It was okay nothing really extraordinary. The “chef” took about an hour to get to our table but the manager came to us and offered us a discount due the delay. Adding on, for the price you pay for the food it’s not all that great.

Food was good. The waitress was amazing. Very attentive and interactive with my entire family. I would definitely recommend.

We had the most rudest guy cooking out food ever. I will definitely never at here again. I simply asked him to move my rice over to another area of the grill since I’m a vegetarian away from the chicken. He just blows up for no reason saying it’s all touching. We’re are all looking at it, it wasn’t touching. He was just rude for no reason. My cousin then asked for the extra egg that she requested in her rice and he slams the rice back out of the bowl and adds the extra egg. Never again.

Ugh, this place has gotten run-down. I can tell it was very nice at one point, currently I cannot understand how or why anyone who does valet parking would eat here. I picked up a doordash order here and then went to the bar for a drink. The staff seemed very disorganized and flustered, when I looked into the kitchen the floor was very dirty, there are scuffs, marks, and cobwebs everywhere, there’s a musty smell emanating from the carpets and near trash cans there are horrible rotten-egg and sour milk odors. At the bar, after I had already ordered, I witnessed the bartender attempt to pass off a cup caked in dirt as acceptable, requiring the waiter to urge him to wash it. He was a very nice guy, and let me drink the remnants of a pina colada. but seemed confused and said many strange things to the staff and dropped items several times. I appreciate the fact that they accommodated my strange request of taking a drink to-go; however, I only asked for this because I felt uncomfortable in the restaurant. It was very loud and chaotic, and the staff was somewhat unprofessional looking, each member wearing their own variation on the all-black theme behind their aprons. They often didn’t know where to find items, scrambling around, squinting at order cards, bumping into eachother. Gnats and flies buzzed around as well. Overall, I wanted to like this place but I just couldn’t get over the chaotic, grimy atmosphere. This place just needs a bit of a refresh

We have enjoyed Benihana for years. Unfortunately, we are now witnessing the ongoing decline of what was once a great dinner spot with a show. We are now faced with "Chefs" that are about as skilled as my husband is at cooking dinner. This is not a compliment. Tonight, our chef spoke very little English, had NO knife skills and served a dinner I could have purchased at a Chinese restaurant in any mall in the U.S. - for a fraction of the price. It's just sad to see a spot that brought many smiles to diners of all ages become a restaurant that serves tired food to disillusioned diners.

I like to eat at Benihana when we can, love the show, the food and the people you meet. If you have been to one then you know, The food and Fried Rice is the best, wish they gave you more, but for 2.50 you get extra bowl, Man this rice is good and the sauces excellent. I'll be back

As a huge Benihana fan, I hate to say that the restaurant no longer holds the same magic. I went here on Valentine's Day with my husband and our table was far more squished with people than it should've been. Bumping elbows and feet with strangers is not very pleasant. Several people at our table shared the same sentiment and we tried to make the best of what little room we had. As far as the food, I noticed that the portions have gone down. What used to be generous helpings of shrimp and veggie appetizers now seems to be the bare minimum. The chef was entertaining and friendly, but severely overcooked the steak despite the fact that it was ordered medium. The clientele has also gone downhill, and I suspect many people who want a pleasant dining experience for $100+ are likely going elsewhere. I can't say that I blame them. The mustard sauce provided was, as always, delicious. I just don't think it'll be enough to justify going back. Farewell, Benihana.

The waiter was friendly. The place is very large and fills up for diner. Food was "good" for a chain restaurant but you can do better at many local Japanese style places.

The food was good , the service was not as friendly as in the past. The atmosphere needs to be updated. But it is still worth the cost. This is the best of Benihana's locations

Good Food, good service! Ate dinner with my husband and sister. Enjoyed a well trained and engaging chef!

Nothing great about the food and worst service Jinnah is far better visited a doctor in this area and entered for lunch nothing was good and wasted money

Best food to eat for a dinner date or any night out on the town. Service is exceptional. Thank you best night out

I have always have a pleasant experience. ..its gets better as I go. Food and drinks are great....easy to meet new people as well....very entertaining for the kids

Arrived at the restaurant and spotted a place to park on the street. I was ready to parallel park and the attendant came out and advised me the spot was for valet. This was the first step in the wrong direction as I dont see why valet seems to want to take over public parking spaces. We went in and the room we were sat in was fairly small and the tables really small for all of the dinner ware you are given. Other than that it was average Hibachi fare and the food was ok. This place is ridiculously overpriced but if youre there for an occasion it can be quite entertaining.

the table was ok - like in any other benihana - food was good - only thing i had a peace of porcelain in my rice and almost hurt my mouth - the food was for free but not a nice experience

The staff was consistently courteous and helpful. We never had to ask for anything. The food was excellent and the show was better than I remembered. It was my nieces birthday and the staff asked if they could store her cake in the refrigerator. After our meal, they brought the cake, plates and forks. Took pictures. Then most amazing thing happened. Audrey, our server, cut the cake and served it to us!

The Chef was talented. Great place to bring the family and kids for entertainment. The food was not for me, the seafood had all the same flavors with the oil overwhelming the taste, the steak was more flavorful.

I’ve been to Benihana before, but always at a table where the food is made before you. This time I ate at a non cooking table and while the food was fine, it was nothing special.

Six of us family members were seated right away and enjoyed our own table/grill during this time of social distancing. In lieu of menus because of the virus, we had to use our cell phones to view the menu but none of the items were priced! The point being is that the 6-course meal includes rice, yet the server asked if we wanted chicken fried rice to which we all confirmed not knowing it was an extra cost. Also, the 6-course dinner was to include hot green tea, but we were given the choice of only ice cream or sherbert. The server stated green tea as if it were an ice cream flavor and laughed about it. Service was hospitable, friendly, and fun by the server, cook, and manager, but the two menu deviations were disingenuous. The food was excellent and we will return, but will have a more watchful eye on menu pricing.

This is the best Benihana I've ever been to. That says a lot... I've been eating at Benihana's for over 30 years from California to Texas. In particular the bar sushi area has the best employees. Trisha, Lydia and Ben. Professional friendly and they pour a great drink. Management here also is all over customer service. They create a warm caring atmosphere throughout the restaurant. Even down to the hostess.. Mariah is warm sincere, welcoming and knows how to get people seated quickly.

This restaurant was crowded and noisy. Hostess forgot to turn on the cooking service so we had to wait for the grill to get hot - about 15 minutes. The chef actually came to the grill to begin cooking and walked away after turning it on..because it takes a while for it to get hot enough to cook the food. I had chicken and shrimp with fried rice. My husband had filet mignon and scallops. The food was average at best. Nothing special at all. The restaurant was extremely over priced for the quality of food and service. One positive was the waitress did keep my iced tea glass filled yet there was little ice.

We had 15 people. It took an hour and a half to finish our meal. Our other table took over 2 hours to have their meal. Their cook was very slow. The meal was good, but the service was very slow. Cocktail drinks took forever to get to the table. We had a 6pm reservation and left after 7:30. My daughter had the same reservation and left right before 8:30pm.

Fell into this little blast from the past at a family birthday function. Apparently everyone that goes there is celebrating a birthday. I know this is not exactly Simpsons on The Strand in London but the patrons here dressed like slobs. Sweat pants? Running shorts? Blue jeans with t-shirts and ball caps? If I were the management I would install some basic dress code. The restaurant itself is a little tired so that along with all of the slobs it is not very appealing. Remember, this place used to be a pretty fancy outfit. I'm OK with the shtick and the corny Samurai stuff and the Mexican guy acting like a Japanese guy. They might want to take the Michael Jackson plug off their video screen as it does seem a little dated. We had a pretty good chef though. I like my meat rare and he got it perfect and the shrimp were cooked perfectly. His name was Miguel and he is good at it. All in all the food was pretty tasty but beware as it does contain a lot of sodium and MSG as I was dried out like a prune for a day or two.

I like the atmosphere, for that I give it a 4-star. Food is average, but the experience is fun and warm.

Let me start about the chef George!! He was amazing very funny and loves what he does and it shows.. it was my birthday dinner and 15 of us went for dinner and everyone loved it very fun and reasonable price with good food.

We came for my nephews' birthdays. The waitstaff was attentive and courteous. Our chef was fun to watch and the food was tasty and rather filling. We had to leave with to go boxes it was so much! We enjoyed the hibachi and teriyaki steak meals as well as the deluxe treat (filet mignon and lobster). I would absolutely eat here again.

You get to watch the chief cook the food right in front of you. This is the best hibachi I have been to.

Our chef Kendall was energetic and very accommodating! Our waiter Bre was helpful and kind! Best duo we want to dine with them again.

