Just an ok place

By Malcolm S |

The Bookstore is ok but needs a bit of attention. The table was rocky but no one seem to notice. I found it to be a bit dark. Essentially it felt like part of the bar or a dark coffee house rather than an inviting place to start the day.

Tasty food

By jinnes |

We ate here because finding a decent restaurant in Seattle open on the evening of 4th July is a challenge. They were open, but closed at 8 pm. The food (flank steak) was good, and they were also serving a nice beer (as well as an amazing selection of whisky). I also had breakfast there - dinner was definitely the better option, even though there is a lot more variety on the breakfast menu than on the dinner menu.

good food good service

By Edward W |

Got in mid morning and was taken good care of quickly. The food was very good, waiter friendly atmosphere is interesting. Dinner (probably not).

Friendly spot, good location

By JDW952 |

Dropped in on a Wednesday evening. Very friendly (i.e. "West Coast solicitous") service. Small menu: my colleague had the lamb tagine, which he said was very good. I had the smoked duck, which was full of flavor. The polenta that accompanied it was a bit bland, and too creamy for my taste. Since they were serving a special of buttermilk fried chicken (which looked good at the next table) it was an easy out for them to put collards (which were fine) with the duck. Wine by the glass is pricey: the Zin ($14, at the lower end of the reds) was very good.

The heartbeat of whisky

By Frank M |

This bar is next to the Klimpton Alexix Hotel. While a hotel bar, it has no hotel bar vibe. Instead this feels more like a Soho House bar, filled with speakeasy decor, knowledgable bartenders, and decent food. The Whisky selection is apparently one of the best in Seattle. I enjoyed some fantastic Japanese Whiskies that blew my mind with their taste and smoothness. When it came to food, the desserts and breakfast were superb. The open windows that roll onto 1st street bring in the energy of the city while keeping the interior vibe cozy and calm.

Nice Breakfast Option

By Mark P |

The Bookstore is located in the Kimpton Alexis. The setting is quite nice, with a European Cafe feel. The food and coffee were very good. Service was a bit slow and disorganized, though it was very friendly and likely was a result of the restaurant being understaffed. We will definitely return.

Top-Notch Food, Cool Space!

By Vickie C |

If you are a foodie book nerd (and I am) you are going to love this place. The books are actually just part of the decor, but the food is amazing. We ate there for two dinners and a breakfast while staying at the Alexis Hotel. Excellent service at all meals, and our server recommended trying the clam chowder which is delicious but incredibly rich. They are also known for their fried chicken sandwich; my husband loved it. For breakfast, I ordered the avocado toast which comes with smoked salmon and these amazing marinated cucumbers. It was the perfect morning fuel for a long day of sightseeing. The smoked duck with polenta and collard greens was also delicious.

Very nice

By sarahcuda |

I've only been here a couple of times and have always had great service and the drinks are really good! Best Manhattan ever! I would like to try their food. It looks so good every time I've seen them bring something out. They are on the high side, as far as cost goes. $14 for a glass of Pinot Noir.

Very friendly helpful service!

By SandyGirl16 |

Great friendly staff! Brilliant wine tasting every night to introduce new wines Daily! Nice bar snacks, good choice of whiskey's! Nice cocktails!

Average fare

By TJWolf |

Nice ambiance just south of the real congestion of Pikes Place area. Hate to be too critical of a single meal experience, so I’d say this is probably a good place to come for drinks. My steak was mostly devoid of flavor, fries were very good. Wife’s salad with chicken was adequate, chicken very tender and flavorful. Cheese board was disappointing vs. it’s description and price. The meal overall was worthy of one half it’s price. Not terrible, but not great either.

Breakfast at cafe part of hotel Sonesta

By StephenCross |

Nice breakfast although slow service. Bit pricy to have $20 for 2 slices of toast, 3 slices of wafer thin bacon and a few potatoes. Yogurt parfait was good. Nice decor.

Rip Off!!!!

By gjarnold |

WAY too expensive for what you get! Poor customer service. Keep an eye on the staff. They don't know how to"serve" the customer.

Something for everyone

By Pam W |

The atmosphere at this bar and cafe is very light and fun filled. Lots of drink options with a good food menu. Chris, the bartender was fun, entertaining and really interacted with the customers. This place was great no matter what time of the day I went there.

Not for us but maybe for you

By SanClemenRAM |

We recently visited this restaurant while walking from Pikes Place to Safeco Field. It was midday and looked like an easy in easy out place at the right price point. So to or surprise they didn’t have a lunch menu, it was still breakfast. Looked good however the food was less than great. Eggs were over cooked, way to much butter on the fried toast and the service was rather slow for us being the only people dining. The bar did look nice and rather popular and based on the other reviews their dinner menu might be the high point. But given all the great options in Seattle this will be a pass for us here on out.

Rude and unreasonable service

By Nathan H |

Horrible service, snappy and demanding waiter. Guy was on an ego trip or something scanning my ID and was turned away because it was “ too damaged” ( I worked construction, never once been an issue before). Absolutely would not come back here.

Academic Chic

By pookala |

Since this small bar/cafe was located in out hotel, it was a given that we'd stop in at least once during our 4 night visit. But the staff was so lovely, the room so charming and the food and drink so solid that we ended up here for 2 breakfasts and a few late night drinks. Even if you're not staying at the Alexis, I think the bar is absolutely worth checking out for their whisky flights (American, Scotch and Irish available) and their well crafted cocktails served in a cozy and relaxed setting.

Bourbon bar

By Gregg W |

They have one of the best selections of Bourbons and service is outstanding. After going I read an article that Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighter said this is a place to visit in Seattle!

Cozy bar with good small dishes

By Stephen C |

Very convenient if you are a Bainbridge ferry foot passenger with a little time to spare. Really good clam chowder. I've been known to let the next ferry go without me when I get settled into this bar.

Not in sync with hotel

By Indigo_Scott |

The reputation of the hotel made me assume this would be excellent in every way and it wasn't. The ambiance, decor, location, staff--all good. Food, mediocre at best. Disappointed. Maybe go there for drinks. Not sure how you could mess that up. Don't bother with the food.

Nice selection

By Jill B |

Had a drink with a girlfriend during happy hour. Overall a very cute (read: small) bar. Our waitress was a little slow with orders but otherwise a fun time and good prices.

Friendly, comfortable spot

By ALENE R C |

Kelly was an excellent server and gave very friendly service. He did everything he could to assist in ordering and also to hurry up our service when we needed to leave at a certain time to leave for airport.

Great place for Brunch

By CKNorthVan |

We had brunch before seeing the Seahawks game this weekend and had great food!! My eggs were cooked perfectly and everything came hot and delicious!! I would highly recommend this fun place!!

Weekend Vacation in Seattle

By Snowfan88 |

We stopped here on the way to the Underground tour. My wife had the clam chowder and I had the smoked salmon salad. Both were super! Great experience for a walk in.

I ate here 3 days straight. Does that help?

By JONATHAN F |

I ate here for breakfast, lunch daily, I felt food was very good. Breakfast was very diverse, tasty and great staff as always.

