Supposedly one of the better Barbeque joints in town (though locals always have there own favorite, i later learned from friends). Still I ended the lean brisket and ribs. Their proprietary sauce was good and vinegary. Great sides. Good selection of local beers (though Lone Star seemed most appropriate). Had fun. Enjoyed watching family next to us begun their meal with saying Grace. This Brooklyn boy is still out of place here.

The service was quick and friendly I ordered the beef rib and fatty brisket. The beef rib is big and wonderful. The brisket was also very good I liked their coleslaw and potato salad BBQ sauce was great...tasty with body Would definitely come back next time in Austin

Had a suggestion from a local to go to Black's for BBQ. We had the lean beef brisket sandwiches (double meat) and it was the best we've ever had!

There were six of us. We ordered turkey, sausage, beef rib and the last pork chop. It was all fantastic, but the beef rib stole the show!! The sides were excellent also! Y’all will be happy here.

I have traveled this country many times over. I’ve tried BBQ in many states. I’ve often said (and believe) nobody makes BBQ like a Texan. Texas has the best. Why do I say that? 1-Because it’s true and 2-Because I make the best and I’m in Texas. I’ve tried a lot of BBQ joints and smoke houses. I’d leave disappointed because it isn’t as good as mine. The experience’ll leave me still craving smoked brisket and I’d have to smoke one. Let me tell you something. Black’s is amazing. They’re almost as good as mine but the best I’ve found that isn’t mine. Chopped Brisket Combo Plate, Chopped Beef Frito Pie, Jalapeño & Cheddar Sausage, and Peach Cobbler. Color me impressed. Their sauces are ok, not a fan of those but the rest are amazing. If you look at my reviews I hardly ever leave a 5 star, but this one deserves it. Great job Black’s!!

This place is awesome. The food was perfectly cooked, and it was delicious! If you’re ever in Austin I would definitely recommend you visit Black’s BBQ you won’t be disappointed.

My one complaint is that the brisket was unbelievably salty. I knew proper preparation requires it, but I’ve never had it taste so overwhelmingly so. Sides were outstanding but I was disappointed.

The beef ribs are huge, and taste great! The sides are a bit pricey though. No wonder a lot of people are just buying the barbecue and then they take advantage of the free bread.

We tried Black’s Frito Pie with Norma Jean’s beans! Crazy good and was enjoyed by all. The brisket was great, too. We’ll visit again when in Austin.

Great BBQ Texas style ! tried a little of almost everything, lean brisket was awesome, and the cheddar mac and cheese is a must. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs, wash it down with an ice cold Lone Star.

I go every Thursday night to pick up chicken and sides for my co-workers and me. The service is so friendly! Staff is always smiling and trying to get you exactly what you want.

On the recommendation of a friend we ordered a Bundle online. We anxiously awaited the arrival of our BBQ. Our wait was not in vain. We were amazed at the quantity, quality and the taste of each item. The pork baby back ribs were fall off the bone delicious, the bark on the brisket was incredible, the jalapeño sausages were ever so tasty. Would highly recommend ordering this BBQ, my only regret is we don’t live in Texas.

Food was fresh, hot, delicious and timely! I ordered online and it said it would be 20 minutes, I arrived early and it was ready to go it had all the necessary accoutrements!

My sister was hell-bent on having BEEF ribs, which are not the easiest to find anymore... Everyone seems to have baby back ribs, but the beef remain elusive. This one not only had beef ribs, they were some of the meatiest ones I've ever seen in my life! The accompanying potato salad, Mexican corn, and macaroni and cheese rounded out our meal nicely. All in all it was a wonderful meal and I would highly recommend it. The beers were also great!

Brisket chicken ribs sausage. All first class bbq. The service was superior and the store front is classic style and worthy of photos. Wish we were in Austin longer so we could go back.

We visited this bbq on our way to San Antonio, as we saw this place on tiktok. Brisket was great and so was mac’n’cheese. Pork ribs weren’t our favourite and the sausage nothing special. Otherwise the staff was really friendly and the atmosphere was great.

Soo yummy. I didn’t find this BBQ place on any must try Austin BBQ lists but they should definitely add this place to those lists. We ordered 1/2 pound of brisket with Mac and cheese, green beans, and of course tried the apple crisp and the peach cobbler. The meat was so soft and pulled apart so nicely. The apple crisp was the perfect amount of sweet and crispy

This was an "Door Dash" experience and it was excellent. Read on for details. In Austin for ACL, without a car and wanting to try the local BBQ, we selected Black's. We ordered the brisket sandwich, mexican street corn as the side and the peach cobbler dessert. The brisket was as good as the best I've had: beefy, moist and smokey, not adulterated but an overpowering rub. I enjoyed it without any sauce...it was delicious and made me wish I had ordered a second sandwich. I like a good corn side dish and the Mexican street corn was excellent, pairing the sweet corn with pepper. I could have been less watery. The peach cobbler was peachy, sweet and a nice dessert. So: excellent meal all around and something I'd look forward to having again.

Recommended by some local friends when we were visiting Austin. About a 30 minute walk from our hotel but totally worth it. Brisket was really juicy and flavourful, sides were all really good and it was a reasonable price compared to others I have seen. Would absolutely recommend if you are in the area.

We just visited this spot today and it was cool. No frills but it was a pretty solid BBQ spot. The Q was Ok. Not “out of this world” but it was alright. Now, the beef rib was GREAT! It was sooo tender...fell right off of the bone. The pork rib and lean brisket were not as tender as I’ve had elsewhere but passable. The Mac n cheese was better than I’ve had at other BBQ spots, that’s for sure. The pinto beans were ok too..had decent flavor. We had the peach cobbler, which was a gelatinous concoction of some sort...kinda weird, but the crust was decent. I probably should have gotten the pecan cobbler:-). Overall, I’d give it a solid B-. Not bad by any means, just not spectacular.

In spite of all the great BBQ places in Austin, Black's on Guadalupe has typically been my go to place for either dine in or take out when entertaining at home. But last evening's experience makes me wonder if something has changed or maybe problems caused by the pandemic are finally taking their toll. At any rate, what was a pretty simple order of 2 lbs. of lean brisket and two lbs. of pork ribs was definitely not up to Black's standards. The order was freshly put together because when I arrived 5 minutes early to pick it up, it was in the process of being prepared. Everything was nice and hot which was a good start. All the bread, pickles, onions, and sauce were there, too. But when we unwrapped the meats we were concerned. The brisket was pretty fatty, except for the occasional slivers of very dry beef. There was no bark on the brisket, so the appearance was of 2 lbs. of gray meat; not very appetizing. The pork ribs looked good, but were very dry. They tasted good but, still dry. With more than usual sauce, the meal was eaten, just not with our usual enthusiasm for a Black's dinner. Hopefully this was just a one off occurrence. Otherwise, someone needs to do some quality control on take out orders at least.

