Every Day or Special Occasion!

By Robert J |

The Bone Garden Cantina is my personal favorite for lunch year round. The food is comparable to many of the great Mexican restaurants I frequented during my 10 years living in Southern California. I go for the food, and The Three Amigos is a great way to start you meal with three dips: guacamole, salsa, and queso. The red goat soup is spectacular, try it. My two personal favorites for lunch are the shrimp verde tacos or the mole plate but the beef brisket or the duck enchiladas run a very close second. When my wife joins me for lunch she cannot wait to get the genuine hand made tamales. This is not a lunch only kind of place though. The restaurant and bar scene in the evening is enlivened with a tequila menu unmatched outside of Jalisco Mexico. The overall atmosphere is casual and energetic and with the "Día de Muertos" or Day of the Dead decor, just plain fun.

Great Mexican Experience.

Our daughter suggested this restaurant for good authentic Mexican food, she was right on! Service was great with very original dishes.

Worth a second chance, but the first not without issues

By Zippy P |

They make killer cocktails here, and they don't come cheaply. The place is small and hipster enough that I'd avoid bringing kids here. The food was good, though not amazing; good enough that I'll happily give the place another try to try something I ordered the first time but did not receive. One of the best things about this place is its obnoxious house rules, quite clearly set out in a full page in the menu. I rather loved the house rules because they seem to be all abut protecting the staff from patron abuse (and let's face it: wait staff are probably the most abused people in the restaurant industry). But when I ordered the Lengua taco (and literally pointed it out with my finger to the waiter), and the curried chicken taco, as well as the Mexican corn, what I received was the Mexican corn and two curried chicken tacos, not one of the curried and one of the beef tongue. However, knowing I'd be charged for either the server's or the kitchen's mistake, I chose to enjoy my curried chicken tacos rather than send one back in lieu of the beef I'd actually ordered. And the server never offered to refill our waters, even though some of us had ordered meals with habanero peppers and other super spiciness. One of my friends I was with said she wasn't thrilled with her pork and beef taco options, either, but they were okay. The Mexican corn was yummy, but more like a dessert than a side. I'll give it a second chance.

Great

Visited this restaurant for a Christmas gift exchange! It was perfect! The food was great! The friking cheese dip and the guacamole was perfect! The sangria was really good and tasty! My friends had margaritas and they where really good too. Our waitress was really nice and she did a great job on helping us pick something from the menu. The flan was to die for! Loved it! I will definitely will be coming back soon! And it is not expensive at all. Prices where very comfortable.

Good food, good service, different location

By Rue14 |

We went on a saturday night. Off the beaten track, different from all the other mexicians restuarants. This place is in a business/office location. We had a 30 min wait, which was fine. Place was busy! We just chilled by the bar and had a few drinks. Not cheap! Seated after 30 mins as they predicted. The venue has some cool decor, again its just different. I had the haberno Tacos. They are hot! Beware! My wife had a a chicken enchilada which she enjoyed too. Service was good and friendly. Would go again. Worth a visit!

Delicious food but awful wait

By mediajackie |

I went here with two friends on a Saturday evening around 7pm. For 3 people, the wait was 45 mins to an hour but they actually sat us an hour and a half later. There was no room to wait inside so we waited outside in the cold. They really should have heat lamps for people when its cold! Regardless of this, the food and service inside was outstanding. Definitely get the queso!!!!

Bad manager service on a Wednesday night from Stephen

By fluffiest1 |

We decided to adventure out to Bone Garden by recommendation from 2 sets of friends. What a mistake! We ordered 2 margrita cocktails. They didn't have ingredients on one of them, then we picked another. One of them came to us and was awful. We asked if we could switch it out. They had switched our waitresses on us at some point because of some reason, and the next girl had to get her manager. Fine fine fine, managers are usually very accommodating-Nope!!! Stephen, the manager, came out and said we could get another drink but we would have to pay for the crappy drink as well. Now honestly, what poor customer service. It was out second choice, and it tasted awful. At this point we were out to have a good time, so we just said fine. Let me say, terrible customer service from a manager. The waitress was fine and I felt bad for her. Stephen and owner/s you just lost 2 customers and then some from a bad $10 drink.

Great vibe, awesome Mexican

By JMeacham |

We've been coming to Bone Garden once every 3-4 months for the past few years. Easily a favorite spot because of the vibe and food. This place gets packed out on a Friday and Saturday night (as with many places in Atlanta), so temper expectations or plan accordingly. Same owners as Vortex if I recall, which speaks to the high quality (assuming you like Vortex). The mole is great, and if the duck enchiladas are on special, you're in for a cool treat!

I LOVE this place

By Megan P |

Oh man! This place is so good! We went on a Friday night so we ended up waiting for our table for a pretty long time, but when I tell you the food was worth the wait! You wait awhile for a table but the food comes out fast. It was awesome! They just might have the best salsa Ive ever had in a restaurant. I would wait an hour for a table there any day! The food is worth the wait!!

Delicious authentic food

By Cindy T |

We had a small birthday party, and it was great! The staff was very accommodating to our VERY loud table, and the food was wonderful...the tacos taste like you are in Mexico! The building is small, so not a large crowd to deal with. Already planning another get together here soon!!

GREAT Time and Atmosphere

By Taylor I |

This place gets crowded but is well worth it. Great menu, great drink options, and the best queso in Atlanta. A must-visit.

Must try

By Kurt T |

We saw this restaurant on diners dive-ins and drives so on our trip down to Florida we had to stop by and t I had the pork belly taco, The goat taco and the beef tongue taco. They were all very very good. The chips and salsa were great and the service was amazing

Muy Fun!

By Jonathan F |

The Bone Garden Cantina is what is missing in many restaurants today...originality. The atmosphere is truly unique and the food a notch or two above chains and while not necessarily "original" it is authentic. Great libations, very good food and an entrancing décor that keeps your eye wandering. Highly rated and I understand why. Glad I stopped by.

Too dark

By Kim K |

Too dark, my friends had to use their cell phones to read the menu. Also the tables are way too small for 4 people to sit comfortably, There's no room for your food and drinks. The theme is cool.. consensus on all our food.. too spicy. Cheese dip was good and so was the guacamole. Other than that... we gave it a shot.

Worst Customer Service Ever!

By LolaVee3 |

Please do yourself a favor and read the menu on the restaurant's website, last page titled "our restaurant - our rules" before coming here. I wish we had! Then we would have known they don't care about customers in any way! They don't care if their food item is inedible or the quality of their drinks are poor. We were treated so rudely that I left in tears an our anniversary night, all because my husband's one item was so bland he literally couldn't eat it, so we asked for it to be taken off our bill. Our request was refused, no alternative offered, no apology, just rudeness and defensiveness from the so- called manager. I have never been treated this way in my life and I can't believe this business has open doors and customers because they do not deserve it. Please do not eat here, ever!

Delicious mexican food & drinks

By Lucy |

We had an amazing meal here, 5 of use went, our friends had been before so we knew it would be good. The decor is really cool, the menu is extensive. I had shrimp dish and the specialty corn and a yummy cocktail called a the Creamy Hoe!

Authentic Mexican Food

By Michael R |

We have been looking for a good Mexican food restaurant since we came to Atlanta. There were some interesting places but we are glad we found Bone Garden Cantina. I used the filter on Trip Advisor for the Mexican cuisine restaurants in Atlanta. I checked the reviews for Bone Garden and then checked their website. The décor looked very interesting, the variety of dishes and the prices convinced me they should be tried. The restaurant has excellent décor of "El Dia de los Muertos" art. They specialize in tequila and Mexican drinks. The food is very good authentic Mexican food that is so much better than the bland Mexican food we had encountered at other restaurants in the Atlanta area. Excellent use of spices, peppers and seasonings made the food memorable. Do not expect mild tastes but the food is not overly spicy. Service was good despite a little inattention when we wanted to order. This was the best Mexican food we have found in Atlanta.

LOVED it!!!

By Foodaholic Jackson |

My family and I were visiting Atlanta, and we seen this place on TV (I can't remember the show). Anyways, the artwork in the restaurant is AWESOME, kinda gave me the vibe of a metal club. Onward to the food, I ordered a goat taco and a steak quesadilla, and they were both AWESOME!!!! The service was great, etc... I would probably visit this restaurant often if I lived in Atlanta. Highly recommended!!!!

Great Food, Cool Decor

By Russell H |

If you are a connoisseur of tequila, you have to try a few from their extensive list. My favorite by far is the Kah Reposado. Bone Garden also makes a mean margarita. Not so jazzed about the beer selection. But why drink beer when you can have great tequila? Guacamole is good. Chipos and Salsa are just ok. Absolutely loved the Red Goat Soup and the Carne Adobo tacos. I could eat those all the time. On one outing I tried the Chorizo Torta. I would not recommend that item. It had way too much bread and cheese, the other ingredients got lost. My roommate and I have eaten here several times, and we keep going back. He loves the Sangria. I can't wait to go back and try the mole.

Five Stars for Authenticity

By caseyh06 |

This is the restaurant in Atlanta that I've been looking for for real authentic Mexican food! Having been to Mexico many times, I always return to my hometown with cravings for the delicious delicacies I had in Mexico, but I've never found anything that satisfies. I'm so glad that I finally tried this place because they have food here that no other restaurant in Atlanta has! The best part is it's only five minutes from my house! The restaurant is conveniently located in West Midtown and fortunately there is plenty of free parking. The evening I went it was actually not super crowded, probably due to the fact that it had rained earlier that day and was uncomfortable patio weather. The decor inside is really cool--it's all Day of the Dead themed so it might be scary for little kids but it's very colorful, pretty, and unique. The drinks are okay--the Tamarind Margarita was good but a little sweet for my liking. All of the drinks seemed to be a little on the sweeter side but they are still tasty. You can also get tequila shots in two sizes (3/4 oz or 1.5 oz). It's a good way to try multiple tequilas if you're interested in that sort of thing. The food is amazing! Definitely try the elote...it's very similar to the real thing in Mexico (they use mayonnaise instead of crema but it's very similar). The corn is super juicy and the seasoning is on point. I also really liked the beet salad I got (I've never tried anything like that in Mexico, but it was tasty, so hey...). The pork tamale was seriously the best tamale I've ever had. Seriously. It tasted like the homemade ones in Mexico but even more moist and flavorful and delicious. Get the tamales. I also really liked my tacos. I got the tacos al pastor which is hugely popular in Mexico, and while the meat did not appear to be slow roasted on a spit like the tacos al pastor I had in Mexico, the meat was seasoned almost identically and served with the traditional pineapples, onions, and lime. It was perfect. I also got the beef brisket taco which was excellent. everyone else's food looked great too and they said it tasted awesome. **Cilantro haters: Most of the items on the menu can come without cilantro. The empanadas, tamales, and soups are pre-made but other than that you can ask them to hold the cilantro. I'm a cilantro hater if you couldn't tell. :-)** For dessert we got the churros which they apparently only serve on weekends, so that was excellent. And they had Mexican hot chocolate...my favorite (with chili and cinnamon)! I can honestly say the pricing was very reasonable for the area and was a great value. It's a very nice meal and everything is a la carte so you can order as much or as little as you like. A lot of the "Mexican" restaurants in the burbs have comparable prices for food that's not nearly as tasty or authentic as this. The whole time I was eating I was thinking, "Wow, whoever put this menu together has obviously spent a lot of time in Mexico eating Mexican food." Every bite left me wanting more. The only downside of this experience was that now I know how good it is and I'm going to be craving it all the time! Thanks Bone Garden--I'll be back with friends!

