Campisi's Egyptian? ......

By Desert Singer |

Originally named Campisi's Egyptian Restaurant, they started serving customers in 1946 and known as one of the oldest Italian restaurants. The history books say there is also a connection between the restaurant and organized crime. Check Wikipedia for that. As for the food -- it was DELICIOUS!! The lasagna was to die for, the garlic toast with baked provolone was hot and fresh. Sister had a medium pizza that would easily feed 3 people. The portions were big, the food hot and delicious. The decor may take you back a little. The "old" side is dark, black actually with red accents and low lights. It's like a flash back to the 70's and the table side juke box is a novelty and a treat. Don't miss this meal, decor and history!!

The food and service are as good today as they were decades ago. We love coming here for the old fashioned venue too. the staff are awesome.

Don't miss Campisi's and this location only!

By Cathy S |

If you are a Godfather, Goodfellas, mob movie fan you must go to this original location on Mockingbird. It is straight out of the mob era and remains unchanged. The food is phenomenal! Get there early or make a reservation. Bring some change for the table jukebox so you can listen to Sinatra! We've been going since the 80's and always enjoy our visit.

Try the pizza!

By Ron C |

Research the historical aspect of this Dallas classic. I have visited dozens of times and always have an amazing meal. From the delicious pizza to Alaskan King Crab, the food is very good. My wife and I have travelled 30 miles to share a large, loaded pizza and two dinner salads. Frequented by the ultra rich from the Park Cities, students from S.M.U. as well as working class diners the atmosphere is always good.

Not very good

By jomjr6 |

We were there were several people on business. I knew there was a problem with the bread tasted stale. Things went downhill from there. I ordered the meat ravioli with meat sauce. The ravioli was cold; not even hot. The meat sauce was just warm. I don't understand these reviews that said that it's a great place. There are too many good restaurants in Dallas and this is not one of them. Skip this place!

Local place with very special look and feel

By Sylvie N |

I was first quite surprised by the indoor layout. I found it very dark, but maybe because it was so sunny outside! For me it is a typical local place and seems nothing changed since the 50-60's! side tables have each a mini jukebox and looked like a lot of regular guests were having lunch there. Service is friendly and the menu card offers a nice selection of dishes. Not only pizza or pasta but also appetizers and entrees. You can find the full menu on their web page.

Highly recommended

After visiting the George W. Bush presidential Library at SMU, we asked some friends that live near the area recommended this amazing place that has delicious food and atmosphere. It was about a 7 min drive and once we were there it was a little hard to find a parking space, we were greeted and seated quickly. The waiter took our drink order and when we asked what was a good appetizer. He offered Randy White Ravioli. We had a great day and late lunch.

Great Brunch

By Geraley T |

My husband and I NEVER miss an opportunity to eat here! The brunch has a lot of selections and we never leave hungry,

I know it's an icon, but not worth it!

By David M |

They seated us, but after about 10 minutes and no one came we finally asked a nearby waiter if he could help us. He was very helpful and apologized. However, there were many employees just standing and sitting around. I went to the bathroom and it smelled bad and was dirty. The pizza was just OK. I told my wife we're not going back.

Had lunch at this super cool historic resturant. Tons of history and atmosphere! Lots of memorabilia adorns the walls. If only these walls could talk!! The shrimp scampi was great. Salad was good. Awesome pizza! Service was good. Would definitely recommend.

Good Pizza and Salad

By Likeness |

I have been coming here a long, long, long time. The pizza is always good. I get the all the way with garlic. I love their salads and crab claws. I am not big on their pasta though. This visit was good. Had some of the cheese bread as well. Service was excellent. We had a fantastic waiter. We had about twenty five people and he did an excellent job. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food.

50s Lounge Atmosphere with Mediocre Pizza - a Dallas Institution

By Mustread1 |

The original location still has a great 1950's atmosphere, red tufted booths, dimly lit, gaudy wallpaper, nostalgic celebrity photos, etc. Waiters very nice, helpful. Note: this location offers NO HAPPY HOUR ANYTIME as of Feb. 2019 Growing up by NYC, I enjoy authentic East Coast style pizza - like the kind you get in "Little Italy". Campisis is NOT that at all. Ok pizza.......if you like a VERY,VERY thin crust and toppings that are chopped up to the size of confetti - I mean, ALL the toppings like this. You couldn't distinguish the meatballs from the sausage, from the green peppers to the mushrooms - all were a finely chopped up mish-mash which for me really detracted from the flavor. Personally, this is not the real mom & pop Italian pizza I grew up on - which had SLICED meatball or sausage or mushrooms, etc you could actually see - AND tasted much better. They were never ground up into little indistinguishable pieces like Campisis does. Would not get a pizza here again - very disappointing.

Gross

By Suzi Parrott |

I have been to Campisi’s as recent as November and it was wonderful. Told my fiancé how great this place is and wanted him to experience the goodness of this historic Dallas landmark and restaurant. We sat at a sticky table. Asked waiter to bring something to clean it with. He wiped it down and it was then sopping wet so fiancé dried off table with his table napkin. We ordered toasted ravioli. It was ok. I ordered lasagna. Same dish I ordered in November. It was disgusting. Tasted like it had shredded chicken in it. Fiancé ordered the pasta trio which was equally gross. Bread was hard. Waiter inattentive. Only redeeming quality sadly was the house wine. Do yourself a favor: throw a Michaelangelo lasagna in your oven and stay your ass home. Save yourself the expense and parking issues and bad wait staff. I thought it was dark in there for the ambiance but now I’m wondering if it is so you can’t see your food!

This place has everything

By fadeawayking2011 |

This place is so cool. The whole mob atmosphere is interesting to me. But the food is really good to. Great appetizers, The pizzas taste fresh, and like they just came out of the oven

Very nice Italian!

By Beerwolf4 |

Went there after watching the OU/Texas game with friends...the atmosphere was fun, and the food was very good. Their pizza was great (we ordered it as an appetizer amongst many of us); I had the Veal Parmigiana and thoroughly enjoyed. I see why my friends go there every year...if I’m back in the area, I would go there for dinner again.

Very dark

By Rudy U |

Took my family there for dinner as we explored down town Dallas. We were tired and hungry so Italian it was. Our hostess was very nice and seated us right away. The waitstaff was pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu. We order an appetizer of bruschetta while waited. It was very greasy and the bread was soggy instead of crispy. The tomatoes had a wonderful flavor tho! Then we shared a pasta combo plate. The sauce was good and the serving size decent. The price was about what you would pay at a fast food restaurant so not bad. I would go back again and order something different if we were in the neighborhood.

Long-time classic

By marlinchaser3 |

Cannot eat here often enough. A great classic that has survived the cyclical ups and downs of an ever changing market over a period of more than 70 years. I have never tried the other locations so can only attest to how wonderful the original one is. Professional, experienced and extremely knowledgeable waiters always ensuring a great experience. They are not only intimately familiar with every aspect of the menu, but can easily recite the characteristics of most if not all wines on the list. George really went out of his way to make sure that everything at our table was perfect! The sausage and peppers appetizer is an incredible deal. A large mound of sliced, grilled sausage and peppers for $10. Delicious! While the salmon is awesome, the pasta combo plate is very impressive. Ravioli, lasagna and spaghetti/meatballs perfectly prepared every time. The tender lasagna melts in your mouth. If you like dry red wines, Campisi has you covered with numerous great, well-priced options. Not a complaint exactly, but the restaurant lost perhaps just a little of its ambiance when it was expanded about 15 years ago. The main dining room is now a larger open room. Some wing walls could be added to enhance and recapture some of the original quaintness, but remains on my list as numero uno Italian in Dallas!

Dallas Landmark

By Oldguitarmike |

The original Egyptian Lounge Restaurant. Wife wanted to go for her birthday after eating at the Lovers Lane location, so we invited friends to go with us. Food was good, service was below what I would consider average. I ask to see a wine list and never did get to see it before the waitress showed up to take our food order, so I just asked for something I knew they would have. It's fun to go here just for the nostalgia, but go to Lovers Lane for the food, service and ambience.

The best Italian food i have ever had......

By Eddie C |

I love their spaghetti and house salad. Every body I know loves their pizza, but I can't order anything but the spaghetti. If you have not tried Campisi's, you must.

Dallas Visit

By deandavis29 |

I have been going here for years and each time I swear it gets better!! I have to stop every time I make the trip to Dallas, from the Salami Pizza to the marinated Crab Claws to the Tour of Italy to Joes Famous toast, I can't get enough!! I cold Peroni on Tap, it doesn't get any better than this!! History Lesson when you walk in and a Great Dark room with a cool bar. The wait staff is just awesome and your wait for food is never long!! Must Place to eat Italian!!