This is the Original Black’s north of the UT campus on Guadalupe Street. We got there late on a Sunday and waited a little while in line. Very worth the wait. Since it was late the beef ribs, chicken, and beef ribs were sold out. We split 2lbs of brisket between three people. Wow, it was some of the best brisket we’ve had. Bbq sauce is good and cole slaw was excellent too. Since we were disappointed in not getting anything besides brisket, we went back the next day too at lunchtime. Just a short line and we were able to get chicken, a beef rib, and brisket. They were all excellent just as we expected.

Although parking is somewhat limited, this stop is worth it. Indoor and outdoor dining available at picnic tables. Friendly staff at the cafeteria-style serving line. Beef brisket was very good, as were any side you choose. We had fries, slaw and mac & cheese. Prices are moderate and beer is available.

I liked black's bbq!! They did not have a line... we went in got the stuff and ate it 😊 The brisket was good and the beef ribs were fall off the bone tender!! The sides were good too loved the cole slaw, sweet potato and potato salad that we had!!

This is seriously authentic. You might call this a ‘spit and sawdust ‘ joint, but that suggests a lack of quality. Not a bit. We had both beef and pork ribs, brisket and a sausage(way too much!) but it was worth the over order just to savour every mouthful. Simple bench seating and traditional blues music pumping out completes this not to miss experience- why queue at Franklin’s when you can get this quality immediately?

This place is the real deal!! Mac and Cheese was homemade. Cobbler, pie, Banana pudding and oh yeah BBQ!! We had Brisket, Homemade sausage and Ribs. I just wish I could have tried it all but was stuffed!! This was some of the best BBQ I've ever had. Seating is picnic tables which was fun. I got to thank an old WWII vet that told the entire table stories.

I’m a brisket connoisseur so I’m very picky but this place does it right! They carve the meat of your choice right in front of you and per order. They offer all kinds of meat in addition to brisket. The smokers are located on site. Not only do they have good smoked meat but they offer incredible sides and the homemade pecan pie is not to be left out!

Out of everything at 7pm on Saturday…. Go to Terry blacks for an all around better experience! Bad service, out of all the best stuff…. And on top of that bad service. Do yourself a favor and go to his brothers spot. It’s insanely better.

We loved the Brisket, BBQ sauce and the Macaroni & Cheese was the best I’ve ever tried. However, I was disappointed with the Chili (I’ve literally made better myself and I’m not a cook - it didn’t have much flavor) and the corn. It was definitely amazing if you stick to the meat and macaroni & cheese, but if you want amazing sides, head elsewhere.

Black’s BBQ is an OMG moment on my recent trip to ATX. I had never had brisket or smoked sausage before until I ate here. I am hooked. The food was AMAZING. I am a northern guy and this was a truly memorable dining experience from start to finish. The brisket was tender and so flavorful. The sausage was very tasty. The sweet potato casserole was OMG good. I haven’t stopped talking about my experience since I returned and have shared trip details with friends. I am so happy I followed TripAdvisor reviews and went here and anyone reading this should too. You won’t be disappointed.

If you are in Austin and hungry go to this place! You order the Food by the lbs. There are different meats and sides. The Mac and cheese is amazing!

Great hot guts. Great brisket, but a shade under Franklins. OTOH, it is not a 2+ hour wait to eat it, so there is that. I cut my Q teeth on Black's and Kreutz's On any given day the brisket might have been a bit moister at one as opposed to the other. The Hot Guts at Kreutz's usually had the edge but some days they were shown up by Blacks. Both were great. But I always gave an edge to Edgar's place. Still amazingly good in Austin and in Lockhart. Recommended, with all my heart. Ribs at Blacks sustained me many times driving to Houston. Eat rib, toss bone out sunroof, repeat.

We picked up take out from here for family dinner tonight and here are some thoughts. This is a hole in the wall place just north of the drag at 31st and Guadalupe. The food is brought up from Lockhart daily. The counter service for pick up was quite smooth and it seemed the same for folks who were dining in. There is both inside and patio seating. The lean brisket is as good or better than any in town in my opinion. At $26.99 a lb it also the most expensive in town and not a great value. Thier BBQ sauce is also very good and they give lots of it as well as lots of bread, pickles and onions. They were out of turkey so we had a whole chicken and it's decent with their sauce. Without the sauce I think it would have been too dry. At $14.99 it's a fair value. The pork ribs are also decent, better than Rudy's, about the same as Don's and not as good as Salt Lick or Franklin's. At $18.99 a pound it's bit pricey. I didn't care for the sausage links but every one else liked them. At $3.99 a link they are a decent value. We had 4 sides in the pint size. The green beans and potato salad were gone quickly, while the corn and cole slaw had about 1/2 a pint left over. All were priced at $8.99 which is a poor value.

Forget the 4-hour wait at Franklin Barbecue. Just ten minutes away is Black’s BBQ, warm, homey and inviting. The friendly staff explained I could order any combination of meats by weight. Choices included lean and fatty brisket, pork ribs, beef ribs, sausages, and chicken. I decided on fatty brisket and one hefty pork rib. As my meat was being cut a slab of gigantic beef ribs came out of the smoker that almost made me change my mind. Along with sides of mac ‘n’ cheese and coleslaw, some slices of Texas toast were heaped on my tray and I was good to go. Texas barbecue is served dry but there were bottles of sauce on each table. The brisket was amazing—tender, flavorful, falling apart on my fork. The pork rib was also delicious although the end was a bit dry.

First time in Austin, came here right from the airport for their brisket, recommended by my son who eats here every time he's in Austin. What a great recommendation! Brisket sandwich was so yummy. Weather was quite warm, we enjoyed being able to eat outside under the canope. Would definitely return.

BBQ was great and the pepper sauce was hot and so good! We went on a Saturday around 11:30 and when we left the line was out the door. We only ordered the brisket which was yummy with an ice crisp skin and well flavored. Dipped in the regular sauce with the pepper and oh so good! We also ordered the jalepeno, cheese sausage which had food flavor but bit spicy. Favored the brisket over the sausage. Added a side of green beans which also had a good flavor. Would go back and if we have more time would like to check out the Lockhart location which we were told can sometimes be better. We were pleased with the downtown Austin experience and would go back!

