhibits about the history of the area, as well as some beautiful wall murals. Spend a few minutes enjoying them before you go back out into the brisk sea air.

Made a reservation for our first evening on vacation in San Francisco. Great view of the beach Friendly service Good food Live music Happy hour If you found this review useful, please click the thank button.

Arrived for lunch on Thursday—Jan. 31, supposedly the last day of restaurant week. We were greeted by someone at the reception desk and taken to window seats—since there wasn’t a lot of competition at that point. We were given regular menus, and when we asked about the menus with the special offers for restaurant week—were told that they would have to check to verify if they were going to be offering that—with the indication that there was a chance that the offer had ended the day before. In a few minutes, the host returned to say that they hadn’t sourced the ingredients for the special offer, and weren’t offering anything after all. We found it an insult that they shouldn’t have been able to offer any kind of substitute/s in their own short sightedness. We left without eating.

Went with friends. Had to wait even with reservations. Place was mobbed on sunny weekend with tourists and soccer players from the field next door. It was like an oven in there as staff had not thought to open the windows. Shades closed because of bright sun, so no real views. Had a sweet but clearly overwhelmed waiter. Except for the crab cakes which were delicious, food was forgettable. Restaurant is on a busy road across from a popular beach so parking was very difficult. Would not return.

Went here for a late lunch last week with family. No wait for a window table overlooking Ocean Beach...lots of surfing action the day we were there. Upon entering the restaurant there was a strong fishy smell and the first floor entry served as a museum of the building. The historic information was fascinating as was the WPA mural and artifacts. Ordered seafood....excellent but a little pricey. The server was excellent. Food was tasty. The room seemed a bit tired...worn tabletops and frayed placemats. Looks like it is due for some refreshing. Overall--spectacular view and decent food.

We stopped here for a late lunch/happy hour. Very good food...Portobello sliders, blackened salmon sliders, ahi tuna poke tostadas, calamari, sweet potato fries, wine. The staff was a little flaky, but it wasn't terrible.

This was at the end of my hike with my husband and it is the best lobster roll I have had in the city. There was an upstairs restaurant and a downstairs one. The one downstairs had an open area that if you have a dog it is welcomed. Yes on my repeat list.

This place has possibilities.. However poor management is evident..The windows are filthy with bird poop..For a place that is suppose to have great views of sunsets it was pretty bad..We sat over 25 minutes to be greeted by our waitress .... Our Host who seated us was suppose to get a highchair , 15 mins later I asked him again and he looked at me and asked where I was sitting?.. The place felt dirt and the elevator smelled.. The 1 /2 chicken was not a 1 /2 chicken there was a breast and a wing?.. It was rubbery & disgusting. Seriously this was just tonight and I'm hoping I don't get food poisoning..I can't imagine what the kitchen looks like.. Buyer beware on this place.. Yikes

The highlight here is the beach view, if you can get a window table. The menu lans to seafood, though I saw many hamburgers served. They also serve specialty beers. We shared the ceviche trio appetizer, which was excellent. The swordfish and clam chowder were very good. Service was slow, they seemed under staffed. The window table made up for it.

Had a great time with friends at the Beach Chalet after work on Monday. From the hostess to the food, everything was far beyond our expectations. The calamari was overdone, but other than that I can't think of a complaint from the table. Two of us had steaks, two had prime rib and two had trout - all were server recommendations and he was right on with all of them.

Both hostess were so rude. specially the boy upstairs. I took my family that just got form NC to this restaurant and we got the worst experience ever. They told us to wait for 35 minutes and after 40 minutes we were told our table was ready. Once we went upstairs to be seated we waited for 5 minutes for someone to let us know which was our table. When I asked the hostess he was disrespectful and mocked us. He told us that our table wasn’t ready. I explained that we were told by the hostess downstairs that our table was ready that’s why we were there. he said I was lying and that I didn’t had a reservation that I we were JUST on the waiting list. I told him that he was being rude and that wasn’t the way to talk to a customer.… He responded “oh well you have to keep waiting because there is no table for you” and “do what you have to do”. INCREDIBLE!!!! WORST SERVICE IN SF!!

Food is decent but I went there for the view. However, I didn’t get a seat facing the ocean; they told me the tables were reserved but no one showed up. The restaurant has a weird old building-fish smell. The atmosphere and the furniture are not that elegant but prices are high as if it was an elegant restaurant. I tried it, it was ok, but I won’t go back.

Food was OK, except for the Fish n Chips that was 100% tasteless. For this price one could expect the chef to know how to make food with taste. Spaghetti was actually quite good. However the service was among the lousiest we have ever experienced - I’ve had better service at most McDonald’s and Wendy’s.... No refill of water, and we could not ask for it as the waitress never showed herself. Once she did, she did to remove plates from people still eating. This is a quite pricy place that is just a tourist trap. Go somewhere else unless you want to waste your money on horrible service and mediocre food.

Gee, I just went there with my friend to have a late light lunch, enjoy the view. Food was average, the view excellent, the service ok. What bothered me is that they somehow found me through my credit card and started sending me emails, before I even got back home., How annoying is that. .

