Don't be put off by the store front location. This restaurant serves the best enchiladas in town. It offers other items too, but the only real reason to come here are the enchiladas. The restaurant is always crowded, and you may have to wait for a table to open up, but it is worth the wait. Staff are always in a great mood. While this restaurant is not especially convenient to downtown, a ten minute car or cab ride is worth the trip!

We had Saturday breakfast here before sightseeing in San Antonio. The food was great, the prices great and the service was great. It isn't fancy, just solid local fare and a quaint cafe-esque atmosphere.

Several friends of my called up and said lets have lunch? I said let do something very San Antonio... so we went to Blanco Cafe, this a San Antonio original the Food taste like San Antonio. Tortillas nice and hot and the food is so go good like the people in the kitchen cooking like in a Mexican home... Everyone is a part of it and you feel like you are at home. What a place. Love this food and I would recommend this place to everyone for a taste of San Antonio.

This is where the locals eat It was fabulous I had Tacos and my wife had the enchiladas Some of the best enchiladas she ever had House made tortillas hard to find more affordable, and authentic Mexican food in San Antonio

As a native Texan, I eat Mexican food on a regular basis - at least once a week. The enchiladas were by far the best I have ever had - anywhere. The service was very quick and friendly, and although there was a wait, everyone that came in the door was seated within five minutes. I would definitely come back here and recommend it as well. My husband even thinks we should visit twice today!

This looked like a great Mexican restaurant. Full parking lot, a lot of claims for awards, clean, well kept. But it pretty much ended there. Food was average at best. Fajita meat was not grilled, and didnt have alot of flavor. The cheese enchiladas had a chili type sauce with real cheddar cheese on top, but the cheese enchiladas were fill with what appeared to be canned chese, like you get when you buy nachos at the football game....not alot of flavor, and not very hot! Rice and beans....well, how can you mess that up. Prices were reasonable and first peek. However, $1.99 for chips and salsa! What mexican restaurant charges for chips and salsa? Then I asked for a carry out for the glass of tea that I had....just what was left, not another full glass....50 cents for the cup. Service was good and staff was friendly, but appolgized everytime I asked for something they were charging extra for. I would not go back...matter of fact, in my opinion, and I have been to many REAL Mexican restaurants, the food is hotter, better quality, and more reasonable at Casa Ole...so that should give you an idea of this restaurant.

The Blanco is the ultimate hole-in-the-wall restaurant that serves classic dishes to locals and tourists who know to go there. The decor is dated, but it works with the theme of the place—a no frills, but fabulous meal. We went for breakfast twice. They have build your own breakfast tacos with heavenly homemade flour tortillas. The servers were very helpful and attentive. The coffee is especially good, as are the pancakes. I highly recommend for local fare.

My wife and I ate here for the first time last week after hearing how good their enchiladas were and we were not disappointed. Of course there are tons of Mexican restaurants in San Antonio but it seems like lately the enchiladas we have tried in various locations don’t capture the traditional flavors that I grew up with. That was not an issue at Blanco Cafe. My wife had the cheese enchilada plate and I had the enchilada trio plate which included a beef, cheese, and chicken enchilada. The flavors were authentic and delicious. Don’t be taken aback by the aged appearance of their building because their food is delicious and I would recommend it for a traditional taste of San Antonio.

Ate cheese enchiladas with fried eggs on top....truly decadent and the cure for all ills! Blanco cafe no matter the original one on St. Mary's downtown or not fantastic!

Since I am vegetarian I ordered guacamole salad and bean and cheese taco. Than I thought about the beans not being vegetarian and the waitress confirmed that they had lard in them. I requested that she take them back, and she did but insisted on charging the $2.99 anyway. The guacamole salad was totally tasteless.

Are u kidin' me! This restaurant is old school and awesome! The wait staff are bilingual eng/span and they run it like a boss. Fast, efficient and friendly. I had the Tuesday special of chicken fried steak. It was awesome! But then as I looked at other patrons I saw they were eating carne guisada, enchiladas, tacos, etc and I second guessed myself. OW! Next visit for sure!!!

Okay so the food is good, good not great. But the service is slow n rude. Hey it's San Antonio not New York. We texans need good food n good service. And do not order take out because they charge you per item .30 so 2 ench, 1 taco, rice, beans = 5 items. Go to Taco Bell food tastes the same better price better service.

