Loved this place - best hamburger ever - perfectly seasoned and great selection of toppings. Homemade pickles - nothing better!!!

Had heard great things about this place and been meaning to try. Met and surpassed all my expectations for quality of the meat, fixings, and preparation of their burgers. I had the Chicago blend spice recipe, and it was excellent. I like that they give you several different ways to spice the meat, and will try one of the other ones next time. Price for quality of the burgers is more than fair, but be warned, if you try the bison burger it will Be pricier at over $15. Thoroughly enjoyed BYOB, and I brought a little cooler with beer for my son and me. Definitely worth the trip to Lincoln Park to try this place.

I had the kid size burger with melted goat cheese and it was the best burger I have ever had in my life! I chose the regular split top bun and no other toppings were needed. The fries were excellent too. Great place!

I read about this restaurant a few months before actually going there and I was already impressed by the reviews, pictures and menu. Needless to say, expectations were high! Although very small and with limited seating, I can honestly say that they delivered one of the best burgers I have ever eaten. They really know burgers, meat and the simple art of an amazing burger. This is the only burger place I have seen where you can actually choose the marinade, rub, meat cut and meat type of the burger and the cheese selection is vast. The bun selection and fries are also impressive, as well as the salads. Not stuffy and a true gourmet burger, my niece and nephew still rant about the place! My expectations were high, and they delivered on every level! The only downfall is the limited seating, with only about 5 tables, the place can seat 15-20 people at a time. Be prepared to wait..but it's worth it!

Worth the train ride to enjoy one of the juiciest burgers ever. Fresh ingredients, friendly staff without the downtown crowd. Owner made it a point to come over and introduce himself and to ensure we were enjoying our experience. I will make it a point to visit again the next time I'm in Chicago.

After lunch at Butcher & The Burger this past weekend, I have 4 options: 1. Figure out how to mainline that badboy blue cheese with Chicago seasoning 2. Franchise a store in my basement, invitation only 3. Start a Butcher & The Burger Anonymous and live day to day until the next time 4. Find something better - NOT. Lots of outstanding burger places around the country (Thrillist does a nice job featuring lots of places in lots of cities)....however, this is the only place that will make you cry and laugh and drool and shamelessly steal food off your neighbors' plates.

Small and cozy restaurant near De Paul. Reminiscent of a lot of other chic gourmet burger bars you see popping up everywhere. It was tasty but it didn't stand out from other places I've tried in the Chicago area.

This build your own burger place was worth the trip from downtown. I imagine this place may not be much fun when it's crowded because it's so small, but we went there before 7:00 on a weekday and found plenty of seating. There are many possible tasty burgers (several kinds of beef, bison, veggie, turkey, etc. ) with a wide range of spice and topping combos. The choices are potentially overwhelming, but the guy behind the counter was very helpful. After your burger, make the trip a few blocks away to Sweet Mandy B's for cupcakes!

After googling "best burgers in Chicago", we came up with Butcher & The Burger. It is about a $10 cab ride from downtown and though I can't say if it is the BEST burger in Chicago (because I haven't tried them all), I can say it is a mighty fine burger in it's own right. The concept is build your own burger - choose your meat, choose your bun, choose what ingredients you want to add etc. As a visitor to the US, there were some ingredients I was unsure of, so I took the recommendations from the server. He was very helpful and very knowledgable. They do not have a liquor license, but you can BYO and there is a liquor store virtually next door - though you can't eat outside if you have alcohol.

Their burgers are so good, I can't wait to go back for more. I also loved their fries with truffle mayo.

Seeking for the best burger in Chicago is an adventure. After reading a lot of reviews we went to try the Butcher and the Burger. The place does not accept reservations but they are very fast. Once you entered the store the kind host explained to me the philosophy in the menu and the thinking on ordering. You can have a tailor made burger, or,choose one of the favorites. All American classic is,a superb choice. Highly recommended for burger lovers

Granted, I'm not the burger expert, I'm no connoisseur, and I haven't been to the most cities in the world, but I do know that I'm not the kind of person that will eat twice at the same restaurant whenever I visit a new city, but Butcher & the Burger is one of the only times I have ever broken that rule (the only other time: the Dutch in NYC for oysters). So it must've been a good burger. The place is a small, hipster neighborhood burger bar. It's BYOB, burgers can be pricy but I was on vacation so I didn't really care, and it was the first time I've ever seen a burger place have so many options for different combinations of burgers. You choose your bun, your seasonings, your toppings, sauces, etc. They have many options for burger patties too including black bean, fish, turkey and grass-fed beef (which is amazing). It's messy (as a burger should be), delicious, and my incredibly healthy low-calorie diet friend saw my fries and couldn't help but order some. This isn't a date night kind of place, I wouldn't go with a large group, but if you want to get lunch and catch up with a friend or two or if you just don't feel like cooking after work and need a quick bite to eat, this is your place and you'll be guaranteed an amazing burger.

While not in the Loop this place is nicely located off the Brown Line Armitage stop. It's a bit small but a cute place. The burgers options are very good. I picked the salmon patty with a lettuce wrap. It was fantastic! Our server recommended the wasabi mayo which was great too. Also, the staff is great -where else will someone point out to you that the potato fries are made in lard without asking for it? I was pretty impressed. Btw they do have all vegan fries too :) Nice place, great food, great service....Pity I was too stuffed to sample their custards. I really liked this place and will definitely go back and try out different offerings.

This little spot is quaint, BYOB and singlemindedly focused on burgers as it's name implies. While prices are not cheap a single burger and fries made a generous lunch for 2 adults, so unless you are a lumberjack I would recommend sharing. We had a grass fed beef burger and it was excellent. Not fussy in any way, with appropriate dressing of good pickles, bun etc. fries were hand cut. It seems the fries were fried in some type of animal fat as there was a warning to vegans. But let's be fair anyone who has has duck fat fries would never knowingly go back to crisco...... Opening hours are generous and continuous. We has a late lunch on the side patio free from crowds. Will definitely go back. For tourists this place is accessible by public transportation ( the El).

