Best brunch I’ve ever had 💓

By Loren Ryland |

I have two new loves. There names are: Lobster Roll Benedict Triple Berry Churro French Toast I’m thinking a June wedding?

Worth the wait!

By Primascopy |

Although staying downtown Chicago, five of us converged on this original Bongo Room location for a breakfast meeting after a glowing recommendation from an out-of-country friend. (Thanks Jan!) We ordered five dishes to share family style and it was difficult for some to choose which was the best. Our fearless leader came for the chocolate French Toast, but a few of us agreed the Eggs Benedict were to die for--perhaps the best we've ever eaten. Business was brisk on the Saturday morning we dined here, but a few had arrived early to get our name on the list. So by the time the last one arrived, our table was ready within minutes. Orange juice was fresh squeezed, coffee was a bottomless cup and kept full. Flavor combinations were innovative and unique. Portions are HUGE. We could have easily ordered one less entree than people present. Let the photos speak to the deliciousness that we enjoyed.

A bit of a wait and okay but not great

By jazzyart |

I was expecting great things. This place was air conditioned within an inch of its life and a bit dark. It was hot and sunny outside. But it was packed. We were sat near an air vent so had to put our bags over it to keep warm. Food was okay. Ordered an omelette but the fillings were added into the middle rather than mixed in. I have had better I must admit. Good coffee. Pancakes looked amazing. Maybe that's what I should have ordered!!!

Great food!! The best!!

By agatone |

Excellent food quality, good atmosphere. The service was fine, considering all the people were there. The place was clean. The best breakfast I ever ate in Chicago!

Very accommodating to vegetarians. Plentiful food

By WorkPlayEat |

Had lunch at the Bongo room. The portions were enormous and everyone enjoyed their order. We are vegetarians and the server and kitchen were very accommodating. The meals were very reasonably priced

It was okay

By Jodi B |

We visited the Bongo Room on April 19, 2014. It is a very small place. We had to wait for about 30 minutes. We went with the hopes of ordering salads. They only serve breakfast/brunch on Saturday/Sunday. We were disappointed, but decided to stay. I had the breakfast burrito it was okay, nothing to write home about. I would not go back on a Saturday or Sunday, but we would like to try their salads. EVERYONE was very nice and friendly. We walked from our condo on Illinois Street, but we are big hikers, the best option would be to go by bus if you don't wish to walk...it is not in the loveliest part(s) of ORD. Blessings, and enjoy if you go ;) Jodi & Scott

Our best stop in Chicago

By Dparke3 |

We were very excited to go to Wicker Park when we saw the pictures of The Bongo Room online. And then reading the menu made me even more excited!!! We walked by it without even realizing it was there. So you really need to keep your eyes open. But once you're inside it's beautiful and eclectic. My wife is a vegetarian and got eggs an potatoes which was a generous delicious portion. I got the Caramelized Apple Pancakes with cinnamon mousse. I have dreamt about them since. I can't wait to go back to eat there again. I highly recommend going here. I haven't been to the other 2 locations but since we loved the Wicker Park area so much we probably won't bother with the other ones. This is the one!

Best brunch in town!!

By Jenhfoodie |

White chocolate and caramel pretzel pancakes are the best thing I've ever eaten!! Get them for yourself or for the table to share you won't be disappointed. Have been a regular for over 10 years and nothing on the menu disappoints! Service is always great!!

Living of your past reputation can only last so long

By Martin R |

Mediocre faire at an outrageous price. If you charge $4.50 for a cup of coffee, it should not be lukewarm and taste like ash, and should not be served with half&half in little plastic creamer cups. Same goes for for the Chai. At $6 it should be amazing but it was not even worth finishing Yes, they replaced the cold coffee with hot ashen coffee, but the next refill was cold again. And if you charge almost $20 for an omelette, do not serve it with cheap jam and forget to toast the toast. The quality and service did not match the $142 for breakfast for 4 incl. tax, fees, and tip (w/o alcohol) and there are better and cheaper options around.

A solid neighborhood spot for breakfast or lunch

By divenuts |

The Bongo Room is always a solid choice for breakfast, brunch or lunch. We especially like the juices and the omelets but have also enjoyed the burritos, avocado toast etc and the salads at lunch time are lovely. I always find it odd that they only serve eggs benedict on the weekends but that's hardly a deal breaker. Friendly service, pleasant surroundings. Recommended !

Lots of great food, and coffee refilled

By CarolMemphis4 |

We ate here twice during our trip. The food is delicious and plentiful. Price is right. It was crowded after 10am but a wait is worth it. Eat breakfast here!

Sunday Brunch

By Marian O |

Great Sunday brunch. Fantastic omelettes and stack of pancakes. Not for the faint hearted - very generous portions. Friendly staff. Be prepared to queue - very popular place but food well worth the short wait.

Divine!

By Stephanie |

Definitely worth the wait. I ordered the carmelized pear french toast and it was amazing. My husband had eggs benedict and said it too was awesome. We'll be back next time we visit Chicago.

My Favorite Brunch in Chicagoland

By Renée C |

Everything is so delicious! Pancakes, french toast, omelets... i could go on! I had the eggs benny this time, and it was definitely the best hollandaise i've had in my life! There is always a long wait to get in, but it's completely worth it. Put your name in and walk over to Wormhole coffee (like 2 or 3 doors down) and get a latte and a macaroon while you wait!

Best Breakfast

By Panda0601 |

Key Lime Cheesecake Pancakes. That's really all it took to get me in there. And it should be all it takes to get you in there too. They are as ridiculously awesome as they sound. We went on a Wednesday morning and got a table straight away. On the Saturday and Sunday the queue was out the door. If you've got the time, it's totally worth the queue. If not, make sure you get there on a weekday. Oh, and the coffee mugs are pleasingly chunky. I wanted to steal one (I didn't, obviously).

Don't let the line scare you away!

By SecondCityGirl |

It's worth the wait. From the fun bohemian atmosphere to the fresh ingredients. This is my favorite breakfast place in the city! This is the place to try something new, as you won't be disappointed. The staff is friendly and service is incredibly quick.

Don't miss it

By Bill G |

Saturday morning at the Bongo Room, getting here just as they open. We were seated immediately in this eclectic place. Great menu with specials including delicious hot cakes, eggs and omelets. The hot cakes were not only delicious they were huge. We found out that they serve half portions for the small eaters. Highly recommend Bongo Room.

Best breakfast spot in the city!!!!

By Asiau |

This is the best place to have breakfast or brunch in the city. The selection of sweet and savory dishes is amazing. My favorite dish is hands down BLT Benedict only available there on the weekends. It's mouth watering delishes!!! A must visit when you are a breakfast/brunch lover.

I'll be back!

By Julie T |

I let the waitress pick their most popular dish for me. Brave me.... especially since it had poached eggs and I'm not a fan of runny eggs. And I LOVED it and nearly licked my plate. I also want to recommend the teas if you like teas - they have some very special ones I had not heard of before.

Cozy breakfast place!

By Faizan M |

A very cozy and nice breakfast place with very friendly people. The breakfast was great. We ordered omellettes and Eggs bendict of different types and we were not disappointed. The coffee was nice as well. But the best part was the staff who were very welcoming and friendly and made us feel very comfortable. Would go there again whenever I'm in town.

This may be enough of a reason to come back to Chicago SOON!

By Heidi_loves_travel |

Got there about 20 minutes before open (9:00) on Saturday morning. There were already people lined up, but we got right in when it opened. We had the banana-heath bar pancakes and the BLT benedict, and both were insanely good. The portions are huge, so you can share or take some with you for later. Great coffee. Great service. Wish I lived near here!