On our way back from Port Aransas, we dropped in for a late lunch on Sunday and the dining room was packed, but most were on the last half of their meals. Parking was a little tight in front, but we managed to get a spot as someone had just pulled out. I can say I noticed how dusty or dirty the front glass doors were. Once inside the restaurant, I noticed how drab the place looked. I think it's the dark floors, the brown formica tables and the dull color of the walls. I can't really recall any decorations. What you do notice is that everyone has plates of tex/mex food in front of them. We had to order chips and salsa as they are not complimentary as is customary in most Mexican restaurants. The chips were thick, hard, and irregular in shape and the salsa was more of a ranchera style salsa. I only ate a few of them because honestly they hurt my teeth and I prefer lighter crispier chips with the red sauce. My husband ordered quacamole as an appetizer and it was rather simple or bland. For lunch, we ordered the plates with two cheese enchiladas and I got a bean chalupa, rice and beans and his came with a crispy chicken taco, which he really enjoyed. His taco had big chunks of chicken. Our meal came out rather quickly after we ordered. My enchiladas were rolled very tightly like a flauta and the seam faced up rather than down. The American cheese on top was burnt. Since the cheese wasn't cheddar, the burnt affect didn't make it taste any better. I felt like the cook was rushed. Normally I like the corn tortillas a little looser so the cheese inside can spread out inside the enchiladas. The chile con carne on top was good, though, as were the rice and beans. The flour tortillas were very good. After looking around, I can tell the real favorites were the breakfast plates. If I do return, perhaps I'll get breakfast. Our waitress was friendly, courteous and attentive. The prices were very reasonable. I think they close early on Sundays. I know this place has been around a long time, but I was underwhelmed by how run down and dingy this place looked. It looks like it would be interesting from the outside, but once inside, I was turned off. Perhaps I couldn't get passed how dirty the front doors were. First impressions really do matter. Also, not to be so negative, but I noticed that once customers at their food, no one came around to remove their plates, so eventually people piled their plates on the tables. The website for the Original Blanco Cafe doesn't list this location or mention anything about this location.

This is the 2nd time in a period of 2 months that my son and I have met there for lunch. The food is good, but I can't say it's extrordinary good. The place itself is small, crowded seating, and mostly behind the building parking which in that neighborhood I am not crazy about parking in the back. The service we got both times was good. The cashier was also very friendly. Not a bad little place but not my best preference.

We had heard about this place from our uber driver. He raved about the original location and that we must try it before leaving San Antonio. The people are nice, but the restaurant has more of a fire hall/ cafeteria vibe. The food is OK, but not a must go. The prices are unbeatable (very inexpensive) though.

When we visit San Antonio, we always go to Blanco Cafe. In the past, always for breakfast tacos -- they're best ever! Love the place -- busy and full of energy. Love the staff -- friendly and very service oriented. Love the patrons -- authentic, friendly San Antonio-ians. Always a rewarding experience. This trip, for a change, we decided to go for lunch. Tried the enchiladas. Very good, but not as good as the breakfast tacos.

Our favorite place to eat when in San Antonio. We are from Colorado and the whole family loves this place. Even our friend who is an extremely picky eater enjoyed it! Fast friendly service. Food is fresh and hot, with homemade tortillas. They have two locations, go in and see them you will not be disappointed.

This old place gets no notice from tourists because it is off the track as far as visitors. Neighborhood and more distant locals know that the food is good, reasonable in price, and the service is friendly. Try the three enchilada plate, with a few chopped onions (order them, they don't come as part of the plate) and beans & rice. Nothing fancy; just wonderful food.

Good food; however the staff was not friendly AT ALL. I asked for a table for my party & the ladies working talked back and forth in Spanish (I don’t speak Spanish) and they just left me standing there. Did not provide an explanation or say something like “ok we are getting your table together.” Literally, nothing. It wasn’t until the rest of my party showed up that I realized they would only seat us once everyone was there. I’m fine with that, but it should have been explained. Wait staff was very unprofessional.

Normal, I don't have issues with my food, but today was not one of them. I had the carne guisada plate, and a chrizo and papas (potato) taco on the side. I'm not sure what happened, but the carne guisada tasted like chunks of beef that were just boiled for stew. Normally, the gravy is a nice savory creamy delight, that you could just eat alone with a flour tortilla. Not today, it was almost translucent, and not much flavor. The one thing that I order on a regular basis is the chorizo, and papas taco. It never fails to taste good. That was a real let down as well. I don't know if they started to use a different chorizo, but the flavor was not the same. The other thing I noticed was the amount of grease that was coming from it! I've been ordering it for years now, and I've never seen that happen before. Well, maybe I'll have better luck next time I go there. I just hope that this was a one time thing, and not the norm.

Everyone has eaten enchiladas but these are far superior to any others you thought were good. The cheese enchiladas at Blanco cafe are the best in San Antonio and probably the best in the country. The enchiladas sauce that they put on them are rich dark almost like a fine sauce. If your in San Antonio Uber over and try them you won’t be disappointed I have lived here for 60 years and have tried every enchiladas house and you tell me once you tried them.

Very Disappointing! We have been going since the 70's when they opened. We typically get the Enchilada Deluxe Dinner which includes a Taco, Chalupa, tiny bit of Guacamole along with the three Cheese Enchiladas rice and beans. They tend to rush the food...without properly heating it.😡 I'm never in a rush and want my food served at the proper temperature. Chips are Not Complementary!😕 Service is fair... Restaurant is a dive and only has 3 inadequate window AC's. Since their relative owns the building they don't want to install Central AC, because if they move they can't take the AC. Crazy Since they haven't moved in 40 years they aren't likely to move...

I went with my dad and Gina etc for breakfast, I liked the breakfast tacos I got but they were big, good, but big.. I took them with me, I like to eat bean and cheese( if cheese is cheddar ) which most of time bean and cheese does use cheddar cheese, and I like to get potatoo and egg tacos and sometimes I like to get migas tacos..

I grew up in this area back in the 60's and any time we can we try and go back to the original Blanco Calf. Man it brings back memories from the past. They stat yelling your order to the kitchen after your order. Great food and the Founder, God rest his sole, really wanted to create a family place to eat. More reasonable than the other places as well. Great place to eat.