The Egg and I

By TrepidTraveler1 |

I like having breakfast at different restaurants when I'm away from home. I found this one on Trip Advisor during my last stay in Seattle. It wasn't the menu or the location--they had me at "Bookstore." The restaurant is located in a beautiful boutique hotel. The walls are indeed lined with hardback titles; the server said that it was fine that I brought my own book, though. And it was more than the books for me. First of all, the coffee was excellent--local roasters (it's Seattle, you know), and it was nearly impossible to decide on what to eat. I settled on smoked eggs on avocado toast--again, they had me, this time at "smoked eggs." I've never had a smoked egg, but I'm hooked now. The toast was thick and had that soft crunchiness of home-baked whole grains, and the tomato aspic it was spread with--my mouth waters now, thinking of it. Glad I was in a bookstore--I waxed literal about the whole thing to the servers, who were lovely. I recommend this place--go have breakfast, and I'm sure that they'll smoke an egg for you!

Great Spot!

By Randi H |

Tucked in the beautiful Alexis Hotel this is a nice little spot for breakfast or a late night snack or nightcap. Good quality food and drinks with friendly bar tenders. The mussels with chorizo were the best mussels I’ve ever eaten.

Rude staff

By Shannon H |

The bartender couldn't have been less interested in us while we sat at the bar. I attempted to ask some questions about the tomatillo bloody mary and was given disinterested short answers. When I asked how it was different than their regular Bloody Mary, he replied "it's made with a tomatillo" - well, because I can read I already knew that. I ordered it anyways. It wasn't great. We were staying in the attached Kimpton, so tried again later when my sister-in-law met me for a drink while my husband finished showering upstairs. We tried to grab a drink at the bar - and were rudely told we needed to sit down at a table. Server was nicer than the bartender, but still cold and seemed annoyed we were there. Later, after dinner elsewhere, we thought we'd have a nightcap here. It was 10:10pm. We were told they were closing and the staff continued to be very rude to us - told us we could take our drinks up to our rooms if were staying there but we had to get out. Then when a friend exited with her drink, she was followed out and told it was illegal to leave the establishment with drinks by a very aggressive lady. My friend didn't react in the best way, but honestly - these folks were so rude to us for the third time in one day that we'd reached a limit - I work in the service industry and can usually empathize with the staff, but not this time. Would not recommend.

Breakfast was delicous

By Julie D |

Recently ate at the Bookstore Cafe for breakfast and it was delicious! Friendly service and nice atmosphere. Smaller menu...but had good options. Something for everyone's tastes.

Accidental Pleasure

By Colleen H |

Lovely brunch with superb menu by Chef Rivera. Watch for new, innovative menu with twists on old favorites (you'll never have another "McMuffin" like this one!) and write up in Seattle Times (it was there photographing during brunch). Charming and quiet. Highly recommend. Waitress highly attentive. Also, we valet parked and I have to say, Alec, the valet was spot on - took car away and it was back right on time. (We also stayed in hotel).

Best Brunch in My Life!

By John Y |

The Bookstore had the best brunch I ever had, hands down! I stayed in the Kimpton hotel for five days, and I did not go anywhere else besides here for Brunch. I can't stop trying every single dish on the menu, and, God, every single item is so delicious. The avocado toast is beyond imagination, and even their pancake had the most unusual texture and taste. This restaurant simply made Seattle a nicer city in my memory. (It's also insanely affordable for its quality too!)

Such great scotches!

By Max Garcia |

Such nice big selection of scotches, nice knowledgeable staff that helped me choose perfectly! Loved it! Classy but laid back, nice atmosphere! Dress up or dress down, either is ok. Low end scotches start at $13.

Good food but service issues

By twintp |

We have visited three times- for drinks, for lunch and for breakfast. Each time the theme has been slow service. Not as bad when just there for drinks, though it was a long time for one cocktail and a glass of wine. But lunch came very slowly and with one order completely wrong, we had to wait even longer. No offer of anything while I had to wait. Breakfast was the worst. Bloody Mary and Mimosa took forever, and then we had to wait to order. Waited a long time for food (I understand the kitchen is in the hotel so they have to walk through the lobby with your food- not ideal but does take more time) but then had to wait for condiments (2 asks) and they never refilled coffee unless you asked someone going by. So sad.

Breakfast stop while at the Alexis

By Dan H |

I have yet to stop by here for lunch or dinner, but it is a great way to start the day with a fun and diverse breakfast menu. Perfectly located on the first floor of the Alexis Hotel.

Wonderful for hotel guests!

By Isabelle S |

We came here because we were staying at the Alexis and it was a great choice! The whisky menu was extensive and the food was great.

Charming yet disappointing

By BathMonkey |

I wanted to love this place. The decor is charming, warm and inviting. Our British waitress was delightful. Unfortunately for $15 each we had the Cookies and Milk. This consisted of a small milk-with-alcohol drink which was just okay, and two large rock hard cookies. A good concept poorly executed, and very expensive. We left $34 later and disappointed. Probably going to give it another try- definitely not ordering this!!

Cute spot

By TravelswithH |

Great little spot for a meet up. Went with a friend and enjoyed the atmosphere of the area. Happy hour menu is available as well as an outdoor seating area. Decent prices but have seen better but regardless of cost, it's a nicely central area for business people and friends to meet up. It's connected to the Alexis Hotel (which is fabulous!) and very close to a lot of attractions.

Cool Bar

By Jackie255VT |

My husband an I stopped in here on our walk back to our hotel. Really casual, nice place. I liek quieter bars, not as much into a rowdy crowd. This place has a nice bar, cozy high-top tables and others. Drinks were great and snacks were good too. Love the decor, complete with built-in bookshelves etc. I'm a reader so if yo're into that type of thing. This is also attached to the Alexis Hotel, a Kimpton hotel. I've never stayed here, but in general, I"m a huge Kimpton Hotel fan. The accompanying bars/restaurants tend to be very good. This one lives up to that.

Great for breakfast

By Anthony N |

I stayed at the Alexis Kimpton and enjoyed breakfast at the Bookstore Bar and Cafe. It was a great place to have breakfast, and the ambience is warm and comfortable. The Eggs Benedict was very good and I recommend it very much. Everything at the restaurant was great, although my server was a bit subdued and probably could have smiled a bit more (seems like a small thing, but I noticed it).

Great For A Business Meeting!

By misopiso88 |

I was meeting a colleague downtown for lunch so we opted for The Bookstore. Food was tasty and the ambiance was perfect for a working lunch...not too loud or crazy. Nice bar in the front. Highly recommend if you are looking for upscale with basic American food.

the absolute worst service we have had in over 40 years - the server threw our bill down on the table

By Sharon B |

we went to this restaurant for years as we had been following caprial pence for years and had all her cookbooks - we asked if chef was in the house and were told yes so we took a seat and ordered. After 46 minutes and watching people being served who arrived and were seated after use we asked about our food. The server got a supervisor of some kind and we were told burgers took longer than anything else. Another 18 minutes went by and no food. We asked to speak with the chef and by some miracle the food arrived 7 minutes later. Burger was bloody - not even going to mention how bad my food was. We asked for the bill - did not complain - just didn't eat it. server did not ask if we liked it - just threw the bill on the table. We are extremely good guests - we tip well and we interact with our servers. This was hands down the worst experience we have ever had

For a great time, stop in and see Nick!

By Bogusmalarky |

This is without question, the best place in downtown Seattle to stop in for an afternoon cocktail. Great hand-shaken cocktails. Nice selection of whiskeys and beer. Food looked good, too. But the best part is Nick the bartender. This kid is the real deal! Make sure to tell him we sent ya!!