Muy Delicioso

It's always a festive time at Bone Garden Cantina. Their pomegranate margarita is out of this world. The pork quesadilla with avocado is to die for. The Dia de los Muerte atmosphere is awesome.

SALT

By Mimbleganger |

4 stars for Atlanta Mexican, 3 stars if in Southern California. Great decor and ambiance. But wow - salt overload. You could end up at the hospital if you eat the chips, an entree and a margarita. It's a shame, because you can taste good spices and flavor under the salt, and it would really come into it's own if you reduced like 75% of the salt. Nice veggie options, including Jamaica (hah-MY-ka) tacos aka hibiscus, veggie sopes, veggie black beans. However, a waiter once told me the rice was made with chicken stock after I had been reassured other times that it was vegetarian, so be forewarned. Go for churros on Saturday only. Would be nice to have Sunday hours.

Good food and quirky decor

By Jane P |

Fun place for lunch or dinner surrounded by what feels like Day of the Dead decor. The chips and cheese dip were delicious as was the betabel salad and tacos. Accommodating to young children during lunch as it was fairly noisy when we were there with a toddler and 4 year old.

At Last

By Bob D |

We finally made it to the Bone Garden Cantina!! This place is hard to find but worth the effort. Trust your GPS. BGC has a unique menu that I have seen in very few Mexican restaurants. My wife and I ordered the Birria Brisket Enchiladas. The brisket was tender and slightly smokey tasting. The taste was intensified by the tomatillo sauce which adds a tangy twist to the enchiladas. The house margarita was smooth and not overly sweet. The service was excellent. Bone Garden Cantina is on my go to again list in Atlanta now.

Awesome place!

By Blosss |

Came for dinner one night. The food was fresh and delicious! The atmosphere is unique with stellar decor. My favorite was the mexican rice, it was so light and fluffy but full of flavor! They have good vegetarian selection.

Authentic Mexican

By Carlos Tejeda |

The Margarita are awesome and the food is great. The Steal Tamales are very good and the tacos are amazing.

Cool place but not great for kids.

By Elizabeth L |

The inside of this place is really cool decor with their Day of the Dead theme, smaller area in what looks like an old warehouse or industrial area/building which was interesting. I got the Carne Adobo Tacos which I was really excited about. However after taking the first bite I was let down. The tacos were mostly bland with just a taste of spice. But the chips, salsa, guacamole and queso were good. They have a lot of different menu items that aren't your typical choices, a lot of trendy stuff I guess, but then they also have some of the basics too. They do not have a kids menu so unless your kids really like tacos and such, the only other thing is probably the cheese quesadilla that might work well for them. I wouldn't visit this place again because it just wasn't that great, at least food wise.

Awesome Authentic Mexican food

Great decor, great food, year after year consistently high quality food and excellent tequila selection.

A Really Cool Place

By Richard B |

This is a quirky, trendy, crazy fun place to dine. The food is a Mexican cuisine at its finest. The menu is a la carte so you can try many of the tasty treats a reasonable price. Do not expect the average bland microwaved rubbish that 99% of the people are used to eating. Bone Gartin Cantina has very eccentric style of Mexican food with a spicy twist. I had the Hibiscus tacos...yes you're reading that right. This is the type of crazy, tasty treats that awaits. The bar also serves some very good drinks as well. Lastly, the decor is worth the trip alone. You may feel like you're in a bone yard...literally. There are countless large skeletons all over the walls ceilings etc.. very colorful place. Get there early or be ready to wait outside the doors

Great food!

By phoenixls2 |

We have been twice, and it is great! Great food and atmosphere. It is kind of away from the main attractions of downtown Atlanta, but very much worth the drive to find.

Amazing Taco's!

By Matt C |

While in town visiting some friends they took us to Bone Garden. Its a funky Day of the Dead themed spot hidden in some Industrial Loft Building outside of ATL. While the service was a tad slow the food was awesome. The taco's (Steak + Pork Belly) and Shrimp Empanada were out of this world and the taco's chips very addicting. The drinks were strong and good but somewhat pricey.

Bone Garden Cantina Review

By Suzanne M |

After seeing a review of Bone Garden Cantina, we decided to go for lunch. The decor is "Day of the Dead" fun. Skeleton people, skeleton dogs, lizards, angels, devils, etc. The art is great. The service was also friendly and helpful. The food is okay. The queso dip was unimpressive and tasted as if it had Velveeta in it, but the pollo burrito was good, nothing great. Fortunately, I ordered roasted jalapeños for it and it might have been bland without them. The taco de chivo was oddly spiced, almost BBQ-y and not too good, but the taco de lengua was very good. It had thinly sliced radishes and a sauce that complemented the dish nicely. Good flavor, tender and tasty. Overall, my Latino hub and I thought it was okay and worth a trip for the decor, but not quite living up to the hype.

Authentic cuisine, festive environment

By AndersonianAdventure |

Bone Garden has been a local favorite for a few years now. This is not your average Mexican cuisine, there are unique combinations that pack a ton of flavor, standing apart from what you are used to from American style Mexican food. I have yet to go wrong with a menu choice. The tamales are perfect, but they only make a certain amount, so they can run out later in the evening. I also love the house made horchata drink as an NA alternative. The inside is very small, and even with outdoor seats my, they are always busy. They do not take reservations, so get there early or plan to wait. Waiting is always better withs few good friends and some margaritas, so no worries!

You definitely get you money's worth.

By Ben N |

Whenever I'm in Atlanta I definitely try to stop and enjoy a meal here. The service has always been nice with lots of good suggestions if you can't make up your mind. The decor is great and the tequila menu is gigantic. I have a new favorite tequila thanks to Bone Garden. Tee food itself is always very good. I like to experiment with different things on the menu that I've never had (or heard of) before. It can be a little hit a miss at times with particular dished but that's more to do with my personal taste than the quality of the food or chefs. I like really spicy stuff and at other "authentic" Mexican places can be a bit bland but here if they say/warn it's spicy, then trust them that it is! Just up my alley. My only complaints if you want to call it that is they aren't open on Sunday (maybe something to do with liquor license is my guess) and their empanadas are great but a bit small. If you're in town, it's only a very short drive from downtown so give it a try! I always leave stuffed and surprised how little money it costs.

Best enchilada ever.

By Kimmy K |

Everything I ordered was delicious. Me and my friends had a great time and everyone agreed it was delicious. I would gladly eat more right now. On top of the great food the place looks amazing, incredible skeleton decorations and paintings. Like something straight out of a movie.

Good food but a lot of waiting

By cwilkening |

The food was really good. But not worth the long waits. The place wasn't real busy. Got seated right away. She took our drink order and they came 15 min later, then took our appetizer order that came right away by a different person who didn't take our dinner order, dinner came about an hour into it. Which is a really long time when the place real isn't busy.

Loved it!

By amcg101 |

We got there before 7 on a Tuesday night and we were glad we did. By the time we left,it was packed. Unique take on Mexican yet authentic. Tamales Azteca was huge. Other people at the table ordered them after seeing mine. The tacos were delicious too! Don't skip desert. The churros come with a hot chocolate that's to die for. Our waiter Patrick was awesome and the decor was entertaining. A must for tequila fans! Big selection!

Not as good as it once was.

By TheWanderingPilgrim |

I first visited the restaurant about 5 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it but I revisited again this week and was surprised to see that the food isn’t a good as it once was. Flavour and freshness was lacking in the dishes I ordered which is a shame and hopefully an issues which they can rectify.

Never Disappoints.

By Tom M |

We have become regulars. My wife loves their pomegranate margaritas and I love the Mexican street corn (elote). We both love the servers - we have never gotten a poor server.

LOVEMEX

This is one of the best Mexican restaurants in Atlanta! The cheese dip is amazing!! Lived in Texas for over 5 years and know my Mexican food! This place is "Awesome" it will not disappoint!

Walkers and Wheelchairs Beware

By David M |

If you have mobility issues the outdoor area is very nice, but in Atlanta, in the Summer, WHEW! Inside you might have a problem. It is very crowded, because it is small and very popular. Park around back and you can get very close to the door of the restaurant. This food is authentic Mexican so if you are looking for Taco Bell they will give you directions to the closest one. Everything is priced individually, and reasonably, so order different stuff and share. I had the red goat soup. It was wonderful! I also had a beef tongue taco. I have never eaten goat or beef tongue before, but will be sure to order both again. Beware the red goat soup is spicy! Check out the decor in the pictures above.

Mexican with a flair!

By Lambchop |

My husband and I had dinner here with four other friends before a concert at Chastain Park. We live almost two hours south and had never been to this part of Atlanta before. The restaurant is in an interesting building that adds to the atmosphere of the area and restaurant. We dined outside because the inside was packed. It is not a large restaurant, but it's very creatively decorated and I'd imagine that it stays packed on the weekends. I thought the food was was outstanding! I had the Betabel salad, elotes, tacos al pastor, and an Azteca tamale. My husband ordered the tacos al pastor and black beans. He didn't like care for the beans, but he thought the al pastor was pretty good. He tried my tamale and instantly regretted his decision. Our friends all thought the food was creative and delicious. We order the trio for the table that included fresh guacamole, salsa, and queso. It was all good and the tortilla chips were very lite, crispy, and fresh. We'll be back soon!!

