Great food, mixed service

By helenbatten24 |

We enjoyed a great meal here during our stay in San Diego. Our waitress was lovely and recommended a fish dish which my husband really enjoyed. I also had fish (different dish) and the food was fantastic. The only criticism was that our food was sitting beneath the hot plate for 5 minutes before it was served and other waiters/waitresses walked past it as they were obviously only able to serve their own tables. This was a shame as our waitress was so busy. All in all, an enjoyable meal and a restaurant I would recommend.

Good food and service

By mrobson |

We had lunch here. The restaurant has a nice view of the marina. Our waitress was pleasant and efficient and our salad and sandwich tasted good.

A Restaurant With A View

By fear-teagaisg |

It is so pleasurable to have outside seating in the restaurant particularly in the evening when you are relaxing and enjoying dinner. The prices are fairly reasonable and the quality of the food is good. The servers are pleasant, helpful and keen to ensure that you enjoy your meal. When you have finished your meal and enjoyed a glass of wine it is so relaxing to walk back to your room along the path facing the marina and hear the sounds and see the marina community enjoying a relaxing evening on board their boats.

Waterfront views

By sheerin j |

The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Was attended to within a reasonable amount of time. Didn't have to wait to long for my meal to arrived. Got everything I ordered. And was asked if the meal was okay after being served

Good restaurant located on scenic Shelter Island.

By ncifsell |

Located at the Best Western Island Palms hotel and marina. Scenic location with view of the marina, offers indoor dining and an outdoor seating deck next to the lovely pool. Beautiful landscaping with palm trees and other tropical plants and flowers, in keeping with the polynesian theme of shelter island. Great food and service.

Avoid during Pandemic

By JoJo B |

We dine in on June 20 while staying in the hotel. This was suppose to be a pre Father's day dinner. Inside it was just us & one additional family. The atmosphere was so depressing! Limited Menu, was hoping for some steak. Nope. Ended getting only dessert to go. Appetizer was a disappointment. We opted for BBQ as the only meat selection. It was OK. Another couple came in and as soon as they saw the Menu the got up & walked away. I really wished we would have done the same our bill was $167 & change.

Delicious Birthday Dinner

By Barbara P |

My family joined me in celebrating my birthday dinner at the Blue Wave Bar and Grill on Shelter Island. The food was absolutely delicious! Two of us ordered the Caesar salad and the others had the clam chowder. Both were very tasty! The salad was extremely large so we could've shared it. I ordered the salmon special, which came with grilled asparagus and roasted potatoes. It was perfect. Others raved about the cioppino and the linguini with clams. The birthday chocolate dessert was so good! We had a beautiful view of the boats on the bay with the evening lights. The service was great and we were able to get a table at 7:00 on a Saturday night.

Good Quality for Institutional Food

By UCLABruin84-87 |

I had made reservations on Opentable, so I was surprised when we arrived and found a note at the hostess station that said "Please Seat Yourselves" and a stack of menus. The waitress said the hostess had recently left for college and they were short-staffed. They also seemed to be short waitresses as well, as there was only the one waitress for the entire restaurant. Luckily, it wasn't that busy. Blue Wave Bar & Grill is tucked away in the the Best Western Plus Island Palms Hotel. It is very close to Humphrey's and there was ample parking across the street in the lot, so it is a perfect place to grab dinner before watching a show at Humphrey's. They even have a 3-course prix fixe meal on concert nights. However, we didn't order it because they seemed so short-staffed and we were concerned about them being able to deliver all three courses in time for us to make our show. The food was good, but didn't knock your socks off. Between the four of us, we tried the seared scallops, filet mignon and the grilled salmon. Each dish was presented nicely, but lacked the flair of individual flavors that you get at upper scale restaurants. But it served its purpose as a tasty meal near Humphreys. Moreover, they have a beautiful view of the marina and the docked boats on two sides of the restaurant, so the setting is lovely. I'm glad I tried it and it was fine, but I don't think there was anything about our dining experience that would draw me back to eat there again.

Great service and good food

By JJwhite904 |

Price here was reasonable and the food was tasty. We just had breakfast but the view of the marina was wonderful at that time of day.

Good food and service

By Flop45 |

Staying at the hotel we ate here a few times, always good food and service - thank you Paula! Would highly recommend.

Very good breakfast; be prepared for a HUGE wait

By Milocat007 |

We stayed at the hotel and tried the Blue Wave for breakfast. Took almost 10 minutes to seat us and about 20 minutes to take our order, then another 20 minutes for our eggs. And the place was about 1/2 full. Having said that, our server was very nice, the view of the marina is nice, and the quality of the food was superior. It's possible they were understaffed, but we'll go down the street to the Bay Club next time, where the service was perfect. Prices are not bad; $13.50 for a good omelet. Only 3 stars because of the huge wait.

Great choice

By Michelle M |

I am so happy we chose to eat at Blue Wave! The food was amazing and I will recommend it to friends and return in the future. My husband ordered the sea bass and I enjoyed the short rib salad.

nice little restaurant with attached bar

By M. Schneider |

I liked the food, unfortunately some of the menu items were just available on the other side of the bar patio during happy hour. Most of the staff was friendly, one person was not friendly. Food was tasty, prices normal considering San Diego

A let down

By Gardengel-IoW |

We were staying the hotel for four nights. we only had one dinner and one breakfast here as so disppointing. Amazing how different experiences can be reading other reviews, we found the service lacking on both occasions. Menu ok for meat eaters but only a bowl of grains for vegetarians, so I made up a meal from side dishes. Service slow so didn't hang around for dessert. Breakfast is by menu choice and went for the simple pancakes, server forgot butter - he mentioned it straight away said 'I will fetch it now', next time he came out was with a tray of food for another table and not including a little pot of butter. Had to wait to long to get the bill on both occasions too. Restaurant wasn't over busy on either visit. We ate up the road at Kona Kai for one evening and one breakfast both very good, skipped two breakfasts and ate at Ketch and Taps on the main road into the harbour - very good and bigger than it looks. Part of the point of choosing this hotel was because it had a restaurant, so it was annoying it wasn't up to the mark, we didn't want anything flash just decent food and service.

