Excellent Peruvian

By Licey7 |

CABRA is an excellent Peruvian food restaurant, kind of noisy, is just beside a very noisy bar with walls. If you are a Ceviche lover, this is the place!

A true gem of a restaurant!

By RML1 |

Ms Izzard does it again! This rooftop place features Peruvian food served in "sharing portions" My wife and I ordered 6 and were very content. The ceviche is the best I've had in Chicago. Make reservations far in advance or walk in 5ish.

Between a 3 and 4 Rating - Good

By kzogger |

My friends and I tried the chicken (Aji de Gallina) and veggie (Swiss Chard & Huevo) empanadas (2 per order), which were both good (though I preferred the veggie). The papas huancaina were pretty good (although I would have preferred less huancaina sauce). I also enjoyed the Skirt Saltado (served with tomatoes, potatoes, greens). My friends liked the chicharron (rather big). I didn't try it, but the sweet potato flatbread and sauces that came with it were tasty. Service was okay...they ran out of the chicken empanadas while we were there. Great views of the city from most tables.

Cool restaurant to visit in Chicago - great food and drinks

By nicole t |

Great restaurant with yummy food and a great range of drinks as well as a great view. Very busy for mid week - worth booking in advance!

Disappointing

By Travellersviews |

Disengaged, disinterested and bored staff. No one overseeing the restaurant. In Chicago for the day and decided to have brunch there and try out another restaurant from the same stable as Duck Duck Go. Food excellent as one would expect but the service really let it down. Wish we had gone with DDG.

Good but too expensive for what it is

By bduperrin |

The welcome is quite impersonal and the room very dark and noisy. You have to use your phone's flashlight to read the menu.... I am taken care of by a rather friendly waitress. I will start with the Classic ceviche then, as a main course, will have the Steak saltado. Overall it was good but the portions were small, especially the ceviche. I will therefore have a second starter to finish my meal: a duck ceviche which will also be good. When ordering dessert the waitress comes to me and says "the bill..." ....well if that's how I accept and will not have coffee or dessert. It's good but the setting isn't exceptional and at over 100 dollars (without the service) it's clearly too expensive for what it is.

Excellent rooftop dining experience

By travelingmama04 |

From the cocktails to the final course- this was a most pleasant dining experience. We visited from Greenville, SC to take our Daughter and son in law out for a special meal, and we were not disappointed. The atmosphere of Cabra feels like a vacation in the middle of the city! The wait staff were knowledgeable and attentive, and provided excellent recommendations for the menu selections as well as the quantity of food for our table to order and share together. We are quite fond of traditional Peruvian food and we’re excited to taste the unique twist of flavors, colors, and textures the Chef presented on our plates. There was not a single dish we did not savor and devour (and talk about for weeks following) This is a dining experience for the senses and I highly recommend!

Amazing venue/good fish/average empanadas

By Yuan Z |

I went there about a month ago with my girlfriend during their midday so I did not get to experience the full menu. The venue (located inside the Hoxton Hotel) is amazing with a pool alongside the restaurant. The atmosphere was bustling and relatively young/energetic when we visited. The service was also friendly and timely. We ordered a ceviche and a couple of tiradito plates as well as an order of empanadas. The flavors for the ceviche/tiradito was all there and quite enjoyable but the empanadas was average at best. The only thing I found memorable about them was to let you know that they were not memorable (so I guess in that way they were). Overall it was Pleasant midday lunch but as mentioned I did not get to experience the full menu so cannot comment further.

Amazing rooftop

By Julia Plieva |

This place has different level. The ground one is for luxury lounge, drink and even negotiation. The next level is the restaurant itself with great cuisine. We've been spending amazing time on a rooftop with a gorgeous view of nigh Chicago and a full moon. It is definitely cool place as for romance dinner as for good friends! It was recommended by beautiful friend who is living in Chicago and has a great taste!

Stephanie Izard Has Another Hit On Her Hands!

By Diane K |

There were four of us for dinner on a Tuesday night. We had reservations and were seated as soon as our entire party showed up. Our server was very pleasant and helpful with her recommendations. We ordered the Hirame which had great flavor but was a very small portion; the Hamachi was a special that night and it was delicious. We also had the Beef Heart which was very good and the perfect sized portion for the four of us. The Smoked Goat Empanadas were tasty but the concensus from the table was that it needed more filling and less crust. The table favorite was the Chicharron del Puerco which was absolutely delicious. For dessert, we had the Sweet Potato Donuts which was the perfect ending to a great meal. Definitely will be back as the food and service made for an excellent dining experience.

Fun restaurant!

By drdotbrown |

I had dinner here on Friday with my family and friends. The waitress was delightful and gave us recommendations on amount of food for our party. She was spot on. Food and cocktails were delicious. Great vibe!

Phenomenal!

By Tim B |

The experience from the time we walked in to the time left was fantastic! Alex, our server guided us through the evening with exceptional recommendations. We tasted all of the Ceviches along with tasty dishes,Alex brought to the table paired with nice wine. The last man course was the Pork (absolutely delicious). We finished the evening with desserts brought to the table( ice cream, strawberry short cake , some chocolate dishes. Everything was incredible! Each dish was a work of art!

