Competition for nearby Bethany's Table!

By PDXMichael B |

We had been meaning to try this Trattoria for some time – it is only 0.7 miles from our home. We used March’s “Dine Out Month” to sample the place at a slightly lower cost. We will be back! Because of the special priced menu (which had more choices than on most “Dine Out Month” menus) the restaurant was full and a little noisy. However, the wait staff handled the large crowd very well. David, the owner, came over to talk to us, and he was charming and very informative about the restaurant – their web site says you will become family, and they could well be right. Mandalyn, our wait person, was excellent, and when she realized we were from England, she brought over a colleague who was from Yorkshire as we are – talk about becoming family! All the food we sampled was very good, and we cannot understand some reviewers saying the portions were too small. We found the three courses a little too much for us, and when we return will probably not consider a dessert if we have appetizers – or may just have a main course. Both our appetizers were lovely – the Parmesan Polenta Cakes will probably become my choice every time, and my wife loved her Spinach Salad which had pancetta, gorgonzola, and crushed hazelnuts in it. Some people might consider Tiramisu a “too ordinary” dessert, but the version here is wonderful. As both of us love the concept of wine and food pairings and consume wine with all dinners, we would like an Italian restaurant such as this to concentrate more on Italian wines. They have some very good wines on the list, and I realize they do not have much storage space, and also need to carry some wines the average person can recognize. However, I would like them to increase slightly the proportion of Italian wines on the list. Italy has an incredible variety of wines, and Portland consumes much Italian wine and so many are available on the local market. What makes it even better is that some wines are Direct Imports by Oregon distributors which cuts out a “middle man’s” profit.

Romantic Italian dinner!

By MJ_EBs007 |

My husband and I had dinner here on a Sunday night for my birthday. We made reservations ahead of time, and I'm glad we did because this is a popular place. I wanted to find a nice romantic Italian restaurant on the westside and found this on a random search. The restaurant has a romantic intimate yet relaxed atmosphere. Some people were dressed up yet not required. We ordered Almond Salmon Limone and Spaghetti & Meatballs. Both were absolutely delicious. My husband kept raving the entire dinner about the bread & herb butter, the service, the atmosphere and especially the meatballs. This is a great place to go for Valentine's Day, birthday, anniversary or a special occasion. There was one family here but mostly adults. The menu offers both moderate to higher price items. We like to try different restaurants for special occasions to mix things up, but we will definitely be coming back again.

Finally the west side has a great restaurant

This is one of those places I almost hate to review as I don’t want it to get to popular. We just ran into it when we went to QFC. I walked in and saw the black booths and atmosphere and knew I had to check it out. My husband and I sat at bar and meet Dave pressing pomegranate for his specialty drink. The atmosphere was romantic and intimate but friendly and warm. We had a marvelous dinner of filet mignon. Dave gave suggestions of after dinner whiskey and he was right on task. They are opening a whiskey and wine bar next door and I can’t wait. This will be our go to for a fun great dinner.

agreesive rude manage

As we was having dinner there a manager at night was yelling at her cooks so loud we could hear it in the dinning room. Then she was handed a mallet and started yelling loudly and aggressive that my family and the table near us heard her say " I can use this on the people / customers that piss me off". As she was acting like she was smashing something. She was very loud the entire dinner and just not polite to her workers. When we was asked by Ella how our experience was. We shared to her how we came there for a celebration but had to experience this.( the food however was amazing so was the greeter and the dudes helping our table) This was Ella's reply: " Wow, I wish you had shared your opinion with us in- house so we could clarify your assumptions/ She is the manager and has a great relationship with our team and speaks clear and direct, not down to people. The mallet, which is a bar took, was a gift by our owner that night to the manger who was showing the kitchen staff, never once mentioning using on customers. I'm sorry you misunderstood the situation but we strive for professionalism and to make everyone comfortable during sever. Thanks for you feedback".

Please don't go

Not much to say. Service was OK. Hostess disappeared for awhile before seating us. Food not seasoned at all and medium quality at best. Never coming back, and this is a local restaurant.

The spinach ravioli was terrific, the atmosphere was great, and the service was excellent. I would recommend and will return.

Local Gem

We love this restaurant so much! We have been going since it opened and always have a very pleasing experience. We love the food, it has a unique twist to classic Italian; very fresh with amazing ingredient pairings. Servers are nice and friendly and it feels neighborly, warm and has a festive vibe. It does have high ceilings that allow for more noise, so you may struggle hearing if you are a larger group (I think that is worth noting in regards to it’s otherwise wonderful atmosphere). I highly recommend trying it!!!

The atmosphere was just what we were looking for. The food was fantastic, and the staff was very friendly and accommodating.

