Met a friend at Bowen House (suggested by my 'in-the-know' niece) and loved it! Located in a restored historical home (one of the oldest in Dallas, built in 1874 in the 'folk Victorian' style) in Uptown, it is truly a unique place (read the plaque in the front patio on your way in...it's designated: Dallas Landmark, Registered Texas Historic Landmark, State Historic Marker Program). Cozy setting, super friendly waitstaff, beautiful bar, fun music mix, vintage furnishings and a good happy hour (M-F, 4-7pm...French 75 for $5 anyone?)...all-in-all, a great place for a cocktail and a conversation. Only food we tried were the french fries and we were not disappointed. Warning: parking is challenging in this area, so come prepared and allow time for finding a spot and a probable short-ish walk.

Beautiful looking bar. Great cocktail selection. Started with the Negroni, Espresso Martini & red wine. Well made cocktails all made at exactly the same time. Found a table away from the bar (it had been full up until then). The brown Mary cocktail which sounded great was not available. Took the waitress a while to let us know that. I think they were a little short staffed. She did seem to be running all over. The food looked great. We just had the warm olives which were very nice. Worth a visit.

Bartenders are very nice. They explained the history of the landmark. A chill bar to relax & talk with friends. Will definitely go back next time I'm in Dallas.

Another great addition to the Dallas cocktail and bar scene. Creative cocktails warm and friendly bartenders and some killer deviled eggs! Will I Go Back? Yes!! Hit this place up Cozy inside and great porch to people watch

Attending a wedding in Dallas and wandered in for a drink - stayed a few hours. Every drink we ordered was handcrafted and customized to our liking. If we asked for a simple Gin and Tonic the bartender (Michael) offered a hand crafted derivation that was delicious . This continued for multiple rounds each one punctuated by ingredients or mixers made onsite. After a few rounds - Michael followed up with some small plate recommendations ( I highly recommend the Tuna Tacos). All in all a wonderful experience,

Nice place to enjoy for lunch, dinner or late night. Reservations are recommended as they tend to be busy. The food is very good and cocktails are okay but they will make cocktails to your desire. Nicevfor dating, special romance and first dates. Very nice atmosphere! Prices average 9.00 a cocktail and 16-20 per entree. ENJOY!

We came here early around 4:30pm on a Saturday so we could have a relaxing dinner and drinks before going to a 7pm show at Winspear. They have great classic cocktails and some wine selections for $5 during happy hour (4-7pm). The ambiance is really lovely since it's in an old house... very unique. The food was very good, not over-portioned and at a good price. The service was a bit slow once it got busy around 5:30/6, like they didn't have quite enough staff. But, it isn't a big restaurant. Even still, we would definitely go back!

I stopped in Thursday night and loved this place! They had live music going on; I almost didn't recognize it as a bar/restaurant. It's in a charming historical house. The staff was extremely knowledgable. I am not as familiar with craft cocktails but the bartenders didn't make me feel dumb about it. I order a house cocktail from a guy named Trent called The Foreign Julep. They gave us complimentary cornbread before my food came out. Would definitely go again.

Stopped in to check the place out and loved it. Daryl the bartender is an artist. We had a few drinks with their infused liquor...very nice and refreshing. We went back the next day to try some different drinks and the bar food. I had talapia and blue cheese grits...what a delight. The food is surprisingly cheap and really good. The staff made us feel welcome and totally took care of us. We'll be going back for sure.

I've been to Bowen House three times. Once with my business team ana a couple of times with different small groups. Bowen emphasizes Prohibition specialties in drink and decor. The drinks are creative and different but recognizable. The furniture is very nice with great seating at the bar and in the corners and around the walls. This is a compact place. There is no sign, so make sure you know the address. Its an historic green wood frame building off Boll St. behind S&D Oyster off of McKinney. I hope to make this my go-to bar.

Bowen House is one of my favorite bars in Dallas! It was once a small house now converted so it’s different from other bars and makes for a great atmosphere. The fire is so nice when it’s cold! Favorite drink here is a French 75. Such a hidden gem in Dallas!

My wife and I stopped by the Bowen House for drinks before dinner at another restaurant in Uptown. It was our first time and we lamented that we had never tried it before. We liked the decor and feel of the place, the music they were playing (the volume could have been a little lower) and the staff. We sat at the bar and had wonderful cocktails - two apiece. We are planning to return soon and try the food.

This is an update to my previous review. This is now our favorite place to go in Uptown. The bartenders are fantastic, real artists. Just watching them craft your drink is an experience, even better to taste their creation they custom make each time. We've gone back many times.

What a great spot. Very intimate, low lighting, with the 10 seat bar the focal point of the room. Although he told me, I can't recall the excellent bartender's name (shaved head), but he was great. This is not a pub! These guys specialize in pre-prohibition style cocktails like Sazerac and Old Fashioned. They are some of my favorite drinks that I never order because no one can make them properly. They were perfect. I also had the best Moscow Mule in town there. Also had some terrific small plates. Really enjoyed and will return soon.

