So good!

By toknighton |

We came because of Guy Fieri's recommendation and were not disappointed in the least. Fresh and stringy fried mozzarella (house-pulled). Caesar salad was ok, but could have used a little more dressing. I like my caesar dressing to be more pungent too. More garlic, more lemon would have made it all the better. Dr. Pepper was served flat and a little warm, not sure if that is a Texas thing but I didn't like it and that and the salad are the reasons I didn't give 5 stars, would happily have done 4.5 though. Pizza crust was chewy and salty. So good. Toppings were delish! We got 2 for 3 of us and it was a bit too much food with the appetizers and salad to not have leftovers. We had the off-menu Honey Bast*rd and the Cane Rosso. Both were so yummy. That bacon marmalade on the honey Bast*rd is lick-the-plate good! Looking forward to going back next time I pass through DFW area.

Creative pizzas abound!

We read an article recently saying that you had to visit this restaurant before leaving Dallas...they were right the article said you HAD to have the Honey B. pizza..we did, and the sweet onion marmalade in contrast with the hot soppressata was EXCELLENT! We also had the Gus pizza. The sausage was seasoned to perfection, and in small crumbs so that it was evenly spaced over the pizza.both pizzas are MUSTS to repeat! We also had the dessert of fried dough with caramel, sauce and Nutella. A perfect ending to a fantastic evening !

Okay pizza

The experience was nice, but if you like soggy pizza crust then this is the place for you. Toppings and sauce were great and a variety to choose from

Super Pizza

By Myopin |

Went to have pizza here with family. The server was great and very attentive, The choices of pizza were just the right amount. Caesar salad was one of the best we've had. /The pizzas are handmade and cooked in wood fired ovens that heat to 900 degrees and cooks the pizza in less than 90 seconds. The food was very tasty. Would recommend this pizza place to anyone wanting a unique experience and good pizza.

Best Pizza in Dallas!

By Charles H |

We became aware of Cane Russo via their appearance on an episode of "Diners, Drive In's, and Dives". We gave them a try and now we eat there, at least, every other week. We travel often to the Amalifi coast in Italy and this pizza reminds us of being there. Great value, great staff, and multiple locations seem to be opening in the DFW area

Good pizza but the Best in Dallas? Uh, no.

By gordotx |

Wife and I decided to brave the downtown traffic and try out Cane Russo at the edge of Deep Ellum. I've had a review article taped up for months but never got the momentum going to visit. We had an early start this past Friday so navigated down to Commerce St and parked in the interesting online $5 lot next door under the freeway. Even at 6:30 there was a 30 minute wait so we hovered near the bar, grabbed a couple seats in front of the red tiled pizza oven and had a brew. The pizza guy said the oven gets up to 900 degrees so pizzas only take 1-2 min to cook. Up to a dozen pizzas in there at a time so you do the math. My phone alerted me to our table and we moved from the main bar dining room into one with much less ambience. Lots of larger groups sitting there with numerous kids, but still OK. We ordered a pizza (what else), the Cane Russo with sausage, hand-smashed tomatoes and onions. Pretty good, but here's my gripe with 2 minute pizzas. You order anything that has moisture (eg-onions) added to all those smashed tomatoes and the time inside the oven doesn't allow for cooking out all that water. So our pizza was wet in the middle half, had to eat it with a fork. This is a big bummer as far as I'm concerned. The pie was $16, as are most on the menu, which I think is overpriced for a basic 12-14" pizza (for 2). Along with $6 12-oz beers and several locations, this place will be making its owners extremely rich. Not Dallas' best, but worth the trip. BTW the chocolate calzone was great (but pricey). We could only eat half of it.

4.5 if I could

By Melissa K |

Only reason it's not 5 is because the Caesar salad was meh and the DP was flat. Fried mozzarella was so, so good and pizzas were delish too. Got the Honey Bast*rd (off the menu special, has bacon marmalade and that stuff is lick-the-plate good) and the Cane Rosso. Crust is thin, chewy and yummy! Hot soppressata (their version of pepperoni) is just spicy enough. Their mozzarella is pulled on-site. Definitely worth a trip. Will be back next time I'm in the area.

Awesome traditional style!

Blended into the vibe of the eclectic Deep Ellum community, Cane Russo's is a must stop DDD joint. I enjoyed a Mista salad of field greens, grape tomatoes, sea salt, parmigiano, balsamic. I then shared the Zoli pie. It was lightly dressed with Italian tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil, jimmy's sausage, hot soppressata. They have a very nice selection of craft brews and a few local selections as well. I look forward to returning to try a few of the other pies.

very good pizza

voted "best pizza in Dallas" is one of the awards for this restaurant. Yes, the pizza was exceptional and delicious. It is hard to find- in a second row of buildings not visible from the main road. It is family friendly and at 6pm on a Saturday night was jammed with little ones... and cacophony. My advice is to arrive at a later time when the din has calmed down. We did have two small ones with us, but the scene was wild. One unusual note for a family place- no childrens menu at all.

