My wife and I decided to try this place on a Thursday night around 8pm. The wait was about 45 minutes. There are plenty of other restaurants, from all over the world, on this street, but we decided to wait for our table at Burma Superstar. It was well worth the wait! The food was fantastic! We started with the recommended salad and for the main courses decided on a chicken noodle curry and a beef curry with mango rice! GREAT FLAVOR AND BETTER SERVICE! The price seemed reasonable at around $12-16 per dish. Our total was about 45 dollars and well worth it. We will be back!

I visited here for a late lunch. I arrived around 2pm and had no wait for a table. I am a vegetarian, so I'm always looking for places with a lot of vegetarian options and this one definitely had a good selection. I had the sesame tofu, which was delicious! I also had the pu-erh tea, which I enjoyed. The service was fast and I loved my food. I would definitely come here again.

We went for lunch on a weekday and were seated immediately. Staff was friendly and charming, helpful and efficient. We shared the chicken samusas and the tea leaf salad. Salad portion size is perfect for two - available with 'everything' or as a veg option. Both dishes were outstanding. We'll definitely have to return to try other dishes!! Parking can be a bit of a challenge on this busy restaurant street. Metered along Clement, but we were able to find an unmetered spot two blocks away.

Fantastic little find. Worth waiting for a table and also worth joining the waiting list in advance of arriving. We were a couple and chose to sit at the shared table which was great and spacious. Food was fantastic as was the service, this is a must visit

I always look forward to visiting Burma Superstar on Clement street in San Francisco. The food is great once you get a table and therein lies the challenge! Parking is next to impossible and average wait time once you register your name at the restaurant can be anywhere from 30-60 minutes! But these challenges are worth the tasty food! The Tea leaf salad is a must! There are several ingredients which are mixed together by the server. The taste is quite unique. The fiery vegetables or seafood are also very good. Well worth a visit.

Went with friends after a movie. Very busy....half hour wait. Service very good. Food was tasty and we shared several dishes, all very good. Jasmine rice was wonderful.

Atmosphere is really unusual and inviting. Service is very good unless it's one of those overcrowded times with people crowding the street to get in, then it's spotty. The food is very good, unique, and consistent. Most everything is shareable and family style. Noise level can be pretty high depending on the crowd. It's a trendy neighborhood place. No reservations unless you are 6 or more. Difficult parking. The food a block or so away at B-Star is tastier. But not the same atmosphere. More open and airy.

Booked on Yelp, waited 45m in the rain but well worth the effort. Burmese fusion of Indian inspired samosas, Thai fresh coconut & oodles of flavorful noodles as well as the finger licking good Garlic shrimp. Desserts were intriguing, extraordinarily tasty. New favorite dining in Richmond area. We’ll be back😋

Came to this restaurant on someones recommendation. Menu sounded strange, so we were apprehensive.Told to order the Tea Leaf Salad, and we did. Ingredients sounded very strange. Did not look appealing when it was brought out, but better after server prepared and tossed it. This was the best salad I have ever had. Every bite has a different taste with each ingredient you get, and all ingredients will be tasted, not just mashed together. It is clearly a party in your mouth. Every plate we saw being served looked delicious, but I think this is the clear winner.

Exceptionally good food, good service, you can choose the spiciness and rely on it. One of the best restaurants we have visited

Burma Superstar is the best! Love coming here to eat. Great little place with awesome and delicious food! Anything on the menu is good, but the Tea Leaf salad is the best!

I have been to this restaurant for many years with so much expectation and joy. For the last two times , apart from the cocktails and the salads , Burma superstars is no longer on my safe list for a great meal. As prices rose like every where in this city, the meat quality has fallen to the level of an industrial meat factory : no taste, no fat to elevate the sauce - it’s like if the chef has changed meat vendor to clement street . Order vegetable if you can’t cancel this restaurant… until produces grow above soil in hydroponical whetehouses.

For those craving for Asian food should visit this restaurant. I've been there twice, ordered 8 different dishes. All 8 dishes are delicious. Moreover, the price is reasonable.

Located in the Inner Richmond District on Clement Street, the Burma Superstar is a small neighborhood restaurant with a delicious, unique menu. Because there is limited seating with maybe 14 tables, wait times can be considerable. Arrive early before noon for lunch on a weekday and occasionally you'll be seated immediately as I was on a Monday. The tea leaf salad is memorable and a must. Service is friendly and the atmosphere relaxed. If you are a single diner, a large oval table that seats 6-8 is often your best option and you get to chat with many locals. I lived in the Richmond district for 20+ years when Clement Street transitioned to have 70+ Asian restaurants on the ten block stretch from Arguello to 11th Avenue and Burma Superstar is among the best and most unique in the area. There is a bench and tea service for those waiting for a table.

We had read it was a very busy place but thought it would be okay since it was a Thursday. We still had to wait 45min on the waiting list to get a table for two, they explained that it was always this busy no matter what day. We just went straight across the street and had a beer and waited to get a call. We had already chosen the meal while we waited in the line and it took around 5-10min before we got the food. The food tasted amazing, it was worth waiting and every penny! We had chicken and lamb and coconut-rice. The combination was delicious! The bill came straight after we were done eating so we didn’t feel like sitting there and enjoy for more beer. But all inn all, it was a very good food experience and the staff was friendly.

Everyone mentions it so you know it is fabulous. There is quite a long wait to get a table but...it's well worth the wait!

Loved the Rainbow salad and the “bread” with curry dipping sauce. Unique and delicious food. We arrived around 6 on a Wednesday and wait for a party of four was brief. Would definitely return to explore more menu options. One of the best meals we enjoyed in San Francisco!

Super delicious! Try the Chili Lamb and the walnut shrimp was unusual, but very good. Lots of walnuts! we also enjoyed the noodles - the advice was great and very friendly.

Very very good food , not very expensive , reasonable priced . Good selection of variety, even for vegetarians. Garlic shrimp is a must tey. Chicken is cooked very nice and tender . Excellent service , great drinks , make sure u leave space for desert. They have option of waitlist to be done on line and don’t need to go and wait there . This is the best option, wish all the restaurants adopt . I placed my name on waitlist from my hotel room and reached there as the expected time suggested by the website , then I had to wait like 10 minutes and I was seated .food is great 👍👍

We live in the area and have wanted to try this place for a long time based on all the reviews we have read. We were on Clement Street around 12:45 pm in the afternoon the Saturday after Thanksgiving and got lucky with parking close by. We took the spot and walked over to the restaurant. There was a table for our party of 3 immediately, right in the front next to the window. We grabbed it with no wait. The service of the wait staff was excellent. They were all friendly, helpful and eager to point out their signature dishes. The place was completely packed and we figured this was going to be good. We ordered Sangria to start which I thought right off was just so so. The menu looked interesting so we ordered. We chose the salt & pepper chicken to start off from the appetizer section. It was a very sizeable portion but the sauce did not do the dish any favor. It was flat. We ordered the Rainbow Salad, Sesame Chicken and noodle dish Nan Pia Dok. The Sesame chicken dish was not very vibrant or flavorful as well. The Rainbow salad is made with 22 ingredients and was probably the best of the 4 items ordered but still nothing to write home about. They bring the dish out on a small platter and mix the ingredients together in front of you. This was a very nice touch. Lastly was the noodle dish and it too was mixed in front of us at the table in a similar manner as the Rainbow Salad. It was very good but quite rich in flavor. After we were about half way through the dish we could not eat any more……too rich. While we understand there are tons of people who love this place, we didn’t quite get it. The flavors were just a little off for us and did not quite hit the spot. Lunch was in the $75 range for the 4 dishes, a cup of ice tea and a small glass of Sangria. For the cost, it is restaurants like these that make me not want to go check out something new over something known.

