Good lunch

By MartyBrian |

Good lunch menu, I had a very good beet salad with goat cheese and arugula. Beautiful presentation and very good salad. My only criticism is the size of the restaurant and the acoustics. Small space with really bad acoustics when crowded. It was very difficult to have a conversation with my friend.

Such a beautiful place

By lindencraig |

We loved brunch (frittata, crab benedict, and waffle). The space is really beautiful and the service was great.

Great place for Breakfast or Lunch and Dinner Friday (BYOB)

By Stuart R |

Great for Breakfast or lunch. We have not tried Friday night dinner (YET!). A perfect place to start the day. There is enough variety so that everyone will be pleased. The atmosphere is bright because it is in a greenhouse. Service is cheerful and quick but the food is the star. The line outside before opening at 10 AM on Sunday says it all !

I wanted to love Cake. I wanted this to be our beloved Sunday brunch spot. From the outside it looks so romantic: an old greenhouse attached to a wonderful florist turned into a restaurant. But once you walk through the door the dream dies. Inside is pretty run down. Not dirty but beat up. The furniture, the walls, the bathrooms all look like they haven't been touched in years. The service is painfully slow and not thorough. Something is usually forgotten and your food might go cold waiting for a server to come back. The food is just ok. The menu is uninspired and perhaps that's comfort food to some. But I've had much better basic brunch in a diner...and there happens to be a diner just down the Hill. Newcomers like El Poquito and Paris are better bets if you can't get out of CH for brunch. Better atmosphere and much better food.

wonderful little restaurant

By arlenemurphy |

Dont let the name CAKE fool you. We were in the area on Sunday during the Labor Day weekend and thought we would give it a try for brunch. We had a 45 min wait, but they took our cell number. So we walking thru the quaint area and returned back. Place is small and noisy but the brunch was absolutely worth it. I had crab cakes with poached eggs with hollandaise sauce drizzled..just enough! A few spears of asparagus adorned the plate and crispy potatoes and toast finished off the entree. Crabcakes were delicious and eggs done to perfection. Based on my experience, it appeared the best time to go would be around 1:30pm. Seemed the crowd died down. Looking foward to going back very soon. Prices were very reasonable. My dish was $15.00.

A Greenhouse not just for flowers

By Lynn U |

Family from out of town debated where to get together for a casual but good dinner. Jean gave directions and there we were, in front of just the loveliest greenhouse. Cake serves good quality ingredients, well prepared and beautifully presented in a setting of greenery and openness. We brought one of those very special occasion wines which our waiter uncorked. I simply had to have tastes of the desserts so ordered several and we sliced. Everyone said" No I shouldn't" but yes, they did. I hear it gets noisy when the place is packed. Try a weekday evening; our table was filled with our own conversation.

Food, service and experience are good

By Booboo123340 |

Went on a Sunday morning. Busy but not mobbed - still summer. Food is very good and plenty for the price. Service is good. Food can come out on the slow side. Atmosphere on a sunny day is really great.

Rat poison

By Captkave |

We sat near the window by the main entrance. I noticed a couple of green chunks on a partial stone wall. I took a close look and realized they're bait mouse. That was a big turn off. I understand many restaurants have infestations but don't make it too obvious by let customers see baits to catch little creatures.

Good food and atmosphere, Limited menu though

By Alicia M |

The food is great, and the atmosphere is lovely with the large amount of natural daylight and plants, but the menu is quite limited. I was there for lunch and while there is plenty of cakes/ pastries, and plenty of salad type dishes, there is very little in between. I had the quiche which was great. There was also a burger. I would have liked a selection of wraps or cheese/ meat plates, or omelettes perhaps.

Amazing place!

By oceanlady999 |

What a beautiful place to meet for a meal One is surrounded by greenery in a greenhouse! Food is exceptional & interesting I did not try the sweets but they looked amazing

Wonderful brunch!

By 26happytravels |

If you want to have a different brunch or just tea with your friends, that's the place to go. It's small, so make sure you call to make a reservation.

Lunch

By Wil012014 |

The food is consistently well prepared and presented. We had the Salmon BLT and the Grilled Cheese. Both were excellent. The salmon was delicious! Only complaint is that because of the hard surfaces and the very high glass ceiling it is very noisy. The wait staff are helpful and attentive.

Beautiful space just off Germantown Road in Chestnut Hill

By collinstw |

We ordered takeaway pastries for the trip home to NYC. Everything in the case looked spectacular, difficult to make a choice. The restaurant is open and airy, a beautiful setting for brunch or lunch.

Cake is DELIGHTFUL!