Best Mexican Food in Atlanta

By Kelseyrk |

By far the best Mexican food I have ever eaten and certainly the best Mexican food in Atlanta by far! We went twice in two weeks! The first trip we shared a pitcher of margaritas for a table of four and the three amigos dips (great queso and guac!). We also got some version of the enchiladas and raved about our respective dishes. Highly recommend the diablitos with chorizo. The second trip I tried the habenero margarita both as advertised and the skinny margarita with habenero tequila. That trip we did the diablitos and the chicken, steak, and chicharrons tacos. Amazing too. I can't say enough good stuff about this place. By the same people that started the Vortex, you won't be disappointed!

Excellent.

By Jenny S |

The food here is fresh and delicious. The menu has a good variety of choices. Our office group shared some queso dip and salsa, and the queso was the best I've had at any restaurant. We had five people in our group who all ordered different entrees, and everyone loved their food. Service is quick and friendly. They also expect you to be a considerate patron- see the attached picture of the rules on the menu. Cheeky! I love the boldness of the up-front declaration that, basically, if you want to be a jerk you should go somewhere else. There is a great vibe here that makes for a pleasant experience, and I'm eager to go after work hours to try their drinks menu.

Good food and atmosphere

By David R |

Quick and friendly service, excellent food, wide selection of drinks. The decor is vibrant and fun, and the music is unique and upbeat. Definitely will return.

Can’t wait to go back to Bone Garden Cantina

Staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and they actually know how to make a simple, healthy, and delicious margarita…natural is definitely better! Cool Dia de los Muertos theme was a bonus!!

Family Reunion

By Falconsguy |

We came here with close familyand friends. We all really enjoyed the energy of the place. We ate upstairs with a view of the Atlanta skyline, and the weather was perfect! Really recommend the scallops entree with the grades which is about the south and full of wonderful flavor. The oysters were very good also. It was nice to have good eats with family.

Wow great restaurant and staff, large selection of tequila

By Martin N |

What a great restaurant, probably the best chips I have ever had. They have a great selection of tequila. I came here because they had G4 Tequila and was pleasantly surprised that the menu was also stacked with authentic foods from Mexico. The food was awesome and the staff was knowledgeable. Our server has actually been to the town of Tequila to learn a out this beautiful spirit. I loved all the Day of the Dead decor. I just wish we lived in the area. When in Atlanta I would come back.

Unearned and Undeserved Average 4.5 Rating

By Alyssa J |

I'd heard of this place a couple of years ago, not because of its food, but because of its passively hostile approach towards children. Yes, there are people who dine out with unruly children, but restaurants shouldn't dedicate an entire web page and menu page to laying out rules and regulations for diners and particularly diners with children. Moving along, we were looking for a good place to eat and I remembered this place had great reviews for it's food so I thought, let's do it. I'll ignore the less than polite and less than professional declarations if this place has fantastic food. It was a disappointment. There were only six other people dining at the restaurant when we arrived. Nevertheless, it still took almost 30 minutes for our food to arrive. I had the red snapper and it was severely overcooked. The flavor of the dish was good, not great, but the rubbery fish took away from it. I must say, however, the broccoli was some of the best broccoli I've ever had. It was prepared perfectly and seasoned with a garlicky flavor that was delightful. If only as much effort had been put towards the fish preparation. The margaritas we had tasted like electrolyte replacement sports drinks. The service was fine. The food was mediocre and very disappointing especially for all the braggadocio.

Pretty awesome crazy place!

By afamily05 |

Staff-great and laid back personalities, food was AMAZING!! Food was on point! South Texans and it was the best mexican food we have had since being back home. AUTHENTIC FLAVORS! Not for small kiddos- only three high chairs available, no kiddie menu here however my younger kids LOVED it here. Odd location belongs downtown but I like the feel! We will be back!

One of my favorites in Atlanta

By Obeth |

Bone Garden Cantina is one of my favorite restaurants in Atlanta. It is located in West Midtown in an industrial complex. The restaurant itself is very small but there is outdoor seating when the weather permits. You should definitely expect a wait but it is well worth it! The drinks were fresh, the salsa was great and the food and sauces were delicious.

Good ambiance, good food

By wallismx |

Okay, first thing... If you like who you brought to dinner and would like to have a conversation with them over dinner, dine outside. Period. If you do go inside, you go for the decoration. Okay, now if you are a fan of Tequila, they have pretty much anything you would like. A bit pricy for what amounts to a shot, but you can't get most of this stuff anywhere else at one place North of the border. The food is very very good. Personally I'd recommend the Goat soup. Other diners in our party had the Chicken Burrito and Tacos which were also enjoyed very much. Would we go back? Absolutely! Would we sit outside? Absolutely!

Great Mexican and Great Vibe

By ttbryan1 |

A friend of mine suggested this place and I'm glad he did. I would have never found it on my own. It is located on Ellsworth Industrial Avenue in one of those new commercial type spaces all the way around the back of the buildings. It is very secluded. I went here on a Friday evening for dinner with two friends. Parking is very easy and accessible and the place is very lively and hip with a mostly younger hipster type crowd. The place was very busy, but we were able to get seated immediately inside. We started with the house margaritas, which were fine, and the chips and salsa. Just an FYI, the chips and salsa cost $2.25. For dinner, I had the special of duck enchiladas, which was very good. My friends had the brisket enchiladas (very good) and the empanadas (excellent). The food came out amazingly fast, but still tasted like authentic mexican food. The service and prices were fine. This is a great place to go with a couple of friends to have some good mexican food.

Amazing decor and Atmosphere

By mokfmb |

The food here is good authentic Mexican food, nothing extraordinary but good, service was also adequate. What really stand out here was the decoration and atmosphere, that alone makes this place worth visiting at least once!

Terrible Experience!!!

By Joanne K |

Pros: Their food is better than Taco Bell (They brag about that on their menu.) Cons: Unsafe furniture, rude manager, unfriendly customer policy Crash! I hit the floor when the leg on my chair broke under me. After my dinner partners helped me up, we noticed that the leg of one of the other chairs at our table was also loose – so loose that with just a bit of pressure, it came off too! The manager, Zach, embarrassed by two broken chairs, quickly spoke a half-hearted apology to me and without missing a beat, turned to one of the other members of our little group and told us to leave or he was calling the police. It was BIZARRE! Since then I have contacted the owner, Kristen Benoit, who described the incident as an unforeseeable accident and she is perfectly comfortable with her manager’s handling of the situation. They ignore my broken chair and just blame my dinner partner for ‘breaking’ the second chair. Both of those chairs were rickety and Bone Garden has a lot of nerve having that kind of furniture in their restaurant. They also own the Vortex and I’m sure they have enough money to keep quality furniture in their restaurants. One more thing…you might want to check out Our Restaurant Our Rules; it’s a full page on their menu (available on their website) addressing their company’s policy toward its customers...no free samples, no returns, no children’s menu, no substitutions, no special orders, no sitting too long at the table. The whole page is written in a snotty and sarcastic tone and if you have a problem, you are labeled an “idiot” and thrown out. Do yourselves a BIG favor and don’t subject yourself to the people and atmosphere of this place. Head down the road to Nuevo Laredo.

Best Mexican Food Around

For starters, I am Mexican, so when I say I know what good Mexican food is supposed to taste like believe me. I have been to many if not all Mexican restaurants in the area and to many in Gwinnett. The food was at the same level as my mothers cooking or possibly even higher. The chorizo and cheese enchiladas were to die for, and the esquite was the best I'd ever had hands down. Great food, cool decor, and the service wasn't bad either.

Not your Average Mexican Joint

By OKRay |

Cantina is in a revamped expansive Lumber yard facility. Truely unique layout tucked back in the neighborhood. Was recommended by a local so we stopped by. If your a Tequila fan this place has a extensive - vast menu page just for you. The entree’s were good and the spicey pork burrito is JUST THAT. Wow. Also tried a bite of the chicken quesadilla which was pretty good. The place draws a pretty good crowd so better get there early.

One of Atlanta's Best!

By B T |

This is our favorite Atlanta restaurant, hands down. We started with the Three Amigos, which is a trio of guacamole, queso, and salsa. I could eat this for every single meal. Next we had the talapia taco, the shrimp taco, the chorizo burrito, corn on the cob, and chorizo empanada. My son loved the empanada so much he didn't want to share even a teeny, tiny bit. We finished with the churros, which are only available on Saturdays. Oh my goodness, we love this restaurant. Very casual, very friendly.

Excellent Lunch location

Food was very good and so was the service. Went there today for lunch and hadn't been in a long time...everything was great! Would return for sure.

High Quality Tacos questionable customer decision making

By Alex G |

The Good: I went to the Bone Garden Cantina for lunch with a group of 6 people. We started off with the Three Amigos dip for the table. The queso dip was the top notch. Then I shared the Mexican street corn which was pretty good but lacked the smoked flavor you get from blackening the corn while cooking. Then came the highlight of my meal, the tacos. Since i had never seen beef tongue or goat on a taco menu it was a no brainer for me to splurge on these two. The beef tongue taco was one of my favorite tacos I have ever had. It was braised well and had a succulent texture that almost resembled short ribs. I would definitely recommend it! The Bad: Our group had just spent 2 hours outside playing TopGolf outside and were really looking forward to continuing that at one of the outdoor tables here. Only 1 table was in the sun and it would have been far less enjoyable to eat in the shade. The hostess refused to seat our group at the sunny table saying "thats our dog friendly table, we have to keep it open in case someone with a dog comes". And also would not allow us to move any other tables to the sun either. We were forced to be seated inside, really putting a damper on our outdoor afternoon. Long story short, no one with a dog came throughout the duration of our meal so forcing us to eat inside was a complete waste.