Mangia!

My Parents had been trying to get us to go with them after they have become some what regulars at this local eatery. I was like , Meh, Italian food. I don't eat pasta, I don't eat cheese, whats the point? Well, We finally acquiesced to going when brother and sister in law visited from the east and professed a love for all things Italian. With Dad making the reservation for our largish party of six we enjoyed a very nice evening at a very good restaurant. Several of our party had veal piccata and veal parmesan , one had lamb, one had eggplant and gnocchi and I had Mussels and clams and a salad. The food was excellent. Everyone enjoyed their selection. There where bitter greens in my salad that where offset beautifully by the dressing and pepper. The noodles I understand where perfectly al dente and made in house. Our waiter, Cole was attentive but not intrusive , wine and water glasses kept topped off. Pepper and Parmesan where offered and applied with out a fuss. The ambience is very cozy , the chairs comfortable. I personally loved the clam shell booths along the wall and the rustic, stripped napkins on the tables. If I could make one change it was to the bread. It arrived warm from the oven with a side of well salted butter. The bread leaned toward sour dough however and in my opinion if its sour in flavor then a sweet or unsalted butter should accompany it. Certainly with all the other strong flavors on the table, the bread could have been more mild. We will definitely be back, in fact I believe everyone was already planning what they would try next. I'll be saving more room for desert, the tiramisu and chocolate mousse where divine and certainly plentiful enough after dinner to share with two if not three people!

Happy Hour

So nice to have such a great establishment so close to home, Service is always quick, owners often comes over and talks to patrons. Nice touch especially for a restaurant in a shopping center.

Don't Go here - go anywhere else!

By California K |

Horrible Experience. Would not go back here. Manager was a real DB. Very crowded seating with tables right on top of each other. Definitely not ADA compliant. Made a reservation almost a month in advance and were seated at a table right between the in and out door to the kitchen, where there should not have been table in the first place. Told the seating host/manager this was unacceptable. He threw a hissy fit, so we left and went elsewhere. Kinda bummed. Being a native New Yorker and having just moved to the area, I had high hopes for this place. If you are the Owner of this establishment and you are reading this, you really should consider the manager you had on duty for New Year's eve.

The staff and experience were both exceptional!

By Jazzgal67 |

You know the place will be great when you get a “pregame” preview. I received a text message from Ella, asking how BT could make our night more special. She recommended some romantic gestures and I landed on rose petals for the table. I also chose the mocktails before arrival (both were delicious). Nudy was our hostess and she was attentive and helpful. She gave great suggestions, even down to the lemon cheesecake (grab a slice, so good!). Everything was beyond impressive and BT has now climbed to the top of this traveling, foodie couple’s list. Reason alone to return to Portland. Well done.

Great addition to neighborhood

By LaurettaYoung |

This area has really only one superb restaurant... Bethany's Table which is often totally booked so this will be a great addition for people who want a quiet, well served, superbly cooked meal with many options. Yes there is pasta but so much more! regional and seasonal dishes with amazing wines/cocktails and desserts. Great service. I am hoping they add lunch at some point.

Decent Food, Mediocre Service

By CatchnRelease1 |

Had dinner here with several friends. Had their spaghetti and meatballs with marinara sauce. Food was ok, prices were high for what we received. I feel the owners charge more due to the area it's in. Four of the six dinners needed parmesan cheese but it never came until we asked. Finally, a third of the way through our meal, the server obliged. Had to ask for water refills twice. Went for the three course dinner. The wedge salad was prepared nicely and was good. The chocolate mousse at the end was grainy and seemed piped out of a pastry pipe. Not good. We'll maybe go back for Happy Hour but that's about it. One annoying thing was the lighting in the place. Very high intensity clear, bright Edison lights hung from the ceiling. It messed with your vision.

Classic homestyle Italian-American cuisine!

By Mineo77 |

We absolutely love this place. It's a very frequent stop for us for dinner or even just happy hour. The food is great, always consistently prepared and done perfectly. The wine selection is nice and one of the most reasonably priced wine lists I have ever seen on this side of the pond. Service is good and the atmosphere is very cozy without distractions from TVs etc. Wouldn't pass this place up, very good find! Added bonus is that it's kid-friendly and 1/2-off wine night!

Excellent Italian-American Food and Service

By DewPortland |

David, the owner, greets every table to welcome guests to his new restaurant. He has researched the best menu items from the neighborhood restaurants in New York's Little Italy. Sinatra and Dean Martin sing softly in the background. My appetizer was a portobello mushroom stuffed with mozzarella and sausage. Yum! Cesar salad, warm bread and butter, and a glass of Italian wine accompanied my crab manicotti. There was lots of crab in the pasta tube covered in a bubbly cheese sauce. Awesome!! Service was prompt and friendly. On my next visit I plan to try one of the two chicken dishes or the steelhead. The only suggestion is that you wear a sweater or coat. There are two entry doors, front and back. When both are opened at the same time, cold air rushes through the restaurant. Prices are very reasonable for what you get.