If you are looking for tex mex style food, this place is hard to beat. The service was quick and the food was very good. Everything I saw come out looked great as well. The place is clean and convenient.

I have been a loyal patron since I was in the womb. Growing up on this food, I have seen this place transform from questionable hole in the wall to an updated restaurante. Blanco's has always had good business and for good reason. They have traditional Mexican cuisine made the same way as my grandmother. The portions are healthy, the tortillas are fresh (and heavenly), and the enchiladas are killer. I do want to mention that they've changed their enchilada sauce a bit over the years (it's not as meaty, so they flavor isn't as rich), but they're still my favorite. Additionally, I have to say that not all Blanco Cafes are created equally. None of the other Blanco's in town measure up to this place, but the reason could be that this is the ORIGINAL Blanco Cafe. Try it out for yourself. DO IT!

There's not much parking here so get at this diner early on Saturday. We came at around 1:30. No waiting area, so you hang out around inside the door, or outside. The decor is simple and the food is a large menu of breakfast tacos, enchiladas and other Mexican dishes. I had a plate with cheese enchiladas and a taco. Taco was good, but greasy. Enchiladas had a beef sauce and were good. Beans and rice okay. They serve the BEST homemade tortillas I've ever had anywhere–crispy Naan-like texture outside and soft inside. Warning: their chips and salsa are weird. The chips are thick and 'salsa' is a warm chili soup. Not worth paying for. NOTE: THEY don't serve any alcohol here. Low prices and fast, friendly service. So, will I go back? I prefer my food separated from soupy sauce, and I like tomato salsa and crispy chips, so probably not.

Our last day in San Antonio before heading back to the cold north. Blanco Cafe was recommended to us from another restaurant worker not too far from where we stayed. She was a local and gave us a couple local favorites, away from the tourist places. Our experience was great food, friendly staff and neighborhood place to eat. We arrived about 12:30 on a Monday, and had to wait a few minutes for an open table. This is a popular place. Prices, selection and portions are very reasonable. Location is in a small local neighborhood, but easy to get to.

I have been living out of the country for a number of years. Last night I traveled to San Antonio and my first choice was to eat TexMex at Blanco Cafe. The food quality and service were at the best levels and I thoroughly enjoyed and recommend the Cheese Enchilada Plate.

Some other recent reviewers have made negative remarks about the service - I just returned from dinner at Blanco Cafe, and I experienced such exemplary service that I felt compelled to leave a review. The enchiladas were good, with some salsa verde to add heat and flavor, but the fresh tortillas were the best part. They are among the best I've ever tasted. Really delicious. I'm hoping to visit again during my brief stay in San Antonio to try out some breakfast tacos.

I have been going here for 25 years, it hasn't changed one bit. Deluxe Mexican dinner comes with 3 enchiladas, rice beans, a taco and chalupa plus some guacamole. Make sure you tell your server you want the enchiladas bubbling hot, you wont regret it.

Was in the area and always try to stop if they are not Packed w/ folks and since it was early we were able to get a seat. This is the best old style tex-mex food in S.A. The Deluxe Mex dinner is what to order.. 2 plates of food for 8.95... can't beat it.. Umm

OKAY, i'm sad to say this location has lost a longtime customer! I have always recommended this resturant to all family & friends. i WAS a huge fan of their "famous" enchiladas, well after today i just had to post my story. i went to lunch with a cowoker to satiisy her craving, and well i was served a kick in the face!!!! i ordered the enchilada plate with a crispy taco on the side. i get the crunchy taco first-mind you, it was placed in front of me sloppy! the let & tom was on the plate not in the taco-no biggie, i asumed it just fell out as it was delieved, but when i took a bite surprisingly this was a taco with raw hamburger meat =( i placed to the side as a loss (still hungry) so i continued to eat my meal, as i reached in the refired breans with my tortilla i see a lovely, short, black, curly hair. :-o i kept my cool as if i was the one worng, i evan addressed the situation with our server very calmly and quietly, but i will never eat here ever again!!!!!!!! eating raw meat then almost eating a hair from who know who's body/body part. the server quiclky removed the plates and said no charge per the owner. : (

One of the very few places we go to for breakfast! They are a family owned place with down home cooking and very friendly service! We've been going here for quite a few years and the way we're greeted we must be family Food's very good and large portions with very reasonable prices! A must on a Sunday morning!

It was very good, but the interior is gutted and the windows plastered with building permits. I think there are other locations. If not, there are good Mexican food restaurants on just about every street corner in San Antonio.

The Blanco Cafe on Blanco Road is a favorite with the locals for good reason. The food is consistently wonderful, flavorful and a real taste of San Antonio. The place is not much on ambience, but each day there is a special that will titillate your taste buds. The Thursday special chile relleno is especially good. Go with an appetite and on weekends, expect a wait. The service is quick and the locals are friendly.

This was a local hangout for my family many years. We loved the enchiladas, tacos and some of the best tortillas in SA. Food is excellent but unfortunately the decor had suffered. Looked as if the owners were not doing proper upkeep (needed painting, getting dirty and the parking lot was in disrepair - full of potholes). Recently though, they've repaired the lot, painted and remodeled the restrooms. Food is still great even with the higher prices.