A must-visit on anyone's Atlanta list

By Ina-Mari C |

High ratings, excellent reviews and a great website convinced us to go way out of our way and pay a visit to Bone Garden Cantina. We arrived at noon without reservations and, though the restaurant was packed already, we got in and attended to quickly. The staff is friendly, service is efficient and subtle - drinks and food are served soon after ordering, our water got refilled without our noticing and plates were removed almost immediately at the end of our meal. We recommend the house margarita, guacamole, steak taco and anything with shrimp on it. The only vague disappointments were the sopes and rice, both of which lacked the 'wow' factor of everything else on the table. It's much more civilized than many reviews suggest - i.e. it is not somewhere inside an industrial plot, but rather located inside a new (but subtle) retail centre in an industrial area. Also, it is located accurately on Google and Apple Maps, so finding it is only difficult if you're navigating by something more primitive. There is a massive skeleton outside, so if you can find the street you won't miss the address. We will be back during the week, for less noise and a more leisurely experience with the vast collection of tequilas on offer.

Good experience at a good hole-in-the-wall restaurant

By Kelly Street |

Went here with my sister on recommendation. The decor is unique, and there is a lot to be noticed as you continue to look around. The drink selection is much more complex than that of your typical Mexican restaurant, and the menu pays more homage to authentic cuisine than your typical TexMex. Loved my Hibiscus margarita and the queso and guacamole were both very good. Would recommend.

Authentic Mexican at it's Best

By amalavita1 |

Wonderful, wonderful, WONDERFUL! We tried the "Salsa Trio" for an appetizer and fell in love with the smokey chipotle salsa, Goat tacos (amazing), Carne Adobo (steak) and Beef Tongue tacos and the Citrus Shrimp Empanadas (excellent). It's a very small place with an outdoor seating are for good weather. The atmosphere is really cool....all original artwork in the spirit of the "Day of The Dead". Just a great find!!

A Day of the Dead Atmosphere in a Fun Way

By StockholmKindaGuy |

The interior of this Mexican eatery is a visual feast. The Bone Garden's Day of the Dead theme makes for a fun atmosphere to enjoy a meal. And their menu offers plenty of choices to feast on. All the usual Mexican fare can be found, some with a nice twist. Soups, salads, tacos, quesadillas, empanadas, tamales and burritos are some of the items you'll find. I had three different tacos. My favorite was the Carne Adobo (grilled steak). My least favorite was the Pollo Al Limon, grilled lemon-curry chicken. The Al Pastor, marinated pork, fell in the middle. They all seemed a bit too salty, but more authentic than your typical fast food taco restaurant. Prices are moderate and service was attentive and friendly. For you drinkers, who isn't, Bone Garden has a full bar. The Bone Garden is located in a former industrial building converted to offices on Ellsworth Industrial Blvd and can be easy to miss. Since the restaurant is located close to our new offices, it will probably become a regular lunch stop.

Busy on Friday Night

By Fairways of Alabama |

We stopped in for dinner and the place was very busy. We waited about 20 minutes to be seated. The bar area was also very crowded with people waiting to be seated. Food was very good and the menu options were very unique. Great food and drink options.

Mexican Yum!

By Robert F |

Getting to Bone Garden is truly off the beaten path but well worth the time getting here. The seating is limited inside so have an outdoor option helps if you don’t want to wait inside. So we came on a recommendation from a friend of mine from Mexico. I would call it Mexican fusion. We started off with a 3 Amigo appetizer with chips, salsa, guacamole, queso dip - all with special flavors. For dinner, the pork, steak taco were fantastic and also was citrus shrimp empanadas. The pork ribs, a house favorite, was tender and very flavorful. My wife had the steak torta sandwich which was large enough to bring home 1/2. The service was good except for getting the check but the quality of the food outweighed any blemish to the rating. I would come back again for sure.

Great Mexican

By James W |

This is a very good Mexican restaurant. The food is far above the average. It was crowed at 7 on a Saturday, but by 9 there were tables. The food is creative and well done. It is worth the trip!

Attitudes where surprising

By Joyce J |

Went here for my birthday dinner (do not bring your cake they will not let you bring it in). We had a party of 8. Upon arriving the hostess was not particularly friendly. I notified her we were with the party of 8, now there are 6 of us there, and she just says "ok", so I said, "well, I guess we will wait at the bar." Not a big bar. Bartender unfriendly, but attentive enough to let my husband know he was seen and being ignored. He looked at my husband 3 times, and continued his conversation with the ladies at the bar. When he does come over and take my husbands order, he is not friendly at all. At this point I am really regretting I picked this place. No one seems happy to be there, not the hostesses, servers or bartenders, NO ONE IS SMILING, it is so weird I have never been to a place like this. When were are seated and given menus I am looking at "the rules." On the same page right next to each other are these rules. I am paraphrasing. Basically it says, Food is made to order so it may take a little longer than normal "so get the stick out of your butt and enjoy your company and the atmosphere" (not paraphrased); then right below it tells you to eat, pay your check as soon as it arrives and get the hell out if you there is a wait. UNBELIEVABLE, I have never seen anything like this, this is not a joke. There is a whole page of rules. It seems as if they say, come in, shut up, eat what we give you and get the hell out. Not good. No hospitality whatsoever. Our server Me-o was nice. Kind of cool at first but we began talking and asking her questions and she warmed up, we enjoyed her service and tipped handsomely because we did take up her table for two hours. The food was not impressive in light of the ridiculous rules and attitudes. If you are going to treat people like crap and basically just say, "eat it and pay, then get the hell out." Your food better be over the top and this food is not. It is not worth another try either and I would never recommend to anyone unless you like someone to abuse you then take your money, go ahead. No redeeming qualities about this place whatsoever. If I had to say anything good about this place the tequila and the mixed drinks are good. Other than that save your money and go somewhere where the people are nice to you.

Great Mexican Food

By RobertCW85 |

Not far off the interstate. Adequate self parking and safe surroundings. Unique decor. Our first visit I got the Birria Brisket Enchilada which was excellent. Wife got the Pipkins Mole Enchilada “chicken” which was also very good. Highly recommend a side of Esquite - “grilled corn in a bowl topped with mayonnaise, chili powder, queso fresco & lime. One order is enough for two. I look forward to eating at Bone Garden again and highly recommend anyone wanting Mexican food give them try.

Good tequila and great food

Our "go to" place for Mexican food in ATL

By Joy M |

Quaint and quirky with excellent food and drinks menu. Tamales made fresh every day, tortilla soup, and tacos are wonderful! Margaritas are wonderful. The staff is very friendly and efficient. One of our favorite places to go in Atlanta.

Yum! A hidden surprise

By dixiedorena |

We were drawn to Bone Garden Cantina primarily because of the Day of the Dead (aka skeletons) motif, but were blown away by the food. What a wonderful, hidden surprise! The restaurant is near an industrial mixed-use region in NW Atlanta, one of many businesses in a modern building that makes you think you're at the wrong address. Inside, the restaurant is smaller than I anticipated but the dancing skeletons that cover the walls are fun and engaging. There was a good assortment of beer and margaritas, as well as other specialty drinks. The food menu is primarily a la carte, with a smaller selection than most mainstream Mexican restaurants but the items are very reasonably priced. The big surprise was how delicious everything was. Let me restate that: the food went beyond delicious and was outstanding. The grilled shrimp sopas were the best I've ever eaten, and the enchilladas were obviously freshly made. I had some flavorful soup with goat meat; others had a beet salad and meatball soup that were also great. We split one order of flan for dessert and it was large enough for three of us to eat our fill, even though we fought for the last bite of rich caramel. This is now my gold standard for how Mexican food should taste. [Note: Because of its small size, the restaurant filled up quickly on a Friday night. If you bring children, sit them with their back to the two out-of-place, obnoxious paintings of nude women. The rest of the decor will undoubtedly entertain them.]

Worth Stopping By

By soitgoes14 |

This place is not easy to find. It’s kind of hidden away, but look for the Skeleton as you are driving by. It is very close to H&F Bakery. Plenty of parking and very cool décor. Lots of Mexican skulls and it is a fun atmosphere. We went on a Thursday night around 7 and the patio seating was full, but we were seated right away inside. The inside filled up pretty quick as well so keep this in mind if you are planning a trip. The service was good. One minor slip up in getting a different style taco than we ordered but it seemed like just an honest mistake. I could have used a little more water at times, but they were busy. The food was overall enjoyable. We had: -Chips and Salsa- At first the salsa did not have enough kick for my taste but I grew to like it. -Carne Adobo Steak Taco- This was enjoyable but nothing special the meat was a little chewy and I would have liked to have tasted more of the guajillo chile/pepper/garlic seasoning. -Beef Barbacoa- Pretty good taco. This was good no complaints -Chile Picante- I had the one with Habanero Salsa….. I like things hot but i don’t love super hot. The first couple bits this was right on the border but the last half of the taco lit my taste buds up. I was doing anything I could to put out the fire. Obviously everyone’s different so for some this may not be hot at all, but I would say if you don’t like spicy stay away from the Habanero and if you do give it a try it impressed me with its heat. -Tamale Pollo Diablito- I don’t know if I’ve ever had a tamale before so this was kind of knew and I don’t have a base to compare it to. Cool little corn meal wrapped up with chicken and some peppers. I liked this and would like to try more. Overall I thought the food was good, but not mind blowing good. If I was in the area I would not hesitate to suggest getting dinner there especially on a nice day if you can get on the patio. They do a good job.

Great food

Absolutely amazing. I have lived in Atlanta all my life and never heard of this place until I saw it on Food Network and this placed lived up to every expectations.

Fresh

By PiczFamily |

Great fresh ingredients can be tasted in everything from the salsa to the tacos. Really fresh margaritas too. Try one of the Mexican beers they're really good. Great artwork and atmosphere.

Not worth it - Nuevo is just down the street.

By natcounts |

The food here is pretty good. Price is high for what you get. Service is absolute crap. Our waitress was also the bartender so we were frequently forgotten. Took an hour just to flag someone down to pay or bill and get on with our lives. This is also the kind of place you get to pay for chips and salsa. Strange crowd too. Save yourself some disappointment and go to Nuevo, No mas, or even La parrilla for cheap beer.

Great Mexican Food.

By Patrick C |

I love the "Fay of the Dead" decor. That's what first caught my attention. Then I stayed for the food. I usually have chips and salsa, the esqite, the chorizo empanada, and the rajas tamale. That's more than enough for me. Occasionally I have the Bone Garden salad. The cilantro-lime vinaigrette is to die for. I mean, it's so good, I could just drink it. I usually ask for a side of the vinagrette to go with the empanada and the tamale. It really enhances the flavor. Finally, and not to be missed, is the last page of the menu. Any menu that explains "we are not Senor Chucky Cheese" and gives the address of the nearest Taco Bell is not to be missed. I go here once or twice a month and am never disappointed.