RUDE

By chrislawrence61 |

This is for the Bongo Room on Clark St. I took 8 people there for my special needs daughters 20th birthday. We came on Sunday before 9:00 to get in line. We were the 2nd people there and were told we had to wait to be seated till our whole party arrived. 2 people in our party went to the wrong Bongo Room. When they texted me that they were 5 min. away I asked if we could be seated. The host/owner told me no and told me I was rude, had an attitude and to leave. He said they don't seat parties when the whole table hasn't arrived. My thoughts were he was trying to fill the tables as quickly as possible. If my table happened to get filled then I would have to wait. I told him I was the customer and he should be accommodating me. He then called my friend over who had intervened in the dispute and told her he would seat us now only because she was so nice. If it wasn't for the fact that I knew how important this was to my daughter, I would have gladly left and taken my 8 person tab somewhere else. I get you're busy, and don't need the business but I would NEVER treat my customers or anyone the way I was treated at Bongo Room. Although I have eaten there often I will never go back. You shouldn't take your success for granted.

Wonderful

By Alexia F |

Food is absolutely spectacular. Order half orders otherwise you will be beyond stuffed. I had the french toast and a half order was two huge slices. This was my second time at the Bongo Room because our first visit was so yummy. This time didn't disappoint either!

Great Brunch!

By sk03 |

We were staying in the theater district and took the “L” to Wicker Park to eat at this restaurant and it was recommended by some friends that used to live in Chicago. We went there about 9:45 AM on Sunday morning for brunch. We were supposed to wait about 35-40 minutes, but it was more about 20 minutes. The service was excellent and attentive. It is a cramped restaurant and is very loud, but manageable. I ordered the Chocolate Tower French Toast and it was very excellent. All of their food looked amazing. It is definitely worth the wait.

Perhaps not completely to our taste

By JF3000 |

We went there for brunch on week day expecting great things. The reviews seemed amazing and our hotel recommended it. The staff were lovely, there was no wait and we were served ice cold water soon as we arrived. However, the coffee was definitely not what we were looking for, less than full bodied and insipid. The menu was heavy on the eggs and on the carbs and fat. The pancakes for instance came with what I thought was a scoop of ice cream but was actually butter. I would suggest people check the menu before they go. It wasn’t that the food was anything different to what the menu was advertising. As I said, this was not to our taste but obviously others were enjoying it around us.

Great Service, Great Food

By stefan_r01 |

Food was delicious!! Really fresh, full of flavour and arrived quickly. Staff were very pleasant and welcoming. Will definitely be back!

Best Breakfast in Chicago?

By Joe C |

Get here early, but don’t miss this candidate for best breakfast in Chicago! We prefer the Wicker Park location to the Loop location. The pancake specials are memorable. Everything is delicious. They’ll even give you a cup of coffee while waiting on the street.

What a pleasure!

By marica b |

Exceptional, the best breakfast here in the States. Very attentive staff and delicious food. We enjoyed some excellent pancakes

Ok...

By Moni |

I really don’t understand why people are crazy about this place. It’s just a normal diner? brunch spot in Chicago... I had the beef, cremini mushroom, spinach, and herb butter omelette. Yes, I ate it all and it wasn’t bad or anything, but I don’t think I’ll return. The shrimp egg Benedict was ok too but again, nothing special.

Very good food!

By Elise F |

My friends and i spent 2 days in chicago. The first morning, we wanted to have a brunch for my friend's birthday and saw online that this restaurant was recommended for that. And it is really nice! We walked randomly a bit before 9 to reach the restaurant and luckily we arrived a bit before 9 am and started to make a line that was containing already a dozen of people! We could have a table directly. We ordered coffee and it so far the best coffee i had in US until now (i am in US since 2 years). I ordered the blueberry/banana pancakes. I was not expecting that much food for the price. I could eat just a quarter (3 huge pancakes, fresh bananas, strawberries and blueberries with a blueberry sauce). On the top, there was a really good mascarpone cream with vanilla....delicious. Two of my friends ordered two other kind of pancakes and have been really happy. We all left with a doggy bag for the next morning breakfast.

Nice accommodation of Vegan diet

By c00coo |

I was here for late Sunday brunch with a party of 4. We were told it would be 1.5 hours but it ended up being a lot less. I asked for a vegan option for the breakfast burrito and the waitstaff suggested spinach, mushroom and avocado. It was perfect; so delicious. My friends ordered various pancakes that were huge and left unfinished. Order a half-plate if you know you won't finish or take home with you.

Amazing!!!

By Kengelke |

The service was quick and everyone was very polite! The food was amazing!! I have visited this restaurant several times and each one has been mouth watering!! Always has a good variety of different menu items as well.

Popular & trendy neighborhood dining experience

By beegood55 |

Brunch at The Bongo Room on Milwaukee is an event. Put your name on the waiting list (45-60 min easily) and hang out at The Wormhole Coffee Shop which is pretty much next door. Coffee & atmosphere at the Wormhole is great. Brunch at The Bongo Room is great. Lots of young people, fast moving wait staff. Be forewarned that sweet is SWEET. It is possible to order one red velvet pancake to split 4 ways and that is still more than enough sugar. The non-sweet brunch entree dishes were all excellent. Generous portions. Would revisit.

Yum!

By rosenfie |

I love brunch food. This place tasked the cake, literally! Red velvet and chocolate pretzel pancakes (though I didn't have those)?? I went with my sister in law and we shared the breakfast burrito (smooth as a blintz) and the lemon blueberry pancakes (omg). We also had a fruit plate, which was very fresh. I had a blackberry and grapefruit mimosa and she had an orange mango one. Well, OK, we each had two. In addition to amazing food, the service was also very friendly. I am definitely planning on going back there. It's even a little out of the way for me but totally worth the trip.

Way overprized

By KatharinaJ |

Food was ok - could have used a little salt though. Huge portions (which is not a good thing in my opinion, you either finish and feel sick, or you stop halfway through your breakfast and it gets thrown away). And 4$ for a double espresso, 5 for an orange juice is way too much! I still enjoyed the atmosphere.

My Favorite Place in Wicker Park

By dfwld_16 |

I have been coming here going back nearly a decade to my time living in Wicker Park. One of my favorite dishes is the Pretzel Pancakes. If you can stop by during the week, do that because going on the weekends usually involves a wait, and they don't take reservations.

Spectacular breakfast

By Morey C |

I was a bit skeptical about this recommendation but holy smokes was I wrong! Soooo great! Everything cooked to perfection. We had breakfast here and we would go back in a heartbeat.

Great Breakfast in a Great Food City!

By LoverofFood411 |

Hashbrowns are incredible, omelets are great, fresh, good coffee, always a wait but worth it. Always visit when in Chicago, tried two other breakfast spots, came back to Bongo Room and my Girlfriend agreed Best Breakfast in Chicago! Go Bears!

Great No Frills Brunch Spot!

By Lisa C |

This place doesn't have beautiful looking plates like Wildberry does, but the food is absolutely delicious. It's reasonably priced, and they do not skimp on the food!

One of the best brunches in Chicago!

