My wife and I stumbled across this hole in the wall as we walked back to our hotel. What a nice little find. Great food, service, atmosphere. Carne asada tacos are amazing.

We shared a big platter of tacos and a quesadilla along with chips, salsa, and guacamole...and, of course, a pitcher of margaritas! Yay!!! Delish!! Highly recommended!!! We loved it!

Loved the services and the food. It was a great atmosphere to take my friends from out of town in. Definitely recommend.

Started with the Frozen Coconut Horchata...delicious Had the Fried Chicken Taco...ok so weird at a Mexican restaurant but so good! Also had the Carne Asada which was excellent. Portions are not big but plenty...if you need more just order another fried chicken one. The sauces they bring out are especially good. Just right amount of kick for someone who likes her salsa mild!

After spending the day at the IHA show at McCormick, we enjoyed a great dinner with Nachos, Tacos and Churros at Broken English. Add their Margherita and some Corona and you feel Mexico. Great and recommended!

Seen this place really busy so went for our tea. Quite disappointing the 6 taco deal was okay but the waiter had suggested these would be massive and enough to fill 2, they weren’t. We went for churros for dessert with pomegranate ice cream. The churros were nice the ice cream was strawberry. We then had Paloma cocktails which were basically tequila and soda no sign of the other ingredients and the fact the cocktails were clear confirmed this. Meal and service felt very rushed.

We just happened to stumble across Broken English. It was a great find. Chips and Guac were full of great flavor. I had a breakfast burrito. Huge and full of goodness. Other family members had tacos and they were in love with them. Waiter was great!! Decor was fun also!!!! We will be back!!!

Nice outside dining is offered, good menu with a 6 taco for 20 special. Good beers and a great bloody mary.

The food was sadly only so so at best. The salsa was delicious and servers are fairly friendly. We liked being able to eat lunch outside on a lovely summer day.

great atmosphere. great food. great beer selection and drinks. this was our first time here and it wont be the last.

Stopped in for a quick bite and a couple of sodas. (Beers lol) Spent about 3 hours here hydrating and chatting with friends. Stepped up my game when I noticed the Tequila selection and spoke at length with the bartender about the different types and I actually learned something . (I thought I knew it all) .After about 2 hours of hydrating we moved outside to patio and people watched for a while. Great vibe at this place!

Late-night Mexican food al fresco in Chicago in July .... this should be plenty great. It wasn't. The quesadilla la gringa was decent, but not as flavorful as it should've been. Service was all over the place; the guy greeting me at the door was terrific & went to some lengths to get me set up at a table on the sidewalk. The waitress, Naomi, was alright, but seemed overworked. The rest of the serving staff that was on duty that night seemed to be uninterested in the work - the young guy who delivered the quesadilla was gone in half a second, and two other waitresses and a bouncer-looking guy at the door showed zero interest in helping when my server was unavailable & I wanted the check. Not a bad spot, certainly, but it needs more active management - in the kitchen and on the floor - to become as good as it should be.

Had a nice selection of $2 tacos, so much flavor on there own, ate most without accompanying sauces. The red sauce's hear comes from ginger-very unique. Great service at bar.

So happy to see Broken English open in such a difficult time in Chicago. The menu is more limited - apps, tacos, dessert, and drinks. But... it’s all good food!!! Chips and guacamole - so good! Crisp chips with just enough salt. Tasty guacamole with a little tomato and radish on top - very good. The BEST tacos carnitas!! Such flavor, amazing!!! Outside and inside seating! Great staff!

Popped in on a Tuesday afternoon for lunch... and boy were we lucky! It was Taco Tuesday and they offered an eclectic and unique offering of "mix and match" tacos for a very reasonable price. The carnitas, fried chicken and chipotle chicken tacos were absolutely divine. They also make their own salsas in-house and they are delicious. While the menu seems to be pretty light on offerings, that's the key! They offer 10-12 items that are REALLY well done. Really flavorful and the menu style allows for mixing and matching. So you can try them all. Also - I highly recommend the Guacamole. It is perfect.

We popped in for a drink after having lunch elsewhere and wished we would've had a meal as well. The food we saw passing our table looked incredibly delicious. Giant burritos, tacos...all looked so good. We had an incredibly friendly server/bartender and considering how busy he was still managed to give us his full attention. We ordered a margarita and Paloma. Both delicious and surprisingly fresh made ingredients. I'm always skeptical of a good margarita as many restaurants use gross bottled sweet and sour mixes, but not these guys! Drinks were delicious and fresh. Art and signage all over the walls is very entertaining as well. A must try! We will definitely go back for the full experience. Thank you!

Left a well known pizza restaurant due to bad service. Stumbled upon the taco pub. FANTASTIC service, yummy food and well made cocktails. Daniella was so sweet and brought us the extra spicy salsa. We will be back!

If you're looking for a small festive environment with mediocre tacos for a reasonable price, then this place is for you. I had the choose 6 tacos for $20. Great price for downtown Chicago but the quality of the tacos were average at best. The Elote was horrible. Great selection of Tequilas and the Bartender was very attentive.

We got the six assorted tacos which were all quite good, especially the Tinga chicken. The guacamole was average--a bit too bland for me but OK with hot sauce. The dessert--churros with vanilla ice cream--was outstanding. The decor is very funky and irreverent Mexican.

I have wanted to try Broken English Taco Pub for a while now. I stopped in at 6 pm and was seated outside. After waiting a good 15 to 20 minutes, a waitress finally showed up to take my order. I ordered the tacos al pastor de pollo and a diet coke. I didn't receive water, the diet coke or anything else until the tacos came out. After finishing the tacos, I finally received my diet coke. Meanwhile, the tables around me had been served a couple rounds of margaritas, chips, etc.. I asked for the check and ended up paying $12 for two small tacos and a diet coke. No chips, no sides (rice, beans, etc.), nothing else. Not worth it.

