My husband and I had lunch at Meat & Three today. He had a shrimp poboy. I had the pulled pork hash. It was absolutely delicious. The biscuit was perfect. The peach jam (tastes like peach pie without the crust) was so yummy. Excellent service.

See, I like food a lot. It is a big part of "sightseeing" for me. So I like to try as many different places as I possibly can when I visit a new city. I went to Brenda's for Sunday brunch and then spent the next morning planning how many times I could go back before I left Wednesday (I had to settle, because they were closed Tuesday and I was too embarrassed to go twice on Monday). Where to begin? The biscuits are famous for a reason - so whatever you do, don't miss those. Everything was so well seasoned as well (best hash I ever had, amazingly spiced peach cobbler) and cooked to perfection (fried chicken is a recommend!). The staff were so friendly and helpful with recommendations, the space so cool (I didn't sit there, but there was a pretty great-looking back patio.. see if you can swing a seat out there on a nice day). So yeah, I pretty much sold all my food tourist principles up the river and would do it again in a heart beat.. for Brenda's cream biscuits.

The food was phenomenal! The fried catfish was flavored well and light, not greasy at all and the sauce that came with it was the perfect addition. The Mac n cheese and fried okra was very tasty, I didn’t like the garlic spinach (it needed more flavor, maybe a little salt)! Overall it was delicious and I will definitely be returning to try a few things, including the crawfish beignets!!

Having been out for lunch & just needing a light dinner we popped around the corner from our accommodation to Brenda’s meat & 3. The staff were very friendly & welcoming but the music was not to our taste & was a bit noisy. My husband would have preferred a leaner meat offering & didn’t like the way the green beans were cooked. I enjoyed my gumbo.

Absolutely delicious. We came for an early dinner on a Sunday and got a table right away. Shrimp hushpuppies were so good. Spare ribs were messy, but delicious. Fried chicken was to die for. All our sides were fantastic. Wish there was room for dessert. We will come back for breakfast very soon. Oh, great service too. Couldn't be happier. Dinner for 2 with no alcohol, $60.

Great breakfast place!!! Southern food—done well. Enjoyed the fried chicken Benedict. The sampler beignets was a good way to go for a group to share—but plenty filling itself! Great friendly service!

We stopped in for a late lunch with family and I felt totally at home- the food, people, and decor reminded me so much of the vibrant, authentic down-home places I've been in the South and elsewhere. Lunch was so good (the food prep is excellent across the board) that we came back for breakfast the next day, and same thing. Tremendous, personable service with great, great people, blues/r&b in the air, and an experience that really lifted my spirits. Thank you! We will be back every time we come to town!

I come here when I want shrimp and grits and don't want to wait at Brenda's main restaurant on Larkin. This sister restaurant rarely has waits like the original. The biscuits are huge, the shrimp and grits outstanding. Tom once had the bologna sandwich which was massive - thick slices of bologna on a roll with a spiced mayonnaise like sauce and other accompaniments. I've had other dishes but I always come back to the shrimp and grits.

Well aware that Brenda’s French Soul Food was a growing concern with an ever-expanding queue it was in 2014 that owner Brenda Buenviajé teamed up with restaurateur Andre Larzul to open a second concept, the idea of a “Meat & Three” hatched from Buenviajé’s Southern upbringing and a concept novel to The Bay. Quite literally one Meat and three Side Dishes from a daily menu, though some of Brenda’s classics made their way over to a constant list including famous Fried Chicken that is spiced to the Bone beneath golden Batter, guests are also smart to order Gumbo made the proper way with Okra, Andouille, Shellfish and assertive dark Roux. Odd in terms of service, the waitress quite lovely while a man confirming reservations behind Plexiglass was confrontational to more than one party, sides found Fries outpacing Slaw and frankly-dry Cornbread though the oversized Biscuits were weighty and soft. Open all day Wednesday through Monday, both Breakfast and Lunch served till 3pm, Brenda’s famous Beignets are unchanged from Polk Street, though dollar-for-dollar and bite-for-bite the best dish on this morning was thick Sweet Potato Pancakes liberally covered in a Sauce of melted Pralines.

We came across Brenda's on our walk to another restaurant and decided to scrap our original plan and eat there. We're glad we did. My boyfriend chose the fried chicken benedict and I had the spicy chicken sandwich. Both were amazing. This place knows how to work with spices and how to fry a chicken! We want to go back tomorrow!

Was looking for breakfast one morning and was recommended this place. Well worth a visit as well as their sister restaurant in the city but in my opinion if you’re out this way, go here or even make the trip it’s that good. Do eggs any way you wish for a varied choice of dishes. Waiting staff are attentive helpful and willing to chat if you’re that way out. Had the hash with a biscuit and poached eggs, delightful.