By meganryan813 |

The food is absolutely delicious with a wonderful selection of both sweet and savory options. They also have a special menu that they switch up throughout the seasons to have some in season flavors. You cannot go wrong with anything off the menu here. The portions are huge, so I typically try and split different sweet and savory items with the table so we can fulfill all of our taste buds! This location also serves alcohol and has a delicious Bloody Mary! It’s easy to fill up on the Bloody Mary, so I don’t get one every time just to be sure I still have room for food! Absolutely delicious coffee as well. They don’t take reservations so plan to get their early when they open or you may end up waiting, but it is well worth it!

All I see is RED!

By ScottyMcFly |

Great breakfast joint with an awesome array of mimosas ( I tried 3)! My foodie friend and I arrived 10 minutes before they opened and there was a line outside the door. This place got packed very fast, mind you it's not a huge space. I enjoyed the Red Velvet pancakes, eggs and chicken sausage! So freaking good. They have so many different unique options on there menu it may be hard to choose. Service was great and food was amazing...Well done Bongo Room!!

Very good breakfast

By freiessleben |

My children and I went to the Bongo Room for breakfast, and we were not dissapointed. The place is very popular On weekends. The menu offers great variations, and portions are really large - and of good quality.

Nice place for breakfast

By Ana A |

We tried the eggs Benedict, the chocolate toast and the pancakes, all of them were delicious and came in very generous portions.

Fantastic

By shardog |

Decadent breakfast, good service. Our group had : white chocolate pretzel pancakes, vanilla French toast, an omelet and the pineapple pancakes. All were just delicous, large portions.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!

By tar419 |

I will make a special trip to Bucktown, out of the way and with some airport luggage so that I can eat here. Everything is amazing. I have to decide between salty or sweet. The half order of chocolate tower french toast or the breakfast burrito are simply AMAZING!. Worth the wait that usually goes quickly. Wish I still lived near the Bongo Room!

Great place for breakfast

By PSSPrincess |

We were lucky and showed up on Easter Sunday for breakfast and had no wait! Portions were large and we luckily split. Great food and a great atmosphere!

Foodies go to place!!!!!!

By Etta8 |

Three locations in Chicago with quality, innovative food choices. Everything they put down in front of you will put a smile on your face We Go as a couple or with friends. Children are welcome and we wouldn't hesitate to eat solo. We travel a distance to eat there and are never disappointed It is not really a "bar" restaurant. The Andersonville location has a great outdoor seating area in the back Go Packers

Great choice!

By Estina718 |

This is a really cute place although kind of hard to find due to poor advertisement. My aunt and I enjoyed our meal here and the service was just as good. She had the banana pancakes which tastes just like banana pudding. And I enjoyed the red velvet pancakes which were the perfect amount of sweetness. Also, the tea menu is to die for and very abundant in choices you won't go wrong choosing either tea. We had the perilous white and the marvelous mint tea which comes in their own kettle and you can pour it out as you like. Beware that the week menu differs from the weekend brunch menu !!

Delicious brunch

By Lauren G |

The deconstructed lobster roll Benedict was amazing! Service was good and food was hot and tasty. There can be a wait, but there is a funky little coffee shop just a few doors away. Worth the wait.

Great pancakes

By Janatthebeachnow |

Went for lunch but my husband had breakfast and it was to die for. Try the white chocolate. caramel pretzel pancakes. Do I need to say more? The combination is so good and we were all eating off his plate. The poached shrimp salad I had was good but the pancakes were to die for. Can't wait to return

Interesting menu

By pip_wilkinson |

Like a lot of cafes, dinners or restaurants in America, never judge a book by its cover! Very simple from the outside, we thought it was closed! But once in friendly service wonderful menu of good brunch always with a Mexican twist, amazing sandwiches! Would recommend.

The best breakfast spot in Wicker Park.

By westsidehb |

I had a late breakfast at The Bongo Room on a Saturday. The wait was long as is expected on a Saturday morning. When we were finally seated my only problem was deciding what to order. I choose an omelette with chorizo, avocado, mushrooms, and queso fresco. It comes with a large amount of potatoes. Quite a meal, and the omelette is one of the best I've ever had. They are famous for their pancakes and I did try the key lime cheesecake pancakes which where excellent. This is not a tourist spot. The huge crowd were locals who knew they would have to wait and came any way. That says a lot about the quality of The Bongo Room.

Amazing Pancakes!

By NuYrka08 |

We were able to order several pancakes instead of a stack by taking advantage of their "taster" option for $5 bucks each pancake. Had the res velvet, pistachio/cherry and carrot cake. Everything was so dang good! I had the chicken sausage; kind of spicy but still very good! Would defintely go back nect time I'm in Chicago!

come for breakfast, when it's not so busy

By Tereza K |

Came at 9:30 AM on Sturday and were seated immediately, yes, to the bar, but it didn't bother us. Their portions are huge, and all of us were very satisfied. Very nice coffee as well. We had a breakfast burrito, also the omelette filled with chorizo, big portions and very filling. Next time I'm going to try the pancakes!

Awesome

By Cindy H |

Best breakfast! Spent a Chicago home day with my daughter and this was our 1st stop, then off to navy pier for a fabulous day

Lineup justified

By Nekkura |

If you want a good solid brunch, this is the place to go. All your standard breakfast items but done very well. Portions are huge so don't be fooled by the menu prices that this is a fancy brunch place with small portions. I had the chorizo potato avocado omelette because it's hard for me to resist chorizo in general. It was delicious. I had to ask for another container of salsa but the server was kind of enough to do so. My friends had various eggs benedict. I only tried the one that my friend could not finish but it was very good. I'd definitely come back here if I'm ever in Chicago. Somehow we lucked out and didn't actually have to lineup. There appeared to be one outside but they let us into the last table available. I guess they must have a rule that they don't seat parties whose members aren't all present. Definitely one of the better brunch places that I've been to.

Best Breakfast in Chicago

By Terrell H |

While working in Chicago I always eat here for Sunday Brunch they have the best breakfast with service to go along with it! I have sent many friends here also and always enjoy the meal!

Creative Menu

By H B |

The only reason I am giving the restaurant 4 stars and not 5 is because it was incredibly noisy inside and very hot. Though the food was incredible....(We had the Chocolate Tower French Toast and Lobster Benedict in addition to many other items on the menu) the loud noise and the heat took a lot away from the experience. Our server expected us to yell our order across the table when it would have been much easier if he had come around to the other side due to the high volume of noise. Also, some of us were served while others had to wait a bit for their food. There is usually a long wait, so get there early...hopefully they can work out the ac situation or lack thereof.

high energy and noisy

By RuthAnne M |

We were advised to eat here by nearby bookstore. The plate size was very generous, the waiter very sure of her own excellence, and the room was packed. We took the waiter's advice when we ordered the chicken with avocado sandwiches and think that there were probably better choices. It was fun to watch who was eating there and the walkers-by on the street. It is hard to determine if it was just average or excellent.

Be ready to eat

By Rkouba55 |

Wait on the weekends can be long but worth every second. Pancakes are huge and tasty. They are also creative. Menu is great with so many fun options. Alcohol is available when you are looking to do brunch.

I'm a breakfast expert...

By SayGoWeGo |

...and this is in the top ten of the breakfasts I have ever had. I had the Breakfast Burrito, $9.95, my husband had the Lobster Benedict $15.95. By our San Francisco standards, well priced. Add two coffees and a side of bacon, the tab was $35.20. The food and the service from Sarah = EXCELLENT.

Nice brunch

By Nikow69 |

We went there together 2 times. Pretty sad than the second time they didn't serve the summer special menu which was amazing. Their basic menu is okay but not really original. Their croissant is not homemade for sure but not a great quality too. You ask for scrambled egg in it but they do serve it an omelet instead. But except that the place is nice, service really pro and welcoming and food is good

Love the benedicts!