This is a must if you are looking for a true authentic Mexican restaurant. You will be very happy. We went for breakfast and this place will be on my must visit every time I’m in San Antonio. Got greeted as soon as we walked in. Got drinks. Heads up soda comes out in a can. This isn’t a fancy restaurant. We ordered waitress repeated our order back without writing it down. One person ordered pancakes 🥞 it was the only thing on the menu he recognized. Our food came out and I thought I had gone to food heaven. BTW guy who ordered pancakes asked for one of the tacos I ordered. Food looked amazing and was so good. Between the four of us we had five different kinds of tacos and they were all great. You will not be disappointed with any of the tacos I promise

This restaurant may be a hole-in-the-wall type place, but the atmosphere created by the locals here is fantastic. The owner is amiable, the staff is laid back but attentive, and the whole experience is great. Not to mention the food. Although it's TEX-MEX all the way, The Blanco does it better than anyone else in S. Texas. --don't forget their tortillas are tenfold better than anywhere else in town-- Must stop in on visit to San Antonio.

If you live Tex-Mex food, then the Blanco Cafe, should be on your list in San Antonio. I found the service excellent, and the Chile Relleno (stuffed pepper) as good as I have ever had. This type of food is found throughout San Antonio, and the Chile Relleno I had was juicy, appetizing and enjoyable to eat!Keep in mind that many other specialties are on the menu and worth trying!!

Great little spot for great homemade tortillas and Mexican food San Antonio style. Food is consistently good and the wait is never too long, even when there is a line. Everything on the menu is great. I’ve never had a bad meal there. This is a spot we take out of friends. They get a kick out of watching the orders being yelled out to the cooks. Just make sure you give your name and party number. This is a very casual but busy no frills restaurant. They have several waitresses and tables are close together diner style. You get the feeling that they are one big family working together to get the job done well.

I eat lunch here at least once a week. Your basic hole in the wall family owned eatery, I can't get enough of the food. My favorite plate is the enchiladas with fajitas. The homemade flour tortillas are sinful. I love em! The nachos, chalupas, tacos and pretty much the entire menu is good.

if you are looking for a good mexican breakfast, this is the place to go. their coffee is always fresh and good and their plates and tacos are great!

Like many people, I heard repeatedly what a gem Blanco Cafe’s original location was. So when the opportunity arose, I drove a little out of my way and gave it a try. The food was good but not exceptional. The restaurant was bustling and the service was atrocious. You have plenty of better choices to go for good Mexican food in San Antonio. There is no reason to waste your time by going to Blanco Cafe’s original location at 1720 Blanco Road. It is abundantly apparent that this location has abandoned any effort to live up to the great reputation it earned in the past. To put things in perspective, I have also tried Blanco Cafe’s only other location (on St. Mary’s Street). THAT location is worth going to. The food is as good (or better) than it is at the original location and the service is far better.

Enchiladas to die for. But everything on the menu is authentic and delicious. Not eating there is one of worst parts of not being able to travel to States this year.

I used to live just down the street from the Blanco Cafe, and have been a customer there for pretty close to 40 years. Every time I eat there I ordered the same meal, the “soft Mexican Dinner”. Today I ordered it and got served a soft beef taco plate with a side order of attitude from the waitress, who told me there was no such thing as a soft mexican dinner, and besides, I’d ordered soft beef tacos. I bet that waitress wasn’t even born when I ordered my first soft mexican dinner at the Blanco. I ordered and ate one about 2 weeks ago. She didn’t apologize for the mistake. She didn’t get a tip, either, and I generally tip 20% or better. Oh well. Another snotty, entitled, covid-era employee. It’s a shame, as I always enjoyed eating there.

Every time my wife and I are in San Antonio we go to the Blanco Cafe for breakfast tacos. We were in San Antonio recently, made our usual trek to the Blanco Cafe, and reconfirmed (for us anyway) they are still the best we've had.

12:21pm May 07th.I ordered a enchilada chicken and rice that I didn’t eat it was to soggy and had no flavor. I ate the rice and the shredded lettuce with tomato around it, before I could even ask for anything else the rude waitress walks by my table and lays the bull on the table when I asked for something else I was told I would still have to pay for the food i didn’t touch that they seen on my plate. This place is disgusting 🤮 I don’t recommend the customer service sucks. Very rude n disrespectful. I got charged 14.05 for food I didn’t eat instead of just charging me for rice and salad I ate around it. 22.70 is what I got charged and I paying for food I didn’t eat. All I ate was those chips and dip.

Was craving some guisada and potatoes for breakfast and local suggested blanco cafe....we stopped in I ordered the guisada and potatoes and flour tortillas.....the guisada was fantastic...the best part was the service we experienced was off the charts...will definitely be back when we visit San Antonio again..

Good place for breakfast. Not as good as El Milagrito but still good. Located in the Midtown section of San Antonio, by Blanco and Oblate, this little eatery is tucked away in back of a strip mall so it's kind of hard to find. I had the Huevos Rancheros and they were nice and spicey. My wife had two tacos (which you can order a la carte). Both were good. Tortillas are home made (a plus in my book). Servers were very nice. It's a litte dirty on the inside but the food is good.

