Great Brunch; Beautiful Environment

By byie-byie |

This is a small cafe in SW Portland that is in the recently built Nordic Center. The building is a modern building with clean lines and a door carved with Nordic themes. It is set in an open meadow surround by tall trees. Today was a sunny day and it was just lovely. The staff was friendly, helpful and responsive. The food was very fresh, tasty and came quickly. The food was well presented. There were many dishes to choose from. I absolutely recommend this as a place to stop and enjoy a bite to eat when you're in the neighborhood and even when it's a bit of a drive. We had one the Smorgasbord plates, Swedish Meatballs with a potato pancake and Danish Pancakes. We tried the Peach Fizz and the Lingonberry Fizz. Everything was delicious! The flavors were subtle and well balanced. The muffins were moist and the fruit perfectly ripe. The atmosphere is relaxing. It is a casual cafe, but quiet enough to easily carry on a conversation. The kitchen is in full view, so you can see the meadow and the kitchen from several of the tables. It is clean and well kept. Pictures of our meals included.

Worth The Drive.

I have been dying to get to Broder! Both locations are always busy so I decided to try this new one, at the brand-new Scandinavian Heritage Center. I was not disappointed. I've been to Norway, and honestly, I felt like I was there. The service is exquisite, decor modern and sleek, exactly what you would expect from a Scandinavian restaurant. The coffee is strong, the food not only superbly delicious, but also a superb execution of design and visual enjoyment. I would definitely recommend making the drive out.

Among the best ever

By merryole |

Wonderful food. Our children and grandchildren go there often for brunch. With a large group; we could sample many items and share. We started with two orders of Danish pancake balls for every to share. Oh, my! I had the Swedish Hash with smoked trout. Wow - unexpectedly good.Everyone loved the traditional Swedish meatballs, so we ordered more. Lost Eggs were a hit. Also the baked eggs with walnut toast. The Danish thickened cream pancakes were the most popular. Among the best Lingonberry preserves I've had.

Scandinavian Excellence

By LauraM |

Recently, I had brunch at this restaurant with my husband and two of our friends. The atmosphere is very pleasing and the indoor seating was Covid compliant. The staff was very friendly and helpful as we were unfamiliar with some of the items on the menu. The four of us had different items and they were all delicious. The fresh tangerine juice alone is worth a visit! The restaurant is also in an area with lots of tall trees and is aesthetically appealing. Our brunch day was rainy, so we were seated indoors, but we noted that there were tents outside for larger groups. Our only wish was that they had one in California.

93 year old loved it all!

By Andrea R |

We had a great time, everything we tried was wonderful. The Mimosas, are great and lots of flavor choices. Only draw back is the noise from the kitchen, our 93 year old friend had a hard time hearing us. Do leave room for dessert! Yum-o! Cheers

All Around Yes!

By Heather D |

Loved this spot! Very unique experience, my family is from Norway and I don’t come across Scandinavian culture in the US often. This is a Scandinavian cultural center on beautiful grounds and the restaurant is fantastic. It’s a beautiful aesthetic and everything we had was delicious. Take the time to walk around the grounds after you eat and visit the troll, definitely worth the experience! We had the ham Benedict, the Lefse and the danish pancakes. Very friendly staff that made nice recommendations. Would recommend to anyone visiting the area.

I love brunch!

By schoewe |

With a Danish mother in law and having lived in Sweden I have high expectations for Nordic restaurants- this place beats them and then some! The aebelskever and glog we had for breakfast last weekend along with plates of smoked trout and eggs were yummy and authentic! Plus the place is gorgeous.

Interesting Scandinavian Food - call for reservation!

By nkwins |

Four good friends, a new destination for lunch and Scandinavian food - what's not to love! Our friend Nan called ahead for reservations. I hear there can be a long wait to get in. We drove to a non-descript building near Washington Square on Oleson. It took me a turnaround to find the building. When our whole party was there, we were led into a clean spare dining area with a beautiful view. Service was great! We ordered traditional Scandinavian dishes. I had a meatball platter that was superior to the Ikea dining room experience. A delicious potato pancake was part of my lunch. This is a beautiful gathering space with lots of information on the region, beautiful artwork and a lovely setting.

Breakfast

By AnthonyT407 |

A surprise find, not far from my hotel, very popular with the local, waiting time is 10-15 min. This a Swedish cultural centre of course serving Swedish style cuisine, a must try is their pancakes balls.