Not the "best ever"

Tacos!

By Kelly N |

This was a pretty cool restaurant. The guacamole was delicious though comes in a very small dish. I love that the tacos are a la carte so you can order as much as you want. The chips are salty just the way I like it but unlike other Mexican restaurants you don't get free chips and salsa. I had the elote which I have had better elsewhere (though it was NYC). I recommend trying this place once. It is a smaller venue but has outdoor seating for when the weather is nice. It is in back of the loft area so not easy to see from the road.

Best food and atmosphere!

Some of the best food you will ever taste! With the most outstanding atmosphere and decor! Loved it!

Fantastic Food, Top Notch Service

By B T |

After hearing that this place fills up fast, we went on a Saturday at noon...filled up within 15 minutes. I would count this restaurant among my absolute favorites. 1. The Food: We had the salsa trio, which had guac, salsa, and queso to start, which came with lots of chips that were WARM! If you want an appetizer, this is the one. Our party also had the shrimp taco, chicken quesadilla, corn on the cob, and enchilda. All of them were fantastic. 2. The Service. Top notch. We were never without chips or refills of drinks. The staff really works together and you can tell they like their job. 3. The atmosphere: Eclectic and a wide-variety of people. Kids, 70+ aged couples, and everyone in between. The dress code is casual and we saw everything from people in cowboy hats to sweats to ties. Come as you are. 4. Come early! This place fills up fast, and it is easy to see why. It will be better during the warmer months since they have outdoor seating. A bit off the beaten path, but well worth it. My mouth is watering just thinking about eating there again!

Back to the Garden

By Kevin W |

Came here on a Fri night and it was pretty crowded as expected. Went to the bar to get a drink during our 30 min. wait for a table. The bar was full too but the service was very slow. Bartenders not even looking up. Granted they were busy but that's a must at a busy bar. My wife loved her margarita but mine tasted like it was made with a very bad mix. Won't be ordering that again, especially for $9+ each. We were seated outside and enjoyed great food as usual. This is an authentic, out of the way place and meal. Great value on the food, drinks are expensive for what you get.

Out-of-the-ordinary Mexican venue

By Jim W. |

Let me start by stating that I am a fan of The Vortex. I have eaten there for most of the time they've been open. So a few years ago when I read that they were opening a related Mexican restaurant, I was interested. However, the menu didn't really excite me at the time, plus the location was a long way from anywhere I normally went, so I never ended up checking it out. Fast forward to this Spring. A friend of my daughter was gifted with a tab at BG, so he treated some friends. My daughter has never been a fan of Mexican food, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that she'd been there, liked it, and wanted to return. We went there early on a Saturday evening (which was good, as it filled up fast and developed a lengthy wait). The decor is very much classic Vortex meets Day-of-the-Dead. It wasn't hard to find interesting dishes to try on the menu. I don't recall what everyone got - I think I got two different taco varieties. The food was pretty good, but seemed more 'hipster Mexican' than Tex-Mex. Whereas the Vortex took 'classic burger' and did it better, BG takes classic Mexican and does it 'different'. That doesn't mean 'bad', just different. I liked it well enough, but not as much as a large plate of similar items from my favorite 'regular' Mexican restaurant. It was also a bit pricier than standard Mexican fare. If you want something different, by all means give this place a try. Go early too. However, it would have to be some unique circumstance that would find me back there vs. a more standard Mexican place. YMMV.

Top Notch Food & Atmosphere.

By MarkButt |

A wide range of Tequila make this spot a great place to explore and try something new. The fish taco's are an excellent choice and fast service even on their busiest days makes the dining experience a great one. The wait may be a few minutes so get there a bit earlier than you plan to eat and head to the bar for a pre-dinner drink.

Just OK

By the4chams |

Went last Saturday night. Rainy and dreary, but we snagged a seat outside under an umbrella. I reallly wanted to like this place but Nuevo Laredo really set the standard. I did like the idea of the whole mix and match items vs. full meal choices. Its just that some of the options were awful. The pork tacos which I would expect to be huge chunks of slow cooked meat was teeny, tiny, dried meat swimming in pineapple juice and slapped on a corn tortilla. Sorry. That didn't cut it. The margarita options are plentiful but I just wanted your basic cadillac or top shelf. The drink came in a pretty large glass but tasted waterery. I'm sorry, if you call yourself a Mexican restaurant and you can't make a decent margarita where you KNOW you've had a margarita, you need to shut down. My 2 compliments are our waitress was bubbly and sweet and helpful. Brittney was her name. Thank you Brittney. The other item was the burrito. Excellent. I wanted to give just 2 stars for the 2 items that were good but my hubby was a little more impressed than I so one of the stars is for him. Glad to say we've tried Bone Garden but we will continue to go to Nuevo Laredo, which, by the way is open on Sundays. Bone Garden isn't.

Loved the burrito

By kurokitty |

A group of us came for lunch on Halloween -- the staff was extremely helpful getting a large dining area for us. Service was also pretty efficient and helpful in getting our drinks and food orders. I had the cerdo grande (pork) burrito, which was a nice choice. The flavors reminded me of places I've been to in California. Definitely a place I will return to so I can try other dishes.

Cool Watering Hole

By ATL_Jacket |

Bone Garden Cantina is a really fun bar with great staff. They also have awesome food and some really creative drinks. I strongly suggest the mezcal cocktails and the tamales, which are both extremely unique. The patio is extremely beautiful and great place to drink a beer on a sunny afternoon!

Best Mexican food I've ever eaten!

By tonyxrx |

My sister and I were in Atlanta for the first time ever and made our way to bone garden cantina on our second day in Atlanta. Our uber driver didn't really know where the place was which surprised me. (We also told our other uber driver who drove us to the airport and she had never heard of the place either, but we told her she had to try it) We went in around 2 on Wednesday and I believe Patrick was our server. He was a very cool guy and recommended we try the special, which my sister got and loved it! She only likes our grandmothers Mexican rice and said the special rice here tasted exactly the same! I ordered the Birria brisket Plato and a side of elote and absolutely loved every last bite! We also got the salsa trio (the salsa verde was my favorite, but in Texas chips and salsa is normally endless and free, oh well) and had a few Papi chulo margs (also had us feeling great). We tried to come back for lunch the next day before Our flight back to Texas but ran out of time. It's been a week since we've eaten here and it's all I keep telling everyone here at home about! bone garden cantina was definitely the highlight of our trip! We're so sad that we can't get the food or drinks from bone garden here in Texas! Next time I'm ever in Atlanta I'm going into to eat and then ordered another plate to go so I can't eat it later that day! I could go on and on about how amazing this restaurant is but I'll just let you go in a experience it for yourself! Ps - we were skeptical about trying Mexican food outside of Texas for some reason but nothing I've ever had in my 25 years of living here in Texas (not even in Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Lubbock or El Paso) has come close to bone garden cantina.

Good Tex-Mex in Atlanta

By Sherif A |

The food is pretty good. The price is reasonable and the portions are generous. My only complaint is that the restaurant is small and it gets crowded on Friday nights. The main problem is that there really isn't anywhere warm to wait during the Winter.

Yummy!

Fun! Most authentic and so very tasty. Great service, too. Wonderful atmosphere. Easy to find. Good vibe.

More traditional Mexican food, not the typical American version!

By Kristi W |

This is not your average Mexican cuisine, there are unique combinations that pack a ton of flavor, standing apart from what you are used to from American style Mexican food. Started with the Three Amigos, very good choice then I had the Pico De Pollo also a very good choice, for my next visit I definitely will have to try the tamales! I will be back!

Strange location, but worth searching for!

By Sron |

The food and service were excellent - outstanding. The location in an industrial park is kinda strange for dinner, but glad we sent our Uber driver there! Each of us had an excellent, although all different, margarita, and our entrees were yummy. Would definitely go again when I'm in Atlanta.

Wow - What a great tequila selection!

By hlew123 |

Order the house margarita and you won't be disappointed. Plus they have an incredible selection of other margaritas. Bone Garden has an edgy decor and is enjoyed by couples and families many who live nearby. The food is always excellent - A really fun place to have dinner.

Excellent Food

By BELLADOG7 |

This was my husband and my second trip in two weeks to eat here. It was a bit difficult to find at first and in a business district but worth it once we found it. It's fairly small but does have a wonderful outdoor seating also. The food is excellent to say the least. First of course the chips and salsa which were very good. I ordered shrimp Verde flour tortilla taco's. Yummm! Excellent!!! They did fill the tacos with a lot of shrimp which most places skimp on that. Also got a chicken burrito but I could only eat a bit or two of it because I was already full on the shrimp taco. The burrito was really, really good also. I really don't remember what my husband got but he is a lot more adventurous then I am when it comes to food. They do offer a lot of different items if you like to explore off the beaten path. The staff was very, very friendly and made you feel welcome. I hope you try the restaurant I know you won't regret going. Enjoy!!!

Okay- so we met our son who loves the place- I had margarita partida which was great but pricey $9.50 ! If you want chips, dip, guacamole that's $9.50 for chips with queso, salsa & guacamole- was it good ? Yes the guacamole was very good along with the salsa & queso- I opted for the tongue & goat tacos with rice & beans at additional cost! I never had either and thought it might be fun to try- bad idea!! The tongue was like cubes of pink looking almost like thick bologna but texture was sort of floppy & mushy- since I've never had that there was no way to compare- I just didn't like it- same with the goat- it was fatty did not taste as I expected!! Rice & beans were big disappointment! Rice dry -no flavor- beans dark almost black - the mere color was for me not appetizing- altogether I could have survived with margarita, chips, salsa & queso. I'm just offering my opinion about my experience. My son had chicken tacos & hubby steak tacos- both enjoyed their meal - I probably got the wrong thing & if I ever return I'll know what not to get!!

Just Plain Average

By Steve C |

I went here with a friend of mine. It's hard to find since it's in an apartment complex I think. Anyway, I ordered chips & salsa, an horchata drink, and two tacos. Sad to say, Taco Bell has better food and is less expensive. Each small taco was $3.50 and didn't taste very good. Plus, the horchata had too much cinnamon in it. I would not go again. The total bill came to $11.28 My friend even said it was just alright. Not sure why it is rated high on Yelp. The waiter was a bit of a jerk too.

Fun place! Great food! Great service!

