Overcooked bacon (coal level!) and raw potatoes. Basic breakfast gone completely wrong. Avoid this place!

Absolutely fantastic. Their mochas are very satisfying and wonderful quality. If you're looking for a popular hit hidden in the city, this is it!

Didn't have reservations at a restaurant and needed a place to eat before a show at the SF Playhouse (which was excellent, by the way :)). This is a tiny place and you could walk right by. The food was excellent! The kale and quinoa salad was great, so was the salmon and a nice bottle of wine for $30 - this place is a gem! Bought some pastries, too for a late night snack. Highly recommend!

This place serves fabulous coffee and a great selection of food choices. Drinking a latte with a plate of scrambled eggs with black beans is a great way to start the day. It's small, so larger groups aren't easy to manage - but for two or three people there is no problem

The coffee was good and the egg and chorizo scramble I had was fabulous. Service was quick and very friendly. I didn't try the pastries, but I will be making a return trip to do that. The looked outstanding.

But will again after a tasty rancheros breakfast. Wife had g/free version without the quesadilla. Very good coffee, freshly ground and snapped me out of the jet lag. Friendly service.

This was a great place to eat! You order at the counter and they bring your food to you. A little pricey for breakfast but not horrible for San Fransisco and the portions were big and great, so in the end worth it and would for sure eat here again!

my wife & I were looking for something to take back to our room @ Club Donatello, served the purpose, nothing to write home about.

Small but good place, we ordered a salad and a sandwich, they were good, we had a slide of carrot cake which was good too. A little pricy for the place.

We took a chance on this little place and were happy we did. My steak / tomato / arugula salad was really tasty. Coffee was good too. And you have to love it when you get handed a number to put on your table. At first glance it appears that there are only a few tables....but there is additional seating in an upper room at the back.

We asked an employee at DSW where to eat breakfast and she directed us to most marvelous breakfast we've ever tasted! The eggs in the breakfast burrito were creamy and delicious. Every employee we met was kind and helpful. We will be back!

My partner and I arrived in San Francisco the night before. We checked trip advisor for a breakfast place near the hotel and decided to check this one out. Its an order at the counter cafe that has a menu on the wall like you see in many places in San Fran. Once we place our orders and found a seat in this little cozy cafe our food came out quickly in a very generous proportion. It tasted amazing and hit the spot for a day of playing tourist. I had a scramble and fresh fruit. She had eggs potatos and bacon everything was perfectly seasoned. We would go back again if we are ever back in town. If you are looking for a big breakfast in union square check out this small but awesome place.

Me and my wife enjoyed the delicious breakfast at la taza specially "the mission","taza fruit" &" french toast". Staff are not very friendly and place is small but the food is great and worth the price!

Friendly staff. Great food and stellar coffee! Great hidden jewel in the heart of downtown San Francisco!

Charming small cafe near Union square for yummy quick bites. We ate their twice for lunch. They have a Cuban spin on their food. Our group ate a range from soup to salad to hot sandwiches to breakfast. Everyone loved their food. The seating is up some narrow stairs on a tiny mezzanine. The lomo saltado was great, as was the steak salad. They also make nice espresso drinks and small desserts. Proprietress was friendly and staff brought our food up to us.

Small but very good food for the money. Good for on the go a great location we had breakfast and coffee there

Just don't bother with breakfast here, cramped and below average food. Coffee is fine an the OJ is good. Service is average.

Had a “Californian chicken sandwich” - warm grilled chicken with an enormous side salad and a very nice dressing. Big portion and tasty. Americano very good too. Not the most upmarket of decor but good solid eatery.

I wanted to get away from the long lines of the chain breakfast places around my hotel, so I stopped here. The atmosphere was much more laid back and quiet, and the service was very good. I had one of the egg and bacon breakfast sandwiches, and it was delicious. There was so much egg in there that you probably could have made another sandwich with it- it was great! I would highly recommend even if you are busy and have to take your order to go.

I had breakfast here three mornings. Great pastries and breakfast sandwiches. According to San Francisco standards pretty reasonable. My only complaint would be the lady taking the orders. She was not friendly at all, and very impatient. The place was stuffy, you will want to get your order as take out.

This place was pretty popular but we discovered it early on and then treated ourselves to breakfast there again on our last day. I had the fruit with yoghurt and granola. Yum. My husband had the eggs the first time which he loved. And then the French toast the second time - again "quite yummy" he said. Great coffee, especially the Mexican Mocha.

while staying in a nearby hotel we wondering into La Taza one morning looking for a breakfast bite & good cup of coffee. We were ignored at the entrance & getting a bad vibe from that we departed and spent our $50 down the street!

A colleague of mine recommended I go to Cafe Taza for breakfast while in San Francisco for work. Taza did not disappoint. The place is very small but they have an upstairs area that is both quiet and comfortable. Their coffee selection is good and was very tasty. On my first visit not being too hungry, I ordered their oatmeal with fruit and was very good. The next morning I went for their tasty Valencia scramble with fruit cup and wheat toast also a very hearty dish. The atmosphere is good with friendly service and good quality food. I will definitely be going back if my plans take me back to San Fran. I think I’ll go for lunch next time. Enjoy!