First-time visit

By houstontravelingfool |

We were a fairly large group going for dinner and this review is just mine. I didn’t get a consensus from the group. Service was attentive, the pizza was good and seemingly everyone enjoyed their meals. The house salad has lots of Parmesan cheese and was very tasty. The garlic bread was served with marinara sauce and it was delish. The calamari was too and even though I didn’t have any, everyone seemed to gobble it up. Portions were large so no one ordered dessert. All in all, a fun dining experience out.

Great little place. We will become frequent after our first visit. Service and food are stellar. Can’t say enough good about it!

Dallas Tradition - Great Atmosphere and Food

By Stephen S |

This Dallas landmark is an old Italian-American style restaurant. Red leather booths with jukeboxes and a traditional menu. They have great pizza and other Italian favorites. Our waiter had some character but was still professional and friendly. I have been eating here for twenty years and have never been disappointed.

ALWAYS good food.

By Sudderth |

We dine here often. The food is ALWAYS excellent and the service is wonderful! They treat you like family.

Historic, atmospheric and great food !

By Almostgreynomad |

Friendly service, loads and loads of history .... the walls are packed with memories. Meeting place for the mob ... fabulous Italian food. We were there at lunch time on a Tuesday ... and the place was packed !

So Atmospheric

By Alek H |

Campisis is a part of Dallas folklore. It oozes atmosphere - if the walls could only talk. Authentic Italian food, wonderful ambiance and cozy surroundings. This is a must see when in Dallas.

DELICIOUS

By lazy susan |

Good service. Huge menu. Original part of the restaurant remind you of an old-timey Lounge. Delicious food. New section wide and open sports bar. Sometimes there's an outside line but it's well worth the wait period some of the best Italian food at a good price. Casual

loved this old school favorite

By ELIZABETH E |

food atmosphere staff still live up to the original place we hung out daily in the 80s its got that speakeasy italian flavor of the finest New York Chicago pizza pasta joint

Throwback to the Rat Pack Days...In a Good Way.

By Beth M |

If you want, real, authentic Italian food in Dallas, Campisi's on Mockingbird is the place. I have been to other Campisi's locations around the metroplex and although the food is good, the atmosphere is just not the same. This is like stepping back in time to the fifties with red vinyl-covered booth seating, B&W photos of famous people all over the walls and a jukebox at every table. My only disappointment was the jukeboxes don't work.

Enjoyable Lunch, But. . .

By Rascamuff |

First, why is it so dark in this place? The service was excellent, friendly and fast. I ordered the Chicken Marsala. The sauce was thin and needed salt and the chicken too thick. The mushrooms, however, were magnificent.

Time tested restaurant still serving great meals

By Therese P |

We were looking for a restaurant to go to before going to Pocket Sandwich Theater. Campisi's reviews looked pretty good, and the first choice restaurant was booked. Joanne Campisi answered the phone and very pleasantly booked our reservations for 9 in a room smaller dining area in the restaurant. This we were very glad of because it was much lighter than than in the main dining area which was VERY dark. The darkness of that room is my only complaint about Campisi's and I was glad we were not seated there. The service was very good and supervised by Joanne who was also our bartender. Everyone ordered something different and everyone thought the food was really good. This restaurant has been in business for almost 70 years so they must consistently do things right. I will always be our go to for theater at Pocket Sandwich. By the way my husband said his martini was one of the best he's had. As good as the ones they make in Chicago he said, and he should know he's had a few in HIS 70 years. The young people in our party were just as pleased. Thank you, Joanne.

Wont be going back

By Ross M |

Booked table for nine people for 8 o'clock. Arrived on time ordered starters and mains - all came together along with the manager to tell us he is closing at 9....no mention of this when booking. Meal was then rushed as i believe so was the cooking because the food was mediocre at best - would not go back and wouldn't recommend

Blast from the past -- time wharp

By J Warren R |

If I wanted to get a glimpse of what it was like in the 1950s and 1960s, Campisi’s would be the place to go or to give the kids a history lesson. Not much appears to have changed. The interior is dimly lit with tables and booths for seating. The carpet is worn. Adorning the walls are celebrities from that by gone era – Frank Sinatra, the Rat Pack, etc. Large screen TVs are blaring from the walls. Food was mediocre – Pizza crust was cardboard tough – I doubt the dough was made in house. Others in my group said their food was alright – nothing out of the ordinary. Our server was pleasant, competent and helpful. She made every effort to get the orders in and serve the food promptly. So for a piece of East Dallas history or nostalgia, Campisi’s might be worth considering.

Great Brunch!

By GPZachary |

We arrived for what the host said was their last buffet . What a shame as it was quite good, both in quality & selections . The service was quick & polite. The brunch was fresh & refilled frequently. Very pleased with our visit & will be back on our next trip to Dallas

The best pizza and old school Italian food

By Corbett C |

Been going to Campisi’s for many decades. The original location on Mockingbird is classic. Pizza is thin crust and excellent. Try it all. You won’t be disappointed.

Very good food and Nice ambiance

By AllOver1 |

My wife and I went here as it was close to our hotel. Busy place. First let me say the portions we had were very large. A lot of good food for what you pay, very reasonable. The salads were good with good Italian dressing. I had minestrone soup. It was ok, nothing special. My wife had fettuccini alfredo which was very good flavor but came out a little cold. I had the combo plate of spaghetti & meatballs, ravioli and lasagna. The meatball was great and I loved the red sauce. A lot of people were ordering pizzas which looked great.

Italian at its Family Best

By Texas_Travel_1 |

The décor is upscale with Italian family ties. The owner/founder met with Oswald's murder Jack Ruby in jail. The owner/founder might have ties which are better seen at the restaurant, not in a review. When arriving at 9:30 p.m. on a Tuesday, I was warming greeted and seated by the staff. Kristen, my server, explained the menu and the differences between pastas and sauces. I selected angle hair pasta with marinara. The order ticket indicated my preferences and special instructions. The salad came out promptly with hot bread/butter. The pasta, meatballs, and sautéed mushrooms came out promptly and cooked to order. The pasta and sauce had a unique, but zesty taste. Pepper was used in the sauce. The portions were so plentiful, I ordered two extra meatballs, divided the pasta and consumed 1/2 of it for lunch the next day (still delicious). The meatballs are about half the size of my human fist. Service was above average. Drink refills were brought to my table. Management stopped by twice during my stay. Desert choices were offered. (They sounded great, but I ate too much carbs.) The restroom was clean (even the bathroom). There was one drawback. The cheese shakers were removed for the night and no cheese shaker was offered. I was so hungry eating my meatballs, I did not notice. If you visit, make sure to read the history about the founder and his ties to Jack Ruby and Mr. Marcello (who he make 260 pounds of sausage for each year at Christmas). It is posted on one of the walls.

Very good

By Dr_Gina80 |

Very good price! went for lunch on memorial day, only people in the restaurant. It’s dark in the restaurant, but very clean. Lunch specials were delicious w the best, most tender meatballs. 7 of us ate for about $100. Full wine/beer list. Recommend

Pizza & Beer after a Segway Tour

By JeffCarter |

Our Segway Tour guide took us past this place -then highly recommended it. Our tour ended around 8pm and we were ready for a beer and pizza. I opted for the Hawaiian (Canadian Bacon and Pineapple) - excellent. Tried a local Dallas beer - OK. IT was dark inside but kinda cool. I liked the history that came with the restaurant, Great location, near a lot of stuff to see and do downtown. This is my first trip to Texas, and Dallas. I would recommend to a friend.

Pizza & pasta

"The Egyptian Restaurant" was pretty much the progenitor of pizza in Dallas. have often enjoyed their home delivery pizza. Tuesday night Spaghetti Dinner Special for $8 is a true family favorite!

Great thin crust pizza and salads

By Lisa G |

Stopped here for a pizza for lunch. The crust was thin and crunchy with ample toppings. Whenever I go to Dallas I make it a point to stop here just for the pizza. They also have tasty Italian salads. Don’t miss going here.

Horrible service but pizza okay.

By Rgwallick |

Came with a group today. Our ordered food took at least 30-45 minutes to arrive. Had to wait another 30-45 minutes for bill. We were on a schedule and this delay did not help. Pizza was okay but I’ve had other like pizzas that are better. Good history here which is why we stopped today

Jessica gave me my food

By Mindy T |

I’m sorry but Campisis needs to know why they aren’t busy at Love Field. Jessica was less personable than a vending machine. I said hey, you know what would increase your business? She didn’t even pause as I said Joes toast and sauce. I left her no tip. I got a salad, yogurt and diet Dr Pepper. $13.80 with my employee discount. I know it’s hard to find waitstaff nowadays, but you would get better business with vending. I’ll be going to Maggianos next time. Jessica put me in a very bad mood. No circles

Disgusting food.....

