Sunday dinner has never been so good!

By ahling33 |

We loved the Sunday set menu. The starters were not just your typical tabouli and hummus - it was an amazing assortment of small dishes. My favorite was the purple potatoes. The main course for a 1/2 chicken wrapped in a bread covering. It was very tender. We finished the meal with baklava and this amazing orange sauce and milk pudding.

Great Lebanese Food

By Jennifer L |

This restaurant was walking distance from my friend's home, and had come highly recommended to us. The food was all very tasty, and the cocktails (we had one with grapefruit) were amazing. It was very crowded - be sure to make a reservation!

inconsistent

By jenwen |

the first time we went the service was ok but the food was excellent! The second time both failed. the food was just ok, but the service was horrible. We even ordered some of the same dishes. I like the atmosphere but it can get loud. I really wanted to like this place and I'm just really wary to give it another chance...so still searching for better Lebanese place.....

Everyone has their opinion...

By Michael |

Mine is to give them very high marks. In addition to fine food, they offer a whiskey special. More or less regular price shot of fine whiskey. I find it allows me to try a good glass that I would not ordinarily. The wait staff were very knowledgable, friendly and encouraging at my visit and their opinions were helpful as I tend to go to new places with an open mind. I like it when the wait staff know the menu and are flexible with the customers desires without pushing the daily special or another choice. My recommendation for the first time visitor is to go Sunday's and simply agree to Chef's Choice. They will ask if you want vegan or otherwise and settle back for a very very pleasant dinner. Portion size has been rated as small by others, but I left full without being overstuffed. For the two of us, we took some food away with us. I have no trouble looking forward to returning for another meal.

Why is this place rated so highly???

By edsatty |

Tried to go here twice previously and could not get in. Finally got a reservation- day before July 4th. All I can say is the worst food I’ve had in ages. First of all, menu on line showed beef and chicken and lamb dishes. When we got there, the only entree was lamb. Asked why - waitress said well our supplies are low going into a holiday — but we do have one chicken skewer left we can give you (should have said no). Got hommous Balika to start - with fried chick peas on top. Good. Also baba ghanoush - which was ice cold. As was the pita. Usually pita is/should be room temp or even warmed. Nope. Chicken skewer - tasteless. Two pieces were not even cooked, but our waitress was nowhere to be found for ages. Lamb was dry. I got the rice dish that was described as rice, lentils, caramelized onions and spicy tomato sauce ($10). A bowl of not cooked rice with a few lentils sprinkled on the top. “Carmelized onions” - no - fried onion strings. Some tomato glob in a small metal side tin - not tomato sauce. And let’s talk ambiance- LOUD. Terrible acoustics, then add canned music they periodically played. Add in fruit flies everywhere/bites. Could not wait to leave. Best part of this is it’s location right across from Larsen’s bakery - which is the only thing that saved this experience afterwards. If they were having let’s just coast into the July 4th weekend problems, they should have just closed. One and done.

Great Lebanese Food- Do the Sunday Chef's Dinner

By Ana |

The best Lebanese food we've found in Seattle. We especially love the hummus with the ground lamb. The Chef's Sunday dinner is awesome. We went with with 6 friends. They bring out dish after dish. Everything was delicious. I live a few blocks from Cafe Munir and I have to agree with many comments about the service. My bad experience has been regarding walk-ins and dealing with the young hostess that didn't seem to know what was going on. We booked a reservation for 6 a month in advance for the Sunday dinner. Our reservation was at 6 and we had to wait until 7pm to sit down because the table had a party of 6. Why didn't they tell us 7pm? We've had reservations a couple times for 2 - we'll go in and there will be many 2 top tables and hostess each time has sat us at the worst table. They don't do take out which is a bummer! Not sure why they don't. I'm giving the review 5 stars because of the food. BUT- if the service is bad the next time we go in, I will change my review.

