Food, Service and Atmosphere All Top Notch

By WilsyPV |

Stopped in for their early Happy Hour and we'll definitely return. The interior is warm and inviting as is their waitstaff. Great selection of beers and cocktails and the food menu gave us many selections and not just the fried variety that so many venue offer during the Happy Hour period. We went with the shredded pork shoulder layered on a Cheddar Cheese sauce served with tortilla chips which was delicious. It came in a 6" iron skillet and was more than enough for my wife and I. We had just come from another estblishment that didn't leave such a good taste in our mouths, so Brix saved the evening and we plan on returning for dinner. Well done...

Good place to watch a basketball game

By CohenD1234 |

We had dinner and watched a Houston Rockets playoff game at Brix last night. The restaurant is big and set up well for game watching. The food came quickly and portions were large but clearly everything was pre-made. My crab cakes were okay. My daughter’s roast turkey was very salty. We really liked the smoked cheddar fondue appetizer. Our waitress was friendly but disappeared frequently when she was needed. Extensive beer list was nice. I’m not from Portland so I’m not likely to be back but I might not go back if I were local. I’d rate Brix a 3.5 if I could.

Fun atmosphere, good food

By Robyn H |

I had the most interesting eggs Benedict I have ever had, with polenta, pulled pork, and Chipotle hollandaise. Others had a great Cobb salad, burger prime rib, and loved the tomato basil soup. Solid, filling, good.

Excellent value

By Elaine2858 |

We visited Brix on a Tuesday evening about six and were pleased to fine that happy hour was until 6:30. Wonderful cocktails were only $5.00 and good sized appetizers were also discounted. The food and drinks were a level above some of the more well known brew pub in the area. Service was pleasant and efficient. The atmosphere was cozy and upscale. Overall a very pleasant place that I highly recommend.

Great Happy Hour menu

By tonycox1 |

Always looking for a place in the Pearl to go for happy hour prior to going to a play at Portland Center Stage. Brix has an extensive menu, wines by the glass, beers. I like the spaciousness and windows. Service was friendly, although just a bit "casual" in pace.

Meh

By kelbelle2000 |

Service was great, atmosphere was lively and fun albeit a little generic. My Veggie Benedict, while very beautiful on the plate, tasted so very bland and was not hot. A little salt would have gone a long way. My friend's Chicken and Waffles dish was better but with so many other places in Portland to try, we probably won't go back.

Brunch and Birthday Celebration Saved!

By Zayas2011 |

Brix Tavern saved the day! We had plans to head out to Dundee for a birthday brunch with 10 of us when we called just to let them know we were coming and they told us groups are too chaotic. We then had the mad dash and scramble to find something else when Brix was recommended. We grabbed the 11: 15-time slot the night before (thank goodness for online reservations) and spread the word to the attendees of our new destination. This was absolutely perfect for our birthday celebration even with the drive! The food, atmosphere, service, and mimosas were exactly what we needed and they certainly didn't disappoint!! Thank you Brix Tavern and we all will be back after that amazing meal!

Nice atmosphere, average food.

By honeyblueelephant |

Well laid out restaurant, great staff and a good atmosphere. We were in for dinner on a Monday evening so it was fairly quiet. I had a steak which was cooked well (rare) but was pretty chewy. The potato gratin was lacking seasoning. Well priced, good service but just average food.

TERRIBLE SERVICE!!!!

By Brooklyn F |

Went to Portland for the weekend for a girls night . The girls decided to go to this place so I went .we were seated at about 10:03 pm . Waiter got our drinks and was about to take our order for food, when she realized we were not 21 . She then said we had to leave ? I was in shock at the fact I was just asked to leave a restaurant after I was seated by a waiter and the waiter had taken our drink orders. Us girls dressed for an amazing night we had high heels on and our dresses . People all around us enjoying they're night. The waiter had then once again asked us to leave after we had asked what the problem was . She then told us it was because they can't serve minors after 10 Pm witch is fine I understand they were just trying to follow the rules and law. But I was SO disappointed I asked to speak to the manager because not only was it only 10:06 by that time but the WAITER at the front door already seated us and she had brought us drinks then we were asked to leave . The manager who was VERY new,2 weeks new . VERY rude he couldn't even direct us to another restaurant where we could ATLEAST enjoy our selfs. By that time everybody around us was shocked as well and couldn't stop staring . HOW UNPROFFESIONAL I will NEVER go to another one of these establishment EVER again . Us girls got up in shame and embarrassment & had to leave . I have never ever felt like that at any other restaurant I have been too ! I am disturbed at the fact that the man at the front door did not ask for ID's cause if he would of this situation would not have occurred . He wilingly seated us like everything was fine I think that's why us girls were so shocked . Terrible service terrible waiters . Did not even get to taste the food . Such a shame corporate needs to check on that place . Thank you

OK Not Great

Ordered from happy hour menu. Bacon macaroni and cheese wad pretty good. Husband had garden salad and it was limp. He wanted soup but they only have one choice on Sundays. Asked for bread and got a 1/4" thick slice of sour dough toasted and cut in half. No butter. Were charged $2.95

Great happy hour

By Maps18631 |

They have extended hours for happy hour longer than other restaurants and their happy hour menu is extensive too. Lots of families with little kids as well as groups of adults are taking advantage of this. Space is big and the feel is comfortable. Great cocktails and a variety of menu items (pizza, burger, taco, calzone, salads, etc etc) to order from. For those of you who like beets, their beet salad is ammmmmazing.

Great late lunch and friendly bar service

By KarenH302 |

When in Rome....we stopped here for a late lunch and a beer. We went with the bartender's recommendation on the beer and it was great. Food was great. Portions are generous. The bartender was so friendly offering us advice on the city and telling us some history of the city. Stop by while in the Pearl district.

Only Average

By SKPeterson |

My wife and I went with two other couples for Portland Dine-Out Month. Salad/entree/dessert for $29. I had the Cajun Prawn Mac and Cheese. Good flavor. Nice portion size. It came to my table fresh and hot. The tails had been left on the prawns, so I had to cut them off. In addition, during the cooking, some of the little tail fins had come off, and I "found" them while eating. Regular price for this dish is $19.95 (maybe that was their "special...I'm not sure), but I thought it was a little over-priced. With my salad and dessert, the $29 special price for Portland Dine-Out month was a fair savings. My wife had the regular "Bacon Mac and Cheese" on the same $29 deal price. Hers WAS NOT a fair deal. The portion size was considerably smaller than mine. We both had the "Backyard Margarita", and they were pretty good. Lots of beer on tap. Service was pretty good, considering it was very busy. My primary complaint, and I've read this in other reviews on this site, is that it was VERY loud, and it was difficult to have a conversation without shouting.

Happy Hour before a Play

By annestone23 |

Great spot for happy hour because they end later than most. I had the ribs and a Saks and a blackberry gimlet. All tasty! Lively but not defening. If you park halfway in between it works great before a show at the Gerding theater!

Pleasant Sunday Brunch

By djvdw |

An early brunch during a trip to Portland found us at Brix Tavern. We very much enjoyed the complimentary donuts delivered to the table. Coffee was delicious. My husband had the world's biggest portion of French toast stuffed with caramelized banana cream with caramel on top. If it sounds really sweet, it was. I had a vegetarian eggs benedict (heirloom tomato, avocado, on corn cakes) with scarcely any hollandaise. The space was nicely designed but could have used a few less TVs. It was a nice brunch, but I am not sure that I would return if I were to find myself back in Portland.

We had a after Christmas gathering for my husbands work. The Brix has a nice back room perfect for a small to medium group. Informal and a relaxed setting. The food arrived quickly for a good sized group. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered. The food was delicious. I would recommend the Brix and would defiantly go back.

Try out your luck in Portland

By NVP04 |

It's a good sports bar for the young crowd, but I still enjoyed their burger. It's tasty, their fries were good too, with green onions sprinkled on top (nice touch). The best part we like about this place was if they flip a coin, and we call it right, we'd get the meal for free, if you start and finish your order between 9pm-10pm, not sure about what day of the week, that is. It did happen to us, we didn't have to pay for the meal, just had to leave some tips! How can you beat that?

great option for happy hour and business meeting in the Pearl

By Mark T |

Brix Tavern is a great option for happy hour and business meeting in the Pearl. I was there for happy hour and a mid-afternoon business meeting . the back meeting room is a nice option for business meetings but a little cramped. TV was not operational; for presentations. The Calamari was very good. service was attentive. wide varied menu

Excellent Lunch

By April |

Had lunch with another couple today. Fast and friendly service with no problem asking for separate checks for each couple. Great wine and beer selection too . Running a special in January on their "bubbly." Yum. Food was hot and plenty of it. Took a doggy bag home. Would go back again in a heartbeat. Would like to try their happy hour. Looks fantastic.