Blown away!!!

By David Marino |

We went here for breakfast with a dozen people in our extended family and I was expecting the worst – – cuckoo clocks, little wooden men, garden gnomes...the whole cheese. Instead, the restaurant is incredibly stylish, contemporary and one of the most beautiful architectural buildings in the area. But come for the food! We shared three orders of their eableskivers, which were perfectly cooked and served with both a lemon curd and raspberry jam. Yum! These are described as Danish pancakes, but are served round and are more like a breakfast pastry. My wife and I could not decide between the corn beef hash or vegetable hash, so we ordered the corn beef with vegetable added, and it was fantastic. It was only surpassed by the “lost eggs“ which is comprised of two soft baked eggs, cream spinach, and ham all in a cast iron skillet. My mother-in-law ordered that and I was fortunate to have a few bites as the portion size is so large it’s actually hard to finish. I definitely had food envy as Lost Eggs would be my number one pick. Others had wonderful meals as well and there wasn’t a single complaint. The coffee is free-flowing, with exceptional service making sure that our cups never got to empty. If I lived in the area, this would be a weekly regular for us!

Late birthday lunch

By Marlys D |

I was excited to try a Nordic resturant as I am not familiar with the food. A beautiful location, I've passed it many times and did not realize it was a restaurant. We tried the combination platter and wanted to split the shrimp and avacodo salad. The waitress said this wasn't possible but brought us a SMALL plate when we asked. The food had beautiful presentation and wS very good, but unfortunately was over shadowed by the horroservice. Our waits had time to roll her silverware and eat her lunch while we sat with dirty plates and wanted to order something else .i guess it is more of a museum then restaurant.

Great brunch overshadowed by a very long wait

By JeanClaudeSmit |

I'll start with the the positives - the food here really is good, and one of the nicest brunches in town in my opinion. Options are a bit limited, but are very well prepared and tasty. I would love to see some kid options on the menu, as $100 for 2 adults and 2 kids feels a bit steep for me. On the down side - they really need to figure out their waiting/booking situation (the latter doesn't exist at all). We came here for my wife's birthday to have a nice brunch and thought we would call ahead to hear how long the wait is before we drive over. We were told very rudely on the phone that it is an 1 1/2 hour, and we have to be physically present to put our names on the list. How an establishment located as isolated as this, can expect it to be ok to tell me to wait an 1 1/2 in their waiting area with a 2 year old is beyond me. If they were located downtown in PDX, where you can still walk around the area a bit etc., it would be different, but its not. I understand that they want a high turnover of patrons and dont want open tables, but they need to figure something out, as this is not working.

Enjoyable breakfast

By Traveler523095 |

Pretty location, had breakfast on the patio and there wasn't too many people at 9 on a weekday. We had the Aebleskivers which were very good with the lemon curd sauce. We also had the baked scrambled eggs with Ham and cheese and a side of a small pancake. Both were very good and filling. The waitress was nice and we're looking forward to going next time.

The real deal

By MARSHA S |

this place is the home run that everyone says it is. Fika is a Swedish term that refers to a warm nourishing break; it's a social term - does NOT mean coffee.) A meal at Broder pays that off beautifully

So Good!!

By Florian H |

We love it. We lived in Denmark for 3 years and know when we taste Scandinavians flavors. We actually went to the North and the SW BS locations over 2 weekends. We recommend the Aebleskiver and the Smorrebrod. Will return...not so soon though....it is a little pricey.

Little taste of Northern Europe in SW, PDX.

By Steve Oppenheim |

We met my Brother at this place which was a total surprise His son suggested it,so we gave it a try,and were happily rewarded for taking a chance. Very unusual fare for S.W. Portland. Beautiful light and airy setting, with good service, and fun food choices. Wonderful hot chocolate, not super sugary with a lot of whipped cream. The egg dishes were most unusual, and tasty. WE will definitely go back, now that we know it is in our neighborhood.

Pleasant change of pace

By BeavertonMIke |

Wanted to try something different and off the beaten path. Broder Soder certainly met that bill. Small restaurant with outdoor patio seating. Waited about 30 minutes Sunday afternoon. Kept occupied by the attached museum looking at photos of explorers at the North Pole. First time ever served coffee with hot cream so your coffee wouldn't get cold. The Danish pancakes are like donut balls with yummy lemon curd and lingonberry jam to dip them in. Different types of hash; trout, veggie and corned beef. No GF bread but lots of other things to choose from. Salads looked great. Especially the chicken kale. Friendly staff. Will go back soon.