Good seafood and other stuff

By Mounque B |

This is a very nice little restaurant with good food, seafood and a good variety with good service. Drinks are good also.

Grrat food and service

By Becky197043 |

Fantastic food and excellent service. Salinas dying was my waitress and she was so friendly and made my birthday dinner special.

Food was average

By arkadiuszVancouver |

Firstly I want to say that my wife like the fish she ordered very much, my steak on the other hand was nothing special. I think the place has potential but for me it was just average.

Great service

By Richard E |

Part of the Island Palm Hotel , small external area overlooking harbour and swimming pool slightly expensive.

Food and service excellent

By anniedutch13 |

Came here after eating crappy food and having crappy service at our hotel at the very end of the street. We spent our dining dollars here. Service excellent and the filet mignon for dinner amazing.

Great view for patio lovers....

By Michele L |

Lovely small patio with a nice view of the water and boats. Breakfast was very good at a decent price for the area. Had refreshing mimosas - a few to choose from - and a ham and cheese scramble to share. Nicely cooked and plenty to share. Server was pleasant and efficient. Free parking across the street. What a relaxing way to start the day.

Great food and service at hotel restaurant

By FlyerInMinn |

Blue Wave is at Best Western Island Palms & Marina. We ate there twice while staying at Island Palms. The food was very good. We had a seafood salad and it was excellent. Also had the fish tacos. We were expecting a mexican style fish taco but they were "sushi-style" - still it was very good. Service was excellent. Our iced tea glasses were kept full. We ate once indoors and once outside. The view of the marina is very nice.

Dinner after a long day of travel...

By YuontoGo |

We checked into the hotel and were starving, so we decided to try this restaurant in our hotel. The service was fast and friendly. The food was good although we ate light since it was late so we did not test the menu. We enjoyed our meal in the quiet atmosphere.

Blue Wave Bar & Grill @ Best Western Island Palms

By ohsoleo |

Great food; great service; and a comfortable walking distance from my room in the Casa Del Mar building. Prices were reasonable and I had the pleasure of outside seating facing the private marinas. It was fun to watch boat owners going about their daily activities and interacting with each other.

Great Breakfasts

By theaddledcowgirl |

We had breakfast on the patio twice during our stay. We loved the view of the sailboats and the service was FANTASTIC. The food was excellent and I highly recommend eating here.

Surprisingly Good for Hotel Restaurant

By Jason M |

The Blue Wave might be smack dab in the middle of a Best Western, but we were pleasantly surprised by its good quality and enjoyable outdoor seating....so much so that we had an additional meal there rather than meandering elsewhere near Shelter Island during our stay at the hotel. A fun and attentive waitress gave our visits a more personal feeling. For solid food in a very pleasant location at fair prices on Shelter Island, I think this place is worth a shot (even if you aren't a guest at the hotel or have a boat in the marina right there).

Food very tasty

By Anna Rebecca H |

For hotel food, it was quite delicious. We had most of the items on the Happy Hour menu and each was well-prepared. The prices are higher than surrounding areas, but less than most other hotel restaurants. Service was a bit uneven, but cheerful.

Excellent service and very good food

By Iain M |

We eat twice - dinner in the bar area overlooking the marina, and breakfast in the dining room. Worth staying in for at least one night rather than driving down town or to La Jolla

Great view

By Pat B |

My husband I went for dinner, we ate outside, the view was great. My husband ordered sea bass with a fresh pesto..it was fabulous. The portion was a good size and it was presented on top of a vegetable medley. I ordered a wedged salad which was plenty.

Great Happy Hour

By Sandy2645 |

Great over the marina from the bar. A fun high energy place for happy hour. The happy menu was priced well and great food. Do the happy hour.

A Pleasant Surprise

By DaRocha1104 |

An excellent "hidden gem" inside the Best Western Plus Island Palms Hotel & Marina. Excellent prices; a stellar and top-performing staff; stellar cuisine!

Truly a unique and uplifting experience

By Dis-Ability-Girl Goes AGAIN!! |

This was a true find! Five of us rated this restaurant truly one of the best we've ever enjoyed. The experience was highlighted by excellent service by our professional yet quite friendly named Julie was quite accommodating by allowing me to substitute the shellfish risotto with the toasted coconut risotto. It was just the best scallop dish I've ever eaten since the scallops "to die for" at the Kimberton Inn, in Kimberton,PA. This is the most phenomenal restaurant to have a great meal- I will say, I usually wait until I leave the restaurant to write my review but I just couldn't wait! People need to know immediately how incredible this restaurant is! There were 3 scallop dishes at our table, a fish dish and ahi poke as well. Every single dish came out amazing and 5 star! We all cleaned our plates including the 2 orders of calamari and an order of grilled Brussel sprouts! We loved all of he food so much! They also made me a perfect mock tail, and their wine and beer selection is truly fantastic! We will be back the next time we're in San Diego. This was the best experience ever!!! I hope Julie continues to get the recognition she deserves as a perfect example of a professional server. The ambiance was excellent, lighting was perfect, round tables, the rest was all perfect!

Fabulous meal at The Blue Wave!

By Taffy2020 |

Our family was all set to go out to a local restaurant that had a 60 minute wait for outdoor seating. Some of is met for a drink on the Blue Wave patio while staying at the Best Western. We saw other people receiving beautiful plates of food and then sending back an empty plate! We decided to give it a try and were seated within 10 minutes. My husband was pleasantly surprised at how much he enjoyed the Sea Bass. My risotto was fabulous. My 14 year old split a salad with her dad and got a cauliflower appetizer that was more than enough for dinner and absolutely delicious. We had great service and it was icing on the cake to keep our great parking spot in front of our room for our early morning flight out and simply walk a few steps back to our room. I would definitely come back if I get the chance!

Disappointing

By foredeckchick |

Although the view of the boats is pleasant once you find your way there, this is at the back of a motel. We ordered fried calamari and a nicoise salad. The calamari was huge pieces wfried with tasteless panko. The salad on the side was very wilted and stale. I brought this to the attention of the waitress. She merely wrapped it up in a napkin and took it away without a word then or later. My companion's nicoise also featured wilted lettuce. The other items were edible, but nothing exciting. The attitude of the server is the worst I have experienced. I will never go back.

