Terrific lunch downtown on Congress!

By Jan W |

What a great find! Three of us walked in for lunch after a walking tour of a nearby historic district—and had a great surprise at the quality of the food, the ambience, and the service!! (What else could you ask for?) Our friend was thrilled with the ropa vieja—it was tasty and well-spiced. The fillings in the Cuban sandwich were excellent, although the bread could have been better toasted. I opted for two starters. The tropical ceviche needed a bit more lime juice which our very attentive waiter willingly and quickly brought. The Cuban tamal was one of the best I have ever had either in Cuba or anywhere else! A couple of those with some beans and a salad would have made an outstanding meal!! Ample sides of plantain chips were excellent—and the mojo sauce was superb. We'll definitely go back!!

Cuban Gem - Strip malls really have the best restaurants in Texas!

By Jesper J |

I had Pollo al Horno - Chicken Quarters marianted in Cuban flavors, butter, soy sauce and slowly oven roasted, it came with rice and beans. I selected a side of Mariquitas - Green plaintain chips served with Mojo (a garlic / olive oil sauce). The Chicken was juicy and tender with the meat falling off the bones, while the skin was crispy. The best chicken I have had at a reasonably priced restaurant in a very long time. I had to ask for more Mojo, it sauce was so good I used it on my rice and beans The Green Plaintain chips where freshly made and crispy without being too sweet for a diner side. The acoustic was great, we could easily hear each other. The Cuban owner keeps the place is very authentic, with Cuban art and colors to complement the food. We were there on a tuesday night and arrived at 6:00 pm we had the place to ourselves at first. The crowd arrived at 7:00 - 7:30 and when we left the place was pretty full. Definitely coming back next time I am in Austin.

Hidden Gem

By Kelley S |

Austin real estate is expensive so nice little resturants are opening in old strip centers. This Cuban resturant at Westgate and Wm. Cannon is a hidden gem. Great food, drinks and once you walk in the whole interior vibe is very cool. Authentic Cuban cuisine done right.

A Politically Timely & Tasty Visit!

By imagemakerHouston |

With the rapidly changing political climate, I know you're itching to plan a trip to Cuba. Well hold on to your mojitos my friends, I found a short cut! Hop into a 57 Chevy taxi or Uber yourself over to Guantanmera where you will find some fabulous traditional Cuban dishes. Arriving on their patio you will hear the upbeat sounds of Salsa/Rumba/Mombo and if you stop dancing for a second you will notice a chalkboard with the specials of the day. If there were palm trees around you would swear you were in Miami's South Beach enjoying Florida's take on Cuban cuisine but wake up dude, you're in South Austin! We tried Ropa Vieja -a shredded beef slowly cooked in a tomato base sauce plus onions, bell peppers and "Cuban flavors" which served for our main dish and fried green Plantain discs served with mojo as a side (Mariquitas). Fantastic! This is a very small restaurant but with a very big heart and even bigger flavors. Our waitress was very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive, so the menu was explained in detail and our glasses were always full. The only thing missing was ending with a pure Habano cigar. Check it out!

Excellent Cuban Sandwich!

Have only been there once as I popped in to grab some lunch to take home - and was very impressed with their El Cubano sandwich. Will definitely drop in again and sample other items from their menu.

Disappointing

By Isladreams2010 |

Very excited to hear about this Cuban restaurant in Austin. Wish I hadn't gone. The Cuban tamal was tasteless. The ham croqueta was edible. The ropa vieja was so wrong, don't know where to begin. The black beans were watery and blah. The empanada with guava and cheese was the best thing I ate. And the Cuban coffee, was NOT Cuban coffee and couldn't finish it. They need to get a better cook and better recipes. While I was there, food delivery guy arrived (to deliver food) and I heard a staff member tell him he should have come to the back door, and to use the back door next time. Made me think not even the staff can eat the food at Guantanamera. I'm Cuban and what I was served tonight was not.

Wonderful Cubano!

By awooten43561 |

This place is so great! The service is wonderful every time we go, even during busy hours and the food is amazing! We had the beef empanadas and the Cubano sandwich and all were phenomenal. I highly recommend Guantanamera.