Great food, great service

By Mia P |

This was a really nice surprise. I was there for Sunday brunch which is available 9:30am to 3pm. The atmosphere was nice. It had an urban feel to it with exposed bricks and air ducts. There are also tvs placed through out. They have two private rooms you can use if you have a large party. One is in the back of the with a long table. The other is up stairs in a loft that overlooks the restaurant. It has a large sectional and additional comfy chairs. There are also 2 coffee tables and a tv. I was told it's $250 to reserve this section. As part of the brunch you can enjoy unlimited mimosas for $9 and trust me they keep the glass full. They also have a wide range of food to choose from such as chicken and waffles, country fried chicken and eggs and also chicken and waffles to name a few. I had the rock shrimp and dungeness crap omelette with a bowl of fruit on the side instead of hash browns. IT WAS AMAZING! Everyone else in my party loved their food as well. Food prices range from $8.95 to $15.95. They have great portion sizes. The service was great and they also offer amazing donuts on the house for guests. I really enjoyed dining there and will definately be back!

Great selection, great food

By Joe J |

Brix did not seem as "happening" as some of the other restaurants nearby, but the selection on the menu was much better than the other places we stopped in to, and the food was fantastic. Good selection of items that were veggie friendly, as well as meat and seafood dishes. Recommended!

Nice local food

By rocket7893 |

The quality, service and price of the restaurant are why there is almost always a line. Get there early!

Nice atmosphere, good food, great service.

Enjoyed or meal here. Great people watching. Brunch was a nice menu. Had chicken with gravy that was really good. Will go back.

What a great place

By Mr. H. |

We stopped in for a quick bite. The food was amazing and the staff so friendly and accomadating. We ordered the chicken panini to split and they split the sandwich and salad perfectly see photo. And the garlic rolls are to die for

Yep.. it is a Tavern...

By BeerBackwash |

Nice interior. I ate at the bar, ordered the Chanterelle mushroom and bacon pizza, and the "chicken fried chicken". The pizza crust was a little undercooked, and there were no Chanterelle mushrooms to be seen, only Oyster mushrooms (which are not wild-they are grown by humans), and much cheaper, and much less tasty....false advertising! As a retired (or retarded) chef, I certainly do understand food-cost vs. fooling the general public with fancy words to get more or their money! But, they did redeem themselves with the chicken-fried-chicken...I almost never order chicken at restaurants because it's boring as hell, much more tasty animals to eat than chicken...but, I admit, this was good! Served with mash, summer squash succotash, and cream gravy. The big question: Would I go back here to eat? No.

Not so good this time

By canmarto |

We introduced Brix to some new friends. Things started off very badly. Before dinner we visited the restrooms. The men's room was in especially poor condition, torn paper towels all over the wet floors and the room was dirty and smelly Our guests didn't enjoy the food. But, the stuff was great.

Great happy hour deals, even on Saturday!!

By Tami G |

Ate here before the symphony. Liked that you can make reservations if you have a certain amount of time to eat. No guessing on how long the wait will be. We were very surprised to find it to be happy hour on Saturday. The cocktails were DELICIOUS and $4 off so of course I had to have a couple! Sampled fondue to start which was flavorful and enough for three people to share. Had a nice smokey flavor. Brussel sprouts were cooked well and very flavorful. Steak bites with wilted green salad for $9? I would get this every time! Friend bought coconut shrimp, 5 for $9. Husband had the veggie burger, also on HH. Very flavorful and seemed to be made in house, not a frozen pre-made patty. Finished our night with the vanilla cheesecake with blackberry coulis. Everything was delicious and service was wonderful. I would recommend Brix Tavern as a great place to start, or finish your night!!

Casual, family and friends dining

By DC5Star |

After reviewing many choices in the Pearl District, my growth children and friends decided to head over to Brix for dinner. Without reservations on the Saturday before Halloween, we were seated within 45 minutes. Great timing, given we were waiting for friends to arrive from Seattle. Had a couple of interesting cocktails prior to dinner and table was ready before we realized. Dinners ranged from meatloaf, fried chicken, chicken pot pie, rotisserie chicken and a hamburger. All guests were digging in and expressed their satisfaction with their meals. Delicious and plentiful!! So plentiful that dessert was not an option.... Overall, very pleased with the food, atmosphere and great service provided by Julia. Highly recommended!!

Amazing food

Thank You for such a wonderful dining experience. My eggs pork Benedict/ corn bread were scrumptious and the shrimp/ grits were heavenly. The space is very welcoming and the staff were very attentive❗️HUGE thanks JORDAN SO much for making this new discovery a memorable one

Great Food and Attentive Service

By DewPortland |

This was our first time to visit Brix. We had a party of 6, some of whom discovered the outstanding chicken pot pie as well as breakfast skillets. All were very tasty and the potions generous. It’s a little noisy but we were able to carry on a conversation. Food came out promptly and hit The crowning event was the unexpected extra of fresh donuts with raspberry and chocolate topping. Super YUM!!!

Decent

By E S |

The food at Brix was pretty good - we shared the Italian White Pizza and the Turkey Reuben, my husband also got a Tomato Basil Soup. The soup was delicious, even on a hot day. The pizza was good, but could have been better; the prosciutto seemed to just be thrown on top rather than baked on so it wasn't at all crispy. The Reuben was also good, but despite the unique ingredients, not much more than a traditional Reuben. Brix seems like they're trying to be fancier than they are and the prices reflect the "fancy" ingredient lists more than the bar food quality. It seems like, as other reviewers have said, at Happy Hour pricing we would have been completely satisfied, but at dinner pricing it was a bit underwhelming.

Service and Food Miserable

By Oakleaf1950 |

The B Team must have been on duty when we arrived at 1:00 pm for a late lunch. The place had 4 tables of diners. The server had to be flagged down in order to take our order even though we (grandparents and parents) had 2 well-behaved but hungry children with us. When asked for more napkins when the over-cheesed pizzas arrived, she brought us cocktail napkins instead of the much-needed cloth ones. She was a bit curt and quite insincere when I told her privately (after everyone at the table but me) had left that using two heels of dry bread for a panini wasn’t a good idea. This meal ( the chicken panini tasted like the grill hadn’t been cleaned of its previous grease and had semi-cooked bacon in it) was lousy. The soup was salty. Did the cook use a real piece of cheddar cheese or spreadable Kraft? Portland May be a food Mecca but Blix is to be avoided if possible. Of the 115 reviews I have written in the last 8 years, this might be the worst restaurant I have ever dined at when combining food taste and value with inattentive and cold service.

Nice menu and Good Vibe

By Dedi S |

Met for HH with my daughter, her boyfriend and other friends. Loved the menu. Doesn't feel like a tavern. Hosts were accomodating for my dying cell phone and allowed me to charge. Definitely recommend!

Dinner with family

By Julie s |

We were there for dinner with about 20 people. Never been before. The service started out good, until our food came. Things we ordered extra on your food, never got, after twice asking for them. But we were charged for them, but they took them off. Our food was cold and just total chaos ! We had to ask and ask for your ticket and then wait for it to be fixed over and over. Very loud restaurant! Not impressed and won’t be back.

Great meal - very fresh full of flavor!

By KalinaKalina |

Great meal - very fresh and flavorful! Staff was very accommodating to our dietary needs - Gluten and Sugar free. Loved our burger and salad!

Brunch with my daughter

By barrythebeta |

Sunday morning for brunch. Where should we go? It was 10:30 and there were a ton of options. We decided on Brix as my daughter had just moved to the Pearl and Brix was within walking distance. It also had many large TV's conducive to watching Sunday morning NFL games or having a more formal brunch. The food was excellent, with very large portions, and very moderate prices especially when you consider it is in the Pearl. Also as a surprise, at the time of the order they brought out homemade donuts to go with our coffee. I was impressed and plan to do another brunch there in the future.

Great food

By Dgs |

We went here after a long day of traveling. The food was amazing and the staff was great. Our waitress give us excellent recommendations.

