My wife and I met our daughter and her boyfriend at Besaw’s new location on our last visit to Portland. It has a new modern vibe to the place which is almost the exact opposite to their prior location. The food was still the same good quality as the original site.

The coffee cocktail was delicious but overly expensive. Food was good but nothing special. I had the hash with pastrami and enjoyed it. Husband had a French dip which again, was good but nothing outstanding. Nice building, friendly servers.

We started a 30 block walking tour of NW Portland here, this covered at least 10 places to grab a snack and a drink. Of all the places this was by far our favorite. We had the avocado toast & breakfast hash and both were fantastic. Our waitress was super helpful because it was our first time there. She brought one of the best drinks I have ever had. it had butter-scotched Jameson's in it & it was AMAZING. We also tried a detox drink that had freeze squeezed apple & carrot juice & a fatty shot of tequila. This place is unique & fantastic. Highly recommended.

There is a line inside and out on Sundays so try to go on another day. Great people watching and food.

We stopped here for a quick breakfast bite and the food and prices were pretty good as I recall. I had a Mexican style breakfast and my wife had some eggs, bacon and toast. Everything was good and the service was good. Good stop if you are in the area.

7 of us met for lunch yesterday and sat inside....i had an oj mimosa, and my partner had a bloody mary.....next, i had the besaw omelette and she had a pancake with a side of eggs....the others had a variety of drinks/food...the food/drink was great....the staff were excellent, as it was hopping..the atmoshphere is fun.....thx so much...

We tried to go here for brunch on a weekend, not wise. Super busy with long wait. But we returned for brunch on a weekday and had no problem being seated right away. Though our waitress was kind, she had numerous tables and was not all that attentive. Still, the food was fabulous and extremely generous in size (two could have shared)...hence the high price tag. My husband had the classic Benedict, I had the farmer's hash. It was delicious. (But keep in mind that oyster mushrooms are more tough and not everyone's preference!). My husband (the coffee drinker) didn't have coffee, so can't comment. I (the tea drinker) had tea that was so-so. There were only two black options, and English breakfast and Earl Gray (which is a love-hate tea for people because of its floral notes). Overall, very pleased with the meal, and I loved the modern meets Old West blending of interior design.

Visited the new location on 21st last week and was glad to see the place is as good as ever. The staff are friendly and helpful and the menu offers some great choices for Breakfast which is why I go there. The new venue is modern and not as cozy as the old location but there appears to be more room and it is modern and attractive. I especially like the Avocado Omelet and the Hazelnut French Toast. Their Raspberry Jam on the table is also very good. Good place to take visitors to Portland.

My wife and I visited for a Saturday brunch. We had the grains and greens bowl and heuevos rancheros. The bowl had no seasoning or taste and the grains were undercooked. The rancheros portion was skimpy and unexciting. Nice new location and it was pleasant with the open air seating. We will try again to see if these were just off dishes. But we have had better.

Besaws opened up in a great new location. Twice as large and the food was imaginative and delicious. I had a Belgian waffle and had a choice of 2 toppings. My partner has zucchini French toast with basil anglaise. The prices were moderate also. Loved it.

Great food and thorough menu with enough choices without being overwhelming. Yummy roasted potatoes!!! One thing though: The website doesn’t mention that the brunch menu will be running all day on a Friday, so I had expected the more ‘grown-up’ menu I saw and had chosen my meal already. We sat down at 2pm which is way past brunch, but had a wonderful time nonetheless. Keep doing what you are doing guys, but perhaps add a few finer dishes to your brunch menu for us more serious diners.

I visited the old place a few years ago, and the new place (a few blocks away) is just as good, maybe better. Service was actually better than most places in Portland which was nice, and the chicken and waffles, eggs bene, and sourdough pancakes were all excellent.

Came here on a Wednesday morning because I know how busy this place can be and we seem to be impatient on the weekends. The NW area had experienced a power outtage due to a large fire nearby, but we were still seated and served. Gluten free French toast and potatoes were great, good bloody Mary's and great service. Love all of the windows and although I loved the other location, this one is much roomier and less crowded. Would recommend to anyone seeking breakfast in PDX!

Besaw's was recommended by relatives in Portland so we gave it a try. The wall of the restaurant opens up on nice days as was the case for our visit. Very nice with a feel of an open air Hawaiian restaurant. They were busy at 10 am when we arrived so maybe that was one of reasons for slow service, but the service was very slow. The others in our party had no complaints on their food, but this writer did. The french toast was way to thick causing the batter to not soak into the bread which made it extremely dry. It was about the worst french toast I have been served anywhere.

I ordered the steelhead dish with broccoli rob, radish and potatoes. It was superb! My associate ordered the pheasant dish and I must say, it looked questionable and I felt she was very brave to continue with sampling. She said it was delicious! Good food, limited different offerings, a bit pricy for the portions, but worth the adventure.

Came here for lunch with coworkers. I had the brisket cobb salad for $15. It was good, but not spectacular, especially considering the price. Service was fast, the restaurant wasn't very busy. I know this is the new location of a 100 year old restaurant but the way everyone talked about it I was expecting to really be wowed.

You can tel the staff here loves what they're doing. The place vibrates with a positive buzz and the food is scrumptious. Try it, you'll like it! And get your free cup of coffee next door at Solo Club while you wait in line.

The meatloaf rocked, better than the risotto. The risotto was great, but something about the ingredients in that meatloaf made us lick our plates. Fun, lively place. Waiters very personable, Located northwest of ABC district and Pearl district. Upcoming neighborhood!

Stopped by here for our final meal in Portland and we're very glad we did. On the weekend there will be a wait but they serve free coffee and there are benches outside. The building and neighborhood that Besaw's is in is cool. Very airy. We sat at the bar and the bartender/server was a funny guy. Really positive. They had a brunch drink with carrot juice and tequila, sounded kind of gross but ended up being really tasty. The farmer's hash was one of the best hash mixes I have had in quite a while. Fast service as well.

Above average breakfast offerings and quick, pleasant service. Went the the first day and with no other destinations on our mind, decided to return soon our second day. Pleased both days. At breakfast, I always try the sausage if it is listed as house made. Besaw's makes its own and it was above average.

Went for brunch with family expecting something special as all the reviews promised. First disappointment is that they only have drip coffee, and the food was average, nothing special but ok, our server was a bit on the cold side and not very attentive. Not worth a second visit

Mid morning Saturday is the time for the pretty people of the northwest district of Portland to go to Besaw's, for brunch and Bloody Marys. We waited 30-40 minutes for seating. They take your number to text you when your table is ready, and give you a card for a free coffee at the perfectly workaday coffee shop next door. We were seated at the corner of the bar and waited another 20 minutes after ordering breakfast (nearly lunchtime by the time we ate). I had classic corned beef hash, with two over easy and a biscuit, and fresh squeezed OJ, companion had farmer's hash. Three kinds of homemade hot sauce were offered - red pepper, green jalapeno, and orange habanero. Corned beef hash - loaded with chunks of high quality corned beef, with a hint of sweetness. Plenty of it and delicious but it was overwhelmed with a whole grain mustard that diminished it for me. (I like the classic four ingredient corned beef hash - corned beef, potatoes, onions and butter.) Eggs were fine, biscuit big and hearty, good to convey the hash or the butter and blackberry jam. Fresh OJ amazing. Tasted the farmer's hash, lighter with more vegetables, OK flavor with some badly burnt potatoes. So even though not perfect, so much positive here: lively atmosphere, friendly service, excellent quality ingredients, creative menu. I would definitely return.

Wait time is approx 40 mind on a Sunday morning and you can take a free coffee next door at a sister company to bridge the time. We ordered several dishes and I had the Besaw’s hamburger. Well proportioned and tasteful. By mistake I got a different hamburger first and that one (with the pork) looks and had a little bit of more flavor than the Bersaw’a beef burger.

Some unique Pdx cuisine in an urban setting with occasional snobby, slow service. Sometimes long wait times to get in, sometimes not...make a Resv. Its a "must try" at least once.