Good food, not good value

By Fernando D |

My wife and I had lunch this weekend at re austin512 restaurant. The pork sandwiches were delicious. However? The portions were excessively small. Both of us commented about the issue. We will not go back to the restaurant again.

Authentic

By teebee777 |

Give this restaurant a \ry. Good food and service. Small restaurant in a strip mall. I had the pollo fricase. Lots of food. The chicjen was flavorful and tender. The guacamole was fredhcabd swrved with fried plantains instead of chips. We tasted the empenadas and the tamale.

Take a vacation!

By GreenwoodTravels |

Travel to Cuba for the afternoon! This place has a Caribbean atmosphere, with great mural and wall decorations, and upbeat Latin music. The food is wonderfully tasteful and authentic! I had a salmon filet with mango salsa, and congri that was simply delicious. My daughters tried mariquitas and maduros for the first time. And, oh! the yuca! I had not had such expertly-fixed Cuban food in years! Even my mother was pleased with her Camarones al Ajillo - shrimp in wine and lime and garlic sauce. This is a new place to which we plan to return! I hope they keep up the great food!

Best cuban in South austin

By James P |

I'm very lucky to have had this place open very near my house around the time I moved in. Cuban cuisine is one of my favorites and this place doesn't disappoint. They have decent happy hour specials on drinks and appetizers. Try the pollo al horno sandwich, or the arroz con pollo. The hemingway with a dark rum is a can't miss cocktail.

Good Eats in Austin

Cuba 512 has been on our hot list for a while now. I was extremely excited to finally get a chance to stop in and see what all the fuss was about. We walked in and instantly received a wonderful smile along with a friendly greeting… we decided to sit in a booth near the window. It was a beautiful day. I was ready to enjoy the experience. I already had my menu planned out, but I caught an eye of the Cuban Flan, and I knew it was being added to the list immediately. While we enjoyed everything we ordered, my favorite was the El Cubano Sandwich and the Cuban Loaded Fries. Cuban sandwiches are one of my absolute favorites and this one did not disappoint. This sammy had two slices of pressed Cuban bread, stuffed with roasted pork, ham and Swiss cheese. If that doesn’t make your mouth salivate… I don’t know what does. Ha! I enjoyed every bite!!! I recommend ordering the Cuban Loaded Fries and the Guacamole as starters. To be honest with you it would make a nice lunch on its own. The Cuban Loaded fries are built with perfectly seasoned fries and piled high with mozzarella, guacamole, and your choice of meat. My plan was to try them and save room for everything else, but you know how that goes. I took one bite, then another, and another… then they were gone. Oops. As I said earlier, the Cuban Flan caught my eye, then it caught my fork, and it finally caught my mouth. There was not much to say, because my mouth was full. However, I think the smile on my face was worth a thousand words.. Lesson learned. Save room for dessert and coffee. Below are the menu items we enjoyed… Cuban Loaded Fries Cuban Tamal Guacamole Mariscada Cubana El Cubano Sandwich w/ Papas Fritas Flan

Perfect choice

Good servers, and very good food!!! It is a small restaurant, but it is genuine. The music is also very good.

Good Cuban good with a great drink menu

By Solutions123 |

Met friends for lunch. It’s located in a shopping center. There is alot of space for dining, bar and kids corner. They have a lunch and dinner menu. We ordered croquettes with pork, tostones rellano with beef and pork, all selections of their empanadas, ceviche, lechon asado, pollo fricase, black beans, yellow rice and maduras. The pork gave the croqueta flavor. It tasted like the base was made of yucca. I was not impressed with the tostones rellano. However I like the beef more than the pork. The lechon asado was delicious and moist. I love the yellow rice with black beans poured on top of it. The maduros was cut longer than I’m used to but the flavor was perfect. The pollo frisca was ok. I want to come back during happy hour and try the drinks. Very unique drinks with liquor that I love. Overall good Cuban food, excellent mix drinks and great service.

Nice supper.

Looking for a Cuban restaurant in Austin we found this. Nice restaurant, very spacious. The service was friendly. We had a lechón with congris and tostones and yuca. Everything was well prepared. The price was reasonable.

