Flies Everywhere

By 121voyageur |

"How you do anything is how you do everything." This quote can be found in Will Guidara's book, "Unreasonable Hospitality," about his rise to operating the number one restaurant in the world. The basic principle is to give guests more than they expect. We certainly got more than we expected, but in the worst way possible. We visited here from the Bay Area and were seated at an inside corner table that was inundated with flies. They were on the windows, the food, and us. The poor waiter spent half our meal swatting them with anything he could, killing two with his bare hand. He mentioned that they hadn't had time to kill them before the shift, meaning this is a common problem. It's clear they are proliferating within the restaurant somewhere. It wasn't the waiter's fault, but at some point one would have expected to be moved, or at the least had something offered as compensation. Nothing was. When one of us mentioned the issue to the manager on the way out in hopes they wouldn't seat another guest there later, all we got was, "Thanks for letting us know." Had I not been on vacation and enjoying company with family, I think this would rank as the worst meal experience I've ever had. It seems like an easily solvable problem, and yet no one seemed concerned. If there are that many flies in the dining area, consider what's behind the curtain. I hope this restaurant holds itself to a much higher standard going forward. We certainly won't be back.

Just go. Get the raclette. Enjoy!

By Breanna P |

Listen, this is one of the best restaurants you will eat at. Everything is top notch--food, decor, service. Do yourself a favor and order the Raclette as an appetizer. It's phenomenal. The burger and the oysters are great entrees, but so is everything else near as I can tell.

Paris comes to the Pearl

The food is delicious! There are actual French partners running the restaurant. Service is friendly and professional. The menu is so well written that there a many things that call you back to Mon Chou Chou to try.

Don’t Recommend

By elysiansoul |

I’m not sure which was the greater disappointment; excessively unprofessional staff or our food. Our server was the only saving grace among this utterly disappointing night out. I could elaborate on the hostess, my lovely view of just the small table and 2 walls for two hours, or our ill-prepped food, but I’ll spare you the grievances. Just find something else. Out of all our years traveling and dining, this one is on the rare blacklist, with many regrets behind that reservation. Run, don’t walk.

Somewhat slow service, but very good food

By fbglove |

Very good dinner... raw oysters, escargot, onion soup, lobster bisque, braised beef cheeks, and duck confit. Nice atmosphere. Somewhat slow service.

Like being in Paris

By Richard O |

Food prepared with attention to detail and focused on fresh and high quality products. Presentation and service is outstanding and the chef from the Emma Hotel was eating there that evening so you know it is a "must" when in San Antonio

Best restaurant in San Antonio

By jimbalaya1 |

In my opinion this is the best restaurant in San Antonio. It’s owned by 3 Frenchmen and one is the chef. Totally authentic French food of the highest quality! Fantastic wine list and deserts. Escargot, lobster bisque, coquilles St. Jacques-so delicious. Service is impeccable too.

Yes, yes,yes!!

By Cardete1 |

Delicious and authentic,REAL French food What a great brunch !! Decor , service , ambience music, service and the most important food was delicious !! Can’t wait to go back to San Antonio to have an other delicious meal at Mon Chou Chou !! Bravo chef!

Actually not very good.

By TravelerTrecker |

We had dinner at this restaurant which is just a few steps from The Emma Hotel at the Pearl. Food is average. It is not delicate. The cream Brule is really bad. Service is very poor. Waitresses are not interested in helping. They are not trained on how to provide service and on how to serve the food on the table. Food was cold. Furthermore, it is expensive. Quality is very poor.

Sadly disappointed vegetarian & friends..

By Kat F |

For the first time in many years, I have to write a negative review. I really try to avoid doing it, but.. Ok, so Mon Chou Chou has great reviews, and I have to admit, waiting at the bar for my friends and chatting with bar crew was very enjoyable. Tequila selection not bad for a french restaurant either. We enjoyed the appetizers too. But here is where we have a bit of an issue. So I'm vegetarian. Oh sure, they have 1-2 dishes for me, but I noticed 2 side items, a baked Mac & Cheese and a Broccoli & Garlic side. I chatted with our server and asked - "You know, you have these 2 sides here, and I wonder, in such a chef driven restaurant, maybe they could mix the broccoli in the Mac & Cheese and heat it?" He looked at me and said, "They really don't do anything special like that." I had to ask him to please ask. He came back a bit later and said, "I knew they wouldn't, they said they would just have to give you the two dishes". I looked at my friend and we both agreed we would finish our drinks and go somewhere else and asked for the check. I also asked to speak with a manager. The whole time, never being upset an I for sure did NOT blame the server. The manager came over and was nice enough. I explained the situation and why we were very disappointed that they could not do something so simple (I wasn't asking for the moon, I mean, mix a couple of sides?) She said, "As a Chef-driven restaurant we just can't do specials like that, I'm sorry." I said, "Sorry, but you are not chef-driven, you are cook-driven, and that is why you can't do it. I thought such a fancy restaurant with a long following and you could not do a simple thing like this?" Well, the check came, I still tipped of course. No discount either. Such a very disappointing visit of a restaurant that is focused on one thing - turn those tables as quickly as you can and make more profit, definitely NOT about creating food outside of the ordinary menu. We left. We walked a few steps across the walkway and .. (to be continued in my review of the Boiler House at Pearl)

Great French vibes

By SrgnFsh |

I would have given this restaurant 5 stars if they only had had a pastis for aperitif (they didn't and barely knew what it was). Everything else was great though and the escargots and beef cheek were wonderful.

