One of the best Indian restaurants in Seattle

By drpaulSeattle |

The Seattle area has lots of Indian restaurants, thanks in part to a sizable Indian population fueled by the large tech industries in the area (Microsoft, etc.). Some are very good, some mediocre. This is my favorite ethnic food, so I'm a bit particular. Bengal Tiger is a great spot in the Roosevelt neighborhood of Seattle. There are at least four Indian restaurants within a mile radius. This is the one I keep coming back to. They recently moved, but just across the street, expanding their eating area as well as expanding and improving their kitchen. It's a great place for lunch, with their outstanding buffet. They have a more creative selection than many similar buffets, including plenty of vegetarian options and the expected butter chicken.Fresh nan, salads, condiments, desserts. All very tasty and well prepared It's also a great lunch value for the price - about eight bucks for s delicious all-you-can-eat lunch buffet. If you're visiting Seattle, try this as well as exploring the interesting Roosevelt neighborhood. If you live in the area, you definitely should put Bengal Tiger on your list!

Very attentive service and very good food, will try again to see if merits "excellent"

By Ilmar R |

We were very impressed by the attentiveness and the pacing of the service (it was early evening, so no big challenge). The chef came by, enquired asked how we liked everything, personally I consider this a very good sign — in fact de rigeur for a good restaurant. For the appetizer we had the assortment (samosas, tikkas, etc,) with 3 chutneys and it was very nice, 4/5. We were also served a cup of tasty lentil soup. Our main courses were the butter chicken — absolutely delicious, 5/5 and the chef's tandoori — a very nice selection. I would have preferred the meat to be a bit less done but my companion thought it was great, so 4.5/5. The seasoning for all of the dishes was very nicely balanced, nothing dominated. We also liked the spinach stuffed naan and Indian IPA was a good accompaniment. The portions were quite generous, each could easily serve two and unfortunately there was no room left for dessert. But we had quite a doggie bag (nicely packed) to take home and enjoy the next day. The atmosphere is very functional, nothing to write home about, but we came for the food and it exceeded expectations, as did the service. Will definitely try again, if consistent, would raise rating to excellent.

I love this place. Get anything with "mango-walla" and you'll be in heaven!

Mutton Biryani Review

By Sangeeta D |

The chicken tikka masala and naan was heavenly, but the mutton biryani was like some one mixed regular rice with mutton curry. Do not order Biriyani at all rather get some samosas or gulabjamun.

Great service!

I'm not a "foodie",but my friends are. All meat is Halal. They are Muslim,I am not. If you order your food HOT,it will be! 1-5 scale. I had lamb briani and it was OK,the meat was spiced a little weird and a bit chewy. Excellent rice! They have a full bar and I had a Taj Mahal lager beer: Excellent! Our wait person served us all some complimentary soup that was great! I took home the rice and left the briani. Atmosphere is quiet, dimly lit and pleasant. I forgot to use my Valpak coupon that would have worked.

Rather good Indian food here in Seattle, which is a very rare thing indeed!

Good Indian lunch place in a pinch

By Mary C |

Typical Indian buffet, good food, reasonable prices. Interesting vegetables and good variety. Average but satisfying. They can't all be great, but certainly not disappointing.

Great indian food, great hospitality

By rajbk |

Cheff Mohammed Udin is awesome. The food he makes and his hospitality are out of this world. He suggested I try the Lamb Bhuna. It was cooked to perfection and very tasty. I also made a to go order of Lamb Biriyani and Chilli Madras Chicken. The lamb and Chicken were made to order (spicy) and very soft. Excellent restaurant. Highly recommended.

A hidden gem

By Erika L |

Bengal Tiger is remarkable both for its food and customer service. We went for the third time this weekend and we were treated like old regulars. The chef, Mohammed, came out to say hello and had a complimentary mango ice cream sent to our table. Everything we've ordered has been excellent, some based on tips from other reviewers. This is a place that excels in unusual, delicious sauces, which you can build on according to your tastes. Bhuna, the chef's favorite, is an onion-based curry that we had with chicken and now order every time. The Mango Wala with halibut is absolutely addictive. Garlic Wala's good too but I liked the mango better. The staff raved about the Saag spinach dish and the Butter Chicken, which were both very good. The spinach naan was fantastic, the onion/cilantro naan was ok. This is such an extensive, interesting menu and so affordable, we will go back again and again to learn and explore real Indian food.

