HANDS DOWN THE BEST FOOD!

By leahalanis |

I cannot say enough good things about this place! We started with the fried green tomatoes, which were amazing. I had the shrimp and grits and my son had the Atchafalaya with crawfish etoufee, and we ordered a side of the collard greens. I'm still in a food coma. Everything was spot on PERFECT! I have absolutely no negative comments on this place. If down home southern food is your deal, then this is your place! I can't wait to go back!

Excellent Place to Eat and Drink!

By Princess_Ronna |

This was my first time to ever visit Deep Elllum and having my first experience at Buckys Moonshine was totally AWESOME! The atmosphere and ambience is wonderful. There is an array of Moonshine and beer. You will find a drink you want and even want to venture out to try everything else! The food is also quite lovely as well. There is a lovely patio which is warm and inviting and live music which totally ROCKS plus there is open mic night. Oh, and the owner, Bucky is Fabulous as well! :) For a fun experience, drive on down to Deep Ellum and Vist Bucky Moonshine! You will simply LOVE it!

Moonshine Lunch

By Islandbean |

Eating at the bar is our favorite thing to do and Bucky has a huge bar with comfy seats. I had a delicious blackened catfish with a crawfish sauce that reminded me of new Orleans. My drink started with strawberry moonshine. My husband had the ribs and stole my bread so he could get more of his sauce. I wish we had this place in our neighborhood.

Love This Place

By Summer M |

It's official, this is the spot I will take all of my out of town visitors. The atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly. The live music on Saturday nights is awesome. The food is great and let's not forget the drinks. You have to try their moonshine. The different flavors are something to admire. Bucky is also a great host. Our waitress Edna was also amazing. If you're looking for a great time, sit out on the patio, have a few drinks, check the live band scheudle and enjoy some good food. The mac & cheese with fried chicken was awesome. I also ordered a side of collard greens (do yourself a favor and order some). The Summer Shine is a great drink. Top it off with an apple pie moonshine.

Friday Night Dinner and music on the patio

By fwcsportnut |

This Place was a Happy Accidental Discovery, the staff is great, the ladies are truly wonderful, and Bucky makes you feel as if you are an old friend coming in for a home cooked meal. And as for the food DELICIOUS!!!!!!! Just put on a blindfold and point at the menu, YOU won't be disappointed

Sensational salmon

By Pat M |

Three of us stopped here for a quick early dinner. Managed to get a table by the window. Two Louisiana gumbos and a blackened salmon pasta for me. Two thumbs up for the gumbo. Spicy but not overpowering. My pasta was very good...just what I was looking for. Had a side of hushpuppies, too. Great service, too.

Best night ever

The food , drinks and music are ALL above average ! To begin, I didn't go for the food or drinks . The music once we parked lead is right to the patio. We immediately sat down and ordered the drinks which then lead to food while I was reading the bio story on the back of the menu . I had to see what had been learned through the owners "gyspy's" lifestyle . The catfish basket with fried okra and hush puppies was enough to share and was delicious ! I'm already planning a trip back to try another drink and more food ! And I realized after the fact park next to the patio, that will save you a $5 meter fee. Enjoy the live music !

A LIttle Louisiana in the Heart of Dallas. Go. Now.

Oh, my. After a frustrating search online for a good but reasonable place to order up a nice hunk of dead cow, I came across Bucky Moonshine's in the Deep Ellum area of Dallas. Hmmm, I thought. Cajun sounds good. I can have steak anywhere. It turned out to be the right choice for a Tuesday night, when there were none of the occasional crowds and the service was immediate and personal. Even though this was my first visit, I felt like a valued friend from the moment I sat at the bar. I understand it can get crazy busy on weekends or Fat Tuesdays, so picking your time to visit is highly recommended. Closed on Sundays. After seeing too many great menu choices, I settled on the Atchafayala, a blackened catfish fillet on dirty rice, topped with crawdad (or shrimp, your choice) etouffee. While this was being prepared, I sampled a flight of three different moonshines from their extensive collection. Wow. Caroline recommended a tasty local distillation, one flavored with strawberries, and the not-for-lightweights "Blue Flame" at 128 proof. (I was careful not to get any of the last one on my shirt, as I have too many with holes from battery acid already!) Dinner was topped off with a slice of the homemade Sweet Potato Pecan Pie, and it didn't disappoint. The whole experience was beyond my expectations, from start to finish. Of course, I didn't come during a time when they're frequently packed, which has to impact the ability of the limited staff to provide great and immediate service. They feature live music on Fridays and Saturdays, and weekends are said to be crazy busy, so pick the time of your visit accordingly. Bucky Moonshine's is not a huge place, with limited inside seating, but they have a good sized porch and a nice long bar as well. This family run business has been cooking up these delicacies for quite awhile, and it shows. I can't wait to get hungry again, as I know just where to go.