I’m sorry to be negative but I feel obligated to write this. We were in from out of state and had to get some BBQ while in Texas. This place was well-reviewed and very busy when we got there. Based on others’ comments something must have gone wrong here because there’s no way that people are lining up for and raving about this food. We got brisket and ribs plus street corn and mac n cheese. The meat had 2 flavors - grease and smoke. Yuck! It was pretty dried out too. The sauce with it’s one-note vinegar hit couldn’t save it. The street corn also had only one flavor - black pepper. No corn flavor let alone street corn flavor. Just intense black pepper. So gross! The mac n cheese was utterly forgettable. I feel bad about writing this but that was low-quality in every sense. The employees were very nice and the place had a nice vibe. But how could anyone enjoy that? Often when I have BBQ the hardest part is knowing when to stop because it’s delicious BBQ. This was a chore to eat and I just threw the rest out. I picked it up right on time too and dug in, I didn’t let it languish or or anything. Yuck

Perfectly good brisket and coleslaw. But with all the great choices in Austin, I think I’ll work my way through the list.

The BBQ was so tender so you can't even pick it up with a fork (not that you should use one anyways). The drink choices are quite underwhelming though - only some weird wines and a few local beers. Very nice service!

Love BBQ, used to live in Texas but had never tried Black's until this weekend. Busy at lunch but the line moved smoothly. Fantastic, huge beef ribs cut in front of the customer. I also had a bit of their "fatty" brisket which was also excellent. I'm not a sauce guy so no comment of those options. Sweet tea was almost too sweet but fixable with a bit of water. Peach cobbler was delicious. Not cheap (those beef ribs are pricey) but worth it.

Not much left but a couple of Bones we had everything. The table was divided between the fatty brisket in the lean brisket both were excellent smoked sausage outstanding BBQ ribs among the best ever and the chicken was pretty darn good too

Sadly this was the second best brisket I have eaten in Austin. The best was when I ate here a year ago! Black's in Lockhart, Black's Austin is always great! The pork ribs were absolutely fall off the bone tender, moist and full of flavor. Brisket was juicy, tender, and smoky sweet. Mac & Cheese and col slaw were great too.

They have not just the best BBQ brisket and ribs ever, their sides are delicious! Mac n cheese, Mexican rice, corn bread and peach cobbler. Best of all, their set-up and hours, make it Way better than Franklin’a. You still wait in line, order and get sides right in front of you, then they cut your meat choice Also I front of you. Then you get a table and eat! Seriously Amazing! Great location.

Was in Austin for a conference and went to several BBQ places. This was one of the best. I had the brisket, pork ribs and mac 'n cheese.

Fantastic beef ribs and fatty brisket. Only downside was SUPER expensive! I couldn't make up my mind. The staff allowed me to sample a couple pieces of beef ribs, fatty brisket and pork ribs. I opted for the beef rib and fatty brisket. Way too much food for me at the time. Next time I will get smaller portion and get the pork ribs. Family friendly place with indoor and outdoor seating.

My daughter and I traveled from Boston to San Diego recently by way of Austin. Before we even got to our hotel we had to stop at Black's BBQ. Mouth watering goodness awaited us. So, you get in line and before you reach the counter you have the task of figuring out what cut of brisket you want...fatty or lean and then all the sides. Since we never had this kind of choice in the brisket before we got a slab each one, 1/2 # each. Mac & cheese, green beans and Cole slaw. All getting washed down by some great Texas beer. We both preferred the fatty because it was the most moist. We were told by some regulars to ask for end pieces for the nice crust.

The ribs were huge but full of fat and more baked in the oven than in the pit. Mac and cheese was ok. It sure wasn’t worth 125.00 bucks. I could have went to a nice steakhouse for that price.

Hard to park. Service a little worse than usual. Priced somewhat higher than usual. Cold beer. All good, but not exceptional. Brisket, extra rib, chorizo.

Prices are quite reasonable and the foodd ooiutstanding. Avoid the lean brisket however, because it can be dry.

We went to Black’s BBQ around 6 pm on a Thursday. The place was clean and looked like it had been updated in the past few years. Seating is picnic tables, inside and out. One orders at the counter, and a friend and I went with a giant beef rib, 1/2 lb of “fatty Brisket”, a sausage, beans and street corn. The service was friendly and good. The stand-outs were the beef rib and the sausage. The rib had an enormous amount of meat on it and had a nice smoke flavor and was very tender. The sausage had a nice snap to it and good flavor. The brisket was from the point, under-seasoned and tasted more like a pot roast than great BBQ. The beans were really bland and the street corn more mayo than corn. It was decent, but not a top tier BBQ joint.

I was just in Austin for a meeting. I was staying at the Driskill hotel and asked the concierge for a BBQ restaurant other than Franklins (to busy). She recommended Blacks. I went there right from the airport about 1 pm. Not crowded. I went to the counter to order and saw the magnificent beef ribs and brisket. I got one rib (one lb) and one slice of brisket (4 0z). They both were fantastic!!! No dinner for me that night! highly recommend but not cheap. My lunch above with no sides with a drink was $31.

I ordered the chopped brisket sandwich today thinking they would chop it from the same slab they had just served the person in front of me. Yet, they handed me a pre-portioned order of chopped beef that was so greasy and filled with bbq sauce it was as if I was eating soup on a bun. My stomach is still upset after eating it 12hrs later at just the thought of it. Everything else looked good but just regretting my choice.

We hadn’t had bbq all week while in town. That’s hard to do! So last night we packed up and went. Got the moist brisket. It was soft and mushy. Not a lot of smoke but flavor profile was ok. Beef rib was salty, burned but the smoke was there. Spare ribs had the best profile of flavor, texture and seasoning. Turkey was very good. Moist but tasty. Corn was drowned in sauce ( mayo?), beans good, Mac n cheese hohum. Lastly the sauce (one available) was nothing to write home about.

I ordered lean brisket and burnt ends. It was delicious! The burnt ends have so much flavor even if they are a little over done at times. I also got the green beans which were very good.

One of my favorite spots for knockout good barbecue! Whenever I travel through Austin I try to time things so I can enjoy a meal here.

Old school recipe, lines and tables. The brisket, fatty, was rich in flavor and taste. The sausage rings tasty, Norma Gene baked beans good. They were out of beef and pork ribs, Cole slaw and green beans. Our fault we're late arriving. We need to get there early to get those. Return yes.

I'm from Kansas City and consider myself a BBQ snob. The fatty brisket here was great. I tried both the lean and the fatty before going with the latter. The ribs were ok, but certainly not the best fall-off-the-bone-type I like. I put sauce on the ribs after trying them. The brisket didn't need sauce. Sides-wise, great Mexican corn. The baked beans were mediocre.

Family of 6 which included 2 grandparents, 2 small children and 2 parents. We were looking for an authentic Texas BBQ experience. It was just what we wanted. Long lines moved quickly. Delicious Ribs, sausage, pulled beef, pork and chicken. Huge portions. We loved it. We will be back to Austin and Black's BBQ. Austin is an extraordinary city, one to remember

Based on its rating on Trip Advisor, my wife and I tried it for lunch while visiting Austin. When I paid with my credit card, it offered the option to email me my receipt or print a hard copy. I chose email. I never got it. Further, as I now remember it, the cost was $45 and change. However, when I home from our trip and checked my credit card account, i found that I'd been charged $52 and change. I couldn't very well dispute it because I had no receipt. While I am not accusing them of dishonesty, I am simply recommending always getting a hard copy when you pay. As to the meal, it was no better than average. I had baby back ribs while my wife had the brisket and a sausage. We also had sides of mac & cheese, beans, and potato salad. I would recommend the mac & cheese. Maybe our expectations were higher as this was Texas and they are known for BBQ. Anyway, we were disappointed.

