Perfect place to eat and hang out a while

By H. Dixon |

Saw this spot on the way to the Japanese Tea gardens in San Antonio. The interior is an eclectic mix of good ole pub and artsy memorabilia. Great food, good drinks. Friendly staff. A must visit.

Wonderful Food!

By 281cynthiam |

We weren't sure about eating here but it was highly recommended by a local. We're glad we stopped! The interior is very unique with lots to look at. Seating is very original. The food was fantastic! We enjoyed the sandwiches we ordered and the "house" chips are the greatest! The staff was very friendly and attentive.

Great atmosphere, server and food

By psurn1 |

I had not been to San Antonio in quite sometime, but this was a favorite in the past...and is again! Great menu, cold beer, magnificent server and charming eclectic decor. Was thrilled to be there again!

Charming and funky!

By Sandy H |

I had dinner with my family here and it's pretty much the same it was 18 years ago...a little has changed but not much. It's still funky and charming. The menu has changed and they removed some of my favorite dishes...like the shish-ka-bob.

Good bar food

By Aggie1994 |

Walking back from the Sunken Gardens and popped into this cool restaurant for lunch. Good service, good food, and nice ambiance. Plus a great all day drink special.

STumbled Upon this one

By jmichael-6 |

Just stumbled upon this one. Outside sign brags about world famous burgers. After eating what many people called, "the world's greatest hamburger" the night before at Chris Madrid's, we were anxious to compare. Got to tell you, Bombay's burger was, in our opinion, a much better hamburger. The fries were also superior! We would go there again, and if we lived in San Antonio, we would be regulars.

Visit every time!

By Kerri S |

Love love love this place. Food is good, atmosphere is amazing and my kids loved their homemade potato chips. To us, burgers are the best but haven't had anything we didn't enjoy. Very close to the zoo!

Amazing

One of the best burger places i've ever been to. Amazing food, amazing service, and a great atmosphere

Good bar, OK restuarant?

By Grant H |

Went for the first time today for lunch. Wanted to try the burgers here since they have a big burger on the mural outside. I liked the funky, old school eclectic décor, with a big bar. Walk in, seat yourself. Had the classic Bombay Burger, my friend had the Bean Burger, both with fries. Reasonable wait for the food. Burger was good, not great (that would be Fattboy, Tim’s, Madrid’s). Fries just OK, could have been hotter and crispier. So satisfied my curiosity about this place which has been around a few decades. I might go back to try something else on the menu (they had some lunch specials). I could see this place being busy with the after-work happy hour crowd, who might chow down on decent food while drinking and socializing.

Been Going Strong for Over 40 Years!

By ProfHam |

My first visit to Bombay's was in 1975 when I first moved to San Antonio. It has been one of my favorite watering holes for 44 years now. Bay's is consistently Bay's, which is a way of saying very good. The atmosphere is "welcoming pub" and the food is very good. I recommend the BLT, the hamburgers, the chili (which is some of the best in town), and the tatter tots (always crispy and delicious). I wish the frozen margaritas were better but I order them anyway. If you can't enjoy yourself at Bay's then you ain't got a soul.

Cute pub close to Trinity

By Kim P |

We had a great late lunch and thought the place was quaint. Our food was good , not the u sual frozen bar food off a sysco truck- had made chips, boneless wings, and guac and chips. That is all we tried. The burgers looked good, and beer selection was great. They even had creme brulee for dessert that day. I would love to go back and experience this spot on a weekend night.

Kickback and get away from the tourist attractions

By TheThreeBoots |

I love coming here to de-touristize after hitting the Riverwalk and unsuccesfully trying to find a bar. Do you want to avoid the crowds? Hit this place and enjoy.

Ridiculous Prices, Childish Attitude

By Matthew S |

The markups on their drinks, even the well drinks, are a little much. Frosted beer mugs are a joke and any self respecting, educated bar staff shouldn't use them. The food is decent. The night scene is a college crowd from Trinity and because of the bar's proximity to the University, they do well despite their poor standards.

Consistent and Good.

Bombay’s doesn't pretend to be anything else but a great little neighborhood bar. I've always loved meeting friends there after work and enjoying some good bar food and a beer for lunch during the summer. What I've always loved about this place is the friendly bar staff and waitresses. It's a cheers-type place and best of all, it's open 365 days a year. The decor is done well and the drink selection is extensive. I always ask the bartenders to surprise me with a new drink and they have never let me down. Once in a while, I meet clients there too and we have always had great meetings in the chill environment. Over the years I have been there 2-3 times a month and plan on continuing the tradition. If you are in the downtown area (close to the zoo and Broadway), don't miss your chance to stop by a San Antonio favorite for a nice cold brew and some tasty snacks. For you outdoor lovers, there's a cool outdoor hidden area in the back which is pretty cool too - it's perfect for beautiful spring, fall, or summer days.