By Ursula K |

My twin sister and I decided to have breakfast here since it was too drizzly to walk Forbidden Drive. I got the Brioche French Toast with Strawberries, Peach Butter and Lancaster Farms Maple Syrup...YUMMMMMM! My sister got the quiche and potatoes which she really enjoyed. The atmosphere is really delightful! Both girls working there were very friendly. By the time we were done, the weather had cleared a bit and we could walk off our breakfast! :D

Great Brunch and more

By Jillydraff |

I went here for Brunch with friends for my birthday & it was truly wonderful. We had brought champagne for mimosas and the food was spectacular. They have everything from brioche french toast to frittatas to breakfast burritos. The restaurant is just gorgeous - you are surrounded by glass windows (like a green house), pretty flowers and plants and the floor is made of stone. I have also been here for dinner and for a fundraising event as well. It is the perfect setting for all of the above.

Good setting and nice service

By Callantine |

We enjoyed a delightful evening at Cake tonight. The server was attentive but not intrusive. The food was good and the setting (noise, ambience, etc.) was very good.

Beautiful atmosphere

By Stephanie_MEL |

Dining at Cake is like dining in an outdoor garden - absolutely charming. I had the apple frangipan tart and my husband had the crumb tart. They were both delicious, and we would definitely return to Cake in a heartbeat!

great everything!

By Kara M |

Looking for a brunch spot to escape the brutal humidity on a summer day, we found our way to Cake and what a wonderful oasis! It's an cozy atrium style restaurant with an appealing menu including everything from the amazing frittatas to yummy salads and more substantial entrees. My daughter and I shared a frittata (huge, so thank goodness for that) and a salad with cashews and apples. The servers were pleasant, the wait time appropriate, and no one rushed us at all.Our only regret was not leaving room for dessert because it all looked delicious.

Lovely setting, delicious food

By Rachel K |

This is a special place both in terms of ambiance and food. Some delicious menu offerings, fresh ingredients, and tasty meals. The only downside is it's small, so you really do seem to have to make a reservation. We took our 3 year old daughter, and though others were having special events and it was a romantic setting, the staff were kind and welcoming, and accommodated her well. I think I'd love to go back with just my husband.

Visit Cake for atmosphere first, food second

By WhatKindOfDog |

The best thing about Cake is the ambiance. It's set in the old greenhouse section of Robertson's Florists. High ceilings, lots of light. A very pleasant place to dine, whether for lunch or dinner (BYO.) The food is not to complain about, although not especially interesting or well-prepared. If you're into desserts, this might be a great choice (we never order dessert, but they look beautiful.)

I paid for the location.

By skycastle |

Cake is in the pleasant Chestnut Hill area and my friend and I ate there for lunch Saturday, August 31. The dining space is rather cramped with small wooden tables and chairs. You have the option of eating outside but I prefer to dine indoors at restaurants. The burger was good. The "creamy" coleslaw it came with was watery and didn't have any taste. The cranberry juice was watered down. If you want to order dessert you have to go up to the dessert counter near the entrance, pick what you want and then they'll bring it over to your table. That's a little odd. The pecan square I chose was harder than I expected and I had difficulty cutting into it with a knife and fork. I finally just picked it up and ate it but then it was crumbly. The setting was quaint but the meal was not worth $24 including the customary 15% tip. The juice was about $2 and the dessert was $3. Also, if you look at their menu online and make your entree decision then, call Cake to confirm that what you want is still offered on their current menu.

A popular quality spot, excellent food & service

By John L W |

Cake is a favorite among only a handful of local spots. Well designed and tasty food selections, unique garden-house design. Only mild negative - lack of sound absorption can make it noisy when crowded - but happy noise.

so embarassed to bring international friends here this morning

By rita r |

We have some friends visiting from New Zealand and we spent this morning exploring Chestnut Hill. The wife wanted coffee and a little snack (about 10:45) before we set out for the Morris Arboretum and I said- 'let's go to Cake.' We go in- it's not terribly full. We request a table for 5, so they jam a chair onto the end of a 4 top. that's fine- we can be cozy. Then, we ordered our coffee and some pastries. The waitress says: 'just so you know, for next time- we don't usually seat people for just coffee and pastries. You usually have to order breakfast or come back after 3.' I asked 'does it say that on the menu or on the door? ' She said "no, it's on the website, though." I said- 'well, we were just wandering through town and didn't actually look at the website first.' Personally, I feel if that's your policy then it should be obvious. Before I wrote this review, I checked the website. I couldn't find anything about when you could or could not order just pastries and coffee. Besides, if your restaurant is called "CAKE" then, i don't think you should be at all surprised or put out if people just order pastries. It's not called "FULL BREAKFAST", after all. Anyway, they won't have to worry about a next time from us. we promise to not darken their door again.

I Love Cake!

