Beautiful, clean modern setting with excellent sushi and other Japanese favorites on 10th near Spruce. Lovely staff and food make this a go-to fav for me on a night when I do not want to cook!!

We went to see a play at the Walnut Street Theatre and stopped in for dinner before the show. It was about 5:30pm. By the time we left (around 7pm) the place was hopping. Very tasty sushi...both cold and hot. Presentation was a bit different with pieces of veggie sticking out of each roll piece. They were very accommodating to my gluten allergy. Met both the manager and the owner and had a really nice conversation. This restaurant gets a lot of theatre-goers. They also have a sushi roll named after the Walnut Street Theatre. We left feeling we had a very pleasurable experience and would definitely go back. BYOB...next time will bring.

We ate at Bleu Sushi for the first time yesterday. We had a terrific meal. The service is friendly and enthusiastic. The rolls are unusual and fun - named for local schools, neighborhoods, etc. The Temple Roll was absolutely the best sushi roll we've ever had. Everything was super fresh. The place has a nice relaxing vibe, with jazz playing. We can't recommend it enough. Whether you're a local or a visitor, check it out.

There was only 1 other table of people when we arrived and 2 more came in after us but both tables got their orders before us. Is it because we had 4 people and they both had 2? Or is it because we had some fried stuff? Please let us know because we were just sitting there confused and not sure how much longer it would take and if we should go refill our meter. Kimchee Fries $4.95 "Korean-Style French fries with kimchee, sesame sauce, wiz and scallion" I haven't had these since a food truck at school! I forgot all about it! This I really liked but the portion was kind of small. Many of their special rolls weren't that special. Ten Street Roll $11.95 "Deep fried tuna, salmon, yellowtail and white fish, finished with unagi sauce, massgo, scallion and spicy mayo" Did not like this too much. I don't usually like fried and cooked sushi but wanted to give this a try. My friends enjoyed this though. Drexel Roll $12.95 "Crunchy spicy scallop wrapped in smoke salmon and black tobiko" This one I liked!

We got the signature rolls, Rittenhouse Square, South St., Drexel and Blue. The dishes look beautiful. Very tasty and fresh. Clean and cozy place. Friendly staff. Reasonable price. The place closes at 10 PM but the kitchen closes at 9:30 so you need to order before 9:30. Will definitely come back.

Everything was great Miso soup salad rolls . Great lunch special. Clean, comfortable, relaxing . Staff was very polite and knowledgeable about menu. Close to Pennsylvania hospital and Jefferson great place to go when waiting or visiting someone ! And they deliver too

My family and I went for lunch - what a bargain! The kids each had the sushi lunch special: 2-3 sushi rolls with miso soup (usually a blah course, but this miso soup is delicious!), and salad for 8.95 or 12.95! I had the tempura lunch box and my husband had the udon lunch - so much food and everything was freshly made and delicious! The owner took the time to come chat with us. The whole experience was wonderful and I will definitely go back the next time we are in Philly.

Bleu Sushi is very friendly place. The owner is always around. The sushi is very fresh. The prices are very reasonable. When my husband and I ate there, no children were there, because every one is so friendly. I wouldn't hesitate bringing well behaved children. The place is small and tends to get crowded. If you plan to go, I would suggest you go early.

It's been 3 months that I live in philly and I did order sushi from different places around the city, but this one definitely worth the time to be tried (and reviewed!) In addition of good fresh fishes and a lot of flavors in the plates, the waiters were really professional. It was also good to have the "visit" of the owner; taking time to talk about is concept during our meal.

Not used to BYOB but I understand why it might make sense on wine (high inventory cost) but not selling beer is strange to me. Caught off guard we sent a runner. With that said, sushi rolls were very good with a good variety of multi-ingredient combos. Tight seating and relatively dark. Service was a bit slower than I would have liked. If it is crowded, try the bar seating before giving up and moving on.

I've been to Blue Sushi a few time for lunch and I love it here. Great service and great sushi. Heard they are going to have an app now and more lunch options to try. Will definitely go back.