We visited Brenda's Meat and Three today for brunch.Had to wait for more than an hour to be seated. Selected Granny Smith Apple Beignets and Ginger Ale for appetizers and main course Big Mama's Spicy Chicken Sandwich ,Fried Veggie Po' Boy and Sweet potato pancakes with butter pecan sauce .The food was very tasty and service excellent .It was worth waiting and in spite of the crammed seating. They have different menu for breakfast, brunch and dinner and is open from 8 am to 10 pm.Realised later you can take a token on line to reduce waiting time.A " must" for good southern American food .

We went here for dinner and it was the best meal we had in San Francisco. We went on a Monday evening and were seated right away. We chose the meat with 3 sides. There were 4 meats and about 15-20 sides to choose from which they wrote on a board at the back of the restaurant. My partner and I chose different things and shared so there were 8 different items for us to enjoy, 2 meats and 6 sides. Everything was fabulous, so much flavor and the portions were generous but not so much so as to be wasteful. We don't usually have dessert but the beignets appealed to us so were ordered the plate of 3 - 1 plain, 1 chocolate filed and 1 apple filled. Oh My! they came hot and were fantastic. We each had a beer and the total for our meals including tax and tip was $90.00

Amazing food and service. Had the meat loaf - it was amazing! Great selection of beers too. Relaxed atmosphere - just right

I bought a glass of wine and an oyster po boy. The wine was listed as $9 on the menu and the bill priced it at $12. I kindly pointed it out to the server and she said 'we had a price adjustment'. I said that's not cool and sounds like bait and switch. I asked why no one told me when I ordered that the price increased? She had no answer. Obviously, $3 is not a huge amount but the changing of listed prices is not an ideal business practice. (See picture posted.). I had to leave to catch a flight and did not ask for a manager.

Big potions, reasonable prices for some down home southern cook in'! Great blend of spices and flavors for a rich authentic gumbo or buiscuits and sausage gravy or a po'boy shrimp sandwich- Yum! NOTE: weekend brunch is very popular so arrive early (no later than 9am) and avoid the long wait for a table. Also it's a small place so don't invite more than two other couples!

We got to Brenda's cajun/creole installment with high expectations for brunch. Friendly staff and great position are a big plus. Unfortunately the food was not up to par with the buzz. The eggs benedict florentine were overloaded with spinach, the biscuits were really dry and the hash overcooked. That was consistent around the table. The eggs were actually good, and that's all, unfortunately. With all the different brunch choices in SF, this disappointing visit does not encourage us to go back.

Brenda’s Meat & Three enticed me with their blues music but made me sit down with their menu. Similar to the other place, you can get hearty breakfast fare, American style lunches and plenty of beverages to choose from to wash down the great food. Today I tried the house made Watermelon Sweet Tea with Brenda’s Fried Chicken. The tea was sweeter than my usual but complimented the spicy chicken well. The spicy fried chicken had a nice kick that did not overwhelm the tender chicken meat. My plate had 1 wing and 1 breast piece. The humble decor and friendly staff made the whole experience a delight. I highly recommend this neighborhood cafe!

Hearty soul food at its finest! Nice staff and one of the cutest, dog friendly patios ever. Everything we ordered was out of this world good! I have a feeling that no matter what you order there, it will be yummy.

We were craving good veggies in a city with Italian and seafood everywhere. We found this place on trip advisor and tried it. Very quaint local restaurant with tasty veggies and excellent Cajun food. Limited bar menu but the food made up for it!!

First time here for breakfast. Didnt' have a reservation, grateful they found us a table. Great service, super fast and really nice staff. Friend ordered Chicken Fried Steak, which I think he enjoyed. Massive portion. I had the basic Eggs Benedict. Eggs were cooked perfectly. Taters were good. What was off for me was the hollandaise sauce which was a bit skimpy and pretty flavorless. And the so called biscuit was hard and I had to cut it with a knife. Tad disappointing. I would have returned it to be re-done, but they were super busy and I was being treated by a friend for breakfast. IF it were to happen again, I would return it. I will give a shout out to Brenda's Breakfast Club Sandwich, $5.00 during the week. Great deal, plentiful and yummy. For a couple bucks more you can add breakfast taters. I will keep returning so I can try "all the combinations". I do appreciate you can have your eggs cooked however you like for these little sandwiches.

Stopped in for Saturday brunch. All the selections looked good. The chocolate beignets were a bit large — make sure you have someone to share them with. Biscuits and gravy should have been better for a place with a southern focus — dry and crusty with almost no sausage. The blueberry pomegranate mimosa though was a treat.

