Very tasty

By Ron A |

It was my first experience in Thai food, but not the last:) The rice was delicious and Wagyu beef excellent, with a nice glass of red Zinfandel..The waitresses are very professional and the place is "casual-smart", the presentation of food is high class...I was in Lombard street and i have been very pleased to discover Chestnut street.

American - Asian fusion

By Kelly R |

We were at Blackwood for Sunday Brunch. A large menu indeed. Plates too full ~ It is my negative comment. Weighting is around 30 minutes and tables very crowded. There is outside and indoor sitting. Great Mimosas.

Surprising

By Bishwadeep B |

It has the reputation for Thai food with an American twist so I wasn't expecting much by way of authenticity. The portions were huge when they came and the food lovely. The maitre is very friendly and although it isn't cheap it was a very satisfying meal

Loved it

By From5280ToZero |

This is a great choice for something different, and expertly prepared. I think you could get about anything off the menu and it would be great. Looking up and down the restaurant you could see dish after dish, each as appealing as all of them were. We ordered a couple of different items to share and nothing was disappointing. Don't think twice about coming here if you're in the marina district. This is the type of restaurant that helps you realize why SF is such an outstanding food city.

Great Upscale Thai Food in the San Francisco Marina District

By lenora young |

I discovered Thai food in Southern California. Most of the Thai restaurants in SoCal are excellent. I traveled to Thailand, and was pleased to discover that the food was very similar in taste and quality. When I moved to Northern California, I had difficulty finding a really good Thai restaurant. The sauces can be anemic, the meat is often of poor quality, and the vegetables are mushy and possibly past their expiration date. And then there is Blackwood in the Marina District in San Francisco. Their tagline is “American Thai Cuisine.” That doesn’t begin to describe how good the food is, fusion or not. Their dishes are imaginative, yes -- in terms of how they pair various meats and vegetables together. But the basics, by which I mean their curry sauces and such, are excellent and stand on their own. A simple bowl of rice and one of their curry sauces would make for a wonderful meal. Their curries are that good. Full bodied, never watery -- always prepared with integrity. Some of their signature dishes include “Fried Chick’” which is heaven for anyone who loves fried chicken. The chicken and fries are always crispy (never soggy) and the chicken breast is always tender, thoroughly cooked -- but never dry. The accompanying crispy russet wedges are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Their Millionaire’s bacon is perfectly cooked and comes with asparagus and other treasures. I've had some mealy and gristly millionaire's bacon in other restaurants. Blackwood's is consistently flavorful, with just the right texture and balance of sweetness and spiciness. We had their braised ribs the other night, and there was not one hint of excess fat and absolutely no gristle. The meat almost fell off the bone, it was that tender. Other favorites are their Stone Pot, the Blackhawk Belly, and the Short Rib Tacos. They even had a chicken salad that our non-adventurous friend loved. We haven't eaten our way through the entire menu, but we have never been disappointed by whatever we've ordered. They focus on the quality of their food and are consistent in their preparation. If it weren't for the imaginative pairings of food, such as panang curry sauce on a large but tender short rib, you wouldn't know you weren't in an upscale restaurant in Thailand. Dishes are large and ideal for sharing. Their deserts are also wonderful. Try the mango and sticky rice -- something I even ordered for breakfast all over Thailand. The restaurant is well-appointed and clean and filled with locals. The waitstaff is friendly and dedicated to customer service. There is no "trendier than thou" attitude here -- although the clientele ranges from foodies, trendies, and people just wanting a good meal. Dress is anything from casual to "date night." Given the plethora of different cuisines in San Francisco, Thai fusion is hardly unique. What is unique about Blackwood is the fact that you will never have a bad, or indifferent, meal here. The dining experience will always be pleasant, the food will always be excellent. You'll never say, "What were they thinking?" which can happen in some fusion restaurants.

Breakfast and Dinner

By David Lim |

We have breakfast and dinner at this restaurant... I have the complete breakfast meal, BW pancake together 2 eggs and bacons... its very good.... and my friend have the Stone pot original... taste was just fantastic... For dinner...I was looking for something spicy and I have the Tom Yum Noddle... its did not disapoint me... the soup was hot and spicy and the seafood was fresh.. and my friend have the After Shock... a Wok fried crispy chicken, onion, bell pepper, dry chili, cashew nuts, scallion, water chestnut with sweet chili paste sauce & jasmine rice, which is not as I have expected... could have been better... Overall... a good American and Thai fusion restaurant... worth trying... the menu have many choice... would advise to check out the menu first before your visit..

Best meal we had in San Francisco

By Ann-Maree H |

My partner and I went here for breakfast while in San Francisco. The restaurant is beautifully clean and the staff friendly. Our meals were so well presented and decently sized for their price, and also delicious! The orange juice was also freshly squeezed too, unlike the rubbish they serve at other restaurants. Would return.

excellent food and service

By eden r |

We didn't regret stumbling upon this restaurant after leaving disappointed for not getting a table at a famous seafood place on that same street. The ambiance and service were good.We ordered Thai food, one was one of the chef's special(King Salmon) and the other is Thai Panang Curry.I was very impressed that the ingredients used were fresh and the food in general was of good quality.Upon serving our food, a small piece of the tea box(By the way, they serve their tea still in the box and I unwrapped it myself) fell on my sauce at the end of the plate. They were very apologetic and grateful that i let it pass with the comment "It's not a big deal, it's just a paper that I know isn't dirty."We left the place with a happy tummy.

Artistic Fusion

By Kelly R |

A wonderful artistic meal indeed. The presentation and flavors were outstanding. It is a small restaurant so reservations are highly suggested. Service very good.

Millionaire's bacon alone is worth the visit but there's more...

By Susan L |

With a warm venue, welcoming staff and excellent food, this place is a real winner. The most outstanding item on the menu is the Millionaire's bacon, an amazing combination of flavors, sweet and spicy, thick and juicy. But all the other menu items, some more for breakfast, some for lunch, will also more than satisfy your tastebuds.

Delicious Thai Influenced Food

By IngZel |

We had brunch at Blackwood. At 11 am they start serving some different dishes so I ordered lunch. I had a Hot Stone style dish with prawns, jasmine rice and egg. Delicious! You could even share this it is so big. I would order the Million Dollar Bacon as a side. My family ordered an avocado salad and an omelette and my girls shared it. Some Chai Iced tea is the perfect match! Great area of town. Very hip and trendy. A little wait in line but it's worth it.

Cute and fun!

By Michele S |

Cute restaurant and really nice food. The wine Bloody Mary was nice and spicy too. I had the Francisco Benedict and thought the eggs were cooked great at a medium heat. My husband had the burger and said it was alright.

Thai food

By pammundell |

Cute little restaurant with outdoor and indoor seating. Probably the best Thai food I've had in San Francisco. Medium spicy is pretty hot but good hot. My panang curry was really good. Very impressed with the menu and food. Also the service is super fast and everybody that worked there was friendly. Definitely will go back back.

Wonderful food

By p f |

This was our first time at Blackwood. Typical SF, limited parking and the City charges $0.25 for 3 minutes .... but drop the quarters. The food and service at Blackwood's was delicious and wonderful.

Use the “No Wait” app!

By Hhefton |

After reading reviews we decided to try brunch here. It was absolutely amazing! The place is very crowded and there is a long wait. But it is well worth it. You can use the app called “Nowait“ and go ahead and put yourself in line. It made all the difference. We had the lemon ricotta pancakes and the crunchy fried French toast with eggs and the billionaire bacon. However the people next to us had the Thai hot stone pots. And they looked wonderful! We were just in the mood for brunch food. I would highly recommend this restaurant you can’t go wrong. Especially with the bottomless mimosas

Sunday Brunch with the Girls!

By Nicole A |

I went to Blackwood with my colleagues for their Sunday Brunch. We waited about 30 minutes to be seated but given how busy it was it was not too bad of a wait. Our waiter took our order promptly & the food came out within 10-15 minutes and was delicious! One of the best Omelet's I have ever had, was really flavorful, and I LOVED that it has Thai influences (diced mango & chili peppers). My only complaint was that there seemed to be some fruit flies inside which was a little annoying. Everything else was fantastic, really great meal & will definitely be back!