Breakfast and dinner in the restaurant.

By Rumsey71 |

My husband and I went there todsy, for breakfast as well as dinner this evening.our server this morning was Stacy, a friendly bubbly girl who was very easy to chat with, she saw to our needs in a very efficient way, and we were very pleased with the service. So pleased that we went back this evening, and had another server, Justine, serve us. Again we were very satisfied with the atmosphere, the ambiance, and the attention we were given. Both meals were very tasteful and we were pleased.

Good food and service.

By George W |

This bar and grill was in our hotel and was a wonderful place to have breakfast and our evening meals after a day of sight seeing! Good food and prices.

Great nachos

By Richie S |

Stopped in for some drinks with friend one afternoon and decided to try their nachos with guacamole dip. 2 👍 up

happy hour

By dthorne1 |

loved sitting outside over looking the yacht club while have cocktails and fantastic appetizers with great happy hour prices

Big surprise

By Gary L |

This restaurant had two strikes against it. It is in a hotel and there were a lot of empty tables. Wow, were we surprised. The food was great and the service was also. The menu ranges from seafood to meat dishes and also has a few pasta options. I had a pork chop that was tender and delicious. The others had Mahi Mahi and fillet. Both dishes were great. The clam chowder is a must as well as the Hawaiian shrimp, appetizer. We will not hesitate to return.

Service was OK but food was nothing special.

By ParisIsAlwaysGreat |

The view from the patio overlooking the boats was lovely, and the servers were very pleasant. We had lunch here two separate times as we we staying in the hotel, but preferred to go elsewhere as the food was just OK. Nice California wine list though.

Holiday

By Andy K |

We had breakfast daily here from a great menu.Staff were great and a speedy service delivered wholesome tasty food. Jeff in the bar was great and gave Barbara a lovely drink on her Birthday. Dinner on our first night was also brilliant and would recommend this for meals and drinks during your stay

Great breakfast!

By Mary T |

The breakfast food (American, french toast, and burrito) was very good and there were enough choices on the menu for my family. However, I did notice later that we were charged for a juice that should have been included in a meal. We did have to remind the waitress a couple of times to bring water. The marina view was very nice.

Nice stop after walking the marina

By Dolly T |

We were brought here by friends after being shown around San Diego and the marinas. Nice little reprieve and we had drinks and snacks. The Brussel sprouts and cauliflower is amazing. Quiet and great for conversation.

View + Gourmet Food = Great

By GlobalGypsy_13 |

The current chef at the Blue Wave put together a tasty sample of pork bellies in a coffee reduction sauce over mashed parsnips for the Taste of Point Loma. The only thing missing from thisdelicious pairing was a bit of crunch. For a gourmet meal with a bay view, head over to the Blue Wave at the Island Palm Hotel on Shelter Island.

AWESOME PLACE

By carandnat |

Since more than 10 years , my husband and I always stay at the hotel, and always start our evening to have a drink. Jeff the bartender absolutely adorable with us and each evening we were at the bar. We were please to talk with Willy, as we are French as well, anyway, thank you for the awesome drinks we had Jeff, !!!!!! See you next time, and Merci Willy .

superb

By Shar H |

Fantastic staff and food was amazing. My steak was perfectly prepared and the sauce was to die for. Their wine menu was extensive

Great Food and Service

Great food menu and enough to share for two. Great music for the beach atmosphere and great service.

Good breakfast, excellent staff... nice views!

By thespottedtraveler |

had breakfast while staying here.... the staff was excellent. I had a skillet, was a bit overcooked, but was tasty. Hubby had the burrito... highly recommend this, it was excellent. Recommend having breakfast here if you are in the area.

Breakfast

By Fiona M |

Great Breakfast on the marina front. reasonably priced a la carte. Great outdoor deck. service excellent.

Gorgeous little place overlooking the water

By 2016ShelleyT |

One visit was enough for me to rank this as a favorite place. The food was excellent, and the service was very good. Will go back for sure.

Great location, nice hotel

By Mark L |

Restaurant is located in the Island Palms hotel at which I was staying. The patio has a great view over the boats in the harbor. Menu has nice variety. Portions are large. Flavors a bit heavy handed to me - nothing particularly elegant or balanced. Good, though.

Views galore

By Mary J |

The bar and grill is located in Best Western Plus Island Palms on Shelter Island. The food was good and you could sit in the dining room or outside on the patio with views of the pool and harbor.

Nice Restaurant

By John T |

This is hotel restaurant in the Best Western. Their dining room overlooks the marina and is very nice. We actually had breakfast everyday for our 5 day visit. We also took advantage Monday burger night. Plus we stop by for drinks a couple times. The breakfasts were solid, even though I wish they would had waffles to their menu. Their burgers were great, one of the better one I have had in a while. Only comment was I thought their dinner entrees overly complicated.

Awesome bar!

By Garrett R |

Teresa is a gem.! My brother and I went into the bar to have a few bevs and not only was it a cool spot with a waterfall in the entrance but it had a very cool vibe. Locals and guests were chatting and watching tv, great drink options, but most of all Teresa was a the star!! Great drinks served and recommended but also great conversations. We felt like family. I’ll be back for sure

Great setting and good food

By LuvIreland |

We were staying at the Best Western right there, so ate lunch here a couple of times. Both times were good. Wait staff is efficient and polite, food delicious. If it is a nice day, the patio is so relaxing to be out on.

Extensive menu plus great view of Shelter Island

By Cindy B |

The service has always been great here. I love dining outdoors when the weather is nice. One of my favorites is the salmon, as well as the Cobb salad. I generally go for lunch and have never needed a reservation.

Good food in the bar, restaurant ok

By Wingflier |

My wife and I ate (and drank) here several times during a recent visit. The bar had an excellent Happy Hour with great bar food including things like Lobster Nachos. We only ate at the restaurant for breakfast. The food was very well done and tasted good but the overall menu was overpriced. For example, a toasted bagel with a fruit cup was over $9. However, it ws good and convenient being located with the Best Western Plus Island Palms hotel.

Yummy!

