Very Good Food With Eclectic Menu

By David A |

We were there last night with two other couples. Food was very good. Service was courteous but slow. A nice older fellow was playing piano when we arrived at 7:30, but he disappeared soon after and never returned. Still -- one of the top restaurants in Kendall.

Café Catula

By EvanGuthrie |

Café Catula on 87th Avenue in East Kendall is a great place to go for quality food in a really cool and relaxed atmosphere. I like their seafood dishes and most of their menu items that they have available as everything is delicious, well prepared, and flavorful. I have had a really good experience every time I have been here.

Great place to go

By Teresa L |

We go there often. The service is always superb and consistent. The food is great and it's always that way. It's not like others that when you go a second or third etc it might be bad Noo!!!! not until now and I've been going at least for 3 years or since they opened. Great for lunch and dinner. Recommended highly.

A gem, of all places, in Kendall!

By Robert H |

We visited here, five blocks from our residence, this past Friday night. It is in the newish building next to Sunset Liquors, or across from the gas station. Valet parking available. Catula, named after the bronze sculpture on site, is on the ground floor, entrance through a magnificent walkway. House red bottle was fine. Appetizers: My wife had the extra crispy fried calamari, I had the Boquerones al Vinagre "Fresh anchovies in a vinegar sauce). Both were excellent, my wife said of the calamai: "Best I have ever had." We both choose same entree: Filet Catula (Center-cut filet Mignon filled with goat cheese and roasted peppers topped with roasted garlic, rosemary, and a brandy red wine sauce) The atmosphere (art on display, fine piano in background) was pleasing, if not conversation) a bit loud. Cafe Catula is a welcome development for the area, if not for all of South Florida. Service was prompt, knowledgeable, and friendly.

Upscale for the area

By Dale D |

Café Catula is situated in a corner office building, with adequate parking in a garage environment. Parking, for me, is one of the prime criteria for going to a restaurant in Miami. Although there is valet available, it is quite easy to self park. The restaurant is a white table cloth and linen environment. Numerous niches of art work, and sculpture and oil paintings adorn the walls and are on stands. All, of course, are for sale. The menu is quite varied and consists of international dishes, Latin dishes, fish, chicken and steaks. Everything is well prepared and beautifully presented. The wait staff can be very efficient, but at times, hard to get their attention, depending on how busy the restaurant is. On week-ends there is some sort of entertainment, but for dinner there is a wonderful piano player. For the three times we have been there, everyone was happy with their meals, and everything looked and tasted wonderful. I would return to this restaurant any time. I would consider it even a special occasion place.

Nice to have a neighborhood place like this

By EmoMiami |

I have been there several times. The space is geat, food pretty damn good but......the service was lacking the last time I visited. I mean this as constructive criticism and hope it is taken that way. They're advertising Happy Hour but when there is only 6 people at the bar and it takes more than 15 minutes to get your first drink, that's a problem. After sitting down for dinner it also took a very long time to get our food (but no the kitchen's fault) and, once plates were set down for any of our courses, the waiter disappeared for lengthy periods of time and we could not get his attention when we needed something. Food was great.............service not so good. But happy to have a place like this in the neighborhood which is lacking in newer restaurants that serve cocktails.

Excelent Place

By Overseas Travel & Tours |

My family took me there for my birthday and my night was super. The food was great, the service was fantastic. The feeling inside the restaurant is wonderful. I want to make an special mention to the piano man Orlando Guanche. He is a very talented musician and thanks to him the night was perfect

Italian Latin fusion on Sunset & Galloway

By Aaayron |

I must have driven by the place a hundred times and never noticed Cafe Catula, just off the corner of Sunset & SW 87 ave. You just don't expect a gem like this to be here. You expect it to be in the Gables or on the beach at twice the price. So we decided to give it a try and were pleasantly surprised to find this little gem, right in our backyard. First of all, it was raining, so the covered valet parking in the connected garage was a bonus. You walk in and it's a little bright and a little noisy (even for a Saturday night),but then you start noticing the amazing paintings and sculptures everywhere. It was more like walking in on an art gallery opening. Very colorful. We were seated at a nice table by the baby grand piano (nice old school touch) and we checked out the menu. Very interesting apps of mostly raw bar fair, but the kick was the tapas section. We tried some portobellos with spinach and cheese and the crab cake. Both delicious, in fact the dipping sauces for the crab cakes was unnecessary, as they measured up to any Maryland crab cake we ever ate. Packed with crab and very tasty. no sauce needed. We also had the Sunset snapper with artichoke hearts and sundried tomato in a white wine lemon sauce. Flaky moist perfection. Nice presentation with the tail still attached to the filet. Also had the Porcine mushroom risotto with small pieces of saute beef tenderloin mixed in. Not too heavy and the beef with the porcine created a nice broth for the risotto, which was perfectly cooked. I hate when they put just gobs of butter in the risotto, but this was great. Next time, we will try some of the latin/itlaian fusion dishes like the black bean risotto with pork and plantains. Lots of very interesting pastas, risottos and seafood along with more carnivorous offerings like Osso Buco and typical filet, strip etc...The only negative was the very overpriced wine list and your glass of wine options limited to Cab, Merlot, Malbec and white @ $9 each (no vineyards listed). Not sure what the corkage fee is but we will bring our own bottle next time. Another thing that irked me a little was the low bar set for a dress code here. Saw some people in shorts, baseball hats and work out pants and flip flops. But the crowd was OK, just don't get gussied up or you may feel out of place. Kind of weird, especially with all the fine art and the piano player in a tux playing classical music on a baby grand. But the place was full, so it must be working for them. We will be back.

Excellent cuisine

I have visited "Cafe Catula" on several occasion and I've never been disappointed. The food, service and atmosphere are excellent. You can never have a bad meal.