By reputation we went for dinner with great expectations. My wife ordered their pizza and a roasted cauliflower. The build up of the pizza by the waiter did not help. Very little topping .... and she only got 7 or so pieces of pepperoni. For a 10 inch diameter pizza, there was only topping for about 1/2 of the pizza. The rest was bare crust. Hard for us to think of another pizza we have had that was worse. The flavor was just ok. Extremely over priced at $16!!! The roasted cauliflower was fantastic. Seasoned very well. Very tasty. I had the hanger steak on nettles. The nettles were very good ..... I would not have been able to tell the difference had it been spinach. The hanger steak was fantastic in preparation. Great flavor and very tender. However, there were like 5 thin slices .... probably no more than about 4 ounces of meat if even that. Very over priced at $26.

Incomprehensibly terrible.cold tough potatoes. A steak knife is provided if you want to cut them.good luck with that. The hollandaise sauce tasted like warm milk with lemon juice. The music was loud and it was way too cold inside

Recently dined with a friend at the establishment for breakfast. The food was good and the service was also. The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere. Order the fried green tomatoes!

When you walk in Besaws has a very welcoming atmosphere. The staff is very knowledgeable and made great suggestions. This was by far the most perfectly cooked hanger steak I have ever had and the polenta that came with it was the perfect pairing. This was a fantastic meal and I know both my coworker and I will go back our next trip to Portland.

Yes, its different from the original. But it's very good nonetheless. Service is welcoming, attentive and fast. Get the Farmers Hash with biscuit. Amazing. Also, some have said portion sizes are too small. I was quite satisfied. I'd rather have fresh, well prepared, quality ingredients than a plate full of potatoes and other fillers. This place is great, just give it a chance with a fresh look.

Besaws was legendary. NOW FOOD ID CRAP and EXPENSIVE. EMBARRASSED. The Menu and Ads all tell a story from before 1900s. OWNERS are LIARS trading on the past. not the original Family, Location, Food or Quality. .NEITHER :Nice smilin waitresses nor upbeat patter from Amanda nor offer of Booze nor Decor will HIDE the FOOD QUALITY and CRAP for a Top Price. CHILQUILES recommended by server, are store bought tastin and factory cut, Commercial spicy chips, ie doritos, with some kinda meat sauce. NOT COOL. Banana Bread French Toast , never saw an egg dip i think, my guest commented "This is not very good", boy was i dismayed, ruined a plan, and a good day. PAID 41 BUCKs plus tip. yeah, for bagged chips and dry tastless bananna bread and two coffees. LOCALs STAY AWAY .

If you knew the original in NW 23rd, it's no longer the wooden floors, cramped kitchen, massive bar and homely feel which gave the original its charm. But it's a worthy successor with much more space and a larger kitchen (which means faster service). It does feel are modern and the music is a little loud for conversation but the menu remains interesting, the bar substantial, and there's always something interesting for dessert - plus really elegant earthenware china. So, farewell to a much loved friend but hello to a good addition to the Portland dining scene, especially on NW 21st.

we visited here for fathers day yesterday. great atmosphere, generous food portions, fantastic quality!

Awesome staff and good food. We waited at the restaurant/bar/coffee shop next door for our table. My phone number had been written down wrong so the hostess came and found me. We ate and then went back to the restaurant next door(same owner) for drinks and chatting with our friends. Wonderful place.

I brought my granddaughter here at the recommendation of the hotel we were staying in. We waited 45 minutes for our food, then I asked how much longer. I had ordered a steak that I wanted medium to medium well to share with my granddaughter, specifying no blood, and a quesadilla from the kids menu for my child. The steak finally arrived and was straight up a plate of blood, the quesadilla was awful, with a very pungent cheese used, so my 8 year old refused to eat it because she couldn't get past the awful smell, neither could I. There was no salad, no sides. This is the worst restaurant I have been to in Portland. We would have been better off going to McDonalds, which is disgusting, but my granddaughter would have at least gotten an edible meal for the money I paid. I highly do NOT recommend this restaurant.

This restaurant has an amazing atmosphere, but lacks a little in service during the busy hours. I would go only if you happen to be visiting during the week. Even then expect relaxed service. Good gluten free options if you are needing that as well.

We were seated immediately and the waitress was quick to take our drink orders. We both got coffee, I got the butternut french toast, and my sister got the salmon scramble. Overall, really good food! We thought the price was right. Butternut french toast was really delicious, though quite dense. Salmon scramble got an A+ from my sister. Atmosphere was homey and comfy. It got pretty busy and loud around 10:00am but we weren't bothered.

Went in for a late breakfast (brunch)— good prompt service and flavorful food. I had the farmers hash, sub veggie sausage, which i really enjoyed. My husband had the Huevos rancheros which was also very flavorful and delicious. We shared the waffle and it was warm and chewy with the right amount of crisp on the edges. We both had delicious bloody Mary’s.

We enjoyed brunch here. Service was excellent and the waiter offered great suggestions (after hearing our leanings), which turned out to be just right for us. Try the zucchini-bread french toast- it was something unique and delicious. Everything else we had was as good or better than your standard upscale breakfast fare, and the price was mid-range.

My spouse thought her "classic benedict" was different but very good. The flabby fried potatoes were not. My huevos rancheros was reasonably tasty, but not the greatest. This, the place that introduced us to Portland's wonderful Secret Aardvark hot sauce, now has their own house made sauces - three flavors - and fantastic. Pepped up the huevos rancheros nicely. We didn't have to wait for a table at 9 am on a Wednesday, but it looked like all of the tables and most of the bar seats were occupied while we were there. We miss the funky - but nonexistent, old location - the food just tasted better there.

We have made it a point to visit Besaws for the past 12 years when we visited our family. We waited in lines at the old restaurant, followed them to their new posh digs, and was disappointed that much has been lost, forgotten, or ignored. The menu has changed. Some favorites have changed (like salmon hash), but the food was generally tasty. The most disappointing aspect was the level of service that has declined from fast, friendly, and informed to laconic, indifferent, and forgetful. We waited an unreasonably long time to be greeted by our server. She took our order and returned in short order to tell us that she had been distracted by other servers and had forgotten our order. We repeated our order and when it was served several items were missing. Throughout our meal our server was indifferent, barely concerned with our satisfaction or apologetic for the order problem. And, yes, worst of all, my tea was lukewarm.

Still finding it's rhythm. Had to wait a long time for the meal to appear. Fish was good, duck confit tasted good, but was dry and cold. A waiter tried to take my wine glass away before I was finished. Also a little pricey for the neighborhood. To her credit, the manager came and asked to hear our comments. She listened carefully, said they were working on everything and comped us some desserts.

We had not been to Besaw's in their new location and I'm so glad we revisited. The same excellent food and very good service has successfully transferred to one of our favorite Portland dining establishments. I can't wait till the weather is nice again and we can take advantage of the expanded outdoor seating options.

Very fresh and delicious..and loved the space! Drinks that featured Oregon spirits were a highlight!

This restaurant was worth the wait for brunch. They don't take reservations for under six people so on a Saturday morning early, we still had to wait an hour to get in. They provided us with complementary coffee next-door which was nice. The food was absolutely spectacular. Oversized and over-the-top. Everything from eggs Benedict and pancakes to asparagus sausage frittata to brown butter mac & cheese.

I am sure this restaurant will get into the swing of it but for now they need to focus on the details. The bar is chaotic and they short pour their drinks. At least the Manhattan I had was short by at least an oz. the main courses were average but Dustin will more than likely get it right very soon. The porchetta was ok - an entree that could easily be replaced, while the cod was very good. It's nice to have Dustin Clark back - bring back the wood oven roasted mussels!

Met some friends here for lunch. Ordered the chicken salad sandwich with heirloom tomatoes- this was the special of the day. It took everything I had not to lick the plate after I finished the sandwich. The location is very comfortable, the staff is attentive, and the food is great. Definitely try this restaurant.

This was my go to spot in downtown for business breakfasts, sadly, they had a bastar& for a landlord. GREAT food, great service, lots of creative dishes. Looking forward to them reopening in a new location ( as are many other Portland residents)

First meal of our Portland visit so it set the standard. Great Korean BBQ Chicken & Waffles for brunch. Great vibe & staff.

