Evening Of Blues

By conservtravlr |

My wife and I were interested in some quality music with our meal, so we researched the listings and found a potential group coming to Buddy Guys that we were interested in. We bought tickets online, (easy), that guarantees you entrance, (pre-paying the cover), but not a table. So you need to arrive ~7:30P, (but not on a Thur like we were). Food and service were great, but I felt bad for our waitress when we had two hours till the band would play. This seems normal for this place, however, and it appeared as if they didn't need the table till much later. Matt Hendricks played earlier for free, and was very good. Seemed like a real likable guy, too. He's there Tue & Thur. The main act, Laura Rain is quite a talent and has an incredible voice.Go see her if you can. (But back to Buddy's...) My wife had salmon (healthy), and I had a full slab of baby back ribs (bluesey). Both were delicious. At a restaurant, I expect free refills on diet pepsi, but what of an establishment were we are camped out all night listening to a band? At the end when we asked to settle up, (we didn't stay all night, meetings the next day), only the original pop was listed. Thank you!

Business Trip.

By Matthew O |

Arrived in Chicago for a business trip & hit a few bars in town. I love live music & boy was I in for a surprise.. The music was fantastic, the food was very tasty. We as a group of guys had a great time, will be back..

Overpriced

By markstcft |

Too long to wait for that kind of food. Not worth it and significantly overpriced. Not paying to have the staff being rude towards my guests

unbeatable food and music

By anonymous708934 |

Located at Wabash and Balbo, a block east of Michigan Ave. Buddy Guy's is a short stroll from the Chicago Hilton and Blackstone Hotels. It is one of the best blues clubs anywhere, and a top-flight restaurant to boot. The Cajun/creole cuisine is wonderful. My favourites are the fried oysters and the Jumbo Gumbo. Vegetarians are well catered for, and the range of available beverages is impressive. Staff are friendly, attentive, and helpful. I have seen folks come here for the food alone. But why not stick around for the music--- authentic Chicago blues. With CDs and blues memorabilia also on sale, Buddy Guy's is truly a one stop shop, and a great one at that.

Chicago Blues !!!!

By Katherine H |

Really enjoyed this classic Chicago Blues club. We had visited in early 2000’s and liked the music but venue was tired. They must have updated. Will definitely return soon.

fantastic blues!

By arpin |

It's a famous place in Chicago. A friend of mine recommended this place for blues and we really enjoyed it!

Great Food and Music!

By RRE |

The food was delicious! Blues music great during our dinner. We didn't stay for the actual act that was booked later that evening due to expensive cover charge. $20 cover charge is a bit much for that kind of location/venue.

Blues in Chicago

By Sergio R |

Beer, some average food to go with, and nice blues music! That's where to go, if you want this combination. Not a fancy place though, where locals divide space with tourists. Better get no later than 8pm to get a nice table. Or you can stand behind or stay at the bar. Always a preliminar show before the main one (that starts around 9:30pm). So, if you are around, why not?

Legends

By Jeff M |

We had the opportunity to be in Chicago for a few days for conferences, and really wanted a chance to visit Buddy Guy's Legends. Being Blues fan's, it was a must. The memorabilia was extremely interesting, and so was the menu! Louisiana fare, and lot's to choose from. The Catfish Tenders were cornmeal breaded and fried to perfection. Crispy outside, flaky inside. Next were the Jumbo Shrimp coked in a sweet & spicy bourbon sauce that was so good that I wanted to lick the plate! It's hard to stop eating when there's this much choice, so I also had the Crab Cakes, they were the best I've ever had! Try everything on the menu, I wish I could have lol. The music was great, the bar is extremely clean and well run, service was darn good too. We had a really good time there, and our highlight was to meet Buddy Guy himself! Check it out, you'll love Legends!

Great place for lunch

By Renee S |

We had lunch at Buddy Guy's on a Saturday afternoon. I highly recommend it. The food was great and the service was really good too. The entertainment was the amazing! It was a very enjoyable experience and was an exceptional value for the money. We will most definitely eat here again when we are back in Chicago. I would recommend that anyone try it. It wasn't terribly crowded either which is surprising considering what a great gem this restaurant is. Go...you won't regret it!

Excellent food

By Bilncrs |

We visited here after taking a look at the Muddy Waters Mural. Unfortunately we were too early for the live music, so we had a couple of drink, then had a nice meal of Chicken strips & Jambalaya. Both were very good. Check the schedule before you go, it is worth a visit though, even if there isn't any.

Better music than food

By red924 |

We went as my husband is a blues fan and always visits when in town. Ambiance was fine, not quite as expected, more diner style with a music stage than a standard blues club. Food was mediocre, don't go if your going just for the food, there are many better places! Go for the music and have a snack.

Fantastic Night

By Newyboy60 |

Just arrived "home" from Buddy Guys Legends". Phenomenal evening. The support act was great, then the headline act came on and blew the house away in a single set of almost 3hrs. Great venue, good staff, reasonable prices on beer. I didn't eat the food but it looked OK. Highly recommend this venue for anyone, blues fans it not.

Great food, blues, and service.

By rdubinatub |

Not much else to say. If you love the blues it’s always happening here. Went two evenings in a row another times the food and service were great. Just go already!

Neat place to visit

By Perrysburg68 |

As soon as I saw an ad for here we were going. Walking distance from our hotel meant we got to enjoy the music and the atmosphere of this unique place. The place is a awesome look into Mr Guys life and music and the food is amazing, try to gumbo and the Buddies brew beer. The live music makes the trip complete. Enjoy

Blues & Drinks

By Lori D |

Saturday night, 3 of us went for the first time. The music and drinks were great, but the food was not. Out of the three of us not one of us liked our food. The wings were fried too hard, the shrimp dish had no flavor, the steak taco meat tough and fatty. My recommendation would be to go and enjoy a beverage and some amazing Blues, but eat before you go.

Awesome

By marsands2016 |

Stopped in for lunch with our family of four. Do far, our favourite place to eat in Chicago. My burger was amazing. The catfish was outstanding. Gumbo was fantastic. Very reasonable and very quick service. Live lunch entertainment was a bonus!

My favorite blues bar

By ZippyZZZ |

Small venue with a big heart. Biggest names in Chicago blues play in a small room right in front of you. Food is actually pretty good even though you don't go here for the food. Buddy will show up occasionally and sometimes even sit in with the band playing that night.

What an awesome, incredible night!

By Lee D |

This place oozes nostalgia and listened to the "Mike Wheeler Band" which was fantastic! They had that place rocking and dancing until the end of their program. Food was OK, drinks were good. Loved it Loved it!!!

Good spot

By bazzarush |

Dropped by for a night on my own in Chicago. Lovely ribs followed by great music, including a visit by buddy himself. Pleasure. Not too expensive either.

See the legend at Legends.

