We booked a table in the Zoetrope for the 12th March and had a fabulous evening. Attentive staff and the food was cooked to perfection. Thank you for such a wonderful evening.

If you are a fan of the Godfather or other Francis Ford Coppola movies you will be in for a treat as this is his restaurant and the walls are covered in memorabilia and candid photos. Even if you are not, the atmosphere is delightful, and the food is terrific. Fresh-made pasta and perfect sauces. The service is top notch and the prices are fairly and really quite reasonable.

A must for film buffs or if you like Italian food. Authentic feeling. Any more Italian and I would have to fly to Italy, lol. Food was delicious and the service was great too! Highly recommend it on your next visit to San Fran!

This restaurant is very close to the Hilton Financial District, where we've stayed several times . We ate dinner there and it was the best meal I've had in the area. I had a Chicken Cacciatore special, and it was very flavorful. The rest of the family had pasta and reported themselves very satisfied. The hostess and waiter were both attentive and friendly. We had just visited Coppola Winery, and this restaurant is apparently affiliated, and it offers lots of Coppola wines. I had the very nice Director's Cut Zinfandel, which was my favorite of the non-reserve wines I had tasted at the winery. I am sure I will return to Cafe Zoetrope the next time I stay in this area.

We stopped in here by accident, we were looking for another restaurant and ended up here. We were greeted right away and was told it would be about 10-15 minutes. We were told to have a seat in the small bar area and we were waited on right away for a drink. We were told we could order our food there so we ended up with Pizza and wine and everything was good. Service was great as well as the food.

We were given a great corner table, server was helpful with wine choice and food. Very reasonable pricing and would recommend . Wait staff shared stories of the wine and movie connection of the owner.

We went here for a meal on 4th September. It was okay and I gave the waiter my card and he came back with it and the check for me to sign. The total I signed for was $42.88, but when it came off my travel card they had put through $50.88! Disgraceful and unlawful behaviour. I have never experienced this before, especially from a high profile establishment such as this one. I will dispute this with my card provider.

A little mix up on reservations, they were not ready for us. We had to wait awhile but enjoy our wine at the bar while we waited. When our table become available we were given a nice salad to make up for the wait. I asked about the wine selection. We were able to taste the wine for no charge. Loved the setting of the restaurant along with the great service. I hope to be able to be in the area again and stop by for one of the wonderful dishes!

Are you looking for a lovely place to have a quiet and romantic dinner, with excellent food, good wine, without compromising your savings? This is the place! The building has got a strong personality and you feel you're experiencing something great in a place that looks like ordinary. But it's not! It's all but ordinary, both the place and the menu. They pretend to be simple, and then they surprise you because it's attention to detail that makes the difference and turns ordinary-look-alike places into something great.

We came on a Sunday lunchtime , having visited City Lights bookstore nearby. Exterior and interior are beautiful and filled with Coppola memorabilia. Excellent friendly service . A short but excellent Italian menu. We had previously checked the website; a dish which my wife was looking forward to was not on the menu but was prepared for her without any hesitation. Highly recommended.

Notwithstanding the Francis Ford Coppola connection (ownership - which is why we sought it out, being film nerds), this is a great little place to eat & enjoy a drink in its own right. A striking green corner building houses a cafe which would look very at home in a street in Paris (its walls full of Coppola photos, paintings, mirrors and two huge M. Hulot posters), the food is home-style Italian with occasional Mexican twists (try the short ribs if you don't fancy pasta or pizza; other tempting dishes are on the menu besides) and the wine is Californian, all from Coppola's increasing stable of wineries - a terrific fusion! Great ideas - wine tastings to order, the Picada tray of appetisers (a hit with our teen), friendly intuitive waiters and a short story dispenser (I hope they catch on in the UK) and delicious homely food & drink to linger over. It's clearly well-frequented & loved by locals and not just by star-struck film fans like us! We went twice on two consecutive days and felt like we had gotten a big family Coppola hug! Think we need to visit his vineyards next - a great ethos which is catching - family, love, food & art. Thank you

2 stars - 1 for the atmosphere and 1 for the wine. Food was pretty basic, over priced due to the location and not really authentic. It’s a real pity because it looks authentic but it’s really a tourist trap. Hostess was nice, servers were typical cheeky Italian style waiters with no real respect for customers, just got a dismissive sort of attitude like you were a bother to them. Unfortunately it’ll always be busy because of the location and most likely won’t change but don’t expect much!

Must see place in San Francisco. We had a nice lunch and we were positovely surprised of the moderate pricing. Nice place!

Excellent waiter-very attentive to my wife who wanted to have a spaghetti pomodoro with capers and olives but little garlic (a special preparation request) We split a caesar salad which was above average (but not exceptional) and the spaghetti pomodoro which was good but the sauce was slightly sweet. A Viognier white wine was suggested by the waiter for my wife which was excellent. I had a Dry Creek Zinfandel which was adequate but not great. Prices were typical for North Beach restaurants (slightly high because it's a tourist area).. The walls had posters of old films and actors which was interesting.

We used to eat here every time we came to San Francisco. Could be counted on for a not great but solid traditional italian meal. It's really gone downhill now. The wait staff is adequate but no more--we sat waiting for someone to recognize us after we sat down and we waited and two or three waiters stood talking 6 feet from us but didn't come over for a while. This in a restaurant with about 6 tables where everything is in plain view. The wait staff is polite but hardly ever smiles--you get the impression they are not that happy. But the real problem is the food--it's gone downhill since our last visits. My wife's carbonara had scrambled egg at the bottom. My pasta was so rich with cream I could hardly finish half of it. We have lived in Rome and Bologna and know good (and bad) Italian food. This is in the latter category now. The full bill with tax, tip, wine, and coffee came to almost $200, a real rip-off for the quality of the food. Unless you want the experience of eating in a Francis Ford Copella restaurant for its own sake (and we did sit two tables away from him once in the past), and don't care about the quality of the food, avoid this unless they improve again.

We have only been to Cafe Zoetrope twice, but each time it felt special. Both times we arrived just as they opened for lunch and both times the waiters put us at a nice corner table. The menu is short but still was difficult to choose. This last trip we both settled on the mufaletta and caesar salad. And of course, we had white wine, Coppola's own Chardonnay. This restaurant warrants a visit whenever we are in San Francisco.

We continue to be happily impressed with this lovely little gem. The space is really fun, lots of Coppola memorabilia to look at, but it's not a "museum." There is serious food going on here. The wine list is predictable, but since it's Coppola wine, that's a good thing. The prices are really reasonable, both for wines by the glass or the bottle. The space is small, so make a reservation. The outside is great for an afternoon, but the ambiance inside is lovely. Then just relax and enjoy a truly fine meal.