Appallingly bad. If you value your money and time, do yourself a favor and steer clear from this Benihana outlet. There's a reason why the average Yelp rating for this place is so poor. Our visit from earlier today was one of those experiences where you vehemently regret visiting a place. Frankly, this establishment should be shut down to make way for something else. Let me break it down for you: 1) Reception Area & Ambience The external pond area looks like it used to be nice once upon a time. Enter the dimly lit restaurant where a slouchy boy at the host desk will confirm your reservation, and ask you to take a seat in the waiting area. The waiting area just so happens to be six chairs placed next to two doors on opposite ends. The doors open up into to the men's and women's restrooms. So you're now Benihana's custodian of toilets. A few mins later we are called to be seated. As is standard at Benihana, you'll be ushered to a common table of 8. Sometimes you'll get lucky and end up with decent dining companions, sometimes you'll be stuck with the imbecile next to us who was on his phone through out and left the table 28 times. The first thing that'll strike you is how the interiors, tables and chairs all look grimey and in need of a good deep cleaning. A tablemate grabbed his napkins and started to clean bits of food and dirt from his place setting. My party had to dust off the chairs. 2) Service Our server arrives. Surly faced and the opposite of welcoming. Clearly an overworked and underpaid Hispanic worker being exploited by corporate America. He takes drink orders, ignores the birthday girl within our party, wearing a "Birthday Girl" hairband, and disappears. Returns after a few minutes with beverages (water), and takes orders. We made the mistake of ordering a couple of rolls as appetizers. Should have stuck to the limited lunch menu. The server then disappears for a solid twenty minutes. Our chef arrives, does the usual Benihana pseudo-teppanyaki show. Finishes making the fried rice, serves it to us. Still no sign of appetizers. A note about the fried rice - Dont bother with Benihana's upgrade scam. It isn't worth the money or the interest. The vegetable fried rice has everything but the diced bits of chicken. It is also rather bland, boring and stodgy. Appetizers arrive 2 mins short of me blowing my fuse and cancelling them. We eat the unevenly shaped rolls. They are satisfactory. Of course, we arent handed bowls for soy sauce and wasabi. Our server disappears again. This time for 30 mins while we eat our pedestrian hibachi food. Look, you're basically eating sauted meat or seafood with some butter. That's it. This food has very little taste, or culinary skill attached to it. It is one dimensional, and quite an affront to Asian food. But it's all you get here. The soup is a joke, as is the salad. We continue to try and eat our entrees while all the plates, dishes, bowls from the appetizer course and still littered across our limited table space. I eventually ask the server for the other table (where a kids party is going on) to get our missing server. She goes and comes back momentarily because she has no idea who is serving us. She was however courteous enough to clear our dishes and mutter an apology. Now the really fun stuff starts. The couple next table (with 4 kids) ask for their cheque and immediately start disputing the many add on charges for the awful fried rice served in tiny portions to the kids. The server unable to answer the question sends for the manager. A scruffy, poorly groomed woman shows up and in a loud voice proceeds to debate the pricing, which the servers never bothered to explain in the first place. We are sitting and eating while this sorry excuse of a hospitality professional is arguing with the guests over a kids meal, saying things like "I work here everyday, so I know what I'm saying". It was embarrassing and awkward. We ignore it. Our server is still missing. A few minutes later, all of us are jolted by the sound of a server fighting verbally with what might be the manager or supervisor. Oblivious to the fact that this is supposedly an above average restaurant where you pay three figures for lunches and dinners. They're literally yelling about what time she was supposed to come in, eventually culminating in the supervisor saying "if you don't want to work, leave right now" etc. Bizarre. By this time we just want to get out. Server shows up with cheque. Upon being asked if the birthday girl is going to get her ice cream (remember, this isn't the first time we've been to a Benihana, but it will be our last). Server proceeds to make banter, thinking he's funny - " Really, who told you that. They're liars, we do things differently here". Realizing that this line of talk isn't appropriate for guest who arent children and would like impact his gratuity, he reappears 5 minutes later with a bowl of ice cream (no choice of flavor elicited) and says "Here you go, you spoilt brat. Happy birthday." Sorry, I'm not amused. I pay the excessive bill, and leave. No thank you for coming in or any other farewell messages as we depart. At this point in time, going to 7/11 for lunch was more appealing and we were happy to just leave. Disgraceful.

I had a great meal at Benihana- I did find the crispy tuna roll to be very overcooked- dark, over-fried crispy outside was a bit overdone. Steak very tender, great meal with enough to leftovers and helpful server.

I’m not sure what it was. But our chef mango was not only disrespected us by after I didn’t like my order, by asking “did you know what you ordered? Stick to what you know” but they also didn’t send a waitress back to resend a order. Food was mediocre but if you’re not black you’ll probably have a good time!!!

Ate there this evening and had one of if not the worst dining experiences in years. My wife and I ordered the chicken and steak for two. When they finally got around to cooking the steak at the end of the meal we looked at each other aghast after they threw down the thinnest, poorest quality of meat I think I have ever seen. Our bad that we actually tried tasting it. We will never, ever consider there again. Beware!

Probably in the top 5 worst meals ever! Would never return here again and we’ve been patrons for over 25 years. Never mind the ambiance and cultural experience is void of anything Japanese...the food was a complete bust! We chose this place because my son wanted his children (6 and almost 3) to be a part of his birthday celebration. We all assumed the chef would be entertaining (he needed plenty of practice as my grandson pointed out every time he dropped the utensils 😂) the wait staff was inexperienced as well. We didn’t even have chopsticks or napkins when our salads came and we told him previously. I had to get up from the table 3 times making me “that” diner. The bottom line was the food and it gets a sub par rating. Land and Sea has always been a favorite and our scallops were fishy and the size of a nickel. Fillet was gristly and tough. The “butter” (read garlic margarine) was so plentiful in the fried rice he made it was puddled at the bottom of my rice bowl. They had no milk for kids (they were out) and when dessert was ordered they were out of strawberry (first choice), rainbow sherbet (second choice) ice cream and settled on chocolate. Needless to say we will never go back. Our $400 can be spent somewhere else!

We had recently visited the Benihana in Toronto, Ontario, and were blown away...and were hoping for a similar meal in Texas. The set-up was similar, but certainly not as clean and well-kept as the Toronto location. We loved our chef, and he put on a good little show for our experience there. Parts of the meal were good, but the main meats (steak and chicken) were disappointing and overcooked. Interestingly, we got a lot less food than we did in Toronto (although the prices are slightly cheaper in Texas to reflect that). Overall, we were disappointed that this was the location we chose to take our friends to for the very first time.

We went to Benihana for dinner after a long day at a conference. First off, the server we had was great. She made sure we got everything we needed and she was very friendly. The food was really good! I've been to other hibachi restaurants but this one tops the list because they have so many choices besides the typical hibachi menu. I would definitely try Benihana again.

For the past few years, we've been celebrating birthdays at Benihana, and we always have a great time. The food is good, but we really get a kick out of the performance given by the cooks. It's the same routine, but still a bit different each time. While we've never brought children, those we have seen look like they were having a great time, and the staff seem to go out of their way to be sure they have a great time. It's a little pricy, but worth it for the fun. The one thing I don't care for is the parking situation - parking, including handicapped parking, is scarce on the lot at the restaurant. There is a parking lot across the street. There is also valet, but have found the valet staff rude and will not use the service.

Food was great but we sweated to death while eating! Not sure if it was Bc if it being July? But we were fanning ourselves while eating - got our food to go after a little while.

I love coming to Benihana because it's a dining experience (as opposed to just eating food). I've been coming to this location for about a decade for special occasions. The lunch specials are substantially cheaper than dinner, but they include less food as would be expected. However, lunch portions are more than filling. The restaurant has limited parking, but there's a large overflow lot right across a tiny street that has minimal traffic and is free. for those not familiar with these kinds of restaurants, you are seated at a table around a built-in grill with about 8 people per table, so chances are that you're going to sit with some complete strangers. There's a server who takes your order, brings appetizers, does drink refills, and clears plates. Otherwise the remainder of the meal involves a chef custom cooking the meals for each person at the table. Some chefs are very engaging or do far more tricks than they are required to do while cooking the food. On my visit today, the server was very slow even though it was after the lunch rush and before dinner. We sat for large periods of time while waiting to give drink orders, waiting for drinks, waiting to order food, and waiting on appetizers. Otherwise, I'd give it 5/5 instead of 4/5.

Cool place, good Japanese single malt and generally good Hibachi food just like any of the other Benihanas.

The food was excellent, fresh of course and meats were tender. Chef was friendly and proficient but not intrusive, as we were a business group and engaged in conversation. Would recommend and would return.

I haven’t been there in a long time so on a recent visit to Dallas I decided to give it a try- I was very happy that the food was really good and the service exceptional. I went on a Sunday evening and surprised at the 30 min wait- but it actually ended up being closer to 20min and well worth it. It was fun seeing the chef do the “choo choo train”

What has happened to this Benihana on Banner in Dallas. Service was awful. Chef was not personable and someone noticed a bad gang tattoo on his arm. Hopefully he’s old enough to be okay but his personality was off for sure. They brought tea that had something in it. Taste was off it had something in the ice tea. The next batch was different in color. Our waiter was flustered and obviously had too many tables to wait on. He kept telling us he would be back but will be a while. The table next to us had a different server was sat after us had a better chef took more time and they were served everything before us. Food was so so. Definitely not what we’re used to. Management please help this place. It could use some interior updating too. Our table was not clean when they sat us there and the menus were sticky.

Our team from work took a vote on where to go and this place won. This was my 1st time here. Neat place on the inside. Staff are very friendly. 11 of us squeezed around the table. From what I could tell they usually max out at 10. The chef was fantastic and catered to the 3 OBNOXIOUSLY PICKY people that were in our party. Food was really good. It's right on par with what you should expect. I will not come back to this location as the one in Plano is much closer to my house.

