Wonderful

By kbm22 |

I dined at the bar and was very pleased with the wine and food selection as well as the friendly service. I chose two different white wine flights and enjoyed the description cards so I could reflect on the flavors I tasted and which wines they were. I enjoyed the lobster and shrimp potstickers but the real star of the show, for me, was the pear and gorgonzola pizza! It was flavorful and brick oven baked perfectly! I would definitely go back again when I'm in town. The atmosphere was relaxing and the food & wine were outstanding.

Vino High Priced

By lajs |

it's simply over priced wine. the location is in the west village section of uptown which must account for the higher than average prices. i just don't think there's any value here.

Perfection!

By ImABoyMom |

Husband and I walked over from an Uptown hotel for our anniversary dinner at CRU. We didn’t tell anyone it was our anniversary; we just wanted a good meal and good wine in a warm, inviting setting. CRU did not disappoint! We had the cheese fondue to start- what a lovely variety of vegetables, fruits, and bread for dipping! We selected entrees and wine flights to pair with them. The wine pairings were fun- the presentation was original. The entrees were delicious! The meal was not rushed- we were given ample time to eat the fondue before our entrees arrived. The server was attentive and helpful in our selections. We had a wonderful meal in this beautiful setting. Looking forward to a date night here- so many shareable tapas to choose from! And I MUST try the Bubbly Flight!

Perfect for Intimate Dinner or Happy Hour with Friends

Love Cru! Excellent wine list and the servers and bartenders always take their time answering questions and teaching about the selections. Love the ample wine flights. Dinner menu is very good but I also like a cheese board or calamari and shrimp just as well. Beautiful atmosphere and nice patio.

Wine Dinner at Cru Was Excellent

By Johnmac541 |

Had the opportunity for a Wine Dinner at Cru featuring Trinchero Wines. Wines & food were excellent (try Trinchero "Chicken Ranch" Merlot 2008 if you can find it. Or any year i believe!). The food was all off menu and geared towards the pairings with our wine. All done excellently. Foie Gras especially! The place is small (maybe tiny?). Only a dozen tables and the bar...so pick your times to go. Large wine list and offerings of course and what looks like an interesting menu. We will go back for dinner.

My favs list

By CarlaEb |

Cru is one of our favs in Dallas. We go there very often for various reasons: location, food, service and their fabulous wine list. They have some specials during the week, such as the half price bottle of champagne on Thursday. Food is delicious and the chef is always around checking the costumers and preparing some new and tasteful food. Strongly recommend.

Consistently Good Food, Wine and Service

By Niblik2010 |

We have been regulars to Cru for several years and their consistency deserves notice. With so many new places opening in the improved economy, Cru deserves recognition for their consistency. We typically eat at the bar, and the bar tender has been there for a time so knows the menu and their entire wine list intimately. The scallops, Tuna Tartare and pizzas are all good - better than other restaurants with similar offers in West Village. If you haven't been, or not in a while, drop by.

Friends, Food and Wine

Started out at the movie next door and ended our evening at Cru A Wine Bar. Small place but worth the wait.Food was good and the service matched. Some of our group enjoyed their Wine flights as well.

It's 1am and I am up sick from this restaurant

By CA2CT2TX |

Sick to my stomach. The menu is terrible and limited to begin with, slow service and the food is awful. Never, ever going back. So many other better choices even within 50 yards of this place. Awful and beyond disappointing

A welcome return to a favourite wine bar

By Phil D |

Having frequented this wine bar many times prior to my departure from Dallas in 2009, it was great to be greeted back by Adam, General Manager, and Jacob the bar manager. They made me so welcomed after being away for so many years. The fillet mignon I had was cooked to perfection However the main reason for visiting is the wine. A superb selection by the glass

No matter the reason it’s great

By SparkHuerta |

Amazing location, right into West Village vibrant area. Their wine flight options are excellent; they give you a smart card with the presentation of the wines you are tasting and that helps a lot when getting to know what you choose. Food is great, bruschetta is delicious and their pizza is just perfect. Overall the experience is rich and lovely. Atmosphere is great for business, friends get together, romantic evening or just to be by yourself because the bar area is a very nice alternative.