Great service in a relaxed style. Food was very good and wine excellent. Had a custom pizza which came with a light thin crust and was very tasty

We have been here four times - twice for lunch, once for dinner and once for brunch. Recently I had their lasagne and it was excellent with a subtle mix of spices. Good location, charming interior and excellent staff. Reasonable prices.

Wonderful ambience in the restaurant, delicious italian menues, I had the house speial: great short ribs,...

I went 3 days ago (I am from Miami). The location and atmosphere is impeccable. Prices are reasonable taking in consideration CA. I order a tira de asado (decent portion), whoever a little taste, salt and pepper. The courtesy bread was cold (maybe that is the idea)...I was hoping a hot bread and better. The wine was good and so far so good everything was pleasant. I reserve a table in advance for 9 people and the staff respect that reservation, well done.

Stopped in on a Saturday night around 8 pm, and got a cozy table at the back, suitable for canoodling. Tiny little tables, lots of wood and tile. Fulfilled my idea of what a little Italian joint should be like. Excellent wine list filled with Coppola wines. Bonus – they offer wine tastings – 3 glasses for around $18.

I mainly came here because I heard they had a short story vending machine (it's true, they do!). I ordered their puttanesca pasta which was good, but for an Italian establishment, I was a little disappointed. I had a less expensive dish in NASHVILLE of all places more recently that blew my socks off, but this . . . was just okay. Be ready to go here mainly for the environment and not so much the food.

No original Ceasars Salad, the Carbonara have no taste at all and it is not an adventure like a trip to Mars to Make paste Carbonara...! Too much for nothing...!!!!

Cafe Zoetrope is a small, intimate Italian restaurant located in Columbus Tower, a beautiful old (1890s?) flatiron building in North Beach. Movie studios' offices are located upstairs and film buffs will enjoy the wall hung with photographs. We arrived midafternoon, and the restaurant was very quiet, with friendly and gentle service. We shared a tasty tray of meats, cheeses, peppers and tapenades and a porchetta sandwich, well seasoned and satisfying.

We were introduced to Cafe Zoetrope on the Big Bus tour. We couldn't have been more excited to hear that this was Coppola zone! We're such big fans of him and his wines that we just had to find our way back here after the tour. The bartender was quite accommodating and told us some interesting nuggets about the place and how Mr. Coppola himself would hang out there. We were secretly wishing he'd show up for an afternoon vino; but he didn't. The interior had a really rustic and cool feeling to it. Wine flights/ tastings (3 wines) were $18 and $20 for the house selection and reserve, respectively. The pizza was really, really good! Hand-tossed crust and baked in wood oven - just the way we like it! Even if you were strapped for time as we were, I would highly recommended popping in for a glass of Zinfandel and a pizza, at the very least.

I don't usually comment on the pace of a restaurants service, but oh my this place was so slow. And it was not on a busy night either. The food was average, nothing that I remembered or would come back for. We are not the impatient type, but I felt like I only saw my waiter once every 30 minutes. The building outside is awesome, made of copper and definitely worth seeing. Very historic and notable.

Came for drinks no food, been here many times before and great staff. This time barman refused to make us Bloody Mary's because it was after 3pm. Only 2 people in the bar and he told us we couldn't have them because you don't drink Bloody Mary's after 3pm. Saving grace was waiter who put him in his place and served us delicious Bloody Mary's. Barman went away in the huff. Too pretentious for words. Very disappointing and doubt I'd return.

I first stopped at Cafe Zoetrope on business about 5 years ago and had the pleasure of returning recently as well. This is a very good restaurant in many respects, but it also has a number of subjective plusses that make it an excellent restaurant in my book. First, this is an iconic building on Columbus street. It's kind of a Victorian flat-iron building with a wonderful exterior covered with perfectly aged copper. The appearance is striking and you see lots of folks trying to take photos of the outside. The building itself has both restaurant and movie associations. It is one (there are certainly others) of the contenders for the inventor of the Caesar salad. I'll let others debate that one (although they do make a very nice original Caesar salad). The other is that the building Francis Ford Coppola bought in 1972 and has associations with several of his movies, including, of course, the Godfather. The inside is from my perspective an ideal Italian cafe with lots of real elements, a little bit of wear, and more than a little charm. I really have to praise the food - it's basically traditional Italian fare, but incredibly fresh and well prepared. I had the spaghetti arabiata, which tasted about as home-made from scratch as it gets, and my companion had a similar reaction to the spaghetti with meatballs. I had an Italian white wine with dinner, but believe that there were offerings from the Coppola vineyard as well. This was a very nice meal in a memorable and historic setting, yet felt like the model of a local Italian cafe. All in all, well worth a visit.

Can here with a local and enjoyed a nice meal. Although the menu is not huge, it offers good options be it pasta, meat or pizza. The salads are very good as well. The wines feature Coppola vineyards and they are excellent. The food is reasonably priced, well prepared and the place offers a homey atmosphere.

10 years ago, my husband and I happened on this restaurant with its warm ambiance, beautiful interior design, delicious pizza, and splashes of Frances Ford Coppola in the mix. Fast forward to 2015 and we gave it another go and happy to say, we had a great time! The interior is still warm and inviting, the service is friendly and excellent, and our 2 pizzas were super tasty. I had the sausage and mushroom (Funghi e Salsicce) and my husband had the 4 cheese. Pair it with a bottle of Coppola red and you have a delicious night out :)

Located just in front of where I was staying, Cafe Zoetrope is located on the lower floor of a stunning building in North Beach Area. I had such an exquisite pizza. Delicious!

Saw this place while exploring the city on the Big Bus Tour and heard the history about it so thought we'd try it out. Lucky we booked a table as it's very small - looks like the local Italians love it! It's quirky, fun and cosy, the staff were very attentive and helpful and the gnocchi (special of the day) were A.M.A.Z.I.N.G! Best ever. They also had an amazing tiramisu dessert. Would definitely recommend, but book ahead.

This was the last stop on a walking food tour. You cannot help but be impressed by what has gone on in the building itself. The staff was very friendly. We were served bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar to start. The bread was very fresh. We had the Pasta Pomodoro Basiilico which was spaghetti with a fresh tomato sauce. The sauce was very light with large chunks of tomatoes topped with a large basil leaf. It was good but it did not wow us or make us want to return. But I caution that we were only there for one small item off a very large menu.

This Italian restaurant offers high taste food which is presented simply but deliciously. This cafe is located on the border of Chinatown.

Days before my sister & I had lunch at Cafe Zoetrope, Keanu Reeves was filming a scene in front of this restaurant for “Matrix 4.” We walked here from our hotel, enjoyed a plate of beef lasagne and a Regina Pizza. Both were so filling, that we had no room for dessert! Service was excellent, if a bit, slow.