Order at the counter, find a place to sit at long communal tables. Lots of larger groups and whole families with kids. Everything I tasted was excellent, and am excitied about going back and trying more of the menu.

I did my research and read the reviews - and I knew that Blacks was NOT going to be my best Texas BBQ experience - but it was close to my hotel so I stopped in for 6 ounces of brisket and some sides. Perhaps the brisket was sitting too long in the warmer - but it was a bit dry, and lacked flavor. (Although their BBQ sauce was very good - and helped out the brisket...). The green beans and Cole slaw were 'fine' - the peach cobbler - meh. Next stop ----- Franklins.

We stopped at Blacks on our way from Austin to San Antonio. The choices were amazing. Best brisket my husband ever had. Raved about it for days after. I loved the pecan cobbler. Only thing better would have been whipped cream for it. Awesome.

Good atmosphere and delicious food. The ribs was the best. Well seasoned and cooked. Plenty of tables and good accommodations outside of the venue.

Waiting in line on a Saturday night for BBQ in Austin, I wondered if it would be worth it. Three of us shared 1/2 lb turkey and 1/2 lb moist brisket and tried a scattering of sides. Fifteen minutes in, I went back to the counter for another 1/2 lb of brisket. Wow, I'll go every time I'm here, but I won't bother with sides that aren't fresh.

Blacks bbq was amazing. The service was great and the food was top of the line. Gabriel Culiat will definitely recommend them to family and friends

A new location for Blacks, from Lockhart Texas, this location is riding the coat tails of the original. But, they just don't measure up. None of the meat has that rich smokey flavor. Some of it is actually bland. For what they are serving, they are terribly overpriced at $15 a pound. Still better than many competitors, very disappointing, after having what I consider to be the best BBQ in Texas, down in Lockhart.

Visited Austin for a day. Someone recommended Black's BBQ. Walked in and was a little confused at the menu. Once it was explained, was okay. Did the "fatty" brisket and it was amazing as was the ribs. The only disappointment was that they only had one type of BBQ sauce. The vinegar based sauce was okay, but I would have liked a variety.

We recently had barbecue at another Original Black’s location in New Braunfels and while looking at their website it said there was a location in Austin. It must have been new since I would have heard about it. On this day my niece was moving into a dorm at the University of Texas campus and with family in town and wanted to take them out for lunch. So I researched this location and turned out it is on Guadalupe St near campus. So this was perfect to not only try this place but treat our out of town family with delicious Texas barbecue. We were the first to arrive to find little parking availability but luckily a person was leaving, and got a spot. There are three places to park on property where one is behind it in an alley but only a handful where another is across the street with a little more. And last parking in front of a business across from it where only a few are reserved. The front of the place had cool signage for selfies and walked in the door to find a line. It was not a long one but slow. Once got to the front I ordered pork ribs and brisket. They give you the meat directly on a tray. There was not much inside seating however we had to sit separately until a group left. There is outdoor covered seating but it was hot outside. The brisket was moist and it tasted very good but I thought it was saltier that the location in New Braunfels. The pork ribs was the same but was very soft to eat. I had potato salad and sweet tea to go with it. They give you big portions either in sandwiches or by the pound. Bread of course comes with it. My family loved it and we did too. I have a feeling we will be back soon.

This was my first time in Austin. I live in Montreal Canada and i love BBQ food Went to many BBQ places for my visit and we actually went here 2x because it was that good no lineup 2x compares to the blacks in lockhart Had fatty brisket, pork ribs, sausage, mac and cheese and beef rib everything was delicious

This is one of a few locations of "The Original" Black's BBQ, which bills itself as the oldest family-run BBQ joint in Texas. The brisket was quite good, but I found it to be rather over-seasoned for my taste. While it was really tender and juicy, I couldn't get past the overwhelming saltiness. The atmosphere was casual and service was satisfactory. Overall, solid barbecue, but not life-changing.

Fresh, lovely meat. All tend to be very salty, so be aware. Only one choice of BBQ sauce, which was much too ketchup-y for me (a northern gal). Cole slaw and mac n cheese are delicious.

Great flavor, super tender, excellent authentic Texas BBQ. ATX long time local establishment right near campus. Beef brisket, jalapeño sausage, cobbler!

We both had melt in your mouth brisket sandwiches. I had a side of beans which were fine. We both had peach cobbler for dessert.

Was in Austin for a weekend trip amongst friends therefore BBQ is a must in this town. The display is cool at the start putting it on a huge carving board for your viewing pleasure. Everything looks delicious so be careful on amount you order. To my surprise the turkey was the best tasting meat. The brisket was goood but the ribs were to my taste just average and a bit on fatty side. Still a good spot but not the best I have had

We picked up a large order of delicious bbq. The brisket was excellent. Ribs were fine. Turkey was good. Chicken was smoky and awesome. Sides were all very good. Especially the Mac & cheese and the cole slaw.

Not the original but will do. Order by the pound, Love the jalapeno sausage juicy with a kick. Brisket is moist. friendly staff if you cannot make it to lockhart this will do. come on by

Cafeteria style. Step in and get into line. Brisket was great. Three types of sauce on the table. Sweet, original and spicy. Original was good but nothing special. Mac and cheese was very disappointing. Store bought cheese liquid. Not baked! Took Uber there from Wyndham only $7 for the 4 of us.

Blacks has good TX BBQ. Convenient parking across the street. It wasn’t crowded for our early dinner. Great local experience!

They've got all sorts of hot sauces to go with their great bbq sauces. Their brisket is moist and delicious and very filling. Definitely a good shout to come here.

An authentic bbq experience, whether if you choose a hamburger or a strak, good meat quality, with mac and cheese as side dish, you literally lick your fingers.

I was driving to a different bbq restaurant and happened to see the Black's Barbecue sign. I knew the original restaurant's reputation but had never eaten there. I decided to stop rather than try to find the other restaurant. It was a great decision. I love beef ribs and their's was the best I've eaten in a very long time. Better than the other Austin joints I have tried. Brisket was tender and moist with a nice smoke to it. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. I will go back for more delicious barbecue.

Best brisket I have ever eaten. Ate at the Lockhart location in 2005 and this one is equal to the task it is the flavor profile that I judge barbecue by. Friendly staff. Just plain old fashioned good barbecue. EAT HERE hungry yet?

