great stop for food and music and watching surf lessons.

By Karon H. |

Specialty drinks out on the patio, sand at your feet and good appetizer food. Music selections change on different days/times and it is good people watching. The wave machine is fun to watch while you eat and you can watch the walkers and roller skaters go by on the boardwalk.

AWESOME

This place it right on the beach and has a very beachy vipe. The bartenders are helpful, the food and drinks are good.

Terrible Service

By 1vacation2 |

We were a little hesitant to eat at this restaurant because of the seedy location, but there aren't many good choices in the area. So, after finding a table next to the boardwalk, we sat and waited for our server. When she finally arrived and took our order, she seemed a little preoccupied and didn't really answer questions that we had about the menu. Eventually our order arrived but was incorrect. I had to walk to the server station to ask for salad dressing which was missing from the side salad that we paid extra for. No one ever brought the dressing so I asked for the salad to be removed from the bill. We were also charged for a bottled water that was supposed to part of the kids meal. I had to walk back to the server station to have that charge removed from the bill too. Overall, this place is a dive with ok views and terrible service. I would imagine that during the summer nights it would be a fun place for college kids to hang out and drink. That's about all it's good for in my opinion.

EXPENSIVE

By 96penny |

Well, first of all the Wave machine was closed down! I think they should have posted this on their website, as we traveled a long way and paid extra to get a room close to Belmont Park, to experience what the Wave House had to offer.............and then when we got there it was down for maintenance. Then 4 of us ate and had 1 or two drinks a peice, and it was over 100 bucks........and we only had hamburgers............no too impressed. Possibly if we could have sat there and watched people on the wave machine to provide some entertainment I might not have been so disappointed.

North Shore Cafe

By Laurie N |

We visit 4 times a year. Favorite thing WAS breakfast on the beach. Now under new ownership. the meau has changed drastically. The food is bad and the prices have increased dramatically, I was very disappointed. It's ashame they went from Superman omlettes to an over abundance of bland potates and unidentifiable foods. We will not be returning to this place for breakfast. :(

Cool place

Nice place to go have a few drinks and watch the wild surfers in a man made pool with waves. Cool to see a few times as it's kinda fun to watch.

Breakfast @ North Shore Cafe

By dragoncharmer |

We visit this place everytime we're in SD. They have a great breakfast. The location is a bit industrial but in the mornings, it's not as bad. The service is okay. Our food always comes out hot, the orders are correct and our drinks are always refilled. The prices are also not that bad for a beach front resturant.

Decent food with awesome atmosphere

Stopped here for a bite to eat while taking a walk along the beach. Food was ok, service was friendly, and prices weren't too bad. Loved sitting at the tables and being able to have my feet in the sand!!

BEAUTIFUL views from every seat!!

By Le Le Q |

Seemelessly walked from the sand, across the bike path directly into seating area!! Very old school beach feel with a huge umbrella for every table. The tables were large could seat 6 easily and each has a propane heater if needed. The tables are set out on the sand with some paved aisles. We ate in a shaded area with our feet in the sand!! Birds, chirping ocean sounds low music from the outdoor bar, gorgeous happy smiling wait staff and the food was healthy and pretty good! I am a beach nut and We loved this place! Ohhh and they have cabanas!!

Overpriced drinks, average staff and bar

By Nessy18 |

The only saving grace for this bar is it's location and view of ocean- otherwise it is very overpriced for canned beer (yeah- no beers even on draft). The crowd is usually ultra tourist and locals do not here due to the atmosphere and drink prices. At the most buy one beer for the view but certainly do not buy any food (that is made in a small trailer)- it matches the drinks: overpriced and lacking any quality. Go to a bar further up on mission blvd (guava beach, the boardwalk) or sandbar across the parking lot. Wavehouse is not recommended.

Fun AND Food!

By Nancy H |

This is a great place to sit and watch other people wipe out in the wave machine while you're watching people on the beach and boardwalk while you're enjoying a drink and/or food. The adults had a happy hour drink while waiting for the kids who were at Belmont Park. Decided to eat there and we were not disappointed. The food is typical...burgers...chicken sandwich, etc. The fries were a big hit with the kids...light and tasty. The Staff was cordial and attentive on our visit, unlike the Staff at the sister restaurant around the corner bearing a similar name. They are connected as the menu is the same, but there is a world of difference between the two. The kids loved the tables in the sand where we had our food at the Wave House. The Wave around the corner is a disaster. Had lunch there the previous day and they could not manage to get the food out at the same time for all five of us. The youngest child (8) asked for a quesidilla with plain cheese and TWICE they brought it back with a spicy cheese that he would not eat. Advised the waiter we would not pay for that and he did take it off the bill. Our waiter was apologetic, but you could tell he really didn't care. He was tipped accordingly. Would go back to Wave House again, but a big NIX to the other Wave establishment.