Amazing Brunch

By Britpaige |

Second time coming here for breakfast/brunch when in the city. Just as good as the first time-the rainbow potatoes that come with most of the breakfasts are out of this world good, never had potatoes cooked like that. The first time I believe I had the BW Scramble which was very good, this time I tried the breakfast sandwich (one with chicken sausage in it), it was very good but I think I prefer the scramble, I think what threw me off is the "aioli" they used on the bread as I am not a fan of mayonnaise so sometimes I can take an aioli and sometimes it has too much of a mayo taste but minus that slight issue everything was still very good. Oh and the millionaires bacon is a must as a side no matter what else you order. I can see why it takes a good 30 minutes to get a table here as its just that good!

A great breakfast choice!

By KennyC |

Went to Blackwood for breakfast as it was near our hotel. I tried the BEC Melt which is a scrambled egg with Applewood bacon sandwich. The portion was huge and was very tasty. Crowd starts to pour in after 930am and start to have a queue on a Sunday morning.

Brunch success!

By 123kafox |

We ate at Sweet Maple yesterday, and Blackwood today. As sister restaurants, they both provide such a delectable menu that we had a hard time picking a dish to order - it all looks too good! I had a healthy 'red and green' egg dish with heaps of vegetables. It was perfect after my morning workout. My fiancee had eggs + millionaires bacon which he absolutely loved. After young at approx the same time to each (on a weekday), Blackwood would possibly be a choice where you could get the same Sweet Maple dishes without the long wait. Enjoy!

Love this little place!

By Nattibgood |

Every time I visit SF Blackwood is a must! Luv, luv, luv the stone pot! The original and the prawn are my fave. Downside is that I've never found a good time to go. The wait always seems to be quite long regardless of the time of day. In its defense, the restaurant is quite small. The system for queueing waiting guests does not seem that efficient. But, if you are willing to wait, the food will not disappoint.

Delicious

By Stephanie W |

This place was a block from our hotel and we are so lucky we found it. The lemon ricotta pancakes were amazing as was the savory porridge (which can be made vegetarian). I highly recommend it for brunch.

Frequent Visitors

By Indy562 |

Our son lives in the Marina Area and to visit we make sure we go to Blackwood. Our favorite place to sit is outside by the fireplace. Everything we have ever had is great here. Today I had the stone pot mango chicken with fried egg on top. The server mixes it up for you at the table and I have to say it was fantastic. My husband had the rice plate of cashew chicken. We both loved our dishes. Service is great. The only negative is the tables are very close together but very workable. We will definitely be back on our next visit to San Francisco.

Mine was 5 Stars, the Hubby's was 4.

By TNsnowflake |

We ate here for an early lunch. I had a raspberry mimosa (delicious!) and the Blackstone Benny. It was amazing! The eggs were poached just right, the flavors were incredible. I was very happy. My husband said his was just "ok." He ordered the Smoke Cashew Nut with chicken. He said it tasted like something you could order anywhere. Overall, I was very happy with the dining choice. The atmosphere is nice, the service was prompt, and the food flavorful. I believe our check (with tip) was around $60.

Very bad service

By matheuspatury |

I came with my family late afternoon to have some wines and the waitress told us to ask more dishes because we didnt asked enough. We are from brazil and we are not sure about the dishes and the waitress didn't even explained anything for us. I really recommend to come here with patience and a lot of luck to be able to sit....

Great for brunch and everything else

By steve3970 |

A bit crowded but not overwhelming and a bit noisy but not dysfunctional. A super brunch with an attentive staff in an attractive restaurant. If you are in the neighbourhood go for it.

Fine Thai Fusion

By RaySF |

Nice place to dine. The staff is attentive and polite. The dining area is clean and uniquely modern. The food is fine and tasty. It's prepared and presented well. No going wrong here.

Great breakfast

By Ian P |

Really enjoyed a ginger margarita on national margarita day. Breakfast with their amazing bacon is awesome.

Once again, TripAdvisor reviews steered us to the sweet spot

By OccamsShaver |

We just finished delicious brunch here (crab meat omelette and crab Benedict). There is a good reason that it is crowded at 10 AM Thursday morning. Portions were very generous. The berry substitute for potatoes was very fresh and worth the $3 upcharge. Coffee was very good. Highly, highly recommended. I would imagine that dinner is excellent also, but haven't tried it... yet.

Interesting twist on breakfast - high noise level

By calwinelover2015 |

We went on an early Saturday morning for breakfast. The place has a nice and tranquil ambiance at the time since it was not filled. The breakfast menu is quite enticing and all the dishes are beautifully presented. Our neighbor ordered the Pajun, some sort of pancake with shrimp and a poached egg that looked mouthwatering so I opted for the same. My companion ordered the Frisco Benny that was equally delicious-looking. Overall, the food was very interesting and different but half-way through our meal, a big party of at least a dozen young people were seated next to our table. The noise level became intolerable and it was impossible for us to have a normal, quiet conversation

Nice Surprise

By Trish B |

Going to another restaurant but it was closed so we ambled along and the scents wafting through the doors lead us inside! Tables a bit crowded. Portions HUGE! Samosas as appetizer outstanding, dipping sauce incredible. Papaya salad outstanding but should maybe come in half sizes or staff should explain how big they are as when ordered in combination with a main dish even my husband who eats a lot could not finish everything! I love bathrooms with fresh flowers. And a lovely hand creme too! A nice evening. Take down the photo of the fried egg, add back a photo of a bowl of some kind!

Great Menu

By SonomaNut |

Lots of people, so arrive early or get on waiting list. Brunch has lots of choices including Thai breakfast. Everything tastes better with Millionaire Bacon. Lemon pancakes are great too, with lots of excellent coffee. Not your typical egg and bacon place.

Excellent Thai flavors in a western environment.

By Paolo |

We were concerned about this American-Thai fusion concept, due to prior bad experience with the "fusion" concept. Dining in Blackwood has been great: we chose 3 typical Thai dishes and each of them smelled and tasted authentic. Service is good and the place is pleasant. One of our best dining experiences in SF.

Kurosawa Sake Divine

By markbrooks |

The After Shock crunchy chicken fusion dish is great but the Kurosawa sake is divine. This is a great venue for dates and small groups as well. Thai food heaven.

Excellent!

By Nathan S |

Everything we had was excellent. Wish we lived here so we could become regulars! Definitely recommend the BW Benedict and the pancakes!

Best Thai Food Experience Ever!

By jfisher11671 |

Literally the best and most unique Thai food experience we’ve ever had. Incredible brunch menu. However, we opted for lunch entrees - with bottomless raspberry mimosas and Tom Kha soup to start. My wife and I both thought our dishes were the best we’ve had. I had Panang Curry - my favorite. My wife had the ginger chicken street rice and raved the whole meal. Unlike any flavor profile I’ve had. Ginger basil margarita was a surprise treat as well. We sat outdoors by a cozy fireplace on a cool SF day and our server, Tik, took very good care of us. Recommend highly.

Just the ticket

By Weemango |

Having arrived late the night before, we went looking for an eatery near to our accommodation. We found Blackwood and enjoyed a pleasant breakfast. the staff were welcoming and patient and the food first class. In a city where there are restaurants or cafes on almost every corner it was a pleasure to discover this small eatery and would visit again

Amazing!

By Stacyzamora1 |

We came here on a recommendation and everything was perfect. The service was a little slow at first but got better as the night went on. The food was amazing and the sake they recommended was great. Very nice romantic dinner here. Can't wait to go back!

Tasty and noisy

By melancholy77 |

Came here to meet some friends for the first time and chat for a few hours. It's quite loud inside but could be typical for a Saturday late afternoon. Service was decent and the waiter checked on us multiple times. I had the Thai iced tea which was strong and decently sweet without being overpowered. We had the Ahi scoop appetizer as well as the Marina strips and both were delicious and well sized. My companions ordered a salad as well as an omelet plate, both of which came out pretty fast. For some reason, my Pad See Ew came out really late which is abit odd because you think this being a Thai-influenced restaurant would be a pretty quick staple dish to make. However, it came out hot and delicious. All in all, a decent place to check out if you're in the mood for "Asian fusion" Thai food in the Marina/Cow Hollow area. Expect dishes to be on the expensive side for what you are getting, esp if it's one of the more staple dishes... That way you'll enjoy your meal that much more!