Amazing food we had to go back a 2nd time. nice relaxed atmosphere. The staff are really nice and helpful when not sure on what to order. Was busy but very organised we didn't have to wait long.

Very good barbeque but be prepared. There is a line...out the door. You need to pick up your drink from the cooler first (or wait to get a beer). Then it is the sides and then your meat. The brisket was tender and lean but it is not pulled so you will have a high stack of meat. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, plenty of room and napkins.

Wow. I loved the smell in the air before we even parked the car. One of the best BBQ places in Texas. I hope they open more locations. The meat was very tender and juicy. Only downfall, bathroom didn’t have soap and almost out of toilet paper. Wondering how employees wash their hands.

Disappointed that the bbq was not even warm, hence very greasy. Bathrooms filthy and this was 11am! The buffet sides were better than the meat, but we all go for the meat.

Everything I expected, maybe better! Made my first visit to Black’s with three others. We were all impressed. The food was delicious, service was great, and the atmosphere was perfect! Best brisket Sandwich I have ever tasted...sides were awesome! Everything was just amazing...well done!

Met an old college buddy for lunch the other day. Both got Regular Brisket Sandwich. Must have looked hungry because there seemed to be nearly half pound of sliced beef on each. Excellent value and quality. Tender, juicy and smoky. We often take company and relatives who visit Austin to Black's as they nearly all enjoy it more than other local BBQ. Not too big on sides or pork ribs but their BRISKET RULES !!!

My wife and I saw Blacks BBQ on the Food Network and finally had an opportunity to visit, while in Austin, TX. We’re from Georgia, and I guess that’s what we get for assuming that we’d found better BBQ. WE WERE WRONG! The Pulled Pork was too salty; the Ribs were tough; the Brisket wasn’t as tender as we’d hope it would be, and the Sausage Links tastes like they were cooked in the oven. None of the food was served hot (it was lukewarm). We struggled to find the smokey flavor, but couldn’t find it anywhere. We paid $37.00 for a sandwich, three ribs, two really small links and one slice of Brisket. We have one bit of advice to Blacks, and that is to not allow high volume and demand to affect quality.

Black's BBQ is famous in Lockhart, Texas. Their Austin location is the same great BBQ but an hour closer. The brisket is superb—moist, smokey, and with a great bark. Their sausage is wonderful as are the pork ribs. Street corn was just OK, but you really can't go wrong with anything they serve.

So, Texas bbq. Beef ribs, beef brisket, oh yeah. Black's has it all and it is all good. The sides may be great, but i was eating the rib-one will do, especially if you try the brisket as well. Black's is beef heaven

I am in Austin for a convention and a friend took me to Black's, his favorite place. It did not disappoint. The beef rib is HUGE and almost a religious experience. The brisket was equally good. Wow. The Pitmaster came around and told us stories about his family who founded the restaurant and were pictured on the walls and he got me a hat! Great family friendly environment. Come a bit early if you don't want them to run out of the beef ribs. I got the last one of the night at about 7:30pm. Worth the trip.

Got the double meat pulled pork sandwich and it was soooo good. So basically they give it to you plain and then you have the option of adding pickles, onions, jalapeños, and bbq sauce. The options are open for you to grab in like a self serve bar. Sides we got: coleslaw (ok), Mac and cheese (sooo good), sweet potatoes (so good), potato salad (good), peach cobbler (good), and lastly banana pudding (good). We went on a Saturday and arrived around 5ish and there were like 4 people ahead of us but essentially not a long wait and we were able to get a table. Total cost for all those sides and 3 double meat pulled pork sandwiches and 3 drinks was about $70 (includes tip). We would definitely recommend and come back.

Any barbecue place that provides paper towels instead of napkins is serving the real deal. We thoroughly enjoyed our brisket and barbecue salad, and soaked up lots of good atmosphere and even had a kindly stranger take our photo. Prices are reasonable, and they also sell their lovely delicious sauces and other giftware. A must stop place for barbecue in Austin.

If you love meat you'll love Black's BBQ, it is simply carnivore heaven! All freshly cooked meats with sides and salads, plus some great real ales. This place has a good atmosphere, so you'll know you're in Texas when you're in Black's.

The good: The staff was nice and courteous. Not so good: food. We were disappointed in general. We ordered lean brisket, which was not lean (it's OK for the brisket to have fat, probably not that much for a lean cut), mine was salty but my wife was ok, salt-wise. We also ordered the Giant Baby ribs, which were overcooked on one side and undercooked on the other.

Went because reviews said it was awesome. I went specifically for the giant rib, paid $27 a pound which included the bone and all the fat they left on it so $56 dollars. I was expecting great things but what a disappointing taste. It was like it was cooked in a crockpot. I had sides that were the beans and they needed to be cooked more. Best thing was the banana pudding which was sad. Well I went once and never again. Picture below is my $66 dollar plate. Looks good but looks can be deceiving.

We normally don't eat smoked meat but we stopped on our way to San Antonio to try their ribs. They were tender and tasty but not juicy. Hubby had some of the sausage but didn't enjoy the texture, closer to Louisiana style than Texas plump and juicy. The atmosphere was fun and friendly and it smelled wonderful inside. There are a lot of places that serve BBQ in the area so we will try others in the area on the way home.

We were advices to visit Blacks for some authentic Texan bbq and it was!! The brisket choice was lean or more fatty, we chose the lean and it was so tender and tasty. We tried two of the sausages, the original and jalapeño cheese, the original had the edge. Pork ribs was next and didn’t disappoint, succulent and tender. We liked the dry rub style of cooking with sauces we could add if needed, it wasn’t.

I did enjoy the smoked flavor of Texas. I thought the brisket could be better but everything else was great. Be prepared to buy buy the pound and all sides are a la cart. Overall a good experience and I do recommend.

Black’s BBQ is an institution and rightfully so. Great BBQ - and sides. It is exactly what you expect every time. Which is great.

Super delicious beef, delicious side dishes, totally lively atmosphere, totally sympathetic staff. A real Texas experience!

This was an unplanned stop for our tour, due to the cold weather and we are so happy for the stop! Brisket was AMAZING, our favorite sides were the corn and the green beans.

This was a recommendation for us from friends who have previously been to Austin. They have a great outdoor space with shared patio tables and seating inside. The food was good, but we preferred Cooper’s BBQ over this stop. The staff was pleasant and helpful.

To be honest it tasted pretty similarly to the other two "rivals" in town (Franklin and Terry Black's). I regret not ordering a sandwich-like burger that had all sort of meats in the same dish; the sausages were not that good.