I love their French Onion Soup

By Poodlemom21 |

I confess to having lunch at Mon Chou Chou about 10 times in the past 2 weeks. I’m obsessed with their French Onion Soup. The wine is fine and coffee latte too. I usually sit in a small 4 table nook. It’s a good people watching restaurant. Everything else I ordered was good, but not enough the wonderful bowl of soup. Desserts are great too.

Wonderful French Restaurant

By mryan362 |

This is a great French restaurant. They have an extensive menu with so many items that sounded wonderful. We had the most amazing lunch. We opted for shareables. We had the escargot (yummy, right amount of garlic), the charcuterie platter and added three cheeses. My husband added the pork special of the day and was delighted with it. We munched away while drinking champagne. Food was excellent as was the service and atmosphere. All the while we listened to french love songs and other classics. We are just sorry we found it on our last day in San Antonio or we would have gone back for dinner.

Pure heaven - takes one right back to Paris

By NancyAO |

This is a true Paris brasserie in TX. The wait staff is amazing. We were having a bit of a complicated day and they were able to accommodate our needs on the fly with grace and care. Add the fact that the food is incredible I know we will be back even if it is a 4 hour drive. Started with champagne and escargot - delicious. Then I added a salad nicoise. It was a wonderful lunch and made the day that much better. Thank you Mon Chou Chou!

Best of the best in San Antonio!

By Doug H |

f I could give the food and service at brasserie Mon Chou Chou 10 stars I would! Each dish was better than the one before it starting with appetizers, the main course and desert... Since they say a picture is worth 1,000 words, consider this to be at least a 10,000 word review! Our server was terrific and obviously took pride in really knowing every aspect of every dish on the menu... And she has a great sense of humor too! It is clear Chef Daniel is a master of his craft! Be sure too check out all the photos and the menu... There are no bad choices and even their custom cocktails are something truly special!

ONE OF THE BEST IN TOWN

By Mada A |

The food is excellent , best steak au poivre since I left New York ! bread is amazing, salads are superb so are the desserts.. only below par were the side dishes, carrots were a bit mushy and bland , ONE DISSAPPOINTMENT WERE THE FRIES.. this has to get corrected before my next trip ;-) soon!! p.s. to the negative review: get a grip! you do need reservations specially for a new restaurant with social distancing, very rude to leave one star when you haven't tried the food, I made my reservations weeks ahead of time

Excellent food and experience

By TRAVELandTANLINES |

My friend and I had an enjoyable brunch experience. The quiche (seasonal) was delicious, and my friend loved the French toast. Drinks (even their mocktails!) and service were great. The restaurant is located in The Pearl so there is a lot to walk to and see in the surrounding area. Definitely make a reservation.

a plate of disappointment

By duncmon |

We were there with a fairly large group - so keep that in mind - BUT: Our server started out fine. Lots of information about the specials for the evening, gave information about "what's good tonite?" and other questions. Was even patient with some of the stupid jokes we made, and kept our drinks filled. However, it took a long time for our entrees to arrive. My fries/frites were warm, but many other fries were cold, or "ice cold' as one person stated. My steak was not medium well - as requested, but was quite rare. Worse - there was a huge piece of gristle running through it making much of my steak un-cuttable (forget about chewing it). One of my colleagues had the same issue. I know - "why didn't you say something?" - because after our food was delivered, our server was nowhere to be found. Never once checked back with us until it was time to ask about dessert. To the restaurant managers, I know - why did I give a thumbs up on your credit card reader? Because your server was standing right over my shoulder as I entered my information. Overall, as one of my colleagues stated, this trip was a big plate of disappointment.

Lovely French restaurant

By mjernigan2 |

Wonderful anniversary dinner at this delicious restaurant. First time visit, and our waitress, Mitzi, was extremely knowledgeable and answered all our questions. We started with an incredible appetizer, the Sandwich au Fromage Raclette. The Filet melted in your mouth, and the Branzino was delicious. We ended with a fabulous Creme Brûlée. We will definitely be back on our next visit to San Antonio.

Mon Chou Chou at the Pearl

By mbartiko |

Great food - good service. Had the bread with warm cheese appetizer and steak and fries as mains. The berry ice cream and sorbet for dessert - really good. All was perfectly prepared and service was very good.

Unable to maintain quality and service.

By J S |

We have been going to Chou Chou for more than 3 years. In the last three months, the food now takes a minimum of 45 minutes to arrive, after your order and when the restaurant is practically empty. The preparation of the eggs have come out raw, two separate visits. The other items are either very heavily salted or had no seasoning. I hoped it was only a decline in the kitchen but the service staff also is developing the attitude you should be happy just sitting there. We are sad this establishment has not been able to maintain quality and service. For locals, it’s now, just another tourist trap now.

