Once you’ve had your cheesesteak fill (1 is enough) head over to Becks for a shrimp po boy they are hands down the best. Fresh, moist bread, great Cajun mayo and hearty shrimp.

My husband and I live South of Baltimore, MD. We will drive 2 hours just to eat here. The Poboys alone are worth the drive. The Jambalaya is delicious and the bread pudding, the absolute best bread pudding I've ever had. If you visit the Reading Terminal Market skip the cheese wiz filled cheesesteaks and get some Cajun food.

A couple year's back I had a layover at the 30th St. train station and stumbled on a place with some really good Cajun food. I never got around to writing a review, alas. Just last week I was at the Reading Terminal Market at the start of another trip and poked around for lunch when, what should I see, a Cajun lunch counter. It turns out the place at 30th St. is also Beck's, but I digress. The food is the real deal. I had Chicken & Shrimp Gumbo, a cornbread side and an Abita soda. The gumbo was rich in flavor and mid-range heat wise. The crew was down-home friendly and efficient. The menu offers a lot of choices, and the prices are very reasonable. And frankly, I enjoyed taking this meal amidst the beautiful chaos of the Reading Market. Both this and the 30th St locale are worth a try.

I’ve eaten here before and it was good but anytime I’m in Philadelphia at Reading Terminal Market I make sure to get their gator sausage. It is spicy and flavorful. This last time I got it to accompany a cheesesteak I bought somewhere else and the gator was the best part of that meal.

I tried the shrimp and andoullie gumbo. We also had the chicken gumbo and a ribeye po'boy. They were donating part of the po'boy proceeds to Hurricane Harvey Relief. Our server was super friendly and their were bar style seats right at the counter. Made for easy conversation. Plenty of variety. Everything was savory with a bit of a kick but not too spicy.

Great food and great service from our waitress, Grace. I like it when a server offers her honest recommendations. I was undecided over 2 choices. Grace immediately jumped in with my choosing the Trainwreck Po Boy. She was correct as that sandwich was very good - plenty of meat, steamed and toasted bun. Juicy. Full of taste and flavor. Grace suggested a side of red beans and rice. Some of the best I’ve ever had. Red beans and rice is usually too bland or just loaded up with spice. This red beans and rice was full of flavor. No need for hot sauce. Grace has a great personality and is sincere. Thumbs up to the quality of the food. Thumbs up to Grace.

Pretty solid Po' Boy sandwich, as this was one of many stops in Reading Terminal and I'm pretty discriminating on cajun food. Well done!

Walking through the Market I heard a local give someone else a recommendation for Beck’s. I’m glad I took him on the recommendation. The service was quick but top notch. Ordered the Trainwreck, which is their version of a cheesesteak sandwich, and it was outstanding. I don’t know much about Cajun food but it all looked good to eat. I may try out breakfast there before this trip is over.

In the middle of Reading Terminal in Philadelphia, is this booth, stand, diner with stools - whatever you want to call it that has the most delicious gumbo and Philly-style sandwich I've ever had and I've been to New Orleans! The cafe is open for breakfast, also. The lady who runs the place was so nice that we spent some time just gabbing with her. The Trainwreck sandwich is so good that we ate ours there, then on our way back to our car after an afternoon at Independence Mall and Hall, we bought 2 more to take back to our hotel for dinner! They have quite a variety of choices on their menu. Enjoy!

What a great breakfast. I had the trainwreck Omelette, which was basically a cheese Omelette with a ton of different meats. My son got the pecan French toast which was very decadent. It also came with these great potatoes, loaded with onions and jalapeno peppers. They even have Café Dumond Coffee!! Next time ill have to get the Beignets

Forget your hotel restaurant. Check out the eateries in nearby Reading Terminal Market -- particularly Beck's. Savory favorites range from gumbo (gator as well as chicken, andouille and shrimp) to muffalettas and vegetarian po' boys.

The only thing I can say is wow, the food here is to die for, no lie. Loved it that's I can really say is that it's breath taking.

I was waiting in line to get a cheese steak bagel, and decided to jump ship to this place. Po Boy breakfast sandwich with Andouille sausage, an order of sweet potato fries, and corn bread. It was fantastic, though, simple. I ordered in the togo line, but then a seat opened up so I walked around to their counter. Goods: 1. Food choices were very good. 2. The creole mayo was the real deal. 3. The sweet potato fries were some of the best I've had. 4. Excellent people watching. Why I didn't give a 5 star: 1. My food took forever. 2. Traveling on business, this is not the place you would want to go dressed well because the seating was stools, they were really close, and the food is messy.

This is in the terminal and has counter-service, however, you can feel a little cramped. The food is great for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and take-out. The Alligator sausage is great and you have to leave room for dessert. Good soups, jambalaya and I am always conflicted as to what to order as everything is so good. I like to be with a friend so we can share. The food is reasonably priced, good and a good size serving- what more can you ask for if you want a fix of Canjun food!

Great Cajun food inside Reading Terminal . The train wreck sandwich is Awesome. The counter service was fast and staff was very friendly.

We stopped into the Reading Station for a quick lunch and stumbled upon Beck's Cajun. We got the fried shrimp platter with red beans and rice. Also got the fried oyster poboy- which was awesome! But the best poboy we got was the train wreck! It's an amped up cajun version of the Philly cheese steak. They even. Threw in a bread pudding- worth the trip on its own.

This place is located within the Reading Terminal Market. They offer some great options...I decided on the chicken/shrimp gumbo over jambalaya and a gator sausage. Most items are readily available in buffet-style containers behind the counter so my food was ready very quickly. With a drink this was just about $20...reasonable given the tourist-heavy market. The food was very good in my opinion. I really enjoyed the gumbo and jambalaya. Also, the gator sausage, was good...better than I expected. I would love to return to try some other items when I am in the area again. There are seated tables throughout the Market. Though i visited on a mid-Sunday afternoon, I was able to find some tables off to the side...not in the central area.

In the center of the Market you can find great Cajun food at Beck's. I had the jambalaya and was not disappointed. The seasoning was spot on, not too hot but good heat to let you know you are eating Cajun.

Beck's has a variety of Cajun favorites that are freshly prepared and well seasoned. It's not too far off what you get in NOLA. It's a nice spot in the Market.