We order sushi from Bleu Sushi once a month to our TripAdvisor office in NJ. It is, without a doubt, our favorite sushi restaurant. The rolls are perfectly made, the spring rolls are delicious, and the service is outstanding. Hendra, the owner, is extremely accommodating and personable. He makes the experience that much better! The Villanova and Locust rolls are among the office favorites here. Highly recommend this restaurant for anyone visiting the Philly area!

We've ordered from Bleu Sushi several times and the food is hit or miss. Sometimes it is really good and others just meh. My favorite item on the menu is the spicy tuna hand roll and we've enjoyed the Drexel Roll on a few occasions. The staff is always very friendly when we go in there and the ambiance is very nice for a mid-range sushi restaurant. Prices are reasonable. Wish there was more consistency.

Came here with a bachelorette party.went last week and I couldn't say enough about this place, not only was their food amazing but it was their service that really stuck with us,from the owner and manager coming to our table to introduce themselves and talk to us to make sure we didn't need anything to the complementary glass of wine for the party.these guys really made the place worth coming back to visit!

Lots of interesting sushi rolls, and also the classic rolls, everything was delicious, especially the kimchi fries for something different. Service was quick and friendly, and very COVID complaint. My kids, husband and I loved it, and highly recommend!

Under new ownership the mood at this narrow Asian boite is decidedly upbeat; tables full w/ staff from nearby Jefferson Hospital & with a revised refined menu, the food better than ever. Two chefs turn out a full range of appealing sushi/sashimi rolls, but at lunchtime we like the generous but good value bento boxes (choice of salmon, chicken or tofu, served on a nest of cooked onions), two tasty dumplings, crunchy brown rice & fresh salad. The recorded music is a bit loud & intrusive, but owner Hendra Yong is a gracious attentive host; service is efficient & friendly & the complimentary small scoop of red bean ice cream a nice finishing touch.

Great BYOB sushi place. We had a group of 7 and all ordered different rolls to share and try. We didnt know that all the sushi would come out on a large boat. Showy yes, but it was fun. The place is popular and the staff does have a hard time keeping the time for your reservation. I would say shoot for getting there on the earlier side to avoid the crowd, it's a small place.

Best. Sushi. Ever. Most conscientious customized personalized service. Friendly awesome atmosphere. Wish I could give more stars.

TripAdvisor recommended this to us and honestly, the sushi is fantastic! The owner is really friendly. We ordered their best menus and the fishes didnt smell bad (fishy).

I've been to this restaurant many times, but the time I was most pleased was my most recent trip! my guest and I are both vegetarian, so those who are also vegetarian will hopefully find this helpful! Upon arrival we were greeted and seated, our BOYB wine was opened, and we began reviewing the menu. Within minutes we had our water glasses filled and the manager brought over a complementary appetizer. While this was amazingly generous, my friend and I both graciously refused it due to it being some sort of fish dish. Without second though we continued on with our night there. It was to our surprise, at the end of our meal, they had not forgotten about the incident and provided us with complementary & delicious red-bean ice cream. We were so pleased with the atmosphere, food, and service. We'll both be back!

I visited this restaurant with my wife. The quality of food is great, but not the best. The food prices are not that expensive and the staff is friendly. If you want some decent sushi and rolls, but don't wanna spend lots of money, this is the place.

Had a reservation on a friday night. Waited for a table to open but no problem. Worth the wait. The place is narrow and fills up quickly. Make a reservation if you go at busy time.Wait staff very friendly. Appetizers oyster tempura and the vegetable and shrimp are the best! Sushi outstanding. BYOB. Very reasonable. Do not miss out on this gem!!

The food is fresh and you can tell they use top of the line ingredients. The wait staff was fantastic. Even when my wife questioned what type of tea they used, they gladly brought out the bag so we could see the brand and sent us home with a little bit to make at home. This place is worth the trip and driving around to find parking (we parked 6 blocks away). We'll definitely be going back.