Breakfast or Lunch

By Maggie B |

this is one of my go to spots for authentic Scandinavian cuisine. My personal favorite for breakfast/brunch is Lefse. Norske potato pancakes with soft baked eggs. Friendly and clean. Within walking distance from my home! Love it!!!!!

Prepare for hours of long wait

By I3194VC |

People wait in line 20 minutes before it's open. You sign in for a table but the hostess can't seat you immediately because she hasn't figured it out. after about 45 minutes plus passed before we were seated. The hostess reports that she has to wait because the waitresses are running behind. Mind you, our names were amongst the first group as soon as the door opened. It has limited seating but there are inconsiderate individuals that just sit there and not leave. Apparently there's like two waitresses, and one or two other staff but don't expect to get refills on coffee or your needs attended. This place is disorganized and the staff here are not quite motivated to work. I would suggest to go to the establishment off of Clinton.

Great art, the food and service not so much

By janb9 |

We met an old friend here for lunch after enjoying the outstanding art in the attached small museum. Our friend ordered a bowl of soup and received about a half cup of soup in a saucer-like container. As we finished our meal, we were asked to leave so that our table could be used for the people waiting. Next time, we will just come for the art and forget the lunch.

Europe in the Suburbs

By John Allan N |

Portland is loved by foodies, but the suburbs haven fallen short of expectations until Broder Soder opened in 2015. Located in the Scandinavian modern Nordia House (home of Nordic NW), this small cafe feels like a European bistro and creates exceptional dishes which are both tasty and unique. Everything is fresh and hand made on-site with a distinctly Scandinavian flair. Even afternoon coffee - "FIKA" - offers delicious backed goods just like in Copenhagen. Morning breakfast or a long lunch (on the terrace under an umbrella is nice) is a special treat with unique dishes, and meatballs and Herring, too! Excellent wines are available to round out a nice experience in a beautiful place.

Nordic Delight

By Margaret B |

We took my nephew here for brunch and were delighted by the Nordic cuisine. Everything was delicious. Lovely setting looking out on nature.

Hidden gem down the road from Washington Square - Great option for casual lunch

By Mark T |

I long wanted to check out and recently had a casual lunch with the wife. Very popular. Nice atmosphere. food was good with nice presentation. the salmon salad was amazing. well worth checking out

Face fields do not keep anyone safe

By Cheryl L |

773959590 Face fields do not work unless accompanied by a mask! Obviously this is a uniform for all servers/ hostess, etc. It’s not keeping staff or customers safe. It’s an aberration if the law ‘face coverings’, and employees need to think of who they potentially bring a virus home to. I am a Public Health nurse ( and ER... PPE works) and I will not eat here again.

Beautiful Setting for Dining on Scandinavian Breakfast or Lunch

By costaricatravel09 |

Unexpectedly beautiful landscaped and natural setting. The Cafe is located in the Scandinavian Heritage Center - a brilliant idea. The building itself is very light and airy - lots of wood and glass. We enjoyed the Soder Bord; Baked Eggs with Griddle Cakes served with Lingonberry Sauce and Chicken Apple Sausage; and the decadent, delicious Aebleskivers (Danish Pancakes) served with Powdered Sugar, Lemon Curd and Lingonberry Jam - plenty to share but you may not want to! The servers were pleasant and attentive.

Poor

By Steve K |

Really lousy service. My wife and I came here for breakfast on a Monday. Certainly wasn't busy. We waited at the hostess station for over 15 minutes while the staff ran back and forth, not waiting tables, empty handed. Yet, there were two empty tables, one less than 3 feet away. I don't know what they were doing, but they kept telling us it would be a few minutes. We were about to walk out when they finally realized they were about to loser some business and seated us. No apology for the long wait. I had the Broder Soder, which was a sampler platter. $15 for a deviled egg, two spoonfuls of soup, two tiny scraps of gravlax, two small wedges of cheese, 3 tiny bits of ham, the driest piece of toast ever and a couple of spoonfuls of what was probably packaged yogurt. I can't remember what my wife order, but it was two eggs with a ton of panko covering it. Save your money.

This is as Nordic as it gets

By Richard B |

We went for breakfast. The menu is very northern, with subtly seasoned dishes, nothing very hot spicy. The skiing museum in the building is worth the trip, but the yummy breakfast is superb. No lattes here, but the coffee is great European style served in a full cup, very aromatic. This is a "must do"for locals with Nordic roots. It is a bit spendy, but absolutely worth it. We will try it for lunch next time. Open from 9 to 3 only.