Nice little wine bar

By Gahan |

I don't frequent wine bars too often but we were waiting for a table in a nearby busy restaurant for dinner, so we decided to come here for wine. We ordered a small appetizer and wine flights. The service was great and interior is really nice. We were seated immediately, enjoyed our wine and then went to dinner. It was a nice way to wait for a dinner table instead of hanging out in the restaurant lobby.

Nice upscale experience

By russkwtx |

We had a very pleasant and enjoyable dinner here on a Sunday night. The restaurant was not very busy at all which is surprising considering how good the food is. The ambience is upscale modern and warm. The shrimp and lobster potstickers are really good, a bit of sweet from the seafood combined with a spicy sauce and a fresno chili pepper. I really like them. The classic cheese board was excellent, a very nice selection of cow milk cheeses combined with figs, pears, and apples. Very tasty. The wife got the meat board and it was good but not as good as at Toulouse. The one at Toulouse has more variety. I had a pear and gorgonzola pizza and liked it a lot. The crust is between thin and thick. It was a good pizza. Our server was helpful and efficient. She turned down the fan because the restaurant was freezing cold and blowing directly on us. The main reason for 4 stars and not 5 is because the soap dispenser in the men's room was empty which raises questions about sanitation for employees there. We look forward to our return.

Great stopping place at the airport

By Gwen W |

After a very long journey from Australia, we sat for our first meal back in the States. I just wanted a small bite and had the lump crab appetizer. Delicious!! My husband had the Cobb salad. The portions were more than generous. The kids had grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato soup which they also enjoyed very much. Good place!!

Wonderful spot for a quiet girls night out

By littlelily1 |

Met my girlfriends there for wine and dinner and EVERYTHING was just perfect. Food was sooooo delicious, granted it is a fancy pants kind of menu. The ribs I ordered just fell apart, mmmm mmmm good. The wine choices were vast. Get the sampler if you are unsure or want more bang for your buck. :) Finish with a yummy dessert (pie a la mode was, again, perfect.) Atmosphere is perfect because the room has low lighting, so everyone looks extra fabulous! The interior design is warm and intimate (not a loud place, excellent acoustics so you don't have to talk loud to hear your friends.) Service was outstanding. Our waitress was friendly and informative about the wine and food offerings.

Great food and wine

By siloamjim |

This uptown restaurant is a real find. The wine was delicious, and the food was just as good. I had a small filet and my wife had the chicken piccata. We split the crab cake appetizer. The bartender recommended an Emeritus pinot noir, which was lightly chilled. Everything, including the service, was spot-on. Highly recommend!

Superb Food

By Recn |

The food here was superb. I had the pan roasted chicken and it was done to perfection, though, it is very lemony, which might be off-putting for some! and also, it was on the pricey side if you're looking to save money. If you love to taste different wines, i recommend buying a Flight, which gives you a selection of three different wines, along with taste description cards. Overall, this is a great place to dine, the staff are friendly, and polite and the food was served in a timely manner. We only had an hour to eat there as we were going to the movies and we were in and out in without feeling rushed. Would recommend and go again when I'm in the area.

Sit there during the sunset and people watch.

By gamerodoyle |

Lamb lollipops, wine flights. Pizza. Nice ambiance. I wish they had more wines from NZ, but I forgive them.

Romantic Setting, Decent Choices

By Morgan M |

I enjoy visiting Cru mainly because of the location. It is in the heart of West Village, surrounded by restaurants, shops, and bars. This area is always bustling with young-mid age people. Cru has a great outdoor eating/drinking are, large indoor space, and bar. The lighting inside is dim and perfect for a romantic date. Downside on wine section is there are more choices by the bottle than by the glass, but the walls are full with tons of bottles to choose from. Their food and appetizer selection is great too! I love their artisan cheese plate & margarita pizza. Be sure to check their website because they bring back a special of 'free pizza with a bottle of wine' every so often. The staff is very professional and knowledgable. If you do not know a thing about wine, or want to branch out from your regular drink of choice, the wait staff will not steer you wrong! Also, although the space inside is not very large, it is still great for an intimate group of people due to their layout.

Nice little wine bar in West Village

By u2fan56 |

My wife and I went to Cru recently for happy hour. We did not eat dinner but we did share one of their many cheese plate options. We had the American Classic and it was great. There is large selection of flights and glasses. For Happy Hour, the glasses and flights have $3 discount. There are also food discounts at happy hour for various appetizers. There are entrees options for dinner but we did not partake. The atmosphere is very nice and relaxing especially when it is over 100 degress in Dallas.