Mouth water foods!

By Tasha H |

This is by far our fav place to it. I am such a foodie, especially with Asian foods (I'm half Japanese). The Beef Noodle Soup is fantastic. We sample their appetizers, and our favorite is the Ahi Tuna. My bestie ate their gigantic hamburger with that delicious bacon...OMG! Fantastic to say the least.

Bad call. A place to avoid.

By Maria Luiza M |

We went to lunch. the place was full, so we thought that could be a good experiente. Bad mistake. The food was not good at all. Chicken salad below expectations. Service was very impersonal. No will to please the customers. A place to avoid.

Great food and presentation. Good customer service

By windpace |

We had restrictions in terms of food choices - no garlic, no shallots and vegetarian only. The waitress was very patient with us in terms of suggesting the best options available. Food arrived on time and was tasty. We ordered Grilled Eggplant Sandwich and California Burger.

Terrible experience

By komal d |

I visited this restaurant with my friends for my birthday dinner after checking the Google reviews. The ambiance is beautiful, but unfortunately, the food was mediocre, and the service was terrible. We started with a few drinks recommended by the server, which were decent. However, the food lacked flavor. To make things worse, they served our main course without rice because, according to them, it was still cooking—we had to wait 15 minutes for it. The worst part of the experience was finding a hair in both the fried calamari and the salmon while my partner was eating. We immediately brought this to the manager’s attention. She apologized, removed the item from the bill, and offered us two free drinks. When we received the bill, we noticed a $70 auto-gratuity had been added. Upon questioning the manager about this, she became argumentative. We asked if she would take responsibility for any health issues my partner might face due to the contaminated food, but she outright refused. Instead, she removed the auto-gratuity but then charged us for the "on-the-house" drinks. To top it all off, we ended up with food poisoning. Be aware before dining here!

Delicious dinner

By Bas K |

Nice service and wonderful food. The four of us all enjoyed our dinner. From salads to the After Shock. We definitely come back here when we are back in SF.

Amazing!

By Christina C |

We went here not once but two times over our time in the city. Though the happy hour was good, the breakfast was phenomenal and portions were huge. Millionaires bacon is a must

Upscale Chic

By Christy A |

Amazing food!! Beautiful establishment; very well designed. Patio sits just off of Chestnut St. in the Marina District which offers a great city view surrounded by tons of shops and people-watching. If that's not your thing, there is a flat screen TV hanging outside for your entertainment purposes as well. The interior is very chic; low lighting and contemporarily designed. High ceiling, lots of glass with a minimalist touch. Service was decent (the actual server taking our order seemed distracted, tired or just not in the moment) the table attendant (who actually brought our food, filled our drinks and made great recommendations) was more on point than the server himself. Anyway, I enjoyed the food immensely, especially the Ahi Spoons and Pumpkin Curry dish. The presentation was nice and well garnished. I'll keep this one bookmarked for my next SF visit. ~Christy

Really a winner

By K9croo |

Blackwood pleased three fairly picky eaters with ease, which doesn’t alays happen. Asian fusion works here. I was amazed at the “naked salmon temaki” dinner with smoked thin salmon rolled around julienned peppers, onions, dill and other greens, topped with a mini lemon wedge holding a little mound of caviar. This offered a sublime gentle mix of flavors, but for excitement, there were dollops of a wasabi cream for dipping. A salad of greens in a light dressing completed the plate. It was as gorgeous as it was delicious. Friendly efficient service was appreciated.

Incredible Breakfast

By Sophie Prior |

My husband and I went for Sunday breakfast at 10 the other week (it opens at 9am) and it was AMAZING! The portions are huge and such good value. We had the Blackwood eggs Benedict. Also try the millionaires bacon, it is incredible. Excellent service and lovely decor - nice work Blackwood! The area is also really nice to stroll around.

Birthday dinner

By Leanne Y |

My friend and I started out with the shrimp appetizer which was well presented and very tasty! We ordered the “Millionaire bacon with two U-10 sized scallops. For the price, there should have been three. The scallops were small. The eggplant was good with a spicy green sauce for that Thai flavor. We tried the beef short rib with a red curry sauce, asparagus, bell peppers, and small bowl of rice which was okay. We thought about ordering one of the angus steak entrees but when asked what cut of steak, the server could not answer and didn’t go to the manager or chef to find out. Servers need more training. They have a big screen TV, and the acoustics noisy so if you are hard of hearing, it’s a challenge to have a conversation. It’s worth trying at least once! The chocolate cake with vanilla gelato, whipped cream and a strawberry tasted like a chocolate truffle!

You will definitely eat every bite

By Teri S |

We were there with 8 people and ordered many different dishes. Every dish was a huge hit. The menu is extensive and quite varied. Only downside was the long wait.

Awesome food

By bourkey24662 |

We were looking for somewhere to eat lunch near our accommodation and come across Blackwood and enjoyed fantastic food, it was hot, tasty and fresh. We had the Pad See Ew and Pork Stir Fry, delicious. Would definitely eat there again!

One of the treats of Marina/Cow Hollow area

By Grizz55 |

ate outside late and the only negative was ragged service. table enjoyed the sizzling pot special. Others in our party returned for brunch and raved.

Pretty good for Asian fusion........

By KCinLG |

I’m not really into Asian Fusion food, but I have to say, lunch here may’ve made me change my mind. I’ve eaten here for breakfast/brunch, but today, I had a late lunch and realized it’s Thai Fusion. Wasn’t jazzed but at the same time, whatever the table next to me had, I was like WHOA. I ended up pointing to the table across from me and ordering ‘whatever that table is having’. Turns out it was the Hot Stonepot and the Pimped Up Ramyun. FYI, I am not sure if the entrees are made for a single portion, but we ordered two entrees for four. There is just no one a super hungry person can finish one plate. I would order less and add on if necessary. The waitress and staff are very friendly and as speedy as the food came out after ordering, I opted to wait a little to order bc my group was late. Overall, great tasting food, good service, good quality for the money. I would def go back. Oh, I didn’t take advantage of this, but they have bottomless mimosas for $26. It’s limited to one hour but if you can get three glasses in (big pours and not over juiced), it’s worth it. Parking can be challenging but I know the area, so I parked at 1598 Bay Street around the condos (no parking meters) and just walked over (10 min).

Take Out Fushion

By Marty m |

We just picked up take out last night. Although we thought we had bought too much food all of it was gone except the Tofu (but then Tofu always seems to be left over at our meals). The food was delicious. The people were very nice and the restaurant was full of hipster types both inside and out.

A Must Visit on Chestnut St

By Terry R |

We have strolled up and down Chestnut St looking for good dining options, we have eaten at a few and found them all to be great. However, last night we dined at the Blackwood and were bowled over by the alternative fusion cuisine. In short it was a feast of different tastes and one not to be missed. Normally we would only have two courses but tonight we had three, finished off with fried ice cream, wicked.

Stylish and Excellent

By Mishhkaa |

This was a very chic place! Very full, and worth waiting in a line. It was a bit chilly that day, so we have decided to sit inside. However, I would definitely sit outside if the weather allowed that. I had a lot of pancakes during our West Coast trip, but these were just from another time and space :-) My friends had some poached eggs on an avocado toast, also very satisfied. San Francisco offers many great places and this is one of them.

Great find round the corner!

By corky617 |

We had accommodation on Lombard St so found this jewel just around the corner. We didn't have to wait for a table and the service throughout was excellent. My wife had the King salmon fillet while I had the fried chick. My chicken came with a gorgeous yellow curry sauce and my wife salmon was cooked to perfection. The evening ended well with new experience, a Sake bomb! Just ask!!

A new favorite

By zu23 |

A friend brought us here for a 'Thai fusion breakfast' and I didn't know what to expect. Did a little preview online and found great reviews and pictures, but as always you never know until you actually experience it for yourself. Must say that I was impressed all around especially, and most importantly for me, with the food. Nice decor and good service also added to an overall great experience. Luckily we got there early, around 930, before the crowd started to build. By the time we finished about an hour later it was quite a wait for a table. Highly recommend the crispy fried french toast - best french toast I've ever had.