What an amazing place. The atmosphere is really, really great. We sat in the coveted “back room” where the bartender wouldn’t/couldn’t conform to the set cocktail menu and he served us amazing cocktail creations! The filet (medium rare) is probably one of the top 5 steaks I’ve ever had.

Bowen House is a great place for drinks/cocktails... It was very busy; however, we were lucky to find a place to sit after getting a drink at the bar... The bar itself is very unique and has a speakeasy feel... The drinks did not disappoint as they were top notch to be expected... The only downfall, is the wait to get a drink is very (very) long... I completely understand that great drinks take a while to make, however, there were so many people standing at the bar waiting that I felt like it became uncomfortable for the people sitting at the bar because they were becoming crowded... The 4 bartenders were working hard, but were not even close to being able to keep up with drink orders rolling in... After we found a seat, a waitress did come buy, and we ordered another round of drinks... That drink order took a very long time as well... Overall , the bar was cool, the staff was friendly and the drinks were amazing.... I would definitely recommend this place for a great drink... Just don't expect fast drink orders during peak hours...

Food is fabulous ! Also great service and drinks located in a charming old home. Best Caesar Salad in Dallas ! Reservations are a must.

We celebrated a friend’s promotion out front and in the private back room. The staff was very kind and patient and really strived for a nice experience which I honestly wasn’t expecting in a crowded popular place that could very well be pretentious and snobby. Everyone in our party really enjoyed all the cocktails we tried and the ambience. In the back room you can just tell the bartender what spirits or flavors you enjoy and they put unique creations together. Our bartender Trenton was awesome and we loved every drink and moment. The cocktails weren’t more expensive than other places and the experience was worth it. I’ll go back, bring friends, tell friends.

Came here on a Sunday afternoon and it was surprisingly quiet. The happy hour menu was delightful and the French 75 comes with my highest recommendations! Wait-staff were pleasant and the atmosphere very nice. I would absolutely visit again.

KW and I love cocktails, and he found this 'hidden' gem. The space is beautiful and Daniel is the man - he was a great bartender. We were well looked after, we had 2 rye cocktails, of which I don't remember the names, but one was a perfect manhattan. Sitting at the bar and watching them fire up wood to add the smoke to a cocktail and so on, you know you're in a place that has a true passion for everything they do. We ordered the charcuterie & cheese board. One of the few places that actually serves the cheese at room temperature!!!! Well done, so obvious, not so much practiced. If you go off this recommendation send Daniel our regards. We will be back!

Found on the app on bar selection. This I a great speakeasy! Craft cocktails and small appetizer. Get the Tina tar tar. Can't miss on any cocktail you want.

We stumbled upon the Bowen House, a charming 1870's house with a restaurant in it, on the evening of St. Patrick's Day. Weary travelers, we were looking to get away from green beer and drunken revelers, and this was the perfect place. They specialize in prohibition era cocktails. I had the Boulevardier--yum! My husband had one of the many local brews they serve--also yum. My sea bass with mushrooms was delicious, if a bit on the small side. My husband had the corned beef sandwich which was not the normal red corned beef, but a succulent corned brisket served with freshly made ( warm) potato chips. The only two flaws were that the dinner took forever to arrive, Attentive waitstaff came and went, but the food took 40 minutes to arrive and the restaurant was not crowded. Hmmmm...The other flaw was that we asked for side salads ( not on the menu) and the chef accommodated us, but the salads were arugula which was yellowing. No! We would go back again, but we might hope that the service would be a little faster next time. The patio is lovely!

My husband and I were looking for a bar in the uptown area, so I went on Tripadvisor and this place came up with good reviews. Well I knew right where this was since it is right behind S & D Oyster. The last time I had gone by this old house it was vacant. Well they turned it into a bar and a pretty good one at that. It has a very eclectic decor inside. The wait staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the different cocktails. They have infused liquors that they infuse there. But I will tell you what, I had a French Kiss cocktail that was to die for. They do have food, but we did not eat there. Just remember order a French Kiss.

First of all, Bowen House is located in a nice area in an old house that has a great ambiance. We ate in the back room which wasn’t as busy as the front. We ordered a few dishes from the happy hour to split and everything was delicious. The cocktail menu was great, but if you don’t see something you like they will be glad to suggest something else. Can’t wait to go again!

We stopped in Bowen House for afternoon cocktails when we were in the area and were impressed with how gorgeous it was. It was a little pricey but not outrageous, the staff were really great and the beer/wine/cocktail list was nice. I would defiantly go back and would recommend others to try it as well.

First time at Bowen House. Designer cocktails are great. Wine list could have been more robust- only 5 Red wine choices. The filet is outstanding & fries are incredible. No TVs which is why 4 stars. Ambience is good. Small bar in back - we didn’t know about until we were leaving.