This place needs a booking to be done in advance as it is quite full. Inspite of our booking we had to wait a few minutes. However it is totally worth it. The food offered has an option for vegetarian and eggless. The food is tastefully spicy. The coconut rice dish is recommended. The service was friendly and I was guided on the menu for the vegetarian variations.

Visited numerous times. Always crowded, Some of their dishes are very good and some of their drinks unusual but good. If you don't mind the crowd and the wait you should try it at least once

I would go back in a heartbeat. Tiny, busy, yet fun and upbeat atmosphere! Great service. Unique food and flavors. Loved everything about it, but I tend to like off-the-beaten path experiences, not a white table cloth/vanilla experience

Waitstaff takes the time to explain the selections and they answer all your questions. Tasty food. Get there early or you will have to wait on the sidewalk.

We went at 9 PM when it just began to slow down. Every dish was good and interesting, food we were not familiar with. Would I travel 30 minutes to go - unlikely.

We waited for 1.5hrs to be seated on a Saturday night. Was it worth the wait? Absolutely 100%! We had the: Tea leaf salad Noodle superstar Sesame tofu Mango chicken Tofu Okra Broccoli (sides) They were all super delicious, especially the mango chicken. The sesame tofu is a sweet and sour dressing. We felt it was too sweet for our liking and are a bit over deep fried food. The broccoli is highly recommended. Overall, I highly recommend this place and would go again any time.

We were recommended this place for a meal but couldn’t get the hang of getting on the wait list so we just went to the restaurant. We were lucky and only had to wait 10 mins. Had the famous tea leaf salad which was ok but the aubergine curry was great. The staff are all very energetic and helpful and the place has a good vibe.

We arrived here during lunch and were lucky to find a table without waiting which was a first. We ordered the house Burmese ale which was almost like a wheat beer with a tinge of sour after taste. It was refreshing and fresh. Our server was very friendly and helped suggest the tea leaf salad which is a definite must! There are several ingredients which are mixed together by the server. The taste is quite unique. We also ordered the sesame chicken which was a bit too sweet for my liking - very similar to the Chinese orange chicken. We also ordered the Fiery chicken which was simply awesome! The food hit the spot! Overall great food but avoid visiting for dinner or in the weekends or be ready to play musical chairs in finding parking and then waiting 30-60 minutes for a table.

I was in the art store looking at a coloring book of famous spots in SF, and this restaurant was in it with the rest of our "historical landmarks". I don't get that, but... Love this spot. I like the fact you put your name in and they text you when your table is ready. It allows you to roam Clement street for a few drinks and nightlife until your spot is ready. The food is good across the board but the two specialty salads (green tea & Rainbow) are the ones to try for sure as I am sure all other reviews declare. They have their sister restaurant down the street if you are desperate for a table sooner. Good atmosphere and service makes it an overall great experience.

This is the first time I’ve had Burmese food. Food and service were excellent. Large selection and some spicy food, which I love.

Arrived to see a queue but we had been warned so it wasn't a surprise! Decided instead of waiting, we would take away. The staff were lovely and helpful and gave us tea outside whilst we waited. The food did not disappoint - SO good.

Great fusion of Vietnamese, Thai, Chinese and Indian. Never had anything like it and loved it all. Small, may have to stand in line to get in. Worth it

While visiting SF, we decided to make a reservation at this place after having heard so many good reviews and wow, they really live up to their reputation! The quality of their food and service was really nice and in an accesible price for portions we ordered to share between us 3. Veggie options are delicious!!

Really tasty food! =) We had spicey chicken, chicken with fresh basil, the house salad, jasmine rice with spices (can't remember the name, but the taste is unforgettable). Total of USD 66 for two, including a half bottle of wine and taxes (service not included). Highly recommend.

Our bike tour guide recommended this place and we were not disappointed. I’ve never had Burmese food before and didn’t know what to expect and it was outstanding. We had the rainbow salad, tea leaf salad, Samusas, Veggie Samusas soup and the platha bread w/ dip. We were too full to eat a main dish but these were so delicious and all the dishes on the other tables looked amazing. The service was outstanding as well. They brought dishes out right after we ordered each one. We were lucky and didn’t have to wait but if you have to wait it’s well worth it.

We loved the georgeous food at Burma Superstar Restaurant. We had a few dishes and all of them were extreemely tasty and spicy. This is one of the best restaurants of this kind we have been to. It is authentic and honest - the food is the main issue here even if the service is also very good. The restaurant was packed and lively. We highly recommend it.

What a super great bunch of warm and friendly smiley face people who really care about outstanding customer service. We had a large group and had a great time.

What a great place! The Tea leaf salad was fantastic. The best salad we’ve ever had. My girlfriend and I ordered the salad and pork curry to share, but ended up ordering another tea leaf salad because it was so good. Pork curry was excellent too! 10/10 would recommend.

I eat here several times a month. Have eaten my way up one side and down another on the menu. Always been happy. Not expensive

A friend of my brother’s is leaving town and my brother asked him what places he would recommend we go to during my visit. He immediately said Burma Superstar and the tea leaf salad, so we had to go there! It was incredible. The tea leaf salad was beyond belief and the pumpkin pork stew was fantastic. Our servers were Lindy and Steven, both of whom were divine. I hope they’ll still be there on my next visit, I’d love to see them again.

Burma has been around for over 30 years. I always go here when I want to try some different Asian food. Everything is amazing here. I think it's reasonably price for SF. Although SF is one of the most expensive places to eat in the USA. The only negative is they don't take reservations. So get ready to stand in line or get their early. But Burma always delivers.

Good Restaurant of Burma food. Prices ok. Service good. One's of the problems is that you have to wait outside. Specially when is windy, San Francisco is quite cold. The food when you order them they come out fast. Excelent the mango lassy. The lamb curry not very good. Lamb very hard to chew it. Is a good place to eat this Burmese food.

The food is fantastic but the wait to get in is harsh. Believe me it is worth the wait. I had never had Burmese food at a restaurant before only home cooked by a friend. This was sublime.

It was worth the wait. We enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. It’s fun to try foods that are unusual and share plates.

We were really excited to come to this place but perhaps our expectations were too high. The menu has a lot of delicious options (veg included!). We got two of the vegetarian dishes and felt one of them really lacked flavor. It was certainly an experience though because we never have had the opportunity to try Burmese food. Probably wouldn't come back again.