The food and service are excellent here. Charming, cozy restaurant with the walls covered with Francis Ford Coppola (FFC) movie memorabilia and interesting collectibles. The pasta is made to order and it is made the way FFC mother made it for him. I highly recommend this restaurant if you want to get a feel of the old Italian San Francisco charm.

All the pictures of Coppola on the walls. The very delicious and special meals we tasted. The excellent wine - director's cut. If you have ever seen a Coppola movie and visit San Francisco - do not miss this place. Just note that you are not allowed to take pictures of the walls.

The Coppola connection drew me to Cafe Zoetrope. I wasn't disappointment, but also wasn't overwhelmed. They do have a good range of the Coppola wines (and a full bar). They charge a bit of a premium for the wine. The food was fine, but not all that memorable. The memorabilia is fun to look at.

Just along the road from our hotel and in a very prominent building you can't help but notice this place. If you come across it then make sure you stop by. Great happy hour offers of $6 food and drink items. The lamb rolls were especially delicious. Nice staff and we loved the ambience.

Had a pleasant experience here sitting on the patio drinking a bottle of Francis Coppola Reserve. The patio is pretty small but it wasn't very busy so it wasn't an issue.

I have spent many hours at this restaurant - so it was great to revisit it on a recent trip. I always go for the Picado Tray of goodies - good to share as an apertiser with friends/family. A must is Coppola's own Claret - a full bodied delicious red wine. Went here at night after a lecture with 5-6 people and shared Italian style flat pizza with extra aruglla. Later on in the week I enjoyed the Cob salad for lunch, outside in the sunshine.

Whilst on a trip to San Fran we ventured to Cafe Zoetrope based on curiosity and mixed reviews. Met at the door by a pleasant manager who advised a 30 min wait for a table. No problems, we sat at the bar. The bar attendant, a sour faced young lady with the personality of a house brick dumped the wine list in front of us. No hi, no explanation of the process. I ordered a mixed flight of Coppola wines which were again dumped in front of me with the hoesebricks only comment being to name them. No discussion or suggestions. I ordered a second flight of cab savs and got the same treatment. In the end I did something I'd rarely bother doing, I called her on her attitude, mentioning that this was the hospitality industry. Her response was, 'yes it is and I'll do what I please'. Which is what I did when it came to the tip. We didn't wait around to eat. My bill said the servers name was Mollie. Well Mollie I suggest you give up the service game and find a job maybe as a funeral director. And Zoetrope, you are paying this person to lose you business. Won't ever recommend to any of our friends who are visiting SF.

Was really looking forward to this, my 60th Birthday family meal. The Rib starters were very good and my wife enjoyed the wine. Unfortunately all 3 mains were poor. My daughter had spaggetti, tasted the same as tinned. I had 4 cheese pizza but all I could taste was the tomato base that it was drowned in and my wifes pizza was no better.

I've never had a drink made with such barely concealed resentment. The young bartender was surly beyond belief and clearly thinks he's too good to work there. Nope. Not good enough.

Great place for wine tasting, very nice place, welcomy, classy, nice location, a part of beautiful building, the director francis ford coppola office is just upstairs. It has a French style cafe.

The Pizza ala Picada ($26) was served like tapas with all of the toppings on the side -- meats, cheeses, olives. The ingredients were fresh, high qualify and the crust on the pizza was perfect. More than enough for two! The restaurant is small, cozy and charming. Add a glass of Claret and enjoy!

What's not to like about Cafe Zoetrope? A classic flatiron building (saved from destruction by Francis Ford Coppola, who grew up in the area), great food with excellent service. I stopped in mid-afternoon on a hot San Franciscan day; I had only planned to have a light snack and something to drink, but wound up having an early dinner and sampling some great wine. I sat outside on the patio under the awning; there is no better place for exploring the Italian concept of dolce far niente and watching the world go by. I ordered a flight of three whites, all from Coppola's vinyard: a chard, a pino grigio, and a vigonier. Although not a white fan in general, these were light, refreshing, and very welcome on a hot day. The viognier was a clear winner, aromatic, fruity without being too sweet. Despite the heat of the day, I opted for a carbonara. Heartened to see on the menu a note that pasta dishes take 20 minutes, as each is cooked to order, and it was well worth the wait. Best carbonara I've had since I was last in Italy. After sitting and enjoying the view for a while longer (and greeting Emperor Norton, who happened by with a tour group), I did something I rarely do, which is order dessert. Part of this decision was down to "how can I possibly visit Francis Ford Coppola's restaurant and not have the cannoli?" It was light and fresh, well-dusted with grated chocolate. It went well with a glass of grappa, and then a double espresso. The service was warm and friendly without being intrusive; I remarked to one server that although I had been in SF for nearly a week, this time spent enjoying food, wine, and the passing parade was the first time I felt that true holiday relaxation. The bill came to about $90--which considering I had enjoyed five alcoholic drinks as part of the meal, is very modest!

Really enjoyed my evening meal in this well known Italian restaurant. Ordered the chicken cacciatore from the specials menu and savoured every bite! Not what we’d get in Ireland under the same name, I was pleasantly surprised by the slow cooked chicken thighs, swimming in a flavorsome, robust sauce that ached to be slurped straight from the bowl, not to mention the crispy roasted potatoes. The wine was perfect, water icy and topped up regularly and the service was exceptional! The entire meal was finished off by a delicious tiramisu - my favourite Italian dessert. I only managed half of it but every bite was delightful. Aside from the grand history Zoetrope has, the restaurant stands alone as a place to visit - go and enjoy the food; warm welcome; great service; and buzzy atmosphere.

Francis Ford Coppola's restaurant but more like something out of Europe - quaint, excellent decor, delicious food. Selection of wines outstanding and not as expensive as other venues. Went there 3 times!

I've been here a couple times now, and have never had a bad experience. The vibe is fun and intimate, the service is good, and I've always enjoyed the food/wine. The gnocchi on special we had last time was some of the best I've ever had. I feel like it's pretty reasonably priced too. If you're into Italian food/wine or are a film buff, there's a good chance you'll like this place.

Great place to sit outside and watch the street life walk up. Table for Francis is permanently held for him. One of the best locations in SF.

I'm a fan of film and being in San Francisco, I could not pass up the chance to have lunch in the Zoetrope Building in a restaurant owned by Francis Ford Coppola. We made a detour while walking Chinatown around lunch time on a Wednesday. It wasn't very busy. We were seated right away and drinks came pretty quick. I had the spaghetti and meatballs. My daughter had a chicken sandwich. It took a little longer than what I consider average for the food to come out, but then I realized they cook the pasta to order, which it mentions on the menu. They were right, it took about 20 minutes I enjoyed the spaghetti. My daughter said her sandwich was good. It's not the cheapest proposition, but it was fun and interesting. There is movie artifacts and of course, wine, everywhere. I enjoyed it.