Another review ... still excellent ...

By Jose Miguel Velazquez |

I don't miss the opportunity to provide a feedback once again for a restaurant that deserve a high recognition ... We are a frequent visitor of this excellent restaurant, with family, with my boss, with visitor from another state or another country ... absolutly ALL the meals are very delicious , but the most important is the staff that make the stay very comfortable ... Alejandro, Erick, Carlos make you feel like a VIP visitor and specially the bartender Lester Rodriguez, which is an expert preparing cocktails ... very delicious Sangria with a touch of Pro Seco make this drink so special ... the owner should know how special are these guys ... I have recommended this restaurant to many friends that like to have a good dinning ... recently I bought a gift card for a couple that helped me out with some personnal matters and they were very recompensated with their experience in Cafe catula ... Keep the standards you already reached ...

Unique experience

By Kenia V |

Once again, not only an elegant environment but an extremely excellent service from Alejandro , definitely well recommend. I've been here with clients and friend and the treatment is always absolutely amazing.

Exquisite surprise

By Arlene O |

I was at a doctor' visit and on my way to my car I smelled good food. I followed my nose and found a hidden gem (at least to me). I had the Spaghetti a la Noah from the lunch menu. Excellent! Alejandro was nice, helpful and very approachable. The ambiance? Classy, relaxed with beautiful live piano music. A little pricy, but totally worth it.

Great Surprise

By Esther I |

We were looking for a place to have lunch in the area on our Way to an appointment and friends had mentioned Cafe Catula And we had a great lunch at a great price with free valet parking Add to these great service. I had A salad with chicken picatta Which was served with a side of pasta with a pink sauce, delicious. The menu offers a variety of international cuisine

To new experiences!

By martariverallorens |

The decor and ambience are amazing. There is a pianist, who is incredible and talented. The food is superb and happy hour prices are affordable. We sat at the bar are and Victor, our waiter, was the best! We had the risotto with sweet plantains, black beans and porks... Wow!!! A definite come back!

Excellent duck

By Andrea C |

We visited because of Miami Spice months. The Pre-set menu offered many selections for the entree ( chicken, beef, and duck). Appetizers were either the soup (vegetable) or Caesar salad. We ordered the salad which was crisp and fresh. A basket of fresh warm rolls was brought to the table. The duck was served with yellow rice and fresh vegetables. The sugary glaze complimented the duck. Dessert was flan or tres milk crepe. Both desserts were excellent. A nice treat was the piano player. What a bargain for $19 each.

excellent miami spice menu

By moparmoe |

preset miami spice menu offered varied selections from there menu all the appetizers and entrees were very good and the portions were more than adequate. wine list offered good value also. service was also good

Great food with annoyance

By megan12 |

We finally decided to try this hidden place which we go by almost everyday. We were celebrating my friend's birthday. It was refreshing to learn that they are open all day. The staff is very attentive, very warm welcome and eager to answer all questions about the menu. Atmosphere is very relaxing with great music and a piano bar. The cream of mushroom was exquisite. The fish special with mustard and champagne sauce very fresh, perfectly done. The osso bucco is one of the best in town. The experience would have been perfect but for the last group who came in. They were seated at the center with an infant in a carrier who was constantly crying probably because his soiled diaper needed to be changed. This really spoiled the occasion. The management should be more considerate not only to provide a more secluded table for patrons who need space for loud children but closer to the restrooms since the smell of soiled diapers make it impossible to enjoy a great meal. We rushed to finish our meal and left without even trying any of their desserts.

Unique atmosphere and delicious cuisine off of Sunset

By Catherine M |

My husband and I have had dinner at Cafe Catula before. On this visit we came with friends and we took advantage that it is Miami Spice time. We made reservations through Opentable so that when we arrived on Saturday evening we were seated within a few minutes. It was a good thing we made reservations because by 8pm the restaurant was full and the only seats available were at the bar. The waiter took our drink orders and gave us time to look over the menu. My husband and I decided to take advantage of the Miami Spice menu. I ordered the crab cake for an appetizer, the corvina for my entree and a tres guayabas (guava flan) for my dessert. My husband had the stuffed portabello, the skirt steak and dulce de leche crepes. Everything was delicious. An added bonus is that there is live music (pianist) on Saturday evenings. You can valet park or self park in the garage behind the restaurant. There is usually parking in the garage. The staff is professional, food delicious and overall experience is wonderful. We will definitely continue to come to Cafe Catula.

Great atmosphere...good food

By Louis F |

The atmosphere and service were all very good. The bar is somewhat limited. The food was average to good depending on the plate. The appetizers were very good however the main course of Frutti de Mari was only average.

Great Experience

By drgreatoe |

This is a great night out experience. The food is excellent and the service is superb. The setting seems like having lunch/dinner in a art gallery. This would be a great spot for a romantic night out for 2.

A classy addition to restaurant scene

By EJGMIA |

Visited Cafe Catula upon the recommendation of friends. It's located in a brand new building, actually in the lobby, within an art filled space. Very spacious and elegantly appointed. Only wine and beer for the time being. We had Mini Beef Empanada, which were excellent, Bacalao (Cod Fish) croquettes which were very good, Corvina (Sea Bass) Ceviche (very Good) Caprese Salad and the Fish Special of the day which was Fresh Cod in a Lime Sauce. The fish was fine but the sauce was a bit salty and the Chef decided to clear the reach-in cooler by filling the rest of our plate with broccoli, fried green plantain, fried ripe plantain, a pene type pasta in tomato sauce and other unidentifiable items. Apparently he missed the class on "eye appeal" while in culinary school! Worth a try but stay away from complex dishes while the chef finds his bearings! Cost for two, with beer and coffee before tip was $85.00. Service was good.