Great service you must a bit but is worst it great tea salad yummm my friend love the place is always lines because food is good

Great place but small and pretty much always a line-up. We went a half hour before opening (they don't take reservations) and by the time we got it there was a long lineup and several people sitting outside on a night where I wouldn't. Broad menu, great taste, accommodating staff. Not much in the beer department and hard to really gauge how much to order for sharing, we ordered more than we really needed but it was so good, we ate it all anyway.

Burma Superstar is really popular and there is always a line during peak hour. The decor is adorable and the ambiance is really cozy. It was my first time to try Burmese food and it was delicious. There were some cuisines similar to Malaysian or Philippine food and they really matched our expectation. The options on the menu weren’t various but it’s still difficult for the 1st-time visitors. Thank friendly staff for being helpful and giving us great recommendations. The food was amazingly great especially for the braised beef which was cooked tender and well flavored.

So delicious, everything was worthy of a repeat order. Staff is very attentive, but we did feel a little rushed to eat as the line outside was long (probably because the food is so good). Worth every penny, I always make sure to eat here when I'm in San Fracisco

This place had great reviews and was just round the corner from us so we thought we would check it out. There was a big wait (over an hour) but the food was worth it. Very flavoursome, lots of choice and big portions. Would recommend!

We were told to get here early or we'd wait in line to get in. We got there early and still waited. And it was worth it. Super yummy vegetarian and the meat eaters were happy as well. Interesting, tasty salad.

This is such a great restaurant. We came in to the city for my daughters 22nd birthday and she picked where she wanted to eat. We where so happy. The host who was also our waiter was charming and very nice. The food was delicious. We visited the one in Oakland and this one was even better.

We went to Burma Superstar for dinner last Sunday with prior reservation.A totally crowded restaurant on a weekend.Had to wait outside on the roadside for 20 minutes to be seated in .A very crammed up seating .Went for lemon- ginger beer with Tea Leaf salad for appetizer and Fiery Chicken,Veggy Delight and Tofu with vegetables with rice and fried rice for the main course.Food is very tasty and well cooked and the service excellent.Justifies its popularity in San Francisco .

This little restaurant serves up some amazing food. Be sure to get the Tea Leaf Salad and the Plata Dip Starter. Get there early because they don’t take reservations and the line builds up quickly.

Friendly staff, excellent food: tea leaves salad. But extremely crowded, arrive early. Worth the wait.

We stayed in an Airbnb nearby and the aroma took us there cause it fills the neighborhood. The place was packed and still managed to sit us in 5 minutes. The hostess was so kind to guide us through our first Burmese meal she even suggested the best IPA to go with our food . Absolutely everything we ordered was perfect and on time as we were starving . On my top list ; will come every time I visit my daughter.

I practically grew up in this neighborhood and love this place, apparently everyone else does too since it still has a long queue out the door. The East Bay outposts (Oakland and Alameda) fall short of the original. I'm probably a lone wolf here but I hate the ti leaf salad because I don't care for it's bitterness. Platha is always a winner! Basil Pork Belly, Superstar Shrimp The lamb Enjoy!

Delicious food and enormous portions (and we ordered the regular, not large, sizes). Two of us split the tea leaf salad, rainbow salad, samusa soup, eggplant with garlic sauce, and coconut rice. Everything was delicious and filling and we both took leftovers home. Friendly, attentive, quick service and really amazing food. Highly recommend!

We went to Burma Superstar on Clement street - what's the hype? We were sitting there outside under the heater for 40 minutes waiting for a table. Got in, it was awfully noisy, tables too close to each other, like sitting at one large table. Paula wanted appetizers, so we got samusa - dough filled with lumpy mashed potatoes and should've been veggies there, so yes, we saw a few peas. Most of the dishes with better ingredients were spicy hot with note on the menu: cannot be made mild. We got some overpriced chicken and a fried tofu dish which was good. Overall, was not worth it.

Lunch special of half of a Tea Leaf Salad and the Samusa soup was fantastic...not like another salad ever ...and just amazing....Ordered the pork curry suggested by the waitress and without cilantro. Received chicken cut up in little bony pieces with loads of cilantro...we ate it not knowing it wasn't pork until someone came and apologized....the mint salad had loads of cilantro and the chicken was in kind of fatty. bits...the sauce was great, the rice we ordered we didn't get either. The coconut fritters with fruit and coconut ice cream were crunchy, not greasy and delicious...highly recommend those too. Would return in a heartbeat, but would double check the entree and go vegetarian to avoid the odd chunks of meat.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been to Burma super star half dozen times in the last few years. I love the rainbow salad I love the tea leaf salad and the staff is very obliging and efficient. Monday night we got in line at 4:50 and waiting for the doors to open at 5 PM. (every member of your party must be present before you’re seated.) My friends and I agreed that the portion of the salads was much smaller than the last time we were there.

This place has is fabulous, with very friendly staff and delicious food. Plenty of variety and quite a unique cuisine

Went before they close and couldn’t have been more accommodating. Food was excellent especially the tea leaf salad and we also had sesame chicken which was also good

Burma Superstar Restaurant is a Fabulous Local eatery with a few unique dishes and a number of Burmese classics. Always a line so go early, put your name in and walk the neighborhood. Rainbow salad is a favorite. Very reasonable prices and excellent food. The only downside is the wait time, but to be expected in SF for such a fabulous restaurant!

We were a family of 7, so needed to get it right....so got in line at 4:30 on a saturday night. Parking nearby not a problem. Line already had maybe 25 people at that time. But once the doors opened at 5pm the whole line emptied into the restaurant and no more line thereafter! We got the big round table that had a turntable, which was great. Ordering drinks and starters and main dishes was slightly chaotic, and the kitchen was probably overwhelmed by 50 people all ordering at once at 5pm.....but service was friendly and patient with us. The menu was full of wonderful new dishes we had never ordered before...leading us to over order..but left with a lot of great lunches for next day. Absolutely no negative comments to make and for sure will return.

We ordered the coconut rice (delicious); sticky fingers - ribs in a great sauce (delicious); superstar shrimp (spiced really well and delicious), tea leaf salad (awesome); fiery beef - very hot/spicy (delicious); classic chicken and shrimp casserole (just okay). Wow. What a wonderful meal. They are packed but we only waited 15-20 minutes to get a table. Staff is friendly and efficient. The restaurant is small so it can get loud being so full of patrons

There is always a wait here but it's definitely worth it. The food was delicious. It was our first time trying Burmese food and we were delighted. Can't wait to come back

Fantastic food and service but very noisy, crammed and crowded, maybe a testament to its popularity. Does not take reservations but worth the wait. Tea leaf salda is especially good.

Way too long of a wait, probably because of the hype surrounded by this place. Action Bronson "That's Delicious" turned a good place into a chaotic mess, which really sucks, because this place used to have really good food at reasonable prices with an average wait. Now when you walk down Clement, it looks like a line for a Night Club. Expect a long wait, smaller portions and prices have gone through the roof! Staff is still wonderful, food still deliousus (no pun intended) which is why I keep coming back.