By traveltheworld012 |

I doubt there is ever a disappointment here. The last time I was here was in the mid-1990s. It has been too long and we came back. Back then it was a small place half the size, small stadium seating, a few tables to dine and two pool tables. Last time here we saw G E Smith (of SNL fame) Band. They really rocked the house! I also met Buddy Guy at the bar. Okay, fast forward about 25 years... zzzzipp. Buddy is still hanging at the bar, the night club is huge compared to what it was. Our server Mandi, told us this is a different building. Now much hipper place, more room, larger stage, two bars- one at each end. Still great food and great music. We were here on a Wednesday night and the place filled up. We drank a whole bottle of nice red wine only $29. I had Jambalaya at $17 came with cornbread - delicious! My wife had the Loaded Nachos at $12- she said it was the best nachos she has ever had. Mandi was really great serving us. Live music 7 nights a week. The blues band playing was interrupted by Buddy himself coming onstage. What a treat! He sang a couple of songs, told a ribald joke and made a pitch for reviving blue music on the radio. Yes, if you come here, you could meet Buddy as well, for he is usually here in the evening and will sign an autograph for you if you buy some memorabilia. This place is SOOO good.

Great music

By Keith Y |

Music was great. Food was very good. Great vibe. $10 per person cover but well worth it. Great place to meet new friends.

A bit touristy, but still fun

By Laura O |

While I suppose your experience here will largely depend on the performers that night, I - personally - have always had a fairly good time. Get there early if it's a weekend or a big act, seats can fill up quickly! The food is good - okay - nothing amazing but definitely nothing negative to say about it. The atmosphere is a bit dank - and not in a hip dive bar kind of way. First walking in I'm always reminded of a bowling alley by the harsh lighting and counter at the front. The rest of the place is rather dark, but still a definitely hole in the wall kind of feel. It has potential to be a good date spot if everyone loves blues and live music - loud live music, too! If you want to talk over some soft music and a cocktail, this isn't the place to go. I've seen people get up and dance, though, they definitely seem to enjoy participation from the audience.

Music was pretty good, but mostly for tourists staying downtown.

By CaptainBristol |

It was OK and was right around the corner from our hotel, which was very convenient. One performer seemed very pleased with himself but did a lousy job connecting with the audience.

Great music and drinks

By Swapan |

We stopped here after dinner with our team. The music is awesome and we really enjoyed the live band. Ordered cocktails and drinks, no food. There was a cover charge of $10. A must place to visit If you are in Chicago

Great food great music.

By AfishnamedArthur |

We went for dinner and of course the music. As a blues club we expected the the food to be good but not outstanding. The food was so much better than we expected. Try the catfish smothered in crawfish étouffée! The appetizers are all very good. The music is outstanding! A fun, friendly place.

Miss the old one

By woaishanghai |

But this is Buddy Guys. Amazing performances though I loved the old vibe better. This can be an awkward experience when there aren't enough people; decor is awkward.

Super Confusing Visit!

By TravelerJenny8 |

We went to this location based on TripAdvisor recommendations and location. We almost kept waking because the open sign was not lit. I now wish we had. We had two small suitcases with us when we rolled in. We were told we could not be seated with luggage and the hostess went to talk to the manager. The manager held the door for us as we excited. When I asked why we couldn't be seated, she went into a five minute story about safety. Keep in mind we are a family with two kids and it's the middle of the afternoon. I asked, can we eat outside then and was told yes. Here's the thing. While sitting outside, we found a tiny sign that said no luggage or backpacks after 8 pm. It was 2 pm. Another gentleman went in after us with a big backpack. When I went in to use the restroom, he was seated with his backpack. Not cool. Was the food good?? Sure, it was good. The jambalaya was okay. The chicken wings were good. Overall, the visit was odd. I will not return. Management needs to be consistent.

Cool place for live music & great ribs

By Shelliu |

When it comes to ribs in Chicago, Buddy Guys is one of the best, especially since you can hear great live music at the Dave time (if you plan well or get lucky like us). The BBQ chicken was just ok and the wings weren't crispy or special in any way so I would just stick to beer, ribs and music and you will have a wonderful night in Chicago.

Great entertainment and good food

By Gail H |

Our party of four enjoyed a fabulous dinner and great live entertainment in June on our first night in Chicago. The grilled salmon with garlic potatoes and beans was excellent. Dinners were reasonably priced. Great decor with signed guitars on the walls. Easy to get to on the Red Line train. Safe neighbourhood. Hope to go back one day!

Blues aloud

By John G |

Good entertainment at lunch. The food was good and the service was very good. I had a salad and my wife had a burger. Both were very good and cheap

Night of blues

By Alberto M |

Excellent place to enjoy good music. Night of blues. 3 bands at night in sequence. I recommend it to blues lovers.

First Time

By Andreas B |

Everyone said come here, and they were right. The music was great, the atmosphere was buzzing and it was a true piece of American blues heritage. Loved it

Wow

By Randy F |

We had a really good dinner. Three bands for $20 what a deal. Just rocked out. Such a magnificent atmosphere. So highly recommended.

Blues not Jazz

By Sharese N |

Although the singer was great, I was expecting a little more blues music. The service was awful , the restuarant apologize but for the price of the drinks, apologies really didnt cut it.

Good food and great music

By Jason S |

We stopped by for music and some food. I had the ribs which were the special the night I was there. The flavor was great. I also really like the coleslaw that came with it. The music was great as well. Overall, good food and great music makes for a a really good night.

Live Music

By LizbethW14 |

We stopped here on a Sunday afternoon because it was close to our hotel. There was live music when we arrived. The artist was wonderful! The food was great although I felt that our waitress could have been a little more attentive. I liked seeing the different guitars from various artists on the walls. I would come back here.

Great Blues and Fun Food

By Bruce C |

We got there way before the main act and sat in the front of the bar, up against the stage -- my favorite place to be once the music starts. The food was very good (ribs and fixings), and the service was perfect. This is a legendary blues club and bar, and is worth a visit. There was no pressure to leave the table once you sat down. I think we sat in our seats for 3 hours after they cleared away our dinner. Great fun.

One of a Kind

By Newmania |

Saw Buddy’s show on 2/3. The staff worked hard to seat people and take care of drink orders. Of course, Buddy was amazing. Sheryl Youngblood’s great voice was a treat. Buddy stayed for quite a while after the show signing souvenirs and we were able to get a photo as well. It was an unforgettable night. Thanks to Buddy, his family and staff.

Relaxed dining and drinking with good blues

By Sunman239 |

Great atmosphere, lots of memerobilia and just a relaxing place to have a meal or drink and hear good live music. Recommended.

Koncert with the legend

By Tina205 |

Food was ok... Kimmi the bartender was fantastic 👍 Unfortunately we also was serviced by another bartender Jocelyn who was root and not pleasant ... A disaster for a wonderful place. The concert was the best ever. All in all a 5 star evening if it had not been for the bartender Jocelyn . I my opinion she was not to be working at this wonderful place .

Wonderful live music...

By HMatias |

What an amazing place to seat down, grab some drink and enjoy amazing blues with friends or your partner...

The worst food we have ever had

By Mete H |

The food is extremely bad.. i would say the worst i have ever had. I order tacos and besides bad tortilla or meat even the lettuces were not fresh. My wife had burgers and it was also very poorly made. I would choose any fast food instead. Eat somewhere else and come to listen music

Great Food and Great Prices

By vera m b |

My husband and I went to Buddy Guy's Legend restaurant and bar for food and entertainment with another couple. It was fantastic. Food was excellent, nice prices and the entertainment was fabulous!

Chicago Blues Experience

By David G |

If you want to experience uniquely American blues music then Buddy Guy's Legends needs to be on your list. I have been here a couple of times and have always found a band that I want to follow. Sometimes my favorite of the night is not even the headliner. I recommend going for dinner (great cajun food) and staying for the show, which guarantees you a seat.

