Quaint Italian restaurant with amazing food!

By Oregonguy2018 |

You might drive right past this place never imagining the consistently delicious food they serve. Their weekend 5 course prix fixe dinner is one of the best values in Portland. Simple decor with a friendly staff.

Quaint and Delicious

You have probably driven by this place and never stopped.... but now you have to! Such friendly warm people- Anthony was wonderful! The food was fabulous. My husband had the lasagna- which was huge! I had the stuffed chicken greasy that was super yummy. We were too full for dessert but they looked really good. Super quaint, casual joint with great food!

Well, I have been driving by this hidden treasure in plain site for years. Top notch Italian. The meatballs were gone before I could take a photo, as was the antipasto salad. The waiter brought ceasar salad for all and kept bread on the table the whole time we were eating. We were there at 5pm on Saturday and it was already starting to fill. The chicken marsala, the salmon ravioli and the shrimp linguini were excellent... if I understand the menu, they only have two pizzas and two calzones. For pizza, Margarita and Combo. I brought a combo home for my son. Thin crust, spot on. I need to return to try a handful of specialties. Looking forward to that.

Our Go-To PDX Favorite

By sanyaPortland_OR |

My family and I have eaten there on several occasions, both for lunch and dinner, over the last few years. Every meal is a delight. The food consistently boasts a unique flair: home-made flavor, everything from the minestrone soup, to the panna cotta dessert, prepared and served with care. The prix fixe dinner combos are all winners, in my book. And I've taken my ninety-two year old step dad there for lunch countless times. The small, intimate atmosphere makes it an comfortable and special outing for him, always. Not to forget the family group dinners we enjoy at Bocci's when the children/grandchildren are in town- we always feel pampered as if we are part of the Bocci clan. If you want a simple, cozy setting and excellent food, skip those loud warehouse-style places and head to Bocci's on 7th.

Hidden jewel

By tonijpedersen |

Old fashion neighborhood feel. Small, cozy and somewhat intimate with an eclectic atmosphere. The food was fresh and very good, the prices were quite reasonable. We are well traveled people in our late 70s and this little spot is a find

Really loved the pizza!! Great dining experience

By DanielLogan |

This is a small Portland establishment that serves authentic hearty portions of Italian cuisine. My partner and I spontaneously opted to come here for dinner and man we were very impressed! Service was spot on, and while prices are not low, they are not significantly higher than the average in town. When walking in I spotted a fine looking pizza asked what it was and ended up ordering it - the Bocci Pizza - and what a delight it was!! The crust was thin, scrumptious down to the last bite. The lasagna was a nice happy portion and was also fantastic!

The neighborhood resto without a neighborhood

I've described Bocci's on 7th this way to several friends since eating there - it was a lucky find when looking for an early New Year's Eve dinner place. The lasagna is a strong recommendation though I'm going to try several of the other usual suspects over my next few visits as there are several dishes that I think I'll like, too. I recommend the prix fixe menu (but lobster bisque isn't a favorite of mine) for the encouragement it gives to eat more of their tasty food.

A gem of a find....

We love this small, classy, Italian restaurant! It's in a quiet section of the Hawthorne District, offers live music and a relaxing setting and decor. The staff is very friendly and generous--they really want to facilitate their guests relaxing and enjoying their time there! The food is marvelous, second to none of the fine Italian restaurants in Portland. The focaccia is particularly great, served steaming hot with oil and balsamic. Highly Recommended!

WHAT A FIND!!! This establishment is FANTASTIC!!!

Don't miss this wonderful restaurant! Anthony's kind and delightful service along with David's masterful artistry in the kitchen are an unbeatable combination... if you are tired of all of those Calamari Appetizer dishes being served covered in batter and deep fried to oblivion served naked with a unappealing sauce THEN come here now! don't walk, run and enjoy lightly battered lovingly prepared saute'd delectable morsels of goodness served on a beautiful bed of mixed greens snuggled up to a dipping sauce straight from heaven! Do you like soup? Wow... if you can imagine what soup is supposed to taste like... that vegetable soup should have vegetables in it, that Mexican style tortilla soup should be lively, interesting but not too spicy... you have got to go there! My wife and I live in east Vancouver and now will consider this wonderful place our "go to" destination for great food, awesome value and wonderful people! High fives all around!

First Time Customers AND We Will be BACK!!!!