This is a very nice little gem in the middle of the hustle and bustle along Michigan & Lake Ave, which I like to drop by when I am in . The Margaritas are very good and the food menu is just what you would expect. The quality is very good! The salsa are not your run of the mill. They are home made recipes that will entice you to order more chips or maybe just one more Taco! The only down side is the music inside is just way too loud

Amazing food, creative menu, wonderful drinks with a twist all served in a fun atmosphere. It can get a little loud, but it's a fun, casual place This restaurant is a super bargain considering the quality of the food and drink. Definitely check this place out!!

Excellent delicious food! The manager Mike came to our table to ensure us that my son with an egg allergy could eat safely. He himself has food allergies and his staff are VERY good about ensuring people can eat safely. I HIGHLY recommend this place. ‘A balanced diet has a taco in each hand.’

Small, cute and loud! Great Latin pub vibe! The tacos were amazing! I had the roasted chicken thighs w pineapple. Honestly, making my mouth water again. We had chips and guacamole and salsa to start. Very good salsa! Best margarita in town! Service was EXCELLENT! Great place to hang with friend or have a quick meal!

Was in Chicago last weekend and we went there for tacos/nachos, palomas, margaritas. Had the cauliflower tacos (excellent) and fish (excellent). Palomas and Margaritas. Don't want to sound overly complimentary--no kidding, all of it was great. The thing that I really like on top of that was the look--wild painting of mexican street art everywhere, but also have to point out the above and beyond service, by Dalia and Cam the manager. We were totally attended to, pacing was right, table was cleaned, our requests were honored, food was brought out quickly. Had a fantastic time and spend many hours there. Have TVs to watch the games if you want to. Totally recommend this place.

First of all the shrimp tacos are AMAZING!!!!!!!! I haven't had a bomb shrimp taco like this is forever. Also order the pitcher of margarita. It's verrrrrrrrrry good! Honestly, this place is winning all around. The location, the food and the drinks are ALL a hit!

This can be a fun place but it can also be a bit obnoxious. Taco Tuesday be warned that it will be very busy and loud. The music makes it hard to talk to others and it can get a bit out of control for a smaller place. They do have outdoor seating when it is nice but be prepared to wait if a nice day. The tacos are good but very small and don’t expect to get too full but on Tuesday they are $1 so can’t beat it.

Great location to our downtown hotel, easy to get a table, two-taco plates are plenty, very tasty salsas with handmade tortilla chips. Big problem-both carnitas and brisket were HEAVILY salted. Way too salty to the point I could not finish.

We tried 3 different tacos — mix & match 6 tacos for $27; all were fantastic. And the house margarita was great. Will definitely return.

Small, but lively taco place with great food and margaritas. Service was very welcoming and table Setting was very casual. Overall a nice atmosphere for a night out in Chicago.

We've eaten here several times and the flavours are the star here. Service is friendly and fast but the food just stands out. It's very funky and always busy for a very good reason!

Anytime I go to a Mexican restaurant where I have to pay for chips and salsa, I get irritated. On the bright side, the queso fundido is fantastic and the atmosphere is fun and bright.

We were out walking down Michigan Ave heading towards Millennium Park and were getting hungry. Taco's were in order. I ordered the fried chicken taco and pork belly pastore taco. They both were unreal. My wife had carne asada and pork pastore...also really good. Our server was excellent. We will be back!!

We ended up at this place by chance with 6 of us, ranging from teens to a grandma. All of us loved it. The tacos were really delicious. Grandma felt that the guacamole was too salty so the owner came out and apologized, made her a fresh batch to her liking AND removed it from the bill. Both food and service were top notch. The atmosphere was super fun and lively too.

The hostess and our server were very friendly and efficient. The food had great flavor and was good quality. Loved the decor and the music.

We sampled a variety of tacos through the family-style six for $20 platter. Along with two draft beers and chips & salsa, the tab was around $40 with tax. For a downtown dining option, that’s reasonable. It’s loud, festive, and colorfully decorated.

Was a fun little Mexican restaurant. Good food and prices! Great and quick service! They were definitely on it there.

So here's the thing...let me preface my review by saying that I was with three other ladies that had a terrible experience at Broken English. My friends and I were excited to do Taco Tuesday: Chicago Edition and we had planned a week in advance to have dinner at Broken English. We made a reservation and arrived on time only to be told that we had to wait for a table. The waiting area is very small with limited seating so we were forced to stand for about 30 minutes before a table became available. The table was right at the door and it was COLD! Our server was Raul. He took our drink order while we perused the menu. I ordered a classic margarita that was pretty good. My friends also enjoyed their margaritas. On taco Tuesday they offer $2 tacos, but only 4 types are sold for that price. I had the Camarones (Shrimp) Tacos. They were very good!!! By the way, this establishment does not have straws. They also do not have complimentary chips and salsa and the tacos do not come with a side of rice and beans. So when you order tacos....you get tacos only! Since my friends did not have a good experience, the manager Steve came out to try to correct the issues they had. He gave us a round of shots and he even took a shot with us. In the end, it turned out fine. Just don't expect a full meal. It's more of a taco snack with great drinks! The tequila shots helped though....we laughed for the rest of the night!

I was expecting rice, beans ... Be aware - they ONLY serve taco’s and burritos... But - these are not typical taco’s .... very modern and eclectic - but it works so well.... try the fried chicken taco... yum... NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN . No kids menu’s and the taco’s are all very eclectic and too sophisticated for a kids palate ..... Very (VERY) loud / cool music and it is a Meet up place for an adult beverage and taco... Highly recommend for a beer and tacos.....

The Fried Chicken Taco were surprisingly delicious! Eclectic taco shops, the 6 tacos for $20 were a pretty good deal. Cocktails were good and around $12

Awesome place with great tacos and good drinks. Service was a bit slow, but BF and I went on a really crowded day, so not their fault. Would return!

Very trendy taco place. The menu seemed a little limited. We had a male server who was very friendly and attentive. The margaritas were great and the tacos seemed very authentic and flavorful.