Tastless Mush

By Greg W |

The restaurant should not participate in Miami Spice if they are not going to serve decent food. The Red snapper I was served was a pile of mush. I was born and raised in Miami and know when fish is frozen (NOT FRESH). Old frozen fish is tough to prepare. My plate was a soupy mess. The place is overrated and loud. You should not have to scream across the table to be heard. The Hialeah clientele that was there that night are loud, rude people that do not know any better. This was a huge disappointment since I had heard good things about this place. Just a lot of hype and very little substance. It was like eating in a school cafeteria. The food was hog slop and I won't ever go back. If you want a decent meal go to Seasons 52 in Coral Gables. Always good food and wonderful service. The GM there always provides consistent high-quality food and service.

Can not Trust .

By longaray2 |

Even though they advertise a Happy Hour price they do not follow it. When I complaint that I was being over charge on a Dewars Scotch, I was told that the ony Scotch on their Happy Hour price was Grant's. Well the menu does not say this nor did the waiter inform us. All other orders were also not at Happy Hour prices. I will never go back and wiil advise my friends about this. You can not trust this place.

Latin Fusion surrounded by lovely art and music.

By asora10066 |

For a twist on your high end meal, give this restaurant a try. I ordered the Miami Ravioli a tasty savory and sweet pasta. The grand finale was an amazing guava flan with a guava marmalade sauce. So good. The restaurant has live music and lovely artwork. All your senses will come to life!

Good Food and Ambiance - Waiters need attitude assistance

By GermanF150 |

Had a business lunch at the restaurant with clients of mine. The place is very attractive with nice art work around the restaurant. Food was well presented and the restaurant obviously has a following. However, I was taken by surprise at the attitude that our server had with us. First of all, his English lacked and at times was difficult to understand him. He was gone for long periods of time and then he would come back in a rush, to see if we needed anything. Not very good. The most upsetting thing was that once the guests left, they had ordered deserts and could not eat them, as they were late for a meeting. If I'm paying for the lunch, then I am entitled to take those deserts with me, as they were part of the bill. However, when I questioned the guy, he took an attitude, then took a long time to get back with me to tell me that the clients had taken them with them. Liar! I spoke to them after their meeting and they told me that they never even asked for the desert to take. He told me they took them to go and then scooped something and threw in in a plastic cup for me to take. That guy needs to get educated in customer service. Once I have paid for something, I'm entitled to it. Not sure I will recommend this place. food was great, servers are in need of attitude adjustments and customer attention.

Disappointed with staff

By jeost |

Went for Happy Hour - 25% of area in bar was marked as reserved. Tables open and available; however, staff could only offer 2 stools for a party of four. Staff said reservation in Happy Hour area was a mistake but could not make adjustments to accommodate despite having open seats. Elitist attitude of staff will ensure we never return.

Cafe Catula

By pepepinga |

Restaurant was really good but pricey. I had a carbonara pasta that was out of this world and miy wife had the grill salmon on a sweet pear sauce that was outstanding. The appetizer was garlic shrimp that tasted really good. Overall it was a nice experience for a change.

WOW

By Raphael L |

We were in Dadeland and due to time constraints did not want to drive back to South Beach and then have to make a return trip. I consulted TripAdvisor and found Cafe Catula. We had a delightful relaxing dinner and also were surrounded by interesting modern art and very beautiful bronze sculptures. The portobello mushroom appetizer was outstanding as was the shrimp and asparagus risotto and the special lamb chops. We were well served by Anisara and enjoyed the Foid, decor, and service. When in the area, drop in and you will have a good time.

great service and food

By floridabroker |

Super nice restaurant to go with friends or family. Gourmet food, I recommend the hog snapper and risotto. Also the varieties of deserts are awesome.

Outstanding risotto

By SusanMochnacs |

We stopped here for happy hour and stayed for dinner. The wine served at happy hour isn't great, but for $6, it was a good value. We ordered follow-up martinis and they were perfect. The mushroom appetizer was fabulous, but nothing compares to the excellent risotto. My husband asked for it to be made vegetarian and after a few confused looks, they said they could accommodate us. I ordered an appetizer of seared tuna that was served with tostones and risotto and it was a wonderful combination of flavors and textures. The live piano music was very nice in the background and the atmosphere is quite romantic-- soft lighting, comfortable seating. We're so glad we stopped in and we're looking forward to return visits.

Celebrating anniversary

By GraRi |

We decided to try Cafe Catula for our anniversary dinner and were very satisfied. They are offering the Miami Spice menu, from which I chose the crab cake, veal scaloppini and coconut flan. My husband had grilled octopus and chocolate souffle. Delicious! Service was also very good. We'll go back for sure!

I had a great dish one of the daily specials. Lobster with risotto & shell fish, awesome. Great wine.

We Didn't Go Here for a Loud Piano and Vocal Performance

By Dale D |

Last evening, our party of four dined at Café Catula. We were enjoying our meal, and the food was delicious and the service was excellent. The enjoyment totally stopped when a singer and pianist began to perform. The young female vocalist belted out song after song as though she were on a rock concert stage. The singer, although excellent, was extremely loud, as was the piano. Our conversation came to a halt. None of us could hear each other speak. We dined with people we seldom see, and we were anxious to catch up on each other’s news, and visit. We simply could not talk over the loud singer. Had we known that there would be this extremely annoying and loud noise throughout the main part of our meal, we definitely would not have come to dinner at Cafe Catula. There is no need for a singer, or loud piano music at a restaurant of fine dining. We did not go to dinner to enjoy a concert hall environment, but to have a quiet and relaxing dinner. We were so upset that we cut our dinner short, did not even think about having desert or coffee. We could not wait to flee the restaurant and the painful noise. I asked to speak to the manager, and advised him of this, and he offered nothing. We shall not be returning, and I would recommend that diners who call for dinner reservations be advised of the musical entertainment before making a reservation. Callers for reservations should first be advised if there is entertainment and what time it begins.