Couldn't get our act together so this was our only foray into the BBQ world of Austin. Didn't disappoint but not completely fantastic. The menu is pretty straightforward with counter service. I had the lean brisket with mac and cheese and baked beans. Good selection of bottled/canned Texas beer. The brisket was very tender and tasty. Mac and cheese was good, beans were very forgettable. Those can be skipped. This place was great because we didn't have to wait in line for hours on end like some of Austin's other famous BBQ places. I think the quality and taste was comparable, if not completely on par with the other places. This should be a stop on any food tour through the city.

Would not recommend. Brisket was average at best, no smoke ring. Ribs were just okay and pork was sub-par. Potato salad potion was small and appear to be store bought. Would not recommend.

I don’t live in Texas, but whenever I visit, I have tried to visit Black’s BBQ in Austin or Lockhart. Today I bought 3/4 pound of “fatty” brisket in Austin. Usually this type of brisket, the crown jewel of Texas BBQ, is tender and moist. Today, sadly, it was very tough and dry. Pretty much inedible. I could barely cut it and it wasn’t worth chewing. I can’t believe that the person who sliced it couldn’t tell how tough it was. Maybe it was overcooked or cooked at a high heat, but I ended up throwing most of it away. At $29 a pound, and with their reputation, I didn’t appreciate this. It was a BIG disappointment. I have eaten brisket all over Texas, and this was the worst I can remember. I’m sorry. I guess you can have a bad day. But this was terrible BBQ.

Earlier this morning we had coffee near Franklin’s and saw the line that started at 6am Sunday morning. If a 5 hour wait doesn’t float your boat then Blacks is gonna save the day. We ate a bunch of ribs - meaty and fall off the bone. Fatty brisket- tender as can be, Mac n cheese, beans and a jalapeño cheddar sausage. BBQ fulfilled and awesome service. Definitely a return spot. Enjoy

Just WOW! My wife considers the pork ribs she had here the best of any bbq we’ve had. Meaty, tender, and smokey. And their brisket was incredible. Usually when a joint expands, which Black’s has, something is lost. But not in this location. Their attention to their bbq is apparent. This is what you’re craving in Texas bbq! Oh and try the cobbler…

If you're looking for fancy don't expect it a really classic barbecue place. Expect and get great flavor, juicy, messy, and HUGE portions. And only in Texas , a can of wine . Sides huge and tasty,

I LOVE BBQ! That being said, this was my second bbq place in Austin. I have plans for a few more during my stay. So- the verdict...the beef rib was incredible! I asked for some burnt ends and they were great too! Honestly, I luckily arrived before the line to get into the place and I was sooo happy to have decided to make this place one of my bbq stops! Enjoy!

We had a great sample: brisket sandwiches, 1/2 chicken white meat, jalapeño link, beef bone, corn, Mac & cheese, and pecan cobbler. The great was brisket, link, and all of the sides. The pecan cobbler not to be missed! The ones we would not get again: The big beef bone…very expensive and you are paying a lot for the fat (very fatty) and bone…ours was 1.5 pound and $45, skip it. The white meat chick quarter VERY dry, should have gotten the dark meat. Bbq was good and place has a fun vibe. Probably the best brisket we had while in Austin.

My son had a friend refer us here for our trip to Austin/- it was Delicious! I had turkey, my son had brisket & sausage-- all cooked just right-- delicious!! Casual atmosphere. Parking is difficult-- if I had the choice, I'd try to bring the smallest car.

A friend who went to school in Austin recommended Blacks and we weren't disappointed at all. The meat was available by the pound which made it easy for the two of us to share a lunch. We ordered the brisket which was fabulous, juicy and cooked perfectly. We added macaroni and beans as our side. We thought we needed bread but didn't. Would definitely recommend.

This eatery has fantastic brisket, pork and chicken!! The extra cheese macaroni was a highlight also! Though their beans were quite disappointing. The peach cobbler was tasty. Next time we're in town we will definitely partake of their fare again!!

Have been to San Antonio, Kansas City, all over Texas and in NC. This was by far, the most tender barbecue I have ever tasted. Tried pork ribs where meat fell off the bone. Tried brisket which was moist and tender. Sausage was good and not too spicy. Got the largest beef rib I have ever seen and watch in amazement as the meat fell off the bone on this also. Moist and tender - more than most pork ribs I have had! Street corn was basically corn in a chipotle sauce. People were super friendly. Can’t say enough good about the place! Hidden gem!

I’ve been here (Guadalupe store) quite often and never had anything as greasy as tonight. It seemed the ribs had never seen a real fire, much less smoke. I’d save my money and go somewhere else until they correct this mess. Sides still good.

Have dined at Black's in Lockhart on a couple occasions. First time in Austin as it is a favorite of my friend who lives in the city and dined with us. Black's Austin is great. We enjoyed brisket, sausage, beef ribs and chopped beef sandwich. Nobody left hungry. The atmosphere is nice too, whether you dine inside or out. The only compliant is parking, not enough of it, took some time to finally capture a spot across the street. If you are a BBQ affectionado, Black's is outstanding. Enjoy!

Local tip guided us to Blacks bbq. We were not let down, this small joint had us drooling when we opened the door. Meats were top notch and I really like how they carve it to order. Sides are stick to your ribs good. Cold beer rounds out the meal. Nice job. Well worth the visit.

From the patient staff to the patient person smoking the meat, this place does everything right!! Just like you can't rush a good smoke, you shouldn't rush a customer and the guys behind the counter helped each customer with patience, laughter and knowledge. We got it all!! First time in Austin and first BBQ in Texas so we wanted a baseline to compare all other to! At this time, it's gonna be rough for anybody to compare, everything we ate was solid!! The Beef Rib is melt in your mouth, fall off the bone, perfect meat fat ratio, smokey delicious goodness and completely stole the show! The other meats are great with that tender smoked goodness but the beef rib is where it's at! We tried three sides as well and the Mexican Corn is off the chain delicious! Smokey, spicey, creamy and addicting! Black's has been doing this for 90 years and it shows, everything was the best! We'll be back and highly recommend you skip the lines at the other places and head over to The Original Blacks!

First time visiting Austin, and wanted some good Texas BBQ. DEFINITELY not disappointed. Brisket and turkey were moist and well smoked. Sausage was amazing. Loved the generous availability of condiments, especially the whole jalapeños. My daughter was not a huge fan of brisket until tonight.

Recommended by British TV Chef James Martin, we decided our first taste of bbq on our US trip would be at Black's. We were not disappointed. The brisket was so tender and full of flavour. The sides of coleslaw and corn were good too.

WOW! Get there early if you want to enjoy it and not wait too long. Food is top notch. Meat falls off the bone.....