There is only one Buddy Guy's

By John B |

Drop in on any night, and be treated to the best of Blues. Witness our latest trip and the utter delight of Harmonica Hines and Eddy Taylor, Jr. Add to that fried okra, spucey grilled shrimp, wings, gumbo, and greens. Surely there's no better place for real food and real blues.

Great music and ok food

By NettyA |

Three of us arrived about 6.30pm for dinner. Entry was free but after 8pm it costs to see featured musicians. There were two blues guitarists on stage and they were excellent. My partner had catfish po-boy, our friend had the catfish dinner, while I had a small caesar salad with crawfish. I was disappointed that the "crawfish" seemed to be tiny shrimp but otherwise it was ok. The others enjoyed their meals. We enjoyed our beers and my cocktail. Service and prices were good. Lots of interesting memorabilia around the room.

Great Food and Great Music - shame about the kids!

By conorbuggy |

I came here twice while in Chicago as I really enjoyed the food and the music there. Great selection of good hearty food and goo beers. On the second visit, the owners or managers kids were running riot all over the place, it was really distracting and an inconvenience. The waitress though did her best to get it to stop and I had no fault with the food or beer or music..... just the annoyance of kids going crazy.

A great experience of a place.

By mjfoodlover |

We found this place on trip advisor as we were looking for a blues venue while in Chicago for a few nights. The atmosphere was wonderful and the food out of this world. Sadly the live act for the early evening was unwell so we only had pre recorded music and due to an early start we were unable to stay for the main act. Please not the there is a $10 per head cover charge if you stay for this which we would have been happy to pay if we could have spared the time. The blue plate platter was wonderful and gave the ability to try several of the delicious dishes on offer. The fried okra to start was also a lovely experience. The gumbo, jambalaya and the étouffée were all super to experience and the corn bread was out of this world. Highly recommended to anyone wanting a blues experience with superb southern food.

Good Atmosphere - Average Grub

By osteopathy2015 |

Nice place to eat - lots of room, free entertainment during the early evening hours, but the food is average. However, the decor makes up for the food, so feast yourself on the atmosphere if the food is dull.

Great entertainment & service

By Emily B |

Great entertainment by Linzey Alexander. Service was also excellent. Food was good. We had our teenager with us who really liked the place too. Had to leave by 8pm. Great choice.

Great time!

By vbarnard2018 |

We spent an evening there a truly had a wonderful time! Although we didn't eat we did get to hear some really good blues! Highly recommend!

Best Ribs and Blues in Chicago!

By write_stuff_2 |

The Baby Back Ribs were slathered in a tasty sauce. Long freshly cut fries with cabbage salad on the side. Coupled with local Blues artists makes this club the go to place while in Chicago.

Not as Good As I Remembered.

By Kathy P |

I had been quite a few years back and was quite excited to be visiting Chicago so I could come back to this place. Like most things it is never as good as it was the first time. The door staff was polite, the waitress was efficient but disinterested. The food was not overwhelming but the music was great and the decor was great. Found the prices a bit high but it is a big city. Enjoyed it would recommend it.

Music is the Draw, but Food is Worth a Visit, Too

By beerwriter |

Excellent live music, very good Cajun/Creole food. Fast and friendly service. Menu prices and music cover charges very reasonable for the quality of each.

Excellent food and music

By Rushad K |

This place has some good New Orleans style food. I ordered a sampler plate and it was just as good as anything on bourbon street. The live music is also a nice added touch.

Phenomenal entertainment

By lizzyloo160 |

Went when Mr. Guy was in house. The musicians were fabulous as usual. This time we also ate there. Wonderful soul food. We had catfish and greens and bbq ribs and chicken! DELICIOUS!!!

Amazing Service, great food

By jkfhope |

We met friends here who were staying at the nearby Hilton, we had 3 kids under 5 and 4 adults. We arrived about 1 hr before the evening show (which wasn't going to be a family show) and the staff hussled to get us a large enough table, even though the restaurant was filling up for the show, and provided fast and friendly service. Everyone enjoyed their meals and it couldn't have worked out better with 3 young kids.

Blues music and good food

By Denis P |

The dishes are delicious and affordable. We ordered 2 cocktails (margherita and hurrine). Then a starter of catfish tenders and a jambalaya as main course. Very good. The decor is beautiful with guitars that used to belong to celebrities (B B. King, John Lee Hooker, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, etc.) hung on the walls. Artists give a continuous blues show. Definitely a place to visit.

Oh Buddy, You made a fan of my Fiancé !

By Kali-ante |

My fiancé gets angry when I play my beloved Blues... So getting her to go to Buddy Guy's was like twisting her arm that night. Before we left I played her some Willie Dixon/Chess Records Classics... again - nada! It just got her more annoyed! The look on her face when I said I suggested a 'Rhythm & Blues hour' at our Wedding... didn't go down well! However, after Downtown Charlie Brown and the James Armstrong Bands weaved their magic - suddenly my Fiancé now thinks she's Etta James! It was one of the best evening of Blue's I have been to - period! The warmth of the staff and crowed was on another level. When we went to pay our cheque, we found out that our entire bill had been taken care of by one of the patrons - who must seriously be the most kindest lady in the world! We were left speechless by her random act of kindness and will ensure I continue to 'Pay it Forwards' (thank you Mrs N we'll never forget you!). The food was pretty darn good too! Grilled Catfish and Collard Greens like Mama makes (my mum can't cook so someone else's mama!) Music was one of the only things my partner and I differ.. but thanks to Buddy Guy's and the love of the crowd that night - I got me a woman that loves the blues! Buddy - you probably just saved my marriage before it even began! ;) Guy's you ROCK... and roll!

Great Jazz

By GuyAlwaysTravelling |

Visited along with colleagues for drinks and really enjoyed the jazz band and atmosphere. Great live music!

A really enjoyable night out!

By Che4_13 |

Visited on a Wednesday evening. Early on there was an acoustics blues session and then at 9.30pm a cover charge of 10$ for the evening band; it was worth every cent. The music was great, drinks reasonably priced and good atmosphere. We did not eat. If you like blues then you must visit this place.

Awesome Night Out

By E404 |

We went for dinner and got to see the free show before the actual concert. I didn't expect much in the way of entertainment but I heard the food was good so that's the main reason we went. Everything was great! The food was so amazing. The service was a bit lacking but, overall the night was awesome. The entertainer was true to his blues roots and rocked the house. Did I mention, the food was to die for? Absolute down-home heaven. The okra was crisp and the light. The cornbread was slightly sweet and it paired well with the spicy jambalaya. Fantastic!

Great music, good food

By chape_de |

We stumbled upon this place by accident on a Friday night after arriving in Chicago. The Travellodge and Congress Hotel are near there. We paid a $20 cover charge and then regular price for food and drinks. Food was good, service was good. Music was really good, the place was relatively full. No reservation possible for a party of two for example and no saving seats. All in all a good evening especially on a weekend in Chicago!

Yes a Legend of a Restaurant

By kbyam5 |

We stopped in for a drink and to listen to a band...we didn't leave for three hours. The band was exceptional. It was mid-week so not too busy. Was told it's quick busy during the weekend. We just had drinks but people around us were eating dinner. The workers were very friendly.