Great Experience

By JennyP1 |

The staff was friendly and made great suggestions. The food was delicious. Would definitely go back.

Enjoyable lunch

By Boo913 |

My friends and I happened on this very nice restaurant while visiting the area. I ordered the duck breast for entree and we shared escargot for appetizer. It was all very delicious and waitress was very accommodating, attentive and polite! Delightful lunch!

French fun in San Antonio

By S S |

Love Brasserie Mon Chou Chou! Authentic and excellent French food, fantastic service and great ambience. Interior seating can be boisterous and fun. Outdoor seating is quieter, and always protected from the elements. A great place to people watch.

Lyon in San Antonio

By Claiborne G |

My wife and I had lunch at this new (open about 3 months) brassiere in the Pearl area yesterday. A definite French emphasis with great results. My wife had the french onion soup, which was very good but needed a bit more broth. I had the salade lyonnaise, which would have stood up well to anything available in a Lyon brasserie. All of the ingredients came together perfectly. We shared the Sandwich au Fromage Raclette: a large halved baguette, with great cheese applied at the table and plenty of cornichons. Sharing was great idea, and it was delicious, especially the bread and bayonne ham. A nice bottle of wine, but ask for the wine list for more choices. Service very friendly and attentive. Our first trip and we are looking forward to having dinner there with friends in the hopefully near future.

Extraordinary and delicious restaurant in San Antonio. I consider it within my top 10 in Texas.

By Andres G |

Exceptional restaurant in San Antonio Extraordinary and delicious dishes with top-notch quality Sophisticated yet elegant atmosphere Outstanding service from the staff, with expert recommendations Great wine selection on the menu One of my favorite restaurants in San Antonio, ideal for: - Romantic dates - Nights out with friends - Family meals Highly recommended

Excellent addition to the Pearl district

By Gabriel H |

This was our first visit to this restaurant. Located next door to Hotel Emma, it is easy to reach and easy to find a ride back home. The interior is very much like a typical Parisian brasserie. The dining are is spacious, well lit, and the view outside is very nice. Our server was prompt, efficient and helpful. The menu is fairly generous, with a variety of traditional French appetizers, mains and desserts. The wine list is very good and covers all areas of French viticulture. Mon Chou Chou offers around 15 wines by the glass and a much larger number of wines by the bottle. The wines are well priced, as are the menu items. We enjoyed the flavors that strongly reminded us of our meals in France. The Mushroom tart was exquisite! The rabbit with polenta was creamy, tender and flavorful. The Veal chop was perfectly cooked, tender and juicy. The Floating island was a perfect replica of our souvenirs from Paris and Black Cherry Clafoutis was delicious. Welcome to San Antonio

Delicious meal and excellent service!

By ccb80 |

We dined here recently and had a delicious meal! The service was exemplary and they have a great wine list. We started with fresh oysters, then the best salad ever! We each had a steak [cooked perfectly] with their delicious frites. Dessert did not disappoint, either!

Food was Meh; Chairs are super uncomfortable

By Nina42 |

The service was great, I have dietary restrictions therefore had the Salmon without bernaise sauce. I asked fro the Salmon to be well done but it was very dry I’ve also the same at pappadeux and it was moist and delicious so I was sorely disappointed. The bread was great tasting. The chairs are super hard and uncomfortable for those folks who have back issues and such.

Mais Qui!

By Jensoid |

As soon as we entered, we were confronted with a wide open bar, brass fittings and a while tiled floor. It transformed me to the food halls of Harrods in Knightsbridge. Clean, fresh and inviting. Wonderful smells of the evening to come. We were early for our reservations and had added a person to our original two top. This was not a problem for them and we were seated right away. I would imagine this may not be usual, since the restaurant was filled to capacity shortly after our arrival. I have been on a Jacques Pepin kick recently, cooking his wonderful recipes from his Heart and Soul in the Kitchen cookbook. We also happened to be staying at Hotel Emma next door for a long weekend. We were greeted by a couple of servers and off we went. Our server outlined some items on the menu being newbies and we immediately choose the Escargot de Bourgogne a L'Ancienne and Raclette w/Bayonne Ham. The "Cheese Wedge" was a hard recommendation from a client of mine, so that was a no brainer. Escargot were served traditionally with butter, butter and parsley garlic butter. Each one had their own little hot tub of melted butter. So, if you don't like butter, I would pass on this. This was a quintessential French dish. Delicious. It only got better when the "Cheese Wedge" arrived and hot melty cheese was scrapped off of the wedge on onto a baguette with Bayonne Ham table side. Not a big fan of side table shenanigans, but this was done with such a plomb and skill, it added to the whole experience. Result... Well, we refrained from ordering it again on this visit. Gooey. cheesy, crunchy and a wonderful saltiness the ham provides. Stunning and has to be one of my all time favorite appetizers. Entree's were selected and I choose the Confit De Canard au Poivre Vert, Puree De Pomme De Terre and Suzie a steak. Duck isn't something that a lot of American's eat, although being an immigrant from England, it is something we ate often in my home country. If you are familiar with this dish, you will find Mon Chou Chou's excellent rendition sending you back in time to the last time you may have found yourself in France. It did for me. Again deliciously prepared and executed. Deep rich flavors of a well seasoned prepared entree. Suzie finally got a steak that was cooked correctly to temperature and simply presented. As it should be. There are many appetizers, deserts and sides that we need to enjoy. I might have to go as far as to say, we should dine here every time we find ourselves in San Antonio. Pro Tip, get a reservation. The weekends are pretty booked solid a ways out. After you finish here, you may want to get a nightcap next door at Hotel Emma in their lobby bar.