Great Food, Service Needs Improvement

By Tayfam5 |

The atmosphere is great, fun music, very casual and the food was tasty. You are steps off the beach and just a few blocks down from the roller coaster. The only problem was our server was rude, it appeared she wanted to be anywhere else but there. She didn't give suggestions on beers when asked and the service was slow. She did eventually warm up and show a bit of kindness. There were people dressed nice and those that just walked up from the beach. Bathrooms are in a big trailer building, but very clean and nice. I would eat here again for the food, drinks, atmosphere and location, well worth the money.

Serve was horrible

By KimmieS32 |

We got here order out food waited for over 40 mins and food was deliver incorrectly or we didnt get what we order. By this time our server finally come back and ask did we get our order which we reply no. He tried to fix it 40 mins after the fact & still NOTHING. Dont waste your time unless u have NOTHING to do.

Just stopped in to eat, not to get wet.

We were walking the boardwalk and saw the beach bar. It was lunch time, the view was great, the place looked clean. We were seated on the upper level as I didn't want to be in the sun. I can't comment on the beer prices because we just had soft drinks, but I found the food prices to be reasonable. Hubby had the fish tacos ($10.95) and I had chicken wings ($8.95). I was astonished to receive about 15 wings! I'm used to paying about $1 a wing at other places. The wings were moist, tender and perfectly sauced. So, even though we weren't there for the water park, we were very happy with the quality of the food and service. Our server, Jessica, was very friendly and efficient. We will definitely be back!

Great location

Just next to the boardwalk, nice for a break. Cool atmosphere, music, sun and people surfing on the artificial waves next to the tables! Food is ok, service quite slow but kind.

Great location and service, food could be better..

By 623DBAX |

Title really says it all. This is a GREAT place for people watching; diners, folks on the flow rider, boardwalk walkers.. We walked in and were promptly sat in a "cabana" type booth w/ plenty of room. Our server came by and got out drink order and left some menus. The menu read well, but our food was somewhat disappointing for the prices they're charging. We stayed a while, enjoying the ambience, glad we finally tried the Wave house. Next time, I think we'll stop to rest here, and just enjoy some liquid refreshment, have our lunches elsewhere.

Horrible service but a great view

By Brian B |

Went this evening at sunset, sat down and waited 10 minutes no server. Walked over to a bartender waited another 5 minutes before he would speak to us. Only 7 other people at the bar.

Not what it used to be

By Curtis K |

You feel like you are not really wanted. I think they were having a lot of problems with kids drinking. I don't know, staff is very tight.Prices are high, not the same vibe it once had. I do not think I will be visiting again.

Family lunch

By jklon |

Stopped by this place and have to say that it had all the great real estate but it is brought down by its service. Our wait staff was terrible and it seemed like they were never around. I finally grabbed a random waitress and asked for help and we finally got little help at best. It's sad bc the food and the place is good but the wait staff didn't care about its customers. Very poor experience.

Overpriced food, nice location

By Su926 |

Three of us had lunch there and it was over $50. Two of us had appetizers for lunch, the third had a sandwich. We had sodas and iced tea - no alcohol. The appetizer size of nachos is sufficient for lunch, however it is more like the nachos you'd buy at the baseball game than something that should cost $12. The chips were covered with the orange "nacho cheese" that is found in a can and had some "chili" like you'd put on top of a chili cheese dog. Barely edible and definitely not worth the price. The service was slow, even though it was not busy when we were there. The wave rider wasn't working either. Luckily we sat near the beach and were able to people watch. This would be a fun place to sit and watch people, but the food is overpriced and not good.