Pleasant surprise in Bethany

By Mark T |

the wife and I were looking for a new place to eat and decided to give Brooklyn Trattoria a shot.don't let the location turn you off. inside there is a nice ambiance and seems like a neighborhood favorite. service was attentive. somewhat limited seating if you are bringing a large group. I thought the menu has large and varied with the usual Italian favorites. the Foccacia bread was especially tasty. wife had clams and loved them as an appetzier and seafood Linguine as her entre. The brussels sprouts were good as well as the Penne Vodka. One of your better options for Italian on the westside

10 Stars if possible

By Sally K |

What an unexpected surprise. We were celebrating husband's birthday. When we arrived, there were roses on the table and a card for him from the restaurant. Started off with their signature Focaccia Bread, which was wonderful. Then husband had the Lamb Osso Bucco and I had the Parm-crusted sole. We are both raving about our dinners. There isn't anything bad we could say about either dish. Finished off with Chocolate Mousse and it was amazing. Next to the service - We were greeted warmly at the front door and seated immediately (reservations recommended). Our server Alex was amazing as well. Very attentive but not intrusive. Even David, the owner stopped by for a nice chat. This is a place we highly recommend and we will be back for sure many times in the future!

A Very Pleasurable Experience - if you gave a negative review in Spring/Summer 2017, it's time for you to return.

If you enter in the bar side of the building you'll need to walk thru to the other side to get to the host/hostess greeting area...the chalkboard sign spells it out for you. Luckily we had reservations as there was a waiting line at 6:30PM, our table was ready. Trevor is an attentive, helpful and pleasant man who welcomed us as our server and guided us on our journey thru a most delicious Italian dining experience. The manager gave me a clean napkin after it slipped off my lap and onto the floor while one of the hostesses was kind enough to point out to me that my cellphone had dropped to the floor. David, the owner, actually mingled with and visited many tables and customers ensuring service, food and comfort enjoyment. The windows are dressed so that the outside parking/street/mall area is not a distraction. We had Stuffed Mushrooms, Chicken Pesto Pasta, Veal Parmesan, Risotto, Green Beans and Cannoli...all exceptional. (David recommends the Chicken Madeira.) This place is AWESOME!

Great Everything! Awesome Happy Hour Too!!!

By Mike L |

We live less than a mile from this restaurant & stop by at least twice a week for their fantastic Happy Hour (4:30pm-6pm then 8pm-close). They are closed on Mondays but on Tuesdays they have 1/2 off all wine glass pours which is an awesome deal. Most of the time our Happy Hour turns into dinner & they have a nice menu with huge portions. The service is fantastic, the staff is friendly & the atmosphere is great. I honestly don't have one bad thing to say about this new restaurant. We have tried at least 5 of their dinner items and all of them have been great. If you like wine & Italian food make sure you stop by here.

Quaint neighborhood hidden gem

Not a real Italian restaurant

By leepea42 |

I was hosted to a dinner at Brooklyn Trattoria on Tuesday evening. I was grateful for the gift from my employer but to be honest, I would have rather gone any place else. The food was bland, with little seasoning and was served barely warm. My fettuccini was served without a spoon and when I requested one, the waitress apparently passed the request onto the bus person. After waiting several minutes for the spoon, my food continued to get colder. Finally I got up and went over to the server, who seemed more concerned about her work schedule than our table, and again asked for a spoon. Her response, "Oh, they didn't bring you one yet?" Had she been checking our table, she would have seen I was not eating and actually turned around in my chair, trying to get her attention. When the bus person finally brought me a spoon, it was a soup spoon! What kind of Italian restaurant serves fettuccini without a tablespoon??? I should have known the food would not be great when we walked in because the place didn't smell like a restaurant. But I would have thought the service would have been better and the food served hot. I would NOT RECOMMEND this place if you are looking for a real, fine Italian dinner.

Good food and a quiet back room

By John V |

Tried this as a result of restaurant week. We requested a quiet table and were seated in the back room. The service was polite and attentive. All questions were answered, and when the server was not sure, he excused himself to obtain the information. Excellent, no guessing. The appetizers were excellent. The food was prepared properly and delivered hot. Desserts were also nicely prepared. The wine menu is not large, but satisfactory.