By KCW |

On a staycation and were so excited to find the hotel food was DELISH! The menu was very diverse and has a lot of non meat options. Loved the mushroom ravioli and fish tacos, amazing orange "chicken" cauliflower (vegetarian) and mouth watering pineapple upside down cake, and the Bloody Mary's were GREAT! We will definitely make this a dining destination and want to check out the live music on the weekends.

Not a good experience

By Stian Jacobsen |

We were promised “wild scrimps from mexico” but the shrimps was frozen and had no taste. Their fresh pesto did not taste pesto. All in all, the food is expensive and taste bad!

Breakfast on the water

By William C |

Inside the Best Western on the island is a cute little bar and grill, The Blue Wave. It is right on the water with a view of the docks (see photo). The food is right up there for breakfast, and I had the celebrated burrito. It was good as advertised.

Marina Staycation Spot for Dining

By Victoria M |

Best place to spend a leisurely late Saturday lunch overlooking the Marina in San Diego. The Seafood Nicoise accompanied by a Blood Mary rimmed with bacon salt hit the spot followed by the sweet finish of a flourless Chocolate Torte was divine. Hugo, our waiter was attentive and pleasant and took note of our Saturday vibe. At no time did we feel rushed . We were able to relax and enjoying the food and the exceptional view of the Marina. It was warm January day and there was not a lot of pool activity to detract with possible noise. The patio can get loud with conversation although the atmosphere, food and service made it feel like a bleep. My guest and I enjoyed ourselves immensely as we rolled out 3 hours later.

Great Food

By G B |

Eight people in our party and all really enjoyed our salads, soups, appetizers and dinners. Try the coconut calamari appetizer. It’s a large serving size and absolutely excellent.

Great place for breakfast

By Granddad Green Go |

I've eaten breakfast here twice while staying at a hotel on Shelter Island. Although the Blue Wave is a little pricey, the selection is very good, the service is excellent, and the food is hot and tasty, with generous portions. It's also a good place for late risers; they serve breakfast until 11 a.m. Nice views too of the adjacent marina.

Sunday brunch

By Walter D |

As tenants of Shelter Island Marina we have the Blue Wave in our backyard. We frequent the Wave and like to have Sunday morning brunch out on the patio. Great view looking out over the marinas with Point Loma as the back drop. I usually go for the corn beef hash, while the wife really likes their quiche. The wait staff are the greatest, always smiling and happy to see you. So if you are in the Shelter Island area and looking for some casual dinning, be it breakfast, lunch or dinner, be sure to try the Blue Wave

Nice view, limited breakfast options...

By Nance5612 |

Laid back venue, comfortable, friendly, nothing to brag about, just OK. Had a late breakfast, 11:35a.m., really wanted lunch, would not bend and serve a little early, they said we could wait. Thought it was a little odd that ordering an omelette, you could choose 3 ingredients, which one was cheese, thought that was a staple...the avocado was served in slices on top of the omelette, not diced inside....

The secret is out…

By Rawks75 |

Amazing customer service and excellent meal! We specifically got the waffle fries and the blue wave burger which did not disappoint for a second year in a row. This is our go to meal when we stay in San Diego. 10 stars for our attentive server Ernest, he made sure we were well taken care of! He is a definite asset to the team. We will be back! :)

Staying at the hotel

By John K |

So I ate here a lot. First, the views from the restaurant and the deck are great. There is the Shelter Island Marina on the west side of the hotel and the Marina is large. So great views and nice ambiance. The thing that this restaurant has is New England Style clam chowder. I am not a fan of New England Style chowder, but this version rocks the house. Lots of clams in the broth, and wonderful crackers. I had it for lunch today. Yesterday, I had a cup of the chowder and the fish tacos. The chowder did not disappoint and the tacos were very tasty. Mahi Mahi tacos, not breaded, but nicely sauced and wrapped in warm corn tortillas with lots of lettuce and veggies. Very nice. So if you are staying here, or near here, stop in for the chowder. A bowl is great for lunch with a cold iced tea. Awesome lunch!

Be careful where you sit for Happy Hour!!!!!

By RobinJ |

We went to the Blue Wave strictly for the Happy Hour Apps., and specifically asked the host if we had to sit in the bar area. He said no and escorted us out to the patio. When we got our bill, we were charged the full price for the apps., instead of $7 each. The waitress also did not let us know we were seated in the wrong area for these specials. Arguing our point with the manager was useless, who was not accommodating at all. Very disappointing that she wouldn't adjust our bill, after all, we were there during the Happy hour time. Otherwise, the apps. were fine.

Lovely place to eat

By jansteve_8 |

We stayed at the Best Western and had breakfast and dinner here most days during our stay. We enjoyed the good choice of breakfast items out on the terrace served by Roberta and Robin who did a great job. We had several dinners in the restaurant and bar we especially enjoyed the roast beef 3 course special. Well worth a visit.

Ok food, Ok service!

By Jessie R |

To be honest the food wasn't great, the salmon Caesar salad was pretty flavorless, the seafood cocktail was really fishy and wasn't fresh. The kobe burger was just ok. Each morning the breakfast service was quite slow, I had to get there at least a half hour early in order to make sure I ate then got my bill. Water service was seriously lacking! I know in California you have to request it but once I do ask for a glass of water I shouldn't have to ask repeatedly or wait over a half hour for the water.

Great breakfast and dinner!

By Muldr4Scly |

We were staying in the Best Western Plus Island Palms Hotel. This restaurant was really convenient. We ate there for breakfast and it was so good that we ended up going back for dinner. It was very tasty. We ate the Butternut Squash and Mushroom Risotto and the Roasted Red Pepper Fettucine. Also for dessert we ate the NY Style Cheesecake and Flourless Chocolate Torte. They were delicious! Service was good. The weather was nice so we could dine outside for dinner. It was a romantic setting.

What a great spot

By Gibbo1969 |

We checked into the attached hotel (oh dear, review to come later) and wanted dinner and a beer and went here. Really friendly waitress and a good range of booze including some great local draft beer. Menu had some great fish dishes on it. I had the market fresh option which was sea bass the wife had the brick chicken. Our food was excellent, the drinks were flowing and we sat outside with a beautiful view of the marina at sunset.

Excellent Service - good food

By AA Mel |

Our party of 10 had breakfast here. We were all very pleased with our portions and food. We also had excellent service.