Let me start by saying I've not had a burger this well executed in probably a decade! Let's start with a few quirks, the place is small, with limited seating and the service is good, not great. These minor details are easily obliterated by how well they do what they do. The menu is mainly burgers and they do them extraordinarily well. You start by choosing your meat, then the seasonings, then toppings. Let's be clear here, although there are choices and some of them are interesting, you're not going to find any contrived mango and peach salsa burgers or other chic, stylish stuff, but you will find things that are interesting and really make sense on a burger like bacon, a fried egg, even seared foie gras. You also need to chose your condiments and type of bun. Although the focus is on the burger, I shared an order of fries with the person I dined with and I have to say, they knocked it out of the park on those too. They were hand cut, real potatoes, but not done in that, floppy, greasy style. These were thick cut, tender and crispy on the outside, with just enough salt to accent the taste. The burger was cooked to perfection for me (medium well, medium rare for my friend). It was juicy enough to drip, but not greasy. I generally tend to use a knife and fork for dining in most situations, but this called for me to dive in and get my hands dirty :) I chose the beef burger, with "grandma's onion soup" seasoning, and blue cheese. The burger was seared crisp on the outside, perfectly tender and yielding on the inside and the flavor was excellent. The prices were reasonable and the food was served pretty quickly. The restaurant is in a nice neighborhood, and not far from the "L", easy to find and get to. Definitely recommended, one the best meals in recent memory and definitely the best burger in a decade for me. You will not regret a trip there. Check out the menu in advance so you can compose your dream burger before you get there.

Had to try this place since I heard you could build you own burger. The burger was pretty good. There are lots of options. I asked the cashier for his recommendations and went with most what he suggested. They have great options for vegans. The small frie is anything but small, so beware. They also have Mexican Coke, which is just coke made with sugar cane instead of high frutoce corn syrup. My mom intially didn't want any because she didn't know what is was, but after trying mine loved it. It was really sweet compared to the coke I normally have. The best part of the visit was the Beignets. I had it with cinnamon! YUMMM! I live in New Orleans, and I have had Beignets many times, but never with cinnamon. Very good!

Butcher & The Burger is a neat little restaurant in Lincoln Park. I visited around 8:00 on a Friday night, and even though it was a pretty small dining room, we were lucky enough to find a place to sit. I ordered a turkey burger with swiss and avocado. I wish I had been a little hungrier, because it was delicious but I wasn't able to finish it. If I hadn't ordered fries, it would have been no problem. The fries were excellent, though. We weren't able to stay for any length of time after eating, as there were people waiting for tables. That would be the only minor gripe, but it really wasn't a big deal. I would return. Next time, I'd love to try one of their seasoning blends on the burger. I just got salt and pepper this time, but several others sounded delish. Also, it's BYOB, so remember to come prepared!

On the quest for Chicago's best burger and this place is definitely making a run for the crown. Maybe it was my hunger and the fact I'd been walking around all morning, but after that first bite of burger I was blown away. The burger is the choose your own adventure variety. Pick the protein type, the rub, the cheese, the bun, and all the toppings. The standard ones are free, but the "premium" toppings will add a bit extra. I chose the regular beef burger with the ghost pepper blend and all standard toppings (no premium) and with a MexiCoke the total was under $15. Seems a bit pricey, but not that different from other premium type of burgers. The ghost rub was the perfect amount of kick for me. I didn't think it was "spicy" though I have a high tolerance, but it was just enough to add a bit of oompf to the burger. The burger was cooked perfectly to my liking (mid-rare) and they have the charred taste and feel of backyard burgers right off the grill. So no, you're not getting one of those pretentious burgers per se, but a real down to Earth burger. I was disappointed I didn't try the fries, but I definitely am looking forward to going back again. Now I have an excuse to try the fries and perhaps add some accoutrement off the premium toppings. The place is kinda small. There aren't a whole lot of tables, but there is a long counter with stools. I came in on Friday at/around 13:00 and it was busy, though two large groups seemed to enter literally right before me. Still, I did get the window seat!

Me and my gal stopped in for lunch and we were very happy with the service and the food. It will be a must the next time we are in Chicago.

Let me get the bad thing out of the way - parking stinks! But, it is worth it to try and find a spot. And certainly if you are within walking distance in the neighborhood or getting off of the train on the Purple Line at Armitage Ave. What this restaurant lacks in seating, it makes up for in the quality of food. I tried a house blend beef burger with cheddar cheese and added carmelized onions in addition to some of the usual condiments. I chose the kid's size and I was not disappointed in either the size or in the way that it was done (medium rare). Very, very tasty and just the right amount of food. We also got a regular sized grass fed burger (also medium rare) and it was just as good. The burgers are juicy, but not greasy. We tried the cole slaw and the homemade potato chips. There is enough assortment that everyone in your group should be happy.

The burgers here are amazing. I would suggest going with a few people and planning on sharing at least a bite to sample the menu! It's BYOB, so grab some beers before you head over. This place is down the street from my apartment and I plan on going many more times this summer!

This place probably has one of the best burgers that I have ever had. The flexibility of picking your type of meat, spices, bread and toppings give you endless possibilities. I tried the grain fed beef and the asian spices with caramelized onions ... Off the hook. Fantastic casual burger spot.

We've been meaning to visit this restaurant for a while now and finally got to eat there. It was definitely worth the visit. It's not a very large place, seating perhaps 20 or so and while they have sides, salads (even Beignets and Café De Monde Chicory Coffee), it's their Burgers that people come for. It's one of the places that allows a customer to custom build their burger, selecting the type of meat/protein, their bun and a great selection of toppings. And the burgers are really good--even great! And so too were their fries (not to be missed). Their staff is attentive and make it a point that everything must be satisfactory--or they'll make so. Only street parking is available, so that can present a challenge but it's certainly worth going to a little extra effort to visit. And apparently I'm not alone in that feeling--they won last year's Roscoe Village Burger Fest contest--coming in at First Place!

We visited here since we saw great reviews on trip advisor. Burgers made to order with great toppings. I had the grass fed and my boyfriend had the bison. We ordered them cooked medium both were medium rare at best. Taste was great and service was quick. Beware it is BYOB which we didn't know but that was ok.

I love this place. Seriously. One of the the best burgers I've had in Chicago (or anywhere else, for that matter). Butcher and The Burger is an outstanding little restaurant. The menu, while not expansive, offers a terrific set of options to create a really delicious burger with interesting side dishes. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, although seating is limited (particularly in winter when outdoor dining isn't feasible). The staff is superb - friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable about the menu. I can't recommend this place highly enough - if you're in Old Town or Lincoln Park, you owe it to yourself to give it a try.

Lots of choices for your burger and it is fabulous! Best burger anywhere.....I drove 100 miles to check out this burger....worth every mile!

This popular restaurant makes all kinds of burgers made to order - a few types of beef, shrimp, salmon, veggie and brown rice, etc. Then you choose your seasonings and toppings- many are unique- and additions like fries, etc. Really tasty. Best to go at off hours, as this place gets really crowded.

Got here around 9pm on a Friday and it was packed (as I expected), but there was no wait. The server behind the counter was great. I appreciate his patience and explanation of the menu because I wasn't too sure how to order, but he made it crystal clear. My order came fast and it was spine tingling good. The bison, the spice blend, the toppings everything. By the time I was done I had ordered an uncooked patty to take home. I will return soon to mix and match another burger. Mmmmm burgers...