Part of business hosted function

By John V |

Great food. The staff were very accommodating and pleasant. Good selection fro the 30 or so people in our group. We had lunch and dinner here. very good

Wonderful lunch in cozy spot.

By BirdOfFlight |

We stopped by because of the cozy atmosphere and had a wonderful and elegant bowl of clam chowder and lox and bagel. We'd go back!

Great coffee shop

By Jjjjjjjjjj1 |

We enjoyed a relaxing cup of coffee here. Nice bookshop decor...particularly soothing on a cold rainy day.

Surprisingly good

By Wave R |

Restaurants associated with hotels are usually bland but our breakfast sandwiches were very good this morning. The eggs were nicely prepared and the brioche bread was delicious without being overly sweet. It's worth a repeat visit.

Poor service, enjoyable but unremarkable food

By nutmeg8629 |

We stopped in for brunch and both ordered the French omelette special. The omelette was overcooked but still enjoyable. The potatoes were well cooked/spiced and the highlight of the meal. The service was exceptionally slow - the place was only half full so being busy was not the issue. One of our drinks (iced tea) took 15 minutes to be served and no refill was offered until we asked for the check - we’d tried to flag someone down but were ignored. Then it took ages to get the check and so when it finally came we just handed our card to the server without checking (mistake) to later discover we were charged for double our meal. That was fixed eventually but again so so so slowly. We won’t be back. Everyone has an off day and I’m sure this isn’t the norm but the food wasn’t good enough to make up for the poor service.

convenient and good food

By drmarydrmary |

We ate here while staying at the Alexis. Late at night there was a good choice of little snacks and drinks, and at breakfast the bacon was great, the service friendly and helpful.

Unexceptional

By Alan B |

Great staff; pleasant-looking but noisy setting; only two items in two different meals were very good (the fish sandwich and the warm beet salad); good variety of beers and whiskeys.

Slow service, cold fries.

By Dave C |

Food came out fries were very cold though the burger was hot and good service was poor and slow. Appears the boy one waitress working.

Not sleepless at all!

By The Travelers Exchange |

First night in Seattle and our hotel houses a great little restaurant called the Bookstore! It's ambiance , lightly dimmed, candlelight tables with sea salt on every table and great music, makes this one of my favorites spots... oh and did I mention the food?? The burger is a must! If possible ask for an assortment of dipping sauces! We tried the hanger steak medium rare and although the steak was very flavorful, the mustard seed sauce was a bit overwhelming. All and all... great dining experience!

Cool little spot

By JoMortison |

Went to a Running shop next door & this spot was recommended by the salesperson. What a gem it turned out to be inside the Alexis boutique hotel. Warm & inviting. The bartender, Kevin was attentive & entertaining👍. HUGE scotch selection! We'll be back to this place when we come back to Seattle.

Yum!!

By Jeffrey Vermillion |

So many great flavors, and staff is phenomenal. Dry rub Chicken wings are delicious. Great selection of Whisky, bourbon and Scotch.

Cool place

By Dominic W |

Great atmosphere. Good food and service was spot-on. Nice and easy as I was staying in the hotel. Not a typical hotel bar though. Worth a try

Loved it!

By Harry K |

The best service experience I've had in all of Seattle! I recommend this place to anyone who's into drinking or simply just having an all-around great time! William was my bartender and he's awesome!! ❤

Expected more based on reviews

By Natalia9408 |

Well I really wanted to like this place. We had already tried a couple of recommended breakfast spots around Seattle but this time needed somewhere close to our hotel. We found this place and decided to give it a try. First off I cant fault the service, our waiter was very friendly and accomodating, but this place is let down with the food and price. I ordered a herb omelette with wheat toast and it came with a rocket salad on the plate. I love rocket, and vinegar, but the salad was so overly dressed I couldnt eat it, it was far too vinegary. The omelette was alright, but bland compared to the breakfasts weve had in Glos and Planet Java. It wouldnt have been so bad if to top it off the bill hadnt be so high. My girlfriend asked for the egg white scramble without the bread or quinoa, yet was still charged the full amount for the dish. Would say almost twice as expensive as other places we have had breakfast in and just not worth the price.

Great food and great service

By Tracey E |

The Bookstore had outstanding food and service. The bartender and servers were very friendly and accommodating. As for the food, I would especially recommend the New England Clam Chowder! It has a great relaxed vibe with indoor and outdoor seating.

Bookstore Bar and Cafe Great Food, Drink and Ambiance!

By johnwaterfield |

The Book Store Tavern/Restaurant was quaint but yet lots of fun with delicious beverage and food selections. Staff was professional, friendly and knowledgeable.

GREAT whisky bar!

By DAWNVW |

This is a GREAT bar for all manner of whisky (or whiskey depending where you're from ). The bartender is extremely knowledgeable and fun. The bar food is above average and I have to recommend the cheese and crostini tray. very nice selection. As the name suggests, it's a library-like bar and very cozy. It's part of the Alexis Hotel so if you're staying there, and I'd recommend that in a heartbeat, then you're in luck. They have a James Beard award winning chef which is why the "bar food" is vastly superior to others. You're welcome ;-)

Healthy breakfast with professional servers, special touches for solo traveler

By Shorepine1 |

Partner and I enjoyed a terrific breakfast with options from egg white scramble (delish) to organic oatmeal, and a fruit bowl with something called fingerling grapes. Server was a cut above the usual hotel restaurant staff. Unique touch of a wide selection of good magazines (e.g., New Yorker) on an open shelf. I now wish all hotel restaurants had this for when I travel solo for work.

OK

By sami D |

Food is acceptable but not great. Steel cut oats were cold and served without accompaniment. Had to request. Latte overly foamy.

Gerat Meal but a little pricey

By John V |

Had breakfast here. Good food but a little pricey but what do expect downtown and connected to the hotel clientel.

Somewhat cramped; good twist on eggs benedict

By YakimaClan |

Good place to eat if you don't have time to scout somewhere else. Tables and chairs are packed tight, making it feel cramped. Service was efficient, two ladies serving 12 customers.

Must try Clam chowder!!!

By 577marlene |

A delightful eatery at the Alexis hotel. The decor was masculine or collegiate-like feel with dark woods, leather, dimmed lighting bookshelves and old-fashioned bar. The staff were very helpful with recommendations to suite our needs and did mention that chowder is excellent! So glad they did because I loved it!!! I don't know how they get that deep of flavored into the broth but very well done!

Pleasant suprise

By YFAM_SR |

New chef and it is evident!! Food was terrific. No longer just a convienence for hotel guests. Bookstore is now a destination spot!

Dinner

By Elaina M |

I had the lentil bowl. It was so good I asked for the chef to be complimented. Great taste, great service, and lovely quiet ambience.

Unexpectedly good

By Allan B |

I suppose the whole business hosted in a hotel thing has changed in recent years, but Bookstore was still a very pleasant surprise for four foot weary explorers after a hot Sunday spent over at Bainbridge. The service was of a high standard and the food really good.

Best Breakfast

By lanicopip |

I had 2 amazing breakfasts with great service. No waiting and the meals were great and the atmosphere is cozy with lots of books

It's not a bookstore nor a cafe.