By Johnny Dewitt |

I love this place! Not only is it around the corner from my home, I think the décor is way cool! The food is good, I have never been disappointed, although I get pretty much the same thing every time I go. The Goat taco is really really good, along with the Lemon chicken taco. My favorite drink there is the Jamaica (pronounced Ha'micah). They periodically feature tequila tastings that I've not been able to attend yet, because it seems like they always happen on days which I have to work....lol. The owner, Kristen, is really sweet, I go there so much that she knows who I am and gives me a hug every time I'm there. One of my most favorite things about this place is the service. Not sure if it is because I'm a regular or they are just really nice. Rebecca is my favorite server! She has the best attitude and is such a sweetie! I love the place because the energy is so good there. I enjoy each and every time I go! cover photo Ryan Bares's profile photo

My wife and I are both from out west and this is the best Mexican you will find in Atlanta (that I know of). This is not a tex mex place so if that's what you're looking for this place may not be for you.

Popular spot - prepare to wait but worth it

By SDP40 |

The location is a bit remote but from the long queue this place is not a secret. The only reason I gave it a 4 was because were were told 25-30 min wait but was actually 50 which was a bit off. However once seated, service was great, food was delicious and Marguerites strong. Fun place to hang out by bar if not too busy. Saw the staff get lots of hassle from people trying to jump their place in the queue but they made it work and got tables turned around quickly which was great. Advice go early or prepare to wait.

Some of the very best Mexican food ever. I love the authentic and whimsical variations they put on plates. Amazing tamales, ridiculously good tacos, even the goat soup was wonderful. The atmosphere is second to none. Great place for any meal on any day with any company. True pleasure filming at this location. I highly recommend.

a friend recommended we try this restaurant near the west midtown Atlanta area. the mojitos are amazing best I have had in atlanta. the chips are freshly made the guacamole very chunky creamy goodness. The food is spicy but very well prepared. I had the steak quesadilla flavorful, the meat very tender. The cheese dip was a little watery and very spicy. Everyone enjoyed their dinner at our table. service was exceptional. Will try it again. the decor is so fun. Great casual place to go.

The previous review was right. Isn’t really Tex-Mex. but it is great tasting. The queso was solid. We tried the enchiladas and chimichanga. The drinks are smooth, not bitter tequila. We make time to go to this restaurant every time we visit Atlanta. It's always packed with locals so you know it's good. The food is great and prices are good. The decor is very interesting and you will spend half your meal checking out the walls. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable.

LOVED this place

Upscale Mexican, artsy, muertos fun + delicious food and friendly service! The lamb chops were to die for.

Amazing decor!!

By TalulaVoss |

This was such a fun experience! !! The decor inside is simply amazing....and PACKED from wall to wall and ceiling ...with Dia de la Muertos decorations. I love it so much! Is great for family or dates alike. The menu is great. ...with pretty original dishes. Very TexMex style. THEY SELL BARBACOA!! So hard to find around here. Reminded me of being in San Antonio Tx. Highly recommend trying it out!!

A grade above typical Mex fare with great atmosphere

By Cowslower |

First off, try the Red Goat soup. Seriously, I'd never tried goat, but I can now cross that off my list and say I was happier for being adventurous. The Day of the Dead is the theme of the day at Bone Garden (and it's a very cool place in terms of decor, feel and an overall chill tenor), and the food - which ranges from traditional fare (tacos, enchiladas, etc.) to the more authentic (empanadas, which were OUTSTANDING with chorizo) and the aforementioned Red Goat Soup - was all delivered hot, flavorful and truly complex in taste and depth. Service was superb, they have an extensive tequila inventory (anejo, reposado, all the way to interesting and varied mezcal choices), and the vibe was distinctive and confident. This is a place that knows what it is doing, and does it with zest and vigor. I rarely give five stars, but the meal here was simply superb and executed with style and panache. My Mexican standards have grown high over time, and I can pay Bone Garden a great compliment by saying that I'd go well out of my way to eat there again.

Eclectic authenticity

By mikemullinsbrake |

First i would describe the atmosphere as energetic the location is a bit odd but accessible the waitstaff was very helpful since it was our first time perusing the menu. The food is definitely not the regular#7 or burrito with beans snd rice. Food was prepared quickly and served hot. I love the different ingredients that makes it a special treat. We will be back. Try the corn yum yumm

Fall in love with the food

By William T |

An explosion of color and off beat Day of the Dead décor with lots of whimsical skeletons, create an unusually fun atmosphere. But it’s the food that made me fall in love with Bone Garden Cantina. It’s billed as authentic Mexican, not Americanized, which means you won’t get chips with salsa when you sit down. The menu is totally ala carte, which means you need to put some thought into your order, but you get to sample lots of different things. I chose a chorizo empanada (wonderful and my favorite), a brisket enchilada (excellent) and a shrimp sope, a corn masa cup topped with sautéed garlic shrimp, guajillo peanut sauce, refried black beans, cabbage, cilantro and queso fresco (dry and not something I’d order again). My partner loved the ceviche and the chicharron taco, but the tongue taco didn’t live up to his expectations. Even those items we didn’t fall in love with popped with fresh flavor. If you’ve been to Agave, then you’ve found the city’s best margarita, but these were pretty darn good. So good we needed a pitcher! Waits on the weekend are long, noise levels are high, but it’s such a fun, engaging place you really don’t mind. What you remember is the food.

Delicious

By Christina A |

The food was delicious and the ambiance was nice. Service was great. You must try a margarita and elote. I’ll definitely return for the Camerones. Delicious!

Carne Asada

By Robert C |

This place has pretty cool atmosphere and I have had good lunches here is the past. I ordered carne asada medium. Most restaurants this comes out as a skirt steak. What was served was more like a Cuban palomilla steak and was overlooked.

Great Food

By baseballseven |

We were trying to find a place for dinner while in Atlanta and saw the reviews for the Bone Garden online and decided to try. The food was amazing. Everyone enjoyed everything that they had! It is in a building at the back of a parking lot. Portions are not huge, but they taste wonderful. The decorations are very interesting. If I am in the area again, I would go back.

A Little off the Beaten Path

By Debbie H |

I have eaten at this restaurant twice and haven't been disappointed either time. It's kind of hidden away, but packed with atmosphere. If you're looking for a different Mexican restaurant, then this is your place. The pork dishes are especially tasty.

A nice place to dine or drink.

By StockholmKindaGuy |

The interior of this small Mexican restaurant is a feast for the eyes, with all of it's Day of the Dead imagery. Located in a former industrial building, Bone Garden has seating both inside and out. Bone Garden's menu has an array of Mexican dishes, along with some daily specials. No real surprises. I had the Chimichangas. They were excellent, some of the best I've ever had. Chips and salsa were included. All our food arrived in a short amount of time. The service here is friendly and they have a full bar. A nice place to dine or drink.

SO GOOD!!!

By M10N |

Salsa on point!! Shrimp Corn Tortillas, the best! Barbacoa and Shredded Chicken Enchiladas, delicious!! Cool location in Mid-town, great service!

Hidden Gem!!

This place has an AWESOME day of the dead atmosphere and very delicious AUTHENTIC Mexican food! My family and I look forward to our next visit.

Out of the way gem

By Vince C |

Tucked deep inside a European-style open space office complex and not evident from the outside drab parking area, this little gem serves a nice selection of tasty Mexican style dishes at more than reasonable prices for Atlanta. Limited vegetarian and beer options the only downside. Service was excellent.

Busy and crowded but good food and drinks

By Jennifer R |

We went mid-afternoon on a Saturday and waiting probably 20-30 minutes, unfortunately once we were seated we still had some trouble getting waited on. The good news was the margaritas and specialty cocktails were great and the food was excellent. We had tacos and the special quesadilla and chips and Salsa. Everyone was happy with their orders and my husband was impressed by the Lengua tacos which are an unusual find. Traveled here with a 10 month old and had no trouble with the high chair or finding plain sides to feed him.

Authentic Mexican... With a Twist.

By AmandalikeCrazy |

I visited here with my fiance and parents when visiting Atlanta. We love Mexican food and were excited to try something different. This isn't like your typical Mexican restaurant, the flavors are very unique and complex, definitely delicious! We tried a bit of everything and weren't at all disappointed, I was even pleasantly surprised by the hibiscus flower taco. Anything with the chihuahua cheese will leave you asking for more! This is a definite must-visit, even if just to see the awesome decor. We'll be back!

Unique place with a great Atmophere

By Dogdayzing |

This cool little hideaway way a bit hard to find but was well worth looking for. Service is on point. Bar was fun, beer was cold and the tacos we had were fantastic. I definitely want yo come back here to hang out. I could spent hours looking at e eclectic art on the wall.

Know what your getting

By Everlasting A |

Make sure you know exactly what you are getting. Even if you take one bit out of something that is under $5. They will not give you a refund. They will take the food back but its going to stay on your check. The bartenders are amazing tho. Management *3 thumbs down* Adrian is an awesome server. The female manager slim black with curly hard. Disrespectful.

Great food!

By Karen B |

This place is awesome. The food is delicious, friendly and fast service. Quality food. Great outdoor seating area and funky atmosphere inside.

Great Food, Nice Atmosphere

By craig1086 |

Came here for a dinner pickup after work. When I arrived, they weren't busy at all. I ordered the spicy pork burrito & the birria queso empanada. Both were good, but that spicy burrito was amazing. The heat level was perfect without being overpowering. Service was great and the staff was nice. I'll be back for more of the menu.

No COVID Mask

At this time with the Covid protocols none of the employees were warring the mask it was very scary to dine there I wanted to complain to the health department 😡😡😡😩

The corn on the cob is a must have ,, 5 stars

By dans5371 |

This is a cool place , the décor is amazing . its a little load when crowded but the food makes up for it . the beet salad makes me like beets again. great job , service is slow when busy ,but on second visit it was less crowded and perfect .

The best Mexican restaurant inside the perimeter.

By Mike M |

Bone Garden is an experience, it is not your run of the mill strip mall Mexican food. Don't get me wrong, everyone needs a speedy and some cheap Margaritas at times but don't expect that here. Both the food and the drinks are lovingly crafted by folks who care about quality and authenticity, bear that in mind if your order isn't in the waiters hand the moment you order, real food takes time. My tamales here were the best I've ever had and the selection of tacos is excellent and speaks to the adventurous palete more than most restaurants. I try to visit Mexico at least twice each year, and this food, while appealing to American tastes is as close to authentic as possible.