By beccagp1313 |

The food is always good here but on Sunday they have a variety of Benedict’s which I love. My son is having the berry churros French toast and the look yummy too. This has become one of our go to spots on Sunday when I am visiting in Chicago. Get here early we arrived at 9:06- they open at 9:00 and not only is it full there was already a waiting list. Well worth it!

BIG Best sandwich,

By laflaflaf |

Went there for a late lunch and I ordered the beef tenderloin sandwich and a side Caesar salad. It was delicious. There was plenty of meat and I couldn't eat the whole thing. None of us could eat our entire sandwiches. I would've enjoyed it better if it had a little bit more horseradish kick. However friends loved their chicken sandwiches as well. And we saw a star from the showtime Shameless tv show having lunch there. It was a great day!

Yummy lunch

By Bayley S |

New favorite place for a great salad. As well as many other healthy options. The pear & beet salad is amazing! Will be back soon to check out the others !!

Exellent breakfast

By Bill G |

First visited the Bongo Room in 2014. This revisit was just as good. Some breakfast favorites still there (banana pancakes) but some great additions. The white chocolate, caramel pecan pancakes were outstanding. One in our group of 8 ordered the breakfast burrito and loved it. Staff are fun, attentive and friendly. I have to try lunch one day.

Great first experience

By tomiswho |

My wife's granddaughter introduced us to the Bongo Room for lunch a week and a half ago. The 3 females ordered breakfast type meals, while I had the smoked turkey/slaw Reuben. Proportions were generous, and we were very please with our choices. No wait, good service, food arrived promptly. I bought a coffee mug as a souvenir. We will be back next visit to Wicker Park!

Lunch at Bongo Room

By Culture Vulture 60657 |

Lunch at 12:45 on a weekday, the room was less than half-full. In addition to the breakfast menu, they offer quite a few sandwiches and salads. My friend had pancakes with a vanilla creme sauce. The order was three large, fluffy-looking pancakes with a side of sauce. She couldn't finish it. I had a spinach salad with duck confit, roasted beets, candied walnuts and (goat?) cheese. It too was huge and I could not finish it. It was okay, not great; the beets were marinated and kind of overpowered everything else.

Fantastic breakfast - Worth the 45 minute wait

By harvireise |

One of the better breakfast places in Chicago. I had the BLT Benedict and pancakes! Both dishes were awesome! You won't be disappointed.

Great breakfast spot

By Tebergman |

We had a very good breakfast with great coffee. The menu is nicely varied and all six of us enjoyed our choices. The potatoes are a nice change from the usual cottage potatoes most places serve.

a treat for the eyes and the belly

By bjeanp |

Cool, artsy ambience, creative and delicious food that satisfies the soul. As everyone here says: worth the lines (no reservations). Street parking here in Wicker Park is sometimes iffy - come early - and not when there is a local neighborhood festival. Prepare to eat a lot. You won't regret it. Think Walker Brothers on steroids - without the predictability or all the stained glass. And a far different crowd.

Awesome ! Definitely a Must

By karine1301 |

During every trip to Chicago, i have to have at least on breakfast/brunch in the Bongo Room. It is a legendary place and well known for the amazing savoury and sweet choices of extremely huge dishes. To be recommendex is definitely the Strawberry Lemonade, one of the savoury omelets, very opulently stuffed. Eggs Benedict is one of the more popular dishes however only available on weekends. The chocolate French toast is to die for as well as the Oreo flapjacks with chocolate/vanilla sauce. It's big fun to go with a couple of people and order different dishes to share so you get to taste from all of them. I can assure you that Bongo Room makes you very greedy and also makes your stomach stretch to the maximum ! Bongo Room does not take any reservations - there normally is a wait of between 20 to 35min. Very reasonably priced : average price/dish approx USD 14

Great Brunch!

By Maniac42 |

Great menu, delicious dishes, and good service, definitely worth a visit. Their pancakes are delicious, yet their benedicts can't be missed. The shrimp and lobster specialty benedicts are very good, suggest ordering both.

Outstanding brunch

By Nads82 |

Pretty sure this place has one of the best weekend brunches in town. Everything - I really mean everything you order is made with love and delicious. Even the hot tea is amazing. The price point is reasonable given the portion and quality. I seriously can not wait come back here. We waited about an hour and I would do it all over again. Server was super laid back and efficient. Overall ambiance was comfortable with a diverse crowd.

Decent, not awesome

By DebOChicago_IL |

This place gets so much buzz, I was expecting awesomeness. My lunch was fine--the sandwich (tuna) was a little too complicated, but it was OK. Not super-excited to return, but wouldn't avoid it, either.

It IS bigger on the inside!.

By Edgar B |

Gone past the N. Clark restaurant many times before and only saw the few tables in the front room. Had breakfast there today and discovered the much larger rear dining room. Glad I did. Great Caramelized Pear flapjacks and Breakfast Croissants. Service is relaxed, friendly and efficient. Dining room is open and airy. Will definitely be back!

Great food

By Rick K |

Their benedict's was excellent, so was the breakfast burrito and carmelized pear French toast. Everything was great.

We'll be back!

By Elise67_13 |

There are so many great menu options at the Bongo Room, we ordered three items to share. The chocolate and banana french toast was amazing, and surprising not too sweet. The smoked salmon scramble and tomatillo salsa scramble were also fantastic. Our waiter was really nice and gave us suggestions for next time - because we'll definitely be back!

great brunch in Wicker Park

By JasFu |

Great experience! We visited Bongo Room for lunch on a saturday afternoon and had no reservation: we had to wait about 30 minutes to be seated, so we took the opportunity to have a nice walk in the neighbourhood. The menu is extremely inviting, but our waitress was very nice and thoughtful in suggesting us to consider the dimensions of the courses... we tasted BLT Benedict and Chocolate Tower French Toast and they were simply superb! Can't wait to come back!

When a restaurant is full as soon as it opens, you know you're in a great place. Make sure to get there before they open if you don't want to wait to eat. Service is great and fast, and the food is delightful. The berry pancakes come out in a huge pile that looked like way too much food, but were so light and delicious I almost ate the whole thing. Must try the red velvet pancakes someday, as everything on the menu is unique and tempting.

Great brunch!

By K.S. |

We came here yesterday (2/2) for brunch after having a really bad experience and another brunch place. The wait was reasonable, about 15-20 minutes for a party of four and our food was great. I would definitely go back!

Sets you off for a great day

By Zia_Angelina |

The Vegetarian Croissant was the best choice of the day as we then required no additional meal until dinner: it is a delicious combination of vegetables, eggs, croissant and a lot of potatoes! Pancakes were also really good and a walk in the nice neighbourhood will start burning down the calories.

So many things on the menu I want to try!

By nmm044 |

So many things on the menu that we wanted to try! The lemon blackberry pancakes were outstanding! My husband had the Deconstructed Lobster Roll Benedict and it was a magical experience for our tummies! I wish we had this restaurant in southeastern Michigan.

Breakfast/Lunch

Great breakfast or lunch spot! Bright upbeat space. Yummy menu with oversized portions. Delicious bloody Mary, croissant sandwich and pancakes!

Sunday Brunch

By Mary B |

Their Sunday Brunch selections are unique and very tasty. While the restaurant can be busy, they tables turn over quickly. Really liked the social atmosphere of friends and neighbors gathering.

Delicious and Unique Breakfast Place

By TravelingSoccerLoon |

Not only was the food delicious, there is some really interesting and unique choices on the menu. Laid back place. Good service.