Delightfully hidden gem for brunch

By Stacy Strickland |

We came in search of the troll, Ole Bolle, and discovered such a great spot to have lunch. On a cold day with an early alarm, I was in need of something warm with caffeine. I opted for the London Fog... and received the most delicious beverage. I'd go back just for this. The fall squash salad was great. Mom enjoyed her ham benedict. He liked the vegetable beef soup after he added some hot sauce.

Authentic Nordic cusine - excellent!!

By Fighterchick |

Food was amazing. So fresh and the Nordic cuisine is so interesting. The server and host were great. The peppermint hot cocoa was “perfection.”

The architecture of this beautiful restaurant was so great it was almost a distraction!

By Mary L |

We were greeted by an attractive young woman and shown to a table immediately. We were busy rubbernecking because my husband is an architect and the room was stunning. We ordered food he had known as a little boy with a Swedish grandma -- and it was very good. The service was excellent. We'll definitely go back.

Disappointed

By kathy s |

My first time writing a negative review. I chose this place because of my positive experience last Christmas. This time I bought three friends who hadn’t experienced the restaurant or had been together because of Covid. We drove 60 minutes in morning tush hour traffic as we didn’t want to wait for a table. All of us ordered something different from the extensive menu and all of us were disappointed in the food. The room is lovely but the food lacks any reason to return and the pressure to leave quickly is not conducive to enjoyment.

Wonderful Atmosphere to Enjoy Wonderful Food

By JimJudee |

We arrived right at lunch time but the near hour wait was worth it. Everything on the menu sounded delicious so finally decided on the Soder Bord. Many little nibbles. The cauliflower cheese soup was very good and loved the pickled beets. My husband had the hot dog sandwich Scandinavia style he loved it. We are planning our next visit for breakfast.

Great Find Delicious Food Brodor Sodor Southwest

By jackiebr63 |

We actually ate at this restaurant‘s Nordic Center location which besides of the delicious food from the Broder Soder restaurant, there is many interesting things to see and a garden troll walk! We had both forms of potato pancakes, yum and the veggie bowl with baked eggs and scrumptious roasted vegetables with a delicious vegan sausage. All of the three dishes different but thoroughly enjoyed. A definite find!

Not my cup of tea

By txchef320 |

Was not sure what to expect of this place. My aunt and two cousins had been there before and loved it so I tagged along. Swedish food, not necessarily my biggest Cuisine that I go after when I go out to eat. Tried it once it wasn't bad I gave it a 3. We were told a 30 to 45-minute wait and it was close to an hour. You're able to order coffee cocktails or pastries while you're waiting. Not my cup of tea. Nice art on the walls.

A little short of expectations

By Janet S |

Recalling a wonderful experience at Broder Nord several years ago, we had high hopes for this place, and they weren't entirely misplaced. The savory lefse breakfast was terrific and quite filling. On the other hand, the meatballs were odd-tasting and way too big to pass as Scandinavian. Then there were the aebleskivers. They were not at all the hollow delights we had at Broder Nord. They were solid dough balls, and not particularly delicious ones, and the three of us failed to finish the serving of seven aebleskivers.

Scandinavian experience

By Susan W |

Good food from different cuisine. Small tables, no room for more than 4. Had to wait for 45 minutes for lunch but free coffee while you wait. Cute gift shop.

Scandinavia at it's best!

By Seascot64 |

Broder Soder is located in Portland's Scandia House. This delightful property is located near the Washington Square Shopping Center. The setting couldn't possibly be better. The interior is clean, comfortable, and offers a splendid view of the nearby woods. The service is helpful and friendly. At first glance the menu looks small but the offerings are fantastic. On our visit we sampled the Lefse and the Danish Pancakes. Both offerings were brilliantly plated and scrumptious to the extreme. We washed our entrees down with Ligonberry Spritzers. It was like have a multitude of delicious flavors hitting you all at once. Broder Soder is not a place to go if you are in a hurry. However, you wouldn't want to be in a hurry at this delightful café. You need the extra time to savor and enjoy all of the incredible flavors. Broder Soder is not just a restaurant. It is an experience. I would include Broder Soder among the top attractions of Portland, Oregon.