In the SF "NoPa" district where parking is challenging but we, (party of 4) got there before the brunch crowd. Sat 8:45AM we were seated immediately with still plenty of tables available. Delicious coffee was served, self table setting, wonderful jams for the calas/biscuits, just enough punch in the Creole Hollandaise sauce on my eggs Benedicts which were cooked just right. Fresh/hot coffee was refilled frequently but one incorrect dish was served which was replaced with the correct order. The incorrect dish was not removed from the bill and had to flag the server to adjust the bill. Meal was rich and filling; would have like beignet in the menu.

A friend recommended this place because it was close to where we were visiting. They are open but dinner doesn't start getting served until 5pm. We all ordered something different, catfish (very moist), fried chicken (delicious), chicken fried steak (tasty), & gumbo (spicy). For the sides we got Mac & cheese, okra & corn, cream biscuit, cornbread, sweet potatoes, red beans & rice, & sweet potato fries. Everything was delicious. Favorite was the watermelon iced tea and chocolate beignets for dessert. Not much parking around, we were lucky.

The food was great, the best fried chicken we have had in a long time. Also the salad was really good and there are plenty of vegetarian options. The service was also excellent!!!

The place is very reasonably priced with delicious food and great service. The portions are very generous and beignets are a must!

Good place to enjoy soul food in the Western Addition. Generous portions, tasty food, and amiable service.

For breakfast Brenda’s can’t be beat. There are no weak spots on the menu. The coffee is great. The peach preserves are great. The breakfast selections are great. The service is great. Stuffed Johnny Cakes, pulled pork hash, Specials you can’t go wrong. The portions are plentiful and although it is not cheap it is worth every penny. Highly recommended if you are in the area😘

Tasty foods and lovely atomosphere! I ordered Egg Benedict and spinach ,so yummy! I found a good place for brunch!

Brenda's was recommended to me (a European visitor) and an out-of-town friend, it was a short bus ride from the hospital where we were visiting our mutual friend. we had no idea what to expect and we absolutely loved it! Great food, large portions, probably the best coleslaw in the world and the most charming waiter in the USA. He wowed us with his friendly charm, I think his name was Eric. Even the watermelon iced tea was delicious. No faults at all in this great restaurant and top marks for the hygiene throughout.

We just finished a satisfying breakfast - enhanced by friendly & outstanding customer service. First off, I have been a long time customer of the original Brenda's French Soul Food. This branch serves similar items, including her renowned biscuits. A few months ago, we were visiting our doctor in the UCSF building at Post. We decided to order takeout from Brenda's Meat & 3. When we got home, we discovered they had forgotten my biscuit order. I called to advise of the mistake and the manager told me that he would put my name in a book they keep at the front & the next time I came they would make up for the error. Six months later, after another UCSF appointment we decided to eat in. When I told the manager about the previous take out order, he said he'd take care of me, confirmed my name & that was it. Three of us ordered a cup of gumbo, flapjacks with bananas, biscuits & country gravy w/2 eggs and a chicken fried chicken breast (my order) and the day's omelet of shrimp & goat cheese. Everything was delicious, hot and filling. We ended up taking much of it home. We were told that dinner is even better- meat entrees with a choice of three sides, the quintessential Southern plate. When the check came, they comped my meal, which was a nice surprise (I thought they'd just deduct the biscuit). I highly recommend any Brenda's, but this spot is much less busy than the original, food is just as good and ambience is less frenetic. Thanks Brenda & staff for the fine Southern hospitality!

Whoa. So good . Veggie sandwich was out of this world. My husband had the fried chicken and sides. SO good!!

Our party of five had an early dinner here recently. Our mains, all of which were excellent, were fried chicken, blackened red snapper and blackened strip steak. Prices for the mains ranged from $16.75 (fried chicken) to $19.75 (strip steak). Prices for the mains included three sides. Our sides included creamed spinach (excellent!), cornbread, mac and cheese, cheese grits and brussels sprouts (overcooked and disappointing). The side dishes were about twice a normal serving; three was over the top.

I'll start by saying this spot is small, and they don't take reservations. There is usually a line, so either get there early (for brunch) or be ready to wait. It's worth the wait, its my favorite southern breakfast spot in the city. I prefer this spot over the other Brenda's restaurant, mostly because Brenda's Meat & three is located in a safer neighborhood than Brenda's french soul food. On to the food: Our group started with the beignet flight and oh man what a treat. I am usually not a savory beignet fan but the crawfish beignet was delicious. My husband got the Big Mama's spicy fried chicken sandwich - what they are known for and it was REALLY good. I opted to try the sweet potato pancakes as it was on the specials board and I was not disappointed. Huge portions, and the sweet potato flavor stood out without being too sweet, it was topped with a butter pecan sauce and it was heavenly.