Great Jazz and Blues Music Here

By Darryl G |

We went for the music, which started around 5:30 pm. It was worth it! An excellent jazz quartet band, the Hilton Hart Project, played a set almost an hour long before their first break. Music was scheduled to continue until very late and they have a band there almost every night. The food was pretty good and the beer and wine were reasonably priced. If you go, you are going for the music, jazz and blues if you are a fan. Check out the guitars from famous musicians mounted on the walls, and the Grammy's and other collectables in the glass cases.

Warm up with some great live music on a cold night!

By Paddy L |

My husband and I recently had the pleasure to visit Buddy Guy's for a bite to eat and some live music. What a treat! The cover charge was only $10 and we got a table very close to the stage. The band that night was Brother John hosts the Jam, and jam they did! It was such a wonderful compilation of jazz, blues, and toe-tappin' music- we loved it! As the night went on, the band invited several talented artists to come up onstage to jam with them and there was never a dull moment. Our dinners were pretty good too. I can see why they call it "home cookin" because it tastes very much like that. We had generous portions of food and no complaints whatsoever. We love visiting Buddy Guy's place whenever we get to the city and have free time. The servers are friendly and everyone makes you feel welcomed.

Some wildly wonderful cajun/creole food!

By Jerrybuch |

My son-and-law and I went to Legend's one recent Sunday and were able to enjoy a nice lunch while listening to some acoustic blues on stage. The gumbo is not to be missed! I also HAD to get the friend okra which was fantastic. The shrimp is over-the-top good! We stuck around all day and then and some dinner which was a blackened cat fish sandwich and a Buddy burger. None of it disappointed! It also didn't hurt that THE MAN himself hit the stage later that night. Great show Buddy - food and music!

Great food and great entertainment!

By Greg K |

It was a quiet rainy Chicago Wednesday evening. We just saw the matinee of Hamilton the musical and it was getting close to dinner time. Did the Trip Advisor thing to see what was close by and Buddy Guy's was within walking distance and sounded like a great option. Got there and the host said that a small show starts at 6:00 but the real show starts at 9:00 and that there was a $10.00 cover. We weren't planning on staying that long so the cover did not matter to us but $10 each for a cover when you drop close to $100 on dinner and drinks seems like a bit much. The waitron (gender neutral) was wonderful, was there with waters when we sat down, gave us menus and took our drink order. Came back with the drinks and got our appetizer and dinner order. Very friendly and helpful, cooks and other waitstaff cleared dishes as needed throughout the meal. Only complaint is that the dinner came out too quickly - we just finished our appetizer and dinner was there, it would have been nice to sit and digest a few minutes and maybe order another beer while listening to some blues before dinner got there - next time we will wait to order dinner :) speaking of blues, the guy they had at 6pm was a fantastic guitar player and singer, could have listened to him for hours. This was one of my best nights out ever! I was in the commercial food services industry for close to 30 years and this plase WOWed me! Thanks for everything

Service the worst, entertainment the reason to go, food acceptable

By Barbara8211 |

Stopped by for Happy Hour and the service was horrible. I went to the bar several times to request help and was willing to serve myself but not allowed! By the time it came to pay the bill, we just waited at the bar till someone finally gave us a bill. The entertainment was very enjoyable and the reason to go ... eat if you must.

Good Food, Great Time

By STL Foodie |

Great happy hour specials from 5-7, including both food and alcohol. Food portions are large and good. Environment is GREAT. Service was average, but understandable considering the environment.

Too strict

By ccap77 |

They are too peculiar about where people can sit and won't allow you to make videos. Too bad for them! Publicity is the key... not a good selection of beers either. Music was good.

Blues, blues and some food

By Sergio R |

New Orleans style blues in a typical, no fancy atmosphere. Visited by locals and visitors. Starts with one guy show and then comes the band (around 9:30pm), obviously the best part. Different bands by daily pre scheduled dates. Must arrive no more than 8pm to get a table, otherwise standing by the bar. Drinks and food just average, in American style, but you won't leave hungry.

Sunday with the Girls - Jazz at the Blues Place

By Jil R |

My three girlfriends and I went to enjoy a live show and dinner and had a very good time. The event was from 4-7pm. Between the four of us we enjoyed greens, jambalaya, chicken wings and corn bread. The live jazz show was sponsored by the Illinois State Lottery. The singer was a local jazz artist named Zemrah. She was really good and engaged the audience. Her band was fantastic. The MC said that jazz on Sunday evenings was something new and I don't know if it's every week, but it's worth chekcing out. Be it jazz or blues the audience will not be disappointed. The food is classic soul.

Wonderful music and food!

By CatalinAlbu |

Went there with my spouse for two concerts. Great music, wonderful food. Their oysters are superb! If you count calories, have them for lunch. Sadly, I am not a fan of the house beer (Buddy's). The others are great. Nice selection of music memorabilia. You can get there on the red line, very conveniently. Must do in Chicago!

Awesome Blues concerts

By bmuzar |

Have been there several times when Buddy is in town. His concerts are so entertaining and worth getting tickets for. Would highly recommend this place. His son and daughter was with him and are as entertaining as their father.

Early Evening Music

By ak2398 |

Enjoyable early evening music about 5pm or so, no cover. The two guys playing were very good. We got a chance to chat with them while they quickly had a bite to eat before playing another set. We sat at the back bar, where we were able to eat. It was happy hour and there were a couple food items on special. We had the fried catfish and fries as well as the beef nachos. Nachos nothing more than basic corn chips, melted cheese and mildly seasoned ground beef, not bad, just not special. The catfish was pretty good. Our servers were attentive, but at times watching videos on their cell phones with the volume up, somewhat interfering with the live music. A rep for a brewery was handing out samples, a decent local beer. We didn’t stay but a couple hours, we were kindly told a cover charge would be enacted later in the evening if we chose to stay. Music is better than the food.

Super fun night!

My daughter and I say Guy King there tonight and it was super fun! Cocktails were great. We will be back...

Music and food

By Mark DEZZ |

Stayed for a couple of music acts and a dinner. Great environment for the music lover. Famous guitars hung on the wall on display as well. Stay and have drinks while taking in the Blues acts. This place has a good feel.

So simple so famous

By Vlado3 |

If you are looking for a place to spend evening in Chicago that's the right one. Live music for 10$ only, and you are with the people from all around the world. You can listen music, you can drink, you can eat, and before all you can enjoy in fantastic atmosphere. Thanks Buddy Guy's legends staff!!!

Blues night

By pickyAberdeen |

We couldn't leave Chicago without listening to some blues. We came here after reading on trip advisor and wasn't disappointed. Our food was good and so was the group that was on. Sorry didn't get their name. We arrived early and didn't have an issue getting a table. Service was good as well .

Great live music and tasty food plus wheelchair friendly too!

By Judy C |

This well known Blues Club is one block west of Michigan Ave and behind the Hilton Hotel. We enjoyed the live music of Eliza McNeal and band with other Rolling Stone fans. We were surprised to see all the hands raised from those from other countries! Staff was very accommodating to me (in a manual wheelchair) and found us a table to share so that I could see the band. Enjoyed our dinner of southern food and drinks. Had fun talking to our table mates from Canada and fellow Stones fans. Blues music was great and had a wonderful time and plan to come back to Buddy Guys when we are back in Chicago. Have a nice souvenir t-shirt to remind us of the good times. Thanks to all at Buddy Guys!