Great food, but a bit pricey. Service was a little slow, but with the view that wasn’t a deal breaker. We had a nice view and watched the sunset as we finished our dinner.

My wife and I tried the Beach Chalet on the Great Highway and does have a great view of Ocean Beach. It is a very loud place, but this is understandable as it is vey busy and there are a lot of people talking. If you want a quiet conversation then this place is not for you. We started with the clam chowder which was good, but then things to a quick turn south when the Lobster Roll and Shrimp Linguini arrived. The Lobster Roll tasted like lobster right out of the pot with no seasoning. It really had no particular taste at all. The Shrimp Linguini also seem to be unseasoned. With the exception of the shrimp which tasted like it was cooked in sea water. It was very salty. Just be sure, it was not just me I let my wife try one and she had a grimace on her face and stated it was indeed SALTY. Same with the clams, mussels and squid. That made up the dish. Even the water glass had that smell, like it was cleaned with an old dirty sponge. By the time I received the food it was only lukewarm on the way to cold. If I am spending $100.00 for 2 meals, I have certain expectations, and I can safely say mine were not met. My advice is go to Subway by a sandwhich walk accoss the street and sit on the wall have lunch and enjoy the view. You will be happier, and it will only cost you $20. I will not be going back to try this place again. It's on my avoid at all costs list.

We left after half an hour without being served drinks or food. The waiters were confused and no one seemed in charge.

Great table at the far end of the room, overlooking the ocean front. We enjoyed the sunset, as well. However, they need to deliver GOOD food and GOOD service at a fair price. We ordered the Chalet Meatballs & Brussel Sprouts plus wine to start. Excellent. The main meals were the disappointment and our waiter was distracted (?). The salmon ($26.50), ordered medium well, was raw. By the time it came back cooked, the rest of our party had finished. Mussels & Sausage were actually mussels & very tiny-very few slices of sausage ($21.95). Sounds picky, but when you spend $200.00 you expect BETTER. My advice: stick to drinks and starters. Great views in a neat old building, but we should have stopped after the meatballs and brussel sprouts... & sat at the bar!!!

I have been here a number of times now, for a variety of occasions from simply wanting a good place to eat to celebrating my American citizenship. The food is straight forward (fish and chips, steak, fish stew, seafood, pasta), natural, well-sourced and beautifully cooked. The service is very efficient and avoids the San Francisco tendency for waiters to act toward their table of diners like Uriah Heap. There's always a bit of a wait but it's worth it. Above all, this is honest food. It is what it is and doesn't pretend to be anything else.

Group of 5 adults. All of the apps and entrees were great. Our waiter made some terrific recommendations. My one complaint would be to ask if a group wants to be seated by the band. We were and couldn’t talk

The food is great, the sunset on the beach is breathtaking. We love coming here after a day in Golden Gate Park. The cocktails are fantastic. While a little pricey, you do get what you paid for.

Sat outside on a Sunny Saturday and only had to wait 5 minutes for a table for 3. I had the pulled pork which was quite good. Nice atomosphere outside and no rush to hurry and finish. Definitely a pleasant place and I prefer the back area restaurant to the upstairs restaurant which is way too noisy to have a good conversation.

Hadn’t read about this place, just crossed the Golden Gate Park to Ocean Beach and thought, this building, only restaurant here, must be an overpriced tourist trap. What a pleasant surprise: excellent food, inexpensive afternoon = happy hour in the bar. Had about the best calamares ever, delicious asparagus, sliders, homebrewed IPA - super place!

Very disappointed with service and food. Did not get what was ordered and no refills on soda, charged for refills I did not know, and was never told

Had an early dinner on NYE. Beautiful views of the sunset, oysters were SOOOO GOOD! Beer is brilliant, reasonably priced. Highly reccomend!

I’ve been to San Francisco a dozen times, but not to this part near the beach and Golden Gate. We had a good lunch and everyone in our group, of 8, liked the food, drinks, and atmosphere. We had reserved a table by the windows and the view was just beautiful. What a nice leisurely Saturday lunch and friends.

Went there with my family. Had great service and great food. Excellent choice of entrees with wide selection of home-brewed beers.

I come here every so often because I like old school San Francisco, and it's a beautiful view. The building is nearing 100 years old, being part of the old Cliff House and Sutro Baths era. (Meaning, way before my time, and way before even the first dot com era, and even before Dirty Harry was cleaning punks out of SF.) The food is nothing special, it's a little touristy. But, when I'm here, I imagine the SF of yesteryear, looking out over the ocean, sipping their house brewed beer.

This restaurant is a wonderful place for a nice meal by the beach especially during sunset. The service was great throughout our meal. The dishes were tasty and reasonably priced. The calamari was the only dish that I didn't like. Though they were plentiful, the batter didn't stick to the calamari and we're not crispy.