Love the vibe and the food!

By blahblaheck |

I have been here twice once with my family and once with a pal. The food is filling, the Cubans must like meat a lot. So I go when I need my Cuban sandwich or starchy side fix. Love the mixed drinks and the sexy vibe of the place. Best restaurant in a strip mall I ever been to.

Not really Authentic Cuban Flavor

By Gerald M |

I travel very frequently and love to visit different restaurant specially authentic ones Cuba 512 was a choice for me specially me being Cuban I order the Ropa Vieja with maduros and white rice and black beans the Cuban taste of sofrito bay leave and garlic along with Cuban favor spices was just not there in fact found the beans very blend and the ropa vieja salty almost order the Cuban sandwich but when for my favor needless to say it’s was disappointed. To any person who never try real Authentic Cuban food it may be ok but not for a real Cuban.

Try the Cuban flan!

By Cathryn C |

A Cuban-American friend and I had lunch at Guantanamera during a recent visit to Austin. It is one of her favorite restaurants and we enjoyed chatting with the Cuba-born owner. Lunch was yummy and on a whim I tried the Cuban flan for dessert. It is a must! Thicker and more flavorful than the flan you find in most other restaurants.

Wonderful Neighborhood Gem!

By DSNAustin |

Hiding in an ordinary neighborhood shopping center on West Gate is an extraordinary source for a wide range of delicious Cuban food choices. We had excellent cocktails-- a majito and a wonderful drink that I think they call a Hemingway tea-- and for dinner entrees the Arroz con Pollo a la Cubana (chicken, rice and olives with Cuban flavors) and Ropa Vieja (shredded beef dish with a tomato base and Cuban flavors). Dinner was terrific! The service was friendly and attentive. (Lorena was outstanding.) Call ahead for reservations or go at off-times, as during standard meal times they are crowded (more people are discovering this neighborhood gem...).

Save us seats.

By Nicsholidays |

Happy to have a Cuban restaurant that we can cycle to. It is in a strip mall as most are these days, but it is nicely tucked away from the road and has outside seating that we plan to take advantage of once the weather gets cooler. The menu and Décor convey TLC without being affected. We went for Saturday brunch but were informed we could order anything off of the menu. The accommodating waitress guided us through the whole menu and made recommendations that worked out nicely for us. The Lechon Asado & Chuletas al grill w/ Cuban mojo criollo & Maduros & Yua con Mojo &Café con leche and all were lovely. The Maduros & Yua con Mojo melt in your mouth. Well done Iskander! We look foward to returning for the Mojitos and Bloody Marys soon, and working our way through the menu this Autumn and winter.

First Timer

By rboykins71 |

First time trying this spot. They are currently doing to-go orders only. No Dine-In. I tried the Cuban Sandwich. This was very good. I will be back to try other items on the menu. The Service was great. The food was so good and not soggy. The fries were perfectly cooked.

I would bathe in that mojo sauce

By Caf80 |

1/2 veggie sandwich and side of fried plantains (mariquitas) with mojo sauce was perfect for a fairly quick lunch. Service at the bar was great -she kept me well stocked with Dr Pepper. (The mojo sauce is basically just oil & garlic, but ...yummm)

Simple & Delicious

By tony_in_san_jose |

I've been on a cuban food "trip" lately because of all the news about liberalizing travel to Cuba, so I decided to try this restaurant with some friends today. The tostones and empanadas for starters were excellent, but everyone at the table preferred the chicken empanadas over the beef. I had the Arroz con Pollo and was not disappointed -- it was simply prepared but contained all the requisite flavors! There was a good amount of chicken, but I personally would have preferred more olives. My friends ordered the lechon and the camarones al ajillo, and both were fantastic. The lechon serving was more than generous, but slightly on the salty side. As far as beverages, the mango daiquiri was mediocre but acceptable. The service was friendly, courteous and prompt. Although I wouldn't write home about this place, I would definitely come back.