By K2E1 |

There is a space toward the back that has books in a shelf but don't be misled, it's not a bookstore. I can't say it lends that much to the ambiance which is more akin to a cafe but it's not really a cafe either. It has a bar, yes. So that is correct. My nephew and I stopped here for a drink and a bite on a Saturday afternoon after a game at CenturyLink. The brunch menu looked inviting but we weren't there for brunch. We were in time for happy hour and although the menu was limited there were some interesting choices. I had a cross between soft tacos and poke - spicy raw tuna with soft round corn tortillas. I admit, quite delicious and spicy! My nephew had what was essentially an attempt at a Philly Cheesesteak - at least they didn't call it that. He said it was good. I had a piece of the meat and it was smoky. Its location off the lobby of one of the Kimpton Hotels in downtown Seattle made it feel like a hotel bar which can be good but also pricey. But it did "feel" touristy. Again, not bad but local color, not really.

Pretty brunches!!

By Latifa |

How fun is bookstore????? Pretty darn fun!! This beautiful space/bar/ café is all kinds of cute. Its comfy, casual enough yet with stunning food to feel like a night out. it is kind of hidden but kind of night. That bar counter is all kind of charming! The food here is beautiful. Poke bowl is delish! Love their beautiful creations as well cocktails! And their brunch is worth getting out of bed for. Avocado toast be damn! Or that cucumber toast!!! Lox and bagel?! Yummmmmm! It is delicious!! Have you seen that massive chicarones! Avocado toast? Or that stunning fruit plate!! Cocktails in a beautiful antique jar? Yes!! Thanks chef :) it's the prettiest thing I've drank!! And thanks for my special fruit plate! Prettiest thing ever!! Their menu seems to be evolving with seasons which is great. Ever changing menus are my favorite. The chef is super talented and friendly! Someone that will feed you and strike a conversation with you as well! Did I mention how good their brunch is though? They have an impressive tasting menu coming up for dinner!! All local products!!

Best hotel-bar in Seattle

By Mark A |

This place has a great vibe, excellent drinks and pretty good food options. When I lived in Seattle we'd often meet here even though it's a 'hotel bar' it's one of THE places to meet for drinks.

Good place for early breakfast in Seattle

By Ido8all |

Half of the place is coffeeshop (restaurant) and other half is a bar. I took eggs Benedict which was fairly well and my colleague took the orange donut and she loved it. The staff were nice and friendly and food came fast.

Great for late-night eats (& drinks)

By FitMomma |

Located inside the Alexis Hotel, this bar decorated with tons of old books is a great stop for food & cocktails. The cocktail menu is creative without being over-the-top. The food was really good and reasonably priced. Plus, we could just hop on the elevator to our room afterward - perfect!

Nice Spot for a Quick Breakfast

By HummerBob |

The care is located in the Alexis Hotel. We walked across the street from Hotel 1000 for a change from Boka. A good choice of breakfast items. Very convenient. I left my phone here and came back hours later and it had been found by staff and turned in to the hotel desk. I was sure it would be gone.

Lunch gone a little awry.

By Brenda N |

First of all, we would return to the Bookstore Bar and Cafe in a heartbeat. Great location, great ambience, and service that was perfection made this a lovely visit. We had been bookstore crawling all morning in the rain, and decided that the Bookstore Bar and Cafe would be a fitting place for lunch. The decor is welcoming and warm, and kind of estate library-like. We ordered the hamburger plates; my husband ordered his without cheese. His burger came with cheese, so the server took it back to the kitchen to be remade. In the meantime, I began to eat my burger and it was very very salty. The server brought my husband's new, improved burger out to him and he bit into it and noted that it was salty, too. I need to point out that the veggies (lettuce and tomato) were very fresh, and the bun was fresh and tasty. The fries were absolute perfection. The server finally came to the table and asked, how was the burger? Having been asked, we said it was a little salty. She nodded and said that she and the manager had split the burger my husband sent back and thought it was way too salty, and the manager came to the table to speak to us about it. Here's the thing. Stuff happens. The cafe had a new chef who likes his food pretty salty and the manager and the server had tried to tell him that it was too salty, but now they had back up opinions, and I have no doubt the issue was addressed, given how apologetic they were and the steps they took to make sure we left happy. I have every confidence that this was an isolated incident, and while mistakes can get made, the measure of the quality of a restaurant is how they address the mistake. I would not even hesitate to go there again for lunch or dinner. I bet it would be amazing and delicious, because I truly felt that this was an anomaly to the kind of quality they produce. The rest of the menu looked really well planned, and if I remember correctly, the breakfast portion of the menu is served all day.

Bookstore Breakfast Excellent

By KennyM |

We were a group of 6 and were seated immediately. Our server was excellent. Friendly and efficient. I ordered the traditional breakfast and it arrived quick and hot. Eggs were over easy and the bacon was crisp. Would dine here for breakfast again.

Cool restaurant/bar!

By tkp1975 |

This place is neat!! The decor is really cool, totally makes you feel like you're in a bookstore. We only came for cocktails & dessert and both were amazing. They have an eclectic menu and even have a variety of whiskey flights for tasting if whiskey's your thing. It's in the Alexis Hotel where we stayed so that made it really convenient. Would definitely recommend checking this place out!

Intimate

By 805onthego |

Great little place for a cocktail / glass of wine after walking atrond the city no view other than pedestrian and auto traffic ,

Stunningly bad food

By skier003 |

I've never sent food back before. I had the mussels which were so fishy I thought I might get sick. It is amazing to me that a restaurant would not try its food before serving it to the public. Anyone who tasted this would have known they were bad. The restaurant took them off the bill, as they should. But then the smoked chicken came out. Love smoked poultry, but it was dry and stringy. It was edible. I never will go back

Lovely Bar Nice Happy Hour

By MartynG_11 |

Part of the Kimpton Hotel the Bookstore Bar & Cafe on 1st is a relaxing place away from busy 1st Avenue. Nice interior with cosy mood lighting we arrived at Happy Hour (3 till 6) Wine $7 Beers $5 Cocktails $9. Happy hour also offer a selection of tasty small plates. Together we chose an Old Fashion, a Cabernet, a Chardonnay, and a Bourbon (not in (HH) plus salt & pepper Chicken Wings & Olives. Everything very good, well presented, and served to our table in a professional way by our friendly service. The Kimpton Alexis looks a delightful place to stay and this part of it we will definitely return to as Seattle residents.

Okay

By Melinda D |

Drinks were good late at night. The food was okay but nothing to write home about. The coffee was terrible (weak and tasted burnt)

Lovely food and good service

By Jane D |

Delicious food...good service and the atmosphere was lovely. Good selection of vegetarian plates I would recommend it for brunch

Best damn fried chicken ever!

By Matt W |

Let's start out saying how chill the environment is. This is a real bookstore. They sell books and make amazing cocktails and food. I highly suggest coming here to unwind after a long day of work. Order a cocktails and get the fried half chicken. It was so juicy and flavorful that my mouth is watering just typing about it. I can not wait to go back for the chicken again for sure. The staff was friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is inviting and had some fun lighting and decor with books as the theme. Go Check it out. You won't be disappointed.

We were looking for somewhere in downtown for breakfast and stumbled across this cafe. The staff were very welcoming, the menu had plenty of choice, reasonably priced and we weren't kept waiting. The food was nicely presented, plentiful and very tasty.

NIce bar with lots of whisky options

By FamilyTravelJunkkie |

I had breakfast one morning but the rest of the time I just hung out in the bar. The cocktail waiter was very good.