This is an established restaurant in San Antonio--a local's favorite. The chicken soup was loaded with vegetables and chicken on the bone--delicious!

Wife wanted crispy tacos and enchiladas so we went to our favorite hole in wall restaurant. Blanco Cafe, the original on Blanco road. We we not disappointed. Food was great .we had the enchiladas dinner and it was still as amazing as ever.

I have been eating here since 1975 and I still go by once every 2 months. I wish they would bring back the Mexican cokes

Mexican food that is not greasy! I liked everything i ate. Low prices; old neighborhood; no atmosphere; worth it for good food.

Fresh authentic great tasting. love going there. keep forgetting to take my husband when we're in town. that's unfortunate for him. if your looking for great food stop by there.

We went to blanco cafe off of a recommendation from a local...the food was amazing and our server ines was very knowledgeable of the menu and attentive. We would highly recommend this spot for a great meal with very reasonable prices!

This is a small Mexican café that caters to local diners. If you are tired of the typical Mexican restaurant and want to try a café that is more traditional then you might want to give this place a try. This place is not fancy, most of the tables and chairs do not match, and most of the customers are common working-class people. For visitors to San Antonio, this might seem like a difficult place to get too, but its not that far from downtown San Antonio. The place is normally packed with people of Mexican heritage, if you are a "Gringo" then you may be the only gringo in the place. But don't worry, I'm a gringo and I was treated very well; and I will be going back when I visit San Antonio. Its a nice place to have breakfast. My only compliant is that the café does not serve alcohol of any form, and I like to have a beer with my evening meal.

Saturday afternoon visit with no wait time, quick service and good food. Large menu selection, reasonable prices with breakfast and lunch specials. Parking is limited. We had brisket & barbecoa plate and cheese enchiladas. Enjoy!!

My wife and I had dinner here. She ordered the nachos and really enjoyed them. I ordered the enchilada plate and it was very good. I do love their breakfast, especially their Huevos Rancheros. Server was very nice and efficient. This place is a San Antonio staple and it has a "dive look"; nothing fancy at all. This adds to the historic value of the area. Place never really looks super clean but it is clean. Restrooms are okay. Prices are reasonable but what's up with the price of iced tea???? On another note, I will always have fond memories of Blanco Cafe because when I was dating my wife over 20 years ago, I spoke to the manager and she allowed me to play my guitar and sing a song I wrote for for my wife; she even turned off the jukebox...it was amazing and I am forever grateful. We may not eat here every week, but we will continue to be loyal patrons of Blanco Cafe because of the generosity they showed me so long ago, and of course for their very good food!!!!!

I have not tried enchiladas in every restaurant in SA, but these enchiladas have a great tasting chili sauce with melted cheese on top, enchilada sauce and great mixture of cheeses. Some places serve cheddar cheese and that is "no bueno". Crispi tacos are fantastic!! They have that old school Mex Cafe flavor. Chalupas are really good too! Nothing exaggerated. Beans are good but the Mexican rice is excellent. It's so simple that it is really awesome. The staff is not perfect but they are trying. So I do bear with them. Usually under staffed. Oh, I was forgetting the amazing flour tortillas!!!! Make sure to get them fresh of the grill! and cover them with margarine. If you don't have patience do not go to this place because you may be disappointed. This is my favorite Mexican Restaurant . Thanks for reading! Happy eating!

We went for lunch my daughter ate bean cheese and chicken nachos and I got the AMAZING Picadillo plate!!! It's the BEST!! We come back several times a month! They also have this wonderful sign in the back of the store exit which states What would you want to do before you Die! Some people say become famous, travel, etc. it's good to contemplate because several individuals in my life have been taken way before their time. They are sorely missed, remember to enjoy life always to the fullest!!

Some people would say places like Mi Tierra or Pico de Gallo are "authentic" or "real" San Antonio dining experiences but they are wrong. To have a real experience one must go where the locals eat and that place is Blanco Cafe. The enchilladas are INCREDIBLE. There are no others like it in town. The place is a little hole in the wall joint but this really shows what most of San Antonio is like. The Riverwalk is a tiny part of town and not a true representation of the people and Blanco Cafe embodies all that is San Antonio.

Best cheese enchiladas in San Antonio! No one can compete. This is the only thing I order when I go and I have to get my fix often. The tortillas, rice and beans are great too! Yes the atmosphere isn't for show but it's clean. It's true that you have to pay extra for the chips and salsa so we just don't order them when we go there. The salsa is watery and not worth paying for anyway! The prices have gone up but the meals is still a steal of a deal. If you go during normal lunch and dinner hours it's standing room only while waiting awhile for a table. It's popular!

Creepy atmosphere, so-so food. Most Mexican joints in San Antonio do it better.

Took my family to the Blanco Cafe and loved it. I had to enchiladas and they were wonderful. My family had other dishes and they were great as well! Our service was good, and I would return.

Everything you have read in other reviews about how great this place is, is understated. The cheese enchiladas were off the chart. The waitress, although busier than a one-armed paper hanger in a windstorm, was charming and efficient. the only con to me is that the food is so good and reasonably priced, that parking during lunch time can be difficult. I am sure some people have an issue with the fact that they do not provide chips and salsa for free, but those of us who really aren't that big on chips and salsa appreciate the fact that they charge the ones who want them instead of raising menu prices on the rest of us to cover the cost of the chips and salsa.