By Rebecca B |

My husband and I have visited two other Campisi's Restaurants on our trips to the Dallas area and thought we'd give this one a shot. I SO regret even being put on the waiting list and staying for dinner. First off you walk through this 70's decorated time capsule of a restaurant. It was DARK and DINGGY.......I should've turned and ran away but didn't. I ordered an order of meatballs and Sam's garlic bread. My meatballs had the weirdest texture and tasted like 20-year-old meat and the sauce had a sweet but odd taste. The garlic bread was okay the first but seemed soggy and finished on my palette as something gross. My husband got the pasta combo with speghetti-1 meatball, lasagna and ravioli that he too thought the meatball was disgusting but the rest of his plate was okay but nothing great. The guy that was serving us was just as bad as the food, hardly checked on us and didn't even ask anything when I had not eaten my meatballs. I think the people who are repeat patrons of this place have the tastebuds of a billy goat because this is worse than institutional food. If you go here to eat be fair warned.

The original - Original and authentic in every way

By 04DTS |

An evening in a mafia gathering place. We were privileged to enjoy an dinner at jack Ruby's table. Regina Campisi, the daughter of Ruby's buddy is still active in the business and treated us like part of the family. Mark., our waiter was outstanding. He and Regina were very forthcoming with the rich history of the place. There are a number of artifacts of the mob era and the place is about as authentic as can be imagined. These people are not doing anything to create an atmosphere. It is who they are and what they do. On top of all of this, the Italian sampler was the best Italian food we have ever had anywhere at any price. We shared a small loaded pizza and it was even better. The portions were very generous and the prices were more than fair. I do not see how you can go wrong at this place.

Nice place

By Davin D |

This place has a great story and is a true family owned and operated business. Truly authentic real world Italian food. Get the sampler platter to taste the Lasagna, Ravioli, and spaghetti with meatballs. All on one plate can’t beat it.

What happened?

By 515joycer |

Pizza used to be over the top good. Last night it tasted no better than a frozen pizza from the grocery store. Was it prepared in advance and taken from the freezer and popped into the oven? That's exactly what it tasted like. very disappointing.

Brings back the memories.

By John B |

I attended SMU in the early 1980s. Coming back for dinner was wonderful. Nothing but the servers has changed. Great food and historic atmosphere.

A Dallas staple

By guitardude9587 |

This place has been in Dallas for years and is a staple for many locals. The pizza is really good and is priced well. Great spot for a quick bite to eat and to experience this Dallas staple. Just know that the parking lot is very small and compact, so if you can visit during off peak hours you'll be better off.

Jack Ruby History here...great pizza

By Deb Streit |

I like their pizza because the crust is thin. The place is quite dark, which isn't a bad thing! It is steeped with folklore from the JFK era.Expect a wait during peak dining times, although they expanded several years ago.

Good as ever

By wffood |

Real Italian with fresh seasoning and really good. Service was grand and we all enjoyed the food. Prices are cheap for the quality food you get. Thank goodness for places like this still in Dallas

Good and not so good

By lazy susan |

7 family members from out of town gathering to celebrate an anniversary. Had reservations for 11. At 11:15 one of us called the restaurant from the sidewalk to make sure the restaurant was open. Someone then came to open the door. There were 6 other parties waiting to be seated also. We were seated immediately and had great service for the entire meal. Pizza was heavenly but the veal marsala was not. Nice portion but had zero flavor. It was sent back and we asked for it to be taken off the bill. It was and our server apologized. Salads Devine as usual! Ravioli was scrumptious. Restaurant is VERY dark on the inside. Ample seating.

Paper thin crust - yum

By MSLovell |

Even during big football weekend service with a large group was superb. Separate checks? No problem. Shrimp scampi was very rich in a lot of butter - but it overwhelmed the sweetness of the shrimp. Dressed salad was soggy (order dressing on the side). But the standout was the "all in pizza" -- cracker thin crust perfectly seasoned and meat was fabulous... not a cheesy mess at all. Parking is still a challenge on a busy night.

After living in Dallas 30 years - I finally went !

By Vancouver1964 |

I recently went to the original Campisi's - which is a Dallas institution. I am embarrassed to say that I have lived in Dallas 30 years and had never been ! I was very pleasantly surprised at the laid back atmosphere and friendly service. The food was delicious. I would definitely go back.

Excursion Stop

By Tertl |

My 1st visit ..Group of friends out for an excursion around Dallas... host seated us in a nice room nearly on our own. Waiter was great...on top of our drinks & brought our food out asap, hot & ready! Diverse menu..pizza, spaghetti & other pasta dishes. Needed sauce for our pizza but all was good. Check out was tough..waiter working other tables as well! Place & restrooms were clean, kinda aged but great character!! Parking west of actual restaurant..Will come back

Awesome sItalian and service

By Jane K |

Authentic old Italian restaurant, top-notch service. One complaint is that the restaurant was incredibly dark when coming in from bright sunshine. I felt like I needed a seeing eye dog.! Once I was seated though, it was worth the stumbling around! Most of us took advantage of the Tuesday night special on Spaghetti, also half price bottles of wine made it cheaper than buying a couple of glasses. Owner came over and gave us a free pizza just because. Will definitely come back the next time I'm in the area

Great Italian restaurant-just like a mob boss is sitting in the back!

By Walter H |

Looks like a hole in the wall restaurant, but there is a reason they have been around since the 50s! It has the feel of an authentic Italian restaurant and food is delicious. Had the Pasta Platter and highly recommend the lasagna. Prices are reasonable and is family-friendly.

Good food, airport prices…expected

By Missy B |

Let me start off by saying the Italian Sun, heated, was amazing. The draft IPA was cold and, after a delayed flight, most welcome. While the gentleman behind the counter worked extra hard to get me a good drink from the faulty tap, I was remiss when he questioned my choice for cheese and pepper flakes. “Do you REALLY need these for a sandwich?” My experience says throw all the condiments at the customer, never question their choices. Oh well, aside from that, I paid airport prices for a good sub, cold beer, and faster than a sit down restaurant there. No real complaints, but knocked a star for questioning, petty I know but my review. Lol

Dark and Dingy

By Rich B |

I guess I just don't understand why this place is a Dallas institution. To me, the food isn't much better than average Italian.

Great atmosphere

By Chris A |

This is a throw back to what I think Italian restaurants were like long ago. It's located in a small strip mall dating back to the 40s or 50s. And there is a padded entry and exit door the is red leather and has nail heads in it. As soon as you walk in it gets better. The eating area is a little on the dimly lit side which make for a romantic style atmosphere. Pictures along the walls of family members. They have table tops in the middle of the restaurant and cozy red pleather booths along the walls. The coolest is the red candles on each table that add to the ambiance. There is also another room to seat customers when it gets real busy. That side of the restaurant is not quite as cool. Bring your quarters, they have mini juke boxes at the booths to play music. I got the combo platter, spaghetti, ravioli, lasagna and a big meatball. The good was good. The red sauce had a bit of a sweet taste to it. I ate here awhile back and I thought the sauce had a hint of mint in it. I didn't notice that this time. It was kind of unique. They had a good choice of wines. And they were running a really good deal on bottles. I will return to this restaurant again when in town. Campisis has several dining areas around town but none are as unique as this "original" one.

Delicious food and very cool ambience

By Lisa S |

Ate here with my friend who is a local. This Italian restaurant apparently was previously associated with some mafia activity years ago. The decor is unchanged from this era which makes it really neat. The lasagna is to die for.

Good Pizza...from a New Yorker

By Crazyhorse30 |

As a New Yorker, I must say I was impressed with the pizza. The crust had a nice crispness and char to it. Garlic bread was a little too thick, but the pizza was worthwhile. If you're on business or homesick, it's not a bad stand-in. We ordered delivery so I cannot attest to the service/decor in the restaurant, but the delivery guy was very friendly, even telling us how the restaurant once served as a club where Jack Ruby made one last stop before killing Oswald. Neat history.

shrimp were cold as if in a cocktail

By Lindley Stoker |

Had the shrimp scampi. The shrimp were cold and a bit under cooked. Way to much pesto. Service was fine although they adjusted the bill as we were over charged.

If you haven't, you MUST!