This was our second BBQ stop during our trip to Texas and unfortunately did not exceed the first. There was no line so we had ample time to talk to the cashier and figure out what we wanted. The person was very helpful explaining the top sellers and portion sizes. We finally picked the following for our dinner: 1. Fatty beef brisket-This was the first time I’ve seen this on a menu. It was a fattier cut of beef brisket but overall it was very tender and juicer. 2. Pork ribs- The Meat was not fall off the bone that I am normally used to getting. The pork while tasty also seemed to be a little on the cold side. 3. Mac n’ Cheese-lots of cheese and creamy. There was a lot of open seating on the picnic style tables both in and outside the restaurant. I the table had a brownish roll of paper towels (recycled paper) and one bottle of BBQ sauce that we liberally applied to our dinner. The BBQ sauce was good. You bus your own tray and trash afterwards. Pricing overall was a bit more than the first one we ate at since we were charged based on actual weight while the other served as a meat plate option and eyeballed the portions. Decor was informal with the history of the place highlighted on the wall as well as on various photos hung near our table. Texas license plates are used as accents along the edge of the window and surprisingly in the bathroom as edging on the floor.

Only in Austin one rainy day before flight home, but picked the Original Black’s BBQ as our main meal, not disappointed. BBQ and sides were great. We left smelling like BBQ but at least we picked the right food.

We wanted to go here the Saturday night I arrived. But the line was around the block of people waiting when we got there around 8pm, so we went for Italian that night. Our strategy on Sunday (before President's Day) was to get there early and plan on waiting in line. That worked! The end of the line was within sight when we arrived close to 7pm so we joined it. They sell Black Frozen Margarita's (get it?) for people waiting. They were fruity and good if a little off-putting to drink something that color. Word is they get their color from charcoal. Makes sense. Our total wait: 45 minutes. We learned that this isn't a waiter/table service place but more of a cafeteria. Fine with me. You pick your sides and then decide which of the meats look best. See instructions in pic below. My daughter and I each ordered the beef ribs. You slide your tray, grab a beer, pay and find an empty table, which wasn't difficult. The ribs were great, tender, smokey and flavorful. They came on huge bones, see little dog with bone. We even had leftovers to take home. Fun Austin place.

Excellent Mac n’Cheese and delicious brisket! It’s like a little cafeteria line ordering your food, everything is cut in front of you and you can order whatever you wish! It’s quick, easy, and good!

Juan is a Pitt Boss that treats you like family. Quick with a smile and a carving blade...always ready to suggest something off the menu. I could wax on for a while about the awesome homemade sausages, pork ribs from heaven, or the brisket that drowns you with flavor on the FAT side only to slap you in the back of the head with smokey goodness with the LEAN side, or how the beef ribs are fallin' off the bone good and deserve some sort of statue in front of the building. What is most important is how you'll recognize a real love for the product they are producing. What I will say is this...parking off 31 and a half is easy, the vibe is friendly and super family oriented, you ask a menu question you probably get multiple answers with smiles and graciousness, superb mix of sides, a few solid desserts, and beer from local breweries if you so choose. As I reflect on my experience at Blacks, it isn't the fact that I'll hold it up as a great example of what Texas BBQ is all about, it is how someone used to Blacks could every travel anywhere else and try to replicate it.

Don’t miss it...some of the best BBQ I’ve had...The Austin location was easy to get to and the staff was friendly

Pretty good, but downtown Nashville BBQ was better. It DID have good sides and a nice atmosphere. I would recommended getting a bit of everything and sharing with our partners.

We passed through Austin on our way to visit family in South Texas. Being from out of state, we were on a mission to find great brisket. We could not have done better. The fatty brisket was moist, tender, and one pound was more than enough for two to share. The street style corn was good as well. The sweet tea was right on point. Not too sweet, not over-brewed.

Damn good BBQ. Damn good. I got the fatty and lean brisket (both exceptional) but I eyed the beef rib and I knew I was in for something special. Easily the best beef rib of my life. So tender and nicely rubbed. Got the Mac n cheese (great) coleslaw (superior) and baked beans (nothing special there) for my sides. The service was fast and the dining area was clean. Also I didn't need to wait hours to get in or eat. Highly recommend.

My husband and I are in the Austin area for his job, had lunch here on a Saturday afternoon. Food was OUTSTANDING! We got bbq ribs and brisket, street corn, coleslaw, and 2 desserts, peach cobbler and pecan cobbler. They are very busy but the wait was well worth it!

Very nice bbq and good ambiance to have dinner. The place was a bit far from where I was staying but worth the trip :)

Recommended by our Uber Driver and she was on point. Waited in line for 15 min's, but so worth the wait. The restaurant was clean with friendly staff waiting on customers. We ordered 2 Brisket sandwiches, a Feelin Peachy Cobbler and A Pecan Cobbler for take out. We arrived back at our rental and enjoyed the smokey BBQ brisket sandwiches, which melted in our mouths. The cobbler was tasty sweet treat later in the evening. Next time I visit Austin in 2020, i'll be sure to come back to Blacks again.

Love Blacks BBQ but i am used to the setup and cleanliness of the San Marcos location. This location was surety, dirty toilets and flies both inside the restaurant as outside. The garbage bin for us to dispose of the plates at the end was a hazard and just way to dirty. My feel on Blacks BBQ just dropped from a 5 out of 5 to a 3 out of 5.

very good food, the guy cuts different kinds of meet just in front of you, I had turkey breast - heaven in the mouth, two different types of brisket and I also tried smoked rib that my friend ordered. its worth every penny!

Being from North Texas I have tasted good barbeque. Good. Blacks is GRRRRREAT! With decades of perfecting their game, it was no huge revelation that they have mastered the art & science of the pit. The brisket is moist and fork tender. It practically melts at the touch of the plastic fork. Surrounding that velvety meat is a perfect pink smoke ring and that is covered by gorgeous, dark and tasty bark. Oooohh 😋😍 Same story for the pork ribs.. the lightest touch with your teeth will pull lushious chunks of porky perfection away from the bone. And that sauce! Vinegary blend with a slight sweetness and definite chili taste. Excellent! Sausage was good but the brisket and ribs are the money!

In Austin, All the BBQ is good. Some are Amazing. Blacks BBQ is amazing. Come for the food and you will not be disappointed. The beef ribs are amazing. Turkey was Amazing. The Pork RIbs are very good. Cole Slaw and Mac & Cheese are very good. Blacks is not to be missed.

This was the 2nd time I have eaten at Black's, the original BBQ. We have enjoyed the food, the people, ans the ambience. Real Texas style BBQ. We are from out of town and would visit agian when we return.

Good home cooking bbq. Great people and atmosphere. Sausage and chicken was very good and the potato salad was also a favorite.

As a couple, we went to the original location in Lockhart and the food was mediocre. So, a few days later we had the opportunity to visit this location in Austin with family members and went and the food was excellent! When we got there, around 12:30PM on a Monday, there was only a few people in front of us, so the line went quick. Seating inside was really open as well, so it wasn’t tough to find a seat. We tried some lean brisket, fatty brisket, a beef rib that was HUGE, and some pork ribs and all of it was excellent! The beef rib was moist and very flavorful! Their jalapeños were nice! This location was a lot better than what we experienced at the on in Lockhart. Service here was friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend this location!