By Larry M |

We ate breakfast here for the first time on a Tuesday. Not too crowded. Everything was great! I love the ambience! Coffee was good and service was impeccable! Can't wait to get back for lunch or brunch!

Unique

By LA210 |

This is a fun place to bring your girlfriends or your husband or date!! We always enjoy lunch here. It is bright and airy and the food has always been delicious. It is attached to a flower and gift shop so that makes it even more fun. The entire ceiling and walls are glass. I recommend it.

Always have to visit Cake when in town..

By harrishwhippets |

Whenever I visit Chestnut Hill I have to stop in for lunch. They have the best soups and I especially love the beet salad.

Best Breakfast in Philadelphia!

By IMAroundTheWorld |

Nestled among some very cute shops in Chestnut Hill, Cake provides a delicious breakfast in a cute, ex-greenhouse environment. I enjoyed my smoked salmon breakfast very much and the french toast was amazing. I will definitely be back. Double check the hours of opening before you go though. I hear it is also a great place for dinner, but they are not always open for dinner.

Great find in Chesnut Hill

By AP10 |

We have been here for brunch, lunch & recently dinner. It is a small quaint place so you may have to wait for a table. For dinner which is served Thursday & Friday you can make a reservation. It is a byob. The service & food have always been excellent when we have eaten here. The desserts are also very good!

Special place

By 5star1621 |

Atmosphere is in the conservatory of robertsons florist. It is simple but classy. Great for special occasion or just out with friends. Took my parents and had a wonderful dinner. They have a display case with pretty cupcakes and desserts.

A Happy Pretty Place tor Food

By joanz359 |

The space is great. It is an old greenhouse with soaring glass. The menu is not extensive and there are daily specials. If you want to have a leisurely lunch going during the week as it is crowded on weekends and you do feel some pressure to leave as there is not a place for people to wait for tables. It is a BYOB. Save room for sweets the cakes and pastries are very good. You can order cakes for birthdays. No man size portions so if you have a hungry man in your group you might want to order a starter.

Delicious Brunch in Unique setting

By T D |

We've stopped by Cake in Chestnut Hill for some delicious Brunch! The restaurant is located in a converted Greenhouse and also offers baked pastries to go. We had the French Toast and Quiche and it was delicious! Service is fast and friendly. Would definitely stop by again!

Sweet Find

By sharon c |

My friend was visiting for the weekend and of course lunch and shopping was a must. We took a trip to Chestnut Hill and had a delicious brunch at Cake. She had the vegetable quiche with potatoes and I had eggs madam. Both were very tasty. We also split a chocolate pecan pastry that was Devine. Not too sweet but, sweet enough. The restaurant was bright and cheerful as we're the servers. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and plan on going again myself. Sharon C.

Great menu and very good food

By nannerphiladelphia |

I have eaten at Cake twice in the past two months and had delicious meals both times. The grilled cheese sandwich could not have been better and I loved the grain salad.

Lovely, airy space and great brunch

By frankwtravels |

Went here for brunch on a Friday morning, and didn't have a hard time getting a table, though the place was definitely hopping. The service was excellent-- relaxed and happy is how I'd describe the atmosphere. The food was very good-- not ginormous plates, but that's probably for the best. I'd definitely come back for brunch if I were in the area!

It's Not Just The Icing

By mgkmarkr |

On an unusually warm January day my wife & I along with a great friend had lunch at this idyllic, glass enclosed former floral "hot house" to catch up on each of our lives. Cake is not just a bakery, although it's baked goods can rival the best French pastries. It is an oasis for delicious soups, sandwiches and salads for lunch. At dinner, the menu changes to include both small plates & entree size platters to the delight of the "foodies" living in Chestnut Hill and surrounding communities. From the skilled kitchen staff to the delightful servers, dining at Cake is always a satisfying experience from start to dessert. If you're strolling, shopping or just taking in the architectural ambiance of this delightful neighborhood in the western outskirts of Philadelphia, stop in to enjoy a wonderful dining experience. If our amiable server Sarah is working, ask for her and your experience will be enhanced even further. To add to your enjoyment Cake is BYOB. With on street metered parking & public lots, looking for a space to put your car is made relatively easy.

Beautiful setting and decadent desserts!

By Bonnie B |

Located in a beautiful old fashioned greenhouse, you can eat under palm trees and choose from a nice selection of breakfast or lunch treats. Make sure you leave room for dessert or get some to go. Afterwords, you can explore the attached Robertson’s florist shop and other nearby shops in town.

Hidden gem

By Ynadal |

When there's a line in front of a place when it hasn't yet opened, you know that the people must know something. The place only serves brunch and it was delicious. Wish they had espresso...

Bruch is the Best!

By nontrendytraveler |

I love, love, love the brunch here! Great options and good quality! The atmosphere is also very unique.