By MetroplexJim |

Still great .... When we moved to Dallas in 2005 it was a "pizza desert". The one oasis was Campisi's, both for pizza and red-sauce standards. Since, there have seen some teriffic pies come to be available here: Olivella's, Coal Vines, Cane Rosso, etc. That said, we still enjoy "the Egyptian Experience". The service and food are old school excellent; The Egyptian is one of the only places in Dallas where I could easily imagine myself to be in NYC. Go for a late lunch and tour the pictures and stories on the walls. My goodness, what a history of modern Dallas is to be seen and treasured there. Anyone who has not dined here is missing a true treat for both the stomach and the mind.

Timeless

By Kelly H |

We went to Campisi's on May 14th 1987 after being married by the JP in downtown Dallas. It has become a tradition to go there every year on that date ever since. Make a beautiful memory there and you can be assured that you can relive that memory for many years to come. The food and place remain the same. May is when the crab claws are in season and they are delicious! The salads and pizza are scrumptious and the bartenders know how to make an awesome Old-fashioned or "regular" Martini. It is a throw back to the supper club days. Just my kind of place!!!

A Dallas Institution

By Kay W |

We recently returned to this original Campisi's and remembered why it's been around for so long. The quality of the food, the service, and the atmosphere have stayed consistent over the years, and we were quite happy with our late lunch. We had one salad, and three Italian specialties - everything was fresh, tasty, and good bargains. They clearly use longtime recipes because they're just right. The service was lovely, and the atmosphere is just old school Italian - kind of a refreshing change from cutting-edge décor. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip back to this old friend.

Still Good After All These Years

By Jim D |

Four family members decided to meet for lunch. Great service. Pizza, Spaghetti, and Alfredo was excellent. The luncheon salads were fresh and tasty. Simply a good place to have Italian.

Worth the wait!

By 2Betravelin |

Every time I visit Dallas, I have to eat here. We have been visiting this place for decades! There is always a wait despite having expanded many years ago. Their pizza is unique and Salami happens to be the favorite of my parents. I LOVE the appetizer crab claws! They are sautéed in a garlic butter and I have yet to find a place to duplicate that recipe. Of course, the pasta dishes are wonderful too. Some of the dishes come with a salad and quite often the dressing is very heavy so we ask for it on the side (yes, a bit oily, but you can mix and scoop the dressing onto your salad.) The 2 downsides to this restaurant is the parking and the wait.

Worth a visit

By Geno of Brisbane |

A nice cool place on a hot summers day. A large floor space with a very Italian American feel. Grabbed a small pizza for myself that was ample for dinner. Food presentation is not a priority by the way some colleagues of mine had theirs presented, but all said it tasted great. All in all, it’s a decent place.

Classic Italian in Dallas...

My friend told me that Jack Ruby dined here the night before the Big Event which was good enough reason for me to visit. Basically, a red sauce Italian place with every type of Italian food you could hope for. We ordered a selection of appetizers, all of them good, but the meatballs were the best of the lot. Then we got a sausage/garlic pizza which was quite tasty though the garlic had a bit of an anchovie after taste. Friendly wait staff and tons of cool photos of Mr. Campisi with various celebs. Though the food isn't over the top amazing, the ambience and vibe of the place are, and for that reason it's worth a visit.

Good food and service

By Kaptx |

Three us went to Campisis for dinner. The food and service was good, but not great. We had pizza, sausage and peppers and lasagne. Again, all good but nothing special. The best thing we had was the cheese bread as an appetizer. A limited but decent wine list. Nice setting and very good service.

Not up to par

By cclakeman |

Had dinner here and it definitely had gone downhill since the last time I had eaten there. The food was only warm, not hot. The meat sauce was too sweet, the salad had too much dressing and worst of all, they served garlic bread that had been warmed up in a microwave! Wow, what a disappointment!

It's been good for decades

By Swimfins |

I remember my parents taking me to Campisi's way back in the 1970's and have eaten there off and on ever since. It's still good. We went back last week as we found ourselves on that side of Dallas around lunchtime. The food and service were as good as ever. I had the "Soprano" penne and pink vodka cream sauce - man, was that good. My companions had the lunch pizza and another had the lasagna. The lasagna was fantastic; the lunch pizza seemed a little plain, but that was our fault. We've become accustomed to the "all the way" pizza. Prices are right and service is good. As usual, we took a couple of "all the way" pizzas home to throw in the freezer.

Consistently good forever

By AdrockDallas |

Never had a bad meal here, always good and has been good since before I was born from what I've heard. Pizza if typically flat and oval here, thin crust, but still good (don't go here for deep dish). Quality of toppings is top notch and it's always dark and quiet. Pizza is always cooked perfectly.

Un-expected

By BB1221 |

Came here to experience a real and genuine pizza and was truly a bad experience! Not clean, poor service and very over priced and terrible customer service. A simple pizza Marguerita should be easy but alas not and was charged EXTRA for everything except the dough!

Great Toasted Ravioli

By Diego C |

Campisi's Italian Restaurant is a landmark in Dallas. It has great history, casual atmosphere, reasonable prices, and generally good food. On our latest visit with business associates we found some disappointing offerings. I will start with the positives. The service was attentive and gracious, and average-restaurant proper. You may find an elbow in your face while serving and clearing, but it isn't supposed to be 5Star. Drinks and beers are around $4.50. The toasted ravioli is as superb as we remembered and so is the sauce served along side. We shared the grilled salmon (excellent), the scampi (Excellent), but the lasagnas was a fail. The four of commented how disappointing and BLAND this huge mound of pasta, sauce and cheese was. It was the worst attempt at lasagna any of us had ever sampled. I knew I should have stuck with their great pizza. I mean it had zero basil or oregano flavor, really no seasoning at all. We could taste meat in the marinara sauce, but that was slight because of no Italian seasoning. The second goofy thing was the dinner salads of iceberg that was served at room temperature and so soggy with Italian dressing that the lettuce was limp, like there were all made a day before. We will return, but probably just stick with what they know how to make, toasted ravioli and pizza.

Great Retro Atmosphere

By Alex D |

I love restaurants with character and this place has it in spades. We ate in the bar area and sat in a booth with its own jukebox. Kevin, our waiter, was very friendly and told us the funniest story about going to a hockey game. He also knew most of the customers he waited on and some were pretty colorful. We had the Greek Salad and the specialty pizza with salami, sausage, mushrooms, green peppers and onions. It was very good and they make them square, not round. For dessert Kevin suggested the Chocolate Layer Cake and we're glad he did. Be sure you look at other rooms of the restaurant to see photos of the Campisi family and many celebrities who have eaten here. This is Old Dallas. Have some fun and good food!!

Great, with history

Rarely give 5 stars, but today, all was great. Joann' s service...excellent. Food, great. Atmosphere very nice. Walk around and look at the pics.

Favorite Dallas location on Mockingbird

By Janice F |

This place has been on our radar since the 60s. The pizza is still our Dallas favorite at the mockinbird location. A fun place enjoyed by 3 couples March 2015. Crab claws smaller than years back.

Nostalgic and wonderful

By brightmorningstar17 |

Grew up in Dallas. As a teen, I'd visit the Egyptian with friends and loved the warm, old school atmosphere. My family knew the original owners and shared a bond of friendship and happy memories. Now, 50 years later, I returned to Dallas and recalled the amazing restaurant with authentic Italian food and cozy atmosphere. So...today after 50 years, my husband and I had lunch. Reviews boasted about the wonderful food and I too am telling you that the food surpassed even my memories. Ordered the combo luncheon, lasagna marinara, ravioli, spaghetti. It was fabulous! We also ordered the 4 layer chocolate cake plus tiramisu. Over the top! Again, best ever! Perfect old world atmosphere, clean and welcoming! Cant wait to return! Campisi's rocks!

Best Pizza in Dallas

Awesome pizza and Italian food. Drinks fresh and friendly staff. Still family owned with multiple locations in Dallas and Fort Worth

Had a great dinner with the family!

By JCL461 |

Visiting Dallas this past weekend and decided to go to Campisi's. We were greeted like old friends when we came in and seated quickly. The service was quick and friendly. For appetizers, we had toasted beef ravioli and artichoke hearts. Followed by our salads - greens with an Italian olive oil dressing accompanied by an olive and pepperoncini. We went with Lasagna, Pasta Sampler plate, and Chicken Parm. For the three of us, we ordered too much food, but it was almost as good the next day for lunch. Hopefully the next time we are in Dallas, we will dine with Campisi again!

Best Italian in Dallas

By tenk59kamm |

I have been going to Campisi's since the mid 1960's and the food is always excellent, reasonably priced with great service

Do not judge other Campisi's by this one!