Bite to eat after a long day travelling

By Adykell |

Ate here for convenience as arrived at the adjoining Alexis hotel. We were not disappointed. The service was prompt both in terms of ordering and the food arriving and the quality was great. The chicken sandwich was a winner.

Great whiskey selection

By Bernie C |

We’re staying at the Kimpton and happened in to the bookstore bar and café. Sad at the bar excellent selection of whiskeys. My wife wanted something to nibble on and the kitchen whipped up a small appetizer for us. Fantastic service and will be back again

Mix good drinks, conventient if you are staying in the hotel.

By VancouverBD |

we were staying in the Kimpton Hotel and stopped in for a late dinner/lite fare. Service was pleasant but was slow. Food was average and on the pricey side. This was a Sunday night . We also had breakfast there and we were the only people in the place? Again service was pleasant but slow. Like a lot of hotel associated restaurants we were there because it was with the hotel we were staying at. I think it is best for a place to have drinks at. Has a super bookstore/library feel.

Clam Chowder is AWESOME!!

By Kimberly G |

We just dropped in on our way through town, I was disappointed they didn't have any appetizers, so we ordered a side of french fries (which were cold), and a cup of chowder which was AMAZING!

Lovely Bunch

By Paul P |

Enjoyed the brunch very much. Avocado Toast preparation unique and excellent. Service superb and friendly

Nice bar, not so much as a cafe

By Bibndum |

The bar is nice and has a great selection of spirits. Go to have a drink at the bar, the staff are friendly and the bar setting and decor offer a comfortable ambiance. The food at the cafe itself is not something I can recommend. Ate there for breakfast, the latte was the worst I've ever had - I could not even drink it and sent it back. The poached eggs were swimming in the water they had been poached in and the the potatoes were over salted. There are so many better places to eat nearby, skip this one.

Great ambiance.

By dgryan1 |

Wonderful way to start your day. Try their Eggs Benedict. The coffee was excellent and the service superb.

Cozy restaurant in a great historic building!

By Robin R |

A really nice restaurant in the Alexis Hotel ... great bar and a good menu. Very friendly service and fun atmosphere ... always good to see old buildings with character housing nice places like this.

Love The Happy Hour

By Marla M |

Amazing, cozy ambience amongst books and bottles of liquor. Very European feel, located in the entrance of a hotel. Great service and friendly staff. I come by every time I am in town.

Great Chowder

By Bellogirlz |

We had the chowder soup for lunch. Clams still in their shells and a gorgeous cream sauce. Yum. The staff were very helpful and gave us advice about local places to visit off the tourist grid. Great atmosphere. Good value.

Brunch - expensive but good

By Karen R |

This small cafe had a very limited menu on Saturday afternoon. We ended up ordering breakfast and had a standard two egg, toast and potato breakfast and their "egg" Benedict. Both were tasty but $17 and $16 and portion size was small but adequate. Service was fast and friendly. The main issue I have is that they add a 4 percent surcharge to the bill for management to help them pay their minimum wage workers. When you take into account the tax (10 percent), tip (15-20 percent) and this surcharge (4 percent) you are quickly coming up with a size-able add on to the bill. I have a hard time believing that management isn't able to pay their workers while charging $17 for breakfast. We won't be returning to this cafe.

You have to try the Clam Chowder!

By blimeytravelbugs |

We ate a lot of breakfasts and dinners here and tried to make happy hour on most nights. It is a good atmosphere and it does get busy in the early evenings. The drinks are made well and the service is friendly. You have to try the clam chowder - it's the best we've had!

Excellent service! Great food

By Benny K |

I stopped into the bookstore bar and cafe the other night for dinner with my girlfriend who was visiting from out of town. The wait staff was great and the food was awesome. We both got the burger with an egg on it. I'm really picky about my burgers but my girlfriend and I agreed it was one of the best we've had! The redheaded bartender was really friendly and even the valet (Aiden) and the dark haired front desk girl inside the hotel were friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back!

Nice quaint local coffee shop

By DanJB_11 |

We ate breakfast here on our first morning in Seattle. My wife said they had good coffee. The tea suited my taste. The food seemed a little salty, but other than that, I was ready to go back the next morning. Good food.

Upscale Vibe

By NYCWWExplorer |

I was attending a show at the Kimpton Alexis when I took a one hour break to work from “the Bookstore,” the hotel’s bar/restaurant. The Cappuccino tasted good. Service was efficient. Wi-Fi worked well. The atmosphere was upscale. Price seems on the high side but still if I go to Seattle again, I would love to return to the Bookstore for more than coffee.

Cozy spot for a drink

By Brichford |

I can't speak to the food served here but the craft cocktails are well made... cozy space and good service. Would like to find a way to spend more time here but the first impression is a very good one!

Great Just-Before-Closing and Breakfast Service

By Ann T |

While staying at the hotel, we popped in with friends just before closing and were assisted by an attentive, fun and expert server (we forget his name! - but he said he's also a teacher) - who in no time got us delicious food served hot and promptly, exactly as we requested. We were able to visit with our friends comfortably and enjoy a late bite. I liked the smoked fish (requested without shellfish and they were able to deliver) - and the wine was reasonably priced for these days. The next morning we had breakfast, again with a friendly helpful waitress, who was prompt with coffee refills and additions to our orders. We like the cozy atmosphere, though it can get a little noisy if crowded, we were grateful to hitting both meals without a lot of other people there, so it was perfect for visiting.

Cool atmosphere

By 150hotelnightsayear |

I really like the atmosphere. There are several defined areas to eat at: the bar, the dinning area behind the bar, and a nook to the side. Happy hour has very good prices. I stayed at the Kimpton hotel for several nights, and just ate here for dinner because it was convenient after all day meetings. The food was good - but I would not say it was amazing. I would not recommend the burger - only because there was no meat! They would be better served using a less fancy meat so they can do a more substantial burger.

lovely!

By canesgal |

beautiful, fun, great staff, and kid friendly :) Sit on the patio on a nice day! Enjoy their fantastic brunch and the flourless chocolate dessert is amazing!

Another Scotch & Bourbon Please!

By Kim O |

Loved the ambiance and every staff member at the bar we had contact with! The Bookstore Bar & Cafe was the selling point to booking at the hotel. They have a great selection of Scotch & Bourbon. We had the chance chat with our bartenders about our preferences and to try a few new ones on recommendation. Very knowledgeable and friendly, so much so that this became our end of the night ritual during our trip to Seattle. Had the most amazing old fashioned that tickled the senses! We didn't have the chance to try any of the food as we always arrived very late in the evening. But we were welcomed in with smiles every time. I fell in love with the whiskey bottles reused as water bottles. I would highly recommend The Bookstore Bar & Cafe for all those who enjoy their Whisk(e)y. Thanks to the whole staff who were so welcoming and gave us a great experience during our trip. Sláinte Mhaith!

Best Clam Chowder Ever!

By Julie S |

The menu, ambiance, wine list, whiskey/bourbon list and service are unbeatable. I only wish I would have dined here every night of my stay and tried the clam chowder on my first day instead of the last. Best I've ever tasted!

Nice Place - Rather Quaint

By Richard C |

The ambience here is terrific - seemed like a neighborhood bar and everyone is friendly. Stopped in for late evening cocktails which were quite good. The beer selection also seemed good but several of those listed were not available. Our waitress, although very pleasant, was unable to describe the alternative selections and seemed a bit confused over what was and wasn't available. Maybe it was just a long day and rhe late hour.