NICE PLACE BUT VERY EXPENSIVE

By MES1948 |

Interesting French restaurant in the Pearl district. the entire area is high end and this is no exception. the menu was interesting and the food was very good but very expensive. Prepare to spend a lot when visiting.this place.

Stunning, flavourful and truly European

By Jasleenks |

Stunning meal. I had the cous cous and added salmon. Complex and rich flavours with a lovely warming kick of spices. Excellent service too.

Darling Bistro in Pearl Area

By Deb B |

This wonderful restaurant is like being at a French bistro. We went to just have cocktails outside, and the experience was amazing. Our server Braden knew the menu inside and out, and he was so effusive about everything. When we told him it was my birthday, he brought out a complimentary fabulous dessert. We can’t wait to go back and have an entire meal. And we will ask for Braden as he was a great enhancement to the experience.

Best ever!!

By Tldaniels |

While visiting San Antonio we had dinner one night here and loved everything about this place. Our server Reynaldo was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and made very good recommendations. Our party of 4 enjoyed every bite from beginning with escargot, ending with desserts and everything in between. The only complaint I have is that we would like to go back for dinner while we are in town but there are no other tables available this week during dinner time.

Will Return

By Jeff B |

Went here for dinner upon recommendation, and it did not disappoint. Vibe, service, and quality hit on all marks. Being a world traveller with plenty of experience in the restaurant and service scene, this restaurant deserves a return visit. Bravo.

Excellent experience. Highly recommended.

By mjk44 |

Excellent restaurant. Tartar, lobster and melba were delicious; the chef is from France so the food is authentic. Our waiter Marc was great. We celebrated our daughter's birthday yesterday and the restaurant and staff really elevated the birthday celebration.

Wonderful experience for foodies

By LikesGoodMeals |

We are new to San Antonio and this restaurant was recommended. We are so happy we tried it out. Our waiter's name was Antonio and he was a true professional. He brought everything at the right time without rushing us between courses. We began our meal with oysters from PEI. They were exquisite. We had Duck Confit and Cous-Cous - both were outstanding. Of course we had to have Profiteroles for dessert!

Don’t bother...

By Juan Rodriguez |

Empty place a few moments ago and did not seat us because we “did not have a reservation”. Customer service just made you lose a potential regular customer. I will never try this restaurant in the future. New places in times of pandemic must understand that customer satisfaction is the key... these folks clearly dont get it. Good luck guys!

Wonderful French restaurant in the Pearl area

By Otto W |

We ate at Mon Chou Chou for the first time. We really enjoyed it. One of the owners was on site even mid-afternoon checking to make sure patrons were happy and sharing the story of the restaurant. We had the crab dip (large enough to share with 3 other people), the endive salad, the lobster bisque and the veal cordon bleu. Every dish was great. The decor is nice and service is most friendly. We sat at a table for two in the main area. I would avoid one of those in the future. I got bumped at least 4 times, by staff and other patrons. I find that most annoying and will try to get a table in the back room next time.

Diner with friend

By zenabee |

Highly anticipated diner with friend that always brags about this place. Now I know why. I spend a lot of time in France I have to admit food here is as delicious and authentic outside of France. Service is impeccable and very personable. Enjoy!!!

Excellent French restaurant!

By WTexTraveler |

Brasserie Mon Chou Chou is an excellent French restaurant. Service was great and food was fabulous. My wife and another lady in our group ordered the raclette and it was excellent--it's a large plate. I had the best duck I've had since France. My wife had a peach melba for dessert and I had creme brulee, which was as good as any I've had anywhere. Very convenient to Hotel Emma.

Excellent place !! Will be back

By JG |

Excellent restaurant. Good french atmosphere and GREAT service. One of the best serviced places in San Antonio. The food was great. The obliged french onion soup. And goat cheese salad. Followed by a shared Tartare which was awesome. And the escargots that were delicious. Then shared a Duck and Lamb. Ended with a creme brûlée. Nice family dinner. Be sure to make a reservation days in advance !! Always a full place.

Going to Paris without leaving Texas

By FiveDivers |

I have been to France a dozen times and this is as close to a French Brasserie as you can get. We have been twice in the last couple of weeks. Great food. Impeccable service. Great prices. Make reservations in advance. Must have the raclette.

San Antonio now has a fine French eatery.

By OberstA |

A fine French menu, served in a handsome setting. We had two meals there recently. Both excellent. Try the chicken, the veal, the lobster bisque, the salads, and the fine bread with French butter.