We loved it!!

Yessss, it was fantastic!!! I can't say enough about the food, chef Ivan and the great staff!! Plus live music on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights!!! AND FREE PARKING IN DEEP ELLUM!!😊

You want Southern? Here it is, y'all!

By Destination_Vacay |

The food. The food. The food. Couldn't get enough of this place or the very authentic, spot on - food. Catfish Pontchartrain smothered in crawfish and sauce..... Fried potato cheese balls, fried okra, gumbo, red beans and rice, chicken and dumplings, as well as sweet potato pecan pie. We ate it all. We tried every dish we could handle over a three day period. Outstanding food! If you want affordable, true southern in a no frills atmosphere - this is it! Try a hurricane. You won't be let down.

This is the place to eat at!!

I wanted something new to eat in Deep Ellum and it was fantastic!! The service was friendly and fast. The food was excellent and super yummy. I HIGHLY recommend you give this place a try, you won't be disappointed!!

Hard to believe they're still in business

By twodogscritic |

Friday afternoon lunch for three of us. Got there just before noon and sat at the bar. The outside tables were busy and inside was maybe half full. Took 15 minutes to get an idea tea - when it cam we ordered lunch. Two other parties at the bar arrived after us and got the food, ate, closed out and left before we even got our food. We kept asking the bartender where our food was and she just kept saying "they're making it - we're busy". She was clearly slammed as she had to work the inside tables as well as the bar but was nice enough throughout. Finally, she asked the manager and he went back to the kitchen - our lunch appeared 15 minutes later. The food is not terrible but not that great - just bar food. The weirdest thing about the whole experience was the two in uniform Dallas Police Officers hanging out with some of the guests and then helping clear tables after they left. Maybe they were hired security and got paid extra to bus tables? Anyway, never again. Service this bad (without any kind of apologies) is just not acceptable.

Excellent and Fun!

This restaurant is in Deep Ellum. An area that is very trendy and popular. It can be hard to find parking but fortunately the restaurant has it's own parking lot and it's free. The (479) 632-1364 is fun. There was live music when we were there. The food is excellent with good portions. I would eat here over and over again.

OMG the Bread Budding, The Chicken and Waffles! You will LOVE IT!

By travelingaroundokay |

AMAZING from the Fried Green Tomatoes (yes, it is real) to the Chicken and Waffles to the best Bread Pudding on the planet this place is the BOMB and you will love it! Definitely want to go back and eat, eat and then eat some more!

Saturday night at Bucky's

By Greg5124 |

This was our first time here and we had a great time. We sat on the patio and enjoyed the live music, although it was some loud. We had the cajun fried chicken wings to start. These are not just a part of the wing; they are the whole wing and were seasoned just right. I had the catfish pontchartrain. It is catfish (I got mine fried, but it also comes blackened) with crawfish on the top. It was great. My wife had shrimp and grits which also has mushrooms and sausage. She loved it. We also had a couple of drinks and enjoyed those as well. If you haven't tried this place, do it soon. You won't regret it.

Food Was De-Lis-Cious

Relaxing Cajun/Creole/Southern Restaurant with full bar

By JoeD63 |

Wanted a Cajun/Creole dinner near the Texas State Fair. Bucky Moonshine’s seemed like it would fit the bill. More of a bar with a great menu. Service was prompt and the food was very good. We had the Cajun Fettuccine and the Atchafalaya (Blackened Catfish with Crawfish Étouffée over white rice). Both were large portions and VERY good. I’d definitely go back.

Southern food and music

Had a great time at Bucky Moonshine’s - really enjoyed the seafood gumbo and listening to the band. Especially the rendition of ‘sitting on the dock of the bay’ great night and will call in again.