Clean and Friendly

By wyocowgirl13 |

The staff was very accommodating and friendly. The rooms are clean and elegant. The beds are very firm. I suggested to them that they use a different fabric softener on their towels and that they put in deeper tubs when they renovate.

Nice place but really only because its convenient

By Katsangel70 |

The place is nice, the people are lovely and the decor cosy but the menu is fairly average with not a lot of choice and nothing that leaps out and grabs you. We've been a number of times but only as we're staying at the hotel and it's convenient. The beef burger was fantastic and the beef stew was tasty but breakfast is fairly average - the pancakes are way to big for even two people to share and were pretty dry. The eggs were good, but the side potatoes were again dried out. Staying here for a week and day 2 I'm bored with the menu...

Nice Neighbourhood Bar & Feel

By Merril Y |

Located in the Alexis Hotel, this bar/resto has its own feel with two areas allowing a choice of either a bar layout and feel or a restaurant. Popped in for a glass of wine and the bartender was friendly and engaging... always, a telling feature of a good bar is when the bartender makes all orders easy... whether mundane or interesting. We've had a couple of meals here before which were both very good. This time - just the simple, sit at the bar and have a good glass of red. Bookstore scored on all counts...

Excellent Selection, Great Prices, Cool Bartenders

By RealRoadWarrior |

When I stayed recently in the Alexis Hotel, I forgot to review the Bookstore Bar and Cafe. So allow me to remedy that oversight. As this is an excellent little bar, secreted in the Alexis hotel, it deserves it's own review. After a long day of tourism, we were well ready for a relaxing drink. My daughter recommended we check out the hotel bar. As we had no interest in navigating around the area to find a decent bar, only to have to navigate back afterward, we settled on the Bookstore Bar. Although the bar was filled with people enjoying their drinks and the warm atmosphere, the bartender got to us quickly. He recommended one of their local draft beers. As I make beer, I assumed the beer would be good but not great, and I was wrong. My wife tasted my beer, smiled at me, and then said, "I have one just like that". I could have drank that beer all night, but looked up at the wall behind the bar and spied my favorite brand of Bourbon Pappy Van Winkle. While it is not common to see it in local bars, it is not unheard of in better bars that specialize in whiskies. My really surprise was that they had the 12, 15 and 20 year old bottleings all available and reasonably priced. I guess I'll need to come back and enjoy them all... Highly recommended!

Charming Spot for Coffee and Breakfast

By Merril Y |

Located in the classic and well-maintained Alexis Hotel, Bookstore Bar & Cafe offer a cozy ambience, well-crafted menu that hits all the right spots - a straightforward egg, bacon, potatoes and toast breakfast.

Nice Sunday morning stop

By timiniowa |

Stopped in here on the way to catch the Amtrak back home. We sat at the bar to watch some football and have a bite to eat. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the salad and breakfast burrito and the bloody mary and the stout on tap. The bartender was attentive without being nosy and provided excellent service even tho some friends of his were also sitting at the bar, Cool looking (attached) hotel - very dog friendly. We'll be back.

A surprise

By Suzanne B |

Seattle is a city where you can get the finest meals in a variety of restaurants, many within walking distance. My friend and I had our first meal at Bookstore and never went anywhere else. The menu was innovative, the staff advice was spot on and the food was delicious.

Drinks after work

By Kenneth B |

Nice large bar with a big outdoor seating area. Attentive table service, a number of craft beers on draft.

Charming

By Gunz |

Bookstore Bar & Cafe has a warm atmosphere. Very relaxing and charming. If its nice out, sitting outside (in front) with a good Whiskey or Bourbon is what I prefer. :) Its convenently located at the bottom of the Alexis Hotel, but not far from other hotels (1,000 or W)

Overpriced for the taste and quality

By redheadkurtz |

Really expensive and there were minimal options for anything I'd eat at lunch. I settled on the mushroom bucatini and it was just meh. My friend ordered the soup of the day, a black bean soup. They never mentioned to her how spicy it was and she couldn't eat it. She ordered the butter lettuce salad and it was also meh. The coke was $5! Not worth the high prices, although it's a great location.

Limited Menu, Service Needs Improvement

By backpacker31 |

Stopped in for breakfast. From the limited menu we ordered oatmeal and coffees. Oatmeal was steel cut - not my favorite, but prepared well nonetheless. Coffees were okay - could have been bolder. Service started out well - welcoming and attentive, but by the end of our meal there were no servers to be found. I ended up tracking someone down in the kitchen area in order to get our check.

A pricy disappointment.

By Mary K |

It's not a restaurant, It's a cafe and apart from the prices, the food and service reflects that. We were staying at the Alexis Hotel. The bookstore bar and cafe serves as the restaurant for the hotel. We had breakfast at the cafe. We ordered fruit as a first course and eggs, bacon and home fried potatoes as a main course. After a long wait, we chased up our order, only for it to all arrive at once! That's not how it should be. I wanted time to enjoy the fruit, before starting on the cooked breakfast. Not what you'd expect from a hotel that charges top of the range prices.

Very nice hotel bar and restaurant

By DublinSkip |

Don't be misled by the name, there really are no books for sale here. But there is good food and great views out to the busy street. We ate every breakfast there during our stay.

Popcorn Polenta

By Katherine W |

I stopped in right before the kitchen closed for the night and had some great food. The staff was so warm and gracious, wish I stopped by more often during my trip to Seattle.

Worth the stop!

By Wanderer0213 |

Great service and plenty to choose from! I stopped in for a early drink and the choices were top notch! I didn't order food, but everything that went buy looked really nicely done.

Brunch

By Courtney06 |

My family and I ate here for brunch. I got eggs Benedict and it was delightful. Everything was well prepared and seemed to be fresh cut, like the bacon for example. It was big thick slices. Definitely recommend this place.

Good but Pricey

By m_broussard |

We were staying @ the connecting hotel so grabbed some breakfast here. It was good & our waitress was nice but $50 for 2 people to have breakfast w/no alcohol is a bit pricey. I would recommend walking down to the Biscuit B!tch.

Amazing!

By NCtravelz |

We were all won over by the Mas o Menos cocktail with tequila and mezcal. We each ordered it and loved it. I raved about this drink for days. I was out with friends all day and we really needed to charge up our phones and grab a drink before they left on the ferry. I never thought we'd find a bar with outlets but we walked in hoping to find an outlet near an open table or behind the bar. Imagine our surprise to find multiple outlets built into the table! Lovely atmosphere, great drinks, and outlets!

Nice but snooty

By Alejandro A |

Really great drinks ok food. I had a lot of fun, the bartender made great drinks and the people were nice.

Okay but hidden fees…

By Kelly F |

The bookstore itself was quaint. The service was ho hum. The food was excellent. My biggest complaint is that they put a 50 cent surcharge per egg because of the shortage!? Wth!? It is not our fault!? Not impressed. Total cash grab.

Great Place to Drink with Friends

By Aggie85 |

We found the Bookstore Bar & Cafe to be a warm and comfortable place to gather for drinks with friends and family. The staff was very friendly and attentive. They even remembered us on our return visits and treated us as friends.

Rouben sandwich extremely good!

By dinarayphoto |

We randomly get to this place while we're walking in downtown. I love the atmosphere of this bar. When I'll move to Seattle it will be my fave bar...)

Best ever!