By Carolea G |

This old faithful is old but not what it was! Owned separately from the others and could take some lessons from the younger generation. The service was good but food quality leaves much to be desired. Eggplant Parmesan with 1 piece 1/2" slice of eggplant and no marinara on it with spaghetti???? One eggplant only cost $1.00. Told bread was in oven when they were trying to defrost from being frozen? Served partially frozen. We had a large party but that was no excuse. Most everything lacked garlic and salt..the main seasonings for an Italian restaurant. Interesting enough my husband ate at Campisis on Campbell the previous night and gave it 5 stars for everything. Says he will never return to this place. Saving grace was the house salad which could not be screwed up..it was crisp with great dressing. How sad to see a favorite fall from grace.

Wonderful Meal

We ate here one evening when I was in town for business. I had the best fettuccine ever!! My husband had a pepperoni and meatball pizza. He loved it also! Note that servings are large!!!!

Don't support the Mafia

By bg32 |

The food was below average and Mafia atmosphere is too much, especially with all the reports about longtime manager Joe Campisi being involved with the Mafia and John F. Kennedy's assassination in 1963. The book, The Hidden History of the JFK Assassination by Lamar Waldron, gives new details on Campisi's role, which is backed up by FBI documents and tapes. Campisi even drove two European assassins from Marcello's farm in Louisiana to Dallas and helped them escape afterwards, according to the book. Going to this place is supporting a Mafia family that likely helped kill JFK and changed the direction of the country. I don't plan to return.

Great Ambiance

By IndianTraveller56003 |

This place is a mafia-buff's paradise! The walls are filled with great photos and the history of the place. They have an extensive menu and the food is good. There are three main areas to choose to dine in. The atmosphere is dim and nostalgic. The staff is helpful and accommodating.

Authentic and delicious

By SkyDragonfly |

Excellent customer service and homemade food. Delicious Italian! It is dark inside here but there’s light at the tables for you to see your menu and food. Shouldn’t be a problem once you adjust to the dark lighting. If you’re looking for authentic Italian you will be pleased eating here.

Amazing food, great service, so yummy!

By Tiffany H |

Campisis has been around for so many years and still has the best authentic Italian food in the DFW area! Their staff is friendly, the food is delicious! Red sauce is so yummy and their cakes are divine. My favorite is their pizza of course. Fast delivery and the portions are big enough to feed big families 🍝 🍰 🍷

There will not be a third chance....

By kpavlakis |

My husband and I moved to Dallas during the height of Covid and decided to take a chance eating out because we had cabin fever and also thought we should patronize a local establishment. Campisi's on Mockingbird is in our neighborhood and the reviews were favorable. It turned out to be a bad experience all around. The food was so bad that we joked about how the rest-stop food had been better while traveling across the country from New England to Dallas. We did not complain given the situation and asked for our check. The waitress was clearly puzzled why we had not eaten the dinner and asked if we wanted boxes, but we said no. I think she got the message though. Fast forward, over a year later, we thought we should give it another try since our first experience was during Covid and restaurants were short on staff and chefs. Unfortunately, Covid was not to blame as this most recent experience was as bad as the last. The service was acceptable, but the food was mostly inedible. This time we did complain and the manager or cook did try to offer us something else but we declined. Despite the cook's denial, I have no doubt that the pizza was premade and reheated. it was the worst pizza that I have had in Dallas, literally like eating dry tasteless cardboard. The pasta my husband ordered did not taste or feel fresh. The chef or whoever he was, did remove the pizza from the check. I am baffled by the positive reviews and can only surmise that the reviews are old and possibly it is partly a regional issue. If you are from the Northeast and have experienced high-quality Italian food you will be disgusted by the food at this restaurant. Just as I suspect that if a Texan went to a Mexican restaurant in Rhode Island, he or she might feel the same. I could never write a review about a Mexican restaurant because I am not an experienced Mexican food eater. However, there are certain givens like soggy iceberg lettuce drenched in a salty dressing is simply not good, pasta and a $15.00 pepperoni and cheese pizza should be freshly made. I have been eating long enough to know when something has been freshly made and this food was not. Very sorry to write such a bad review but it cost us $190.00 to find out just how bad this restaurant is. One more issue is that it is so dark in there that we had to use our cell phones to read the menu and my husband who has poor sight needed to use his cell to see his plate.

Not the best service

By Mona M |

We arrived early since we didn't have a reservation and know it gets busy. Getting a table for 2 wasn't a problem, but the problem was the server who didn't want us to be added to his area. He quickly took our orders and that's where the "quickly" stopped. A large party was seated at 2 maybe 3 tables. And as we all know they run up huge food and bar tabs. So as a table for two we were immediately overlooked. So we sat. Waiting. We needed to place a to go order as well and ended up waiting an additional 20 minutes just to order it and another 45 to get it. Yes the kitchen is busy as well but orders can't go in unless someone places them. I suggest allowing the server to say no to waiting on tables if he doesn't want. But if he says yes everyone should be treated as if we are a large party.

Authentic Italian food

By Trail D |

Our group was very pleased with this choice for dinner! It was a very simple menu, but the dinners were very tasty. They have been a staple in Dallas area for more than 50 years. The portion were large and the prices were very small. We would definitely go there again. Our waitress (Nina? Blonde hair was great at what she did, the bartender as well!!

Food was not great and over priced! Poor service. Spaghetti was just ok. We would not go back. Grilled chicken salad was missing chicken! Crazy.

Always Special

By Lackland B |

We return here about once a month. Sitting in he back room with Joanne Campisi as waiter is special. The House salad is great and the pizza never disappoints.

We won't go back

By Terry D |

One of our friends suggested this place because of the crab claws of all things. This place was in a nice location but very dark inside. Service was ok. The food was like it came from frozen tv dinners. Mine was even cold, I had the combination of spaghetti, ravioli and something else. It was all piled up together and cold. The guys crab claws smelled up the table. The chicken Marsala was not good and came with a different pasta than the wives ordered. The crab claw guy ordered a small pizza. It was the only thing that looked good. He said it was good, but he also said his crab claws were ok.

Classic

Been an institution in Dallas for years. Good food. House salad dressing was great first salad, second salad had no flavor tasted watered down. Pizza a favorite.

Favorite Stop in Dalls

By mrshoop10 |

We stop at Campisi's (the original, Egyptian Room) every summer during our trek from Oklahoma back to Houston. I love the food here! The atmosphere is very old school, gangster style! Love the jukeboxes and red leather. The crab fingers are amazing as well as their piccata. I am however increasingly underwhelmed by the waitstaff. The past 2 times we have gone, we have had terrible service. We keep going back cause it's tradition and the food is delicious! You must go at least once.

Nostalgia Revisited

By Anna Moon |

Was my “go to” restaurant for family style Italian food back in the 1980’s. First time back, taking my daughter, and loved that the menu and decor was the same. While the food was very good, it wasn’t great like I had remembered it.

Had a really great dinner

By tandtmcd |

Our hotel recommended this place. We were in the smaller club space but had great service. The food was terrific and our server seemed to adopt us. She even popped a dessert that we were not going to order on the table. Great food - wonderful service. Probably could use a restroom remodel after the 60 or so years they have been here but would definitely go back.

a trip down memory lane

By Cynthia U |

went to the Egyptian as it was a childhood favorite of my friend. we were seated in the dining room and it was a blast for the past. the walls have lovely family and fan photos. the pink sauce which is the red sauce and the Alfredo combined is divine. the food and wine were good but it is the atmosphere that makes it special.

Small pasta portions stick with pizza only

By 2Betravelin |

We used to eat here all of the time, but recently they increased the prices and decreased the portion sizes. The service was very slow as well. We like the Salami pizza (large salami pizza pictured) and seasonal crab claws. Tonight we added a penne pasta with a side of red sauce. If you add a meatball it is an extra $1.50. When the $12 penne pasta plate came out, I asked if that was a kids meal size, but apparently this is the adult portion! A picture of the penne pasta is attached. Yes, $12 for basically a cup of penne noodles and a side of red sauce (without protein.) So disappointed this time around with small portion sizes, and slow service. Our server was not very friendly either.

Good Italian

Enjoy their spaghetti with meat sauce and salad but their environment was too dark and too cold. Waiter was very efficient

Still amazing!

It's been years but still the same great food Got the lasagna and still great. Bread was below par otherwise a solid five stat.

Visiting an old favorite

By JSAdams2014 |

I hosted a group of 20 women for lunch. Management set us up in a side room with a dedicated waiter. This group requires separate checks and this was handled beautifully. Some of us ordered things we used to order here 20+ years ago, and still raved. Others tried out some newer things and everyone enjoyed this visit with an old friend.