Innovative, interesting dishes

By Angeline W |

Family of six. Something for everyone. Selections much more inspiring than most Italian restaurants. The special of the day was crab ravioli. Superb. Very friendly, efficient, knowledgeable waitstaff. Reasonably priced. Not terribly noisy. Excellent wine selection. Eager to return!

Great new neighborhoodTrattoria

Plenty of pasta dishes to choose from at reasonable prices and rightsized portions. Warning the food is rich, varied, and very tasty. We'll be back!

One of the Best Italian Restaurants in the Area

By J.Armstrong |

Unquestionably one of my favorite overall restaurants in the Beaverton area, they must make the sauce from fresh tomatoes on site, it is just superb. The classic Lasagna is one of the best I have ever had. On a busy night service may slow down as the kitchen gets swamped but the waitresses are friendly and work hard to make up for the time. Overall the service is very good, I go here often.

Great atmosphere, classic NY Italian

By Claudia G |

This is a traditional NY Italian restaurant that offers really good food, a great bar and exceptional service. The atmosphere is traditional Brooklyn style and is comfortable and appealing. I will definitely return.

Great to have another good restaurant near home!

By Kathleen S |

I took the family to Brooklyn Trattoria last month. The food was good, the service was good and it didn’t seem overpriced to us. The owner stopped by to great us and to ask if everything was OK. I. Think any new restaurant deserves time to get up and running smoothly. Those who were disappointed on their first visit should give this place a second try. I enjoyed my meal and plan to return.

Have eaten in better Italian Restaurants

By Connie C |

Just picky, Have eaten in Italian restaurants in NYC, Little Italy-Baltimore, The Hill in St. Louis,, Sals by Victor in Williamsburg VA. and anyplace I can find Italian. All were better than this place. Small menu.

Enjoyed the ravioli

By Russell A |

Great ravioli. Brussels sprouts were tasty as well. Stuffed bell peppers were meh. This place is a fairly small and quiet place to enjoy dinner. The staff were friendly and let us linger well after we had finished our meal without hurrying us out.

its a long plane ride back to Brooklyn

By Ogpd |

I grew up in sheepshead bay/bensonhurst Brooklyn and i hoped that this would save me the trip back. Not so, portions are small, prices are high (for what you get) and the food is bland. An extra star for the friendly staff.

Late Lunch, could not be much better

By MarkkuJ60 |

Excellent food and still reasonably priced. I had some sea food pasta which was just great, including the visual impression. My colleague was quite happy about his meal as well. Clean and nice. Service was good as well, only remark was that we needed to wait for the coffee a while.

What a neighborhood gem!

By CraftyChick063 |

We enjoyed our first meal this evening at Brooklyn Trattoria. What a pleasant surprise! The food is amazing and the service was impeccable. We ordered the sautéed calamari to start with and finished with spaghetti and meatballs, pesto chicken and chicken piccata. All very delicious! I highly recommend this restaurant.

Been there, not going back

By Gloria B |

Not very accomodati g and staff is not experienced for the type of restaurant that Brooklyn Trattoria is trying to be, they are better suited for fast food burger joint. Very skimpy on the food on the plate and no one ever offered fresh grated cheese or pepper to top off the plates. No WOW factor to speak of, too many great restaurants around instead of this place.

Not very tasty and fairly pricey for what you get.

By Craig K |

Fairly expensive for the portion and the food is not very tasty. This is the last time we will go there... if everywhere else is full and you really need to go out you are very likely to find a table though...

Amazing food, but rather slow service

By rickh57 |

We went to this restaurant for our son's birthday dinner. The food was delicious, with large servings. I'm certain that we'll be back again! The servers were attentive, but it took quite a while for our food to be served, even though we arrived just after they opened.

fantastico!

By cburgesscrn |

four adults had dinner together and had not one complaint. We had a booth which was comfy and we could hear each other well. favorite appetizer- arancini. very special. Keep the romesco sauce that's left over to eat with your meal. so good. We had seafood linguini, scampi angel hair, lasagna and osso buco. All so good. Austin our server was perfect. He took such good care of us. The sangiovese was a healthy portion and he brought it to me with my lamb which I had requested. we took 2 extra dinners home to my daughter and her hubby and they were ready at the perfect time to arrive home hot. I'm so glad we don't have to drive to Jake's in Portland any more. :)

Ok food

By AnnElizabeth97123 |

I had high hopes for this place. A cold draft goes thru the restaurant when the door opens due to the doors at both ends. The Caesar salad is made with real anchovies, a plus, and the cannolis were good, but the salmon gnocchi didn’t have much flavor aside from the salmon flakes, and the chicken piccata was a bit salty and the accompanying pasta was ok. Probably won’t be back.
