On the advice of friends who live near Bergerac my wife and I stopped by for a midweek dinner to celebrate our birthdays. (Contact me if you want to send gifts.) ;-) The place was very quiet early on a Wednesday. We were greeted by a very attentive, but unobtrusive server. She was very good at clarifying our menu questions. From here all that I can say is that every bite was delicious and complex in taste and in texture, not to mention the presentation was very handsome, but not overdone. My wife had a duck and pork confit with white beans. Each part of that was unlike the other two parts and all were excellent. The duck was the best she's had and she often orders duck. I had halibut in an Edgar sauce with shitakes, crisped squash and quinoa done just right. A few almond (I believe) slivers were in there for texture. We shared an appetizer and a dessert and each had a small amount of wine. To my taste, the French Malbec wasn't as rich and complex as a good one from South American but it was fine. My wife had a French cabernet that she enjoyed. By the glass. We are lightweight drinkers. We will return. You should try it.

Bergerac Bistro is a true French restaurant, more than a bistro. It is modest in its appearance but the food is absolutely exquisite and refined, without any of the usual frills of Americanized French restaurants. A simple room, a moderate noise level, a friendly waiter, the chef coming into the dining room from time to time to greet regulars or meet new guests. A great wine list containing fabulous wines at perfectly acceptable prices (if you are into reds, I recommend the Malbec from Cahors.)

We ate here tonight to celebrate a real estate closing. The food was excellent, particularly the cassoulet! My wife's duck breast was exceptional, with a wonderful sauce. The California Chardonnay was a good value at $24 a bottle. Overall I gave it a Solid B and we will certainly return...

My friend found this restaurant, even though she lives in Portland it was her first visit. Our wait staff Gisela was fluent in french, the music (Django Reinhart) was playing softly, only seats 30, so perfect for intimate get together. The patrons were well dressed and the conversation were kept low, NOTV(what a relief). The menu although not large was plenty and I had "Filet de Boeuf", my friend had "Confit de Canard", we shared fromages and mousse de pâté as hors-d'oeuvres and the orders were served perfectly ! The reasons I cannot give a 5 star review : paper napkins, no table cloth and the silverware were very cheap. I DO recommend this charming restaurant, it deserves to be known and if you live in Portland and you live true French cuisine, this is the place. My friend had a glass of Pinot Gris and one glass of Tour Boise. She liked the wine.

Very disappointing. Food was overcooked and not tasty at all. Nothing close to French cuisine except for a very high price.

My wife and I went for our first dinner here for a prix fixe Bastille Day dinner. My wife had Steak au Poivre and I had monk fish in a white sauce. Both dishes were excellent. They have an extensive wine list at very reasonable prices. We had been to Bergerac previously for lunch and had excellent meals that time also. We will definitely be returning to Bergerac.

Eat here! I opted for the fixed price three course meal, my wife for just the cassoulet. There was a hearty serving of the pate--plenty for both of us. My wine pairing was well thought out and complimented the food.

Fabulous new French Bistro hidden in Woodstock neighborhood. Superbly prepared food beautiful to look at and served by a very informal and friendly staff Prices mid range and a great value. We have had several exquisite meals there. Easy parking.

Good environment and service. Uncomfortable wooden bank. They could put a pillow. French food from reasonable to good. Small and almost no sauces. Duck Confit and Mushroom Risotto very good. I wasn't happy with my dish: Boiled lamb and dissolved “drown” in sauce without any spice or taste. I couldn't eat half. Creme Bullé bons. Bad wine service, even more for a restaurant that says French. Although they had glasses of wine on top of the bar, they brought us shallow glasses of soda to have a St.Emilion. I expected far more from the French Bistrot.

Charming and mellow atmosphere. Unpretentious. Staff makes one feel comfortable and explains, discusses menu choices. Very nice choices for all courses; is affordable and elegant. The owners experiment but cultural pride is widely exhibited in choices of French menu. Great wine list with affordable French wines predominant.

Everyone who came from France appreciate this small boutique restaurant. The owner is actually from France. They frequently offer monthly events and I strongly recommend you to go one or more of those events. Much better than other over-hyped restaurants who charges a way more with too many crowds.