With proper reservations and warning, we (10 of us with children and two babies) entered for brunch. The Staff couldn't have been nicer. Not only were the children taken care of but the staff went out of their way to make sure that everyone got what they wanted. The food arrived timely and well prepared. It was good and everyone was satisfied. If they did this well with our instant crowd, just think what they will do for two or four of you. Try it. You'll like it.

My friend and I walked from Northrop Station, where we stayed overnight to Besaw's for breakfast. Rather than wait for a table we ate at the counter in front of the kitchen. Couldn't have asked for a better seat! Our desires were accommodated with a smile. I asked for 1/2 skim and 1/2 2% milk and got it. I wanted to sample the apple cider oatmeal with hazel nuts and lemon curd and got it. The food (eggs benedict) was excellent! One waiter was singing and spreading his joy. He let me sing with him, to my delight! As I said in the title, it was a joyful experience!

We were looking for a brunch spot and we read good reviews of this place. Our wait to be seated was short, the staff was friendly, we got a nice table. We ordered our food, got our coffees, and waited. And waited and waited. Other people sat at nearby tables, ordered, got their food, we still waited. And waited. After almost an hour, our server came to the table and apologized profusely - she got busy and never put our order in with the kitchen. She was mortified and said she’ll cover our meal. She confirmed the order and we got our food within 15 minutes after that. Food was delicious, we were starving by then. We had a nice brunch overall, even with the crazy waiting, but when the check came we were once again unhappily surprised. We were charged for the meal, with 50% discount, but still charged even though she specifically said she will comp the meal. We appreciated getting a cheaper deal, sure, any discount is always nice, but at the time we were expecting more, since we were told it would be covered. That was not cool. The whole experience was less-than-pleasant in the end and left us feeling a bit off. We didn’t argue about the check, but it wasn’t handled right by the staff. Still delicious food, though!

I have been raving about the huevos rancheros since I got back from this trip. Every ingredient delicious! We also had waffles with various sauces veery good too.

We had a great dinner here. The menu isn't extensive but everything is tasty. The setting is pleasing to look at and comfortable. Check the address -- TripAdvisor had it wrong but a helpful local directed us to the new location a few blocks away.

The breakfast here is one of the best breakfasts I have ever had. They make their own ketchup, and it's delicious! The coffee was good. Food was amazing! If you are in Portland, you have to eat here. Service was great too. My coffee cup stayed full.

This was our first stop in Portland after leaving the airport. It was close to the local Inn. We visited in early afternoon. Plenty of seating at the bar and the tables were noted. Our booth was wonderful. Loved our friendly, efficient, knowledgable server too! The craft cocktail list looked good and we asked our server for a recommendation. The Derna Sour was delicious! I enjoyed the Noble Oatmeal stout with the flavorful winter chicory salad and smoked fish (yum!). We asked for bread to go with the libations and received hot, crusty whole grain toast - so mouthwatering good! I've made dinner reservations!

I moved to the Portland, Oregon in the late 1980's and Besaw's had been here long before me. Even then we had to wait outside for a table as the line formed down the sidewalk. It was hopping morning, noon and night. Over the years, I often avoided the lines and chose another restaurant. Thirty years has gone by and Beasw's is in a new location with much more space. It's in a beautiful building in Slab Town where the glass walls open up on nice days or you can get cozy in the rounded green leather booths. It's got a lot of style and space. I prefer breakfast at Besaw's where you can order plenty of your favorites but we've also dined recently in the late evening. Both times of day there was no wait and we got a booth when we requested it. The menu is more upscale now and photos will show you the style well. If it's been a while, or if you've never been, it's time to give Besaw's a try!

Went there for brunch for the first time and were not disappointed. The service was great, drinks were really good ( bartender came back to fix a drink she made wrong for my sister that we didn’t notice ) food was really good. I had the chicken and waffles that were delicious and so spicy

We will be back, even if it is to just see Cody! He was wonderful! Seriously. the food is fantastic. If your meal does not come with a scratch biscuit, you need to order one. I had the hash, husband had the benny. Craving it in the middle of the night now!

After being seated our server provided coffee and then ghosted us. Shortly after that, the music volume was cranked up to a ridiculous level. Asked the waiter to have it turned down so we could speak with an elderly relative and he said “ after the owner leaves. He likes the music loud. It never decreased.

Well worth the 45 minute wait... To start, I'd like to commend our server Josh on his attentiveness and all-around affability... He truly set the pace for an amazing meal yet to come, where lackluster flavor was made up for by human spirit. Hip location near up n coming part of downtown, offering free coffee at neighboring cafe while you wait for your table. Once settled, Bloody Mary and Mimosa were mediocre at best, no spice in my Mary, but a few savory toppings (pickled beet, pickle, and olive). The bruleed grapefruit half was only $4 and outrageously tasty, topped with creme freche whip cream and mint leaves....I wanted another! In fact, I still do! Stuck between the Butternut Squash French Toast and some form of their mouthwatering Brisket, Josh helpfully concocted my own special meal with half the French Toast serving and half the pan fried brisket. Great move on his part since I enjoyed even more of the menu than my gut would usually allow. This was without a doubt one of the best pieces of French toast I've ever indulged in so happily with flavor that still evades my vocabulary. The brisket was also pretty fantastic tasting, albeit a bit salty towards the end of the serving (which was plentiful for only $6). My girlfriend and I shared the Brown Butter Mac n Cheese, which I would rate lower on the spectrum of culinary creativeness, yet still quite delicious... We are snobby with our Mac n cheese choices though. She enjoyed a vegetarianized version of the Classic Benedict on their flaky, buttery, beautiful biscuits... standard Hollandaise and toppings, still damn good! Reporting only that her potato wedges were not very warm at all. The food and service, in my opinion, warrant 5 stars...she rated more of a 4, but Josh indelibly made up for any setbacks with his upbeat behavior and find-the-answer attitude. Thank you Josh! See ya next time! Best, ~S

Since moving to their new location, Besaw's has arrived at casual fine dining. There really is no comparison between the former and current incarnation. We sat at the kitchen and would never sit anywhere else. The Terrine for starters was fantastic. Duck breast and a hanger steak for main course were equally elevated. Wine selection perfect for the menu. We can't wait for our return.

We were apprehensive about going to the new Besawd in SlabTown because the old one had such character and history...and the new one is built in a brand new building. But much to my wife and my surprise the new one exceeded expectations. The food as always was delicious. All the ingredients are locally sourced and crafted to perfection...I was totally amazed that the aujois garnishment for my hot sandwich never coagulated...even later when I ate the leftovers at home (now that's pure!). The servers still had their character and we felt very comfortable and well taken care of... I would recommend going there in a heartbeat!

Breakfast was awesome. The only down side was the 45 minute wait to be seated. However, they did have complimentary coffee in the adjoining coffee bar. Especially liked the Great Korean BBQ Chicken & Waffles and the Farmewr's Hash. Service could be stepped up a little....

The new place is really nice , but the food is not very good and the menu is a "Brunch" menu even on Monday morning meaning your breakfast items are limited. I did not notice until my food came that there was no toast included , one bite of the potatoes was all I wanted, as it had vinegar or some odd cajun spice on them. They looked something you would get on a buffet , not that fresh. Next I tried the scrambled eggs. Must not have used butter as they were not fluffy and rather tasteless, and not scrambled that well as lots of white egg thru out. The sausage was juicy but had no taste. I might have skipped them but then I would not have had anything to eat!

Amazing service, food, and value. Best eggs benny I have ever eaten. Most everything was from scratch, served with attitude, and lots of it in both cases. Funky place, but fun!

Food was great- you won't leave hungry. Place gets busy on weekends. They have coffee outside while you wait.

We were able to walk right in last Monday (holiday) around 9 am and sit at the bar. Service was fast, huevos rancheros and fresh fruit were fantastic! Husband had a BIG plate of food that included a lot of sausage, eggs and English muffin that he also enjoyed.

We went here for a 21st birthday celebration. The ambience was pleasant. Cold drafts plagued us as we sat at a middle table. Service was fine. Having been told they specialized in comfort foods, I ordered the meatloaf and thoroughly enjoyed it. The fried chicken was good but slightly oversalted. The young people thought the burgers good but overpriced. My son-in-law sent back the medium-rare steak he ordered, saying it was still mooing. When it came back, it was very tough. Overall, we were disappointed.