I periodically have breakfast here with some New Orleans-loving friends. They know food, and they swear this is the best in the City and very authentic (along with the other Brenda's). Grits, pork hash, scrambles with fried oysters, shrimp and okra, shrimp and grits, stuffed johnnycakes, etc. No, really; you can have a light breakfast! Everything tastes great to me. Oh, and my friends always "take home" a "beignet flight", but I'm not sure that it makes it all the way home.

You'd better be very hungry to eat a big portion of meat plus three sides! You don't have to order meat & three, but it was best value for money, from certain perspective. I was totally not impressed by their sides, but the back ribs were good and tender and juicy. The roasted pork was so so, the famed fried chicken might be good - we didn't try. They had this annoying rule that you couldn't sit unless all your party have arrived, so the 4 of us waited for 40+ mins for another buddy to arrive outside the restaurant.

Wow-wee!! If you like tasty food then you need look no further than Brenda's Meat & Three! We had dinner here and my goodness this meal made me SO FLIPPING HAPPY!! Great concept, engaging staff and delicious food! We both ordered from the meat and 3 menu, I had the chicken and he had the catfish. All the sides were bang on for flavour and the cheeky extra side of grits that we ordered was such a delicious delight. This place is a great find so if you are on Tripadvisor looking for a place to dine then waste no more time in looking- you've found it- get yourself down there and EAT!!!

We were warned there would be a queue and there was, although we must have timed it right as didn't have to wait too long to be seated. There's a board outside that you can write your name and numbers of guests on so you can see how long you have to wait/how many people are in front of you. The waitress was lovely and as some dishes were typically American she helped explain what they were (i.e. grits!). They had a great selection available, in fact almost too much as it took me ages to decide! I eventually went for the pulled pork hash which was incredible, but wish I could have gone back to try the pancakes with bacon and maple syrup! The photos don't do this place justice, it's really quirky and cool with a laid back atmosphere, the type of place you could spend hours at over breakfast, reading newspapers and refilling your coffee 20 times. As we left we realised there was a really cool terrace at the back which I think would be really cool during the summer months.

We had the shrimp & grits, fried chicken, and red beans & rice. Delicious! Best fried chicken ever. The staff was incredibly friendly (especially Quinn). We will make this a regular stop when we are in SF.

very good food! i am from the south and have louisiana roots and this place did not disappoint. definitely make a reservation, when we got there the wait to eat was 2 hours (sunday brunch). had the eggs benedict with pulled pork and hash and ate the entire thing. service was great. homeless people in the area and there was one asking people to buy him food for the entire time we sat there (~30 minutes) but that's not unusual in SF.

Gorgeous day in SFO. Sat out back on the patio. Watermelon Iced Tea and Shrimp Hushpuppies. The Spicy Chicken Sandwich and Collard Greens were my favorite. Awesome laid back but attentive service. Elevated down home cooking.

I was very excited to try this place, and I must say that I was not disappointed. Upon my arrival, the waiting time looked to be very long, but it actually went by quick. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu when asked questions. However the menu was very limiting not a lot of entrees or appetizers to choose from. The waitress recommended the crawfish beignet and it was SOOOO AMAZING!!! I ordered a shrimp po'boy and my fiancé ordered a crawfish po'boy as well and IT WAS SO DELICIOUS!!! A must try for stew when in the city.

The food here is amazingly phenomenal. We shared the pumpkin spice pancakes (with the cream cheese topping). As if that was not enough, for myself I had sausage, cheesy grits (which were to die for), biscuits and poached eggs. I still have visions and wishes from that meal, months later. A definite recommend.

This place as a perfect formula for providing first rate Cajun themed food at reasonable prices. And it's a really fun place to eat, too. Good beer list!

Yes, there's a long wait for brunch on Sunday. Just do it. Where else are you going to get pulled pork hash, or cinnamon bun pancakes, or crispy pork belly and grits, or a pork belly po' boy? Nowhere but here. And the biscuits... They could have a successful restaurant if they sold nothing but biscuits. So just stand in line and you'll be happy.

Was there with friends and enjoyed their back garden with some great brunch servings. Their pork belly were amazingly tender and juicy. Yummy potato pancakes and best fried rolls I've tried for long time. Go there!!

I met four cousins I had not seen in years there for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. I had BIG MAMA’S SPICY CHICKEN SANDWICH and it was as good as anything I can remember in New Orleans. Great menu, fair prices, and terrific service. Give it a try.