Great Peruvian food in Chicago

By sunilt1960 |

The overall experience was enjoyable, and the restaurant draws inspiration from Chef Stephanie Izard. The place has a great ambiance, especially during the day, with a modern vibe. Cabra offers a good selection of Peruvian dishes, though the portion sizes tend to be small. Some of our favorites were the Aji de Gallina Empanadas, Tuna Tataki, Skirt Saltado, and Chicharro Pork Shank. While some dishes are quite limited in quantity, others are more generously portioned. We also explored their Peruvian drink offerings, including Cusqueña Peruvian Lager and Modelo beer. For cocktails, we tried the "Return of Saturn" and "Almost Famous," both of which were excellent. The food, service, and views were all commendable. We went there for the wedding anniversary of daughter. The restaurant offers seating on both the ground and first floors. If visiting during the day, I’d recommend sitting on the first floor to make the most of the ambiance. However, the quirky décor featuring undergarments displayed on the walls near the elevator was a bit unusual.

great peruvian

By kenny h |

excellent meal great food from the chef of girl and the goat Definitely highly recommend the sunday brunch greta service

SO GOOD

By rebeccaquam |

We loved Cabra! Between the two of us, we ordered 4 small plates and 1 dessert, probably could have done 3 dishes and had enough food. You have to try the goat empanadas and mango soft serve! SO GOOD

Good rooftop, overrated dining

By scootsmel |

A little bit of a let down based on hoxton standards. Two side rooftop areas to sit for drinks but the main dining area and bar is crowded, loud and lacks the views expected of a roof top experience. Menu was confusing unless you are already all over Peruvian fare and South American cuisine. Ok for a drink but I would suggest going to one of the surrounding restaurants to dine which have better service and a better menu for the price.

Food with a view

By Narek D |

Let's start from the things they do well. BEAUTIFUL rooftop, and unlike many places that just take advantage of a higher floor, they actually invested in their place (a pool in the middle of the restaurant? Sign me up please). Great main dishes - both arroz con pollo and chicharrón are delicious. Now to the negatives. The appetizers are a pure rip off - it should be illegal to charge that much for so little. The tables anywhere outside of the main patio rooftop area don't have much of a view, so make a reservation well in advance. The neighborhood is quite weird - a lot of great restaurants, but downright ugly and run down.

Improve the service please!

By chicagoMLM |

I loved Cabra for the food, ambience and location to show off Chicago to one of my favorite former co-workers who is now a Google lead visiting from San Francisco. Unfortunately, the service was really poor which is symptomatic of many restaurants now. Our reservation was on a Monday. The hostess was super nice and accommodating with outdoor seating. We had a beer at the pool bar prior to seating. The area was dirty and not cleaned up from previous guests. The bartender also had an attitude. Sigh. The worst was the waiter who passed our table several times after initial drinks. Keep in mind we had a lot to catch up on with each other so time was not an issue. However, it was really long and I was a bit embarrassed as I was showcasing our city to an out-of-town friend who has influence with her company nearby. Fabulous food and ambience but please do better Cabra! https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g35805-d17168598-r843940074-Cabra-Chicago_Illinois.html#

Enjoyable meal in a colorful space

By brmusicman |

I'm a big fan of Stephanie Izard and her restaurants, especially Duck Duck Goat and Girl and the Goat. So, it was with a great sense of anticipation that I headed (with friends) to her newest restaurant, Cabra, which is located on the rooftop of the West Loop's Hoxton hotel. It's a new focus for her--Peruvian food. Enjoyed the atmosphere; it's colorful and vibrant, and the views of the city are superb. That said, the Hoxton is a bit of a 'scene' and that certainly extended (though to a lesser extent than the lobby) to this restaurant. Thankfully, the service was still in-line with what I've come to expect form Izard's restaurant: casual, down-to-earth, attentive, knowledgeable. Fun menu. There's a number of different ceviches, and we enjoyed trying a variety--the snapper was my favorite. It was cool that they had distinct flavors despite all being ceviches. There's also a nice variety of snacks; the yuca fritas were delicious. There was a smaller selection of main plates. Overall, it's definitely a great place to share. Overall, food was well-executed and tasty, but everyone at our table agreed that it was less impressive that some of Izard's other spots--not really a criticism, since her other spots offer so many memorable, crave-worthy dishes. Would certainly return!

Is ok for one time

By Elbamaritza V |

The food has the “flavor” of Peruvian food but It is NOT a peruvian cuisine. This is international food with peruvian accents, lets be clear on that, Ambience is ok, roof top sees old meat marker which is not the best skyline of the city Price is very high for the not small but tiny portions you are getting Very difficult parking around With all the “buts” above I still enjoy some dishes like ceviche and tuna tiraditas; however most likely NOT coming back.

AMAZING!

By Lucienne T |

Absolutely amazing experience! This place has it all, great ambience, great food, and great cocktails. The service was phenomenal. Me and my friends ordered the chorizo and queso dip, aswell as the chicken., recommend both dishes. If you are lucky enough to get a table this is the perfect place for dinner at a fun/party environment! Plus: they have a dj!

Excellent Peruvian food!!

By janhad |

Everything we ate here was delicious. We had the goat empanadas, black plantain waffles, crab with potatoes and avocado, fruit ceviche, sweet potato donuts and the soft serve swirl. We ate every bit of everything. Can’t wait to go back and try other delicious food.

Trendy decor, loud and more bar like than fine dining

By Gary T |

We visited on a Thursday night with a reservation. The first things we noticed were how dark it was and how loud the music was. Its a bar environment not a fine dining environment. The interior is quite trendy. We were three and tried 6 dishes. Ill comment on each below: Avocado Dip - Quite good and served with two types of chips. The dish is small and at $13 is an okay value. Salmon Ceviche - Two of us found it okay, the third was a "don't like it". Again this dish is quite small and at $16 is a poor value. Snapper Ceviche - Again, two of us found it okay and one was a "don't like it". This is another very small dish which is over priced at $17. Goat Empanadas - we ordered 1.5 orders since an order is two and we were three. We all found this dish to be delicious. At $21 for the three it is an extremely poor value. Shrimp Tacu Tacu - Shrimp over quinoa in a sauce that none of us found appetizing. As a plate it was larger than the other dishes. At $22 it is not as poor a value as the other dishes. Skirt Saltado - This dish is stir fried Flank Steak, with tomato, onion, bell pepper and some cubes of deep fried potato. Only two of us tried it and we both liked it. The dish was a main so it was larger than the other dishes. oddly enough, there was very little steak in the dish. At $22 with that little protein I don't think I'd order it again. At best the food here is average and quite over priced. The loud, dark environment doesn't do the place justice, it might be different at lunch.