By FransHeijmans |

We had breakfast as well as diner here in this restaurant and both were very good. Nice and friendly staff and the views are wonderful!

love this place

By Matt |

Food views and service are exceptional. Never let down by this venue. All 3 burgers they offer are awesome as is the squid.

Great food and view

By Georgiagirl65 |

We have had breakfast, lunch and bar snacks here (3 years now) and everything is wonderful. Can't beat the views. Breakfast or drinks outside, looking at the marina, can't be beat. Servers are so personable. Don't miss the blueberry pancakes or French toast at breakfast.

Poor food

By rudy t |

I ordered a ham and cheese omelet. The gave me a ham omelet with 2 slices on cheese on it. Cooking 101 shows you how to make a ham and cheese omelet and this was not it. They charge high prices and give you poor food this is sad because a ham and cheese omelet is easy

Breakfast is very, very good!

By lawrencecyn |

Robin (waitress) is amazing. Although steep in price (it's San Diego), definitely worth it!! Very good food!!!

Good Breakfast!

By brodge |

We stayed at the Best Western hotel with the Blue Wave restaurant located in their lobby. It has a nice view of the hotel pool and the marina. We only had breakfast here and it was very good. Roberto was our server and he was very attentive. I had made a reservation on Open Table and when we arrived, there was no one there to check us in. There was a sign that said Seat Youself. Roberto made note about this, but my Open Table reservation showed "pending" for several days. I went back one day and caught someone who was able to complete the reservation so we could receive a credit on Open Table and not have a Pending notice any longer.

Late lunch

By Joseph L |

We are in San Diego to attend a business conference. Since our room wasn't ready yet, we decided to have lunch on the patio. The views were great. The food took a while to get but was worth the wait. I had a Tuna Poke Bowl and my Lady had fish taco. We both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will likely try the place again since we just got here. Warm regards, Joe L. from Huntington, NY

Breakfast

By M2white |

Our family enjoyed a late breakfast at this restaurant. I really do love the views of the harbor. I was surprised that there wasn’t more staff. However, the food was good. We enjoyed Belgian waffle, French toast, Cali Benedict & continental. The service was slow. However, we left fairly happy.

Happy hour!!

By Kathy C |

We had a great Happy Hour experience. California is an expensive place but the prices and drinks at the Blue Wave were just what we were looking for. We sat at a little bar overlooking all the goings on at the Marina. Fun times!!

Friendly staff and good food

By helgahoffman |

Had breakfast every morning and evening meal one night when staying at Best Western hotel. The restaurant overlooks the marina with seating outdoor on the terrace or indoors. The staff were genuinely very welcoming, service was excellent and food reasonably priced. Enjoyed a conversation we had with Robin about British TV comedies one morning at breakfast. So sorry we didn't get to chat again the morning we left for the UK (I was upset at leaving such a wonderful place).

Nice Little Hotel Restaurant

By MarieH |

Great little restaurant! We ate several breakfasts here while staying at the hotel. The serving staff here was excellent. Our favorite server was Jose who was friendly and accommodating. We had small children in our party, and he was so very helpful!! Highly recommended

Great specials

By David m |

Great restaurant and service. The salmon and halibut were the specials that evening. I had the salmon and it was excellent. I would recommend it. My partner said the halibut was just as good. Service was fast and efficient. great place to eat.

Relaxing time.

By Kareem S |

Found this little piece of heaven, I took my girl here, and amber was our server, she's amazing and took outstanding care of us. We coming back for sure.

Decent Breakfast Option

By HenryJ88 |

Was pleasant my surprised by this place during our recent stay at the hotel. Normally I do not expect much from hotel restaurants, other than being overpriced for what you get. But meals were decent in both quality and value. Their chicken fried steak and eggs was good!

Love the hotel

By Samantha G |

Had an amazing breakfast this morning, we came for a drink last night and Australian Maria is a credit to Best western she is always friendly and always happy to help you. Looking forward to our next visit

Thanksgiving trip

By desro35 |

A very friendly place. Ambiance on the water with lots of boats at the marina. Food was excellent, omelets rule. Bloody Mary not so good and mimosa was great. Definitely recommend.

Great food! Don't hesitate to eat here.

We had dinner at the resturant. It was amazing! One of the best hambergers I have had in a long time. They take pride in the food for sure. My husband had the Koren BBQ Brisket that was totally Yummy ! Breakfast was also good, but I would hope after eating the other foods, they would work harder at hashbrowns. Something home made, and perhaps with fresh peppers and onions? Thanks for great service and food!

Excellent breakfasts, good for dinner too.

By mousemommy |

We stayed in the Best Western Island Palms hotel and this is the restaurant inside the hotel. The breakfasts are very good and reasonably priced. Everything came out hot and delicious. We also ordered to-go breakfast items for the late-waker-uppers in our room and they enjoyed the food too. We also are here twice for dinner. Most of the items were excellent and the service was good. If we stay in this hotel again we will be back!

expensive but excellent

By caltravelgal |

Nice service at this waterfront restaurant at Island Palms hotel. Delicious and filling food, costly but worth it.

Reasonably priced good food

By Mustwe |

Sit outdoors of course..it is San Diego after all. We enjoyed Avocado Toast and good coffee served by friendly and efficient staff.

Waiting for our Hotel Room

By Frances C |

Had to order the lobster nachos and the kitchen did some deep fried prawns for my husband. (although not on the menu). Nacho chips were a bit tough, but I boxed up half the order for a second meal. Overall the place seems a bit disconnected. I would try again on our return.

Great food and service

By dm670 |

We stayed at this hotel, and so glad they had dining onsite. The food here was so good, many different items to chose from and a nice patio as well. Great happy hour and apps too.

Good food and excellent service!

By Bruce G |

We don’t normally visit grills inside hotels, but had to wait for our room and decided to stop in. We had happy hour drinks and quick snacks, calamari, sandwiches. Everything was good and the staff even gave us some very good recommendations. We also went back for breakfast and that also was good. Wife was really impressed, so that’s saying something.

Great food and views for a lovely anniversary

By Robert v |

I used to teach computer classes here back in the '80s and enjoyed the restaurant with singing waiters. We came back today for lunch to celebrate our 35th anniversary. The restaurant is in a new location, with an even better view now. We had a savory tomato bisque, crab cakes, onion rings, a luscious tuna sandwich, and champagne. Both service and food were very good.