Based on good Yelp reviews, tried Brenda's for casual Valentines Day dinner. Teenage son and partner loved the fried chicken, home-made biscuits and mac & cheese. My appetizer size baby back ribs brought 4 meaty ones that came easily off the bone, tender but good chew, and a sauce that was mildly spicy and not too sweet. Coleslaw was even exceptional--just enough onion to make it worth eating. Too full to try dessert but definitely going back soon. Flexible menu allows for meat&three side dinners or a la carte choices. Small place. Perfect service. Reasonable prices.

If you want southern fried chicken you can taste the iron skillet they used this is the place. Biscuits so light and airy and did I mention the Johnny Cakes with shrimp, bacon and cheese OMG.

We got here early so got seated straight away, but by the time we left people were queuing. Food was excellent especially the ribs, mac & cheese & grasshopper pie (we were full but couldn’t not try it, but the pie is huge so was enough between 3 of us) Loved this place so much I’ve recommended it to a friend who’s visiting in a few weeks.

Went with a friend who lives in the area. I cannot do “heat” in my food well, so when menu items read “spicy,” I don’t think that I can eat it. The crawfish beignet and the fried chicken both read “spicy.” However, I enjoyed both. So spicy here means “well seasoned” and not “hot” (and crawfish beignet was dusted with cayenne). I had Fuji apple pancakes with walnut butter that, frankly, was underwhelming. The cream biscuit was quite good, and my friend’s gumbo was really good. The beignets, the main reason for going, were very good. I would try it again but would not order any kind of pancake.

Our party of 3 went here last weekend for breakfast. It was very good too. We ordered variations of eggs benedict one came with fried oysters, mine came with pulled pork. The other order in our party was sausage and eggs and all three came with their classic hash (potato mix). We had coffee and juice as well and our server was super friendly and attentive to our needs. We'll go back.

Not far from 4505 BBQ on Divisadero is another solid Southern restaurant, with a short-ish menu, but many dishes cooked with a twist. 'Spicy' fried chicken, gigantic beignets (savoury not sweet, stuffed with small shrimps), dungeness crab croque-monsieur, gumbo, etc. They should provide Tabasco sauce, of preferably Sriracha, for customers wanting spicier food. Those who say "an apple a day keeps the doctor away" would add "a Brenda's meal a day would block the arterial ways", but in the meantime, enjoy the food!

I would usually only order seafood in San Francisco but Brenda’s came highly recommended. We had two meals for two people. The first was the fried chicken which comes with three pieces. The second was county style ribs which comes with two huge ribs. Add three vegetables each ( the and 3 in the title ) and two hungry people still couldn’t quite eat it all. Oh yeah, and everything was delicious. Small place , nice people.

The meat and 3 refers to sides. Great choices and the menu changes weekly if not daily so always something to try out. The beignets were as advertised, but the entire menu had good choices. Loved the sides and with 4 people eating we had potential for 12 different sides and I think we ended up with 10 different choices at the table. Busy spot so reserve. Lot's of other really busy spots within a couple of blocks so if you don't book you can go hunting.

We were traveling through San Francisco on a trip from San Diego to Seattle, and a friend recommended Brenda’s. I’m originally from the South, so we were happy to hear about a good meat and three in the city. The cheese grits and biscuits were delicious, and who can say no to beignets?!? The neighborhood has a great vibe too. We will be back!

Ate here from recommendation of the innkeeper where we stayed - great food, different concept. Good service.

Eat here. Now. Don't waste any more time looking around for restaurants, just walk out the door and head straight here.

My wife and I are over from Ireland and were meeting some friends for dinner, whose apartment we were staying in close by. The staff were so lovely and the food was great. Would recommend this place!

ihad a very good brenda s chiken with a perfect cole slaw, swet spicy fried chiken tasty and a kale salad my wife , it was very southern stile , very good music , the place is simple easy going , perfect for a lunch

I don't say this very often but its pretty close to New Orleans in local neighbor hood location. Had the catfish and gumbo. Both were excellent. You get to pick meat or fish from the daily list and then get 3 veggies. You can add more of course. Or pick the daily regular items. All was very good. Highly recommend.

Best brunch ever. Enough said. They are located on Divisadero at McAllister. A block or two away from the Divis food gulch near Oak & Fell. Great food. Best breakfast ever. Large portions. Don't leave without a biscuit to go. Well staffed. A bit noisy. A patio in the back. Prices very reasonable. Get there by 9am for no wait.

Went for brunch on a Sunday about 10:00 so be prepared to wait for a while but the wait is worth it. I had the andouille sausage special omelette which was wonderful. Service was just as good as the food. You won't be disappointed if you go here. A perfect way to start the day.....