I am honestly not a big fan of tacos, but I had to order more, because they were delicious. Definitely recommend.

Very filling food with an authentic and homemade taste. I had the fish tacos and chips and queso. Delicious and very filling. Quick service and handy location close to the tourist areas. The interior seems cosy but we chose the patio for people watching. One of the best meals we had in Chicago.

Was in Chicago for four days and ate here twice. My wife and I had the cod, brisket and fried chicken tacos, all were amazing. Margaritas are well made by the ladies behind the bar and their service was great. The place has a cool vibe with some tv screens with sports on and tunes cranking in the background. I would recommend and would definitely go back if I’m in Chicago again.

Overall excellent taco's and service at a reasonable price. Went here with a group for a pre-theater dinner. We had a total of 7 and they were able to seat us at one large table. Started with drinks, chips and queso. I loved the Rojo Sangria. The margarita was disappointing though, it lacked overall flavor and could barely taste any tequila. Queso was great, was a large portion so ended up asking for 2nd basket of chips. Our group got a variety of taco's and the quesadillas. All were excellent. I especially enjoyed the fried chicken taco, and the fish (cod) taco. Each had the right amount of heat. Service was great. Friendly, helpful and efficient. Only downside to the restaurant is the volume. Is it is REALLY LOUD. The music volume is frankly too high, you have to shout above it - you can't really have a nice conversation with your guests. I'd recommend their patio instead when the weather allows.

Delightful eclectic taco pub --located off the Magnificent Mile. Great tacos, lively atmosphere and overall great margueritas!

My seminar was right across the street, so this was a great pick for lunch - show before noon, it packs up quickly! By myself, I sat at the end of the bar near the entry - not such a good idea when it is cold outside! The doors do not close by themselves and the cold air poured in! But the tacos and the sauce were hot! And the chips were some of the best I have ever had - the green sauce was my favorite.

Great food and great service with a fun eclectic atmosphere. Our waitress was very friendly, we had the chicken tacos and loved them.

Good tacos. The restaurant felt very authentic ... food and decor. Frendly staff. I specially loved the restaurant interior design walls... I was once on holidays in mexico during Dia de los muertos and the restaurant reminded me that trip.

We had about an our left before we were heading to the airport to return home, and the staff at Virgin Hotels suggested this location. I was happily surprised with the quality and taste of the food. The steak tacos were juicy and filling. The guacamole and chips were fresh. The server was able to get us out in 30 minutes!

We stopped for lunch during a cold winter day for a different choice from the usual American food. Cute local and very kind staff, they even put us the series game live because they had seen that we were watching it from the phone. Good food, super plentiful burritos but also very good tacos

Good taco sit-down in Old Town that regularly draws in a lively crowd. Not the best tacos in town but an overall fun place to hang out and good for watching games as well. A little bit more pricey than similar taco spots around the city but fast service and decent specials. Not necessarily the first go-to but an easy option to always have on the table in the neighborhood.

The food is tasty and the service very good. Maybe this is standard for Chicago, but everything cost extra. We didn't realize the chips and guacamole cost an extra $9.00. All Mexican restaurants, in my experience, serve the chips with the meal.

Stopped here for lunch and it was a fun spot. The atmosphere was loud and so was the music. The service was really good. We were there for taco Tuesday ($2 a taco) so pretty much tried one of each taco and they were good- spicy! The guac was good too!

Street tacos are becoming more commonplace so good riddance to the days of Taco Bell tacos. These are not the traditional Mexican street tacos but a kind of Tex-Mex Americanized tacos. They are really good! My wife and I split the brisket and the carne asada tacos. Both were outstanding although the carne asada seemed more like barbacoa. The only other thing to remember is if you have a bigger appetite I'm not sure if two tacos will be enough. Street tacos tend to be on the smaller side so for a normal appetite, three should be enough. Either that or load up on chips and salsa... Otherwise, we really enjoyed our time there before a show at the Chicago Theater.

I was excited to try Broken English as I thought the menu sounded good. Upon arriving I felt the staff was cold and unwelcoming. The food was good, but the atmosphere didn't make it worth the visit. Wouldn't recommend.

Yes, it's loud and colorful and it's just a pub. If you like to sit quietly you won't be happy here. But we loved it: the very diverse crowd, people laughing and chatting, music, the many screens showing baseball, the super tasty tacos and margaritas and the best quesadilla ever. You can have fun here. The service is more so-so.

Best margaritas in the loop! Service is great especially with Jesse J!! For food, the nachos and queso fundido are definitely recommended!!

Tacos are mediocre at best. Carne Asada very dry and barely seasoned. Quesadilla like mush because flour tortilla saturated with juices from meat mixture. Service ok but not as attentive as you’d like. Had to request some drinks and food items twice - food came out quick though. Value not there at all. Also no kids options that were more mainstream. Salsas are more like waters. Absolutely disgusting.

Flavorful tacos, fresh ingredients. We had the 6-pack, 6 different choices of tacos for $30. Corn tortillas. Casual, friendly servers.

What fun little find around the corner from Michigan Avenue. This place has wonderful Mexican food and a fun/bright atmosphere with amazing waitstaff. My table of friends enjoyed a selection of street tacos and were extremely happy with the flavor and service.

The place was very busy when we arrived around 5:30 on a Tuesday. It seems very popular with locals. We opted to eat outside rather than wait 45 minutes to get a table inside. It was a little chilly, but gas flame heaters took the edge off. We ordered chips and guacamole- the guac was pretty good. The tacos were amazing, however. We split a tray of six, three barbacoa and three fried chicken. Very, very yummy! Overall, portion sizes are small (orders are typically two tacos- no sides included); the tray of six was not quite enough for my metabolically gifted husband and myself. But we knew that coming in, and were planning to graze elsewhere afterwards. There was no sign of any Taco Tuesday deal, unlike what previous reviewers have mentioned; I assume it’s no longer a thing. But the tacos were great- we would totally come back... and order a tray of twelve!