Jambalaya and Jazz -- yum!

By TheOpsDoctor |

The menu was sufficiently varied with a southern slant. The Jambalaya was quite good. Beer prices are a little high, but overall the experience was great. Really enjoyed the food and environment. Highly recommend.

An Incredible Experience!

By Trussoni |

How lucky, our group arrived at 6 pm and were able to get a table to sit at. You definitely want to arrive early as you otherwise will be standing for the remainder of the night. That said, it is worth experiencing the incredible music that Buddy Guy's Legends offers. By luck, we were there when Grammy Award Winner, Bobby Rush and his band were the headline act! Not only that, but Buddy Guy, the GOD was there and the two sang together. Bobby Rush was celebrating his 85th birthday and he is in incredible shape. He was jumping up and down off of the stage, playing the harmonica without pause, and singing without looking as if he was breaking a sweat. Everyone in our party feels so honored to have had the pleasure to experience two icons singing and performing on the same stage. If you are in Chicago, YOU MUST make this part of your plans. Plan on arriving early (you can eat dinner there) and staying late (around 1 am). What a tremendous experience. Oh, the two acts that preceded Bobby Rush and his band were both awesome too! If you love music, you must make a pilgrimage to Buddy Guy's Legends.

Great Sunday jazz

By greenhaba_11 |

Were there on a late Sunday afternoon for dinner with complementary jazz. Food was great - fried okra, gumbo, po'boys, jambalaya ! all done authentically, and brought to your table via a very cool idea to deliver all meals on a big rolling cart (probably so people dancing and grooving don't knock over a waiters full hands !!)

WOW!!

By Kory S |

We popped in here to watch Buddy play in his own place and it was amazing...bucket list item for sure if you love the blues. Check online to see who is playing. Ric Jaz, who looks angry in this photo, is actually a really friendly artist! And Buddy...I mean what can you say???

We got lucky!

By Travelagent9008 |

This place was amazing! We just happened to find this place and had heard of it. The food was wonderful and we were given a private tour. If you have a chance to go don't pass it up!

Great location, close to the Field Museum

By Diane C |

This is place is very welcoming, we had burgers, beers and of course the fried pickles which were excellent-good variety of beers to choose from.

Good place

By TRAVEL2017 |

We visited this restaurant on July 2018. Perfect spot! We loved the atmosphere! The burgers were great! Worth the visit!

Good Food and Great Show

By Sonia S |

We went to see Buddy play. The live blues in that venue was awesome! Buddy rocked and the opening act was excellent too. Food was good, I got the sampler platter and you get a bunch of southern classic to try.

Well run, friendly staff and servers, small and intimate venue, with good food.

By Jan_from_Atlanta |

Been to many music clubs over the years, but none more friendly and welcoming than Buddy Guy's in Chicago. The space is small and intimate, so not a bad seat in the house. They keep the area in front of the stage open, which all clubs should do as it really makes a difference. Before the first show, I had the catfish po boy sandwich and fries. Huge portion and tasty. Good selection of draft beers and table service was excellent. I caught two sets of the Paul Nelson band. Mr. Nelson toured as guitarist and producer for Johnny Winter and was executive producer of the documentary about his life (Johnny Winter: Down and Dirty). Lead singer is Jimmy Kunes (Savoy Brown, Cactus) and sounds much like Steve Marriott of Humble Pie (died in 1991 at age 44). Mr. Kunes shared with me that a band is being put together to tour the Humble Pie material and he will likely be the lead vocalist. Bassist is David Gross of Chicago. They were so good I stayed for both sets... and would have stayed for another ! What a great night... super club, good food, great music. A NOTE: With the closing of BB King's in NYC, blues clubs are disappearing. I urge you to support those that remain, including this one.

Fantastic!

By Charlie L |

Great spot! Came on a Saturday night having booked tickets online (you can do this up until 1600 and then take your chances but you should get in.) Really great blues bands and great service, a couple of us had some food as well which was OK but not great - pub grub, but good value. Well worth it for the music, the beer and the craic!

Dinner and music

By happyme |

Enjoyed a wonderful dinner and live entertainment at Legends our first night in Chicago. Our host was the best - giving us a prime table next to the stage and introducing us to one of their talents. Loved it!

Surprise appearance.

By jazzybird79 |

Visited 20 Sept 2024. Nice little bar with lots of memorabilia. Good burgers at a reasonable price. Bands good, Buddy made a surprise appearance.

Simply brilliant

By trannymanny |

Went down for some food, beer and music. Food was ok, had better but it was tasty and served by good friendly servers. The beer was very good and the music? Wow. The band was Morry Sochat and the 20 specials. They were really good, even if the bassist needs to lose the upright and get a late 50s P-bass with flat wounds 🤣🤣 The man himself made an appearance and boy can he sing, you don’t get vocals like that on America’s Got the X Factor

HE'S a LEGEND and so is the venue!!!

By Marianne A |

This is where it's at - one of my top 4 Favs among many, many venues in Chi-town. GREAT music. Famed musicians sometimes stop in. The bands both local and groups booked who are on tour - some of the VERY BEST blues music you'll ever hear. Buddy Guy performs in his club in January. Before I lived here, I travelled 3-4 times, in Jan, to experience his performance genius. If I closed my eyes, I'd think I was hearing a 35 year old phenom. Instead, the 86 year old phenom. Buddy Guy is world renowned and brings variety to HIS Chicago Blues! Great burgers, drinks, and people.

Good Food

By Mandyw30 |

Went to Buddy Guys one evening for dinner. I had the chicken and ribs which was really well cooked and very tasty. Lots of it too! Unfortunately the "warm up" act wasn't there so we didn't hear any music. We had an early start the next morning so decided not to stay for the main event at 9.30pm. Apparently the musician was sick but it was a shame as that's part of the main reason we went there. Service was good and staff were friendly. Food and drinks was reasonably priced. If you want to stay for the main music you do have to pay $10 per person.

Live Music and a slab of Ribs - might be heaven

By iTraveltheworld195 |

Came here with some friends that come often, so they really know the ropes. We arrived early on a Sunday during Blues Fest. No problem getting a table right by the stage. The cover charge was a bit higher than normal at that time but it was well worth it. The act that was on stage was really great. Our friends promised us really good ribs. They were very good but I have to say, not the very best. They were exceptional considering this is mainly a blues club and I wouldn't have expected such good food. I like a rib well sauced. It would have been perfect it they had served extra sauce on the side. Ribs came with fries and coleslaw. The perfect accompaniments. Our friend ordered some crab cakes to start. I did have a taste and they were made with good crab and had good crabby flavor. They were deep fried though so I wasn't high on the outside coating. Another friend ordered the chocolate cake for dessert. I didn't taste it but I can tell you it is huge. Large enough for four to share for sure. Service is a bit slow but we were having such a good time time listening to the music, it didn't matter. Love that you can get some really good food and listen to live music! Added bonus, often Buddy Guy himself is sitting at the bar just hanging out. He was there when we were! Cool to see him just sitting there enjoying his place.