Not just dinner, but a dining experience

By tharp10 |

We LOVED our meal at Cabra! The wait staff was great in making recommendations on number of dishes and type of dishes to order. We had a ceviche, two types of empanadas, and the crab dish. I would order all of them again!!! We finished off with the sweet potatoes donuts, which was a perfect ending. The rooftop ambiance was perfect and lovely! From the same chef owner as Girl and the Goat and other fabulous restaurants, they provide dining experiences, not just dinner. I’m a big fan.

Next level

By Kelly R |

Our meal was absolutely perfect. The chef has taken traditional Peruvian dishes and altered them to elevate them. And we loved each and everyone. Especially amazing were the crab causa and the chicharron pork shank.

A taste of Peru without the Guinea pig

By Michael K |

A joke. In Peru Guinea pig is ubiquitous. Fabulous setting and view. Wonderful and attentive waitstaff. Imaginative food. The red wine from Peru was OK, but go for another. Chorizo skewers and goat empanadas we’re out of this world.

Worth the visit!

By Wanderlust7700 |

Food & drinks were amazing. The salmon ceviche so good that I ordered it twice. The pork shank was very tender, it could be picked with a fork, no knife necessary. Excellent array of complimentary flavors. Drinks were craft and did not disappoint. Would definitely recommend eating here! Can’t wait to go again.

Unique, fun vibe, outdoors or in!

By Bobbie W |

The atmosphere is fun and unique. They have an outdoor terrace, which has the best seats in the restaurant. It’s covered overhead with glass on the sides. There’s a DJ playing music where you first enter the restaurant. There’s an indoor as well as an outdoor (on the patio, off the terrace) pool, that’s lit up at night. Food is unique. We got 5 dishes for the 3 of us which we couldn’t finish all that we ordered. Most of the dishes are small but some were plentiful. The shrimp ceviche was very good, which afforded each of us to have a few bites each. We also ordered the duck salad which we all enjoyed. Then we enjoyed the shrimp and calamari dish, which was nice. We also got the string beans, which had a peanut sauce, I thought a bit heavy but plentiful. Our last dish was the pork shank, which came with delicious seasoned pita and several different sauces. This was good and quite plentiful. We had left over pork and string beans which is enough for our son to have another meal from left overs. Alcoholic drinks are very expensive, but popular. The bar was extremely busy. Restaurant was packed and reservations a must.

Great food and views but service was very slow and drinks were sub par

By Muppetsarecool |

Came on a Sunday night and it was very busy but we had reservations. I had the shrimp tacu tacu and my friend had the beef saltado and both dishes were very tasty. The drinks were a huge let down. The pisco sour just didn’t taste good. Very below average. My friend had a margarita and she said the same about her drink. They brought the margarita over with no salt on the rim. She asked for salt and waited 15-20 minutes before our server brought any to her. Overall, we had a lovely time and would go back but not order any drinks.

Shocking

By Mickey Commar |

I went with my family to Cabra. The waitress was really good, excellent meal and a nice atmosphere. I have been told that The biggest attraction of this roof top restaurant is the roof top pool and the area around it. After finishing the meal, I went to towards the pool area which was blocked to enter as it was post 11 pm. I stood at the entrance literally for 10 seconds and an African American guard, came yelling at me saying I cannot stand at the entrance as I am disturbing the guest! Really! I did not ask to enter the pool area, I was not rude and did not disturb anyone. He said Sir, if you don’t move, I will call the call cops. I told him call the cops ! Obviously he did not have the courage to call the cops. This is a classic case of minority harassment! I have complained to the Front desk manager, who was kind and sympathetic ! Don’t Destroy the culture of a great place by having immature, young folks who think by controlling a gate to enter a pool area they are superior to you !

Birthday Meal

By vasvas55 |

Having traveled extensively in Peru my comparisons were tainted. Starting from the pisco sour which was under par, not shaken well, not alcoholic enough ... something was missing. The classic Ceviche was just not tasty. Again it was missing something plus it was a relatively small portion. Essentially very pricey for what was on offer.

Bet that Cabra Will be one of Chicago,s hottest tables

By Phayao13 |

Culinary influences from Peru, parts of Asia, definetly a tasty experience. The menu can be confusing for customers not familiar with the Peruvian kitchen, but servers are trained to guide you. Love the open air space. Rooftop bar included.

Cool Venue, Disappointing Food

By Dave |

We made reservations a month in advance and were looking forward to visiting this very happening restaurant. Our server was just fair, but to our surprise given the reputation of the chef (Stephanie Izard), the operator (Boka) and the overall hype, the food was extremely mediocre. This is an extremely highly regarded restaurant group, but they clearly phoned it in on Cabra. I’m glad we tried it and will not be returning anytime soon.

Wonderful Atmosphere, Food and Service. But Value? Not So Much

By OnTheRoadAgain26 |

The early Tripadvisor reviewers seem to be overly harsh in their reviews of Cabra. You need to understand what Cabra is and isn't. It is (a) a lively rooftop restaurant run by one of the hottest chefs in the city with great open cityscape views in Chicago's hottest restaurant and bar district, (b) a great place to see and be seen for 30 and 40-year-olds who like that scene and great food and drinks, and are willing to pay for it. The food, service and people watching are outstanding. It is not a value-oriented restaurant or a restaurant that serves strictly traditional Peruvian food. Cabra serves its wonderful versions of Peruvian classics, including top drawer pisco sour and other drinks. If you want fantastic Peruvian food, can forgo the views and rooftop ambiance, and want a top-notch better-value proposition with a lively bar scene, try Tanta in River North. Both of these restaurants are superb, but personal tastes will differ.