I had a good dinner here. I have a real favorite sushi place in the suburbs that I prefer. This place did a good job. The sushi was fresh, tasted good, service was good. I will definitely be going back

A party of four and had a reservation for 8:30pm. As we walked in, we were greeted warmly. I have previously tried miso soup at Bleu sushi, and it is seriously the best miso I have ever eaten. Their miso brings me back everytime and the reason why I have decided to be a regular and that this place deserves my review online. We then ordered our usual appetizer: kimchee fries, age tofu, and fried gyoza. Which are always great. We like to eat a lot of ala carte and the fish here is the best for sashimi and sushi lovers. It is always so fresh and delicious. They give generous cuts, too. Everytime I always asks for extra white radish to eat with my sashimi, they will happily give serious extra for me. I also recommend the Temple roll, Ten Street roll, and lobster salad roll called Market. The unusual combination in those rolls will make you appreciate the owner and chef Hendra's creativity. While you are dining, he and his staff will regularly visit you and your tables to check on everything. We all ended the night with an order of green tea ice cream. All in all we love you Bleu!

Stopped by here one night on a recent trip to Philly. Small restaurant, with dim lights and candles creating a nice atmosphere. Staff were very attentive, service was prompt. Dishes were fresh, with good variety on offer. Really enjoyed my meal but annoyed at myself for not realising it was BYOB. A glass of white would have gone well with the good food! Would come again

Had to host an event with a very large party and needed a location with great food, well priced and BYOB. It was my first time visiting this restaurant and my experience was phenomenal, the sushi was great and all 38 of us loved the appetizers and the variety of options. Staff is very professional and friendly, going out of their way to accommodate the various requests we had. I highly recommend this location.

Having lived in Japan for about 18 months, my taste follows traditional Japanese flavor and cuisine. That being said, this restaurant is excellent. The miso soup was unimpressive, but when it came to the sashimi it was absolutely delicious. The fish was fresh extremely well cut and flavorful. The rice was served mixed with kombu and very tasty. Price was very reasonable. I would definitely go there again.

Smallish restaurant that serves fresh sushi and other Japanese specialties. The service is very polite, the manager approached our table and inquired whether everything was prepared to our liking. The sushi, sashimi, and rolls tasted quite fresh, there was a decent selection of maki, hand rolled sushi, and signature rolls. A few things to keep in mind: the exotic sounding rolls featuring the names of Philadelphia neighborhoods, streets, and neighboring states are essentially the same rolls with the same ingredients you come across elsewhere and not unique to Blue Sushi. Also, when you get lunch specials, such as any 3 rolls or sushi/sashimi combo, the choice of rolls are quite limited to the cheaper options, such as ubiquitous California roll. However, the above problems are taken care of by the restaurant's low prices, about 20% to 30% percent cheaper than you usually see elsewhere. Food presentation is good, but nothing that is really going to strike your imagination. Definitely recommended, especially for a quick and inexpensive lunch.

This is a neighborhood BYO restaurant for me. Ambience is lovely. Reasonably priced. I take saki and Perrier. That said, the food is delicious. The hand rolls and fish were fresh and flavorful. The dumplings delicious fried or steamed.Husband had the sizzling salmon teriyaki and loved it. The shrimp teriyaki was perfectly done. The service was super. When I thanked the chef, he was thrilled

Used to love this place - the only sushi restaurant I would go to! Always recommended to friends. However, they recently changed their menu and the once amazing signature roll combo is now lacking. I visited this weekend - the price went up a little but it now includes a small plate - good deal, right? Nope. The amount and quality of the sushi you get has seriously diminished - the size of each piece of my roll was about 1/2 the size of a normal piece I typically get there. Also, they give free ice cream for dessert and this is the first time in dozens of visits they did not. Assuming they are trying to save money but will not be going back after that experience. Time to find a new spot

Bleu sushi is dollar for dollar the best sushi in Philadelphia in my opinion. You could spend more, but if you want to go to Morimoto then that's a different experience. Bleu sushi is an intimate, cozy spot where the fresh fish and the sushimaster do the talking. My wife and I tried several rolls and really enjoyed their Bleu roll which was a spicy tuna roll with avocado on top. It was not the kind of spicy tuna that is overdone with spicy mayo to mask inferior fish. Excellent. Their deep fried rolls were great too. I really liked their Walnut roll which had oyster in it. A definite neighborhood gem which I am sure will get much more busy as the locals, students, residents etc find it. It's in the location of the old 10th street Pour House. BYOB also helps keep the costs manageable. Closest beer is at the Foodery on 10th and Pine (excellent selection). Closest wine is on chestnut between 12th and 13th at the PLCB.