Walk in whilst in the area and ended up being one of the best meals I’ve had. Really vibrant atmosphere and friendly staff along with some interesting dishes

Burma Super Star After a long San Francisco absence this country couple finally made it to our fondly remembered bliss at Burma Super Star on Clement Your cuisine remains mouth-watering satisfying Watching eyes open wide over your tea salad Gratified that this has not changed We were completely overwhelmed by your kind hospitality. Such gracious solicitude and patience, allowing us great leeway in our reservations Giving us precious time to city acclimate To find our way around parking meters even giving us quarters to start the meter Your outdoor dining was quite comfortable and for one of us an essential requirement Your attention to our varied and conflicting needs was an awesome achievement of personal care and y’all kept pleasing us our whole meal Bill Bruneau (bbruneau.com-new)

Okay. You know we are noobs when we don’t realise there will be a 1.5 hour wait for a table at this restaurant. We made the mistake of not reading the reviews and only decided to eat here based on the 1500 yelp reviews and the diverse vegetarian options. We ordered: Thai ice tea: this was good. Kind of expensive but the $1 refills make it okay. Tea leaf salad: okay so this was recommended to us by the waitress. And it’s worth it. Best damn salad ever. Must try. The quality was less according to the price. But still very good. Vegetarian lettuce cups: although this as good it wasn’t what I was expecting. I was expecting a fresh salad but the filling was cooked. Coconut rice: this was yum Vegetable deluxe curry: our least favourite dish. Don’t get me wrong. It was slightly above average but it was missing tofu which was promised on the menu. And the flavours weren’t all that impressive. Would we go here again? Yes sure if we lived in SFO. Since we are visiting we will probably try other restaurants. Call ahead and make a reservation for dinner. Otherwise you’ll be waiting in line forever.

I think Burma uses some msg because ...msg burps and stomach ache. That being said, we enjoyed the food while we were there. The tea leaf salad and the coconut rice were delicious. The noodle dishes were just okay for us. We had the black rice pudding which was okay (if you have had Rice To Riches then it is an unfair comparison), but the coconut ice cream on the rice pudding was amazing.

This is one of my favorite restaurants. Everything I’ve ever had is wonderful. The samosa soup is extremely flavorful with great textures. The neighborhood is also great for an interesting walk.

We enjoyed the tea leaf salad (i ate without the chili peppers), vegetarian samosa soup, coconut rice, green beans, beef curry, a chicken dish, jasmine tea and fried coconut pudding with ice cream and fruit, served family style. Ryan told us it would be a 45 minute wait for a party of 5 because a party of 12 had signed in right before us on a Monday evening. However, we only waited about 15-20minutes, the party of 12 had to wait about 45 minutes and squeezed into the huge round table (that usually sat multiples of 1 or 2 persons community style). It was a nice treat to have authentic burmese food (my mom hasn't had since she fled Burma during WWII) and a first for me!

I had lunch here on a weekday and it was crazy packed. It's a very small space and they do lunch specials so there were swarms of people. The food was good and fun to try (I never had Burmese food before) but personally the crowded atmosphere ruined the experience for me. They put the tables extremely close together so everyone is sitting practically on top of each other and you can't have a private conversation.

Fiery chicken and veggies were great! Visited with a teenager who loved the platha and sesame beef. Not much of a long wait on a weeknight.

Amazing!! The fiery chicken and mango pork curry was amazing as was the spiced rice. A must when in San Fran

We ordered a wide variety of food to share amongst all of us. The crispy tofu appetizer was especially delicious. I had the mango shrimp and found it quite tasty, it had a little bit of spice, but not too bad. We also ordered the tofu tower, and everyone said it was also very good. I would definitely go here again. They are very busy though - I heard it was hard to get a table. We ordered and picked it up to eat at home and everything arrived in great condition.

After seeing this place on an episode of Action Bronson’s “F*ck That’s Delicious”, it was a priority to eat here upon arriving in Frisco. Absolutely delicious lunch. The tea leaf salad was tremendous as a starter. Can be shared between 2-3 people. My wife’s fiery beef dish was excellent as was my chicken Nan Gyi Dok (rice noodles with coconut curry). The rice pudding dessert was a perfect conclusion to the meal. I also loved their Thai iced tea which isn’t as sweet as they make it back home in NY. It is also made with less cream. Service was very good and attentive. Our waitress was friendly and took the time to explain what goes in to each dish. This place is a must if you are looking for a unique Asian dining experience.

The wait is long---over an hour. We ended up going across the street to Genki---for a delicious crepe while we waited. The waiters were knowledgeable and attentive. The platha and dip was tasty. We ordered the tea leaf salad---it was decent but not my favorite. I ordered the Burmese style curry lamb dish that was heaven. I put it over coconut rice and it really was pure perfection. We wanted to order something else so got a noodle dish. It was just ok but lacked flavor in my opinion. For dessert, we ordered something that was fried with coconut ice cream. It was very delicious. I would definitely come here again. The flavors were fantastic!!

As we waited for a table, a delicious jasmine tea was served. The service is very competent and kind. The food is particularly good, with balanced spices.

I have eaten here at least 15 times. The Burmese food is excellent, but it is very popular so one often has to wait for a table. They do not take reservations, so best to go early even at lunch and in a small group. They do serve you tea while you wait, though. Parking is tight. If you go, I can recommend all of these things: tea leaf salad, samusa soup, mohinga soup, pork and pumpkin curry, the noodle dishes, well everything I have had there is really good. It is not my favorite of the local tea leaf salads (I prefer Mandalay's). Parking is tight in this area.

There is often a wait at Burma superstar, but the menu is creative, delicious, and interesting. You can call ahead to put your name down, or you can wander the area while you wait. The other option is to try their sister restaurant BStar, just down the block.

I LOVED this restaurant. The tea leaf salad and the samosa soup were both amazing. My husband got a vegetarian curry dish which i also loved (and i don't even like curry!) The wait staff is wonderful, and the service was excellent. You might have to wait for a bit, but trust me when i say, its worth the wait!!!

I had the signature tea leaf salad. $14. It tasted good but was very small. I was underwhelmed. Staff is nice. But $14 for a small salad.?

Wow. Awesome food, timely and fairly priced. The tastes were truly authentic. My entire family including kids loved it. Well done and highly recommended.

There was a queue of mainly young people outside when we arrived, which served to confirm the recommendation we had received for this restaurant. Sadly, we felt deceived. A enjoyed the vegetarian samusa soup and S ate some without complaint. The catfish was largely uneaten. There is some unusual and distinctive flavour in the Nan Gyi Dok (coconut chicken rice noodle curry) - something fermented or turned, I think - that S and I both disliked so strongly that neither of us had a third mouthful; and the jasmine rice was pretty tasteless. The coconut rice was fine. So what we actually ate was the spicy and crispy chicken, which was nothing special. Whatever "tang" and garlic there may be in the dish is overwhelmed by the sweetness of the sauce.