This is a simple, quick serve outlet that offers limited counter seating. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices, and wait to be seated or not seated together. It is still worth the slight inconvenience. The food is tasty , fresh and has that Cajun kick. Portions are just right

We enjoyed the Gumbo & a Short Rib Po Boy at Beck’s Cajun Cafe in the Reading Terminal Market. The counter service is friendly & fast served, with reasonable prices for the amount of great food provided. Highly recommend.

They have some great stuff here. The spice sneaks up on you and I highly recommend the soups and po boys. They were out of Gator when i went but have oysters and loads of other stuff there. They also have some good desserts as well. Limited seating at the bar but you can take away your stuff and sit at one of the many tables around the market.

I was in the mood for something different than a cheesesteak, and this fit the bill. Hard to choose between a po boy, gumbo, muffaletta...all ready by 8 AM. Finally decided on a breakfast po boy with steak, veggies, and bacon, all topped with three eggs and cheese. Also a side of beignets to share with the wife. Sandwich was hot, drippy, and utterly satisfying...so hot I burned my lip. It was still worth it. The beignets were fresh from the fryer, light, and covered with powdered sugar. Excellent choice for a last breakfast in Philadelphia. Like a lot of places in the Terminal, Beck’s has limited seating for counter service. Service was fast and very friendly. I’ll have to go back at some point, just to try the red beans and rice....

Have eaten here twice on layovers for a late lunch and ordered the same thing both times and will order the same on future visits. What was it? It was the creole rice/jambalaya with shrimp/andouille sausage/chicken gumbo poured on top! Absolutely delicious and full of Cajun flavor and a slow building heat. Get the mini corn bread to go with it. The only downside is you either wait on line for to-go orders or hunt a space at their counter. Counter space is for dine-in only and has stools and even a hook underneath to secure a purse or a recent purchase.

Delicious combination of beef, andouille sausage and salami exploding in your mouth. Oh yeah! The bun was light, not too over powering. Had enough to enjoy then and later.

I was craving some beignets so I googled where to get them in Philadelphia. I tried this place. The beignets were not beignets. The powdered sugar was more like rock sugar. $6 for 5 tiny pieces of dried dough that’s tough to eat.

I don't know what type of bread they use for their Po boy's but it was great. It's definitely on the firmer side but it prevents you from eating a soggy sandwich. The creole mayo is so delicious I could've eaten it by itself. Will definitely go back the next time I'm in town.

We stop here every time we visit. The Trainwreck has so much flavor ...cheesesteak, andouille sausage, cheese!! Great alternative to regular Cheesesteak!

I love this place and never pass on a chance to eat here. Their food is as authentic to New Orleans as there can be. Get the Train Wreck Po'Boy and you won't regret it. Made with steak, andouille, salami and cheese with a Cajun aioli. Best sandwich ever made.

Family lunch at Beck's. Between 4 of us we had a Train Wreck sandwich, muffaletta, shrimp poboy and chicken and shrimp gumbo. All was fresh and tasty. Even the breads were good. I would recommend Beck's to anyone who like Cajun flavors.

I never would have thought I’d find New Orleans caliber gumbo in Philadelphia but Beck’s delivered! I was just strolling by checking out the Reading Terminal Market when the lady behind the counter offered a sample. It was fantastic so I had to order a bowl. It’s spicy and full flavored without being overpowering. By far the best thing I’ve eaten at the market. If you get a chance you should definitely check out Beck’s

This is a must try at reading terminal market! The service is great, the food is amazing, and its the best cajun food I've ever had. If you visit reading terminal market I wouldnt skip on Becks cajun!

Young lady who served us could not have been more helpful. She offered samples and service and food were great. Counter seating, but worth it for the gumbo alone. Cheap, good food.

Got the jampalaya and was impressed. Only one shrimp but the jambalaya was tasty and had good spice.

This place is authentic. All the Cajun classics and well worth the visit. I like that is not dumbed down. It’s real long cooked flavours, real sausage, alligator, etc. Great soups and the “train wreck” is the cheese steak improved!!

In the Reading Terminal, bubbling with people and action, the choice is varied but Becks got our attention. They will let you taste their different dishes and take the time to answer your questions. We very much enjoyed discussing with the employees but the dishes were great. we tried different types of gumbos and rices and certain appetisers. All was excellent and we returned 3 more times. Our favorite spot in the terminal. Try sitting at the counter for the experience.

Just had breakfast here 4/2/23 and the food was delicious. Fresh and yummy, cleaned counters to seat and eat your food. Friendly staffs and awesome coffee with refills. No complaints from us. We would definitely eat here again.

We stopped by Reading Terminal Market for a bite before heading to the convention center and we weren't disappointed! With all the choices of places to eat we were hooked on Beck's after sampling their gator gumbo. We took a seat at the counter. Our server Kimber was very friendly and quick with our orders. The shrimp po boy was phenomenal. My friend, who frequented NOLA to visit family, said it was one of the best po boys he had ever eaten. The gator gumbo and fresh brewed iced tea were also exceptional.

My wife and I grabbed lunch here while we were walking through the Reading Terminal Market. It caught me by surprise because you don't find too many places that serve Muffuletta outside of New Orleans. The food is good but if you plan to sit and eat you may have to wait a while because there are very few seats at the bar. The carry out line was crazy, but it was a Saturday and there were 2 major events going on at the Convention Center. If you are looking for a taste of New Orleans, give it a try.

Takeout or small counter service. Stopped in for breakfast. Nice selection. Only downside if you order takeout and a space opens at counter. They won't let you sit.

Very very good mix of cajun food. Spicy, but not too spicy. I had the train wreck which was delicious. Fried Mac and cheese was good, but not as good as other menu items like fried catfish and the etoufee was amazing. In Reading Market withe seating at the counter. A good alternative to cheesesteaks.

I had the fried mac n cheese and the gator gumbo. The outside is what makes the fried mac n cheese so delicious. The gator gumbo was excellent. So so tasty. I wish I was still in Philly, so I could go back to have some.

This small, unassuming booth in the RTM is a culinary godsend. You laugh now, but once you try their fried mac-and-cheese balls, you'll be a convert too. I don't want to say too much and spoil this otherworldly experience, but in a summary: I can't vouch for the other food because I didn't have any, but the mac-and-cheese balls are glorious. Service is very, very friendly. The atmosphere is homey. You'll come in a skeptic, and come out a believer. Have a wonderful day.