Nice little burger shop located a block away from the Armitage stop on the Brown/Purple Line. We actually stopped by this place after a long run so we both had healthy appetites. It was around noon-ish on a weekday and there were only a few other customers inside, but it looked like they were preparing about 2 dozen take out orders, so that seems to be a popular option. They have a TON of customization options so it really is a good opportunity to build your own burger. If you get overwhelmed by the extensive options (like my gf) they have a curated list of favorites that you can select from as well. She got a turkey burger that was prebuilt, I had a bite and was very impressed at how well seasoned it was. I built my own with the house blend, desert chili seasoning, a pretzel bun, and grilled onions and it was fantastic! The meat had a slight char (ordered medium) and was really juicy. All of this was served on small cutting boards branded with the store's name and logo. Overall, great food, good atmosphere, in a good neighborhood. Two burgers with tap water came out to $26. A bit expensive, but we knew what we were getting into. It was a nice treat, but we won't be regulars there.

I'm not a food critic, and I realize taste is subjective, but we really, really liked this place! Based on the recommendation of a cousin, we drove from the south suburbs to Lincoln Park just to try this place (we had a Saturday afternoon with nothing else to do... so why not?). We weren't disappointed. The burger was one of the best I've ever had, and my wife loved hers as well. The fries were really good too. The burger was fresh, and their signature sauce they put on it was awesome. The restaurant itself is small, and it was super busy, so seating can be hard to come by. Definitely hope to come back soon though!

I recommend the James Byrd burger, it's going to make you happy you came there. I'm a fan and can't recommend r enough.

That is the question I asked myself. Do I want a burger? I was in a great city with so many food options, is this really what I wanted? Yes! Best darn burger of my life! I never thought this would have been one of my favorite meals in Chicago. Now I want to go back and eat again and buy one of their awesome coolers!

I saw this place on a show on the travel channel and they made it look totally different than it really is. This is a tiny burger spot with very few places to sit and only about 5 tables. You order at a counter then struggle and fight for a place to sit and eat. It was $50 for two people! We had 2 burgers, fries, 2 sodas and a shake. It all tasted good but not any better than hundreds of other burger spots in Chicago. I felt robbed. The burgers aren't even that big either. We've paid way less for far better at many other places. HUGE disappointment. The tables are very uncomfortable and crowded so close it was awkward.

A bit of a hike if you are staying in the Magnificent Mile area.. but take the train and enjoy the best burger anywhere! Great choices and almost unlimited options. Excellent sides, wonderful staff, and well worth the trouble for a fun lunch.

I had a great bison burger. So many burger places want to heap on the toppings. I like the flavor of the meat. Here they offer spice blends that enhance the flavor of the meat (which despite the rapidly rising number of burger places still is relatively rare). The fries are good too. There they could jazz it up with more sauce options for the fries, but they are good enough to eat without anything on them. I like the environmentally friendly vibe too. The burgers are served on cutting boards and with real knives so no waste there. And they let you drink water without drama! They give you a normal sized cup, have iced water in a container in the back, and they don't act like you are stealing money from them because you like water.

Okay, so I passed on the foie gras. And I was teased a bit (in good nature) by the staff because I only wanted Dijon mustard on my burger, but wow. It was fantastic. There are so many options here..toppings and burgers (salmon, turkey, grassfed, traditional, etc). Don't expect McDonald's pricing, but keep in mind, it is called "Butcher" and Burger not "Butchered" and Burger. Great, great stuff. Fries are crispy and perfect. Homemade potato chips and cole slaw. It just works.

This place has excellent burger with different choice of spices and buns. I really loved the Chicago blend of spices they offer. The place is small but definitely one of my favorite burger in Chicago.

Went adventuring with our college daughter. What a great find! We all had different burgers, and they were all delicious. I'm not typically a burger person, and there wasn't a crumb left of my Haymaker special! Delicious. Fries were tasty, too!

What a great place! Not only are the burgers FANTASTIC! But the people are awesome! We have gone 3 times in the past 12 months. And you would think we have been life long friends. I promise you, you will go back and you will bring friends. We just moved from Chicago and we made sure this was the last place we ate before we left. Always fresh, always great!

My husband and I walked from Downtown Chicago to 'Butcher & the Burger' It was definitely worth the walk! We had a Bison and a Venison burger. GREAT burgers, great selection of meats, breads, toppings, cheeses and seasonings. The staff were very friendly. A funky little restaurant, a great find.

They really take great care of every aspect of the burger with great results. Even the turkey were great, but get the beef. The customer service was sincerely excellent. I have writing this review because it's making me crave one right now. It's a cool place in a great area - strongly recommend it.

Bottom Line: Excellent burgers, service and atmosphere add up to a great experience worth a special trip. Food: They offer a variety of burger options from prime beef to vegan to pork with a long list of options (New Mexico Hatch green chiles would be a stellar addition) to go with it. One kind of neat thing is the various spice rubs you can choose to season your burger. They even ask for temperature preference. I loved the fries, too. Burgers can be a bit messy to eat, but it's a small price to pay. Beverage: Nothing too special. Basic drinks. Service: Stellar. Maybe the man at the counter was an owner, but he was clearly passionate about being a great host and that alone will bring me back for another visit. Decor: Great neighborhood vibe with some vintage posters and furniture. Very clean and well maintained.

Seriously, just go. You will not be disappointed. I wish there were more places like this around where I live.

We like this restaurant because it has s wide variety of burgers, especially veggie & fish. You can get a salmon burger or shrimp burger or brown rice and lentil burger if you don’t eat meat. And since every order is customized, it can taste different every time. It’s a very small restaurant, and it’s often frequented by DePaul students and people living in the neighborhood. Do to avoid having to wait for a table, I recommend going at off hours.

Great neighborhood burger joint. Lots of choices and super neighborhood vibe. Loved it

This is seriously the best burger in Chicago. This is my 10th year living here and tried way too many restaurants in the city. This place has by far the best and neatest burger. You can tell the meat is of excellent quality and the ingredients are fresher than ocean breathe. I go with the grass-fed patty, Chicago style spice, split top pretzel bun, sriracha mayo, lettuce, ketchup, and definitely the chipperbec fries. It never fails me! The salmon burger is also great.

If you're feeling a burger and in the area this is a good place to go. Lots of options for spices and toppings. Definitely price for a takeout burger joint

The menu and style is just awesome - choose your meat, toppings, seasoning, etc... You customize your burger to your style. Recommend the Grass Fed Beef! Also recommend the truffle mayo for the fries - it’s to die for!! The ice cream isn’t too shabby either. Best part... it’s a BYOB!