Cafe Zoetrope provides the perfect setting to celebrate an anniversary, as I did. The atmosphere is casual and friendly, good for small groups of friends to people dining on their own. The cozy space accomplishes a perfect blend of artfulness and homeyness. The walls are busily lined with artists' scribbles on old menus, movie posters and set photos, creating a never ending feast for the eyes and countless conversation pieces. The meal was perfect, and I wish I'd had more room in my stomach to try another dish or two. The food came out in well presented Italian style of reasonable portions, with a distinct American twist. My date tried the spaghetti and meatball, amazing and I had the gnocchi. Both dishes melted in our mouths. We also tried the mushroom side dish and tortofu dessert, which accompanied the meal very nicely. The real highlight for me was the delicious selection of Coppola wines. Our server selected three different wines for us, which all worked wonderfully with the meal (and I ended up buying two of them to take back home with me). While I love trying new restaurants, I'll definitely go back to Cafe Zoetrope if I get the chance. The atmosphere, the food and the staff were all amazing.

As Coppola's huge fans, we were really looking forward to eat in this restaurant full of history. I ordered pastas with clams and was really disappointed but probably not as much as my daughter who ordered a calzone that was stuffed with so much cheese that she couldn't eat it. On the other hand, our deserts were alright, the tiramisu is classic but well done as well as the pana cotta. Also, we didn't really appreciate the fact that the waiter made us feel like he wanted us to leave, not very professional.

My husband and I came here for lunch after reading good reviews but we didn't think it deserve that much praise. Compared to other nice restaurants in SF, the portions were really small. My husband ordered pasta and it was under cooked and lacked sauce and seasoning. Although a famous restaurant with a famous owner and history, perhaps stop for a coffee but not a meal...

Arrived an hour before closing. Staff was clearly not interested in serving us. They were too busy cleaning up. Have never been in a restaurant where they put the chairs up on the tables next to you while you were still eating. There were at least 3 other tables with people too (this is not a large restaurant). This was highly disappointing after eating at FFC's Rustic restaurant at his vineyard in Geyserville a few days ago. That meal was truly amazing. Skip this one and head to Sonoma instead!

Although the menu is compact each and every dish is first class ! The Spaghetti and meatballs are fantastic and the service is second to none. Try one of the Coppola wines - grown locally in the Napa Valley.

My husband and I have been in California for two weeks and I was super excited to visit this restaurant because I am huge movie buff. When we arrived we were the only customers in the restaurant. One employees was eating his lunch at the bar which I find weird. The bartender Joshua served us wine then spent his entire time complaining to some other employee about how he hated working happy hour because the customers are cheap and don't tip "they just come in for the cheap drinks." We wanted to order food but he was too busy talking about his art career. We asked some other employee to place an order and he said " your bartender will do that." And he walked off. We finally ordered this meet and cheese plate and he asked us if we wanted bread we said we will just take whatever comes with it. Condescendingly said "it doesn't cost extra, it's free." We weren't concerned with the price. He never checked on us, kept talking about his art. We paid and left. So disappointing. We then went to Original Joes and had excellent service and spent 200 and left a 20% tip. If you are a fan of Coppolas watch The Godfather, skip the restaurant.

The ingredients are excellent and the preparation perfect. The pasta are cooked perfectly, and the simple ones like tomato basil or puttanesca are addictive. You also can't go wrong with the pizzas. The value is as good as it gets in the city.

We noted this restaurant when on the SF movie tour as it’s owned by FF Coppola. My son is a movie fan and for his 21st we thought we should go there. It did not disappoint. Pre booking is required as it’s quite small inside. Between us we had a pizza, the calzone, the short ribs and the house special of beef lasagna. For starters we tried the calamari and the mushrooms. All very tasty and good portion sizes. $150 for the four (excluding wine - and there is a large choice) that I thought reasonable. Would recommend it.

I enjoyed a delicious lunch here in New Year’s Eve. It wasn’t very crowded which was great for me. The wait staff were all friendly and attentive. The thin crust pizza was very good. I also sampled 3 wines; I chose 3 of Francis Ford Coppola’s and they were all delicious.

Wow ,what a place! This was so interesting! Owned by Francis ford Coppola it's decorated beautifully, with tons of interesting pictures. The calzone we had for lunch was outstanding, along with some Coppola wine!

Stumbled upon Zeotrope while walking through town. The building is distinctive and dramatic, the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. We had coffee, served in an appropriate authentic Italian espresso-drink style, and sat in the window to people-watch. Didn't try the food or wine, but what was served to other customers looked and smelled inviting.

We stumbled upon this corner restaurant, looking for a late dinner. Decided on pizzas and dessert (tiramisu), and were not disappointed. It's a nicely looking place, the food was excellent, and the waiter was very accommodating.

I booked Cafe Zoetrope based on my love for all things Coppola and brought my wife and mother in law for dinner. Positives - lovely room, amazing building and the movie memorabilia, for a fan, is wonderful. The food was good, large servings, but nothing exceptional. The service was good from some of the wait staff. Negatives - unfortunately our evening here was ruined by a group at the bar being obnoxious. They were clearly friends of some of the waiting staff - our waiter was having a beer with them during his shift! - and, farcically, one was going back and forth to the stereo, turning it up. Subsequently, one of the other employees would then turn it down. This happened on repeat about 5 times and was incredibly annoying. Then this same character put on a record, loud, music completely unsuited to a neighbourhood Italian, with swearing etc. After 2 songs, my wife complained, the music was taken off and things seemed to settle down after that. But this destroyed our enjoyment of our meal on our last night in San Francisco. Pretty disappointing I'm afraid.

We researched this restaurant and we were not surprised how lovely it is.We visited on a Saturday lunchtime and had the table d hote menu of rocket and Parmesan salad starter and Lasagne main for 15 dollars, which by American standards is so so cheap. The Lasagne was simply the best I’ve ever eaten, seasoned and cooked to perfection .The service was extremely attentive and w3 would throughly RECOMMEND this restaurant to dine at.I would suggest booking in advance.

Great italian food served in a funky building with good service, it doesn't get any better. The menu is comprehensive portion sizes are just right and the ambience is quite cool particularly as you're sitting in a famous film directions restaurant! Its worth a visit

Unplanned stop for a bite to eat and a drink. Seemed strange that the wine list did not show prices by the bottle. Only had a brunch sandwich, but this was great and very tasty. Nice decor that is very interesting.