Not for Me

By cokerbud |

I am being very generous here. Nice people, entertaining singer doing her best, but driving 25 minutes in Austin to visit fell short to say the least. They can do yellow rice and black beans but the plantains were this cooked days ago cold hard thing and the pork chops were somewhere between shoe leather and eating beef jerky. Maybe this would be a yummy meal in Cuba during the JFK era but I have eaten a fair amount of Cuban food and have to say this was not what my mind was prepared to eat.

Best Cuban Restaurant in Austin

The best Cuban Restaurant in South Austin, friendly atmosphere, a great service and the best of all, the food, absolutely delicious!

Tasty Cuban food!

By Claudia C |

Nice place to taste some real Cuban food. Ropa vieja and lechón asado are the specialties of the house and quite good. But make sure you stop at the bar to have a delicious mojito or, my favorite (which I discovered here)... the Hemingway: the perfect mix of Zacapa rum, lemon and syrup.

Had dinner and drinks with a friend

By chrisq502018 |

The food was excellent and the Hemingway drinks were incredible. The atmosphere was perfect. I'm pretty sure that I will be a regular here. i highly recommend it.

Struggled with 3 stars

By WDR0617 |

Not Cuban but really enjoy Cuban food in Miami and a few Cuban eateries in NYC. This is right beside my gym, finely stopped in. The food, from my prospective was just ok. I’ll try it one more time in case it just wasn’t a good night in the kitchen.

Lovely Service

By Mohibul Haque |

Whilst my two friends were visiting the Government Building (yawn), I decided to go for a drink. I stumbled upon a really kool place called Cuba512. I was seen to by a server called Corine and then looked after by Ivory. Both provided me with excellent service and ensured I had a wonderful time whilst waiting for my mates. The boss was there too and we had a nice conversation about his history. I didn't try the grub as I had already eaten. Wish I had though as it looked amazing. Maybe another time.

Go Hungry

By Dennis R |

This restaurant is worth a try. We were in the area and did a google search for restaurants near by and Cuba512 came up. We found out they had recently expanded so the restaurant is a good size (looks small from the outside) Wait staff was attentive and explains some of the dishes. We had Ceviche as appetizer Drinks" La Palma" and Mojito both good. For dinner we ordered "Ropa Vieja" and "Lechon Asada" (I think) both simple plates Rice meat and beans, but tasty. One issue was the booth seats were uncomfortable. Sit at a table.

Delicious food

By Angiemf33 |

This place has great authentic Cuban food. I've tried the Ropa Vieja, Lechon Asado, pollo fricase, and almost ALL the appetizers and they are all so delicious! Their sangria is also highly recommended. It's a small area and can get packed during peek hours so get there early. They also have a small patio area which is very cute. The only downfall is that they only have one bathroom.

Lunch time vist

By Bill S |

We stopped in after walking around the capital bldg. I ordered a cuban sandwich and my wife ordered anther sandwich only to find they took it off the menu a few days earlier but didn't update the menu. She grabbed a 1/2 cuban. Our sandwiches were tasty and good portions. We would go back.

A real hidden gem worth the trip

By lbhorton1953 |

Went with my son on Saturday before Father's day. Neither of us have had Cuban before so it was quite the treat. We went during the middle of the afternoon just missing their weekend brunch. The restaurant only had a few customers and the waitress met us quickly and seated us. She took our drink order and left us to study the menu. I chose camarones ajillo , a spicy shrimp dish. My son chose a chicken dish with ham in it. You have a choice of two sides and a choice of different type of beans. We both chose the Cuban spicey rice. I choose French fries. We shared a chicken empanada. When the waitress returned to take our order she asked if we needed anything explained but the menu was clear. The food came in short order and wow it was good. Everything was nicely spiced with wonderful flavors. The food was hot and the portions generous. The empanda was large and stuffed with a flavorful chicken and served with a wonderfully spicy sauce for dipping. We weren't rushed since it was down time and the waitress took our picture to mark the day. All in all I could not have had a better day or meal. A real hidden gem that is worth the time to visit.

Night out

By Kenneth K |

Food was ok ... ordered veggie cuban sandwich and was kinda bland. We also ordered seafood paella which was kinda dry. The atmosphere was authentic cuban. The waiter made us feel rushed, we asked if there was live music in the area and he replied "oh I don't live in THIS area" ?