Just returned from dinner celebrating my son's graduation and all I can say is wow, what a gem ! I have traveled through out Normandy and Brittany and the Confit de Canard is every bit as good as I have had there, if not better. We were a party of 12 and 6 of us had duck and all agreed that it was excellent. My wife and sister had the Ragu which is a vegetarian dish and agreed it was very good. The lamb and "fish of the day" was also excellent. I was impressed by the fact that the restaurant served a Pommeau - Le Pere Jules "Plus de 5 ans" which is not easily found elsewhere. It was excellent. The service was top notch and the server was very friendly and knowledgeable. She explained to us how the duck was prepared and was kind enough to show me the cider and pommeau before serving. I would definitely recommend to anyone considering this restaurant.

Regrettably this was our first visit to this wonderful place, I wish we had discovered it sooner. The service was perfect - warm, informed, helpful, friendly and attentive - but not overly so; my ideal of what perfect service should be. The food was outstanding throughout. We enjoyed delicious and very reasonably priced appetizers and small bites prior, their cocktails were tasty and robust - as a good cocktail should be, and our main courses were uniformly excellent. Compared to many downtown establishments (with their wallet busting prices), the fare at Bergerac is very reasonable, a welcome change from recent trends in Portland dining where usurious pricing abounds. We will definitely be back.

We went for a late lunch and have a delicious meal. It is wonderful find. The service was impeccable and very pleasant. I hadn't had escargot for many years, and these were perfect. My husband's beetroot salad with goat cheese was unbelievably good and tasty. Our entrees were wonderful and the pear almond tart was fantastic. We will definitely be back soon and bring friends with us.

Southwest Woodstock Boulevard is blessed with a very French Country bistro, Bergerac. It is operated by a French couple from the south central region of France-- Bergerac-- so the cuisine is very authentic French Country. Staff are exceedingly friendly. Both indoor and outdoor evening dining is available. The menu is updated monthly with a modest list of appetizers, entrees, and desserts. We began the meal with a refreshing drink of lemon, St. Germain and sparkling water. We had pate and beet salad for the appetizer, which was exceedingly delicious. While there were beef, lamb and fish offerings, we both settled on the duck confit. What a delicious choice-- tender, juicy and flavorful with a crispy crust, on an onion jam base, with potatoes and green beans. Best cuck we have had ever! Dessert was lots of whipped cream and chocolate, with poached pear and cookie. This is a hidden gem in an unusual area that is popular with those who have found it. We will return.

We went for our wedding anniversary and enjoyed a delicious meal in a warm inviting space. We had their eggnog cocktail, escargot, cassoulet and crème brûlée. We’ve eaten at Bergerac on different occasions and enjoy their classic French menu

Food, as usual was excellent and service lovely. Adore it when the chef comes out and chats and my husband was totally impressed that he opened the door for him (with walker). Love the really French taste and presentation.

It’s a small intimate space that took me back to the 1970s complete with leggy plants. This was NYE dinner - I had salmon ( overcooked) with bay shrimp so minuscule they disappeared & 5 over done small Manila clams Husband had lamb shank - which he said was okay. Dessert was fine trip of standards. Meal exceeding $ 200 ( for 2) excluding alcohol was okay. I was hoping for a new neighborhood French bistro- this wasn’t it. Wait staff were nice so there’s a plus. Happy New Year

Amazing staff and food. We started off with Beet Salad, Pork Belly, Cheese fondue, and the butter trio. All wonderful and so tasty. For our meal we had Duck Confit and the Lamb both were delicious. I'm so glad we came here the atmosphere was pretty and cozy.