Good food, poor service

By Kalin L |

Food was pretty good but service was poor. We made our reservations a month in advance, and when asked if we were celebrating anything, I mentioned we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. When we got there, the hostess showed us to our table, which was four feet away from the hostess stand near a heavy traffic area. After five minutes of no one approaching the table, we asked if we could be seated elsewhere and was told it would be 30 more minutes. We decided to stay at our current table. Meanwhile, another couple without a reservation, waited ten minutes right next to our table (yes bc we could hear their conversation we were so close to the hostess table) and they were seated at a window table with a beautiful view. Our server, finally came to our table after waiting probably ten minutes, and we could barely hear him. We had to ask him to walk through the menu with us and share suggestions. The rest of the meal was similar - the drinks took a long time to come out. We were charged for a dish that never made it to our table. Overall, food was good, but disappointing front of the house and service staff.

City views with great atmosphere and unique tapas type offerings.

By Cheryl N |

Unique and delicious food, beautiful city view, thoughtful service, awesome music playing. Big bar with unique cocktail options. A bit pricey for the portion sizes, however.

Meh..

By Peter T |

First the good: Food was ok. Ceviche was made well though it could've benefited from a bit more salt and spiciness. Papa a la huancaina was good. Pisco Sours were ok as well For the rest: Service: It felt like the server wanted to be anywhere but there today. He did not ask once of we were satisfied with the seating location (we weren't, but even tho we made reservations our seating area was bad. We were seated facing a pole*) the server did not ask if we were satisfied with the food, or anything at all. The only time he mentioned if things were ok was at the end when we were leaving and the tip reflected the service. Value for food: Not even close to be worth what they charged for the food. Food was ok but not worth the price. There's much better food at better locations then this place. Re: seating location. We made reservations in advance. When we got to the restaurant it was not busy but we were offered seats on these couch like style seats that, for me, is a horrible way to eat a meal. I asked to sit at a different table and we were moved to a location facing a pole. This restaurant has great views and to be offered a seat facing the pole and the second view of the kitchen, that's just craziness. And it was not busy or crowded, there were better seats available. Overall the location and view is nice but not for the price they are charging. Def not worth it.

Totally yummy!

some of the most unusual dishes with tastes that explode in your mouth! be sure to try the jaleo mixto and the tuna tartare....loved the crunch quinoa

Tapas & Cocktails

By Clay H |

Cabra is a good tapas restaurant! The restaurant had a ton of great, natural light, with a lot of plants. The food was good, despite personally not having a preference for tapas dishes. The drinks and overall service, however, were really good! I’m glad we visited and experienced it. If you are a fan of tapas you will love this restaurant. We did make a reservation.

An absolute must for private events!

By Nicole L |

If you're debating having your event at Cabra, DON'T! We did a full buyout of the space and 175 guests for a corporate event in June 2023 and I wish we could do it again and again! Our guest were truly blown away with the beautiful space, the sweeping views of the Chicago skyline, and the level of service and attention to detail we received all night! Planning I had the pleasure of working with Missy Clarin to plan our event and she was the best! She was extremely organized, gave me ample information to plan from across the country, and scheduled a tasting when I was in town. Missy worked seamlessly with the rest of the staff and a management at Cabra to ensure our guests had a fantastic time. Food & Beverage Chef Kenny was seriously the best! When we did my tasting he made sure to discuss not only the ingredients and presentation of the dishes but the vessels each appetizer was going to be served in. Him and the FOH team worked to make sustainability a big focus for us as it reflects our values as an organization. His team also worked hard to provide a wide variety of appetizers with different flavors so that over a 6 hours event no one was sick of the food. A HUGE thank you to Chef and his dedicated staff! The bar staff was a delight to work with, our guests are drinkers so they had their work cut out for them. Not only were the cocktails delicious but there was rarely a wait to be served. A++++! Day Of We really had the dream team the day of the event! Morgan was our in house Manager and not only was she completely on top of the timeline all evening but she checked in with me numerous times to let me know what was happening. She even made sure I ate which rarely happens ;) I want to shout out Morgan for a service step where she really went above and beyond to care for our guests. Two of our clients had just come from dinner where someone, unbeknownst to them, drenched their jackets in a very sticky sauce. They didn't realize this until they were almost to our event and Morgan and her team took action right away. I asked if there was any way in heck we could get these items dry cleaned for the clients and Morgan worked with The Hoxton staff to arrange the request within an hour. The items were cleaned and ready to be picked up the next day! Service steps like this is what makes lasting relationships and one of the main reasons I absolutely love with with Boka! Thank you Chef Kenny, Missy, Morgan, and Team for making this year's NeoCon the best we've ever had! The only problem is, how do I top next years party?!?!?!

Great for post-dinner drinks

By Matt Davis |

I’ve come here a couple times with friends for drinks after eating at Girl and the Goat. It’s a great atmosphere and not as loud as the bar area on the ground floor. The drinks are great!

Our Favorite Place

By Stefan K |

Had dinner here while on vacation. Thank goodness we had a reservation ! The restaurant was packed! Our waitress was wonderful - kind & polite. She went above & beyond to answer questions we had about the menu, asking the chef and manager just to be sure about some items due to a food allergy. Overall, the food was great, service was great, valet car service was a blessing. We will definitely go back.

Awesome Stefanie Izzard restaurant

By Magnus105 |

Awesome Stefanie Izzard restaurant on the top floor, this time with a Peruvian twist. Great flavors, small plates. I like duck duck goat and girl and the goat a little better but this place is great. Awesome ambiance too.