I took a group of business associates out for a quick lunch. The service was quick, staff was friendly and food was delicious. We all ordered different things...salads, quesadillas, sandwiches....all delicious. It's a quaint little place that you order at the register and they bring the food to your table.

I will be back again and again for this dish in particular. I will add some more heat to at the table next time. I was so hungry it went right down the hatch. Thank you La Taza!!

Went here for lunch on our first day in the city. Excellent value for money and a great variety of interesting sandwiches/bagels/paninis - not just your usual ham and cheese. Food came out very quickly and served by friendly staff. Definitely recommended for people looking to eat in casual surroundings away from the chains located around Union Sq.

We had breakfast here once in november and the girl at the front was very rude. He rushed our order even though we were the only ones ordering. He messed up our order and then threw my bagel on my tabel saying is my mistake as I wasn’t clear about what I wanted. Darling, If you thought I wasn’t clear you should have asked me again to make it clear, don’t just take the order as if it might be okay and then make a scene because you had a bad morning. I am giving 2 stars because the bagel that she messed up, was good. (yes, she didn’t even wanted to change my bagel) I honestly don’t know how this place has good reviews, because this is why we went here.

Have had breakfast (eat-in chorizo scramble) and dinner (take-out churrasco). Let's face it - it's a small place; it has a spartan decor, but the food is excellent. The portions were more than adequate, the churrasco was perfectly done (I asked for it medium-rare). A nice little selection of baked goods. It's not fancy but it was excellent.

We went to this place after reading the reviews and we were not disappointed. This is a very small place, but it does have 7 tables for people to enjoy breakfast (or anything) and have delicious coffee. We had some huevos rancheros, fruit and an awesome orange juice. The only thing is that I think it was a little overpriced (we ended up paying around 40 dls for breakfast for 2). Maybe it’s just SF prices, maybe it’s because downtown is expensive. Still, I’m happy we went and I do recommend it.

Tasty and innovative food - well prepared. Service was slow. Seating is weird - bunch of tables with reserved signs that never seemed to get filled. Can get hot too. But damned fine food -- kind of mediocre coffee

My sister and I ate breakfast here every morning during our 4 day stay in San Francisco. We were staying in the hotel next door and they recommend we eat here. The food was delicious and reasonably priced plus the service was great. They also do nice cups of tea! We’d definitely go back for breakfast next time we’re in San Francisco!

Had the Valencia Scramble with fresh squeezed OJ...great choice. Carmel macchiato coffee very good. The Brentwood Scramble also very good. You probably can't go wrong here. Great little joint.

It was the perfect spot for brunch & coffee on a day of sightseeing! Excellent service & food! Close to Union Square & the cable car. Reasonable prices.

A very rude lady at the desk. We decided to leave before even finishing our order. A lot need to be done to improve the customer service here.

Basic ambience, lucky to spot it on our first day, returned every day for the best latte in SF !!!!! lunch and breakfast also pretty good and excellent value, friendly efficient no-nonsense staff, small but more tables upstairs, and right next to Union Square

Cafe La Taza is a tiny cafe near Union Square with great service. Their inexpensive and tasty breakfast includes the best bacon on the planet. La Taza also has a great location near Union Square. I highly recommend this breakfast restaurant.

both times we went in the food was done while we waited and quickly. The staff was very friendly. Place was small but very clean.

Great little find, just off union square. Well worth a visit, reasonably priced for the area and plenty of choice! Burrito was amazing

I am staying at a hotel half block away. Went to this Crepe Cafe but it was so crowded, so I decided to skip breakfast. But on the way to Union Square I walked by this cute little cafe, almost missed it. Clearly I had missed all those times I visited SF. Anyway, there was a little wait. The food was DELICIOUS and reasonable. My new FAV place. I came back at lunch for more food. Too bad they don't open longer, closed at 2:30 daily. Great breakfast. Great Salads! LOVE THIS GEM!

We went to this place for breakfast expecting so much more based on the reviews but unfortunately it just wasn’t anything more than a little basic cafe. My partner ordered a full special breakfast and they had run out of bacon ... but didn’t substitute with any extra sausage or anything. Our breakfasts came at different times (10 minutes apart) which wasn’t great...so we didn’t get to eat together.

We went here upon the recommendation of a staff member at the hotel in which we were staying. She did not steer us wrong! I had a La Taza salad (the first time) with grilled salmon. The viniagrette dressing was perfect! The food was so tasty that we went again on another day, and I had a delicious turkey club sandwich and a small La Taza salad. It is a small cafe with an upstairs area to eat (the downstairs is not very spacious). It was perfectly comfortable and not loud.

Me and my wife out for a stroll. Came in at about 9:30 am. Not a big place nor fancy, it was not crowded but busy. We ordered the scrambled eggs (Napa and Valencia), and OJ. Excellent flavour, fast service. Definitely recommend it!