We read about the queues at Burma Superstar so we skipped lunch and got there on a weekday just after 5:00pm for early dinner. We were fortunate to get a table straight away. What stood out: 1. The team Despite the fact that the restaurant filled up very fast, they were all courteous and very polite. Our waiter was talkative and full of interesting facts about the food and about San Francisco. Great energy, great humour within a very lively atmosphere. 2. The Tea Salad We had a number of dishes including the Chicken Dahl, the Samusas and more. The dish that stood out was the Tea Salad. Never had a Tea Salad before and it was very special. Interesting, different and tasty. It comes out deconstructed, the waiter explains the ingredients and then mixes the salad. The Chicken Dhal curry was also very good. It did was not as rich as some Indian curries and it was very different vs Thai curries in regards to base ingredients. It was more on the sweet curry side vs hot chilli curry. Note: the chicken comes chopped on the bone which is common in some Asian countries but not in western restaurants. I give Burma Superstar a four rating as we currently live in South East Asia and we are lucky to be able to experience a lot of the cuisines and flavours of this wonderful part of the world. Burma Superstar serves great food but apart from the Tea Salad the rest were somewhat familiar flavours and not a novelty for us. This does not take away though from the great experience this restaurant and its energetic team provide! Overall a great restaurant in San Francisco and it deserves a visit if you like South East Asian or simply tasty food!

Great!!! Be prepared to wait (we went on a Friday evening and waited over an hour) and maybe have some stores to browse nearbt while waiting to be called. Very packed place right next to other people. Extremely fast and good customer service. GREAT food- everything is true what others have said! Good experience overall and will return if back in San Fran!

This place is a little gem. The food is superb. We had the green tea leaf salad as recommended and it didn’t disappoint, then for main, the pork & pickled mango curry and the nan pia dok (a chicken noodle dish), and for dessert shared the black rice pudding. All of the food was absolutely delicious, a great balance of flavours, not too spicy (obviously there were more spicy options for those who prefer spice) and good sized portions. The service was also great, we didn’t feel hurried out of the restaurant and weren’t sat waiting at all either. The waitress was attentive but also gave us the space to enjoy or meal. Would highly recommend.

I was in town for a conference and 4 of us went for a late dinner. The drinks were too expensive, the appetizers were OK but the entrees were good

It was definitely a long wait for our party of 5 as we watched people who came after us get seated before we were. We informed the hostess the driver was looking for a parking spot, but we can be seated as we can order immediately. Definitely felt this was unfair on the waiting system. Food was tasty and service good, but not worth the unfairness of waiting the extra time for a table. Definitely a busy area to find parking. Many other restaurants go by the honor system of first come first serve basis.

Love all three of these restaurants in SF - Burma Love in Mission is my favorite but this location is great as well! You may have to wait, but it's worth it. Tea leaf salad and mint chicken are our favorites - try them both!

This unassuming little place is a do-not-miss when in San Francisco. If you’re like me, the idea of a salad being the signature menu item is a bit off-putting. Forget all of those preconceptions. This salad is more than enough to fill you up and is unlike anything you’ve ever tasted. Simply incredible and obvious why it has been featured on national food prgrams. I also had they Samosa soup, which was another amazing menu item. So flavorful with fried falafel and veggies in a creamy, tangy broth. 2 for 2? Yep. Both items I ordered were winners. As I glanced around the restaurant, I saw many other dishes that I wish I could try. The smells and sights were a sensory overload! Service is quick, prices are right, and I will be back to try other menu items at this incredible restaurant!

This Burmanian restaurant is one the best places in San Francisco. Food is simply delicious! A highly recommended place.

I’ve never had Burmese food before, the tastes are similar to the surrounding countries but also very unique. Like everyone has said, try the tea leaf salad. I’m not a big salad girl but there’s so many different flavors and textures it’s incredible. I had the Burmese style curry with lamb and was blown away. My bf had the spicy and crispy chicken and it was amazing. Tastes like a 1000 times better version of general tsao’s with more complex flavors. Seriously this place lives up to the hype.

In the past decade I have probably taken 60-70 people visiting me here for lunch. I did it again today. And there has never been a single person, NOT ONE, who didn’t tell me how much they loved the place. Food is great, prices are great (especially for SF) and service is good. And if you go for lunch no wait.

The fragrance of the food wafts by, and I salivate. Every dish we’ve ordered has been so wonderfully flavorful and satisfying. The salads are amazing. Enjoy!

The food was delicious. The portions were large. There are lots of gluten free options on the menu, and the restaurant also accommodated other allergies. We had the chicken with basil, the pork with pumpkin curry, and the coconut rice. Yummy!

First time trying this place out after hearing the rave reviews. The reviews were right! What an amazing unique delicious experience. From the appetizers to the coconut rice to the mango chicken. Just fantastic flavors. The appetizer Platha and Dip is a must have!

This isn't first time having Bermies fair we got 4 different dishes and ate family style. We had the chicken noodle soup it was very homey and delightful, then we had the basil chicken it was a favorite of the group, the there was chili lamb dish it was very good and also and a crowd pleaser, finally there's the curry chicken noodle dish ( not even gonna attempt the actual name) also very nice.

Wow the good here is fantastic, four of us had a range of curry/noodle dishes and we all thoroughly enjoyed them. Great staff, buzzing atmosphere- just fab!

Popular, cozy Burmese restaurant with classic dishes. Came here with my boyfriend for a late lunch and we were excited to try this place since there aren’t a ton of Burmese restaurants in easy access in LA. We ordered the Plathq & dip and split a large a Oh No Kauwser (coconut chicken curry soup) between the two of us. The plates and dip came in 6 pieces and the curry sauce was delicious. The coconut soup had cilantro, onions, egg slices, and crunchies on the side so you can customize it. The broth was thick and hearty; it was a good meal for warming ourselves up after visiting the Golden Gate Park. There is indoor and outdoor dining. There is one single occupant restroom available. Our waitress was sunshine in human form and was so sweet. It’s a popular place for both locals and tourists.

this place is really amazing. The food is incredible and the service staff are always smiling and friendly. We loved the rainbow salad and basil chicken and of course a curry dish. treat yourself to the mango mojito! there were alot of people waiting to be seated but if you tell them you dont mind sharing a table, you may get in way faster!

Every dish we've enjoyed here has been wonderful, so tasty, fragrant and delicious. The tea leaf salad is sublime, so deep and so brightly fresh. Service is helpful and warm, nice setting too. Enjoy!

Broccoli!!!! Was so yummy. Great food for our whole family. Chicken, fish, vegetarian! Well worth the wait.

Excellent food, if you want something different and delicious, do not stop coming. The best of the area, delicious!!!!!!!!!

We got there 15 minutes before they opened, got a great table right away, and sat down to an awesome lunch. Tea leaf salad, spicy sham noodles, lychee tea and Vietnamese coffee... vegetarian and vegan friendly. Top-notch service.

Unique dining experience for my family and I. Each dish was delicious and waitress was very pleasant and helpful. Would definitely go back whenever we return to the Bay Area!

The service is very sweet, the food is delicious and reasonably priced. What more do you want? Because there can be lines, have an early dinner - get there before they open up and enjoy!