By Heather E |

We we were looking for a quaint and interesting Italian restaurant to have a small farewell party and spotted the reviews for Bocci's. It seemed to have all the characteristics that we were looking for... "a hidden gem" ...it sounded perfect for us. I can heartily agree that it is a "Hidden Gem". We loved the food, incredible service, and the intimacy of the setting. There will be definite return visits to this charming restaurant. I had a small caesar salad, the chicken parmigiana, and for dessert a mouth watering amaretto mousse cake. The portions were large and tasty. The others in the party were all equally pleased with their dinners. Prices were moderate and for the quality of the dinner...this was an amazing bargain. Kudos to Bocci's who made our dinner "deliciously" successful.

Great Find

By TASS14 |

Lovely family owned Italian restaurant serving fabulous food in an intimate and comforting atmosphere. The night we visited (11/4/2017) they were packed and not accepting walk ins. I did not get the name of our waitress but as understaffed as they were that night, she was upbeat and she took good care of us. Everything on the menu sounded great and watching the food come out of the kitchen made it very difficult to order because every item looked so delicious. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed every bite of our food! If you like good Italian food, you need to head to Bocci's.

Pretty good

By Amy V |

We got the fried mozzarella which was very tasted and my chicken fettucine was not heavily sauced which I did enjoy, but it didn't seem like authentic italian. The server was friendly. However we felt like we were waiting a bit too long for our food.

Excellent food and service

By gary c |

My wife and I visited Bocci's for the first time this evening. This is a quaint restaurant on the east side of Portland. The menu had a wide variety of options including a steak that was well prepared and a sauce that was perfectly matched. Prices were very reasonable and the service was prompt and well executed. We will definitely be back.

Chicken No Go; Calzone Go

By RonandNichole |

A quaint little italian restaurant found on the east side with outdoor and indoor seating. The waiter was friendly, patient and remembered our friends who were returning customers and highly recommended this place. Nichole ordered a dish that consisted of chicken and steamed vegetables, but there were only three pieces of asparagus on the plate and a small piece of sour chicken that was very overpriced. Ron ordered a freshly baked to order calzone that was delicious and he had no complaints. If your wondering, it was worth the wait. The reason for the average review was due to the pricing and quantity especially of the chicken entree. If you decide to come get a calzone it'll be worth it.

Giving this restaurant it's flowers....... so good!!!

After taking the Portland City Cruise, we were looking for some great food, on our last night in town. After checking online, I came up with this place, as an option, because it was open late. A lot of restaurants, seem to close early, near the downtown area. I was happy to find a restaurant, that stayed open late. It said they were open until 1:00 am. When we got there, it was around 10:30 PM, and we were nicely greeted. The place is small and cozy, with colored mood lighting, at night. Definitely an intimate, and relaxing dining experience. They also had a big, area in the back, that had tables to eat outside. One of the owners, explained to us the menu and options, we were thinking about trying. I was amazed at the prices, as they were very decent. We wanted to try a bit of everything, so we ordered more than we could eat, in one sitting. We tried the chicken parmigiana, lasagna, mushroom raviolis, spaghetti with bolognese sauce, and chicken alfredo. The meal was brought to the table, with a complimentary side of house-made ciabatta bread, served with olive oil & balsamic, for dipping. That bread was amazing! I used it to scrape up any bit of sauce, left behind. When there was no more sauce, to be sopped up, I ate it by itself. We were so surprised, when we found Squirt soda, on the menu. We love Squirt soda, and never see it on any restaurant menus. Let me just say, that whole meal was FIRE! Everything tasted so fresh, and flavorful. You could taste the fresh cream, used to make the alfredo & mushroom ravioli sauce, and alfredo. The owner was so sweet, as he knew how much I liked the bread, so he gave me a loaf to go, on the house. We weren't able to eat all of the food, so it got packed up, and we took it back to the hotel with us. Let me give you an idea, of how good the food was to us. The next day, was our last day in Portland. We checked out of the hotel, around noon. We had to putter around, until we had to go to the airport, about 6:00pm. We literally, had carried the food around with us all day, and a plane ride back home. There was NO WAY, I was throwing that food away. I put it in the fridge, when we made it back to our hometown, and prayed that it would be still good ,(and good for my stomach), when I reheated it. I happily reheated the food, as if we hadn't let it sit out for hours. (Not recommended to eat food that hasn't been refrigerated for hours. I'm crazy like that, and have a stomach of rocks.) That food was still FIRE, and we tore it up! lol That's how good that food was to us. lol Such a nice spot to eat, with amazing food, and great people working there. This will always be the first restaurant I eat at, when visiting Portland. Peace, Love & Pasta! The Squirt Soda lovers, have spoken.