Brunch with a Twist

By Dane A |

This cafe offers unique Scandinavian items. They are open for breakfast and lunch. We enjoyed Danish pancakes which are ball shaped rather than flat. They are served with preserves and lemon curd. Yummy We also had hidden eggs which have a base of creamy spinach with two eggs baked inside along with cheese. They are served with a specialty toast. There are different lunch items as well. There are bakery items available also.

A treat for the palate.

By doubledown2 |

We had brreakfast here and the food is amazing. The building if lovely, and the cultural leaning gave us a grand experience. They were not terribly busy when we were there, but service did seem slow.

Nice Scandanavian Breakfast.

By LOMike |

We were at this quirky Scandanavian restaurant for breakfast. We had a variety of dishes and each was well prepared and flavorful. Allow plenty of time for breakfast. The service is slow.

Great lunch spot

By AnnElizabeth97123 |

Great lunch spot. I had to wait 15 minutes for a table; it was busy! Got the openfaced lamb sandwich. Dark bread, chèvre, thin sliced cold roast lamb, onions and tomatoes. With an arugula salad on top and pickled vegetables on the side. So good. Can’t wait to go again and try something else!

Beautiful Setting, Service Good, Kitchen Slow

By AliceMariam |

This restaurant is gorgeous. The menu is interesting. The food was unique. The Danish Pancakes (round shaped balls) with lemon curd and jam were tasty.

Wonderful food and Service

By magster929 |

Broder Soder is just down the street from where we live even so, it took a while to get there. Sorry we waited so long! I was missing my son and his family who live in Norway.. So that is what finally got us there. The ingredients are fresh, wonderfully prepared and presented in addition to tasting delicious! I would totally recommend this to everyone!! There seems to be quite the wait on weekends.. So prepare for that. We happened there on a weekday around 1100 and were fortunate to get seated straight away!

Wonderful choices for Brunch

By acnona |

This is such a fun place for brunch or lunch. It is located in the Nordic Center which is on SW Olesen Road. It is a limited but yummy menu--Lost Eggs are a perfect choice but so are many other items.. We had a large group so there was a wait and they put two large tables together to accommodate us. Service was slow but deliberate ( everything is made on the spot). We had a very enjoyable time. Try it, it won't disappoint!

Awesome breakfast, great staff

By C R |

One of the best places in the Beaverton area for breakfast! Great food and really friendly wait staff. Sat at the bar and loved watching all the food come off the line.

Excellent Scandinavian food in a natural setting--hidden jewel

By Jane D |

My grandparents were Swedish so I had high expectations for this restaurant and boy did it deliver! The meatballs are just like Grandma used to make. We went there three days in a row for breakfast or lunch! Can't say enough about how good the food is here. One day we sat outside on the patio--nice park like setting. Our family tried almost everything on the menu and several of the drinks. Everything was delicious--fresh and homemade.

Scandinavian minimalist setting, delightful food

By Caro M |

Aim for early lunch since this place fills up quickly. The cafe is a section of the large Nordia complex (a Scandinavian community center) in a woodland setting. I ordered the open-faced sandwiches I so loved when touring Scandinavia. These look simple, but what makes them Scandinavian is the LAYERING of many flavors instead of mushing everything together. Thus each bite (warning: use a fork!) is slightly different from the last one and you avoid entree boredom. (And each open-faced sandwich is a work of art to view). Lovely "Scandi-style" plates, bowls, side-dishes make even light lunch fare appear dramatic. Currently, this place is only open for "supper" on Friday evenings, with a much expanded menu. Several menu choices offer a good sampling of Scandinavian fare at lunchtime.

Nordic breakfast

By Muadib84 |

Note: picture is of next door Scandinavian structure... the restaurant is very modern. A very busy place, with limited parking. A long wait... 30 to 40 minutes, followed by slow service. The food, however, is quite good, with a nice selection to choose from. Just don't be in a rush..

Scandinavian food

By John Warzynski |

Great parking lot although difficult to see from the road. Polite staff Good meatballs and potato pancakes and lingonberry sauce

Who knew? A very pleasant surprise

By Mgnart |

You may have driven right by and didn’t know about this restaurant. But if you are shopping at Washington Square this a great place for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Each meal on the menu is carefully prepared. Especially like the baked eggs or the lost eggs—never had lost eggs before. And it was new to me, but when they bring coffee they offer hot cream so that it does not cool the drink. There is inside seating, but if it is a nice day, I recommend eating outside under an umbrella. This is a great place to meet a friend or have a business appointment. The Swedish theme is refreshing and fun Even the front door says. Welcome, come in

A Scandinavian Experience

By GlobePlodder |

Had a great breakfast. I had the Æbleskiver. A Danish creation , a kind of fritter that comes with lemon curd and lingonberry on the side. They also had a very nice patio that looked on to a grassy area and a stand of trees beyond. The building also has a Scandinavian asthetic.