My Pre-Birthday Celebration

By Marcus Haor |

We went to Cabra to Pre-Celebrate my Birthday.... good choice.. good food.. excelente service and amazing drinks.. Chef Izzard create a great menu to pair with the stunning view..

I really loved this place!

By caringinthemoment |

We stayed at the Hoxton, where this restaurant was located, and because we love ceviche, we couldn't wait to come. The food was wonderful and people who seek healthy eating (ie, uber-fresh seafood, delicate pea pods, artfully presented, see photos) will especially find this place really great. My favorite was the traditional ceviche...we ordered it twice and shared it. The shishito peppers were served piled high, enough for 4 to share. The mango sorbet was also delicious and very generous, and more than 2 could share this too. Although service was a titch tepid, the wine pours were generous. The ambience and views were wonderful. Overall, a great experience. We will be back!

Valentines Eve at Cabra

By metz7712 |

We love Girl and the Goat so wanted to give Cabra a try when we were in town. Very similar style of small plate eating and sharing. We were fortunate enough to be able to take advantage of the restaurant week menu which allowed us to choose 6 different plates plus 2 desserts. All of our drinks and food were excellent. It’s a pretty loud restaurant and our seats were abnormally low which was a bit uncomfortable for a long meal but the food and service was all excellent.

You must go here!

By Sarah |

Absolutely fantastic dinner! Fabulous food, service, atmosphere, & cocktails! All of the food was flavorful and unique. Took my parents here when they came to visit and it was our favorite meal together in Chicago thus far (and they visit a lot!). Get the sweet potato donuts for dessert!

Amazing food per usual! Sub par service.

By Sarah |

Amazing food per usual! The solterito is one of my favorites and the sweet potato chips that are served with the avocado dip are fantastic! Highly recommend the spicy tuna hand roll! I gave 4 stars this time due to the service. Our waiter came around once every 30-40 minutes. With a 2 hour time limit (due to covid) this was very frustrating.

Cabra misses the mark on near west side

By David R G |

We were expecting a five dot "Izard" experience but were disappointed in the size of the servings and the small pours on the drinks. For the price it felt like we got the short end of the stick, even though there were only three of us sharing. And for the Queen of Goat to be out of Goat Empanadas, oh my, how bad is that. Maybe next time it will be better - if there is a next time.

Great ambiance, good food

By Tshak1 |

The location and the convenience of the restaurant are both pluses. The rooftop ambiance and view are great as is the location. The ceviches: the duck, tuna and octopus were all excellent as was the chicken thighs. The empanadas were ok as was the mixto ceviche. We didn’t have any desert as bomba bar was walking distance and we love that place! Service was good and efficient and the pricing was appropriate. I will definitely return!

Just go the food is amazing!

By Gmanbumpy |

We came here for restaurant week and unfortunately I did not save the menu. Our meal was amazing! We had the tuna, Tataki, quinoa salad, an amazing chicken dish similar to the pollo a la brasa and a seafood dish on potatoes that was out of this world. I thought the soft served ice cream sounded basic. It was not. It was amazing with crispy little pieces of quinoa loved the whole experience love the restaurant I would come back again.

Great food, drinks and vibes

By Sooz830 |

Gorgeous rooftop bar and restaurant with delicious Peruvian tapas. We tried an range of things such as goat empanadas, salmon ceviche, avocado dip and more. Everything was beautifully prepared and delicious, including the cocktails. Server was helpful, attentive and friendly.

Cabra in Spanish is female for WHAT?!?!?

By Sunny77777 |

That was my reaction when my Peruvian other half told me what the word meant in his native country. You need only look as far as Wikipedia to learn that the word is actually a highly offensive slur used against homosexuals in Peru. The type of word that would surely be boycotted if its meaning were known in the US. So the fact that this restaurant was named Cabra begs the question: Was any research put into this restaurant at all? Were any Peruvians actually consulted about the food or, well, anything? My guess is no. Especially after having dined there. I do know a fair amount about Peruvian food, having been to the country about fifteen times and having a mother-in-law who cooks a truly stellar version. The food served at Cabra is nothing close. For instance, huancaina sauce is a delicate blend of aji Amarillo, queso fresco and milk. The restaurant’s version is more like the cheese you would find on nachos at Wrigley Field. Avocado dip is served with salsa on top so it turns into a watery mush. Skirt saltado (their take on the Peruvian classic lomo saltado) is turned into a fajita-like dish with red peppers. I get it. The chef admits she’s not trying to recreate authentic Peruvian food. And it seems she only went to Peru once for two weeks just a few months before the restaurant opened. But then, why call it Peruvian at all? Want great Peruvian food in Chicago? Go to Chopo chicken. Cabra isn’t Peruvian. It’s just another project from Stephanie Izard that people will flock to like, well, goats.

Definitely Bib Gourmand Worthy!

By LMK101 |

We heard it was a bib gourmand and wanted to try it. The restaurant is attached to a hotel in the west loop section of Chicago. The restaurant is upstairs and it is hopping! Your best bet is to take an Uber /Lyft to the restaurant so not to worry about where to park. The dishes are small plates for sharing. We tried about 10 different dishes and all were spectacular. From the Goat empanadas to the chicharron pork shank. They were delicious! We'd ordered the duck ceviche which took a little longer than anticipated. They accidentally gave our order to another table and immediately brought another out to our table, then apologized for the wait and gave it to us with their compliments. We hadn't even asked about it. The service was spot on. It is a bit dark if you go for dinner though the vibe is great. For drinks, the Oaxaca was fantastic. Chicha-Cha Toddy was a hot drink. They were good but my crowd was not wooed by it. Martinis are great as well. A great experience and will definitely go back.