Sometimes a nice dinner out with friends ends up becoming a truly amazing dining experience. And that is the way it was on my first visit to Bergerac. We tasted many items on the menu from appetizers to salads to entrees and of course dessert. All were excellent. The cheese board is a very hearty platter of goodies that is a small meal in itself. The melted cheese pot had several items to dip in it, plus a delectable salad. We devoured it. The escargot was delicious, so was the pate. I was already hooked and would go back again JUST for the appetizers alone. All our entrees were excellent as well, seasoned perfectly and accompanied by savory sauces. If you have room for dessert, go for it. They are healthy portions, so plan to share. From the street, this restaurant is very nondescript. If our friends hadn't taken us there, we'd have never noticed it. Also, the inside is very plain Jane. I would love a week or two in there to decorate and make the ambiance match the amazing food. I can't wait to come back and introduce more people to this gem!!

Formerly Mezza, and some time ago under different ownership, a Lebanese Restaurant. Now formally, Bergerac. Under auspices of young Chef, Joris Barbaray. Locally sourced ingredients, smaller delicate portions with a variety of options. Excellent wine list. Try the herbal teas. Unpretentious and pleasant for the the still middle class neighborhood. Also excellent source for catering. Good weekend brunches.

Everything we had was really good. We had the baked cheese appetizer which we both really liked. Good pours on the drinks! We had the poulet and ragu de champignon. Both excellent. My only issue was it took forever for the server to come back to see if we were finished. It was a different server who finally did and they took our stuff and boxed it for us (made up for the long wait). Desserts were nice. Our tab was $80. Will go back!

My friend and I decided we will try a new place every month! I chose Bergerac!!! Btw you can make reservations ahead of time using Open Table app which I did! We found parking on the street. The place is a small cafe with about 10 tables! Very cute and clean and decorated with taste and with French music seemingly from the SW of France! We were the only one there at noon and felt very special like the place opened up just for us lol! Michelle, was our server and quite pleasant! The brunch menu had great choices and we couldn’t wait to dive in!!! Something I alway wanted to try: ESCARGOT!!!! Yep I did !!! And they were delicious!!! A bit chewy and tender in a bath of fresh parsley, garlic and butter, yummy! We had a pear salad with mixed greens on a bed of blue cheese cream, very tasty; half a basket of crostinis and bread, yumm!!! Also duck confit with onion jam, delicious!!! And the main dish, a quiche, nice with a delicious crust and a slice of smoked bacon yummy and thin ham rolls! Very tasty! Oh and we had a mimosa!!! And Pot au Chocolat dessert, a nice dark and dense chocolate mouse, very tasty!!! A very nice culinary experience! A bit pricey but worth it!

We had dinner at Bergerac Bistro last evening for the second time, and enjoyed it again very much! The "beet root salad" was a highlight, and we shared the larger sized salad offered. It has a thick layer of goat cheese on the bottom with sliced beets and greens on top with a balsamic dressing on top along with sprinkled walnuts. SOOO good!! My husband had the duck and I had the lamb. Both were tender and quite delicious. The bread was warm, but a bit spendy at $5.50 for the number of half slices of bread we got. The staff servers were friendly, helpful, and help make our evening very enjoyable.

Absolutely tasty. Ages ago, you couldn't find any restaurant above 52nd and Woodstock, but Bergerac Bistro has wonderful food. Each of the four of us was truly impressed by each meal: French Toast, Salade de Fois, Croque Madame, Omelet. The one hitch was the lack of serving staff. At noon Sunday, the place was nearly full, but only one server was available for sitting customers, taking orders, making coffees, delivering entrees, etc. So, it was slow. Am guessing someone was out sick. But the food was worth the wait.

The Willamette may not be the Dordogne, but Portland's Bergerac restaurant will give you a marvelous hit of France. Our first visit was with friends who had checked out the small restaurant at lunch. On their good advice, six of us made dinner reservations. The food and service were excellent. Prices were reasonable. We felt welcome and well-served—ready to do it again soon.

Excellent authentic French Cuisine from Chef owner Joris origianally from Bergerac France and his wife Gisella. Outstanding brunch and lunches. Indoor and outdoor seating. Great wait staff. Great dinner and wine menu - fresh local ingredients - good seasonal specials. French comfort food at its finest. Best kept secret in PDX!