By Mattii L |

William made my day! Thanks for allowing my Sunday drink fest turn into a Sunday funday instead. I no longer have a need for entertainment and satisfaction due to his incredible service on this lovely Sunday day!

Great - but expensive!

By YearoftheRabbit |

The food here for breakfast was super tasty! The coffee was very good. The service is very good but very slow -- took 1 hour for the food to come out so only 4 stars (and too pricey for me).

nice place for drinks

By Pj D |

cozy little cafe/bar with a personable bartender and great drinks. sit outside if the weathers nice, or in the cozy interior on those rainy Seattle days.

Amazing food & cocktails

By Melanie W |

This bar-resto has a Happy Hour which attracts a lot of clientele. Good times at a great value. If you have time to dine, do it! You won’t be disappointed. The menu and cooking are thoughtful. You must try the fried chicken & waffles. Yum! And a huge selection of whiskies, scotches and other beverages to enjoy. Staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. The decor is stylish and cozy. A surprise find!

Great food and drinks

By trav8169 |

Best clam chowder, real clams! Great drinks, knowledgable bar tender explained all the different whisky flights, thank you. Best bacon and eggs I have ever had. Sounds silly but, yes I am exclaiming that this place has the best bacon and eggs!

Good selection of healthful breakfast selections.

By Richard F |

Sufficient choices of breakfast selections from hot cereal, usual egg dishes, fruit, yogurt, nonstop coffee. Not an inexpensive breakfast meal. Appreciated that food servers were very pleasant and did not rush to have us leave.

Unwelcoming and over priced

By AEZ22 |

So the bar side st nights, sucks. Last call at 1130 and we arrived at 1110 to be told they're closing in 10 mins? Breakfast on the other side is a joke, $16 for an omelette and $5 for coffee???

Great for coffee and breakfast

By OldEagle48 |

The Bookstore is the bar/restaurant that is part of the Kimpton Alexis Hotel on 1st Avenue in downtown Seattle. From their claim about having more types of scotch than any other place in Seattle, you might think it is primarily a bar with bar food. Definitely not. While the whiskey and wine selections are extensive, they serve amazing food. For breakfast, we enjoyed the Benedict in a Hole (eggs Benedict) and the avocado toast. The eggs Benedict, my wife's favorite, were outstanding and served with delicious grilled maple ham. The Hollandaise sauce was warm, creamy and delightful. The avocado toast served with a soft boiled egg, tomato and pico de gallo was equally delicious. The also serve great coffee, but who doesn't in Seattle. I am glad we stayed at the Alexis Hotel as we might not have dined here otherwise. A great choice for breakfast or a drink in the evening.

Recommend for Alexis hotel guests

By LuvTOtravel06560 |

Though there are hundreds of choices to eat in Seattle, we had dinner here for conveniency to hotel and really enjoyed it. Staff is very friendly and efficient. Food was delicious. Can eat outside, in restaurant, or adjoining bar. Noise level is comfortable inside (outside is on busy street).

Tasty Breakfasts

By Kathryn N |

There is a tasty and varied menu here for breakfast. The omelette special was particularly good. Service is good and very convenient for people staying at the Kimpton Alexis Hotel.

Wonderful ambience, good food

By rageisman |

Ate breakfast here and got appetizers takeout while staying at Hotel Alexis. Breakfast was very nice with excellent service. Would definitely recommend the avocado toast. Both tuna melt and garlic fries were very tasty with huge portions. Very glad to have this restaurant in our hotel.

Small menu but good

By PortlandBob |

Great food and an even better whisky selection with some innovative drinks. The menu is small but the food makes up for it.

Great brunch

By MEMDallas |

We were staying at the Kimpton and decided to “stay in” for brunch before leaving. My Lox Benedict was wonderful and my husband’s oatmeal was also good. The front desk had suggested Tilikum, but we couldn’t get a reservation. Today we had lunch at Tilikum and it was not remotely as good as the Bookstore!

Our favorite hangout in downtown Seattle

By Melane T |

My husband was based at the Alexis for 6 months before we moved to Seattle last summer. He got to know all the wonderful staff at Bookstore like Shawn (sorry if I’m spelling it wrong, friend!) and Cheston and Amanda. They took good care of my hubby! And then we started meeting here after work and sharing it with friends who come to visit. It’s super cozy, so easily accessible to other places downtown and oh the cocktails! The happy hour menu is perfect for a light dinner or fun snack. It’s a staple for us- home away from home! Don’t miss the brunch menu, too!

Hashbrowns are amazing!

By Sarah S |

I ordered an omelet-- it was chock-o-block full of veggies and cheese however my favorite part of the meal was the hash browns-- so good! Staff was very friendly and stopped in merely because of the name (I'm a bibliophile)... we had coffee but it looks like they had a decent whisky and gin collection as well.

Great Place Before, During or After Seahawks Football Game for Brunch

By ScottD58 |

Staying at the Alexis Hotel Saturday night, but we didn't have tickets to Sunday's Seahawks game. So, we did the next best thing, we hung out at the Bookstore Bar in the Alexis hotel near CenturyLink Field. Not a sports bar per say, but with better than expected food and cocktails, its a great place to watch the Hawks on TV. Before the game the Bookstore Bar was buzzing with Blue & Green Seahawk jerseys, but by kickoff it had thinned ou a lot. We found a comfy couch to sink into with a great view of the television. The Blueberry Pancakes with Ricotta Cheese were the perfect antidote to the Gala the night before, and the Bloody Mary's got us in gear for kickoff. By 3pm they were bringing out the popcorn. We hung out through the 3rd quarter, but by then the Hawks had the game well in hand so we hit the road. The bartender told us the place picks up again after the game, but during a home game, the place was almost all ours!

an OK Hotel Bar/Restaurant

By Scott C |

we ate here twice. Onc for breakfast and the food was ok, nothing outstanding and nothing to write home about. We next went for after dinner drinks. Had a cappuccino and it was horrid.

Great place to sit and watch the world pass !

By KAButler2014 |

We had been walking for a while and needed to sit to recharge. The bookstore had been recommended to us and we were close by. We had a light lunch and some drinks. Service was great,I think it was Ian who was our server.

Loved the sourdough pancakes!

By andrea p |

We really liked this place. Best pancakes every. It was a little loud, but we still enjoyed it. Good service.

Pricey but worth the Money!

By GaryReg |

Associated with the Alexis hotel this is a neatly decorated bar that looks like the library room in a fine old house. Although a bit pricey, $20 US for a hamburger and salad, the “Bookstore” burger was among the best I’ve ever had. My sweetie had a chunky Caesar salad and really enjoyed it. I had a Mosaic pale ale from Sea Pine Brewery which went nicely with the burger. We walked around the lobby of the Alexis hotel and it looks really "cool" as well!

Drinks!

By Collette L |

Lovely bar, great service and ambiance. The bartenders know what they are doing and will work to make you happy with your drinks. They made an amazing French 75 and a Black and Tan out of a Guinness can which is very impressive. The real deal!

Yummy food at The Alexis

By tipitv |

The 'Bookstore" is located inside the Alexis Hotel. I really enjoyed my toasted Quinoa and egg whiter scramble for breakfast. Gets busy in the mornings so leave time.

Meh

By Rboss82 |

Not impressed. Food was mediocre (compared to other places visited) and on the more expensive side. I was charged for something separately even though I was omitting 2 ingredients off the order and replacing it with what I asked for. Would not recommend unfortunately.

Nice flavours. Poor service.