4.5 stars..AMAZING mezzes

By jtssea |

I love / adore/crave the mezzes (spreads, dips etc) they are 5 star. Complex and varied flavors with great texture. Memorable! The skewers however are 3.9star. Quality meat but not as good as the mezzes and apps. Cocktails are ok and very small. They are less than half the size of a normal cocktail (many ballard and freemont neighborhoods seem to serve $10 tiny cocktails. Charge me $15 and give me a full size) Wines limited but adequate. Polite service. Modest decor but very clean! Worthy of the drive and money. Go heavy on the mezzes and try SEVERAL. A group.of 6 ppl.could order all.of the mezzes on the menu and a few hot apps and be full.and happy. Yum

A True Disappointment

By Nancy T |

My family was looking forward to a fine Lebanese dinner and we were truly disappointed in the menu. I am Lebanese and found the menu more for tourists than one who is familiar with the cuisine. Lebanese restaurants and people in general are known for generosity and we found the portions very small. The Lahem Mishwiyeh listed on the menu were not lamb at all, they were beef only, (Lahem is lamb), this was served with almost a tablespoon of yogurt sauce instead of a bowlful, no classic dishes which we had expected. The small "samplings" that we ordered were tasty. The restaurant was very noisy. The service was also lacking as I had to request some of the dishes that we ordered to be served. It was a very expensive meal and we left hungry. We will not return there.

Excellent food!

By SeattleCrazyhair |

We went there on a Sunday night & it was crowded (next time I'll call ahead for a reservation - it is a popular place). We had the chef's night dinner....I'm not sure what the other reviewers are talking about we had 4 or 5 appetizer plates, bread, a large stuffed eggplant & dessert (which was small, but delicious, if you want Supersized food - go to Applebees). It was plenty of food for the two of us, plus leftovers for lunch the next day. The waitstaff was friendly and was helpful in describing the dishes. We will definetly be back again.

Hidden jewel

By Renee B |

I don't often write about restaurants in Seattle but after dinner this week at Cafe Munir I feel I need to tell my friends. This is a true neighborhood secret in Loyal Heights, Ballard. Cafe Munir is graced with the chef owner, Rajah Gargour's, wonderful ability to serve Lebanese food from a small kitchen as though you were sitting in the country itself. We shared 6 small plates to start and each one was better than the next. Try the baba ghanoush, tabbouleh salad, the chicken b'stilla, hummus to start and then share the Kababs, there are two to each serving. Of course no meal would be complete without baklava and they do a great job.

great spot and food

By American_Overseas |

I moved to Lebanon a couple of months ago, and wanted to take my parents for Lebanese food when back in Seattle recently. Based on reviews, we decided to try this spot, and were very glad we had. There was a good selection of the type of mezze I see in every restaurant in Beirut (hummus, labneh, arayess), as well as some more unique selections (we tried a puree of peppers with pistachios and mint, it was great). Portion sizes are much smaller than what you would find in Lebanon, but the bill still was reasonable (just over $100 for 3 adults and 2 kids, including a bottle of wine). The grilled beef was really excellent as well, cooked medium rare, not medium well the way it is in the restaurants I´ve tried in Beirut. Attentive service, kid friendly without being overrun with kids, and excellent food- I'd highly recommend it.

Good food!

By lani1 |

I think the food is very good but the portions are too small for the price. Loved the lamb shank but for 16.00 the shank was on the small side and came with only about a half cup of sliced veggies. 3 women, 3 glasses of wine, came to 90.00 including the tip. Spendy!

Amazing Lebanese food + whiskey

By David B |

We've been to Cafe Munir twice in the past year and loved it each time. Start with an inventive whiskey cocktail or whatever their pour-of-the-week is and you'll be all set for their full selection of authentic mezzes, savory pastries and kabobs. You can't go wrong with sizzling lamb hummus, labneh with beets or grilled eggplant. Throw in a couple of skewers of chicken, beef or lamb patties and your experience will be complete and memorable. Highly recommended but be sure to make a reservation.

Noisy, Tasty Food, But Not Outstanding

By caplow |

An attractive neighborhood restaurant with reasonably interesting food. But it's extremely noisy, even with the music off. Wine prices are too high; but the price of spirits and beer is reasonable; who would expect a Lebanese restaurant to serve about 100 different single malts. Good service and a pleasant atmosphere. Seattle restaurant prices are high so it's probably not overpriced.