Went to Broken English Taco for the first time. Greeted warmly on rainy summer Saturday in Chgo and decided to sit at the bar to enjoy a Cubs game on the TV while also enjoying some original taco's. Atmosphere is casual southwestern. Taco selection was extensive and we shared the Guacamole and Chips were excellent. The pork and chicken Tacos were also very tasty. I have to say were very impressed with the food as we were in the mood for some authentic tacos.

What a cute and cozy place! Sit at the bar or gather a group around the tables, either way, you enjoy Mexican beer and great tacos! The chips and salsa and guacamole started everything off just right!

Really enjoyed dining for lunch. Our server Samantha was very attentive and provided good service! We tried the shrimp tacos, the fish tacos, and the fried chicken tacos...the shrimp was our favourite, although the other two were good too. The salsa that came with the chips were delicious! The highlight would definitely be the bottomless mimosa special on a Sunday! Our drinks were consistently topped up and we got great value for our meal!

I see reviews all the time and usually there is the customary "Compliment ,..... But...." I can simply tell you that we liked everything about this place and will bring the kids back for our summer vacay in DT Chicago. We dived into the joint for lunch, drank well, had great Tacos and I want the managers Pandora playlist. Lots of suits and heels. Rightly so, the staff had lots of energy and were very courteous.

Sat in for some great tacos made with corn tortillas. The price is good for big city standards, six mix and match tacos for $20. Could feed 3 people if you are not starving. The drinks are inventive and a little sweet too. Overall nice and lively place to be and well situated in the heart of things.

We popped in for a quick bite after vising Millennium Park. Drinks are cold, food was good. The green salsa is delicious. I imagine this place gets crowded with the after-work crowd for happy hour.

We visited on a Thursday where most tacos are $3 each. We tried 3 different ones (carne asada, al pastor chicken and pork carnitas), and they were all excellent. The service was great and the decor inside was very interesting. I would have ate a lot more if we weren’t going to other places. Highly recommend. Will definitely be back!

Tacos were awesome but the music made having a conversation tough. The pork belly and carne asada were the best.

Loved this place! Everything was great from the decor to the food. Chicago isn’t cheap, but this was one of the cheapest meals I had. You got 2 tacos for $7-9 depending on what type. Chips and salsa were an extra $4, but worth it!

Three of us stopped here for tacos before a concert nearby. We tried the 6 for $20 taco platter, which was a great deal and a great way to try different tacos. The favorites were the pork belly pastor, fried chicken, and fish tacos. The carne asada was good, but not as good as the others. And the pava pibil was good, but definitely hot. Their margs are solid, but not the best I've ever had. Overall a good spot to stop for some tacos and the service was great.

I’m already missing this place. Met up with another couple for a drink and then off to explore the city. We should have stayed and ate. All the food looks delicious. I need to go back!!!

Picked this place on a whim while looking for lunch near our hotel. Our server was terrific, taking the time to give us an overview of the menu since it was our first time visiting. He recommended the 6 tacos for $20, which we wound up ordering. You can order all 6 the same or all 6 different, or any variation in between. I'm not a big fish guy, but tried one of the fish tacos because it sounded good--it was tremendous. Had an order of chips and salsa, too--you get a couple different salsas, and there are more varieties in bottles and jars at the table. Nice selection of beers, and I believe they offer cocktails, too. Inside has a great vibe, with lots of interesting murals everywhere, including the bathroom doors. We were there at the height of the lunch rush but were served quickly and had a great time. Food was high caliber without being crazy expensive. Would definitely return.

The tacos, service, and vibe are fantastic. The churros are amazing. We were in Chicago visiting family and tried several restaurants in the area. Broken English was so good we went there twice, and we enjoyed it even more the second time.

Good place for brunch in the city! Cute outdoor seating area for nice days. They have plates of tacos you can share so you can try as many as you like while sharing with friends. Good drink menu & quality ingredients also. Recommend if you're looking for Mexican/Latin brunch!

My GPS on my phone was going crazy, maybe because of the tall buildings, so I thought this place was miles away. I finally looked it up on a flat Google map and found out it was right down the street from my hotel. Decided to walk over there for happy hour dinner and was not disappointed. I sat at the bar. Bartender recommended a $4 Happy Hour Victoria beer and I really enjoyed that, a nice change from Modelo Negra. I ate two Al Pastor De Pollo and two Fried Chicken tacos, enjoyed them all, and was comfortably full after that and I am a big eater. The flavors are amazing. Heading back tomorrow for $2 Taco Tuesday and looking forward to it. Service is great and everyone is friendly. The vibe of the place is also really cool.

Went to one of my FAVORITE places in the South Loop today... Broken English is like the rebellious little sister that was really into My Chemical Romance in high school. Cutting its own path... Flipping a giant bird to the “posh” and “chic” surroundings of the south loop. The food is experimental yet traditional and makes absolute sense on the tastebuds. Chile De Arbil Sauce with Cinnamon..?! Sounds crazy... and it is... it also tastes crazy. Crazy good! The playlist doesn’t make any sense... one second you’re listening to obscure Latin Pop Fusion... a Mariachi Mega Mix... the next, you’re back in 1988 and “Addicted to Love”... and somehow... it works. The mood is up. The service is great. The atmosphere is amazing. the wall art, top notch. And the food... Fantastic, surprising and diverse flavors seem to dance on your tongue to the wildly eclectic playlist. Highly recommend ALL of it. If you’re in Chicago... stop at Broken English.

Amazing service - The bartender with the brunette hair and glasses (don't know her name unfortunately) was attentive. The drinks are strong...which I like. Even the 50% happy hour drinks - I got the frozen margarita. The food was really good (chicken tacos) and ESPECIALLY the guacamole and chips...probably the best I have ever had. My food came out really fast!! I felt comfortable sitting at the bar by myself as a single traveler. I will definitely be back when I'm in the area!