All A's..... Except one C

By 7courselife |

We had reservations and were seated within minutes of arrival. Friendly and prompt staff. Relaxing setting. Nice size menu for a tavern with a fair variety including vegetarian options. Everyone enjoyed their entrees and desserts, but the salad/soup got mixed reviews. The beet salad was fantastic, the green salad was average, and the tomato basil soup had really good flavor, but large pieces of a dried herb stem in it. I would definitely go back, I'll just get the beet salad next time.

Portland dining month

By Tracy M |

Went here for the March dining month event. Chose this place because they had such a large selection to choose from that was participating in the event. I hade the Salmon w/ lemon risotto; amazing flavor. The risotto was more cheesy than lemon; but work well for the dish. For the appetizer I had the house salad w/ a citrus dressing and hazelnuts sprinkled on top. But the night would of not been complete without the dessert; if you go get the warm lemon, blueberry breadpudding. I am not a really big fan of lemon, however this was extremely appetizing. All in all a great place in the pearl district to go with a group of friends.

Wow!

By FamilyTripPlanner__9 |

What a cool vibe this place has. We arrived at 6:30 on a Tuesday night and were seated right away. They have seating outside and indoors. You will identify the place from the cool looking flaming lights on the brick building outside. Inside is very industrial yet somehow homey. Butcher block paper lines the tables and you are provided a cup w crayons if you get inspired to doodle. Our food came out fairly quickly. Our party of 4 got salmon, The East burger, fish, fried brussel sprouts, crab cakes and the calamari. Everything was prepared perfectly and tastes awesome. On Wednesday nights between 9-10 they "flip the tables". Every table gets a chance to have their bill paid for by the owner. He comes around and flips a coin. If you guess right, you pay nothing for food or drink. Insane. Makes me want to go back to try for a free night out. No limits or gimmicks. Totally free for picking heads or tails. We are definitely coming back to Brix next time in Portland.

Great when it's late

By Big Ted |

We arrived after 11:00 coming in from the airport. There were still a lot of people there, and as always in Portland, people watching is fun. They have a late night menu with many choices. The chicken pot pie and burger were very good and hit the spot after traveling all day. Lots of drinks and beers on tap. The tavern hooch (habanero infused tequila) was a perfect ending to a long day.

seafood is superb

By Teresa M |

had lunch today at brix before art in the pearl, which is always a treat...i had a coors light, and my partner had a stella artois...we split the cold seared prawns and the seared ahi tuna salad, and it was superb...yum....the staff is always friendly too...we sat outside since it was hot again in portland..the atmosphere is excellent....thx again...

Brunch!

By hmariecj |

Went here for a girl's brunch on a Saturday. They have bottomless mimosas for about $10, the servers walk around with pitchers of mimosas to keep them filled. The wait wasn't too bad either. We were served donuts before our meals came, it was such an nice surprise and definitely a sweet touch. I tried their waffle breakfast and it was great! They serve the eggs (whichever style you prefer) on top of the waffles. My friend tried their salmon benedict plate, it was SO good! The portions are plenty as well! Just be a little careful with how much you drink, sitting down you don't notice as much as you will once you stand up. This was a great spot for brunch and our server Hiadi? (Sorry for the misspelling) was really sweet!

A great place for lunch

By Tipton H |

Excellent food, great beer, and fine service. We enjoyed our lunch and would definitely goo back again!

Drinks, food and fun--

By shewholovestoeat |

Brix tavern is another good place to hang out, eat and imbibe. The group that owns this has several other fun places in town, including my fave, Bartini. Stopped in with a large group for happy hour. Good drinks, good food too. The staff was really nice, it was the nieces bachelorette party--and they accommodated us very well. Nice space, with the right amount of industrial chic. Go, hang out, and enjoy.

Noisy,Slow service, good food

By Ken |

We were here as part of a group of 9 for Sunday brunch, so I can chalk up some of the slowness to that; big groups can be difficult. We were seated quickly, but after that, things slowed down. It took a long time for the water to arrive and a longer time to take our order. Not having been there before I didn't know about the free doughnuts, so that was a pleasant surprise. I ordered a Bloody Mary and it was very good; strong with a nice little kick. I had the waffle with eggs and bacon and the bacon was crisp; the eggs not quite done as long as I would have liked, but still good. My wife had the prawn salad and the prawns were very good. Overall, I was pleased, but the service could have been faster. I wish I'd known about the bottomless mimosas though...

Horrible service

By Belinda W |

We came on a not so busy night. There was seating at the bar but there was a couple who was saving seats for someone who had not arrived. We waited a while and asked what the policy was for saving seats. We waited quite some time and the seats were still empty. The staff would not let us sit at the bar even though it was obvious that no one was showing up anytime soon. Very poor service. Don’t waste your time.

Happy hour kids?

By Jazzganggirl |

Loved the atmosphere and the food and the friendly staff, but I do not enjoy happy hour with baby strollers all around me.

Nice Place for Hanging Out but Food is Average

By frog1971 |

I joined a group for hanging out. It is a large place which can accommodate a group of a lot of people. That's the cool part. TVs on the walls to watch sports. Great! But don't expect good food: very fatty, average taste. I was very disappointed with the food... and... they keep dropping the salt shaker too! That was way too salty (unless this will get you to order more drinks). The place is noisy: so for a group, yes... a date... nah!

big portions and amazing service

By CateMilk |

I have loved Saturday brunch here. I took the shrimp omelette and non-stop mimosa! loved it. They didn't have espresso but the American coffee was fina anyway. I would recommend it for sure!

Got lucky for the Super Bowl

By Steve L |

Certainly glad I lucked into the Brix just before the start of the Super Bowl. Since I was in Portland for a conference. as a Philadelphian I definitely had to line up a good spot where I could spend the 4 hours it would last in a comfortable place. I'd left the slightly more famous bar around the corner which was already packed with exclusively under-30s and getting to SRO anyway. The Brix was very spacious and I managed to get a good seat at the bar in front of a huge screen. Nice selection of Oregon beers on tap. I only tried a couple of food items from the afternoon specials list but what I had was tasty. Not sure why the Brix uses a slightly sweet vinaigrette over their fried calamari though. (As an east-coaster I'm prejudiced toward either a spicy cold marinara or an interesting aioli.) The bar waitstaff was very friendly, and a special shout-out to my diligent and friendly server Carmen, who poured me a shot on the house at the end of the game since my Eagles had won! Worth going back to if I get to Portland again, for sure.

Lunch

By Lois M |

Had a very good lunch. Great beer list. Good wine list. Very good service. The tomato, basil, bacon soup was excellent. The calamari was average. It had something on that gave it a sweet taste and the calamari itself was a bit rubbery

Poor to little sevice

By dchriste2 |

Veronika G was our server on Sat September 22nd at 2:41 PM. We were greeted by a very sweet hostess and gladly waited for a booth to open up. We were seated and presented with the wonderful fresh donuts as usual. They were dropped off with no greeting so I thought she was just helping out the server, so we didn't think much about it. We ordered our food which arrived quickly because it was quiet at the time. Our waitress Veronika G never checked back at all to see if we needed anything. We did, however, notice that she was attentive to the male clientele all around us. We had to flag her down to get water etc. She never took away any of the plates we had finished or asked if we wanted anything else or needed anything before walking by and leaving the check at our table. She never checked on our table. We felt ignored and neglected. We come here frequently and have never experienced this kind of neglect before at Brix. We have a big event coming up and thought we would have brunch. Veronika G made us feel invisible! I know that Oba around the corner would be a much better place for our next big event.Perhaps, management she needs to be counseled on customer Service and manners! We tipped her 1 dollar for her efforts! If it were a busier restaurant at this time we could understand. When she picked up the check and the many plates we stacked she never thanked us for coming!!! Instead, she said, " THERE YOU GO!" in a very rude tone! We will ty this again another time and ske to be seated with anthor server!

Lucky find

By David C |

We lucked into this restaurant without researching ahead of time. Needless to say we were delighted with our food and beverages. The Pot pie is savory and unique, beet salad with salmon delicious and excellent drink selection. We would go again when back in town.