We just happened to stop in to this restaurant unaware of the history of the place photo's throughout of famous directors ect., cool story clips machine, very good food, outtakes from the godfather films all done here apparently we had spaghetti and meatballs, bruschetta (they made on request for us) Panna Cotta and Tiramisu all were very good service was very good as well very quaint place that made you want to stay awhile for sure wish we would have gone back before we left

I found the place a little unfriendly and the service poor. I've been a couple of times before and found the manager in particular to be quite dismissive and not very interested in the customers. Last night was no exception. When I asked for a table for one he asked for a minute and went off to talk to his staff about something else totally ignoring me standing in the middle of the room! Eventually a waiter asked if he could help and I repeated the request. Overall the service was very haphazard - and I was never sure who my server was. The steak and spinach were bland and unseasoned - and quite disappointing - but the wine and beer were very good .. Particularly the Zoetrope Chardonnay. I think they have work to do as it's clear they're relying on something other than the food and service to appeal

Stopped here after eating at House of Nanking. Owned by Francis Ford Coppola, quaint but elegant decor with nice cocktails and FFC/Inglenook wines. We did not try the food but drinks were great.

Found this place by accident as were wandering around North Beach. Just wanted to have drink at the bar which was fine. There are some very interesting pictures in here which are worth checking out. To be honest didn't feel that we were made to feel that welcome here, in fact us having a drink at the bar seemed like an inconvenience to the staff, but when a local came in to eat at the bar they were made to feel so welcome. Guess it might be a place if you know the team you get different service. I hope that maybe the team were just having a bit of off day and if you do visit you have a great time and a nice meal.

We happened upon this place while wandering the area looking for some food. It was very busy but i was able to get a seat up at the bar. The place has a really nice feel to it. Decor is classy, bar and waiting staff were great. Food was good. Atmosphere was convivial, everyone was friendly and chatty.

Apart from the famous owner this cafe is located within a stunning architectural gem on an emblematic San Francisco corner which probably brings in a lot of punters. Unfortunately that is the best that can be said about this place, when staff outnumber the clients and you're still kept waiting for service then something is seriously wrong. Although my visit was just for afternoon cocktails hands down it was the worst bar/restaurant experience of my trip to the city. Rude staff verging on the incompetent and highly unaccommodating! There are so many great places nearby I can't imagine why anyone would come here!

This restaurant is owned by Francis Ford Coppola and is known for it's beautiful setting and it's Italian food. The food was great! we had Chicken Picante, Caesar Salad and did a flight wine tasting of all of 6 of his wines! Both were flavorful. it's a great dining experience. If you're in the city we highly recommend.

Quick stop for lunch here, great service and beautiful building. Huge wine selection as well. Very unique interiors.

From their website: Named for owner Francis Ford Coppola’s innovative film studio, American Zoetrope, Cafe Zoetrope is located in the majestic Sentinel Building, a San Francisco historic landmark in the heart of North Beach. Cafe Zoetrope is a European-style cafe that serves authentic Italian cuisine as well as international specialties, and features an expansive wine selection, including premium offerings from the award-winning Francis Ford Coppola Winery in Sonoma County. A casual and welcoming setting inside, the cafe walls are decorated with one-of-a-kind mementos spanning Francis’s celebrated film career, while the awnings and heated sidewalks make dining outside enjoyable, even in foggy San Francisco weather. We accidentally found Cafe Zoetrope while passing by it on an architectural tour. This restaurant/bar is owned by Francis Ford Coppola. The building itself is unique and it has its landmark symbol to the downtown area. This place looked interesting so several of us came back here after our tour for drinks. Cafe Zoetrope is on the first floor of the sentinel building which was built in 1907 and is on the corner of Kearny and Columbus. This place is awesome; there are many Coppola's wine here for sale and to drink. Pictures of Francis and George Lucas are all over the place. The décor is unique and this whole place has a laid back environment. The walls were filled with mementos from Francis Coppola's films, travels and perhaps inspirations. The music played included jazz, Ray Charles, and a song from the soundtrack for Apocalypse Now. We did not eat here so cannot comment on the food.

again this is really about ambiance - if your a movie fan its definitely worth a look, great decor with alot of film memorabilia as after all this is Francis place. Food is simple but good and teh wine (his own) heady stuff. shame tripadvisor goes from average to very good - this place is actually neither its just good

Had a confirmed reservation. They had my contact email and phone number. Travelled specifically there from out of town. It was shut for Easter. Thanks for the curtesy of bothering to let us know and ruining our Easter Day. 🤬😡

I visited the cafe with my partner. The maître was amazing. She helped us choosing the correct wines and the food. I'll always come back.

Ordered calamari and a Ceaser salad. Both were good and of course the ceaser salad was excellent. If you are going to be in town and are craving Itallian you have to stop here and eat. You may want to make reservations as it is small and a popular place. They got a 4 out of 5 because the waiter forgot about us at one point.

Unexpected find, unassuming and a cool vibe. Food is good. Place is a meant for enjoying life and good conversation. I loved it.

Filled with character, this historic landmark offers quaint dining, delicious food, great wine list, and lots of nostalgia. Peruse the Francis Coppola mementos inside!

Thought this looked like a nice place for a meal. Arrived by 9:15 on a Thursday night with closing listed as 10:00. Was told they weren’t serving food anymore that night. Walked across the street for Chinese.

There was no excuse for the pretentious, painfully slow service. As a previous reviewer said, there are too many other great places in San Francisco so I would not recommend this place.

Beyond the Hollywood connection with the Coppola family - the food was delicious. The wine, even better! We had the Pinot Noir - and it was a winner! Felt a bit cramped - maybe due to the angular shape of the building being on a corner. It is a beautiful building..... Worth the visit. Nice staff, fair prices, great location. Parking is on the street or a few steps away in a local lot.

Saturday night, visiting San Francisco for the first time. Most of the top reviewed restaurants were full and we were looking for an interesting place to have a light dinner. We found this cozy restaurant and ordered some Italian style food. We were happy of the choice But it closes a bit early

Nice restaurant serving excellent wines and italian pastas. We went for the meatballs pasta, it was a real treat. The carbo arra missed seasoning and cream. Good pinot noir, and very friendly service. There's a good vibe in the restaurant, with a lot of nice pics of Francis Ford Coppola. We loved it.

This is the famous Coppola restaurant, although I have been there only for a coffee, the atmosphere is worth a visit

Lots of Francis Ford Coppola memorabilia. Delicious braised lamb shank, chicken cacciatore, salads, appetizers and desserts. And of course a great selection of alcoholic beverages. Fun place, good service and food.