Average Because Service Needs Improved - Food is Great

By Ana |

I wrote a review about 10 months ago raving about the Sunday Supper but mentioned the service needed some improvement. We've eaten here 3 times for Sunday Supper with friends for a total of 8 at the table. Each time there were 14-16 plates that would be dumped on the table all at once. Then another 6 plates dumped on the table. No clean plates ever given. Perhaps this is the Lebanese culture but not the way I like to dine. I'd like to get a few plates, enjoy, then get a few more plates. When I say "Service is Poor", it's the owners that have set up the poor customer service, not the wait staff. I just want to make sure I'm clear on that. The wait staff does what they're told. That would be such a great idea but this place is churn and burn. Get people in, dump a bunch of food all at once on the table and get the hell out. We decided we wanted a more relaxed dinner so just went to a Sunday Supper with one other couple so only 4 of us. We asked for the plates to be more staggered, not all 12-14 at once. The waitress agreed just to not do what I asked. She dumped all the plates on the table and that got upset when I said we wanted them staggered. She said that's not how they do it. Well.... you're a restaurant so aren't you catering to your customers? Then they basically kicked us out at 8pm. Not the kind of restaurant I care to frequent. Service needs IMPROVEMENT! You're in the customer service business so perhaps you should listen better and provide better service. We live around the corner and would bring friends in once a month but the experiences have left a bad taste so we go elsewhere. Not to mention, if you go in the summer, dress light, the place is HOT. Unfortunately the overall service here needs improvement which is unfortunate because the food is good. If you want to try it, go any other day than Sunday. And NO TAKE OUT. What the hell? Can't even place an order of the bread to go. The owners need Gordon Ramsey to come in and make them 200% better. But obviously the owners are OK with mediocre service. So they clearly don't care about doing better.

Fine Dining in An Out-of-the-way Venue

By JeanAtHome |

Café Munir has an outstanding collection of small plates and dinner items on the menu. It is one of our favorite restaurants anywhere. Delectable food, great atmosphere (relatively quiet even when full of people) and considerate, polite staff who do everything they can to help you meet any food needs including gluten-free and vegetarian if needed. Be sure to make a reservation ahead of time. They are almost always full.

Amazing food!

By climber_dave |

We've visited Munir a number of times and are always happy with the service and the food! Wonderful neighborhood restaurant!

Lucky lunch discovery

By BiologistInTheWild |

Went looking for a sandwich shop one Sunday and wound up here by accident. What a lucky accident! I wasn't sure what to think when they mentioned that Sunday lunch was always a fixed price "Chef's Choice" meal... I would let this chef choose ALL of my meals, as long as he was the one cooking! Absolutely superb blend of small plates with herb & spice combinations unlike any I've ever tried. I'll be taking all of my Seattle guests to this gem.

Very Good Lebanese food

By Alec D |

This restaurant is located north of Ballard. Easy to find on 80th. Make sure that you make a reservation if you're going for dinner on the weekend. The small plates are delicious. We had roasted cauliflower which was really good. I also enjoyed the beets as well as the Hommous bil Tahini. We also enjoyed a Lebanese full bodied red wine. Our server was very attentive. I would highly recommend a visit (or two)

Excellent food with an original touch

By Muriel W |

Enjoyed a wonderful array of Lebanese small plates; hummus was topped with toasted chick peas, eggplant used in several ways, all delicious, the pita bread was thin and so fresh. All food carefully prepared by Chef Rajah Gargour with a delicate balance of spices and herbs resulting in dishes of exquisite taste and color. The baklava, also made in house, was made with pistachios and was a perfect ending to a great meal. Try it!

Too crowded on weekends

By Hina91 |

We had to wait for at least thirty minutes before we were seated. Humus was delicious but served cold. Chicken kabobs were good and I particularly liked the bread served along with humus and kabobs. The place was extremely noisy and not advisable for a date night. The service was just at par, nothing special. I'm not sure if I would go there again as food wasn't outstanding.

A party for the taste buds

By Rohita S |

We went to Café Munir on a Friday (I had not made reservations earlier and the lady said they were all booked up, but had 2 tables for walk-ins), so we decided to take a chance. We lucked out and what a treat it was! Located in a residential spot deep inside Ballard, Café Munir is a tiny homey place serving up the most delicious Lebanese I've had in Seattle. We ordered the Fig-skey (A whiskey infused with Fig extract), which was yummy. This was an all vegetarian meal and there were so many options to choose from, we had a hard time deciding. I found dishes here that I don't normally see in other Lebanese places - dishes made from beets, squashes etc. in addition to the other typical Lebanese dishes, we ordered 4 or 5 small plates and some pita to go with it and that was just right for our appetite and curiosity. Each dish turned out to be distinct and flavorful. There are large plates as well and I am sure I will be back to sample them.