Visited here while on a trip to Philadelphia in April 2019. Ordered the fried Mac n cheese and the chicken/andouille gumbo. While the fried Mac n cheese was good, the gumbo was spectacular. The best gumbo I’ve ever tasted!

SHRIMP PO'BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ? I HAD to try one! There is nothing in the whole world better than a New Orleans Shrimp or Crawfish Po'boy but you really should be in New Orleans. This was a decent attempt. Lot's of large tender shrimp (not sure it was fresh). "Dressed" with lettuce, pickles, and mayonnaise on a good Philly Hoagie roll - say WHAT? Nothing wrong with Hoagie rolls a Po'Boy is made on French baguette, known for its crisp crust and fluffy center. Hoagie rolls are much denser. This said, I'll prolly go back, it's closer than NOLA.

For dinner, I stopped at Beck's Cajun Cafe to order their shrimp and crawfish etouffee. It was excellent, and I had the cornbread. Highly recommend.

After reading a review on the fried macaroni and cheese balls I knew this had to be a stop for me. The balls are made to order, 2 balls per order. The dipping sauce served with them is a spicy tomato mixture. Compliments the balls well. Other foods available were etoufee, bread pudding, jumbalya, and gator sausage. If you need Cajun this is a good place to go.

We asked if they had Beignets to sell (4 orders) and we oredered the 4 orders, paid for them and tipped the staff. Immediately after I was tomd they could only do two, was returned the price (cash) of 2 (not the percentage tip though) and we had to patiently wait for about 20 minutes. Highly unorganized and the quality of the beignets was not up to par. Will not go back, nor recommend it. 11/23/2022

What a lot to choose from! I decided on the shrimp and chicken gumbo over jambalaya rice. It was excellent. I also got a cornbread with it which was good for mopping the sauce. I wish I had time to try their other Cajun specialities

I have never been to New Orleans but I have been to enough New Orleans inspired restaurants (including that guy who likes to yell BAM!) to know where to get good creole food. Beck's in The Reading Terminal Market is my favorite. My usual is the Gator Gumbo over Jambalaya (AKA Gator Gumbalya) but the rest of their menu is pretty tasty too. If you find yourself searching for something different while doing your weekly food shopping or needing a break from your touristing (is that a word?) and want a little spice in your life, eat here.

Went for a quick appetizer while at the Reading Terminal Market. Tried the fried mac & cheese balls...Very good. Gotta eat them while they are hot! I don't think you can eat too many of these...but definitely worth sharing with a group!

Happened upon this while wandering through the Reading Terminal Marketplace. Ordered a bowl of the Alligator Gumbo which was spicy, filling and really good. Also shared some fried oysters that were okay. The Gumbo was a hit - worth it just to go for that! Would go back for the Etoufee - tried a tasting which was also very good.

Very delicious, very authentic to Cajun food. It's a great place to stop by if you are in the area. I try to do so every year.

RUDE manager with nose piercing and half dollar sized ear hole. Also, be careful, they dont wear gloves

This smallish food stall in Reading Terminal Market is generally crowded, and with reason; its Cajun offerings are pretty good. The bread for their poboys is tasty and holds up well under the remoulade sauce; no soggy rolls at this place! The remoulade sauce is tasty, too, BTW. Portions are generous; I saw several people who weren't able to finish their sandwich.

One dish that's a must eat! FRIED MAC AND CHEESE!!! We could not stop eating it! Crispy on the outside, with delicious cheesy Mac and cheese on the inside!! Jambalaya was pretty good too!

This was great. Really felt like a home cooked meal done with TLC. I'm pretty sure I got served by the owner who was absolutely delightful. Tried the chicken and sausage over jambalaya. Was a great early meal, i'm getting hungry right now thinking about it. I wish i could go back and try the other offerings. Located in Reading Terminal Market.

Very good gumbo over jambalaya. Hubby loved the Train Wreck po boy. Great service. The sweet potato fries were okay.

One of our favorite places to eat in Philadelphia is Beck's. I'm hooked on the Train Wreck, their NOLA version of the Philadelphia cheesesteak. Today's meal was exceptional. We ordered the Etouffée over jambalaya with toasted cornbread and the fried catfish platter with a side of red beans and rice. Great taste with just the perfect amount of heat. Service, as usual, was friendly and efficient. It's always busy, but it's worth the wait. There's no place that's more fun for lunch than the Reading Terminal, and Beck's is where I go most of the time.

What a hopping place. Only need zydeco music and it would be awesome. Not sure what to eat ask for the sample. For me a shrimp Poboy and side of jambalaya. Great flavor, and memories of the south. Staff were so friendly. Give it a try.

The Redding Market is a foodie heaven on many levels and this Cajun beauty sits in its heart and with luck you can perch on a stool and see you delights being prepared. The bread pudding alone is worth searching it out for....

Beck's is without a doubt my favorite place in Reading Terminal Market. Everyone is friendly, and I have yet to find something on the menu that I didn't like. You can't go wrong here.

First time visitor to reading terminal market on a Saturday. Very busy! This restaurant has about 10-12 seats. I was in a party of 3, originally able to get 2 seats, but 1 other seat opened up in about 5 minutes. Another group of guests were from New Orleans and stated they enjoyed this spot. The waitresses allowed us to sample different gumbo and jambalaya. They convinced me to get the gator soup. I don't usually like spicy, but the flavor was amazing! I also had the fried mac and cheese, which was suggested by online philly magazines, but I wasn't impressed. The chicken and sausage po'boy was great as well. Overall with 2 sides of gumbo, 1 fried Mac and cheese, 1 po-boy. Total was $31. We tipped 10.00 because the waitresses were so patient in explaining the menu and offering samples. 1 person in our party wanted different food and the waitresses even helped her pick out a different place to get food. I will definitely introduce this place to other people.

If the gator gumbo is any indication of quality of food at this cafe, then it is a must go place. The gumbo was outstanding; just hot enough with the right amount of spices, rice, vegetables and of course, alligator. There was plenty of alligator in the dish and it was cooked perfectly. (Gator is an easy meat to over cook) There can be a line for service, but since I was by myself I was able to get a sit at the counter. The staff is friendly and helpful, if you have questions about the menu. I know I will go back before I leave. Good eats.