Wonderful service , food and drinks

By c0astert |

Stopped in for a late bite on Friday night. We were quickly seated and served a wonderful meal. The service was excellent with great knowledge of the food and drinks.

Fabulous food!

By Margaret A |

After doing the River walk and coming back to The Pearl area, our Uber driver highly recommended this restaurant. So happy we took his advice! One of the best lunches I have ever had. All staff were extremely professional, attentive and friendly.

Good French restaurant

By Rachel D |

Great quality food with good selection. Good atmosphere both inside and outside in the Pearl area. Service was just as good as the food also

Awesome food, and staff saved me from creepy men!

By Mandy R |

TLDR: The food is delicious, and the staff rescued me from two uncomfortable men without putting me in the middle of it, then comp'd one of my drinks. I will ALWAYS recommend this place. I stopped by in November after just moving here. I was by myself and just wanted a glass of wine and something light. I intentionally chose the corner end of the bar by the glassware because I didn't want company. Before I even ordered a drink, two drunk men came over and started talking to me. I was polite, but did not encourage them. They didn't get the hint. Then they started to arm wrestle beside me, demonstrating to me how to do it (literally the most absurdly predictable attempt at machismo).. From the other side of the bar, the bartender came over and told them to stop. They were risking breaking the glassware. Even when one said "I live by here, I'm here all the time", like he had clout. The bartender wanted none of it, and made them stop. The guys got mad. The manager and other bartender came out, the guys complained, the bartender didn't care and the other two had his back. The bartender then quietly said "I didn't care, it's just that they immediately flanked her and I wasn't okay with that", or something to that effect, referring to me. Women will understand the position I was in. In most cases, I feel like the bartender asks you flat out "are they bothering you", and the men stare at you until you shrug and say no. He didn't do that, didn't put me in the middle of it. He just recognized the situation and handled it. The manager and female bartender were talking about how to address it with me, and she and I locked eyes and with my eyes I confirmed what the other bartender said and told her it was okay. She conveyed this to the manager and said "we just had a full conversation with our eyes" when he was confused. It was an endearing moment. The manager actually stayed by my seat and when I got up to use the restroom, said he'd watch my drink. I got oysters and the roasted bone marrow. It was really, really good. When I eventually checked out, they'd taken my wine off my tab. I just can't express how meaningful this experience was, as a woman by herself. I went over to the original bartender when I was leaving to thank him. I will honestly never forget that, because it was so thoughtful and really surprising that he'd even noticed what happened on the other side of a full bar. I know that was really long, I just feel a lot of gratitude.

Average food and atmosphere

By JoGoAustin |

This was recommended to us as an upscale restaurant for our couples getaway weekend. We found it far less than what we expected. The service by the hostess was less than welcoming. The inside restaurant is very loud. Acoustics are not good for any quiet conversation. Too crowded which felt like there was always activity going on right next to our table. The food was average at best. We had the lamb and the duck - one of the most expensive items on the menu. It was done per the chef's recommendations and was very tough. We rarely complain at restaurants, but this was one circumstance that we felt compelled.

A must in San Antonio

By Susan S |

You MUST visit this restaurant! In town for business and came here 2 of the 3 nights. Thank you Shelby Kane you this recommendation. The interior was beautiful with the penny tile floors. The wait staff was amazing both times and were so helpful and accommodating. This restaurant is in the Pearl district. Now the food. When you take the first bit of (the soup, salad pasta and even the raclette's you will stop, and be in as of the wonderful deep flavors. Words cannot express this place. You will not be disappointed.

Fabulous

By Mary C |

Had the Branzino with a baguette. Had a brown butter caper sauce. The green beans were cooked perfectly and I mean perfectly. The potatoes were the center of the potato and tasted different than fries very good. The butter served with the baguette makes it. Love this restaurant. The fish was $40 the baguette was seven dollars. It was worth every penny.

22nd Anniversary Celebration!

By ConciergeJoan LCD |

Outstanding, and authentic! This is the closest restaurant to France :) Everything from decor, architecture, clothing, and amazing food. Mark was our waiter, I loved his demeanor. He gave his opinion and highlights. We had 2 complimentary glasses of champagne. We started with the raclette. This is not only a show but perfect starter. The texture of the cheese and softness of bread- wow! We ordered the duck and branzino. Perfectly cooked for both. We didn't feel it was too large ( or too small). My main love was the sauces- EVERY SAUCE was over-the-top. The sauce for the Branzino was very flavorful but light. The sauce for the duck was rich but great seasoning. The sauces were in perfect portion. We finished with the mocho chocolate dessert. The layers of mouse chocolate were decadent. I highly recommend for families, or date night. We ate inside but they also have a very lovely, picturesque outside seating as well.

Best food option in the Pearl district

By Elvia M |

Best food in the Pearl district. We happened to come & without a reservation on Friday night were happy to be seated at the bar. We had a wonderful pairing of escargot with a fabulous sparkling rose. We thoroughly enjoyed the duck confit. The green pepper sauce was heavenly. Portions are perfect. Service is attentive & knowledgable. Ambience is great. Highly recommend this establishment.