Downstairs was kind of breezy so we sat upstairs, which was nice. The breakfast and coffee were good.

Perfect for me and anyone who wants to explore the big box places. This quaint family place has your usual fare— bagels, coffee, eggs— but the pastries here are perfect for the on the go visitor. Disfruten!

On a recommendation from the hotel we stopped in for a quick bite and we weren't disappointed. Very quick, great sandwich.

Oh man! Homemade chorizo in an egg sandwich on sourdough bread. Absolutely fantastic! Ate here two mornings in a row. Right across the street from the Westin.

This unassuming cafe was recommended to us by our hotel concierge. My friend and I shared the Chicken Pesto Panini and Ahi Tuna Wrap. They were delicious!! I was surprised a little cafe would have such good food. I recommend it to anyone wanting a quick but delish lunch.

Small place with extra seating upstairs(but very warm). Order at counter, sit down and food is delivered to the table when ready. Food is not cheap but good.

Been here few time, great place for a quick lunch, located just few min walk from the Union Square. The cafe has free wifi & drinking water, up stairs seating. Food is great - I tried the Cuban Sandwich and Chicken Quesadilla, both were delicious, portions were big and at a good price. The breakfast however wasn't as nice.

I visited here after a long morning run, coming in hungry. I was staying nearby in The Westin, and this establishment came recommended by the Concierge. It's not a huge cafe - it has a narrow entrance with further seating upstairs. As there was no queue, I was quickly asked if I was ready to order. I wanted something substantial, so I went for their number 2 on the breakfast board. I had to repeat myself three times to the chewing gum chawing sales associate, who seemed more distracted by what was happening around me (very little), than to what I was asking. Once I had ordered, my coffee was placed in front of me and this impatient lady served the next customer. Holding my table service number, I wasn't sure if the food was delivered to the table for me, or if I was to collect it. That instruction had not been forthcoming, until I was barked at to sit down with a wave of a hand. Suitably chastised for not reading her mind and no signs stating same, I took a seat on a raised platform near the front door. I had entered at 10am, probably after a morning rush. My table had not been wiped down, as many others had not been also. That aside, the food was very good. The coffee was good too and as I exited, I was unsure whether to leave my plate on the table or to return it somewhere. Afraid of another public rebuke, I chose to clear my table and leave it at the coffee station, where at least I put my rubbish in the bin. It was $14 in total, a fair price for downtown San Francisco. The service, was unique however.

Stopped in today and had lunch. Had a spinach salad wrap with grilled chicken. It was wonderful very flavorful on a spinach wrap with mushrooms onions tomatoes in a balsamic dressing, My boyfriend had the California chicken sandwich on ciabatta bread with a side salad. With a beer and a diet coke lunch was $28. Big servings, intimate atmosphere in a small setting . You can even at a table in the front window! Would definitely eat here again. They appear to offer numerous coffee latte beverages with a large clientele.

Our breakfast was very good but a very crowded stuffy feel to the room. We ate upstairs and breakfast brought to us which was very convenient.

A very extensive breakfast menu and every was really fresh. Freshed squeezed OJ. Plus a large selection of danish/treats

We arrived in SF really early and checked into our hotel. We wanted breakfast and Cafe La Taza was highly recommended. We went there and ordered the Huevos Rancheros which were 13.50 USD an consisted of two over-medium eggs served over a quesadilla topped with homemade ranchero sauce & served with black beans & sour cream & guacamole. I know that sounds like a lot to pay, but it isn’t. The portions are HUGE but more importantly the quality and taste are worth twice as much. Two over-medium eggs served over a quesadilla topped with homemade ranchero sauce & served with black beans & sour cream & guacamole

Stopped in for lunch before a tour. Great staff, quick service with really tasty food ( we had sandwiches and bagels). The price was really cheap for what we ordered and the coffee was better than any I have had since arriving in the USA 2 weeks ago.

Great food, nice coffee and tea selection, tasty fresh orange juice. Try their La Taza Fruit, delicious!

We were going to the San Francisco Playhouse and wanted a coffee before the show. This fit the bill. It is small and can feel cramped if there's a crowd but the Mexican mocha was very good. There is a small area upstairs but can feel warm since the heat rises there. You have a view of the downstairs. I would go back if I am in the area.

My husband and I ate at Cafe La Taza for breakfast and chose it because it was just a couple doors down from our hotel. We were so glad we did and would have gone back if it wasn't our last day in San Francisco. The portions were large and everything was so delicious. The prices were also great - especially for the amount of food they serve! We drove the PCH from San Diego to San Francisco and this was the best breakfast (and best value) we had by far!

We were at Cafe la Taza for breakfast. Good and inexpensive fresh food and coffee. Good for a quick breakfast.

Read the reviews and decided to head down with my Mom. Ordered the Huevos Rancheros and the Napa Scramble. Rancheros aced it. Spicy sauce was tangling, black beans well cooked and the eggs with cheese was baked to perfection. Coffee was good as well. My Mom insisted on visiting again, so we went there twice during our stay.