There are no shortage of good places to eat at the Reading Terminal, but we were glad to choose Beck's. Great beans and rice, sandwiches, and gumbo- would definitely eat there again.

I love Cajun Food so I decided to stop at Beck's Cajun Cafe for lunch. I ordered the Jambalaya and cornbread. The entree was just spicy enough and the cornbread was very tasty. Whenever I am in Philly, I know where to get the best Cajun Food, Beck's Cajun Cafe. Try it yourself.

Came here to get a po boy for breakfast. I wanted an alligator sausage po boy but they ran out and so I got the spicy Andouille sausage. This place has some food ready to go and if you order from there, then there is minimal waiting time. Things like sandwiches need to be made right there and so there was a bit of wait. I got a bit unhappy and impatient since the cook is only making one order at a time. I wasn't happy when I got my food. Then after I sat down and started eating, my first thought was "I forgive you for making me wait". The sandwich was sooooo gooooood. Normally I would only eat half of it but I ate the whole thing and felt full for the whole morning.

While in the Reading Market, we decided to stop at Beck's Cajun Cafe for some bread pudding with Whisky Sauce. This was one of the best that I have tasted outside of New Orleans. The pudding was the right consistency and the sauce tasted great. We just wanted one to share but they had a special, buy one the other is half price. Since we both love bread pudding, we each had our own. Try it for yourself.

This place is in the Reading Terminal Market. It is southern inspired New Orleans style cuisine. Cajun, creole delicious food! Gator gumbo is a must try! Get the Train Wreck po boy for yourself. It is a philly cheesesteak with a southern flare.Andouille sausage with that southern spice! Awesome! Yummy! Yes! Beignet desserts! This place is a must try. Do not skip over this place. Wonderful!

Our first day in Philly we decided we’d hit Reading Terminal Market for a late lunch early dinner. We condensed our list of places we definitely wanted to eat at from all of them LOL to our top 5…Becks was on the list. Unfortunately we were disappointed w/ Becks. After reading all the reviews I was expecting their food to be so much more flavorful. It was kind of a letdown. We got the red beans & rice, it had a nice smoky spicy bite but there was no flavor other than that. I literally had to add 2 packets of salt just so it was somewhat tasty and edible. We had planned to get a few of their muffellettas to take back to the hotel for later but opted not too after having the red beans & rice. Maybe next time we’re in town we’ll come back and give them another try…I just expected Cajun cooking that the red beans & rice would have been so much more. Popeye’s was better than what we had from Becks.

The food here is delicious !!!! I highly recommend the Gator gumbo and corn bread. I will definitely return to try all other menu items.

Quarter split two ways was our dinner on the night flight to Florida. It was so good it almost made up for the thirty two dollars of parking it cost for two hours at Reading Market.

I was in town for a conference and stopped here for lunch because everything else was crazy busy. I enjoyed my sandwich so much I returned the next day to try the gumbo. Both were great and I wouldn’t be afraid to go back again!

A friend and I hit the Reading Terminal Market on a Sunday, at mid-day and it was packed with wall to wall people, many queued up at their favorite food spots waiting to order. With over one hundred merchants offering everything under the sun we found ourselves in a quandary, the choices overwhelming, producing a buyer’s paralysis. So, we opted for one of the few that had seating as a component, Beck’s Cajun Café, with two open stools tucked up against the counter. I ordered a Blackened Chicken Breast Po Boy, served on very good French roll with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and creole mayo and a good-sized cup of the Creole Chicken Corn Chowder (Spinach, celery, carrots, corn, and chicken in a light tomato broth). Jim ordered the same thing, substituting sweet potato fries for the soup. The sandwich was big, with layers of thinly sliced chicken spilling over the top of the bun, making dignified eating a challenge. Having polished off the soup, I found I could only eat half of the sandwich, opting to take the rest back to the hotel for a snack later.

We were greeted by the lovely Joanne. We arrived at 8 on the dot and she immediately shad us sit down. Plenty of choices to choose from. I had the spinach and egg white omlet which comes with sweet potato fries and corn bread for $11. It was delicious! Coffee was good too! It was definitely better eating here than the breakfast they served at the hotel. Will definitely come back! 5 stars for quality and customer service!

My husband had the Gator Gumbo and ate every last bite, which he doesn't typically do, he enjoyed it very much.

Sunday morning breakfast with beignets and Cajun Omelet. Service was a little slow but it was nice to spend time talking to diners sitting at the counter. We were there when not much was open and we lucked out eating here.

Do not ask questions. Go here, sit down, get a Train Wreck. You can thank me later. I have a feeling anything would be good here. One bite from the Train Wreck and my quote made the board for the day.

We settled on the Blacken Chicken Alfredo. It was delicious! It was also very filling so we didn't have room for anything else. For more refined tastes, I noticed alligator and snapping turtle on the menu.

While circling all around inside the crowded Reading Terminal Market on an early Wednesday afternoon, we were offered a small, complimentary sample of the day's gumbo by one of the employees. Very tasty! Out of all the places to get something to eat in the market, we decided to grab one of the limited counter stools (maybe 10 total) here to enjoy lunch. The employee behind the counter was especially friendly, quite helpful and attentive, and had a great sense of humor. I ordered the gumbo ($7.95) with Jambalaya (extra $2.50), Cajun Fries ($4.50), and Sweet Tea ($2.50). The gumbo was delicious and packed with mouth watering spices. If you are on a budget and want to save $2.50, you can just order the gumbo with white rice. But the only real way to go here is to choose to combine jambalaya with the gumbo making for a pretty fierce hybrid Gumbalaya dish. It's a hearty meal so make sure you're hungry. Everything here is good. Their cajun fries come loaded with spices and topped with onions, peppers, and jalapenos. These babies come out of the oven nice and hot which is while you'll want to eat them right away. Spicy food tastes so much better when the temperature is also hot. There were free refills on the tea and they will even get you a to-go cup if you'd like. Items from the sweet menu that I'd like to order next time are the Bread Pudding with homemade whiskey sauce and, of course, the Beignets.