Good food in a beautiful environment!

By Maggie S |

Cake is a restaurant that is set in the former glass greenhouse structure for a flower shop that is adjacent to it. I went on a sunny day in the summer and it was positively lovely! There is a center fountain with lots of greenery around. It really has the atmosphere of being outdoors without all of the associated sweat in the summer. I was there for brunch and I ordered eggs and bacon a la carte. They were very good. Two of my companions had the French toast and said that it was delicious. The pieces were thick and looked absolutely scrumptious. My other companion had the quiche and loved it as well. The staff was friendly and it is in the middle of the very walkable and super charming Chestnut Hill. On Sundays, street parking is free.

Sunny Happy Brunch Place

By hudsonvalleytrvlr |

Had a delicious brunch here. Be prepared to wait and there's no place to really wait, you're stuck staring at people eating to visit the adjacent store, it's cute. The waitress missed a few things and I had to ask for coffee and water but she apologized and all was well. The food was delicious, well prepared and lots of it. The blueberry lemon bread was dry but the chocolate croissant was amazing. The omelettes were limited but you can change ingredients.

Good food, unique dining room - VERY noisy when we were there (12:30-2:00)

By pachachuck |

This used to be the greenhouse for the florist next door. Pros: (You can walk into the florist shop from the restaurant) The dessert case, on the left as you enter this distinctive glass house, displayed a wide variety of delicious looking desserts. All of our entrees, sandwiches and desserts were delicious and the service was fine. Cons: The place is all hard surfaces and that combined with full tables, of mostly 'ladies who lunch', PLUS music, was not a pleasant lunchtime dinning experience. We had trouble understanding our friends sitting across the table from us. Around 1:45, when the crowd began to leave, it was fine, but we won't be going back during 'peak times' or for Sunday Brunch due to the noise level. (I would have rated this higher except for the noise.)

Pretty atmosphere

By Suzan S |

My guest had a lovely crabcake with bacon on a brioche - which he devoured! My options for dairy free were limited but I enjoyed the whole grains that they add to their salads. Service was nice. Not crowded for an afternoon lunch which enabled us to hear our conversation.

Not just for cake.

By sissy20013 |

My sister and I went for a leisurely lunch while shopping in Chestnut Hill. Cake is a very open, light and airy restaurant. It's an uplifting place to sit and relax. The lunch was very good. I had a risotto cake and my sister had a chicken salad sandwich. We then splurged on a coconut cream pie which was delicious! A good afternoon in beautiful Chestnut Hill.

Oh my....

Looking for a place for brunch near my son's university for his birthday. Stumbled upon this gem after doing an internet search. Wow... Highly recommend the breakfast burrito. I think there was a 1/2 dozen of eggs in there.

So cute and tasty too!

By Jennifer R |

Cake is located in one of the best areas in Philadelphia! Chestnut Hill has adorable shops and restaurants. A great area to walk around and grab a bite to eat! We stumbled upon Cake while exploring Chestnut Hill and we were thrilled with our lunch! Both my husband and I had tuna salad sandwiches and it was one of the best tuna sandwiches that I ever had! The iced tea was light and refreshing. Cake also has a fabulous array of desserts. The chocolate chip cookies melted in our mouths! The cakes and cupcakes looked amazing! Cake seems to be the "hot spot" for breakfast/brunch/lunch in the area. We went on a Saturday morning around 11:30 and we had to wait about 30 minutes. We were glad that we waited because it was definitely worth it! Can't wait to go back!

Quaint Place, Wonderful Food

By Stephen B |

Food is delicious. Ambience is quaint. The whole staff is very friendly. Perfect place for a casual brunch. They kept our coffee warm and let us stay to talk as long as we liked. Wonderful experience!

Great little place

By Gill O |

We love this cafe. Perfect any time, we've stopped just for a cup of tea and also for lunch. Great selection of lunch dishes, freshly cooked, very generous portions. Service excellent. Had to wait about 20 minutes for a table but that gave us time to wander round Chestnut Hill itself in the sunshine before they rang me to let me know the table was ready. Great servers, gorgeous building. Can't go wrong!

Gorgeous setting and good breakfast food

By cirthanis |

Cake is adorably set in an old greenhouse just off the main streets of Chestnut Hill in Philadelphia, so the atmosphere is of course amazing. I went for breakfast on a Saturday (try to get there relatively early as it got pretty busy closer to midday) and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The food is good, with a variety of interesting options, though I wasn't blown away by the flavors of the breakfast burrito I ordered. Service was great, though - especially considering how crowded it eventually got. They also have a case near the front with some delicious-looking baked goods!