Very tasty

By Marije Hennus |

Situated on cosy Chestnut street, Blackwood offers delicious american thai fusion foods. The service is friendly, portions big and more importantly delicious. Try the fresh Raspberry Lemonade...best ever!!!

Great find for Thai Fusion!

By ascott510510 |

We were looking for menus while walking near our hotel, and Blackwood stood out as they had several gluten free options for me! OMG, so delisous! Food was THE best Thai I have had, and the wait staff was really pleasant and happy to help with my GF requests. We had to go back another night as we enjoyed the first so much. Kudos!

Never again!

By Ularu |

I’m a regular here when ever I’m visiting from Australia (a few times a year) and I’ve always loved the food, BUT My wife and I dined at Blackwood last night and we were shocked at the poor quality of our dishes. My wife had Salmon and I had Chicken in red chilli sauce. Both meals were extremely oily and tasteless, my wife asked the server if there was a new chef and he replied “yes, we have a new chef training”. A truly disappointing experience at an expensive, but once great Thai restaurant.

My New Favorite Lunch Place

By William B |

Well, the title says it all. I have been walking past this restaurant for a couple of years and so about a month ago I was in the mood for Asian Fusion and decided to stop in. I am soooo upset that it took me this long to do this. I work nearby and the Marina is the perfect place for me to break my day for a relaxing lunch. Let's start with the space. There are inside and outside eating areas. The small outdoor area has communal tables and 3 tables for 2. There as an attractive gas fireplace that is wonderful on cool days. The communal tables are just that. They seat 8 and can get "cozy". If you are not willing to follow the etiquette of communal tables, please sit at a regular table and don't hassle the staff. They work very hard and do not deserve it. The indoor area is nicely designed in a contemporary decor with high ceilings, skylights and nice furnishings that provide a calming almost zen feel. One comment is that it is time to recover some of the chairs - but please overlook this for a truly great experience. The staff could not be nicer. They have quickly memorized my likes and dislikes and when I order something so I don't have to go into ridiculous detail each time - a sign of true professionalism. Everything is EXTREMELY efficient. Food comes out quickly even when it is busy. I prefer the weekdays because it is quieter. The weekends can be a bit of a mob scene - but somehow they manage to keep everything coming out and moving. I've watched them deal with rapid fire orders and I have never noticed any major issues with any tables. They just keep smiling and deliver the food politely and graciously. They are really very friendly and go out of their way to make your dining experience a great one. They have been very wise and lucky in their hiring. One comment is to not necessarily be that efficient in taking away dishes. It can feel a little rushed and I know that is not the case. Now for the real reason to eat out... the food. As I said it is primarily Thai but actually Pan-Asian Fusion. There is an extensive breakfast menu, sandwiches and burgers if you are not feeling very adventurous - all have a twist. They look beautiful and everyone I've taken there says they are great. But this is a place to go outside your comfort zone. Go with what they do best - Stay with the Asian side. Their appetizers are great - I have made a meal out of them. The Marina Strips (Tender beef wrapped around dressed cucumber, carrot, lemongrass and dill) are wonderful as are the Ahi Tuna Scoops (Seared Ahi over dressed cucumber and seaweed salad.) Both are perfection. The mushroom spring rolls are also very good. I truly love their salads - especially the Spicy Ahi Tuna Salad. It has beautifully seasoned diced ahi over gloriously fresh greens that are perfectly dressed in a balsamic/rice wine vinaigrette. It is one of those dishes that just comes together perfectly with the just right amount of sweet/acid/spice. Another favorite is the Green Curry with Chicken and my latest is the Stone Pot which is basically a beautifully flavorful Korean-style Bibimbop. They have an interesting coconut soup which is definitely on the sweet side. It is easy to counter this by squeezing lemon wedges over top - I use 3-4. They are very open to customizing your order whenever possible. I just love this place. The dinner menu is mostly the same but with more varieties in the mains. So... for incredibly fresh ingredients, delicious preparations, presented beautifully by friendly staff - this is a great find. I can't recommend it enough. The price point is not inexpensive but comparable to other restaurants in the area. The experience, however, is significantly better - so value-wise it is amazing, especially with the generous portions. Go. Soon.

Good food and good wine: I recommend it !

By Didier D |

Another location close to my hotel during a conference week. Went for dinner and choose chicken: great taste. Good wines to go with the food. Efficient service. Not that cheap, but this is SF of course.

Good for dinner as well as breakfast

By PGlocal_12 |

Had dinner for the first time at Blackwood on Chestnut St in the Marina District. This has long been a favorite breakfast stop when we visit SF, but was equally delighted with their dinner menu. As always service was good, and wine selection went well with meals on the menu. My shrimp on fried rice was jumbo shrimp - similar to lobster tails in size - served in shells on a bed of flavorful and moist fried rice that was captured under a net of egg that was thin and looked to be done on a waffle iron. I am not a big egg person, but this was great, and did not taste like a traditional egg. Dessert was a good way to top off the meal and to share. Will definitely add this to our dinner rotation the next time we stay in the Cow Hollow neighborhood - which is our favorite place to stay in SF. The name Cow Hollow is derived from the fact that when SF was a young city this area was a dairy. No sign of cows remain, but this neighborhood has great restaurants, shops, and several nice smaller hotels that offer free parking on site.

Belly Up To Bkackwood

By briankulaf |

FriendlyMarina neighborhood joint. I like the fact that we can sit all fresco with our 2 pups. And thebservers truly are dog lovers. On the weekends it gets packed but with in/outdoor seating, the wait is worth it. The Millionaire thick cut salty/sweet bacon is a must. Any of the hot stone bowls are yummo. But, my hands down favorite is the melted cheese potatoes. Fresh, hot hand cut fries with melted white cheddar over them with 2 over easy eggs and diced bacon throughout. Add a thick slice of pan De mie and jam.....ahhhhh.

Now that's a Unique Menu

By BG_STL |

How about a Thai influenced brunch place in the Marina? Met up with a long time friend for brunch and saw this restaurant while we were walking prior to the meal. Vibrant atmosfphere with inside and outside (if you can get it) seating options. Menu is very unique, but delicious options that even the most "American" patron could find acceptable. Our table chose french toast, chicken/shrimp greek salad and poached eggs with toast. Very good wine and beer selections to go with brunch (what?????). Food was very good and our only comment was that the staff worked very hard to move you along as the line never slowed. Would do it again in a heartbeat. Highly recommend.

Bad experience

By Patricia Odette B |

We went on Saturday night, with a reservation, sat us in the worst table, waited 25 mn to get serve. Food was ok ( we had better few months ago) but the service was horrible. They took our plates so quickly, we didnt have time to react and the waitress even smothered our last pieces of meat with the rest of the sauce left without asking ., unbelievable ! Better place on Chestnut to go next time

Get as many appetizers as possible!

By CosmopolitanGirl8184 |

This place is so modern and fun, I totally recommend it! There was three of us and we decided to all get an appetizer to split, so we could try as much as possible! We got the calamari, samosas, and wagyu beef. Definitely get these three when you go, the sauce for the samosas was out of this world! We each got a main course (which was all amazing), but I recommend getting as many appetizers, so you can try everything. We went on a Tuesday at about 6pm and we got our food so fast, so go! My only thing was that I didn't have room for dessert, but I heard it was wonderful so don't make my mistake and save room!

Burned food and average service

By thalia_pap |

We visited this place with 6 friends for dinner. The service was quite bad; our waitress kept on picking up unfinished dishes! 2 out of 6 plates were burned so not the best culinary experience we had in San Fran. Fried calamari (entre) was quite good though!

