Soooo Gooood

If you’re a fan of tasty burgers, you’re going to love Burgerteca! Perfect place by the river on the Blue Star property. Did I mention the amazing margaritas? Don’t think about it, just go.

Don't want to miss!

This is an amazing Mexican style burger place and love the decor! It's a little hard to find so don't give up, when you get near, ask directions to actually find the little street. Friendly waitstaff, welcoming, clean , and fun! Plus. . on the river!

Burgerteca South Side of Downtown San Antonio

By Tnezz |

Finally got to try Burgerteca, I've been wanting to go since they opened. My wife and I made the drive from the NE Side of San Antonio since we had the time. I had seen some pics of the Pacifica which is a Seared Tuna Burger and couldn't wait to try it, I loved every bite. My wife had the Baja Fish burger, and although she said it was a little messy to eat she enjoyed it as well. If I have a complaint it's about the fries we ordered, the cheese and sweet sauce they poor over the fries causes the fries to get very soggy, but I get it they're "queso fries" so it's not that the flavor wasn't good just a texture thing for me. I think I'll ask for the queso on the Side next time. Other than that I have no complaints. The staff were very friendly and the restaurant was very clean. I'm looking forward to returning and trying a different burger....

A taste of Mexico with a twist!

Stopped on in while in Southtown Colorful decor pleasant staff Aaron was very knowledgeable with the menu and recommended a house favorite Al Pastor burger paired up with queso fundido fries Whoa! Ultimate flavor combo a definite favorite I now know and tasted why the queso fries paired well and were cheesy pun intended Aaron recommended the house made nieve so went for double scoop of dulce de leche with pecans and chocolate shavings nice creamy and full of flavor can't wait for my next visit!

Good Burger, A Little Cramped

By MeghanAnnRose |

We happened upon this place walking on the Mission Reach Trail. We both enjoyed our burgers and fries, and will definitely return. For the record, the queso fundido fries are great.

Great Food!!

By sunny1999 |

Have visited twice now Johnny Hernandez’s burger joint, Burgerteca. Both times the service and the meal has been outstanding! The chiliquila burger was out of this world along with the chili con queso fries. We topped off the meal with the ice cream nachos. In my opinion, they are not to be missed! In fact, maybe eat dessert first!!

Johnny does it again!

By TravelingFan22 |

We've gone to Johnny Hernandez's Fruteria almost every time we visit San Antonio, so we had to try his new Burgerteca. As usual, the food is interesting, the decor is creative and the service is good! We had hot dogs instead of burgers - BigTex Crispy Dog and the Mexican Street Dog. They came in a basket and were so full that it wasn't possible to eat in hand like a regular hot dog. We grabbed some utensils and enjoyed every bite. We parked on the street, but we found out later that there is parking in the building next door. It was busy when we were there, so plan to wait if you don't get there early. It's worth it though!

Woohoo!! Best burgers ever!

If you are looking for burgers with a twist, then this is your place. They’ve taken the burger and created new and interesting mouthwatering flavors. Check this place out!

Leave Room For Dessert!

By c2nit |

Great fries, amazing tasting burgers, and of course aguas frescas! But save room for the nieves, pallets, raspas, and all of the other great treats; Perfect for sitting on the patio, or walking the South end of the riverwalk! Great authentic decor and cuisine.

Night out with Friends

By Laurence |

The Staff was friendly and helpful. The food was decent. Burgers and Fries with a latin flare. I had La Enchilada Burger, it’s a burger with two enchiladas in the burger. It was good. The fries i had were the Chile con quest fries. I would go back and just get the fries if we go back. A friend had the Chicken Chipotle sandwich, she thought it was just another chicken sandwich nothing special.

Unique spin on the Burger

By questtraveler01 |

Hip, fun & kitchy interior w/bright colors, sugar skulls & other decor that makes Burgerteca special. Had the Salmon burger & Mole sauce FFries. The mole sauce is something you see in Mexican style cousine in San Antonio. Served hot & it has chocolate in it. Can’t say what the other ingredients are. It’s tasty but a bit heavy. I like it but for me it’s best on the side. The actual burgers my friends ordered were tasty. No complaints. Friendly service. Overall it’s a good place to eat.

Delicious & Unique Burger Place

By drdmromeo |

We had a delicious lunch in this bright, airy and fun restaurant in King William District. I had the Baja fish burger, which was really delicious. Husband had the chilaquiles burger, also fantastic. We split fries-- also yummy. The hamburger buns are homemade, the sauces on the burgers really great, and all the ingredients tasted super fresh. I highly recommend!