Wasn't impressed

By C M |

This place was recommended to us by several people. We weren't impressed by the food at all. It was pretty "eh." Won't be going back.

Look the Art Gallery!

By Cal S |

My son and I celebrated my wife's birthday at Café Catula. I was first impressed with the art work in the entry way. The food was outstanding!!! My wife had the lamb chops, I had a medium well steak and our son had salmon. The serve was outstanding. I enjoyed the two-piece band.

BDay Celebration

By Noel J G |

Great Service, food & fair prices. Piano Bar music was just right. Bar poured great drinks at a very fair price, no need to order a double

Great restaurant

By rosalg02 |

This is an old school great ambiance restaurant, out of the usual Miami tourist venues, you are surrounded by fine Cuban art and you can listen to a great pianist while you enjoy a contemporary interpretation of Cuban and Spanish recipes. Great service and consistent quality. Highly recommended.

Fantastic meal

By M115IEbrandonw |

One of the best dishes I've ever had - pork masitas risotto. My lord. Outstanding. Comes with plantains and black beans. Wife enjoyed her crab cake very much. Caesar salad great too.

A sophisticated venue with excellent cuisine.

By EJGMIA |

Been a year since I last visited and reviewed this excellent restaurant. Went back with party of five. We shared Croquetas de Bacalao and had Crunchy Tuna Tartar (excellent), Corvina Ceviche (excellent), and Seared Scallops (excellent). For mains we had Risoto de Masita (a unique creation which turned out to be excellent), Osso Buco Milanese on Parmesan Risoto (excellent but unfortunately a bit dry inside) and finally Wild Hog Snapper which was superb. For dessert one chocolate souffle. Check with coffee and drinks ($48) was $352 before tip. Very pleasant atmosphere, music, nicely dressed people and great ambiance. Next time I will not wait a year to return. Dancing available. Reminded me of some venues in old Havana!

Happy hour

By Luis A |

This place is nice, but some of the staff are too much, we when because the happy hour, food was great, now the first drink was ok then after that it when south, barman didn't refresh the 🍷 every time we order new drinks. Very disappointed

Service went downhill fast

By Diane K |

We were surprised to see an automatic 18% gratuity - which really didn’t incentivize our waitress at all. She never checked on us - once we placed our order. The bus boy provided much better service then she did. Disappointing - since the ambiance was nice and the food was decent. We won’t be back.

Great dining experience

By Nuria R |

I had a fantastic dinner with my husband last night at this restaurant. Everything we tried was just outstanding - thank you chef. The service and ambiance were top notch. I would highly recommend this gem to anyone seeking a great evening. The pianist was excellent too.

Always Excellent

By h44c |

We go here from time to time & enjoy ourselves each & every visit. Whatever we order is always fresh, hot & very delicious.

Great restaurant

By Nuria R |

We went to dinner one evening and the food and service were excellent. The live piano was also a nice touch to the evening. Would highly recommend this restaurant. Don't forget to check out the art pieces too. Overall, great experience.

Great food every time!

By jle1397 |

We are locals who frequent Casa Catula for special and non-special dinners. They always come through with excellent service and excellent food. It can on occasion be noisey which I think has to do with the style of the ceiling or something. It doesn’t absorb noise very well. Otherwise it’s awesome!

Great food comfortable atmosphere confused service

By Bob33134 |

The food at Cafe Catula was great. Service, however, was a bit of the three stooges, coordinated three stooges, but still . . . Party of six including a child. Had pasta, fish, and tapas -- along with appetizers, nice wine selection, and dessert. Took a long time to get from the salad to the entrée. Heard that our waiter was even embarrassed. Asked for fresh American coffee and got Nescafe. Having said that: to find a place like this on 87th Avenue is a real joy. It's really a Coral Gables place in Kendall, with Kendall prices. Beautiful and comfortable design and ambiance. I hope this one sticks around.

Great discovery in Miami

By Sally72000 |

We have walked past this restaurant several times and decided to go there and give it a try, what a pleasantly surprise! Don't let the entrance fool you it is marvelous in the inside!. A classy atmosphere with a fine art exposition. The live music is amazing and the food was exquisite but what really made our experience perfect was our waiter, his name is Eric Martinez (I wrote it down to be able to mention him on my review) he is so far the most professional individual I had encountered in the Miami area, with a vast knowledge of the menu, the patience to explain every detail and recommend us what resulted to be the perfect meal for our picky taste. I recommend: the tapas, the Osso Buco milanese, and please please save room and try the "tres guayabas" dessert, you will thank me later. I will definitely go back soon.

Their ambiance and food continue to be of high quality

By Alfred R |

I visited Cafe Catula again last weekend. Their ambiance, bar area, is excellent! On the weekends they have music and this time the female singer was of high quality. The music was somewhat too loud for the size place. One disappointment was that the meat (masas de puerco) were overdone. The meat was hard.

Dinner

By Beto |

If you are not hispanic l dont recommend eating here because you will be treated as a second class citizen. In addition the management is extremely rude and the food is subpar and over priced. The owners Saul and Leida Hernandez when contacted prefer to take money from unsatisfied customers including automatic gratuities which are certainly undeserved for the poor quality service they provide.

Best steak in town!

By Monica R |

Have gone several times...steak melts in my mouth. Place is clean and servers are friendly. Although it seems there's always an older croud. Piano entertainment is nice.