While visiting our son, my husband and I saw an ad for Benihana’s. We decided to take our son for dinner and had a wonderful time. Although the seating was in groups of people we didn’t know it was a great adventure. The way the chef entertained us with the preparation of the food was amazing and the food was delicious. We were so glad we decided to go to this restaurant because we were not disappointed. Kudos to you Benihana’s!!!

it was my friends birthday and they were kind to let us go there for lunch. the only thing is if you take you birthday certificate before dinner you must order you b-day meal off of dinner menu. offered monday to thursday --spend $30 get $30 free but know that you need to go to chef table and sign up before your birthday, then in comes in an email. the chef and the waiter were amazing, very fun and personable. been going there for 40 years. the banner and merit location is my go to.so many great memories. i also enjoy there happy hour appetizers half price. and if i eat in the bar the whole meal is $39.00 cant beat that for all you get.

We visited this BENIHANA restaurant on 06.02.18. It was busy, as any good restaurant should be on a Saturday night. This restaurant delivers much, much less than expected. The overall initial impression upon entering is nasty and disgusting. The floors were filthy and there was an unpleasant, disagreeable odor as you enter the reception area. It is not authentic Japanese cuisine at all. The table service was terrible and very slow. Drinks were not delivered. Orders were mixed-up. Side dishes were never delivered until near the end of the meal. Everyone’s meal include hot, green tea but it was never delivered. Even the check was slow in coming! Inexplicably, each part of the meal was cooked singly and served individually by itself -rice, cooked and served alone, then one vegetable, cooked and served alone, then one onion, cooked and served alone, and finally the entree meat, cooked and served alone, all by itself on the plate. It was horrible that the meal was “pieced-out” like it was -cooking one item at a time- making it impossible to enjoy the dish as ordered. The entire meal should have been simultaneously prepared and served whole as one single complete dish. The food itself was extremely small portions and way, way, way over-priced. We have had better oriental food at the mall food court. Any Asian buffet would easily surpass this BENIHANA for quality and value. It was extremely disappointing to visit a restaurant bearing the “BENIHANA” name and receive such abysmal food and service. We will never visit this restaurant again and we recommend that other diners seek better quality food and more reasonable prices at some other area restaurant because there is no service, quality, or value at this BENIHANA restaurant.

We went their last night to celebrate my wife's birthday. We should have left when we were seated with a family with two boys who would not mind and had very poor eating habits...for that matter neither did the parents...the food was fair though it could have used a bit more seasoning. The chef did a nice job entertaining us. However he had no concept of time to cook different items. My wife had the chateaubriand and I had seafood. The seafood cooks much faster than the chateaubriand. So I had a choice of not waiting for my wife to eat or eating cold food. The cold food was not good. Probably would not go back. Additionally I realized today that one of the 3 seafood items on my entree was omitted. 😟. Not good after paying nearly $40 for an entree!

It was a great place to eat, my girl loved it too, the chef cooks the food right in front of you and he put on a great show and cooked it all up excellent!!

Reservation was made using Open Table; we were seated immediately upon arrival. We were there for wedding anniversary. I had ordered flower for wife. Flowers were delivered after being greeted and receipt of our drinks. Great food (at reasonable price level) and entertainment at hibachi table. At end of dinner, there was a complimentary photo taken of us by staff. Photo printed presented in attractive cardstock frame. I've been to this specific Benihana restaurant on several occasions; never been dissatisfied.

Excelent food, very funny ! It's great to go with friends, enjoy the habilities of the staff. More than that, the food is pretty good but do not order too much: 3 dishes are more than enough for 4 people ! Enjoy

I walked over from a nearby hotel on a MONDAY night. The front receptionists seemed busy. I asked to go to the bar, figuring sitting at the bar was the quickest way to service. WRONG. A guy brought me water, but walked off. After about 10 min of waiting and nobody even acknowledging that I was there, I finished the water and left.

I haven't been to a Benihana in probably 40 years, but a friend invited me to lunch with her family. Unfortunately it wasn't exactly an enthralling experience. It took 15 minutes to be seated for our reservation, a sign of a staffing problem. Indeed, we learned that two cooks didn't show up on time that day. Being short-handed meant that diners with reservations couldn't be seated on time. We were promptly offered menus and drink orders were taken. Our server was quite attentive, but again the delivery of drinks took much more time than anticipated. The shortage of cooks meant that the time taken to get actual food was also delayed (except for sushi rolls which tasted day old). Finally we had a cook (Roberto) in front of us 45 minutes after our reservation time. Roberto was very attentive and responsive. He put on a good show and was very engaging. Everything was cooked to order, and the meat was very high quality. Due to our delay, a restaurant manager came by with two orders of extra sushi rolls. I'm not surprised. They weren't going to be any good after that day. But the offer was genuine and appreciated. Our visit concluded with a split scoop of sherbet which was delicious! All in all I don't think the value is very good here, quite expensive even with "the show". All restaurants are hurting these days due to staffing shortages, but more needs to be done to entice and retain diners. Benihana isn't quite there.

They sat 4 couples at the cook top. Non of us knew each other but had plenty of time to become friends we waited 2 hours and no chef came. The other couples started to leave we were getting up when he finally rolled up it was awkward for us and the chef from then on. We were starving and aren't up for the show. By then with the wait for the table and all it was 3+ hours before we saw food. Got there at 1:00 on a Sunday and did not eat till 4:00. It was some kind of management thing. When we got there and as we watched there were lots of chefs working but as they finished they cleaned up and disappeared soon we couldn't get a drink of water. That's when couples at the table started leaving.

193 reviews, most of them negative, mostly about the wait and parking. (2 hours wait, even with resiveration) Not going to add to a post that will just gat a canned responce that they will do better. When looking at the dates of the post these issues have been going on for several years. So its aparent they are ignored. This is just bad management. Dallas store is also run down and scratched and pealing wallpaper, filthy carpets with stains, Ive seen cleaner Dennys stores. None of the front staff actied like they wanted to be there and frankly kinda rude. Management, you know the issues so fix them or close down.

Currently sitting at our table as I write this. It’s been well over an hour since our reservation. We’ve sat at our table since 7:15 or so. It took 20 mins to get our water and it’s 8:10 now. We are still waiting on a chef for our table. This is a terrible experience if they don’t comp our meal in some fashion I’ll be so disappointed.

Sixteen of us went there for a graduation dinner. We were seated in our own room with two cooks manning the 2 grills. Very entertaining watching the cooks as they prepare the dinners. The food was very good, with more than ample size portions.

What a fun place to go to dinner with a crowd!! We had lots of family in for Thanksgiving and we went over the weekend . Excellent steak and seafood , excellent appetizers and excellent entertainment !! We loved it all!!

Made reservations for 6:30 and we didn't get seated until after 7PM. They seemed very unorganized and our drink orders weren't taken very quickly. Our chef had zero personality. He banged around a lot but not really talented with his show. He actually looked bored or pissed. The fried rice people got their order way faster than our steamed rice. It was awkward because it looked like they were waiting on us. I ordered Salmon and it wasn't even put on the grill until the very last after everyone was already eating. And the quality of the salmon was eh. It had lots of dark meat on there. yuk. Then he forgot the onions and served them last like a pile of grilled onions on everyones plate. The vegetables were over cooked and soggy not crisp. We won't be going back. Geisha is way closer and much better quality.