We went to this restaurant on a Tuesday night, which happened to be $2 taco night. Service was friendly and ridiculously fast. Margaritas were tasty, as were the tacos. It seemed like a pretty popular place with the after-work crowd, so can be a little noisy.

Stopped for lunch. Great handmade margaritas and the best nachos ever (and we are nacho snobs)!!! Manager named Alan checked in with us as we were leaving and made our day by offering a couple tequilla shots. Highly recommend!

This is a cute little bar with inside and outside seating. The food was great. We ordered the quesadilla and several different kinds of tacos. The carne asada steak was my husband and son’s favorite. Our waiter was great. He was super busy with lots of tables but did a great job!

Went around 9pm on a saturday night. The ambience was a bit of a turnoff since music was too loud to allow conversation, but the food was great. Ordered two different small plates of tacos. Each had a harmony of fresh distinct flavours with the fish and chicken cooked to savory excellence.

the atmosphere was very friendly... lot of people around and nice interiors. Food was OK, nothing exceptional, nothing bad...

Tacos...Second best to Mexico City! And the margaritas are to be sipped at lunch... delicious and strong. Great find

The place is nice and a very interesting concept. Not the best Tacos ever like other reviews have suggested. Ordered Tacos Al Pastor - Pork and Chicken, Carne Asada, and the Fried Chicken Taco. Although the tacos Al Pastor Pork were good but not a traditional Taco Al Pastor. Missing the spice and pineapple. The carne aside tacos were good nothing to write home about. Tried the Fried Chicken Taco on the recommendation of the server and it was alright, again nothing to write home about or recommend. My biggest complaint was the salsa. I was recommended bottled vinegar salsa to get some spice. That is just out right heresy. The ginger "orange sales and tomatillo salsa that was brought to the table sucked. Any one who knows true home made authentic salsa would agree with me. Bottled salsa should not be an option or a primary choice for spice at a Taqueria. With Chicago having the Mexican culture that it does, the poor salsa choices truly surprised me.On a positive note, the house margarita was good and would recommend, the lunch atmosphere was great, the decor was interesting and service was great.

Went there twice in a row. What an incredible find! Best thing I ate the whole week in Chicago! Really exceptional! From service (the owner comes around) to the food and their fruity seltzers! There isn't much to the menu other than delicious tacos, guac'n'chips and those churros in gelato. But that is ALL you need. Tacos are varied and one is better than the next. The dessert is to die for. The fruit seltzes are addicting. I cannot recommend this place enough and told all my Chicago locals to go there!

What a wonderful surprise this place was! We were seated immediately (reservations are highly recommended) and ordered chips and queso with the house margarita. All delicious. The restaurant was starting a Dia de Muertos celebration weekend, so very crowded. Service was cheerful and attentive. Crowd was much younger than we are, but we felt very comfortable. We ordered a 6- taco plate. The brisket was fantastic, the fried cod was good and the shrimp, forgettable. The churros we ordered for dessert were the best I’ve ever had.

...and a very solid margarita! Erica our waitress was super friendly. The food and drinks came out quickly. The fried chicken taco is unbelievable; I normally go hard for the fish tacos but had to order a second serving.

Had reservations for this place, and we were pretty excited. As we began the server took forever to come to the table and when he did, he was incredibly rude. The food ended up being okay, but the service knocked this experience down a lot.

Great place for a lunch with friends. Exceptional tacos, interesting and different flavors. Can't wait to go back!

We went inside and asked if we could sit outside and were told, sit where we like. That in itself is reasonable although it would have been appreciated if we could have been given menus. They have a system where you scan a QR code at the table but if the restaurant has WiFi we couldn’t see it (we joined a museum’s WiFi, was very clunky). We are on holiday from the UK and using mobile data is VERY expensive for us. No one came within 5-10 mins so I approached a server (this was a pre-theatre dinner), and at that point another server came & they discussed back and forth who would take our order. I asked for a glass of red wine, was really disappointed and surprised to find they don’t offer wine, so asked if they offer any darker beers. The server mentioned numerous beers none of which I recognised (and my question remained unanswered). I wanted a drink so ordered a margarita, one of my less preferred drinks. I found some of the tacos OK, some a bit stodgy. Again it was a disadvantage that we had no physical menu otherwise we could have focused a bit more on getting the order right. It’s my understanding that if you don’t give 20% tip in the US you are insulting the server so I gave it - but it wasn’t really merited.

3 of us shared the nacho plate and 6 different tacos. it was more than enough. the tacos were delicious and interesting. though, the fish taco was a bit greasy, but the rest were great. The horchata was not overly sweet as it is at too many places.

Amazing tacos at a great price. Local feel in downtown area that makes a great alternative to the restaurant chains. Every taco was amazing!

The food was very tasty and reasonably priced. We had a sample of the tacos and the breakfast burrito. I will say the margaritas left something to be desired. We got a pitcher, so we gave them a fair shot. They leave a bitter aftertaste in your mouth, so I suggest trying the sangria or something else.

The tacos are SO amazing! We tried the following: AL PASTOR DE POLLO, CAMARONES, CARNE ASADA and FRIED CHICKEN. I can't decide between the de pollo or fried chicken, but the pineapple was SUCH a fun twist on a taco when it hits you with a little spice. Service was excellent, happy hour was affordable and they have Taco Tuesday where all taco's are $2. If you are looking for a quick and delicious bite to eat in the loop, I highly suggest Broken English!

The food was good but spicy. The nachos are enough for two people. The drinks were strong lol my wife said to strong. The dessert was was so good. I can't forget the good customer service.

Asked for some white wine unfortunately this restaurant Only had rose wine which at $14 was expensive Maybe this is the normal price for this area

Sometimes you just need some yummy tacos in your life. Always a go-to when I need a taco fix and a drink. They also have Taco Tuesday specials.

Unique vibe and some unusual taco flavour choices made this a great evening meal for myself and some colleagues. We enjoyed the 12 platter with different varieties plus a special beer they had on offer that day. Great experience and genuinely pleasant staff.