A little piece of Mexico in ATL

By MTSeet |

Where can a Mexican citizen can find great authentic food in Atlanta? ... You got it! Here at Bone Garden Cantina you can find not only excellent, delicious dishes and drinks but you will find an overall EXPERIENCE with the Day of the Day atmosphere surrounding you in a FUN way. We have been here several times and all we have ordered is gone from our plates, plenty of options for all tastes, even picky children will love the flavorful quesadillas. Thank you so much for bringing to life an important part of my Mexican culture for all to enjoy in Atlanta. I recommend to everyone that ask me for the best Mexican food in town-besides mine : ) !

Can you just forget about the other Mexican food you've had?

By KiaraHarvey |

The answer is yes, you can after a visit to Bone Garden Cantina. I am an equal lover of all things edible, but Latin, Mexican or Spanish-inspired cuisine done well is to die for, especially in a city full of gastropubs and smokehouses. We chose a perfect Saturday afternoon, so the outdoor patio was in full swing. Maybe you enjoy the soft whine of classical music while you dine. Maybe you've come to expect stiff waiters in long-sleeved shirts and ties. This isn't that place. The atmosphere here is lively, the crowd is eclectic and the staff are allowed to sport their individuality in the forms of long hair, tattoos and anything in between. If you're like me, you really appreciate a place where the focus is on the food. This is that place. Start with a salsa and queso combination, and also, a stiff margarita of any flavor. While my boyfriend and constant dining companion opted for a quesadilla, I went for the mole plate -- two chicken enchiladas topped with green mole salsa, fresh veggies and queso fresco -- because when you have an opportunity to try a mole, you try the mole. "I've never seen you eat this much!" is all he could say as he watched me clean the last bit of sauce from the plate. For less daring diners, the menu does feature classic Mexican fare like burritos, tacos and tamales. There's a full bar inside, as well. You won't find that the menu at BGC is overwhelming, as is the case for many local Mexican and Mexican-inspired establishments; there's a causal vibe that's welcoming to couples, groups and families, and the food here is as vibrant as it is fresh and satisfying. BGC is an absolute gem and a tough act to follow.

Nice little place that lives up to its name.

By Aaron K |

This is a fun little funky place. Just check out the decor in the pictures! The drinks are great. Lots of tequila of course. I especially liked the beekeeper - tequila, liqueur, juice, and honey with a crystallized honey rim. The guacamole was very good, enchiladas excellent, and esquite (corn) fantastic. Go. Have some food and a couple of drinks, and enjoy yourself.

Best authentic Mexican food so far in the South!

By LGGA |

Took cousins from California to find this hidden gem of a Mexican food restaurant. The food is bursting with flavor - even the tamale, puerco azteca, (which are usually dry, mealy or just plain flavorless) was moist and tastey. We had a variety of dishes, including a tomatillo broth (so delish!), all of which were excellent. Tacos de lengua and barbacoa, rice and beans, salsa - everything great. Menu is a la carte - don't forget the sides! Restaurant decor is Day of the Dead with an industrial feel and very cool. Service is quick. We came for lunch on a Monday and it was not busy. There were a few customers seated outside and a smattering inside. I can imagine evenings here are filled quickly as it's not a huge place. Will return soon for dinner. One caveat - it's not the easiest place to find. It's located on the backside of a strip mall and signage is very small. Once you turn in to parking lot, follow the lot around to the other side. Restaurant is at the end. Worth the effort!

Best Mexican in Atlanta

By Ryan W |

I have been taking people here for the past 4 years and not one person has been disappointed yet. I love Bone Garden! Get the duck enchilada's and a hand made margarita!

A very eclectic environment.

By Steven D |

This was recommended as a very good Mexican authentic restaurant. I was decorated with a very large assortment of unique skeletons - Night of the Dead. The food was very good and the prices were reflective of the quality provided. I was pleased with the recommendation.

Great restaurant!

By Paris j |

This was my 1st time here and the service, the food, and the margaritas were excellent! I cannot remember my servers names, but she was very nice and lively!

Fresh, authentic dishes

By Vanessa G |

I love that they have traditional birria on the menu, tamales, etc - along with the usual burritos and tacos. I'd say their margaritas are top notch. The place is a little small, so get there early or wait an hour for a table. The bar is extremely busy, so getting a to go order is not easy some times. Also, the servers are very busy. You have to flag people down usually.

It’s all good!

By TraveledMilesPerHour |

I’ve been coming here with family and friends for a couple of years now it seems. I travel to Mexico fairly often with work and my tastes have evolved from Tex-Mex to authentic Mexican over that time. I love the Bone Garden for it’s excellent food, great atmosphere, good margaritas and fair prices. The menu is not extensive, but it’s all good. It’s truly a hidden gem! Cheers!

Don’t Waste Your Time; Piss Poor Staff, Mediocre Food, Unique Decor

By Tacia O |

The decor is all this place has going for it. The food was decent, maybe it’s just what we ordered, or the staff not listening. The staff is HORRID. Location nothing to rave about. We came in on a week night thinking they closed at 11. Our mistake, we were rudely advised that they closed in 10 minutes, 10pm, right upon walking in. We had found this restaurant on trip advisor while planning our trip and noted it because of the great reviews, and neat pictures. We were actually looking forward to this place until we were not welcomed at all. With our party of two being waitresses in the past and running a motel, we had expected a little more friendliness and we usually are pretty understanding when it comes to these kind of jobs. However, we don’t think it’s acceptable to basically have out menus thrown at us, have to ask for lemon to put in our water twice, get a shrimp enchilada when a beef one was requested, not be able to ask for anything more than the absolute necessities, and then when trying to leave this tacky business loft building, being gated in the parking lot. We both understand the irritating feeling of when people come in right before closing, but there’s no excuse to give this sh*tty of service. Any restaurant shouldn’t even start their closing duties until the closing time, not have it all done by then. We wanted another taco which had simple ingredients, that we really wouldn’t have cared if the bartender went back and even microwaved it for us since all of the stuff was shut down. But, not having a single bit of customer service, was too lazy to even attempt. We left him a $3 dollar tip and later regretted even leaving anything. In normal cases, with us coming in so late and if we would’ve received just the standard of service, we would’ve for sure left the amount of the bill as a tip. We ordered was “beef”, which came shrimp enchiladas, a shrimp taco, and a tamale, with water and lemon, not asking a lot. We heard the staff using foul language, which isn’t a big deal for us, but we were very let down by this place so it’s all coming out. However, there was one guy who was kind, out of all the staff. He gave us a little bundle of like coasters or brochures since we told him how we were looking forward to this place when we left South Dakota. He even wanted to chat about our vacation briefly when we were walking out, we just weren’t really in the mood to stick around any longer in the place that was mad that we left 10 minutes after closing. I wish we would’ve got his name, but he had a dark beard, darker longer hair, and taller medium build. We almost wished we could’ve given him our tip instead and he didn’t even wait on us. We really hope he can get recognition for being the glimmer of hope in your place. Folks, if you wanna see the cool decoration of the place, then go. Hopefully you’ll be there in the daytime with friendlier staff. The food couldn’t make me return again either.

loved it; can't wait to return

By Amanda H |

This place is right up my alley! It is so much fun, and the decor is amazing! The service was incredible, and the food was yummy, too. I wish I lived closer -- I'm pretty sure this place would be my "Friday night hang out." I got tacos and a side of corn on the cob (go with the authentic version that's loaded up with goodness). You can't help but to have a good time here! Oh, and the spicy margarita! So good!

Hard to find, Good flavor, Huge portions, Meh Staff

By ssbrandes |

First off finding this place is not for the faint of heart. Luckily, my daughter has a studio not far away at The Goat Farm and knew the backroad nuances to get us here and back without so much of a fight with traffic. You'll be turning off Ellesworth Industrial into what looks like an old lumber yard turned office park. Watch for the oncoming drivers as you travese the lot all the way to the back of the complex and then around and all the way to the front on the other side. Folks don't seem to remember there is two way traffic inside the lot and it can be a little interesting. Once you've found the place, parking is generous and easy. Then up a few stairs and you're presented with the option of outdoor or indoor dining. Outdoor is probably fantastic when the weather is a bit better, but both times I've visited it's been cold, windy and/or light rain so we've sat inside. See the hostess either way for seating. There have been other comments here about the surliness of the host/hostess. While ours both times have not been bubbly teenie-boppers, they have certainly not been surly or unpleasant. I seldom judge a place on it's host/hostess unless they are downright out and out rude. Seating is primarily tables vs booths. There is also a large bar across the back of the place. There's great light from the large high windows and the decor is fun Day of the Dead and bright colors. Wait staff is individual and quirky as befits the place. We've had pleasant waitresses both times, though their attention wasn't the greatest and we've had to hunt them down both times to get our needs met or check on missing order items. We visited both times mid afternoon (around 2) so well outside the normal lunch or dinner rush times. Both times the restaurant was still busy but not crowded. Service may have been a bit more laid back as nobody seemed rushed or bothered by the relaxed (slow) service. Certainly we weren't as we had planned leisurely time together over our food and drink. In both visits the waitress could have secured a larger tip had she followed through on drinks (alcohol). The first visit, my daughter let the waitress know she'd want to order a drink when her food arrived. It was delivered by a runner and the waitress didn't check back with us until we were about 1/2 finished so we stuck with our water. The second visit, the drink was ordered when we placed our food order but just plain never delivered. Again 1/2 finished we had to flag down our waitress to ask her to remove it from the order and check. Food is the main draw for me here. Portions are generous and we've enjoyed what we've ordered. My disappointment was the chorizo empanada which was flaky outside but just too darn salty inside. The small size was perfect for my appetite along with a salad so I might give the shrimp version a try on another visit. Beyond that I've enjoyed the Betabel Salad which was nice sized and full of freshness and flavor. Light and wonderful, I'd have it again anytime. The fresh guac and chips is yummy but, in my opinion, far too many of the lovely light chips and too little of the guac when sharing with others. It would be nice if they offered a couple of size choices for sharing. I've had a couple of the daily specials when visiting as well. My first experience was a green chile and chicken pazole which was AMAZING! Loaded with white meat chicken, green chiles, potatoes, veggies and hominy, it was everything I could have hoped for east of New Mexico. I've also sampled my daughter's Pork Torta-torta bread filled with chipotle pulled pork and then topped with lettuce, queso fresco, avocado, cilantro, pickled red onion and sour cream. It was heavenly and so large she had to take 1/2 home for dinner. Our other samplings were on a Taco plate with one each of the Flor de Jamaica taco (a vegetarian offering with Hibiscus Flowers, avocado, jicama, carrot and other goodies-interesting and really lovely tastes!), on Lengua (beef tongue-not my choice but my daughter loved it) and one Barbacoa de Chivo (goat with veggies and salsa verde-nice flavorful option) all plated with black beans and rice. Again, more food than could be consumed at lunch and leftovers went home for dinner. All in all, we'll visit again as this place is convenient to the studio, the food is good and the prices very very reasonable for the large portions. I guess if the staff were downright rude, we'd probably not come back, and I'd certainly not be likely to visit during busy times, but that's me.