We tried several different items on the menu, along with coffee and hot chocolate. Everything was exceptional. Service was good and fast and they were busy, but everyone got taken care of quickly. Only wish I would have gotten a chance to try the chocolate chip cookies because they looked outstanding and the Russian Tea Cakes. Hopefully next time! So many choices, so little time to eat them all.

We stopped in for a light lunch after arriving in San Francisco. We shared a Kale con Quinoa wrap, which was a delightful vegetarian of Latino and Indian flavors. If the rest of the menu is as good, would highly recommend.

Early morning is a popular spot for the local crowd. The coffee bar, pastries, breakfast, soup & sandwich is to die for! We were lucky to find this place as we stayed next door at the Kensington Park Hotel. The concierge recommended this lovely place. GO!! You will not be disappointed.

whilst visiting The Bay we were staying on Post and happened by chance on this little gem. Great efficient service and oh yeah "the Food"!!! We returned every morning for a week to get one of the best breakfasts ever. if you like a little kick start in the morning just try the Mission Scramble Breakfast, eggs with mushrooms, scallions (spring onion to us brits), sausage and Jalapenos, with fried potato, the biz. we barely ate the rest of the day till dinner at about 8pm. in a word "Fantastic"

We were looking for a simple but good breakfast, and I didn't expect it to be that good, the fruit was really fresh and the sandwiches are reaaaaally good, the staff is really kind and nice; the place is a bit small but we'll what in San Francisco isn't. Would come back

La taza was around the corner from our hotel. Their oatmeal was one of the best we had during our trip. The place is popular and that is a good sign. Very good food.

Don't stop in for a coffee thinking you won't get a pastry of some kind ... you will crumble! My favorite little cafe in San Fran. Excellent espresso and always a few pastries to chose from .... today was Raspberry Oatmeal bar. There is no way I miss stopping in tomorrow.

Prices were reasonable especially for UNion Square area. Perhaps 10 tables, casual. If your hotel has a pricey breakfast, just a walk to this little shop will save you money and full your belly. Nice selection of salads too.

Delicious breakfast burritos. Giant Russian tea cakes. Very friendly staff. A great place to grab a quick bite before setting out for the day.

We came here as it was near our hotel and it was on the last day. So glad we did as I ordered oatmeal and it came with blueberries and raisins and it was thinner than I am used to but I really enjoyed it and my husband had an omelette and said it was nice. Nice wee place and service was good and friendly servers too.

We dined here for breakfast today & my wife’s egg dish (#2) was very nice, my 7 grain oatmeal was so good. 2 Mexican Mochas super tasty. Fresh squeezed OJ - perfect. Everything is made fresh & fast with a hard working staff & cook team. Highly recommend this place.

We were staying at Union Square and enjoyed this small cafe for a tasty breakfast before heading out for a full day. The smoked chicken mango jalapeño sausage was amazing and the black beans in the side quite tasty.

For a small Cafe it's a fabulous place, we found it whilst out walking and wanted a little something to keep us going. I had the Spinach Salad whilst my husband had the Lomo Saltado Sanswich, Fresh orange juice and coffee. It was all freshly mad, beautifully presented, and the flavours where fantastic. I would certainly recommend and am hoping to go back for a take out for our trip to Sausalito today. It was a busy place at lunchtime but watching the hustle and bustle just added to the place.

Somewhat 'quaint' and basic, but we could not fault the food nor the friendly service. Good coffee too. You can get sandwiches and salads to go, which is good.

Lunch places around the city especially the smaller venues can be quite good. We had an arugula salad with almonds and Parmesan cheese. The spinach wrap with bacon, hard boiled egg and feta was our other choice. Both were very good!

Good spot for a reasonably priced, quick meal. Friendly service and great food. Good breakfast and coffee.

We’re staying near Union Square, and this little coffee shop is a great find. I’m definitely a coffee snob and I thought the Americano and latte we ordered were exceptional. The baked goods (raspberry oat bar and tiny apricot pie) were fresh, plentiful and delicious! I didn’t get the breakfast but the couple sitting next to the door on the way out both had delicious looking egg scrambles and I’m sorry I missed the chance!

Tried the Bay Scramble (#6) and the the coffee. The scramble was okay. The coffee was GREAT. Went back the next morning just for the coffee, the coffee, the coffee!

We stayed in a hotel close by and I ran down in the morning to get a quick breakfast to take back to the room. It must be a popular place because it was very busy. The menu is varied from pastries and breakfast sandwiches to healthy options such as 7 grain oatmeal. Lots of specialty coffees too. They have seating available as well. Would def recommend this place and will be back.

came in for a quick breakfast, had some great scrambled eggs. Considering the central location, was just what we needed. my colleague had the coffee and she said it was the best she had in the US. She even wanted to put it on twitter!

Visited whilst in San Francisco for breakfast. Food was very average and very expensive for what we had. Eggs, bacon, toast and coffee x 2 was $60!