Very interesting pizza and fun place

I don't know where I had heard of Cane Russo, but I was glad I did. Alone in Dallas on business and looking for some place local. Cane Russo hit it out of the park. Pizza is cooked in a really cool wood fired oven. Service is great and prices more than reasonable. Very unique style of thin crust pizza. Delicious.

Pre-concert dinner. Fantastic!

We found our way here on our way to Gexa Energy Pavilion for the Doobie Brothers and Journey concert. We'd seen it on triple D and wanted to give it a try. It did not disappoint. We only tried the Delia pizza with spicy bacon marmalade, fresh tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and arugula. Little did we recall that the pizza oven is so hot it cooks in about 90 seconds! We enjoyed a glass of wine and a Peroni (Italian beer) and an absolutely delicious, fresh, super thin crust pizza. We'll certainly be back when we're in the area!!

Enjoyed the pizza

Excellent place! Went on a Saturday nite, so get there early and reserve a table because it gets very busy... Pizza style thin crust and oven kilned for like a total of less than 2 minutes. Very tasty.

Pizza is Delicious

By ashleyjoy24 |

I'm not a big pizza person but Cane Russo is delicious! My pizza was so fresh, so light and lacked majority of the usual overflowing pizza sauce which I loved. The pizzas are big but because they're so light they can definitely be eaten by one person. Our friends also had the goat cheese arugula salad which they enjoyed! The waitress said one could fill two people as a main course but they needed to order another. Yummy yummy and we can't wait to visit again soon!

Meh

Good pizza. No bar. Lackluster service. Surly about takeout orders for some unknown reason. I can't see why people rave so.

Gluten Free, Vegan, Bacon Jam, AND Yummy Cocktails?!?

By Katherine Z |

We took the [teenage] kids out for lunch and everyone LOVED the meal. To explain how rare that is: one gluten-free eater, one vegan eater, one it-has-to-be-covered-in-bacon-to-be-real-food eater, and one I'll-eat-anything-until-I-won't-because-I-am-randomly-picky-and-sometimes-unreasonable eater. Three of us ordered pizzas and one had the chicken and waffles. Highlights of the meal were the habanero honey (NOTE: order that when you go and dip your pizza crusts into it), the No. 1 Cocktail (just . . . no words), and the continual smell of wood-fired pizza because they cook it at 900 degrees. All of the food was delicious. Our table enjoyed a special pizza - the gluten free crust was fantastic; it had strawberry jam on it, which worked perfectly with the ham and fried egg, the Farmers Only (with red sauce and vegan cheese) that was amazing, the Zoli, and the chicken and waffles (made with Captain Crunch cereal) were deemed the best our pickiest eater has ever had - with a request to return for a birthday dinner to have the dish again.

Wonderfully different

By TX2OBX |

Yes, the really thin crust on the pizza is chewy (limp), as others noted, but the exquisite flavors made it really tasty. The antipasta and meatball starters were very good, and the salads are huge. We had four different pizzas, all quite good. Our waiter timed the pizza course very well, giving us plenty of time to finish the starters. We finished with the bella mela, an apple caramel pizza our waiter recommended. Delicious! This location is a bit hard to find (at top of hill), but worth the search. Highly recommended.

If REAL PIZZA is what you want, then this is the place!!

By b2bcome |

This pizza was amazing!! By far the best pizza I have ever had! The hostess was horrible. I could look past it as the pizza made up for it. This place was packed, but that is no reason to be a rude hostess. Go for the pizza.

Great pizza

By MrCancun2013 |

Had a nice Sunday lunch at CR. Salads are huge and can easily feed two people. Also hit up Bellatrino pizza at the Deep Ellum brewery which also has great food. Can't go wrong with either place !!

Difference Of Opinion

By David E |

My son and his wife took us to Cane Russo as it is one of their favorites. We had tried to visit before but had not been able to get it done. We ordered three different pizzas. My wife thought they were fantastic, I was not impressed. Each was good but I felt they had two significant "flaws" that lowered my opinion. As discussed by a few other reviewers the crust, especially in the center, was soggy - I prefer a thin, crisp crust - this one was thin but far from crisp. Perhaps this was just a one off night for the kitchen staff. I also felt the amount of ingredients used on each pizza was lacking. The bacon marmalade used on the Delia was excellent but there was not much of it. It is easy to understand why this place is popular as the ambiance was exciting. Server was excellent - attentive but not overbearing. The noise level was pretty intense. If you are sensitive to loud places, weekends are probably a bad choice. If the weather had been cooler, I would probably have preferred their outdoor seating area which appeared to be very nice.