Good sausage and eggs

By CalifTravelerOne |

Nice neighborhood breakfast and brunch place. The fried eggs and omelets were excellent as was the sausage. The potatoes were a little below average. The noise level was very high; they continued playing loud music even though the restaurant was very full. (I have noticed this at other breakfast places and wonder if they staff comes in early in the morning, turns up the music and don’t think to turn it down when customers arrive.) Also below average coffee.

Great place

By Tiffany G |

Great menu items, large food plates, great welcoming courteous staff, mimosas are good as well. Modern decoration, love the decor and bar area.

Great food but so busy

By Paul M |

This is probably as good as a brunch gets. All fresh ingredients, tastefully put together. Only thing is that it gets quite cramped and noisy and you feel like you have to get in and out fast.

Amazing!!!

By Arian |

Had the most amazing breakfast ever! To be honest everything looked good. The only thing is that it's all very heavy...but definitely worth it :)

great brunch spot...

By eyeu |

A great place for brunch...nice portions..busy place...good menu. The breakfast burrito was delicious! The chocolate caramel pancakes were outstanding...friendly service...would definitely return to enjoy another meal here.. Intelligensia coffee served. One of the better breakfast places in chicago!

Breakfast food better than lunch

By 60004Kathy |

This was our second trip to the Bongo Room. Our first trip was a better dining experience than our second. The pancakes at the Bongo Room are fantastic. The other breakfast entrees on our first visit were good. This 2nd visit we order a couple of lunch items. The Asian type salad I had was supposed to have smoked chicken, but all 4 of us at the table thought it had to be pork. The salad itself was a bit plain. The burrito was chicken and spinach. It was okay. It just lacked flavor, and it seemed to be all the same texture. The waitress was not very attentive. It took quite awhile before she came to our table. Didn't come to refill water or coffee. She was even difficult to get her attention to ask for coffee. She was a bit snippy when we asked a question. Having been a waitress before, I am fairly forgiving. She just seemed to be unpleasant rather than busy.

Great brunch spot!

By Sarah I |

We had a little bit of a wait, but there are other shops around Bongo Room so the time went by quickly. Everything on the menu looked great, and walking around the restaurant I wanted to taste test what I saw! I ended up with the breakfast burrito and it was delicious. It was served with fried potatoes, salsa, and a doctored-up sour cream. The mimosa was great, too! Service was awesome; would love to go back again.

Fresh Culinary Delights

By John G |

This place exceeds every standard possible, from fresh ingredients, creative twists on breakfast and tantalizing taste. We have been here many times and are always quick to return. Any omelette or egg dish is prepared with fresh veggies, nice cheeses and tasty meats. You can choose your options or order off the menu. My favorite is the omelette w/ chorizo and cheese. Fresh sauces accompany you choice. A fried had a egg white Rueben Omelette and loved it. There pancakes and French toast are so decadent that it's like dessert. We always order one of those for table sharing. We love there Bloody Mary's, it's a must try. We have never been disappointed and to top it off the wait staff is friendly and accommodating. Check it out!

So good!

By Hannah Bauman |

The best thing to do is to get different types of pancakes and share! They had some special chocolate tower French toast my husband gave a 10/10 and I went for the lighter option of the strawberry banana pancakes I have a light and fluffy strawberry mousse on it. Maybe a 9/10. We sampled berry pancake and the salted caramel white chocolate of our cousin's pancakes both those were both delicious as well, at least 9/10! Peach Bellini was delicious as well

A pleasant find while walking on Milwaukee Ave

By NewJerseyMovieman |

In Chicago for friends daughters wedding and we were walking on Milwaukee Ave. searching for a breakfast spot and came upon The Bongo Room. The host at the front door apologized in advanced that two servers were a “no show” and service may be a little slow. There was only one open table so we took it. In less than a minute we had water on the table and couple of minutes later, our server Casey was taking our order. Our food was promptly served and we had no wait whatsoever which was a tribute to the well organized operation and Casey’s excellent service. Our food was very good and we found The Bongo Room to be top notched. When back in Chicago, we will definitely return.

Amazing breakfast

By captn_scarlet |

Arrived just as it opened and followed the queue in the door, the staff were amazingly friendly and helpful, the breakfast mimosa juice and coffee were great, the spiced pumpkin pancakes were simply incredible, melt in your mouth with the cinnamon and orange cream making them smokey and fresh at the same time, the tomatillo scramble was superb and very filling . If you can get in, you must must try this place.

Good Location OK Breakfast

By Kdahlers |

We ate our last breakfast here, I was under impressed with the food. The service was good, but the omelet was greasy and just OK. Reasonably priced with a lot of options. The signage isn't great and we almost walked right by the Bongo Room, but I backtracked and saw the name on the door. This is just down the street from the Eleven City Diner.

Fantastic Breakfast

By CarolynCvi |

Loved the breakfast. Avocado and chorizo omelets for all. Great flavor with not a lot of grease. Chorizo was fresh and flavorful. Nice place; a bit of a wait to get in but worth it.

Yummy breakfast

By Scott M |

Glad I went on a weekday - heard its crazy for weekend brunch, though there are a few extra items not on the weekday breakfast menu. Had the coconut pineapple pancakes with brown sugar whipped cream - excellent; and the turkey sausage and spinach breakfast sandwich with skillet potatoes, also very good. Good coffee and service by Jennie.

Wonderful Brunch Place

By Karen60660 |

Tasty and interesting brunch dishes. The service was friendly. It only took a few minutes to get in on a Saturday morning at 10 a.m. One possible drawback: it is loud, so if you have a hearing issue and want to talk with people, it's probably not a good fit. Otherwise it was fantastic.

Fantastic

By Rhonda P |

Would highly recommend. Portions are huge, tasty, fresh and reasonably priced. What else can you ask for? The lineup and wait to get in was more than worth it.

Best breakfast in Wicker Park

By Lori T |

If you are looking for a breakfast with eggs near the Damen blue line station, this is the place. The menu is full of unique sweet and savory specialties. We got super fast service on a Monday morning. The food was delicious. Highly recommend.

Best breakfast in Chicago

By LCD425 |

Pancakes, pancakes, pancakes. Okay, there's more on the menu than pancakes, but pretzel pancakes with caramel and white chocolate sauce? Check. Red velvet pancakes with vanilla cream sauce? Check. These are as sinful as you think they are. The breakfast burrito is great too.

Wonderful Brunch!

By TSCraig |

Very busy little cafe with great food. The staff is friendly and very good at their job. Little pricey but worth it.

Quality, Quantity, and Quite Delicious!

By amye274 |

Lively atmosphere of business folks, tourist folks, and local folks. Staff is on high service alert, happily helping each other. You get to enjoy your cup of joe or tea while the kitchen prepares a well crafted breakfast that is pleasing to the eye, the stomach, and the wallet. My party ordered the croissant sandwich, the burrito, fruit plate, and the pineapple flapjacks. Don't be in a hurry, come hungry, and enjoy the wonderful food.

I DEFINITELY WILL NOT COME BACK HERE!!! BUSINESS IS NOT VALUED, RUDE TO CUSTOMERS.