A welcome change

By LetsFlySomewhere |

My wife and I have spent four nights in SF, staying in the Marina neighborhood. Overall, we've found restaurants here to be expensive compared to comparable places elsewhere (though perhaps not in "big cities") and of marginal -- or worse -- quality. Blackwood is a welcome exception. We had a very enjoyable dinner, consisting of chicken yellow curry for me and the "Fried Chick'" for her. (A careful reading of the menu will show that the two dishes are somewhat similar. That was an accident, as each of us simply ordered what he/she felt like eating.) The food was well prepared, very tasty and quickly served. We sat down a little on the early side, so they weren't really busy, but the service was perfect: attentive and efficient, well paced and congenial. The menu prices were much more in line, and represented good value in my opinion. The yellow curry sauce, which was the basis of my dish and used as a dipping sauce for hers, was delicious -- sweet with coconut, a bit spicy and infused with Thai basil. I ordered mine "medium heat" and found that it was a little tame relative to what I usually expect from Thai places, but that was fine with me. Whether the heat is uniform from dish to dish or night to night, I can't say. The menu is a little bit of an odd mix -- maybe two-thirds casual American and one-third (or a little more) Thai -- but who cares? If you see a dish you think you'd like, go for it. (Have you ever been to a straight Thai place with creme brulee on the menu?) If we were going to be around longer, I'd definitely give them a second try. And I really wish we had discovered them sooner so as to avoid some other sub-par meals.

Super busy and unnessarily expensive for brunch

By Julieanne H |

I’ve tried to have friends here three times, But the lines were too busy. Went on the Yelp app and got myself in line and still waited 40 minutes after I arrived with a total wait of over an hour. My husband ordered a crab omelette - not the greatest and I order the basic eggs and potatoes, We had a side consisting of two pieces of millionaires bacon and two regular coffees. Bill came up to $80 for breakfast and nothing about the visit was that special. Probably should’ve tried to order something more exotic, but we really were looking for breakfast and most people were eating similar dishes. The service was fine the plates were beautiful but not worth the time and money.

Very Busy

By _deemf89 |

No reservations in advance for brunch, there is an online wait list that you sign up for when you arrive at the door and they call when your table is ready. Very busy place, even when dining it seems like a very fast paced environment. The food was great - definitely have the millionaires bacon - I had it in the Blackstone Benny, delicious.

Blackwood, small but worth the wait

By sab1000 |

We waited an hours but watched as dishes we served. Everything look so delicious and smelled wonderful. The wait was worth the visual and tasting experience. The waiter was a bit course but it felt cultural, the front manager was pleasant. The did not have a good feeling for GF dishes or and true understanding of some of our needs but it worked itself out. The million dollar bacon was terrific and the kurry was good too. Enjoyed our visit

Granola parfait!

By Emily C |

I wanted something a little lighter to eat before exercising and I got the yogurt granola parfait. It was delicious. The amount of granola was almost too much-but can you ever have too much granola? The granola was broken up into larger chunks, the yogurt was sweet and tangy, and the fruit, which consisted of orange slices, blueberries and strawberries, was pretty great too. I thought it was a hit.

Super breakfast!

By Margaux M |

Went there for breakfast and wasn't disappointed ! The lemon ricotta pancakes were so tasty! And the eggs benedict were delicious and slightly spicy. The portions are huge (for an European). The owner is cheerful and very welcoming! Would recommend for sure

Sales-oriented location, cheeky staff

By Anna Ampel |

Reserved a table for New Years Eve at 8. Got a confirmation without any further information. When we arrived by 8.15 the waiter told us the kitchen will close soon, we better take the last chance for ordering. In expectation to a relaxed New Year's Eve in a cozy restaurant we were wondering about that pushing behavior. Then the staff explained the restaurant will close at 9pm for a private party. We had to eat away while the staff already rearranged the restaurant. Left the restaurant totally annoyed. And the staff reacted disgusted when we gave no tip... Guess why... Closing the restaurant at New Year's Eve is fine but you need to let your customers know when they reserve a table!!

Thai Con-fusion

By Timothy D |

It stared off well. Creative and tasty appetizers at Happy Hour and drinks were reduced price, but dinner entrées were lacking for a place rated 4.5 stars. Tasteless chicken, overly sweet coconut curry soup, bland fried rice. The braised beef rib had a nice spicy coating but meat had weird texture and I later got a horrific case of indigestion which happens maybe once a year for me. I'm confused why this place rates so high.

Okay food, service spotty

By Avrilx |

Attractive looking on the outside, so we went in to try it out. They serve American and Thai food. I like my green curry with chicken, but my hubby doesn't like his burger. He thought they made it too sweet. He likes the burger more savory. The fries are delicious and tasty though. Service was spotty.

Great food - go during happy hour

By cherrymullins |

The food was excellent. Happy hour is worth considering - order before 6 or 6.30pm as it's 50% off. The normal price for starters was around 14$. Everything we ate was really good and I would definitely return to eat here if I ever go back to SF.

Very Good Experience!

By Meesh89 |

Yesterday we tried Blackwood on a whim. SO glad we did! This was our first time trying real Thai food. I must say our server Aon was amazing! He was so great in answering our numerous questions, he had a lot of patience and was on point with everything he explained. He was also honest and came back to our table to let us know the gratuity was already included in our bill after we tipped again. Our water glasses were always full, the food came out perfect timing, service was EXCELLENT! On to the food- we ordered the mirage, mushroom rolls, calamari, pork belly salad and spicy sour soup. All were excellent, I could have eaten them for dinner! For entrees we ordered a mango salad, after shock, braised ribs, and chicken salad. The spices and flavor were outstanding, portions were perfect size as well. Aon our server warned us the chicken can be a little tough and he was totally right, it tasted good but was a little tough. The ribs were outstanding! In summary- excellent service, very nice ambiance, and very good food!! Our total rating was more like a 4.5 out of 5 :)

Amazing food. Terrible Service

By Mike_and_clare_01 |

The food is great so we were probably just unlucky. Seated at 8.45 (for a 9.15pm reservation) and the whole thing was just rushed and disorganised. One starter arrived 10 mins after the first. Then my wife's place was cleared and her main course arrived while I was still finishing my late starter. Then my main arrived and they tried to cram it on the table while I was still eating my starter. The waitress looked very unhappy when I asked for it to be taken away while I finish the starter. Half way through the main course (9.30 ish) we were asked what we wanted for desert. Then all waiting staff disappeared for about 30 mins! Bizarre. If you accept people into a restaurant at 8.45 and later then don't rush them and provide poor service. Or have a cut off for bookings. Very grumpy, rude and poorly trained waiting staff ruined what was actually fabulous food.

Delightful and flavorful.

By Nancy D |

My husband and I felt very "trendy" or as my daughter says "on trend." The menu was interesting with many choices for all. I brought my daughter's in-laws there for a special birthday dinner. We all had something different and enjoyed our dinners. Definitely go there again.

Interesting and Tasty Menu

By Remdawg30 |

We found this nice eatery while walking up Chestnut Street. It's a small and cozy place with some outdoor seating right on the sidewalk, which is where we enjoyed our dinner. We started with the mushroom rolls and crying beef salad. That was followed by Blackhawk Belly and pad Thai. All the food was nicely presented and very fresh.

Awesome unplanned breakfast

By Clint S |

Came in for breakfast on a Sunday morning with the fam while waiting for a tow truck to arrive.....I ordered the BEC melt, while the kids ordered the kids pancake. My wife ordered the crispy french toast....Everything we ordered was great...including the coffee...It seems like most diners and breakfast places struggle to make even a decent cup of coffee..it always shows up to the table looking like coffee flavored tea....Anyways..we were all impressed at the quality of the food here...I think the BEC melt deserves some kudos...everything came together perfectly....I would definitely recommend breakfast.

Ate here 2 of 3 nights!

By Nancy G |

Sat outside under the heaters. Very comfortable. Inside was nice...dark and maybe noisy. Nice outside & could see some ncaa. Sit family style. Food was very good. attentive service. Came back for a second dinner! reservations would be helpful.

Good bang for your buck!

By smash_cat |

I was here for dinner last week and it was amazing. I had the Green Curry Chicken and it was the best meal I had all week. As soon as it arrived I was pleased with the portion and the freshness of the vegetables, curry and rice. If you've ever been to Thailand you know that food comes out as it is ready and not as a complete table. Some of us were nearly done before the last dishes were served but we just ate slow and enjoyed every bite. The restaurant doesn't serve hard liquor, only beer and wine and they take reservations through Yelp, not Open Table.

Delicious family dinner

By Jeannine W |

We visited Blackwood with our 10 year old son after reading great reviews on TripAdvisor. The food was very tasty with amazing flavours & the service was great & attentive. Dessert was just as good finishing the night with full tummy after a day of sightseeing. Thank you & keep doing an excellent job.