Lovely Brunch Spot

By Rosemary G |

Cake is wonderful venue in the Chestnut Hill section of Philadelphia. It sits behind Robertson’s florist shop and is actually the old greenhouse! Met friends for a Saturday brunch and had a great time. The server was friendly and accommodating and the food was delicious. No reservations though.

Cake is a lovely place!

By Jasmine56 |

My daughter & I were shopping in the blustery cold yesterday in the Chestnut Hill area of Philadelphia. My daughter read online that a realatively new restaurant called Cake was in Chestnut Hill. My daughter knows what I like! Cake is small but inviting. Almost like a terrarium! It looks as if it was once a greenhouse. Soaring rounded glass ceiling and plants everywhaere. Small tables fairly close together but I think because of the height of the ceiling and the plants we could not hear nearby tables. Friendly waitstaff and delicious food compliment any restaurant. We must have picked a good time to go because it filled up with folks waiting very quickly. We each had tea, my daughter had iced tea and I hot tea. The iced tea was very good, seemed brewed fresh (I sneaked a sip). Then we each had different cups of soup. Vegetable lentil and cream of cauliflower. Then we split a sandwich - croque monsieur- ham and cheese on a croisssant with apricot mustard. Very nice. And to top it off a dessrt tart in the bakery case that we saw when we arrived , chocolate peanut butter and caramel! Divine! Can't wait to visit there again when the weather is warmer and the windows are open!

Great cafe!

By CCMitcham |

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent visit here. Menu had lots of choices, excellent service, friendly staff. Priced reasonably, although the desserts were a little high. All in all, I highly recommend.

Special place for Gals

By harrishwhippets |

Having stayed in Chestnut Hill while visiting my daughter I have had the pleasure of having lunch at cake quite a few times. Yesterday I went with my daughter who lives in Mt Airy and has never been. We both had Gazpacho which was very fresh and tasty with plenty of crunch. I had the Risotto cake patty and it was delicious and she had a Greek Grain salad which was large and very tasty and fresh. I have had the most wonderful soups of the day all being unique and flavorful. One of my favorites if I had to choose is the beet salad was a feast for the eyes as well as tasty. All their foods are served with a beautiful presentation which to me is just as important as the flavor. This is a wonderful place for a ladies day lunch that has great atmosphere and a food. A most try when in Chestnut Hill you will not be disappointed. Oh yes visit the gift flower shop too, very cute, great gifts.

Totally worth it!

By Herman02 |

This place is wonderful. Yes, there is a wait... so put your name in and deal with it, you will love the food! Everything is fresh and so, so good....and they have homemade bakery deserts...Go, you will not regret it !

It always snows!

By Stuart R |

We have been to Cake many times for lunch and a few times for breakfast. During the winter , every time we went for a least four times it snowed on the way home. The food is delicious and the service is friendly but not intrusive. Because it is set in a soaring greenhouse, it can get loud, but the room is always festive and pretty. Breakfast on Sunday is the best way to start the day, and lunch is always good. It is also open one night for dinner. (Friday?)

Absolutely lovely place and exceptional food too!

By rikster29 |

My husband and I ate dinner here last weekend - I had been wanting to go for awhile but as it is only open on Thursday and Friday nights for dinner it was a little tricky to plan and I'd definitely recommend reservations. It is very romantic as it is set in a greenhouse with lots of plants, a fountain in the middle and little lights and candles everywhere. They also serve brunch Sat and Sundays and are open as a bakery the rest of the time. I went because of the ambiance and was very pleasantly surprised by the delicious food - we got roasted poblano and avocado dip as an appetizer which was delicious, my husband go the ribeye steak salad which came with a full size ribeye steak and basically a side salad with it which he was very happy with and I got pan fried trout which had a very tasty nut encrusted topping on it. Desert was a coconut cream tart which was we fought over each bite. Overall a great experience - also great service too. We will be back. Also it is BYOB - we don't drink so that didn't matter to us.

Great Place to meet for Sunday Brunch!

By Lindah0220 |

A unique greenhouse atmosphere, interesting savvy diners, a yummy menu. We will be back! Especially the French toast and poached egg dishes. Place is crowded, but our wait wasn't unreasonable. We really enjoyed the experience.

Great neighborhood upscale place

By Debbie A |

Great place to celebrate an intimate dinner for two or a large gathering of 12. Ambience was very pretty and the service was great. The salads were delicious and the fillet mignon is very good as well. It's also fun place to go to for lunch. Again great salads and sandwiches.

Stopped in for Lunch

Best Fruit Tart in the City!

By TrixiePhiladelphia |

I took a Fruit Tart to a dinner a couple of months ago - it was not only a work of art, but light, delicious and the best I have every eaten! They make larger tarts to order (small ones are in their case). Don't miss out! Their lunch and dinner menu is innovative and the space, a former domed greenhouse, is delightful.

pretty disappointing!!