No Lamb, No Beef!!! Why not close the place!!!

By Nadeem Z |

Took a Lyfft to get to this restaurant. Called before going in to find about the wait. Told to come right in. Was never told until we arrived that they had not received their shipment of lamb and beef and they had run out of lamb and beef. Had small portions including hummus, asparagus and green beans. Good but not great. Ordered the pastry lamb cylinders. Did not like them. The grilled chicken was very good. Would not go back again. They should have been more forthcoming about what did not carry.

Take the family special on a Sunday

By nadine |

I always look for Lebanese or Mediterranean restaurants in every city I visit. In Seattle, this is where you need to go. I went on a Saturday, the food was great but some of the staples of the Lebanese cuisine that I saw on the online menu were only available as part of the Sunday family special. I hope this helps.

Delicious Lebanese tapas & cocktails

By Winkie C |

Love this hidden gem in the neighborhood. The bubbling lamb hummus is amazing. The cocktail list is delicious and many vegetarian options that even as a meat eater I enjoy very much.

Sunday Nights's Chef's Choice

By JacquelineB228 |

On Sunday evening, you relinquish control and enjoy what the chef has decided to you should eat. The cuisine is Lebanese and generally middle eastern. First an appetizer of lots of small delicious dishes Cleverly, the plates you are given are small as well, so you take a little bit of this and a little bit of that as the dishes are passed around. Then comes the main course, in our case, a wonderful lamb stew, but again in small quantities. Then desserts of baklava and a lovely yoghurt custard. There is a bar, but the only hard liquor is whiskey, lots of different kinds of whiskey. The barman makes splendid cocktails or you can just explore one of the many whiskeys, some of them from local distilleries. If you prefer not to imbibe, mint tea is a perfect foil to the food. The restaurant is small, unassuming, just a storefront in an unremarkable friendly neighborhood. The service is friendly too. Really good, when you consider there is only one server who is very, very busy. No request is ignored. A family favorite as well as a knowledgeable tourist destination.

Tasty food, warm family environment, welcoming service, great place!

By lukecsmom |

Cafe Munir is one of my favorite restaurants in North Seattle. It has a warm family environment, delicious Lebanese food and gracious service. The prices are moderate. Great place for vegetarian (and other) food!

New in the North End

By seatt |

We had a late lunch on Sunday. Sunday meals are fixed price, $15 which includes appetizers (assorted Middle East) entrees (also assorted) and dessert. Excellent value. The waitress intelligently explained each dish: "this is the national dish of Egypt" "this is a variation on hummus served in Tunisia" How informative. You can see the chef-owner is also a student of the cuisine. Bravo!! Well chosen wine list reasonably priced. My only complaint: I wish it were closer to my house.

Love this place!

By lovestotravel376 |

Delicious authentic Lebanese food! The mezze menu includes all dishes everyone knows like hummus and many other exceptionally tasty ones we don't. You could easily make a meal with a variety of these, but the chicken kabob is also some of the best ever. It's a perfect meal to share with friends.

A HIDDEN GEM IN BALLARD

By STEVE C |

i had heard about this Lebanese place for quite some time and finally ventured over to this secluded neighborhood spot. I got there right at 5:00 and was promptly seated and served. They have a surprisingly good Scotch selection so I began with the whiskey and then had the hummus with pine nuts ad pita bread that was perfect in flavor and texture. Had I been hungrier, I would have ordered a lot more but I did get some baklava to go. This is an old-time neighborhood ethnic spot that is easily missed.

Cafe Munir-Extraordinary!

By tsmithgall |

Fabulous meal with the family (6 adults). Crafted cocktails, small plates with a Lebanese flair. Nikki was a very attentive server and made us feel very welcome. DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE!

Out of the way, storefront- Try It!

By DP49 |

It’s a storefront restaurant in South Ballard that would not indicate a dining experience. The food was GREAT!! Very authentic Lebanese fare. We had their Sunday family-style special; four appetizers served family style and an entrée per person and dessert. The service was great and the attitude was even better. If there was something that you particularly liked, they will substitute something without any question. And to top it all off the meals were $15 per person- what a deal. We will be going back on a non-Sunday to try their full menu.

delicious!