It was good, but not a good value

Overall, I think we had a good visit, but didn't really think it was a great value. Seems like there might be a bit of a "rooftop premium" built into the price. That being said, the food was good. Whether it was good Peruvian food, I have no idea. We had the Classic Ceviche which was good. Nice fresh flavors and the leche de tigre was something I'd never had before and really liked. Having the sweet potato in it was a very pleasant surprise, but as others have mentioned, the portions are pretty small and $17.00 seemed like a lot to pay for it. Goat empanadas were also good. The pastry was especially good. Very light and flaky. Kind of seemed like they had been sitting around a while and got warmed up as a the liquid from the filling had soaked through quite a bit on the bottom. Skirt Saltado was also nicely done. Atmosphere is quite lively. Too loud to have a conversation. It's decorated really nicely with part of the kitchen on display. Chairs were really uncomfortable and the tables could be pretty small when there were multiple items on it.

Accomodating staff

By Christina S |

One of my favorite experiences while visiting Chicago. Great drinks and fantastic appetizers the decor and views were top notch. I had a large group of 8 with a reservation for 9:30pm, 30 mins prior to closing. The staff never made us feel rushed, were welcoming and accommodating. Don't miss a chance to check this place, out.

Good tacu tacu, but too much buzz

By JimmyLVB |

At the meal a 10, on hold with reservation a whole mess, and in ruckus it was too much, but it is a bar that restaurant really that made it impossible to talk to the decibels they put. As far as food is concerned, a delicious dish was the taxi tacu.

Went for brunch, but wish it was dinner.

By Adamsfamily520 |

My husband and I visited for brunch this past Saturday. Some dishes were better than others, and the menu is quite confusing. I know quite a bit about food but this one could have stood a bit more explanation to make ordering easier. The spicy tuna hand roll on special was delicious! We also ordered two other dishes but I couldn't even tell you what they were called. Interesting food, good quality, but def a little on the pricey side. I don't typically spend over $100 for brunch, on three dishes, but I would consider going back for dinner. The atmosphere is beautiful but also think it suffers a bit from being the "place to be seen".

Of the two Izard restaurants we visited, we liked this the least

By Iamthetoph |

We are huge fans of Peruvian cuisine and were looking forward to trying this concept. Overall, the food was excellent, service was friendly and relatively quick, and the patio was nice. We didn't like that the patio is shared with the hotels Tony rooftop pool. It made for a congested and busy feeling rooftop, not conducive to relaxing and enjoying the many small plates. South American cuisine is meant to be savored, and we felt hurried, rushed, and loomed over by the crowds. But, the food was still fantastic. Some of the better stateside ceviche we've had.

Expected more

The Ambiance and views are very nice. Funky bright restaurant in a great location. The service and food were very average though, our waiter was not very motivated and didn´t really explain the dishes well ( many which I had no clue what they were ). The food could have had more seasoning and nicer presentation. There are much better Peruvian restaurants in Chicago.

Delicious

By kristine_merrill |

Delicious!!! We went here for brunch!! So so good. Started with a Spicy margarita yum! Favorites were the avocado dip, goat empanadas, bacon and egg solterito, veggie omelet, and the quinoa French toast. Our waiter was awesome and very knowledgeable about the menu and gave great recommendations. Will definitely be back

One of our favorites

Cabra is one of our favorite restaurants. Amazing decor, great view, lounging atmosphere and many windows all around that provide natural lighting The menu is fantastic. We had a variety of appetizers and main courses because we couldn't narrow it down to a few dishes. If only we could eat everything! The ingredients were fresh and refreshing and the dishes beautifully presented. The drinks were also amazing and the service was very friendly and personable. I highly recommend Cabra.

Pisco Sour it is!

By Dominique M |

Very nice option in the West loop. This roof top restaurant is really nice. The scenery is an important part of the experience, and unless you hate ceviches you won’t be disappointed.

Exceptional dining experience.

By Barb C |

Exceptional service, cuisine, and atmosphere. We were greeted warmly by the hostess and seated. Our waitress was kind and knowledgeable about the menu. The pisco sours were the best we have ever had ( including during our Peruvian vacation). All the dishes were fresh, flavorful, and perfectly presented. We will definitely return!

Beautiful evening with top notch service

Christina our server was an absolute delight! Her recommendations were spot on and we enjoyed a beautiful dinner. Our compliments to the chef as well, our tastebuds have had an evening of surprise and wonder.

very patient staff

By kcdenman |

My sister and her friend had reservations at 7pm on a Thursday, but my flight was over an hour delayed. No problem! The staff made sure they were welcome, they were fed, and when I arrived, I felt as though they'd waited for me as well! The jalea mixta was my favorite, but there are so many shareable bites such as the quash and seafood mixture and the quinoa salad with cheese: all yummy!

Amazing!!!

By wanderlustgirl77 |

This was one of the best meals we have had out in Chicago in probably a year or more. I am seeing a lot of mixed reviews on here and I’m not sure I understand. This place is top notch. Our server Rowda was amazing. Explained the menu (tapas, not too hard to get) and made suggestions. She was able to explain in depth anything we weren’t sure of from the description. We had 4 items and 4 drinks. All of them were superb, interesting, different and so well done. The goat empanadas melted in your mouth. The plantain waffle with pork belly was unlike anything Ive had-unique items paired together. We learned about pisco sours and now have a new favorite drink. It’s pricey but no more than anywhere else in the neighborhood and what you get for the money - totally worth it! Staff was accommodating because they tried to seat us at a couch table - when I said I needed a real chair due to back issues they asked where we wanted to sit, if I needed extra pillows, etc. extremely accommodating. All the staff were. We had three sets of silverware brought to us, every time there was something dirty on our table it was cleaned up within moments. The place also offers a lovely city view. Just all around well done.