By Kay L |

We ordered fish and chips, and a salmon dish for dinner on a Sunday evening. The restaurant wasn't busy. The food came and the plate the salmon arrived on was cold. The vegetables underneath the salmon were cold. We had to flag down another server because ours was nowhere to be seen. He took the plate back and the food returned slightly warmer. The salmon was hot but the plate itself was still cold and the vegetables luke warm. The taste was nice, although the salmon was a bit overcooked (maybe because they had to warm it up again and it was the tail end which is thin). The fish and chips were nice. Our server returned after the meal and took the plates away. She didn't ask us if we wanted a dessert but just brought the cheque. When I asked for the dessert menu she said" I didn't hear you ask for it" (we didn't ask for the cheque either but hey.) There were three desserts on the menu, one of which was unavailable, so a choice of two. $15 for a cheese cake, or some ice cream. I then asked to include a small tip on the total of the cheque and pay part cash, part card. Our server wanted to take my card away to take payment which I didn't like. She then put the amount through without the tip, so she didn't get one. We wouldn't go back unfortunately,

Cute Spot

By 880deniset |

Visited for dinner having stayed at the hotel in the past. Our waiter was very knowledgeable of the drinks offered and made superb recommendations that did not disappoint. Food was prepared to our liking with a little something for the vegan and the meat lovers.

Excellent in the evening, avoid in the morning - defrosted bread!

By fuzzyfelt |

As a guest in the hotel I had the pleasure and displeasure of drinking and eating at The Bookstore. There's a great selection of beers and liquors. Cocktails are expertly mixed. Evening food, such as the burger or the pastrami sandwich are of a good standard. Shame that the breakfast experience tips the rating to just average. My first breakfast, Two Eggs Any Style, was ok although the potatoes were over salted and had an usual taste of remnant dishes. Juices were on display but not offered. I've found the experience underwhelming and opted to take breakfast at Boka opposite for the next few days. I thought I'd give breakfast another so went back. Bad mistake. This time I ordered the "European Continental" for approx. $16. (See my pics) "Local charcuterie" turned out to be a few slices of salami. Cheese was two tiny slivers, one of which was almost entirely rind. The promised hard boiled egg was absent. The mini baguette appeared stale. The only saving grace was the yoghurt. No juices were offered again. The moment I saw the dish I asked the server for more cheese, a lone small triangle duly arrived. Then I discovered the stale baguette. I asked the server if it was fresh - he told me: "bread is delivered on Wednesday and frozen". Freezing is bad enough but I can only presume delivery and freezing doesn't happen on the same day. My complaints were well handled, but I still had to pay almost $5 for a cup of coffee.

I'll Pass

By Sandra G |

Menu items weren't very appetizing. Ended up grabbing a McDonalds chicken sandwich the second night of my stay instead of eating here again.

Fantastic Drinks, Cute Place!

By Elisa L |

Every time I have been here the drinks and the service have been fantastic. The bartenders are knowledgeable and creative, making the drinks unique and delicious. I was also impressed with the food - the Happy Hour menu is a great deal and the food will not disappoint!

Love soups - this surprised me

By Thomas H |

I'm staying at the Alexis Hotel, the restaurant is down stairs and handles in-room meal service. My first night, my dinner was awful. I had a turkey sandwich, fries and a cup of chili. Never mind the details. That surprised me...how much I did not enjoy it. I tried my luck again last night, had the brick chicken and tomato soup. I love soups, not tomato, but tried it anyway. IT WAS PHENOMENAL. ...then, I nearly licked the plate after eating the brick chicken. Goes to show, sometimes it's worth another try at a restaurant.

Pretty Good Breakfasts

By NJChisoxFan |

We had two breakfasts here while staying at the Alexis Hotel, where it is located. Strangely, the coffee was outstanding the first time but not as good the second time, which I assume has to do with the way it was prepared. The food was good, except that one time the steel cut oatmeal took forever to come out and then was so undercooked that it could not be eaten. But they were good about providing something else instead. Overall, a typically pleasant Kimpton experience.

Excellent Service

By Jameel A |

Our experience was fantastic. Kat noticed that my pregnant wife was coughing and immediately brought over some hot water with lemon. Although we had dinner plans in Fremont, we were quick to return to Kat's section at the Bookstore!

Wonderful squash dish!

By Beaniceguy |

I didn't want a heavy dinner, so the delightful waitress recommended a couple lighter options, one of which was a special puree of couscous and squash with more roasted squash on top. It was wonderfully delicious and just what I needed at the time. I also had room service duck, and even though I'm normally not into duck, it was tender and really tasty. Fabulous food and service!

If I lived in Seattle, this is where I'd be! Be sure to check out the homemade hot sauce!

By NieSam |

We recently stayed at the Alexis and were excited to be able to check out Chef Caprial Pence's restaurant. Having watched her cooking shows for years on PBS, I was eager to actually be able to try her food. I was also excited to physically see her there as celebrity chefs aren't always on premises. Our first meal was lunch. My husband had the Eggs Benedict which came with house cured Canadian bacon and an herbed hollandaise sauce. There were crispy potatoes on the side. He said everything was delicious. It looked like the eggs were only hours old - the yolks were so fresh that they resembled little golf balls sitting atop the whites. I had the Mediterranean pulled pork sandwich on a brioche roll. The bread was light and the sandwich also had a delicious romesco sauce, fried capers, and arugula. I got fries as my side and they were perfectly cooked, crisp on the outside with potato still on the inside. My only negative for the meal was that the catsup seemed really sweet. But, I added their homemade hot sauce to it and it was delicious. Our waiter was helpful at answering questions, and was also attentive throughout the meal. After playing tourist, we stopped in for Happy Hour. I was pleasantly surprised at the drink prices. My wine was $5 for a glass and my husband's Scotches were $7 and $8. The bartender was excellent and provided a sample so that we were sure we liked what we got. We ordered a large charcuterie plate which arrived quickly and had ample quantities of mortadella, two types of salami, lots of toasty baguette slices, grainy mustard and pickled red onions. Everything was great. After our last round of exploring, we had dinner. At the recommendation of the concierge, we each had the chuck burger and splurged getting it with a fried egg and home cured bacon. It was both decadent and delicious! The burger was on brioche and also had smoky onions and pickled veggie slices. I had fries with mine and my husband had a salad with his that was perfectly dressed. A great meal!

VERY Cozy, Comfortable Bar

A variety of very nice area's inside and outside - not a big room but like Library in a home ... Great choice of beverages and food from nibbles to more hearty dishes, All Day!

Nice breakfast on a dreary Sunday morning!

By VHTA |

We were walking by and decided to pop in for a coffee and ended up ordering an egg white scramble and ricotta pancakes. Both the food and coffee are very good. The service is attentive and professional. We can highly recommend this as a breakfast place.

Good place to eat if staying at Alexis

By Allen C |

I was staying at the Alexis so this was the most convenient and I went there for lunch and breakfast on my overnight business trip. The food was good, not great and the service was cordial but not up to the standards I had from the extraordinary service at the Alexis hotel (the restaurant is an extension of the lobby). I am not sure of the connection between the Bookstore and the Alexis but their staff were very different in their level of customer service. I felt special and hugely appreciated at the hotel, not so much at the restaurant.

Delicious

Great ambiance, delicious whisky sour, amazing seasonal squash entree. And a super nice wait staff. I would definitely eat here again.