The only thing I regret from going to Brendas was leaving it for my last night in San Francisco. We really enjoyed this place from the service to the food everything was amazing. Great spot and dont sleep on that hot pepper jelly 😋

This is a perfect lunch spot if you are near the east side of the Panhandle...really good NOLA food including a great Gumbo, really good red beans and rice, really good fried chicken and hushpuppies to die for. Best of all the service is spot on...really customer focused friendly and helpful. Been here twice and will be back.

Dear my on my. Best ever. Bisquits n gravy with a cicken cutlet, tartine, pork belly. Amazing food and outstanding service. A must stop if you're in the San Francisco area.

I would give B’sM&T 10 stars if that were possible! What an amazing restaurant…this was our first visit to San Francisco and our meal at Brenda’s will be a fond food memory for life. We ordered the Fried Chicken (dark meat), the cheesy grits, collard greens and a Bavarian beer bottled. The fried chicken is served with the most moist, crumbly cream biscuit that along with the cheesy grits and pepper jelly is food nirvana! The fried chicken is phenomenal. I think words will not do this experience justice so I’ll stop now. Super highly recommended!

Best soul food I ever had outside of Brenda's other restaurant, Benda's French Soul Food, on Polk Street. Wonderful spicing. Brenda does iterations of grits, biscuits and fried things. My party and I sat at the counter. Fast service from personable and attentive staff. I had one-eyed jack biscuits and gravy with chicken Fried steak: Poached eggs on a heavenly, flaky, buttery biscuit. Tip: They don't take reservations. No tv. No wifi. Street parking. Great Bloody Mary's.

Came with family great vibe and friendly people. Food was tasty and the kids were really happy for once

Have eaten breakfast & lunch on numerous occasions in the past, this is a “go to” dining destination when we are in SF.

We got lucky one AM and found street parking on a weekday. So, we decided to try this place a second time. My biscuit was not as good as it was the first time When I tried it months ago. It had more butter before. I didn’t really like my shrimp grits. The grits was good but the sauce was too spicy. Hubby had the fried chicken breast and it was very good. I have to remember to order that next time. He liked his French toast too. Service was OK.

My partner and I stopped in to Brenda's Meat & Three to have a glass of wine from their bar on our way to another dinner reservation. We were so pleased with the atmosphere, reasonable prices, and friendly staff that we made a point of returning another night. The food was tremendous, huge portions for lots of smokey delicious southern meat and three.

As far as I can remember, this restaurant isn't in the main hubbub of SF. Worth a cab rude from the city centre. There was a good choice of mains but the hard part is choosing which 3 sides to have. I chose as one of mine the corn bread, it was delicious and worked very well with the fried chicken which was very tasty. No one in our group was disappointed with their choices. If I have one criticism it's that we weren't given the opportunity to have dessert. We were a party of 5 and to be fair it was getting on for their closing time. When we had finished our pares were cleared and the cheque presented. We should have said something, but it was late. Not sure if there's a children's menu.

Had the meatloaf and the grits which were awesome. Genuine home style southern food. Service was great, prices were reasonable. I just really enjoyed my meal there and would definitely return.

If you love low country cooking this is the place for you. We had everything and it was all excellent. You can tell the cooks care. The only regret is the bar/beer/wine choices are limited but your not there the bar its all about the food. Perfect fried chicken, mac'n cheese, red beans and rice, nuff said.

Ordered a pulled pork eggs benedict for myself and my friend ordered chocolate pancakes (forgot the exact name). It was pretty good; the eggs were cooked just right, the potatoes were great. Not that big of a crowd, so that was a big plus, and I guess they only serve eggs benedict on weekends, so good timing? Glad I ate here!

Food was generally good. Creole bloody mary was great, as was husbands red beans and rice. My fried chicken was a bit cold and greasy, as though it had been re-heated. The calas were delicious though.

I really love a mimosa..especially when it’s served in a pint glass with no ice!! Service was fab, loved the beignets. Will be visiting again next time we’re in town!

Laid back place with no frills. Very generous portions. Good food including the sauces and accompanying salad.

Had a great weekend brunch there. The bloody mary was just the right amount of spicy, as was the spicy chicken sandwich. Had the calas for dessert, and loved every bite. Friendly service and a great atmosphere! Definitely recommend.

Absolutely delicious meal, I had the blackened salmon with mash, green salad and coleslaw and it was delicious (but quite salty). The fried catfish was also delicious along with the French fries. We shared a meat and three along with a two sides between two people and had the perfect amount of food. It was a nice healthy(ish) break from all the junk we’d been eating on holiday.

Great brunch at Brenda's. French toast was awesome (and enough for breakfast the next day). We stayed across the street during a recent trip to San Francisco. 2 of my children ate here twice - they liked it so much. The po boy had lots of seafood in it. My eggs over easy were perfect. Only thing my family wasn't crazy about were the biscuits! Would definitely come here again.