Its small like other folks said and unassuming. But, very good and very spicy! Good food and a great find and glad I bought from them. The market is just crazy overwhelming with all the food choices but try to grab something here. I got the cajun chicken and a side and very good.

Beck’s is located in the Reading Terminal Market. They have many delicious options for breakfast and lunch. They have Coke products. We split the Mac & Cheese balls (3 in the order) and the Alligator Sausage Po Boy which had onions, peppers, and homemade mustard on a soft delicious roll. Everything was great. We had parked in the garage across the street at 12th and Filbert. They offer reduced rates when you get your parking pass validated by buying more than $10 at the Reading Terminal Market. I prefer knowing where I will be able to sit while I am eating which is one of the reasons we chose Beck’s because we could sit at the counter rather than wandering around the market looking for a table. It was great and I would definitely recommend!

Classic Cajun cuisine done well . A great menu and with all the classics on display . Breakfast options as well Until 11:30. A great cup Of coffee and lovely crew working there . Definitely worth a visit and it doesn’t break the bank

everything was absolutely delicious . tried almost everything on the menu . definately will go again

I had the shrimp platter with red beans and rice. Very well done. Red beans and rice was excellent. Large portion of food, reasonably priced. Sat at counter. Staff very helpful and super attentive. I really enjoyed the ambiance.

The catfish po'boy is a great sandwich. The bread pudding is also notable. Nice centrally located stall in the Terminal.

Fantastic Cajun inspired food, staff was very nice and accommodating as our son has severe peanut and tree nut allergies, he had the fried macaroni balls and loved them. The spices were just right, the dishes were very fresh, my wife loved their tomato based soup (forgot the name). Would highly recommend sitting at the counter and tasting some of their specialties, loved and enjoyed it very much.

So many choices from po-boy's to jama. Sit at the counter and enjoy. The food taste authentic. Shrimp and crawfish.

We were full and getting ready to drive back to Pittsburgh, but the nice young man encouraged us to taste the gumbo as we walked past. Needless to say we bought a bunch to go with rice and ate it on our drive back home. It was super delicious. Next time I'll be sure to go for breakfast, they had a breakfast PoBoy that looked so good!

My family had several Philly cheesesteak sandwiches in Philadelphia but none came even close to the train wreck. The cajun andouille and creole mayo gave just the right amount of kick. Also get some fried mac n cheese balls while they make your sandwich, not too much breading...a perfectly satisfying crunch on the outside with creamy macaroni inside. If I was at reading terminal market I would get this again!

Ordered the muffuletta sandwich. Olive spread was good, but not enough meat to successfully offset the salt. Very little meat. I’ve had these sandwiches before and it was stacked about 2 inches with meat, which is needed to deal with the salt from olives. Staff was super friendly.

Didn’t expect to find Louisiana in the middle of downtown Philly, but here we are. I elected for the étouffée – which was excellent – but be warned that if you at trying to build a full combo it’ll end up being a little costly and you’ll probably have too much to eat. Pretty much everyone in my group ate here at least once, and it was really hit or miss. Not because of the quality of the food, but because some found the dishes to be hotter than expected. On that note – its Cajun food – what were you expecting? But because a lot of the dishes are soup or stew based, you don’t really have the option of picking your level of heat. If you’re comfortable with a solid “medium”, and I’m talking Cajun medium and not North American chain restaurant medium, then you’ll be fine. Even with a line at lunch, service was fast for takeout. You can also opt for the full experience of lunch counter seating, but expect a much longer wait.

The Reading Terminal is difficult place to have lunch for the best reasons. Too many good places to choose from. I read a top ten list on the way in, and Beck's Train Wreck was on the list. Po Boy with meat, andouille, salami, cheese and onions. Kind of a NOLA cheese steak and it was excellent! A definite addition to the list.

So many places in the terminal but keep looking, you will find Becks. Tried the oyster platter with red beans and rice. While the oyster were large - not the type typically found in NOLA - they were tasty. The red beans were good as well. They served it with corn bread which was really good. They even serve king cake seasonally but not right now - darn. They also serve beignets. Will have to come back to try those. Get your taste of NOLA cooking here.

Best Po-boys I have had outside of New Orleans! Short Rib was delicious. Friendly service and great food options. Gumbo, Jambalaya, Gator and more.

Love this place! Awesome and authentic New Orleans eats. Great take out too. I always take a mufellata to go. Don't forget to try the corn bread! Mini pans of delight.

After travelling by bus within America for week and living off burgers and hot dogs. Finding a warm meal here was so so good. It was stop 6 on the big bus tour so i found here by chance but i came back next day on my way to the Greyhound bus station ( is a 3 mins walls depending on what side of the greyhound station you walked out from). If I am ever in Philadelphia again. I will be here most definitely

We got jambalaya with gumbo on top one night for dinner here. It was so great that we ran back over from our hotel a few minutes later to get a second helping. A great and well priced find in the Reading Market.

Great fast Cajun food- we liked the gumbo, the etouffe, the alligator sausage and red beans and rice. I really don’t love spicy and some of the dishes were on the spicier side, but I still enjoyed them. They will let you taste before you buy so you know what you are getting into. We have been back a few times and liked it each time.

Yum, yum, yum!! This was so good for breakfast. The sayer on it was delicious and the powdered sugar. I could have gotten whipped cream but chose not too. Came with Cajun fries and I chose bacon. Coffee is the kind found in New Orleans.

Had the steak and egg Poboy. Best 4.95 breakfast I could've imagined. But what really stopped me was the the young lady who said hi as I walked by earlier. I stopped, looked at the menu and came back with 5 friends in tow...it pays to be friendly.

Revisited Beck's Cajun Café in Philadelphia's Famous Terminal Market. I've been longing for the authentic New Orleans Etouffee and various Gumbos served here, since my last visit. The Shrimp Corn Chowder was excellent as well. Enjoyed the friendly staff, and talking NOLA foods with Owner Bill. * Go, Eat and Enjoy!! Ernest

Train wreck. Order it. Savor it. Repeat whenever you are in philly. Other cheese steaks need not apply in my book.

Friendly staff. Made to order. Nice breakfast po'boys. Spicy cajun potatoes. Good portions for the money.