Salutations, I have been periodically going to Benihana at the Dallas location on Banner Rd. since the early 1980 's when it first opened, and until yesterday it has always been my favorite Japanese restaurant. It has really gone downhill since they were bought out by a mega-corp holding company called One Group Hospitality Inc. in 2024. First of all, they always had Japanese people cooking and serving in years past, and there was not a single Japanese person in visible in the restaurant. You go to eat Japanese food... you want to see Japanese people cooking. I mean REALLY... Even the tiny little Teriyaki grille in North Park Mall has Japanese people preparing the food... If they can do it... Benihana had better do the same for the ridiculous prices they over-charge. The only Oriental person I saw was a Chinese Lady who could not speak any more Japanese than Konnichiwa and seemed to feel very out of place in the restaurant. I switched to what I know of Chinese, and there-after addressed her properly. She was rather surprised, as if no one had ever done this for her. None of the staff knew she was Chinese and kept trying to say she was of different cultures. I am the sort of person who chooses to respect other cultures, and at the very least learn how to say certain things in their languages before I meet them or go to a restaurant or business where I am to deal with someone of a particular culture. I even learn how to use the proper accent and gestures. I EXPECT... To see Japanese people cooking and serving in a so-called Five Star Japanese Restaurant. The Primary Rules of Cooking: 1. Ingredients 2. Preparation 3. Timing 4. Presentation I could tell that the Nice Hispanic Gentleman who was cooking had been preparing food for most of his life, so I can’t fault him for that... I am a chef as well, and I KNOW... what is required and expected of the position. A proper chef begins in childhood like I did at my age 5, and we often come from a family line of chefs and cooks... It's just in our blood, and cultural food is best prepared by people of those cultures, for they grew up with it and know it best... I have however, seen the following all too many times these days. While all the people working there were reasonably professional, no one was happy; not a single authentic smile on anyone's faces, and cosmically few (strained fake-happy looks) on any of the customers faces (and I looked at all 4 teppans in both rooms where we were and that I could see). In the case of a meal at Benihana’s, Fried Rice First, Then the meats and vegetables and then the seafood. He was out of order. Furthermore, I got hit several times by flying grains of rice and even a bit of onion. I simply could not believe that after preparing the fried rice that the chef did not then prepare the meats first and then he also proceeded to put the raw chicken breasts on the teppan way too close to my now overcooked and scrawny 15USD sized lobster tail... (I Know the average lobster prices) It was the smallest lobster tail I have ever seen in a proper restaurant... While all the ingredients were of quality, they were all extremely small, more than ever before. I was insulted, He didn't put the butter on properly until the seafood was already well on to overdone, and then he totally overcooked it and even risked cross contamination by the chicken. He then thoroughly over cooked the steaks. A good steak is to be cooked first and then cut in order to keep the juices inside and to keep their flavor. He did the opposite and began by initially only lightly searing for a few seconds and then cubing the meat for cooking. This is not how it is done. The mushrooms are to be cooked with the steak and they were not, and they were terribly dry and had no real seasoning. One lady next to me ordered Her steak medium rare, and received it medium well. My aunt's steak was well done instead of the medium she ordered. To top it all off... and I SIMPLY COULD NOT BELIEVE HE ACTUALLY CUT ONE SCALLOP IN HALF TO SERVE US. They grossed over $1000 on that one table. Our meal alone was 144 USD after tax and the portions were very stingy. I have always had take-home from Benihana, and this time there was nothing but the dry, day-old rice, which was also almost cold when it finally arrived at the end of the meal (after we asked three times for it). THE END... of the meal mind you. Benihana can afford to have the right amount of food to serve all patrons. They didn't even have the steamed rice ready, and they got our drinks wrong as well. We ordered the large margaritas and we got tiny rock glass margaritas instead. The drinks were made properly, but the order was wrong. The staff also did not properly place napkins. They instead tossed them at us and made us put our own napkins in place. It was sloppy and inappropriate. Benihana’s is supposed to be a five-star restaurant, but we were treated like it was a fast-food stall on a street corner. I EXPECT proper service for a meal costing $144 dollars. Here is another sore point. He used way too little oil to cook and he did not properly flame season the grill before beginning. This process helps temporarily carbonize the grill so food does not stick while cooking (like any PROPER CHEF knows). There was more of the food on the grill than on my plate. He flamed the grill at the end, and he almost caught my hair on fire – Literally! It was so close to my face I felt the blast and had to jerk back. This is unacceptable and risks patron’s safety. My last complaint is about the seating. We used to have one person on the ends of the teppan, and now they placed two. They crammed so many chairs on the side of the teppan that we were like sardines. I was downright almost claustrophobic. This is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. Two people on the end of that size of teppan is not so bad, but never cram your patrons together so closely that they cannot eat and cannot enjoy themselves. I had to keep rearranging my dishes just to eat from them and to keep something from falling on to the floor. The whole meal made me feel like I was eating at one of those street vendor carts, not a five-star restaurant. I want our money back, and I fully intend to never go to Benihana again... This has me very sad. I have always loved Benihana's. They have also let the appearance of the exterior of the Banner Rd. location deteriorate. It just looks shabby and unkempt. It appears that, like so many other mega-corps, One Group Hospitality Inc. is far more interested in a fast buck than in maintaining the traditions and proper service of Our Benihana’s. So disappointing. I hope they do something about it, or we will see the place fade into history before it's time. Thank you for your time. Go find somewhere else to eat if you don't want to be disappointed like I am. And remember... This comes from one who is a chef, and even though I am not Japanese, I can do a much better job of preparing the exact same food at home than they did in restaurant, and even though I am retired. No one... and I mean NO ONE... eats my food and doesn't smile. Namaste.

If you rate the restaurant on just the food and not the show it is just Okay. Menu is limited if you don't like Sushi. Ordered the Spicy Chicken which was good but nothing exceptional. The rice was a little dry and the texture was similar to Mexican rice.

We didn’t have a reservation but we were seated in about 20 minutes which was great. The hosts were friendly and helpful. Restaurant was clean and welcoming. The food was absolutely outstanding!! Cooked to order and so fresh. Large portions for everyone. It was entertaining and fun as well. The fried rice was beyond delicious, never tasted any other fried rice that was as good. Chef was friendly and talented too. Will definitely go back and tell family/friends to visit!! Thank you Benihana!

When we arrived, we waited for the rest of our party in the bar area. We had to go to the bar to get drinks as the waiter never took our order. At the table, the food was good, but slow. Also, the cook gave my husband's entree to someone else at our table, not in our party, so we had to wait for another one to get cooked. I have been to better hibachi style restaurants for the price.

Teppanyaki and Fried Rice are recommended. Enjoy the cooking art, feeling and taste of meat which freshly grill and served directly.

Always enjoy coming here ... probably the prettiest Benihana in the Dallas area. The food and drinks are good ... the whole show is a bit formulaic but hey it works and it's fun. The service was a bit slow but friendly... there always seem to be birthday, anniversary, or other groups celebrating some event. My wife wanted sushi but I didn't feel like driving to nobu so she suggested Benihana knowing their sushi is good (not great but satisfies the craving ). There are so many good places to eat in Dallas that it's hard to give anyone more than 3 stars unless they really standout ... if I could I'd give it 3.5 stars .... it's a fun place and given the enormous amount of butter they use to cook everything.... the food always tastes good ... lol! Definitely a good place for a medium to large group.

Very convient location next to a Westin hotel. Food and service were very good. I will be coming back.

Benihana was soooo good! It was so good we ate twice during our visit... everything was fresh and the cooks will cook your food however you want them too! Don't be afraid to speak up. Everyone was friendly and there was nothing but good vibes!

We made a reservation for this restaurant but we still had to wait to be seated. We did not end up ordering a lot as we found the vegetarian options to be very limited. We loved the mochi ice cream in strawberry flavour the most.

I wish I could give "0" but the least option is "1". I went there for my friend's birthday. I ordered a Yakisoba - steak. The chef gave me mainly noodles that were tasteless. The noodles had about 6 tiny pieces or cubes of steak not seasoned. Besides the $42 that I paid for the Yakisoba dinner, I was charged $7.00 for egg fried rice that was also tasteless containing just eggs and rice not seasoned either. A margarita was $15. and they autotipped themselves $9.98 I believe. My friend ordered a margarita that was supposed to be $12.00 they brought her one giant margarita that was $54. The girl who was directing the chef came to our table and gave the chef a ziploc container and took most of our steak for herself, that's why our noodles were mainly just noodles. I myself threw away $69.00 for that dinner. One of the girls paid about $130. for hers because she was given the $54.00 margarita and she had to drink it all because the lady who stole our steak told her she was not allowed to take it home. I did not say anything because I did not want to ruin my friend's birthday. The birthday girl was not even given a piece of cake. So far, this has been my worse experience dining out in Dallas. For certain, I will never ever go back to Benihanna. I went to a hibachi placed called just like that "Hibachi" and the food was much better than Benihanna. I was hoping to have the same experience but Benihanna is the total opposite. What a horrible experience a lot of people have had at Benihanna.

Been a long time. Still fun. Prefer a Japanese chef but apparently hard to come by... Good food.good location. Would return, just not soon.

We ordered a variety of sushi rolls, appetizers and meals. The food came out quickly, it was also very tasty. The staff was very nice, we did not have reservations, so we had to sit at the bar. My recommendation is to book prior to coming, so you do have a spot at a hibachi table.

The food was awesome and was cooked with such flair and pizzazz I got distracted by the chef and inadvertently ate a vegetable (which I never do...I am a proud carnivore!). Cocktails were amazing and the service was exemplary

Went for dinner with family to celebrate a birthday for our 7 year old. The cooker presentation was good, nothing exceptional. The food was good. We all got the 5 course steak with chicken fried rice. It was a fun family experience. The cooker at the table behind us appeared to have more personality and showmanship.

I came here to celebrate a friend's birthday and we had a great time. They sat us at a table with another couple who went from stranger to friend very quick as we laughed and talked to our chef who was doing food chopping tricks and cracking jokes. The funny chef cooked us up a great meal. I look forward to coming again when back in Dallas.

I am so unhappy with this place. We had reservations at 7pm and didn't get seated until almost 8pm. It was a party of 12. For a 16th birthday party. So, so, so disappointed.

We ordered off the lunch menu (back page) and received great meals at a quite reasonable price. Judy ordered the scallops, and I chose a duo of scallops and calamari. Both delicious, “Every time we come to Dallas, I want us to eat here.” Good show as always. Wait person was energetic and helpful with her (strong) recommendations. Superior to another similar restaurant we know. Several years since we had been here. Only disappointment is that the large koi carp pond was dry and had been that way for a while.

For over ten years, this has been one of our favorite go to places before Covid. Today, our food was without flavor, filet mignon was a total disappointment- couldn’t chew or swallow seven of the tiny eight pieces. What a disappointment!

We were there for a Birthday, made reservations and was seated then 2 other men joined are party never said much which is fine & we all had dinner ! But when came time to pay the waiter brought the 2 men there check & they left . But Guess what happened the nice waiter put their food on are bill such a nice guy !!!! Beware of the staff there con Artist trust me 260.00 later & by the way I want be back !!!!