Amazing Risotto

By maria u |

I just have to say that I have eaten risotto at Harry's Bar in Venice and I must say; the asparagus, saffron, cheese risotto we ate at Cafe Catula was just as delicious. They make it to order so the ingredients were fresh and just so melt in your mouth delicious. The restaurant is very pretty, very comfortable chairs. The music playing was very pretty and enjoyable. The Piano Man is not there on Thursday's. But I heard he is really good. My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinners. Between the four of us we had the Lamb with a black bean mint sauce that my friend loved. The lamb was cooked perfectly and you get a big order. The Salmon was a bit sweet for another friends taste, however he enjoyed it. I had the Red Snapper with artichoke and sun dried tomatoes and a wine sauce; this was delicious, however I found it a little to salty. Especially since I really don't use a lot of salt in my everyday eating habits. So if you are the same way with the salt, do not get this entree. They do the fish with just lemon, olive oil and sea salt but our server told me the sauce is light and it is not light. So don't let him talk you into it. All the grilled meals came with the absolutely most delicious potatoes I have ever eaten; I think they are boiled in saffron, super perfect potatoes. That alone was worth the meal. They also serve really good vegetables. Another friend ate the half moon pasta stuffed with crab meat in a pink lobster sauce, simply delicious. The salads were also really good. Finally, we ordered a half order of the risotto for the table and it was the highlight of the meal. Just so delicious. I can't wait to go back. I hear their desserts are really great as well, but there was not way. Next time, maybe, if I don't eat all the risotto. Great menu. Go and enjoy, you will not be disappointed. And the price of each plate is definitely worth it.

Local Hidden Gem

By Mel_Medd |

This place definitely took me by surprise. Located on 57th avenue and Sunset, this is a local hidden gem. I never would have expected such a great place right in the middle of Sundet. Considering the quality of the food, the amazing customer service, the lovely wine, and accessible parking this restaurants deserves to be in Miami Beach, Coral Gables or Las Olas. Imagine this... fine art, food, and a piano bar with live music and a bar. What more cold you ask for? The restaurant is located by the corner where there is a garage and you can choose to valet or self park. Either way, it's easy and convenient. As you walk towards the entrance they have some nice tiki tourches lighting the way with seating outside where you can smoke your cigar with a glass of wine. As you enter there's some fine art sculptures and paintings. very clean place and customer service is on point! They have live music with a piano and guitars so you can watch while you enjoy your dinner. And, it's not too loud. You can still talk and listen. On to the food, it's incredible. At first, I sat there looking at the menu thinking "what am I going to eat? I don't even like seafood and everything else is pretty pricey". Well, I finally decided to step out of the box. I had the Croquetas de Bacalao (codfish croquettes) OMG! they were so good and fresh you couldn't taste the fishyness. It was served with a side of guava sauce to dip and some lemon. I don't know who thought of this but if I ever see them I'm going to have to hug them so hard! I also tried the Tablas De Jamon y Queso which is Manchego cheese and rolled ham - obviously it was good. For the most important dish, my entrée, I had the Mezzanine Di Granchio which is half moon pasta filled with crab meat in a creamy lobster sauce. I know what you're thinking. out of all the dishes to pick from, you chose a seafood option? Yes, and it was AMAZING - considering I don't like seafood. It was very good and perfectly portioned. After all the food I ate I didn't feel like it was too overwhelming. I felt just right. My boyfriend had the beat of duck carmelized with black sugar in a balsamic honey sauce (I didn't even have a chance to try it because he inhaled it within 2 minutes). A friend of mine had the filet mignon with stuffed cheese, she said it was very good as well. I believe we had the Cianti red wine if not it was some kind of merlot, not too sweet and at the perfect temperature. The prices are a little on the higher side but keep in mind you don't have to travel to miracle mile or the beach to have some amazing food. This is a great place for a date night or some family time. I give this place 5 stars because of its quality, accessibility, and great customer service. I will be going back for happy hour soon.

"Great Food & Service"

By CARLOS A. Sanchez |

We went with friends and they were just opening at 2 pm. The warm bread with 2 spreads was delish, we got the lunch specials. They consist of soup or salad, an entree and choice of 4 desserts. We had the pumpkin soup and for entrees a crab ravioli with shrimp, Cuban risotto with pork & sweet plantains, as well as risotto with shrimp. for desserts we had the pears in sauce, coconut flan and filled crepe with ice cream. The special includes a glass of wine. The service was very good and the place is classy and elegant.

My husband and I received the worse service from Victor at the bar during Happy Hour. He only had 2 costumers at the bar and two tables to wait on. We ask him to bring us water and bread he forgot all about us. The happy hour appetizers were not worth the $6. ( one small mushroom with cheese and spinach). And we received our bill Victor charged us $12 for it . Good thing my husband noticed it. Bottom line, don't go to the bar for happy hour and get waited by Victor.

Catula Cafe Can Make Your Day

By FisherNumber1 |

This place is the size of a cafe, but the food and drink are much bigger. First of all there is an abundance of art focusing on the female form. It is definitely not a place to take inquisitive children. Great couples place though. There is not an ocean view, so they have decorated the inside with a contemporary clean style and it is very stylish and comfortable. Everything you want to see is inside. I had the mushrooms stuffed with goat cheese and peppers and the grilled Argentine Chorizos. They were excellent. I will be back. I must tell you the "Happy Hour" drinks are $6.00, but so are the appetizers. This is a deal in Miami where appetizers are $9.00 in most places of this caliber. You can have a great date night here and be prepared to pay for it. the ambiance, great service and cool clean interior are worth it.