After confusion of our reservation at another establishment, tried this place on a whim. Found service to be pleasant and efficient from host to waitresses, meals served hot and timely. I would recommend.

Hadn't gone in previous trips but tried today. Nice, varied menu with unique twists. Great service, nice food, nice decor.

Three of us ate dinner here. All had different dishes--duck, vegetable pastiche, lasagna--and all were excellent. Portions were a good size--neither too small or too large. One person had a good & interesting ginger non-alcohol drink & another had a good but different cider. Service was friendly and efficient. There was noise in the restaurant, but not so much that we couldn't carry on conversations.

Besaw's new location at NW 21st and Raleigh is certainly upscale, but my breakfast, or "brunch" was every bit as good and down home as I remember from the historic location. Service was good at the bar, but not outstanding. Millennial wait persons seem to be easily distracted. Anyway, my breakfast was simple, a huge fluffy buttermilk pancake and some fairly lean, but slightly undercooked, bacon. Of course, now that I know where to find them, I will dig deeper into their rather extensive menu. Enjoy!

Our friends, locals in Portland, introduced us to Besaws this morning. We all enjoyed our dishes and were wonderfully satisfied when we left. A little disappointed in the brisket side order as it was dried out -probably sitting in the warming tray too long. But we'll be back!!!

We were in early for Sunday brunch and were surprised that half of us were served barely warm food. Sent those back. Waitress returned soon and said these are hot. But the potatoes were still cool. Sent back again. By the time they were back everyone was finished eating. I noticed that all the plates were cold. Hot food on cold plates not a good combination.

Visiting from out of town and had heard of Besaw’s. 1st breakfast the food was terrific, service was provided by an unfriendly somewhat sarcastic waitress. Went back a 2nd time for breakfast, because the food was that good, and unfortunately had an even worse experience at the bar from a different waitress. Very unfriendly, unengaging, no interest in what we needed or how we were doing with our meal. Because of that, and because Portland has a lot of great food choices, we won’t be going back. 2 strikes and your out.

Our hotel recommended Besaw's for lunch and we are glad they did! We loved it! Sat at the bar and had a wonderful breakfast - with a perfectly made Bloody Mary. Great service - big roomy booths and tables - open and airy. Order the hash and eggs Benedict - so so good!

We had a wonderful brunch. Everybody liked their meals (eggs benedict, rey rey chili rellano burrito, the breakfast burger and the eggs with brisket..). However, the meal took a very long time to arrive and it was remarked that the plates were not so warm. I don't know if this was the fault of the kitchen or wait staff, but they appeared to be overwhelmed. It was VERY busy. The interior of the restaurant is very welcoming...very open and bright with high ceilings but the sounds are muffled giving the restaurant a very solid and comfortable feel. We will return and I expect the kitchen will have improved so that we can give the restaurant an excellent rating.

The reason for this visit was to meet up with a group of people before we went to a lecture. We had a booth which comfortably fit 5 adult people. When we got there one person had to leave and there were two of us who joined the others that were already there. The server was quick on his feet and was able to help us rotate the items around the table so that we could start our meal. The server was extremely knowledgeable of the menu although he did have to ask the bartender about some of the beer selections. The food was came quickly and was delicious. I will be back.

Went to the new location for the first time last week, and not only were we not disappointed, we were thoroughly impressed with the way the owners have carried forward with a few nods to the old location in their beautifully decorated new place! The menu has changed slightly, but the food is fabulous, the drinks are perfect and the service is still top notch! We were there for a late breakfast, and the avocado toast is SO delicious! I could eat waaaay too much of that! Thank you to the owners for maintaining the high quality of everything in your new location!

This is a historic restaurant that offers some different takes on menu offerings. The portions aren’t large especially if it’s an appetizer. The food is high quality and the preparation is very good. The service was ok. They almost forgot to serve one person. Drinks are good. We were here a little early on Sunday for dinner and it wasn’t busy at all.

We both ordered their chilaquiles and they were excellent. Nice atmosophere, the decor is great and the waiter was attentive but not overpowering. I liked their coffee which for me is a big plus at breakfast or brunch.

We had breakfast early at the new location for Besaw's. Service was excellent and food was good - but higher priced than we remembered from old location. Very family friendly - lots of babies/kids.

First of all, tripadvisor has the old address for this place. They have been open at this new location since January. I actually found the correct address on Yelp. Now for my review. I love this place. First time I ate here was at the old location. It was awesome. The menu is completely different now at the new location however it's incredible. I had the farmer's scramble. Amazing! If you are in Portland, visit for breakfast.

My husband and I really enjoyed our meal. I ate the gluten free French toast and my husband had a egg hash. We ate at the bar and the staff was very nice and attentive.

My son and I went to have breakfast and will not be returning. First the good... the waiter remembered my name, even as we left. Now the not so good... Very few breakfast choices. At least 50% more like 75% over priced (six inch pancakes at $4/ea, two eggs, two slices of bacon, about 1/2 cup potatoes and no toast, $14) Had to ask each time we wanted a coffee refill. Is it their way to say, "You have overstayed your welcome."? Though waffles are on the menu could not get a "Plain Waffle. As my son commented on the new location... "In 100 years this location will not have any ambiance near what the old Besaw's had." Welcome to Yuppy, Pearl District PDX.

Four of us were there for an early New Year Eve dinner. I have been having a lot of digestive problems, but our server patiently went over the ingredients with me. It was delicious and so was the meal for the other 3 guests. My husband ordered the old fashioned fried chicken dinner and loved it.

We have not been back since Besaw's reopening week for dinner. The staff from the original restaurant is still here and very friendly. But, our group could not find anything on the menu that was unique compared to other local NW restaurants. The tap beer offerings was marginal, but good selection of bottled beers. The lack of naked chardonnay was, also, an issue with a couple in our party. On the plus side, They do have some nice desserts.

Had reservations but waited 50(!) minutes for our table. To make up for it they gave us 4 biscuits for a party of 8. Waitress had a long conversation with people she knew at another table while we waited to get our receipt and credit card returned.

We enjoyed flawless service....wish the food was as good. Prawns were partially cooked, potatoes were overly garlicky and the onion tart was cold with warm spots. Dessert was great though. With so many other choices in the area I would probably not give them another try.

We just visited Besaw's new digs for the first time for brunch with friends. The environment is open, bright and airy. Our wait-person very patient with our questions etc. Everyone loved their meals and cocktails, particularly the "Michelada", a beer-based Bloody Mary type of drink with a smokey spiciness. Eddie's Huevos Rancheros and Rey-Rey's Breakfast burrito were big hits. One small criticism....when a patron asks for an egg over hard & crisp, the yolk probably shouldn't be liquidy! Five stars if it weren't for that darn egg....and the waitperson clearing the table who did nothing when it was mentioned.

Whether you plan to eat a meal or just have a spectacular cocktail, this restaurant is always a winner. Food, service, ambiance, drinks are outstanding!

Fantastic brunch spot. The food was high quality and the service was excellent. The cocktail bar next door was intriguing as well. Bravo

Besaw's offers both brunch and dinner menus with a variety of entrees for every pallet! We recently enjoyed a family dinner at this amazing restaurant with everyone in our party sharing entrees..... it's THAT GOOD! We ordered the Russet Potato Gnocchi, pan-seared Duck Breast, grilled Miso-Marinated Hanger Steak and friend Chicken (and Waffle) dinner entree. Our food was cooked perfectly and arrived at our table piping hot with amazing flavor. The service overall was fantastic! The restaurant setting has a lot of ambiance, very welcoming with a great layout and decor. I highly recommend stopping by Besaw's for their amazing brunch service as well.

My husband and I came here for brunch. I ordered the farmer's hash (scrambled eggs, cheese, onions, spinach, broccoli, bacon, potatoes) and it was truly enough for 3 people. In fact, I took it with me, and had it for lunch too. The biscuit, made from scratch, was ginormous! My husband had 2 eggs over easy with honey pork, which tasted like pastrami, and fried green tomatoes. We had to wait about 10 minutes to get seated, but it was worth it.