Spouse and I dined here for their Restaurant Week lunch and were quite pleased with the quality of the food. Beach Chalet's offering was slightly different from others in that it consisted of an entree and dessert rather than appetizer and entree. We had a table by the window (which took some wangling and a short wait); the views of the ocean, seal rocks, and the Cliff House were great on such a sunny morning. We both had the duck, which was rare as we had specified and very flavorful. The cherry sauce and pureed chestnuts were great additions. The fennel could have been grilled longer; it was too crunchy for its thickness. The orange panna cotta dessert was delicious. It came in a jar and, while thicker than most, melted in our mouths. Service was adequate but not exceptional, and the decor was showing a good deal of wear and tear. The carpeting and tabletops were the most noticeable examples of this. The Restaurant Week menu was a very good value, but the regular menu is overpriced. I suppose you're paying for the view, which I'm sure is especially appealing to tourists and their children (of which there were quite a few), but the ambience should be less rough and ready at that price point. If you're looking for elegance and romance, this is not the place. If you're looking for a place where the view is memorable and that your kids will enjoy, then you've made a good selection.

Came with the boss and the boss’ family. We came to Cisco for work, so we came on a weeknight and it was super easy to get a table. We were seated by the window. The waitress was super attentive and patient. We tired the craft beers and ordered food. Everything was tasty and there was any long waiting times. I’m not a fan of Brussel sprouts but the ones here are way too good, as well as the REAL ceasar salad (careful if you take the whole anchovy in one bite). We ordered different plates, such as cheese burger, lobster roll and the pasta with gulf shrimp. I was full at the end of my plate! The prices are fair.

Stumbled across this restaurant by chance and so glad we did. Great view over the ocean. Friendly staff and the food was fantastic and a great Merlot was had. If in this part of San Fransisco I recommend.

Had dinner on a warm evening -- no air conditioning in this location where it is rarely needed. Even with windows open, the place was swelteringly hot and the noise level unpleasant. Service was spotty and the food unremarkable. I would not go again on a warm day. Views out over Ocean Beach, however, are stunning and parking while limited, is available in Golden Gate Park if you're willing to walk a distance through a scenic treasure.

We arrived a little later and without a reservation than the lunch crowd on a Saturday but were lucky enough to get a table and a window table at that! Would advise to make a reservation for sure. Had a ‘Walk on the Beach’ cocktail while waiting for our table - just do it!!! Great wait staff, tasty food and a wonderful view. Makes for a great late Saturday lunch.

We arrived late on Easter Sunday, after a long day exploring San Francisco, the staff were great, we ordered fish and chips plus some of the beers brewed onsite. Service was quick, and the fish and chips really good. Add to this the view of the sunset and it was the perfect pit stop on our way home.

STUNNING step back in time venue! On the beach, AMAZING views that we couldn’t see because the manager wouldn’t let us sit at a table for 4 at 230pm😡. We stayed anyways and were still glad we did-food was surprisingly excellent and fresh. Service was wonderful-everything was a real home run EXCEPT the nasty manager from Healdsburg

We came here mid-afternoon on a weekday, so we were seated promptly at the window. My wife had the shrimp louie salad and said the shrimp were good and fresh. I had the lobster roll, which was also good, but the accompanying potato chips were stale. The price was overall a bit high, but not surprising for a San Francisco restaurant right on the ocean. We would return when in the neighborhood.

Service was very good, the view of San Francisco beaches is great. Where they fail in my opinion is the menu. On the ocean shore I would expect fresh seafood on 80% of the menu. I had a tuna tartar only, it was ~ok. for those who like american stile food, go for it, prices are in the market.

A special place to dine in San Franciscol Good food, good menu, good service and a wonderful view of the Pacific Ocean and beach.

We had taken a long stroll through Golden Gate Park and wanted to eat by the Pacific. Beach Chalet is one of the few options in this area and we decided to have lunch there. We food was good (trout & shrimp) as was the service, but Beach Chalet was badly under staffed. There was a 30 minute wait for a table (after being told it would be 5-10 mins) in a half empty dining room at 1:30 on a Thursday - unacceptable given the conditions. So go for the view, but make sure you have a reservation.

First off, it was SO hot in the restaurant. Stifling! Horrible and slow service. Food and drinks were just ok. Nothing special and pricey. The view, however, was amazing.

We went for brunch at the Beach Chalet restaurant last Sunday. We got served with cold coffee three times, the food was awful, bacon that was cremated to dust, hash browns were frozen patties that were reheated, the chicken salad was just chicken and lettuce. Serving cold coffee for breakfast is inexcusable!!! We had to wait for food more than 45 minute and the restaurant was not busy. We will not go back there again.

Went ln on Sunday 5pm. Parked by the door. Police were there patrolling. Felt safe. Car was broken into. Police sat and watched it. Said policy is not to approach the criminals. Filed a report. Over $4000 in items gone. DO NOT come here.

we almost skipped this place because of its popularity but it was on a Tuesday night and when we walked in they said reservations? How long is the wait? NO WAIT! Try the local IPA Its great!
Lunch
Our friends dropped us off here. Had a great lunch & couldn’t beat the view even though it was a little overcast. I had fish & chips with delicious homemade coleslaw. My husband had the clam chowder in the San Francisco sourdough bread. The waiter was a little distracted & slow but we really weren’t in a hurry.