Zac is the Best

Come for the wine, stay for Zac. Or, come for Zac and stay for the wine. Either is a great choice. Great wine and better service. What more could you ask for?

Great wine bar in Uptown Dallas

By lynjo |

Cru is a great wine bar although a bit pricey with an interesting menu. You can sit inside or out although it's limited seating. It's worth an evening out for a nice romantic evening.

Pizza?

By lorit5 |

I know this is crazy, but we stopped here and had their flights of wine...me the cab and my daughter had the Sauvignon blanc. They were all tasty, but the BEST part was the silly pizza we ordered. It was delicious! Also ended with beignets. Maybe they were better in New Orleans, but an interesting take on them.

Wonderful Adult/Romantic Wine Bar

By Vivi_y_Andres |

My wife and I have been to CRU at the West Village (Dallas) several times now and we always are happily surprised with their food, wine and service. Our favorite and most recommended small plate is the Pear & Gorgozola pizza, it is phenomenal! We've also had the Filet Mignon and the Cast Iron Seared Sea Scallops and they were all wonderful choices. The wine flights are variate and interesting, we always have fun trying a new one. We highly recommend CRU, it's a very nice escape back to adulthood (away from our to little ones for a couple of hours!), you will not be disappointed.

unfortunate service

By avidtravelercalgary |

The food started off being very good, we got as far as the desert menu and that was when it fell apart. The waiter gave us the desert menu, said he'd be back and 25 minutes later he still hadn't come to take our orders. It was at this point that we went to the bar to ask for the bill. We had to wait another 10 minutes for the bartender to ring us up and at the very end our waiter showed up and mumbled something about new systems. There were maybe 6 tables occupied in the entire restaurant at the time, he basically ignored us.

Great wine selection. Servers are very helpful with what to pair with each food item.

See, and be seen

By Ellenmarie13 |

Located right in the heart of the West Village, Uptown Dallas. A place to see, and be seen. Our experience was OK ... service was a little slow and despite us telling our waitress we were in a rush it still took 15 mins to get the glass of wine I'd ordered as soon as we were seated. But, the food was prompt and delicious (tuna tartare and tomato soup), and the wine when it finally arrived was great (and should be for $13!). Atmos wasn't anything special, but the people watching is great.

Very pleasant pre-movie experience

By goddess0063 |

My hubby and I came here before a movie at the Magnolia. Since it was during happy hour we took advantage of it all and of course still spent more than I would've thought possible. We ordered our flights (Patio Whites for me and Syrahs for hubs)....both were great and I plan to look up most of them for future purchase. Off the happy hour menu we ordered: -Goat Cheese Beignets - perfectly done and soooo tasty! -Calamari - simple and delicious, with what tasted like a homemade sauce -Steamed mussels - Same review as the calamari -Margherita pizza - nice, but nothing special. I would've preferred more basil in larger pieces I also ordered dessert - the lemon tart. Loved the pistachio crust but I honestly think it's way overpriced for what it was. All the desserts seemed stupidly overpriced, imo. Next time I'll just go over to Pagiugo and get some gelato. Overall I like Crú enough to come back one of these days when we're in the area. It's a small space but nicely done. The service is efficient and super friendly and the happy hour menu is a pretty good deal with a decent enough variety of plates.

Frenchman Approved

By Jmgb91 |

Very cozy place, their wine flights are well priced ($15) with excellent pairing and choices (cheese and charcuterie plates). No need to be a wine expert, descriptions are handed to you and the waitress will help you pick the one you like most. Great date idea (plan on spending ~$50) with lots of conversation topics (wines and what you each smell/taste in each wine)

Our Private Event Was a Huge Success!

By Jon from Dallas |

CRÚ West Village hosted a private event for the Turtle Creek Association last night, and we are all still bragging about the great time everyone had. With 75 guests in attendance, our group was a handful, but CRÚ Manager, Noel and his staff handled the food and wine with ease. Sommelier, Don poured a wine selection ranging from Prosecco to Merlot, and non-stop hors d'oeuvres and light bites were served hot from the kitchen. What was so impressive about the evening was the level of service and friendly hospitality that CRÚ exhibited. Regular patrons were seated outside in the Dallas heat and given the same level of attention. Rumor was that a Dallas celebrity chef came for dinner and was informed of the private event. Instead of leaving, he was seated outside and suffered the heat, all for the taste of great food and wine served with style. Being treated in a special way is the mark of a great neighborhood bar, and CRÚ fills the bill in West Village. Thank you Team CRÚ for a beautiful evening!