Disappointing

By Sue K |

Three of us went for the $33 deal for Portland Dining Month. A plus is that most of the large menu was available for the special deal (appetizer, entrée, dessert) and the server explained clearly which items would have an upcharge. Although our reservation was for three, there were only two glasses of water on the table. I (female) asked twice for another glass of water - the server said okay each time but never brought the water. When the male at the table asked, she brought it immediately. This may be a pattern at this restaurant - see other reviews noting the same attention to males. All of the staff appeared rushed, overwhelmed, and unhappy - no smiles, seemed annoyed with questions, food dropped off without comment. At one point the man who appeared to be the manager was standing directly behind me and shouted to someone "Just get them out of here!" in an angry unpleasant loud voice - made me jump, not conducive to relaxing dining at all. It took quite some time for our appetizers to come (which was fine as we were enjoying talking) and then our entrees came about three minutes later. One of us commented that we had barely started our appetizers and the server said "sorry, didn't want it to get cold" and walked off. They would have stayed warmer under their warming lights than sitting on our table. We ate the appetizers quickly so we could eat the entrees while still hot - not enjoyable. The food was okay - nothing special. Our desserts did come in a reasonable amount of time. One person at the table requested a box to take leftover food home, and the server scraped all the food into the box in one pile rather than keeping each item separate - not very appealing. The restaurant was very busy and there were several parties of 5 or more, but that doesn't excuse this poor service. We won't recommend this restaurant and won't be back.

Great Happy Hour

By bcz65 |

The specials are delicious and a great value. The cocktails were inexpensive and the service was great. We had a table on the sidewalk, which I recommend, on a lovely evening.

I had a great Happy Hour meal

I had a great Happy Hour meal at the bar last night. The price was right and the portion was good. Brix Tavern has a nice selection of everything to drink too! So, yes go to BT...

Decent brunch in a nice setting

By Tom B |

The menu is very tantalizing and tempting, so it was hard to finally decide. We ended up sharing a couple of dishes to try a couple of interesting-sounding meals, the southern benedict and the chicken fried chicken and eggs. They were both ok, though neither was something we'd consider ordering again; they sounded good on the menu description. We also had a strange experience waiting for our table. We headed to the bar to have drinks, having been told of a 30-45 minute wait. Our table was ready in 15 minutes, which was nice, but we were told they would wait while we settled our bar tab, instead of being able to move it to our table tab. Strange and not standard, but we paid our bar billl and brought our drinks to our table ourselves. Hmm. After we asked for our brunch bill, our waitress told us she checked to make sure our bar tab was paid and not brought over to the table, so it wasn't included in our final bill. Since we weren't given the choice of moving our bar tab over, this seemed confusing and inconvenient at best, and seemingly suspicious at worst. The restaurant was very big and well lit, and had a nice ambiance. There was a room at the back that could hold a private party, and a small upstairs balcony area for a smaller private seating.

Went here for dinner while in Portland on vacation. Pearl District neighborhood is fun and worth a visit. Brix Tavern is exactly the kind of place I was expecting in this area. Good food, drinks and worth a visit.

Great place to meet friends

By Stammre |

We meet others couples here and this was the first time for all of us. The food that we all ordered was very good and the beer selection was fantastic. They have a good selection of food on the menu so everyone was happy with there choice. The service was excellent and I wish I had our server name so I could give her some kudos here but I just can't remember her name. I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 because with a party of 8 this place gets very busy and with the noise it's hard to talk with everyone in your party. Will be back again.

very average

By Lauren K |

went for Portland Dining Month. The good thing is, unlike most other restaurants, almost the entire menu is available. A few items have an upcharge so be careful. The burger was very mediocre, the fries were crunch and good, salad was average, dessert was not very good (bread pudding was soggy and pasty). The service was good. Place is basically a glorified sports bar so we were surrounded by 10 TVs just near our tables. Noisy.

Very Good Portland eatery

By berniet |

Well decorated, older Portland building with good food and service. The red pepper and white bean burger is outstanding- salads and drinks were top drawer.

Great Atmosphere, Great Food!

By Seabreeze48 |

Great find in the Pearl. We were looking for a new place to get a quick meal before a show, and this gem was perfect. We were the first party seated in the restaurant, and it filled during our meal. Even though the restaurant was full, we were able to converse easily without shouting during. We ordered from the Happy Hour menu as well as the main dinner menu. Great beer selection fit the bill, and we enjoyed salads, a cheeseburger, a bean burger, a 1/2 chicken, and chicken tacos. The food was served quickly and was delicious. We will return here again.

Could be much better specially considering the competition around

By paulo s |

My most remarkable memory was the awful and loud music during the lunch. Ok, taste for music is a very personal thing, but unless you are a teenager and has Call me Maybe on your list of best songs, you will agree with me. I went to the hostess to ask if it was possible to change and turn down the music. She said she would find the person who could do something about it, but nothing happened. The food was not good, not bad. I don't recommend.

New year day brunch

By scott a |

Ordered fried chicken with eggs & hash browns. Hash browns were room temperature and bland. My chicken was “chicken fried steak” with tasteless gravy. Waitress was fine, good viewing of TV’s, but can now say “I have been there “, will not be coming back though. I was unfortunately disappointed in the experience.

OUR FIRST VISIT TO BRIX

By Tennis011 |

Great atmosphere, food, staff. Very fast service, tasty food. Halibut&Tots, pizza, gin tonic, desserts, everything was perfect. Great location also. This was our first visit to celebrate Birthday, and we were so happy to pick a such nice hidden gem in PDX!

New find

By License697 |

We were in Portland to visit family and we dined at Brix one evening. What a great gathering place. You know it's good when you have to wait for a table at 5 pm. Since there were seven of us there was a variety of food orders all enjoyed their meals. There was plenty of food for each. The only complaint was the grilled salmon was very dry. Suggest that if you have salmon ask if they will steam or poach it. We will go again.

Happy hour

By LEH |

Brix Chips! Happy hour menu was extensive, beer tasty, good cocktails, friendly knowledgeable server.

fun

By Teresa M |

we returned to brix with friends before art in the pearl....i had the mixed salad, and my partner had the quinoa salad and 2 scrambled eggs...our friends had coffee and shared a veggie omelet/hash browns...free donuts too...the food was delicious, the atmosphere great, and the staff excellent....

Very nice dinner

By Travel Bug |

We found the perfect spot for dinner!! We were looking for a somewhat casual place to enjoy dinner outside. Tavern is a bit misleading. They do have beer and casual food - and the restaurant is far more upscale than “tavern” implies. The outside seating is along a tree lined street and is not a major thoroughfare. It was ideal for an intimate dinner for two. Our server, was marvelous! She totally knew her beers and led us to the perfect choice. She was also very knowledgeable about the menu choices and again steered us well! The crab and shrimp cakes were awesome! We will certainly go back!

yummy and fun

By Teresa M |

we returned to brix with friends, all masked up, prior to attending the art in the pearl...we sat outdoors and enjoyed the relaxing area...my partner and i each had a bubbly forever mimosas, and our friends had coffee and juice...next she and i shared the quinoa salad and rock shrimp/dungeness crab omelette, sub fruit...the staff is so nice and quick...the food is superb..also noted are the free donuts prior to the rest..be sure to tip big during the pandemic....thx so much!

Bottomless mimosas at brunch!

By Kristen D |

Came here for Sunday brunch, and will come back every time I’m in Portland! The bottomless mimosas were a no-brainer; and they were fully leaded, which I wasn’t expecting from a bottomless drink. Service was fast and friendly, and the food was delicious. We had the salmon eggs Benedict and mushroom & Brie omelette. Eggs were cooked perfectly. The space is bright and homey. I love seeing trees right outside in the middle of downtown. He prices were actually really reasonable, especially considering everything we got (have I mentioned bottomless mimosas?!) Make sure you get a reservation for brunch so you can get right in to your fruity bubbly.

good place to start your trip and people watch eating outside

By Sue D |

When going to Portland you will hear alot about how great their donuts are - especially voodoo doughnuts. We are not much on doughnuts, but were offered complimentary donuts with our meal here. They were by far the best donuts we have ever had. The food and beverages were very good also. After having doughnuts here we decided to go to Voodoo and see how great they were. We were very disappointed!!! So if you want to have a great doughnut and great food and atmosphere, along with being able to sit down and have an alcoholic beverage Brix is the place to be.

prawns, yum

By Teresa M |

we returned for lunch yesterday before art in the pearl...i had a pbr, and my partner had a mimosa....we shared the grilled prawn salad, which was delicious...the restaurant also gave out complimentary homemade donuts, which she loved...the bartender was great too...thx

Yummy!

By Lara / ProsperityPassenger |

This is a secret gem in Old Town. We had the Trio of Beef (shared). It was delicious and perfectly cooked. marinated flat iron . rib eye . new york steaks. Also, you must try to mac n cheese with the truffle oil. Yum!