Came across this place accidentally when looking for somewhere to have breakfast. Not a huge menu but enough to satisfy different choices. Reasonably priced, quick service and great tasting food. My wife and I both had the #1 - scrambled eggs with potatoes and English muffin. Yum!

Hard to find a place with English style options but here you can have vanilla yogurt topped with granola and delicious fresh fruits for 7$ and they will do scrambled eggs soft style on whole wheat toast and just toast and jam if you like. Had 2 breakfasts with coffee for 12$ and it was fresh and delicious.

true, it is a small restaurant and you'll be happy you tried it. I had eaten here before with a friend and had to go again. I was glad I did 'cuz this time I tried a couple of their sweet offerings. the coffee cake with a crumble topping was perfect for a before class snack. the pecan bar was SO good! a light cookie crust loaded with pecans. can't wait to go back and sample more of their offerings.

I wasn't in the mood to search for the nearest overprice burnt coffee location and opted for this small place across from the St Francis. The coffee was really good, a wide selection of fresh pastries/coffee cake. They were friendly and the price was very reasonable. Everything tasted better knowing I was supporting a local business that must struggle to survive in high rent SF.

A good range of cafe style food and easy to choose healthy but delicious options. Reasonably priced, delicious food!

Have lunch at least once a week. Take out is fast and convenient. Food consistently good and reasonably priced. I'm definitely a loyal customer and will continue to be.

We stayed at the Westin @ Union Square. You get here the same breakfast like in the Hotel for half the price. We had plate #2 and the fruit plate. Excellent Cappuccinos and large Orange juices. Go upstairs - more quite from the Mexican music 😉

Small coffee place, with Latin flavor, has good coffee, cortado. Good service, the lady behind the counter is quick to serve customers.

My son, wife and I had a late B'fast. Small place with seating for maybe 40, including their 2nd floor area. I had fruit plate-awesome. My wife had the #1 egg pkate- bread, eggs with mushrooms. Son had #2 egg plate - the chicken sausage with jalapeno was a great flavor.

Cafe La Taza is very small, but very good. You walk in and order at the counter, pay and find a seat. My wife and I were in a bit of a hurry or breakfast due to a morning meeting. They brought the food within 5 minutes and it was hot and exactly as ordered. The menu is limited, but I think it has enough choices for a small Cafe. We would defiantly return.

It was just one of those days. It seemed that every restaurant in the Union Square district had a line stretching for half a block when we stumbled past Cafe La Taza - it's easy to miss if you are not careful. I'm glad we didn't miss it. The food is fresh, tasty and cooked to order as well as being reasonably priced. Yes, seating is tight and might not be available - but place your order and hang around. You'll be glad you did. We came back the next day just to repeat the experience.

Really enjoyed the chorizo and egg breakfast sandwich, if I was in San Fran longer would have probably ate breakfast here everyday. Looks small from the outside but there is additional table upstairs.

Really good food for a reasonable price, a small place but quick. Eggs, black beans, and the sound of Latin music fill the air. Very down to earth Make sure to have a cup of the Mexican chocolate or mocha that was really good and the perfect way to start your day in the city

Little ‘hole in the wall’ that delivered big flavor. If you value quality over aesthetics this is the place for you. Delicious coffee, baked items and egg scrambles. The true ambiance is the people. A slice of life in this part of SF.

It’s just off Union Square. So, central. The cafe is small and clearly used by locals. So, genuine and good. The food is (relatively) cheap and utterly delicious: 40 dollars for a superb brunch for two. So go there. You won’t be disappointed.

Had a morning to walk around before heading back to airport. Was looking for a breakfast place but different from the usual ones... and it's always like this, walk around without knowing Weber to go... n you find your place. Small, cosy. A decoration remembering a sort of traditional home Latin, Italian Spanish sense of... not a million choice which is good. Normally it means fresher food n not frozen.. And different offer with a Latin touch. And even some surely home recipe which sounded good. Go for it! Thank you for that nice !

Ordered huevos rancheros and another similar. Unbelievably poor food. Not sure what people have experienced before, but this was not a good choice. Maybe the pastries are really good...

This is a great little place that we found when walking from Union Square. The coffees were very good an the pastry tasted homemade. A place to come back to!

The ladies make a great egg sandwich. The coffee is good. Sit in the window seat and watch people rush to their jobs. Not a lot of frills - the mimosas aren't anything to go out of your way for - but it's my go to place for breakfast when I'm staying by Union Square.

Only gets 4 because we only had coffee. Good location, service, and excellent vibe/ambiance. Great place to hang.

We arrived both tired and hungry and this spot was recommended by our hotel bellhop. It was close...and downhill...and didn't disappoint. A tiny place with five tables. We had a chicken sandwich and a vegetarian sandwich which appeared remarkably quickly. Both were good with arugula instead of the traditional lettuce. A bit messy to eat, but worth every napkin.

We came because of the trip advisor reviews and weren’t disappointed. A small and busy place with great food and coffee.

They just have an excellent service and the food is always delicious as you expect. I will always bring my friends here

This café is very cozy & the food/drinks are great, we were surprised that there was seating upstairs as well since the actual café where you order was packed.