What a treat. A taste of French cuisine... and wine from the Dordogne. Our small group did the appetizers: scallops, Pâte, olives, beignets of fish, the camembert cheese platter & bread. Huge portions! The cheese appetizer could feed 5+! Next time we'd plan for one appetizer per person. Wine service needs some work, bread was not classic baguette, and food arrived all at same time so a bit crowded....but it was great ambience, food, and decor. Would recommend.

We went to this little French-inspired bistro last evening for dinner and found they had many possible delicious entrees to choose from, but my husband chose the fish of the day, sea bass, and I ordered the lamb. I will talk about the lamb first as it was so tender and filled with flavor. It came with a potato gratin and crisp cooked green beans, and was VERY good! The sea bass was also quite good in a caper sauce and came with crispy asparagus and a rice mix. To start our meal, we split the beet salad and it was just the right wonderful amount for two people. It had a goat cheese layer under the beets, and a very good dressing on the greens. I filled out a little survey sheet that came with the bill, and when asked if we would recommend this restaurant to friends, my answer was, "OH YEA!!" We hope to return soon to try the duck.

Can't think of any negatives ! Nice, quiet little place. Been here a few times, and the food and service has been very good. We try something different each time, and they always do a good job.

This is a very good French bistro with a limited, but interesting, menu with good choices for both meat eaters and vegetarians. The service is friendly and slow. The sauces are excellent. This is a good place to go if you want a quality dinner in this part of SE Portland. The room is small, but since this is a relatively new place, it is still easy to get a table. Entrees vary from about $12 to $18.

What a gem of a place. Amazing breakfast and super service. We were in town visiting our daughter in Med School and my son and daughter-in-law found Bergerac while looking for a place to have the best eggs Benedict in PTown. Well this place delivered. And the French toast .... it’s a must have as well. Loved the food and loved it super wait staff. We will be back.

We went as a group of seven to try out this recommended restaurant. We were blown away by the many choices, the reasonable prices and the great food. We ordered for appetizers olives, chicken liver pate and baked camembert. All were delectable We had a few vegetarians who loved the Ragu de Champignon. I had the grilled flank steak, others had fish and pork dishes...all were excellent. We are going to make Bergerac a habit!

Very authentic french food in an unassuming environment. The chef was very skilled. Pate, escargot, duck all was on the menu. Quite a number of gluten free options as well. The four of us all had different and excellent meals.

We all spoke in positive terms about the food we had. The service was professional. Our visit with the chef after our meals was warm and pleasant. A gem in the neighborhood!

We went to this charming bistro because it was recommended by Passport Unlimited. What an absolute gem hiding in South East Portland. The waitress, Emily, was very attentive and was able to offer some great suggestions. My husband and I ordered the Lamb Navarin. It was infused with many delicious spices and Marsala Wine. The meat was very tender and moist. It was served with an amazing individual dish of baked potatoes au gratin. They were the creamiest potatoes and so yummy! The string beans were delicious too. Our friends ordered other entrees that they also enjoyed. The husband ordered the Filet de Boeuf, ad praised how tender it was prepared. His wife opted for a vegetarian option. She absolutely loved the Ragu du Champignons with herb polenta and Romano Cheese. Per the recommendation of our server, we decided to forgo the appetizers in favor of dessert. We shared the Creme Brûlée. I've enjoyed many restaurant Creme Brûlées over the years but the flavor of the Bergerac Creme Brûlée stands out as one of the best I have ever eaten! There were several other dessert choices that we will definitely try on our next visit. Our server told us that Bergerac has delicious brunch and lunch options too. We loved this little Bistro nestled in the Woodstock area of Portland. The only negative comment is that they do not offer a traditional salad. We will be back and bring other friends to this little bit of Paris in Portland.