Amazing all around. Best burger selection anywhere - there is truly something for everyone's taste. All is made fresh and you can taste the quality. This is not your average burger joint. The custard is just WOW! Words fail me. The vanilla is a must have. It is the best I've ever tasted and probably ever will.

we picked the wrong day to visit this place--the air conditioning was out and it had been 90 degrees outside. nevertheless, we'd found a parking spot so we soldiered on. we all tried variations on the house blend burger and we shared a large fries. everything was very good. it's counter service, not table service, which we didn't know going in. the people are very nice. things are a little pricey for counter service (it's build your own burger and items add up fast) but very tasty....but not when you're sweltering. will return in winter time!

Butcher & The Burger was highly recommended on most reviews and seemed to be my kind of place. So we went today for a late lunch and it was even better than I expected. Down to earth, almost homemade food with a twist. Chef Allen was there and was really nice and helpful, though he was obviously busy. We asked for distinct burgers and fries, and everybody said it has been their finest burger ever. Perfect meat, charbroiled. The ever charming Jackson Park neighboorhood is a must. Not to be missed!

We saw an article in a recent food section of Chicago Tribune touting top burgers in Chicago. We were not disappointed. Great service, pleasant casual atmosphere, and most importantly, amazing food. Hamburgers and Bison burgers were the choices in our group. I'm told by friends that shrimp burger is excellent, also. Plenty of toppings, cheeses and bun options. Juicy, hearty and fresh. Six ounce burgers were just the right size, allowing plenty of room for excellent fries, and even frozen custard and beignets. (Sorry for the spilled powdered sugar, boys got a little silly on exit.) Definitely worth a return visit.

Stopper by before Steppenwolf Theatre based on reviews and the fact that they are a BYOB. Immediately greeted by the manager who asked if he could explain th3 menu and answer any questions. Very friendly atmosphere and staff. You get to pick your meat, many options including turkey burgers, lentil burger, shrimp burger, salmon burger and of course red meat options. You pick the spice, the toppings and other sides. We split a french fry between two people and it was plenty. Fries were great. We each had a turkey burger on a pretzel bun with different toppings and cheese (one ghost pepper with goat cheese, the other cajun with Swiss). Would definitely go back here...

We went here because it was one of the places my husband had seen on TV on a show about Chicago Burger Wars. The man working the counter was delightful and helped us choose our burgers. You choose everything from your patty to the spices it's cooked with and the bun it's put on. Very fun. The fries were amazing, and large enough to share. Excellent beef--really tasty. We also liked the presentation on butcher blocks.

My husband, son, and I tried Butcher and the Burger for the first time on a Saturday afternoon in June. This is a small, corner shop with a butcher case that serves a few burgers on the side. The guys ordered the sirloin steak burgers and added fried eggs and other toppings until they were so stacked up I wondered if they could possibly eat them. I ordered the house blend in child's size which was just right for me so I didn't stuff myself. I added Swiss cheese and black truffle aoli which was outstanding. We ordered one large basket of fries which was plenty for the three of us to share. The fresh made lemonade was so good and you get free refills. The burgers were all top notch and we ate everything. If you are craving a burger, this is the place! We ate on the outside patio which is tree covered for shade and is off on the quiet side street. Great place!

Best burger in Chicago. Or one of them... very cozzy place on Armitage Ave, just one block from the L station (Armitage). The burgers and fries are delicius and the patio (6 tables on sidewalk) make a very good option to a lunch or early dinner on a warm day. Kids burger size is avaiable.

This is a fantastic restaurant. I've been there at least 20 times and never had a bad experience. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The food is outstanding, and well worth the price. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming... I just wish there were more indoor tables! I suppose that would detract from the vibe and charm, though. It's absolutely worth a visit if you've not been.

Great decor and atmosphere. Seating is snug- which is my only complaint. Burgers are fresh with a large variety of meats and toppings. Orders are prepared fresh. Presentation on a wood plank. Simple and delicious. Would choose here for a meat based meal over a boring steakhouse/stuffy burger joint.

Love the variety of the menu can customize to your palate's content. Only challenge is seating is tight and not much of it

This is a great little restaurant in Lincoln Park area. It mainly offers a wide variety of burgers (including Bison, Turkey burger, etc.) but I believe there may be other sandwiches on the menu. The All American was great, as was the James Beard burger, their signature burger. Very small place and it's cute but nothing fancy. Great place for burger lovers. Prices are upscale but typical for the area. I would definitely come back. Lots of cute shops around if you want to shop afterwards. Service is good.

While Butcher and the Burger is not my favorite burger joint in the city, I always leave happy and satisfied. Probably the best aspects of the restaurant are not the burgers, but the fries and that it is byob. The truffle mayo is also not to be missed!

Perfect and juicy burgers, either to be chosen from already quite large menu or made to order combining dozen or so of different ingredients and plenty of delicious sauces and spices. Do not miss less than usual shrimp one - both rich and light and excellent with jalapeños and few other spicy additions.

This burger place is unusual and excellent. You order your burger, and they custom make it with the usual garnishments plus special sauces, seasonings, cheeses, and more. The selection of burgers is also unique. For non-carnivores, there is a lentil and brown rice burger. For fish lovers, there are salmon burgers and shrimp burgers. They are very messy to eat but indeed tasty. The French fries are great too. It's a small restaurant, so seating is spare (and hard). And the place is noisy, so don't go with a headache. But we will definitely return to try other menu items.

The burger and french fries I had was worth every calorie. I got to customize my hamburger and it was perfectly cooked to my liking. I savored every single bite. These burgers set a high bar. Unfortunately, I live about 1,000 miles from Chicago so I may never get to have another burger.

Great neighborhood place to have more upscale and delicious burgers. Love the vibe and decor of joint. Friendly service too. Definitely would return. I forgot to take pictures of my burger and potato salad because I was enjoying them and place.

This restaurant has a multitude of different burger options including turkey, salmon, shrimp, and vegan lentil and brown rice. Then choose your seasoning and toppings, and you've built something you should enjoy. Just have plenty of napkins on hand, as this meal is really messy. And come during the week or on off hours, if you can. This place is very popular and gets crowded quite fast. It's not very big. There is limited outdoor seating as well.

Not much of a selection for breakfast. On a Sunday, the city-wide go-out-to-breakfast day, we found most people eating burgers with beer. High chairs, and some are pretty uncomfortable metal. Get your own coffee, and it was not very hot. Don't think about soup for lunch, none on menu. Order at the counter. Just another burger place.