An absolutely charming restaurant in Dallas. The building itself has been around since the 1870s. The historical architecture has been preserved. The decor included a modern appeal with an eclectic comfortable ambience. The staff was extremely attentive and gave excellent service. The food was good, The cocktails were also quite good. The escargot is some of the best I’ve ever had. The value proposition is excellent as the pricing is well below what I would consider appropriate for this level of service and food.

My sweet Bowen, where do I begin? The Ambiance? The magical cocktails? The tender filet? The awesome staff? It's all good. Food included, the filet is supreme. Pasha is warm and welcoming. Anytime is a good time to visit, check it out!

The family that runs this place is outstanding....no name-dropping was even allowed--great happy hour but honestly, the full menu is priced well, so outside of taking a no-brainer Old Fashioned, and really enjoying the chickensalad w butter crackers, the fact is this place has a grand dinner menu that hits upscale. At the end of the day, the ambiance, the servers, and being in such a historic place...You'd be stupid not to drop in for a cocktail and a small bite.

This historic home is comfortable and beautiful to look at and offers artisanal, quality drinks. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable, even creating new drinks.

Totally awesome and unique! A definite place to go if you have never been. Happy hours are actually fun to be at for singles and small groups. I've been 8 times over 2 months and never had a bad experience (I never give a review after one visit like others do). The staff is very friendly and want you to enjoy your time there. Go Sunday-Wed for a fun evening or happy hour after work. Although Thurs-Fri-Sat is often packed, you can still get in. And use the valet (across the street or on the East side of Bowen House). Want to know more details.... read on! ATMOSPHERE Remember Bowen House a historical landmark - and that's the charm. It's not like any other place around... (1) indoor decor is 'old Dallas' meets cool bar set up. It's warm, inviting and festive; (2) outside seating on cozy wooden porch - and the bench swing is always taken; (3) the entire front yard is a remodeled stone patio with a low iron fence. Three different environments that flow together in one place... and it's charming. Bowen House has tables and chairs all over - and even the bar stools are padded and comfortable. Duh!! They want you to stay and have fun! It's a place of lounge and leisure. We all know there are different reasons to visit bars. Some people who are friendly and fun go to meet people... and others who want a private drink with their date or friends. I've seen a good mix of both. There are intimate candle lit tables for 2 by the windows and other tables you can pull together for a friendly group. DRINKS & SERVICE Bowen House is a place where you go to chill and chat over some very unique drinks. Sure you can have "basic bar drinks", but their claim to fame is found within their skilled mixologists (much more than a bartender). Tell them what you normally drink and ask for a suggestion. They have unique drinks - and might make up a new one just for you! Yesterday someone in a group of 6 asked for something similar to a cosmo... and the end result looked so good I asked for one too. 30 min later we are all trying new drinks and comparing who's was best. Made 6 new friends and had a blast. (Try the "Vodka No Name" or the Elizabeth Taylor", my top 2 favorites so far.) Of course there is no "drink menu".... and do you really need one?!? Most people know what they like to drink... right? The idea is to TALK to people and make new friends. Discuss your drink with your mixologist, get to know them... and let them know you. Be adventurous! Look around and ask others what they are having, or ask if they have ever had the drink you are having. It's a great icebreaker... make a new friend, buy them a drink... and HAVE FUN! HINTS-N-TIPS If you are at a table or outside, yes, the staff will serve you and you will be pleased. However, if you are impatient or want immediate service on a busy night... just go to the bar, place your order and tell them where you are sitting. They will take good care of you all night. Remember - it's a fun place, be part of the fun. Bowen House is a blast and a place you can easily fall in love with... I did. PS: Don't be swayed by cynical comments from people who complain about everything and are no fun at a party. (LOL... you know the type.)

We wondered in on a Saturday afternoon to find this very cool bar, as others might mention it is a historic house converted into a cool space to enjoy a cocktail. The bar staff was great and the day we visited we shared with the owner and staff they were just mentioned by the national press for their drinks. We plan to visit again very soon.

Very interesting speakeasy! Located in a historic home in uptown Dallas. Pretty good menu of craft cocktails and local beers. Some bar bites. Friendly staff.

Stopped here based off the reviews and bring regulars at the gingerman down the street we gave it a shot. What a great spot. Bartenders that know there stuff, had a pretzel and steak tartare with our drinks. The tartare rivals any in the city. Nice chunks, great sauce and the duck toast takes it to a whole new level.
Amazing Signature Cocktails and Apps!
Pascha the Owner came out to great us. His grandmothers recipe is the Chicken salad recipe and might be the best I have ever had. The mixology of house created cocktails with a wide variety of appetizers and dinners is a remarkable find at this house converted into Bar/Restaurant. The atmosphere is inviting and warm. Perfect for dates or friends! My wife and I had amazing food(homemade chips and truffle oil also chicken salad) along with creative drinks. A night spent her will not be a disappointment. The music varies from classic rock to hip indie to punk to current pop. Do not miss Bowen House.