Great food

By bubba |

With my daughter , she’s eaten here often and said it was always good. Curry Thai chicken, sexy ahoha with prawns. Samosas were great appetizer along with fried pumpkin.

Average

By Cara W |

Nothing stands out about this Thai food. The pad Thai was good and the appetizers were flavorful but I didn't want a dog box for the leftovers. Seating was terrible (we even had reservations and they seemed to forget about us) but the patio was alright with the fireplace. Service was mediocre and they were too short of staff given the patrons.

Food is Amazing, Service Staff is Bad

By Tokunbo A |

The title pretty much says it all. Their food is great. Everything on the menu is made with the utmost care and is very tasty. I had the one percenter burger medium and it was perfectly cooked. I feel that this place is very indicative of the neighborhood that it is located in. I went their with some of my friends and we were not wearing slacks, clarks and summer bottom ups. We were also a very diverse group of individuals which is not common to see in the Marina. We had some of the worst service, partly because the tip was already included so they did not need to work any harder and also because we did not look like their normal patrons. Funny because each one of my friends makes more money annually then anybody else that was seated in that restaurant. I would put money on it... because I have enough money to waste on betting on stupid things.

Awesome!!

By MrES |

Great American/Thai fusion restaurant at reasonable prices. Had both breakfast and dinner here. Food is great, service is great, location is great. Nice contemporary interior and pleasant atmosphere. Will definitely come back!

Good Gluten Free Menu

By thorpe |

Visited with husband and son without prior booking, they were busy but fitted us in, I suffer with Coeliac Disease so need gluten free options and they had a very good menu for me to choose from. Everyone's meal was good and atmosphere was great.

Millionaire Bacon

By jnlvtrvl |

American Thai fusion restaurant that's modern, chic with high ceilings and outdoor patio. Sister restaurant to Sweet Maple that created the millionaire bacon. Thick bacon is smoky, salty, sweet, and spicy. Great french toast and really fresh OJ. Friendly and great service. Will be back to try dinner.

Excellent

By SteveRDay |

I can't remember what we had to eat and drink other than it was excellent. I took a photo of the restaurant so I could remember to write a positive review. Good service and a reasonable price compared to other places we ate on our 3 week road trip. The desert was also superb, once again I can't remember what I had!

Excellent brunch

By raferria |

Very nice place, I ate there breakfast with good options of eggs, toasts, it is a very nice place for a good breakfast

Very good fusion type restaurant

By Sophie d |

We had lunch there and the menu selection is really great. The prices are reasonable and the food delicious.

Great food and variety

By Rick T |

Had lunch there today, and my wife wanted a salad and I wanted something more exciting. They had terrific Thai dish for me. Service was very efficient and friendly. Modern and clean environment.

Dinner

By Danielle B |

I loved everything about this restaurant, great ambiance , also great choice of laid back soft music playing in the background. We chose the calamari also the 24 hr beef soup. It was just what was required after a very cold day in sanfransisco, the soup was a hit the noodles cooked to perfection and also the broth was just wonderful Thankyou will def be back

Breakfast at a Thai restaurant

By Mark b |

This small shop has a surprising array of breakfast items from poached eggs dishes to fresh toast to scrambled options Attentive staff makes it a gr at spot. I enjoyed the millionaire bacon - well worth it. Expect a moderate wait on the weekends.

Late night swing

By James H |

This American / Asian place was most welcome on our first night after a long flight from London. A friend took us, who we were meeting in town, and he dived us straight into a bottle of Rancho Sisquoc Riesling which was the perfect accompaniment. Therefore, we had two. Food was also of high quality, my partner had the Pad Thai (which she devoured!) myself the 24 Hours Beef Noodle Soup, and our friend the One Percenter’s Burger, both of which also didn’t hang around on the place for long! All in all, certainly wound return, great food, great space inside and out, lovely spot!

Too sweet

By Andrea S |

Pad Thai was too sweet sugar added in sauce and expensive considering the quality of food, also service was noto friendly

Tasty dinner

By krzyk |

It was my first time in Thai restaurant and this was one of the best dinners are ever had. But watch out it is very spicy. The dinner is also nicely presented so it is a feast for the stomach as well as for the eyes.

Gorgeous evening meal

By Robyn T |

We all had thai meals! So good! I had beef ribs with rice and curry and veg. Meat was so tender and very nice! Red thai curry and really good too, quite spicy. Really nice atmosphere in the restaurant- modern and fancy!

An excellent night out

By r0yjane |

Blackwoods is obviously an in-place for the younger set, We felt a bit old an ot with-it. However the food is very good and the staff very helpful for those who are not up-to-speed on contemporary Thai cuisines. Not cheap so go there for a bit of a teat and carry a doggy-bag home for the next day!

Evening meal

By Ben |

Wow, just wow. Fabulous food, great service, we all loved it. Not much on the kids menu, but they still enjoyed it. Had a starter between us and a main each, more than enough. Really tasty, and lots of choice from the menu. Highly recommend it!

Excellent thai food

By thekyd |

I am from Asia so I should know a little something about good Thai and these guys nailed it. Some interesting fusion dishes and friendly attentive staff. Despite it being busy. Def go

Best ever

By Chris S |

Hands down the best service and breakfast I have had in years. It was a packed house and everything was seamless. All the staff worked together fantastic.

Popular place!

By KathrynVA |

My fiance and I were in San Fran for two nights/three days and this place was recommended to us. We actually went out to dinner in the Marina District another night, so decided to come back and try this place before we left and headed to the airport. Blackwood was recommended to us by a friend and it was a great choice. We came at a strange time, like 4pm on a Sunday, but it was crowded. We luckily got a table, without waiting. There were open tables outside, but I was a little chilly. The servers were nice and very fast. We had a few beers, I had the Pad Thai and I don't remember what my fiance got, but we both cleared out plates. A lot of people in the restaurant got the Stone Pot (for 2), so if I ever come back to San Fran, I'd definitely try that. I think around 430pm or 530pm they were changing over for dinner, so they had to turn some people away at the door, which was unfortunate.

Humble owners with Yum Good Eats

By Smiley |

This place has very good King Salmon with organic asparagus. The Thai Tea Latte was also very good. They did not have hot Thai Tea and so I tried their Thai Tea Latte. It is just like Thai iced tea except it was warm. Yum. Note: I especially like that they prefer cash payments. (They had on more than one occasion had their payment system go down and could not accept credit cards or other means of payment.)

Yum yum

By yabbie67 |

Very tasty selection of food, some nice wines available too, well worth a visit to this little gem if in town

A Great find

By LSherry1914 |

This was a unique stop for Sunday breakfast. Lovely interior, wonderful service and bacon, bacon, bacon! They have special bacon, cured differently than you are used to.

Best Thai food in years

By Mikael S |

We walked in on a Saturday day evening without a reservation, but were seated immediately. A great atmosphere and the place was full. Our waiter was attentive and helpful with the menu. My wife and kids (age 12 & 15) all went for classic noodle dishes and I had the delicately spicy Panang curry. The food was served within 15 min. and it was a festival of aromas. A great meal in a great location and the cost was absolutely fair.

Breakfast

By lynner164 |

Cool spot for breakfast. It was really good food, large portions, nice and fresh. I tried the Millionaire's Bacon, which was good, but not sure if worth the difference in price. Service was great, attentive and friendly. Did want to go back for dinner but time would not allow. Definitely worth a visit.

Amazing

By ananole |

Stumbled upon this place walking around from our hotel in search of dinner after a LONG and cold day of sightseeing. SOOO happy. I ate some delicious hot and spicy thai food. Great ambiance and service and all at a reasonable price for the quality. Only wish I had it back home

Interesting menu

By CoachRFM |

Nice atmosphere with a great wait staff. My wife enjoyed her seafood meal of prawns. I had their version of fried chicken that was very greasy by my standards

Delicious

By Kane Errol Choa |

Generous servings of delicious and flavorful Thai food Resto is described as fusion of Thai and American but the dishes don't lose the authentic Thai flavor Servers were efficient and courteous Wifi was a bit problematic

Raving!!!

By BanbridgesueB |

Fantastic food . Never had anything like it. My dish , which I asked for without meat , had so many delicious al dente vegetables in it, was sublime. I could have had a bowl of the sauce on its own like soup!!!!! Very healthy and good prices too.