By Jax8487 |

I DEFINITELY WILL NOT COME BACK HERE!!! My friend and I met up for a holiday brunch and settled on here. Since this is a well known spot, and I live in the area, I've been here a number of times. There is usually a wait, and although somewhat pricey, the food is pretty good (albeit, somewhat overrated)- so I hadn't minded when she suggested it, since she had never tried it. The service was good, and I realize we were there on the weekend, but we tried to place a to go order when the server came to check on us, but were denied- apparently they don't take to go orders on the weekend... fine. We each had ordered coffee, an entree and some french toast to share. They were busy, so it took a bit for our meal to come out. My friend and I ate and chatted, but felt very rushed by the staff. The server came back to us several times, and then started sending over other servers to check in as well. We had been seated for about an hour and a half give or take a few minutes, we were finishing up grazing on the french toast and sipping coffee when one of the managers/owners came up and told us he needed the table and we needed to cash out and go. Over the years I have brought numerous visitors, family and friends here, and I can guarantee we will be bringing our business elsewhere. It's one thing to be treated poorly by a snarky employee, but it is quite another matter to be treated that way by someone within management. There are so many restaurants in Chicago, I would rather go somewhere that my business is appreciated.

Awesome pancakes!!!

By BeachBumBunny |

I live here in Chicago and have been going here for the last 4 years. Had the Key Lime Cheesecake pancakes and in love with them! Can't wait to go back to see what is on the fall/winter menu

Delicious Brunch

By Dana R |

A local recommended this place so my friend and I went for brunch at 11am on a Saturday. By 11:30 there was a line-up but you can put your name down and go for a coffee while you wait. The cocktail and brunch menu has interesting and delicious combinations of flavours to suit anyone's palette. I had the banana pancakes and for the first time ever, I did not need maple syrup! The creme and strawberries were perfect.

Not the best!

By Cheryl Porter I |

Not bad but not worth the trip. Menu is very innovative and creative and the food is really good. Not your usual breakfast venue. As the place is very small, the service is rushed and unattentive. Don't go during the weekend!

Starting to see a trend here...

By gobee84 |

Bongo room had a beautiful interior and friendly attentive staff. I have review a few places in Chicago already and I am starting to see a trend here. While you want to like all these restaurants, more often than not you are served up with, I hate to say it, sub-par to average food. We ordered the BLT benedict and the white chocolate caramel pretzel pancakes. I didn't try the benedict so I can't say anything for that. My pancakes were like a pile of sugar. You can't enjoy the pretzel bits in the pancakes because its smothered by sweet overly sugary sauce. I can see why the typical American palette would think this is good stuff, but to me anyone can slab sugar or salt onto something and call it a day. Restaurants that can make flavours complement one another are the ones worth really giving a good grade for!

Best breakfast in Chicago (and that's saying something)

By Andrew B |

This is my favorite brunch in Chicago by far. There are numerous options, all of which are delicious. Guess I wouldn't go here if you're trying for a healthy meal, but if you're doing the classic weekend brunch, this is your best move. A good way to do it is go with a group of four, everybody order whatever you want individually, then split a half-order of one of the specialty pancakes ... you'll love it. Throw in a beverage and some coffee, and you're a happy camper.

Just ok don't expect any secret combo or sauce to wow you

By Edan M |

My biggest problem w places like bongo room is that they give mediocre dishes in large sizes. so I eat too much and then I'm pissed that I went through this, double sword syndrome. Why can't places like this, take their food to the next level and get a chef to make the current offering but just better, they have the money the customers and great rep. more pazzaz to the food would have been nice, can tell it's not a place an expert foodie would go to. And the pancakes were sub par, I would pass on them.

Solid choice

By EmeraldKnight |

Quick efficient service with creative food. The lobster Benedict was excellent. The pancakes were good but not the softest or fluffiest I've ever had. Great choice where you'll get a solid brunch.

Red Velvet Pancakes

By cnhfromCoMo |

To die for pancakes! The red velvet and the white chocolate pretzel pancakes are AMAZING!! Place was busy when we were there but it was the weekend so not surprised.

food coma!!

By Sheila514 |

I'm not sure what came over the three of us when we decided to order 4 dishes to share over brunch, but it sure caused some major food coma by the end of the meal. Having said that, every dish was so good I would repeat it all over again. The best plate to eat alone would be the breakfast burrito (switch to chorizo if you like it spicy), but if there are three or more people in your group, you should definitely consider sharing one of the three huge white chocolate and pretzel pancakes. The deconstructed lobster roll benedict was very rich for breakfast, but it could've also been the fact that we were each trying to finish 1 1/3 plates! The wait for a table was about an hour long, but luckily the emporium arcade bar a few blocks away kept our minds off our hunger for the hour.

Decent brunch

By Tunaidi |

The Bongo Room is a decent brunch establishment, but waits on the weekends can prove to be taxing. The deliciousness and the ingenuity of the food, however, don't strike me as exceptional, especially after being teased by waits and rave reviews. Seating is pretty cramped. And they like to rush you out to help with turnover.

Excellent Brunch

By SJAR |

Really enjoyed our Brunch here. Warmly greeted and we were seated right away. The waitress and support staff were prompt and attentive. There were four people in our group and everyone ordered something different - two different pancake orders, one spinach/feta cheese/tomato omelette and one scrambled egg order with bacon and side potatoes. Every dish arrived in good time, was hot and portions were good size. Granted it was a Friday at a 11 am time slot -but the place was full. The atmosphere was nice, casual and comfortable. Definitely would go back.

Red Velvet Pancakes- need I say more!

By abstravel49 |

Absolutely delicious! My last and favorite meal of my trip. My friend and I split the red velvet pancakes and an egg sandwich special- both were perfection. Also, get the fruit platter- it's only like $6 and had a fab assortment of fruit! Great value.

Great Food

By Tony S |

I liked the unique breakfast and brunch foods. I had a deconstructed lobster roll that was very delicious. We got there at 915 on a Sunday and had a 45 minute wait but it was well worth it. The crowd only grew and had to be an hour and a half wait by the time we finished. Not a large place and not fancy but the food was great.

The best pancakes ever!!

By travelford |

Do not miss this place for pancakes!! The best combination of flavors! One pancake is a meal but get a few for your table and try them all! Servers were super nice too!

Veggie's Breakfast delight

By Jane R |

We got a taxi here from the city centre. It's a bit out from the city centre but it's well worth the trip - I think it was about 8 dollars in a taxi from the shopping district in Michigan avenue (around Cartier). I had the veggie skillet accompanied by pancakes. It was enormous, tasty, and the best of both Savoury and Sweet. The staff were great. My husband asks a lot of questions regarding the surrounding area and they were very courteous and accommodating. If you want a good hearty breakfast that doesn't break the bank - go there!!

Delicious brunch!

By Nikki S |

The food is really good. However, due to the richness and cost of the food I will save this place for special occasions only. My husband got a savory plate and I ordered a sweet plate. Both were really good. The service was decent. We got what we needed when we needed it.

One of my absolute favorite breakfast stops!

By DawnDawnDawn |

I have eaten here several times and have never been disappointed. The only thing bad I could say is that it's so hard to decide which item to order from the menu! Highly recommended!!

Two thumbs up!

By WherecanI_gonext |

There was a long line so we did have a bit of a wait. Once we got seated, we had good service and great food. The atmosphere was just plain but we were more interested in the food. It seems like there are a lot of locals who go there. It is located on a street with lots of trendy, expensive boutiques. Close to the train but you still have to walk a few blocks.

21 Years and Counting

By Steve H |

My first visit to the Bongo Room was when it opened at another location 21 years ago. I've been there perhaps a dozen times over that span ( whenever I'm in Chicago) and am never disappointed . A huge amount of food for the price. Be prepared to intake calories, it's not the place for a diet. On the weekends there will always be a wait, but it's well worth the time. The food is tasty and very creative.... Congrats to the team that has endured for 21 years......