We go to this restaurant a LOT! Quick service, delish food, wonderful place for families. I love their beef, chicken and turkey; my grandkids love the sausage, mac & cheese, and even the broccoli! The inside is wooden tables with paper towels for napkins. We go here because of the outside eating area that has a wonderful children's playground! Went yesterday in the rain....son and I sat under a covered table; my granddaughter at a bit and then played in the rain!

,food took long , waitress was rude . and they dont seem to like to answer phone or put you on hold and forget about you while still on the phone for to go orders so had to eat there.

Fast service, clean, good food. It felt like I was eating food from more traditional Mexican cooks. Old fashioned diner ambiance.

A great place for a little hole in the restaurant. Had excellent breakfast and fairly cheap. Despite this "hole in the wall" status, which by the way-I strive to look for, the food was very good and service was outstanding. Simple decor, dont expect anything too elaborate but does have that family owned atmosphere with wait staff that care about what they do. Definitely worth going to.

Everyone in my family will tell you that this is Tex-Mex (the best of Mexican food) at its' best. I drive from Atlanta, GA at least twice each year and NEVER miss several meals at the number one place to eat in the world. I've eaten in 4 star rests. all over the world (lived in Europe 9 years). Not a single one makes a meal that is consistently as good. This isn't a tourist trap, and certainly isn't fancy, but it is the very best. Would give a higher rating if it were available--I'm sure it is what's on the menu in heaven.

Enchiladas and puffy taco were tasty. Friendly staff and great prices on specials of the day. Simple environment in older part of town. It was as expected. Sometimes you gotta go where the puffy tacos are!

a very good menu, hot food, good service and reasonable prices, they have been around for a lot of years. They have not let their service or food decline

I went here for the first time when business compadres recommended this place. The homemade tortillas are amazing, and worth the trip! I had the avocado tacos and my friends had the Enchilada platter. The service was good and timely. We stayed for over an hour, and it was well worth it! Take your gringo family there and show them what real food is like.

I have been going into the Blanco Cafe, off and on, since 2016, and I was always pleased with the quality of the food, and the service. But I took some family members there a week ago and both the quality of the product and the service have gone down hill. I was served my plate, but my two guests were served a good five minutes later. The waitress was so clueless that she came by and asked why I had not touched my meal. I had to explain to her that it was poor maners for me to eat while they did not have their meal. Plus, the food presentation was not what it should have been.

You will find this place packed with locals by 11:00 every day. Why? Because the #1 Combo Plate ($6.95) comes with 3 Cheese enchiladas, a taco, a chalupa, guacamole, rice, beans and tortillas. This is typical homemade SA stuff and usually can feed myself, wife and five year old son. Add a couple of sodas and you still have change from a ten dollar bill (before tipping the very efficient waitress of course). Highly recommended!

We were so excited to try this restaurant today had heard so much about it. Well what a disappointment. The enchiladas were covered in a red sauce Not real chili and the taco had no favor at all. You can get a taco at Taco Bell better than theirs. And to top it off they charge you for chips and salsa, chips were so hard you couldn't even eat them. What Mexican Restaurant charges you for chips and salsa. This is not Tex-Mex food.

I grew up on Texas Mexican (Tex-Mex) food and continue to eat it on a regular basis. As much Mexican food as I’ve eaten, the Blanco Cafe on Blanco Rd is the very best I’ve ever had. I consider it to be on a whole other level from any other I’ve had. The old-style cafe diner atmosphere goes perfectly with the food. The service has always been good, the food comes out quickly, and the prices are very reasonable. On our recent visit, we were in and out in under an hour, and that was at peak lunchtime and even having had to wait a few minutes for a table to free up. The only down side is the lack of ample parking. We had to circle about 10 minutes or so before a spot opened up in the small, tight lot behind the cafe. We typically get the cheese enchiladas with a crispy beef taco that comes with rice and beans, which is listed under Favorites on the menu, though I’ve had the Deluxe Mexican Dinner that is excellent as well. And the included flour tortillas couldn’t be any better. We also ordered a side of guacamole that is just perfect to our likings. Our friends that live in San Antonio introduced us to the cafe years ago. We visit San Antonio about once a year on a work-related trip and we always make the Blanco Cafe a stop while we’re there. We could never visit San Antonio without eating at the Blanco Cafe.

Best enchiladas in town. The # 2 dinner is the bomb.

On a tip from a friend we searched out Blanco Cafe and were not disappointed. Our waitress was very nice and it was only a short wait for our food. The enchiladas were very good original Tex Mex food.

2 breakfast tacos and a tea (not to go) = $13. WTH, maybe in NYC, not in Texas would I pay that, and I'm a long time customer.

My wife & I go to SA every year for a getaway. We've never been disappointed when eating here! I mean NEVER. They have daily specials and extremely reasonable prices. Admittedly it's not on the "Riverwalk" but it is well worth the short drive. We have enjoyed many lunches there and you will too! The cheese enchiladas in the red corn tortillas are SUPER!