By am918 |

the food was fantastic, and the menu had a pretty good variety of options. The space is small, and reservations are often necessary.

Great Vegetarian

By Gadoy1981 |

My wife loved this place, she is vegetarian and there are some many good Vegetarian options available. Loved the Lentils with garlic. I had the Labneh which is some of the best Labneh I have ever had and I have had alot of Labneh!! Very impressed.

We go on Sundays!

By emidolan |

The food is so good! Totally vegetarian friendly. We don't order anything, just tell them we are veg. They bring out so many little plates of glorious food. The stewed chickpea "hummus" is so good. The beets with tahini are amazing. We are so full by the time the second course comes out, it doesn't even matter what they are serving. If I'm to be honest, the vegetarian rice option for the second course is dry and pretty boring. But the small plate first course is worth the trip.

Lebanise food the way i like

By GuiaPuertoEscondido |

Really tasty and delicious plates simply made with quality ingredients. It is served Lebenese style which is multiple smaller plates shared amongst the table. Always delivered to your table with a smile. must try their wine selection per glass or bottle and lamb kebabs

A Tasty Meal in a Neighborhood Spot

By JourneyJen |

On a recent visit to Seattle, I gathered with relatives for a dinner at Café Munir. Though some of my family lives in the area, it was a first visit for my entire group. The restaurant itself occupies a small, though not cramped, space in a neighborhood storefront. The menu offers a wide variety of mezzes along with a small selection of entrees and desserts. The wine and cocktail list was especially expansive. My group ordered a number of mezzes, all of which were delicious. But, we all agreed that the Hummus Balila (with crispy hummus beans) and Salatat Julia (with its tasty tahini sauce) were among our favorites. The service was attentive without being overbearing. At no point did we feel rushed, even though we were there toward the end of the night. All in all, it was a lovely experience that we thoroughly enjoyed.

Very good!

By Pjay99 |

Lebanese for the American can be tough, we want the ethnic food but not get too far off our expectations. I have no clue how authentic this place is but I really liked the food, we had a bunch of plates and every one was delicious. Service was good and it was priced appropriately. Wish it was in my city, I would go regularly.

Great Food - Mixed Service

By Joel B |

Love the food here. It remains largely unique build around many meze/tapas style starters. So many dishes are not offered elsewhere. And they are usually quite good. We come regularly. The waitstaff are really good. It is the owner who makes this place challenging. They so often don’t pick up the phone, won’t return messages, and won’t offer an online booking option. This visit was case in point - we called ahead but never heard back. We showed up and there were multiple open tables so we got in this time. But most times we don’t when this happens. Please consider modifying your system. We would come more often yet if we could plan dependably.

Delicate, tasty Lebanese

By Miriahm D |

This food is absolutely delicious. The little mezzes give the most variety, and the warm hummus with ground lamb was fantastic. It's a smallish restaurant, and you can watch the cooks prepare the food. Do not miss the savory pastries, tiny one bite, carefully handcrafted. Five of us ate with drinks and tip for $75. We were too full to sample, what I am sure we're delicious desserts. If I still lived in Seattle, this would be a regular dining stop for me.

Worst experience ever

By Jhefeats |

We arrived at Cafe Munir looking forward to what we expected to be a great meal. We didn't have reservations, so we were told that it would be at least an hour. We put in our name and said we'd be back in an hour. Before leaving, I asked pointedly whether we would be guaranteed to get a table when we came back and was assured that we would. When we came back in an hour, we were told, "I'm sorry, but we won't be able to seat you tonight." No explanation, no effort to make this right in any way whatsoever. Extremely poor management. I will never be going back to this place.