Mohammed Udin is an artist! The samosas are great, large and a pretty spicy, maybe too filling if you're going to have a full dinner. Or try the Onion Badji appitizer, crispy fried onion wedges in chickpea batter--slightly sweet and savory. They make their own chutneys and the tamarind chutney (the dark one) is especially devine. Oh, the chicken mango wallah is the best! We also love the potato dumplings and the garlic zuchinni too. What they do really well here is the sauses. They are velvety and flavorful. The meat is always high quality too. The staff is shy, but really friendly and efficient. Mohammed is a sweetheart and gets to know his regulars. Sometimes he'll just whip up a special dish for you! One time he made a salmon dish for us that was the most beautiful salmon I've ever eaten. It is always a great pleasure to come to the Bengal Tiger.

OK - a lot of spice

By Vidoqo |

The entrees in our party tended on the spicy side, even when ordered mild. The staff was very friendly. Sitar player was a treat. My chicken Korma curry was kind of flat, however. Overall pleasant but nothing amazing.

Superb!

We have never had such good Indian food! We tried a wide variety of dishes, and were simply wowed by every one. They were the most authentic food we've had. LOVED the mango mousse!

Always excellent

I've been here several times and last time was with a friend who had returned from living in Bangladesh for 20yrs, so knew authentic Indian food when she tasted it. She loved this place.

Excellent food, generous portions

By Semibum |

This restaurant was named #1 in its category in the King5 Best in Western Washington for 2011. Being a lover of good Indian food, we had to try it. Although we have not tried all Indian restaurants in the region, Bengal Tiger surely is among the best. The portions were very generous; 2 portions made 4 servings. The Tikka Saag en Chef’s Tandoori were very tasty and the veggies with the tandoori were wonderful. The naans were good but not exceptionally so. Hint: The 3-out-of-5 hotness was plenty spicy and we like our food hot. Unless you like yours VERY hot, be forewarned when ordering a 4 or higher! All in, we will definitely go back.

Delicious Indian Food! Lovely clean restaurant.

By VacationerSeattle |

Dinner with friends, had not been to this new location. Clean, lovely, generous portions of food. All good! The salad presentations were pretty and large. We were all brought a cup of vegetarian soup that was excellent and complimentary to start. The owner came up and chatted with us at the end of our meal and was so nice. Definitely will start going back again more frequently.

Great food and excellent service!

By World horse adventurer |

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Bengal Tiger Restaurant. The wait staff bent over backwards to make sure our service was perfect. The meal was delicious and there was plenty of it! We will definitely go back!

Consistently delicious!

Always great service - eat here about 3-4 times per month. Service is attentive and friendly. I have tried a variety of their dishes and have never been disappointed! Favorite Indian restaurant in Seattle city limits

Amazing buffet. Especially veg and mutton.

By Megha G |

Loved the ambience and the food. Couldn't find much of starter, but the main course was super yummy.

Great Indian Food

By gwendolyn214 |

I have eaten at the Bengal Tiger many, many times. As a vegetarian Indian food is a frequent choice and always great at the Bengal. The heat can go up pretty far (they have you chose a 1-5) so if you don't like fire stop before 5. I don't like buffets so have been there only at dinner. The veggie appetizer plate is great to share, the soup is included with your dinner and the whole thing rocks. My meat eating companions rave about the butter chicken or the tandoori chops, I am a big fan of aloo ghobi.

By tarsier206 |

Best Indian food I've had in Seattle. Unlike most Indian places in Seattle, they don't make their dishes sweet...they are not afraid of using spices.

Good deal for a quick lunch spot.

By weekendfurlough |

If you are hungry for some solid Indian food for lunch, look here. It is a buffet with many options for vegetarians as well. The spices are just right for a rainy day pick me up.