By KathyJoliet_Il |

We had been eager to try the place, arrived at 11:00 am. It is very small, there was a wait. We kept seeing all the great breakfasts trays going past us and could hardly wait for our turn. Well, it was our turn at 11:25 am, and we were given a lunch menu. No more breakfast to be served after 11:30 !! The lunch menu was very limited, we had our hearts set on breakfast. The server, who was in quite a tizzy, promised to ask the manager if we could order form the breakfast menu, but finally returned to our table with no answer at all. Never again!!

First Time, Takeout Only, Very Nice

By Steve F |

We had takeout - a salmon BLT for me, a salad for my wife - that were very good. We look forward to visiting there in person when the pandemic is over.

Delicious!!!!

By Lynne B |

This is an amazing place! We ate breakfast there and had a wonderful meal. The French toast was perfect! The Breakfast Plate was scrumptious! The restaurant was quiet, calm, and just what one needs to start their day! I can't wait to go back and eat dinner there!

Excellent food, and amazing baked goods display

By LCH |

Have been here a number of times over the last year - the food is always excellent, and the staff is very friendly. One of the baked goods I loved was their apple pie - the crumble on top is perfection! This is a tasty place for breakfast or lunch. It can get very busy, so I suggest to try going at off-peak times. The restaurant/bakery is inside an atrium - beautiful architecture. P.S. They have some of the best-tasting bacon I have ever had, EVER!

Great for brunch

By IndyDogz |

Cake has a fantastic brunch - reservations recommended as it fills up quickly. It's set in an old greenhouse and is attached to Robinson's florest (Chestnut Hill).

Pleasantly surprised!

By JMGOrelandPA |

We are always on the look out for a new BYOB to try. Had walked past Cake on a recent stroll and saw that it offered dinner on Friday nights. The atmosphere was very laid back and cozy. Not very crowded at 6PM. When I saw the prices I expected the portions to be small. Not at all. Food was delicious! Will definitely be back!

Fabulous lunch!

By nylady21 |

It was hard to choose from the many delightful items on the lunch menu. The Mushroom Risotto Cake came with mini greens, shaved Parmesan, asparagus, and a delightful sauce. It was amazing! The chicken soup of the day, citrus beet salad, and quiche were excellent as well. The front case of baked goods will tempt anyone's willpower. Service was attentive. Although every table was full, the noise level was conducive to conversation.

Unique place

By Wisertime |

I love eating in the old conservatory, but it is much smaller than it appears in photos. Not a bad thing. The best part is we can walk here. It's fairly pricey, so we don't go that often. Menu is relatively small, desserts are overpriced. It's a nice little place to have brunch though. Good place for a date.

Fabulous lunch

By Lynn S |

Cake is on Germantown Avenue in the Chestnut Hill section of Philadelphia. It is situated in a former florist shop and the dining room has a high atrium ceiling making it bright and cheerful. Four of us had lunch here and all of the selections were very good. The black bean soup was flavorful and delicious. Philly cheese steak was top notch with a generous portion. Two of us had the turkey tartine sandwich...fresh turkey with fig jam, brie and sliced apples. The grilled cheese sandwich was excellent. It had two cheeses with pesto and pistachio spreads on very crunchy toasted bread. Sandwiches came with a generous side of cole slaw. Cake is also a bakery. We were too full for dessert, but we bought some fruit tarts to have later and they were very good. Service was pleasant and accomodating. The bill was very reasonable considering the quality and size of portions served.

Good food but not on a Friday!

By Cathysue411 |

I eat lunch at Cake often, usually on a Wednesday or Thursday. The food is excellent, the price is right and the service is fantastic. However, I have now gone there twice on a Friday for lunch, the food and price were still good but the service was beyond terrible. I still recommend the place, just don't go there on a Friday!

Great birthday party

By pogopony |

We have eaten here several times. We love Joanie! We had a birthday party there for about 16 adults and they were wonderful to work with. Good food, great atmosphere, always a pleasure.

Sunday Brunch was decent

By Food_Snob_PA |

Not our first time so we knew there could be a wait. About an hour, exactly the amount of time the very friendly hostess had predicted. Fill your time in the attached shop (cute, pricey) or wandering the streets. They'll call your cell when your table is ready. Lovely, casual atmosphere in a formally functioning greenhouse (Robertson's Florist). First walking in, your eyes will be drawn to the pastry cabinets. Wow! Very varied menu; fritata's, quiche, crabcakes, burgers, a steak, salad, etc. There will be something for everyone. And there was. Service was friendly, food came reasonably quickly despite the restaurant being at capacity. Coffee was good (no specialties - lattes, etc.). Portions were generous, the fritattas were huge, quiche was okay (crust was very dry), potatoes were good. Crabcakes, small but one diner declared them to be phenomenal. Overall, the food was just okay. I really wanted it to be better, but nope, just okay. Will I come back for brunch - sure, nice atmosphere, friendly service, reasonably priced and the greenhouse provides a "comfortable" setting.