What a find!

By David B |

Right next door to the cinema in West Village, Cru is a sophisticated wine bar with a quality menu. We had the Filet Mignon, salmon and creme brûlée - all outstanding. A unique aspect to Cru is their tasting 'flights' - 3 2 oz glasses of similar but different wines giving you the chance to educate your palette.

Drinks before dinner

By Valerie F |

A great wine bar with knowledgeable staff and changing wine menu. Since it is hot here in July, I ordered a very refreshing Gruner Veltliner. Loved it. They have a small menu as well here. Seem to have some regular customers that are well known and treated great. Can't wait to try it again!

Great choice of wines

By Hannelore H |

We went there to enjoy the wine and we did. The food is secondary, but I loved the crab cake which was lots of crab one no bread or potato. My husband loved the pear and Gorgonzola pizza. It is more a place to drink than to eat. Don't go if you expect a wide choice of food, but if you like your wine do.

Very pleasant!

By stevebrigden |

A nice wine bar in a nice part of Dallas. I liked the way you can get a 'flight' of wine - a small taster of three different wines from a similar region. I tried the Beaujolais flight - very nice if not quite fantastic. The small food plates made the perfect snack too. Atmosphere was good too.

Fabulous place!

By Jee ess |

Love the location and wine selection! All of the food is yummy too- from the pizzas to the Salmon! I love this place! The service is pretty stellar, in my experience, as well!

Hip and Romantic

By MoiTwo |

Hip to go with friends and romantic with your date. We have been several times and always love the ambiance, wine selections and food, we've never had a bad experience here, with the exception ONCE of a waitress suggesting a wine, but when we got the bill it was $50 for the glass, really? However, we did call it to her attention and she took 50% off that wine price for not having told us how much it was. We were new the first time and I am a firm believer that if a waiter suggests a dish or wine or anything that is a lot more expensive than what people usually pay, it should always be disclosed somehow. Since she rectified it, we didn't have a problem with this place for the rest of the night or ever again. Thanks!

Outstanding service, food, staff

By Deemark |

First let me say the attention to detail by the staff is beyond compare. The Riesling's are delicious. I am new to the wine scene. The creamy, smoky and fruity flavors were a real treat. The food was oh my good. The braised short ribs were tender and cooked to perfection. The outside patio was comfortable and cozy. The staff took care of any and everything we needed. This is definitely a date night do over again and again.

After Work Drinks

By Patrice N |

Cru is a cute quaint place for a drink after work. I enjoyed a cheese and wine flight but I hear the beignets are amazing so I will be back for those. The happy hour deals here are pretty good. Check this place out after work for a quick drink and snack. I am a stickler for service and my waitress was okay. The one issue I had was with seating. There is no true hostess so you seat yourself. I went to sit in a particular area and was asked if I had a reservation because that table was reserved...no one ever came to sit in the spot I was asked to move from. That was a strange occurrence but other than that I had a nice time.

Birthday, Wine Tasting, Exceptional door and Service

By Jay W |

Booked our daughters birthday celebration at Cru and arranged a 5 course dinner (small plates) and wine tasting ! This is a cozy space indoors with a very small kitchen (1 stove/oven and pizza oven) but they produced incredible variety and high quality food (nine plates all together, all hot) as well as managing a full restaurant. Our exceptional server (Nina) kept everything on course, introduced each plate like a chef and each wine like a sommelier and a smile to boot! The birthday celebration was great fun with good family and friends but amplified by the fantastic chef, kitchen and server ! We'll be back !!

Best girls night & birthday ever!!