Dinner

This place is absolutely wonderful. The food and vine list is very diverse and will please any palette. Most authentic Italian in Dallas. Located in the up and coming Trinity Groves area.

Pizza

If I wanted soggy pizza this was the place to go, will never spend my money here again , service was ok but only putting 4 pieces of basil on a pizza and being chintzy with the mozzarella was not ok especially for the price.

Awesome

By Pam M |

A friend who lives near took me here for dinner. We had a pizza that was not on the menu, think it was called the Honey #astard, it was fabulous. We also ordered a salad which was more than the 2 of us could eat. The other bonus is that they have their own animal rescue, I think it is Carrolton. We went to the location by Lakewood in Dallas. This place is dog friendly and very casual.

Authentic Italian Pizza that will keep you coming back.

By Gayla-Texas |

This is one of the "go to" restaurants when I come to Dallas. They have ingredients shipped from Italy and the food is amazing! Don't skip dessert...the zeppoli is amazing!!!

Great pizza

By HighStandards02 |

Save room for the smores dessert pizza. Sitting at the bar allows you to see the greatness firsthand and visit with the chefs.

Sloppy Pizza

By ayuh |

Pros: cool hipster area, clean earthy atmosphere, HUGE salads, attentive and accomodating staff. Cons: pizza topping quality ingredients with sloppy execution. Too bad as crust great..."special K" needs less cheese[way] and more grape tomatos. Fresh basil shred on top would add flavor and color. Mista salad spring mix with ample shaved parm and sweet balsamic. Cesar with nice anchovie flavor. Waiter Taylor a keeper

Loved it!!

By Dolphin2030 |

We will definitely be back. Cannot believe we have not been before! The best pizza around, and the handmade pasta was sooo good.

Best Pizza Desserts Ever!

By Stephanie G |

I travel to Dallas for work every week and this has become an absolute favorite of my project team. The menu includes a large assortment in pizzas, quality appetizers & craft beers. If you are not interested in pizza I would not recommend going - even though they have sandwiches and pastas - they are not nearly as good as the pizza. Also - make sure not to fill yourself up with food before dessert! The Ladybird pizza with nutella and cookie butter on top is absolutely delicious. I always get requests to bring them back to people who can't make dinner.

awesome food

By Lovely5 |

We had the deep fried bread sticks for an appetizer. They were great. Ordered pizza and fell in love. Fresh and delicious. This place is really fun not a traditional pizza joint. When in Dallas again I will go back.

Named Best in Dallas for a reason!

By Sally M |

Recommended by a friend and boy am I glad she did! My new favorite pizza! Location is a little hard to find because it's tucked into a shopping center that's hard to see from some directions. Service was a little less than attentive, but it was crowded so I get it. Had a "small" salad to stave off the hunger. Enough for two, with some left over. And lordy, the pizza was worth the wait! I'm usually a basic no-frills pepperoni kind of gal, so I'm always skeptical of the fancy pizza joints. Had the Zoli. Still dreaming about the Zoli. Loved the Zoli. Will go back as soon as I can convince my husband it's not too quick for a return visit to the same restaurant! Need the Zoli.....

Wonderful Pizza

By Cory |

This is definitely not your traditional pizza place. All the pizzas are hand-tossed thin crusts however, they are cooked for 70 seconds in a wood burning grill so the center is still doughy. Use fork and knife for the first bite then treat it like New York style

Very good food, fantastic pizza!

By H C |

On a vacation stopover in Dallas we stopped at Cane Russo's at the suggestion of a friend who lives in the Dallas area. In a word, fantastic! The pizza was some of the best I've ever had, and I've eaten a lot of pizza in my 50 years. The carbonara was good, a little heavy on the garlic. Beer and appetizers were also great. Highly recommend the fried nuggz (fried mozzarella).

Great pizza - a must

By Charlesvincent A |

I stopped by here during the evening on a recommendation of a friend. I was here on business and I needed a place to dine for dinner. In any case, I was amazed at the selections (vegetarian/vegan friendly) and the hospitality of the servers. The manager even walked around asking us how we were doing (dont see that often). Excellent...I recommend!

Great pizza

By Su W |

The pizza there is cooked only 90 seconds at 900 degree. Very taste and fresh ingredients, super thin crust well done.