On a weekend visit to Philly, ate here twice. Don't judge me. Lol First trip: I had the trainwreck which is a steak, salami, andouille sausage, cheese and onions po boy AND the jambalaya. Second trip: alligator sausage po boy. All three dishes were amazing. If not for wanting to experience other places to eat in Philly, I would have gone here every day. I'd give this place a 10 if I could.

I was recently in Philly for a conference and of course had to find the best cheese steak sandwich in town. That wound up not going so well but I stumbled upon Becks in the meantime so it all worked out. The first day I had their shrimp po boy. Huge shrimp! It was delicious. The next day I tried the train wreck sandwich and I was blown away. It was sooooo good. Easily one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. So good in fact that i a had a last minute trip come up a few weeks later and I purposely flew into Philly just so I could go get this sandwich again. Which I did, and it was glorious.

We wanted a quick lunch and were staying nearby. The food was fast and it was tasty. Pretty much what one would expect.

We ordered Shrimp and Chicken Gumbo and Blackened chicken pasta. We never did find any shrimps in the Gumbo and hardly any chicken. It was more like a soup and very poor value. The pasta was no better, with about 3 small bits of chicken and rather dry penne pasta. Over rated and just a money making tourist trap. Avoid this one, there are plenty of other places to eat in the market.

Ordered chicken and andouille gumbo - to go. Watched them fill the bowl with what appeared to be just rice, then pour a little gravy on top. Opened it at the table. Only one piece of sausage and one pice of chicken, the rest rice. Waste of $8. Took it back asked for jumbalaya instead. Will I go back? Just fair warning - keep doing this and nobody will come back.

Great tasting food! They let you have samples before ordering. My favourites are Gator Gumbo, Shrimp and Corn Chowder and Jumbalya! The tastes are very strong, but not salty. Very delicious. They creates a wow factor in the food! Must try!!!.

Me and a colleague ate dinner at your establishment today, and wow. What a nice surprise. I had the chicken and shrimp gumbo over jambalaya and it was incredible. My compliments to the chef. Our waitress Grace made our experience even better. Thanks for great food, great service and a great time.

got this last week. everything was so yummy. I had blackened chicken alfredo and my boyfriend had the cat fish po boy. everything was so good, and filling for a good price. definitely coming back to try the gator po boy

On a recommendation from the waiter, I had the Classic Fried Shrimp Po Boy, which was served on french bread with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and creole mayo sauce. The Fried Shrimp was served with grilled corn bread and a choice of red beans and rice, white rice, or cajun fries. The cornbread was outstanding.

The beignets are fabulous here!!! The omelette was phenomenal as well, including the corn bread and sweet potato fries (which I normally don't like!). I couldn't finish everything but know where I'm eating the next time we're in town!

A bit disappointed in the taste of the offerings. The heat of the Cajun cooking was sadly missed. The variety was interesting with a number of " unusual" varieties for those bold enough. Service was efficient and the dishes were prepared after the order was placed.

Stopped at Beck’s in the Reading Terminal Market for lunch. Alligator Jambalaya, Corn bread and Fried Mac n cheese balls. Absolutely great meal. Genuine Cajun. A must for Cajun if you are in Philadelphia. Almost like sitting in New Orleans.

Enjoy beck cajun for lunch. Great red beans & rice , gumbo and jambalaya. NOLA eats and treats here. EAT!

My husband and I thought we couldn't eat another bite at The Market and then we found Beck's! While there was no room in our bellies for a full meal, we stopped by to taste a few samples and were completely enamored with how friendly and fun the whole staff was. They let us try everything. All of the food was fresh and delicious. Some things were spicy, but too overpoweringly so. We wish we could have stayed all day.

I had the muffuletta, very good and reasonably priced. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend.

I ate at Beck's Cajun Café on a lunch break while attending a conference at the Conference center across the street. I ordered the Chicken & Andouille Gumbo and upgraded it to include the Jambalaya rice instead of the white rice it comes with. Boy, this dish is packed with flavor. To me it seemed very authentic (having eaten it on several occasions in New Orleans) and quite delicious. It caused me to break out in just a wee bit of a sweat. I would not hesitate to order it again. The only downside was that the service was a little slow, but then again, it was lunchtime.

Inside the Reading Terminal Market with a full-service counter that has approximately 10 stools. The Breakfast Red Beans and Rice is delicious and comes with a fried egg on top and is chock full of sausage. Their dishes are made fresh and the small cornbread loaf is delightfully sweet. The beignets are served with three in the order and pair nicely with the Hickory coffee. This time we sampled the Gumbo and will be coming back to have it again at our earliest opportunity!!

We had a sample of the gator stew and the shrimp and crawfish etuffie. Decided to eat it over the jumbalia. My mouth was on fire! The food was spicy and hot. When it cooled down it was still spicy but you could taste the flavor. It was really good and I was sweating for a good hour after. The corn bread was the best I ever had.

I was in Philadelphia for a 2 day training class about 2 blocks from the Reading Terminal Market. The first day my colleague and I went here for lunch. We both had the jambalaya bowl and piece of corn bread. Just spicy enough. Delicious. I noticed they served breakfast, so the next morning I tried the bourbon street breakfast. An egg on red beans & rice with corn bread. Great treat! I try to eat here whenever I'm near by.

I ordered the seafood gumbo with white rice. My friend had the same over seasoned rice. You don't need the seasoned rice. I recommend white because the gumbo itself has plenty of flavor and it is spicy so have your water nearby. The cornbread was delicious too. And don't even get me started on the macaroni and cheese balls. Diet busted!

Loved the Cajun fries which were spicy and simply amazing. we also had the spinach sandwich which was okay but could have used more spice and herbs.

I was on a layover on my way to Atlantic City. Was looking for something different to eat and came across this place. The blackened catfish po'boy was my selection. Smaller than i thought, and I wasn't impressed. Didn't have high expectations. It wasn't bad either. First and last time I will have a catfish po'boy. Maybe some of the other selections would be worth a try?

Bourbon street breakfast w Jambalaya— incredibly filling! The jambalaya base with the sauce on top was just incredible. Very rich and tasty. I mixed in the cornbread which was a nice addition as well. Boyfriend got blackened catfish po boy which I had a bite of. Also delicious.