Since I read about this place in Time Out I was very curious to try it. I loved the concept, the decor and of course, the burger. There was a mistake with our order, it took more than 15 minutes, so the owner gave us 2 burgers plus fries for free next time. It's a nice gesture, we appreciate it. The burger was delicious, the meat was super tender and juicy. And the fries are terrific. We also tasted the beignets, they aren't so good as the Cafe du Monde. The others are more crispy and fluffy.

Absolutely love the menu and how you get to pick the meat seasoning the bun and all the toppings absolute fabulous Burger will definitely visit that place again.

Found this spot while walking along Armitage. We enjoyed it, and I appreciated the offering of child sized burgers available topped just like a big burger. The chikd size was still plenty of food, in my opinion. We took the cashier's advice on adding the steak seasoning, and honestly thought it masked the burger flavor too much. Line formed fast, but we were able to sit at the bar along the wall.

WOW what a great selection of different burgers. Pork, Shrimp,Turkey something for everyone . You can choose from a variety of meats/Shrimp with a variety of sauces/spices and breads. Knowledgeable staff very helpful when you have to make your choices. Seating is limited but moves out quickly so if its full when you get there you will have a seat by the time your fresh cooked burger arrives. A large fry order will easily serve four.

Had dinner on a Thursday. The line was more than I expected, but quickly dissipated, and found the bison or beef hamburgers (tried all among the party) were enjoyable, tasty. Also had beignets at the end of the meal, which were very tasty. Would go again!

Awesome! Had lunch there today and everything was excellent. Great selection, friendly staff and the fries were to die for! Can't wait to go back.

Butcher & The Burger is a custom burger joint. They’ve got a wide range of ingredients to choose from, so you could probably go a hundred times and never get the same thing. With places like these, I always say if your food isn’t good it’s probably because you don’t know what to throw on the burger or how to get it cooked. Also, the large fries are very large. It’s more than enough for two people and could probably be good for 3-4.

This is a small neighborhood restaurant where the food is excellent. Fresh, homemade, cooked to perfection. No mass produced anything. It takes a few minutes but is really worth the wait. The selection from meats, breads, seasoning, cheese, toppings is the best I have ever seen. You could eat there and have a burger a dozen times and never have the same thing twice. Great tart homemade lemonade, homemade cookies homemade potato salad with I think a touch of pickle juice. Tasty. The French fries are great. Definitely worth the trip. If you are staying downtown public transportation is easy or a cab wouldn't be too expensive. Worth getting away from all the downtown tourist spots.

I indulged when I came here in late March and ordered a burger, small fries, custard shake, and six beignets for myself. The burger was delicious. The shop has a number of different spices that you can have on your burger -- I had an onion-soup-blend spice mix! The burgers are cooked to order and the outside had a nice crunch to it. The burgers, though, are a little overpriced for their size. The burger was not even a half pound of meat, so I downed it in four bites. The fries were average. The cashier said that the small was more than enough for two people but I easily finished it on my own (although I have a large appetite). The fries came with no type of house sauce (from what I recall, the shop has an aioli dip but it costs extra). The custard shake was excellent. The custard was the right consistency and the flavor -- buttermilk -- was rich throughout. It was as if I were drinking liquid butterscotch candies! The beignets are the main reason I gave a 4 rather than a 3. The beignets were just like those that I would have in New Orleans. Five dollars gets you six of them, a steal for Chicago.

Our daughter read about this place online before our last visit to Chicago, so it was the first place we hit when we arrived. It's a little neighborhood place, very friendly, and our burgers were juicy, and loaded with our custom-ordered toppings. What else can you ask for in a burger joint? We will return!

Walked in at 10:45 and was refused service. I was told that they had already closed. If you don't close at 11pm as advertised on a Friday, then you need to update your website.

Here it is, under one roof, a neighborhood burger counter and old-fashioned butcher shop, chef Allen Sternweiler's latest culinary creation. As advertised, it is "like nothing you've ever seen before." Located at 1021 West Armitage Avenue in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, Butcher and the Burger goes a long way in answering the often asked question: "Which restaurant serves the best hamburgers in Chicago?" Burgers are the priority here. But patrons also can enjoy shrimp, fresh salmon, cube steaks, home-made potato chips and frozen custard. And they can take home ground patties, meatballs, house-made meatloaf and marinara sauce. That aside, the primary issue for debate is which burger do you prefer? Grass-fed prime beef burger or sirloin steak burger or House blend prime beef burger? And which toppings? And which bun? Well, I chose the House blend prime beef burger on a whole wheat bun with lettuce, tomato, raw onion, ketchup, yellow mustard, American cheese and Benton's Tennessee Mountain smoked bacon. With potato salad and potato chips. My wife opted for a sirloin steak burger on a croissant with BBQ sauce. We washed it all down with root beer and a chocolate shake, then treated ourselves to chocolate frozen custard for dessert. If that wasn't enough, we took home some meatballs and marinara. Butcher and the Burger is open from 11 to 9 Sunday through Wednesday, 11 to 8:30 on Thursday and 11 to 10 on Friday and Saturday. I wonder if Allen Sternweiler has any other ideas in his chef's hat.

We heard about this location from co-workers as well as on the tv, figured we would give it a shot...Glad we did. The food was tasty, employees were friendly and knowledgeable, menu options are interesting. 1. Buy a huge pickle to eat. They are fresh, crisp, cold, and most of all probably the best deli pickle I've ever had 2. Burger was good, wouldn't say it is the most unique or best tasting I have ever had however it was clean, fresh, and tasty. 3. The decor is amazing yet very small and limited seating options. Everyone is pretty much on top of one another and can hear one anothers' conversations 4. For whatever reason, their bacon is magical. Try it. Seriously next visit I just might ask for a bunch of pickles and bacon.....

My daughter and son-in-law and I wanted a lunch that was easy and so we tried this place- take out. The menu and choices are amazing- pick the burger but then you need to pick the various spices to put on, then the type of bun, then the complimentary toppings (basic) and then the optional premium toppings such as avocado, cartelized onions, mushrooms, foie gras, etc, and then cheese options. Then you can pick sides or salads and drinks. My daughter and I ordered the grass fed prime beed burger and my son-in-law got the salmon burger which looked great. The burgers were delicious- tasty and well seasoned and the salmon burger looked larger than expected. I also ordered the spinach salad which was very good. They also have hand made milk shakes which I will have to get next time I go there.