The Brentwood scramble breakfast burrito was hands down the best breakkie burrito I have ever had! I had it 4 times in one week!!!

We had breakfast at La Tazita during our stay in San Francisco. We were truly impressed with the food and service. We were a large group (9 people) and ate there twice, ordering an extensive variety og the Tazita’s menu. Everything was delicious.

Cafe de la Taza is located down the street from Morton's Steakhouse near Union Square. They were open early and we stopped in for a quick bite and coffee to start our day. I ordered a blueberry scone with the Mexican mocha. He had the Orange mocha with a raspberry scone. They have breakfast burritos here but we opted to go light for breakfast. Our drinks were made to order but the service was efficient. The minimum for credit cards is $4 but that's easy to do if you order a specialty drink. They have seating if you are inclined to dine in but most people grab and go.

We stopped by for a quick bite before hitting the San Francisco Playhouse next door. My husband and I split a Cuban with house made potato chips and it was amazing. My husband loves a good Cuban and he said it was the best he'd ever had. Service was quick and friendly, the variety of foods on the menu would please anyone, and the coffee was amazing, too. We'll go back next time we're in San Francisco for sure!

Nice little place to get a quick breakfast and take to Union Square. I had a breakfast burrito and it was amazing

Had lunch, food was very good and fresh! I had roasted chicked and mash potatoes, yummy, a friend has a pot roast that was very good too Recommended

My husband had the hues rancheros and I had the Napa breakfast sandwich. Both were delicious, made with fresh ingredients and served with a smile! Perfect!!!!! I highly recommend.

Excellent choice for breakfast. Cute, quaint place. Cappuccino was tasty. Huevos Rancheros had the perfect „kick“ to them and hit the spot. Staff exceptionally friendly. Additional seating upstairs. Highly recommend.

Was looking for some breakfast before exploring the city. While the food was nice the service was below par for what we’d come to expect from the US (it was more on a par with UK service). Also the place looked a little “tired” and in need of some TLC.

I don't really share the raving previous reviews. The coffee is excellent, the rest of the breakfast is okay. ours was mostly cold, service was rushed. The place is a bit run down. I will return for the coffee, not for the breakfast.

Quaint, friendly staff. Delish! Great value. Daughter found this place and after reading the reviews we had to stop by. Better than expected.

...if you're staying nearby and just want to eat something in your hotel room. I got a lovely large kale/cranberry/walnut salad with bread/butter for just $8 and they package it up really nicely. way better than grabbing a burger at some joint on union square and perfect for a solo traveler wanting to avoid union square after dark!

This is a nice little place close to Union Square, with a few tables on the ground floor and a few more upstairs. They serve Mexican inspired breakfast & sandwiches. The quality of the food is above average, not poor quality, but nothing special. Majority of people who came here seemed to be tourists looking to grab something before going on a tour, or exploring the city. San Fran is an expensive city so everywhere you go you'll be facing at least a $20-30 bill for a basic breakfast choice for two people. Cafe La Taza is no exception. We came here twice and would come again, but would still wince a bit when you're paying $30 for breakfast, fruit juice and coffee for two people. Service is good - you order your food at the counter and then it is served relatively swiftly afterwards. So it's table service (to a degree). Worth a shot coming here.

Stopped in for breakfast and coffee. Reasonably priced breakfast combos with fresh ingredients. Fruit side was especially good!

Everytime I am in San Francisco, I come here for breakfast. The Cafe is very close to Union Square and offers a nice range of breakfast and the best coffee in the area. Prices for breakfast are affordable and quite low (compared to other places in San Francisco). Oatmeal with raisins and cinnamon is $4.5, two scramble eggs with black beans and two slices of toast is $7.25 The restaurant itself offers a few cozy tables and the service is great. The Caffee Latte here is the best in town. Have a great breakfast here and start your day in San Francisco the best way possible.

Next door to Kensington and great breakfast options, there or to go. Ate lunch there once with great homemade soups, lots of options. Fresh squeezed orange juice, great coffee, plain and all the others reasonably priced.

A small cafe (although it has hidden seating upstairs) just off Union Sq. Friendly staff, a nice frenetic ambience, good coffee & juice, moderate huervos rancheros.

Doesn't look too much from the outside but it's worth going in. I had the breakfast granola and fruit. It was a really good sized portion with a good balance between the yogurt and fruit. Good choice of tea. Excellent service. Seating space a little tight. I ate here 3 days in a row it was so good.

Sat in the window table and enjoyed this quaint spot. Had the Napa Scramble that had fresh asparagus and cremini mushrooms with Brie. Yummy breakfast.

Best coffee we have had from the East Coast to the west coast. Excellent food and great prices for San Francisco. Will eat here again.

Recently tried to get food here twice. First time arrived at ^:50 am (20 min) after opening and the kitchen wasn't open until 7am. Second time, we arrive at 7:15am (when it was supposed to be open at 7am) looking forward to finally try the food and the worker's inside were not ready to open. We hung around 5 minutes or so but the workers seemed unconcerned. We left and came back 10 min later and they were still not open. Sorry we won;t be wasting our time waiting on you!!