Always excellent

By floridahistory |

This is absolutely one of our favorite places! We were most recently there last night. We brought another couple with us this time, and they say it's one of their favorite places now too. We've been to Cafe Catula perhaps five times now. The food is always excellent, from the soup to the desserts. Not every restaurant knows how to prepare duck. This one does. Risotto is another highlight. They have several varieties. The service is professional, friendly and informative. I'm puzzled that some reviewers think the music is too loud. I found the piano player to be tasteful and understated. I don't think we've ever been on a Saturday night, so maybe that's the difference. I also enjoy the paintings and sculpture. It can be a little tricky to find your way into the parking lot. The restaurant is on the first floor of an office building and the parking is in the basement. Approaching Southbound on 87th Avenue is your best bet!

Great piano bar

By RP1379 |

This place is wonderfull! Great food and a full bar. They don't have many places like this anymore. Modern, great service, classy, art and a piano! If you want that Humphrey Bogart Casa Blanca evening- come here. For years I've been coming here expecting them to compromise their quality and ambiance- and they don't! The food is varied and quality fantastic. You know you're at a great restarant/bar when guest stop eating and drinking to applaud the pianist after each song.

Small art gallery, smoking lounge and live music

By Miamismith305 |

Cafe Catula is a restaurant with a small art gallery, a smoking lounge, and live music. They specialize in Italian and Spanish cuisine with a slight touch of Cuban. Even though the restaurant is set-up nicely and offers a romantic ambiance, the food did not fulfill our expectations. The portions on the plates are large and the restaurant has good service.

Service is slow so make sure you’re not in a hurry.

By Abel R |

Parking is $5 valet. Restaurant is on the first floor. The ambiance is good and elegant, beautiful pieces of art displayed throughout the restaurant. My family enjoyed their meal. The only downside was that where we were sitting the A/C vent in the ceiling was dripping water on my mother. Not good.

A hidden treasure

Twice in a week. We first came for my boss go away dinner and I loved the food. I came home and told my husband that we have to go back so last night we did. This time we sat at the bar and ordered different tapas. The ambiance is good, the food amazing and the service outstanding. One of the best octopus I have eaten, the corvina ceviche was very fresh and delightful , the stuffed mushrooms excellent and the scallops like butter. Our bartender Victor was charming , delightful , knowledgable about wines and made me a great lychee martini We asked if we could meet the chef and he came out and conversed with us for a while. Loved his enthusiasm and his cuisine Overall, great experience even with our previous sit down dinner. Will definitely go back with our friends

Good Food, Nice Restaurant

By ArielMillan |

This place is hard to find, but when you do, you will like the quality of the food. Also, the restaurant is really nice inside even though it is in an office building. It rivals the decor of nicer restaurants in busy restaurant-row parts of the city.

It was a truly amazing experience. The walls have very fine art pieces and a baby grand will serenade you during dinner. The staff was professional and experienced. clean and modern

Pick and choose

By Andrea C |

Came here during Miami Spice days. Apparently some of the items are really good now and some so- so. Tables are presented with a warm bread roll basket and butter. The appetizer salad was tasty and fresh with a delightful variety of ingredients. The cod fish croquettes had us wondering where was the cod? The duck was prepared well and tasty with some vegetables and noodles. The pork cubes with black beans and rice was over cooked. Two chucks out of the four were totally unedible. The dessert crepe was excellent. Service was attentive. We missed the piano player.

Wonderful Dining experience!

Had lunch at Cafe Catula today for the first time for a lunch meeting with a client. Client selected the restaurant as one of their favorites. Pleasant to discover they had complimentary valet service and very friendly attendants. Greeting promptly inside, and I must say the entrance with the art exhibits is very nice. We were seated for our lunch even though it was 10 minutes before they opened. The staff was extremely professional, courteous, and prompt. The hot rolls were brought out with a divine little dish with a sauce, I believe sun dried tomato based, for dipping. Fresh hot rolls were wonderful and so was the dipping sauce. We were given the option of the regular menu or the "Miami Spice" 3 course special. We opted to order from the regular menu and were provided a delightful mixed greens salad that was just the right size for before a meal. Then our entrees were brought out, a risotto with salmon and the Canneloni di Pollo. Both were divine! It was one of the smoothest tasting risotto dishes I have had in a very long time. With the bread and rolls, the entrees was more than enough food, and we both optioned to leave half for take-out boxes. My client wanted dessert, so we ordered the coconut flan and the chocolate mouse. They were outstanding! I highly recommend this place for lunch, and for a business meeting meal. There is a piano at one end of the dining room, and a pianist played throughout out 2 hour meeting, and it was delightful..

Excellent food

By Naida N |

I love this place I can’t believe I haven’t eaten here before. The lunch menu was a 3 course meal for $21. The camaron enchilado with risotto was great.

Outside doesn’t not do it justice.

By Jrstwo |

Surprised of the lace. A friend recommended it to us and what a different atmosphere from the the outside. Far from a strip center or office building Resturant. The food was very good. No one had a bad dish. Ricotta, duck, ravioli spot on. They had a special that included your salad, main course, deserts all part of it. A big savings oh yea glass of wine too. Only draw back device very slow, but for us it was good as had not seen our guests so it was pleasant fir us. Others were not that pleased. A return.

Excelente lunch specials, top quality service

By Julio V |

Meal was excellent , menu selection too. Service was very attentive without being bothersome. Recommend lunch and happy hour, it is noisy for dinner. Very convenient free valet parking at lunch.

Great lunch option

By mommytravels |

Came for lunch, with only an hour available to do so. The place was almost empty, which for. First time visitor is always scary. The decor is nice, as is the space. Who knew something this nice was here on 87th Ave? The cod croquettes were yummy...I put lemon on mine, but they come with a sweet sauce on the side for dipping. The starter salad was a perfect portion with a wonderfully light dressing. I ordered the fettuccine with seafood...very tasty, but filling. I couldn't get dessert, as I was stuffed. I want to return for dinner and try the fish, which my friend says is excellent.