Reasonably priced, large portions. Delicious fried chicken and lovely tender biscuits and slaw. Fries are disappointing and service is mediocre but this is otherwise a great experience.

I had Big Mama's Spicy fried chicken sandwich and a taste of the low down gumbo. Both were tasty. They also served some pickled watermelon rind that was tasty as well. Friendly atmosphere and delicious food.

Stopped in here after it was recommended to us. We really like the chill atmosphere. Service was excellent and the food was delicious. There are options for vegetarians as well. The beignets were amazing, I'd come back just for those!

We highly recommend this restaurant! The food was amazing, the service was excellent and it was quick! The biscuits and jam are a must try. The watermelon sweet tea was so refreshing! Definitely try this place!

This place is always very busy, so we planned to get there early for brunch. Lots of locals and a few tourists too. Ordered a portion of Calas! as a starter, the combination of rice dough, molasses and jam was really good. The Delta scramble closed the meal and it was delicious.

A board on the wall lists several meats and a long list of sides to make up your three. If you are vegetarian or vegan you can order only vegetables and have a delicious meal. I'll be back again. It gets crowded, especially on weekends, so go early or be prepared to wait. I saw the coconut pie being served to another table and while this trip I couldn't think about dessert after the large meal, I'll come back for that another time.

This is a gem of a place with amazing 'Shrimp and Grits' Enjoyed our meal but would have lived to have eaten here for dinner to taste the full menu.

The place is nice and friendly, the waitress was very kind and help us choosing. The food was amazing! We choose a meat and three sides (meat and three). Every choice we made was really tasty and delicious!

Wonderful new restaurant which is a neighborhood hang out. Went for brunch on a late Saturday morning. Had to stand in line for a few minutes. We got seats at the counter and it was fun to watch how the restaurant functioned. Service was quick and attentive. The grits are to die for! Cream biscuits were light and airy. The fried oyster eggs Benedict was delicious and large enough for two meals. The fried eggs came with a crisp edge which reminded me of fried eggs of childhood. They make their own sausage patties but no the links. Something for all tastes. Children welcome also. Prices were not bad, especially for San Francisco. Interesting décor. On the wall is the plaster façade of a long gone business in SF. I am so glad they saved it. One drawback is the parking. Had to park 2 blocks away and up a very steep hill. Maybe on the weekday it wouldn't be so bad.

It was my first visit to United States and my husband took me to San Francisco to spend time with his cousins. I'm so glad that they took us here at Brenda's for breakfast. The food is not only amazing it is also in big portions. I even took it to go and eat my left over the next day. The ambiance is nice. It's not a big place but it's not like you'll bump with someone. I like it. The service is amazing. The manager is so friendly. I'll definitely come back again on my next visit to SF.

So, listen. Stood in line at Brenda's French Soul and after being advised there was no wait at their "other" restaurant, jumped on a scooter and headed the 1.5 miles to it. Got there, and was informed couldn't be seated until the other two got their Uber over. Well, by the time they arrived, we had ended up waiting an hour with a hostess, even though there was a table when we got there, who could use some attitude adjustment. Just didn't have that "customer first" mentality. Even though they were close, she refused to seat us even under the circumstances. I even offered to order for all, but she couldn't listen. The food is good, but the hostess (not with the "most-ess" turned what should have been a great experience into one that was "less than average". Running a restaurant with an aire of "arrogance" and now a almost two hour wait (between the two restaurants) just turned what should have been a San Fran experience into a "let's get it over with" waste of a Sunday AM. Like I said. Food is good. But they really need some "compassion" for the customer, especially when they send you across town for "no wait"........ Hunter (Manager) you should take note and never take for granted the customer sitting in your entrance for an hour. For my time, I will go somewhere else, even if the food is pretty good. The aggravation isn't worth the loss of a nice Sunday morning. The young guy who DID wait on us, I think saw the calamity and he was very considerate and attentive (Beto T shirt). You are what we wanted to experience in the first place. I really wanted to give this place serious props, but after the difficulty in just getting to a table, I can't. Oh well. Hopefully these people will learn and improve.