We were recommended to try this place from several friends. We had farmers hash, waffle, biscuit and gravy, and sausage. The mushrooms in the hash were hard. The waffle was just ok. The biscuit and gravy was delicious and the sausage was very dry. But the coffee, ugh. Some of the worst I have had. We even told the waitress and the manager and they said that we may not have the right palette for it. We definitely weren’t impressed by the food and wouldn’t return.

Dinner with a group of friends. I had pork cheeks. Others had the duck breast, tortellini and Besaw's board. Service was a touch slow (but we did have a large group). Food was average. Nothing really bad but nothing really special either. My pork cheeks were served in a bowl with brown gravy -- not as I would have expected. For "comfort food", this was expensive. With so many other options, I'd have to say I'd pick something else next time.

I, like a lot of people, looked forward to Besaws opening again. The biggest disappointment was the fact that so many of their delicious menu items, the items you have known and loved for years are now gone. The choices are very limited. Their is more staff, but the service is much slower. We sat at the counter that face the kitchen and you could see the kitchen staff was very disorganized and flustered. Our food was cold and took forever to get. Sorry to say that one of our favorites is no longer.

Besaw's has been a NW Portland landmark for since 1903. The restaurant relocated a few blocks from it's original location and re-established itself into a more modern yet maintaining much of it's original charm. The food was very good and ambiance very friendly and casual. The brunch was very good, especially the zucchini French toast. Their bar in the restaurant and sister bar around corner are great meeting places for friends or family. The service was good but not fast. The parking was more convenient than the original location. Overal the experience and food was very good.

The wait on a Sunday was not bad, about 20 minutes. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was excellent. The atmosphere is great, and not too loud. All around it was a lovely time.

Met up with friends for an enjoyable brunch. The atmosphere is fun and a little quirky, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Had the zucchini bread French toast and chicken apple sausage; both were very tasty.

Made reservations for an early dinner. When we arrived the place was nearly empty. Having nearly the entire place available the hostess asked if we wanted to sit at the bar or a table(?). She then offered us the first table by the entrance. I asked to be seated at a booth. Certainly the bar area is acceptable -- and quite lively-- just not for us having made reservations. Moving on... The meal was ~good -- certainly not amazing and the reason for my rating. Yum: Crispy brussels spouts salad is charred so it offers bold flavors. Their collard greens are done well. Good sized pieces of bacon are included. Good: Fried Chicken is tender and has a good crunch to the skin. Burger -- it's a burger. Not so good: Their smoked jalapeño mac lacks the flavors of the peppers as well as any smoke and is slightly runny. Their roasted beet salad had more of a pickled flavor than roasted.

Had two eggs over with homemade veggie sausage. Eggs cooked fine. Veggie sausage was crisp on outside and totally mushy and stringy on inside. This is also one of those "you are so lucky we let you eat here" attitude restaurants.

We have been away for quite some time and looked forward to brunch here. The new place is not quite like the quaint original. It was not as cozy and the food was not as homey, nor was the staff. We were sad with the change, though understand. Hopefully, our next experience will be better and tastier.

I have been at the old Besaw's, but this is the first time at their NEW locations. It was Sunday morning, and the place was packed, (no reservation less than 6 people) and there was about a half hour wait, so they asked for my phone number and said I could go next door to the Solo Club, (they own this cafe/bar also) were you can get a cup of coffee or what ever) while you wait and they will call you when our table was ready. This place is a great location, and the architecture is so modern and fresh, no wonder it was full!!! We lucked out it only took about 10 min., I think, and we were seated, were given menu's and coffee right away, and when I asked could they make a veg. omelet, no cheese, no potato's, or biscuit, (trying to shed a few pounds) she answered yes, with a smile on her face. I think that the service and food was great and will come back again, (maybe I can have their butternut squash french toast next time, ha ha....).

the weather was great and we were able to enjoy eating in the open space at the corner of the restaurant- the food was OK, but not exciting - service was good - the restaurant is attractive and well located - street parking generally available

We had a very nice meal here, and had wonderful service. This city has so many great food places, it is hard to compare. What makes this place great is the neat history, it was first open during Prohibition and has been around and renovated but cool history.

I had wanted to eat here for quite a while. I suggested this place for a low key anniversary meal. The restaurant is cute inside. I do like the decor and artwork. The server was friendly, and the food was okay. That’s about it. Oh! Apparently the dessert sundae was the highlight of the evening, but I did not partake. Everyone working there was pleasant, so I think I’d give it another go, perhaps for brunch instead.

We had wanted to give Besaws a try since it's move to a new spot. Quite an upgrade. the space is light with a good size bar in the middle and a mix of table and booths. We were seated right away and were greeted by our server. He brought us water and took our drink order. The cocktail menu is a bit limited, but the bar area seems to have alot of good choices to have something made. We chose a duck appetizer that came with crumbly pita chips, strawberries and pistachios. It was weird, but really delicious. our Entrees were a scallop special with amazing scallops and a delicious risoto. Also we had the pork cheeks, which were a couple of good sized pieces with sunchokes and lettuce. The food was all very fresh and delicious. Our server did an excellent job of checking on us and making for a great experience. We brought our own bottle of pinot and got tagged for the $15 corkage....a shade high considering the wine list was a bit limited. Over all, it was a great experience and we will try it again

We sat at the bar and our server was fantastic. She told us about places to visit that only the locals would know. The food and drinks are great. Will definitely go back when in Portland

Awesome and interesting butternut squash french toast. It is shredded and Incorporated into the batter. Great atmosphere and friendly, helpful service. Definitely check it out if you are in the area.

This really deserves 0/# stars. Was there @1ish for brunch. There were 6 people in the entire restaurant. Wasn’t sure if I should have taken it as a bad sign or if I caught a lull between crowds. Turns out, it was a bad sign. The bartender was also my waitstaff - which was perfectly fine with me. I asked about the Bennies - if the Hollandaise was homemade or from a package. I was assured that it was homemade in house. Perfect, then I’ll have the Dungeness Bennie. So everyone else in the restaurant already had their food, so I figured mine would arrive quickly - but it did not. Which made me worry. During my wait, I noticed a front end employee flitting hither and yon (whom I heard someone call Mohammad, and he answered) moving around papers and diaries and other whatnot, then appears next to me only to start putting away clean dishes. I asked him when was the last time he washed his hands (and I mentioned the flitting, but didn’t see where he had washed his hands). He chuckled at me and left the area - but not my sight. My Benny finally arrived with nearly hard boiled eggs (cold), REFRIGERATOR COLD crab, English muffin not even toasted, and topped with PACKAGED hollandaise. About this time I notice fruit flies circling me and the bar area. It’s a sure sign of poor cleaning habits. NO one came to ask me about the meal - NO ONE. I finally got the barkeep/server’s attention and told them the Hollandaise was packaged. She seemed shocked, but before I could tell her of the other problems, she bolted off into the kitchen and never came back out. I assumed she was embarrassed when the chef confirmed the Hollandaise was from a package. Enter Lady Manager, who came out from hiding to *berate* me about the Hollandaise being homemade. I told her it most certainly was not, and further, there were many other problems with my Benny - which is why it wasn’t even half eaten - so I mention fridge cold crab. No toasting and no seasoning, eggs almost hard boiled….plus the packaged hollandaise, not to mention the “home fries” were days old and microwaved; thus inedible. Lady manager said “Of course the crab will have been kept refrigerated once it’s cooked” So I asked her how many days/weeks ago it was cooked, because most places cook it “to order”/have it ready on the steam tray so it’s fresh/hot!for customers. She refused to answer my question of the age the crab I was served, and went back to harping on homemade Hollandaise, So I told her to have the Chef come out and tell me that the hollandaise here is homemade. She refused and said there’s no argument here because she already told me it was homemade. I stated SHE was not only lying to my face, but it was HER being argumentative and irate. So between her bad attitude, and bad food, that’s why there’s only 8 people in here at prime lunch/brunch time. (A couple had come in after the bartender/server ran off and hid). So Manager Lady walks away, back into the kitchen and “Filthy Hands Mohammed” returns to touch clean glasses with his filthy hands, which he’d been nowhere to wash since last time I made him stop touching clean glassware, as I was clocking his movements around the front of house. So I told him to put the clean glass he’d just picked up BY THE RIM in the dirty pile and go wash his hands before I called the health department. He finally went into the kitchen - ostensibly to wash his hands - tho I never saw him again. But Manager lady reappears again with my bill - the FULL bill, even charging me $4 extra for the olive brine I saw bartender/server pour with her fingers inside the rim of the jar to hold back the olives. Receipt pic posted below. Pic of meal can’t convey fridge temp crab, et al, (must carry a thermometer). RL review: 0/10 Would NOT recommend in any circumstance. Filthy handling habits, extremely rude staff/mgmt, bad cleaning habits because: fruit flies, xxx??? Days/week old crab, poorly prepared/no respect for the food, packaged sauce, and $4 for olive brine contaminated by the bartenders hands. Would not go back.