Disappointing

By TravelerRuth_12 |

we were traveling with someone that had gone to a Burgerteca in Houston and really enjoyed it. The wait staff was very good, and quick, but the restaurant was dirty, one of the menus we were given was obviously on the floor as there was a foot print on it from someones shoes. The burger was good, but the fries were rather greasy and bland. The restrooms were also a mess with towels everywhere, except the bin.

Full of Flavor

By Ticket To Ride - Travel Services |

The atmosphere is welcoming and festive and the service top-notch. We had the fries fundidos and they could be a meal on their own - absolutely delicious. The chilaquiles burger and al pastor were also flavorful, I especially enjoyed the shredded cabbage instead of lettuce. There is outdoor and indoor seating. Chairs are metal with some artsy wood seats also available. Would definitely recommend a try

Tasty

Amazing, unique, tasty burgers. Wait staff was super sweet and friendly. Very good deals during happy hour, too. Would return if in San Antonio again.

Eclectic, fun and casual!

Visiting from our of town for a volleyball tournament and went for dinner with our group. Service was efficient and friendly for our group of 9. MargaritAs on the rocks were just so so but the food was excellent! The mole burger was very tasty as were the chicken sandwiches. The fries were a huge hit. A few got salads which were huge portions and very fresh. It wasn't a nice day so we sat inside but this would be a fun place to sit outside and enjoy a meal.

Burgers and Fries Oh My!!!!

By KGuad |

First, our server Jacqueline was excellent. She answered every question and made sure I understood how the diet soda was made before I ordered. Which by the way, I loved the diet cola. The fries we ordered were Fries with Mole with queso fresco and with queso and sausage and may I say that either could have been a meal by itself, not to self, for lunch. My friends both had the chicken breast burger but I had the chilaquiles burger and the only words I can tell you is yummy!!!!! I really wish I would have had room for mango sorbet, they call it something different but I love the Latin version of Mango sorbet from anywhere but I was way too full. Everything was prepared with just the right amount of seasoning and again, the service was excellent. We were not rushed to leave and the scene was excellent for people watching and dog watching, as wells the scooter riders which I love. Great food, great company and a great time. Only suggestion is to add exterior fans to keep the flying bugs to a minimum because so close to the river there are more than in a normal setting.

Tasty mole sauce

By lietuva_9 |

We stopped in this place for a meal before a concert. This place is billed as Mexican/burger fusion, and that’s pretty much what it is. I had the Oaxaca, which is a burger with avocado and mole sauce. Tasty sauce, with just enough smokiness and rich flavor. I sorta should have used a knife and fork. My husband had a regular American burger. The side salads were pretty good. We were surprised that the burger seemed to have been a mass-produced patty rather than a hand-made patty, but it seemed to be decent meat. The place was larger than it looked from the street but it was noisy with just a few patrons in there. I can’t imagine how loud it would be full. Bright decor, with tree trunks for stools and outdoor seating. Though there’s street parking, there’s also a structure just a block or so away.

Best tasting burger in San Antonio?

By Gus_Sanchez |

When you want to really treat yourself to a fantastically-delicious burger, Burgerteca is the place to go! Besides the great tasting food, the atmosphere is fun, colorful and inviting. The staff was friendly and attentive. I am by no means a regular, having come here about 4 times over the course of 2 years. Each time, the experience has been wonderfully consistent. If I ate burgers more often, that number would be much higher. I have some decent options on the Northside of SA, but I knew the drive to Southtown would be worth it. And it certainly was!

Great burgers, fast service

By Frank A |

I'd been hearing about this place for a couple of months and we finally got around to going. Well worth the far trip down to Southtown. I'd recommend the Pastor burger and chile fries. Unfortunately, just like the other Johnny Hernandez restaurants I've been to...they *charge* for chips and salsa (in San Antonio!!!) I could have done without the gnats and flies.

Great vibe and spot

By Heath S |

Really cool spot. Very clean, friendly staff, great food and a nice selection of beers. I’m staying in the area for a month. This will be a nice place to drop into quite regularly. Especially at the end of a long week at work.

Burgerteca blew us away!