Had the Bourbon Street Breakfast. I assume it’s the sandwiches that give this place such a high rating, because honestly the beans and rice are just average. The flavor was lacking depth and heat (added a lot of their housemade season and still didn’t help much) there was waaay to much rice. At least it was inexpensive! I was underwhelmed enough that I’m not chancing another trip in my short time to see if the sandwiches would change my mind/review.

Classic New Orleans menu reasonably priced and fast. Eat at the counter or get it to go. Jambalaya was just right. Going back for the blackened fish tomorrow!

In Reading Terminal Market. I was at the convention center across the street. I’m always up for Cajun and ‘hit the spot’ etouffee. Nice corn bread and very attentive service. When you’re tired of cheese steaks, visit Beck’s.

Had Brunch on Saturday morning at the counter. Ordered a Crispy Bacon PoBoy. Loved it. Basically a Bacon-Cheese Omelet on a sub roll. Tasty and filling. Service was pretty quick.

It wasn't the worst...I thought the food was average overall. Not too good, not too bad. That's in comparison to the Cajun/Creole found in Louisiana, so maybe the judgement is a lil unfair.

So many choices in Reading Terminal Market and Beck's Cajun is worth the stop. Excellent gumbo over jambalaya and Trainwreck po'boy. The Trainwreck was much like a philly cheese steak. Service was fast and the sitdown lunch counter a plus.

We don't get this food at home so Beck's gave a good chance to try something different. Train Wreck Po Boy was delicious but so many other things looked good too! I will have to come back.

I had the fried shrimp po boy and cajun fries. It's served on a baguette with lettuce, pickles, tomatoes and creole mayo(which I suggest you ask for extra on the side if your a mayo type of person). The shrimp were about medium size, crisp and seasoned just perfect. I believe it was anywhere from 9-12 inches long. The canjun fries weren't too spiced. They were topped with jalapeño slices. No complaints with the taste of the food. There were a lot of other dishes that I would've love to try but my stomach wouldn't have been able to handle all of that. The total cost of my food was about $20. That's kind of pricey for a quick lunch. Also since it's located in Reading Terminal Market, you have to look around for a seat.

NOLA in Philly. Great sandwiches and good breakfast. try a beignet and coffee as you survey the throngs of visitors and locals. Always safe as filled with cops from nearby court at lunch.

It was really hard to settle on a place to grab a late breakfast with all the options that Reading Terminal had to offer. But, I'm happy we decided on Beck's! The ladies behind the counter were so kind and patient, and let my husband I sample the gator gumbo, etouffe and chowder before we decided on our orders. My husband loved his oyster po boy and shrimp and corn chowder. I had the bayou breakfast: white rice topped with gator gumbo, a fried egg, cheese and cornbread. Phenomenal! Highly recommended!

My wife and I shared an order of fried oysters at Beck's counter in the Reading Terminal Market. It came with a choice between rice and beans or plain rice, and it included two pieces of corn bread. It was pretty good, and the portion was adequate in size. We also felt that the price was fair. With so many options at the Terminal Market, we may not return to Beck's, but we will recommend that our friends at least give it a try. The servers were very polite and helpful.

We had lunch at their Reading Terminal Market location and the food was great. We were lucky to get two seats and the service was friendly and fun. Food was great and not pricey, highly recommend!

I have eaten here three times. Once for breakfast when I had a Po Boy breakfast sandwich. This was a good breakfast, filling and well priced. Based on that I returned twice for dinner, once for gumbo and once for étouffée. In both cases I was served a bowl containing a generous portion of rice with a barely minimal scoop of the gumbo or étouffée. These particular selections are not inexpensive and compared to the values you can chose at other stalls in the market these selections are to my mind, not a great.

The inside scope of the Muffuletta sandwich is that the bread albeit a bit stale is simply great. The meat is delicious and the whole composition is very yummy. In spite of being super busy the service comes with a friendly smile

Let me first say, I've been to N.O. and several authentic Cajun Restaurants and this was my first visit here. The service was great and I absolutely loved, loved the bread pudding. The Alligator Gumbo had too much heat for my taste. It was so hot I couldn't taste the other spices I should've been able to taste. If I go again, I'll probably order a po-boy sandwich or something. I'll definately get some more bread pudding.

I love gumbo and they add gator meat in the gumbo here! It tastes so great. I also would like to try the jambalaya and gator sausage but I did not have enough room in my stomach. Next time I will come with an empty stomach!

And this time the remodel is complete! A new counter, real silverware, real bowls and new lighting cap off the remodel with a fresh style. Food is still as great as ever. I had the fried mac and cheese balls with bacon and gator gumbo, a must have if you want a different taste to this comfort food classic.

Great Food. Steak and andouille sausage po boy was amazing along with the gumbo and fries . A little spicy was delicious.

I was with a colleague and it was his pick but I was pretty happy with the food and service. We managed to sit at the counter due to a little beyond the lunch mod scene. My friend got the gumbo and reported it was very good. I got what the very cool waitress recommended (and commented it wasn't on the menu but when she was there you could get it) oyster and shrimp Po' Boy. At first I thought it looked like a lot of roll but it was very good. We also got the sweet tea that was very tasty. I can also recommend the corn bread. It's not quite 'cheap eats', my sandwich, corn bread and sweet tea was almost $20 but worth it.

They have the best Cajun food around. I loved the way the place smelled. Made me miss back home. They had a wide variety of Cajun dishes. Some spicy and some not so much.

Great Cajun food - train wreck is one of the best sandwiches anywhere. Super friendly service too. Bread pudding is solid for dessert

Stopped in with a friend from out of town and tried the Shrimp PO 'Boy and the Blackened catfish Po' Boy! We also shared a bowl of Chicken & Andouille Gumbo with White Rice. I will say that since I won't be back in New Orleans soon as far as I know..I will be back here and I am so glad I came. From what I am told Chef Beck brings as many ingredients he can from the Big Easy. Being in the location in Louisiana always will be better but if you can't make it then when in Philly....check out Becks! And this is not toned down spice for the bland mouthed tourists. It is actually quite good! Especially considering you are in a Cheese steak and Scrapple town! This is as authentic an American food town as there is!