Blues and good food, what more could you want

By elmtravel |

Wonderful spot for lunch or dinner in the south loop. Live music, it's such a treat. The jambalaya, spicy shrimp and cornbread was excellent. Friends had chicken sandwich and burgers that they really enjoyed and generous salads.

Good music and service

By MarkL2012 |

Buddy Guy's deserves its reputation as a premier Blues Club. We went for a Monday evening on our final night in Chicago and saw the early evening acoustic show and the house band. Both were excellent, played great blues and really good value for the $10 cover charge.. Food was very palatable and service was attentive and efficient. Only downside is you can't reserve tables and the loud behaviour of some of the clientele who are more interested in their own conversations than listening to the great music.

Great Fun, But "Standing Room Only" Means JUST THAT!!!

By Julie D |

We certainly enjoyed our several hours here---the music was absolutely entertaining, the food was good for snacking, the beer was decent---but we quickly and disappointedly found out the hard way (after confirming our spaces and paying at the crowded door) that "standing room only" meant JUST THAT, even after scheduling our time there well in advance and online. The managers didn't seem overly concerned about our inquiries about such either, as they weren't receptive to our questions. They barely broke stride in their serious dealings with the physical aspects of their jobs that evening. Certainly no empathy or words of kindness from them. There are few seats, and customers must get there hours in advance in order to grab seats. We stood for hours...INSIDE small, crowded, congested roped-off areas---like herded cattle. Quite uncomfortable for a long while, but eventually (again, hours later) a table opened up for us to snag. We stayed so long due to our devoted entry fee, plus our want to experience a good blues evening. It was a nice evening overall, but beware of the limited seating!

Great Music Average Food

By Helena Traveler |

I guess you don't come here for the food. The music was fantastic but the food was just ok. Drinks are very expensive. Interesting to view the guitar collection and memorabilia.

Great Venue

By mtkippers |

Went for a date night. Good food, great music. They start charging the cover at 8, even if you are already seated. I suggest if you plan to eat dinner to arrive before they start to charge the cover. Seating is first come first serve so the later you wait to arrive the harder it will be to get a table w just two.

Lunch with kids

By 1MRW1 |

Our family of five enjoyed the live music while dining on pub-like southern food. It was excellent. Service was a bit slow but we were there for the ambience, music and experience. All delivered.

First Time

By Michael G |

This great place was just around from the hotel we were staying in. Allows young children in until 8pm. Music started at 6pm. Friendly staff. Great service allowing us to change food items around from the menu.

Awesome saw Buddy & Quinn & Tedeski & Trucks

By latieda79 |

We love is club. Got to see him play with many other great icons. Very fun good value the music is the main thing. Earl Slick was there!

Great atmosphere

By Igor X |

It was packed when we arrived, eventually we found a table and had a few drinks, food was good and performance was great, we even saw The Buddy guy performance.

Great Cajun food and really good band for a Monday night

By James S |

Was visiting Chicago on business with associates from Sweden. They wanted to hear some American Jazz, so we visited Buddy Guy's on a Monday....not a good bet for hearing good music. The band was great and the food (New Orleans style food) was wonderful....and I have family who live in New Orleans. Would love to return. Had a great time.

mid day treat

By 1112Pat |

Buddy guys has always been a great place. But there are designated days during the week at lunchtime that there is no admission charge and there is free entertainment which allows children.. When we went we took a 4 year old (which usually cannot experience a club)-we enjoyed a great lunch and the entertainment. I don't think tooo many people know about this because there was only one other table of people. Great fun and definitely different. Great music (acoustic guitar player) and relaxing lunch-Highly recommend....

Fun Time!

By dukefan86 |

I visited Buddy Guy's based on Yelp and Twitter recommendations, and I loved it! I visited early on a Friday evening, and enjoyed the free live music and a yummy dinner! I ordered the Shrimp Creole and a glass of wine, and enjoyed the energy of the crowd during the performance! I would definitely go again next time I'm in Chicago, and take some friends with me!

Live music, cool place

By Rob H |

Cool place.....a Chicago must see. Live music every night. before 8 it's free but after there is a cover charge. We went for lunch and had music from 12 to 2 on a friday. The gumbo was great, and the catfish po boy was too. About 10 craft beers on tap, with more bottles....including the buddy brew made just for them... and a full bar with wine too but limited wine options. No reservations so first come, first serve. Service was a tad slow but friendly.

bad service

By s g |

been to buddys many times in the past. We took some friends in for a few drinks on our way though the area during bluesfest. Not busy in the morning, the waitress seemed unhappy we were only getting drinks and no food. Finely got service and when we wanted the bill she made a deal about it for reasons i dont know. A very small tip later ..we were out of there.

Security Staff

By Bo C |

Food, service, and entertainment were excellent. Unfortunately, evening was ruined by rude member of security staff. Took business clients to the early dinner show and the performance was amazing. The drinks, food, atmosphere, and service were great. Unfortunately, one of our clients had a medical issue with one of his feet, and at some point during the performance, put it up on an adjacent chair. The restaurant was about 1/2 full at the time, and while putting your foot up on a chair is not typically something one does, we were aware he was suffering some foot pain. A few minutes later, a short, stocky, hispanic male walked to our table and barked, "Get your foot off the chair!" We couldn't initially hear him over the musical performance, and our client said, "I'm sorry, what was that?" The security member responded with, "I said, get your foot off the chair!" The tone was unnecessarily rude, aggressive, and needlessly embarrassed him to everyone at the table. We all realize security staff has a job to do, but there are professional ways to interact with customers. A little courtesy and discretion would have gone along way and not ruined the evening the way it did.

Solo at the bar

By LVSquared |

Even though I pulled up a lone bar stool, the gal who served me made sure I was taken care of and I felt welcomed. I didn't stay for the show (cover charge) but I know they have live music often. Lots of options on tap and plenty of selection behind the bar. I'd go again for sure.

Good early evening experience in iconic bar

By Mike0210 |

Arrived around 5.30pm on a Friday afternoon. No cover charge until 8pm. Solo blues singer on stage. Friendly staff. Didnt eat here but food looked ok. Once 8 o clock comes around they are strict about the cover charge.

You gotta go

By adam-kelley |

Great music and a fun place to enjoy some Chicago blues. We had a few drink and listened to a great band. Our bartender took very good care of us. Always love this place!

Blues night at Buddy's

By Quentin M |

went to Buddy Guy's blues bar for a night out a saw 3 great bands in an environment a true blues fan would die to see, let alone get to perform in.

Great food, great music. Poor Service

By WVParkfan |

Topped off our trip to Chicago with some old school blues. The good: Great music. Great food. We shared the Jumbo Gumbo which included shrimp, oysters, crab and crawfish tails along with rice and cornbread. It was a feast! The bad: Really bad service. "Seat yourself" while musicians are performing? We had to flag someone down to just get menus. Flagged her down again to order food and drinks. Our beers arrived with our meal, and she never came back to take another drink order. So... we each only had one drink. Prices were reasonable and the food tasted great. But service was really bad. My suggestion would be to get a beer at the bar yourself and then find a seat to watch the great music.