Awesome!

Lived in San Antonio for 4 years and always passes this gem up while in the DT area. Big mistake! This place is amazing and the food is delicious and well priced. Thank you for the great experience. I will be back for sure. 😍

College hang plus

By guitarspeak |

A trad college hang for Trinity, Incarnate Word and SAC students plus the old older crowd. Standard burgers and beer fare in a funky atmosphere.

Casual dinner spot

By dolooper |

Food is really good here. We go late for dinner so we can get a booth, but the rest of the seating indoors looks uncomfortable. Outdoors is nice for lunch on a pretty day -- they have a secluded garden patio and will turn down the music there so you can visit if you ask. Service is good and quite friendly. Awesome burgers and sandwiches. Full bar.

A nice surprise for lunch near the Zoo

By pmemendoza |

I am on spring break vacation with the kids and we are visiting the San Antonio Zoo for the first time and we decided to have a bit to eat before we visited the zoo and we saw this place. When we walked into this place it had an antique, hippie feel to it. There is not much seating place, but it has interesting seating. Old fashion used couch mix with steel like chairs. I really like the vibe of the place. There is no kids menu but that was ok, The food was average, my husband works in the food/restaurant business so he recognized where the food was purchased. Wish it had some homemade dishes that matches the place. But overall, I love the vibe so much that I enjoyed the food. I would like to visit this place again without the kids for lunch and have a cocktail or two.

Can't think of the last...

By Extraordinary69237 |

Can't think of the last time I ate there, but I sure used to drink their beer!

Best burgers in San Antonio

By chris o |

The title of my review says it all, and if you want great burgers, be sure to drop by this place. If you are heading to the zoo, and the family is hungry, this place will save you big bucks. The food reminds me of good diner fare, and there is a great bar for the grown ups. The burgers are thick and the fries are plentiful. I ordered a side cup of homemade chili and it's got just a dash of heat to it. My wife got the chicken fried steak and she said that was great as well. The service was fast and friendly.

Really tasty

By Sandy H |

I had grilled chicken for lunch today and my son had chicken fingers. We were both happy with our meals, plus we scored the last inside table at lunch.

Sandwich and a San Antonio beer

By Marstotpart |

Husband first beer returned tapped out bad. Bartender had to clear the tap. Had a wonderful Philly prefect for sharing.

Discovered this one by accident...

By Kathy C |

I was in town visiting a friend and needed to choose a meeting place near the Japanese Tea Gardens. How about the Bombay Bicycle Club?? Great accidental choice! This funky find is charming, casual and fun. Staff is laid back and provides great service. Food is excellent - price is right. And... walking distance to the JTG

Cool pub in the park

By Aggie1994 |

San Antonio's take on an English style pub gets high marks for good ambience and food. The outdoor area is nice but allows smoking. We took our toddler there, and though not a kid-friendly place, they had one high chair and served her milk in a cold beer mug. Sweet!

Decent lunch or pub dinner

By MuffetB |

Met a group of friends here for lunch. Unique, fun setting inside, but we sat outside as it was a lovely afternoon. Service was good, even for a larger party of 12-14. I had the patty melt, which was good. Fries were OK. Prices are fair. Someone ordered the scotch eggs, said they were good. I'd eat here again, but wouldn't rush back. It was good, just not so outstanding that I would rush back.

Happened upon this nice restaurant

By Dennis S |

Happened upon BBC while walking in the Brackenridge Park area. We were thinking of walking to the zoo but realized we needed food. As we came to the corner of Mulberry and N. St. Mary's there it was. Went for lunch on a Saturday. Service was excellent, the place was friendly and the food really good. I had the country fried steak and my wife a salad with salmon on top which she raved about. Really worth going to.

More Than Bar Food

By Dennis10_51 |

The Bombay Club is a colorful fun place to grab lunch. Known for their hamburgers (which are wonderful), there are plenty of other items on the menu. We ordered the Philly Steak nachos to go along with our hamburgers. Very Good.

Very unpleasant for non smokers

By Stevied888 |

The food was very slow in coming and people were smoking every where which made the whole experience so unpleasant. Once it finally arrived the food was good but we would not rush back at all.

Used to be really good. Slipped as the local college crowd overwhelmed the place.

Used to be really good. Slipped as the local college crowd overwhelmed the place.

Unchanged Good Time

By Richard C |

Virtually unchanged from the beginning, The Bombay Bicycle is NOT from that horrible food chain. Unique decor is eclectic and comfortable. Everyday a HUGE sandwich bar is set up for the busy mid-day crowd. Sunny afternoons are less hetic, but later in the evening, the crowd of college students and 20 something blend in well with older regulars and visitors. Drink specials nightly, full kitchen, nice walled patio, wooden floors, comfy couches, 2 Valley pool tables, internet juke box, extra-special fishnetted leg lamp on bar. I remember this bar well from my college days in the late 70's, it really has not changed, and that's a good thing.