My husband and I were in Chicago recently. We had heard about but your and the burger on television. One of those food channels I suppose can't remember. we had very high hopes for an excellent burger and we were not disappointed. This was the best burger either one of us has ever eaten. The fries were amazing as well. Definitely worth the trek from downtown or anywhere. I must do in Chicago

I went here for the first time with my friend. Surprised at how small the place is but in a way it makes sense--they focus on small batches of food and people at a time versus mass produced high-volume food. A short wait then greeted by a really nice man that patiently explained the food and how the order process works. I went with a standard cheddar cheese burger (that was not standard I assure you), but wanted to keep it simple for the first visit. My friend got the bison burger if I recall. Order of fries big enough for both. Coke (in the bottle). They had martinelli's apple juice too which was a good sign. Burgers were really good. Top notch. Mine didn't last too long and I made a mess but that's half the fun. Followed up with the square doughnuts (which I can't spell right now) and coffee flavored with chickory. Really fantastic service not only during ordering but 2 people came by during the meal to make sure all was well including the chef / owner. Great experience. Highly recommended.

This unassuming little place is just opposite the Armitage CTA station so it is very easily reached by public transport. It is on a strip of interesting boutique shops and has an outdoor side patio. The concept is simple choose a meat - about 5 choices here including regular beef, grass fed beef (our choice) some game I believe and a vegetarian concoction. Then choose the spice to mix in, request degree of donenes, chose the bun type - we chose lettuce and it worked surprisingly well - choose fixing many cheeses, sauces etc and add ins such as fries. We looked longingly at the fries, but skipped them this time. The grass fed beef was superb. The lettuce bun held together. The staff were knowledgable and helpful. Simple unpretentious excellent food. Endless variations on the burger theme are possible.

Tried for pizza but none or the good ones in the area were open. Going to settle for a burger and this was a wonderful surprise. There was a full menu on that needed time to read. Great selections from beef to bird. The meal came in short time and all the food was great from the vegie to the beef. Choice of buns and condiments Enjoyed the filling meal.

My friend and I were tourists in the city and a local recommended this place for dinner. It was hands down delicious. Wish I could have it every day.

This burger place is the best!! It has amazing food and atmosphere. It is very busy, sometimes it can get very busy and you can't sit anywhere but you could just get take out. It comes in 5 minutes and it is the best food ever

1. This place is BYOB 2. Many types of meat, seasonings, toppings. 3. Fantastic french fries 4. Can be expensive depending on how you deck out your burger, but it's definitely worth it! SO GOOD!

I cannot say enough things about this restaurant. I read about them before coming to Chicago and it was on my wish list. We made that wish happen on a Sunday afternoon and I will make it one of my regular haunts in the city. The burger and fries were AWESOME!!!! The burger was juicy and the fries were crisp on the outside and soft in the middle...YUM!!! Everyone got their own creation and we all left full and ready for a nap...but, it's in a great spot so no time for a nap. Of course, we couldn't complain about the weather outside. Only drawback was it seemed there were a few nagging flies in the restaurant. They might want to deal with that.

This casual eatery is small but offers big taste. We visited on a weekday for lunch and loved our burgers. The owner walked us through the whole menu and made some suggestions, and they did not disappoint. I recommend their steakhouse seasoning, and my husband loved the cajun seasoning they mix in with the ground beef. The fries were also very good. The tomato, lettuce, and onion were very fresh tasting, which I find hard to find in Chicago. We will definitely be returning!

Simply incredible & impressed two foodies in our group. In summary, you get to customize EVERYTHING here to make your burger just as you imagined it. 1. meat choice (everything from beef to turkey to bison) 2. rub selection (cajun was delicious if you like a bit of spice & flavor) 3. bread (pretzel, croissant, whole wheat bun & more) 4. cheese (cheddar, goat & more gourmet cheese selections) 5. toppings. Very reasonable price for a top notch burger. Put this on your must do list while in Chicago and you will walk away with a heavenly burger eating experience, smile on your face & already planning your next visit before you leave your first visit.

This is the best burger I've eaten since I was a teenager. It's what beef should taste like. Juicy and full of flavor. You order at the counter then take a seat. The chalk board menu behind the counter has a lot of info so I would suggest reviewing online before going (especially if you have children). House blend beef, salt and pepper, pretzel bun, cheddar cheese, mayo, Benton's bacon, and a Mexican coke...perfection!

Finally, a great-food, casual dining spot on Armitage! I was just telling friends that unless we want to spend more than we are comfortable spending on a mid-week dinner, there are not that many places to eat in our neighborhood. I almost hate to write this review because the place is small and and you’re going to keep going back once you try it, crowding me out during my many return trips. After seeing a "best burger" review in Time Out, my husband and I checked out this smallish, BYOB, corner-restaurant for dinner. I'm not a burger fan. He is and has endured, but politely has not returned to, any place I have selected in the past. Half-way through his burger he announced we should come back. He through the meat, the bun, and the hand-cut fries were all delicious. It gets better. Currently on their menu is an incredible shrimp cake that is the equivalent to a true east coast crab cake. By that I mean large lumps of fish, no filling other than some egg white magically suspending the lumps that are spiced in a heavenly manner that includes a wasabi spread. Delicious! I have given up ordering crab cakes in Chicago. Even though they say they are lump, they are not as good as the east coast and full of unappealing breading and shreds of fish. The price for The Butcher’s shrimp delight is about $13 but, as cheap as I am, so well worth it. I wanted to go back and have it for breakfast the next day. My one minor disappointment is their beignets. I was indoctrinated by the short-lived beignet shop at Lincoln and Webster a few years ago and liked those better. However, the butcher’s are fine. We took them home and they were gone before bedtime. This shop also sells meat items, including meatloaf, to go. Take time to read their extensive offerings including cooking classes. I’m not doing justice to all the extras this excellent restaurant offers. I fave "very good" for service becasue this is a go-up and order place. They deliver the food. Friendly staff and hands-on owner/chef, this casual place is top-drawer.

After visiting the Lincoln Park art fair we stopped in for lunch. Great burgers with something for everyone. Two of us had bison, one had beef and I had the lentil and brown rice burger. Customize with toppings, spice rubs. YUM! Will definitely go again.

Sauntered into Chicago to visit my kids and wanted a quick, reasonably priced meal which would be better than average. My son who attends De Paul University suggested the Butcher & the Burger. Great choice! It's located just a few blocks from the campus and if you drive, there are plenty of parking spaces on the street, albeit paid parking. We arrived mid-day on a Wednesday so, no wait. You order at the register, find a table and they bring you the food. They offer several burger choices: beef, bison, shrimp. You then add toppings to your burger, which can grow the size of the burger to gargantuan! We decided to choose from the favorite menu. I ordered the Surf Burger which was a Shrimp Burger. It was all Shrimp, cooked just right and was offset with a spicy chipotle sauce. Very satisfying. The three of us shared a small fry, which was just the right amount. FYI: Butcher & the Burger offer De Paul students a 10% discount :).