Stunning food

By Lib572 |

Unprepossessing exterior and sparse inside We are totally impressed with the food - delicious mezzo plates all complementing each other and delicious . Well done team

Bring your friends on Sunday

By seahawksfoodie |

This small Lebanese restaurant is a Loyal Heights neighborhood gem. Chef/Owner Rajah Gargour grew up in Lebanon and Jordan. He serves traditional meze: Middle Eastern small plates presented family style in the middle of the table. Eating here is more like eating at the home of a great cook than a “fine dining” establishment. The atmosphere is casual, the food is sophisticated in flavors, the prices are more than reasonable, especially on Sunday when the “Chef’s Choice” tasting menu is served. A feast for $25.00 /person, It packs the house so reservations are imperative. A table of 4 will get a larger variety of dishes than a table of 2 and the food prepared often changes during the course of the evening. Meat and vegetarian dishes are both available as are wines by the bottle or glass. The owner is somewhat of a whiskey aficionado and offers a selection of special and hard to get single-malt whiskies, priced accordingly. Look for the whiskey of the week at a reduced price.

Outstanding dinner

By FuzzyBeaver |

We had the luxury of ordering a wide range of food - 6 appetizers and 3 types of skewers. The quality and authenticity of the food was outstanding. Every dish was well presented and delicious. The wine list is also fun with all the wines coming from Lebanon. The white we ordered was delightful and matched the food. They also have a great selection of non-alchoholic drinks. The service was extremly good and very friendly. The children were happily accommoted. An overall outstanding dinner!

Excellent Lebanese Food

By SkykomishBob |

As good as any Lebanese food I've ever enjoyed. I started to write "outside the Middle East," but as I thought about it, I couldn't recall any place ever where each item was as good or better than Munir. I traveled throughout the Middle East for much of three decades; this is a cuisine I know and enjoy. The kofta, the humus, the babaganouj, even the khubz (pita bread) tasted authentic and top notch. Good khubz has great texture for about 15 minutes, after which it turns into a frisbee. The bread here tasted just right and firmed up as it cooled, just as it does all over the Mid East. There were four of us, we had all we could eat and then some and paid $100+ including tip and a bottle of pleasant Lebanese wine. We ate Lebanese "mezza" style where the plates are put in the middle of the table, and everyone shares. It was louder than I remembered from our only previous visit, so I agree with the person who didn't recommend it for a first date, and the servers, while friendly and generally competent, weren't always on top of every detail, but if you want to enjoy top quality Middle Eastern fare, Munir is the place. Reservations are probably a good idea, since the place isn't large, but it appears a lof of people have discovered it.

excellent food, reasonable prices

By steph_tourstheworld |

I went here on the advice of a colleague and was not disappointed. The employees were exceptionally friendly and helpful and the food was amazing. We started off with the bubbling lamb hummus - it amazing - don't miss it.

Excellent Vegetarian Dishes

By JasonElroy |

Lots of good dishes here for Vegetarians here. Love the lentils with the caramelized onions, house labneh and sweet pears with a delicious tasting savory Tahini. Excellent service from the staff here.

Wonderful Lebanese Food!

By SusieTall |

After reading the reviews, my husband and I had dinner at Cafe Munir. We went early on a Saturday evening, 5:30 pm, so we were able to get a table. Otherwise, we would recommend reservations. It is a small restaurant with an array of appetizers and main dishes. We had four appetizers and one main dish, and we struggled to finish the delicious food. We had the Classic Hommus, Baba Ghanoush (smoky), Muham, mara and the Brown Fava Beans with Garlic and Lemon as appetizers, and then the Skewers of Chicken Breast. All were delicious but the Muham, mara (roasted red peppers) and Chicken Breast were the best. The price was very reasonable for all the food. We had Baklawa which wasn't too sweet and better than what we had in Greece!

Sunday dinner excellent choice

By MercedHappytraveler |

I went with friends to Cafe Munir on a Sunday to try their tasting special. This is a wonderful way to learn more about Lebanese cuisine. The first course consisted of several excellent vegetarian appetizers, from purple potatoes to a lemony zuccini. Second course was a marinated chicked kabob which was tender and flavorful. Dessert was a rose water custard and baklava. Everything was distinctive in flavor. The wait staff was personable and attentive. We will be back to try the regular menu. Highly recommend

Chef's Night Dinner

By Bettina S |

Don't even try. Mini portions. I told them that I am a vegetarian. Not only I, but also my husband was served a tiny stuffed zucchini. To top it all, we had to share a small dessert. $17.50 per person? The worst value for money in a restaurant I have ever experienced.