Great pub food

By Shivana P |

My friends and I stopped here after visiting the Japanese tea Garden. We had great food here with big portions and even got a complimentary surprise dessert for my friend because it was her birthday. The service was top notch and I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant.

Massive old bar hides really good food.

By Laura B |

We had three different meals and enjoyed the all. The walls are lined with old but interesting junk They had "real tea" not the the watered down version that some places serve. Don't trust google on the directions to get there - at least from Trinity Univ.

Nice pub crawl spot

By arhie |

We're big walkers, so we added this spot to our Pearl/Broadway pub crawl to build in some processing time. It's about a mile up, so wear comfy shoes. I highly recommend the margaritas. The food was good but stingy given the atmosphere. Overall a good experience.

Great spot for lunch

By Dave L |

This place is in an out of the way location near the zoo. It just so happened to be next to the office building I was working in while in town for a week. I ended up eating here for lunch 3 times during that week, and probably would have eaten here every day had I stopped in on the first day of my visit. The menu had a wide variety of items. I stuck with the typical lunch menu fare during my visits by working my way through the sandwiches and burgers. Standouts for me were the club sandwich and the chicken salad sandwich. I would highly recommend the homemade chips over the fries. The burgers were good, but I really enjoyed the sandwiches better. The portions are also fairly large. I really enjoyed interacting with the Bartender. I wish I would have gotten his name but he seemed to be the only bartender who works the day shift during the week. He was such an easy going guy with a great demeanor. I can only assume he has been there a long time by the way he seemed to know everyone that walked through the door. He sure made me feel right at home within minutes of sitting down at the bar.

Scotch eggs a must

By luvmy32000 |

This quaint place had nice outdoor area. It's burgers are excellent. We also tried the scotch eggs and they were very unique and delicious.

Great and affordable local spot

By rglaze2018 |

This is a delicious, affordable, and kitschy local restaurant with a unique environment. The staff is also friendly, patient, and hard-working. We got their chips and guacamole for an appetizer and their chicken finger basket and nachos for our meals. All are easily recommendable! Best of all--their margaritas. Both tasty and affordable ($3.50 if my memory serves). This is a great place to eat and unwind before/after visiting the nearby zoo or park.

Burgers, Chili, Alamo Beer

By Edsbee |

I was in town visiting with my wife, I knew the burger was great at Lunchtime How about Dinner at the Bombay Bicycle Club?? Great choice! This funky find is charming, casual and fun. Staff is laid back and provides great service. Food is excellent - price is right. Alamo Beer on Tap, I had chili as a side with my burger. Starter was Scotch Eggs- ever had them with sliced jalapeno? that was the bomb

Food's not great & it's overrated as a get-together spot

By chicasonrisa |

I have no idea why anyone would actually eat at Bombay's... the real draw is that it's a perennial watering hole for the local colleges and recent grads. On Thurs-Sat, it is wall to wall college kids, smoke-filled and noisy. Go there if you're looking for a place to yell at friends over mediocre drinks. Also, if you're looking for any kind of decent service: I agreed to meet a colleague there for a drink before we went to dinner nearby and his car was broken into two parking spaces away from the front door. The bartender/manager's response was to tell us to call SAPD and remind us that there was a sign on the door that says they're not responsible for thefts. Complete lack of empathy or concern. Apparently this was not an isolated incident. Great attitude, people. Yeah, really makes me want to come back and tell all my friends how great this place is. Not.

Quirky, Hip, Delicious!

By Stacie R |

Headed over here after work for a "cute" happy hour. Enjoyed some fruity drinks on the patio and the BEST $5 burgers and fries I've ever had (Wednesday special)! Great atmosphere, cold drinks, great burgers. Will definitely be back!

Sat Lunch

By MattSWine |

Not sure why TripAdvisor says it is closed right now, because it is definitely open. Glad it is! Scrumptious grub!!! The avocado toast was lovely, and the Bomsetter Grilled Cheese with fried egg and bacon was ahhhmazzing. Great to visit a San Antonio classic and have such a good experience!

Good drinks, friendly place

By Gena C |

We had a good time here. Drinks were good, noisy fun place. Good service. We didn't eat, but food looked good, interesting menu. Good mix of age groups which made it nice. No one would feel out of place here. We would go back. We sat out on the patio. Since it was a group of about 12 it was a little quieter so we could visit more. Inside is booming with conversations, but fun.

Great Chile

By 2dives |

I enjoyed the chile and drinks. The atmosphere is friendly and the service is great. This is a great place to cool off after a day at the zoo.