I guess we arrived about the perfect time …Saturday before 8:30AM and we were seated promptly at the bar as per our request, and service was fantastic. I got the Benedict with Canadian bacon, the eggs were cooked to perfection, the hollandaise was just right and came with potatoes which I didn’t eat. My husband got the hamburger that is pork with the bacon that is beef topped with an egg, substitute the potatoes (that we don’t eat) with a portion of pastrami. That was a great piece of pastrami, created as a hash brown, crunchy on both sides and kind of shredded. Our friend ordered Chicken & Waffle and that was fabulous. The place was getting packed, people waiting in line was unbelievable and we were not surprised. This place offers great service, fantastic food and a lovely ambience for any pick of the day. Helpful tip: get up early and you get fast seating and great service

I loved Besaw's at its old location on 23d & was looking forward to the new location on 21st. I persuaded friends to go. First, they had a long waiting list at 9:00 AM & did not make it clear to the person putting down our name that they would text. He thought they would call. Forty five minutes later (their estimated time to be seated), we checked back. Since the text had not been answered, they had given our table away. We sat & waited. There was an table open for almost 10 minutes which we asked about having. They said it was being held to create a table for a larger party. Ten minutes later, they seated us at the same table. We had already looked at the menu & were prepared to order. I got chicken fried steak. It was incredibly tough and stringy. I had to saw through it with the steak knife & had a difficult time chewing it. I have had chicken fried steak other places where it cuts like butter with a regular knife. The potatoes & biscuit were good. Person 2 had the huevos rancheros. Despite the menu saying it was served with "tortillas," implying more than one, it came with only one and the overall portion was small. Definitely not a filling meal. Person 3 ordered the breakfast burrito. It was a large portion, but primarily stuffed with potatoes as opposed to chorizo & the other ingredients listed. Person 4 had the spicy chicken sandwich. It was large but not super spicy. The vinaigrette on mixed greens salad was primarily vinegar & did not appeal. This was persons 2-4 first time at Besaw's. They will never go back. After my recent experience, I doubt I will go back either. Besaw's had a good thing & the place is packed, but our food wasn't great & the hostesses were not overly friendly.

We tried the new Besaws and anticipated a great experience. The new building is wonderful and the environment is inviting. However, that is where our positive experience ended. First. A girl brought us water, poured it for us and left the table without a word. We did not know if this was our wait staff but felt odd about the silence. Second, The menu was odd for an 8 am breakfast time only a few breakfast items. We ordered the classic eggs Benedict and the waffle. We have never been served an eggs Benedict with an untoasted muffin in the past anywhere, and even checked it out when we got home and found no recopies that included an untoasted muffin. The waffle was OK, but when we asked for some syrup, it came to the table cold. Third, we asked if we could sub fruit for the potatoes and were told 'of course' but not until the check came did we discover that there was an additional $1.50 charge to do so. Fourth, although not terribly busy, it was a challenge for us to get someone to refill our coffee. Finally, returning from the bathroom past that kitchen area, there was screaming by the staff of obscenities. "What the **** do they want?" Not real classy. The food was OK, but nothing special, especially for Portland. I can produce better in my own kitchen. And, the prices are very high compared to similar restaurants and quality. All in all, there is a lot of work to do before this will be a restaurant worthy of Portland.

This was a "looks interesting, let's try it" moment - food was great, especially the meatloaf, the waiter was wonderful, and the atmosphere was very pleasant - obviously a neighborhood favourite - we were staying at a close by hotel, and the short walk to the restaurant was delightful; a great find, and one to return to in the future.

I met two friends for lunch and the staff were helpful and very attentive. The menus is a little limited, but all the dishes sounded interesting and delicious. Two of us had the multi vegetable hash that came with a huge, mouth-watering biscuit and real jam. The restaurant is very modern and nicely appointed. Like many open, modern restaurants, it is a bit noisy. Parking in that area is nearly impossible, but our water said that should be remedied in the future with designated area in a lot across the street. For now, take mass transit. The 77 bus stops 2 blocks away.

Besaw's reopened last week. We are glad they are back! A friend an I were there for dinner. We sat at the little bar area in front of the open kitchen. It was a lot of fun to watch the kitchen action and the wait staff do their thing. The service was terrific! The wait staff is very knowledgable and attentive. The food was terrific. We both had the steak special with pumpkin puree. The steak was perfect - tender, juicy and very flavorful. The pumpkin puree was nicely seasoned and quite delicious. We split a slice of carrot cake for dessert. It was very, very fresh. The pistachio addition was very nice. The icing was rich and buttery with a hint of citrus. The menu is a bit more sophisticated than at our old haunt, but you can still order the meat loaf, burger and fried chicken and waffles. There are good vegetarian options. But if you like steak.... well, you have got to try it!!!! The new ambiance is lovely. The decor is wonderful. From custom gorgeous wall paper that absolutely pops, to the lights and booths, it is beautiful. While everything is new and the old Besaws, old, the feeling is warm and inviting. Yes, Besaws is BAAAACK!!!!!

After being run out of their 100+ year-old location, the priceless NW Portland breakfast/brunch spot re opened on Raleigh in a truly updated, snappy spot. I recommend it on the transformation alone. New chef, we were told. Menu limited, sauces bland, eggs poached to perfection, muffin was like cutting a brick, Bloody Mary was marginal (too much useless garnish), service from Josh was top drawer. This guy doesn't disappoint. Parking was easy but we are told it can be a killer. We sat @ 1:30 p.m. on a Saturday. One drink $9. Egss Benedict $12. Rancheros $11. Not too bad. Home fries were unimaginative. Breakfast needs to flavorful, crisp, fresh, great toast/muffins and if they do sauces, make them great. Walking out with a ticket of $38 inc. tip seems steep. Waffle House lets you go for $15 and you can't wait to return. The environs are great, the staff is super and the food is okay. I am waiting for a break-out for this new space. Value is okay burt not great. They will struggle with price points for a while. Competition is intense and they will have to adjust with quality and price. But, I give them props for service which is one of the most difficult components to full off week after week. Welcome home, Besaws!

On a Sunday morning the wait for a 4 person table is about 40 minutes HOWEVER they do allow you wait next door (Solo Club) with free coffee. They do not have morning reservations. Both Solo and Besaw’s have beautiful decor and an interesting menu. For the less hungry I suggest the waffle - choose the lemon butter and anglaise crème for delicious toppings! If hungry I strongly suggest the pork burger with beef bacon (yep- beef bacon!!!) it was devilishly delicious. The cocktail selection was also tempting - Rose Negroni was a winner or you can have a classic freshly squeezed mimosa. Breakfast for 2 with a drink rag was $52 (includes tip).

Met our granddaughter for brunch and Besaw's was THE place. Had to wait but enjoyed the people coming and going along with the conversation. Lunch was arrived and included sandwiches, eggs, avocado toast, and more. The service was excellent and the atmosphere fun. Going back soon.

Great breakfast food -- avocado toast, oatmeal, biscuits -- all with special ingredients you wouldn't expect. Coffee is good too.

The menu was well rounded without being too big and the food was so good! I will definitely recommend this and will go back next time I'm in town!

Visiting family in PDX and we went back to Besaw's in the new 21st avenue space. This place has great brunch options with healthy and interesting twists on old favourites. Huevos rancheros, zucchini french toast and biscuit sammich of the day were Portland fresh, tasty and well proportioned. Endless coffee was piping hot and up to PDX standards. Not overly expensive and a great option for a nice start to the day. Full bar available should you need some hair of the dog. Remember, only two credit cards per table... :-)

My partner and I came here from brunch this past weekend and wanted to give this place a try given it's history in Portland and the reviews it has received. Overall we both though the place and the food was "okay". It wasn't bad, it's wasn't good, it was overall pretty basic. This was disappointing because the location is great, it is nice that they send you to the coffee shop next door for a free coffee while you wait. That said the service was extremely slow. It took such a long time to get our meals that we lost 3 hours of our day between waiting for the table, getting the table, ordering our food and getting and paying for our food. The avocado toast was the best part of brunch. As I said previous everything else was just okay.