By Totoro232 |

My girls took me out for my birthday—yes all 6 of us! We had never been here before but I wanted low key tapas and wine. The restaurant is small and cozy but the atmosphere is very elegant. Our server Melissa took very good care of us and we were never without. The food here is delicious and the wine flights are worth getting so you can try a bit of everything. I liked the first champagne in the trio of the bubblies. We started with the fig & prosciutto pizza then margherita pizza with two orders of the goat cheese beignets and the lamb lollipops. The margherita pizza was so good we ordered another one. Both the wines and foods were flowing abundantly. On top of the already spectacular experience, Chef Shane made our table a special trio of desserts to celebrate my birthday and surprised us with them. We literally felt like family, like we’ve been going there for years! We will be returning for girls night very soon as they have made loyal customers out of us. Thank you so much for making my birthday a very special one and taking such good care of all of us!

Great afterwork..meet up...

By Erin P |

Great afterwork..meet up with the girlfriend or boyfriend spot. I love getting the red wine flights and expanding my horizons on wine. But expect to spend alot of money for very little food. This would be my only complaint.

Good for Glass of Wine

By Jelena B |

In West Village so it's a good stop for a glass of wine with friends or just to take a breather to people watch. Nice outside seating.

Great food, great place to relax

By Kim A |

I've sat at the bar all three times I've been to this Cru location. It's a relatively small place, which I like. The atmosphere and decor are typical for wine bars -- cozy, modern, attractive. They also have a great patio area that I'll try one of these days. Where this location really shines is the staff. Everyone I have encountered is friendly and refreshingly unpretentious. Sal is upbeat and warm, and he makes it his mission to create a comfortable and inviting experience for his guests. The other bartender (I think Jacob) is really nice and has a solid knowledge of the flavor profiles of their wines, which is very helpful...they have a decent-sized wine list, and I only know enough to be dangerous and confuse myself. Jacob's intervention was a true time-saver :) The food is really good. I've had their Charcuterie Board and their Cru Steak Pizza, both yummy, but the star of the show (so far) is the Fig & Gorgonzola Bruschetta. Oh my. Absolutely delicious. They have a full entree menu as well. A few caveats to my review of the wine selection itself: Wine is a vast world, it's extremely subjective, and there are countless variables. I love wine and drink it pretty often at a fair number of places, but I'm nowhere near an expert, and frankly my palate kinda sucks (though I'm working on it), so take the following opinion with all of that in mind. I have tried a few of their reds, and while they were all good, I have not yet had any that were standouts. However, there are lots that I haven't tried, and all the other elements of this place draw me back, so I will probably eventually try everything and will likely find a few that I love. Incidentally, wine is all they offer. No beer or liquor. Cru is a great spot for a nice intimate dinner date, to chill with friends on the patio and split appetizers, or to unwind after a stressful day at work and enjoy a warm and welcoming environment.

Different Style of Wine Tasting

By ZhuHuaLong |

Cru' offers patrons a way to sample wines by type, while enjoying your dinner. It is small and fairly New York style "hole in the wall Manhattan" place that will get crowded in the later evening. I went early and it filled up quickly. I ended up ordering a sampling of appetizer type dishes, (Ahi tuna tartar) and sampled two different wine "foursomes" The service was very good and the food was in just the right amounts to not stuff you while you taste your wine. I believe they have wine to purchase if you enjoy a particular one. The price was a little high, but still reasonable for what you received.

very nice atmosphere. cool place to just chill out. too pretentious though

Enjoyable Flights and Tastes

By Jerri G |

Second time here (first was for a wine tasting event) and so happy we stopped in again! We each had a wine flight: 3 - 2 oz selections - dropped at the table in a triple wine carrier. We had the special movie dinner menu at $26 that included 2 courses. I had the pot stickers and salmon, and my husband had the tomato basil salad and pizza. Food was good - salmon a little dry in the middle but on a bed of delicious grains. the fish could have used a light sauce and/ or a little less cooking. Getting 2 free movie tickets made this a great deal and a wonderful evening. Happy hour gives you $3 off a flight or glass and small plates for $6 and under. Think we will be back soon!

Time to burn

Had 4 hours to burn in Dallas International, selected a corner table, unmasked and enjoyed their wine and food selections. No. 5 Bubbly Flight with Chefs Choice cheese tray. Time flew by in a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. Not crowded.

Birthday Celebration Success

By jamus61 |

We celebrated our daughter's 35th birthday at Cru with their couple friends and it was wonderful. From the wine lists to the nightly specials it was perfect. The appetizers, especially the tuna tartar and charcuterie board, were amazing. The filets and tenderloin specials were the hit of the group. The waiter, Salvador, was fun, professional and handled a large group very well! He helped to make our night as special as we wanted for our beautiful daughter!