Great place to meet friends!

By CruisenFamily |

Great place - huge - lots of seating inside and out. Drinks and food are really good! Get the Mac and Cheese and the Beet salad - YUM!! Waitstaff is efficient and friendly. We learned about the GROWLER - you'll have to ask.

Friendly and attentive service

By MeAgain8 |

There are so many great restaurants in the Pearl, it can be hard to choose, but Brix is one that I find my self returning to time and again. My most recent visit was for lunch with a friend. We both loved the large selection of salads and paninis. The food took a little longer than usual to come out, but our server checked in with us frequently. The restaurant appears small from the street, but once inside you find vaulted ceilings, window seating (the best seats in my opinion) and floor to ceiling bar. Keep up the great work!

big prawns

By Teresa M |

we wanted to try brix before art in the pearl yesterday...great cold seared prawns, a pbr, and a backyard margarita...great staff, and the prawns were delectable....thx so much...neat inside too...

Excellent

By Stephen K |

Had a business lunch here. It was very good. I had the prime rib/ philly cheese steak. Served on a baguette with au jus. Thought about the pizza, they have a brick oven. However, they were full pies vs a personal pizza. This was a good spot & would come again.

Great Pizza, Semi-Good Service

By TheGrizzwaldsCO |

Our hotel suggested this place as it was just a few blocks away. It was a Thursday night around 8. Service was good with the exception of when we needed our check to pay (which took FOREVER, then a long time after she finally came to get our payment). We were in Portland for a week and this happened at nearly ever restaurant we visited. Service is very laid back so if you're in a hurry you're in trouble. Food was great though. We both had the house salad with hazelnuts and cranberries. Ordered pizza which was awesome, very good crust.

Enjoyed out time!

By Juanita D |

We really enjoyed our seats out on the deck with the view. The food was excellent and service was great! Even took a run through the fountains after! :-)

Great gathering place

By Jim c |

Several families met here and the staff had everything arranged as agreed. Serving staff could not have been more friendly, knowledgeable or prompt. The food was upscale, innovative pub/bistro fare. The prices were most reasonable and parking was half a block away.

Great Food! Great Service!

By Dale W |

Staff was incredibly friendly! Carly (sp) was incredibly nice and accommodating for my family. Their menu was very broad and had a little bit of everything for anyone with any particular need. I don't pay much attention to the gluten free thing since no one in my family has a gluten allergy, but I'm sure they have something for that too. The atmosphere is a modern take on a classic tavern style restaurant and they do it perfectly. Thanks to Brix for being so accommodating and friendly. Will definitely have to go back to try more of their food.

Great food...but we were freezing!

By Shelley P |

When we arrived for our reservation, we specifically told the host we were concerned about being cold and he assured us we wouldn't feel the cold even seated near the window. He was wrong. Our food was tasty, but it got very cold very fast because of the proximity to the window. I'd come back, but I would specifically ask to be seated away from the window unless I was dining there during the summer months.

Nice spot to people watch and the food was really good

By CountryclubNan |

This place is fun...and they serve a good breakfast. I love to people watch and we could do this from our great seat by the window.

Very good food, but don't go late (its turns into a loud bar)

By tfizzle |

Had a fabulous and perfectly cooked piece of salmon with lemon risotto, one of the best dishes I have had in a long time. My salad was also well prepared and my chocolate brownie with caramel ice cream was also perfect. My only issue is that we went about 8:30 on a saturday night and it had started to turn into a bar and the crowd was exceedingly loud. So go early for a good meal.

Great appetizers!

By chasetravelbug |

We stopped in for a late night drink and snack and were very happy with the food. Service was average but food was so tasty it didn't matter. We ordered the skillet mac&cheese, tacos, fondue and calamari. Besides the calamari coming our cold, the rest of the food was so good! Glad we stopped in...

Lively environment!

By Rob L |

My family met up with a few friends for St. Patrick's Day. Brix Tavern had a lively atmosphere and delicious food. The wait staff was friendly and accommodating for our 5 year old son. Overall we had a pleasant experience.

Great spot for a late lunch

By Michael A |

We stopped in here on a late afternoon . We were well taken of by Jennifer who had great food and beer recommendations. The Calamari we had here was some of the best we've had. My panini sandwich was perfectly grilled and the accompanying tater tots were wonderful. My wife's Caprese salad was solid as well. We can't wait to come back for dinner

Flavorful, Fast Lunch

By KC W |

We stopped into Brix tavern recently for lunch. It's quite a spacious place once you get in, with exposed brick walls and wood surfaces - feels warm and inviting. We expected a large lunch crowd (arriving around 11:45a on a Friday) but the restaurant was about half-full. Seeing that it was open seating, we chose a booth and our server (Arielle) approached with a smile and our menus. Surveying the great selection of beers, we chose the PT Session and the PT Boneyard, both of which were quite good; and frosty cold from the keg. The lunch menu looks like it's built around business lunch-types, items that can be turned around quickly for those without a lot of time - which I would definitely appreciate if I worked in the area. I ordered the Chicken Panini, with a side of the tomato bacon soup. The panini was perfectly done, with tender chicken and a great grilled crust on the bread. The tomato bacon soup was excellent, layered with complex flavors - just so enjoyable. My spouse ordered the Reuben, which he said was absolutely delicious. We were very pleased with the food and the service and highly recommend Brix Tavern!

Best Happy Hour Specials

By Constantine J |

This is on of my favorite spots!! It is consistently good and you can always count on a good meal no matter whether it is breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner!! Each menu offering is jam packed with flavor and you truly can't go wrong. Brunch has to be one of the highlights can you say bottomless mimosas!?!?! So so so good! Their bennys are out of this world too! Haven't tried it out for lunch yet but am definitely looking forward to it. Everyday of the week they have a different theme. For example, Wednesday is flip night. You get to flip a coin for a cheaper drink. Sunday night is Happy Hour pricing ALL NIGHT LONG. Our most recent visit we had the calamari, tachos and chicken tacos. Each so unique with flavor leaving you asking for more. Brix also has one of my favorite drinks in Portland, the Zesty Mango packs a punch with some spice but is so tasty. Right in downtown pearl area, it is easy to walk around and explore before or after your meal. They always have football events going on as well so there are plenty of reasons to give it a visit! Go check em out, you won't be disappointed!!

Nice Place in Old Town

By Dick L |

Meeting our monthly dining partners at the Brix Tavern turned out to be a very nice experience. The atmosphere of the bar/restaurant is very open and has a great atmosphere. Crowded though it was we were able to have a normal conversation at our table. The wait staff was efficient and friendly and the menu was filled with a great many choices for appetizers and main dishes. The wine list was ample and the beers were also. My wife had the chicken pot pie, very large and tasty, and I had the chicken fried chicken breast. Both were large servings and very good. This is a great place and we will return.

Great food for Brunch or dinner

By Brad |

This is a great place to take a date or just a friend. Enjoy the food, atmosphere and get taken care of by their fantastic staff. If you have not been here then please put it on your todo list. It will be well worth your time.

happy hour

By draePDX |

Great service! My friend, with whom I dine frequently, always asks many detailed questions about what's on the menu. Our wait person was patient and informative about the menu and brought samples of many of the sauces. The cocktail menu is extensive and inventive and mine was tasty! (I had two). The serving size was generous and some of the choices unusual. My friend had tuna done to rare perfection. I had buffalo wings and was served several of the tasty dipping sauces when I couldn't choose the one. Finally the dessert we split was chocolate on chocolate on chocolate. ALMOST too rich for my taste.......almost.

Very Good

By rudy zee |

Was very good. The Brix Tavern chips are great, as well as the burgers salads and pizza. Have eaten there 3 times so we must like it. One time the service was eh and one in our party did not like the macaroni and cheese but everything else about the place is great.

Dinner for two

By KristinFilut |

My son and I had dinner at Brix while we were in Portland visiting colleges as a recommendation of a friend. The beer selection was vast, and there was a nice mix of beers only available in the area, as well as nationally. We were there early enough to have dinner off the happy hour menu, and it was fantastic! Portions were good, not huge, and the food was well prepared. Service was great, too! If we lived in the area, we'd definitely be back!

Great Time with Friends!