Excellent Indian food and friendly welcoming service

By Richard C |

Informal and friendly Indian restaurant with Punjabi food that is really good! Great for takeout or eating in, or snacking at the bar. We ordered to take out and had a beer at the bar, and Chef Mohammed kept bringing us great snacks to enjoy while our food was being cooked -- great place for a pleasant and tasty meal.

If you are looking for great Indian Food, then look no further. Mohammed is an incredible cook and a gracious owner. My husband and I ate at the Bengal Tiger at least once a week but then moved to Tacoma. We now drive up to Green Lake at least one time a month because we miss Mohammed and his cooking. I crave his Chicken Tikka Masala, Eggplant Barta, Prawns Garlic Walla and Naan. This tucked away restaurant has won Best Indian Food in the Seattle PI for 2 years running and there are countless reasons why.

Best in Seattle

By 495PGT495 |

This is the best Indian food in Seattle, easily. The buffet is fantastic, the space is modern and classy, and the people that work there are nice. There are a couple of ridiculous bad reviews on here that make no sense. Like the guy posting from India, or the guy who claimed he visited in 2015 but didnt post a review until 2016. Some of them seem to be from people working for other Indian places, trying to drive business away from Bengal Tiger, the best Indian food in Seattle.

Finally, the BEST Indian food.

By searchingforbest |

I've tried Indian food in the past and have never liked it. Went to Bengal Tiger with a friend for their lunch buffet one day. While enjoying my food, I was talking about coming back for my next trip. The food was so fresh and tasty. Service was good and attentive.

Good Buffet

By afaraa |

Several of my friends and I were having lunch. One of us is a vegetarian and we had gone to Chinatown the last 4 times and we wanted to try somewhere else. Was in the Roosevelt neighborhood so tried the luncheon buffet at Bengal Tiger. Have enjoyed many Indian buffets around Microsoft so wanted to compare with the luncheon buffets out of the Bellevue/Redmond area. This buffet is perfectly respectable. No restaurant does everything ideally and the Bengal Tiger is not perfect but the food was good, the ambiance was lovely, the service was prompt and the price was reasonable. I would have put more butter in the rice but it was still very tender and well seasoned. The Tandoori chicken was a little dry but still tasty. The Spinach Paneer was very good as was the Eggplant. I really love both dishes and have had not-as-well-done versions of them at other restaurants. The Lamb stew was also very good. And the Mango Pudding is better than mine so I will just have to change my recipe. Overall a pleasant lunch was had by all and we will certainly return.

Amazing food!!

Most delicious Indian food, hands down! The prices were decent and the service was amazing.

Excellent Indian Restaurant

By PIL-1 |

We were three hungry individuals and ordered a variety of main dishes, which were all excellent; the chef's tandoori was varied, well done and can easily serve two, the eggplants delicious, as was the korma wala. The ambience was inviting, the service prompt and very friendly. Highly recommended

Stale, mild and errors

By TomC |

We've enjoyed several Indian restaurants down the street and decided to try this one on an early Wednesday evening. We order two beers. The server arrived with two frosted glasses and one large beer bottle. He said they were out the regular size bottles and the big bottle was less expensive. We order and asked for medium spiced servings. For starters we were served very stale Pappadum. We asked for fresh Pappadum which was not much better. The Mulligatawny soup was very mildly spiced and didn’t impress. The roasted eggplant was tasty and had noticeable heat but was again very mildly spiced. The rice mix had clumps of white rice, not very appetizing. The bill charged us for the two beer bottles, not the less expensive larger bottle. In the future we’ll stick with our favorite nearby restaurants.

One of the best

By Sam S |

I love Indian food and I have eaten at many restaurants in Seattle. Bengal Tiger is hands down one of the BEST. Top 3! The food is delicious, warming, spicy (but not too spicy!), diverse and full of flavor. There is a great vegetarian and vegan menu- the dal in particular is just devine. The service is always excellent. Overall summary: visit the tiger!