Good Breakfast

By drw2112 |

We had tried to eat here on weekends, but it was always too busy. We then ventured in on a weekday with no crowd whatsoever. Great breakfast and service. The red velvet pancakes were fabulous. Coffee was good but for $ 3.50 it is a little pricey. Lots of pay parking right in front, but again on a weekday.

Always great!

By cwt |

I've eaten at Bongo Room many times and have never been disappointed with any aspect of the meal. The food and service have been excellent every time.

Food was great. Apparently the mouse thought so too!

By Caryn S |

My family and I went to the Bongo Room for brunch today to celebrate my daughter's birthday. We waited about 45 minutes as we were a table of 7, not too bad. The food was very good as was the service. While we were eating, a mouse ran under our table and continued to scurry around under the surrounding tables. The waitstaff and hostess tried to corner it with brooms, all while people were sitting at their tables and eating. The hunt continued for 10-15 minutes; the mouse scurrying about, brooms and rags attempting to corner the mouse. An employee finally captured it in a plastic cup and carried it away through the restaurant. We never saw a manager come out to address the issue or offer apologies to the patrons. A few of us lost our appetites, not finishing our meals. We checked any bags we had on the floor, etc. We were taken aback by the nonchalance of the scene. When we paid our bill, there was no offer of a discount for the mouse disruption or apology. I realize there are mice in old buildings in the city, I just don't want to eat with them. If you are still willing to venture there, the Lobster Roll Benedict is fabulous. It is a bit pricey; $3.50 for a cup of coffee and $5 for OJ. Average price $20 per person. No charge for rodents.

The art of making breakfast sandwiches

By Taylor B |

You can enjoy a traditional and conventional breakfast of two scrambled eggs with sausage patties, house potatoes and toast at the Bongo Room. But you're missing out on all the fun. Located at 1470 North Milwaukee Avenue, south of North Avenue, in Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood, the Bongo Room opened in 1993 and still takes pride in its original concept: to serve fresh, seasonal breakfast and brunch food in a unique way. Emphasis on unique. Open from 8 to 2 Monday and Friday and 9 to 2 on Saturday and Sunday, it offers such unique dishes as gingerbread, pear and vanilla French toast, breakfast burritos and croissant sandwiches. How about a breakfast burrito with a flour tortilla filled with guacamole and scrambled eggs topped with melted jack cheese and ancho chile sour cream with salsa on the side and house potatoes? Or a grilled croissant with melted muenster and crisp bacon with one scrambled egg served with house potatoes? Or a smoked mozzarella and turkey sausage sandwich with a house-made turkey sausage patty and scrambled eggs with melted smoked mozzarella and basil pesto served on a soft toasted pretzel roll with house potatoes? If you're in a mood for pancakes, the strawberry shortcake and banana praline are highly recommended, fluffy pancakes topped with shortbread, warm vanilla bean cream, strawberry coulis and fresh sliced strawberries or fluffy banana pancakes with crunch Heath bar chips, warm praline cream and fresh bananas. Wash it all down with a large glass of fresh squeezed orange juice. The Bongo Room also has another location at 5022 North Clark Street in the Andersonville neighborhood.

Great brunch!

By travellernick121 |

This is a huge restaurant so I doubt it would ever be difficult to get a table (they don't take reservations though). Having done a load of research we knew exactly what we wanted - sharing the crossaint with bacon and a sunny side up egg and potatoes - HUGE! Then delicious cranberry and white chocolate pancakes. 2 lattes alongside and we left full and happy. It felt like a proper diner and we loved it.

Best Pancakes Ever!!

By 371sarac |

Can't wait to visit Chicago again just for these pancakes! Great service, no wait to be seated, friendly staff, great food!

Death by breakfast!

By Nancy B |

Yes we had to wait, but not as long as we'd been told. Yes it's crowded and noisy, so what. Seriously the best, nastiest breakfast on earth! We had the lobster eggs Benedict as well as the BLT eggs Benedict. Just to put things over the top we added pumpkin pancakes AND chocolate banana French toast. Thought I was gonna die but couldn't make myself stop eating. So damn good! If I have one tiny complaint it would be that in spite of the really quick service, the food was not exactly piping hot when it arrived. That's a thing for me but obviously didn't slow me down!

Great selection

By Lojam66 |

What a great menu! So many options couldn’t decide what to have. Went for an oat milk latte and pineapple upside down flapjacks. It was amazing. Everyone was pleased with their food.

Ahhhmazing Pancakes

By Christy A |

Bongo Room is one of the most awesome brunch spots in Chicago. The staff is hot or miss (there's always 1 or 2 that simply don't mesh well with others but nonetheless the place is great. They don't make many accommodations so just a few words of caution before you arrive: 1. Make sure your entire party is there (no partial seating) 2. Arrive when the doors open to avoid a long wait 3. Parking can be a doozy 4. Try the special pancakes (WINNERS) 5. It's small in case you're claustrophobic The décor is something magical. I enjoyed simply taking in all the art while waiting for a table to free up. One of the proprietors (can't remember his name but very pleasant guy) offered me a fresh cup of coffee and pulled up a chair until our entire party arrived. The Lobster Benedict, Carrot Pancakes and Pretzel Pancakes were nothing short of ahhhhhmazingly delicious! If your party consist of 5 or more I highly recommend trying at least 1 of each pancake; especially the specials which are only available for a limited time. Lastly, they've got the coolest most eco chic restroom I've seen in all of 2015. Give the Bongo a GO. ~Christy

gingerbread pancakes and eggs are delicious

By chuck d |

Brunch. Very fresh fruit on the fruit plate. The egg dish ingredients tasted fresh as well. We had a half order of the french toast- yummy and I want that sauce recipe! The service- so fast and precise and friendly I had no problem leaving a big tip. VISIT this place. The prices made me wonder if I was actually in Chicago….this place is value added every step of the way.

Huge servings, great food. Go early, it fills up Fast!

By rachelj5 |

This place was suggested to us by the hotel staff. We went for breakfast & it was great food!! They are known for their pancakes I guess, but we didn't try those. I ordered an omelet, by husband ordered some type of egg sandwich. We agreed we could have shared. It was a lot of food. He said he liked mine a little better than his. We there right when it opened, within about 5 minutes the place was FULL. That says a lot too. It was excellent.

Trip to Wicker Park

By Bexxcx |

The neighbourhood is so lovely and different so we wanted to try somewhere new and well recommended. There were a handful of vegetarian options on the menu so I opted for the omelette and chose three different fillings. It came with toast and potatoes but the omelette was so huge that I couldnt eat it all. Needless to say some birds were well fed with my toast. The potatoes were also lovely. My partner had poached eggs and bacon which all looked perfectly cooked. Staff were wonderful and the atmosphere was nice. Definitely recommend.

Great concept and fresh foos

By Richard E |

The food options and drinks menu was perfect here. Service was fast, albeit casual. The ingredients are very fresh but what let them down is I hate having to make a project out of a meal. The sandwich I ordered was too overstuffed to the point it was falling apart, wasn't too thrilled with that but it was good.

Favorite Breakfast Spot

By Librariandonna |

This is a favorite spot for my family to stop for breakfast. My kids love the red velvet pancakes. They top the pancakes with something like a melted frosting. It is very rich and the portions are huge. We did find out that you can order a half a portion of pancakes--that is important information! You may have to wait for a table on a Sunday, but it is worth it and there are plenty of places to shop in the area.