Here's a secret about locals in Portland: like many places we're geographically biased about places we frequent versus places we recommend. Frankly it's tough to keep up with the openings (and closings) while trying to keep that new place in mind, but you are also trying to support the independent place down the street...and of course there is the commute and the parking. What locals call a commute can laughably seem like the same amount of time others just spend on an on-ramp. So when I say we drove 20 minutes to get here from WIlliams/Skidmore some will laugh and some will stop reading. ¡Qué horror! I bring this up because Woodstock is not always on the quick-list for where to go to eat - at least to those outside the neighborhood. But we found Bergerac a delight and plan to return soon for dinner as well. Our brunch party of four had 2 orders of Eggs Benedict, oeufs brouillées, a side of green bean salad, ham, bacon & prosciutto quiche, and a number of drinks as well as dessert. We tend towards brutal honesty when we're together (about each other as well as our food and drink), and all four of us were delighted. All of our main dishes were delicious - in fact I now realize my wife didn't even offer me any of her Benedict! The portion sizes were generous, the flavors were spot on, and everything in general was executed with care and precision. (As a side note - I'm a big eater, and frankly we changed plans from a certain fixed-menu place because I did not want to have to stop for a second meal on the way home. I did order extra bacon but the quiche was a generous portion, and I was being more greedy than practical. No worries - the bacon did not go to waste by any means. No bang bang today!) Our service was refreshingly great; unfortunately I made the grave error of not writing down our server's name but she was the only one working the floor this afternoon. We never felt rushed, our questions were answered capably, and there were no displays of angst or clock-watching on her part. In other words - we felt quite welcome, and all agreed this was a terrific find. Visitors - you probably have a list of too many restaurants to cram into your too short visit. I can vouch for a fair number of them, but wouldn't you rather be the first one you know to go to a place? There's a lot of pressure when visiting here about ticking things off your list, but Bergerac is somewhere you should consider as well. Locals - seriously, this is solid. Get out of your routine, ok? Cheers!

We have been here twice for Sunday brunch. The first time I tried an omelette: the Garlic mushrooms with herb roasted potatoes. Delicious. I also ordered a side of "burnt" bacon . I happy to report it was cooked to perfection. This time, I tried something new, similar but different: the garlic mushrooms and sour cream quiche. Equally delicious. We shared a couple of desserts, which I highly recommend: sorbet with fruit compote and Tarte. Can't wait for our next visit!

Discovered this authentic French bistro for dinner last night. Cassoulet and beef filet with bearnaise sauce were prepared to perfection. Ample and excellent green salad can be shared by two. Helpful and friendly staff. Wine list is well chosen. We plan to return here and sample more of the bistro’s offerings.

Throughly enjoyed our visit. It felt like a casual French experience. The service was great. we had We had two teens who had never had French food. The waitress made sure to ask them questions about what they liked and made recommendations. They were made to feel comfortable with trying some new things. the food was fantastic. We indulged in appetizers, entrees and dessert. Definitely make a reservation

A varied and good wine list, with servers who are familiar with the offerings. From nibbles through dessert, the quality, preparation and presentation is excellent. The restaurant is small and was politely quiet. A hidden gem.

I am nervous about French food in America. A simple dish like steak/frites can come out over-salted, with the frites cold or ... some other horreur. Here the issue was the that the steak arrived well done, not medium rare. In some places pointing out such a misunderstanding can be awkward. Not here. The dish was whisked away and someone provided a nibbles to munch on while the problem was fixed. Very shortly, back came a perfect dish. The wine was great. The other dishes made everyone else happy. Do go. We look forward to returning to this excellent restaurant.

On my birthday my daughters let me choose the restaurant. As a lover of French food, I found Bergerac and thought we’d give it a whirl. It didn’t disappoint. The owner/chef is a charming young man from the city of Bergerac in the Dordogne. He creates plates of food that are not only delicious, but eye-popping. We all ordered different things so we could taste. My dauphinois potatoes were cheesy/creamy, served with thin sliced ham and a mixed green salad tossed with a tasty balsamic dressing. One daughter ordered a Niçoise salad with salmon that was a photo perfect, colorful delight. So tasty and healthy. My other daughter had quiche with a variety side of sautéed mushrooms and salad. We capped the meal with a shared chocolate pots au creme. So many other dessert option that looked great. Service was perfectly timed and friendly too. Bergerac serves all three meals daily, prices are reasonable and on a Tuesday lunch it was not busy. I want to see this place succeed - would eat there every day if possible!