Orange Whip and free acoustic set between 6-8:30pm

By djbubbletea |

I really enjoyed Buddy Guy's Legends! I was there on a Tuesday, and quite enjoyed the free, live acoustic set that they offer between 6 and 8:30pm. The two musicians/singers were excellent. The vibe was cool, and we were not rushed at all! Service was good, although the poor bartender seemed to be taking care of half of the very large room. Definitely recommend the Mac & Cheese! I was delighted to also order an Orange Whip (like in Blues Brothers), and it was delicious (want to make at home). Music memorabilia line the walls. Lots to see and listen to! It was definitely a destination for tourists.

Good value, great evening

By Ron B |

Menu was quite comprehensive and food we chose was good but not exceptional, although reasonably well priced. However, atmosphere and service was superb, with table staff being very attentive but never intrusive. We were staying on for the show that evening and so had arrived quite early to secure a good table but there seemed to be quite a few tables of people only dining, suggesting that the restaurant is popular in its own right and not just as an accompaniment to a show.

The Legend Himself was There

By E_Rodgers82 |

Went to Buddy Guy Legends for some Blues and Motown music. The place is very nice with a very diverse staff. Guitars from Blues legends including the "new" generation like Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck lined the walls and included a trophy case with Buddy Guy's four Grammy awards. The dinner consisted of pulled pork sandwich's, Caesar salad, jambalaya, corn bread washed down with beer. The house band was smokin' and Buddy Guy himself made an appearance and performed a song. What a treat and capped off a great evening!

Good food, good music, great vibe

By Sssshhhhhhh |

Stopped in for an early dinner, and was treated to some tasty food at affordable prices. Happy hour drinks were a bonus. The main attraction -- blues -- did not disappoint. We enjoyed several free sets (cover charge for later music) which were really very good. Will be back again the next time in Chicago.

Bucketlist!

By 0212anita |

something I just had to do!! luckily on the night we went, there was a new discovery for me, and her name is Miss Ivy Ford... the lady can play!!!! I'm totally in awe and yes I brought back to Australia one of her cds (thank you Ivy's mum) we were there early enough to have dinner of ribs and chicken fried steak, washed down with plenty of refreshing ale :)

Not Only for Tourists

By Carmensbreeze |

I had forgotten this jewel in the city. I am just reconnecting to blues music. Happy to have this in downtown Chicago. Its a great tourist attraction in a safe neighborhood full of high rise condos and rentals. The atmosphere is great with a cool vibe. And the layout for performances is close up and personal. The menu is perfect if you are hungry for a meal or just appetizers. I had a burger and GUMBO; cooked perfectly. We were a party of 4, one Californian and three Chicagoans. We had a great time! Now that it is back on my radar - I plan to hang out here more. It is a busy joint with pleasant staff.

Music is terrific

By James W |

No matter when I go the music is always terrific. Whether lunch time, evening or after 8 the music is what brings me back. Food is terrific so plan lunch or dinner here.

WOW!

By Rdnkh |

Our night here was the highlight of my US trip. Managed to get tickets for a night that the incomparable Mary Lane was performing, can not believe they only charge $10 entrance. Arrived at a reasonable time to get a good seat (first come first seated here) and have dinner. The menu is southern and very good, fantastic gumbo, BBQ etc. Drinks very reasonably priced and service excellent. The show was exceptional and we were extremely fortunate to go on a night when Buddy himself dropped in and then without fanfare got up and performed with Mary. It was a surprise experience and made the night even more memorable. Even if we hadn't seen Buddy Guy Mary Lane was fantastic and even if she hadn't been performing the place, food and other music still makes this a must when in Chicago.

worse service ever!

By Nicolás D |

I lived the worse experience in U.S. at Buddy Guy. I received the worse treatmen ever by one of the employees. My family and I visited the place, my father in law (who doesn't speak English) moved a chair and one of the staff start to yelling my father in law, I told him "sorry, we didn't know", and he continued yelling us, and saying that every night people moved chairs so he was pissed. I told him that this was our first visit and he continued yelling us. After that, the employee start to dance with other customes (as nothing has happened) Than man ruined our visit to Chicago. My father in law and my family realy can't believe such kind of treatment. Definitely the worse service worlwide ever!!!!

Got them catfish Blues!

By SamAdamsGhost |

The catfish smothered in crawfish etoufee was excellent! Fantastic value at $17. Gumbo was just OK. Attentive service. Walter Trout's show was incredible - one hell of a blues guitarist!

The smokers came for a show

By ybhk19 |

And opposite my common luck , itcwent onvthe day we got there. Had a light dinner and used the escape exit. One day, just one day ahead Buddy Guy will be there for a spontanic jam. Until then check twice their calendar

cheesy, but always some good music, and good beer

By register653 |

title says it all. Rather formulaic blues sets for the punters, but quality acts, none-the-less. Open mic night was good on the night I experienced it. Good beers. touristy ambience

Good Cajun food, great atmosphere

By Ben S |

My wife and I were there just to grab some Cajun food. Food was pretty good for Chicago (not New Orleans by any means). But the atmosphere and music was great. Would have loved to stay longer!

Lunchtime Blues

By hattrick225 |

Visited during a weekday lunchtime. Easy Redline from Mag Mile area. Lunchtime was not overly crowded, and service was great. They have an acoustic set at noon, so you can get your blues fix. Imagine nighttime shows are even better!

Great dinner and fantastic music

By Neil R |

Had a lovely evening here. Got in around 7.30 (free to get in) to get a good seat near the stage, watched an acoustic set and then they collected $10 to stay for the main event. Had dinner which was reasonably priced and really nice. I had the Jambalaya which I would recommend. Excellent service with beer and food and the music was amazing. Stayed till around 01:00, the music and the beer was that good. On this occasion, Buddy himself was there and did a little in the stage with the amazingly talented Jamiah Rogers. Would love to go back soon !

Best Blues in America

By Shannon M |

The music was great, food was DELICIOUS and the crowd was fun. Best of all - Buddy’s son, Jeff was very friendly and made rounds making sure everyone had a great time. Not to mention - he’s possibly the most beautiful man in the world. Hands down, fabulous night!

Music was great

By Averb |

I had the Chicken and Ribs with a gumbo and my wife has the shrimp and both were great. The music was fantastic and are waitress was checking on us frequently. All in all an excellent evening.

Nice place to get the blues!

By marialM3280HR |

We did not book in advance, but went early for dinner and drinks and stayed for the music. You have to pay a cover charge of USD 10 after 08.00 pm. Good menu and nice food and service. The atmosphere was good and intimate and music very good. Different artists during the week.

Rhythm and Blues on a Friday afternoon....

By maiagaia |

Having heard about Buddy Guy's Legends and having seen Buddy Guy ( a Chicago legend, himself) on TV, we were very happy we had the opportunity to visit the restaurant last Friday. We had just gotten in to Chicago to attend a Lewis Black performance and were quite hungry. We determined that Buddy Guy's was about a 20 minute walk from our hotel and the weather was quite decent. I called to make sure they were open for lunch; the receptionist was delightful and perky and mentioned lunch specials and tunes...SOLD! The restaurant features music on Wednesday - Saturday from 12-2, as well as spectacular talent every evening into the wee hours. The lunch special menu had enough selections to tempt us. I had the gumbo with a slice of cornbread for $5; my husband had an enormous hamburger with trimmings and red beans with rice for $7.95. This is truly cheap eats for lunch in downtown Chicago. The guitar player was entertaining and played great selections from the R & B songbook. The wait staff were very friendly and helpful. My husband asked for horseradish, one of the kitchen staff went to a different part of the building to get the horseradish and personally deliver it to my husband. We definitely will return to Buddy Guy's Legends on our next trip to downtown Chicago!