Went to Bleu Sushi to celebrate my birthday with my husband and our dear friends. We all loved not only the service; but also the special attention the owner, Hendra, gave to us. He was warm and inviting and very informative about what was on his menu. It was each of our first time to this establishment. After a MOST memorable evening of delicious food and great service; we will absolutely be back again very soon. This is now, by far, my favourite sushi restaurant in Philadelphia.

Sunday night and you need a reservation. There is an extensive sushi menu, we tend to favor dinners. They come with a ginger salad and misu soup as well as your choice of protein. BYO . The owner was present and we had a nice conversation as he had just returned from shopping for some garden equipment to water the outside flowers. He is from Indonesia and ads some Indonesian dishes to the menu.

This is a cute little sushi spot....one problem this place is bring your own bottle....the sushi is freshly made the service is fast and friendly but I love hot saki with my sushi..... little disappointing especially since I didn't bring my own.....any way Philly being so friendly the couple next to us offered some of their wine ..... brotherly love

Only about 50 seats and the owner Hendra is there to welcome everyone, explain the beautiful food and return to check on diners. Just open six weeks, still on Groupon for a deal. Fish is sent in from Japan to assure quality standard is high. Artistic presentation. We tried sashimi plate as well as several rolls, all EXCELLENT. It is BYOB, no corkage. We are new to city and traveled from Northern Liberties to this Washington Square area. Beautiful streets for a stroll after too. If you like fresh sushi, give this a try.

Had a great meal here with a group of friends! Such a big choice of sushi available and some good choices too if you’re not into sushi. Wait staff are friendly are helpful with the menu, happy to substitute ingredients for others. It’s also BYOB without charging corkage. Owner came over to introduce himself which was nice too.

Popped in for a quick bite and was surprised with a great ambiance with a friendly staff. The food was delicious...fresh sushi and who doesn’t like BYOB?! I highly recommend this restaurant and will be back!

Excellent sushi in Center City Philly. The staff are very nice as well. You really can't go wrong with any roll here.

Bleu Sushi is a small, pleasant and quite intimate Japanese restaurant in Center City, very close to the Jefferson campus and hospital. That block of 10th St. has several restaurants and stores and Bleu Sushi has a dark glass front and can easily be missed. We're glad we didn't miss it. The proprietor greets you heartily as you come in. We ordered miso soup, seaweed salad and a combination plate of sushi, sashimi and a roll, which was big enough to share. Everything was very tasty, and the combo plate was beautifully arranged. The fish was fresh and delicate and the roll was tasty and crispy. We ordered tempura read bean ice cream, which we thought was the weakest part of the meal. The owner, Hendra Yong, and his staff, are very attentive, polite and efficient. The decor is tasteful, and I particularly liked the floral arrangement next to the sushi work table. I highly recommend this restaurant. Prices are very reasonable and and the food is definitely worth it.

The selection of sushi and rolls was good and we sampled a few. All were very good. The place allows you to bring your own bottle with no corking fee so feel free to bring your favorite sake. My only negative is that the place has no air conditioning and gets very hot and humid with a few small fans running which don’t provide much airflow.

Very accommodating, our server was fantastic, and informative with lunch specials and simply explaining things we've never heard of before (Most importantly, with a smile :). He even gave us a free scoop of ice cream at the end of our meal with wrapped up the already great experience perfectly.

I joined my cousin on a business trip to Philly, and our first search was for great sushi. We read some reviews and settled on Bleu Sushi. We were not let down. The atmosphere is welcoming and the blue lighting is a unique touch. We tried the UPenn, Drexel, and Race rolls and loved all three. Towards the end of our meal, the owner came over and introduced himself. He told us more about the establishment and was very interested on our dining experience. It was a nice touch and we were genuinely thankful. He brought us a complementary appetizer to sample, and then the waitress brought us a peach ice cream. If I am ever in the area again, I will definitely stop by for more sushi.