Very bad buffet but nice ala carte

By Ravi Krishna P |

I been here couple of times for lunch buffet. Not good starters. Not so much for vegetarians for sure. They have sea food options which i never had because of the smell. Overall they can do lot better. Not to miss judge. When you go for ala carte you get nice tatse food. Again not as cheap as you would think.

Exceptional Service

By Chestnutmash |

We visited the Bangal Tiger from out of town for dinner while in Seattle awaiting a flight out the next day. We ordered curries and a lamb dish. To our very pleasant surprise and unprompted, our server brought out a new bowl of curry after having noticed one of our sons was picking out all the celantro from his bowl of curry (the new bowl was free of cenlantro). The food was very good and flavorful. The prices were reasonable, and we thought it was a good value for the quality. But the restaurant was in a rough looking neighborhood and only street parking is available. The food and exceptional service makes the Bangal Tiger worth the effort to fine this restaurant.

Delicious Indian Fare

By mangomon1 |

Four of us at dinner, four excellent meals. From appetizer to main course, every dish was well prepared, attractively presented and positively delicious. The service was fair to good, and the atmosphere not really Indian - more like a restaurant in a mall. However, go for the food and you will not be disappoined.

Loved their buffet food decided to go back for dinner with some friends. Turned out disappointed with food and service.

By searchingforbest |

I've wrote a great review when I went to Bengal Tiger for their Sunday buffet so I decided to invite a few friends for a Friday night dinner. The major disappointment was the lack of service. A few of our dishes came luke warm and the lamb was terrible. It was just not edible. I wouldn't come back for dinner but willing to give this restaurant another try, for their buffet only.

One of the best Indian food restaurants in the USA

By MachinistCalifornia |

I have gone to many "Indian" restaurants in the USA and the UK, and The Bengal Tiger is one of the best! I ate there once to twice a month for the 2 and 1/2 years that I was living in Seattle and never had a bad experience. I took many business visitors, family and friends there and they all raved about the food and the friendly service. Go, Mohamed!

Love the Buffet

By MK |

This restaurant has the best lunch buffet . It is mostly Indian food but they have other items on the menu as well. The Buffet is reasonably priced and very good quality.

No longer a hole in the wall

By Chestnutmash |

We visited the Bengal Tiger a few years ago when they were in the smaller storefront across the street. In our recent visit, we found they've moved, expanded, and have gone upscale. The food was just as good as we remembered, but the homey Indian atmosphere has been replaced with a more modern and upscale decor complete with a full bar. The portion sizes were not as generous as before. The service was good, but not great. We'll likely return for the food, but it's almost like going to a chain restaurant.

Seattle's Best Indian Food

By normee |

Bengal Tiger serves great tasting food in a neighborhood setting. Its consistent, clean and we are pleased every time we go back. Curries and Walas are tasty, roast chicken and pork are cosmic.

Not really much different from other Indian restarants

By vamsally |

We tasted variety of dishes and well, very typical Indian food. I don't think there is anything specially good that can be recommended. The food wasn't bad, but wasn't greatest either.

Good but slow and pricey

By Melyssa E |

The food was tasty - the kids shared butter chicken curry, hubby had chicken tikka masala, I had saag paneer and we had samosas as a starter. But we waited over 40 min for the curries and with only one alcoholic drink per adult, our tab was $78! Not really family friendly at dinner time. We will keep this one in the repertoire only for the lunchtime buffet.

Flavorful Indian Cuisine

By Joan C |

We had lunch here yesterday. They are just starting up indoor dining again and are struggling, however our meal was nice. We started with papadam, which came with three different chutneys, each one very different from the others and quite flavorful. I ordered Tikka Saag, medium heat. The dish was flavorful and fresh. My partner ordered a rich, creamy lamb curry that he enjoyed very much. Our dishes came with basmati rice. We both had extra to take home. The chef came out as we were finishing our meal to thank us and ask for feedback about the meal, which I found to be very considerate. They have a lunch special menu which is very reasonably priced.