Love this place

We have been to Buckey Moonshines several times and it is always great. Blackened Catfish with crawfish is awesome so is the crawfish enchiladas. Macaroni and cheese is great too. Staff is really friendly, on Friday and Saturday, there is live music on the patio. Awesome deep ellum location.

Great food

The is a great place for comfort food they have a wide variety of food and it’s really good. The best thing was those chicken and waffles! They were still good when I reworked them up the next day.

Amazing Food and Loved the Service

We ordered Blackened Atchafalaya and Pontchartrain. Both were well worth coming back for very soon! The vibe was fun for groups or family!

Good Food.....OK Service

By Jim D |

Saturday Noon meal and we were one of the few tables occupied. Kinda slow service. Tried the Cheese Balls as an appetizer. Delicious. Great sauce. Wife had the blackened catfish with shrimp étouffée. Good but too spicy. I had the sides of red beans and rice, fried okra, and hush puppies. Excellent choices on all three. Very extensive menu. Really hard to decide. If you enjoy cajun. Eat here.

Great Food...don't just walk by.

By pjccpa_ne |

Was at Bucky Moonshine's on Saturday March 23rd for dinner. We had a fantastic experience. The food was fantastic. Licked the plate clean! Victor took care of us and he was great. Great food, great service, and great drinks...can't go wrong. We had the Blackened Atchafalaya and the blackened pontchantrain - both were outstanding. Vibe was great! Really great experience.

Awesome southern coastal cooking

By Richard S |

I eat here for lunch once a week. Also come in on Saturdays to have an afternoon drink, and BS with the out of towners who stop in to try something different in Dallas, and to have an afternoon drink as well. Truly a unique, and one of a kind atmosphere, where the staff will give you something to talk about. Ask for Moonshine, or you are missin out.

Great find!

By Brenda K |

I visited Bucky Moonshine's with my sis and a friend and we three gals were treated to a fun meal by Todd! Immediately upon walking in the door we noticed the "divey" feel we were looking for but the service and food put Bucky Moonshine's waaaay above that category! There were small and large groups and we sat in the middle of the indoor room at a tall table. Todd greeted us and made fantastic drinks and great food suggestions. We had to leave but a band was to begin later on the outdoor patio. We were told my many that it's a fun time but we didn't get back in time that nite. I would recommend this place to anyone!

Yummy Cajun!

By tenisheat2016 |

First time here for dinner on Mother's Day and it was well worth the wait. We started with the Boudin Balls, which were quite yummy, the dipping sauce was to spicey for my taste. We ordered the catfish & shrimp, shrimp stuffed plablano, Atchafalaya with fried Catfish topped with shrimp etouffee served over white rice. I added collard greens which were fantastic. The meal was completed with sweet potato pecan pie and banana pudding. Luck for us were able here the live band before we left. This was a great night out!

Tasty!

By Helen C |

We had the Ponchatrain Catfish, Atafalaya (blackened catfish) with crawfish eoutfee, Combo Fried Catfish and Shrimp, and Fried Alligator. The food very tasty but a little salty. The seafood sauce made the fried entrees taste good. The jalapeño hush puppies were a little salty too. Very fast and friendly service. Parking next door is very expensive. Cheaper to park at a parking meter.

Excellent!

A friend recommended the place and I was hooked. Don’t miss out. This place is legit: from appetizers, drinks, entree, down to desserts.

Outstanding!!!!!

Our party of six had a varied menu of food including fried catfish, po boy sandwich, gumbo, and appetizers. And everything was excellent. Freshly cooked, spicy sauce, great service and tasty deserts. The patio was delightful and rustic. Good food, attentive service, and a gracious host. Good visit.

Stopped by to have dinner before a concert on a Thursday night. Food was awesome. So many choices I will have to come back and try some of the other dishes. Waitress was great and the owner sat down with us to chat. I will definitely be back!

Good food

We initially went to this restaurant as a part of a food tour group. Our samples of fried green tomatoes and gumbo made us want to come back and try it again. I got the chicken and waffles and it was very good. The service was also good. They had a live band playing that provided nice entertainment. This is a restaurant I would recommend you try.