Not impressed

By Terri M |

Service was good, but food was poor. My friends ordered burgers, and the buns were cold, right out of the fridge. They were out of french fries. I ordered salmon and got a salmon patty...How can that be right?

Summertime Drinks

By Patrice C |

Refreshing drinks served in a quaint bar with a patio and living room atmosphere. Ready for a game of Backgammon...mixed cocktails, beers and Lemonade...Sunday Fun Afternoon with the Adult Kids.

Eat here!

By Allison T |

My husband and I were headed to the Zoo and came across this place and stopped in and the food was DELICIOUS! The service was good and the patio is a fun atmosphere and the price is so reasonable. The inside is so unique and pub-like. I recommend this place for anyone who wants a good lunch or at night I'm sure it's a great bar!

Sriracha Burger

By Coreee |

The Sriracha Burger will make you see God. Additionally you can order it without a bun and with a side salad instead of fries, so you can enjoy the taste and feel nutritionally virtuous at the same time. Win win.

Colorful and friendly!

By tamjan |

Nice tropical vibes with great crowds . $5 burgers every Wednesday night 7pm-9;45pm. Reasonably priced menu. Salads from $5 and sandwiches with chips or fries from $7. Classic hamburger $8.50 - outdoor seating, WiFi, no dress code. Laid back casual vibe. Desserts from $3 and made in house

Chill Hangout

By Claire H |

Great place to grab a drink, hang with friends, play music on the jukebox and play a few rounds of pool. Bartenders are cool and nice. Food isn't bad either, only had the nachos (which i enjoyed), but I mainly went there for pool and a hangout spot.

Glad I stopped by after 2-year hiatus

By Charley |

Had planned on eating somewhere else, however due to road closures that didn’t happen, therefore next best location. Haven’t eaten here since the Cher concert in 2019 food wasn’t that tasty back then, nonetheless everyone deserves a second chance. BINGO the food was absolutely delicious this time, my waiter Michael was very attentive after I was unsuccessful trying to get the virtual menu working. Most definitely will return in the near future.

Nice Lunch spot any day of the week

By nicole r |

Bombay has a lot to offer. Great location, an easy to read menu and funky ambiance. The interior is inviting, and the curiosity of the name draws your attention. The food was good for what I needed it for, which was lunch. They offer a variety of plates from burgers, sandwiches, and salads. I have had the pleasure of trying all three. I have never been during evening hours so don't knock me for that, but I do enjoy the fries.

Comfy comfort food

By WindyCity2011 |

The host/ess and wait staff were wonderful. They offered us suggestions and were back/forth to our table to see what we needed. Meals are reasonable. Next time we will try their Sunday Brunch. When we ate there we had delicious fries, steaks and burgers.. Perfectly cooked on the grill. Eating under the Live Oaks is a perfect setting......day or night. Fun for the family after a visit to the nearby park or the zoo.

the funky atmosphere was good but the food is just ok

By Kathy R |

Standard burgers and beer fare, not very good! service was good, but the place was practically empty, won't go back

great service and delicious

By bethstin |

Everyone could not have been nicer at making you comfortable and explaining what they are known for. We stopped here because we were ubering to the Japanese Tea Garden. Cute outdoor seating but the flies were bothersome to me so they moved us indoors. The nachos are dressed individually . I had chicken(white meat and tasty) with a monterey cheese melted and fresh guacamole..I had to get extra pico because it was so fresh and delish. Pickled jalapenos. My husband had a burger that was very good. Juicy.. I would recommend here for sure

Awesome

By Deb n Pete Wanderlust |

Been coming here for years. Service is always good. The Bombetter patty melt is the best in town! Highly recommended. You won't be disappointed.

Decent little pub-style...

By Justin A |

Decent little pub-style bar. I would like to go back on a busy night.

Restaurant

By 984lisas |

It was an interesting experience. Good food but not super busy and the staff was fairly inattentive.

Good happy hour spot!

By rduinc |

We stopped here because we though it part of a chain we used to go to when we lived in Minneapolis. It was not, but we were still glad we stopped. We were there for happy hour and low price drinks and appetizers. We ordered margaritas and chips and salsa. Everything was very good, and service fast and friendly. Located very close to the the Japanese garden, this is a great happy hour place.

Cute little restaurant

By axj23 |

I think it’s a little overpriced, but their chicken wings hit just the spot after walking all day! Someone also suggested that we come here after we had already bin so it’s apparently a happening place! Just not at 3:30 during the week haha. But we enjoyed the food!

Nice bar with great burgers

By Eli R |

Nice neighborhood bar and simple food eatery. The California burger and patty melt were very flavorful but the side of tater tots were fabulously crunchy and a pleasant surprise. They had the coldest Shiner bock beer on tap I’ve ever had!!