By Shirazi35 |

Last evening we went to Brix with our friends and spent close to 4.5 hours there. Our night started with their exotic and unique drinks followed by amazing and tasty Brix Chips for appetizer. OMG, the roasted pork shoulder with baked cheddar along with cilantro dip was an amazing choice. For the main entree we chose Trio Beef, which is enough for 3 persons. This dish was also great. Our friend chose Grilled Salmon and Halibut and Prawns. Those two dishes were also very tasty! Quality of Service and the Ambience were great! The drawbacks at Brix Tavern are the level of noise and dessert menu! Having said that I can not believe the way we insisted to carry out real conversation for 4 hours! We also had our desserts there; because none of us felt going to another place for dessert! We are looking forward to our next trip to Brix!

Privare Party

By NnmnG |

Sight unseen, based on Trip Advisor and other sites, I booked Brix Tavern for my wife's birthday party. Samantha, who handles catering, was very pleasant and easy to work with. We had 33 guests, including four children, ages, 3-7, The menu included appetizers, flat-iron steak, salmon and scalloped potatoes. We also provided a hosted bar. Since our group was larger than could be confined to their private room, Brix "cut out" a space for us in the general dining area and though there were other diners surrounding our space, all the activity just added to the liveliness of our party. The food, the service and the vibe were just terrific. I have to hand it to Brix. They delivered on everything they promised and I very highly recommend this venue for drinking, dining, or private partying.

They tried to ruin out night.........

By X4607SOmichaelc |

......fortunately, it was my son's college graduation, so nothing could ruin it, but they tried. I have had dinner here before, two of us, had pizza, it was OK to good. But this is not a place for a large group (18 of us, and we told them a month or more ahead of time). And certainly do not order the prime rib here. I could go on, but as long as you follow those two pieces of advice, it may not be so bad.

Dinner in Whiskey Room

By darrell w |

I hosted a dinner for twelve in the private room. Evening was planned by Samantha Surlow, Events Coordinator, who did an excellent job. Menu was well planned, wines were reasonably priced and highly rated by guests. Service superb!!!!! Bar/restaurant were crowded and noisy but private room was comfortable and quiet so good conversations started with cocktails and continued thru dessert. Would definitely consider returning (often).

Good food and beer

By jinnes |

This restaurant has a large menu, dominated by comfort food such as mac and cheese and chicken pot pie. It has a rnage of tap and bottled beer. It has a modern atmosphere - quite noisy and bright. Service was good.

Great venue, great staff, OK food

By JoelSauer |

My colleague and I had dinner here together so had four different items between us. Each was just pretty OK in terms of taste which is why the overall three stars. I had the crab cakes which by the description should have been spectacular. Instead it was a deep fried cake with little flavor. It was served with mashed potatoes which were also OK, but an unlikely pairing and didn't deliver. The veggies were the tastiest part. My colleague had risotto and she too felt like it was just OK. On the bright side, the staff was very attentive and excellent, the ambiance very nice and the venue a really cool old converted warehouse. I had a local IPA brew that was delicious and found the beer choices excellent. In summary, I don't begrudge the 4-star rating Tripadvisor is giving it overall, but because of the food I just can't get that high up. It's important to note that was my first time there so my sample size is one!!

Great place for brunch

By High Standards |

Surprisingly spacious inside with no waiting. Menu is Northwestern inspired. Price was good. ESPN playing on the TV seemed out of place (Wasn't billed as a sports bar) but still was fun, with decent service. Didn't feel rushed at all.

A great pub

By Christopher J |

We were heading to Oregon wine country for Thanksgiving we stopped in Portland for lunch. This place had a great atmosphere and super wait staff. I ordered the burger and it was fantastic. They had some great IPAs on tap and I was in heaven.

Great food, drinks, beer, service in downtown Portland

By Rhett L |

I really liked the menu choices (try the mac n' cheese), beer selection, craft cocktails, and efficient service in this Portland cool vibe restaurant in Pearl district, downtown Portland. You can bring large groups here and they do have an upstairs loft you can rent out for private parties.

Pre-Theater Dinner

By PapaJRT |

Two couples at 5:30 pm dinner had interesting drinks, and excellent dinners of chicken pot pie, Mac & cheese with truffle oil, shrimp & crab cakes. Was able to substitute Mac & cheese with thick pieces of bacon, delicious. Super desserts. Great service and special prices during Portland's Restaurant Month.

Comfort food

By Jason P |

Brix isn't the best restaurant in the Portland, or even the Pearl. What Brix does offer, however, are hearty portions and an vibrant atmosphere for large groups. Brix does holiday dinners when most other restaurants are closed. It wouldn't be my first choice on most nights, but I would recommend it any night.

A great happy hour!

By sexybaby7399 |

We started our year off with a trip to an old standby, The Brix, for their outstanding Happy Hour that runs from 3 to 6 weekdays and, I believe, all day on Sunday. They have great prices on well drinks and beers and their specialty cocktails including a blood orange margarita, a blackberry gimlet and rum drinks. One of their specialties is brix chips which includes pulled pork and corn chips and their burgers and chicken are also good. They have a great Sunday brunch that is reasonable also and their ribs and other pork dishes are not to be missed. You can’t go wrong for a happy hour that will stretch your entertainment dollar and their customer service is always the best! Very highly recommended!

Not sure

By Mari Clem S |

Its okay... nothing special. Food is not bad.Came here for breakfast the day after New Years and it was packed. I would suggest making reservations prior.

Great comfort food with a twist

By Jan S |

Located in the "Pear district" what a great find. Very funky and urban in an old brick warehouse. Food had a twist with bacon and cheese on their fries and their drinks were really tasty. I'll definitely go back the next time I'm in Portland.

Prioritize Reservations

By julieann243218 |

Made a reservation and it took them more than 20 minutes after my reserved time to seat me. There were empty tables. Funny thing was, they ended up seating me in a table that had been empty since I walked in the door! The host was not prioritizing reservations and was seating people off the street. It was frustrating, as I had to be at a cooking class down the road. Barely made it. Food was good as always, as was service.

Good quality food!

By Mraschio |

We stopped in for lunch the other day. It was kinda of slow and the service was Ok. The prime rib sandwich was really good. The horseradish sauce could use a little more kick. The wife went for the bacon Mac and cheese and it was good just really heavy. I thought the clam chowder was very tasty. A little spendy but then again it is the Pearl district.

Comfortable surroundings

By ChicoRanMan |

A very nice play for a meal or drinks. Service was a little slow but if you’re not in a hurry it’s a decent place. Not too loud. Friendly waiter.

Hangover Brunch in FULL Effect!

By HappyHourQueen |

ALMOND BROWN SUGAR CRUSTED & STUFFED FRENCH TOAST: This candied syrupy goodness will fix any sugar cravings you may need to cure. FIRST OF ALL, it's huge AF! It's like a small loaf of bread with the middle carved out and then stuffed with a sweet banana and caramel custard. The custard is more of a thick yogurt texture, reminded me of gelato. It was really tasty! The bread itself tasted as if it was mildly fried and then drizzled with caramel, thinly sliced almonds and powdered sugar. You will definitely need both a knife and a fork. You have to cut through the lightly crusted outside and as your fork sinks through the dough the bread becomes lighter and fluffier toward the middle. Once you hit the custard, break a piece away with your fork, bring fork to your mouth...okay, you know how it goes..you know what to do! I also swirled every bite into the caramel glaze that was on the plate. Now, I must warn you, this is a VERY sweet entree. If you do not like sweet things for breakfast or just in general, this isn't the brunch item for you. To offset the sweetness, I ordered a side of bacon to go with it which made for a savory combination.  APPLEWOOD SMOKED SALMON BENEDICT: For those of you who love your over-easy eggs, this is perfect meal for you! For those of you that do not like runny eggs, it's still a great option because the  poached egg is placed on a polenta patty which seeps into it really nicely versus the traditional English Muffin. In the words of my counterpart that joined me for brunch that day, "The salmon was fresh and well-seasoned and the over easy eggs was better with the polenta than the usual muffin because it soaked up some of the gooey yolk". We did both agree upon the fact that although I like hash browns, substituting them for regular roasted garlic red potatoes would have made for a better combination. I highly recommend the above entrees and the following: -Brix Skillet -Rock Shrimp & Dungeness Crab Omelette  -Apple Jack Pancake ***Bottomless mimosas for $9 A few TIPS: -For brunch in particular, make reservations! This is a weekend brunch hot spot. -Arrive in the area a good 15 minutes before because it is very likely you will spend that much time trying to find a parking spot! -The parking meter on Sundays start at 1PM. If you do not want to pay, schedule your brunch at 11AM or before.  -They have a bar if all else fails. Side note: They also have Happy Hours ALL day on Monday! During the football season they raffle off prizes. The first raffle ticket is FREE!