The Original is STILL GREAT!! Since 1950!

By Vernon L |

This has been a LANDMARK of Dallas for many years. They moved to the Egyptian Lounge on Mockingbird in 1950. I used to drive from Denton to eat at Campisi's when I was in grad school! I still go at least once a month. The BEST night to go is on Tuesday when they have a spaghetti special and 1/2 price bottles of wine. But don't overlook their AWESOME pizza! I remember meeting Mr. Campisi himself there back in the 1980's. Go check it out yourself!

Old Dallas Restaurant

By Bill B |

Campisi's Restaurant is a very casual old-fashion family run establishment dating back to the 1950's. The food was good and the service was wonderful. Would recommend it to family and friends.

Great food in a classic, mid-century space

By Esther G |

Campisi's Egyptian Lounge, a casual restaurant and bar, has been in this location serving the same classic Italian menu since 1946. It's got a terrific bar (and half price bottles of wine on Tuesday), experienced professional wait staff, and great food. Located near the SMU campus, the lounge, with its tvs, juke box and noisy hubbub is dark, loud, and ringed with red leather booths. The dining room is quieter but still classically stylish in a mid-century GoodFellas way. We started with the house salad, then ordered Eggplant Parm (really excellent) with pasta and house red sauce, and the Italian Steak (cooked perfectly to order, seasoned with garlic and olive oil, and smothered with sautéed mushrooms) and served with crisp fried potato "chips". All very satisfying. Highly recommend this particular, original location of the local family owned Campisi's Restaurant chain.

Darkness Over Powers the Experience.

By Jim D |

The food is a average. Pizza is very good, place is way toooooo dark. Customers at most tables had to use their phone to read the menu. Service is OK but the hostess is just terrible. She should absolutely not be allowed to interact with customers. Ruined the expectation for our party.

Best Pizza in Dallas

By Rene I |

Pizza Pizza! awesome service and authentic thin crust Pizza. Try the crab claws and garlic bread for appetizer.

History is Palpable, Chick Parm was Phenomenal

By Mike L |

I have to admit. I mostly tried the Egyptian Restaurant for the story of Jack Ruby’s last meal the night before he shot Oswald. However, the second I walked in I was in love. The place was so damn dark I could barely see the counter 5 feet in front of me. Your eyes adjust quickly and you can feel the history of the place. They do a great job of keeping the feel of the place, but also making sure it’s all well maintained. I sat at a booth with an old school jukebox that sadly was out of order. The walls are covered with pictures and the entrance brags of visits by President Bush, Sinatra, and Jack Ruby. There are also excerpts from books that mention the Campisi’s connection to the Marcello Family which was the top mafia family in Dallas. The food was delicious as well. I loved the large thick plastic cups for my soda. I had the chicken parm with fettuccini instead of spaghetti. It was a huge portion and very rich. I gave it all a good home. They also bring out a piece of garlic bread that was just sipping with butter and garlic. The salad is just drowning in dressing which I have to admit oI love salads that way. The health conscious, not so much. Service was great as well. I love the story about not having enough money to change the name of The Egyptian Lounge so they just named it the Egyptian Restaurant. There’s also a lounge that wasn’t open for lunch, but I took a peek inside and it looked like an awesome throw back as well. It’s impossible not to conjure up images of a place in Goodfellas. The fact that it was a lounge also explains how dark it is along with the padded leather door.

Campisi's Restaurant

By KIMBERLY H |

We went to Campisi's on Saturday night with some friends. We did have a reservation which was nice because they were busy. The parking for this location is terrible. The parking lot has pot holes, was wet and muddy, not well lit and the people looking for a parking space drive through it like it is a race track. Our friends ordered a pizza, it looked good and they said it was. Our other friend ordered pasta and she said it was good as well. My Husband ordered a pizza and he said it was good as well. I had a bite of his pizza and I did not like it as well. I ordered the pasta sampler. I did not think that it was very good. It tasted like it was not fresh or "home made". Our waiter seemed like he was overwhelmed with our party. Maybe he was new.

Historic icon

By MistyLewis |

Rumored mob connections and news accounts placing Jack Ruby sitting at a booth the eve of the JFK assassination are reason enough to visit this place! Originally the Egyptian lounge when the Campisi's moved in. They couldn't afford a new sign so they took the lounge part down because they didn't want to turn off families. After you walk in through the huge red padded doors, you have to readjust your eyes to the dim lighting, then find a seat at a booth with a built in juke box. It's in that moment that you believe everything you've heard. The pizza is absolutely fabulous with its authentic crispy thin crust, it's the closest I can get to St Louis Italian here in Texas. The dinner salad is my favorite! This place is historic, quirky, off the beaten path and a local favorite!

An old favorite!

By DeniseS |

Walking in to the dark, red, scentful restaurant, I am welcomed by a smiling lady and taken down memory lane. This restaurant is fantastic, has a GLUTEN FREE pizza (small size only), amazing green house salad and a lovely bar and wine list. This is a fan favorite and I will always return to this place when I'm visiting Dallas.

First visit & great experience

By Don R |

I’ve heard about Campisi’s for years so I had to give it a try when I came in town to see my daughter and son-in-law. You really feel like you step back in time with the decor in the restaurant. We made reservations since it’s such a popular place and it was a Friday night. The only negative is that it’s so popular that parking can be an issue. But don’t let that stop you from going!! We had the Bruschetta as an appetizer and our pizza was the works. Everything was fresh and prepared to perfection, and the service was really good. I look forward to a return visit so I can try a pasta dish!!

The taste has survived and flourished under the test of time

By drgastro7 |

Campisi's has always been my favorite place for pizza, crab claws, salad and Italian food dating back as far as the 1960's for me. It was started in the 40's and the place always had a line down the street to get in and eat here as long as I can remember prior to their expansion . Now seating is easy but the food is still amazing. You need to park just west of the restaurant There is a old part of the restaurant which has memorabilia and pictures showing many of its past visitors and patrons, including celebrities as well as famous Dallas Cowboys and others. There is a newer section that maintains the atmosphere but if you are not seated in the older part you may want to walk back and see the original section. Great place to go as a family, group or couple. The pizza is the very best I have ever had and the crust is thin and amazing. Would recommend ordering their Italian sausage and pepperoni or other pizza, and ordering a side dinner salad and their crab claws as an appetizer for all. Guarantee everyone will leave satisfied.

The name is "Egyptian Restaurant" but it is all Italian

By Dave S |

Despite the name "Egyptian Restaurant" out front they are totally Italian. When the restaurant opened in 1946, previously it was a bar called the Egyptian Lounge. The story goes they couldn't afford a new neon sign and changed lounge to restaurant and it has remained since. And is still run by the same family, who have opened more Campisi restaurants throughout the DFW area. The food is good and the prices are reasonable. The lasagna was was very good as well as their thin crust pizza, which they cut into squares not slices. Bonus points for me. They also serve plenty of other pasta's and traditional Italian dishes and our waitress said the burgers were also excellent. Most meals include a salad (pizza does not) and they use a homemade Italian dressing. They also have a full bar to satisfy your thirst. This place has a bit of a throw back, supper club feel to it and the atmosphere is half of the appeal for me. Walking in the door is somewhat like going back to 1979. In a good way, as they have maintained the restaurant they have kept an older, traditional feel to the decor. Vinyl booths, large wood arm chairs, plaid wallpaper & table cloths, lots of wood, and lower lighting combined with the use of a lot of red colors has a warm feel to it. Like Kodachrome film vs digital. You could easily shoot a TV show from the 70's or early 80's in here without having to change up much. Parking is a little weird as the restaurant is in an old strip mall with a single line of parking in front. Due to the way the street runs out front, you have to go all the way around the block to get back if there are no spots in front. But there is a large parking lot to the west of the building. The Mockingbird DART station is also near by if you want to take the train.

It never changes

By travelgirl4Dallas |

I've been going to the Egyptian on Mockingbird for over 50 years---yikes that is shocking! It has become this place that you don't even recognize as having not been there in your thinking, and you can taste the salad exactly and completely without ever getting near to the building. The big deal back in the early days was to be seated in "the back room" where we heard all kinds of stories about the drama and intrigue that surrounded the place. But with all the changes that occur every day in the world, it is nice that some things never change. You can walk in there today and get salad with either lasagne or pizza, and it will be just the same as it has always been. Maybe not the absolute greatest thing you have ever tasted, but still a taste so full of memories that it makes you smile. Keep up the good work Egyptian!