This restaurant, owned by Francis Ford Coppola, is in his flatiron building. The interior is very attractive and the wine list, mostly Coppola wines, is very reasonably priced. The food, disappointedly, is only average. I was disappointed. I really wanted to like this place.

We walked into zoetrope in an iconic flatiron after a very disappointing birthday dinner for my daughters 17 th birthday the previous day . Things couldn't have been more different . The waiter was lovely and service was great. My teens as avid readers loved the story printing machine and the funny memorabilia in the cafe . Lunch was pizzas but they were good and the lovely waiter threw in a surprise tiramisu as my daughter's birthday cake ... What a difference to Greens ! We loved it and will definitely go back .

I only had a glass of sparkling wine there and therefore cannot comment on the food, but the building and decor are absolutely beautiful, and the wine list is excellent. They also fill the glasses properly, and that's always a nice surprise.

Came to this restaurant on my last night in Sean Francisco. The restaurant was nice in itself, however staff could probably be a tad more attentive. Ordered one of their Italian Sausage and mushroom pizzas which in fairness tasted very nice. Probably would return.

Lovely little cafe where you can sample the francis ford coppola wines and enjoy a nice range of Italian dishes. The decor inside is interesting and full of character. Staff are friendly.

Asado was very good. Pene arbiata was good. All other dishes we received were tasty. Service was excellent. Pls note that if you like the asado meat with medium, you may ask for "less than medium"

It i sstill fascinating, even if it lost a bit of charm, this Coppola restaurant. The service is very impersonal, the wine its very interesting and honestly prices, the food fairly goos and the location, at the border of North Beach, Chinatown and the Financiall District, really great. Very nice atmosphere, however, needs some new vibe and a little bit more professional and enthusiastic service

Stopped in after nine or so and they were no longer serving food, but the waiter found some snacks, spent some time with us, etc. Looks like a nice place for a quiet meal or celebration as the small group next to us was having a birthday celebration. Had fun on a bathroom break checking out all the "stuff" on the walls and the unique corner location creates an interesting configuration for the tables and bar. Staff were friendly and showed no weariness from, I'm sure, the ample number of tourists visiting.

This restaurant is nicely located heading up the hill towards Coit Tower. It’s famous owner is Francis Ford Coppola, featuring his wines and movie memorabilia. A co-worker had worries that it would be touristy - I would not call it touristy at all, it has a lot of charm on its own as a restaurant and bar. The service was impeccable and friendly. The surroundings were very cozy and there is an intimacy about the space, with its cozy alcoves and mirrors that make the space feel larger than it is. We dropped by to have a drink before dinner. We had an appetizer (broccoli rabe, excellent). I took the recommendation from the waiter for the wine (Viognier Russian Valley) which was very nice and I purchased a bottle (which is cheaper to buy there than on the market), it served as a lovely souvenir. A curiosity was a fellow dressed in a gangster, looking like someone out of a Godfather movie. Complete with a vintage car parked outside. He was happy to take photos with us, it made quite a memory. The location, decor, service, food, wine, everything was lovely. I look forward to returning.

Had a nice lunch in this Coppola owned restaurant. Had grilled chicken sandwich and muffalatta. Both excellent as was the wine. Not crowded mid afternoon. Cozy atmosphere.

We ate here whist visiting San Francisco, we didn't book, just walked in. The food and service are both very good and prompt. Great choice on the menu of food, not just Pizza's

This is an interesting building with a restaurant tucked in. The walls are filled with the movie sets of Francis Ford Coppola and his wines are available. The tables are cozy and tucked in for an intimate setting. The food is very good with a great selection of pastas and italian food. Delightful!

Great old building Gives the restaurant and cozy urban feel. We ordered a pizza that came with a selection of antipasto items on the side for the toppings. It was a little odd and we not order it again, but we misunderstood the waitress. I would definitely give it another try because the food looked wonderful but we just mis ordered.

Just happened to be in town for Chinese New Year parade and found this location was on part of the route. It worked out perfectly! Staff was very welcoming and accommodating to work us in along with their existing reservations. Great food and drinks. Excellent location!

I am sure there are many other better italian places in town. Most salient feature here is the Coppola winery. Place is owned by Francis, hence lots of pictures and movies memorabilia. Rude service.

We managed to snag an early reservation before a show at this small cafe owned by Francis Ford Coppola and were glad we did as the place filled up immediately afterwards. The menu is good basic Italian food--not fancy, just good. The ambiance is Ford memorabilia from movies and wine. It felt like a small neighborhood hangout. Would love to return and spend more time enjoying a leisurely meal and sampling a few more wines.

This is a Coppola effort, and when you order wine, it's easy to tell. Not sure I've been to an Italian restaurant that didn't offer at least one Chianti. Inside is nice and quaint, well appointed, including a large painting of a completely nude woman. But this is San Fracisco. Food is average, nothing spetacular but not bad. Plentiful portions. Wait staff can best be described as abundant and tentative, appearing to not really know when/how to interact with customers. Being on Columbus Ave., on the fringe of North Beach, the presumption would be that it would be a memorable Italian food experience. Not so. Other places on Columbus do it much better for the same price.

We were part of a group from Monroe, MI touring wine country and stopped at this café to eat. What a delicious meal. Reasonably priced and large servings. We mostly ordered different meals and by the time all was said and done, everybody was bragging how good their meal was that everybody shared a bite or two, and there was plenty to share. Cute café and the service was excellent. I will go back in my future travels.

I've been walking by this beautiful building for many years and last weekend we waited too long to have brunch...walking towards Upper Grant for Italian as we walked across the street we got the best view of two lovely ladies beginning their spaghetti and meatballs and linguini with clams. The aroma was as fragrant and inviting as the decor of the bistro but ... This was outside on a brisk, sunny Sunday! My guy ordered pizza he thought was the best outside of New York! I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs to share. I just wanted to own that plate of pasta! It was big enough for two but gorgeously mine! It will be on my list of restaurants, it can't be all about Quince, Zuni and Michael Mina all the time!

A rally French, better Parisan impression ... nice to sit outside in the sun, enjoying an iced cappuccino- friendly service. also ... it is a beautiful building where this cafe is in!

I've had nothing but amazing experiences in San Francisco and Cafe Zoetrope is no exception. Not only is this restaurant part of Hollywood Royalty - with photos and trinkets everywhere - but the food and the wine is amazing!!! The pasta was delicious and the wine flights were a great treat to be able to taste. The service was also great, and not only would I recommend this restaurant but I cannot wait to go back!