Chicago Breakfast Must!

By furrdog |

If you like different and decadent breakfasts, this is the place for you. Go very early on the weekends. The line start before they open or expect to wait. Well worth it!!

Bongolicious!

By mariaa1028 |

My husband and I love to do brunch ! We are always looking for brunch places when we travel. The Bongo Room is tha place! the breakfast is out of the ordinary. We order a burrito and 2 different kinds of pancakes- we could not make up our minds. If you happen to be in the amazing city of Chicago make sure to start your day with this breakfast!

Amazing pancakes!

By sorrylaurie |

I think I will dream of the pancakes I had at the Bongo Room - for years! I got the Myer Lemon and blueberry pancakes. Words can't describe how delicious they were. My friend ordered the banana strawberry pancakes and felt the same way. There were four of us and we all ordered different dishes, which were all fantastic. At first we couldn't find it, because with the shades closed it's hidden, but look closer - and it's there, and well worth the visit. I wish I lived closer. I would be a frequent guest.

Good portions, Good food. Great choice.

By pandmg |

We always try to visit this place when in Chicago. Weekdays are quieter, at weekends there are queues outside to get a table. The food is all cooked to order and the menu extensive. Service is good and th staff helpful.

Breakfast

Great breakfast for the family we shared a pancake dish and omelette dish and our son had fruit and potatoes, great service quality food large portions

Breakfast for Two

By Alamills |

We were at the Bongo Room on Milwaukee Ave. for breakfast. It was good but it didn’t totally live up to the expectations that I had. My wife wasn’t at all happy with the Veggie Croissant. My Chorizo Omelette was ok and the Cranberry Pancakes weren’t noteworthy. Service was friendly and very good. The ambiance is fine too.

Fun Breakfast

By DirkPitt2005 |

Got in right as it opened on a Nice Sunday and it filled up very quickly. Our server was great. We had the breakfast burrito which was rated excellent. A turkey sausage egg cheese on pretzel bun with pesto...we had 2 at the table one review says very good one was on the fence due to not really digging the sausage. One order an fancy apple oatmeal ginger cookie crumble french toast...Nice flavor but over powered by too sweet. The person eating it usually is good for finishing anything they could not finish the 2 slices. Over powered by the sweet. Other dishes we saw go by looked great. We will definitely come back for more.

Very nice brunch

By dwg51357 |

Visited for brunch on a Sunday morning and had a very nice experience. There was a bit of a wait to get in, which is a good sign. Drinks were very good - I had a bloody mary made with aquavit, which was very tasty. Food was excellent. My son had french toast made with marscapone-stuffed chocolate chunk bread that had a banana cream sauce - which he said was simply decadent. I had eggs benedict topped with beef tenderloin and porcini - also very good. Others in our group went with pancakes and eggs. The atmosphere is a bit frenetic but fun.

Get the eggs right!

By Ian D |

I was put onto this place because I was to have a breakfast meeting there on a Saturday, but the line was way too long. So, I came on a Monday for my last meal in my home country before I flew abroad. I was sorely disappointed. I ordered, simply, 2 eggs over-medium, sausage and English Muffin. When it arrived, I tried the potatoes first, which were lukewarm at best. The English Muffin was hot and the butter melted. Then I broke into the egg and yolk ran all over my plate! That's not over-medium! I wouldn't have sent it back because of the potatoes, but because there were 2 fouls, I did. While I waited, I was given a fresh-but-cold English Muffin and a side plate with my sausages on them...ummmm...Not good practice? My potatoes and eggs come, and the potatoes are hot and the eggs...still over-easy. I can't be bothered to send them back AGAIN! The wait staff were friendly, but something was up in the kitchen. If a place can't get the simplest American Breakfast right, some serious re-training is needed or another business.

Great, cool place to breakfast

By Philip E |

Very cool place with excellent service, food and ambience. We really loved the vibe of the place and will be going back again before we leave Chicago.

Large portions!

By KelloggBirdSanctuary |

We were looking for a breakfast spot, since we were staying in the area. We didn't have a wait (although it was earlier than the normal brunch crowd) and the wait for food wasn't that long. The breakfast sandwiches and pancakes are wonderful! Friendly staff.

Fantastic Breakfast

By Diego |

I ordered the chorizo potato avocado omelette even though the sweet side of the menu looked just as appealing. The portions are large so make sure you're hungry.

We went to the Andersonville location and received awesome service! The food was impeccable, we split the burrito and it was plenty for two people. Our table of 8 split the white chocolate caramel praline pancakes.

Amazing Brunch

By Kyle P |

My girlfriend and I were visiting Chicago for the half marathon and were looking for a good brunch spot to check out while in town. We were recommended the Bongo Room by a coworker of hers and couldn't have been happier. We have a high bar when it comes to brunch and are often let down by hyped-up local spots. We were most definitely not let down by the Bongo Room… in fact, we agreed that it was probably in the top 5 brunch spots we've visited across multiple states and countries. We visited the N. Clark street location on a Saturday morning. The special brunch selections (available only on Saturday and Sunday) all looked amazing, and we decided to try the lobster roll benedict and Chocolate banana french toast. They were both amazing, unique, and flavorful. The portion sizes are also very large. We also visited the south loop location on a Monday and tried a lunch sandwich and the white chocolate pancakes, which were both great. The white chocolate pancakes were particularly special. I'll definitely be visiting the Bongo room again the next time I'm in Chicago!

Yummmmm!

It's worth the wait! Ask to share one pancake with your group vs. getting a stack of the sweet but amazing cakes. The favorite at the table was the breakfast burrito - add chorizo. While we were waiting we went a few doors down and grabbed coffee - equally fantastic! Just make sure your whole group is present or they won't seat you at Bongo. And I wish there was bottomless mimosas :)

Unique delicious brunch!

Great unique menu for breakfast or lunch specials. Loved the pumpkin flapjacks and the choizo omelette. Also the chicken and pear club. We didn't even have to wait more than 5 minutes and were a party of 8! Definitely will return next time we are visiting our family in Chicago!

The food was plentiful and wonderful. A little expensive but so worth it. The berry French toast and breakfast burrito were amazing.

This is a great breakfast place so many good food options!! Definatley try or split the pancakes and eggs Benedict. Great spot only downside they don't take reservations. Been to Andersonville and bucktown both are great!!

Beautiful breakfast, service indifferent

Breakfast was delivered and came from the kitchen like a work of art. Artistic or decorative would be good adjectives to describe the look and and then the taste was even better. However on a morning without many customers the hostess / waitress was quite off-putting. It was almost like ordering breakfast was a bother. I had more interaction with the busboy and I ended up handing him the majority of the tip.

Delicious breakfast

We ate here with friends on a Saturday. We had to wait 45 minutes but it was a nice morning so we walked around the neighborhood and window shopped. The food was once again great. I had the chorizo omelet and I could not finish it because it was so much. If you have the time and the weather is nice, I would recommend it

Super friendly, super delicious

We visited at 10 on a Saturday morning and got a table straight away. Out waitress was prompt, care friendly, and had no problem accommodating our special order. All of the food was delicious and cooked perfectly.

Good service, average food

I had greater expectations seeing the reviews but can't way that this place tells much. Apart from the good service, the meals are average, the venue and furniture are worn out.

Perfect breakfast spot!

Bongo Room had great service and the food was delicious! We got the breakfast burrito and the blueberry pancakes. Both were good but the sauce on the blueberry pancakes was something different and so delicious!