By RangerBob |

We found Burgerteca while on our morning walk from Downtown and had no idea how great of a restaurant we stumbled upon. The Al Pastor burger was hands-down one of the best, if not THE BEST, hamburger I have ever had. The Chef (not cook, repeat, Chef) came to our table to make sure everything was to our satisfaction and our server was fantastic as well. My wife enjoyed the house-made veggie burger after a suggestion by our server (and she is not a vegetarian) and she said if all vegetarian meals tasted as good as this one, she would be one! Definitely give it a try!

Food ;)

Good Service and Food and nice place to walk around outside after eating . Will come back again next time visiting here ;)

Delicious and interesting burgers

By sidchen2017 |

Our scooter tour guide recommended Burgerteca as a great place for lunch and he was absolutely right. We ordered the Oaxaca, the Chilaquiles, and the La Veggie. They were all very tasty and delicious- just the thing after a full morning scootering the Riverwalk. Service was friendly and helpful and the bright decor was a lot of fun. The burgers are filling and are a good value for the portions. Would definitely return if I'm in the area.

SA/Austin Food writer

By Kenneth H |

I read an article in the paper about Burgeteca that well, lets just say (very low score). We dine at all of Chef Hernandez locations (La Gloria Pearl, The Fruteria, el machito when it was open) and was shocked at the score the food writer gave Burgeteca! A 0...... My wife and I have eaten here twice now..... and both times excellent. We are not sure if this was a personal thing against the Chef, but I can tell you from living downtown on and around the River Walk, we have had some bad experiences..... but NEVER at any location a 0. With that said, we will be repeat customers and also we have shared the love for this location with our downtown peeps. If you read the 0 review, toss in in the garbage and or use it to help start a fire..... Just not the case! We have leaned on the Chef in the pass about his portion sizes (I think a bit small) and I get it - tapa style...(I'm from Spain I get it)... But at this location - NICE PORTIONS!!! Thx Chef PS our second visit was a Social Group from San Antonio Thirsty Thursdays San Antonio ...... 15 folks. All great feed back from the group. When we visit local establishments - we give them HONEST FEED BACK to help the GM/owners.

Dirty chef

By Enrique C |

I was seated facing the kitchen and noticed the food prep guy walking upstairs wearing his black sanitary gloves, he had just finished making our burgers with the same gloves. He quickly came back down stairs holding the railing and the wall. He never replaced the gloves, after realizing what he was doing I paid close attention and saw him scratching his hairy arm with the same glove!! Meals for the next guest were prepared all while wearing the not so sanitary gloves. I’m sure in hindsight he was already contaminated well before our food was made. Won’t be back there!! Other than that the waitress was very pleasant

Full of flavor!

By Pola M |

Enjoyed a flavorful burger at Burgerteca. Great environment, excellent service. The fries fundidas were fantastic. We ordered the Burger Al Pastor and the Burger chilequiles - both packed with flavor. The meat itself is lean but the toppings were fresh and the bun delicious. We were too full to order dessert but we’d like to go back for the ice cream nachos

Burgers with the taste of México!

By PD Travels |

We ordered the Pastor Burger which was really good it even came with a slice of pineapple just like real tacos al pastor! The fries were fried to perfection, crispy outside and soft inside, with just the right amount of salt. Our friends order the mole frie, a nice combination of flavors. We also had the hot dog wich was good but not outstanding. Another restaurant from Chef Johnny Hernandez (La Gloria @ The Pearl, The Frutería) Overall great experience! Located at the Blue Star complex, great trendy area to walk around in downtown!

Great veggie burger

By JonDkinn |

I thoroughly enjoyed the veggie burger. It’s the best I have had. My son had the kids burger- said it tasted like it was dunked in butter.

Fun variety of burgers

By Steven W |

This looked like a fun place, so we came here for dinner. Several different varieties of burgers with a Mexican fusion flair. We tried a few different burgers and everyone really enjoyed them. The tater tots were also really good. A fun place for something different than a traditional burger.

Nice Surprise

By kidflemingo |

I was in town on a business trip and someone suggested that I try this place and I am glad they did. The place has a funky vide which I really liked. The service and food was great. I had a hamburger and it was cooked perfectly and had a ton of flavor. I would eat here all the time if I live in SA. I will be back.

Tasty and Unique Burgers

By Gary H |

These guys from the future and knocking out some seriously good burgers. Plus they offer a seared tuna, a battered cod and a grilled chicken breast "burger". Hot dogs and salads are equally good.