Great food and lots of energy

By David M |

Visited Brix last night with the family. I really enjoy this restaurant. The food is always good and the service is fast and friendly. Try the Brix nacho’s which are one of my favorites.

More than a sports bar

By Daytripper |

My colleagues and I were looking for a place to have dinner and watch the World Series at the same time. Brix seemed to fit the bill. We figured it would be basically pub /sports bar food: burgers, fires, flat breads, etc. but the food is much higher end than that. Really good menu, not overly expensive but very nicely prepared with generous portions. Oh yea, good place to watch sports too.

Very good choice in Portland

By Sixgill |

We arrived on a Sunday morning with a 9:30 AM reservation (it opened at 9:30) and we were promptly seated and attentively served. Parking in the area is a challenge, but our patience was rewarded as a motorist vacated a space. We were promptly greeted, seated and provided with a bottomless Mimosa. I devoured my apple pancake, warm doughnut, and cups of good coffee. All at our table of four enjoyed every bite; the omelettes were delicious. Soon after our arrival, the tables around us filled and the restaurant became noticeably more crowded. Ambient noise made conversation a bit more difficult, but this restaurant is obviously popular and I understand the reasons. We unanimously agreed it was a fine breakfast and I look forward to a return visit.

Happy hour deal !

By Adeline F |

Great price on the food for the Happy hour. Good veggie burger. The fries and tots are industrial. Too bad they don’t offer a lot of alcoholfree option outside of sodas.

Lovely ambiance, excellent service and great food!

By Bikerbaker |

My husband and I made reservations for an early Sunday evening dinner. Our wait person, Carly was outstanding! Very informative on how the items we were contemplating were prepared. I had the roasted turkey breast with polenta and vegetables. My husband had the chicken pot pie which was made to his specifications with less mushrooms. Both dishes were excellent so we also tried their desserts! My blackberry pie was and individual pie served with vanilla ice cream. I don't think it was made that day because the crust didn't seem so fresh, day old perhaps but the flavor and presentation was very good. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his bread pudding.

A great surprise

By KayJF |

A work friend and I had a little time to kill before heading to the airport. Her friend suggested this place..the BRIX CHIPS ARE AMAZING. Like really grubbin good. Great fresh cocktails! Hip little spot. Will definitely visit again!

Amazing lemonade and chicken pot pie!!! The service was excellent as well. Drawing on the table paper was a plus for the kid that was with us!

Great bunch!

I love this place for brunch. Excellent food and service. They also have bottomless mimosas on Saturday and Sunday.

Brix Bento for lunch!

I enjoyed our lunch at Brix. I had the Brix Bento which was only served at lunch. Great service! The others in my party had a fancy burger and sandwich. All good!

Ate in the Back Whiskey Room ...

By Bryan H |

It was kind of a business meeting, kind of a social event mixture. The organization sponsoring the event organized the back room and a set menu for us. The rest of the restaurant was already hopping at 6:00 p.m. on a Saturday night. Hard to hear someone nearby talking. Big t.v. screens with sports and news on. The room in the back had sound proof glass doors that we could shut and shut out the roar. Every bit of the evening was a wee bit slow ... getting into the room, getting our food, etc. Didn't really mind much because that gave us more time to chat, get to know each other and "network". I felt the server knew the menu well, could make sound recommendations. They were attentive and sensitive, coming back when we were going around doing group introductions. The food was mostly quite good: salad, dinner rolls, main course and dessert. Would I go to the main part of the restaurant again? Probably not. It's a little too mainstream for me -- even though I had a delightful meeting there.

Great food but horrible service

By ej8903 |

I debated whether or not to give 3 or 4 stars. Food and atmosphere great, but started off bad. We arrived at 530 and was excited to be there. Someone in our party had been before and really talked this place up. The person came to greet is and asked if we had reservations. We didn't since it was early, and greeter said 8 was earliest available. We didn't want to wait, so left. I looked on TA and tried to find another spot. Brix showed up and for fun, I checked what was earliest we could get a table through open table. The earliest was 545 and openings through out the night. We were stumped, but chose 6pm. Went back, told the same guy we had reservations and was seated. Very strange, as there were several tables empty all around. I can only imagine how many other parties were turned away

Its ok

By 653hannak |

My husband got gluten free pizza and it was awful. I enjoyed my bacon mac&cheese. Service was good. Nothing really special about this place.

good option

went there to have dinner with some colleagues. overall, good food and good service. would recommend it to friends and portland visitors.

Exquisite food and Drinks

By Dave J |

Our last night in Portland and we wanted to find a cool place in the Pearl District to eat. Just two of us on a Sunday night and the place was hopping! About a 15 minute wait but we'll worth it. We ordered the Beet salad...soooo good, and Rotisserie roasted chicken tacos and pulled pork sliders. These aren't your typical chicken tacos and pulled pork sliders...these are over the top delicious with flavors not expected, but found myself curious for more. Hadn't planned on dessert, but since the main course was so delicious, we had to indulge. Even if you're not a big creme brulee fan, Brix Tavern might win you over!

GREAT RESTAURANT AND TAVERN!

By Chesapeake8 |

We love this place. The people in there are wonderful. I had the Chicken Pot Pie and it was delicious, full of chicken and vegetables. My husband had the Prime Beef Sandwich and he loved it.

Great experience and great food

Great Place for Food & Cocktails

By Katie K. |

Stopped here with colleagues while in Portland for business, and we're so glad we did! On a beautiful early-evening in Portland, we were able to sit outside and enjoy the weather, it was the perfect accompaniment to our cocktails and dinner. The Huckleberry Gimlet and Backyard Margarita were fan favorites at our table, as was the Gratin Potatoes. What's not to love about layers upon layers of potatoes oozing with cheese?!? Our server was attentive and offered great suggestions, and we all agreed that our meals were on point. This will be added to my list of places to enjoy on my next trip back to Portland!

Nice atmosphere

By JeenaC |

We had never been to Brix Tavern before and went with a group of friends. The atmosphere is very nice and the location is great for being close to event venues in Portland. As in other comments we have read, we also found the food to have mixed reviews. Our orders were for Fish & Tots and the Chicken Pot Pie. The Fish plate was fairly good although the portion was not very big. The chicken pie presentation was lovely and the filling was hot & creamy although I did find a few pieces of chicken that were NOT cooked which was a little unappetizing. The desserts were very tasty although a little high priced. Service was average. What really did turn us off was the automatic 20% gratuity that was added to each of our bills as we had a group of 7. There was no mention made about an automatic 20% when the reservation was made. For that reason alone, we probably will not return.

Good Friends, Good Food, Good Drinks

By Christina C |

As a local, Brix Tavern is quickly becoming my go-to restaurant. Their atmosphere is urban, open and lively. The food is very good, their Brix Chips are my favorite, I've never had anything like it before, just delicious. They have a solid bar with a fun and interesting cocktail menu. I've been there on business, girls night and with out of town guests, I've never been let down. The Happy Hour menu is outstanding.

Bottomless Mimosas

By Family_Jules1969 |

I've been here for brunch a couple of times and I'm always impressed with the attentive service. The servers carry around pitchers of mimosas and continue to fill them up. Be careful, you never know how much you've had to drink until you get up to leave. It's best to go early on weekends as it gets crowded around noon.

Good except for...

By David H |

This is a good place to eat for selection, price and service and would have scored higher if the washrooms had been better. With a long trek down a uninviting corridor to a mens washroom that has both urinals resting on the floor is not a good look for any place, let alone one which serves food. On the way back to the table you get a great view of your waitress washing dishes too.

Good food, EXPENSIVE DRINKS

By C G |

DRINKS WERE OVERPRICED. We ordered two old fashioneds with very mid-level bourbon (Old Forester), they charged $38 for each drink! The waiter did apologize for the high cost, but come on - that’s ridiculous knowing how much the bourbon costs in the store. Otherwise, the food was great and the service was excellent.

Wait staff not so great - food was great

By nicehrladee |

Went here our first day in Portland. We were seated quickly, but actually had to flag down someone to come wait on us. Got a chicken panini with avocado on it. I got tater tots as well. They had a nice spice on them which made them seem a little more 'grown up'. We were in a hurry, so once we got someone to take our order, we just had them bring us our check. The food is good enough that I would return, even though I know the wait staff was poor.