Stopped in for lunch. Place is small comfortable in a low-key way. Simple burger menu with interesting options (spice blends, various toppings and bun choices) that broaden the menu. Burgers cooked perfectly to order. I like mine 'au bleu', (close to raw) and the chef got it right. All ingredients carefully selected from local sources where possible. Definitely worth repeat visits.

Stopped for lunch with my wife and 2 yr old. I was a little worried at first because of its size if a highchair would be available and it was. The man that took our order got us situated nicely in a window table. We had the 100% prime beef burgers with an order of the hand cut fries. Everything was excellent! Burger was done perfect, seasoning was great! We all loved the fries as well. Great food, great, friendly, service. Can't go wrong here.

B&B is one of our neighborhood places we recommend to people from all over the city. It's definitely worth the trip. It's almost always crowded because it is so good. LOTS, and I do mean lots, of burger combinations are available. I personally love so many cheese selections and the fact that they will cook your burger to temperature...you don't have to settle for "medium" like everywhere else. The fries are really good, too. They have a small outdoor seating area during the summer months and service out there is good, too.

Every time I come here I have a great burger. The meat is very juicy and tender. They use fresh ingredients and it makes a huge difference. My husband loves the Sonorah desert chili seasoning. The staff is very helpful and nice. It also has a good location. After enjoy an amazing burger you can take a nice walk around.

This place is very small so you might have to wait for a table/counter seat. You order at the counter, no table service, but we got plenty of attention from the staff so that was really nice. It's BYO - we brought wine and they gave us glasses and cork with no cork fee. It wasn't busy when we were there so no one seemed to mind that we sat around for a while drinking after we ate. (We would have left if people were waiting for tables). There is outside seating but no alcohol outside. A burger with no fries is about $9 to $10. The build your own is great - you pick the seasoning, toppings, burger type, etc. There are several more exotic burgers like shrimp, swordfish and elk. We didn't have dessert but the pie looked really good. The fries were good - a large order was plenty for our group of five. We loved the sweet potato chips too. The burgers were really big and messy - I grabbed a fork and knife to eat mine. Food is served on individual butcher block board. Bathrooms were really clean. Cute decor. We enjoyed our meal - no complaints.

The burgers you get from here taste like they've just come off the Weber in the backyard. No joke. And what's even more amazing is how much they let you customize your burger down to the seasoning and bun. I'm a traditionalist and like a plan cheese burger, so there is no hiding the taste behind rabbit food or condiments and these burgers are VERY addictive. So are the fries with the truffle sauce. The prices are a little high, but for the quality its not stopping me from coming back. And the service here is friendly, especially for a first timer who might need a 101 on the menu.

Simply the best hamburger I've had in better than a half century. Many choices of meats (beef, turkey, salmon, pork, etc. and a vegan option), pick your own spice combination (Chicago Steakhouse adds a nice accent to the meat without intruding on the flavor), pick one of the half dozen types of buns, and various condiments, toppings - and wait for the great, cooked to order burger. If you like burgers, this place is not to be missed - atmosphere is clean "hole in the wall" style - there is some outdoor seating on the side of the restaurant. Last item, it is BYOB.

This is just not as good as it used to be. The staff are not nice, the ordering process was unpleasant and the guy taking the order was extremely dismissive. My order was taken incorrectly. The beef was over cooked, the pretzel roll was stale, and the fries had a bad aftertaste (I suspect the supplier was changed). My suggestion is to go somewhere else. I used to tell everyone that B&TB is the best burger in Chicago. It simply is not anymore.

This little gem is nestled into a corner store that has an old school feel - three large blackboards on a brick wall list an array of burger types (such as bison, vegan, salmon, shrimp and beef), bun types (including lettuce!), spice rubs (they make their own), sauces (including wasabi mayo and Sriracha aioli), free condiments and premier condiments (a yummy mix). They also make vegan fries free from animal fat (yay)! Seriously...the vegan burger was the most delicious of all I've eaten before. Rice, nuts, and other delish ingredients made for a hearty patty that didn't fall apart after the first or second bite. The price is very reasonable. The turnaround time is a little longish, but worth it!

This was a spur of the moment decision for us. It was probably our favorite meal on the trip. The burger was incredible, the service was fun and no-frills, and the CUSTARD. My god. We got the caramel custard after we ate and we were so happy that we did. Do not miss this neighborhood favorite.

6/10 overall. I'm not gonna lie, you cannot ignore the quality of the beef, but once mixed with the toppings and the bread it kind of loses it's quality - the staff was not the most welcoming. The fries were disappointing. Side note: they don't sell beer. I do recommend it, but is not a place I would visit frequently.

the only reason this place got a 4 star and not 5 is because it is so good, they need more room for customers! This is a little restaurant in uptown Chicago, but worth the stop if you are in the area. Excellent burgers, where you get a huge selection to build you're own burger. So juicy and good! Take note that the "small" order of fries is huge! We wished we would have ordered one to share between 2 people. Seating is limited, but you can order to go. Prices are very affordable!

Friday night, burger on the brain. Mission: feed the beast. Let's go! First stop, Au cheval...obnoxious wait...per usual. Beast can't wait. Google search...4 stars for Butcher & the Burger, here we go! Get there, no wait. Umami burger, fries and iced tea. Requested Medium on the burger...it was well. Like very well. Who eats meat like this?!?! Fries were meh, iced tea was meh. 4 stars? !?! Ummm, not in Chicago. Perhaps rural Iowa somewhere. FOH. No bueno. Next time, i will tame the beast for a 2 hour wait at Au cheval....that is all.

The burgers are solid. I like the house blend, and the sirloin burgers. Both are packed with flavor. Add a spice blend (Cajun blend and the Chicago Style Steakhouse blends are very good) and you have a taste treat. Nice choice of buns, sides and cheeses. They also have some good premium toppings like the Benton Bacon or the BBQ pork belly. They also have turkey (Good),Lentil brown rice (Vegan), and a few other burgers. Fries are good with the black truffle mayo. Small place with a few tables. They have outside seating in nice weather (About 5 tables). Parking is street side, and pretty easy to find.

This place is known for fresh ingredients and great spice blends. Plenty of "build-your-own" options available. Bison and Elk are quite pricey for a 6 ounce burger ($13 - $16) especially when you consider that the burgers do not include any sides. The fries are consistently delicious. I am planning to buy the spice blends as holiday gifts for friends. Limited table seating, but lots of counter seats. The atmosphere is quite cool - not romantic - perfect for a Saturday outing with friends or family or anyone in the mood for a good burger. Butcher & The Burger serves breakfast as well. The menu looked fantastic. I hope to try that soon!