Delighted to get stools so we could sit and enjoy a delicious Cajun lunch. Staff was efficient and helpful. The fried shrimp platter was exceptional with some delicious grilled cornbread. My husband had blackened catfish and was equally pleased. Lemonade tastes homemade and is not too sweet.

This cafe in Reading terminal market in Philadelphia has the best bread pudding I've had ever. I've had bread pudding in a lot of cities and this one is one of the best. I work in Philadelphia so I get to go to restuaunts in and around the city for lunch and this one is one of the regulars we go to for all eats related to New Orleans. My friends sometimes will try different foods but I will always have bread pudding with entree on the side. ;)

Delicious, quick food, friendly staff. I loved their jambalaya, I kept going back for more. This is a very small business but do a good job in the quality of their food

Attending a convention, this eatery in the Reading Terminal is a gem. Loved the food. Their Cajun cuisine is all well prepared and oh so good. At there twice in the matter of several days, each time totally enjoying the tasty dishes. Jambalaya and gumbo were both great. Servers were down to earth people with personality. A pleasure to chat with. Thanks!

With so many choices in the terminal, making a decision can be tough. We decided on Beck's which turned out to be a fantastic choice. We had the shrimp Po'boy, deep fried Mac'nCheese and the bread pudding. All delicious. Special shout out to Margaret who was awesome.

The place is inside the busy Reading Terminal Market. The stand is on a corner and myself and other folks not familiar with the place had to figure out where you order and where you stand once you ordered since there is no signs or markings to indicate the whole ordering process. I got the highly touted "trainwreck" sandwich. It cost $10.75 and was worth $8.50 tops. I also got an order of deep fried mac and cheese balls, with three golf ball size for about $5. They were worth $3.50. The trainwreck I received is not nearly as large as other photos you find on tripadvisor - which you will see were posted by Beck's themselves and not customers. The sandwich roll was ok, but there was not enough content. My first thought when handed the sandwich was "this thing feels light." The meats in the sandwich are completely over whelmed by the cajun mayo which is bathing the sandwich. They could be using Alpo dog food meat for all you know because all you taste is the cajun mayo. It was good or ok at best, nothing better. The mac and cheese balls were ok, with a few meager bacon pieces mixed in with the balls. They should be served with some kind of Cajun dipping sauce instead of just plain. My son got an alligator po'boy. The meat was in a sausage form, different than the expected and usual deep fried and breaded meat on a po'boy. It cost $8.95 and meat content was ok. This sandwich was killed by way too many jalapeno's. It should have been called a jalapeno po'boy. So, maybe some other items at this place rate higher, but the three items I mentioned only rate as average - which means good but not nearly as great as advertised.

This is just a small place (A counter, really) nestled in the famous Reading Terminal Market but the food packed in this modest joint is the best New Orleans food I've had outside the Big Easy. The traditional fare is all there...Po' Boys, Gumbo, Jambalaya, soups, Muffalettas etc. Also, a great New Orleans breakfast made up of an egg, cheese, andouille sausage, onions, celery and red beans. Fresh-made beignets were also on tap. All served up by a skilled and personable waitress. Usually, I find Po' Boys to be a little disappointing (Even in New Orleans) but this fried shrimp on great crusted french bread with tomatoes, pickles, creole mayonnaise and lettuce was just off the charts. And there were plenty of choices on the Po' Boys including fried oysters (Next seat over had that), alligator and others. Who would have expected this kind of quality so far from Louisiana?

While staying at the Marriott across the street, I visited Beck's for breakfast. I had a breakfast po boy. Wow, that was tasty. Eggs/bacon/cheese. All for $4.75. As the stand was not busy, I also had a nice conversation with the friendly waitress.

Our family was on a bit of a self-made food tour through Reading Terminal, and we made a stop at Beck's for the gator gumbo. It was super flavorful, and the small side portion is just the right size to get a taste while keeping room in your tummy to try more. Would definitely visit again!

I have enjoyed the Gumbo, but the Muffaletta is my favorite sandwich - lunch meats, salami, ham, cheeses, olive relish all squooshed together inside of a fabulous round roll, brushed with olive oil. Wow.

While I was at the Reading Market, I stopped and had a cup of shrimp bisque. It was very good, and may have been a special, because I don't see it on their standard menu.

This restaurant is located in the Reading Terminal Market. If you like these kinds of markets; and hear I'm thinking about St. George's Market in Belfast (Northern Ireland), Oxford's Covered Market (England) and Minneapolis's Midtown Global Market; then you are going to love the atmosphere at Beck's Cajun Cafe. Wonderful aromas of diverse cuisines and many casual dining options, this space is mesmerizing and intoxicating. I had a Jambalaya topped with chicken and shrimp gumbo. The server told me it would be spicy, but since I love spicy food, I found it only moderately spicy. It was superb, exactly what I needed. My wife had a bacon and cheese omelette, which she says was delicious. Overall, this is an excellent restaurant for casual lunch dining.

Ordering is simple, simple menu with employees paying attention and wanting your order. The seating can be difficult if busy but its quite a big all around. Beck's its kind of small but they pack a lot of good food. I myself went with the TrainWreck sandwich which is Steak, Salami, Andouille Sausage, Cheese and Onions. Personally I went without onions but its all about you. Its cajun food so you'll have the choices like jumbalaya, po boys, gumbo etc.. There are many choices inside that building but based on my experience I went with the best choice. I spent about $16 with a drink and cajun fries. Took about 10 min to get my food. Try it!

Just eat here. That's the short and sweet of it. You will not be disappointed! We ate here twice within 24 hours! Coffee from Cafe du Monde....HALLELUJAH! (I may have had 3 or more cups of this fantastic coffee). Beignets that were powdered sugar pillow perfections! Jambalaya with just the right amount of heat! And the Fried Mac N Cheese balls that will make you see stars! Any time I'm in Philly I will be swinging by Beck's! Also, cannot rave enough about the service! Our waitress was fantastic!

As a native of New Orleans, Beck's is my go to place for a real muffelatta. Jambalaya is great. I have to force myself to limit visits or balloon up to be huge!
Disappointing
When I see a place that serves gumbo, I'm going to try it. Not the best, so if you must try it just take the free sample. The cheesy shrimp and grits were terrible - the grits were a flavorless overcooked glop. There are many choices in RTM. Pick another place to eat.