This was my first time to experience Benihana. I’ve always wanted to and now know I have not missed anything. I’ll give some good points and finish it up with why my experience was Ekisaitingude wa arimasen (not exciting). There is plenty of parking across the street (watch out for the broken beer bottles) but only valet is available on their lot. The entrance is cool and complete with a huge koi pond. The décor is dated but in a cool way and not open-concept like modern restaurants. The attitude of the employees is exceptional and the service even better. My water glass never got empty which is very important to me. Now for the “just okay” part. The place is made up of individual dining areas which seat 8 people to a table and uses dishes that scream 1974. My room had two tables which should have had a “spoiler alert” sign posted as the other table’s chef did all the “tricks” which were meaningless when it was my table’s turn. By the way, dimming the lights and shining a green laser on a smoking onion while making choo choo train noises did not do it for me. The crowd is one you would see at Walmart and there were numerous birthdays because…wait for it…the staff is forced to clap and sing happy birthday in both English and Japanese. This place goes on my boycott list because of that stupid practice. Oh, and you get a picture of your group complete with a paper frame (yawn). My bill in both the bar area and dining room had to be corrected so I advise you to check the numbers or you may be overcharged. I never saw a manager making the rounds which I believe contributes to the success of a restaurant. If one had done that then hopefully he/she would have thrown out the idiot sitting next to me who preferred to watch videos on his big screen cell phone while on speakerphone. Apparently he was also bored with the cheesy antics of the chef. By the way, he had a cooked roll so why was this fool at the main table where it was not prepared? That's what the bar area is for which is also appropriate for cell phone users. My food was cooked to order and I definitely recommend the fried rice but that was interrupted because they don’t wait for everyone to leave before cleaning the area for the next group. I don’t need to see someone cleaning the grill, stacking dishes and attempting to sweep food off of the floor while paying for my check. Imagine a cleaning team removing the remains of a frat party. So there you have it. Overpriced, tacky and annoying. Sayonara, Benihana.

Had reservations at 5:45 Sat 11/16/19. Waited maybe 2 minutes and taken to table. The chef was absolutely great! Engaged with everyone at table. Food was so much better than expected, steak tender even with mine well done. Veges were full of flavor. Had drink from bar, best colada I have had in years. Definitely will go back and encourage everyone lijewise.

There was nothing I really didn't like except that the tables were full and i had to sit on one of the higher chairs (bar type feel) and I didn't really get to enjoy my meal as much as I wasn't comfortable. But the food was amazing. They make it right in front of you and the also have a little coy pond that surrounds the majority of the restaurant. Very nice spot if you are not on a tight budget.

My friend and I decided to visit this location yesterday. We made reservations and were seated with a separate party of 3 in no time! In the same room seated at the table to the left of us was a party of about 7 or 8 people. Our waitress quickly arrived at our table to take our drink and appetizer orders. She shared that she was new and asked us for patience as she served us. She was very pleasant. Approximately 7-10 minutes passed when a middle aged lady with glasses arrived at our table stating that she was a manager and the grill where we were seated was not working. I found her statement to be quite odd since no one had attempted to turn it on while we were sitting, yet I shrugged it off. I followed the manager and the other party to the back area of Benihana where there were 4 tables, however, we were the only ones back there. (Everyone at the table is a person of color) The waitress came to the back and apologized repeatedly for us being relocated while my friend sat in silence. Once she'd calmed down she shared with everyone at the table that she witnessed a gentleman that sat at the table across from our original seats went to speak with the manager that came over to our table just minutes before we were moved and told that our grill was "broken". I've frequented Benihana for decades and have never experienced any type of mistreatment so I was unsure if her analysis of the situation was just an overreaction. We proceeded to order our entrees. My friend was still disturbed by the situation and went to speak with a different manager by the name of Mark. He came to our table to hear our concerns and returned back with 2 $20 gift receipt cards to use next time for the “inconvenience.” We paid for our $112.00 tab and headed towards the exit only to witness a new party dining at the "broken" grill/ table we were moved from shortly before. My heart dropped and I realized that we had been discriminated against all because of the color of our skin. I do understand Benihana does not control the character or beliefs of their customers, however, the actions of the female manager exhibited that she shared the same sentiment about our table that those people in the table across from us did. To be placed at the back of the restaurant because a Caucasian party of 7/8 people weren’t comfortable is disheartening in itself. But to have the MANAGER(Caucasian) support their wishes and make us feel so devalued is something I will never forget! I am an elementary school teacher and even my students have more compassion and awareness than the adult manager who treated us so poorly. The $40 in gift certificates have been discarded. My humiliation cannot be erased with $40. I will never step foot in this location again in life. I want to inform everyone who reads this about the HORRIBLE treatment we experienced. I plan to contact the district manager and their Corporate office first thing Monday morning to let them know about our horrible experience and encourage them to properly train management on how to fairly treat people of ALL colors!

This restaurant was pretty much what I expected from an American-style Japanese teppanyaki restaurant. If you are unfamiliar with the style, people are seated around a metal grill, where a chef cooks your food in front of you. The seats at each table are all filled in, so if your party is <8 you'll be sharing the table with strangers. The chef did all the expected jokes and tricks, and was friendly. Each course of the food is cooked and served separately. The food was quite good, and I enjoyed the dinner. On a side note, the restaurant exterior decor was very pretty. It was like a little Japanese garden.

Great meal at a great price $13.00 per person includes 2 of 3 proteins and chicken fried rice. We chose the Steak and Shrimp and it was excellent. The bottle of wine was reasonable at $32.00.

Went with my cousin during a business trip. We made there in time for happy hour overall was a good food and experience.

Yes first time at Benihana and it was a great experience. Celebrated a birthday and had lunch. Scallops were excellent. All four of us were happy with our meals and would definitely go back. Even got a bday desert and photo of our party.

I love this place. For busier days such like the weekend, I would recommend to make a reservation ahead of time to guarantee a chef's table The food is very delicious. They do serve alcoholic drinks and beer. i have been here couple of times and have not disappointed. I celebrated my birthday here and they brought out complimentary ice cream and sang to me. They also took a picture and gave us a copy as a gift. I would recommend this place if you are looking for entertainment and great food.

Have eaten at Benihana the last two years while attending a conference. The staff are friendly, food is great, and the chef has the besdt sense of humor.

No fantastic showmanship like other locatiobs, but at least the food was consistent. I've been to other locations like the new one on Las Vegas Strip and the food was not up to par. We had a brand new server, so there were a few challenges with getting the order right and getting drinks in a timely fashion

We went with a large group and the service was very good. The environment was clean and attractive. The food was the best I have found at a Benihana. Recommend.

I have to say, when I went for the first time, I expected a lot better...even though they cook the food in front of you, you are at a table with seven other people. So, if you for Instance want steamed rice and others wants fried, your rice is served first ( whilst waiting for your other food to be cooked) whilst they cook the fried rice. The seafood is cooked and then the beef. By the time they are done , your rice is cold and some of the seafood as well. If you want to eat everything at the same time, then this is defiantly not the place to eat. But if you are happy to eat rice on its own, salad that's really not worth shouting about, have soup that is basically chicken stock with a few green onions and seafood/ beef that is cold or ends up cold because you are having to wait, then this is defiantly the place to go. Not to to mention a bill of above $70.

We spent hundreds of dollars and really regret it. Here’s some of my complaints: -the grill was very dirty when we sat down and the chef had to re-clean it. -the chef didn’t speak at all - no show at all and we had a kid with us. -there was only ginger sauce or spicy mustard sauce-no yum yum sauce. - the waitress actually came as the chef was still plating our food, with boxes and bags. I’ve never felt so rushed in my life. - the food was very bland, but perfectly cooked for tenderness. - they started cleaning the table and scraping plates of the other people at our table, while we were still eating dessert. - they didn’t tell us there was an up charge to actually get the rice fried. - they didn’t clear our plates, and we had to pile them up to the side of us. This was a treat for us, and I feel cheated.

What a disappointment to be treated this way at our son’s birthday dinner! The hibachi chef, William, frankly floored us with his rudeness.. This will be a long post but so was the wait when we were expecting our check to be adjusted after the double error on the order.. So the birthday boy’s order had been entered in the system wrong (got spicy shrimp instead of the chicken order), and when we brought this to his attention, William got mad and stormed out of the dining booth. The other couple at our table was stunned witnessing his hostile reaction. In addition to this, another order for our four person party was wrongly delivered to one of us. We had ordered the Trio from Specials yet William left the shrimp out of the order and produced the Emperor dish. We kept telling him the shrimp is still missing but he ignored us, did not say a word. When we communicated this to the waitress, a very sweet and kind younger lady, she truly tried to make it right. The two stars are for her and for her only. They eventually brought the birthday boy his correct order after (granted once we others had already finished our meals), but William insisted he had gotten all the orders right and refused the lack of shrimp. The manager was also unwilling to adjust the check to reflect the actual received portions. We got a $15 dollar adjustment for the bday boy’s wrong order as the waitress remembered what he had wanted and said it was a typo when entering the order to the system. The whole experience left us feeling awful, especially on a birthday dinner. The way William stormed out and showed his anger was nothing short of rude and childish. The money side of the incident is insignificant but the complete lack of concern for customer care and owning employees’ mistakes by the manager certainly ensures we shall never dine at this location again. Mistakes can easily be turned around to pleasant experiences when attention and validation is given, but what we experienced today was an alarming example of missed opportunity.

THIS PLACE IS DISGUSTING!!!!!! There are crumbs, dirt, and silverware all over the floor. The kitchen is gross! We made reservations, arrived on time, yet had to wait about 25 minutes to be seated. Not to mention the food is just trash and that’s being polite. This is a rip off version of ichiban!!!! KITCHEN NIGHTMARES IN REAL LIFE!!!💀🙄

Our favorite spot we visit a few times a month. The chicken fried rice is a must. I always get the chicken or shrimp hibachi. My sweetie always a beef and we are never disappointed...we have done the HH a few times and it is so good. Hot sakes are half price and they have a great assortment of rolls. Fun to try out. Highly recommend to all.

Typical hibachi style Japanese restaurant. Lunch portions are generous. Nice building and set up. Not obnoxiously loud like some places.