Truly authentic. Reminded me of wonderful meals enjoyed while living in Scandinavia.

By NoStoppinUs |

I hear this place can be crowded. We arrived shortly before opening for Sunday brunch. They stagger the seating to smooth the overall experience. Good idea but you should be prepared to wait for your seat. Our party of 5 all ordered different things and everyone enjoyed the food. Having lived in and traveled all over Scandinavia, I can vouch for the authenticity of the flavors. Excellent job. I will happily return the next time I am in the area. My only recommendation for the staff is that they either buy larger tables or take better care to seat parties of 5 at tables for 6. We darn near knocked our food on the floor several times.

Tasty Food with Heritage Roots

By Paul L |

Broder Soder recently opened as part of the new Nordia House, the Scandinavian Heritage Center. They serve a wonderful variety of aebleskivers, breakfast boards, and open sandwiches. Full service bat and desserts as well. The facility is totally beautiful architecture looking our over an open field. Currently open 9-3 Tuesday through Friday. They will be expanding hours later. The food was so tasty and hearty.

Fresh Flavors, Great Overall Experience

By b0raas |

Broder's Soder is one of the hidden jewels of this City and of the Nordia House it inhabits. The overall architectural design of this restaurant and the Scandinavian Cultural Center is modern and you have the feeling of being very close to nature. The restaurant has large windows that open up to a beautiful woodland and the light on a sunny day is energizing. I understand in the summer they open up the patio and I can't wait to lounge out there with some of their signature cocktails. Everything about Broder Soder and the NOrdia House is surprising in a very positive way, but it remains modest and humble while it achieves excellence. They don't try or need to be anything more than they are, which is a place for all to come to learn about and enjoy the Nordic culture. Take time to visit the very well designed exhibit about Swedish immigrants and their impact on Portland and Oregon's growth.

Scandinavian Cuisine For Brunch

By filviz |

Had a family gathering here and really enjoyed the Scandinavian fare! We were a large party and made reservations. The food was very good and fresh. It was lighter than I thought and flavorful. Everyone enjoyed their dishes....with a wide variety of choices, it was good to share. The egg dishes were very good and so were the sandwiches. I’d love to come back again!

Intimate Cafe With Good Foo

By Mys50 |

I have never had Scandinavian food before but I have to say the food there is good. Most Scandinavian food seems cured or salted. I tried the Broder Soder which is a sample platter that included cured ham, salted trout, gravlax, soup, small pastry, farmers cheese and rye bread. I wanted to try the meatballs but didn't get a chance. Service was good and friendly. Keep in mind it is a small place and I would avoid the gravel parking. All in all it was a good experience.

Beautiful location

By tiredandtravelled |

Like you are in the north woods of Scandinavia! In the Scandinavian cultural center only 40 seats including the counter but so lovely. Bright and airy, with wonderful service and food. There is a cultural center gift shop and for the time being an exhibit on Spirits from the frozen north...Skol! We had breakfast items griddle cakes with lingonberries and a bord or sample plank of ham, gravlax, smoked trout and cheeses. Best things the baked goods, coffee (cream is heated!) and anything pickled; delightful sauces accompanied the meats. A wonderful cookie with marzipan. The Christmas ornaments are handmade, reasonably priced and beautiful. Open 9-3, and there was queue on a Wednesday morning!

Authentic Nordic cuisine

By maana16 |

Broder Söder is tucked away off of SW Oleson Road, not too far from Washington Sq. It is co-located with Nordic Northwest, which has a mini-museum with changing Nordic-themed exhibits. Also a conference room that hosts various events. The menu has an interesting selection of Nordic foods to choose from. Food is well prepared – beautifully presented. The challenge, as others have noted, is that there is limited seating. Expect long waits on the weekend – especially for breakfast/brunch. We generally come on weekdays between 9:30 and 11 and have had no problems getting a table. Some have noted poor service, but that hasn’t been our experience. A bit expensive. We just returned from having a couple of coffees and two scones. The bill was over $13 - but the scones were good!