Great Lebanese and Whiskey in Ballard

By klsalas |

Well off the tourist track at 80th and 24th Ave NW in Ballard, Cafe Munir has been doing brisk business with neighborhood locals, but for lovers of authentic Lebanese it is worth the extra effort to seek out. The nondescript exterior belies the light, sparsely decorated, elegant interior and the quality of the food, friendliness of the staff, pacing of the service, small plate style of eating and sophisticated whiskey selection have us hooked. We have been about 5 times in the last few months with consistently quality experiences and we have already developed a number of favorites like hommus bi lahm ou snobar, labneh bi za'atar, muham’mara, aarayess bi jibneh, kafta mishwiy’eh and bisteeya. For the full Lebanese experience have a glass of Lebanese wine (Chateau Musar) or a glass of arak (anise based liquor like ouzo or Pernod but whiskey (and particularly Scotch whiskey) is a passion of chef Owner Rajah Gargour and they have a notable selection including some hard to find bottlings. I lived in the DC area for many years and have been to some good to excellent Lebanese and pan-Med restaurants like Lebanese Taberna, Levante's and Zaytinya and I would put Cafe Munir up there with any of them any day.

Quite Suprised

By Mark Z |

I recently moved to Ballard and decided to try this place based on other reviews. I'm so glad I did as this was the best middle eastern food I've had in Seattle. This is a small place right north of Ballard in the Loyal Heights neighborhood. Went here with my fiance and her parents on a Friday evening. All dishes that we ordered was fantastic. Everything from the vegetarian appetizers to the meat kebabs were incredible. I really particular with beef and lamb and usually only order it at higher end places. I'm glad I tried it here because it was amazing. The place is small and quiet - really liked the ambiance. The service was fine and as expected. The best part was the price. For how well the food tasted, I would usually expect to pay a lot more than I did. Also, I just read on their blog that they are starting a whiskey club. I'm excited for that!

Rotten Customer Service

By seattlemom22 |

I live a couple of blocks from Cafe Munir and have visited the restaurant many times. Heck, I've even referred people to the restaurant. I called tonight to ask if they could seat 6 for a late dinner. I even mentioned that I live in the area and wanted to walk over for dinner. Literally, the woman who answered the phone said "How many? Certainly not!" and then hung up the phone. She hung up on me! My husband was sitting next to me and heard the exchange and also could not believe how rude this woman was. I guess Cafe Munir does not need the business, nor do they value local business. I called back to talk with the manager but got vm so I left a message. We'll see if anyone calls me back. Their food may be good, but I won't be back if this is how they treat potential customers. It's just wrong. Reporting a week later, and no one from the restaurant has reached out after my voicemail and post. If you want to support establishments that value customers and local business, try Picolino's, Copine or Brunswick & Hunt.

Great Lebanese Restaurant

By ThomWalls |

This was the second visit to this restaurant for my group of friends and if anything we enjoyed it more than the first time. Many of the dishes are served on small plates, like a tapas bar, which makes them great for sampling and sharing.

Amazing Hidden Gem in Seattle

By Dermop |

Cafe Munir can easily be in the Seattle Top 50 hands down. The food is always consistently amazing and every person that goes there with us, falls in love with it. Have never had a bad dish there. The service is always on point as well. I would definitely suggest making a reservation, as it can get very crowded and hard to get into, especially on Friday and Saturday evenings. The Sunday chef's dinner is out of this world amazing. The prices here are incredible as well. A true gem of a restaurant!

Accidental Excellence

By Alison B |

We were randomly looking for a reasonably priced place to eat and stumbled on this neighborhood gem. It's small but mighty, with wonderful, fresh food with unique mediterranean treatments. You've never had tahini this good, believe me. So many great choices for vegetarians and also wonderful food for carnivores. We were lucky to get in without reservations and without a wait, but reservations recommended. I had 2 small plates and we split a salad and that was plenty.

Good options for Vegos.

Here you can find some fresh food with Arabic Lebanese influences. Good options for vegos. Standout was the chicken in Pita bread.

A pleasant surprise

This was our first time at Cafe Munir, and we were very impressed. The food was delicious, the wine excellent, and the service friendly. The plates are rather small, but the prices are very reasonable. Like many Seattle restaurants, it can be a little noisy, but not as bad as many others. We enjoyed it very much.