Wine Flights Delight

By Angela V |

Such a great find in Dallas! Their wine flights are perfect for pairing with light bites for a casual dinner with friends.

Disappointed in the wine

By victoria_adams |

We were looking forward to a wine flight tasting evening but the wines weren't great which is a pity as it is very local but I don't think we will return with many other great options in the area

Love this location of CRU wine Bar.

By Sherry |

Simply wonderful food. Great service. Nice selection of wine. Definitely try the Shrimp and Lobster potstickers. Tonight we had the Charcuterie Platter and the Scallops. Both Devine.

A Gem.

By Laurene C |

I choose this restaurant based on the on-line menu and was not at all disappointed. I had the Lamp Lollipops as a appetizer with a pizza for a main course and my husband had the Cru Salad and the sea bass as his main meal. Great good. Great service (thanks Derek). Great ambiance. Great wine. Great Experience.

Cozy place to wine and dine

By ChefKristen |

I love this place! My husband and I have been going their for 6 years. The food is always excellent. It is a bit pricey, but worth it. The wine list is extensive and the staff have good knowledge to help you decide. They also serve several tasting flights so you can try a variety of wines. They provide excellent fine dining service. If you get on their email list they send you updates about special wine paired dinners and fun things like Free Pizza Monday's.

Cozy Spot on a rainy night

By haddad007 |

We were going to a movie at the Magnolia and thought lets eat at Cru. Great idea. Cozy candle light wine bar with an excellent menu of appetizers, pizza and mains not to mention a fantastic wine list ranging from Flights to bottles. We had the tuna tartar, salumi platter, steak pizza and a salad and shared it all. A bottle of Foxen Pinot made it a perfect night with lots of rain outside but we were cozy and then ready for our Movie.

Excellent food, wine, atmosphere

By MAJ M |

We walked in Cru quite be accident. It is adjacent the Magnolia theater. Parking is abundant and convenient in the center of this West Village block. It has a modern kind of hip feel to it. It is not huge. There is a bar and a bar stool table beside it and then perhaps 10 tales. Wine is from floor to ceiling along one wall, with the kitchen just visible in the back. We had Ahi Tartare, goat cheese, and a mini pizza starter, followed by a beef and salmon main. All were above average. Actually very excellent. Wine selection was about 35 options by the glass, more than average, reasonably priced and quite good. This is one of the better places in Dallas, and there is zero doubt we will go back. In fact, I think this may have been the best quality food I have had in Dallas, with a nice atmosphere to boot.

By NRambo |

Great Chef w/creative dishes. They don't take reservations but each time I've called, they take my name and ask what time I'm coming in. Always very accommodating. Very nice manager. Wine flights are a good way to try new wines. They change them up enough to keep it interesting.

Excellent experience

By 2millionandcounting |

Outstanding staff, will go back just for the banter. Great wine selection and because i came in Sunday evening, 30% off the bottle price. The small plates were all good. Casual, but refined.

Birthday Dinner

By Glenn Davidson |

We took my sister and brother-in-law to dinner for my sister’s birthday. It is a great small upscale restaurant and bar in Dallas. The food and service were both wonderful. A great place for the celebration. My wife had the braised short ribs that were delicious. My sister loved her lobster and shrimp pot stickers and my brother in law throughly enjoyed the halibut. If you have room try the desserts. My wife and I shared the Cremebrulee. A wonderful experience.

A study of mediocrity

By Dianaleigh |

I guess I would call this a study in mediocrity. Food and wine were ok. Nothing inspiring or special about the wine or food. I had the salmon salad and the Light flight. None of the flights got me excited. Music was horrible. Grating and dance party vs a nice relaxing wine bar. Not likely to come back.

Unique

The ambiance is romantic and quaint. Always the most particular wine choices new and upcoming. Nice quiet outdoor patio.

Village Cru

By dan s |

This is a cozy spot in the West Village section of Dallas. The wine selection is good but the prices are not a great value. It's very comfortable spot and the atmosphere is nice. It's not the typical young beer crowd from the McKinney section so that's a nice alternative if that's what you desire.