Mexican with a California authenticity

By linda D |

Very flavorful Mexican cuisine. Awesome food, drink and staff. Sat outside and enjoyed the fall weather. Pitches of margaritas were flowing. Great salsa, chips and fresh guacamole. Will definitely visit again. Good service and delicious food.

A MEXICAN ADVENTURE

By Mark H |

Saw this restaurant on a Georgia PBS show and had to try it. It was a challenge to find but well worth it. We arrived mid afternoon on a Saturday and were immediately seated outside. Our server was a little testy at first but all in jest so we played along. We ordered margaritas and they were special so we ordered more later. We tried the special Molcajete Guerrero and it was more than enough for two and quite a variety of special flavors. The tamale and empanadas were also very tasty. Trust your GPS and circle all the way around to the other side of the complex and you won't be disappointed.

It's good, but I don't get the hype

By SDR |

The food is very solid Americanized Mexican, but from the hype (and the rather obnoxious list of 'house rules' on the menu) you'd think Rick Bayless cloned himself on the west side of Atlanta. Excellent tequila selection, very large portions, and good execution throughout. I like the place, but I wouldn't wait for long time for a seat... there are other acceptable substitutes that don't have the herd mentality or the attitude.

great food and fun

By pamhightower |

what a fun place . The staff were upbeat and helpful , the food was delicious! I will be back for fun , festivities and delicious food.

Lunch

By Mitch |

Located in an old lumber yard, I enjoyed my first trip to the Bone Garden. The atmosphere was pleasant, the staff friendly and attentive and the Beef Brisket great.

Really good vibe - great food

By Greg S |

Really enjoyed this. Crowded, but great eats. In an eccentric, industrial location, but this area should grow over time with Top Golf coming in.

Poor Customer Service

By Emrayman |

We were literally kicked out of Bone Garden for returning a cocktail this evening. We ordered several drinks, appetizers and food. 3 of the 4 drinks were good but the mango margarita was BAD. We tried to return it and were told we would still be charged, additionally the manager was extremely rude to us and kicked us out! Don't waste your time or money!!!!

A gem hidden away

By Tammy B |

What a great spin on Mexican food. So fresh and good. You get to order a la carte so you get just what you want. My squash blossom taco was amazing! The decor is colorful and funny. The staff is helpful and friendly. What a wonderful dinner tucked away in an office park!

trip to the ATL

for the last three years this is always a must go to place, every time we visit Atl. In a warehouse area very eclectic. good food fair prices

Incredible

By AKBGa |

I have eaten at this establishment a few times and it is always fantastic. The guacamole and queso dip are excellent. The salsa is always fresh and tasty. I had the chilaquiles which was an incredible dish with large portions. The tacos are also excellent. Try the goat! A bit off the beaten path but a nice find in Atlanta.

Good Mexican, but the music was way too loud

By Jeff M |

My companies headquarters is based in this office park, shared by Bone Garden Cantina. I loved the decor of this restaurant. Didn't get the feeling it belonged in an office park which is a compliment. I had a Taco special which included beans, rice which was very good. I usually have hard taco's but wasn't offered that choice. The service was very good by the staff. My only complaint and it's a large one, is that for whatever reason they play very loud music here. I doubt there is anyone coming to this restaurant for the music. It's about the food Bone Garden, and you have good food. I took a partner to this place and he's soft spoken so it made it next to impossible for me to understand everything that he was saying. I spoke to a few of my co-workers and they said it is always loud. I'm afraid the food along wouldn't bring me back to this place. Lower the music so people can have a normal conversation, and I will be back.

Pretty good food...and definitely a funky environment

By HGLAW |

I've been a regular at BGC since it opened. I've always found the service to be very good. The food isn't cheap - if you're looking for a $5.00 a-plate-two-taco-rice-and-beans Mexican joint, this ain't it. The ingredients in the tacos are fresh and spiced enough. As others have pointed out, the decoration of the place is Day of The Dead. It's in an old lumberyard in trendy West Midtown - I think it's worth a stop to see if it matches your idea of Mexican - caveat: it will not match everyone's.

Looks Are Deceiving

By Rhenda B |

When we arrived at an office complex I was a little concerned and then realized we were there on the day of a local graduation wasn't sure I wanted to stay. The place is small and was crowded but we only had to wait a short time. The food was very good. Highly recommend the grilled corn. Would definitely visit again.

Hip Mexican

By Chickelbuck |

Bone Garden is a little hard to find but for a cool-vibe Mexican place, it is worth it. Very “Day of the Dead” decor makes it fun with good food. They carry a great assortment of gourmet margaritas- NOT the slushy machine generic style. The food is authentic Mexican with a modern twist. We loved our margaritas - on the rocks a Partida Rita and a Papi Chulo Rita. Crispy, hot, chips and pretty mild salsa. I asked for their most popular taco- the Carne Adobo. It was delicious! Grilled steak was so tender. Truly street taco- sized. We split the shrimp Ceviche. It had large marinated shrimp complete with huge chunks of avocado. Very refreshing and delicious. Had a really good time here and will definitely return when we can stay longer!

Delicious but cheap eats! GREAT drink selection

By Alexia N |

The shrimp enchiladas are THE BEST! And they have the most phenomenal drink selection (tequilas). The staff is just awesome here. Lots of high quality food for the money, and it's an interesting place to see! Their sangria is some of the best I've ever had. Be warned, they do get super busy on the weekend nights, but it's usually not a completely unreasonable wait. Especially since you can hang out at the bar and try something from their interesting selection!

Off the beaten path but delicious!

By Mizleslie5785 |

Very different decor from typical Mexican restaurants - colorful folk art inspired by Mexico’s Day of the Dead holiday. Works well! Definitely can tell there is a tie to the Vortex, another good spot to eat. Food is wonderful - came to try the queso dip which I had read was one of the best in town - has chorizo in it and a great taste. The enchiladas were very good as well. Highly recommend it!

Steve from Atlanta is dead on...

By zkirbs |

TA needs. "Like" button. I started to copy the review posted by Steve from Atlanta. He is spot on, but here's my take: it is really a tequila bar, so if you are into different types of tequilas and mezcals then go for those. I am a craft beer fan, and there are a few choices in bottles, but only one draft which was disappointing. The decor is very unique and interesting. As for the food, it just isn't spectacular enough to justify the weight, prices, marginal service, and the spartan outdoor seating option. But I guess the real kicker is the famous list of house rules on the back of the menu. I don't know how the management thinks that any reasonable customer would read these and not get a little offended by the snarkiness. Well, I guess I am just not cool enough to be a regular at this place, so I won't be...

Owners: YOU SHOULD STICK TO HAMBURGERS!!!!!!

By 279lynnec |

After reading that the same owners as the Vortex had opened this place, I thought surely it would be really good because the Vortex food is great. If this food was authentic I really do not EVER want to go to Mexico. It was the blandest food I have ever tasted. We started with the Three Amigos and was only impressed with the queso. The salsa wasn't good at all and the guacamole was probably average. The chips were excellent as they were thin which we really liked. And the place was decorated really good. But the buck stops there. The food was bland with absolutely no taste. There were four of us and not one person at the table enjoyed their meal and we had THREE Different dishes. If you call it a meal. My dish and my fiance's dish was nothing to it. I get more food at Taco Bell than this place. I also tried the corn with mayo & cheese. Disgusting ..... that's all I can say about that. We ordered four meals, one appetizer (being the chips and three dips), two beers and two margaritas for a GRAND total of $68 (without tip). The beer was $5.75 a piece which was average but the two margaritas came in what I would call a 4-5 oz glass and were $9 a piece. Not to mention they virtually had no alcohol in them. At least we couldn't taste it OR feel anything from it. And the REAL kick in the teeth was that our LUNCH was $68.00 without tax. Read the menu before you go. Trust me. The waitress was good and explained everything quite well. When we left she asked us how it was knowing that it was our first time. I told her "it was different". She seemed surprised. We will definitely NOT go back and at $68 for lunch we'll be eating Ramen noodles for the rest of the week.

Good food

By StevenHScher |

We had a nice meal at dinner. The decor in Bone Garden is very interesting, day of the dead decor. A very nice menu. I had the Camarones. It was quite spicy & came with rice & refried beans. The Britta brisket was also very good & spicy. Our friend had the spare ribs. They were delicious. Our server was great. The food coming out of the kitchen was slow, not the servers fault. This was a good meal.

Best Mexican ever

By localnsb |

This place was recommended by someone and it was a great find. It is nestled in an industrial complex but worth the hunt. The food is authentic and delicious. The decor is all Day of the Dead inspired and looks great. Try the pork tamale or shrimp enchilada. Go on your birthday and get the free shot.

I am really picky when it comes to Mexican food, because I enjoy good Mexican food :) I did not know what to expect from Bone Garden Catina, it was a bit out of our way (being tourist), but decided to give it a try. I am glad we walked into this colorful restaurant with some of the friendliest service I have ever had. The food was great and the drinks were too! We enjoyed sopes, tamales and enchiladas, all were GREAT!!!

Average Mexican Food

About a 35-40 Minute wait. that being said our waitress very nice attentive and service was fast & very good. The food on the other hand nothing special at all just plain average. Would we go again probably not. We saw this place on the Travel Channel, they probably gave it time for the décor which is unique & colorful for their show. But I don't think they gave a good critique on the food. If you don't mind average Mexican food, and don't mind waiting awhile it may be ok for others, I don't understand why the popularity of this place.