Stay Away MICE EVERYWHERE

By boomersooner75 |

Upon arrival, we were seated immediately, booth for 5. Thought it was going to be a great night out. Then my wife notice mice droppings all over the seat cushions! Upon further inspection, the table had black droppings on it also. We cleaned it off ourselves because the waiter took about 7 minutes to arrive. We decided to stay because we have eaten here before and had enjoyed it. When the waiter arrived he said and I quote” the kitchen is about 45 minutes behind in pizzas because we only have one oven working! “ So no pizza tonight! We ordered 2 appetizers and then promptly ordered our entrees. 55 minutes later our appetizers finally showed up! And no they were not busy, 5 other tables in the entire place. One hour and 25 minutes after ordering our entrees showed up! Not hot and not fresh just average. This place has turned from a great Dallas landmark to an old cruddy dirty bar that has horrible service and a bad kitchen with poor management. Where is the health department! THIS PLACE HAS HIT ROCK BOTTOM. TIME FOR A CHANGE THE NAME CAN NO LONGER CARRY THE SLOW SERVICE AND BAD QUALITY OF FOOD COMING OUT OF THE KITCHEN. where is the health inspectors

Great pizza bar

By WRC_63 |

I was in town on business, staying at a nearby hotel. My Uber driver suggested this place for dinner, saying it was a "Dallas Institution". I decided to check it out for dinner, and was very happy for the recommendation! This is a comfortable casual restaurant/bar, with really good pizza and friendly service.

It is a classic, but I think its reign has ended

By Mike Hunt |

I was here last week, mostly out of nostalgia. I have been here dozens of times over the past 30 years and of course, it still looks the same inside as it did in 1986. The food isn't any better and other than wanting to try a taste from your past experiences, I don't really see the need to return again.

Love this place!

By Michelle |

I would go weekly if I could. I love the food and ambiance. Try their combo plate with lasagna, spaghetti and ravioli!

Good restaurant with interesting past.....google it

By Jill |

Have dined here numerous times and it is always dependable and a good value. It's a bit like stepping back in time when you first walk in. Booths with juke boxes line the walls. The main dining room is a bit larger and not quite as dim. The food is delicious and generous. Will dine here while in Dallas for years to come. Sidenote: main dishes come with spaghetti and marinara but the Alfredo is a nice alternative.

One of our favorite places!

By MistyLewis |

We eat here every time we come to the city! I love their pizza but this time we both had pasta for lunch. I had spaghetti and meatballs and my husband had manicotti. The sauce is what makes it so good and I absolutely love their salads! We were taking a JFK tour so this was our tip of the hat to Jack Ruby as he was known to frequent the place.

Great food, but slow service

By Lucrown |

There were five of us in for dinner on a Sunday night. We were quickly seated and brought drinks. After that, the service slowed somewhat. Took a while to submit our orders. Food came out quickly, though. We enjoyed Shrimp Alfredo, the pasta combo plate and appetizers. Everyone thought their portion was very generous and all enjoyed their meals, except one. The person who had the pasta combo thought the pasta part was good, but the meatball tasted "off". I took a bite and I would agree...either the meat was soured, old or both. Would not recommend plates with ground beef. We waited quite a long time for our ticket to be brought (if you have read any of my other reviews, that is my number one pet peeve!) but for our server to pick up the credit card....seconds!

Delicious history with a side of family

By Sarah Jess |

If you are looking for rich, delectable food with a long history in Texas, look no further than Campisi's!! The atmosphere is romantic but fun for families. There is a classic style to the establishment that immediately draws you to a simpler time in history. The jukeboxes are an added bonus that keep an older era relevant. The food is brilliant! I have yet to have a dish here I do not like!!! The chicken Marsala is rich with savory and sweet notes to it. If you are in for lunch, do yourself a favor and get the number 3 combination!!! Lasagna, ravioli, meatballs, and spaghetti all on one plate is definitely a way to go! It brings old world flavors to your present day taste buds!!!! If you are a pizza person, enjoy a pie at Texas' first pizzeria.... If it weren't for the occasional Southern accent from patrons, you'd have a hard time remembering you are not in New York or Chicago.

Wonderful

By Foghat2112 |

Enjoyed the old school ambiance, great service and delicious food. We sat in the back room. We loved Joe's Famous Garlic toast. All four in our party thoroughly enjoyed different entrees

When my fellow was new in town, he went through a several month period in which he was fascinated by the JFK assassination. He went down to the grassy knoll, retraced Oswald's footsteps...so I had to bring him to Jack Ruby's old haunt, The Egyptian Room, to complete the experience. We've been back several times since that first time, and we've always had exceptional service. The food is good, too. I recommend the penne and pink sauce.

Old Family Italian Food with lots of local history.

Love this place. The original Egyptian Lounge. Lots of local history, atmosphere and excellent food.

One of the Best!!!

Campisi's is my favorite place in Dallas. I've had almost everything on the menu. The lasagna and the spaghetti with meatballs are my favorites. The service is just as good as the food. Be sure to get the tiramisu for desert. I've been to this place 3 times in the last two weeks, if that tells you anything.

Great Pizza

By andrewcjackson |

We eat their pizzas often at group lunches. They deliver to our offices in the Galleria area and they are always a hit. I like all the different toppings you can add. Better than any chain pizza for sure.

Nothing Special

By metntex |

Have eaten at the Lubbock location and this one and have come to determine that the food is average at best. Had the pizza and the tiramisu. The booths are too small for four so why they sat us in a booth I have no idea. Parking is limited as well. Would we go back. Perhaps, but wouldn't go out of our way.

An historic Italian restaurant in Dallas.

This famous restaurant has been around for many years, and has always served fine Italian meals. Their pizzas are great, and the service is friendly and helpful.

Boy's Night Perfect

By ETexNative |

This was my second trip to this location, but this time a friend of a friend was paying for us to live it up a little! We sampled many choices from the menu that I have not tried before including the crab claws, Joe's garlic bread, and their All the Way Pizza. All were delish but the crab claws were especially succulent after being drenched in butter and garlic with spices. When you combine this with the perfectly seasoned and toasted garlic bread, we could have stopped right there! But, thanks to my new friend, we took it another step with the All The Way Pizza with sausage, salami, mushrooms, green peppers, and green onions. We were stuffed but couldn't close out the night without a little something to fix an ailing sweet tooth. The tiramisu placed before us was very delicately creamy with just the right amount of sweet. We tried the chocolate cake as well, but it was a little dry and lacked flavor, so we mostly fought over bites of the previously mentioned Italian classic. Our waiter was patient with us as we occupied a table for about 4 hours (of course we made it worth his time) but began to creep us out a bit before our departure. Apparently he did an internet search of the paying member of our party and spouted off his biographical info. A little weird, but three old friends have a great night with just the right amount of atmosphere.

Great pizza, wonderful service!

By Tammy C |

My husband ate here as a boy (almost 50 years ago) and talks about it often. I can say that it lived up to expectations. The pizza was great but what really makes Campisi's a place to come back to again and again was the service. They truly make you feel like one of the family. We both enjoyed meeting and talking with JoAnn. I look forward to our next trip to Dallas so that I can return here.

Great pizza, even the gluten free!

By johrene |

This is an old established pizza and beer restaurant in Dallas. The pizza and service was very good, but it was not as hot as I would have liked. Still, had a nice family visit!

Ok food

Very dark atmosphere. Friendly host and the server was great but my Pepperoni Pizza not memorable at all.

SALMON...Perfecto!!

By Faith S |

I had the salmon and it was awesome! Cooked and seasoned very well but not dry. The pasta wasn't half bad either. :o)

Pizza!!

By tmiller461 |

I have not eaten here in years. Was in town and had the opportunity to order pizza. It was as good as I recall. We got 5 different pies for our large group. Everyone loved it. We also got some salads and they were good.

Just the Best

I get so fed up with out-of-staters who have no ability to be civil on Trip Advisor so they have something not set right when visiting an iconic restaurant and decide to freak out and give it one star. Thanks, Bama Boy for messing up the high ratings of hundreds of others. Next time, just run over to that pizza place in the mall. Better yet, try talking to a manager fade to face first. Seriously, if you can’t say SOMETHING nice don’t say anything at all, to quote Bambi’s mama. This restaurant has been our family favorite for 43 years. Sure, the expanded seating area isn’t as cool as the original. Sure, the floor might be worn in after 6 decades. Go to Olive Garden if all you care about is mass produced Italian and a chain feel. But if you want the best Italian taste of old Dallas, join me at Campisi’s.

Love the shrimp scampi!

By Ivonna02 |

Went with friends to have dinner. For appetizers, we ordered calamari, also sausages with peppers. Both were very good. Main dishes... delicious sautéed shrimp scampi, fabulous lasagna, very good combination plate (ravioli, lasagna, spaghetti with a meatball). The service was average, but food was good. Days later we went to Elm street location... Also very good!