Great spot

By wendy r |

Dinner at Bengal Tiger never disappoints me. The atmosphere is pleasant and conducive to conversations. The soups are tasty and the spinach stuffed nann is one my favorite things! Many great vegetarian dishes and meat eaters seem to love the lamb chops tandoori.

Lunch special tikka masala 😛

Delicious, prepared and served by chef Muhammad. Affordable and fast service. DiNing in is wonderful. Get away from fast food and think outside the box. What a treat!

Reliable spot for Indian food in the U District

By mcmash |

Over the years we have eaten at the Bengal Tiger many times and it has always been reliably good. We ate there recently after a 2year hiatus and we're pleased to find it is still a good choice for Indian food in our neighborhood. Nice atmosphere, good service, good food. The rack of lamb earned raves from our friends, my butter chicken was great, and my husband loved his tandoori. There are several types of naan, all good, but avoid the wine and for for beer if you want alcohol.

Excellent Indian Cuisine

By Joan K |

What a lovely restaurant in which to enjoy Indian food. We started with the vegetarian platter that was yummy. We had three vegetarian dishes and one with prawns. All were great. The service was excellent and we will go back again when we visit Seattle.

If you like spicy food

By Reg1956 |

It was our first time at an Indian restaurant. There's plenty of food served and the service is excellent. We needed much help to decide what to order and which level of curry to get with the entree. The chef and server helped us make the right call based on our selected entree and it was delicious. We will probably go again and split an entree, unless we want left-overs again.

Taste food ever I had.

Best butter chicken and lam somosa I had in my life at Bengal Tiger east India.WA

Less professional and typical Indian restaurant food

By Muntasir ALAM |

The restaurant is located in a nice place. The staffs are not professional at all. I guess they need training on the matter. I ordered lamb biriyani. Too much oily and type of species do not match with original biriyani. I'm from Bangladesh and have tasted diverse types of biriyani in my country. Every food has its own character so it should be preserved when serving with traditional title.

nice bengali fare

By sameer g |

some unique dishes here... in addition to the typical indian fare. service is great and they have a dinner buffet once a month that's fantastic

Best Lunch Buffet

By dajayc |

I went there recently for the lunch buffet. The restaurant has been remodled, and the buffet seems to have been beefed up as well. There were plenty of salad choices, along with naan, rice, and over 8 different dishes to choose from (butter chicken, tandori chicken, lamb achar, saag paneer, and chana just to name a few), and two dessert choices (gulab jamin, and rice pudding). All of this for under $9.00. Excellent server/chef during the lunch buffet. Its a must.

Great food and service

We discovered Bengal Tiger a few months ago and it's where we go for Indian Food now. The place is quiet and comfortable, with good service and yummy food.

Bad just plain vanilla poor food and service

By P D |

We went there for lunch one fine day and ordered our food despite the buffet which looked deprived and not worthy. The ordered food was no where near to the authentic taste it should be the amount of fresh cream on all curries were too much to handle and veggies all over the platter. The lamb was to tough to be edible. I had high expectations from this restaurant but honestly it was an EPIC DISAPPOINTMENT. People go out to have great food and this one is just horrible tasting food that can't be eaten. No thanks would never go there again or ever recommend.

Great food, good selection

Food was good, service was excellent. Nice atmosphere - clean and well managed. Would definitely recommend. Best dish was the chicken tikka.

Wonderful Indian cuisine

By littleleers |

Feb 5th, 2009 Gee, I thought I disliked Indian food. That was....until I ate today at the Bengal Tiger! Their food is AWESOME! The seasonings and taste points mingle together and dance about your taste buds. I don't even know the names yet of all the different dishes. The lunch buffet is just about $10.00 and worth it! I will be back for sure, again and again. Yum. I now know why people have reason to love Indian cuisine! The wait staff are wonderfully kind, courteous, and helpful.

had many meals. awesome food

By AvinashTiwari |

I was introduced to this restaurant by moonshine who has been going there since she was 10-11 years old. The food is great and we enjoyed lamb and paneer dishes. We have had atlesast 20 meals in 2011-12