I normally write only positive reviews unless the food is uneaten by my husband and myself! Our first experience today at Besaws was in an outside patio (construction noises banging; dinner probably not as bad). Noise and rain wouldn’t matter if food was good! The breakfast options may be better, but the Reuben sandwich had all corn beef, very little kraut and cheese, dry and over toasted. I couldn’t finish mine! The plate was filled with quartered potatoes that seemed warmed up as they were hard and dry. After two bites we left them. What amazed us that the waitress never ask why we didn’t eat any of the potatoes; the tea and coffee were good!!

My sister and I visited the Portland area for a few days. A friend recommended Besaws so we tried it. I had the breakfast burrito. It was packed full with delicious vegetables and meats and topped with guacamole. So delicious. My sister had the Apple Oatmeal. It too was delicious. A slight twist on oatmeal as it's cooked in apple cider. We would definitely visit Besaw's again on our next trip.

This place is 10/10 for atmosphere. Great for fun brunch with friends. Was not busy during week day and it made for a fun morning - brunch and then on to botanical garden. Portion sizes are big.

First time visit was outstanding! A short easy walk from good sam hospital. Fast service and good food. I had the farmers hash and loved it. Served hot and full of meats and veggies. Wish I had tried Besaw's sooner. I Will return on my next visit and I highly recommend you try them as well.

The food was very good here and I loved the atmosphere!!! We had really good service, although I wish I could remember our servers name....she was really nice!

They had just opened up in their new location. I was happy to see that the menus still has some of the old items. Some new faces but good food at breakfast.

This was my first time at this new location. Although it doesn't have the charm of the old Besaw's, I like the layout better. Unfortunately, I was disappointed in my buttermilk pancakes. I ordered off the a la carte menu- 2 buttermilk pancakes and bacon. My pancakes were a little burned and didn't taste that good. The bacon was a little under done. It was $5 for 3 strips of bacon (thick cut) and I'm not sure how much they charged for pancakes (listed as $5 but I'm not sure if that's for 1 or 2). I wouldn't mind the prices if the food was great. Service was very good. Coffee was average. My friends got ricotta lemon curd pancakes ($11) and oatmeal ($7). I'm not sure why the lines are down the block on weekends but I think they could do better.

Lovely restaurant space. Great service. She had the French onion soup. It was really a great take on an old classic. I had the crispy chicken sandwich (11.00) loaded with chicken breast. We each had a craft beer and walked away for 30.00 total. We will be back because someone has a great touch in the kitchen. Plus t hey treated us really well

An institution in Portland now serving dinner. The charcuterie was excellent and the meals obviously lovingly prepared.

We are in Portland for the birth of a grandchild and dropped in to Besaws for dinner on Valentine’s Day. Food was great with great service and recommendations for dinner. We had a cheese board for appetizer and for dinner had the scallops and fried chicken. Both were great. Chicken was 4 pieces so would have been enough for 2. Coleslaw with the chicken was a little lacking .. Definitely recommend Besaws

Great dinner! We were searching for a place close to where we were staying and are so glad we found Besaws!! We had meatloaf and hangar steak - so yummy - service was great

We visited for breakfast, the restaurant was easy to find but parking is a hassle. My fiancé ordered the belgian waffles which came with two sauces, the waffle was heavy and not at all crisp, the sauces were very good, the lemon curd was tart and fresh, the basil creme anglaise was very interesting and fresh. My ricotta pancakes were heavy, but appropriately so and the lemon curd was once again a very tasty option. Besaw's is just okay, there are a lot of other options out there.

Went on sunny spring Sunday morning at 10am. Were quoted 40 minute wait for 2 for inside, but they were just starting to open the tables outside and we were willing to take either. About 30 minutes later, we finally got seated (no clue why they took so long to SLOWLY seat those 8 tables outside, was weird). Ordered the special bacon & avocado eggs benedict that came with rosemary potatoes and was really good even tho the white part was still on the raw side, but ate it anyway. Hubby had the Farmers Scramble that really needed more egg to other ingred ratio, but was still decent. We ordered the side of fruit that was chopped up apple and pear with some dried fruit, and while it was fine, nothing special and wouldn't order again. Drip coffee was also pretty good. While our meals were perfectly fine, I'm not sure why there are so many people willing to wait for this place. There are better in town.

Each month we meet for brunch and pick a new spot. Finally we decided to try Besaw's. Opened in 1902 and still in business should tell you they got something right. It moved and re-opened last year in the area Slabtown. Parking is hard to find...it is NW after all. The breakfast Eggs Benedict was good but not my favorite. The Omelet my friend had was great and they were happy to make it when it was not featured on the menu.

We sat at the bar and ordered mimosas. They were a great bubbly to juice ratio. My husband ordered huevos rancheros I had eggs Benedict. The potatoes with my eggs was the best part of my meal! We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I asked twice for more water the second waiter told me he probably wouldn’t get around to it. I recognized all the staff were busy but after enjoying our meals it was a little disappointing.

The food was very good, atmosphere was also very nice but the service was slow. Nice people working there, unsure what took so long. The food is damn good too! All around impressed; hopefully service is quicker next time.

Anxiously awaited the reopening of this favorite restaurant and the new awesomely rated chef and was deeply disappointed. The service was terrible and the food was cold. Despite people walking around and looking as if they were interested in the customer experience not one person, the waiter, the bus person, the food runner, the guy walking around just looking at everyone- assume manager- or the host asked how the food was. The person that picked up our plates, which were still full of food, obviously uneaten, did not blink. Very, very disappointing. I rarely write a bad review, but this is well deserved.

Food was good, wasn't amazing. Service was ok, restaurant is very cute and trendy. We had the farmers hash which was good but not super flavorful. The French toast was too sweet, I could only eat one bite. Biscuits were the best thing, coffee was actually not very good. A popular place but not one I would regularly go to.

The new Besaw's is upscale compared to the old Besaw's - which was a Portlandia kind of place. The food is still interesting but seems more complicated. It feels like they've lost their old customer focus.

First time to Besaw's, but was told by our dining companions that this is a new location. They have some issues in the kitchen and/or with the waitstaff. One dish came out 5 minutes after all of the others did, leaving my wife to wait patiently while the rest of us started. Another side dish ordered by our friends didn't ever show up, and the waitress never picked up on it. It was only when the bill came that we realized it didn't arrive. Food was great, nice atmosphere, but they really need to improve the service. Note that we had reservations (available for parties of 6 or more) and they seated us precisely on time. Others had to wait 40 minutes for Saturday brunch.

It's an excellent spot for breakfast after a run in the city and up in the hills. I recommend the Caprese breakfast 🍳. The service was quick, with coffee refills, and they accommodated a few changes to the order. The atmosphere was laid-back, with a DJ.

Group of 12, great service. All breakfasts were delivered promptly. Friendly staff. Average drinks, food tasted good but none were reported as outstanding. A good experience.

This place had a looonnnggg wait, but it's food was really good. You can tell why the locals deal with crowds. They use avocados a lot, which makes me happy. The coffee was decent, and the atmosphere fun. I would definitely recommend it.

The wife and I visited Besaw’s for a Sunday breakfast. We waited 30 minutes for a seat, and it was worth it. The wife selected a mamosa to go with her breakfast burrito and my chicken/ waffle went well with my Bloody Mary. Everything we consumed was incredible. I never had fried chicken with a waffle before, so I can’t compare it, but I can tell you my plate was clean and my stomach full. The wife crushed her meal as well. The wonderful waitress suggested our meals and was super friendly. We live 4 hours away from PDX and don’t get up there enough. When we do, we will go to Besaw’s for breakfast.