I visited Benihana while in Dallas to visit family. As expected the food drinks and atmosphere were great, Benihana has a great business model and the venue is like a setting right out of Epcot Center. We had a table reserved for 7 and did not complete our meal and exit until just before 10. There seemed to be enough support staff to clean tables, stations etc. but there were not enough actual performing chefs and wait staff to keep up with the pace even on a Wednesday night. It took almost an hour from the time we were seated until our personal chef arrived. He did a great job and was very personable as was our server, but everyone seemed exhausted. If all the performers are exhausted and overworked due to under staffing, the show suffers and the experience is diminished.

Took my youngest son to Benihana's for the 1st time. Had a great time enjoying the show and fresh great food. How can you beat dinner and a show all in one?

Our boys were thoroughly entertained with the performance of the dinner. They loved our chef who was great at entertaining our kids and keep them smiling! Wait staff was friendly and speedy. We enjoyed our night. The only reason I didn't give everything a full 5-star is it's hard to compare food at a chain restaurant to other high end "foodie" establishments. Overall, we had a great time and we'll be back every year!

Undesirable service and crowd. Sat in the lounge at a dirty table. We brought this to the attention of the waiter, heapologized saying they were busy. However he didnt clean it. Two more trips to our table and he goes "your table is dirty, let me clean that." Really? Did he miss the part where we told him twice? Spent $50 on poorly rolled sushi that fell apart, served by someone that did not want us there.i had trouble even leaving 10%. Our drinks were served on trays filled will old lettuce and we were never asked if we wanted another in 2 hours of being there. Our table-mates asked for their drinks 3 times and received them after about an hour. At the point we lost all interest in eating and our glasses were still been empty. The server asked each person if they wanted soup and salad prior to serving each course. When you order 6 courses why should you have to say you want them again. The soup was served with the serves finger on the inside of our bowls. (Gross) Service and management was not organized/trained to handle the volume of bussiness this restuarant does. We left after a 30 min gap in service after the salad course. I told the manager we were leaving and maybe we would try again tomorrow. The manager gave us 2 appetizer cards for 3 people who already spent $50. I am glad we left and we did not spent even close to the $300 we anticapted dinner would cost. It was supposed to be a celebratory dinner for my wife's new job. We celebrated poor service instead. The manager's solution was inadequate considering service/cost! Going somewhere else tonight! My wife deserves better! Our date of visit was 3/7/15 @ 8:45pm

Staying at a hotel nearby, so Benihana chosen because of location. Although a busy Saturday night and no reservation, we were pleased to be squeezed in to join another party of four. I had not visited a Benihana for many years and was a little disappointed with the chef's "performance" which seemed rather bored and disinterested. My wife and I would have enjoyed the food better had it not been overwhelmed by some sickly sauces that seemed to swamp the flavour of the key ingredients. We got what we paid for but wouldn't rush to go back to another Benihana. It feels like an experience that has been surpassed by good quality Asian restaurants.

Really, I should have known better, but this was the only place close to where I was staying with half decent reviews. The ambience was ok, but for one of the few times in my greedy life the main course went back with only one mouthful out of it. Soup starter ok, wine good, side dish tasty, but it arrived (fairly hot) about 10 mins before the main it was to accompany. This is basically a sushi/sashimi place, but I opted for a baked option, which was neither cooked nor raw, tasted revolting and screamed 'I am trouble'. Back it went uneaten, at which point the bad odour I clearly generated, prevented anyone from coming near me again. Then two staff start snapping at each other. "Don't tell me how to do my job", Time to go. To be fair offending dish was left off the bill. On the issue of how to do your job....see above.

We (5 coworkers from TN, CA, WA & FL) enjoyed dinner at the Dallas restaurant at 7775 Banner Dr last evening and it was the finest experience by far. The wit and humor of teppanyaki pro Chan kept us in stitches!! The food was delicious as expected, but the service by the young man waiting on us "hand and foot" (9pm) was EXCEPTIONAL! I also frequent the Miramar and most recently (last week) Coral Springs location and enjoyed the delivery. BUT... again, as proven by Chan and our waiter (pls forgive me for being so taken by his great service) proved, "everything's bigger in TX!"

Very good food at a nice place. It is a bit pricey but it is worth. Whenever possible, we try to visit a Beninhana somewhere and this one is very good. It's well worth a visit. Good service and the manager was always around making sure everything was right.

I love hibachi, they are avg, food is good, the portions are too small for the price charged. I ordered the hibachi shrimp, not the large shrimp, there where 6 on my plate. Had to constantly ask for drink refills, the waiter was a no show, once the hibachi chef arrived. Will not return.

This restaurant was across the street from our hotel so we walked over one night for dinner. Because there were only two of us and because we wanted to have a quiet meal, we chose not to sit at one of the open grills - big mistake. The only other choice is to sit in the bar, and there is a very limited menu to chose from. I had the filet mignon which was too tough to chew. I guess if you had a large crowd and wanted to sit around one of the open grills where part of the meal is the entertainment of watching the chef cook, then maybe this would be okay, but we will not go back.

A fun dinner with a bit of entertainment, good food and only restaurant in walking distance to the Westin Park Central hotel

Sadly, this meal was a huge disappointment. If I could give 0 stars, I would. It was a special birthday celebration for my son and brought my family of four. I had a reservation for a communal table at 1:30 and was sat at the very back table with another party of 5, so it was a tight fit. We waited until 2:36 to even begin the meal, I checked my watch. The chef was exhausted from finishing the table next to us. It was very rushed and low key, he seemed to just want to finish. There was no 'happy birthday' or celebration or energy. It was simply sad and unfortunately, I can't do a do-over with my son's birthday. It was far from the experience that I expected. You could hear the staff yelling at each other in the kitchen area and it just seemed managed poorly. I never write a review, I'm very content with things and accept graciously, but this was for my family. I would love to have my money back!!

I do not like leaving bad reviews but I really felt cheated with this one. Do not fall for the beautiful garden and valet parking outside of the restaurant. Inside it is dark and dingy. We did not choose hibachi because they wanted to seat us at a table full of strangers. Instead, they sent us into another room. Here, our table had stains from the drinks of previous visitors. The server gave us sticky menus with crayon scribbles all over the pages. Then he brought a little white pot with soy sauce that had dried up drips on it. By this time we were not sure if it will be safe to order raw fish. The food was OK, no problem there. But for pleasure of this dirty experience we had to pay $75 for 2 meals, one of which was from happy hour menu (which was half price) and no alcoholic drinks. If you are willing to spend this amount of money and want to go to an Asian restaurant, P.F. Chang’s would be a “cleaner” option and you will get more food for the money. If you want to go specifically to a Japanese restaurant, Plano has an amazing buffet “Japan House”. Again, I don’t know how good Hibashi section is but it was not suitable for 2 people, because we did not feel like dining in silence with a bunch of strangers.

7:30 reservation. Currently 8 with no table. Part of the party couldn’t wait and have left. Unclear when it if a table will be available.

I’ve been to the Plano location as well, and this one is my favorite. The Dallas location has a sushi bar, and the regular bar is a lot bigger than the Plano location. The bartender is awesome; we always tip him a very decent amount! The sushi is the best I’ve had, besides at Nobu. I love the Las Vegas Roll and the chili shrimp roll. The hibachi is also good. I love their chicken fried rice!! One time I got the combination with scallops, lobster, and shrimp. I was disappointed with how small and poor quality the lobster was. I suggest sticking with chicken, steak, or shrimp tepanyaki meals. Paying for the lobster is not worth it. I usually skip the soup and salad because it isn’t good. The dressing they use for the salad is too bitter and the soup has no flavor. It tastes like chicken broth with mushrooms in it. The ice cream is good too. The cook we had yesterday was the best I’ve ever seen at any hibachi restaurant! He did a lot of new tricks I’ve never seen before. I will obviously be back since I’ve already been here well over a handful amount of times.

6/13/2015 We were in the area celebrating our wedding anniversary and since we were not able to enjoy sushi the day before I knew we can always count on Benihana so my husband located this location and I am glad he did. The location is in a business like area and there is a apartment complex across the street. When we drove up we were impressed that the exterior made us feel like we were in Japan. We did not eat at at the cooking table but we ate in the lounge area. I ordered the vegetable roll $5.25 and rice for $3.00. My husband had the Sashimi Sampler x2 for $17.00 and iced Tea..$3.00 Our total was $30.58 and we were very pleased with the service and the fresh food.

Had a great dinner at Benihana's. Surf and Meadow, shrimp and steak, was absolutely incredible! The ginger salad dressing is the best. Highly recommended, I mean here every time I'm in town!

We had an awesome experience at the hibachi grill at this restaurant!!! The food and drinks were great and the chef was superior! I can't wait to return!!! The Tropical Delight which includes Lobster, Scallops, and Shrimp is divine!!!

We went to Benihana since we were staying at the Westin .. We just drove in from Houston so we didn't feel like driving anywhere. We've been to Benihana in Houston so we knew what to expect. The staff are super friendly. We waited at the bar since we didn't make reservations the lychee martini was so good .. The wait wasn't as long as they said I think we waited 10 mins and they told us it would be 25+. The food was excellent. I had the steak and shrimp and my hubby had the scallops and steak. Everything was excellent. I want more fried rice!! The cook was entertaining and the ambiance was fun. We will be back on our next trip to Dallas.

My family and I spent 1/2 the trip to this restaurant outside watching the droves of large koi fish. Both my sons LOVED to see them swim and eat. When we were seated, we had a great menu selection. The waitress was very helpful and prepared. When the chief came out, he really put on a show (maybe because there were two little boys). Everything was cooked deliciously and fresh. I was half way full from the appetizers! I would recommend going anytime or for a special occasion.