Awesome visit

By ipwnbbq |

We decided to find a place to get pizza and this place was open and looked interesting. The server was excited when we said we here for the first time. She was happy to offer her favorites. The “Straight Fire” pizza was an excellent suggestion. I ate all but one slice. The wife had “The Jabroni” and thoroughly enjoyed it. The undersold super star is the Happier Times Bread Old Focaccia. It needed no dip and we demolished it. If we lived in Dallas we would be regulars.

Underwhelmed

By hoopsman86 |

I thought this was supposed to be the best pizza in the land. We had the Paulie Gee and the Friday Night Frankie. The crust was not crispy like I expected. The best way to describe the PG is wet. Meatball app was uneventful. Service was great tho.

Traditional tremendous pizza!

By Road113133 |

While visiting Dallas from Australia we ordered pizza to be delivered and was blown away by how quick and came and the quality of the pizza. It was traditional thick dough with a thick crust and very simple toppings. Totally recommend to anyone who lives real Italian pizza.

best use of this Lakewood retail strip to date

By Chas F |

Cane Russo has reenergized a tired and struggling retail center at Garland and Gaston Roads. Being opportunistic and claiming a landscape setback to create a uber cool courtyard for outdoor dining with raised podium picnic tables under the large live oaks, this place is a place you will want to frequent. while located to be a neighborhood hang out, I prefer this one to the original Deep Ellum location where you fear a car might land on your head from the freeway above the patio. The interior is expansive, and perhaps a bit noisy with kids, the bar is nice enough for a date night. pizzas are excellent and the small salads large enough to share between two people.

Best pizza outside Rome

By Sesa38 |

I don't know why it took me so long to try this place. The pizza is hands down the best I have had since I was in Rome. Another nice surprise was that Tuesday and Wednesday they have some $5 and 7 pizzas. We also ordered the calamari which I don't recommend. The atmosphere is good but I didn't care for the torn booth seats.

Great Monday-Wednesday Happy Hours - 5-7 PM

By Texasgirl0915 |

I love their pizzas and salads. During Monday-Wednesday Happy Hours (5-7 PM) there are several 1/2 price pizzas available. There is a fun neighborhood feel to this restaurant. It is fun to sit at the bar and watch pizzas being prepared while watching a game. It is very family friendly with many small children and babies - lots of little ones running around sometimes with minimal parental supervision. The outdoor seating is lovely - when not in the heat of the summer.

After 2 visits, I really wantred to rate this place higher...

By Eno G |

I feel bad just giving this splace an "average" rating.Great Service, fun atmosphere, gluten free options, and they were willing to customize a vegan pizz on the fly for one member of our party. But the crust one their pizzas was just so unbelievably soggy on both visits. The soggiest I've ever had. They really need to put the pizza on a rack on your table like most other upscale pizza places do to prevent this problem.

Bacon Marmalade

By ViviAnne18 |

My family and I decided last minute to go for dinner and the food was exceptional. We started with the Mista Salad which was good, field greens, grape tomatoes w/balsamic-next time i will venture out for another type of pizza. We ordered the Delia Pizza just for the Spicy Bacon Marmalade ingredient in it and it was not disappointing. I wanted a jar of that stuff to put on some toast. This one ingredient is what for me made the entire pizza have such a flavor, and it doesnt have marinara its an all white cheese pizza. After seeing the table next to us have their dessert we ended up ordering the same: S'mores Calzone. This completed our meal but it made it twice the better. Perfectly warm, melted and sweet. Best dessert i have had in a while. Service was okay, our waiter asked if we had been there before and we said no, it was pretty busy for a Monday night but i felt neglected compared to the tables surrounding us. We saw our bus boy more times than our actual waiter and for me thats a big deal. I will definitely return based on the quality of food, but i will make sure to ask for a different seating section.

Night out with family and friends

By Janithsallee |

The appetizers, drinks and pizza were great. This was a moderately priced meal and the waitress was very helpful with placing our order. She suggested the dessert pizza and this really capped the night off, it was the most delicious I have ever tasted. My great-grandsons favorite baseball team was playing and she was more than happy to switch television channels to make two little boys very happy. The waitress was able to explain the different local beers and ales which was very helpful to our crowd.

Leave Room for Dessert!

By Haley20 |

This is a favorite of ours when in Dallas. We love the atmosphere, the service is always great and the food is excellent. Probably the best pizza I have ever had. We love everything we have ever had here. Save room for dessert, the dessert pizza's are amazing! The Smores is a favorite and we had one with nutella in it last time that was excellent! Typing this is making me want to take a trip to Dallas just for the pizza! It is very busy and loud, so come prepared for a wait, but know that it is worth it.