It was St. Paddy's weekend in Chicago so it was extra busy. After a concert at the Chicago Theatre, we were ready for some grub and cocktails. We started with green beer (Tecate) and a margarita. My beer was warm and my wife's margarita in a small crappy glass was average. The chips and salsa were decent. We did enjoy the tacos. I had the pork belly al pastor tacos and my wife had the carne asada. Aside from the bad drinks, it was a good late night stop.

I had dinner at Broken English Taco Pub with my girlfriend from Mexico City. She agreed with my assessment that the food is outstanding. Great ambiance and friendly prompt service as well. We look forward to next time.

My son and I love tacos. The outside of this building looks small and sloppy. The inside is huge and cute. We ordered the 6 tacos for 20 and quacamole. The quac was very good and the seafood taco was awesome. The pork and carne asade were just ok. I may go back again but not expect too much

Stopped in after a baseball game and was pleasantly surprised how amazing everything was! Tacos were delicious and the margaritas were definitely worth the price. Had gluten free options for my celiac husband. Highly recommend

We had the best lunch here on our first ever trip to Chicago. Our server was so friendly and helpful. Not just with menu but tips for things to do in the city. The manager, Trevor, was exceptional. Sat with us and made us feel very welcome in his city! The tacos were very very good. This was our first meal in the city and a great introduction!

We stopped by because the little closed in fires tempted us. Had sangria and a house margarita, both excellent. But then came the tacos...pork carnitas was so juicy and delicious, carne asada equally flavorful. Try the verde sauce on top, you won’t regret it!

I'm always a fan of Christmas lights strung up anywhere, and the murals on the wall are really interesting and neat. We ordered a bucket of beer and enjoyed the tacos, which were amazing. Can't wait to return.

The ambience is loud and energetic, oh and colourful too. Service is S. L. O. W. A tortoise could cross the highway faster than the meal gets to your table. The menu is limited and does not advise size of tacos but let me tell you they are little tacos. Beware of the spice levels if you aren't a fan of spice, so clarify flavours first. Its expensive for America given the portions. We were tourists and lets just say we have seen bigger and better :-D Nice to visit for a drink I'd say. A good meal... mmm...

What a local gem! Amazing margaritas, authentic tacos, queso fundido and great service.🤘❤️ You Must have the churro ice cream dessert Omg!!! Absolutely the best! No, seriously the best!! 🌮🌶🍐🍹🍮🍦🌮

Happened by this place on our way back to our hotel and loved it. Sat on their outdoor patio and enjoyed the quick service and tasty food. Not a huge menu but what they offered was excellent. Had the guacamole to start and then some beef and shrimp tacos and wasn't disappointed. Lovely presentation as well.

My niece and I travelled to Chicago from Ohio for the long weekend. This was our first stop, and we were both soooooo glad we did. The atmosphere was bright and fun. Our server was excellent, friendly, and helpful. Tacos were so delicious, guacamole was to die for, and the Rose sangria was just what I needed after a long bus ride! We had a great experience here and it was probably our favorite stop while in Chicago, we are looking forward to coming back on our next trip!

Over 8000 restaurants in Chicago and I picked the wrong one. The beef tacos were very chewy and not much flavour. The chicken one was good and the pork belly was ok. Nothing exciting or special about this place.

Able to get a table inside that felt like it was outside because of the open windows. We got the 12 taco platter and this was more than enough for the 4 of us. The barbacoa tacos were the best of all the ones we tried, but the rest were all good too. The alcohol can be amazingly expensive, go during happy hour if you're not used to Chicago prices.

We stopped here cause we couldn't decide on anything else. So when all else fails, get some tacos! Funny thing is, wife got steak tacos and I got a burger. She liked the tacos and I loved the burger. It was huge! Two fresh all beef patties, cheese, guacamole, served on a brioche bun. It was amazing! I could only eat half. Two people could easily split this meal. Fries were good too. I wasn't crazy about the chips and salsa as an appetizer. Good salsa, different, but not great. Atmosphere was definitely fun and funky. 80s music, hot pink paint, high top tables, TVs. Good location.

These were, quite possibly the worst tacos we’ve ever had. Crappy tortillas, dry flavourless fillings and completely disinterested staff. The margueritas were equally as bad. I wouldn’t bother. Go elsewhere!

Taco Tuesday-good deal on tacos, served on corn tortillas. Loved the Carnitas and the chicken and porkbelly Al Pastor. Not a big fan of the Tinga, too tomatoey for me but also tried and enjoyed the Steak tacos as well. Only downer-paid WAY too much for "presidential" Margaritas that were very small and NOT made with top shelf liquor or Gran Marnier as advertised and probably the worst we have ever had. Bartender in a rush and too difficult to catch to fuss with but wouldn't order a Marg-stick with Modelo or other...

This place is awesome. Great food, awesome music and atmosphere. The place was really good decorated. I love the art pints on the walls. The tacos and the margaritas are something else.

We were walking downtown Chicago and trying to find a chill place to eat. We walked by Broken English and it had such an awesome atmosphere that we wanted to check it out. Not only were there margaritas tasty, but there food was outstanding. The different kinds of salsa were phenomenal and their food was insanely authentic and delicious. There staff also couldn't have been more friendly. I highly recommend this place!!

I would give more stars if possible. I went twice while visiting Chicago for my first time. It’s a pricey area of town but I still enjoyed every meal and drink.

Went on taco Tuesday and had cheap and very delicious tacos and margaritas. This place is lively and fun. Even though it was packed when we were there, the service was very fast and the servers were friendly.

I went alone on Tuesday during happy hour. It was busy both inside and outside. A young crowd, under 30 and lively. I only had margaritas but they were good. The food other’s were served I constantly overheard how good it was. Would like to go back and eat.

Bottomless Mimosas, great food. Friendly service. We would definitely come back! The tacos were delicious

Went there for a late lunch. The veggie tacos were good and so were the guacamole and chips. Service was a little slow.