Interesting new place

By Andres v |

This restaurant is new to us, the attention was very good, serving staff helpful and pleasant, something you don't get too often in Miami! Food presentation is artistic and beautiful, and food is very good. The place is busy and can be a bit on the loud side, but nothing unbearable.

Fine dining at a discreet location.

By Sandor G |

Perfectly nestled in an unassuming area of East Kendall you would never guess such a gem has been quietly laying in wait for your arrival. A fusion of Cuban, Spanish, and Italian, Cafe Catula offers an eclectic mix of the best each country has to offer. Delicious pastas, creamy risottos, melt in your mouth osso bucco, tapas, and an array of other delights. The space is as elegant as the food. Part piano bar and part gallery, you'll be dining along side brilliant sculptures and admirable paintings worthy of any fist class museum.

Be careful about your reservation time

By Marie G |

Friendly staff, unfriendly owner. You would be ask to leave the table and don't even finish what ever you are having if the time for the show comes and you don't want to pay the $55.00 per person for the show. This happens to us, we were consuming from the time we arrive with martinis, 2 bottle of wine, appetizers, main course, desert we ask for the check and were having our coffee when we were ask to leave the table or pay the $55.00. They would not care if you have been consuming non stop from the moment you arrive, and they would not inform you about this at the time of your reservation. Would not visit this restaurant again. Very unprofessional owner. Hopefully I will see a change of management real soon.!!!

Just ok.. was expecting more...

By jamescasonjr |

Just ok. Had lunch today and was not impressed. I had the set menu of soup, lasagna and dessert.. the soup was good. The lasagna was not very good.. the dessert dead ok.. we also had octopus and ham. The octopus was not great, I was expecting something much better from a Spanish restaurant...

Fantastic restaurant

By AnaZad |

Happy to have found such a good restaurant nearby. We went to celebrate a family occasion and it was great for it. The food is delicious, offering a great variety of appetizers, tapas, and main entries. The home made pasta was excellent. The decoration, music, service, and even the height of the place were fantastic. Easy parking. Look forward to go back again.

Great place great food great piano bar and great happy hours nice place to fo after work or weekends with friends

Great service and food

By HectorFL |

We had dinner there last night. The place is beautiful and elegant, cozy, and there is a duo playing music in a corner. They also have a small beautiful bar as you come in to the restaurant. The greeting and service received was outstanding from the onset. The menu is a combination of Spanish, Italian and other International dishes. They have a good selection of Spanish tapas and wines by the glass. The codfish croquettes were very good, as well as the soup of the day which was garbanzo. The porcini risotto dish with tenderloin was excellent, as well as the risotto with asparagus and shrimp. We will definitely come back.

Just Average

By JAM |

Mix feelings...some plates were really good (tuna tartare, kids pasta) and some others were far from it (Scallops). Service was only average, waiters attention was not easy to get....

awesome neighborhood spot

By mark r |

Café Catula has a great happy hour menu and very reasonable 4:30 to 8:00 happy hour. Wonderful Argentinian dishes in a very stylish atmosphere with outdoor seating available. Ask for Victor at the bar.

AMAZING MEAL!

By Maria R |

The most delicious meal I have had in a while! Strongly recommend Cafe Catula! The food, service and ambience make it a wonderful experience. The live piano music was delightful to have in the background. It is like having dinner in an art gallery. There are paintings and sculptures all through the restaurant which make for a beautiful decor. The art and sculptures are for sale too! We were there for dinner to celebrate my mother's birthday! Will definitely be back. I also recommend it for a romantic dinner!

Romatic Evening

By Liliana2013515 |

Visited Cafe Catula with family and friends for an evening of good dinning and watch Late Night Live Mini Concert of Amaury Gutierrez. This place offers great ambiance, good food, prices an overall great evening until 2:30 AM. This is not a typical restaurant just for dinner, you get music and mini concerts, very very nice. This was my first time here and will defenitely will come back.

Good food + poor service = Average

By SeatOfMyPntsTravelr |

I brought a friend and her mother here for lunch. While the food quality was fine the service was terrible. The place probably only had 2 other covers and yet it took forever to get our food. My friend and her mother repeatedly asked for more bread and more bread NEVER came. It was really disappointing especially since it was my friend's mother's first meal out of the hospital.

Excellent food. long waits, crowded and noisy

By Josebsan |

Had a superb octupus in a paprika sauce, very well cooked and tasty. The only thing I did not like were the green plantains (tostones) which had become soggy.Who ever thought of putting tostones in a sauce? Shared a snapper with wife also done very well. My problems were that the kitchen took too long to prepare, the place was extremely crowded and noisy with very small tables right next to each other. Obviously management wanted to maximize the use of space. If you like good food but can stand a table you do not fit in and noise that prevents you from hearing your partner, this may be the place for you. Otherwise I would have given it a 5 star. In my opinion if management wants to succeed they have to address these issues.

Fabulous Evening!

By Wendy F |

Our family visited this restaurant to see entertainer Orlando, and was pleasantly surprised by the delicious dinner. Fantastic service and recommendation by our server. All our meals were delicious, especially the Oso Bucco. The beef carpaccio and crab cake appetizers were the best. This is a very nice intimate setting for dinner with family, friends or a romantic evening. Highly recommended.

Neighborhood gem

By Cathie D |

Excellent food in a charming atmosphere. Live late night music. We enjoyed our visit but the restaurant is quite loud. Great place to go with friends.

Excellent food and service.