Patio dining is open!

By _kathietaylor730 |

We weren't sure the restaurant would be open because of COVID, but were happy to find that they had outdoor patio dining available. While staying at the hotel, we had breakfast at the Blue Wave twice and enjoyed it both times. The menu is limited for breakfast with $10 choices, $15 choices, and sides. The food and service was very good, but the view of the marina and the Point Loma hills is fantastic!

Delicious!

By Tara A |

We ate there for dinner and really enjoyed the steak and gruyere mac and cheese with shrimp added. We like it so well that we went there again the next night! Beautiful location looking out over the marina. Propane heaters on the patio were appreciated and kept us very comfortable after the sun set.

Bad breakfast service

By Georgiagirl65 |

We ate breakfast outside and the food and view were really good. The service, however, was horrible. Had to ask 2-3 times for anything we needed. My husband finally had to go inside to the bar to request syrup. No coffee refill was offered until we again went in and asked. No one ever checked in to see if we needed anything. Not sure if we just got a bad server or if others had a similar experience.

Breakfast was there best meal.

By 996kirk |

Ate here 3 time during my stay. All of the meals were very good and the service was excellent. But by far the Breakfast was their best.

Perfect spot for dinner right on site!

By klwilson007 |

We went to the bar in the afternoon and returned for dinner! We really had no reason to jump in the car and go anywhere else!

Great Marina Views!

By alan a |

Great Marina location. Cozy and friendly ambiance. Generous cocktails----lots of screens--popular with the Marina patrons.

Friendly Bartender

By 1Longhorns |

I walked in and asked the bartender if I could order to go. She said sure! I ordered the fish and chips and it didn't take too long and she had it bagged up and ready to go. Their were only two pieces of fish but they were huge. The fish was very good and the fries were just as good.

Great Place, Greta View

By mmsmithtravels |

Great View, Fixed price menu options from 8.99 to 13.99. Great Meal. Good Happy hour. If you are staying at the Island Palms go here.

A plus for hotel guests

By bdib |

Restaurant is located at the Best Western Island Palms which is perfect when you arrive late at your hotel and don't want to search for a place to eat. Large windows and outside deck overlook marina. Burgers were good, pozole taco-not a favorite and cup of clam chowder delicious. That and 3 sodas $69. Pricey but thankful it was there.

Great location and food

By Gian Rocco |

The food and ambience at Blue Wave is excellent epsixallt if you are staying at the BW. My only complaint is the portions are very small for the pricing. Service is also very good. The manager is especially good.

Great Things coming...

Just hanging out going for a walk and stopped by Island Palms Hotel and we went in, Everything was good from Libations to Happy Hour food Not Bad...VERY GOOD !!!

Very Good Food with a View

By jcstich |

While waiting to check in to our hotel room my wife and I thought we would have a little something for lunch because we had dinner reservations in about four hours. The Blue Wave Bar and Grill is inside the hotel and we stopped in to check them out. Their lunch menu had a decent variety of interesting items. You could sit indoors or out and overlook the marina. My wife ordered a chicken flatbread and I ordered a lettuce wedge salad both of which we split. Both of them were very good and really hit the spot. Prices were in line with similar establishments. Service was friendly and reasonable efficient. Neither of us has any reason to not return here if we are again in the area.

Lobster nachos

By smg1021 |

The food was great, the dinner was so good I had seconds. The wait staff went out of there way for me and I really do appreciate!!

Enjoyed the atmosphere and food

By sallye53 |

We enjoyed the Blue Wave Lounge while staying at the hotel. We took advantage of their happy hour offerings and were pleased with the food and atmosphere. I enjoyed the chicken tacos (which are only available between 4pm-7pm) and my husband had the breaded clam strips which is on the "regular" lounge menu and he says they were very good. The atmosphere was pleasant and you had great views. We also had lunch at the "regular" restaurant the next day and that was also enjoyable. They have complete menu information (and a $5 off coupon) on their website which is very handy to have available.

Breakfast & dinner

By mrsbaz2016 |

While staying at the BW Island Palms we ate all our meals here. We were never disappointed, though they ran out of my first choice for dinner. Blue Wave also has a good happy hour. Will definitely come back.

Love the menu and the staff!

By Linda F |

This restaurant has another couple of locations, that I am aware of, but acts like it is a single proprietor taking care of business. The food is delicious and the service has always been great. I love the sour dough bread that is more like San Francisco's than even Fish Market. Also, other favorite dishes - muscles, wedge salad, and the Ice-cream Pie. My husband likes their grilled fish and can get all without sodium as he is on a low sodium diet. The location we go more frequently is Carlsbad, but love to take out of town guests to Coronado located in the old Del boat house. It is good food, and location-location-location!

GREAT for LUNCH!

By boxingpam |

Many hotels do not have a good restaurant open for lunch. This one is not only open for lunch but has a great view whether you sit inside or out. I am a local and bring friends her for lunch and they are always surprised it is here!

Birthday dinner

By leanna w |

Excellent service. Food was very good. The maitai were so good. Great view of the marina. Would recommend if ypu are visiting San Diego. We were doing a staycation.

Great views, food so-so...

By Ciaogirl64 |

We've been coming to the Island Palms for years, and have dined at the Blue Wave many times. The marina views from both the bar and restaurant are great, and the service is always good. I have to say, though, the food used to be better a few years ago. Not that it is terrible now, but it could be better. As an example, I had a shrimp pasta dish for dinner; sauce was good, but the shrimp were way overcooked. A few tweaks and I'm sure it will be good again. Still enjoy the place and will return.

Great spot for Pre- concert dinner

By Sofia v |

We all had their fixed price dinner and each of us chose a different meal,Sea bass, beef short ribs, and chicken plus an appetizer and dessert. We were all very pleased with our meals. Pleasant atmosphere with great views. The service started out slow but once more staff came the service was good. We will be back

Good food and nice service

By Susanne T |

We stayed at the hotel and went for dinner; it was not very busy, so we were seated immediately and Hugo took good care of us. I had the Blue Wave Burger, which was excellent, hubby had the Fish and Chips, which were good. The beer selection was very nice too.