Ladies Lunch

By Judith R |

I have been to this little cafe twice now and had an excellent lunch each time. The food was tasty and beautifully presented. Both times we visited, the restaurant was quite crowded, but the tables turned over fairly quickly and we did not have to wait too long to be seated. My main complaint about the restaurant was the noise level. My friend speaks very softly and at times it was almost impossible to hear her. I'm sure that is because of the high ceilings, but some noise baffles would make this place more comfortable.

Great lunch

This small cozy little Cafe & Bakery is located just off of Main Street in Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia, PA. The Cafe & bakery is located in an old Greenhouse With many small shops nearby. The food is great but most of all, the atmosphere is amazing & the setting is gorgeous. The cafe is very small, but well worth the wait. My wife & I loved everything about this cozy little cafe.

BEST RESTAURANT ON THE ENTIRE PLANET

By Anne F |

Honestly, if I could marry Cake, I would. Every time we visit, it is just as good as the last. One of my favorite things about Cake is their quality and their consistency. You know when you go to a restaurant it's good one day and bad the next time you go? NEVER happens at Cake. I keep going back... I can't stay away... everything is so fresh and delicious and the prices are reasonable! Not to mention the building is beautiful.. if you have not been you need to go now. I mean it, drop what you are doing and go have the best food ever.

Favorite Place in Chestnut Hill

By Katie S |

My Fiance and I have been living in Chestnut Hill for the past two years and Cake is our absolute favorite place for early morning weekend meals. The bright, sunny ambiance is unbeatable, the food is reliably delicious, and the staff are always friendly. We always choose Cake when we have out of town guests. Yes, there is always a wait to be seated, but nonetheless I love this place!

Brunch

CAKE of Chestnut Hill - a magical delicious happy place

By Michelle J |

Cake is beautifully located in a converted florist conservatory. White, bright and lovely. But the magic is in the pastries. I arrived early on a Saturday morning and wanted all the treats. The tarts were delicious. I didn't share the lemon, as that's my favorite. We went back the next day for more. Worth it.

Wonderful

This place sells more than cake but we went to celebrate a double birthday. The waitresses were wonderful and the food was delicious. We saw people who had ordered lunch and it looked yummy. Beautiful venue in greenhouse.

Sunday brunch

By 123abc456de |

Enjoyed a nice girls brunch today at cake. All three of the others I was with had breakfast items. I had a chicken salad sandwich. Every thing we tasted (eggs Benedict, crab cakes, french toast, etc) was delicious. Portion size were good, prices were fair, and the menu, although not huge, had a good variety. This is not a big place, but the old green house with fountain inside is worth the wait (about 30) to be seated after putting our name on the list. We did not have any dessert after although I really wanted to try a tart. I would so go there again. Byob. Street parking is available but there is a lot across the side street. Also the address is Germantown ave, but it is actually off of highland ave (sign and door on highland). Go...you won't be disappointed.

New Philly Favorite

By Yankeerunner |

Everything is right about Cake. It's set in a small, cozy space that was once a greenhouse which makes the lighting inside magical. Just the space alone is worth going for. The menu is the perfect mix of healthy homemade favorites done in a unique way so that's it's fresh and interesting but not pretentious in anyway. Picky eaters and foodies will all find something on the menu including a quiche and soup of the day. I had the turkey with brie and it was superb - not too heavy, not too light, just right. The wait staff was friendly and professional. This is a real local find and my favorite place to come to when in Philly. Great for causal occasions as well as special ones.

Nice Gem In Chestnut Hill

By PhillyShaney |

I have been to cake in the past, but I had the opportunity to take my Mom who was visiting for the Easter Holiday. We stopped in for a wonderful afternoon lunch. My ordered the Salmon Plate with a cup of mushroom soup. I decided to go with the fish special - we made good choices. The decor, the friendly wait staff and the tasty food make this place one good experience after another. If you are in the area - give it a try.

Good breakfast but somewhat limited menu

By Snarth |

We had a tasty breakfast at Cake. The food was fresh and the service good, but the menu was kind of limited. For example, no omelets, no scrapple among the available meats, no grapefruit juice. So, it ain't no diner where you can have anything and everything on the side. I do recommend the frittata which was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. The place is attractive (used to be a greenhouse) but tends to have noisy acoustics and we were somewhat put off by the opera music at 10 AM.