Not what we had hoped for...

By BSMI |

After having eaten at three of Stephanie Izard's other restaurants, I was so excited to hear about her new Peruvian one! The restaurant is absolutely beautiful! Really a great space to be in. However, the music was so loud, we struggled to speak to each other the entire night. Drinks were delicious. And though a couple of the food items we ordered were great, the majority were mediocre. Two of the things we ordered were not even available (at a 7:15pm reservation) and one of them was the only item that contains goat (which is what the restaurant is named for!) I wanted so badly to make this my new favorite, but it didn't pass the test.

Awesome place for brunch

By pyegirl |

We went for brunch and were so pleasantly surprised by the cuisine. At first the menu appeared to be a bit "lunch-like" but after a closer look and a few questions it was indeed brunch food. So creative, so different, so delicious. I can't say enough good things about the food and the service. I'd go back in a heartbeat. As for the location....it's located on the top floor of the trendy Hoxton Hotel. The elevators do not let you go to the top floor before the restaurant opens. If you're there for 10am brunch you have to ask the hotel to key in for you to get the restaurant. Definitely benefits the cafe on the ground floor. Hope Cabra fixes this!

Great food, staff can be distracted

By pyegirl |

I love the food at this place. The decor, view, and the vibe is great. We always like to come for a meal here because the food is creative and delicious...down to the crunchy quinoa. Small comment: we were there early one evening and it was pretty empty. There were a million people working the place. Our server had friends sitting at another table and he spent most of the time visiting with them. Didn't need him much, but it would have been great to be able ask him a question. I get that its slow at times, but its odd to be dining at a place where there are a million employees and no one is even paying attention to you.

Great food and hospitality

By Kapil C |

Great bar, patio and food is delicious but the best is the awesome hospitality we received from Mario, Fabian, Andrew and their wonderful team. The restaurant week menu is amazing and highly recommend! Awesome service by: Fabian at the bar and our server Andrew, they are both fantastic and made it an amazing experience for us! Really appreciated it! Favorite dishes: Fish sanguche was delicious, one of the best sandwiches I have had lately. Yuca fritas, sweet potato donuts, Oaxaca Old Fashioned, salmon huancaina dip, tuna tiradito, Swiss chard and kale empanada, shrimp tacu tacu, spiced brownie

What a view!!!

By jamirichelle |

One of my favorite views... EVER! This restaurant took my breath away. My husband and I visited for lunch (right before the lunch rush) so we could truly enjoy the atmosphere. The severs and the crew were full of energy, everyone was happy to be at work. Andrew was our server and he delivered positive vibes and great recommendations to try a ceviche dish. The combination of my Old Fashioned drink and the ceviche dish were incredible. This is a must try spot for any occasion.

Dive in - you’ll be glad you did

By Sharon M |

We were a bit apprehensive when we saw the menu. But everything we ordered was delicious and truly unique experience! Our favorites: classic cerviche, solterito (with hot fried cheese cubes - yum), avocado dip, ahi de Gallina empanadas and especially the grilled shishito peppers ( not too hot - don’t miss this one). Without question do not miss the soft serve swirl for dessert. The best ice cream ever (mango) with toppings. One of the best desserts ever. Amazing city view, excellent service.

One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time

By Cubs_Fan007 |

This place is amazing! From the moment we arrived and were greeted very warmly, to the food and service, everything was 100% perfect. It’s a very nice atmosphere, on the 12th floor with an outdoor area and nice bar area. The menu is very extensive, there is something for everyone. We started with 2 of the tuna appetizers…both very fresh and tasty and a great sauce on one of them. Pretty decent portions. We then had the larger entrees of the Cornish hen and steak…WOW…first of all, they were large portions, I was not expecting that, we could have just gotten one but I am glad we were able to try different entrees. The chicken was so moist and tender served with some fried potatoes. The steak was awesome, with the most amazing sauce I’ve tasted, also served with potatoes which were so good and peppers and tomatoes. Did not have dessert since we were full. Service was spot on, we never felt rushed. I cannot wait to go back to try different dishes. I would highly recommend!

LOUD

By gerald m |

Really can’t review as it was loud beyond imagination and had to leave. Nice set up on a roof top but ear splitting .if you are over 30 don’t bother.

Excellent

By easternsho |

We arrived a bit early and had a drink at the bar. They comped the drink because we had to wait! We ordered the tasting menu and it was fantastic. I don't know what we enjoyed more, the beef hearts, the shrimp, the smoked aji, the octopus... everything was beautifully prepared and presented with interesting flavors. Highly recommend!

Great Sunday Brunch

By KirkG |

The Bloody Marys contain the freshest tomato juice I have ever had. The different small plates are all tasty. Not a bad choice to be had.

Great Vibes

By Shanel S |

The music is great and the vibe is worth it! Everything from walking in was very nice. This place has great atmosphere.

Amazing Duck Ceviche

By ROBERT ZAPATA |

This restaurant is located at the top of a building. There’s a bar in the lobby and when you go up there’s a pool adjacent to the restaurant. We reserved a table the morning before we went because we heard this place was very popular and found that we were right. It was indeed popular and packed from shoulder to shoulder in the hallway. Anyways, the food was damn good! A little expensive for Peruvian food but the twist on traditional Peruvian cuisine is definitely worth the experience. Try the duck ceviche! It’s amazing.

Always Top Notch....

By wanderlustgirl77 |

Cabra is always top notch. We came for brunch and left satisfied and full of their dreamy empanadas. Staff are excellent. The drinks are fantastic and the food divine. We ordered a dish that was heavy on the avocados and the chef had cut up an avocado that was not ready and it was rock hard, you couldn’t even cut it. When we mentioned this to our server, he whisked it away and brough a replacement dish. We have only ever had great meals here – eclectic and yummy with great rooftop views. Highly recommend. I like all their meals but brunch is our family favorite.