Great reasonably priced meals

By GrandmaM59 |

Overlooking a yacht harbor and inside a Best Western motel, this venue has great meals at reasonable prices (for the area). We were pleasantly surprised by the great service and good quality of the food. Dined once each breakfast, lunch and dinner. All good. We would repeat our stay just because of this restaurant.

Service subpar

By kiwi4532 |

We decided to start our week long vacation eating at this restaurant. As the sign at the entrance instructed us, we sat ourselves. Then we waited. Ten minutes later we were given menus. We waited again and finally we were served water, we told the server we were ready to order. He walked off and didn't come back. We waited again for at least ten minutes before another server came over to take our order. Apparently, the first man wasn't actually a waiter. We ordered a bottle of wine and our dinners. Then we waited. Twenty minutes later, my husband finally got up and got the attention of the bartender (the only staff we could find). He walked over and gave us menus. We informed him we had already ordered but would like our wine. Thankfully he immediately brought it out for us. We watched the table across from us get there second basket of rolls. Even after all this time, no one bothered to bring us any. My husband got up again and asked for rolls. Another server brought them out. A few minutes later we received our meals and were told dessert would be complementary. I wish at least the food had been fantastic. At around $30 a plate I expect exceptional dishes. My seafood risotto was bland and watery. Risotto should be creamy. The scallops in it were good but the shrimp were overcooked. My husband said his Chippino was okay and my daughter liked her steak. While we ate we watched another family sit down and wait for someone to acknowledge them then finally get up and leave. We also observed another family come in with children and be offered the bar menu items like burgers and fish and chips. I wish someone had done the same so my daughter could have had a burger instead of a $30 steak. Overall, this was a disappointing experience and we will not be eating here again during our stay.

shrimp pesto

By rondish |

Ordered the shrimp pesto and it was the best I every had. 8 huge shrimp, creamy pesto sauce and priced very reasonably. Service was good. We do not usually eat in hotel restaurants, but this one was a very pleasant experience. Way above average! They also have a fantastic happy hour.

Friendly and Fun!

By Mary B |

Five star service and friendliness. Teresa is the absolute best! She remembered my name after me being here only once before, 4 months ago. That's impressive! She's fast, friendly, fun and makes you feel right at home. Food was good, bar atmosphere was great!! Highly recommend!

Yummy

By Joan W |

Had a couple of meals while staying at the hotel. Great tuna sandwich - big enough to share. Blueberry pancakes were good and the quiche of the day (crab and leek) was delicious!

Delicious Breakfast and Dinner

By conscom |

We arrived in the very late afternoon to this somewhat remotely located Island Palms Hotel. So we decided to have dinner in the hotel's only restaurant, the Blue Wave Bar & Grill. We certainly were not disappointed with our orders. I had the Sea Bass entree cooked to perfection and my partner ordered the beef vegetable soup and the grilled asparagus. Our server was very pleasant and attentive to our needs. There's three choices of seating, at the bar which has a glassed wall to block the TV sound, the dining area or the outdoor patio overlooking the pool area and marina. We also chose to have our breakfasts there and again generous portions and prepared well. The $9.95 breakfast was very filling with large slice of Quiche and three slices of French Toast smothered with fruit and whipped cream. Our servers were helpful and courteous. The sun and view of the marina was an added bonus.

Friendly Bartender

By Luis R |

Spent the last few days here for a conference and and will admit that the service I received from Teresa and the other staff was fantastic, she was very attentive and always looking to make sure I had everything I needed. Without hesitation I would recommend you visit the Blue Wave and say hi to Teresa their fantastic bartender!

A Welcoming Blue Wave

By H D |

The Blue Wave at the BW Island Palms Resort has served my partner and I as guests of the attached hotel the past three years. Each visit, the Blue Wave has featured delicious food served efficiently by the friendly wait staff. On our recent stay, we dined there more at dinner time and were pleased with the taste and preparation of the entrées. Especially impressive were the salmon wellington, harvest salad, and the burger. The most memorable aspect of our visits, however, was Maria, the gracious and welcoming hostess. She has gone above and beyond the past three years and her efforts at making us feel at home at the Blue Wave were the primary reason we patronized the restaurant so extensively. It reflects well on both management and the entire staff when a person of her caliber is given the responsibility to provide the initial contact to a restaurant. As a result, we will be returning to the Blue Wave on future visits.

Party of 12

By tingramm |

We reserved two suites this last weekend for a small family gathering to remember and honor my uncle that passed away unexpectedly this time last year. Before we checked out on Sunday, we decided to meet for breakfast at 8am at the Blue Wave Bar & Grill (hotel restaurant). The restaurant staff quickly set-up a table for 12 people in the private dining room just off the side of the restaurant. Our servers were extremely attentive and the food was delicious. Our coffee cups stayed full the entire time and the food came out impressively quick. Thank you to the Blue Wave Bar & Grill team for helping us end the weekend on such a pleasant note.

Very enjoyable dining experience with fantastic views of the marina

By Bandonman |

Great place for locals and tourists alike. The seafood was fresh and well seasoned and the service met expectations. Get a table outside on the deck to enjoy the sea breeze with a beverage and a fine meal.

Great view with outdoor patio

By mike f |

Awesome service and the food was great. There were some very reasonable entrees and even a good wine selection.

Loved it!

By meandmydiscovan |

Lobster mac and cheese, and the fish and chips were both fantastic! The patio seating was nice and the prices were very reasonable for a lunch menu ($12-$15)

Expensive for the quality

By Carla B |

Breakfast, was very expensive for the quality. Had to find waitress to get coffee, then had to ask kitchen staff for check because we couldn't find the waitress, again.

Loud bar noise

By DdotSG |

This restaurant shares airspace with the bar/lounge. Noise and conversations from the bar/lounge kill the quiet atmosphere of the restaurant if you are sitting inside. Food was average at best, very disappointed in the kids menu selection of Macaroni. Its just cooked off the shelf boxed macaroni. Beef had a reheated cook and texture.