Wonderful brunch treasure in the heart of the Marina

By gregory h |

We had the pleasure of joining our family here today for brunch! The service was excellent and the hostess Tik could not have been more accommodating and helpful to us. The place is really beautiful and the menu reasonably priced. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the millionaire bacon was truly out of this world. As someone who doesn't frequent this part of town often, I was very surprised with the class and chicness of the area. I can't say enough good things about the service. A must when visiting or if you are lucky enough to live here.

Great brunch spot

By h s |

The best pancakes that we have ever tasted - they have a subtle lemon taste - definitely recommend! We sat outside in a shaded spot with outdoor heaters. It was our favourite meal from our whole stay in San Francisco!

Super Yummy!

By Kendall |

A little expensive but the food was so delicious & worth it! Went there for brunch and got to sit outside by the fire pits and it was lovely. I got the crab eggs benedict and it was amazing!

A Welcome Thai

By Darrellcocup |

Never come across a Thai / American fusion before, or a Thai anything fusion come to that. It results in less choice of Thai food, but some really interesting stuff on the menu. Being a boring old person I stuck to traditional Pad Thai, it was really good, as was herself’s Red Thai Curry...If you’re in the area Blackwood is definitely worth trying.

Wow... best restaurant in sf

By localfoodiea |

Our group of 6 was totally blown away by all the plates we had at this American Thai fusion restaurant. Wonderful starters especially the tuna, millionaire bacon wrapped around scallops, blackened pork.. all were top notch. Mains were amazing especially Blackhawk pork, thai red curry and many more. Great value, great service but most of all ... totally excellent food.

American Thai Fusion

By LindaRoo |

They call their food American Thai Fusion. How I translate this is: you can get American food, you can get Thai food, and the Thai food is for an American palate. We came here at 11, so we had a mixture of orders. One person ordered a burger, one ordered Samosas, another ordered a curry dish, one ordered Pad Thai, and another ordered tom yum soup and pad kee mow. Everyone enjoyed what they got. Nothing was outstanding and nothing was bad. Good place if you have a bunch of people with varying likes and dislikes with some not wanting Thai food.

excellent surprise

By wagamaama |

we went to this restaurant without any references, just took a chance as were hungry and were in that area. wanted to have thai cuisine. but what turned out was fantastic, we ordered all vegetarian dishes and all were excellent, with large portions and deligtfully tasty. and not very much burden on the pocket too. with excellent service

Blackwood is amazing food

By justinhoagster |

Four of us went for a late dinner. The angus burger was outstanding! The others had curry meals. The atmosphere is cool and the service was great, even later at night.

Stunning Restaurant- Food to die for

By CORSAIR700 |

This is one hell of a fascinating place- menu had dishes that when they arrived you couldn't take your eye of them- steaming rice dishes in a stone pot- that the water then mixes up at the table- everything is unusual, delicious and stylishly presented! A very very popular haunt of locals!

Great breakfast

By Cas112233 |

Visited here by accident but the menu looked nice and different. My wife and I wanted something different. Linz had the pancakes with maple syrup and bacon and I had a thai shakshuka. Neither of us were disappointed for sure. Food and service were both top draw and we thoroughly enjoyed out food. I highly reccomend a visit.

Disappointing Visit

By mshapiro99 |

Maybe they are a new restaurant. Maybe they are just opening up after a long break due to COVID. Maybe they have enough business that they don't need to care what customers think. We walked past the mostly-empty restaurant and decided to stop in. Immediately accosted by a server to ask if we had a reservation, which we didn't, we were led to a small 2-top and then essentially ignored for 10 minutes, despite there being few other guests in the restaurant. Obnoxious high-decibel 6-some across the aisle put on quite a show, laughing and dropping utensils, generally making a racket, without intervention by restaurant staff. Eventually placed our order, and my Pad Thai ($17.50!) arrived within 5 minutes and my wife's 2 fried eggs and fried potatoes ($15.50!) arrived about 15 minutes later. Not sure why it would take an empty restaurant 15 minutes to fry 2 eggs, or why they couldn't serve 2 mains at the same time -- there were no excuses because there were few other guests. Couldn't get out of there fast enough. Not recommended.

You'll never have a better mix of great thai food and wine selection

By Sharon H |

This is no ordinary Thai food. It is made the way it should be, not Americanized. You might look on the outside of the restaurant and not be impressed because of the picnic tables but it is definitely worth the food. The hot pots are some of the best you will every have and the curry flavor is amazing. How many Thai restaurants have you visited and all they have is the house red or white. Not Blackwood. They have a great selection of wines to choose from. I visit here every time I am in San Francisco.

Great gluten free dinner

By Pembrae |

Visited with family while we were staying in Presidio area. Had separate gluten free menu and lots of options. Thoroughly enjoyed the meal and good service.

My favouite restaurant in San Francisco

By SBams14 |

Also in my favourite part of the city, although finding street parking in the evenings can be bothersome. Fantastic thai food, beautifully served. Staff are very attentive, prices are reasonable

Breakfast!

By jenandfriends2016 |

The three of us each ordered something different and everything was delicious. Good portions and great service. The food was delivered quickly. I had the grilled cheese with bacon. It’s really a breakfast sandwich with egg, tomato and avocado. Yum. The granola parfait looked beautiful with big berries. And the BW scramble was also a hit. Great breakfast spot. The prices at the restaurant were a bit higher than the menu on TA.

Fusion for the soul

By advis0r_007 |

Had a great experience here with great food! We had been walking all over town all day and finally stopped to get some food here and we really wanted to eat here b/c we got a great recommendation from a friend anddddd there were no tables! Not impossible at a restaurant, but in this restaurant there's really no great place to wait and our timing couldn't have been worse. The waiters were running past us w/ hot dishes and other people trying to sit were coming in and out, but we stuck it out. The hostess was so sweet and gave us some free champagne for our whole party. We finally sat, and it was well worth the wait. We enjoyed some great Unfiltered Sake, the steaming shrimp dish, cummin flat noodles, and the samosas as an app. Plus they gave us a free appetizer in addition, I can't remember exactly what it was, but it was small dried fruit bits. The food was excellent and the waiters, even thought they were completely busy, were perfectly attentive w/o being overbearing. I would definitely recommend this place to travels with the caveat that seating is tricky. Happy travels!

Good Happy Hour, But . . .

By Foster P |

We went for happy hour and later ordered entrees. The happy hour prawn - Mieng Kum Kung” - and cucumber salad were very good and well presented. I was I wasn’t impressed with the Thai Street food with pork – the pork was dry and didn’t have a lot of favor. Maybe I should have ordered a curry dish -- which they’re particularly known for. Good service.

Very good and tasty food. We hope to come back and recommend it to anybody.

By Ronald V |

This was our first time in this restaurant. And it was really good. The service to start with was quick and friendly. The food was very good. Yes very good and we hoped we had this kind of restaurant at home. The prices are good and with happy hour the wine and beer (and some appetizers) are cheaper. We can really recommend this place to anybody. It’s not big so but you can make a reservation in front.

Nice restaurant in fancy place

By JUNGHWA C |

It is located in Marica district and there are mant fancy shops. Definitely the location is very nice and service also good. We ordred french toast & hot pot. Both are delicious and decoration of dish

Great asian-fusion

Excellent food! Asian-Fusion with great range of apps and main dishes. Place does take reservations which is highly recommended for Friday/Saturday dinner. Location is great as well, right in the heart of the marina so close to all the other things in the area.

Best Brunch in San Francisco!

By Jenny Graham |

I wish I'd visited this place sooner! We took a friend from out of town who was visiting. Now it's my favourite place for brunch. The place has a really nice vibe, staff are so polite and helpful. We had bottomless mimosas, 90 minute limit, but they kept our drinks topped up the entire time and we got 2 refills after the check came. Breakfast was amazing, I had Brussel Sprouts Benedict, highly recommend. Hollandaise sauce was perfect and had a little kick to it. The menu was eclectic and interesting, massive portion sizes too. We didn't book but arrived early (9:30am) and we were able to get a seat straight away. Filled out quickly though so will make a reservation in the future. Take your friends!

