Excellent seafood!

By dscheel |

Cute setting, great wait staff, and superb seafood! The scallops and shrimp were perfectly prepared and beautifully presented. We ate at a Michelin starred restaurant the day before Betty Lou's and the entire party enjoyed their dinner at Betty Lou's more :).

Great food, atmosphere and service. Just what we needed to end a great day in SF.

Nice local find with great food, service and in the middle of a busy section of town. We stopped in last minute and had a great meal. The waiter gave great recommendations and we all enjoyed our meals. Sit near the window for great people watching and see the city go by. Would recommend.

Fabulous find in North Beach

Had dinner at Betty Lou's tonight. Lou greeted us with enthusiasm and seated us at a great table with a view. Enjoyed our meals very much. Food was delicious and reasonably priced. Great service!

Worth a visit

By Carol U |

Husband & I dropped in on this little gem of a place. Cannot understand why she doesn't get more reviews. I had one of the 'specials' round nose sole (similar to baby halibut) so no bones, with with lemon & capers ( my choice of dressing) absolutely gorgeous, with potatoes & veg. Husband had risotto. the prawns were so big, he enjoyed his as well. You get bread on the table before hand, again very tasty but we were pre warned, its addictive once you start eating it, so watch out 😀

Great Italian Seafood

By Olga B |

The best Chopino is here. They asked if you want the pasta inside or at your side. I asked for it on the side. The Chopino had, mussels, clams, crab, fish, scallops , maybe more seafood, that I can't remember, in this delicious sauce, and you can have the pasta with it. It was unbelievable good. We had raw oysters, from the east coast and from the west coast, wonderful and oyster shots. The crab salad was delicious and the fish of the day, with garlic butter was great. The food was excellent. It was great to see Betty and Lou in their new restaurant. The service is great and they treat you like family. Wonderful experience

Betty Lou's is delicious!

This new restaurant is a family affair-- two sisters as co-owners/chefs/maitresse-d's and their kids as servers. Menu is focused on seafood and is not extensive, but everything is wonderfully prepared. Word is out-- this is the place to be, so be sure to make a reservation.

Mikes wok crab

By tsam1 |

Best food you can eat. Incredible staff, servers bus person cooks hostess. They make you feel at home, and as if you know them and they you. Food five star. Catch of the day fantastic. Salads fresh and tasty. Mikes wok crab must try if you like crab. We went back a second time for the mikes wok crab. We have dinned in many north beach restaurants and many others in San Francisco and This place is at the top of our recommendation. Betty Lou's

Awesome food in a friendly environment- just try it!

Betty, Lou and Hector started this restaurant a few months ago and it's truly an old world, family run place in a world of tourist traps. The food is fantastic, the service is great and the prices are more than reasonable. Trust me. You can't help but enjoying yourself. We had the seafood linguini, the ribeye and several glasses of chianti. Multo bene!!!

Absolutely great!

This restaurant has only been open 4 months, but is really great. It was so great that I went twice during my week visiting SF. Both times the food and service were excellent and the prices reasonable for the quality. I believe it is family run, which is nice to support. I highly recommend the seafood linguine with pink sauce instead of the standard white - this was a recommendation of the waiter and a good one. The only downside is that they have not added dessert of coffee yet. Make a reservation- they get busy.

Genuine hospitality and wonderful food

My wife and I arrived without a reservation at a busy dinner hour and the hostess graciously made room for us and welcomed us into a jam packed restaurant. We had a great dinner in a great atmosphere. The waiter helped us with suggestions that were spot on. We have a few dietary restrictions and they made it all work. The hostess and the waiter checked on us regularly but without intruding. Great place and great fish!

Warm Reception for out of towners

By RejuvinateandThrive |

What a wonderful time we had. We met Bettylou and sister! She even photo bombed up. Welcome aside the food is incredible. The Sand dabs unheard of by us were a juicy white creamy fish. I hear that the potatoes that came with them were the "best ever", I do not know my dinner mate was not sharing:-0 I had the Mike's crab, although the ginger and soy were good I kind of favor crab on it's own. The team went out of their way to customize a pasta and seafood combo for our other table guest. This meal was our restaurant highlight for three nights in San Fran.

Fantastic Food --- Great Service

By Dennis Atkinson |

We recently visited San Francisco as our stay-cation since we have been reading that San Francisco is opening up. Many of the restaurants are still not open, but we found Betty Lou's was open for both indoor and outdoor dining. If you are looking for fancy surroundings, then Betty Lou's may not be your place; however, if you are looking for absolutely fantastic food, a great wine list, and superior service - then Betty Lou's is your place.

Really nice

Unassuming place in a fun and funky neighborhood. Small and Italian-centric. Beer and wine only. No hard alcohol. No coffee. No desserts. No problem. Go! Eat!