We went here for lunch and the restaurant was pretty quiet, something that we really appreciated. The sushi was marvellous! The fish was fresh and almost meaty, and it was served in a very luxurious way. We adored the place. The price is fair for the quality of the meal!

Scallops & mushrooms app was great followed by tempura oysters, delicious, spicy tuna hand rolls, smoked eel sushi, salmon teriyaki was all served at a perfect pace, the owner was incredibly friendly and we will definitely be back.

Our dinner experience didn’t start great when we sat with no service for almost 10 minutes. Table had a cold draft and we were hungry. Also didnt know it was BYOB so they don’t provide any alcohol. I was wanting a glass of wine but was satisfied after ordering a hot green tea which was very flavorful. The miso soup was great and we enjoyed the edemome, and the Bleu Sushi roll. The temple roll was average. The owner came by our table at the end of our meal and was very friendly. He brought us ice cream on the house and chatted for a bit. It was a nice meal.

Great food, great service, good ambience. The only thing really off here is the jazz music. It's an Asian restaurant run by Asians. Jazz music doesn't belong whatsoever. Other than that, its a small restaurant so no big loud parties or families with screaming kids. For me, I'll just pick up the good food and skip all that jazz...

Let me first start with the fact that when we choose to try a new sushi spot, we do not mess around. The only thing that I am probably more serious about is soup. This is why we were extremely pleasantly surprised to find Bleu Sushi nestled away in Center City. They had no problem accommodating our larger party (7 people to be exact) for our 11-year-old daughter's birthday dinner, Even our family that was visiting from Florida was impressed and asked that we return next time they come to visit. We started with the scallops and shiitakes, salmon oshinko, and a salmon skin salad (I have a slight obsession with salmon skin). The scallops were cooked perfectly and dredged in a beautiful savory sauce, but the mushrooms were even better. The consistency is what made them so amazing, not too firm and not too soft, and piping hot. They were easily my favorite thing we had all night, and if i could simply get pounds of these mushrooms cooked this way, I would come here every single day, just for them. The salmon oshinko was actually very interesting, not something we had tried anywhere before, but was recommended by our server, so we thought we'd try it. It had a very nice smoky salmon flavor, almost like nova lox, and went really well with the other vegetables that were wrapped up with it. Then there was the salmon skin... not anything spectacular or different, but it was a ton of salmon skin, which is exactly what I wanted, and it was presented in a nice semi-sweet glaze which made it hard to not eat all of it before anyone else had any. Out of the seven of us ,only my youngest daughter does not eat sushi, so she had chicken teriyaki, while the rest of us ordered a large sushi boat, which blew the birthday girl away. Her teriyaki was perfect and was nice and tender with a good amount of sauce, with really nice sticky rice and seared veggies on the side. The boat was huge and a ton of care was put into the presentation, complete with some glowing cubes that really caught her attention. I don't remember every roll that we ordered for the boat, but the ones that really jumped out at me were the Temple, Villanova, Ten street, and Drexel rolls. There were a couple more, but I don't remember what they were. They were all fantastic, super fresh, and different. Each one was unique in its own way, with the Temple and Villanova being similar, but it was the Villanova that really blew me away. It seemed to be a nicely-sized spicy tuna roll, but is topped with salmon that is garnished with fresh cracked black pepper and then seared with a torch till it has wonderful crispy brown edges. Not only did it have a great smoky, crispy flavor and texture, but it filled the restaurant with this amazing scent of grilled fish; something neither I or Jen had seen done anywhere before. Honestly, it is worth visiting Bleu Sushi simply for this roll, or maybe two or three orders of this roll. Pair this with those mushrooms from the scallop dish, and I would be in heaven. We were barely able to finish all the food we had ordered but the staff came out of left field and had a small cake for our older daughter and gave everyone else at the table assorted ice cream dishes as part of the birthday celebration. This was really nice and really made her night. Everything here was great and we will definitely be returning here in the future. If you are around the Jefferson hospital area and want a great Japanese meal, check out Bleu Sushi, you will definitely not be disappointed!

Stopped in on a Saturday nite and was seated right away tho they did ask if we had reservations and they did fill up shortly after. We ordered a variety of rolls and appetizers. All were delicious. We had pork gyozu, shrimp yakitori, chicken shumai, and 4 rolls. The fried oyster with eel sauce was superb. It's reasonably priced and service was great.