My spouse and I came here to take advantage of their SF Restaurant Week lunch special, which was a bargain at $15.00. We sat in the temporary outdoor section; tables were well-spaced and COVID precautions were taken very seriously. We arrived at opening time, so we did not experience the lines that others have described here. I have no idea what all the hype is about regarding this place. The food was, overall, unexceptional; of course, some dishes were better than others. We started with an order of vegetarian samusas with house special red sauce. The samusas themselves were quite tasty, but not noticeably better than those sold at Trader Joe's. The red sauce was also good. My spouse had a combo of platha and curry and fiery chicken with vegetables and jasmine rice. The platha bread was crisp and delicious, much like Chinese scallion pancake but without the scallions. The dip was not at all appealing. His chicken was much better than my main; the white meat was tender and fairly juicy, and the vegetables and sauce were enjoyable. I had a combination of their "famous" tea leaf salad and garlic chili shrimp with coconut rice. I wasn't impressed with the salad, which was mediocre as well as a bit soggy. I didn't like the shrimp entree at all. The flavors in the sauce were off-putting, and the dish was not very exciting overall. Service was pleasant and the restaurant was very popular, but I guess it just wasn't my cup (or salad) of tea.

We had to wait for 10 min as the place was pretty crowded. Loved the tea leaves salad, and chicken biryani. Didn't have to wait for food long, after we placed the order. Courteous and efficient staff.

Last meal for us in San Fransisco after a week full of gluttony. Recommendation from a friend and a intriguing menu with significant vegetarian options were all the incentives we needed to land up at the Burma Superstar on Clement Street. We called in early to put our name on the waitlist (2 hours). A critical requirement on a Saturday evening. Reached at 9 pm and still had to wait for ~30 mins also cos we were a large party of 7 and people on Table 34 just refused to get up even after finishing their food. Anyways, the hostess kindly squeezed us in into a table of 6 and we were grateful given the strong, cold SF winds blowing on the streets outside. First up was the Vegetarian Samusa Soup. We ordered it more out of curiosity as we hadn’t ever heard of a Samosa in a soup. Warm and very soupy with pieces of veg samosas and falafels thrown in. Delicious!! Gotta get the recipe cos wife can’t argue with the health benefits of a soup!! The Mango salad was a safe option and went further by being a notch or two better than safe. The Lettuce Cups were just as good as one has had anywhere else. The Plathas were a bit of a dampener (being used to the similar roti canai variation) as they were quite oily. We are half full before main course thanks to the Sumptuous Samusa Soup. Still the Fiery Vegetables with Tofu which they made it in a not so fiery style given we had kids in the party. Went very well with the Tan Poi - rice with cardamoms, raisins, etc. The Vegetable Curry Delux was more like a potato subzi with lots of ras (liquidy gravy sort of thing) and was probably the only dish we didn’t finish. The great food was only surpassed by the staff’s ever smiling and super helpful attitude (even after 5 hours of super hectic service). A total superstar!!

Went there with the whole family on the weekend and we had a great time. The food and service were amazing. They were very considerate regarding food allergies. Highly recommend.

We recently had lunch at Burma Superstar with family who live in San Francisco and who'd been many times before and wanted to take us. We arrived early (as you must) and were fortunate enough to get in, in the first sitting and didn't have to wait in the street long before opening. We hadn't tried Burmese food before and found it absolutely tasty and flavoursome. Like others, the tea leaf salad is a must. Very good service too.

This place is so damn good! The garlic noodles, the tea salad, the samosa soup. There is nothing on this menu that isn't good. The flavors are rich and satisfying and the service is fantastic. I CRAVE this place.

This restaurant is really popular so we wanted to try it. It was delicious!! The tealeaf salad was amazing -really interesting combination of foods but delicious. The aubergine (eggplant) dish was also delicious. The mango cocktail is great but it is pure mango so it is very filling! We had to wait a little bit (25 minutes) for a table and we went at 6.30 pm - the queue is always very long!

Never having experienced Burmese food, was unsure what to expect. If you like other asian cuisines, you will like this too. We has the samosa soup followed by a pork belly and onion dish that had a really nice spice/heat level and a lamb dish with tomatoes also a bit spicy. Rice is extra but worth it to soak up the tasty sauces. Always busy and no reservations taken. They to take names and text you when a table is free. Stroll the neighborhood and visit the chinese markets while waiting. Well worth visiting this restaurant for a unique twist on Asian food.

Amazing food, super friendly service and affordable prices! The 45min wait outside was totally worth it. We tried the chicken samosas, lettuce pork wrap, green tea leaf salad and spicy shrimp with coconut rice - all delicious and full of flavors! Keep in mind that the portions are pretty generous.

We ended up at Burma Superstar because we couldn't find parking anywhere near our intended dim sum place. But we were glad: the tea leaf salad was tasty and crunchy, and both the other dishes we shared were fresh, tangy and wonderful. Our waiter was very attentive. On a rainy Sunday, the line/wait was 30-minutes for an outdoor table, 45-minutes for an indoor table. We ended up indoors and the wait was worth every minute.

This hidden gem in the Clement shopping district served up a variety of strange and enchanting dishes. Very professional and helpful staff.

This place is so good there are typically 1 hour wait lines. We were fortunate to not have to wait at all on this weekday at noon! The dish we had was delicious and the place was very active and fun! I can't wait to check out their other locations!!

In a city full of wonderful restaurants, this one stood out. There was nothing special about the location or décor, but the atmosphere was friendly, and the food was perfectly prepared. It was my first experience with Burmese food and a wonderful introduction. I look forward to returning on my next trip to San Francisco.

The Laksa was sadly lacking in "oomph" and the goreng was uninspiring and greasy. It used to be an explosion of hot deliciousness. The saddest thing is the boiled white rice which does not appear to be of the same standard as before. If I had had to wait I would have been disappointed. But in this case it was just a perfectly adequate Malay resturant with a superb but outdated reputation.

All the dishes we tried were delicious with very unique flavors. The ambiance is very friendly and service is swift - maybe a bit too quick! Prices are a bit high but the food is so delicious that it makes it worthwhile.

We are incredibly lucky that Burma Superstar is right down the street. On occasion we do eat in the restaurant but for the most part it's one of our go to take out places. We usually get the vegetarian Tea Leaf Salad (without the dried shrimp), the Pumpkin Pork Stew, Shan Noodles and Jasmine rice. All are extremely flavorful. Yes, it's a bit pricey for take-out in the area, but the consistent quality keeps us coming back. There are other Burmese restaurants nearby that we do enjoy, but for different dishes. If you are eating in the red you can call ahead and put your name on the waitlist.

Ate here on recent trip to San Francisco on recommendation from neighbour who previously lived in San Francisco. As others have stated, they do not take bookings but there is a seat outside and lovely tea on tap..with tiny cups - charming. After a long wait, we were welcomed into the warmth. tbh, we had not noticed their signature salad - the waitress told us about it and we went for it - it was fantastic. Btw, there is no dressing on this salad, it is merely the lemon juice bringing it all together. we also had the sticky fingers - such quality of pork and decent portion size. we had the spicy chicken and also the prawns and fried rice - it was so filling, there was no room for dessert - it was by far the best dining experience in 1 week of eating out in San Francisco

So thankful to go with friends/family that had been here before. Nearly impossible to narrow down the menu. Everything ordered was unique and delicious.

This place is the true San Francisco experience!! I recommend the tea leaf salad, nan gyi dok, chicken dahl, and black rice pudding!! I’m seriously considering coming back to San Fran just to go to this restaurant again!!