Great high-end French food with a lovely ambiance

By Abigail H |

We were in the Pearl district, looking for a nicer place to eat. This one stood out to us with their outdoor seating and extensive beverage list. We sat outside. Our server was great! He asked if we were celebrating anything special and we told him we were on our honeymoon. He offers us a round of drinks on the house! The old fashioned and champagne were good. He then told us about the history of the restaurant - the chef’s menu spans from his childhood (macaroni) to his more mature adult life’s recipes (tartare and escargot). We ordered the baguette with butter, braised beef cheek with Mac n cheese, and chicken cordon bleu with broccolini. The food was wonderful and the ambience was very classy. We were too full for dessert, but the offerings were extensive. We would definitely return here for a special occasion!

This is quite bad...

By TravelerTrecker |

Food of very poor quality, very poor service, not very clean. They are proud of the creme Brule; this one is very far from the good ones from France. I dont recommend this place. Very expensive.

Unremarkable!

By Andrea W |

The website states " you'll feel out of place in jeans and t- shirt". Well, more patrons had t-shirts, jeans, shorts, flip flops, and hats on than not. Very noisy! Hard to read menu! Slow service! Few menu selections. The bagette, butter, and escargots were very good! My husband ordered the rib eye and I ordered the prime steak frite. The ribeye was so thin, it looked like a steak you would order for breakfast! And my husband said it had no taste. The seasoned butter on the steaks had too much rosemary in it. The french fries were out of a bag. The frozen/fried fries tasted just like OreIda frozen french fries. Sooo disappointing! Waste of time and money. We have dined all over the world and this has to be one of the worse meals we have encountered.

Regular service. Good food.

By Coco Alvarez |

Rich strong dishes, although they carry French fries (something more American style). The snails taste good but not fabulous. The place is with good decoration and atmosphere. The service leaves something to be desired; if you are not local the treatment of wait staff is regular.

Go for many things, but not steak…

By Dighead |

Great location, some terrific menu items, lovely server…but $92 for an 8oz fillet? Check yourselves Mon Chou Chou. That is outrageous.

Excellent restaurant ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

By Cheryl L. |

First experience at the restaurant, lovely service and great food. We had a chance to chat with the owner and that was awesome😊. We really enjoyed our time there,I highly recommend and we will go back for sure😊

Best French restaurant!

By jimbalaya1 |

Been here many times. Been to Paris & Lyon. Mon Chou Chou is as good or better than any restaurant I ate at in France. Huge menu - food & wine. You can’t go wrong ordering anything. Best restaurant in San Antonio!!!

Amazing is an understatement!!!!

By Deidra M |

My husband and I went for a date night this weekend. Upon arrival we were quickly seated on a Saturday night. Our server left us sitting for quite a while and the manager noticed. After almost 10 mins, he came over for introductions and recommendations. His customer service was top notch & his recommendations did NOT disappoint!!!! I could easily go back and eat nothing but their appetizers. We ordered the SANDWICH AU FROMAGE RACLETTE and let me just say, if you're a cheese lover this appetizer is EVERYTHING!!!! We also ordered the ESCARGOTS DE BOURGOGNE À L’ ANCIENNE. My husband and I couldn't pass up a chance for some escargot. My husband's lamb chops were cooked to perfection and my Veal Cordon Bleu was so flavorful!!!! Our waitress ended up giving us superb service. It's definitely our new favorite date night spot!!!!

Disappointing French Restaurant

By Angela Turner |

Not nearly as good as I expected it to be. Was highly disappointed. Expensive but to be expected there. Needs a few more selections. The chucuterie board was the weirdest one I have ever had. No cheese on it. Never seen pickled vegetable on it before. The polenta on the lamb meal was super runny. Almost like soup. Needed to be thicker. The service was good and it was decorated nice. Not my type of french restaurant.

After looking forward to celebrating my birthday at Mon Chou Chou, what a disappointment it was. I don't remember the last time we had such bad service and food. We had a reservation, but still they managed to give us a table that wobbled the entire night. We had to ask for help with it, but instead of offering another table (several were open), they tried to fix it, but what they did, didn't work. To make matters worse, when our waiter came, he seemed tired, and it felt like he didn't really want to be there. And he really wasn't there, at least for us. The times he came to our table, his attitude was rushed and not the best. Service took long, drinks took long, meal took long, even the one dessert that was ordered took long. The Raclette did not impress us and was for me, absolutely overpriced. The Couscous aux Legume was undercooked, without much taste, except the pepper, which took over the entire dish. The Chicken Cordon Bleu underwhelmed. The crust was hard and extremely greasy, the chicken had no flavor and the fries were lukewarm when it got to our table. The only thing that was OK, was the IPA. It was sad and disappointing. It took away from our expectations and from enjoying my birthday celebration. I was embarrassed for having suggested the place. Wish we had had a better experience, since we had read the rave reviews, but for us, it absolutely wasn't.

Excellent food, cute location in Pearl Brewery

By Michael W |

Excellent meal. Started with their signature cheese dish, with ham. It was fantastic. I had the duck confit, and my partner had the roast chicken breast. Both were delicious. The mocha dessert closed an excellent meal.