If you want to eat REAL Tex-Mex, Blanco Café is the place to go.. Their enchiladas are hands down the best in San Antonio. Lots of food, price very reasonable.

Took the advice from tripadvisor and went to Blanco Cafe. We had to wait in line to get in because the area is so small and it was filled with locals. My family doubted me when I said they were voted "best enchiladas in San Antonio" until they tried it. My sister-in-law who is Mexican agreed that it was the best Mexican food of all the ones we ate at in San Antonio. I ordered a meal with cheese and chicken enchiladas and they were AWESOME! I've been craving Blanco Cafe enchiladas ever since.

I was in town for a conference and looking for a different breakfast after two days of a hotel buffet. The hotel concierge immediately recommended Blanco Cafe. I am glad she did. The breakfast tacos were delicious and the coffee was fantastic. My bill was less than $7.00. I wish I had found out about this place in time to eat dinner there. I will definitely do so the next time I am in San Antonio.

This was our first time eating here and it didn’t disappoint! It was recommended to us by a family member. We had puffy tacos, enchiladas, and chicken caldo...it was all delicious. They do a great job of getting customers in and out, which is great since it’s a busy place. We will definitely be back!

Delicious! The enchiladas have been voted best since 2012- and they definitely deserve it! We also had the pancakes and the chilaquiles plate! You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu!

The best enchiladas. ...ever. We actually ate there for breakfast and then got take out for dinner. Don't miss this one!

On a busy day, we sat at the bar and ordered our tacos and coffee. That coffee is amazing. Our tacos were delicious, but had no salt whatsoever. I don't mind having to add salt. The part that bothered us is that we wanted to order more tacos and coffee, but were ignored the entire time. My sister tried flagging down the waitress, but she just kept walking and didn't even look at her. It was pretty bad. We would've spent so much more money, but I guess they were too busy to care. That's really sad since their food is pretty good. Would come back again, but I wouldn't want to pay to be ignored.

They say you can't swing a cat without hitting a Mexican restaurant in San Antonio, but this one is worth noting. It is in the downtown area. It serves HUGE portions of very good food. They do charge for refills, chip, salsa, etc. But you can use the silverware and napkins for free. Worth a stop.

This was my first visit to Blanco Cafe. I ordered the Triple Enchilada Plate with beans & rice with sweet tea. The enchiladas were delicious, fresh, and filling. One was chicken, one was beef, and one was pork. The rice was tasty and the refried beans were smooth and delicious. The sweet tea was just about perfect and came in a huge glass. The service was very fast and friendly. The prices were very reasonable. This place was packed and busy but the service was still friendly & attentive, the food came out fast, and there was only a short wait to get a table. Very delicious, authentic Tex-Mex.

We went here after a morning basketball game. I had two breakfast tacos and coffee. There were six of us - five adults and the young basketball player. I had two breakfast tacos which were okay, though not particularly hot, but overpriced based on what I was used to. Most of the others had been there before and voiced no regrets. Our basketball player went to the bathroom and came back quickly, declaring it "stinky." His grandmother went to the ladie's room and later told me the odor was heavy, but a disinfectant, or something like that. All in all, I would return if in the area, but there are plenty of Mexican restaurants in the area.

Food is good and it is a very small, quaint Mexican restaurant. Service is good. Would recommend visiting.

Don't go to Blanco Cafe if you want white linen tableclothes and cloth napkins or if you are looking for an upscale dining experience. But if you want amazing authentic Mexican food, this is your place. There are two locations in San Antonio; this one is the original, both are good. Their cheese enchiladas are the best anywhere and their refried beans are prepared the original, correct Mexican way allowing for no gastro issues. Did I mention their cheese enchiladas are the best?

They would rate higher if they wouldn't use American cheese for everything.

Been going here for years, back when Casbeer's was across the street ( ABSOLUTELY BEST ENCHILADAS EVER IN SAT ). The food was great back then, but in the past several years, has been diminishing gradually, culminating with the recent COVID 19 fiasco, their prices increased excessively ( their excuse was because of the virus, BUT ADAMANTLY EMPHASIZED THE PRICES WOULD RETURN TO NORMAL AFTERWARDS ) ! Well, it is " AFTERWARDS ", prices remain the same AND QUALITY of FOOD SERIOUSLY DECREASED ! Started taking " Short Cuts ", as in other Tex - Mex restaurants, mainly in the Northside, NOW, you want REAL, AUTHENTIC & HIGH QUALITY MEXICAN CUISINE, HEAD FOR THE WEST, SOUTH & EAST SIDES of The city, there, there are NO " SHORT CUTS ", Arroz Mejicano IS TRUE, MADE FROM THE HEART, CLASSIC ARROZ, WITH A VARIETY of EXTRAS, i.e. carrots, peas, bell pepper, cebolla, chopped up tomatoes, in some cases, even chick peas, Garbanzos, guacamole IS REAL GUACAMOLE, with tomatoes, cebolla, jalapeños, cilantro, spices and lime juice, NOT JUST MASHED UP AVOCADOS !! Sorry, this place has gone down BIG TIME !! smh

Breakfast tacos were good especially for the price. Sodas are in cans. Parking in back was tight & limited seating inside. Busy Sunday morning.