Stopped here for lunch. Place was packed. Starters were delicious. I ordered brown rice and lamb. Good service

I'd eat here anytime I wanted a neighbourhood place with great curries and creative Asian noodle dishes. I'd go here with friends, family, or someone with whom you have had a long term relationship. It's not a place to impress someone on a first date.

This place is perfect! Not best for those that like to live the high life of fancy places but if your into food it rocks! Everything we tried was delicious and I can't wait to go back again!! Great for lunch or dinner.

We went to this restaurant recommended for a friend. It was the friend's birthday. The food was amazing! Fresh and flavorful. The Tea Leaf salad had so many delicious things in it. The Tower of Tofu was great. We eat a lot of vegetarian items , and it is hard to find tofu done this well... crispy on the outside without bein tough and warm and creamy on the inside. The very friendly and helpful staff presented our friend with a double serving of coconut ice cream(best I have ever had!) with a candle and sang happy birthday. Overall a wonderful experience!

Never tried Burmese cuisine. The flavors were geographical in that it’s a blend of flavors that you would find in close by country’s cuisines. And this melange was a huge success for my wife and I. Couldn’t have enjoyed it more. The sever made suggestions for ordering and they were spot on. Very friendly and efficient service. The restaurant is small and crowded but that didn’t take away any anything from the experience. They also had an innovative and successful way of seating as they do not take reservations. They have a phone based wait list that tells you when to come to the restaurant. When we added our name there was up to a 90 minute wait. By the time they said come we did and didn’t wait 5 minutes to be seated. Great.

I had never tasted Burmese food before and had been told great things so I already went in with high expectations and Burma Superstar definitely exceeded all of them. My three friends and I ordered: A half pitcher of Mango Mule (made with Soju) to share Tea Leaf Salad Samusa Soup Chili Lamb Chicken with Fresh Basil Coconut Rice Fresh fruit platha and black rice pudding for dessert The tea leaf salad, soup, lamb and mango mule were my favorites (which were most of the dishes we ordered I know, but they really were amazing!). The rest of the food was also delicious, just goes to show... We waited 45 mins for our table but in that time just walked up a couple blocks to discover an interesting neighborhood, bought some interesting Chinese desserts and sat at a bar until they texted us. Our servers were very friendly and helpful as we were trying to determine how much food to order and the service was very fast. The restaurant itself is small-ish but I think that just adds to the whole experience, we also got a table right by the window and it was lovely. As an Indian who is used to quite varied and complex food I feel like coming across something quite new and different is not common, but the food here was complex and unique and I loved my first taste of Burmese food. I also don't generally like waiting in line for food, but very glad I made an exception as this was absolutely worth the wait! All in all, a perfect experience, and I am very sad there isn't a Burma Superstar in Montreal.

Excellent service, they explained the different options to try as a newbie to Burmese food. Definitely try out the Tea Leaf Salad, Palatha Curry and Ginger Lemonade.

This was my second visit to Burma Superstar. The food and service was excellent both times! The only drawback is the wait...plan on 45-60 minutes. My favorite dishes are the Yellow Tofu, Vegetarian Samusa Soup, Chili Lamb and the Coconut Rice. The Sesame Tofu is awesome too. I wish this restaurant would franchise and come to my hometown!

There was a line of people outside, so we were glad we made a reservation. The server was extremely friendly and attentive. We ordered the calamari, lamb curry, superstar shrimp, chili lamb, and a side of jasmine rice. Everything was very good. A minor comment, I thought the lamb curry could have been a little spicier. For San Francisco, I think the prices here are on the reasonable side. Nice restaurant; we will go back.

Went on the off chance we could get a table on a tuesday night .no 30 mins wait .but it was worth it .staff are like whirl winds food bought really quickly and it tastes lovely .lots of subtle tastes and flavours well worth a visit

Great service, and robust/unique flavor combinations that never disappoint. Don't be intimidated by the menu/cuisine - you'll be happy you gave it a chance. Atmosphere: Parking is always an issue in SF, but if you circle around the neighborhood a couple of times you'll eventually find an available spot on the street. Tip for parties of 2 or more: Drop off most of your party at the restaurant while you search for parking - there is almost always a wait. The only caveat is, if your table is ready before your whole party is present, they won't seat you and may give your table away if another party of the same size is complete. The restaurant itself is small & they do a good job of turning over tables quickly without making guests feel rushed. The ambiance is laid-back with a lot of wood features incorporated into a more contemporary style. Service: The service is very good. Servers/bussers are attentive and always willing to provide guidance on a foreign (to some) menu. Food: To die for. The first time I went I had no idea what to order. I'd never had Burmese food and didn't know what to expect. I told the waiter my food preferences and allergy limitations (seafood/fish) and he brought out 3-4 dishes for us to try. Everything was amazing. I'd never tasted such unique flavor combinations with such depth before & was beyond impressed. On my most recent visit here, I brought my sister who is a VERY picky/basic eater (think pancakes, pasta w/ butter sauce & chicken fingers). Upon looking at the menu she wasn't sure there would be anything she'd like, however, she tasted a little bit of everything we ordered and loved it all. I'd highly recommend the: Burmese Samusas, Tom Kha Soup (the best I've ever had), Nan Gyi Dok (Mild coconut chicken/ rice noodle curry), Coconut Rice and Tea Leaf Salad.

An hour wait at 8pm on a Friday night, but it was totally worth it! We had the tea leaf salad, chili lamb and vegetable curry. It was yummy and we will definitely go back!

Great food. Great service. Definitely worth a visit. Don't miss out on going to dinner here. Very very good!

This place is so good! Especially the garlic noodles. The flavors are rich and satisfying and the service is amazing. I loved this place.

My husband and I ate here this evening, and are wondering what all the fuss is about?! We live near Seattle, so are perhaps spoiled, but we just were not bowled over with the cuisine here. The soup we started off with WAS delicious, but neither the Sesame Beef nor the Red Curry Eggplant was exceptional. They were quite good together, but nothing spectacular. Also, we have found it difficult to believe that restaurants here feel the need to charge $3 for two small scoops of rice! Again, being spoiled in Seattle where rice is generally included with your entree. Anyway, we were fortunate not to have to wait in a long line (and frankly I would not advise it), and the wait staff was friendly and attentive. I would not particularly recommend this place.

I tried different items, including appetizers and a chicken curry entrée. I was hungry and managed to eat everything I ordered. Good food. A variety of flavors. Service was pretty good. Prices reasonable. An enjoyable meal.

Everyone in San Francisco raves about this restaurant, so my wife and I went to check it out. Overall, we were underwhelmed. We are adventurous eaters and enjoy going out to eat and even make at home all types of cuisines. After 1.5 hours of waiting outside, we were immediately warmed up by the atmosphere inside - loud, packed tables, and steaming plates of food whizzing by in waiters hands. To start, we ordered the dishes that came recommended to us by a friend. The tea leaf salad was potent and not very approachable. We weren't expecting for this dish to be difficult to eat. As another starter we got the Samusa soup, which was the highlight of our meal - the soup was chunky and full of flavor. We would get the soup again in a heartbeat. For our main dishes, we asked the waitress for her recommendations on noodle dishes. I got a the garlic and chili shrimp and it was average. It was a bit spicy, but I enjoyed the heat. My wife ordered the Nan Gyi Dok, and also found it to be about average. If you don't mind the long wait times for a loud drinking atmosphere and average food, then this is your place. We have since shared out experience with other friends in SF and have heard that there are other Burmese restaurants in the neighborhood with no wait and better food. We will try those next before going back to Burma Superstar.