Holy Heck Italian

By TIE T |

Bocci's is open....it's small and limits the # of ppl, so dont be afraid! Go EAT! I am Italian, have eaten meals in Italy and make my own recipes....and i was thrilled. Calamari (holy heck marinara!), lasagna, meatballs that melted in your mouth, and deconstructed tiramisu...with Prosecco. Their lasagna is a large helping, from the traditional recipe of many noodles, sausage gravy (sauce) cheese and herbs. You wont finish it. The staff was incredibly friendly and fun. We sat just across from the kitchen (I personally recommend) so we got to see every piping hot plate the chef prepared. That was almost as much fun as our own orders. They have a small patio but it wasnt open for seating due to the weather. Hoping they get some heaters as I would LOVE to eat a super hot delicious dish during a chilly Portland night. Many more dishes to try and we will be back!

Great place great food, terrific staff.

By Michael B |

We have our company dinners here and they are great, very clean and friendly. The waiter did not use an order pad to take our 10 orders and got them all right. We will be back again.

New Year's Eve to perfection

By Mick Piper |

Four of us went for dinner, and it exceeded expectations. The place is both rustic and charming. The attitude and attentiveness of the staff were professional, warm, and welcoming. And the food did not disappoint either. Wide range of options, fairly priced, delivered pipiing hot, and plated perfectly. Lots of options in Portland, this should be on your list.

Part of the Community

By vanport |

Enjoyed lunch at Bocci's again yesterday. I like to stop there when I am in town on business. The service is very personable, the specials are creative and it is on the east side of town not far off of MLK Street and south of Hawthorne. I grew up in SE Portland, and it is nice to see this quaint restaurant continue to be a part of the community. The steak and cheese sandwich was served toasted and hot with au jus for dipping, which made a nice combination. The salad was a blend of fresh greens and blue cheese. The coffee is rich and flavorful.

Very good dinner

By InsideScooper |

Bocci's is a small, modest restaurant with good food and service. Of our three entrees, the crab ravioli with pesto sauce was our favorite. The chicken piccata was good, too, although it was a little on the small side and could have used more sauce. Spaghetti and meatballs had a very tasty tomato sauce. Starter salads were good. Caprese salad was generously sized with nice balsamic vinegar. Caesar salad was good but had a little too much dressing. Service was quick, although we arrived on the early side before the restaurant became very busy. It did fill up on the Saturday night we were there. Decor is plain but neat with simple wood booths. If you are looking for good Italian food at reasonable prices in a simple, casual atmosphere, I think you will be happy with Bocci's.

Very Good Italian Restaurant

By Bourlingueur |

We met friends at Bocci’s for dinner the other night. It is a small Italian Restaurant. We had the Baked Cod, Eggplant Parmesan, Chicken Parmesan, and the antipasto platter. It was all very good.

Maybe it’s better when they are busier.

By Corban R |

Place feels a little hole-in-the -wall, which I typically like. In this case we made a reservation as we had a show to get to. Despite the reservation, it still took 10 min for the servers to even realize we were there (no host on duty); we had to ask to place drink orders, ask to place food orders, and after 30 min or so, ask for the food to be delivered, and you guessed it, asked for the check to be processed and asked for the Payments run. There was only 2 other tables of guests in the whole place, I believe it was a syndrome of being slow, the server just forgot about us. Food was ok, a bit cold, and definitely too expensive for the quality.

Who knew?

By Larryandtoniya |

I have to admit, I’ve been driving by this place for years & never once thought about going in until an event necessitated finding a restaurant in this specific area of town. Another bonus was free street parking. So glad! The place truly doesn’t look like much from the outside, however once you walked through the doors & smell what’s cooking, it’s okay that it isn’t a hipster spot. I went with 3 friends and we were all just flabbergasted at the quality & service! For example; 3 of us ordered the set price offering~ starter, main & dessert for $20!!!! There were several choices in each category so we all had something different and 1 friend ordered from the regular menu. None of us were disappointed. I stared with antipasto, then wild mushroom ravioli ending with one of the lightest pan a cotta I’ve ever tasted. The lasagne portion looked like it could feed an army (yes, she asked for a box to take it home). Same for the pasta portion another friend ordered. You won’t leave hungry. The other unexpected, but much appreciated surprise, was our server. He was a hoot & holler. There were 4 middle aged women sitting together & gabbing & this sweet soul just took it all in stride~ we never felt rushed to order. He was funny & engaging without being cloying. Overall this was a great find when you want good solid comfort food without having to pay a king’s ransom/

A Lucky Find

By GARunner_11 |

We were walking around Portland and were hungry. While trying to decide where to eat, we came upon Bocci's on 7th and walked in. The throwback decor matched the old fashioned Italian dishes I really like. The service was attentive and professional. The individually prepared food came out piping hot and delicious. Rhe complimentary cookies added to the warm family-feel of the restaurant.