The food was a letdown

By DMax55 |

Chose this for dinner because we were staying nearby. The service was good - no issues at all with that. Unfortunately the food just was not what I’d expect. I had the chicken parmigiana. It LOOKED good, but tasted more like some prepackaged manufactured cutlet. My wife had the eggplant parmigiana and she substituted red sauce for the white sauce it comes with on the menu. I’m no eggplant preparation expert, I couldn’t tell you where they went wrong, but this just wasn’t properly prepared - she barely ate it. I wanted to like this place...

Dungeon??

By Morten I |

The entrance is somewhat different and it's almost pitch dark inside when entering during the afternoon. They have two different parts and we were escorted into the finer parts of the establishment. Ordered scampi and pasta with extra garlic. The food was good and plentiful, but only 8 scrimps was on the low side. What surprised us was no espresso machine was operating in an Italian restaurant😳

Very good!

By Inner Happiness |

I recently visited Campisi’s on Lovers Lane in Dallas and really enjoyed it. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and the staff is friendly and attentive. The menu has a good variety of Italian dishes, and everything we tried was flavorful and well-prepared. A solid spot for a tasty Italian meal.

Dallas Love Field Campisis.....Horrible Experience!! Will never go back!!

By perudallas |

Last Friday night there was a group of about 8 of us that wanted to grab a quick bite and drink before our flight, so we decided to stop by Campisi's on our way to our gate. Huuuge mistake. I don't know if the airport one is franchised or not, but it is definately not up to par with Campisi's in the rest of Dallas that we love. Service was extremely unprofessional, power hungry, more worried about getting off and closing than tending to us or any customers. Would not serve one girl in our party because "she had already had a drink within 20 minutes." This girl and another that also happened to be blonde had not had anything to drink up to that point. Then when my wife went to ask for a beverage the "lady" tending the register said no "because she would give it to the other girl with us." I asked the Manager what kind of policy the had to serve drinks and she brushed me off and said that the cashier was in charge all the while another worker was in the background sating she was ready to close. So basically they rushed us out, made excuses not serve so that they could leave on time. Sorry for the inconvenience!! Will never ever go back to that Campisi's at the airport and left a bad taste in my mouth for all others as well! Since our flight was futher delayed we went down to Chilis by gate 16 where a lovely lady served us appetizers and beverages and got well over a 30% tip just for being a breath of fresh and just plain NICE,

Highly Disappointed

By VacationJen2014 |

I wish that I would have read more reviews before going here. 1st off the building in not the one in the picture. It's old and creepy and uninviting. That should have been my 1st clue. Our service was terrible. The atmosphere was not good. Our pizza was really greasy and not great. My daughter got fettuccine that was cold and under cooked so she couldn't even eat it. I usually trust trip advisor. Save yourself some time and money and go somewhere else.

Favorite Pizza

By meektina |

Campisi's has been around for ever. There is a reason. It is delicious for lunch or dinner. It is such a fun place to go anytime of the day! Everyone should eat there when they visit Dallas!

Mediocre at best

By ssirkel |

The food is covered in your choice of sauce, and there are several to choose from. I felt like the food was kept warm and the sauce was heated and poured on top. Sauce took away any taste that could have been had. I never add extra salt or pepper to my food but this called for it. Our first visit and the waiter explained how it was the oldest Italian restaurant in Dallas. I asked if the pasta was made fresh and he said yes. I was so disappointed in the meal. The bread tasted like regular French loaf that was sliced and toasted. The butter for it was the little packets you get at McDonalds. Three adults, 3 meals, 1 alcoholic beverage and we spent $80. The house salad was delicious and reminded me of Italy, however the unpitted olive is more deco than eating. Staff was friendly. Waiter was too helpful- we could not carry on a conversation without him interrupting. It was annoying. It was a one and done for us. I think the original recipes have been lost and replaced with mediocrity.

Great

Place is a little pricey but food and service is yummy. Great variety of men and pasta and pizza very fresh! They also deliver which is a plus!!

Great Pizza

My wife and I visited Campisi's and each had a medium pizza. It is one of our favorite pizza restaurants in Dallas. We have been going to Campisi's for 45 years.

Hey, eat like family!

By tripnexus |

Italian restaurants; typically, the food is the same, the atmosphere the same, the staff the same. Yet, sometimes there are surprises. This gangster hangout has rich history which is scattered around the restaurant. The feel of the room is awesome, an authentic experience. Really, no one is forcing me to say this. Really. The service was excellent and the food was excellent too. The salad was well prepared with a strong dressing. It was so good that the tasty bread which is served had to be used to soak up the extra dressing. The flatbread pizza was tasty but the sausages stole the show along with the spaghetti and meat sauce. We were on a business trip so I am not sure of the typical wait to get in. But, next time I am in Dallas, this is a place I want to return to. I highly recommend it.

Good Pizza Nice Employees

By Rammgm |

I had a two hour layover and was hungry. I tried this place on a lark because it was not busy. Once I tried then I did not know why it was not busy. The food was good and fast. I suggest going there. They also do one major thing on my pizza/flatbread that put it over the limit. They cut it into about 10 - 12 pieces. The pieces were easy to eat which sitting on the chairs waiting for my flight. It seems to be a small thing, but it made a big difference.

Best pizza in Dallas.

By Gary C |

This restaurant and family have a very interesting history. But most importantly the pizza has been the best in Dallas forever.

Simply a classic

By Corbett C |

We've been fans of The Egyptian for more than 60 years. Pizza, Italian specialties and the atmosphere are reminders of growing up around Dallas. There are many locations for Campisis but for the real thing go to the first. We took some new friends there recently and it was same great food we remembered.

Best Pizza in the World

By tommywilliams91 |

I had my first Joe Campisi's "all the way" pizza in 1970, sitting across from the bar in the original dining room after standing in line outside for 40-minutes. Been back hundreds of times since. Always was and still is the best. Added a larger dining room years ago, so not so long a wait. Best pizza, best service, best atmosphere anywhere. Same crowd every Tuesday night for the spaghetti special. Always a few new faces and always smiles on every face. Also good lasagna and shrimp scampi, but the "all the way" pizza is too good to pass up. Order more than you can eat and take home the rest. Joe ran the place with love until he passed away a few years ago. While you're there ask about the "Egyptian" name and Joe's last night in his restaurant.

So Disappointing

By AMPWyo |

Dropped in after a visit to SMU for an early evening bite. Campisi's has always been a sure thing but we decided after burned calamari and just OK ravoli and pizza that it's banking on it's heritage and history. Sadly, the food is just not keeping up with that great history. We were a little larger than a normal party and were sat in a horrible location. Everyone had to get their cell phones out to read the menu and there was a peculiar smell coming from the kitchen. Service was OK but the food was average at best. Had we had better light, we probably would have sent the calamari back because we could have seen it had been fried too long. The only solid item our party ordered was the chicken marsala. Everything else was just OK. After eating here for many years on trips to Dallas, it was a huge disappointment.

Faded Glory

By GrodTzu |

Still great pizza after all these years - especially since most places serve those deep-dish dough-bombs & Campisi's trademark pizza is ultra thin crust. Hey, this place was a dump in 1969 and it's no different today - you go for good pizza and if you've got some years under your belt - you're in for a little nostalgia.

Pizza!!!

By Fxb81 |

I have to say that this is one of the best pizzas you can get in Dallas, TX. Traveled here from Georgia and someone recommended this place and I’m glad I stopped. Pizza all the way is a favorite.

Why Bother

By davidsonh2016 |

The service was great, I will give them that. And the only other thing interesting is the history with the Mafiosi, but one can't eat that. The food was nothing but ridiculous . The salads, limp lettuce bathed in tasteless dressings, the lasagna was a big heap of red sauce. My tasteless shrimp scampi was drowning in the thickest paste of bread crumbs. And I didn't like Joe's toast either which many swear by.

Been going here 40+ years

One of my all time favorite places to eat in Dallas. Crab claws are the bomb!!! This place has barely changed over the years. I love the ambiance. It's beautiful and romantic. The service is better now than its ever been. The food is fantastic. I have so many good memories here. Thank you for being consistent.

"Sopranos" restaurant!

By Janice L |

This restaurant is straight out of the "Sopranos"! There was "stuff" relating to the "mob" all over the place, plus the juke boxes at the booths. The food was delicious, and our waiter was terrific. The only negative was that we had to wait too long for our entree. We were told that because of a large party there would be a delay. But our delay was much too long. Would love to go back and taste their famous pizza!