By H. T |

The staff was attentive and friendly. The prices were very reasonable for lunch; and the food was delicious. I would definitely recommend the restaurant. Parking is difficult in the building since it is full of medical offices and during the week it is hard to find a spot. Valet parking was not available the day I visited, which was on a Wednesday. Luckily, we were able to find a spot on the street not to far away. The weekend may be better since most medical offices are closed. I would not let the parking difficulty deter you from visiting this restaurant. I will definitely be back. I liked the piano player in the background and the artwork was interesting. The bathroom was spotless and modern.

Not too big restaurant but a perfect size and very elegant ...

By Jose Miguel Velazquez |

This place is great!!! ...from the ambiance, the art pieces, the decor, the food specially prepared and presented … is just awesome!!! Few times here and I just loved it. We came here as a surprise and what a pleasant surprise it was. Located in East Kendall, not too big of a restaurant but a perfect size and very elegant. Fine art decorates the walls the minute you walk in and where your seated. The bar is pretty and all lit up, wine cellar on the wall with excellent wines. It's just so pretty. We looked at the menu and what a tough decision it was. We kept on choosing one thing and then finding another and then the Miami Spice menu just made it easier. I strongly recommend the Grilled Octopus (the best in Miami) and any of the four Risottos (specially the Risotto di Macitas). We would all choose something different and try each time we visit the restaurant. The whole staff is super, knowledge waiters and bar tenders. Specially to mention Yordi, a young lady very friendly and efficient as well as Victor who treated us like a family, very respectful and making the right suggestions per our inquiries. Covered parking with valet parking, piano bar with excellent music (at proper volume) to make the dinner fantastic and romantic. Don’t miss it. Complete satisfaction guaranteed.

SUMMER ADULT COZY DINNER

By Eveprzz |

We went to Café Catula on a Sunday evening for dinner. I have to say the place is adorable its not only a restaurant but it also serves as an Art Gallery. Catula is the perfect setting for a romantic dinner for couples or a dinner with family they have an amazing happy hour as well. They have music on the weekends they have jazz and a gentleman who plays the piano. Okay let's get to the food!! Their food is amazing I have had many different plates and I'm never disappointed. Oh BTW, the White Sangria is AMAZING!!!!! Visit Café Catula you will not be disappointed!

A must GO!!

By Mabol13 |

This restaurant was recommended by my daughter and also my boss. We decided to give it a try today and we were very pleased!! Service and food was just amazing!! I must say it has been a while since I have been impressed by any restaurants within the Miami area, but I must say it was absolutely great!! The chitorras and bacalao croquetas are by far the best I have had in a while. I also recommend the Cafe Catula Filet Mignon stuffed with goat cheese!! Wow!! Just yummy yum yum!!! I will definitely come back again and again!!!

Not impressed

Maybe we went on the wrong night but everything was just average. The wine, food, service etc was mediocre. I had heard great things. Too bad.

Terrific Dining Experience

By ray raposo |

Four couple went for dinner last Friday at Café Catula. We have all been here before both together and with other friends. Once again we were more than pleased with the whole experience, from the atmosphere, the service and specially the food. My Red Snapper with mashed potatoes and vegetables was exquisite. And I may add a very healthy portion, unlike some restaurants that the portions are either tiny or humongous, theirs is just right. A couple of my friends had one of the Lobster dishes and raved about the taste as well. Their creative Ravioli is always good as it was on this visit. All their sauces are outstanding. They also offer a large selection of imaginative Appetizers both cold and hot with a seafood flair. The Menu, while international and Italian influenced also has a Spanish-Cuban feel, so you'll see plantains and sides of rice if you don't want potatoes. Café Catula has a full bar and can serve any mixed drink as well as wine. They also have a piano player providing soft background music so you can still enjoy a nice conversation with people at your table, unlike some places that the music is so loud you can't hear a thing. To end the meal we had their Creme Brulle dessert which was better than most and worth the price specially when sharing. The restaurant is also a small art gallery and they have a few interesting sculptures on display specially as you enter. The servers take care of the customers, your water glass is always refilled! The entrance is under cover, so never a worry of rain when you visit. There's a $5.00 Valet parking at the entrance, or you can park yourself in the parking garage that's attached. I highly recommend Café Catula, located just off Sunset Drive and on 87th Avenue.

Not Worth The Money

By Qbrit |

Yes, the atmosphere is nice but what matters is the food and service. The dish of the day was Sea Bass it was expensive $35.00 especially for what was served. Sautéed with too much butter and served with very little veggies soaked in the sauce. I did not like the mixture of maduros and a plantain chip again soaked in the sauce. My friend felt the same. The bar selection is very poor. After our meal the table was not cleaned. Crumbs, pieces of food left on the table. I will not return nor recommend Café Catula.

Very fancy, but still in Kendall

By Lexer75 |

This place is very nice. Decoration is great, very fancy. You would never think you're on 87ave. The food is always great. This time they sat us in a small table next to a wall. The place was empty. Oh well, I won't hold that against them. Great food.

check this place out

So this place is owned by the former owner of a restaurant by my wife and I frequented many times. And this place is definitely our new go to place. It's a little pricey but the food is so different from anything else that it's well worth it.

"GOOD (OVERALL) BUT..."

By CROMWELL2016 |

Went for dinner at this restaurant earlier this year to celebrate a family birthday. The restaurant interior is very well appointed and elegant. The food was very well prepared, nicely presented and delicious and Service was very good BUT: The appetizer and some of the entree portions are very small for the price. BEST ENTREE: The Risotto di Masitas, a Cuban twist on this dish with sweet plantains, black beans and pork chunks, delicious ! BEST DESSERT : The Guava Flan, very good ! Good restaurant for special occasions. In my opinion for couples not for families because of the small portions for the price.

Delicious

We had a great experience. I first visited the restaurant for an event and had to take my husband to try it. We loved the ambiance and food was great, just as I had remembered. Staff was friendly and quick. I definitely recommend this place.