Corner Butcher Shop Boutique Burger Shop...Great Burgers...High Priced but worth it! Very limited seating. Excellent Service. Great Atmosphere however very small...probably best to do carry out during normal dining hours.

So my wife and I happened across Butcher & The Burger as a late lunch just walking around town. The atmosphere is great and the two burgers and fries were great as well. I got a regular Grass Fed Burger with Cheddar Cheese and my wife got a kid's size of the same. We shared a large fry and it was the perfect amount of food. Neither of us felt too full to get out and walk. It was great being able to sit at butcher blocks for tables and the food being brought on miniature butcher blocks. There isn't much seating so be sure you are okay with waiting for a table to open up. For us it was timed perfectly by the time our food was prepared and brought to us. I think we waited for a table for about 10-15 minutes before we got a table and then the food was to us after 2 or 3 minutes more. Everything is made to order so don't expect to be in and out like a fast food restaurant. The closest chain I can compare it to is a very small Five Guys but the food is much better and has a neighborhood dive feel to it. I will come back here every time I'm in Chicago. It's worth 25 minutes of walking and train riding to get there.

Very juicy delicious all American burger for $9. It is close to brown/purple line and it is BYOB but has a good variety of other drinks.

One of the best vegetarian burgers ever - Great customizable menu, where you pick your protein, seasoning, and a bunch of interesting toppings. Homemade custard to top it off! This place can be busy, so be prepared to wait for a seat.

I heard from a few neighbors this place was pretty good so my wife, son and i decided to give it a try. We were in the mood for Burgers and Fries so we ordered. The Burgers with Fried egg (All of us had them) was Really good and good Sized and the fries were good as well. I would give the Burgers a 5 star rating and the fries a 4. That said........ We will certainly order from them again at some point. As far as their delivery goes...... I believe you have to go through Diningin delivery or another similar delivery business. They were a bit slow but nice and had the order perfect. Hope that helped a few of you that were looking for a good Burger. I KNOW Chicago has Great Burger Joints and this Place Rates pretty well. If you have not tried it yet i would give it a try. PS- They also have NO problem making the Burgers anyway you want them and they will put everything but the Kitchen sink on them if ordered.

I stopped in on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. There was no line, the staff was very friendly. There are many options for seasonings on the burgers. Recommendations came quickly from the staff. Pretzel buns are an option for the burgers and worth the extra cost. The outdoor dining was pleasant, but the sidewalk is notably uneven so you need to be 'flexible' with your seating. The inside has the basics for seating but nothing about it creates a fine dining experience. It's a down to earth place where you want to enjoy a good burger in the neighborhood.

We went to this restaurant for the first time and had a great experience. The salad was great as were the turkey burger and Bison burger. There are so many great toppings. The dining area filled quickly but the customers moved in and out fairly quickly. There is also a larger outdoor seating area.

Probably the juiciest burger I've ever had. It could have been a 5 but it had WAY too much pepper. Pretzel bun was very tasty and worth the .65 up-charge. Very fresh ingredients, small friendly atmosphere and attentive staff. I would eat here again, but hold the pepper.

Okay, the burgers are superb, but the fresh cut fries and the custard is out of sight! Do yourself a favor and check out this standout in Chicago dining.

I absolutely love bison burgers so when I saw it on the menu I knew I couldn't pass it up. They have a number of spices that you can choose from to "spice up" your burger--I obviously went with the wild game spices for bison. My burger was so juicy and flavorful. ALSO- the black truffle mayo is a must if you order fries. I love/hate that this place is right down the street from me because I want to go all of the time. It is a little pricey for a burger, but it's worth it!

Al knows what a burger actually means and he creates masterpieces. I have traveled a lot, and never have seen meat cooked to such perfection. Its simple, small but artfully created. Highly recommended to ones who love meat prepared the way it should be. Choices are simple, meat is of quality, and made to perfection.

The other day I was with my family on a Sunday evening trying to find something new to eat. Thankfully through an internet research followed by a tripadvisor verification we choose this place. No regrets. Great burgers and nice attendants with lots of customizations. We definitely will go there again.

There is a great selection of different meats to choose from, as well as various spices, buns, toppings. I've been there a couple of times now. The house blend is excellent! There is a slightly more expensive grass fed beef option, which I thought would equate to a better tasting burger, but that is NOT the case. TRUST ME... just go with the standard house blend (there are other exotic options). While there are plenty of bun and toppings options, which are individual preference, I will say the Chicago Steakhouse blend is fantastic!! The place is small and can get busy, but it's nice atmosphere. Two people can split a french fry. The burger is served to you on a small wooden cutting board, and the burger is fantastic! It's the best burger I've had in Chicago. One word of advise, if you want drinks other than water, I suggest buying them somewhere else and bringing them with you. They do have soda there, but it's VERY expensive ($3) per glass botttle.

Decent enough when it comes to flavor, but was extremely disappointed in the 'undersized' bun and found it extremely difficult when attempting to eat.

Have eaten here several times now - it's our favorite place near the Armitage Brown Line stop. My only beef with the place (haha) is that they should have more pre-designed burgers from which to choose, in order to prevent those with unimaginitive pallates from going awry. It's a fun, casual atmosphere to get great food. Definitely get the fries with the mayonaise. If you want dessert, the custard and beignets are both awesome.

It was my husbands idea to come here and eat after finding a parking spot I was overcome by an amazing charbroiled scent. There was a long line minimal seating I was discouraged to stay and eat, but that smell was unforgiving. We chose burgers to go with large fries (monster fries) and the food was AAAAAAMAZING!!!! By far the best burger I've EVER HAD. Please don't be discouraged by the seating you won't regret it! My mouth is still watering as I write this review.

My boyfriend and I went here on a tip from a local magazine review. It is supposed to be the best burger in the city. The selection of menu items for each burger make each one fantastic. However, this place is a bit pricey for a make your own burger restaurant. As soon as I am back in Lincoln Park I will be back for a Turkey burger!

These burgers are the best burgers ever! They are fresh, and the turkey burgers (my favorite) are perfectly cooked, when at everywhere else they are burnt. The fries are so delicious too, and the seasonings that you can choose from for your burger are magnificent! This is the best burger place ever! PS They have slow service (like a 20 minute wait) but the service doesn't matter, considering that the burgers are perfect!
Make your own burger!!
It was my first visit in Chicago and I felt like a real American burger! Friends recommended this place! I was very hungry and couldn't really figure out what burger to build but it's actually a great idea to create your own burger! You choose your meat, flavour, bun, cheese, and toppings! Very very fresh and yummmy! Definitely recommend if you feel like a real burger!