Fantastic Sand Filled Fun Filled Beach Bar

By Michael W |

This is a really great bar location on Mission Beach Facing the Pacific Ocean. Came here on our first evening in San Diego and kept returning. You can buy a Bud and sit on High Chairs facing the Pacific and watch the Sun disappearing into the Pacific Ocean. Yon could sit with your feet nestled in the Sand and have a scrumptious burger with fries (make sure you do not ask for Chips or you will get a bag of crisps). You can also play several beach games in the are area including tumbling tower with a stack of wooden bricks. Really cool and relaxed in here where you get no hassle from the staff. Really love the Motto t the main entrance, "TOES In The SAND, DRINKS in the HAND".

It’s Classic California!!!

By Mike C |

Want to experience California life then go no further... this place located on the beach where you can take a seat on the sand, grab a beer and burger, enjoy the lovely sunshine, listen to music, and watch people surfing... does life get any better!!!

Rude & Pushy Cabana Staff

By Tim C |

We got a drink at the bar and then proceeded to attempt to relax in the Cabana area that no one was sitting in. The waitress approached us and made us close our bar tab and start one with her if we wanted to stay in the area. We were told that we need to order food as well. We already had drinks and would have ordered more, as well as food if they weren't so pushy and rude to us. My friend did order another drink and I ordered water to stay hydrated. The waitress slammed the drink on the table in front of me (not my friend who ordered it) and I never received my water in the 30 + minutes we stayed there. Extremely poor customer experience due to the rude staff in the Cabana area. On a positive note, the bar tender that we originally ordered drinks from acted professionally.

Cool beach side hangout

By VegasBling |

Husband and I went here on a Saturday afternoon to have lunch. It was moderately busy, but easy to find a place to sit. Restaurant can be accessed from the beach side or off main street. I had a bottled water and was advised that no "outside" beverages can be brought inside. Had to throw away a perfectly good bottle of water. Once inside, we were immediately approached by a server who asked for our drink order. Two sided Menus are located on the table along with condiments. Breakfast is also served here. Prices are average. We ordered food which arrived in approximately 15 minutes. It was average food, not anything outstandingly memorable. There are several bathrooms easily accessible from the dining area, though stalls are small. Of course, the main attraction are the two wave areas - larger wave and smaller. It's fun to watch surfers in the "wave." Prices are reasonable and staff is friendly and attentive. Busy and popular parking lot is close by. Would definitely return here if in the area again.

Tourist Trap

By Kevin G |

This place has so much potential, but it falls short in almost every category. It definitely caters to tourist, which is fine, but you will find very few locals hanging out here. The food is mediocre, they play rather horrible music and their beer selection is lame(unless you like coors light and corona). The wave pool itself is great, but the rest of the of the place needs help.

Good vibe/bad food

By Jeff B |

I was disappointed by the temperature and taste of the food offered at our event, but enjoyed the environment, music, and being right on the beach.

Don't bother

By Happiness430685 |

G reat people watching. Service so poor you can bring your own and no one would notice. Had the worst sex on the beach drink ever here. Ordered another drink and 30 minutes later...i still don't have it.

Chill and enjoy

Went here for drinks and snacks whilst in Mission Beach. Marvellous outside seating area, right on beach. Great cocktails and people watching. Stunning views and great service. Highly recommended.

Cocktails at the beach!!!

By Desiree W |

I recently went to the Wave House with a couple of my girl friends and had so much fun! We felt like VIP guests in their brand new cabanas and had a beautiful view of the sunset over the ocean. Their specialty cocktails are amazing!!! I had the Wild Lemonade and the Ginger Mule. love mules and the bartender has perfected this recipe. Such a refreshing beverage for a hot summer night! We also tried their signature Mai Tai and that was just delicious. The food was yummy and the atmosphere was exciting! It was the perfect way to end a work week and begin the weekend. I highly recommend going to the Wave House and you just might see me there! :)

Best Beach Bar & More

By Dee |

Location is awesome located The beachside of Belmont park. So clean and great service. Good food. Fun games while you wait for food. Pleasant place to sit and enjoy the beach scene. Seating with fire pits. Great bar.

Wonderful Atmosphere-Great Food

By Dennis S |

My wife and I were taking a walk along the San Diego boardwalk in Pacific Beach and went into the Wave House for lunch. We had a beer, a great blackened grilled cod sandwich and fries, and a large spinach strawberry salad with sesame dressing. While their prices were a bit high for the food, it was delicious. And there’s not a better spot to sit and people watch and watch the ocean waves and the surfers.