I am tongue tied when it comes to reviewing this place. Not because I can't find anything to say but because I have sooooo much to say about this place. So many good, fantastic, wonderful, things to say. I just have to start out by saying for us this was our favorite restaurant in SF by far!!!! From the first day we chanced going until the last day of our two week vacation we enjoyed everything on the menu. Just about everything....we were not there long enough to eat through the menu but we will try upon our return. The staff - incredible, friendly, attentive, courteous, etc. absolutely fabulous! We fell in love with the little patio out back. The Johnny Cakes are a cannot miss out on, must have. I really mean that do not miss these. The biscuits and gravy. OMG! Must haves. My partner grew up on his grandmother making homemade biscuits and gravy and he said these were the best rivals to hers. (huge compliment) I have had her biscuits and gravy, I was hooked from the first bite and then Brenda's came along holy cow they are fantastic. I ate many of the breakfast offerings and loved all of them. The four pepper butter and the house made jams should not be missed. You must try them you will be pleasantly surprised. Okay, so we are sitting there one morning and we asked our server what the Meat and Three meant. Well she went and did it......she explained the meaning which in turn enlightened us to the fact that they were not just a breakfast/lunch place but that they were open for supper. So we stopped in one night and WOW. The pork chop was so tender my partner cut it with his fork as if it was butter. He said the flavor was great. Me? I had the fried chicken. All that I can say is that it is probably the best chicken I have ever had. Flavorful, perfectly spiced, and juicy. All of our sides were must haves. I just cannot say enough about this place. We do say to each other since we made it back home to Florida that we need a Brenda's here at home. If you go the San Francisco do not miss eating here. Go, go, go to Brenda's!!!!

I really wish I could give a 5 star review, because the food was good but the service was rude. We had a very good dinner but was asked to leave early due to fact that people were waiting for a table. Image our surprise when we found no one waiting! We wish that we could have finished our glass of wine! I'm not sure I will come back again because I was treated so rude.

We loved this restaurant. We ate on the cute porch out back. The decor was super fun! The staff was very attentive and our server was very friendly and attentive. I had the fried chicken, which was the BEST! Everyone at the table enjoyed the food and atmosphere. After you are done, you can easily walk to the Painted Ladies houses.

The beignet's sample platter was good and the crispy pork belly and grits was delicious! Would definitely come back and try something else!

WE loved brenda's. Ordered a meat and three sides and it was delicious. I loved the biscuit, greens along with my blackened fish.

Brenda's Meat and Three serves excellent and authentic Southern food in San Francisco. For a selection of entrees you can order three different side dishes. I had the barbecued ribs with okras, rice and beans and yams. We also tried the shrimp and grits, which was very cheesy and tasty. The food was delicious and the atmosphere of the restaurant is very nice and pleasant. A very good address in the Western Addition!

The hush puppies, beer, breakfast fare and salads made our group very happy to dine at Brenda's. The trick is go between lunch and dinner to get a table without waiting. We were there around 3 on a weekday and had terrific service and leisurely dining.

Small restaurant. It was perfect for our group size. Thanks for letting us sample watermelon tea. It was delish! Fish and grits were great! Would return.

This food is delish. Southern fried chicken and ribs with three sides. Yum. We had dessert also. Fantastic. Make sure you are hungry. This is no cheap bar and grill. The food is fantastic without being highly sweetened. We Aussies absolutely loved this place.

Great variety, interesting food, friendly service. We stopped in for breakfast on our first day in the neighborhood and we were pleasantly surprised to find this gem. the fried chicken, salads, were all good.

Deeeelicious! Some of the best biscuits I’ve ever had. Got an extra dose on the peach cobbler. Ribs were tender and not over seasoned or sauced. All the sides were spot on too.

So the first time we came here was because we heard it was one of the best fried chicken restaurants in the country and OMG it did NOT disappoint! We come all the way from the East Bay because it is always a treat worth driving for. We've tried various dishes, always delicious. I tend to the sweet, like the French toast with the butter rum sauce or beignet flight sampler. (Apple ones are my fav, but all amazing) But I also had the biscuits and gravy and it was by far the best I've ever had. The biscuit is so light and flaky and the gravy is just mmmmm! My husband prefers the savory and has tried, of course, the famous fried chicken. He raved about it and I had a bite. The perfect amount of crunch and moist & delicious. He also loved the Jonny cakes. He'd never heard of them before but loved them. So basically you just can't go wrong on their menu. The atmosphere is great. Not too loud, nice décor, quick & friendly staff. Especially love the patio area.

We enjoyed this restaurant. Service was friendly, menu interesting. The ribs were not a hit but the chicken and fresh veggies were great. Don’t pass up the Beignets, they were the best.

Such a great meal. Fried chicken, collards, pimento cheese, cream biscuits and cheese grits...all delicious Sad that we were too full for the beignet sampler....next time!
Go for unique and tasty Louisiana-inspired delights
My daughter and I had a delightful brunch here trying a variety of their unique dishes. We loved the idea that you can have 'taster'-sized dishes if you are not sure whether you will like it for a full order. The whole menu is creative and beignets and omelettes were delicious. Prices are fair. Ambiance is relaxed. Would definitely return.