Terrible experience-Save your money

By AJS |

I hosted a business dinner on 2/24/22. The staff here will try to rush you in and out as quickly as they can. They brought the bill before we finished eating, which was around $500 for 4 people. As soon as our plates were cleared the hostess told us we needed to leave since we had been there over 2 hours. We still had drinks on the table. I was really embarrassed that I took a client to this establishment. I will never take my corporate dinning here again.

A happening place

By Scott M |

Saturday night, Green St and Fulton Market are an absolute zoo, especially to park. Tons of construction going on in that neighborhood! You walk into the lobby of the Hoxton Hotel, and things are hopping at the lobby bar. Take the elevator to the top, and Cabra is a flurry of activity. LOUD. 270 degrees view out of the windows. Then the food. Small plates generally - the latest trend to charge you entree prices for small portions. And they are small - 1-2 spoonfuls for each of 4 people. Especially true of the ceviches (salmon and tomato) and the tiradito (hamachi) Flavors are good, but you will be a bit dismayed by the portion sizes. The Shrimp Tacu Tacu is delicious over rice, but hardly a large plate ($22). The most impressive dish was the Chicharrón del Puerco (skin on fatty pork shank. pickles, yuzu-tomato. tart plums. rocoto mayo. herby vinaigrette. sweet potato flatbread), as its a fall-apart pork shank, and delicious ($36). Servers are eager to have you order 2-3 plates each, and drinks to match. Trendy, expensive - go once, I think to see what its all about.

Light, fresh, elegant and simple ingredients on a plate

By ChiTownAuntie |

It took me so long to get a reservation at Cabra but it was sooo worth the wait! Restaurant with beautiful views atop Hoxton Hotel. Solterito salad is a must - combination of green beans, sweet corn, heirloom tomatoes, blueberries, cucumber, fried cheese, olives and chimichurri. Exquisite ceviches, small plates. All plates perfect for sharing.

Best meal I've had in a long time, so much flavor!

My friend and I ate here for a late dinner over labor day weekend. we were so impressed! the food was so fresh and full of flavor. service was great and the decor and view are amazing. highly recommend and cant wait to visit again.

Great rooftop

Amazing rooftop and buzzing vibe Had mostly drinks and appetisers but what we ate was great. Friendly staff and a great sunset

Flavorful, fresh and beautiful

By SavannahGal |

I can not rave enough about this place. The great experience started upon arrival where a young female dj was playing fantastic music….. At a pleasant volume. The entire space is beautifully decorated and the outdoor patio was delightful on a chilly afternoon. The view from our table of the high rises in the loop was perfection. There was also a fireplace which at the time wasn’t on but we will be back when the weather is cooler. We started out with cocktails from a talented bar tender. We ordered several “last words” that had the perfect balance of tartness, herbiness and a tiny bit of sweetness. Then we ordered chicken thigh anticucho which was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. I know, the humble chicken thigh, but the char was just right and the marinade and sauces balanced the char to create perfection. The vegetable dish solterito is something I will try to duplicate at home. It was a larger vegetable dish which is often difficult to find on restaurant menus. The veggies were crisp tender, varied in texture and amazingly dressed in a tart dressing that might have a little toasted sesame oil. Those two dishes would be a perfect dinner but we had others. We also had mushroom ceviche (!!!!!!), tuna tataki, and yucca frites. I added the frites in case the portions were too small and we were still hungry. They were perfectly fine but not as interesting as the other items and we actually could only eat one so we boxed them up to go. I can not imagine any future trip to Chicago without at least one meal at Cabra. The outdoor dining, the food, the decor, the music all create the perfect restaurant for this diner.

Stephanie Izard’s newest Restaurant!

By Kimmy's Joyful Travels |

Stephanie Izard’s newest Restaurant! A chic rooftop spot with pool. We met up with one of my best friends on a Friday night in the summer. If you don’t like a bunch of socialites, be warned this restaurant is not for you then. Unfortunately, we did not get to eat here because I didn’t make reservations soon enough and they had a 4 hour wait (no joke). If you want to eat here, I recommend making your reservations at least 2-3 weeks in advance. I am obsessed with Goats, so I thought her restaurants WERE the cutest. She has a couple all within walking distance to each other in the West Loop area. I am bummed I didn’t get to try their food, but for now I’ll just stick to using their Little Goat seasoning at home. ;)

Great rooftop bites

By Danny |

I went to Cabra’s rooftop with friends, and the setting is beautiful in the summer. They had great frozen drinks (I tried to recreate the pisco sour at home with some success) that were perfect for the hot sun. Their small plates were delicious as well, especially the seafood ones like ceviche. Additionally they were well prepared for COVID regulations which is nice to see. I’d recommend anyone looking for a fancy rooftop lunch to go here.

Good spot / terrible service

Enjoyed the rooftop and ambiance. The service was horrible. I did like the food but was turned off by the poor service

Food for the soul

By Tatiana Vieira Green |

I went to Cabra with my sister. I heard about it before and was waiting for months to go. So expectations were super high. But even with that this restaurant surprised me. The food was made to be eaten with your eyes and stomach. BEAUTIFUL plates, amazing atmosphere and delicious food. Will go there in any occasion. GREAT!!

Great hotel resto

Great place for snacks or a large meal - service was good and speedy - a bit loud so look for a place closer to the kitchen

Vacation above Chicago

Excellent food, service, and atmosphere. The rooftop location, green plants, and colorful/flavorful dishes made us feel like we were on vacation. Highly recommended.