A Good Lebanese Restaurant

By KRAMA200 |

The restaurant in Ballad Area of Seattle though small is a good restaurant for Lebanese Food. The ambience is good and we could eat in Lebanese style .We were six of us and ordered about Ten Dishes. All dishes were uniformly good and tasty. The portions are small by American standards. The Pita bread was fresh and delicious. We did not try desserts though few Lebanese delicacies were available as Chocolate Flavor favorite of the kids was not available. As the place is not big it would be a good idea to have advance reservations if you are going in Weekends Highly recommended if you want to try different Cuisines.

Off the beaten path!

Enjoyed a Lebanese small plate dinner with friends. The Baba Ganoush very good, the Karnabeet Mishwi interesting with the grilled cauliflower. The leg of lamb and the grilled lemon chicken (Shish Taouk) were served together on skewers and perfectly seasoned. We enjoyed a small plate of Rikikat bil Lahm ( FILO cigars with lamb & spices) - yum- could’ve had more! The little plate of roasted poblano peppers was a hot taste treat. (Mukhadara Alaina). Combined with a bottle of “interesting” wine (Ksara reserve) our bill came to $128.00 before tax & gratuity for four. Our server, Lesley, was very good and guided us in our ordering. Would highly recommend “making a reservation!”

Wonderful Lebanese food.

This is a gem of a restaurant. They serve authentic Lebanese food, and wine! The dishes are served in a family style, with plenty of vegetables and bread to eat with the meal. If you don't know Lebanese food, there are many vegetable-based dishes that are eaten traditionally with pita-style bread. We also ordered lamb, chicken and asparagus that had been grilled on skewers. Also, there is a savory pastry course that you don't want to miss! We didn't try dessert (baklava was offered) as we were heading to a different restaurant to meet a friend for dessert, but considering how delicious and authentic the food was, I want to return to try their baklava.

Middle Eastern adventure in Seattle

By John F |

We met with dear friends last night for a casual dinner. The Sunday night chef's choice tasting menu was so much fun! Our server was prompt, professional and efficient, but the food was the star. Two very different but brilliant treatments of beets (normally, I'm not a fan, but these were both outstanding!) were among perhaps a dozen small plates that satisfied the four of us with a lovely variety of assorted vegetable dishes (mezze): roasted tomatoes, cauliflower with pomegranate seeds, mushrooms in tahini, roasted (grilled?) eggplant, tabouli in romaine leaves...a delightful array of big flavors on small plates served with a perfect thin Lebanese pita for getting all of chef's sauces without filling up on bread! Following these were perfectly seasoned lamb skewers for three of us and a rice and lentil with thin-strands of perfectly caramelized onion, and a desert that was the perfect punctuation on a great dining experience. And all so reasonably priced that we will definitely see you there!

Great Middle Eastern Food

Vegan relatives we were visiting in Seattle took is to Café Munir for finner. We ordered a number of small plates and two cabob dishes, all of which were very tasty. One cannot go wrong ordering any of their offerings. The flat bread served with the small dishes was very good. The only disappointment was the bowl of rice as it was tasteless. The beef cabob was very tender and good tasting, not overly spiced as is often the case. The decor' is nothing to speak of but the waitress was very friendly and helpful and the food terrific. We would return next time we are in Seattle.

I have driven by this quaint restaurant a few times and never stopped. Last night my girlfriend and I decided to give it a try, oh how i wish that i had stopped before. Ambience is lovely and simple Wine - not a huge selection though it was nice , they are a whiskey bar and that is really what the drinks are about staff - nice and helpful and polite Food -- lovely , tasty , fresh flavors , middle eastern love and the mint , lamb, cardamom , and the great spices made the dishes very tasty. Desserts - wonderful , get the sample cookie plate Overall it was a great experience and a wonderful surprise finding this great neighborhood find. Its a personal love that the owner has and he shows his customers too ! Small plate choices to share or entrees are available It's not a big place so make maybe reservations if there are more than two of you ....

Fun times with Chef's Choice

By Steve F |

Visited here on a Sunday night for Chef's Choice. For a set price, we were first treated to a myriad of small plate vegetarian dishes. It was truly a collage of flavors, colors and textures. Lamb skewers were the meat dish and yummy dessert finished us off. This was a fun experience, especially with a group. Recommended.