I was a little sceptical when family we were visiting brought us to this "hole-in-the-wall" place but the menu stated "Voted best enchiladas in San Antonio" so I ordered cheese enchiladas and they were AWESOME! I've been craving Blanco Cafe enchiladas since before our trip ended. The temperature in the Cafe was a little warm but all in all the food was delicious. I will definately eat at this Blanco Cafe the next time I'm visiting San Antonio.

I should have taken a photo of what I ate for breakfast, but I'll try to remember next time. One of my favorite things to order here is the potato, and chrizo breakfast taco! It was really, really good! I'll also give kudos on the eggs over medium! They were perfect! You'd be surprised to know that not every restaurant that serves breakfast can get eggs over medium right the first time around. Also, say, "Hi" to Gloria! She's my favorite waitress! She's very attractive if you're lucky enough to sit in the area she's covering that day. Your coffee cup will never be empty.

Blanco is not for the tourist in SA. Locals from all over town come here. The enchilada plate is the best and if you are really hungry get the deluxe Mexican dinner....Thats three enchiladas, a taco, a chalupa plus rice, beans and two flour tortillas. Fine breakfast spot as well. The location near loop 410 is very good too.

Very small restaurant, limited street parking, and you can expect to wait at traditional mealtimes---but it's worth all that. Enchiladas are very tasty.

Went here on the reccomendation of a local hotel employee to get away from the traditional Riverwalk restaurants. This was honestly one of the best Mexican meals we have ever had ( my boyfriends mom can cook a mean meal, including homemade tortillas) and he even claims he thought this was better. Worth going to!

I visit San Antonio several times a year. On the list of things to do while there. 1. See family 2. Eat at Blanco Café 3. Get homemade tamales to take home 4. Eat at Blanco Café again if I am in town more than a couple of days You get amazing food at a very reasonable price when compared to the wanna be Mexican restaurants. Service is fast, efficient and courteous. I do have complaints and am happy to report them. The tables are a bit small for ALL the food that comes with a meal. You will probably have to wait for a table since it is such great food. Parking can be a challenge but you can always park in front of one of the antique or specialty shops and do some shopping to walk off all the food!

If you want true San Antonio neighborhood Mexican food this is it. Not fancy, not expensive but awesome! It's diner style; sit at the counter or grab the first available table. Lunchtime is always packed so arrive early.

Best tacos around! Frequented by the locals to endulge in authentic Mexican food, tacos and dishes like caldo and menudo. Always a packed house. Use parking behind building.

Quaint. They don't have desserts which is strange. The sour cream chicken enchilada is not your typical one. They serve the sour cream separately. The enchilada is served with red sauce.

Good cheap eats for breakfast. Huevos Rancheros is okay which includes tortillas, potatoes and refried beans. For the price, you can't go wrong. Service is good. Have only gone for breakfast here, no line ups when we arrived at around 10am.

We met friends here for dinner. After hearing them rave about the food at the Blanco Café for quite some time, we were looking forward to trying the food. Sadly, I was disappointed. This was some of the blandest food I’d eaten in a long time. The strongest flavor in anything I tasted was the strong taste of chlorine in my glass of water. My first disappointment was that I was looking forward to trying their mole. Since we were there on Friday and the menu that they have on their website said that mole was one of their Friday specials, I fully expected to be able to order mole. However, the menu at this location is not the same as on their website, and mole is actually one of Saturday’s specials here. My husband did order one of their Friday specials, the pollo con calabaza (chicken and squash), but they were out. We started with chips and salsa. Here, they are not complimentary . I wouldn’t have minded paying for good salsa, but this salsa was watery and completely flavorless. I ended up ordering the puffy tacos. Since I was in San Antonio and puffy tacos are a San Antonio thing, I thought I’d go with that. Bad move. First, they were disintegrating before the even arrived at the table. Second, the chicken in the tacos was completely flavorless. It tasted like chicken that had been boiled with no seasoning at all. Seeing that the puffy tortillas had turned to mush, our waitress asked if I wanted to send them back and get something else, so I took her up on it. I ordered the fajita tacos and a side of rice. The rice had a good, firm texture, but was just as bland as the chicken had been and had the taste of the heavily-chlorinated water. The fajitas were also flavorless. I did like the corn tortillas. They were very thick and were the only thing I ate here that had any flavor. Our waitress was pleasant and did her best to keep our somewhat large group happy. Food here arrives when it is ready, so some of us were waiting while others already had their food. One lady in our group ended up sitting while everyone else was eating, even though she had ordered at the same time and ordered the same thing as someone else who got their food right away. There isn’t much in the way of atmosphere, which is what you’d expect in a basic diner kind of place. Tables are placed close together and it would feel a little cramped if it were crowded.
Always Great!
I have been going to the Blanco Cafe for years now whenever I visit San Antonio. I always thought that my favorite thing on the menu was the Deluxe Dinner. However, my last trip we went for breakfast and I had several Breakfast Tacos! Absolutely wonderful. I had the bean, cheese and bacon. Fantastic. There are lots of combinations wrapped in their home made flour tortillas. Wait staff is always friendly and provides quick wonderful service. I have to say that I really admire the kitchen staff as well - knowing this place as long as I have - several years - the food always comes out fast (the place is usually "packed") and is always consistently high quality. Great job by everyone at this restaurant.