Great Cuban food

By Bob Y |

My wife is Cuban, so we are pretty picky about Cuban food. Cuba512 nails it. It is as good as my mother-in-law’s cooking. Everything on the menu is good so pick a dish with whichever is your favorite meat...chicken, pork, etc. I love that you can get bananas 3 ways...chips (mariquitos), sweet (Maduros) or salty (tostones) and they are all good. Large portions, so a very good value as well.

Lunch Near Texas State Capital

By aushiker2015 |

The Cubana sandwich is excellent. The full sandwich is like two normal-size sandwiches. Get the combo 1/2 sandwich and side. I like the plantains for sides. Either the plantain chips or the sweet plantains.

Awesome Cuban Restaurant

By MPH200 |

We have been looking for a good Cuban restaurant for some time. A friend advised us to try Guantanamera. Excellent choice. The pulled pork was very tender & juicy. The rice & black beans had great flavor. The flan was a great ending to a wonderful meal. I had a rum drink called a Hemingway - it was excellent. The owner was there & he was very friendly & helpful. Our server was great, she was very informative & helpful. I advise everyone to give this place a try. Lechon Asado Most traditional Cuban dish. Pulled pork marinated - $13.50 with Cuban mojo criollo & slowly oven roasted. Ropa Vieja Shredded Beef slowly cooked in a tomato base sauce + - $13.50 onions + bell peppers & Cuban flavors. SIDES Maduros / Tostones / Mariquitas / French Fries /Yuca con Mojo / Boniato Frito / Small Salad

Disappointing

By RiverRat68 |

Pretty good value for money but I've had much better Cuban cuisine. Maybe it was because it was a Monday evening, or the large party next to me exhausted the chef and waitstaff but it was just not that impressive and not what I expected. The menu is extensive and there's a good cocktail and beer offering ... something was just ... lacking ...

Mediocre Service, Mediocre Food

By Nicole_Gus_2010 |

This restaurant had been highly recommended to us so we made a special trip in on a Sunday for late lunch. We stopped in around 1:15 and they weren't very busy but there were a lot of dirty tables in the upstairs part so we were seated in the downstairs part which was kind of cut off from the rest of the action. When we first walked in we did not see a hostess so we walked around a bit and a server called from behind the bar "We'll be right with you", and another busy huffy server led us to a table downstairs. Not a fan of that area downstairs. When asked how he was doing, he replied hastily... "Busy." Great...not a good impression so far but we decided to give it a shot. We sat for 5 minutes and the original server from behind the bar waited on us with very few words and short responses. We almost walked out but decided that it looked like they had just had a busy lunch run and everyone was still stressed. The other server who originally sat us checked on us and he was finally calmer and nicer; (wish we had him) our server was still a bit grumpy. A third server showed up for the shift and the overall mood lightened but by then the damage was done. When our food finally came, my husband's was just warm. The rice and beans were cold. We caught our server and asked him if we could heat the dish up and without a word, he scooped the plate up and took it to the back. When he returned 5 min later, he dramatically placed it on the table (with bare hands) and said, "careful, hot plate!" Geez. I had the famous Cuban Sandwich (meh) with Papas Fritas (gasp--aka Ore Ida crinkle fries) and husband had the lukewarm Ropa Vieja (so-so) with cold rice and beans and sweet potato fries. Finally at the end of the meal the server tried to make jokes and called me "sweetie" (ugh) I had a glass of sangria and husband had a beer so our lunch cost $46 with tip - ouch! All in all, disappointed at food mostly because service can vary based on time of day, etc. Not willing to give it another chance at this point, sorry!

I'm not Cuban, but I enjoyed the food

By Carol B |

My husband and I dined at Cuba512 for a second time. This is a small restaurant in a strip center, but there was plenty of room inside. The waiter was very attentive and was able to answer all our questions about the menu item. My husband had the churrasco and I had masas fritas. We both had black beans and I chose sweet potato fries for my side. The food was fine, but did not have that extra something to make it memorable.