Meh, not worth price

By TXborn |

Went to this establishment because we were in the Pearl area and was really excited about trying out dinner here. Was thoroughly disappointed. I purchased a filet mignon that was $95 thinking it would blow me out of the park but instead I can get better tasting steak at like a local steakhouse. The steak had no flavor and it was sweet. Other family members had the duck confit which was burnt the dessert was burnt. The only thing that was good was a baguette with cheese. Would not spend my money here go somewhere else. Too much hype not worth the price.

Off the charts. You must go.

This is a true Brasserie serving a wide-ranging menu of very high-quality items. We were a party of four, each had a different dish and every one of them was absolutely perfectly prepared and presented. The service was on par with the food. Anticipatory, efficient, and warm. Highly recommend it and will definitely return soon and often.

Parisian Brasserie at the Pearl

By Johnnie D |

This Parisian Brasserie is the real deal. It is located off the main drag at the Historic Pearl. Everything is just has it would be if walking into a brasserie in Paris from the décor to the sidewalk tables manned by long apron clad waitstaff. And of course, a French Chef. Chef Laurent Réa creates the delicious dishes in their creamy sauces & herbal broths you would expect at any good French restaurant. You will also find authentic French favorites like Onion soup with Emmental cheese and Cognac, Escargots in puff pastry, Paté of the day, and sausage plate with marinated vegetables & crusty French bread. The dessert selection includes light dishes and bright fruit giving you just enough to please the palate. And of course, there is plenty of wine and champagne to go around, many by the glass or bottle or you cab try one of their French cocktails. There are many place to park around the Pearl, some free and some with a small fee. There are also places to shop in the area. You can spend the day there.

Get the french onion soup!

Really good restaurant with the French onion soup being a real star. They use Emmental cheese and Cognac and it comes out just fabulous. Pro tip: while reservations are hard to get, we walked in at noon on a Saturday and got a bar seat immediately.

Great food, not great service

By Amy C |

I really want to love Mon Chou Chou. It’s in a great location, has a great atmosphere and plays authentic French music. It has a good menu and should be amazing. It just doesn’t quite make it, the service has been so bad the last 2 times we’ve been here. It kind of kills the vibe when you have a great cheese board with no bread, no drinks for the first 30 minutes you are there. The food is pretty good but the frustration of bad service makes it a pretty terrible experience

All French

Decor , food , completely authentic and so Parisian we thought. My husband had Racklette which was such a treat. I ordered wrong and ended up w gamey time and anchovy.. yuck.. my fault. Pot du creme -divine . Loved the gold lighting abs accents and brasserie details. Hard to decide from So many wonderful dining options at Pearl ..wow will be back

Phenomenal Atmosphere!

We had a great time enjoying a few cocktails and appetizers at this quaint French Restaurant in Pearl. Our bartender Stephanie was super cool, friendly, and professional. We truly enjoyed our mimosas as well as their Gin special drink, and the really tasty duck pate. Will definitely be back again!

Not up to previous high

By JJJRS5 |

Our second visit, and sadly a far cry from the 5 star previous experience we had. This time both my partner's filet de perches was "fishy" tasting and my filets de sole were so soft they would have been better used in a soup. The fries, which apparently are fried in lard as they should be, were excellent. Prices are high, even for such a nice restaurant; somehow I'm not sure SA is ready to pay $7.00 for a small baguette, and a couple of dollars more if you want more butter! The bread was excellent--seems like carbs are their specialty. Noise level was high, even with the restaurant less than full. This seems to be the trend--hard floors, etc. so that reviewers report how "lively" it was. Due to our first experience and the fact there just aren't many French restaurants in SA, we'll give it another shot, but probably avoid the seafood. Perhaps the chef was off Wednesday night?

Loved this restaurant!

When I first visited Paris, I fell in love with duck confit. It is not easy to find here at home, so when we saw it on the menu of this restaurant, we wanted to come and try it. It was our favorite meal during our trip to San Antonio! The duck was exquisite, and the accompanying potatoes were divine. The restaurant itself really felt like Paris, but with better table spacing. :) We hope to come here every time we visit this city.

Exceptional in all aspects!

By TexasTerriSa_Tx |

Exceptional in all aspects, this is the newest restaurant of the Southerleigh culinary team. Starting with the location, one is transported to a back street Parisian neighborhood. A Beautiful facade, with ample outdoor patio, perfect for people watching, and a warm inviting interior. The service staff were expertly trained, knowledgeable, and very personable. (Shout Out to Diane!) The menu is comprised of French comfort food prepared with knowledge and skill. On this visit we tried the “Crab & Salted Cod spread” with garlic toasts, equal amount of crab & fish in a warm tasty cheese sauce. The portion was more then enough for two; we ate it all! My husband chose the “Braised Rabbit” with house made pasta, meat falling off the bone into an amazing dijon mustard sauce. I ordered the “Duck confit” the most perfectly prepared with crispy skin; it came in a wonderful green peppercorn sauce and frites.(Please do not ruin it by requesting ketchup for your fries). No room for dessert.

Anniversary Delight!!