The food and service is impressive. Everything is cooked to order and to your taste. The owner is on site and he remembered us from a previous dine because I like my cooked fish medium rare. He personally thanked us for coming back and he visited every other diners. From the outside it is just one of many nondescript store fronts on south 10th Street. Once inside and one can see the difference in the lighting and the aromas from the kitchen and view the sushi chefs preparation to the back. And it is BYO

This wonderful little restaurant is a great find. We tried numerous "starters" and all of them were prepared extremely well with a marvelous combination of flavors. The seaweed salad was the best I have ever had. We really enjoyed the Hamachi Radish and Red Snapper Cucumber. We ate so many appetizers, that we went with some sashimi and a signature roll for the main meal. All the fish was very fresh and flavorful. The roll was beautifully prepared and the sauces on the roll had wonderful flavor. As we have friends who live near this restaurant, this will become one of our 'regular' restaurants. Ah yes -- the prices were very, very reasonable for an excellent restaurant.

This restaurant is a great neighborhood find. Service aims to please. Make sure you are on time for the lunch specials-there seems to be no flexibility here! A nice touch is the complementary green tea ice cream.

At Bleu Sushi great food and nice staff, BUT since the last visit on August 2019,they started to charge the 20% fee on any payment made with a groupon. We find this UNFAIR.

Large menu with many different rolls, sushi and dinners. Try one of the hot entrees as it comes out of the kitchen sizzling and you have to give it time to cool before eating. Just sit there and inhale the aromas. BYO so enjoy a glass of your own wine. Dinners come with soup or salad with ginger dressing. They also offer a small, complimentary dish of ice cream.

We had the steak and chicken teriyaki. Both of which was very flavorful! The service was excellent and the decor was very romantic. Not a bring your kid kind of place. Great for groups, they would probably have to just rearrange the seats. Enjoy!!

The food is very fresh and the ambiance is very nice too. However we purchased Groupon for this place and we had no idea that only few things on the menu were covered by the Groupon and of course they didn't tell us this even though I mentioned this when I made reservations, so our bill ended up being $100 so why even bother to get Groupon. The food was nice but so expensive and there are so many awesome places to eat in Philadelphia with just as great food and cheaper. Fresh sushi is fresh sushi. My favorite food.

A warm, October Sunday evening dinner at what I consider a top, and overlooked Japanese restaurant that is a neighborhood gem. The greeter recognized us from previous dines and seated us promptly; water and menus came and we spent some time looking at the menu. Very extensive with numerous sushi rolls plus sushi and sashimi. We tend to order entrees and opted for the filet mignon teriyaki and a red snapper teriyaki. Both are accompanied by either soup or salad and white rice. They came out sizzling and after letting them cool proceeded to eat them. Fantastic taste. A few others were dining when we came in and a few more came in before we left. It is recommended that you make a reservation as the restaurant is small. They do a large take out business as well as deliver. We received a complimentary dish of ice cream. BYO. Parking is on the street at meters.

This is a favorite. Food is consistent in quality. Just added new to the menu is a red snapper yakatori. Served on a sizzling platter with vegetables and your choice of either soup or salad. I chose the salad; crisp and with ginger dressing. The owner is visible on the floor and buses tables and stops to chat as he recognizes us as regulars. The restaurant is small by most standards. Definitely seating under 50 people. I would suggest a reservation. They also do a big take out as well as delivery business. BYO and two can eat for under $50. We prefer an entree rather then the many sushi offerings. We are in the minority.

The management of this establishment loves its customers to be happy, well fed and satisfied. The sushi is fresh and full of flavor while the other choices on the menu are varied and very tasty. Nice people seem to frequent this restaurant. An excellent choice for a great meal.
Easy to Miss
Easy to miss, this narrow unassuming Asian nook is worth a second look. Especially at lunchtime & for only $8.50, you can choose either two from a wide variety of freshly made sushi rolls or an intersting Japanese lunchbox - both served w/ a (trendy curved) bowl of hot miso & green salad. Cordial efficient service & tasteful art enhance the experience.