Delightful

I live in Portland and this is my favorite restaurant. Anything they do with chicken is amazing. Healthy options available plus old favorites. Nice wine and always good service.

Great Food at Great Prices

By bethmcshane |

I really love Bocci's.... great pastas, calzones, fresh soups and just NICE people work there. My husband and I go in for lunch, but we particularly love the $18 prix fix weekend menu. They serve 5 or more courses for only $18!! It's not the fanciest restaurant in Portland, and it has more of a hole in the wall atmosphere, but that's not why I go there. I go there for consistently good Italian food. Try the all meat/all cheese Calzone....and the homemade lasagna is always money!

"Warm Atmosphere and Fabulous Food"

By locramont_13 |

This is a great family restaurant with a great variety of entrees. The pasta is delicious and the cream sauce on the crab ravioli is outstanding. I have a very "picky" family and everyone agrees this is a favorite. We have eaten here twice and plan to return on a regular basis.

An excellent restauraunt, despite its appearance

By Citizenportland |

A rather unassuming building in a rather unassuming neighborhood, but don't let the looks deceive you. The food is excellent, the staff is friendly, and the prices are low. What's not to like? I plan to return often.

Music is way to loud.

By jb |

The pasta dishes were good - as expected. I had wild mushroom ravioli with Marina sauce (OK). Small amount so no leftovers. Portions are adequate (some people had orders that allowed them to take left overs). The 2 stars is mostly because of the unimaginable loud music. I've been in restaurants before that had loud music but nothing compares to this. We had a large group seated across from the bar and cashier. The previous year, thankfully, they turned the music down somewhat so we could hear. This year, the music was so loud that it was impossible to hear anything. We could only have a conversation with a person seated next to us. I heard that this is by design in some restaurants to get people to leave. Maybe that's true for them. The previous year, they told us as we were ending our meal, that they were going to turn the music up for the younger, later crowd. I just don't get it. It was so unpleasant, we/I would never, ever go back. Too bad --we are a good Portland "eating out" base.

If you want Outstanding Italian Food - You Must Go Here

By SmanLex |

If you are looking for atmosphere or surroundings go elsewhere. You go to Bocci's for the food. Completely authentic and wonderful. Good portions and great food. What else could you want. Caution: make reservations this is a small place and it fills quickly.

wonderful neighborhood Italian restaurat

By Michael R |

I'd been driving past this tiny unobtrusive place for years and we finally decided to stop in for an early dinner on the way home from work on a Wednesday evening. The staff was welcoming, efficient and very friendly, the room was small with booths, sort of homey feeling, and quiet enough for conversation. The food was very good -- the Bolognese was especially satisfying -- clearly made by someone who knows what he's doing with it -- as were the meatballs and marinara. (They have gluten free pasta options). I was very pleasantly surprised and will definitely return. Note, the Wednesday and Thursday night special is a three-course dinner -- starter, entree, dessert -- for $20; given the quality of the food, the generosity of the portions and warmth of the room and the staff, quite the bargain.

delicious and friendly staff

By travelprof57 |

We were walking to a concert venue and came upon this little restaurant. We opted for the Prix Fixe menu and really enjoyed it. We enjoyed the whole meal but the salad and the ravioli appetizer were particularly good. We were in a rush so they boxed up our dessert for us and we enjoyed it later. Everyone who worked there was very nice and helpful. If we ever get to come back to Portland, we'll certainly eat here again.

Delicious old school Italian

By Stew M |

we decided to try somewhere we hadn't been to and it got some good reviews. We ordered the Lasagna, the chicken fettuccine and the chicken scaloppini. All were so fresh with big portions and delicious. This is a classic, old school Italian place. Not fancy, but a great find that we will be back for. Even the focaccia came as a huge loaf with sun dried tomatoes and olives.