We passed by this restaurant after eating at Trestle. We went inside to look since this was Coppala's building and restaurant. The revolving door was amazingly different and I can't really describe it. The inside had a front room and back room with small tables. The manager Lydia was so friendly and spoke to us for awhile. We made a reservation to come back the next night. I had chicken and my husband had meatballs and spaghetti. The preparation is home cooked style. We met people next to us and the evening turned out to be a lot of fun.

It was the striking appearance of the Sentinel Building (aka Columbus Tower) that first caught our attention. Cafe Zoetrope is located on the street level of this gorgeous flat-iron building. We learned that the building and the cafe are owned by Francis Ford Coppola. American Zoetrope, the film production company founded by Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas and now owned by Roman and Sofia Coppola, continues to be headquartered there. Some cinematic greats, such as Apocalypse Now and The Godfather II & III, were conceived in the Sentinel building. It has a colorful pre-Coppola history: The Kingston Trio housed their recording studio here for several years, a popular comedy club ran from the space and prior to World War II, a few local political bosses headquartered there. Friendly waitstaff told us there were seats at a small counter near the bar but all other tables were reserved. The restaurant is small and fills up quickly, thus reservations are essential. We ordered and our meals arrived quickly. The Pizza Originale was delicious. My husband ordered pasta with sausage and broccoli rabe and finished every last bite. He also enjoyed a glass of Coppola wine. There is Coppola memorabilia on the walls, particularly on the steps leading downstairs to the restrooms. Pretty cool if you're a film buff! I'd recommend a visit to Cafe Zoetrope if you enjoy Italian food and wine. Fun place, not too expensive, good service! Seems like reservations are a good idea - we just lucked out in that counter space was available and that was fine for us.

Francis Ford Coppola's little restaurant represent a good selection of his own wines, great decor and basic but quality Italian food.

Great place. Good vibe, charming setting, attentive and knowledgeable staff, nice food and not too expensive and plenty of FFC for the fans. Oh, and a wine list to die for!

I have walked past this interesting building a few times and decided to stop for lunch. Inside there pictures from the film director Francis Ford Coppola’s career and his Zoetrope Studio has offices with the Columbus Tower building. The waiter told me that I could sit at the bar or have a window ledge seat. As a person dining alone, I completely understand. However this was Wednesday afternoon at lunchtime. There were literally 3-4 couples eating. Why I couldn’t have sat in a small table when the restaurant is nearly empty, I have no idea. The wine selection features wine from the Coppola Family estate. I ordered a DIAMOND COLLECTION glass of Sauvignon Blanc. It was fine but slightly sweet for my palate. Free fresh bread (with olive oil & balsamic) is served and my Pasta Puttanesca wasn’t as ‘busty’ as traditional puttanesca should be. I had to add chilli flakes to give it a punch and I couldn’t taste any of the anchovies that are standard in this type of sauce. Staff are quick but not particularly polite. No one asked how my meal was as they were more interested in clearing my dish before I was finished eating. Fine place to go but not anything special. I feel are trading more on their famous connection than delivering simple and delicious Italian cuisine.

The historical triangle-shaped Sentinel Building has been headquarters for Francis Ford Coppola's AMERICAN ZOETROPE movie production company since 1971. At the corner you will find a narrow revolving door into a comfortable wood-paneled bar / cafe which expands before your eyes. We stopped for an afternoon break with some marvelous (and reasonably priced) Pinot Noir from the Coppola Vineyards and enjoyed the celebrity pictures covering the walls.

We were walking in this area taking photographs and we needed at least an hour for the sun to be further round in the sky to light up the facade of this beautiful building. What finer place to fill in an hour than the very location we wished to photograph. From a fine menu we had home made broccoli soup served with fresh Italian bread and accompanied with a glass of chilled white wine, and finished with a VERY Italian cappucino.

Great meal here in a building that is on a corner and is similar looking to the Flat Iron in NYC. Restaurant owned by Francis Ford Coppola but not a gimmicky place! Great calamari appetiser to share, bottle of the Francis Ford Coppola red wine, and 2 pizza - the sausage and the meatball one! TOTALLY recommend. Delicious, fresh and nice friendly service. We made a reservation but they can accommodate walk-ins too.

Went for lunch with some friends and wasn't expecting much, as it's a bit of a "touristy" place in North Beach, and they usually have bad food, bad service, or both. The service was quite good, attentive but not intrusive. The house red wine (blend) carafe, was pretty tasty and fairly priced. I had their meatball pizza which they are known for, and it was better than expected. They claim NY quality (not quite), but by SF standards, pretty good. All in all, good food, god wne, good service. I was impressed.

Trip Advisor says it is closed Monday's but it is open. The restaurant is in a unique building and is decorated with Coppala memorabilia. I ordered the special Lamb and it was fall off the bone Great! I would recommend the tiramisu for dessert.

Had lunch before the Chinese New Year Parade. Sat at a sidewalk table on the first sunny day SF has had in quite awhile, so pleasant! We had the spinach frittata and the sausage frittata, both excellent. The server recommended the Tiramisu for dessert, it was also excellent. Highly recommend this restaurant!

I ordered the house special of Short ribs but they were treated like a steak so tough and not good. Lot's of potential but really sub parr. Too bad

Stopped in for a last minute dinner. The tiny place seemed empty at 7pm but quickly filled up with eclectic mix of diners. The Churrasca was outstanding as was the calamari appetizer. They have a great wine selection and full bar. The ambiance was hipster hushed. Quiet enough for a chat but alive enough to be entertained. Best dessert was the apple tart with gelato.

This restaurant is owned by Francis Ford Coppola and is known for it's beautiful but quaint setting and it's Italian food. The food was terrific, my wife had Chicken Scarpiello and I had the Spaghetti Pomodoro. Both were wonderful with ample portions and when you top it off with some of his wine from his winery in Sonoma County it's a great dining experience. Our waiter Luke did an excellent job as well....we'll go back. If you're in the city we highly recommend.

We had a delightful meal at Cafe Zoetrope. Service was very good. I am impressed also at the staff's ability to walk those stairs from the kitchen to bring us the delightful food. We enjoyed their special gnocchi for the day; as well as their very good Argentine short ribs. My husband had a glass of pernod to start the meal. We enjoyed Coppola winery Director Cut Cabernet Sauvignon with dinner. For dessert we shared the delightful affogato (ice cream with espresso). We enjoyed the atmosphere and was also impressed by the wine racks there.

This is Francis Ford Coppola's restaurant I believe. Fantastic architecture. Good service, excellent food and efficient service and very reasonable. I was in San Francisco for four nights and I ate there twice.

Picked this restaurant as we are movie fans and knew it was owned by Francis Ford Coppola. We were surprised it was very quiet when we visited - it was 6pm on a week day and it does close early - especially after trying the food, as it was great. Definitely the best meal we had in San Francisco, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. Son had huge pizza, I had a pasta dish which was lovely and husband had very tasty chicken cacciatore. Highly recommend, and the building it is in is stunning.