Trip Advisor is our bible when it comes to travel, and I can't think of another time when reviews were so very very wrong. I don't know what other reviewers are seeing (or tasting) in Cafe La Taza. 'Hole in the wall' - Yes. Greasy spoon - Yes. In fact, my husband and I had reflux from the grease all day. Our 'egg scramble' with chorizo seemed like it maybe was made yesterday and microwaved for our meal. The 'black beans' that came with dish were maybe poured from a can into a bowl - not even drained, and barely microwaved. Let's describe what you will experience: a teeny tiny hallway with a sticky floor where you order your food over a dismal cluttered counter from a harried person. You get your coffee and sit either right in front of this counter or walk upstairs where you get a great view of ceiling pipes and insulation, ancient air conditioner and floor fan. When your 'food' comes, that will be the last service you will receive. The quality of the food is poor, and the ambiance is worse. The service is next to non-existent. There are dozens of other places to eat breakfast near Union Square. Avoid this one.

Nice place just outside the Union square. They serve good breakfast with coffee. Many people pass by and if you are sitting in the window you can enjoy the atmosphere of the city.

Easy to miss...and that is your loss. We did the exploring thing trying different cafes each morning and we ended up going back to La Taza twice in 5 days. Delicious food. We had fantastic coffee cake, AWESOME Brentwood burrito omelet, excellent sausage and eggs. We had a small mix up with our order and the server took it upon herself to fix me an additional meal and bring it to the upstairs eating area. Wonderful, cheerful service. Oh yeah, the coffee is GREAT too! My son loved the caramel whatever... I loved my regular!

There is a full breakfast menu with traditional choices but I recommend trying the options that make use of Spanish ingredients and spices. We ordered the Valencia Scramble (homemade chorizo, tomatoes, onions, bell peppers & jack cheese) and the Napa Scramble (asparagus, cremini mushrooms, chives & brie cheese). Both were nicely balanced and delicious. Note that this restaurant also serves lunch and dinner and appears to be very popular at these times.

I didn't eat a meal there, but this place is convenient to the Donatello or Marriott, and their espresso drinks are very, very good. The Mexican mocha might be addictive. They also have cookies and muffins and a few pastries, and sandwiches.

We were going to try Honey Honey, but the line was way too long. We walked past Cafe LA Taza on our way. So we went back to try it . What a great find. Breakfast was great, very fresh. They have a great variety of foods for breakfast and lunch. They have several specials and fresh pastries. Scott

This place has a really great staff who are extremely kind and want to give you the best experience possible even just for a small cup of coffee. The coffee is really delicious and I recommend trying some of the treats they have!

Busy place on a Friday morning but the staff are very efficient and got the orders out quickly. Really good coffee and the breakfast burrito was filling and made fresh. Friendly staff, would go back again.

This was a great alternative to a hotel breakfast. The Scramble Plates are good value and the service cheery. We're set up for a day of exploring now!

I grabbed a quick coffee (orange mocha) and a Valencia scramble. Cute but small cafe, I was staying at a nearby hotel and wanted an easy breakfast. They do have extra seating upstairs- very friendly and fast! The mocha was perfect and the scramble was a good combination of flavors. Would recommend this place for a quick bite- any meal as they are open all day and also serve beer and wine!

Amazing tomato soup and great atmosphere. Big line up in the morning when we went so we can back another time for lunch instead.

I enjoyed the breakfast. The place is tiny and not pretentious. The service was great and the music was awesome- just to put you in a great mood to start the day.

We went everyday for breakfast - tried to work our way through the varied menu but ran out of time. Food arrived quickly, all freshly cooked. Used by lots of locals - always the measure of a good cafe.

We had been having our morning coffee everyday and today it was breakfast. Huevos rancheros and black beans for me and muesli and fruit salad for the dear one. Excellent, excellent, excellent. Enough said.

The cafe is pretty basic but that is part of its charm. The waitress was clearly extremely busy but in good humour. Our coffees were good, and we had some delicious lemon cake. A little (but basic) gem.

Convenient place, with not so many options but with good and tasty choices. Good for quick breakfast.

Sure, it's not the Ritz but - wow - do they know how do a breakfast! The coffee was best I've had for a while. Very impressed.

Nice little cafe for a coffee or chai, with good breakfast and lunch options. Very small. I believe the chai is homemade, and not too sweet.

Selected this place due to location and higher TA rating. Small line and almost full with additional seating upstairs. Good service and average food. Bill came to $38 for two people, and a pair of coffees for breakfast. Nothing bad to say, but the food was just average.

We went for breakfast, We had the home made granola and the breakfast. We also had orange juice and coffee.. If u go there must try the granola, it was amazingly tasty with fresh fruits! Very good place.

The food was great at this place. The upstairs was closed due to no lighting so we took our food back to the hotel.

The burritos are good sized and tasty. Black beans are great! Best of all, we split a whoopie pie for breakfast dessert.