We were staying in an rental nearby and asked for suggestions on dinner, and was given Burma Superstar as the recommendation. Upon reading the reviews on here (tripadvisor) noticed that this place is VERY popular, bringing a wait every night of the week and does not take reservations. Visiting on a Wednesday night we weren't sure what to expect so had a backup restaurant (in the same block) in case the wait was longer then 30 minutes. We walked up to the restaurant host around 7:30 pm and heard the host speaking to someone on the phone telling them it would be an hour wait for 5 people, so we weren't hopeful, there were 2 other couples also waiting (we were party of 4 adults). To our surprise when we said 4, he said we can seat you right now! Great!! The restaurant is very small, tables are very tight together and was packed, along with the noise level being lively. The service is friendly and fast (seemed to want to turn tables over as quickly as possible). There was a steady line and turn over of tables the entire hour+ we were there. Asking the server for recommendations was very helpful and rice is a must (the server suggested as well). We ordered a few drinks and a tea leaf salad (which many reviews rave about), it was very good and different, mixed table side by a server. Refreshing while being a bit nutty but would deff have again! For the table we ordered a shrimp dish, salmon dish, and beef dish. Easy to share plates here and rice for the sauces. Found most dishes to be spicy although the servers asked in the beginning what our preferred spice level was. We would come back here again if we were in the area although not sure we would go out of our way to go as it was a little hectic / busy for our liking.

My husband and I visited San Francisco for a couple nights and saw that this restaurant was a ‘must visit’ place and we are so happy we did! The food was amazing and service was excellent. We highly recommend the Chili Lamb, so so good!

Waitress suggested what to order and did not disappoint. Must try the green tea leaf salad and samosas. Beautiful food & great service

This was my 1st time trying out Burmese dishes. Highly recommend by my friend. It a cute small place. I absolutely love it. We tried the tea leaf salad and Nan Pai Dok.

The food is great. The atmosphere is lively (if you're hard of hearing maybe too much so). The menu includes foods you'd find at the best restaurants in Yangon, not street faire. Take my friends there all the time.

Wow, what a great experience. Many locals in the Richmond District have recommended this restaurant. Our meal started with a Tea Leaf salad that was big enough to share. It had a very interesting combination of ingredients with a yummy dressing. We also shared a Curry Chicken dish that was made with a flat noodle. This dish can also be ordered with Tofu. The portions are large so make sure you share unless you have a large appetite. We didn't want to wait the 30 minutes for a table so we decided to sit at the bar. The waiter gave us great tips on what to order. The prices were very reasonable and parking was easy to find. If you have never tried Burmese food this is an excellent place to start your adventure.

Burma Superstar is packed with diners, the restaurant does not take reservations, we called and were put on a waiting list... the place deserves its popularity. Tasty unique dishes full of flavor and spice. The samosa soup was our favorite. It is Asian comfort food and it's perfect to beat a cold January night. Arrive early or be ready to queue. It's worth it.

My wife and I loved almost everything about the restaurant. Sure, it was cramped, and unless you showed up before the 17:00 opening time, you were destined to wait outside for a bit, but aside from that, it's great. The food was delicious. The tea leaf salad was a feast for the eyes (as they prepared it in front of you) and the mouth. Staff were friendly, and did not make us feel rushed, even when there was a queue of people waiting outside "yes, it's busy, but you take as long as you like", they said, and sounded like they meant it. Also, they were helpful. At one waitress's urging, we got the staff favourite Pork Curry with Potatoes, and it was so good we had it again on our next 2 visits (all this between Sunday and Thursday). The Garlic and Chili Shrimp was also excellent - large, well-prepared shrimp, and tonnes of garlic flavour. Everything I've mentioned up till now is gluten- and dairy-free, but for the gluten-eaters among you, the Platha and Dip is a treat. Who doesn't like fried bread? And the sauce is so tasty and is even friendly to those with restricted diets: my wife happily stole some for her rice! We'll return every time we're in the SF area.

Went back for our 10th anniversary. Thai ice tea, salad and mains were great just as we remembered during our last visit.

An excellent experience. Our server, Aung, provided an enthusiastic welcome and guided us through the extensive menu. The tea leaf salad was tossed tableside, an unexpected service. Highly recommended!

Love Burma Superstar. I always go there once or twice while in San Francisco. Their Chili Lamb is out of this world delicious but a bit spicy which I like. The tea salad is a must to try. The staff is hard working and alway so polite. Go early when they open or you will have to wait in line.

Long waits not worthy. Serving all dishes at the same time. Every thing got cold. We’ve been before at this restaurant. But this time they made us wait for 90 minutes in the cold -below 60-, just to tell us that they were closing the kitchen. After we complain, they decided to prepare our dishes and sat us out side with no heater on. They served all dishes -six in total- at the same time and every thing got cold within minutes. We told them to hold on some of the dishes but they insisted that now the kitchen was closed. We ate as fast as posible to prevent eating cold food. In 15 minutes we were done and mad. We recommend not to go if you are going to be treated as we were.

Absolutely delicious, dynamic and unique. A must try. Get in line and be patient or have an early lunch then show up when it opens!

YUM, absolutely loved it! Wish I didn't live 600 miles away, I'd eat there once a week! The tea leaf salad, the prawns in garlic sauce, to die for. Also so lovely inside, all wood. Made me feel like I was in a boat being transported to a magic land far from home. Looking forward to trying more dishes!

Loved the food, drinks, ambiance and service here. The curries and salads are unique and tasty. We had a reservation and didn’t have to wait for a table.

Always a good sign ... people queuing for a table. Once booked in on the system we didn’t have long to wait ... sat on the bench outside with the heater on. They seem to specialise in a quick turnaround of tables which is fine on most occasions... not if you want to take your time. However the food is lovely ... we shared a couple of starters Platha and dip along with the legendary Tea Salad. Mixed at the table after the ingredients are explained to you. I then had Spicy and crispy chicken with coconut rice... yum yum... my fellow diners had Fiery chicken and Shrimp curry.
Long wait, but well worth it!
You cannot book, so be prepared to wait for up to an hour for a table at a busy time. However, don't let that put you off! We sat down straight away at the sister restaurant just up the road, although we joined the queue at the more famous one as soon as we realised our mistake. And once you give your name, be alert! We were standing chatting for quite a while after they called our name, although when we realised our mistake they quickly fitted us in to an inside table (there are outside tables on the street, too). The Burmese food is excellent, and unlike anything else I have tasted - a fusion between Thai and Indian, with it's own unique twist. It's an informal place, buzzing with energy and with a strong, pleasant spice-filled aroma hanging in the air. Check it out, if you get half a chance!