Besaws has really stepped up to the mark in this restaurant glutted city. The new transformation is delightful - totally different from the old. I had the special starters - strawberry gazpacho & pork belly on greens. Very rich but very satisfying. A little goes a long way. My companions had the hangar steak and the trout. Neither would share with me so they must have been satisfied. No bread served with the dinners which we all missed. Especially since food delivery was a bit slow. That was the only reason I subtracted one star from being perfect. A few more wine selections by the glass would have also been appreciated. Terrific knowledgable service.

A long wait but free coffee and worth it. The breakfast burrito is fabulous. The cinnamon bun pancakes a treat and the pecan smoked pastrami sandwich delicious. Friendly service.

My children took me to Besaws for Mother's Day! While the wait was long (75 minutes) and reservations were for parties of six or more, it was well worth the wait… (During the 75 minutes -we ran around downtown for an hour.. got Stumptown, voodoo etc.. ) when the table opened up early, they called us and said they would hold a table for us since we are only five minutes away… Now to the food! I am a big lover of avocado toast and try to be creative on my own, but I have to say the avocado toast at Besaws was amazing. Ken's artisan bread/avocado/ sunflower seeds/feta and radishes. Simply delish. Service was fast and friendly! Can't wait to go back for dinner or sit at their bar for cocktails!

We joined friends as a party of five for Saturday breakfast. By the time we were seated it was lunchtime. Thus it goes with a well known restaurant moving to a new space. coffee was provided sidewalk side for our wait. Once seated our waitress was superb, prompt in taking order and the brunch was very good. There were two takers on the original Benedict, Farmers scramble with fresh biscuit was a hit. The side order of a pancake was something between a Swedish pancake & a regular cake = favor + texture were memorable. We will go back again as the menu is known to change seasonably. RESERVATIONS are now being taken and suggested. Evening hours 7 days a week make this future visit attractive. Full bar and the Bloody Mary's had plenty of life.

We arrived at 12:20 pm for Sunday Brunch and were told it would be a 35 minute wait, but we were seated after 20 minutes. They gave us a choice of Chef's counter (with view of the kitchen) or a regular table. We chose the counter and enjoyed watching the folks in the kitchen weaving in and out, flipping, tossing and garnishing. They seemed to be having a good time. The brunch menu had many tempting options, and we were both happy with our choices. I think of breakfast/brunch food as being either sweet (pancakes, waffles, pastry etc) or savory (eggs, hash browns etc). My impression was that Besaw's strength was on the savory side of the equation. The service was friendly.

We came here for brunch and had a wonderful experience! The foods were great and the service was excellent! I would highly recommend this restaurant!

We love going to Besaw's on a monthly basis. They have great food and service. They have a local garden and use many organic foods. They have the best coffee as well. We had to go before they closed down for the summer, they will be relocating and hopefully opening soon. It will be difficult to wait for our favorite breakfast. This place is the best.

From the moment we entered the doors, the staff were friendly and very helpful. The menu was amazing and it was hard to choose among the many tasty looking things. I think there was something for everyone. Chicken Waffles; Biscuits and Gravy; Mexican-style dishes and eggs and pancakes. I decided on oatmeal with caramel, walnuts, and granola. It was delicious! thank you for an amazing morning!

Where to start... With all the hype about the rebooting of Besaw's, we decided to see how they made the transition to their new location. We kept tabs on each new setback in opening dates over the months (the day after they opened the home page of their website still talked about the opening in late summer). Though not a favorite, we did like the ambiance of the old location and the food was ok, so we were willing to give the reincarnation a try. We can now say that it was definitely not worth the wait, and we won't be back. Obviously, the old setting is no more. The modern building, while nicely decorated, screams gentrified yuppiedom, a far cry from the past charm. Big surprises in the menu: "brunch" options (at 8:00am?) are very limited. And the prices are well above what would be expected, especially when we discovered the food we got for our money. One of our party ordered the eggs benedict, raved about in a previous Besaw's review. Though the ham was quite tasty, the meal came barely lukewarm. Perhaps this stems from the fact that the foundation of the dish was a cold, untoasted English muffin - huh? Service was fair - friendly, but rather inattentive, with a long wait for an initial greeting from the server and an even longer wait for coffee. Truly, whatever was there is gone. Portland has too many good options for excellent meals, including breakfast at numerous other locations.

Went at 10 a.m. on a Monday. Surprisingly crowded. Brunch entrees at our table of five were all good. French toast topped with granola was tasty (the small cup of basil anglaise was odd). Croque Madame and Farm Hash were delicious. Try the early-bird drink: Crater Lake Hazelnut Espresso, vodka, cold brew, orange bitters. It was good. Would return.

Awesome food here, great staff, and a perfect mimosa! Loved the atmosphere and the food choices are not huge but really really good/local/well done items. Brunch/breakfast all day, plus some great lunch dishes too. Can't wait to go back and just stay all afternoon next time!

Oh my goodness it was good! Lemon pancakes with pork apple sausage links. Farmers scramble with homemade biscuit. The new restaurant is open, well lit, inviting, friendly and well worth a visit. The menu is unique and the portions are large. It was the perfect place for the family to gather for a Fathers Day breakfast.

We had a very good dinner here. First of all, we understand this restaurant is old Portland but moved recently to a new location. Beautiful restaurant but not the old Portland some natives miss. I started with a Granny Smith salad, which was INCREDIBLE. Really delicious. Only complaint: It was served on a plate that was too small. As the server placed it on the table, some of the salad fell on the table. It was also hard to eat (without making a mess) until I had eaten about 1/3 of it. I then had the crispy fried pork tenderloin, which was good although the meat was a little dry. My husband had a roasted beet salad, which he enjoyed although he said it was a little salty (and he uses a lot of salt). He then had the meatloaf, which he said was very good but not as good as the Ina Garten meatload recipe we make at home. Our son had squash empanadas (and a starter I can't remember) and his fiance had cod, which was a small portion although delicious. Our server was terrific--just the right blend of professional and friendly. The dessert menu looked terrific--we were just too full to partake.

Besaw's is a fantastic place to get brunch, they have delicious food, great drinks, an active bustling atmosphere and offer outdoor seating. My team and I will often head over here for our lunch meetings and during the week it's quick and easy to get seated. On weekends you may have a wait for brunch though (pretty normal in Portland), so just plan on that. Last time I was there I enjoyed the cobb salad for lunch, but I've also had the farmer's hash, breakfast burrito, and huevos rancheros which were all awesome! I suggest the green hot sauce for the savory dishes and I'm pretty sure they make it in house.

It has been years since I went to the old Besaws and was thrilled that they decided to reopen in a new location on N.W. 21st and Raleigh. We came for a late breakfast mid-week and found that while the staff was very welcoming, they seemed to still be working out the kinks of operating in their new location. I was sad to see my old favorite "Brie and Eggs" was no longer on the menu, I was very happy with the "Farmer's Hash" with bacon, caramelized brussel sprouts, potatoes, eggs, and cheddar. Plan for a lengthy wait on the weekends.

If you liked the old Besaws, you should like the new one too. WAY more room and of course the place was packed. They open early, 7 am and do a brunch-lunch menu. We were here for lunch. My mom got the farmers hash. So good, I don't like hash normally--but is it usually so chopped up you can't recognize what you are eating. This was oven roasted fingerlings, onion and brussel sprouts. Came with bacon and scrambled eggs over the whole thing, and a scratch bisquit. Really good. I got the pastrami sandwich. Huge thing. Ate half and was stuffed. Great meat, and pretty to look at with the purple cabbage. Came with super thing house made potato chips, you could eat a plate of those alone. Usual service from the staff. Good--not super friendly tho. Try it.
Beware the "kids' corner"
My husband and I love going out for breakfast and lingering over that third cup of coffee as we catch up on conversation. Not to be at Besaw's. We were seated in the back corner next to a table of noisy toddlers that were quickly replaced with another set of noisy toddlers. Obviously, this corner of the restaurant is reserved for noisy young families and we must have looked like the sweet older couple that "wouldn't mind." We did mind and couldn't leave fast enough. Spoiled an otherwise nice breakfast spot. The coffee was hot and boldly flavored. The breakfast dishes were good, though slightly overdone in the sense of looking like assembly line "gourmet." If we do come back, it will be closer to the 7:00 am opening time and/or we will insist on a table up front.