The environment not the food Normal food I certify that this review is based on my own experience and is my genuine opinion of this restaurant, and that I have no personal or business relationship with this establishment, and have not been

A co-worker and I went for lunch on 7/1/21. We decided to eat at the sushi bar/ cocktail bar section. We both ordered the lunch boat. I went to eat my last piece of California Roll and there was a work under it! I called the waiter over (Cesar). He immediately took the boat from in front of me and took it back to the kitchen. Because it was an open kitchen area, I could see him show the cook and they both laughed. Cesar came back to the table with my check and offered to take $6.00 off! Are you kidding me??? My lunch total was only $13.70. Of course I asked for the manager, he came over and offered to cover my tab but still charged my co-worker for her bill... even though she wasn't able to eat after being disgusted with what she saw on my plate. So GROSS! Do not eat here! Dirty and HORRIBLE service. I will be reporting to the health department.

Had dinner at this Benihana's and the restaurant was very nice and was the food was good. There was the typical chef show that was pretty good. The best part was meeting new people while seated at the table and the conversations.

Benihana has been around a long time. I didn't think the chain was still in existence. When it first opened, there were no Teppan-Yaki type restaurants. It started a trend and now they are almost too common. As someone mentioned, there are not a lot of places to eat in this area so off we went. The place is attractive enough. We were seated at the grill table and had it to ourselves. One person in our party is gluten sensitive and although the hostess tried to convince us soy sauce was gluten-free, our waitress was extremely knowledgeable and helpful in this area. They have, and will cook with gluten-free soy sauce. I am not a big fan of sake, but they have the most extensive menu I've ever seen. The wine list was accessible and affordable. One difference between this restaurant and the more modern incarnations is the inventiveness of some of the things on the menu. I had shrimp with mango for example, which was delicious and not often seen. It came with the usual accompaniments, a shrimp appetizer, white rice, soup and salad. The price was very reasonable. There is also a fairly extensive menu of sushi, rolls and sashimi. If you are used to these restaurants this is not a place I would go out-of-the-way for. If you're in the area it's certainly is a pleasant affordable and reasonable option.

Me and my wife came for our anniversary dinner. We love the atmosphere and very very entertaining chef. The fish pond outside is also a plus. We enjoyed ourselves and left very full. Just wish they had more parking space

The food's good, but the show's the same thing they've been doing for decades. We took some Egyptian friends, because they like really fresh food. They liked what they ate, but between their understanding of English and the cook's poor grasp of speaking it, a lot was lost. You get the sense that the staff is just as tired of the same old routine , too. it will be a while before we try that again.

I eat here onc eor twice each year while in Dallas. The food has always been reasonably good, although a bit pricey. I've seen some complaints about the quality of the steak meat, but I had the filet mignon and it was good, as was the lobster tail that I also had.

In the US, Benihana pretty much invented the showroom Japanese steakhouse and nearly perfected it. It's been copied at many other places since, but Benihana keeps up pretty high standards. We've been here many times for business and family meals. Never been disappointed. If you're in North Dallas and looking for this type of restaurant I don't think you'll be disappointed. Very good, but not great.

We literally waited for over an hour 45mins. Not acceptable. They gave us a free appetizer but then we waited 20more mins.

Opted for some lobster tail, scallops and shrimp for dinner here. Was nice overall, nothing sensational. Quite a big crowd on the weekends if you desire a chef at your table.

Two of us one here for a birthday dinner and we were disappointed especially due to the rudeness of the host. For two of us to eat here it was over $100 which for what we got we felt was expensive. The food itself was OK but the shrimp and steak were both over cooked. The cook put on a decent show except for when he splattered hot grease on my arm and burned me. We were very disappointed overall as this is not the Benihana we were used to. We would not go back.

OK, Benihana is always fun. And the food always seems to be of good quality. This is a typical location. You will have a good time here, as I always do. But how can they elevate it to the next level?

Made reservations online for dinner. We were able to be seated right away but before that we noticed the gift card sale. Buy $200 get $60 free. Highly recommend this if you frequent often. Our server forgot the salads and etinome was brought out late but our food was well prepared other than that.

Went to Benihana for my daughters birthday after looking for a fun place to get dressed up and include the kids as well as adults. I remember when Benihana was a step above the local hibachi places in the area but no more. Beautiful building, Average service, average food, below average hibachi performance. Will stay close to home next time and save some money while getting a better experience.

I was excited to visit, family special night, slow service, not friendly, service was awful, hibachi chef lack of energy, was boring for the price small portions, You will be definitely disappointed.

The restaurant was very dirty, trash on the floors, carpet stained and just filthy. The food was just average with not much flavor and way over priced. There was food particles left on the grill area from previous guest and was never cleaned up even after we were seated. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Food was okay, same meal prep shtick for years, service was mediocre at best. The problem was (and management could have worked this out with a little planning) all the dang little girls that were stuck in the back room for their “party” with two other groups of 8. Management could have easily seated this group of 16 in one of the rooms that accommodates parties of 16 rather than ruin the dining experience for us and the other paet6 if 8 seated in the room with us. These little monsters ran all over the restaurant and around the outside of the restaurant (they were running laps around the outside!). Nothing was ever said to the girls or to the two chaperones who were more concerned about getting their drink on (3 each that we saw) than monitoring the little monster’s behavior. I really never need to go back here. There are other very good Japanese restaurants.

Presentation was top notch as always, but the food was just ok. Mainly went there so my kids could enjoy the show and I really wanted to enjoy the food. It was fresh and hot, just lacked flavor.

Fourteen of us dined at Benihana celebrating a birthday. We had a whole room to ourselves with two grills. I had the steak and "jumbo" shrimp'" My wife had the salmon. The onion soup was bland and more of a consomme than a soup. The salad was OK but was too much lettuce and not enough other stuff. The salmon was very good and the steak was also very good. But the portions were small and the desert selection very limited. Of course the showmanship was part of the ambiance and we enjoyed it. But the portions were small and the price large. Looking at my steak I would say it was about 4 oz. The service was very good and everybody was pleasant. So there was for us many pluses and many minuses. That averages out to AVERAGE.

This was our first Benihana restaurant. We had a nice time. The food was plenty and good. The cook very nice. I liked the sushi very much also. I would definitely go back at this location. The wait was long.

Food was fabulous. We shared a table with one lovely couple and one couple who got mad because they thought Filet Mignon was fish and refused to eat. Oh well. Ours was great. Fairly priced wine and sake, as well.

We had a wonderful experience. Ben the bartender was excellent. We would go back. We had the ocean treasure and benihana supreme, it was to die for.

The restaurant was full, I took a bar seat. Not much of an atmosphere but the two sushi roles I ordered were great.

The food was great, the show on the Teppanyaki entertaining. Service was a bit slow but very friendly.

This place is right across the street from the Westin Dalllas Park Central and got our business more than once during a convention because there isn't much besides a Jack in the Box nearby. The sushi was really quite good and they had a lot of options to satiate our hunger between events at the convention. The service was pretty slow in the bar area but it was still a nice, relaxing and cool space. The restaurant is quite beautiful outside and in. I would eat here again!

These folks just don’t give a damn about service. The practice of filling tables before they will take your order is ridiculous and they are obvious and transparent about it. Needs new management badly.

We as a family have dined at Benihana's around the country for years to include this location in Dallas several times. But I can say they've serviced us for the last time. Kids playing jungle gym in the restaurant all up and down the walls and hand rails. I brought my concerns to managements attention and said I refused to be seated with those in appropriate children and disrespectful parents. Managements solution was to put me further down the waiting list. As I arrived before that party and one other that were parties of equal size and we got passed. I refused to accept the horrible service and walked out. This restaurant is a horrible representation of what Benihana worked so hard to develop. We're done with their inadequate response and the clearly retaliatory handling of my concern being voiced to them was more than would accept.

When trying to make an online reservation, staff was extremely rude and unclear about times and availability. When we walked in to be put on the waiting list, they were extremely hesitant and told us we could leave and our phone would be called when the table was ready. We had to stay on the premises for an hour when they told us it would be 30 minutes. Extremely low expectations.

Been coming here for years. It's still as good and the hibachi chef is so entertaining, no matter who's on it. The spicy chili shrimp sushi is still my favorite starter with apple sake to drink. Chicken fried rice spicy is to die for. It's really spicy!

I called on a Friday needing a reservation for 60 on a Monday. The manager was very accommodating, taking a $750 deposit which I completely understand for a restaurant like this. They guided us to 730pm since they had other bookings at 6-630. We were immediately welcomed. People were seated. They had 5 Teppan tables with 5 Teppan chefs in parallel on time. Plenty of servers available to refresh drinks. I was afraid a dinner for 60 would challenge on a Monday night, but no....really well done. Thanks to the manager and all our servers. All my group had a great time. Manager followed up to be sure everything went well.