By 24hrtrippers |

Anniversary Delight!! First time visit and thanks to Philippe for booking assistance started off with glass of champagne. So we needed a high quality tasty French Restaurant in San Antonio and got it. Escargot are exactly like you would get in Paris. French Onion soup flavor best ever and enjoyed lobster bisque as well. Great steaks and the Pot Mocha Coffee dessert was a superb finishing touch. Reynaldo is a solid advisor and positive attitude server. Mon Chou Chou, we will be back for Mother’s day with French cooking mother. Cheers, J&L

Excellent Meal and Service!

Meet friends for dinner, first time here for all of us. Thoroughly enjoyed it! Started off with the SANDWICH AU FROMAGE RACLETTE, the cheese was excellent as was the bread! The ESCARGOTS DE BOURGOGNE À L’ ANCIENNE were very nice and more wonderful bread! Two of use had the CORDON BLEU DE VEAU, one had the bouillabaisse special, loaded with clams, scallops monk fish, etc and we had a Ribeye. All dishes wee excellent. We finished off with the MOCHA POT DE CRÈME, CARAMEL SEL DE MER, CRÈME CHANTILLY dessert. Great wine also. The Manager, Brian also stopped by several times o see that all was going fine. We will be back!

Great upscale dining in the Pearl

By Marv L |

The Pearl area is a must visit and this is the must restaurant in the Pearl. Choices are unusual, service is great. The owner, Philippe, greeted us personally and was charming. Definitely upscale but worth the price.

It was awesome!

Excellent Lunch in an Outstanding Environment

By Steve C |

So, six of us went to Mon Chou Chou to celebrate my Belgian/Texan friend's 75th birthday. He is an international foodie and great fan of the brasserie. After enjoying our Americano cocktails (which were refreshing, but a little weak, possibly due to the bartender's unfamiliarity with the drink), we toasted the birthday boy with a bottle of Ruinart brut blanc de blanc. Since we all had similar meals, this review will be based on my experience, not others. I started with a delicious cup of the Gratinee Lyonnaise.. The Emmental cheese was melted just right with some slight browning. And, the soup itself was richly onion flavored. Next I had a butter lettuce salad with a vinaigrette which was fresh

Excellent restaurant

Family lunch in this superb brasserie, very warm welcome by the chef, quality products, refined flavors. A very pleasant moment

Must try!

By Randy R |

Best restaurant I’ve been to in a while! I’ve been wanting to try this for a year now. (Far from house) I’m wish I would have gone sooner! Food was amazing!! Best French onion soup I’ve ever had. I thought about ordering it again as a dessert because it was so good. Wife had the house special steak with the morel mushroom sauce…: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. That will be another reason to go back so soon. It was amazing. Great atmosphere and very helpful staff.

Did I mention the cheese?

By Romulas80 |

After seeing a picture of the Raclette cheese sandwich (which they very smartly put front and center in all their marketing), we made a reservation immediately. We sat outside with our little dog and had a great time. They even brought him his own bowl of water. Said Raclette cheese sandwich was every bit as good as everyone says and was absolutely the highlight of the visit. The escargot was perfectly cooked in garlic butter and was delicious. My wife ordered the Goat Cheese Salad, which she greatly enjoyed and had (almost) too much cheese, a very good problem to have since most places are so chintzy with their cheese. I had a Croque Monsieur in Paris that changed my life and have been on the lookout for its doppelganger stateside, so I had to try the Croque Monsieur here. It was VERY different from the one in France, so my search continues, but it was very tasty and absolutely drenched in cheese, which always gets you an A+ in my book. It also came with a side salad that was surprisingly good, as well. For dessert, we got the crème Brûlée and “Floating Island.” They were both amazing, as well. I particularly liked the Crème Anglaise in the “Floating Island.” Soooo good. Note: If you visit Brasserie Mon Chou Chou and don't order the Raclette cheese sandwich, you done messed up!

Nice!

A great place eat while visiting The Pearl in San Antonio. The restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating. Staff were pleasant and attentive. They welcomed us and promptly got us seated once our reservation was confirmed. Wait staff introduced herself after we were seated. She handed out menus and offered water. She explained the menu and answered our questions. Starters were Raclette w/ Bayonne Ham & Lyonnaise w/ chicken livers. Both were delicious! Mains were mussels, lamb shank and crispy duck confit- fresh and tasty. Save room for dessert- poire au vin & profiterole. Well worth the extra calories. Service was outstanding. She checked in on us throughout the meal. Cleared dishes as needed and topped off water/wine glasses. A great place to unwind and enjoy great food.

We had dinner here this month and it was fabulous. Everything was properly done and the service was top notch

Wonderful meal!

By Katie H |

We made reservations about 2 weeks in advance because it was hard to get a reservation. The food was wonderful....we started out with an order of the bread and French onion soup. ....think it was the best I have ever had. There were 4 of us and we all had the Branzino with brown butter sauce....just delicious! Loved the atmosphere...a lively crowd. It was very noisy at the beginning but calmed down later in the evening. Had a couple of bottles of good wine and finished with the pear and ice cream and creme brûlée