Relaxing dinner with friends

By Wanda Blankeship Montemayor |

Great mojitos . Great Empanadas and ceviche was fresh . The appetizers and drinks were spot on. Chicken fricassee was a bit dry as was the pork bites that are fried. I wish I just had appetizers for dinner.

Perfect Place. Real cuban food with a real Cuban owner. Nos encanta el lugar.

By Cesar G |

I had the opportunity to meet the owner. He is a real cuban guy with incredible experiences. It was awsome¡¡¡ THANK YOU VERY MUCH, we will come back FOR SURE¡¡¡ Impresionante conocer su historia. GRACIAS DE VERAS¡¡¡

i Love Cuban Food

By Danny B |

Being a native New Yorker in Texas i have to try any place that has cuban food. Lets just say this i will go back just for the croquettes alone. TRY THEM!

Now called Cuba512

By Carol B |

This was our first tasted of Cuban food and we enjoyed it! We got there during happy hour when some appetizers and drinks were discounted. I had two appetizers - chicken wings (6 to a plate) and tropical ceviche (served with fried plantains) and house salad. My husband had Masas Fritas served with black bean rice with wine to drink. Our bill came to just under $40. We enjoyed it and hope to come back.

Good in many ways. Deficient in some.

By DiskOrDisc |

The menu is large and almost everything is gluten free. There are many Cuban dishes that have good flavor. We had a steak and some pulled pork. I also had a ceviche appetizer, which was great. There were large parties that just arrived, and expected the restaurant to accommodate 8-12 people, so service slowed a bit. The Iron Beer and other Cuban soft drinks are worth trying. The staff was very nice and knowledgeable about their menu. The fryer oil was not clean. It is possible to taste other dishes that have been fried in the same soy oil in the same fryer. Therefor, our tostones didn't taste very good. I recommend you try it with an open mind. You will get good courteous service and if you are a bit adventurous you will find some very good food. We will go back again.

Best Cubano sandwich ever!

By Gerry G |

My first trip to this small cafe in a shopping strip off William Cannon and Westgate Blvd (this is also a location downtown) was a winner. Their Cubano sandwich was the best I have ever had! I ordered the half sandwich and side and the sandwich was huge. I can't imagine trying to eat a whole one for lunch. It was flavorful and juicy with tender pork, paper thin ham, crisp pickles and just the right combination of mustard and cheese on pan toasted bread. The papas fritas were nothing special but the side salad was basic with fresh lettuce, cucumbers and tomato slices. Next time I can more than make do with just the salad and half sandwich. What a delightful lunch!

Same Place Different Name?

By MPH200 |

It used to be Guatanamera, now they are Cuba512? Everything is the same except the name & the prices went up. it looks like $1.50 on some entrees. The food is good. Service is usually good, though we have had issues when they were busy. Lechon Asado & Ropa Viejo are both very good.

Cuban Sandwich

By pjcrn15 |

We had a very good experience at this restaurant. The food definitely has authentic cuban flavor. Very nice ambiance. It feels like I'm in one of the fast and furious movies. Definitely will go back again. Aeris was an awesome server.

Bar View :)

By Nana M |

We just came home from this amazing restaurant. We recently moved to Austin, and in our search for food we enter to Cuba 512 and loved it. If you are from the Caribbean you will feel at home eating in a buen Cafetin. The food is real Cuban home food, black beans guisadas, yellow rice with flavor a real plantain tostones! Outstanding service, ill be back!

Hidden gem.

By TravelingGrrlRock |

The portions are large, and this restaurant is in a shopping center, so it is very easy to miss. I would recommend it to anyone wanting some Cuban food.

Food Good, Waitpeople Slow

By Elizabeth W |

My husband and I were here last night 1/20/16. The food as always was spectacular. Unfortunately, the restaurant may end up putting itself out of business due to the inattentive waitstaff. The lady took our order. There drinks were good. She forgot to tell the cook about our appetizers which were Beef Empanadas. The Paella that we split arrived in 20 minutes as was explained. No Empanadas until she remembered that we ordered. The seafood Paella was great. We were the only souls in the restaurant until 45 minutes later when two other parties arrived to eat dinner.

Riquísimo y más

By HLVS1968 |

El lechón asado was so tender and well seasoned. I was there with 5 more friends and we were all impressed with the food and service.