Stopped in upon arriving in San Francisco and missing the BART stop I had originally planned on using and then realizing Cafe Zoetrope was only a few blocks walk. Very cozy, wonderful selection of memorabilia to explore, good food, good wine and a friendly staff. Wine recommendations from my waiter were spot on. The next evening I'd planned on visiting with friends so I brought them along and we had a lovely evening and were served by the same waiter who was excellent once again. I will be back & hopefully will run into Francis so I can thank him for this most enjoyable cafe.

The wine is wonderful, and sitting in the intimate restaurantwas a great afternoon break. Try a tasting if you can't decide which wine you want.

This is a lovely, historic, friendly, quiet spot to sit enjoy good drink, food good and good company. Highly recommend

I was here for a conference. I walked passed this beautiful place and thought I would stop in for a bit. The menu was simple and classic. The cocktail menu was also simple but the drinks are delicious - really nice classic cocktails. The pizza was more than enough for one. Definitely would recommend to other and come back myself.

We went here twice for lunch. The Caprese salad is to die for, but while not on the official menu, they will make it for you. The ambiance is cool - a small place in a flatiron building near Little Italy and Chinatown in San Francisco. The cafe is decorated with movie memorabilia and is owned by Francis Ford Coppola. Apparently he comes in for a meal whenever he's in town, which is once or twice a month. Very good, simple Italian food, courteous service and a nice ambiance. The menu is limited, but there should be something for everyone. Best cappuccino we've had in the US...tasted like Italy!

very comfortable, old fashioned San Francisco restaurant. good variety of foods, very nice wine list. It is owned by a famous California movie mogul - Francis Ford Coppola. Hence the quality of the restaurant is very high.

Great menu and service! They had the best gluten free pasta with meatballs :). Started with a very fresh fennel orange salad that was fantastic! Laid back atmosphere and cozy, historic decor.

The building comes to a point at an odd sort of intersection, so it offers a lot of character. Service was great; all our meals were great, very helpful with the wine list. Nice atmosphere, obviously windows on both sides to see the city go by.

Cafe Zoetrope is part of Francis Ford Coppola's gastronomic empire. It's primarily a wine bar featuring Coppola varietals, but also offers a number of other good wines, all at reasonable prices (for San Francisco). The atmosphere is warm and inviting, like a European bistro, especially welcoming when there's a cold wind blowing off the bay. The accompanying food plays second fiddle to the wines. The malefatti (cheesy dumplings in a beautiful rose sauce), recommended by a "regular", were excellent and went well with our torrontes. He was obviously enjoying his steak. The pork riblets were another matter: over salted and overcooked, fatty with hardly any meat on the bone. The manager did adjust the bill for them when we complained. On the whole we left less than satisfied; there are so many better places in San Francisco, even in this neighborhood bordering Chinatown and North Beach.

Great atmosphere, loved the short story machine, nice waitstaff. I ordered the cream of portobello soup and my daughter ordered the prosciutto pizza. Maybe it was all the high sodium, maybe it was something else, but within 20 minutes of eating, I wasn’t feeling well. If you can’t “do” high sodium, this is not your restaurant. It’s now been 3 hours, and I’m still unwell. But the restaurant and staff were nice.

We happened upon Cafe Zoetrope, The ambiance and layout was lovely, so we were looking forward to our meal. To be honest, it was disappointing ! I had Pollo Cacciatore. It was just a chicken thigh and a leg in a lukewarm soup. My son had Spaggetti Vongole. Very Bland. My husband had ribs, just ok. Wine was good but expensive. If I'm spendin $165, I would like to feel satisfied. We had a good night, but would have liked to have left feeling delighted, and like my meal, our feeling was Lukewarm

Cafe is nice with lots of memorabilia around. The menu is limited from my experiences in NY. Lots of pizza and calzone choices at $20 a plate or more. One glass of wine, steak entree, a tea, and cannoli with tip $100. Waiter Luke was great. Kinda looked like Paul Newman!

A simple business lunch- I felt like having meat balls and spaghetti, simple enough right? The bread was mediocre, the spaghetti was over cooked and the meat balls were dry. Is the spaghetti cooked in advance and reheated to order? That would be a disgrace for any professional to try and do. Was it just overcooked ? On the bright side, the service was very good

Lovely little vibe, strong Italian influence with some celebrity photos on the wall. Service was very good, pricey but so is everything in San Fran. I had meatballs and my friend had a pizza! It was very flavoursome! Defo recommend this place.

Stopped in for a quick bite to eat at Coppola's restaurant after visiting his winery several weeks ago. Nice selection of salads, sandwiches, pasta and pizza. Extensive (Coppola) wine list with a few offerings from Italy. Service was good. Food delicious. Parking was a problem but overall visit was positive. Recommend trying the mufalata sandwich - a New Orleans specialty.

We chose Cafe Zoetrope after two different tour guides recommended it and it did not disappoint!! The food was amazing and the wine list extensive! We chose the Carbonara and the Gnocchi and they were delish. Both dishes were enough for tree ladies to share.

We went into Café Zoetrope initially out of Coppola curiosity and intending only to have a drink. The place looks great. And we got tempted by the good old fashioned Italian menu. Big mistake. We both ordered very basic pasta dishes, hard to do badly you hope, but they were truly awful. Badly cooked, coarse and poorly seasoned. Stale bread was the 'last straw'. We complained, and were met with such rudeness from the manager, including a refusal to reimburse us for an uneaten meal, that we have been prompted to write a bad review on TA for the first time ever. If you are a film buff have a drink there, but if you want to eat, try any other Italian in SF.

Thank you Mr. Francis Ford Coppola for this charming place in SF Your spirit is definitely here The service is very professional The Italian food here is authentic We are definitely in Roma The plate of charcuterie and cheese delicious The Gorgonzola, the Taleggio and the prosciutto sublime. We love the Inglenook Cab..!!! Do not forget the Tiramisu .. mamamia.. A must in San Francisco

very cozy restaurant with really good food and excellent wine made by Copolla's family. We want on a Sunday evening, the place was not too busy. Service was also really good.

After walking and walking in SF and Marin we wanted a cozy warm dinner with good wine. This was perfect. Food and wine were really good. Vibe was low key. A place where you can finish your glass of wine and talk.
A must for those interested in the movies.
We had dinner here. Good Italian food in Francis Ford Coppola's restaurant. The walls are covered in memorabilia and photographs. The food was delicious, some specials and a variety of pastas and pizzas. Fresh good tasty food.