Light, Green & Charming

By Herstory_62 |

Except for incongruous intrusive music (perhaps try some Mozart?, etc.), with a creative menu & daily specials, very good food, tempting pastries, generous portions & friendly service, this light & airy former greenhouse is a perfect fit for Chestnut Hill & a charming bistro for brunch or lunch.

great place

very good food with a nice setting and good service went there with friends that invited us and would go back again

Wonderful Brunch!

By Lee B |

It's worth the wait, and there almost always is one, for good reason. Great brunch! Try the breakfast burrito or frittata.

One of our favorites

By John L W |

Cake is a very popular restaurant in the central region of Chestnut Hill, a wealthier section of Philadelphia. The building is an inviting solarium - iron & glass pavilion. The menu is very good - reflecting a nutritious array of thoughtful and well-presented items. Service is always excellent. Prices are reasonable for its style and location. Customer love new can be long, especially for Sunday brunch.

I just love everything from the decor to the service to the brunch menu (and dinner menu in Autumn). It just feels perfect in every way.

Delicious food!

Lunch was incredible. The quiche and tuna sandwich was delicious. The house salad was fresh and sooo good! Service was excellent. Highly recommend Cake.

Great dining in a great big greenhouse....

Perfect place to meet a friend for lunch or dinner (byo). It is cheap and cheery AND the food is good.

Great place to eat.

By BDavis1128 |

I've been to Cake several times with friends, family and even little kids. The food is wonderful. I've never been disappointed. It is not a quiet atmosphere and the place is small so sometimes you have to wait for a table but you can browse and shop in Robertson's Flowers (which is connected to Cake) or oogle the great variety of baked goods in the bakery case to see what you'll have for dessert.

Great food but busy place

Had a delicious Mediterranean salad . Everyone enjoyed their lunch. They don't seat you until your entire group is there.

Characterful little cafe

By Gill O |

Historic cafe just off the main street in Chestnut Hill. Tastefully presented, with lots of gorgeous looking cakes! We stopped for afternoon tea (couldn't get in for lunch as hadn't booked). Service good, atmosphere lovely. Would recommend.

Fabulous atmosphere, amazing food!

Cake it amazing! The atmosphere is so unique, warm and elegant. We had an amazing lunch with huge salads! They were delicious! I would definitely recommend for fresh, fabulous food in a truly special setting.

Excellent atmosphere.

The best little cafe on the corner of Germantown street. Good coffee, great pastries and above average sandwitches.

A great place to start your day!

Celebrated my mom's 75th birthday at Cake because breakfast is her favorite meal. We have not been here for several years, but the food and service remain excellent. Fritattas, home fries, salad, pork bacon, sausage patties, scrambled egg sandwich and breakfast plate were all tasty! My husband ordered a small cake in advance for my mom to take home which was delicious: buttercream frosting with lemon curd filling! Yummy birthday!!

Great Brunch and Lunch. Great atrium environment, with friendly, efficient staff. The food is extremely heathy and inexpensive with huge portions. Can't go wrong. Very child friendly.

Amazing Breakfast

This is a Must Visit. Quaint surrounding, great service and the breakfast was delish. I tried not to clean my plate, but it was impossible.

Lovely Lunch!

By kiwiandmolly |

I was visiting Philadelphia and ventured to Chestnut Hill. Upon the recommendation of a DE on trip advisor, I stopped at Cake for lunch! This was a great tip, as Cake was amazing! The staff was warm and welcoming and the decor, lush with plants and beautiful bakery items, was perfect. I ordered a beet and citrus salad which was divine. I couldn't resist a lemon curd cupcake for dessert, which was also out of this world! If ever I'm in that area again, I will be making a return visit! HIghly recommended!

Awesome

The food was great. The coy stoner service was great. It was in a nice neighborhood. Nice surrounding stores. It has a flower shop.

Came for the bakery, Stayed for lunch.

By Ronwood_777 |

I Came for the bakery but the menu looked great so I stayed for lunch. My meal was excellent. this brought me back for dinner. The menu is limited and it is a BYOB but what we had was very good. The servers are friendly and efficient. The desserts weren't very fresh by dinner time but everything else was great.

Didn’t disappoint - will be back

By Ukienomad |

Just as my daughter described it. Small, cute and you feel like you’re in a greenhouse. We came in a little bit after 12 and we had a 20 minute wait. Definitely worth the wait. The risotto cake With puréed peas and the nicouis salad was delicious. The waitresses were definitely very busy but still had time to refill your water glasses. The chocolate sea salt caramel tart was wonderful. Definitely stop at the shop in the front but be warned it is pricey, although I manage to buy a scarf as a present. Parking is on the street and you know how that goes. You just never know. Will definitely be back when I’m in the city. The only thing is that if you’re sitting on the side of the restaurant you’re looking at the parking lot. Only negative thing I could think of.