Not too bad.

By FranzenRN |

First time eating here, we grabbed some food to-go. I checked it out online, it was highly rated so I was expecting this food to be amazing. Well, it wasn't. The ropa vieja was flavorful and quite good..but that's about it. The rice was just plain rice, nothing special, the sweet potato fries honestly tasted like they had previously been frozen. We had an appetizer with pork inside a deep fried tostone- the pork had no taste whatsoever and it was dripping in oil. My husband had the sandwich (media noche) and it was absolutely delicious! So overall it wasn't too bad but for what we paid (over $130 for just a few meals) I was expecting so much more. If we eat here again, I will definitely get the media noche sandwich.

Growing pains

By GC50MH56 |

Four of us went here for dinner. Two of us arrived early and waited and waited while we watched the waitstaff visit with each other and completely ignore us. We finally got their attention and ordered drinks and appetizers. The appetizers had no flavor whatsoever. We all ordered different entrees, and I had the pulled pork dinner. While very tasty, there was too much salt in the meat. Someone needs to break the chef's arm when he grabs for the salt shaker, although in fairness, we've noticed too many restaurants salting their food. Service was spotty, with us having to constantly ask for water refills. In all, not a bad place to eat, but they really need to work on the service and some food dishes.

Delicious, authentic food and warm service

By 112bouree |

This place is so good I went twice in one week! Guantanamera is always busy because the food is fantastic and reasonably priced. Juices and rum-based drinks are solid, I love the chicken empanada appetizer, and I've tried fish, chicken and pork dishes that were flavorful and made me feel like I was in (a generous) someone's home. I've already recommended this place to multiple friends; I think it's going to be the place I take new kids in town.

Good Cuban food

By Diablu1 |

Went there for lunch. Good atmosphere. Service was good. We ordered different meals. The Cuban sandwich was very good. The Salmon was also very good. The Ropa Vieja was excellent. Tostones were also good. Fried yuca was also good, if I had any negative, it's that we did not have sufficient yucas!. Overall price was not expensive. Great meals to be had!

Cuban Food at its Best!

By Njoytravl |

From the Mojito, to the fried Tilapia, Media Noche sandwich, and the Black Bean soup, it was all delicious!! The host who greeted us was very friendly, and our waitress was extremely attentive. We will definitely be back!

Filling

By RWG2020 |

Id heard a lot about this restaurant with two locations. I ate at the downtown location on Congress. I had the Cuban Sandwich with Black Beans for lunch. It was a large serving and very filling. The sandwich was very good except for the fact that it had too much mustard which overpowered the pork and cheese flavors. Very comforting and pleasant experience

Cuban Cuisine

By Robert K |

Authentic Cuban cuisine at a reasonable price. Went for lunch and ordered stuffed zucchini (vegetarian choice) and it was really very good! Accompanied by plantain chips and rice with beans made the dish a great choice!

PORK IS GREAT

By Andrew |

I chose the pork asado and I don't regret it. The portions are generous and its nice clean eats. Location was the congress location though.

Lunch Savers!

By GabrielV. |

A nice lunch that saved my day after walking around in the heat and finding almost every single place closed at nearly 2pm. Immediate table sitting, great service and good food! Some items were not really part of the cuban cuisine, like guacamole or tamales, but don’t miss out on them because they were still pretty amazing. Our waitress was genuine and knew exactly what to recommend. My Cuban Sandwich was so good that I had my left overs for breakfast next morning. All I was missing was someone speaking with a cuban accent, but from start to finish it was GOOD!

Delicious and good service

By Wendy M |

We visited this restaurant using travel advisor as our guide, granddaughter and her boyfriend my husband and our grandson last evening. Even though it was fairly crowded we were seated immediately and our drinks came fairly quickly. We ordered mostly pork dinners and two orders of oxtail. All were excellent except slightly too salty. The plantains were great, as was the Flawn and especially the rice pudding. Our grandsons porkchops came out with a ton of onions, which he did not want, so we all shared his. Make sure you take advantage of the "sides" and order the onions. The white rice and beans were great
