When a lobster risotto is that good, a "5" is automatic!

By 1234texas |

We went to brunch with friends who are "regulars" at this restaurant--the manager greeted them with open arms. The Sunday brunch is really a special deal in more ways the one! The food is outstanding, the service flawless, and the prices incredibly good. Our friends assured us that the lunches and dinners are equally well done, but they enjoyed the brunch--it is very casual and relaxed with a nice band playing background music. I do not often give a 5" on a first visit, but this is one of the exceptions. The ONLY drawback is the very small and tight parking conditions--all the other measures are 5+: nice interior, decent art, comfortable seating, bar, outside dining option, along with great food and service at reasonable prices. BUT, the lobster risotto was good beyond belief. It includes a full lobster tail--which came as a total surprise. The risotto was well prepared and el dente. At $21, it was an incredible bargain. Sadly, I have paid far more for far less numerous times! It is good to see a chef do it right. We will be back.

Delicious food, quality cocktails. Worth every penny.

By Sarah S |

This restaurant is worth every penny. They opened their doors as soon as it was possible and they fed my family during the February snowstorm. My family didn’t have power or food, so having a hot and delicious meal meant more than I can put into words. Their staff is so friendly and the food quality is exceptional. Their cocktails are made from scratch, quality ingredients. I can’t say enough good things about this place. No matter if it’s brunch or dinner, you won’t be disappointed.

What a Treat

Joined with a couple that we have been friendly with for years. For them, a neighborhood haunt, for us a bit of a trip. Wonderful experience for dinner. Extensive, well documented menu, delightful wine list filled with American and European choices and service second to none. Congratulations, a wonderful experience.

STELLAR BIRTHDAY DINNER

By Emil F |

We celebrated my husband's birthday with a dinner at Bistr09 and it was magical. We arranged for a prix fixe menu with several option for each of the three courses. I pre-ordered wine for the evening and guests were so happy and impressed. There were 20 people in attendance and the service was stellar and the food was exquisite. Every step, every morsel, every moment was absolute perfection. Excellent hospitality and warm, professional service. This is the perfect place for a special event or a nice French meal. Well done.

Saved a birthday night

By San Antonio member |

My father has cancer and we had plans to celebrate his birthday last night at home with a small gathering of vaccinated family members. Unfortunately, the place we were planning on getting take out from has discontinued take out - so after a last minute scramble we called Bistro 09 to see if we could get an upscale take out meal from them. Not only were they super accommodating with our big order - they blew it out of the park. My mother is a serious gourmet cook and VERY picky when it comes to quality. She couldn't stop raving about the lobster risotto, including how the lobster was perfectly cooked and the quality of the accompanying sauce. And that was the way it went with every dish we ordered. The requested very rare steak was in fact very rare and perfectly seasoned. The duck confit - perfect. The sides perfect. The fish - perfect. So thank you Bistro 09 for saving a special night!! Also a reminder to all of us who are still stuck getting takeout because of Covid. Make sure to tip generously! The restaurant industry has been hit so hard by the pandemic. Tipping well on take out really matters right now.

Delighted the Ferrari Club

Approximately 50 Ferrari Club members had a Saturday drive for lunch here. Ambiance was great, food was outstanding and service was impeccable. My only regret is that I live 35 minutes from Bistro 09, thus won't get there frequently.

Excellent!

Consistently one of the best restaurants in San Antonio! Love the bistro feel, all of the staff are personable and professional . From the appetizers to the dessert, you feel like you are in the best Parisian bistro. ! ( some of the best Halibut I’ve had in my life)

Prom Date

By SATXFamily |

While our son attended prom, my wife and I treated ourselves to Bistro 09. We arrived early, with reservations, and were seated immediately. Guests may choose indoor or outdoor seating. The ambiance is not overly elegant, nor quiet and at capacity, the dining can become somewhat clamorous. The crowd is typically older as ourselves. However, you will experience outstanding service and an exceptional meal! The seared foie gras and beef tenderloin bearnaise were meal choices we would readily return for; our primary server, Phillip, provided extraordinary service. Dinner for two (appetizer, dinner, drinks, shared dessert) with tip may approximate $200; the experience was priceless!

This French bistro is an absolute jewel. The ambiance is perfect, the staff is over the top professional and attentive. The food is heavenly. We can't get enough of this amazing place and are so grateful to have a restaurant of this caliber in the area.

A classic French bistro in San Antonio

By Taylor B |

Chef Damien Watel and his wife Lisa have opened their ninth restaurant creation in San Antonio, Texas. In the past, they have written several culinary success stories. Remember Bistro Vatel? Welcome to Bistr09, a classic French brasserie located in a space formerly occupied by the French restaurant L'Etoile. Bistr09 is housed at 6106 Broadway, in the Sage Group, in the Alamo Heights neighborhood. Open from 4 to 9 Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 4 to 10 Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 11 to 2 on Sunday, this French delight offers a welcome change from Texas barbecue and chicken fried steak and Tex-Mex and chili and brisket. My wife and I started with escargot, tempura shrimp and cheese and charcuterie. For an entree, my wife chose duck breast and wild rice. I stuck to my meat-and-potatoes habit with New York strip steak with frites. For sides, we shared potatoes au grain and frites with truffle parmesan. For dessert, we couldn't decide on two so we opted for sharing three items--creme brulee, chocolate mousse and pear tart with caramel and cream. Is French cooking making a comeback in this country or what?

Delicious French Food in a beautiful restaurant!

By slf540 |

We went for restaurant week. We price fixe 3 course meal. We each had French Onion Soup to start- excellent. I had roast pork with a wine reduction over mashed potatoes with roasted vegetables. My husband had the Lobster en croute. Both were amazing. I had a lot to take home. For dessert I had the flourless chocolate cake and my husband had creme brulee. Excellent food and service! Definitely a winner!

An Evening to Savory

By Randall G |

Run by well respected husband and wife, this oasis from our chain restaurant induced scene sheds light upon a cuisine far deeper that first seen. Traditional French honored skills coupled by exquisite personable service in an endearing atmosphere makes this restaurant stand alone. One is not “taught” French cuisine it’s a craft built upon decades of learning and here is where the lamb is separated from the shank. Our table of 4 requested the bar side for its lively atmosphere. Noise is a buzz but conducting a business conversation was easy to hear and speak with privacy. A slightly more serene dining room is adjacent to the bar with a wall separating the two. Comfortable chairs and sizable tables made our 3 hour taste of marvels pleasant. Not that 3 hours are needed as the kitchen and staff will move seamlessly even if an hour is all you have. For starters we had the Escargots Comme D'habitude $12 served with as much baguette needed to soak up the butter! The Spinach with bacon vinaigrette $12 was crisp, cold spinach with a light vinaigrette , wanted to order a 2nd! Tonight they offered a broiled oyster appetizer which were plump as a down pillow and toasted cheese atop to perfection. The Foie Gras Pate $24…, well I licked the board on which it was presented. Smooth texture with perfect accompaniments. Our entrées Quai & Parmesan Risotto $28, juicy, medium rare and a burst of flavor. The Duck Confit $28 was moist and left you reminiscing for the last bite as you will want more. Finally the reason we came again was for the Dover Sole Meunière $54. Out of this world, fresh, moist and bursting with flavor! Do excuse me for side stepping the roasted potatoes and garden fresh vegetables and substitute fries with French mustard. Lastly we started with a mixture of cocktails then moved to a Devine bottle of Leflaive Bourgogne Blanc $55. Little dry and our favorite, not found in stores. Bought a second bottle to take home! Please help support locally own restaurants such as Bistro9 and I promise you will not be disappointed