Excellent Seafood Dinner

By SLG101 |

We were staying 1 night at Fisherman's Wharf, and I didn't want to eat at an overpriced touristy restaurant. Found Betty Lou's Seafood Restaurant on yelp, called at 2:30pm to make reservations for 4 at 7pm that same day. We took an Uber from our hotel as there's only street parking if you can find one. The bread they served could have been softer, but the fried calamari was the best we have ever had - slight lemony taste - delicious. We ordered the seafood risotto, clam chowder, and sautéed prawns & scallops in a garlicky butter sauce with collard greens and potatoes au gratin. We shared our dishes with the kids, and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Meals run from $22-$45. The hostess was extremely nice, and service was good. Would definitely recommend this place.

Best Seafood Restaurant in SF

By Brenda K |

SIRI says it's the best seafood restaurant in San Francisco. We had to agree. Although I don't eat calamari, my husband and our friend said it was the best calamari they had ever had. I'm gluten-free and they accommodated me quite nicely. The fish was fabulous and the crab was amazing. Thank you, Betty Lou's for a great job! We will be back whenever we get to San Francisco.

Good price versus quality

Good food and friendly people. Firsts restaurant to visit a second time. I’m sure I will go there the next time I’m in San Francisco

Holy smokes, you need to go here

By comfortwanderer |

While at a breakfast only diner in the tender-non, my boyfriend and I struck up s conversation with a friendly Irishman who took it upon himself to give North Beach recommendations. This was one of them and I'm so glad. The owners were incredibly gracious. The motto here is "always satisfied, never hungry." If you love scallops, go for the scallops because 1) they are good value 2) every bite was incredibly delicious. The house white wine is incredible, and the ambiance of the restaurant was so sweet. Great service. I want to come back when I'm back in the city. It's hard to be perfect when you're a new restaurant--this one is on the way!

Great neighborhood restaurant

This is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant in North Beach. Great cioppino, seafood pasta, and risotto.

Best food and place

By ETog |

We went there for a dinner, the reception was very nice, warm and funny. The lady that recepte us as very nice. We tried the Cioppino, a mix of seafood, was amazing, made me eat like crazy, I recommend to ask for bread to eat with the sauce. Impressive restaurant, recommended.

A must visit restaurant in San Francisco

By Debroz1111 |

This was our first time in San Francisco and it was our Uber driver who highly recommended this place; we were not disappointed! Betty herself was so personable and made our experience memorable. She even walked out of the restaurant after dinner to offer that we wait inside until our Uber ride came. Our server, Kate was equally amazing. When I asked her what the restaurant was known for, her reply was "We make everything with love". She has to be one of the best servers we have ever had - genuine, personal and very accommodating. Both my husband and I loved our dishes (he had seafood and I had the vegetarian risotto). Both were delicious. We would highly recommend this venue for anyone wanting a delicious meal and a cozy atmosphere.

Went back with friends

Our friends had never tried Betty Lou's donor was our honor to introduce them. Cioppino was amazing. The Risotto was delicious And my predictable husband got the lobster ravioli which he loved. Great location and atmosphere. Service impeccable.

Bad experience

By Laura193 |

My friends and I were wet protesters (in our 50s - teacher, firefighter and health care worker - dripping and we had a sign) and stood outside deciding whether or not to go in as Betty Lou's is a new restaurant in North Beach and we are frequent North Beach diners. One of the owners opened the door, and instead of welcoming us in, yelled to tell us to get out of the front of her restaurant or she'd call the police. We were taken aback and enjoyed a kind reception at a restaurant across the street where that owner found us a place to help us stash our sign and our wet jackets. Our $100 was much better spent elsewhere. Betty Lou's was not welcoming to the variety of people that San Francisco businesses will certainly encounter.

Good food and service

By bcrisp2 |

We took an out-of-town guest here for dinner. She wanted fish and my husband wanted pasta so this was the perfect place. His tortellini, her fresh salmon with the house sauce and my sautéed prawns and scallops were all delicious. Our server was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. We really appreciated the neighborhood vibe. Definitely will return.

Great Italian seafood restaurant

By Renee T |

Super fresh seafood, quick and fun atmosphere. I’m giving 4 stars only because our server entered in the wrong meal for my husband so we had to wait for his meal. She was very apologetic and offered him a free beer (which he didn’t want). It would have been nice if they would have taken an appetizer off our bill when he said he didn’t want another drink. Regardless, if I were in SF again, I’d totally go again.

I had an amazing dinner: oysters, crab and shellfish risotto. So much yumminess in one night! Right price for quality offered. Fully recommended.

Seafood restaurant

Visited Betty Lou’s tonight after reading good reviews about it. We wanted some seafood but didn’t want to spend excessive amounts. We were greeted by very friendly staff and our waitress gave recommendations of food and wine, we were even able to taste some wine before selection. We ordered seafood linguine, halibut and sand dab. All dishes were excellent and such good value for money. Would highly recommend a visit.