Huge burrito, very tasty. It was filled to the brim with pork. Strong drinks, too! Was very quiet on the day/time we were in, but still had a great atmosphere.

Came here with a group and hot a lot fun: enjoyed a variety of tacos and some great Cervezas (Modelo, Corona, Victoria) during a Dia de los Muertos promotion. It got pretty crowded, though you could easily find space if you wanted ti.

We were disappointed with our visit to Broken English Taco Pub. The highlights were the atmosphere and the service. We were seated right away. I thought the menu was limited but I knew this before going. You have to pay for chips and salsa and refills of chips. Also, the only soft drinks that were offered for my teenagers were Coke in the bottle. So no free refills there either. My husband and I split a tray of 6 tacos. They were good, not outstanding. We each had a one drink and shared a small appetizer. My boys had two small tacos each. Dinner was $100 which I thought was way overpriced for what we received.

The restaurant is cool esthetically! The server Julio V was amazing. The queso was to die for. The 6 tacos I shared with my husband and the flavors were out of this world! Highly recommend. The price was extremely economical.

My wife and I are hanging out in downtown Chicago to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we wanted to find a place by our hotel for a late lunch. We stopped here and had excellent service (from Mike) and really enjoyed our food. The food was fresh, very tasty, and came surprisingly fast. Highly recommend!

That TACO sign with an arrow caught my eye from Michigan Ave. so I crossed the street to check it out. Traveling solo, I was hesitant but the waitress reassured me that it was not an issue. I was directed to a table by an open wall and got immediate attention from waitstaff. The open wall allowed for a wonderful breeze and people watching. You can also sit at a table outside. Happy Hour rocks with $4 Corona Lights and $6 margaritas. I ordered 2 corn tortilla tacos with chicken, slaw and sauce. The chips and salsa came with authentic salsa. The tacos only took a few minutes. Although I wouldn't call this "cheap eats" the prices were very reasonable. They were spectacular! I would definitely go back.

Not a great visit! 1st table seating was so close we couldn’t fit. We asked to be reseated and were sat a table that was wobbly and off balance. Food was ok but nothing spectacular. Didn’t like that you had to pay for chips, and margaritas seemed overpriced even for downtown.

Was craving Mexican food and this hit the spot. Not a huge menu but absolutely enough for us to be happy. It is an ideal place for groups heading out for the night. It sure would put you in the mood to party. Yes, the music's loud. We loved how some other groups sang along with the songs, it really was a fun atmosphere. You MUST try the dessert...chocolate filled churros with pomegranate ice cream....Wow, wow, wow!

Authentic, delicious tacos. this is a bustling, busy place a little noisey (as expected), great location. We were able to get seated and fed and out in thirty minutes. The right amount of food and the cost was reasonable.

Selected this place for an early dinner while exploring downtown on foot. The food was good and inexpensive but both seating areas (indoor and outdoor) were very noisy. The waitress initially brought us the wrong check (quite a bit more expensive than our actual one), but it was fixed after bringing it to her attention.

I recently visited Broken English Taco Pub on Lake Street. BETB is located just off Michigan Ave on Lake Street and for anyone in the neighborhood for either Grant Park or the Arts Institute or registering protests at Daley Plaza , it is a welcome refuge for some afterward-cocktails. Their cocktails are thankfully, always consistently good despite the recent downturn in the hospitality industry in Chicago. While the food was enjoyable ($3 per taco and $9 cocktails on Thursday) and the atmosphere lively, the overall experience was diminished by an unexpected charge. I requested my margaritas to be made spicy and was later surprised to find a $3 surcharge per drink added to the bill—without any prior notice from the staff. Transparent communication around such modifications would have been appreciated. A pleasant spot overall, but I recommend confirming any customizations to avoid surprises.

Went with my hubby and our three young adults. The music was little loud for my taste. The food was served promptly and was delicious. Server was friendly and attentive.

I stumbled across this small but great Taco joint. The food was excellent as was the service. I ate at the bar as it was really crowded during lunch. Nice selection of hot sauces and house made salsas as well. Going back for their happy hour, great selection of top shelf tequilas.

This is a “can’t miss” for Mexican food enthusiasts. The carnitas tacos were incredible as well as the borderlands brisket tacos. The margaritas were also great.

This is a small restaurant that is a hidden gem. The food and service were good. The tacos are "street taco" size not full size. This place is VERY loud, so be prepared. I tried the chicken and steak tacos. My hubby had fish tacos. We were very happy with the taste of the food.

We had really good tacos, so good I forgot to take a picture of it and a big portion of nachos to share [...] Check out for more on my blog! Link in my bio!

Wonderful food, solid service. The house salsas are unique and delicious, and the margs are tasty. Love the feel of this unique taco bar and will definitely return next time I’m in Chicago.

A really good vibe for a dinner with friends! The place is awesome and lets you enjoy some fresh and tasty margaritas or beers while enjoying the colorful atmosphere. Noce selection of tacos to combine and try. Very much recommended :)

Fantastic food and outstanding service from Emilio. Tasty tacos and delicious chips and salsa. Food was served hot and fast which was important when you have limited time.

Went for drinks after work but very disappointed with both drinks and food. The chips were uncooked and salsa had gone bad. The server gor us another bottle of salsa and that had gone bad too. Drinks seemed diluted too. Overall a poor experience. We are not picky customers but unfortunately, didnt have a good experience at this location.

A nice terrace and great interior is probably all that place has. We paid 42$ for 2 portions of 2 small, barely filled tacos, a beer and a marg. No water, no chips as a side and the service was not the best either.

The taco’s where SO good! The nachos Also. Very good price quality range. The interieur design was Also spot on. The only thing was that the music was VERY loud

Stopped here to warm up after looking at the bean. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. The service was fast. The group had a couple of different things and there were no complaints. We had the Pork tacos, Beef tacos, a beef burrito and the chicken burrito and everyone was happy. When we are back in Chicago we will make it a point to stop in again

I can't vouch for everything on the menu, but the tacos were great and reasonably priced for downtown.