Arugula wrap with tofu...delicious light eat. Wraps and huge. Does a great huevos rancheros as well. Coffee is pretty good too. It is a tiny cafe though, so not really suitable for large parties

Fantastic cappuccino in a real cup in a cute little place with charm. Bubbly friendly staff And the sandwiches are great. El Cubano Rocks.

Dandy little spot. Great coffee, fresh food, generous portions. Lots and lots of locals were dropping in while we were eating, so we knew we'd made a great choice. :)

We had huevos rancheros and number 2 breakfast, both on the small side compared to what we're used to in the States. Huevos not very attractive to the eye (pool of beans, squirt of sour cream and teaspoon of guacamole), breakfast: dry scrambled eggs. So-so.

This small cafe was very near the Donatello Hotel. This is a very small cafe with limited downstairs seating and more seating up a stairway. The selections are listed behind the counter. You order and pay for your meal. We had two meals. We had a late lunch on a Wednesday where we ate upstairs in the cafe. The salads are excellent and large. My husband ordered a salmon meal that came with garlic mashed potatoes and a vegetable. My Mother ordered a chicken meal (three pieces) that also came with the mashed potatoes and vegetable. I had a salad with chicken and added sides of asparagus and roasted brussell sprouts. Sides were a reasonable $3.50 and main dishes were in the $16 range. We took cookies and a piece of cake "to go." One evening, we picked up "to go" items. Spinach salad with salmon was excellent. The kale and quinoa salad with salmon was also excellent. My Mother stated that the hamburger tasted they way they "used to taste." It was a large burger with a choice of sides. All salads can be purchased with or without different proteins. Three meals, two desserts, two additional sides, three iced tea drinks cost about $60. There was enough food to have leftovers. The staff is pleasant, friendly and open to questions. Just remember that this is a small site with affordable options in a busy, expensive city. I would try to avoid prime hours. They also have a large coffee selections. It is very near Union Square and the Marriott Hotel. I would return.

Great find! Good food...good srevice! Great verity of breakfast and lunch. Off the beaten path. Love the small local establishment.

We stopped here after the first place we tried didn't wait on us. It was a blessing in disguise. Food was great and service was fast. A must try.

Yummy food, delicious coffee and super friendly staff... try the mexican Mocachino (my favorite) and any of their latin plates. #greatplacetoeat

We found this place since it was close by and we're so glad we did! The breakfast and the coffee is delicious! I loved that here were healthy options too. We will be coming back for breakfast tomorrow!

Service was excellent so was the food! We took a Californian Chicken sandwich (not pictured) and a veggie burger both accompanied by a salad and loved every bite of them!! The ice latte was perfect, and they had also fresh orange juice and plenty of homemade sweet to choose from! We ate at the small table in the front of the shop and could feel the great ambiance! Definitely recommend it!

I am in SF every other week, and I eat at Café La Taza at least three times. Yes, it's not much to look at and the first couple times I walked right past it, but once you get past the questionable décor, the food is great. It's made fresh when you order, the menu is extensive; it's not your typical 'fast food' but it's quick, fresh and delicious.

As our nearby hotel didn't provide breakfast, Café La Taza, a few doors down was a welcome place for brunching out. Closest match to a New Zealand "coffee shop" we found in USA. Looks a little shabby from outside but welcoming staff and fresh, non greasy food. Oatmeal with fresh fruit side was really filling.

Stopped in after a long flight and had a lovely lunch. The Thai chicken salad was massive and very tasty and the grilled triple cheese with tomato soup was great too. Split a delicious raspberry oat bar for dessert. Lovely little place with friendly staff.

Great spot for breakfast and lunch. We went here every morning for coffee and breakfast. Loved the little table in the front window for people watching.

Café La Taza is easy to miss, or to think of it as just one of the many breakfast/coffee options. The hand lettered sign listing four dinner entrees kept catching my eye on our many trips past and something told me this was the kind of hole in the wall place that would serve great food known only to the locals. It is only open until 8:00 pm so plan an early dinner. Prices are low. My salmon was a good sized portion served with pan fried Brussel sprouts and chive mashed potatoes. My husband was equally happy with his 1/4 chicken pan roasted and served on fresh spinach with a garlic bread muffin. The portions aren't huge so you won't feel overstuffed.

We went to Cafe La Taza after reviewing the positive reviews on TripAdvisor. When we arrived there were 6 people in line, then there were 4, well after 8 minutes there were still 4 in line, no new customers had been served. the person taking the orders was busy making coffee etc for prior orders. Once we realized that she had yet to take the order for the first people in line we left and went to Cafe encore, several doors up the street, had a great breakfast in a timely manner.
Breakfast Disco
I did have to block out the rock guitar accompaniment to my eggs. Don't get me wrong, I like a bit of music. I am a DJ so it's not that I object but not sure I like heavy rock at 7.30am but I guess the Chef does, as he seemed to be singing along. Its not the most restful of places to be honest. Any hope of a quiet breakfast with a book and a coffee went out the window. I was the only person in there!