See you there food

By Rick B |

A lovely surprise to find an excellent bar and grill at the Best Western Plus Palm at Shelter Island, San Diego. The atmosphere is quiet and friendly, the staff was awesome with plenty of recommendations. Seating is open and everyone seems to be comfortable in their own little world with a nice harbor view. I ordered the scallops and they were perfectly cooked and presented. I would highly recommend pairing them with the bacon spinach salad, which was amazing too. A nice little hide-away with good times. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Great bar service

By Morgan R |

The bartender Tarissa was so on point! I live in the neighborhood and it’s hard to find the kind of service she gives at the Blue Wave! Will go again!

Decent, convenient, a little expensive

By GMSnRAS |

Stayed at the Palms hotel and had breakfast daily as well as dinner a few nights. The outdoor area is lovely. Service was always good. Food was decent. Some meals better than others. It was slightly expensive but I guess it's what you can expect at a hotel restaurant in San Diego! Would go there again.

Convenient

By halilley |

We were staying at this Best Western Plus Island Palms and Marina, we ate here three evenings. If you are coming only for a meal park in the road or the car park opposite both are free. If you park in the grounds I assume you will be charged $10-00 as does anybody staying at he hotel. The Happy Hour from 16-00 - 19-00 in the Bar does not extend to the restaurant next door. The food is good, the drinks expensive, the service average. We found the menu somewhat limited and ate elsewhere for the remainder of our stay. The only deal is the three course menu for $30 when Humphreys, nearer the access roundabout, is having a concert

GREAT HAPPY HOUR TREATS

By Melanie D |

stayed at this hotel for a week and used the Blue Wave bar and grill several times .Breakfast was good and they were very flexible - swapping items for no extra charge . Excellent albacore sandwich Get there for happy hour to enjoy very reasonable drinks and also really cheap but tasty snacks

Pleasant Surprise

By laurenmS2867LI |

We ate here for dinner and breakfast. We enjoyed the views of the marina and pool. Our wait staff was excellent on both occasions! We enjoyed our dinner, pork chop for him, steak for me. Breakfast was great as well, the waitress suggested places to see. We sat at the bar as well and the bar tended was friendly . We were there in the middle of the week

Delicious food, outstanding service, and gorgeous view!

By CDV1125 |

Delicious food – – soup and salad… Sat outside overlooking the bay and the service was exquisite. It’s the day before my birthday and I’m so happy. They surprised me with a special dessert. Stacy, our server was fantastic.

Nice location

By hughwho |

I had breakfast here, it was pretty much what you would expect from most hotel restaurants. The food was decent and the staff was helpful. If staying at this hotel I would eat here again out of convenience.

Great breakfast

By Bryan F |

I had breakfast here two times during my visit. Both of the meals were good. I had the vegetable frittata, and it was fantastic. The other meal was bacon and eggs, and it was also very tasty. I only had breakfast, so I can't comment on lunch or dinner. I would eat here again without a problem

Best Western Hotel Onsite Restaurant

By brodge |

The Blue Wave Bar & Grill located at the Best Western Island Palms hotel on Shelter Island is very good. It's in a nice setting next to the hotel pool and the marina. There is a bar area and also both indoor and outdoor seating available. Food is good! The hostess Dee Dee was fun and helpful!

Nice breakfast

By twysted2015 |

Excellent hotel restaurant. Crab eggs Benny and short rib breakfasts came out prepared well except eggs were done incorrectly. Overall very nice. Good service and 8 minute ticket times on the deck overlooking the marina. Price points are high

Average hotel restaurant, but by a marina...

By Blackbirdguy |

We stayed four nights at the hotel attached and had a couple of breakfasts and one dinner here. Pasta dinners were good. Breakfast features a one price menu for various cooked items such as omelletes, scrambles and the like. The breakfasts were huge and excellent value. Service was adequate. One server needed a bit of a refresh on taking an interest in customers and making them feel valued. As with any waterside restaurant the interest is always drawn to the millions of dollars of vessels and associated activities nearby.

The people are kind and the food is very good

By Lisa P |

Definitely have the fish and chips - it came highly recommended by the wait staff for good reason! And the wait staff was courteous and helpful. Great view as well! Lovely to sit outside overlooking the pool and the marina!

Overview of 16 day stay at the Palms.

By Eddie T |

On the whole service was good and the food on all levels Brunch, breakfast and evening meals we tried the ones we liked. All were fine, however the Breakfast one to us was the best and most consistent. We had three choices for each course on the Christmas dinner, bar the turkey main course, which three of us had,it was fine. However the turkey course was not enjoyed by any of us. Why I really cannot answer, bland maybe. Having eaten turkey menus worldwide in the forces, Jungle, desert etc, this one failed the test. I would suggest a review of the turkey menu. However overall,we enjoyed our stay and the staff were great.

Delicious Food & Good Drinks

By jamie_sue_12 |

During our recent stay at Best Western Plus Island Palms & Marina, we had breakfasts, drinks & late-night snacks at the onsite bar & grill. Everyone enjoyed breakfast. The coffee was not wonderful, but I tend to be a coffee snob. Everyone also enjoyed their drinks. I didn't like my Cosmo so much but there's also a great wine selection and full bar. Our last night, we had some late-night snacks for a group of us. Everything was prepared well and delicious. We all enjoyed it. There's also a deck out back overlooking the marina that is a really nice place to relax.

A nice surprise before a sail

By Jack S |

We were looking to grab a quick bite before getting on a sailing tour right next door (Sail San Diego, a MUST do). We were ain a slight crunch, timing wise, and our server (also the bartender) mad sure we got to eat on time. She even suggested beers from a decent selection, and insisted I got the fish-n-chips after a little indecision on my part. I'm glad I did. This is a great spot, especially for a hotel bar/restaurant in a Best Western(!). You could tell locals hung out there for lunch, as they were discussing tours they were organizing on their boats. Quote of the day..."I came to San Diego to be a fisherman. Now I am sailing with a bridal shower."

Live music in beautiful setting

By Nadoan |

Went for dinner on a Saturday evening. Sat in the main restaurant overlooking marina in order to hear musician James Gossett who was playing. Food and service both good. Had fresh fish and pasta dish. What made the evening for us was listening to James Gossett singing and playing guitar. He was fantabulous! Try to make it when he is playing…you won’t regret it. No cover charge and easy free parking too.