Great dinner

By AOGKid |

7some meal here in the evening. We had mixed starters and mains. Food is really good, comfort food. Everything was good but nothing was excellent. For example my salmon and lemon risotto, the salmon was tasty but slightly underdone, the risotto was sharp and tasty but just too much of it. The vegetables were perfect. The atmosphere and setting is excellent and the waiting staff are really friendly. Would recommend. Desserts are absolutely massive, too big, we got 2 between 7 persons and left the bulk behind. Don't bother with these.

What a nice discovery

By Anatomija |

Great place, alive with people. Very affordable at happy hour times. They are not strict on exact minute of happy hour and very, very friendly and professional. Food is delicious, and rather generosus portions. Will come back!

Meh

Quick Sunday brunch stop. Cool building and good service but Southwest Benedict was incredibly salty and delicious beet salad was a modest starter size, not anything close to the Cobb salad and left me hungry.

Impressive Meal

By cougar_df |

We happened to be in Portland during their Dining Month when some of their top restaurants offered a 3-course meal for USD33. From the hotel we were staying at, we decided to give the Brix Tavern a go since it had good reviews and was within walking distance. For starters, the 3 of us ordered a classic caesar, a bacon wedge salad and a prawn salad. Tasty and good so far. The mains then came, comprising a 15oz New York steak, Alaskan Crab and Rock Shrimp Cake, and Grilled Atlantic Salmon. Dessert followed - Heath Bar Brownie, Creme Brulee and Molten Torte. We were rolling off the table onto the floor by the time we were done; there was so much food! The fare though was impressive. Well cooked and enjoyable. The dinner made for a good end to a tiring day. Well worth a visit.

Three thumbs up!

Whether you eat here for brunch, happy hour, or dinner (the three thumbs), you can't go wrong. Great selection, service and space. For brunch - complimentary, fresh-made donuts. Happy hour/Dinner - garlic rolls that melt in your mouth. Love this place!

My girlfriend and I went here for happy hour and weren't disappointed with either the food or the service! The drinks were just as good...

Breakfast at Brix

By Vincent S |

Brix tavern not only has a fantastic atmosphere, but wonderful food and awesome staff. This was my third time to Brix and it is my new go-to for breakfast. I sat at the bar top and was instantly greeted by the bartender (Veronica) who made suggestions about the menu. I ordered the biscuits and gravy. It was one of the best I've ever tasted and came out piping hot and very quickly. All throughout breakfast Veronica was filling my coffee and water without me having to ask and promptly cleared the plate when I was finished. Cannot speak highly enough about establish itself, the chiefs who cooked that delicious plate, and Veronica herself. Everything was on point. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Watch your credit card charges here!

By ChefTIO |

Stopped a here on Friday September 11th for lunch at the bar. Had a couple of beers and some food. Both were very good. A few days later when I was comparing receipts and charges on my cc. Noticed that the bartender padded the tip ever so slightly. I am very conscious of all my charges and tracking while traveling. Guessing the girl behind the bar wouldn't think I would noticed a bump in the tip. Guess the 20% wasn't good enough???????? Fail!

Delicious Dishes, Great Service, Nice Atmosphere

A friend and I shared a number of dishes. We especially loved the brussels sprouts, the beet salad and Brix's version of nachos. Our server was fantastic!

Nice brunch in the heart of the Pearl District

By Doug H |

We went to the Brix Tavern at noon on a Saturday during Burger Week in Portland but we arrived during brunch and their featured burger wasn't available until 3:30. In spite of that the food and service made up for out disappointment. We were promptly seated and greeted by our server. She answered our questions and was quite helpful. The venue was busy and the noise level was moderate. We could carry on a conversation fairly comfortably. Their brunch menu has the typical breakfast/brunch fare but also includes lunch features like burgers, soups, salads and some other entrees. They have an adequate beer list with a good variety of craft beers on tap. They have a large cocktail list that looked interesting. We had their Classic Burger (to make up for missing the Burger Week burger) and ½ of a Salmon Benedict. Both were tasty and were generous portions. All in all we enjoyed the food and service of this nicely located food venue. We would return if in the area.

30th birthday party!!

By Dsdgtdude |

This place was host to my son's 30th birthday party. His girlfriend made reservations and I see why. The place was almost packed on a Sunday early afternoon. The waitress and the food entry computers had a couple of glitches but didn't cause us any grief. My wife had the Farmers breakfast. It was eggs to order, hash browns and your choice of meat. She loved it and also loved the bottomless Mimosa's. I had Applewood smoked Salmon Benedict. It was very good. They use corn cakes, kind of like cornbread for the base. The Benedict also came with hash browns. People in our party also had Chicken and Waffles, Biscuits and Gravy, Chicken Fried Chicken, a Hamburger and the Chicken Pot Pie. Everything looked great and we had lots of fun. We will definitely go back in the future!

Great service and food for a large group

Great food, service and value

Brix consistantly delivers tasty food with friendly service. The manager, Jeff, is busy seeing that guests are taken care of and sets a great example for the highly efficient and dedicated staff. Their Happy Hour is one of the best in the Pearl District.

Portland Dining Month

By Marie L |

Parking - busy street, but parking wasn’t too bad at all. Reception- Welcoming and seated pretty quickly. Waitstaff- Friendly, fast service and answered all our questions Ambiance- Open, airy, televisions on the walls, clean, fun and a bit loud. Food-the basic salad was super yummy. My alcoholic beverage was a bit on the weak side, but the fish and gator tots were tasty. Pretty good place and variety for “pub type” food. It’s a step up.

Came For The Casual. Stayed For The Food

By RadioGuru |

It was chosen as the easy/casual option for our first night in Portland from many more ambitious restaurants in the Pearl District, but we're glad we found Brix Tavern. Everything we ate exceeded our expectations, particularly the truffle macaroni & cheese, and the fish & tater tots. (As you might expect, everything had a little twist that elevated it above most pub food.)

Exceptional dining experience!

Very extensive menu and everything we ordered was delicious! The service was outstanding! With so many dining options in Portland, I would highly recommend checking this place out!

Brix Tavern On A Monday Night

By Dick L |

Monday is a slow night at Brix, but good news for diners. Happy Hour extends until closing on Sundays and Mondays, so good things are on the menu at lower prices. Not on the Happy Hour menu though, I ordered Alaskan Halibut & Prawns. My wife had a dinner salad. We shared an appetizer of calimari too. The fish dish was well seasoned and I thought it was very well prepared and well presented. There was a mix-up on the check, only discovered after we left though. I was charged for our friends entree (crab cakes), and he must have been charged for my wife's salad. Oh well, things happen, but next time I will double check the entries on the final bill.

Wish I could give it 4 1/2 stars

By Carl R |

We are local and got pretty thirsty on a hot Portland day. The Brix was a place we’d never tried. Not too busy at 4 pm. The waitress was very sociable and friendly. We had heard about their smoked cheese fondue and so we got a couple of (excellent) beers. Ninkasi, as I remember. The fondue arrived piping hot. So good I wanted to put it in my veins. But… they had a grocery store soft centered bread with it. Limp. Unoriginal. Bad crust and seemed a bit stale as well. Whelp, there goes the half star right there. Bread is not a place to cut corners when you are offering a terrific fondue. We had a good time and will be back for dinner soon. Recommended

Delish!

We are here for a business trip! First time to Portland for us both! Brix Tavern was extremely warm and welcoming and the food / happy hour was fantastic ! Definitely would recommend the chicken wings ! Best I’ve had in a long time ! Beet salad was phenomenal !

Bottomless Mimosas!

By missmadisonnn |

Honestly, this place is the best place in Portland to get some quality brunch. They did have bottomless mimosas but they called it bubbles with every bite. The service was wonderful and very attentive. The food was great and they had a lot of options. We went on Saturday morning for brunch at 9:45 am and it didn't start to get busy until the end of our meal. The mimosas were strong as well and for $9 you can't go wrong. I would recommend the Brix Waffle, Shrimp and Grits, and ALMOND BROWN SUGAR CRUSTED & STUFFED FRENCH TOAST!! YUM YUM YUM! Such an amazing meal! I definitely recommend making a reservation if you plan to visit.

Great attention to dietary needs. Lots of TVs focused on sports. Prime rib was cooked to perfection. Halibut was tasty.