After walking around the city all day, we needed some late-night snacks. My husband walked over to Broken English from the Hard Rock Hotel. He ordered quickly, but it took about 10-15 minutes to get our food. Each order is for 2 street tacos. They were great! I had the chicken tacos - nice and spicy. My husband had the pork tacos and enjoyed those as well. We also split an order of churros. Great late night snack!

My friend and I shared chips and guac as a starter along with the 6 tacos for $20 deal. The tacos are small street tacos so if you are hungry I definitely suggested getting an appetizer to help fill you up. The food came very quickly and our waiter was very friendly. The frozen margaritas are also delicious! Food is a little pricey, you don't get much for how much you're paying but still worth trying out!

The steak tacos are delicious and the guacamole is SPICY, but good. It's a neat restaurant. Service was decent for a Monday afternoon. I would go back.

Fun young bar scene. Very casual. The drinks were made with inexpensive mixers unfortunately. The food was tasty and came out quickly. Not pricey. Big Bad Burrito was huge and can be split. OK place. Nothing fancy.

The tacos were rather small and too pricey. We ordered a second round of food to fill up. The margarita was disappointing. Service was OK, nothing special. We expected more.

What delicious tacos and great service after we ducked in here for a quick bite. Reasonable prices, friendly staff and convenient downtown location makes this a perfect lunch choice.

If you love tacos this is a place to go. Very nice restaurant and great atmosphere. Some good background music too. Food is real good. You can get 2 tacos for 7-8 USD or you could order 6 (different) for 20 USD. The last option is perfect to share for 2 persons. I think there nachos chips are a bit salty, but still very tasteful with salsa or guacamole.

Cool atmosphere with TVs for sports and excellent tacos. You can get a tray with 6 or 12 tacos to share and then mix and match between at least 6 different tacos with different protein. We had the beef and chicken tacos which were both so tasty. Salsas are unique and fresh! We did not have drinks but they have a wide range of cocktails. Will be back for sure

I was hoping for authentic Mexican but it was all a bit formulaic. Efficient service and a lively spot. Not silly prices

We were looking for a lunch spot on a Sunday. Another app was pointing to a different place with only two people inside. I held out for Broken English. Glad I did. Four of us had a pitcher of margaritas, awesome, and a couple of beers. Modelo on tap, two thumbs up. Then ordered a plate of tacos. 12 tacos mix and match. Carnitas A1, fish, awesome. Barbacoa, could have had more. Pork belly pastor, just like the DF. Skip the the fried chicken. Building awesome, sports, murals, and more. For those that live in old town, you lucky people.

Our visit was casual..casual expectations. Food & drink are great...service was not. Made things uncomfortable for our party.

We came across this taco pub while looking for a place to sit for a beer and have a quick bite for lunch and what a surprise! From the outside you would never know how lively it was inside! When we walked through the doors it was like bam! The service and food was amazing! The chips and salsa were so fresh and tasty I didn't want to stop eating! I had a quesadilla and my husband had the tacos! So perfect they just hit the spot! Atmosphere was cute, hippy and spunky! Only draw back was it was really noisy! It's definitely worth the stop!!

Ordered the nachos and 2 tacos. The nachos were filling and inexpensive. Didn’t have stomach room to try the tacos. The place was busy with plenty of large groups sharing platters of food. Service was attentive and friendly.

The cauliflower el pastor tacos and the al pastor de pollo tacos, along with chips and salsa, at the Broken English Taco Pub were delicious…even though a touch spicy for us. We just drank a lot of water. :) We were seated quickly upon arrival. Our server and other restaurant staff were attentive to us, checking in to see how our food tasted and refilling our drinks/waters. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu.

Fun and funky decor. Music was too loud for my taste. I like to enjoy a conversation over dinner. I am always a little suspect when my food arrives uber quick after I order...like 5 minutes. We ordered the family style tacos which are 6 for $20. The tacos are small, doubled but filled to the rim. While they were flavorful, they were lukewarm which caused some concern since one was shrimp and one was fish. Cheap dinner. Been there. Done that. Won’t do it again.

My wife works close by this restaurant wanted to take me here for lunch. There is outdoor seating as well as indoor. The outdoor seating is covered by scaffolding at this time but still wasn’t much of a bother and we chose to sit outside. We started out with a order of guacamole and chips for $9.00. The chips were good but the guacamole was on the small side. We also ordered another basket of chips when the first one ran out and they charged an extra two bucks for that. We both ordered tacos for lunch. I ordered the Al Pastor De Pollo ones for $8.00 which is chicken marinated in chile guajillo, has charred pineapple and cilantro. Each taco order is two tacos. They’re on the smaller side but mine was good. My wife ordered the fried chicken tacos for $8.00 which is Baja style beer battered chicken, smoked cabbage slaw, ghost pepper mayo and cilantro. She enjoyed here’s as well. We just chose water for drinks since this place is a bit on the expensive side for lunch but considering the area that’s justifiable. We had a good lunch, the place looks pretty cool inside, if you’re in the area stop by and check it out.
Taco Tuesday like a boss!
I live for tacos. In fact on this day in particular I had tacos twice because to me, every tuesday is a national holiday in which we should all celebrate tacos. My gf and I were visiting chicago and picked broken english because the website was vibrant and colorful and they had an amazing happy hour, $4 beers, $6 margs and $2 tacos...yes, you heard correct, only...2...dollars. I went got the modelo on tap and 2 pork belly al pastor tacos. They were fabulous and juicy and just the right size. I also love chips and salsa and if the corner taqueria can give you a complementary snack size portion of chips and salsa I think Broken english could stand to offer some chips too, but not for $4/order. Pay attention to the menu when ordering the $2 tacos. Not all taco options are available for the $2 pricing but it doesn't say which are not, you have to ask. Still though, my friend ordered the fried chicken tacos, not $2 each, it was like $8 but they were totally worth it. I would def come here again.