Had 1 1/2 lbs of ribs. There is a smoke ring and then there is near raw pork ribs inside. We had portions of the larger pork ribs that looked and tasted like eating undercooked red pork. Brisket was good and the cole slaw and potato salad also good. Will not have pork ribs there again

My wife and I had the best Brisket we have ever had in Blacks. We choose not to lean had was so tender you didn’t need a a knife to cut the meat. Macaroni salad was not so good dry and pasty. The green beans were excellent as was the pecan pie desert.

Love the walk in and order style... maybe This is typical for bbq?! Don’t know but I do know that the brisket was well seasoned and lean, the max and cheese had a little zip and the Mexican Street corn was amazing! Nice outdoor seating area too. Truly enjoyed our meal. Thank you!

My wife and I went here with our daughter and son in law for a final meal before returning to Illinois. Food was good. Carved and served right in front of you. Beef Rib and lean brisket were our meals of the day. Brought that T-Rex of a bone home to my dog. It is bigger than he is.

We got there at the perfect time right between the rush. The brisket and sausage so juicy and tender it was amazing! The corn and Mac and cheese are dynamite! The rice, potato salad, and green beans so very tasty! I would highly recommend it is a must go!!

Briskets are melts in your mouth, juicy sausages and beef ribs are the best bbq I had never ate. The price is ain’t that pretty. But meats are legit here

Had Blacks BBQ for the 10th time yesterday and it was as good as every other time. The Brisket is exceptional and the sausage is moist with the perfect balance of spice. The Mac and cheese and cream corn were perfect side dishes! Well done Blacks!

Since both Snow's and Louie Mueller do not stay open for supper, we decided to give Blacks a try last night. Both my wife and I grew up on K.C. bbq, so our standards are pretty high for this type of food. I have to admit, right off the bat, that there was nothing particularly interesting about their offerings. Seating is limited, and communal style, at indoor and outdoor picnic tables. You order your food cafeteria style and they make it as you order and pay. Beer and soft drinks are available. I had the slaw, beans, and a chopped beef sandwich. The beans were not bbq, just plain old out of the can beans. The slaw was passable. The bun, around the beef, became immediately soggy and unappetizing even before I took the first bite. Service is friendly and efficient. Prices are reasonable. Credit cards are accepted but not reservations, obviously. There is a small free parking lot and plenty of side street parking too. Both my wife and daughter had the "fatty" brisket sandwich and liked it. The sauce is fairly bland all around. So, would we go back? I doubt it.

Self serve style counter ordering. Sides served first, which cooled as we were waiting for our meats to be served. Food just average. Pulled pork tough and not flavorful. Could use some serious cleaning. Overall, would not go again.

Great service and delicious traditional BBQ! You will not leave hungry, especially if you have the beef ribs; lucky if you can find one less than 1-1/2 lbs!

Great service, nice atmosphere and the best BBQ that I have ever tasted! Dont worry about the line , it moves fast.

My friend and I are on a mission to explore Austin’s BBQ scene. Black’s is the eleventh one which we have visited and hands down it is either #1 or 2 (along with La Barbecue, but we have not been to Franklin’s). We had the moist brisket, which was outstanding with excellent flavor and bark, cut with a fork. The Mac and cheese was ok but nothing special.

I have been all over Tx for BBQ. This was NOT good. The sausage has enough grease in it to send a person into cardiac arrest. I'm serious. It letterally is composed of more fat than meat. It was the worse sausage other than Earl Cambells that we have attempted to eat. The BBQ we purchased 5 pounds was so tough and so greasy you needed to be a cow to chew it. It was the worse of the worse. We discarded most of it. A complete waste of 400.00 for our Corp Christmas Party. The Bananna puding is straight from the can with the artificail bananna flavoring. . Our all around experience? Over priced, take a pound of rolaids with you, a meat grinder to tenderize your bboq and bring your own REAL bananna pudding. Out corporate event will not use Blacks again.

Have heard that Austin had the best bbq in TX and that definitely is true. Tried many a bbq place and I do have to say, this was the best I've ever had. Never had been to Austin before this time and we picked Black's based on reviews. We both had the brisket (lean) with a bunch of sides. So good. We highly recommend this place.

This is a great Austin location. The smells were great as we were walking up. There was a pretty big line, and it was pretty crowded, but we did not have to wait very long. Before you go in, you are led by a guy at the window who will sell you drinks for the wait in line. The line takes you to a serving area with a good selection of vegetables and salads. A for meats, they sell it by the pound. They offered brisket, huge beef ribs, pork ribs, etc. I had the brisket. It was very, very good.

We had excellent brisket. They really stood up to their reputation. There were 4 of us and the consensus was unanimous. We will all be back and I heartily recommend this restaurant.

Black's is brisket heaven. The food here is incredible! The sides are amazing too - definitely need to go when in Austin you will not regret!

We went to Blacks at 7pm on a Sunday night, there was no queue, the food (Brisket, Pork ribs and coleslaw) was all excellent and the guys behind the counter very helpful. I would highly recommend eating at Blacks.

Had the brisket, turkey and sausage and coleslaw and mac and cheese. All were awesome except for the sausage. You should skip the sausage. Wife had a brisket sandwich and baked beans. Said it was the best she has had in Texas. Got there a bit after they opened and just had a few people in front of us. Meal paired well with a local bock beer. Highly recommend you pay them a visit for some awesome bbq!

We stopped by here after a visit to the LBJ Presidential Library. I'm from the KC metro area and we think we have the best BBQ in the country, so I wanted to see what Texas had to offer. Black's gets good reviews and it close to the LBJ Library. My wife had a smoked turkey sandwich. The turkey breast was sliced thickly after we ordered it and she received a very generous portion. It was extremely tender with the exterior edge was extremely salty. I had the chopped beef sandwich that also included a very generous amount of meat. It was mixed with sauce so I didn't get a true taste of the meat. The sauce was rather bland and its strongest note was that of vinegar. Thanks for reading. If you’ve found this helpful I’ll appreciate a thumbs up below.

I’m telling you, Blacks has some of the best brisket I’ve ever had in my life. Get the fatty cut not the lean. Get it on a sandwich and wash it down with a Lonestar. Highly recommended.
Texas BBQ Heaven
I really loved Black's BBQ. Its brisket was incredible, moist, and flavorful. They hit it out of the ballpark. The pork ribs and chopped beef brisket was wonderful! The Mexican street corn was top notch. My wife had the smoked chicken and thought it was just okay. I think they are almost as good as Franklin's brisket but quite a bit cheaper. I highly recommend this place and will be going back next time in Austin and ordering online. Amazing!