Good food, good location

By Bonibenoni |

We knew the street, but after talking to someone in the street who mentioned the restaurant ( does not look like a thai ) We came back the same night with friends, food was great. Only thing we as dutch are used to sit at a table for a while, we wait until all the people are done with eating and then do some drinks some talking, in the US they take your plate if the others are still eating, and if your done you get the check even if you dont ask. This place gives you the feeling to sit and talk but not with the check on the table. So maybe hold of with giving the check. Food is great came back a day later just the 2 of us.

Blackwood features a number of Thai-inspried dishes that are sure to please. The hot bowls looked and smelled wonderful, but we went with the more traditional pad thai and chicken rice bowl. Both were plentiful and flavorful. Beer list features above-average selections, and basil margarita was so good we had two of them. Service was helpful and professional. Atmosphere is subdued modern elegance.

going back as soon as possible !

Welcome was terrible.

Welcome was terrible. Lots of spots open to sit. But waitress made us wait for a specific area of her choice and ignored us.

Great service, food needs attention

By Starchgirl |

A beautiful cozy space, not typical of a Thai restaurant, with a clever outdoor fireplace on the front porch. Panang Curry was a bit disappointing, with tough, greasy chicken and no yams in sight. Tuna cups were delicious. Service was outstanding, as we were in a hurry and the server managed to deliver our food in a flash.

Great evening

The SB was over and we needed food, good food. We got that and then some. The Marina Stack was really excellent-fresh ingredients, great flavors. We then had Pad Kee Mau and Eggplant with pork and basil. Both were excellent and made with very fresh ingredients. We will return soon.

Sat brunch

The menu is very unusual but still appealing and the service is quick. The ambiance is beautiful Asian and airy: very inviting. They serve the best freshly squeezed OJ. They are known for their million dollar maple syrup bacon but everything else on the menus is delicious too

Amazing food!!

By Diana D |

My best friend and me visited SF last march with any clue about good places to eat; while walking on chesnut st we stopped at Blackwood. And what a surprised we fell in love of the food so much that we ended up eating there for the next three days. Service was great and prices wasn't expensive. I strongly recommend this restaurant especially the pho soups!

Upscale and Thai! Great combination!

By whereintheworld2 |

Very upscale restaurant featuring Thai food, my favorite. Not a very big place so I suggest reservations. Nice wine list from all over the world, but we opted for a California Pinot Noir since we were in California! I would have liked a little spicier Pad See Ew only because I love the spicyThai flavors. Do try it if you're in the Marina District.

Amazing breakfadt

This was a spectacular breakfast spot. Everything we are was exceptional. The crispy French toast was the highlight no doubt but chicken mango sausage might be second. Cool spot, great food.

Thai-American fusion.

By 5heartfamily |

We eat Thai food regularly, but found several items on this menu that were different than our regular spot. We shared the Marina Strip Steak with Cucumber and Mushroom Roll appetizers, followed by Tom Kha Kai Soup, Papaya Salad with Crispy Tofu, Spicy Braised Rib (too hot for some), and Eggplant with Chicken. It was all tasty and there were left-overs, but the check was fairly high as Thai meals go. Our table neighbors had some stir-fry, hot skillet dishes that we will return to try. Note: on a windy day the tables near the door were chilly, but they offered to put up a folding screen to help with the cold.

Too Expensive for Thai even at the Marina

By sansa31 |

This Thai fusion restaurant puts out beautifully presented dishes. However the SPRING ROLLS are pretty but taste like PAPER so don’t bother with this appetizer especially considering the price. They are doing the best they can with covid I guess… there is no one on the host desk so it took a long time to be acknowledged… we were desperate because we had time limitations. So bottom line…. Pretty good food . Large portions. I recommend getting two dishes for 4 people. We were four people. 4 beer that were the restaurant pic.. and the spring roll appetizer …250 dollars with tip!!! WHAT?????? ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUs pricing for Thai food. If you go… just be aware . If you are ok with outrageously priced food… then go for it.

Always great food

We eat at Blackwood every couple of months, celebrating office birthdays and other celebrations, and it is always delicious.

Bit mixed, but worth a try

Loved the curries, soups were okay. Very big portion sizes and the prices were a little high. The location is great though.

100% recommend

So so so good. Slow cooked beef noodles and the Braised beef ribs were unbelievable. This is located in a nice area with bars around to go after.

Excellent Thai Fusion food in the Marina

This is one of my neighborhood favorites. As a huge fan of Asian food, specifically Thai, Blackwood offers very fulling plates and a nice variety. I'm partial to the stone pots which is a nice helping. I recently brought a friend who is very particular when it comes to his curry and he was quite pleased with the green curry and chicken. The staff is fine, mostly Thai. They seem to have lost some of their friendliness since they first opened, and more focused on getting the food to you with little personality. I enjoy sitting outside at the community tables near the fireplace. The TV is an added touch (or distraction depending on your opinion of sports TV during a meal).

Wait is crazy long and not estimated right

By pq1 |

Came here at 1130am on a Saturday with 4 people. Checked in and was told wait was half an hour. An hour later was told it would be another 45 minutes.... just plain ridiculous. Needless to say we went elsewhere. Terrible at managing their wait list. No lunch is worth a 2 hour wait in San Francisco especially when there are literally michelin rated restaurants a hop skip away.

Packed with flavour

Family of six and we all agreed it was the best asian food we have tasted. The Millionaires Way has to be tried as a starter. We had 6 different main courses and all were very very good. Go for Happy Hour to take advantage of cheap starters and drinks.

Tasty and friendly

I had the Panang Curry. Tasty and healthy. They accommodated a large party. If you can make reservations, it is helpful because there are limited seats.

Amazing green curry

We were in SF for pleasure and had just walked 10 miles to Golden Gate Bridge back towards the city... I had a delicious green curry with chicken and my husband had a great pad thai. Thinking about it makes my stomach rumble!!

Our first San Francisco dining experience

By Cath D |

This was our first dining experience in San Francisco, and quickly became a favourite. We enjoyed our lunch there so much that we had to ensure we squeezed in another visit during our limited holiday time. The only complaint I have is that the menu has too many amazing dishes on it and it makes it difficult to choose. I can totally understand why the locals love this place.

Best bfast in SanFran

One of the most unbelievably delicious menus. I visit regularly when I’m in SanFran for breakfast or lunch. Awesome.

A great find!

By BDD_11_12 |

Came upon this restaurant walking on Chestnut street. Noticed the wonderful looking food that patio guests were enjoying. We had a dish with chicken, avocado, and tri colored bell peppers. Generous portion, fresh ingredients, nicely resented, and great flavors! We would go back.

A Lovely Dinner for Five

By jaseaton |

We were a group of five old friends gathering for a holiday dinner. The pan-Asian menu includes a variety of Thai, Vietnamese and Chinese options. All were delightful. Our waitress was helpful in avoiding dishes with ingredients some of us were allergic to. The drinks were strong and tasty. The vibe was young and friendly, and the noise level was JUST on the bearable side. They have the largest indoor video screen I've ever seen, bit with no audio.

Dinner

Mmmmm food was great , we arrived at 5.30 informed the staff that we would like to have the happy hour menu !the menu arrived 10 mins later so long story short we were told we couldn’t order another beverage at happy hour rate as it was after 6pm, I have been to this restaurant twice before , this time I was disappointed in the service as it wasn’t consistent

Great Breakfast Spot in the Marina

By FoodyCa |

Found a great little breakfast spot in the Marina District named Blackwood (they are open from 9am to 10pm). Amazing flavors in our eggs Benedict and a Mango Chicken Sausage Melt. They also have a small outside patio on Chestnut that has a fire place with bench seating. We were there on Tuesday morning when they opened but I understand that on the weekends there is a line. The lunch and dinner menus were fairly broad and looked amazing. We will be back.

Mix and Match

By Audrey C |

Marina District has many restaurants to pick but do not miss out on popular Blackwood. The crowds are big and the wait long, but once seated, you will find an extensive Thai American fusion menu! My friend opted for pancakes with maple syrup while tried the One Percenter Burger which comes with the Blackwood signature Millionaire’s Bacon and crispy potato wedges. All were feast for the eyes and a delight for the taste buds. I highly recommend Blackwood for its breakfast, brunch and lunch selections!