I am saddened to leave this review, as I have been to Benihana in Irving and Dallas several times, and have always been pleased. Until now. My co-workers and I had a weekend away in Dallas, and we wanted to start off the first night with a nice dinner, fun atmosphere and drinks. Sadly, our experience did not have any of these characteristics. We made a reservation, arrived on time, and everything went downhill from there. There were three hosts at the stand when we came in, they did not greet us, and they did not give us a wait time, even though we had a reservation. After waiting 25 minutes, I approached the host stand and asked if there was an estimated wait time. The hostess immediately got an attitude with me, and kept snapping back at me, when I was just wondering why we would be waiting so long with a reservation. I asked her if there was a manager on duty, and she said yes, and immediately walked off, and said "you better watch who you are talking to" in the process. I spoke with the manager, and she was of no help. She did not care that her host spoke rudely with me, or anyone for that matter, and offered no solution, or again, no estimated wait time. After another 10 minutes (so 35 minutes of waiting with a RESERVATION at this point), we finally were seated. After sitting at our table for another 20 minutes with no server, no water, no greeting, NOTHING, a few of us got up and asked the bartender for waters for our table. At this point, another girl with our party went to speak with the manager, again, to no avail. When he brought us our waters, we ordered bar drinks, and he took our meal order. He then went and found our server. When our server FINALLY approached our table, he offered no apology, no condolences, nothing. After he walked off, the bartender brought two out of the five bar drinks back (which had absolutely no liquor in them), and told us that there must have been a miscommunication between the hostess and server, and he never knew we had gotten sat. So, when the hostess said to me "you better watch who you're talking to," she wasn't lying, apparently. We were so fed up by this point, so another girl in our party (so now the THIRD person in our party), went to find a manager. She went straight to the kitchen and asked for the kitchen manager. Nothing was changing with the house manager obviously. The kitchen manager offered to make our experience right and offered us two $20 vouchers (which would have only covered one out of the five of us), but wasn't very adamant on keeping us there. We were so angry by this point that we chose to leave. Coming from the service industry ourselves, I am absolutely floored that any place, especially a higher end restaurant like Benihana, would allow such poor customer service. All in all, we received poor customer service from the hosts, our server, and two managers. This is unacceptable, and so very disappointing. I am no longer a fan of Benihana, and that saddens me greatly, as it has always been a fun place in the past.

Made an impression from the moment I arrived. Very good service and the food was very well prepared.

Walked over from the Westin Park Central for dinner with fellow business meeting attendees. It was a Friday night and the place was packed. We were told it was an hour wait. But behold! We could get right into the bar lounge area! Yay! We found a nice little table right away and had great service from a busy server whose name was Nathan I believe. Super nice young guy! We ordered his suggested sushi roll and were quite pleased, the Spicy Sweet Chile Shrimp Roll (I think that was the name of it!) It was very good, quite spicy and very filling. All four of us also ordered drinks which were delivered in short order, especially considering the restaurant was packed.

May 27,2017 We took our grandchildren for the table side entertainment. It was not as expected - lack of enthusiasm. Food ok but for how expensive it was we expected a bit better.

Everything is cooked fresh in front of you. The cooks/chefs are great entertainment. My children loved it. I would suggest one person order a different dish and share it at the end to get the variety of different foods. Don't miss out on dessert too!

We celebrated kids birthdays with friends. The food is excellent. The service nice and friendly and lunch prices range from $10-$15.

DO NOT order a gift card from these people, they WILL cheat you. I ordered a gift card for my sisters birthday (She lives in another state). When she went to use it they said it was NOT valid. Funny my credit card was charged and I had received an email with a confirmation number. I approached Benihana to get an explanation .... that was over TWO weeks ago. All I have gotten is the run around. If this is how they treat people my strong suggestion is STAY AWAY. As far as Benihana is concerned I spent $75 for NOTHING. It is not so much the money it is the fact I got cheated and they have NO interest in trying to make it right.

We arrived around 5:30 for dinner. Since we arrived early, we were able to do valet parking. There were just 2 of us, but another group of 6 joined us shortly to complete our table. The server was quick to deliver our drinks and take our orders. Our table chef was talented and provided a good show. He could have been a little more talkative and interactive with diners. The food was good and we enjoyed watching the chef prepare the it. The other diners at our table were friendly and included us in conversation.

We eat at Beniahana every time we travel. Love the food the atmosphere and the experience Everyone loves this place. You get consistent food at all locations. We’ve eaten at most all over the country. Just Love the place

I have been.coming here for my birthday almost every year for 40 years. I was shocked recently about the lack of cleanliness in the eating areas including the walls, floors, and tables. Also, it took over 30 minutes to bus the table across from us leaving us quite the unappetizing mess to look at during our meal. The chef was fairly new and the food was average. This is not what I have come to expect from Benihana. I will say that our waitress was very good and checked back with us regularly. If there aren’t some improvements soon l will need to find a new restaurant to celebrate special events.

Came here with 6 other guys to celebrate one of them turning 20. The service was great, we didn't have any issues. Our chef was great as well, no complaints honestly, he even showed his dry humor which was funny to me. The time between soup to salad to appetizer and then to the main course wasn't too long and we didn't feel like we had to wait forever. Overall it was a good exercise.

Whenever we have a special occasion for my Son, like Birthdays, he wants to come here! He and my Wife always orders the Hibachi Seared Tuna. I always seem to order the Seafood Diablo and I ask for extra Diablo Sauce. Delicious! Don't forget the Green Tea Ice Cream!

This beautiful free-standing restaurant is a peaceful oasis in a busy part of North Dallas. The wooden bridge and k oi pond just add to the ambiance. The interior was updated a few years ago to better utilize the space and it works. We have always enjoyed the food combinations and drinks choices there, and always wonder why we don't go there more often. It's a great way to entertain and be entertained. Dinner and a show with Asian flair, in a beautiful setting.

Unfortunately, after having many wonderful dinners at Benihana, we had a terrible experience due to bad management failing to offer a simple apology. We checked in for our reservation tonight at 6:45. Due to crowd in the lobby, we told the hostess we'd wait outside. She said fine and they would get us. At 7:15, I checked in again and the hostess said they did not seat us because we were an incomplete party. I told her that was not accurate, we had told her we were all there. So, she lied to cover up a mistake. A simple sorry would have been fine. I asked to speak to a manager to express my disappointment and he said he would check into it. The manager never came back. After dinner, I asked for the manager again. He said he'd taken care of it because he'd talked to his staff and the hostess told him we had said we were an incomplete party. So, he simply ignored us. During our meal, a server had dropped a plate and broken my drink glass. The manager wildly claimed he had taken care of my issue by replacing my drink that had the broken glass. He repeated the cover up story from his hostess that our party was incomplete. Now I am really angry because he's calling our party liars simply because the restaurant refused to simply admit a mistake and apologize. Never got a true apology just cover up stories. It's sad when a service provider will not simply admit the mistake and apologize. The broken glass was fine because the server apologized and fixed it. The late seating was not fine because the hostess and manager refused to be accountable and say they were sorry - without using a cover up story. Incredibly disappointed. BTW the food was great and the rest of the staff fine. Too bad the manager lacks integrity.

Really fancy food. I can tell that it was of excellent quality. Service was really professional and respectful. The only issue is that it’s a little pricey, so visit the place at your own discretion.

This Benihana location is one of my very favorite restaurants. My family has been going there for years and we are always pleased with the food and service. We also enjoy sitting with other people and visiting too. My husband and I used to get our own entrees and always had a lot of food to bring home as leftovers. A year or so ago we started ordering 1 entree to split and then each order a fried rice and one extra soup. That works out to just the right amount of food. Ya'll should give that a try sometime too. It saves quite a bit of money too. We figure we can go to the bar and get a happy hour sake to celebrate. When you order at the bar on week nights they have $2 sakes so my husband and I each get one. Enjoy!!!

I arrived about 15 minutes before my reservation and was seated immediately. As always the restaurant was full, even on a weeknight. I ordered my usual, steak and shrimp. Several at my table had steak and lobster. The lobster looked delicious and was a good size. My steak was cooked as ordered and tender. The shrimp grilled just right. Everyone gets a shrimp appetizer, and either steamed rice or fried rice, plus onion soup. It was all wonderful. For $30 you can't beat the value. Add the entertainment of the food cooked at the table and it makes for a fun evening and it's kid friendly. Service was perfect. My water glass was kept full and the others at the table were pleased with the food and service as well.

I was a bit worried after seeing a string of negative reviews. I guess they fixed things or we got lucky. The place is nice, the food was good, no one left hungry. The service was good. Our drinks were constantly being refilled. Chef was good as well. Typical hibachi, maybe a little better. I was happy. Few points to work on. We had 9 of our ten people, but the hosts refused to seat us. We stood outside for over 20 minutes while waiting for the last person. There is very little waiting area seating. The hosts didn't seem very happy to be there. This is odd as there were a lot of them and it didn't seem like they had a taxing job. Perhaps they could start checking the bathrooms. The men's was fine, but one of the women in the party came out of the ladies refusing to use it as we were leaving. I think they took her to a gas station. Overall, I was happy. It is an interesting location, there is a koi pond with ducks, the food was good, in line with normal hibachi pricing, and the food service was good. Last item, one person in our party ordered something with noodles. There was no comment on this. The chef cooked lots of things. Hers was done separately at the very very end. When she finally got her food, everyone else was done. It would have been nice to know that, she may have chosen to order something else. Not a big deal.

My son took me to Lunch for my birthday. We had a great view from our Hibachi table. Somehow in the middle of the city, they have created a landscape oasis. Our room had a big windows so this provided a very relaxing atmosphere. The food was very good. Our chef did not really interact or entertain us. I was a little disappointed in that but the chef at the table next to us didn't do that either. I personally think that is part of the fun. I would go back again. The lunch prices are extremely reasonable and I couldn't finish my food so the quantity was great too.
Love these places
The chef was talented and knew his business as usual, the onion soup was tasty, chicken fried rice was great, and the Filet Mignon was tender. I have haven't had a bad meal yet at a Hibachi. Use your GPS, this place is kind of hidden, which is a good thing!