Big Blues Club with Lots of Memorabilia

By russell85 |

This is a big Blues Club That offers entertainment during lunch on Fridays and Saturdays with no cover. Big dance floor and bars at both ends of the club. We had lunch and the burgers and wings are both good. nice Caesar salad as well. This looks like a fun club at night.

The best night in town!

By Aline M |

Awesome music, great service, excellent music. Definitely, the perfect place to go if you spend the night in Chicago.

Blues. Chicago. Southern food

By Albertov1987 |

Very famous place where listen blues music. We supposed to have around 2 hours to enjoy our dinner but we could spend only 45 min after that they asked us the show fee. Probably It was a special event. Food is Ok; nothing special. Main dishes are from South.

great atmosphere, poor food

By Aoife N |

the music experience in buddy guy's did not disappoint, and i would recommend it as a place to visit, but not to eat! The food looked good and was plentiful but we could hardly eat it because of the amount of salt and sugar in it. other europeans we have spoken with agreed with us, it may be a difference of taste, and dont let that put anyone off a great musical experience!

A true legend for live music and BBQ

By Shelliu |

Buddy guys has excellent ribs to go with some of the best live music and iconic old-school atmosphere you would expect. The BBQ chicken and wings were just ok but if you stick to the ribs, you can't go wrong! Be prepared to pay a cover mist, if not all, nights so plan ahead.

Great Time!

By Jen H |

We had a great time here. The food was excellent and the entertainment was just as good. Will definitely recommend to others.

Dinner & drinks

By DragonDad |

Enjoyed some good meals and adult beverages. We arrived around 5pm and were told we could not be seated unless we paid cover charge for a show which wouldn't start until five hours later. That was not our intention so we started to plan for dining elsewhere. Before we could exit the host approached us and said we could eat at Bar but would have to leave when finished. That was just fine with us. Nice atmosphere with great memorabilia

What a fun Sunday afternoon

By kathy5980 |

We were walking back from a show on Michigan Ave, and headed over because heard they had good Southern food, and live jazz. The free music was fabulous, and food so fresh and delicious.

Fabulous atmosphere

What a fantastic place. From the memorabilia and accolades on the wall hailing Buddy Guy to the relaxed atmosphere. Food was great. Service and music even better.

Live music, tasty food, authentic atmosphere, impressive wall of fame of blues, very friendly staff. Ingredients to a perfectly spent night in Chicago!

Another pleasant experience

By maldenmusic |

We try to visit this place every time we are in Chicago. This visit was over Thanksgiving and we stopped in to eat a late lunch on Wednesday. We just missed the live music but ate a good meal of gumbo and catfish. Service was good and prices reasonable.

Buddy Guy performed!!

By jojak |

Our group went to Legends after the Blues Fest and we had the honor of watching Buddy Guy perform. A fun place with exceptional music.

Good option

By JAGJFW |

Walking around south loop area looking for a sit down restaurant with beer. Seemed every other place we walked by was "quick service " aimed at college kids, or simply a bar. We checked out Buddy Guys for dinner and were pleased. Good food (sandwiches and Cajun food) at good prices. They had a band coming in at 9:00 pm and wanted $10 per person to stay, we finished our meals and left, as we didn't know what or who the band was. But overall pleased with the food, price and service.

Great music

By Chris E |

Every time I am in the area, I try to make it to Buddy Guy's place. Went there Wednesday night and got a treat with Bear Williams on the stage. Great drinks, clean and comfortable. I am definitely a fan. Felt very safe walking at night from the hotel.

Fun and Inexpensive and awesome!

By biggestofdaves |

Thank God they were open for lunch, so I was able to corral the crowd and get them to walk there. And Live Music at lunch with no cover charge! Loved the music, loved the gumbo, loved the beer!

Wonderful lunch visit

By CannukGuy |

We couldn't leave town without visiting this legendary spot on our not-to-miss list in Chicago. We didn't get a chance to catch the evening entertainment during our stay so on the way out to the airport we stopped here for lunch. The place is like a shrine; neatly decorated with pictures of blues legends and their guitars on the walls. The lunch meal and entertainment, though not legendary, was pretty excellent. We enjoyed the delicious catfish tenders and bowls of gumbo while being entertained by native Chicago blues guitarist Mike Wheeler (unplugged). The staff was very friendly, we couldn't have picked a better way to wind up our Chicago visit.

Best night of our trip

By TheTravelistas |

Lively mature crowd. Great find. Drinks are a bit pricey but decent. Very entertaining. Buddy Guy himself popped in and performed. Really made our evening. Food menu could be better though but not bad.

Fantastic atmosphere if you are a Blues fan

By Anand K |

So i dragged one of my friend, who frankly did not care for Blues, across the town for one of the evenings and boy was he glad. My review may be biased because typically a good music tends to cause me overlook other. We were there for the evening when we there was a live band who played some phenomenal Blues. Food and drinks.. i think it could be as good as any other place. If you are looking for an experience and you are a Blues fan, then this is the place. It took me back to my days in early 2000s in Bangalore, India where similar place for Rock music was my hangout.

Playing for a cure!

Took in a night of blues at buddy guys restaurant, first time there and loved everything about it! Drinks and food was tasty, but the live music 🎶 was what Chicago is about! The cause was prostrate awareness, everyone came out to support! I enjoy myself and learned a few things I didn't know before. This place is a great place to just enjoy a night or afternoon out!

It looks like rain

Jimmy Burns concert, a little tired but superbly surrounded with a jam session then a little uneven but that is the idea... Buddy Guy took the stage in between to sing the blues: excellent. Cool Service inside but personal at the entrance a little rough! Great place not to miss when you're in Chicago and you love the six string...

Average blues venue

I paid $15 for a ticket to see a show, and I assumed that I would be able to sit at a table and order food. The place was packed when I arrived, and one of the employees told me that you had to arrive at least two hours before the show to get a seat. Instead I was herded into a tight little space with about a bunch of other people. The only service provided was a waitress walking around and taking drink orders. After the band took their second break the crowd started breaking up a little, and I was able to get a seat. The food was basic bar food, nothing special. Overall I would suggest visiting another club where you can get a seat and enjoy dinner and a show. Spending fifteen bucks to stand for two hours was not my idea of a great evening. If the website had been more clear regarding the tickets then I would definitely have gone somewhere else.

A little bit of USA

Brunch with friends - quick service, huge portions, typical American diner style food. Endless coffee - fantastic!! All in all very enjoyable, would go back again ;)

this place is legendary

The food is amazing, but get there early to get a table. The headliners tend to start around 9:30 pm or so. But the decor is really cool and the blues vibe is amazing.

A great music venue

This is the second visit and both occasions have provided good food, expertly served, to an accompaniment of good jazz, where the Margaritas come in pint glasses!!! 2 is enough but they are brilliant! as is the Mac n'Cheese, the best tasted in Chicago!

Great Place to Listen to Good Music, but come early

The music was really spectacular. Two different bands, both the greatest blues quality. But arriving just after 8, there were no place to sit and was really overcrowded.
